Saturn Automobile Prices

Saturn's value is increasing so much partly due to the fact that the brand's cars are, on average, the cheapest used vehicles you can buy. There's still a big rise in value—Saturn might even overtake second-to-last Suzuki at an average used price of $6,346—but at $6,269, there's not really anywhere to go but up

The CVT transmission started losing fluid. No idea where the fluid was going because there was no leak. I took it to the dealership and they advised flushing transmission so we did. Now I think 6 months later after repeatedly having to add transmission fluid to a closed system that supposedly never needs transmission fluid and not to mention you have to use a special transmission fluid not the over the counter stuff, the transmission has gone completely out. Oh, and did I forget to mention the recall notice that said we didnt qualify because we had too many miles on the car. What? You put a faulty transmission in a vehicle that I purchased and you are going to tell me I have too many miles on it to qualify for the transmission to be replaced even though it was faulty to begin with? Now I am stuck with a car that doesnt move and I have to pay a loan on a car that doesnt move. The transmission costs more to fix than the cars worth.

My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone! This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?

I’ve been waiting for an ECM computer for my 2001 Saturn lw300 for almost a year. My car has been in for repair waiting on this part since last February 2011. I was told that GM has to have an order for 50 before they would manufacture them. I can’t get a response from GM. I’ve been told that you have to have a new one because it has to be programmed for my VIN number. It’s too good of a car to just let it go. What should I do? Thank you.

I am on my third Saturn. I dont have an Ion. I have a 2007 VUE. I owned two other cars prior to this. My first two Saturns, within the warranty period, had to have the ignition replaced because they jammed and I couldnt turn the key to start the car. My VUE made it past the warranty period, but now is jamming up the same way. Another quirk: I can start the car and pull the key out and drive without the key in. I have to be careful to turn the ignition all the way to off before I pull the key out or the battery will die if the radio or something else is left on. I fully expect, based upon my experience today of trying for about 10 minutes to unlock the ignition and turn the key, that there will soon come a point where I cant start it and will have to pay loads to have the ignition replaced. Yes, three Saturns...same problem. If GM wanted to really be about customer service, they would acknowledge this issue.

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion 2 Quad Coupe. Ive been having problems on and off for years with the ignition. It was sometimes difficult to start, but with a little jiggling of the key and the steering wheel, I always managed to start it. I wish that was the only problem. Yesterday, I drove my car to the supermarket and couldnt turn the car off. I was able to turn the engine off, but the key would not release and the keys position was stuck in the ACC position. My local mechanic told me that I needed to find a GM dealer, so I took it to the closest Buick/GMC dealer in my county. I was told that I needed a new ignition and am dreading to find out the cost tomorrow. I just found out today that there were hundreds of other Saturn owners who experienced the same problem. I wish GM would recall this part.

Me and my girlfriend bought a 09 Saturn aura from love Chevrolet in Columbia South Carolina, it had 52,000 miles on it. First day at the lot, the car wouldnt start. They said it sat for a while, it just needed a jump. A day later we were sitting onside of the road. Within 1 month I took this car back to the lot 6 times to be fixed for different things but for a long time they wouldnt replace the battery then the tire rod then the water pump, the OnStar went out. Then right at 100,000 miles the transmission went out. After a year, it is fixed. Then as soon as we get the car back the vents for ac and heat went out. Somehow they started working again but the heat stopped working and its been out for about a year now. If we got rid of the car we would have lost out because we did a trade in, they gave us so much lie about fixing this car. We didnt know what to do but keep this hunk of junk. We owe 4000 on this car but its not worth 400. What should we do? Oh and from day one it had bad alignment, its not worth the trouble. Saturn Aura, you have to do better.

My wife has a 05 Saturn Vue, the engine blew up whilst driving home from work. No check engine light, no warning at all. The car lost power steering but luckily no accident. I called GM customer service and told them what happened and they said car needed to go to a dealer to be looked at... They arranged for it to be taken to local dealer. The dealer said engine was gone. I called GM back and asked them what they were planning to do and was told they would do nothing again. I explained that it could have killed my wife and that surely there should have been a warning of some description...I was passed around from person to person sitting on hold for 37 mins to speak to a supervisor. When he got on the phone he muttered something and transferred me again. So I called the headquarters in Detroit and got pretty much the same response. I now have a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. I even had to fight them to get my car towed back to my house (there was more bad cust service but too much to mention). So this bears as much as a warning to all Saturn drivers. BE CAREFUL, THEY BLOW UP WITHOUT WARNING AND GM DONT CARE!!!!!

I returned home and the key wouldnt turn off. It was locked in the on position, still running. The temperature outside is over 100 and my husband even had to take the steering column apart just to shut the engine off. So now, you basically have to hot wire the car to start it and disconnect wire to turn it off. I can see that Im not the only one out here with the same problem - mine is a Saturn Ion 2005 with 45,000 miles. We need a recall! Obviously, Saturn has a real problem here. Look at the post and this is just from the people that inquired. Help ** if you know what I should do. I dont have the money to make the repair!

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and just spent $649 to have the ignition switch replaced. The light would constantly come on and the key would get stuck and it would lock up on me. This has been going on for about 2 years. It stopped for about a year and then about 2 weeks ago it started up again. When I took it in for repair, I had to go to the dealer. I found out this happens to most Ions. This is unacceptable. And he said he would not be surprised if I am back in 6 months. What can be done if anything? This just does not seem right, other than selling my car. But I cannot afford a new one. Please help!

I have experienced many of the problems I hear from owners here. Frozen key or ignition, stuck key, vehicle will not turn off. Took the car in for servicing (luckily, the car is still covered by warranty). I received an offer from the dealership for over $6K. I wondered why they would offer that much money for a car with over 86K miles on it. Then I came across the lawsuit filed below and read through the case file Interesting stuff, makes me want to call GM directly. **. I want to know how these transmission problems apply to the 2006-2007 ION models and what we need to do. My elderly parent will drive this for a few weeks and I will be holding my breath the whole time! Something for folks to keep in mind.

I have a 2008 Saturn Aura XR with 62,000 mile and on two occasions when putting it in Drive and attempting to go somewhere the TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. Dealership was closed when this happened. That was when Hurricane Irma was approaching Florida... When we did attempt to take to dealership a week later, we started the car put it in Drive again and it shifted just fine. The problem appeared to have disappeared. Today, we attempted to drive to the grocery store and it did this again... Even though it was in drive and it would not shift out of low gear... Has anyone else had this problem? And, what did it take to correct it? Thank you.

2005 Saturn Ion 2: Along with my ignition switch failing, my power steering regularly going out while driving down the freeway, and my driver-side window not working, my key is now stuck in the on position with the car running. I popped the clutch to turn it off and disconnected the battery. I ordered a new ignition cylinder and plan to replace when it arrives. I agree with the majority of the community that there are far too many problems with particular parts for a recall not to be made. Im elated for the day I can rid myself of this car. Its been nothing but continual problems. My Honda on the other hand has nearly the same miles and not one problem in 5 years.

Ive had this car now for about 9 mos. Its been a pretty good car until the last 2 weeks. The a/c was the 1st to go out (when I 1st got it). I had everything replaced, then about 2 mos. later, the a/c went out again. So, 2 weeks ago, the stereo stopped playing, it says to check the wiring. In the past week, all these new things started. I now smell gas fumes, when we hit the door locks, the headlights go out and back on. Last night, I put the car in reverse, and the lights went out and back on. Sometimes, when I put it in reverse, the gas gauge drops from 1/2 tank to empty. Other times, after refueling, I leave the pump with the empty gas light on. I make sure the gas cap is on tight before I leave the station. Two days now, the security light comes on, so today, I replaced the battery in the wireless remote, and stopped @ Autozone to have the cars battery checked & it is fine. A few months ago, I was having a problem with the car stalling out when I backed up, but after hearing about the ignition switch recall & GM, I tried something that works. I took the key off my keyring. There are no other keys on it, the added weight of a few other keys, was messing with the ignition switch. Im pretty sure my problem is with some loose wiring, I read that with the Saturn, the a/c condenser hose pops off, and read theres no hope for the gas smell. I just pray the car doesnt go up in flames. Oh, and have had a few problems with the tail lights too. And a few weeks ago, I couldnt get the trunk lock to catch after checking the problem with the brake/tall-light problem. I didnt know until today that Saturn is a GM product, cause I promise you had I known, I would never have bought it. Ford held their own, GM bailed out.

I own a 2005 Saturn Ion. I love this car but the ignition lock issue is a big concern. I have been battling this ignition lock for years. I took it twice to the Saturn dealer in 2007. They first said it was the ignition cylinder and then they said it was the ignition switch. It was neither. Fortunately, my warranty covered the service. There is a sensor in the shifter that indicates that the car is in park. Through my trials and errors, if you are parked on a flat angle, inclined or declined, the shifter is not allowed to engage fully into the park position and your key will remain locked up. A huge pain and I have sent my complaint to the FTC but have not heard anything. Dont bother taking it in anymore. Start the vehicle, shift it out of gear and put it back in park. Shut off the vehicle or move the car to a different parking spot (flat, inclined or declined). To know if its engaged or not, you will hear a clicking sound coming from the steering column once you have pressed the brake and put it into park. What a pain and a serious hazard!

I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. The GM rep referred me back to the dealership. The dealership told me that there is no other option. I am not out to get money, just an answer to why nothing could be done and is there anything that really could be?

I have had numerous problems with my 2007 Saturn Outlook, which I purchased
I have had numerous problems with my 2007 Saturn Outlook, which I purchased used in August of 2009. It has been in the shop more than it has been on the road. The windshield washer motor quit and a part had to be ordered, no power steering. The check engine light went on requiring a trip to the shop to fix whatever that problem was (which I dont remember now), except that it meant my remote start wouldnt work during the snow season, the headlight burned out two light bulbs prior to receiving the recall notice on that part - the list goes on!The most current and crucial issue is my transmission. I have 93,000 miles on this vehicle, and the transmission has gone out completely. I am expected to continue to make a monthly car payment of $465 on a car that doesnt run! The warranty ran out on Jan. 26, 2011 and the car quit running in March. I called several places to find out how much it will cost to fix and have been given prices from $3,000- $4,800! I am a single mother, who teaches in Detroit on a dwindling salary. I am worried about paying my rent, and I need a reliable car to get to work.I have called and talked to both the man who sold me this hunk of junk car, Tom, and Shelly in the service department, who is wonderful, but powerless. Both have told me there is nothing they can do, as the warranty expired two months prior to it breaking down. I have called GM financial to explain the situation, and they simply dont care. I have offered to give the car back; however, they will need a roll-off tow truck, as the car will not run! They informed me that they will take the car, sell it for the best price they can get, which will be very low, seeing as how there is oil in the mass air flow, no transmission, no power steering (which went out almost a year ago, but was not covered on aforementioned warranty!), and the brakes and routers need replacing. The difference between that selling price and what I owe, which is consequently about $18,000, will be reported to the IRS as unearned income. Then, I will get smacked with approximately $3,000 fee on my income tax in April! So, my choices are dismal! I can pay $3,000 at tax time, ruin my credit rating more than I already have, and have no car, or try to find some way to fix this horrible car.I am writing this to obtain help on getting GM to make this car purchase correct. I truly believe there were more issues with this car when it was sold to me than what was reported to me. The types of things that have gone wrong on this car should not happen to a car with less than 100,000 miles on it. Either fix the transmission, power steering, mass air flow and whatever else it needs and make this a reliable car, or take it back and give me something else for the $18,000 I have left to pay on. I cannot continue to make payments on a useless car and feed my child. I need to get to work and back safely. Please help me!

It looks like I am one of many who own a 2003 Saturn Ion where the ignition lock cylinder locks up & cant remove key. It happens many times, twice this week. I went to the auto store & got a new cylinder. I tried to put in it, but now the key goes in & out easily but the whole cylinder will not turn at all, so the car cant be started! Im going to have to tear apart the steering column maybe. I dont want to have to buy another new part costing $84+ tax especially since the new parts probably are defective also. It does absolutely no good to buy the new part & it doesnt work when you install it. Since now the cylinder is completely stuck & doesnt move at all, I cant even use the car! I have to carpool my wife to her job etc, and cant afford to buy another car. Since Saturn & GM knows about all the Saturn owners having this same problem, there needs to be a major recall and a class action suit to repay all the owners for the expenses they incur because Saturn/GM stopped making new cars, and the local GM mechanics, etc. just throw up their hands and say sorry! This is a consumer nightmare.

Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. In January 2010, my family purchased a one owner, 2003 Saturn Vue 6 cyl. It was a great SUV until last week. That was the day the VTI transmission decided to come apart whilst I was driving on the Interstate at 70mph in rush hour traffic. Upon getting it into the old Saturn dealership, I was told by the service manager that this was a known problem, GM had an extended policy on it and I should call the above number to start a claim. I went home and looked this known problem that was not issued as a recall but rather as an internal service memo. Imagine my dismay at finding out that the previous owners had been informed of the problem, traded the Saturn in and were able to buy it all within the space of a month. It seems, according to the attorneys that filed the class action suit against GM, that the notice was to travel with the title (of course it didnt or wed not have bought the car). We were to be offered 5K in credits on a new GM car and there would be no punishment on the trade-in of the piece of junk we now owned. Because it was not recalled, Carfax, NTSB, et al. didnt warn us either.A week later, I finally got a call from GM and was told that I was outside the class, but GM would look into getting me something, no promises. The offer came through today. Theyd give us the 5K in credits toward a new GM car, but nothing else. No trade in (that 5K is the trade in) value and nothing more.

I am furious to find out that GM knew all along about the ignition problems with some of their cars. We bought our daughter a 2003 Saturn Ion in 2004. In less than 2 years the problems with the ignition started. It was a nightmare! She lived 800 miles away and dealt with the car not starting constantly. Sometimes the car would start then shut off and not start again for 15 or 20 mins or longer. The car died on the interstate!!! She could have gotten hit by another car! She had to call the police and they pushed her off the road onto a side road and she waited for AAA to come and haul her car over 100 miles back to her house. This all happened at night. She took the car to mechanic after mechanic to dealership after dealership trying to figure out what the fix was. Finally, a friends boyfriend did some research on the web and saw all the complaints and figured out to take the fob off. That did help but she still had problems with battery needing charged, the battery was being run down even though the car was off. A lot of electric issues. When I read about all the horrible accidents it makes me sick to think these families should not have had to suffer these losses and what could have happened to my daughter. Shameful.

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion with 80,000 miles on it. A few months ago, I got home from work and my car would not shut off. My ignition has never locked my key in. I noticed when I first got the car used that the key could be removed even when the car was running. I thought that was standard, so I could lock the car while it was still running for heat or AC or something like that. I had to pull the ignition switch from under the steering column and then plug it back in and crank to start the car (I used a screw driver because I had no reason to carry the key with me at that point). One week ago, I went to start my car and it wouldnt even start now. It cranks all day and then nothing. I believe there is no fuel going to the injectors and it has to do with this faulty OEM ignition. I filed a complaint just a bit ago and hope for all of our sake that GM honors the BS claims in their commercials and decides to give a ** about their paying customers.

I purchased a 2006 Saturn Vue XL, it had approximately 108,000 miles on it, lots of life left. When I hit 124,000 the transmission completely went while driving down the highway at 70 mph. But loving the look and every other aspect of the Vue I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue XE, it had 65,000. Everything was going perfect and then at 78,000 the exact same thing started happening. It started stuttering while going down the highway and eventually wouldnt even shift into gear. Learning from my last experience I purchased an extended warranty. Took it in, the transmission had gone out, exact same way as the 2006 Vue had. NOW, at 87,000, its happening again!!! I am so irate. A part continues to shave off me. Metal slivers into the transmission causing these problems. This vehicle needs to be recalled STAT!!

I was driving my VUE on the feeder road of the freeway when I came to the stop sign and as I began to take off my engine just revved up and would not go. I put it in park and turned the car off and it started up fine but when I tried to put in drive it just wouldnt move. I then had it towed to a mechanic shop and they looked at it and said it needed a new transmission which would be about 5,000. I took it to several shops and they all basically said the same thing. I was told by this one shop here in Houston, TX that there was a lawsuit against GM and I would have to pay for the repairs upfront but that GM would reimburse me. So I did a little research and I have seen several blogs on this subject but I guess I didnt do enough. I paid the repair shop $4900.00 to fix the transmission and still it doesnt run right. I have had to take it back to them 2 times for them to fix the transmission. GM should pay for the repair costs and there shouldnt be a time limit when we could have filed a claim. Im sure there are more Saturn cars that will be having the same problem in the future and were going to be stuck paying more for repairs than the car is probably worth.

Almost a year ago, the throttle body on my 2005 Saturn Ion became gummed up and I had to take it in for service. The throttle body was not a major fix but once my car was at the shop, it turns out a totally unrelated issue occurred as the ignition switch broke or the shop mechanic broke it and that needed to be replace before they were able to determine that the throttle body was only gummed up, a $50 fix but the ignition switch was $200 plus! And guess what is now acting up? I cant get into the car and turn the ignition switch on the first turn 100% of the time. Mind you, there has been only one key on the key ring since the change last year, as to make sure there was no added stress on the ignition switch. I am going to have to take the car in again for the ignition switch because the problem is getting worse and worse. It seems only a matter of time before I wont be able to turn the ignition switch to start my car. There definitely seems to be a flaw in the ignition switch on the 2005 Saturn Ion. When will there be a recall to correct this and what do we do in the mean time? Keep paying $200 plus?

I have a 2005 Saturn Ion 3. The key wont release from the ignition when I shut the motor off. I have to sit in the car and keep trying to remove it, or wait a few minutes until I hear a thud in the column before it will release. I had a 1993 Saturn, and it had the same key release problem. I cant understand why GM will not admit that there is a problem with ignition cylinder in Saturn cars. My mom has a 2003 Saturn Ion, that will not release the key. It is stuck in the ACC position. Sometimes, if you sit and wait 15 min., it will click and release. We had car to the dealer when it was under warranty but they could find nothing wrong. I realize that they receive anywhere from $500 up to repair this and they are in desperate need of money. No one in my family will ever have another GM product. Something should be done about this.

Same as most of you, my key got stuck in the on position, and would not come out. We asked a mechanic friend who said: Disconnect the ignition fuse (its a tiny red fuse marked #10); if you are going to be out of your car for very long, go ahead and disconnect the battery as well. Weve been driving our car like this for 2 months now, as we cannot afford a new ignition. This will get really inconvenient during rainy season. The car has been unreliable since day one--the window has continually fogged up, need to run it with the air on at all time. Every morning, it bucks and chugs for the first half mile. The car only has 50,000 miles on it and now I have had to replace the starter, and of course the ignition. My work around for this has been to pull all the plastic around the steering column. I pulled the key out with pliers and I can now start it by twisting the ignition bezel. I stop it by pulling the electrical connection at the back of the ignition cylinder. It is a manual transmission. Does anyone have an 800 number at GM that I can call and complain to?

I bought a new Saturn Ion l series and after 4 years, the key begins to stick in the ignition whenever I turn off the car. Regardless what I do it just did not release the key. Sometimes it releases it and then I would hope it doesnt happen but it did. After experiencing this more times than I can count, I drove to the dealer only to be told it would cost me 800+ dollars to get it fixed. I used my car to get to and from work and couldnt walk away. Thank God I had a credit card!!!! They fixed the problem and now years after, I have the same problem occurring again.I agree with many of the owners that GM should have a recall on these Saturns. I do not have any money to pay GM another 400 dollars for repairs that will fail again! In order to prevent the battery from running out, I disconnect the battery when I am at home or when go out. What a job! Anyone can take my car as the key is always sticking out there in the ignition.

I parked a vehicle. I went to turn it off and the key would not turn back to off position, the car would not stop running. I finished to drive home. I tried access to the switch inside the column as pointed out in the drivers manual. Also, I tried turning the wheel back and forth, shifting, etc. as pointed out in the manual. The key would not come out. I disconnected the battery and pulled the fuse on injectors to get it to stop. I took it to the dealer the next morning, after leaving it parked outside, unlocked with keys inside the car and started it by reconnecting the battery and inserting the fuse. The cylinder kit and housing kit were replaced at the dealership and one set of keys were replaced. I was told that both keys would work. I tested them in the dealer lot, neither set worked well in the trunk or the doors, but they both started and stopped the car. The bill came to $701.11. I left the dealership to get lunch, half a mile away, went through drive-thru and then to the office for another half mile away. I parked the car to go inside. The key turned the vehicle off, but would not come out of the ignition. I drove back to the dealership and they rechecked it, apparently sprayed some graphite into the ignition, tested it several times and at this point, works. But I have no confidence in this not happening again. Research on the internet shows hundreds of others that have experienced this problem and no recall to this point. Not even an investigation.

The service department said the locking up problem was not part of the recall and that I needed a new battery or a new starter. I told him that I had already had both of these replaced and the problem was still ongoing. Again he said this had nothing to do with the recall. Then welded place and made a new plate for the 2 bolts where the back mount of the trans bolted up due to that was rusted out also...It is ok now. I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. I have had several of the common issues with the ignition. The not starting because of the security lock thing and having to wait 10 minutes till it resets and you SHOULD be able to start if your lucky. The key not turning and the key not releasing. I love my car and I have gotten the recall repairs done. I havent had any problems with the car not starting anymore but then again from dealing with the issue so long I cant get out of the habit of half turning till the security light turns off then starting so who knows. Repairs did not fix the key getting stuck, still have to use the manual over ride button in the steering column. And after doing more research I now know its the micro shifter in the gear shifter. So many people have the very same problem that GM really cant ignore the fact that something needs to be done.

I actual have had another bad experience with this car. I came out of Walmart and opened my car and started it. Was about to drive off when I realized it wasnt my car but instead the one next to it. I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. I was also informed Saturn no longer makes cars and that complaints dont hurt GM as they dont affect them. We should start a lawsuit.

Issue should not be a consumer problem when the vehicle is dangerous to drive. Im not getting anywhere with Saturn, all these issues I have with my car and no dealer will take the car back or can even fix the car right. I pay out and another sensor issue or transmission issue. I had also experienced three times when Im driving at high speeds, the steering wheel will lock up and car will completely shut down. I have mechanic Invoices from day one and its a stack long, so more times being repaired than I drove it. But dealership says no codes come up and cant figure it and in the meantime, Im paying for a car that sits in my garage cause no one will buy it or trade it in is impossible, and literally had the car a month and all problems occurred. This should be a saturn issue to refund us and take their crappy car back and we should not be out of pocket. I have numerous bills from dealerships and this is a saturn issue, not a consumer problem when the car is dangerous to drive! I am very disappointed that Saturn had not addressed my ignition/steering column problem. Yesterday, I got home from work and parked my Saturn, in the garage, only to discover that I could not turn it off and the key was locked in the ignition. Fortunately, it was early enough to get it to a garage, before they closed for the day. Unfortunately, they have to take the whole steering column apart to get the key out. They plugged the button near the ignition, and did not release it. I would certainly like to see a class action law suit filed, against GM for not resolving this problem, as it seems to have been reported with IONS, for the last 7 years or so, as far as I can see. I just got the loan paid off, so the timing for the car to fall apart is coincidental.

I fell in love with the Saturn VUEs when they first came out with them in 2000. I wanted one so bad. In 2002, I was in an accident in my 1995 Saturn Sedan with a tractor trailer. After 2 years of lawyers fees, I had enough settlement left over to buy a 2003 Saturn VUE. It was exactly what I was looking for, the color & all. I didnt care about the size of the motor. I was excited to be able to buy the car I wanted. Last year, I started hearing a noise coming from the motor that turned out to be the timing chain. Just recently, I had to take it off the road to keep it from blowing the motor. The 1995 Saturn was just taken off the road a couple weeks before with shot piston rings after 135k miles. We are now down to borrowing my father-in-laws truck, leaving us with no vehicle for me to take my kids to their doctors appointment while my husband is at work. I have to drum up $700.00 to replace a timing chain that Saturn knew had problems way back when.I understand that Saturn is out of business, but they are still repaired by GM parts. With all the complaints that I have been reading, you would think that GM would figure out in the long run that it would probably be cheaper to fix the problems rather than wait for the government to finally force a law suit causing more money to be paid out.I still love my Saturn VUE even though the transmission will most likely go out yet. But I have had this car for 6.5 years now & this is the first major problem I have had with it. Many others of you have had major problems from the start. I just want mine fixed. I just dont feel I should be responsible to pay for the problem GM knew was there.

We went back to the dealer and he would not help us out at all. He said it was his problem, not the dealers problem. His first word out of his mouth was, does it have oil in it? It was really low on oil, barely showed on the dip stick we put two quarts in it and he drove it home and the next morning on his way to work, it blew a rod. We tried to get him to help us, but all he said was the car was no good to him now, so my son is out a car and $1000. Please, I just want everyone to beware of this dealer.

I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.

They said it was the key; the tumblers were bad, and they re-keyed it. The Saturn still locks up, and cannot get the key out. Another problem is it would not steer the other day. I waited for a while then it steered just fine, and drove home. How do we get a recall on this issue? You buy a car and pay a lot of money, and then it has no reliability. I am concerned about going anywhere using a car that will just get me stranded.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. This is the second time that the ignition has locked. I got the car in 2007 and in 2009, it locked. It was still under warranty so I took it in and had to pay $50 for them to look at it. They replaced the ignition and the cylinder. It is now 2011 and I am having the same problem. I just got it replaced last week for $175. My car is no longer under warranty so I had to pay out of pocket, not to mention that I no longer have a job and I am still making payments. After getting it fixed last week, it started getting stuck again today. I will be filing a complaint and will be calling Saturn tomorrow. I hate this car now and I will never get a Saturn or GM ever again!

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue, which I purchased used in 2009. The transmission went out in 09 and I had to replace it. GM would only do 50/50 so I had to come up with over $2000 myself. I am now having problems with it again. It needs another replacement and I was told that the warranty on the first transmission was for 12,000 miles or one year so GM will not help with replacement. The only thing GM will do is give a small credit towards a new GM vehicle.

I have purchased a 2009 Saturn Aura. Recently, my power steering light has been coming on. Just a week ago, I turned the key on and my steering wheel was going crazy! It was shaking! Two days later, as I was driving, my power steering light came on and started beeping and my steering wheel got stiff! I couldnt move to the side to get off the road, so I ended stopping on the middle of the street and shut the car off, took the key out and the steering wheel wasnt locked again. Just today, I was driving and my steering wheel froze on me! So I had to again stop the car to turn it off and I started up the car again! I took it in and they couldnt find anything wrong with it! I am posting this as an insurance to make Saturn liable if anything happens to me while driving and this steering wheel freezes up on me and I’m in an accident due to this problem!!! There seems to be a lot of problems in regards to the power steering. But my vehicle freezes up on the steering column and I’m not able to move the steering wheel to move out of the road! Please help! I myself wanted to change the power steering, but if it’s not showing up on the computer code as a defect. Why do it?

I love my car (2005 Saturn ION coupe)! However, as the weather warmed up, my key would not come out of the ignition. I looked up how much it would cost to fix this and the price was outrageous. As with the other comments, why is this not a recall item? You cant get out of the car unless you have the presence of mind to hit the door lock, which may be difficult as we have been programmed to find the door unlocked when the ignition is turned off. Cheap temporary fix: under the steering column is a small diamond-shaped cover and I popped it off and pressed my thumb on a switch on the left-hand side (switch has spongy feeling - and a little greasy) and turned the key at the same time. No problem. This is temporary and will not stop the key from getting stuck again, but Id rather be inconvenienced a bit than pay out the nose for something that is well documented and should be fixed by a recall.

I have been bitten by the Saturn transmission failure beast! Everything was fine for the two years we had owned the vehicle, until last Sunday. On the way home from an event, the transmission started slipping as I turned the corner to my house. The next day, when my wife drove to work, it was slipping in and out of gear. When she finally made it to work, she had no reverse to get into her parking spot. I went and retrieved the vehicle and went right to the repair shop. As I walked into the door, the service man said, transmission problems? I said, Yes, how did you know? He said the it was a known issue on the Saturns and GM does not stand behind the vehicle. I will be responsible for the repair, which would be a complete transmission overhaul (cost $3,200)!I am very upset that GM refuses to help their customers on this problem! I have purchased many GM products, but if this is how I will be treated, it will be my last! I am going to begin my quest to get some assistance from GM. But based on what Ive read, I dont have much hope. I will update this if I get any different response than what is already written here. If anyone knows of a class action suit being started, please post so I can join!

My 2003 VUE (3.0) hit the 100K threshold a few months back. I noticed increasing delay in starting, so decided to change out plugs with iridium ones. Ran great following new plug job. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a few trouble codes causing my Check Engine light to come on. First was for Cam Shaft Position Sensor, and second was for low temp sensor. After ruling out fuses, faulty connectors, etc., I decided to replace the Cam Sensor (easy), and thermostat (especially since it had never been done). When I finally finished the job, the car wouldnt start (turned over though). I pulled my hair out for weeks looking for reason for not starting. Had mobile mechanic come out, and could only tell me it sounded like compression loss and/or timing problem. Finally had it towed to shop. Their diagnosis was a skipped timing belt (4 teeth), which caused a few valves to bend etc, etc... Now I am looking at $3000 to $3500 to fix the problem (I hope). I replaced the water pump and timing belt a few ago and drove it without a problem until what I thought was routing thermostat replacement - boy was I wrong. The cost to repair is about $2K less than getting a rebuilt engine, but is still at that grey point between getting work done or not. The optimist in me is hoping for another 100K miles after all is said and done. Not too happy with GM at the moment. Parts cost an arm and leg since Saturn is no longer produced. Hope it works out in the end.

I bought a 2004 Saturn Vue, second hand from a dealer in 2007. The first sign of trouble (2008) was a loss of power coupled with clutch to the floor. I managed to get it in gear and drive it to a repair shop (not a dealer, but a very reputable local shop). The master clutch cylinder was shot. Its cost was $400. The mechanic also informed me the car was going into gear, but with a grinding chirp in third. He said it was most likely a synchro ring.I then left on a cross-country trip. A day into my trip the clutch was springy again, so I topped it up with Automatic Transition Fluid (Oops--should have been brake fluid). Four hours later my clutch pedal froze and then finally just fell to the floor. Luckily I was right at an exit with another very nice repair shop. It needed a full clutch system replacement. One week in the shop, and $1500 later, I was back on the road. The second sign of trouble was last winter (1/2011). The car would run and shift, but not go into gear again. The clutch, however, was still feeling normal. Having no money, I started researching possibilities. This was when I learned of all the Saturn transmission problems. Luckily, I noticed an anomaly on the shift linkage. The tension pin in the shift linkage sheared off both sides of the input shaft. I managed to get two thirds of the pin out, but the middle pin was fused. I couldnt get the new pin in more than half way. It was in far enough to shift the car so we just left it at that until I could get back grinding the pin out or whatever. The third problem (3/2011) was a replaced, worn, passenger side, wheel bearing. The fourth problem (6/11) was a severe loss of power and blinking check engine light. The AAMCO repair shop found a bad coil pack, $500 to get fixed, but the engine light is now steady on. (The original repair man said a very narrow fault tolerance on one emissions computer was known to put the light on in this model of car and it would sometimes be on and sometimes off). Finally (10/11) I start having problems getting my car into third, then a clunk and now I can only use 1, 2, 5 and R. It is likely that the synchro ring finally broke. I might replace the transmission myself because I can almost afford $1k; no way I can do or would do more. I emailed Saturn to see what they would do about the transmission which is known to have many problems.

If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. I financed a used car (2009 Saturn Vue) on the evening of 2/22/13. On 2/23/13 early afternoon, as I was driving with family members, the car caught on fire. A young lady pulled up next to me and told me that I had fire falling from underneath my car. We immediately pulled over, jumped out, and called 911. The firemen came, put the fire out and did an investigation for their report. They said it looked electrical, but couldnt say for sure. I had the car towed back to the dealer. They were closed on that Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to talk to someone. They do not want to take accountability. They stated that they had to treat this as a new car sale and I had to file an insurance claim. I told them that I hadnt even had the car 24 hours, that I want my downpayment back and the contract cancelled so that I can go and get another car elsewhere. An inspector went out (from my insurance company) and also said it looked electrical, but he could not say that that was the definite cause of the fire. The dealership wants me to go through with the claim. They offered to pay my insurance deductible, but thats it. The sales manager went on and on about how the Saturn Vue was the best used car that they had on the lot and how superior their service inspections are, etc. That is all the more reason for me to be concerned. Them offering to pay a $500 deductible does nothing for my insurance going up, my inability to be able to trade that car in down the line since it had a fire. And since the root cause of the problem could not be found, there is nothing to keep it from happening again. I want my down payment ($1500) back and I want to go elsewhere and get another vehicle as soon as possible. I am currently without a car. I spoke with the salesperson and the sales manager. I was told that the general manager would call me and he did not, nor did the owner. I should not be held accountable for their car catching on fire in less than 24 hours. I drove home from the dealership Friday night, to my cousins funeral on Saturday morning and the car caught on fire while I was driving in the funeral procession early Saturday afternoon.

In 2006, I purchased a new 2006 Saturn Ion. I loved it at the time, but since then have had numerous problems. It is a lemon. I had to have the ignition system replaced because my key would get stuck in it every time I turned the car off. It is now doing this again. I have had the entire computer system replaced twice because all the gauges went hay wire while driving and wouldnt stop. Recently this has started happening again. Two years ago, my automatic windows stopped rolling down, then suddenly started working again for about 2 months, and now dont work. Talk about fun when going through a drive through and having to open your door because your windows dont work. My cigarette lighter fuse has to be replaced about once every 3 months because it shorts out. Last week I was adjusting my rear view mirror and it just fell off. It didnt come unglued from the window, but the ball and socket joint somehow broke and cant be fixed except by ordering a completely new mirror because for some reason you cant order that one little plastic part that broke. For the last year my gas gauge has been completely inaccurate. After filling up completely it says I only have 1/2 tank of gas and after driving for 20 minutes my gauge is on empty. So I have to rely on my low fuel message to come on, which Im sure wont be long before that breaks as well. The only good thing is that I havent had any engine trouble...yet.

I bought my VUE new in 2003. Loved this car. Just right for me. All of a sudden it started stalling out while driving down the street. All the dash lights came on, the steering and brakes were gone. All of this in rush hour traffic in Denver. Took it in...paid out just over $900 to try to find out what it was, didnt help. Picked it up on Friday, stalled in traffic on Saturday. Did some research found out this was a problem with the 2002-2004 Saturn VUE and Ion. During those years the Saturn VUE was on a car chassis or so Im told - and beginning 2005 on a truck base. I went to the GM dealer after this last brush with death and was told I probably needed a new transmission.....$3,800. Found out about the GM class action suits in California and other places regarding the Saturn VUE. I had the car towed....not driving it. Certainly not trading it in for someone else to be hurt. Looking for a good used car now.

My experience is really bad and I hope that, by writing this review, I would be able to refrain people from buying at SATURN. I wanted to buy a new fridge and the old one to be picked up by SATURN (which is mandatory for law). I did my order by the customer service to be sure that every detail would have been clear and I did explicitly said while ordering that I would have liked the old fridge to be picked up. Eventually I received a confirmation of my order without that specification. For this reason, I called many times to change the order and although the people from the customer service promised me that they would have changed the order, they did not. So at the end I receive the new fridge but the old one hasnt been picked up. Now I am sure that it was a strategy from the beginning not to specify my wish and also what they did afterwards. I think the employees form the customer service are thought to do so. For this reason I wont ever buy at SATURN. I will also dissuade people. Really bad experience!!!!

Like many of the complaints above, I also had a problem with the ignition lock. I was going out to dinner, parked my car, but when I went to turn off the vehicle, they key wouldnt turn. I called AAA, and the rep who was dispatched asked if it was a Saturn Ion (its a 2007 Ion with about 65K miles on it), which was interesting to me. He said my best bet was just to take it right to the dealership. When I parked it outside the GM dealership and went in to explain the problem, they too asked if it was a Saturn. Clearly this problem is more wide-spread than I thought. Both the AAA rep and the mechanics at the dealership are aware this is an issue with Saturn vehicles. At the end of the day, theyre replacing the Ignition lock cylinder and housing for $540. I called GM/Saturn to file a complaint, seeing as everyone seems to know this is an issue and there are hundreds of documented cases on this site alone. I was told Ill get a call back next week because they are currently updating their system that deals with manufacturer defects/recalls and special considerations given regarding such issues. Im assuming theyll tell me Im SOL, but heres hoping. Ill provide an update when I hear back from them.
