Don't buy a Volkswagen. I made the mistake. And I'm here to prevent you from doing the same thing. Here's the deal. Volkswagen is a dishonest company. Dieselgate proved that. Some of the company's former executives are now in prison. They're literally convicted criminals. But the issue is beyond Dieselgate. Volkswagens tend to feature some really nice German engineering with some fatal flaws that make the cost of ownership rise astronomically. Volkswagen Group of America takes no responsibility for any of this and instead only responds when it faces a class action lawsuit. I purchased a Volkswagen CC in 2010. It was an amazing, graceful vehicle for the first four years. And then became -- and remains -- like a star athlete who got injured early in his career, turning into a shell of what he once was. My Volkswagen CC is the Penny Hardaway of cars.First there was the carbon buildup issue with the intake manifold. Long story short, the intake manifold has a design flaw. It results in the buildup of carbon deposits. This is a common issue with VW and Audi direct injection engines. VW will lie to you about why it happens, blaming the type of gas you use. Cleanup costs $500-$800 to clean. Two VW dealerships lied to me about aspects of the issue, telling me two different stories. VW Group of America refused to pay for the cleaning. Ultimately, I had to get it cleaned by a non-dealer specialist. And now my turbo is failing, putting the longevity of the engine at risk. VW Group of America refuses to cover the replacement of the turbo, though the dealer technician said he's seen a lot of turbos fail.I've had a host of other problems with this car. Leaks, replacements of shocks and struts, multiple battery failures, and frequent flat tires. There's a class action lawsuit alleging that the suspension of the car has a design flaw, causing premature tire wear. That's happened with me. I've had to buy a total of 12 additional new tires for this car. I've had to replace the battery three times. I've had to get the intake manifold cleaned. Now I have to get the turbo replaced.I have a spreadsheet detailing my maintenance and repair costs, toiling in roughly $10,000 over eight years. There are other repairs various dealers have recommended that I did not get done or chose cheaper alternatives. Altogether, they would have totaled more than $6000 more. Every dealer comes with their own set of $2000 recommended repairs.Anyway, there's a clear pattern: these problems I've experienced are mainly based on VW design flaws. The fuel pump issue (for which there's a recall) causes the battery to drain. The suspension design flaw (for which there's a class action lawsuit) causes the tires to wear quickly. The direct injection engine causes carbon buildup on the intake manifold. And my guess is there's some fatal flaw with the turbos. VW is a company that only responds to these issues when facing legal action. That's why their execs are in jail. Don't make the mistake I made. Don't buy a Volkswagen. They continue to deceive after Dieselgate and should be out of business. Unethical people.

I was in the market to buy, cash, a 2016 beetle SEL but after reading the hundreds of reviews against a few good reviews I have decided not to purchase. With each review read, it was like reliving the days when I too owned a 1972 beetle. The same problems then are the same problems now - the window, door paneling, door handle falling off. When I read the factory warranty was 3 years 36 months that was a BIG turn off. Who does that anymore? It's a HOAX! RUN! I am 64, a widow and ready to have some fun. That fun will not be with VOLKSWAGEN! Thanks to all beetle owner reviews.

Have a 2012 Volkswagen CC that needs 7200.00 worth of engine work on a part that broke before it was even due to be inspected based on Volkswagen’s service maintenance guide. Called Volkswagen to see if they would cover the repair, or at least give me some kind of assistance. They basically said my warranty was up, I’m on my own. Which really surprised me. My reasoning for asking Volkswagen to make an attempt to correct this problem, was that their service maintenance guide said, “90,000 miles, timing chain and tensler should be inspected, and possibly replaced." Well my timing chain, and tensler did not make it to the 90,000 mile inspection. Which in turn destroyed my cylinder head when it broke. Leaving me with a 7,200.00 repair bill. BUYER BEWARE!!! VOLKSWAGEN CARES NOTHING ABOUT BEING FAIR, HONEST, OR TAKING CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. If you're looking for a car, spend your money elsewhere.

I lease the Rabbit, because the salesman stated I could buy the car after 48 months with purchase option around $8,500.00. The value was written on the contract. In the last month of my lease, I called VW to confirm the payoff - $8,500.00. So, I'm going to refinance the car for purchase or trade the car. I found a Nissan. He agreed to give me $10,000.00 on trade. It's a fair deal; the VW was listed for $12-14 thousand. The Nissan dealer signed a power of attorney to procure the lease title of the VW. VW told him his payoff was $11,930.00. Now, I've driven the Nissan off the lot. I called VW again, asking what difference it does make if the payoff check comes from me or a car dealer. They said, "Don't send a check with the dealership's name on it." To make a long story short, though I could have paid off the VW myself, Nissan didn't want to wait for the title. I lost about $1,500.00 through re-negotiations plus emotional trauma. The payoff should be the payoff. Monopolizing and false advertising are illegal. Nowhere on the lease contract did it state the payoff would be different if you were trading in the car at Nissan. I found a form faxed to Nissan from Bill **. VW apparently could purchase the car for $8,500.00. If you want to trade, buy your car first. The leasing company pays all sales tax on the total price of the vehicle when you sign the lease. So if you purchase the leased car, maybe you pay tax on the $8500.00 figure. Nevertheless, look up the Illinois law definition of false advertisement. The omission or concealment of material facts on which a person relies upon when purchasing a product is hereby illegal (paraphrase). There is no way I could have known this was going to happen to me. It was not stated on the lease agreement.VW lied; they told me that at the end of the lease, I could trade the car at any dealership--Dodge, Toyota, etc.--and that VW of America would honor the purchase option price. What a crock. But how do we know when it's not written in the least contract. The payoff should be the payoff. You buy a house, the payoff is the payoff. You refinance, the payoff is the payoff. I called for my payoff before I went looking for another vehicle. What VW is doing needs to be outlawed under truth in lending laws.

Sometime in March, 2019 I decided to bring my car in for evaluation - there was some strange rattling noise coming from the front left area around the wheel. I called the numbers listed on Island VW website and I couldn't get a hold of anyone because the line would either ring and then disconnect or go to straight to a busy line. I tried the chat on their website, but no one responded because I am guessing I was doing this at 830am. Then I called the sales number a few times and by some chance someone answered in sales and that person was the one who scheduled my appt, not the service dept. I brought my car in, I left it over the weekend for inspection, and on Sat I was called (Jimmy) and told the left axel (?) was worn off and that it needed to be replaced.I picked up my car a few days later and the next day I heard the same noise. I thought I was imagining things so I waited until my partner drove the car and said that the issue is indeed still there. I drove for another three days just to make sure we are not going to call and complain for no reason. Once established that the issue is there, I called the dealership. Same problem again. The line rings and disconnects. OR it goes to a busy signal right away. I waited another day or so and attempted again. Same issue again. I tried the chat and demanded that someone calls me. Jimmy called and I explained my problem. I said I would like to bring my car in again because the issue hasn't been resolved.I asked that they provide me with a loaner this time as my work demands me to travel from one clinic in the morning to another in the middle of the day. He said they didn't have any loaners. Then I asked them to cover for a rental that I would rent in order to get to work. He said that wouldn't work either. So I had to accommodate my schedule, wait until a weekend that I don't work to bring the car in. He agreed. At this point, while speaking with him, the phone disconnected twice!! So when he told me, "Call us next week when you know when you'll be able to bring the car" I explained that calling their dealership is close to impossible, as evidenced by the dropped calls.He gave me his cell phone number and said to contact him there. And I did. Left a vm, waited several days and when no one called me, I decided to call Volkswagen America Customer Service, on 4/30 or 5/1. I spoke with a lady Renee who tried contacting the dealer herself. She ran into the same issue, the lines weren't working. So she said she would continue to call and get back to me. On 5/1 she left a vm on my cellphone, stating that she was still not able to get a hold of them but that she would be able to schedule me an appt on the website. However, at this point I had missed the weekend I was off and I needed them to provide me with a car to get to work. She said she wouldn't be able to do that online.The next day, she called me and said her manager was able to get a hold of someone in the dealership who explained that they don't have loaner cars at that time and when one becomes available they would call me. Guess what? That call never came. At this point, I decided to call my bank and file a dispute. I have three VW at home and I will never, EVER, buy another one. I am selling them all and will be buying something else. Which is a bummer because I never had an issue with any of my cars. I bought them in Seattle, Carter VW, had the best experience with them. Everyone else related to VW was a disastrous experience.

My 2006 VW Passat died on me at 87,000 miles about a week ago. After receiving the countless letters about the parts of my car that they'd be happy to service over the years because, oops! They realized they're faulty, my car left me stranded about a week ago. The service people stated it'd be 4-5 thousand dollars to repair. According to Kelly Blue Book that's about how much the car was worth 2 weeks ago when it ran. Every time I took this car in to be serviced, the VW technicians would present me with a list of the issues with the car, ranked in order of severity. Whereas most car techs are trying to swindle the customer out of money (historically), I actually believe the VW technicians were being honest: my VW ACTUALLY was riddled with problems that were no fault of my own, simply because these cars suck! The technician informed me that one matter in need of attention was the crack somewhere in the structural frame of the front of my car that could get progressively worse OR may just continue to exist but never cause a problem. How does a car that hasn't ever been in an accident suddenly crack? I never realized the internal frame of my VW was made of eggshell...My advice? Steer clear of VWs. Even my friend's CC tells him "Service Now!" every time he starts his car, and it has less than 10,000 miles on it. You'll know quickly you've made a mistake when you received the letter about the engine coils that are bound to malfunction or whatever other part of your recently purchased vehicle will screw you over next... On a separate note... Anyone wanna buy a project? If you like restoring dead cars, the VW dealership in Cary said they'd give me $150 for it... top that and it's sold! :)

Really not happy! I have received a notification from the DMV that I will not be able to register my 2012 Golf unless I provide a certificate with proof of airbag correction. It states that I should contact my local dealer for a free repair and gives a phone number to call if problems occur 1-800-242-4450. Well the dealer acts as if it's not their problem and the operator on the 1-800 "help" line says he has never heard of this!!! I was instructed to ask the DMV what I should do!!! Really!?! I paid $30,000 for a 2012 Diesel Golf that now has an airbag that can kill me and a total fraud in the emissions category!! I have no faith that VW will make good. So very disappointed. I will never buy a VW again.

I spoke with someone at VW customer service on the phone July 1st, 2016 who assured me that I could make a payment through the automated system via telephone on July 4th at 8:00am. I was hung up on all day yesterday and now it is July 5th 10:20 EST and I cannot make a payment via online or through the automated system. The customer service rep told me my credit will not be affected. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Now going on 1 full hour on hold with customer service 800 number. Still have not spoke with a live person while I am calling the automated number as well. Normally, my car payment is due on the 4th of each month so I tried to make my payment through the automated system on July 1st. They have been performing "system maintenance" for 5 days now. I am giving 1 star but if I could give 0 I would. Never buying a VW again and it's a shame I've had 3 and like the cars but this is not worth the stress and horrendous customer service or lack thereof.
