Scion is a discontinued marque of Toyota that debuted in 2003. Intended to appeal to younger customers, the Scion brand emphasized inexpensive, stylish, and distinctive sport compact vehicles, and used a simplified "pure price" sales concept that eschewed traditional trim levels and dealer haggling; each vehicle was offered in a single trim with a non-negotiable base price, while a range of dealer-installed options was offered to buyers for personalizing their vehicles. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or heir, refers both to the brand's cars and their owners. In an effort to target the generation Y demographic, Scion primarily relied on guerrilla and viral marketing techniques.

The boxy xB put the Scion brand on the map a decade ago, but since then, the Toyota-based breadbox has grown long in the tooth. On the plus side, the xB’s spacious interior gives it utility in spades, enhanced by extra bins beneath the rear seats. It’s highly customizable, too. But even though it’s long on space, the xB is short on charm, with a ho-hum 158-hp four-cylinder engine, outdated five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions, dull chassis, and mediocre fuel economy.

Hello group. I up until Dec 03, 2016 owned a 2006 Toyota scion t/c which I loved very much and took very good care of. I am now in the process of screening attorneys and contacting my insurance company because my driver's side airbag deployed in my face right after accelerating from a cold start from leaving work. I got in, started my car and realized my gas light was on and my airbag light flashed which never happened before. I turned my wheel and put my car into drive and accelerated and that's the last thing I remember before someone beeping their horn asking if I was ok. The pictures and video below are proof that this really happened. I was briefly knocked out and was told I accelerated into a light post. If you own a Scion there is a recall on side airbags for this problem but not driver or passenger. I advise you call Toyota today and make an appointment.

Last weekend my ~1 year old Scion FR-S dies completely out of the blue on the 405 while my eight month pregnant wife was driving it. This is a car that is just over one year old, was bought new from this dealer, and is still under warranty. We get it towed to this service center Saturday. Eddie ** tells us: "We'll know what's wrong by the end of the day!" and "We'll cover you for a rental. Just call us Monday morning!" Monday morning comes around. No word about what is wrong with the car. All calls to Eddie go to voicemail. No calls are returned. I walk to the service center and find Eddie. He says he is still "waiting on authorization from Japan". He tells me he will not offer me a free rental. I'm late to work and have to rent a car from Enterprise to get to work. The next day Eddie tells me that they will not cover clutch repairs under warranty. I have never abused my car, and in previous warranty services have reported clutch/transmission issues which they failed to investigate properly or fix. They tell me that if I want the car fixed under warranty I have to authorize a tear down of the transmission. They provide no quote detailing how expensive this tear down will be. They say that if they find the problem after the tear down is the clutch they will not cover it. If the problem is in the transmission and is a covered by warranty they will cover it. I ask them about the other possibility, if they tear down and find no issue with the transmission. They say in that case I will have to pay for the tear down (again, not provided with any estimate of tear down cost).I decline based on the fact that I have never abused the clutch, and we have experienced and reported previous clutch/transmission issues (and have recorded video evidence of this prior to service where they "could not reproduce it" happening) it does not seem reasonable that I should be liable for paying for investigatory work to determine what is wrong with my car under warranty. I decline to authorize the tear down. When they refuse to negotiate or provide further information, I am force to tow the car to another dealership for service.

I bought a 2007 Scion Toyota brand new, I did the oil changes and maintenance as required. I started having problems with the oil consumption. This has been the worst car ever. I am very upset that I have to frequently check my oil because it runs low. I'm a full-time student now and this car has been very inconvenient. I don't think I will ever consider buying another Toyota car again.

I bought Scion TC on 8-8-09. About 3 months into owning, I discovered the driver seat had white spots left on it when I brought it in for service. They said they would clean it. About 3 days after cleaning, the white spots returned on the left side of seat only. When I brought it back again for oil change, I made mention on the bottom seat as well as the side seat that seemed to have frayed mark. On third visit, I got an attendant who seemed to care and was more helpful again. They cleaned the seat. Again, a few days later, I had the same problem. When I brought the car back again, side seat was worse and starting to rip. They then said that they would replace. I had a new seat cover put on. Soon again, the bottom seat had white spots on the left side, and the side seat has white section looking like it is fraying. When I brought the car to the dealer, I was told that white spots were from moisture that I caused by sitting on the seat with shorts after I had sweated or something. First point is if it truly was caused by moisture, then why is it only the left side is problematic? Second, I do not get to my car all sweaty; I use it to go back and forth to work. In the morning, I am freshly showered and I have been in air conditioning all day. So, I sure not understand the dealer's reasoning, because it has been a problem early on of my buying the car. As for the side seat, at first, I was told it was from the seat belt, which again makes no sense to me. If a person spends about $200,000 for a car, even if I did sweat on the seat, it should not get white spots. To me, it seems as if there was problem with the original material. If I try to sell the car, I will get less because of the white spots. All I am asking for is for the original problem to be fixed. As someone who has bought 5 new cars, this is the first time this problem has occurred. But the dealership's overall inability to care about my problem is very frustrating. I would like some better resolution and/or an actual answer that makes sense.

My car had a knocking noise. Had the car towed to FRED HAAS Toyota in Spring, TX - they will not warranty the car because the engine had no oil. However NO notification lights came on to warn us of any low oil pressure, therefore I was not aware that the engine did not have oil. We have maintained this car within the 3 to 5000 miles. As matter of fact the car is well taken care of - it is our baby. I cannot get Toyota to provide any info as to WHY WE NEVER got a warning light on the car if the oil was low. They will not go into that nor do they want to discuss. FRED HAAS AND TOYOTA both have just said no oil so it is not warrantied. This is not acceptable since it is clearly a malfunction somewhere whether it is the oil pump and the warning lights. I want answers and this car is to be warrantied.

I can not understand how Toyota want you to spend 2,000 dollars fix in a toyota scion 2012 replacing the whole rack & pinion when I only need the inner tie rods, my rack & pinion is in good condition but they do not offer the inner tie rods and you can not find them online. How you make a car and not offer the parts to fixed. The rack & pinion cost 600 dollars plus labor. I call toyota and they don't know what they talking about telling that is a whole assembly. They lie you can take out the inner tie rod. I did by my self but I have to put them back because no body sell them. People think twice if you want to buy a scion because you will be in the same position that me. This is ridiculous.

I have a 2007 Scion tC. The air bags did not deploy, and the ABS did not work! This happened in 2007. I was told nothing could be done, so I didn't push it any further. I just came across this site, so I thought I'd share my experience, and maybe, eventually, this issue will be resolved. I was traveling on the highway, going approximately 70 mph. I pulled out behind someone to pass another car (and I gave a good amount of distance before I pulled out), when the car I pulled out behind slammed on their brakes for no reason and basically came to a stop. I slammed on my brakes and swerved to miss them. My wheels locked up even though I supposedly have ABS! I ended up fish tailing, I lost control, and I slammed into the guardrail on the right with the front of my car, completely destroying the front of the car, so that everything was pushed back towards the cabin and the engine was sitting on the ground.I had to climb out a window, because both doors were jammed. The guardrail also left a perfect indentation all the way down the left side of the car. After hitting the guardrail, I then ricocheted back across the highway where the rear of the car hit the center median wall, and then the car spun back out into the middle of the lanes. My 2-month-old car was totaled! After all of this, the air bags did not deploy! Thankfully, I had my seat belt on! The fire department said I most likely would have been thrown from the car if I wasn't wearing it. I was very lucky and walked away with just bumps, bruises, and a bit of stiffness. Toyota told me that I must not have hit the air bag sensors. The whole front of my car was smashed in, and I hit the guardrail basically head on! How did a sensor not get hit?I even spoke with a lawyer. They told me that my medical bills were not high enough to make a claim, and because they weren't high enough, Toyota wouldn't do anything about it. That wasn't even the point I was trying to make by going to the lawyer. This is unsafe! And clearly, I'm not the only one that had this issue. I've been told the first couple years of the tC had airbags that were too sensitive, that they'd go off if a door was shut too hard. I think they overcompensated big time. This needs to be addressed before someone gets severely injured or worse!

There’s a clutch failure on my 2010 Scion xB with 25,000 miles on it. The clutch went out while driving on interstate. I was able to pull off, but the damage was done. Toyota claims the clutch was a wear and tear item like the brakes. It was not covered by warranty. I have driven manual cars all my life. I never had one give out that quickly!

I have a 2012 Scion XB in which the paint on the roof and side quarter panels have been peeling. Spoke to local Toyota Dealer... never returned call. I now need to pay $2500.00 to repaint the vehicle as the original paint job was defective.

I leased a 2013 Scion IQ from Vancouver Toyota/Scion of Washington (State). At the time of the transaction I was told that the maintained agreements were transferable from state to state. I have since moved to The Big Island of Hawaii, and have found out that the Toyota rep. lied. I am currently at Big Island Toyota having to pay for the 15k routine service that should be covered by Toyota. I am happy with my Scion IQ, but will never buy a Toyota product again and will make sure that all my friends and family know of the dishonorable business practices that Toyota espouses. Please do not buy any Toyota products.
