I have a 2007 Saturn Ion. Last year, during summer, I got in the car to go to work and my key would not turn in the ignition. So, I missed work, had to get a tow, and had to have the ignition lock/cylinder replaced on my car (that I am still making payments on). Now, a year later, my key keeps getting stuck when I try to turn the car off.

My 2005 Saturn Vue auto transmission started slipping and banging after about 3 years. I was in fear of a major repair bill. I received a letter in the mail from GM stating that the 2005 Vue transmission was being recalled due to faulty assembly. I was instructed to take the car to the Saturn dealer. If I had already repaired my transmission, I was supposed to submit receipts for reimbursement of repair cost up to $3000. I took it to the dealer and they found the transmission was faulty and was covered under the recall. The dealer installed a new transmission at no cost to me. The limitation was the car had to be 5 years old or less and/or certain amount of mileage. Check the Chevrolet dealer who should be able to research this for you. Hope it helps.

Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?

Saturn Vue original trans failed at 121,500. Based on what I read, I was lucky to have had it last that long. As new GM failed to uphold the results of the lawsuit, that is to cover replacement for a defective product, I had to pay $5000 for parts and labor to replace. I was told warranty is 3-year/36k miles. I went ahead, thinking if I get three years that would be great and worth the money. Now, at 2 years and 34,000 miles, I have a failing trans and am being told that no, the warranty is only 12/12. I am screwed. Even my mechanic was told 3/36 by dealership where he bought it. Get it on paper, people. I cannot afford a new car or $5k to get another bad trans. I am stuck in PA.

I have owned my 2001 Saturn L300 car for more than one year now. I never knew it will give me so many problems and I am not proud of the decision I made to buy this second hand car. Moment I bought the car I had to replace the serpentine belt, crankshaft sensor and muffler. I was also told by my service experts that it had issues with water pump and that is leaking and will break one day, which I thought I ignored for some time as I had already paid lot of money in repairs. After 3 months the battery started giving problems and had to replace the same and then the water pump started making noise which I had to fix. Meanwhile while I had battery problems, I didnt notice but apparently the ODOMETER went from 64000 miles to 694000 miles and stopped working at all. On further research, I found that this is a known issue in this car and Saturn had a recall organized some time back. But now when I took the car to GM dealer for this fix, they are not able to fix the problem, not sure what I can do?

I have had my 2007 Saturn Ion for 1.5 years. It only have 30K miles on it. I have had to replace the ignition key holder thing because the key got stuck in the ignition and the car couldnt turn off. Now, Im starting to have power steering issues. The power steering was shut off on two separate occasions while driving. The ignition system put me back $750. Luckily both times I wasnt on the open road when the power steering shut off (residential area the 1st time, parking lot the second time), so I was able to maneuver to a stop. Turning the car off and back on made the steering come back...but for how long? I doubt Ill be lucky everytime. Guess I better keep lifting weights until I can get this fixed.

Like everyone else, my key got stuck in the ignition and would not turn off. I had to unplug the battery and take the fuse out to get my car off. I would also like to be involved in a class action suit against GM because I dont believe that we should be responsible for their faulty parts not working. I should not have to worry about if my car will turn off or not. That should be recalled and corrected.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. I have had several of the common issues with the ignition. The not starting because of the security lock thing and having to wait 10 minutes till it resets and you SHOULD be able to start if your lucky. The key not turning and the key not releasing. I love my car and I have gotten the recall repairs done. I havent had any problems with the car not starting anymore but then again from dealing with the issue so long I cant get out of the habit of half turning till the security light turns off then starting so who knows. Repairs did not fix the key getting stuck, still have to use the manual over ride button in the steering column. And after doing more research I now know its the micro shifter in the gear shifter. So many people have the very same problem that GM really cant ignore the fact that something needs to be done.

I love this Saturn, shes 2008 Saturn Aura. Its American-made, it has a nice roomy interior, the colors are beautiful neutral, the truck space is wonderful and there are certain aspects about it like cruise control and sunroof. This is a wonderful car. It has all the things that you need including air conditioning, Heat, great radio comfortable seats, cruise control, large back seat, large trunk, its well-made and easily maintained. It gets decent gas mileage and Ive driven it for over a hundred twenty thousand miles and were still going strong. But the drivers seat is hard to get just ride in terms of distance from the gas pedal and distance from the steering wheel so that youre not up on the wheel but you have some ability to be somewhat back, the rear view mirror never seems to quite be where it needs to be, and it doesnt always have the most energetic get-up-and-go of any car Ive ever owned.

I have a 2005 Ion Saturn, which I have had problems with the ignition switch on this car since I bought this new. Before, I couldnt get it to start and they fixed that. Now, I cant get the key to come out of the ignition. I have had numerous people look at this. They have checked the fuses, tried the shifting lever, but to no help in getting it out.I have a child that I take to school and I am afraid I wont be able to get her there on time, also to get her home. Why doesnt anyone fix this? I am on low income as I have not been able to work and have no money to stick into this car. This piece of junk has been nothing but a pain since I bought it, which I didnt want to do in the first place but was talked into by an elder salesman saying this would be a good car for me. Ha! I have a 2001 Saturn SL1 with about 140 K miles. I have always owned Saturns since they first came out. We presently have a 2006 and 2007 Ion as well. All these cars were purchased NEW!! They were all serviced at the scheduled maintenance time. All of a sudden I had a major problem with the transmission of the 2001 car. It would just drop or slip in all gears, Including reverse. Since two years ago I paid 375 dollars to have the 2006 ignition problem fixed and then a few months later the same amount to pay for the 2007 Ion to have that ignition problem fixed (this was before the big GM recall even though I called often to see if there was a recall on that problem and told NO). I am now skeptical when I’m told there is no problem or recall with the transmissions either. I think someone at GM needs to look at all these transmission problems and correct them. Most people cannot afford to pay $3000 to fix a problem that serious.

Vue 2.2 5MT 2004 - I bought this car after careful consideration. I needed an SUV, 5MT (I love manual) and a gas saver. Saturn Vue was one of very few vehicles on the US market which satisfied my requirements. However, before buying it, do your research (as I did)! The 2.2 engine is good on gas and has chain instead of belt (so no worries about changing it), but stay away from 2.2 CVT vehicles!!! This is the most unreliable transmission I ever heard of. I have never read a single review about CVT where the transmission wasnt changed (which costs about $5000). 5MT Saturns only come with FWD, no AWD versions, but I have never experienced any problems getting stuck even during this horrible winter. And in terms of reliability, 5MT cannot even be compared to CVT, its very difficult to kill it, only if you dont know how to drive a manual at all and shift with grinding all the time - while a CVT can die every moment, without warning. However, with 5MT, dont forget that you should change both your transmission fluid (DEXRON III, dont use VI!!! Or, I use Pennzoil Syncromesh) and brake fluid in the clutch mechanism in time. Some people think these dont have to be changed, and its completely wrong. If your fluid is black, youre certainly killing your clutch or transmission. If youre a DIY person, its very easy to do both. However, there are several serious drawbacks. First, at RPMs above 3000, the engine is noisy. And at the same time, the transmission is built very strangely, so that at 40 mph you can already put it in 5th. As a result, at highway speeds (~70-75 mph) your RPMs are between 3200 and 4000 approximately. So engine noise inside the cab is guaranteed. Its not too loud, but its audible, the only thing that makes it tolerable is the whistling of air (I couldnt understand where its coming from) so that the engine noise doesnt seem so loud. I dont know why Saturn made such a transmission. I was riding with my friend in his Honda, its automatic, but still, at 60 mph his RPMs were only about 2000, while Saturn has at least 2500 on the tachometer even in 5th gear. Why make such a transmission? Of course its noisy when the engine runs constantly between 3300-4000 RPM on a highway! And at the same time, why did they install this dashboard which proudly says that the maximum speed is 130 mph? This transmission cant go even close to that, it will reach maximum RPMs well before. And by the way, if the engine didnt work at such high RPMs, it would have even better highway gas mileage. This is Saturn...I wont say anything about cheap plastic materials in the cab, I dont care about this, and its not a luxury car. If you need extreme comfort and expensive cab interior, buy something like a Cadillac and pay for servicing its numerous electronic devices. For me, the advantage of this car is its simplicity, I can fix or change most of the stuff myself. Also, there are stupid things which are just gross mistakes of the designers. Take the clutch: the bleeder valve is metal, but the tube which holds it is plastic, so if you want to change your old black fluid and then bleed the system, be very careful, because the valve may be rusty and stuck, and you can easily break the plactic tube and disable your car until it is replaced (youll have to buy a new master brake cylinder as this tube is not sold separately). Why couldnt they make this tube metal instead of plastic, knowing that there may be some effort needed to turn the valve??? Probably because its cheaper...And finally, Id like to mention the headlights. In this car they are the most horrible Ive ever seen. They sit in deep wells so the light beam is very narrow and only lights up a small piece of the road, not speaking about street signs - you can forget about it. At the same time, if you try to install a powerful bulb, youll see the other problem - the idiot designers didnt make a glare screen in front of the bulb, instead, theres a strange-looking and completely useless tube! I have specially looked at lots of other vehicles, they all have either projectors or a glare cap! But Saturn decided that Vue drivers dont need them! So if you install a powerful bulb, you have to make sure its the type with end painted, otherwise oncoming drivers are looking directly at your bulb, not covered by anything! At the same time, this light is just wasted, instead of being reflected by the glare cap and thrown onto the main reflector to magnify the beam. Bravo, Saturn! A very wise decision! I also have to mention that the high beams are poor as well, and they are located separately from low beams (different bulbs) but adjusted together. Which is horrible because normal car manufacturers make high beam HIGH - so that its ABOVE low beam cutoff. No such luck with the Vue - the high beams are practically on the same level as low beams, and if you try to raise them so they can do their work, low beams are raised too and start blinding oncoming traffic! But if you adjust low beams so that they dont blind, your so-called high beams point to the ground and are practically useless! Ive never seen more stupid headlights. And worst of all, there are NO aftermarket modified (e.g. projector) headlights for this car, theyre all the same stupid type! But overall, the cars not bad and I didnt have too many issues with it. Just dont buy CVT versions. And check the clutch before buying it, the replacement is expensive. If you dont know what to look for, bring a friend who knows a lot about manual cars.

I have a 2004 Saturn ION and my key kept getting stuck in the ignition. One day, I came home and could not shut my car off. I was just getting home from taking my daughter to the doctor because of a temperature of 103 (plus it was also 90 outside) so instead of taking her in my house to let her rest, we went to the mechanic. Fortunately, I didnt take it to a Saturn dealership, where I would have been way over charged. I went to the local mechanic where I paid $300 to get the key out of the ignition and have a new ignition installed. Obviously, this is not just a fluke and Saturn needs to pay for the repair. Now, neither of my windows will go up or down either; one stopped and then three months later, the other. I dont know why Saturn is not around anymore.

Plus the vehicle was very good on gas mileage. But I did not like the car. Disliked the battery compartment in the trunk. I did not like that most of the parts where cheap plastic that wasnt durable. My 2007 Saturn Aura XR with approx. 80,000 miles would not engage in gear. After towing it to transmission repair shop, was told it had essentially disintegrated and was completely shot. I have been reading hundreds of identical complaints with this model year transmission. When I emailed GM customer service, I was told my VIN was not part of this transmission recall. Many others were told the same thing yet its the same problem with this model year (The door was damaged when it rolled into a pole when I thought it was engaged in park). I own a Saturn Ion level 2, and today, my car got stuck in the on position. I could not get the key out or shut the car off. I had to take the neg wire from battery to shut things down, but the key is still in the ignition switch. What is going to be done for all of us that owns this car? There are a whole lot of people with the same problem, so obviously, there is a major problem here with our cars. Someone has to take some action for us. Who is going to help us? Do I have to keep putting the neg wire back on just to drive, take it off to shut it off? Come on. Someone somewhere must be in position to take this problem on because like myself and others, we are all spent out and cannot keep paying for a problem that is a problem with the manufacturing of this car! So, can anyone tell me where to start and how to fix this bucket of plastic? Class action suit. seems to me, should happen but they are no longer in business, so who do you sue? Not to mention, I still owe 2 years of payments on this car. Wow! They said it is the ignition lock cylinder but it comes with no key. So how the heck do you start your car if you get a new one? I have been complaining about an issue with my 2003 Saturn for just over 3 years. Each time I contacted GM they said that this issue was not a problem in Canada. I found numerous writings on the internet of owners having the same issue. Recently I was driving along when a warning sound came on and my message center lit up with the message PWR STR, the service engine warning light also became illuminated. This time I had a passenger in my car who witnessed how the car was a challenge for me to control and manage. I contacted 3 or 4 GM dealerships presented them with the letter of awareness I received from GM advising that I may experience this issue with my car, I was told they are not aware of the Power Steering issue and that I would need to pay for any repairs. I finally contacted GM and was told to take my car to a dealership and pay to have a diagnostic test completed and if it revealed that there was an issue with the Power Steering I would not have to pay the charge for the diagnostic test. As most people who have posted their complaint online have indicated that they have paid out large sums of money for repairs that did not resolve the issue. I was told by the dealership today November 14, 2011 that I needed to replace the Transmission Control Module @ a cost of $999.50 plus installation charge of $230.00 for a total of $1,413.93. I am posting this as I want to make sure that there is a public record should I be killed or left with injuries so severe that I cannot communicate, at least my family would be aware that this car was defective and GM did not make the necessary repairs.

I had same problem which turned fatal for some people. Electrical problems from alarm randomly going off while driving, interior lights coming on, stalling out completely while driving. Cost me a fortune to repair. Got rid of it. I have had 6 Saturns since 1990 and from a family of GM employees. In my opinion, and firsthand experience, GM mismanaged Saturn, essentially killing it either out of sheer incompetence or intentional neglect. [I mean, what company copies the same exact cars the Saturn made and advertises them but ignores the marketing for Saturn?] So what was once proudly touted as a 97% American-made car, was now in 2004, a car with parts from all over the world. Coincidence? I think not. It opened in 1990 as the site for Saturn manufacturing and continued through March 2004 as the sole manufacturing plant overseen by the Saturn subsidiary. After the United Auto Workers ratified a new contract in March 2004, the plant became part of General Motors... Wikipedia, accessed 3/13/2015. I own a Saturn Aura 2007 [its an American built Opel Vectra GMs German brand that always has been superior]. I will run it into the ground but then never buy another GM car again. Then right at 100,000 miles the transmission went out. After a year, it is fixed. Then as soon as we get the car back the vents for ac and heat went out. Somehow they started working again but the heat stopped working and its been out for about a year now. If we got rid of the car we would have lost out because we did a trade in, they gave us so much lie about fixing this car. We didnt know what to do but keep this hunk of junk. We owe 4000 on this car but its not worth 400. What should we do? Oh and from day one it had bad alignment, its not worth the trouble. Saturn Aura, you have to do better.

Bought my 03 Saturn wagon 5 years ago. Engine light stays on 3 years now. Clears out with mechanic. Get it to pass inspection. Light comes back on. Horn died, trunk lock had to be replaced, eats tires and sway bars like crazy. Put new brakes every year. Everything rusted underneath. New manifold. Needed catalytic converter twice. Now I just cant put any more funds into this car. Seeking a different vehicle now. Only has 167,000 miles. I drove a 96 Subaru wagon into the ground. It had over 200,000 miles and still ran awesome. It was the body that finally gave out. Disappointed in the many needed repairs. Doesnt shift out of first without struggling either. The clock gains a minute every couple weeks.

My head just might explode!!! We bought our 2008 Saturn from a certified dealer about 3 years ago. The vehicle had just about 30K miles on it at the time. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed that the engine light would come on and the service StabiliTrak light would come on. I obviously brought it back to the dealership, as it was under warranty at that time, and they said they figured out the problem and sent us on our way. Of course, no sooner did I pull out of the shop, and they light came on again. So, back we went...they said they repaired it. Sure enough, it did it again and they eventually came to the conclusion it was just a stupid sensor and everything was actually fine!Fast forward to December 2013 and the POS starts acting up. The transmission light came on and I panicked. My brother-in-law suggested we just try putting in more fluid and see if that helps. We did...it helped for about 2 days. And then...HELL BROKE LOOSE!! The entire transmission was shot!! It had something to do about a wave plate and as a result, we needed to get an entirely rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $3,600!!! Literally, on the way home from the repair shop, the engine light started flashing! I immediately turned around and brought it back to the shop. They ran some tests and determined that it was likely some excess crap that just happened to pass through the sensor causing it to get triggered. Now, 8 months later, the engine light keeps going on and whenever I fill my car with gas, I have to rev the accelerator to get it to start!! It seemed to be running ok...but after the last fiasco, we didnt want to risk anything. So, I brought it into the shop. The technician find that there has been over 36K misfires from cylinder 2 and that the spark plug has seized. I leave my vehicle there and drive their 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 232K miles on it over the weekend as a loaner. (amazing how a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 232K miles is still running, but my 2008 with 92K miles on it is toast). Anyways, he said that they wanted to replace the spark plugs and then try moving the cylinder coil that had been connected to the #2 over to a different one to see if maybe the issue was just the cylinder coil and nothing more serious.I receive a call this afternoon telling me that it appears that the issue was not related to the cylinder coil and they suspect we are going to need a NEW ENGINE!!!!! Yep, thats right...A NEW ENGINE!!!! This car does not even have 100K miles on it and I am being told I need to put a NEW ENGINE in it??? After we already replaced the transmission!!! That is seriously wrong and a total load of crap!!It appears that both the transmission and the engine are well-known problems for this model and year of vehicle!! I guess 2007s are experiencing the same troubles!! If you look online you can see discussion board after discussion board all discussing these same issues. Saturn needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a faulty product!!! There is no reason I should have to put in over $10K worth of repairs on a vehicle with less than 100K miles on it!! It is disgraceful!!!

I purchased a 2002 Saturn SL2 in 2006 from an individual who kept it as a summer car. It only had 26,000 miles on it. I drove the car and loved it. In 2011, the transmission suddenly started giving problems when the car had about 77,000 miles on it. I took it to a transmission shop and they put in a rebuilt transmission. It cost me $1,500.00. Now at 114,000 miles, that transmission is doing the same thing - clunking into gear, slipping out of gear, hesitating and then suddenly clunking into gear. I have decided to get a different car even though I love my Saturn.

Growing up we were always told not to buy American cars because their cars are built to fall apart just after the warranty is up. After decades of driving foreign cars with very few to no major issues, and shortly after the collapse of GM, we decided to support American made cars and help do our share. We bought a 15 month old lease return Saturn Outlook with 15,000 miles on it. The truck looked great and drove well for approximately 20 months to drop the kids off at school and do the local errands. Then, out of nowhere, the transmission went. Since the vehicle had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty, we werent too upset; however, when we towed the truck in for repair, the dealer told us the warranty had just expired 6 months prior so they wouldnt honor it and it would cost us close to $4000 to repair it through GM.Around that time we also started having airbag light issues where they were sometimes on, sometimes off. We had it looked at by GM and were told it was probably a dummy light issue and everything is fine. 1 year later we received a recall for the exact problem we had yet when we called to arrange a repair, we were told our Vin number is not part of the recall and not eligible for repair. After speaking with numerous people in GM over the next 10 months, someone in GM told us that there was going to be another airbag recall coming soon and that our Vin number would be included. To this day, no additional recall has been issued and we are told GM will not authorize a repair. This is ridiculous! I guess you have to die in a crash in order to get this company to do the right thing? We are having it looked at this week and will continue to fight for what shouldve been done from the start but have learned the lesson for good this time. At least to stay away from GM.

Spring 2011, we bought a 2007 Saturn Ion2 from a local dealer. I noticed that there was a lot of complaints about the ignition switches. I asked the dealer about it, he said he hasnt heard any of it. The car had 80,000 miles but was in excellent condition. The key switch did stick occasionally, we were told to get another key made. I told them if I have a problem with this, I expect them to fix it at their expense. All they said was, if it fails within the 30 day warranty they will replace it. The switch is now locked up. I get the bill. What crap. Saturn should be held liable for using known defective switches.

Bought a 2009 Saturn Outlook last year with 64,000 miles. Beautiful car and body in really good shape. Loaded with everything you could think of. 2 weeks after having it, it would make all kinds of noise when turning and sound really ruff. Took it to a GM dealer and it was completely out of oil. They could not find any leaks or that is was burning oil. Needless to say putting oil in it was a once a month thing.Steering went out - had to pay $1900 to get that and the rack and pinion repaired. One week later we lost all power to the car driving down the mountains in Virginia. Spent $1,000 to get it towed back to Ohio to spend another $100 to put on analyser. Now they are saying we have to pay another 1500 for GM to tear it down so GM specialist can look at it since they still cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I still owe on this car and they said once they figure out whats wrong it could cost another 4 to 5 thousand to fix it. This has been the biggest headache. I cant believe we spend the money we do on cars and they dont even last 5 YEARS.

It looks like many people are dealing with this and I was told that this is a Saturn/GM issue. Has anyone found recourse to correct this very common occurrence with these vehicles?

I had the ignition switch replaced during the recall. As soon as I went to pick up the car I knew it wasnt corrected. The key did not shut off the engine. How did the mechanic not know that there was still a problem? So I went back into Fergusons GMC and informed the service desk. The guy was rude and nasty, treated me like I didnt know what I was talking about. I was so disgusted with it that I left. I am still battling this problem, and dont understand why this can not be addressed properly. All the peacocks on capital hill know that this is an issue, they know it has cost several folks their lives, and they know that not one consumer is being treated fairly. I am furious to find out that GM knew all along about the ignition problems
I am furious to find out that GM knew all along about the ignition problems with some of their cars. We bought our daughter a 2003 Saturn Ion in 2004. In less than 2 years the problems with the ignition started. It was a nightmare! She lived 800 miles away and dealt with the car not starting constantly. Sometimes the car would start then shut off and not start again for 15 or 20 mins or longer. The car died on the interstate!!! She could have gotten hit by another car! She had to call the police and they pushed her off the road onto a side road and she waited for AAA to come and haul her car over 100 miles back to her house. This all happened at night. She took the car to mechanic after mechanic to dealership after dealership trying to figure out what the fix was. Finally, a friends boyfriend did some research on the web and saw all the complaints and figured out to take the fob off. That did help but she still had problems with battery needing charged, the battery was being run down even though the car was off. A lot of electric issues. When I read about all the horrible accidents it makes me sick to think these families should not have had to suffer these losses and what could have happened to my daughter. Shameful.

I own a 2009 Saturn Outlook XR with approximately 84000 miles on the vehicle. The transmission has failed on the vehicle, and the warranty was for five years or 100,000 miles. My local dealer has said the five years are up and they will not give me any consideration for repairs and want over four thousand dollars to repair it. When the towing company placed the vehicle on the roll back, the operator made the statement that he averages quite a few of these a week! This vehicle has had at least six recalls on major issues, water pump, power steering, power tailgate, seat belts, and etc. I can assure you this will be the last GM vehicle that I will ever buy. I have talked to two transmission shops in town and have been told that this transmission has had issues from the very start, and GM has been working on correcting the problem with the transmission. I was told GM has made three changes in the last twenty-four months to correct the problems with this transmission. Thanks GM, for keeping your customers updated on a defective transmission.

Then welded place and made a new plate for the 2 bolts where the back mount of the trans bolted up due to that was rusted out also...It is ok now. For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problems with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I purchased my vehicle brand-new in 2006. I loved the car. But in 2010, my vehicle would not shut off. I took the vehicle to a crappy GM dealer that took 3 months to fix the problem. I paid $300 to get the ignition chamber switched out. In 2011, I had another problem. I couldnt take the key out of the ignition. Luckily, since it was within one year, they fixed the problem under parts warranty. Now, 4/11/2012, I couldnt turn my vehicle off again and was late to work trying to remove the key. I had to leave the car running, and my husband drove to my job, got in the car, drove it home, and had to remove wiring to shut it off. I called Saturn Customer Care and have to take the vehicle into the nearest dealership. I have to pay for the diagnostic, and so on and so forth. I am upset. This is ridiculous. Once this problem is fixed, I am trading in my vehicle; someone else can deal with this problem. I want to know if I can sue. I will even settle for them just buying the car back from me, so I can buy a new car. I just cant deal with the headaches, time, and money anymore. Anyone with these issues, I suggest calling Saturn Customer Care at 1-800-553-6000. You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket.

I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.

I started smelling gas in my 2006 Saturn Ion in October of 2016 and took into a local service center to have it checked. They informed me that it was the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced right away. Well in my mind all I was thinking is my car could catch on fire so I agreed and they did the repairs on 11/11/2016 to the tune of $437.79. Later I find out that this was a special coverage recall and that my local dealer would have did the job at no cost to me. I called customer care and explained that I felt like this was an emergency and was not thinking about my local dealership which is 20 miles away. She gave me a case # and told me to get a reimbursement form from dealership and submit the papers and surely they could do something. Well I sent paperwork off in January 2017 and now in March since I have not heard anything I decided to contact them. They informed me that my claim was denied and that my vehicle still has the coverage so if it happens again take it to the dealership. I told her how upset I was and this was awful that I am out off pocket for something that was their fault. My car is 11 years old with 104,050 miles on it and the cap for the coverage is I think 150,000 miles. I would hope that a fuel pump would last longer than a few thousand miles. I have had nothing but problem with this car from the moment I bought it and I agree with everyone else about never owning another GM!!

I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue on 7/7. A month and a half later, the issues began. On 9/2, I started seeing smoke coming out of the vents with a strong coolant smell as if the antifreeze was burning. There was also an oily film on the windshield. I thought that it would go away but it continued the following day and the day after. It worsens if the air is turned on.Not even two months after purchase, my vehicle took its first trip to my privately owned auto shop. I was told by the mechanic that the hose for heating and air conditioning needed to be cleared out for any blockage. The vehicle was fine for a day or two and the same issue occurred. On 9/9, I returned to the shop and the hose was checked. There was no smoke or vapor from the vents or oily film on the windshield for two days.I called Saturn customer service to report this issue. They took all of my information and told me to take it to a GM dealer. I made an appointment with Mike Anderson, a GM certified dealer in Merrillville, Indiana. I was told that I will be charged $79.95 for each problem or complaint. On 9/16, I took the vehicle back for a different diagnosis and was told that the heater core needed to be replaced due to a fracture causing the antifreeze to leak. The antifreeze or coolant drips on the engine causing a vapor or mist to blow through the vents, causing an oily film on the windshield. On 9/21, my vehicle was dead. It wouldnt start at all. Yes! A vehicle that wasnt even three months old had a dead battery, I assumed. I used jumper cables to revive it. On 9/23, I took it to the GM dealer to be told by Joshua ** in customer service that the diagnosis is a fracture in the heater core and the entire part need to be replaced. In order to perform this repair, the entire dashboard had to be removed. Also, the battery was very weak. Joshua quoted me $1,600.00 plus $79.95 for the diagnosis. Who has that kind of money these days? Joshua attempted to bring me the vehicle and the vehicle was dead again. He used jumper cables and drove it for about five minutes and delivered it to me.I called Saturn customer service back and gave Julie more information on the diagnosis and the cost. She asked for my private auto shop that I use normally and I gave that information also. She worded the complaint as seeking reimbursement for repairs and gave me the misunderstanding that I could take it to my privately owned auto shop.I got a return call two days later only to be told that I should have taken it back to the GM dealer for repairs because they reduced the cost. What a disappointment! Why wasnt I told that in the first place by Red at customer service when I called on 9/9 or Julie when I called on 9/26? In the future, customers should be told not to take their vehicles to an outside shop because assistance cannot be given.

It was the second time the key locked, and I was unable to remove it. The first time it happened at 9,000 miles; I was over one hour from home, and drove back home. I pulled the fuse, and it was towed to the dealer. It was under warranty, and the ignition replaced. The second time it happened it was at 37,000 miles. I was in the parking lot for doctor’s appointment when it happened. I missed the appointment. I drove to the dealer, and they replaced the ignition. I paid for labor only, but am going to ask GM to pay for that too. It was very stressful and scary. The comments are that this is a defective part.

2006 Saturn Ion wouldnt turn off and the key wouldnt come out. Broken ignition lock cylinder. I called GM to get resolution. It took 7 days for GM to tell me that I am screwed for buying a GM vehicle and despite the facts that the Saturn Ion vehicles do not have this problem and that I should pay the dealer the full $299. From the salesman to the service department it was the best experience ever. I have 96,000 miles. I bought it with 7 miles on it. Can someone please help us resolve issues? We own a 2004 Saturn VIN #**. We had the transmission replaced in 9/3/2010 at 74,562 mileage. We paid $2,137.87 (invoice #**). My problem is that the transmission is out again and the car has 88,000 miles on it. Surely the transmission should last more than 13,500 miles? The transmission was replaced by Saturn of Fort Worth. We contacted them and they are no longer a Saturn dealer. Their phone number is (817)367-1000. Will this repair have a 36-month or 36,000 mile warranty? What are our options? Please advise.

My daughter has a Saturn ion redline that was part of the recall. Her car started to have problems starting, so she took it to a repair shop and they ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong with the car. It happened again, so she took it elsewhere and they suggested she change the battery - so she did. The very next day she had difficulty starting the car on two occasions and on the third attempt later that night it would not start at all. Since the recall had been for the car suddenly shutting down - not starting, we didnt think about the recall until after that. She had hit a hidden bump in the road before it stopped completely. She called the former Saturn dealer and told them what happened and they said it was the recall (we had read up on the forums and knew it was by then) and to have it towed to them - which we did. They gave her a Buick to drive. Today they called and said they had replaced the part and it still wouldnt start so it had to be the cars engine. They want to run diagnostics (which we had already done). Understandably, we dont trust them. Has anyone else had this experience?

Ive asked and taken it to get it checked and no one can tell me what the issue is! It is so frustrating because I have called the dealership and get no answers from them either! I cannot afford to lose the car but no one wants to buy it so I can buy a different one. It makes life so difficult when I have to go to work or do what I need to do. I hate that this car. The car only has 50,000 miles on it and now I have had to replace the starter, and of course the ignition. My work around for this has been to pull all the plastic around the steering column. I pulled the key out with pliers and I can now start it by twisting the ignition bezel. I stop it by pulling the electrical connection at the back of the ignition cylinder. It is a manual transmission. Does anyone have an 800 number at GM that I can call and complain to?

If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. The engine lights come on and the radio and inside light but the engine wont click or make a sound of any kind. Its just not right for them to make cars with such horrible defects. I actual have had another bad experience with this car. I came out of Walmart and opened my car and started it. Was about to drive off when I realized it wasnt my car but instead the one next to it. I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. I was also informed Saturn no longer makes cars and that complaints dont hurt GM as they dont affect them. We should start a lawsuit.

In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.

I wanted to reply to Patricia of Signal Mountain, TN on June 25, 2014 specifically. Unfortunately the dealer and auto body shop you visited seem to be unaware of this particular issue that has affected many saturn customers. I bought a 2003 saturn ion brand new and 6 months later had my first issue with the car not starting. It wasnt a dead battery, or any other issue. It just would not start. I could go try again an hour later and the car would start. My ignition switch was replaced twice under warranty and it needs to be fixed again. The problem is something in the faulty wiring that trips a security message in the computer of the car that will not allow it to start. I recommend that you look it up online (google, youtube, saturnfans.com). There are countless pages dedicated to the exact issue your daughter is having. When you get a grasp of what the issue is, speak to a trusted mechanic. Let him know what you found out and I am sure they will be able to help. The solution is often as easy as a $25 ignition switch replacement.

I took my Saturn into the dealership to be fixed. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before stopping. The dealership stated that the car was not safe to drive at all and that the brake booster hose ($33.00 part) needed to be replaced. After 3 full weeks in the dealership without repair, the service department requested we call and see if we could get a part as General Motors was not able to supply the parts to fix the car. I called the parts supplier as I was told by Maria that General Motors did not have the parts for a Saturn and did not have a clue when or if they would.” She made it clear that the parts supplier wont talk to General Motors and vice versa.I asked her what GM was going to do about my predicament. She told me that I should not expect GM to have the parts for the car due to its age (Federal Law mandates parts be available for 10 years post production) and GM would do nothing to help. GM expects me to buy another car.I asked about the 10-year law and how GM was going to handle that. She stated that the part has not been discontinued and that means it is available. That backordered indefinitely leaves them within the scope of the law. I am aware of another person who has waited 14 months for GM to make the part needed for her car.

Our 2009 Saturn Outlook ONLY has 53,000 miles on it. The 100,000 mile warranty was up because we have just barely had our vehicle 5 years. We have taken it to the same dealer for the life of the car, and taken very good care of it. I was driving to work the other day and my power steering and transmission completely went out. I almost lost control of the vehicle several times. It started when I was at a stoplight, when I pressed the gas to accelerate once it turned green, then my car lurched forward but only revved up. I made it work and then it wouldnt go in reverse at all!. I had it towed to a trusted mechanic. He told us it was indeed the transmission and power-steering but also that the rack and pinion broke. We had our car to the dealer several times for the whining noise to be fixed but they only ever told me they didnt hear the noise. I called GM, who told us to have it towed to a certified GM dealer and that the power steering should have been under a special coverage warranty. Turns out GM was sued and lost in court because of the power steering. The dealer then refused to diagnose my car without us paying them a $1,000 up front. I told them it had already been diagnosed, and if this was covered under their special warranty, then why on earth should I have to pay this large amount of money up front. The service manager told me he did NOT believe that our problem was covered under this special warranty and that the transmission doesnt go out because of the power steering. He said one doesnt have anything to do with the other. Well funny, then how they both went out at the exact same time. I went round and round with both the dealer and GM and neither of them want to take responsibility for what has happened. Especially considering we have documented proof (the dealer has it in their computers) that we had our car to them multiple times to have THIS exact issue fixed. I believe it is time to get another law suit started. GM needs to fix their faulty vehicles BEFORE someone gets severely hurt or dies! We had it towed a 3rd time to be taken care of by our mechanic since the dealer refused to diagnose our vehicle. Do not ever trust GM or their Certified dealers, all they care about is lining their pockets.

I bought a 2004 Saturn Vue, second hand from a dealer in 2007. The first sign of trouble (2008) was a loss of power coupled with clutch to the floor. I managed to get it in gear and drive it to a repair shop (not a dealer, but a very reputable local shop). The master clutch cylinder was shot. Its cost was $400. The mechanic also informed me the car was going into gear, but with a grinding chirp in third. He said it was most likely a synchro ring.I then left on a cross-country trip. A day into my trip the clutch was springy again, so I topped it up with Automatic Transition Fluid (Oops--should have been brake fluid). Four hours later my clutch pedal froze and then finally just fell to the floor. Luckily I was right at an exit with another very nice repair shop. It needed a full clutch system replacement. One week in the shop, and $1500 later, I was back on the road. The second sign of trouble was last winter (1/2011). The car would run and shift, but not go into gear again. The clutch, however, was still feeling normal. Having no money, I started researching possibilities. This was when I learned of all the Saturn transmission problems. Luckily, I noticed an anomaly on the shift linkage. The tension pin in the shift linkage sheared off both sides of the input shaft. I managed to get two thirds of the pin out, but the middle pin was fused. I couldnt get the new pin in more than half way. It was in far enough to shift the car so we just left it at that until I could get back grinding the pin out or whatever. The third problem (3/2011) was a replaced, worn, passenger side, wheel bearing. The fourth problem (6/11) was a severe loss of power and blinking check engine light. The AAMCO repair shop found a bad coil pack, $500 to get fixed, but the engine light is now steady on. (The original repair man said a very narrow fault tolerance on one emissions computer was known to put the light on in this model of car and it would sometimes be on and sometimes off). Finally (10/11) I start having problems getting my car into third, then a clunk and now I can only use 1, 2, 5 and R. It is likely that the synchro ring finally broke. I might replace the transmission myself because I can almost afford $1k; no way I can do or would do more. I emailed Saturn to see what they would do about the transmission which is known to have many problems.

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion with 80,000 miles on it. A few months ago, I got home from work and my car would not shut off. My ignition has never locked my key in. I noticed when I first got the car used that the key could be removed even when the car was running. I thought that was standard, so I could lock the car while it was still running for heat or AC or something like that. I had to pull the ignition switch from under the steering column and then plug it back in and crank to start the car (I used a screw driver because I had no reason to carry the key with me at that point). One week ago, I went to start my car and it wouldnt even start now. It cranks all day and then nothing. I believe there is no fuel going to the injectors and it has to do with this faulty OEM ignition. I filed a complaint just a bit ago and hope for all of our sake that GM honors the BS claims in their commercials and decides to give a ** about their paying customers.

I bought my Outlook in April 2009. So far the transmission has been replaced (warranty thank goodness) & there have been recalls on the safety airbag light & now power steering. Those are the flaws GM admits to. I have a consistent drip when it rains that can easily turn to a stream of water if Im pointing uphill or downhill. Checked the Internet & its been verified Saturn cut the drain tubing too short. Checked with GM to see if they would fix it but they said I needed to work a deal with the dealer who want going for it. Turns out the water has drained right into my fuse box so now my electrical is messed up. The fuse box is impossible to get to. Among other problems my service airbag light wont ever turn off - fuse issue or real problem, Im not sure. Worried it will cost me a fortune to fix & on one income with 2 kids thats a tough call. Then today, I turned the car off & it kept running. Key was out! Now I read there are ignition problems. Wish all these reviews were out when I bought my first almost new car ever. Teach me!
