Over the last two months, I have had some problems when I would turn my car off and the key would not disengage after. I fooled with it and the key would disengage. Was driving to work on 6/13 13 in the morning; I was running along at 65 when I heard a slight click noise. At the same time, the engine and the gauges cut off. The radio was still working. I coasted off-road, turned the key again, and the car started right up. Never had that happen.Got to work and went out four hours later to start the car. It started right up, but I could not turn it off. I tried everything I knew. I took it to a local shop, and they replaced the broken parts in the steering column for the ignition key and the switch assembly. Total cost was $598.00. Does anyone know if there was a silent recall for that issue that they are not telling people? I would like to know.
If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. Call me a definite ex GM customer. They should be ashamed.
I had same problem which turned fatal for some people. Electrical problems from alarm randomly going off while driving, interior lights coming on, stalling out completely while driving. Cost me a fortune to repair. Got rid of it. I have had 6 Saturns since 1990 and from a family of GM employees. In my opinion, and firsthand experience, GM mismanaged Saturn, essentially killing it either out of sheer incompetence or intentional neglect. [I mean, what company copies the same exact cars the Saturn made and advertises them but ignores the marketing for Saturn?] So what was once proudly touted as a 97% American-made car, was now in 2004, a car with parts from all over the world. Coincidence? I think not. It opened in 1990 as the site for Saturn manufacturing and continued through March 2004 as the sole manufacturing plant overseen by the Saturn subsidiary. After the United Auto Workers ratified a new contract in March 2004, the plant became part of General Motors... Wikipedia, accessed 3/13/2015. I own a Saturn Aura 2007 [its an American built Opel Vectra GMs German brand that always has been superior]. I will run it into the ground but then never buy another GM car again. Mismanagement should not be rewarded.
My transmission on my 2004 Saturn ION is dead! With the cost to have it replaced, I decided to do internet homework. I cant believe all the complaints! I find it difficult. With these complaints, GM should recall their product, not turn their backs on their customers. I called GM and they said they may offer a GM credit between $1,000.00 and $5,000.00. If they cant do a recall, do you think they will give a $5,000.00 GM credit? And why would I buy another GM product? Is there a class action lawsuit out there? Thanks GM, for the situation you put me in!
This GM consumer is appalled that GM has chosen not to issue a recall, knowing the automatic CVT transmission in the Saturn Vue 4 cylinder vehicles are known by GM to totally fail while in operation. My Saturn Vue has 130,000 km on it and is sitting in my backyard unusable from transmission failure. GM has announced NO MORE CRAPPY CARS. Well what about our lives, and the safety of our families and love ones? GM received a lot of BAILOUT money literally from taxpayers, and this is how they are treating those people who put their lives in the hands of someone who obviously holds profit and shareholders interests above all else.
My mother, like most people who received a recall letter in the mail this past year and who also happens to be one of the fortunate ones that can live to tell this story took her 2005 Saturn Ion to Love Chevrolet to have it serviced due to the ignition switch recall. Mind you there had been no issues with the car prior to. Where some people might say Saturns were poorly made my mothers car was actually one of the good ones. I always felt safe in it and more than safe enough to have my 5 year old daughter in the car. Whats the motto? If it isnt broke, dont fix it? Well, to say the least the day after Love put a generic ignition switch into her Saturn Ion handed her a new set of keys and told her the car was more than safe to drive long distances it was being towed off the side of the road. Their claim? My mother needed a new starter, 2 coil replacements and a new module and that the timing of the repairs was coincidental with what took place. The dealership was quick to tell us how much it would cost to replace the parts and was even quicker to let us know they would not be paying for it. Coincidental? Really?? Strike one. Thanks, GM. A few days later a family friend and mechanic does some research online, finds a starter from another Saturn and installs the part himself hoping to save my mother some money. However he is unable to run a diagnostic on the module because there is a code to get into it and only GM knows this code. Does that even sound legal to anyone else? GM has a code on your car making it near impossible for you to send it to any other place to have it fixed?? Its brilliant and slimy all at the same time..more slimy than brilliant. Anyhow, once the starter has been replaced all is well for about 3 hours and then its back to the side of the road we go. However, this time weve noticed some things. The car has no power, almost as if the battery has been drained and there is a smell coming from the ignition switch like something has burned up. So, with better judgment my mother decides to have it towed to a very trusted shop out in town instead of back to the GM dealership. I myself am military and stationed in Norfolk, VA and I often times wait to have maintenance done on my own car until Im visiting my mother in SC at this very shop, that is how trusted they are to me and my family. They explain to my mother that it is her ignition switch which is burning up her starter and draining her battery and they will personally give GM a call to find out what can be done since they should replace their faulty part. Sounds about right to me! GMs rebuttal? The mechanics my mother chose are not certified GM mechanics, a diagnostic was done previously while the car was at GM and since then my mother has had multiple hands in the car which could have caused those failures. They cannot be held responsible and will not be held responsible. Once again, GM was prepared with the labor and parts quote. Strike two and three. Thanks again, GM. Now, tell me something. Even if we were willing to have GM fix this again the trust is now out the window and my mother would be afraid to drive her car anywhere much less with my 5 year old daughter in it. I believe they would quietly fix the ignition switch issue and tell her it was something completely different. Is GM secretly trying to make up all the money they lost in labor for these recalls by putting parts in to cars they know are not necessarily compatible in hopes that these codes will force people to come back and have to pay out of pocket expenses? I know that my mother would hate to have another car payment right now but I have a feeling that regardless of if we spend the money to fix this or not that is exactly where we will end up, in a Honda dealership. People, please pay attention to what is going on out there with this recall. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else or worse. Thanks for absolutely nothing GM.
I have had this car (2005 Ion) for about 2 years now and I like it; however, the ignition is very temperamental and sometimes I have to fiddle and finesse with the ignition so I can remove the key. It hasn’t screwed me so far, but I know it’s only a matter of time before it probably will. GM needs to recognize this problem and should have it recalled. Another fellow who wrote a review said to use part number 20869121 instead of the OEM part, which is the same piece of junk that’s in it now and will only give you the same problem.
My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone!This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe. I had issues off and on for a couple years from miles 50,000 - 90,000. Currently at 105,000 miles and the last 15,000 miles, the ignition stops at ACC and is locked every single time I turn off the car. I wait and hope every time that my key will come out, but held hostage by the lockout until a miracle occurs and the ignition releases the key without rhyme or reason. Sometimes this takes 1 - 10 minutes. Makes it difficult to valet or go anywhere with friends!
Because I feed the community I need an SUV that was reasonably good on gas and had great recommendation. I love a smooth riding car that has plenty of room. The features on this Saturn Vue are very basic. It is very important to me not to be distracted while driving. It has been a great Driving Experience. It also is good on gas. I have driven quite a few miles with no problems and it is very important to me to have a lot of room to deliver food. I also like the radio and how it is easy to find. The maintenance on this car is very easy even I can do what needs to be done my radio stations and change the time on the clock. The air conditioner features are also easy to maneuver.
2007 Saturn ION2: Three times, I have gotten into my car, turned the key, and nothing...no noise, nothing... Waited an hour, and then it was fine. Now, I parked my car, went to turn off the car, but the key wouldnt budge, and the car would not shut off. Followed the manual to put the car in parked, open a little compartment under the steering wheel, push in a plunger, and hold it to the drivers door and remove the key...IT DIDNT WORK! Had to pull the due and disconnect the battery to turn the car off, but the key is still stuck in the ignition. Even if you turn the key too far, there is no noise. I think it is electrical too...I read somewhere that someones car just shut off while driving...I AM PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT FROM THIS AND SUE GM, SINCE SATURN IS OUT OF BUSINESS! IS THAT WHAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE BEFORE THIS GETS RECALLED!!!
I had the ignition replaced in May, 2011. Now that the weather is getting cold, my car has refused to start twice. This is more of a safety issue than not being able to get the key out of the ignition. When is the government going to step in? I havent taken it to the dealership, but I am expecting a grand run-around while they try to bully me into paying for something theyve known is a problem.
I was glad to see I was not the only person with this problem. My car is a 2006 Saturn Ion with 46,000 miles on it. Sometimes when you shut the car off, the key will not come out of the ignition switch. I replaced the ignition switch and it still does it. Thats why my other car is a Toyota!

Recently purchased a 2001 Saturn SC2. The ignition locked in the off position and there no way I could get it to turn. I broke one key and bent a spare. Finally had to get it towed and its at a local repair shop now. I have read many complaints on this issue, but apparently GM has never issued a recall. I used to be a big GM fan, but not now.
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion 2, original owner. I will say I did not have any major issues with my car until I got home, tried to turn off my car when the ignition would not turn leaving the car running. After several attempts, the key just came out with the ignition still running. I realized nothing would work, so I stalled the car, unplugged the battery and had it towed to a Saturn dealership. They supposedly replaced my ignition for $480 plus $140 for the tow. They said its been a common problem with this year, make, model and mileage but they havent recalled it yet. I truly hope that if enough people complain about it, they will issue the recall and we can all get reimbursed for our hard-earned money.
I bought my Ion with cash a year ago. The first time I drove it through the canyon, I tried using the cruise control. It took several attempts but eventually it set. Unfortunately hitting the brake or engaging the clutch did not disengage the cruise control. Turning it off also did nothing. The best I could do is put it in neutral and let the RPSMs scream until eventually the cruise control disengaged. After this, several times while driving in town, in the city, with the cruise control button switched off, my car would engage the cruise control and begin to accelerate and I was unable to disengage it again but managed to avoid any accidents. I finally disconnected the battery to erase the memory and clear out any previous cruise control settings. Still cannot find anyone that can solve this mystery. My current problem is this: I was on the freeway when my car began to squeal much like the sound of a belt. The motor ran ok and I actually made it home and the car cut out in the driveway and will not start. I turned the key and it makes a very bizarre sound I have never heard before. Anyone w/ anything?
I am furious to find out that GM knew all along about the ignition problems with some of their cars. We bought our daughter a 2003 Saturn Ion in 2004. In less than 2 years the problems with the ignition started. It was a nightmare! She lived 800 miles away and dealt with the car not starting constantly. Sometimes the car would start then shut off and not start again for 15 or 20 mins or longer. The car died on the interstate!!! She could have gotten hit by another car! She had to call the police and they pushed her off the road onto a side road and she waited for AAA to come and haul her car over 100 miles back to her house. This all happened at night. She took the car to mechanic after mechanic to dealership after dealership trying to figure out what the fix was. Finally, a friends boyfriend did some research on the web and saw all the complaints and figured out to take the fob off. That did help but she still had problems with battery needing charged, the battery was being run down even though the car was off. A lot of electric issues. When I read about all the horrible accidents it makes me sick to think these families should not have had to suffer these losses and what could have happened to my daughter. Shameful.
Ive had to replace my ignition 4 times in the past 4 years. The key gets stuck and I either cant turn the car off or I cant turn it on. The mechanic who replaced it the last time indicated that the ignition was a really bad part and that he was certain it would fail again. When I took it to the dealership after the recall, the foreman indicated that my problem was not the same problem indicated in the recall. He said, the recall problem is a safety issue and mine was not. I am NOT comfortable driving around in this car knowing what has happened to some.
My 2003 Saturn Ion has developed the same ignition lock, and not starting problems, in the last 6 months.
Key was stuck, it wont turn to full off. I cant get power to fully turn it off.
My car has low miles on it and transmission went out no warning. A few times the car rolls with it being in park. Hubby check transmission fluid with car running. It jumps the park mode stats rolling towards my hubby. I press break before it ran over him. Towed car to the auto care Lee Myles in Parkersburg, WV. I called GM and told the transmission not shifting, doesnt go to drive. Now Lee Myles has had car 3 weeks, cant say whats wrong but stated could fix car for around 2000 dollars. Still wont diagnose it for itemize cost and states now going to cost 3700 dollars to fix it.. What to do? What made my car mess up? Im disabled, dont go very many places, had car 2 years now. Really like my car but being pulled so many ways between General Motors not wanting to help and Lee Myles helping themselves to my car and money. PLEASE HELP. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
I have had the BEST luck with my 2008 Saturn VUE XE. Bought it brand new December 2008. Have not had one problem EVER. I do however take very good care of her - I do think that is key. Oil change every 3500, recommended owner guide maintenance. 120,000 and going strong.
I’ve been waiting for an ECM computer for my 2001 Saturn lw300 for almost a year. My car has been in for repair waiting on this part since last February 2011. I was told that GM has to have an order for 50 before they would manufacture them. I can’t get a response from GM. I’ve been told that you have to have a new one because it has to be programmed for my VIN number. It’s too good of a car to just let it go. What should I do? Thank you.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion 3. The key wont release from the ignition when I shut the motor off. I have to sit in the car and keep trying to remove it, or wait a few minutes until I hear a thud in the column before it will release. I had a 1993 Saturn, and it had the same key release problem. Saturn should have found a remedy or upgrade to this problem by now.
Timing chain tensioner failure on my Saturn 2000 LS1. The timing chain tensioner failed and caused the timing chain to break. This happened at 94,200 miles on the odometer. The date was Nov. 23, 2011. The car was inoperable.
We have nothing but problems with our 2003 Saturn Vue. We did buy it used. We have had to replace both catalytic converters to the tune of $2400 (parts only) back in 2010. We have had to replace the oxygen sensors every 2 years. Just this past April, when the check engine light came on and once again to the mechanic, we had to shell out another $800 to replace the front catalytic converter (this was discounted due to having just replaced it 2 years ago; otherwise, it would have been doubled). Now, after replacing the gas cap for a third time because it loosens up and the engine light is still on, we have had a certified GM mechanic do all the work and he checks every time to make sure that there has not been a better fix. I am amazed, after reading all the issues that GM has not stepped up and try to restore consumers faith in their ability to fix cars, that nothing has been done. Currently, looking for a new car but I can tell you it will not be through GM since they have yet to fix the issues and their record on Saturns is proving that they are more concerned with selling more of their cars instead of fixing the current ones out there.
I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook I bought used through a reputable dealer. Which included the extended warranty. The transmission went out 1000 miles over the warranty mileage... That was in August! Now it is January and the transmission jumped out of gear last night on the way home. And the transmission light came on AGAIN!!!! Seems to be a pattern here... great style... shotty design... a real LEMON!
I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.
I have a 2003 Saturn Vue. The last couple of years Ive had the same issue with my key. First it would just come out with the car on. Then periodically stick and not come out. I was just searching a website to find out where to get another key and found all these complaints. The key actually is shaved down and the teeth are almost smooth, so I know its grinding on something. I just figured with Saturn out of business, I have no recourse. Now to hear the expense it will cost is crazy. Is there anything can I do?
I bought a Saturn Outlook in 2011 and it has been one of the best SUVs that I have had. It is roomy and has a 3rd row seat. I get many compliments from my passengers on smooth ride. It is driver friendly and has excellent gas mileage driving long distance and locally! I love it.
I have a 2001 Saturn SL1 with about 140 K miles. I have always owned Saturns since they first came out. We presently have a 2006 and 2007 Ion as well. All these cars were purchased NEW!! They were all serviced at the scheduled maintenance time. All of a sudden I had a major problem with the transmission of the 2001 car. It would just drop or slip in all gears, Including reverse. Since two years ago I paid 375 dollars to have the 2006 ignition problem fixed and then a few months later the same amount to pay for the 2007 Ion to have that ignition problem fixed (this was before the big GM recall even though I called often to see if there was a recall on that problem and told NO). I am now skeptical when I’m told there is no problem or recall with the transmissions either. I think someone at GM needs to look at all these transmission problems and correct them. Most people cannot afford to pay $3000 to fix a problem that serious.
I had my ignition switch repaired on my Saturn Ion 2, 3 times already and continue to have problems with key getting stuck in the ignition. Spoke to Cruz Chevrolet today and he is telling me he thinks it is the automatic shifter causing the problem. My warranty just ran out in July 2014 and I told the dealership about this problem a few years ago as well as in June 2014 and July 2014. I am so frustrated. Have to bring car to dealership in 2 days.
Yesterday, our 2001 Saturn L series just stopped running in the middle of traffic. It was towed to our mechanic only to find out today that the timing chain had broken and damaged the engine. He told us it was a common problem with Saturns. We never received an apparent recall in 2008 so does anyone know if GM will repair this problem for free or are we on our own?
I purchased my Saturn Outlook as a demo in July of 2007 with about 13,000 miles. My transmission failed at only 48,000 miles and was rebuilt since I was still under warranty. Now less than 20,000 miles and 2 years later, I am having the same gear change, engine light, stalling and jerking problems that I experienced at 48,000 miles. Now no longer under warranty, I am paying all kinds of service and labor fees when GM is well aware of the faulty clutch wave plate destroying transmissions in its vehicles. They need a recall on this product as it is a safety issue for Americans all across this country. Shame on GM for sweeping this issue under the rug and giving American products a bad name. It will come back to bite them in the end!
2006 Saturn Ion, Manual transmission - Slow engine light came on with the regular engine light just after the car passed the 80,000 mile mark. It had been running perfectly, a/c blowing beautifully. Now best mechanic in town cant figure out what is wrong. Sensors are running numbers that dont jive. Had already had the recall work done at the dealer. Was it a bad tank of gas? Its not the catalytic converter. Loved this car, but its scary reading about all of the problems that folks have and now my car maybe cant even be fixed. What is GM going to do with its lemons?
Ive had this car now for about 9 mos. Its been a pretty good car until the last 2 weeks. The a/c was the 1st to go out (when I 1st got it). I had everything replaced, then about 2 mos. later, the a/c went out again. So, 2 weeks ago, the stereo stopped playing, it says to check the wiring. In the past week, all these new things started. I now smell gas fumes, when we hit the door locks, the headlights go out and back on. Last night, I put the car in reverse, and the lights went out and back on. Sometimes, when I put it in reverse, the gas gauge drops from 1/2 tank to empty. Other times, after refueling, I leave the pump with the empty gas light on. I make sure the gas cap is on tight before I leave the station. Two days now, the security light comes on, so today, I replaced the battery in the wireless remote, and stopped @ Autozone to have the cars battery checked & it is fine. A few months ago, I was having a problem with the car stalling out when I backed up, but after hearing about the ignition switch recall & GM, I tried something that works. I took the key off my keyring. There are no other keys on it, the added weight of a few other keys, was messing with the ignition switch. Im pretty sure my problem is with some loose wiring, I read that with the Saturn, the a/c condenser hose pops off, and read theres no hope for the gas smell. I just pray the car doesnt go up in flames. Oh, and have had a few problems with the tail lights too. And a few weeks ago, I couldnt get the trunk lock to catch after checking the problem with the brake/tall-light problem. I didnt know until today that Saturn is a GM product, cause I promise you had I known, I would never have bought it. Ford held their own, GM bailed out.
Saturn Ion is a compact car with less miles than the others and it was cheaper than the other models I was looking at and its good on gas and the air conditioner works great for the money I paid for it. It has new tires and a big trunk which will help me a lot when buying for the grandkids. Good car for $600. It looks good and it drives like a new car and I like the color of the car. But needs an oil pump and windshield wipers. The cluster is in the middle of the dash which is strange and hard to get used to. Dislike the shape of the car, the driver side window will not let down and the car can only be unlocked from the passenger side.
I purchase a 2002 Saturn Vue for my daughter in college. I have been a faithful Saturn owner without any issues prior. Since purchase, nothing but electrical problems - including a near crash on the freeway when the car abruptly slowed down to 10 mph. A recall is needed before someone is killed. Weve invested $2,000 to try and fix a ghost problem.
Unfortunately, I have purchased a 2003 Saturn Ion when they were brand new. It felt wrong from the beginning and it has only proven my instincts correct. Within one year, the steering has failed. It will cost $1,500+ to fix this problem. The windows do not roll up or down. The ignition has locked, another fix that has cost me $600. The wiper transmission has been replaced with the upgraded metal wiper transmission. The front airbags have failed. The gas gauge works when it feels like it. This car is better off as scrap. This car is crap! Saturn is one of the cheapest autos in history! Do not buy this vehicle or you will regret it just as I do every time I look at it. It makes my stomach turn to know that the makers of this cheap car were able to get away with selling a car to the public knowing that it is a death trap!
Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. It cost me $85.00 for less than a 1/5 of a mile because the transmission went out again; twice in 170,000 miles.
I am the only owner. I bought my SUV new. I only have 56,000 miles and I now need a new transmission which will cost $3,000. I maintain my vehicle with a local mechanic/receive my car maintenance there. Oil changes every 3,000 miles. The mechanic states he is surprised I need this new transmission at such low miles. I got a second opinion at a specialty transmission service garage and reverse and 1st and 2nd gears are completely damaged as my mechanic diagnosed. I have been instructed not to drive it. I have liked my Saturn but now I am upset.
My 2009 Saturn Vue had been progressively difficult to steer and also made a grinding sound when turning to the right. This went on for several months. It was taken to the dealership for this, but no repairs were made b/c the tech did not see/hear the issue. A few months later, the Vue lost control and went into a skid. Diagnostics at the dealer showed that there was a steering gear leaking fluid and that the steering pump needed replacement. Also, the steering sensor was not programmed correctly. This sounds very much like the recall on 2008-2009 Saturn Vues, however mine is not in that batch. Please, if anyone else is experiencing this sort of issue with your 2009 Vue, please file a complaint on www.safercar.gov. Something needs to be done about this defect! Your voice/experience will make a difference in the safety of other drivers.
I have a 2006 Saturn ION with only 60K miles and it has been in the shop for manufacturer defects 3 times already. I paid 200 for the ignition lock in May since the key will get stuck and I could not turn car off. I am a single parent with kids and it was scary when your car is stuck. I also paid $300 for a new camshaft actuator and selenoid. Now in December another valve malfunctioned and I called customer service and they gave me the run-around. I dealt with a district specialist named Vince and one named Drew and they both laughed at me and told me I am out of warranty since it’s past the 5 year mark and there is nothing they can do even though the dealer told them on the phone that it’s a manufacturer defect. I was told by Drew from Saturn, “Sorry, these things happen…” They had promised to give me at least a 10% discount and the dealership told me that they had no documentation. They never returned my calls. I have paid over $1000 out of my pocket for manufacturer defects and this car only has 60k. It keeps failing—valve, keys, fuel pump. Help.
I cant understand why GM will not admit that there is a problem with ignition cylinder in Saturn cars. My mom has a 2003 Saturn Ion, that will not release the key. It is stuck in the ACC position. Sometimes, if you sit and wait 15 min., it will click and release. We had car to the dealer when it was under warranty but they could find nothing wrong. I realize that they receive anywhere from $500 up to repair this and they are in desperate need of money. No one in my family will ever have another GM product. Something should be done about this.
I bought my 2003 Saturn L200 in July of 2009 with only 31,000 miles on it. It was great for two years, until the Summer of 2011 when the odometer started spinning out of control. It added 50,000+ miles on it in a short time. It costs $1400 to fix the BCM (body control module) and took a month to fix. The dealer had to backorder the part. Now, my fuel pump has died repeatedly, leaving me stranded multiple times. The fuel pump at OReilly Auto Parts costs $350 and this was the cheapest price by far. Its currently at the mechanic for the third time and he is stumped. After the car died the second time, we figured we got a bad fuel pump. But somehow it is not getting power to the fuel pump. I was promised the GM would continue to uphold Saturns level of service. All Ive seen are expensive parts and time-consuming repairs. I will never buy a GM product again.
We have had 2 Saturn 2006 Ion ignition problems - they get stuck and we were unable to shut down the car. Now my 2008 Vue is having ignition problems where it is randomly getting stuck. The dealership service recommended that I wait until it completely breaks down. Unfortunately, all of our cars are no longer in warranty so it is out of pocket expense for us.
For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problems with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I purchased my vehicle brand-new in 2006. I loved the car. But in 2010, my vehicle would not shut off. I took the vehicle to a crappy GM dealer that took 3 months to fix the problem. I paid $300 to get the ignition chamber switched out. In 2011, I had another problem. I couldnt take the key out of the ignition. Luckily, since it was within one year, they fixed the problem under parts warranty. Now, 4/11/2012, I couldnt turn my vehicle off again and was late to work trying to remove the key. I had to leave the car running, and my husband drove to my job, got in the car, drove it home, and had to remove wiring to shut it off. I called Saturn Customer Care and have to take the vehicle into the nearest dealership. I have to pay for the diagnostic, and so on and so forth. I am upset. This is ridiculous. Once this problem is fixed, I am trading in my vehicle; someone else can deal with this problem. I want to know if I can sue. I will even settle for them just buying the car back from me, so I can buy a new car. I just cant deal with the headaches, time, and money anymore. Anyone with these issues, I suggest calling Saturn Customer Care at 1-800-553-6000. You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket.
I bought a 2007 Saturn Ion Red Line edition car from Capital Auto Mall, on the Ford side of the building. Moments after driving the car off the dealership lot, the engine broke down resulting in a new engine being required. From that moment on there was nothing but problems with the company and very poor customer service - being ignored, phone calls not returned, questions not being answered etc.Capital did agree to replace the engine in the car. I had requested my warranty that I paid almost $3000 for to cover the repairs, and Capital refused my request and insisted they cover all the costs of the new engine, because they didnt want to blemish my warranty. They wanted to replace the engine with a used engine, with higher mileage than the original. The car only has 92,000 km. and the engine had 120,000 km. Thats at least 2 years of driving lost on that engine. I told Capital, No, I do not want that engine in my car, and I requested again that my warranty cover the cost of a new engine and, yet again, they refused, went ahead and installed the used engine anyways in their quick lane service.After that moment, I told them that I no longer want the car (this was just days after signing the papers) and I asked if they would just return the car and drop the loan. All they said was, No, you are committed to the loan. So I said, Okay, put me into a different car. They said, Sure, no problem. I took all my financing papers, everything I got for the car. Next day, they called me stating they could not get me into a different car, and that I was stuck with the Saturn and they did not return my paperwork. I asked several times to get my paperwork back and they keep saying, Yeah, yeah, we will find it and get it back to you. Still, no paperwork has been returned.The car sat outside their shop for 3 weeks before they even thought about installing this used engine. I called 2-4 times a week, and every time I talked to them, it was, Yeah, the car is coming into the shop tomorrow, but yet it never did, until I got real mad and personally went in there and complained. Finally, the car went in the shop.A couple of days went by with no word on the car, so I called probably 5-6 times and didnt get a phone call back. Finally, on the last try, someone answered the phone, and said they couldnt figure out what their tech did wrong installing the engine. It ran horrible; they checked the engine light. It was running lean. A couple more days went by. They asked me to come in to talk about the car, so I went in, and they explained to me how the warranty I paid $3000 for was voided by them due to not doing a mechanical inspection prior to selling the car, and that they would have to refund the $3000, and made me sign a paper stating this would happen. After signing, they gave me the keys and told me to have a nice day.At this point, the car was not back to its original condition. It had a slight exhaust leak under the hood; the check engine light was still on. Driving down the road, the whole front end of the car knocked and banged. I asked Capital to pull the car in the shop and check the subframe bolts but they refused and told me, Thats not going to happen. So I then took it to my own work, lifted the car up with a jack and checked the bolts myself. All the subframe bolts were loose as well as both front ball joint bolts, and every motor mount bolt was loose. The next day, I called Capital and asked them if it was a journey man tech that worked on my car. They had said yes, so I asked if I could see his papers and they replied, No. They had that subframe let go on the highway. It could have killed me and my brand new baby that was just born on January 27th, 2013, who I have in my car almost daily.I had given up on Capital and fixed the car myself. I fixed the check engine light, running issue exhaust leak, and tightened all those bolts. Two weeks later, I noticed blue smoke from the tail pipe. I contacted Capital about the warranty on the engine, and they said it would cover any and all repairs for 101 days as per SGI Auto Salvage warranty (engine was supplied by SGI Salvage). Basically every day I contacted Capital about the second replacement engine. They kept telling me they were looking for a new engine for about a week and half. Finally, they gave up looking for an engine told me that SGI themselves wanted to see what was wrong with the engine, and that if it was non-repairable, they would refund me the cost of the engine, and Capital stated they would find a different engine on their own or give me to money to locate one myself. I agreed to this, so I took the car to SGI.The next day, SGI contacted me telling me that there was no warranty on the engine due to it being heavily modified and sent me on my way. I then went right down to Capital Auto Mall, spoke to the quick lane manager and he told me basically that if SGI wont cover the engine, it was not their problem and there was nothing they could or would do for me. How is this fair to me? I didnt mod the car ... how the car sits is how it was bought from Capital. They reinstalled these parts without telling me about them. So now, basically, I was paying $15,000 for a piece of steel in my backyard that doesnt run or move and I have to pay for any and all repairs.This is why I bought that warranty for $3000 - to prevent this. It is not my fault they didnt do their job, nor have they even paid that $3000 back to me. I also paid for a propack auto service which cost close to $1000, and that service has yet to be performed. I have asked at least 15 times to get it done, and they keep telling me, Okay, okay, I will book it in and call you back. They never do call back. I even asked for a refund on the service seeing as they wont do it and got told no, that it wouldnt happen, like really!? I paid for it.It has been a complete gong show mess; I do not want this car anymore. It has been nothing but a headache and now they just straight up dont care. They wont help, wont cover any of their own work. Its complete BS. What can I do about this? Im sure I can supply more details, but for now these are the basics.
Bad Engine-Repair numerous times: I had my car repaired too many times for the life of the car from 2008. I need another car now. I need a lawyer to view the car repair lists from 3 months of purchase to current. Its awful and crazy. The dealer told me to walk away! I cant sell it; the check engine light is on and I still owe over $10,000. Where can I get a lawyer? My credit would be damaged. What can I do?
The timing chain broke and caused the valves to bend which means the car needs a new engine. It looks like this is a recurring problem with Vues. Our car has 105,00 miles on it. It seems to me that the company needs to make some kind of offer to remedy this issue since it happens so frequently on these products. In talking with many mechanics, this is the only car that has this problem.
I returned home and the key wouldnt turn off. It was locked in the on position, still running. The temperature outside is over 100 and my husband even had to take the steering column apart just to shut the engine off. So now, you basically have to hot wire the car to start it and disconnect wire to turn it off. I can see that Im not the only one out here with the same problem - mine is a Saturn Ion 2005 with 45,000 miles. We need a recall! Obviously, Saturn has a real problem here. Look at the post and this is just from the people that inquired. Help ** if you know what I should do. I dont have the money to make the repair!
My wife has a 05 Saturn Vue, the engine blew up whilst driving home from work. No check engine light, no warning at all. The car lost power steering but luckily no accident. I called GM customer service and told them what happened and they said car needed to go to a dealer to be looked at... They arranged for it to be taken to local dealer. The dealer said engine was gone. I called GM back and asked them what they were planning to do and was told they would do nothing again. I explained that it could have killed my wife and that surely there should have been a warning of some description...I was passed around from person to person sitting on hold for 37 mins to speak to a supervisor. When he got on the phone he muttered something and transferred me again. So I called the headquarters in Detroit and got pretty much the same response. I now have a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. I even had to fight them to get my car towed back to my house (there was more bad cust service but too much to mention). So this bears as much as a warning to all Saturn drivers. BE CAREFUL, THEY BLOW UP WITHOUT WARNING AND GM DONT CARE!!!!!
This is the second time my ignition switch has locked up. I own a 2007 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe Manual and have almost paid off the darn thing. I have friends who can replace it just for cost of parts and a case of beer but this is ridiculous. Class action suit would be great for all the time and money spent on one part that is obviously faulty. Im willing to do anything to get Saturn/GM to become responsible for their faulty ignition scheme.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion that has a recall for fuel odor and fuel dripping from the tank due to hole in the line. I had this repaired at a GM dealer and then found out about a recall. I called to get reimbursed for my expense and was told my Saturn did not have the recall on it. I do not understand how it would not have been recalled when I am having the same problem, which was described in the recall. The person at the service center could do no more than read from a paper. He was of very little help and did nothing but piss me off. If the Ion has a problem, it should be taken care of.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion. I have had the same problem with my car for over a year. I have not brought it in because I do not have the money to get it fixed then have the problem happened again. I am fed up with this car. I will be trying to call the dealership. There needs to be a recall on this problem!Also just recently I have had problems with it shutting off. It did it twice to me in 1 day-- when I coasted to a safe spot, I put it in park, shut it off and it wouldnt start for at least 5 minutes. I am not sure what is going on. Almost a year ago, the throttle body on my 2005 Saturn Ion became gummed up and I had to take it in for service. The throttle body was not a major fix but once my car was at the shop, it turns out a totally unrelated issue occurred as the ignition switch broke or the shop mechanic broke it and that needed to be replace before they were able to determine that the throttle body was only gummed up, a $50 fix but the ignition switch was $200 plus! And guess what is now acting up? I cant get into the car and turn the ignition switch on the first turn 100% of the time. Mind you, there has been only one key on the key ring since the change last year, as to make sure there was no added stress on the ignition switch. I am going to have to take the car in again for the ignition switch because the problem is getting worse and worse. It seems only a matter of time before I wont be able to turn the ignition switch to start my car. There definitely seems to be a flaw in the ignition switch on the 2005 Saturn Ion. When will there be a recall to correct this and what do we do in the mean time? Keep paying $200 plus?
Currently, my 2004 Saturn ION 3 has 90K miles. I have made two previous repairs totaling $2500 to repair the timing chain and timing chain tension assembly, which has failed again. GM offers no help. Investigation reveals that this is a widespread problem.
I have a 2006 Saturn Ion, which up until the past 6 months Ive enjoyed owning. It refuses to start about once every 20th (or so) attempt. When it finally does start, I cant figure out why since I hadnt done anything different than I had done previously at least a few times. Unreliable! Too bad, I really enjoyed this ride.
My 2005 Saturn Ion wont start. There is no problem with my car. It has new battery, starter, alternator. It drove just fine the night before. It snowed then in the morning it wont start. The engine lights come on and the radio and inside light but the engine wont click or make a sound of any kind. Its just not right for them to make cars with such horrible defects. I actual have had another bad experience with this car. I came out of Walmart and opened my car and started it. Was about to drive off when I realized it wasnt my car but instead the one next to it. I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. I was also informed Saturn no longer makes cars and that complaints dont hurt GM as they dont affect them. We should start a lawsuit.
My wifes 2008 Saturn Vue has 65000 miles on it. Less than a year out of warranty and without warning, the transmission started to slip. I was told by the transmission repair shop that the transmission would need to be repaired at a cost of $3000.00. The shop said there is a snap ring in these transmissions that is a common point of failure. I would estimate this is a $20.00 part at best. Why would GM continue to put cars on the market when they know there are issues with them? It appears this issue has been know about since at least 2005 and continues to 2010 based on my internet research. I feel GM has a responsibility to current Saturn owners and should recall these vehicles and make all those that have already failed eligible for restitution. I have been a lifelong GM owner but I have to say this one may be my last. If you are thinking about buying GM, I say stay away from them.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and just spent $649 to have the ignition switch replaced. The light would constantly come on and the key would get stuck and it would lock up on me. This has been going on for about 2 years. It stopped for about a year and then about 2 weeks ago it started up again. When I took it in for repair, I had to go to the dealer. I found out this happens to most Ions. This is unacceptable. And he said he would not be surprised if I am back in 6 months. What can be done if anything? This just does not seem right, other than selling my car. But I cannot afford a new one. Please help!
Bought a 2009 Saturn Outlook last year with 64,000 miles. Beautiful car and body in really good shape. Loaded with everything you could think of. 2 weeks after having it, it would make all kinds of noise when turning and sound really ruff. Took it to a GM dealer and it was completely out of oil. They could not find any leaks or that is was burning oil. Needless to say putting oil in it was a once a month thing.Steering went out - had to pay $1900 to get that and the rack and pinion repaired. One week later we lost all power to the car driving down the mountains in Virginia. Spent $1,000 to get it towed back to Ohio to spend another $100 to put on analyser. Now they are saying we have to pay another 1500 for GM to tear it down so GM specialist can look at it since they still cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I still owe on this car and they said once they figure out whats wrong it could cost another 4 to 5 thousand to fix it. This has been the biggest headache. I cant believe we spend the money we do on cars and they dont even last 5 YEARS.
After having the car for less than a year, my key got stuck in my ignition. It took a mechanic to show me how to pull the plug on the ignition cylinder lock. Currently, I am homeless and my car is all I have. Obviously, if I cannot afford a roof over me or my childrens head, I cannot afford to have this problem fixed by anybody! I am not the only one that has experienced this problem, and I feel like suing GM for making such a stupid piece of ** plastic car! Not only is the key stuck in my ignition, but the fuel line is just hanging underneath my car. The windows wont work sometimes, and the car sounds and shifts like an old manual 4-cylinder engine! Way to go Saturn on ** up a car so bad that GM didnt even want to continue the Saturn car models!
I own a 2006 Saturn Ion with a little over 50,000 miles (purchased new). My key got stuck in the cylinder as well and the car would not stop running. I took my vehicle to a local auto shop and got the ignition lock cylinder replaced, OEM part 20869121. It was coded to accept my original key (no switch out). Total cost was $178. Time: 30 minutes of labor can take up to an 1 hour. To turn off my car when the incident occurred, I pulled four of the main switch plugs, two 30s and two 40s. They can be found under the hood. A black lid covers this area marked with a round red cap. The switches are easy to pull out and put back in. They help you avoid wearing down the battery or having to deal with it at all. I hope this helps.
Me and my girlfriend bought a 09 Saturn aura from love Chevrolet in Columbia South Carolina, it had 52,000 miles on it. First day at the lot, the car wouldnt start. They said it sat for a while, it just needed a jump. A day later we were sitting onside of the road. Within 1 month I took this car back to the lot 6 times to be fixed for different things but for a long time they wouldnt replace the battery then the tire rod then the water pump, the OnStar went out. Then right at 100,000 miles the transmission went out. After a year, it is fixed. Then as soon as we get the car back the vents for ac and heat went out. Somehow they started working again but the heat stopped working and its been out for about a year now. If we got rid of the car we would have lost out because we did a trade in, they gave us so much lie about fixing this car. We didnt know what to do but keep this hunk of junk. We owe 4000 on this car but its not worth 400. What should we do? Oh and from day one it had bad alignment, its not worth the trouble. Saturn Aura, you have to do better.
The key stuck in the ignition and I cannot turn the car off. I disconnected the battery, the car would not turn off. I called Triple A, they did not know what to do. Triple A came and disconnected the fuse, only then the car turned off. Many consumer complaints and there is no recall.
Like many hundreds of Saturn owners, our ignition has gotten stuck on the on position as well. I figured out where the fuse was to turn it off. But I will need to replace the ignition when I have the money. Its a major inconvenience and a huge safety issue. I am very disappointed that Saturn has not recalled this part.
Bought my 03 Saturn wagon 5 years ago. Engine light stays on 3 years now. Clears out with mechanic. Get it to pass inspection. Light comes back on. Horn died, trunk lock had to be replaced, eats tires and sway bars like crazy. Put new brakes every year. Everything rusted underneath. New manifold. Needed catalytic converter twice. Now I just cant put any more funds into this car. Seeking a different vehicle now. Only has 167,000 miles. I drove a 96 Subaru wagon into the ground. It had over 200,000 miles and still ran awesome. It was the body that finally gave out. Disappointed in the many needed repairs. Doesnt shift out of first without struggling either. The clock gains a minute every couple weeks.
Car overheats. Now we have oil in our water, blown head gasket? This is the second time this has happened to us and I am sick of this car. I am sick of the repairs we are constantly having to do to this car!
I purchased a 2003 Saturn Vue in 2009. Regretfully, I did not do my homework before purchasing. The transmission went out along with the transfer case. I paid $4976.23 for a new tranny and a rebuilt transfer case. The car has lost significant MPGs and will not shift correctly since the new install. It has greatly reduced power at take-off and there is screeching/clunking noise when turning left. GM dealership told me I need a new front differential now, a cost of $5,400. This car is a disgrace. I am still making payments on it. I have paid more in repairs then I have on my monthly payments. Is there any advice on reimbursement for all these expense? Do I have recourse?
I purchased a 2007 Saturn Outlook two years ago. During this time, my car was still under full warranty. I addressed to Saturn over and over that there was something wrong with the steering wheel; it shook and clicked. They kept saying it was fine and just some air in it. I also kept saying that there was hesitation in the engine and electrical issues, all this while it was under full warranty. They are now fixing the transmission and oil leak for the second time and also, the air bag sensor doesnt work and had not for over a year and GM is saying that they will not fix that or the broken steering column even though I have tried to have it fixed for two years. I have all my documents. Now, they are saying to go pick up the car or we have to pay for the rental because they cant help us yet and probably will not pay for the steering column or air bag sensor. This car has been a lemon since I bought it and I owe a lot on it and for the past week, I have been trying to get GM to fix those two items.
I purchased a 2001 Saturn L series new in 2001. After only 5 years and 75,000 miles, the transmission needed to be replaced. Maybe Im one of the lucky ones (as evidenced in this thread. ) One re-built transmission later, Im back in for yet another re-built transmission. I guess I should consider myself lucky. I got as much use out of the rebuilt, as I did the original.Third times a charm, right? What is it about these transmissions? I should have known better than to have purchased another Saturn, considering the fact there were problems with my first one in 1995 (after only a couple of months). What was I thinking, right? Ever think some of these issues has anything to do with the fact that Saturn is no longer around?
In the last four years, Ive had my ignition replaced three times. Saturn designed a faulty ignition and as soon as a service department repairs it, the problems start up (the same day). The key gets stuck in the ignition, the car wont start, or the car wont turn off. The problem cant be fixed because they keep using faulty parts.
I had heard in the original Saturn series of bad engines, but I had acquired a 2005 which is a later series. I had a wait and see attitude about it, it reached 142,000 miles before the transmission slipped. The mechanics had told me that it would cost about $600 just to open it up and assess the problem...not including any repairs. At that point it would have cost nearly what the car was worth at that point. Before that there were few repair problems.
2006 Saturn Ion got to work and could not shut my car off. I work at a jail so I could not go in and go on the internet to find the closest Saturn dealer, which I find out later is an hour away in Stockton. I took it to the first auto repair I found and it cost almost $700.00 to get it fixed. I am submitting my bill to Saturn, with a formal complaint to get this reimbursed. I see lots and lots of this happening and it should be a recall.
Its the same for me. I own a 2006 Saturn Ion where the ignition locked, and I couldnt stop my car. The only way to stop it was to stall it. It was 11 pm. No garage is open at that time. I made a complaint to GM. They called me and said to go to a dealer to see if its not related to the power steering because they have a recall on that and of course at my own expense. I already know that its not so its going to cost me over $100 just to confirm that sorry, its not related to that. They told me to call us back if its not and well see if we can help you. Im a single mom, I dont have $600 to get my car fixed because after reading all the reviews, it seem to be a very expensive repair. So please go on GM/Saturn and make a complaint. Maybe they will make recalls about it if everyone makes them aware of the problems because at first I called a few dealers and they all seem to be very surprised at this problem. No one has ever heard about this kind of problem.
We finally got our car in for the ignition switch recall and now my key is stuck in the ignition and car is dead. I have had more problems since it was replaced than I had before.
The ignition problem is continuing with more problems than GM knows. There should be a recall because it is an ongoing problem with the 07 Ions. I just paid $400 for the repairs on my 07 for the ignition replacement and GM should be footing the bill. It is happening all too often and most people will not report it.
Same as all of the rest. Key will not come out of the ignition. I had to stall the car to kill the engine and unplug a harness to kill elec. I would love to talk to a lawyer if they dont take care of this issue with a recall. I have not taken it in yet. I will not pay for a problem they made. I have removed the plastic under the steering wheel; only 1/2 would come off due to my key being stuck in the ignition. I unhooked the green harness this way. I can still use the car. I risk it being stolen with the key stuck in the ignition, but that would be a gift from God.
2003 Vue oil filter cover/holder - The original failed to seal well. Two replacements have failed as the overpressure spring broke out of the housing causing the engine to knock and crush the filter. Two in a row - must be defective. Please respond.
I am having the same issue as everyone else here as far as the ignition not shutting off on my 2006 Saturn Ion. Thankfully (I guess), I have a manual transmission and was able to turn off the car by popping the clutch. I called GM and they were uncooperative. They would not tell me if the issue was being looked into by them. So, I called Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and filed a complaint. The number is 1-888-327-4236 (Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 8:00pm Eastern). It literally took me under five minutes. Its the only way that anyone will take any notice of this sort of thing. I suggest you call and complain as well.
I financed a used car (2009 Saturn Vue) on the evening of 2/22/13. On 2/23/13 early afternoon, as I was driving with family members, the car caught on fire. A young lady pulled up next to me and told me that I had fire falling from underneath my car. We immediately pulled over, jumped out, and called 911. The firemen came, put the fire out and did an investigation for their report. They said it looked electrical, but couldnt say for sure. I had the car towed back to the dealer. They were closed on that Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to talk to someone. They do not want to take accountability. They stated that they had to treat this as a new car sale and I had to file an insurance claim. I told them that I hadnt even had the car 24 hours, that I want my downpayment back and the contract cancelled so that I can go and get another car elsewhere. An inspector went out (from my insurance company) and also said it looked electrical, but he could not say that that was the definite cause of the fire. The dealership wants me to go through with the claim. They offered to pay my insurance deductible, but thats it. The sales manager went on and on about how the Saturn Vue was the best used car that they had on the lot and how superior their service inspections are, etc. That is all the more reason for me to be concerned. Them offering to pay a $500 deductible does nothing for my insurance going up, my inability to be able to trade that car in down the line since it had a fire. And since the root cause of the problem could not be found, there is nothing to keep it from happening again. I want my down payment ($1500) back and I want to go elsewhere and get another vehicle as soon as possible. I am currently without a car. I spoke with the salesperson and the sales manager. I was told that the general manager would call me and he did not, nor did the owner. I should not be held accountable for their car catching on fire in less than 24 hours. I drove home from the dealership Friday night, to my cousins funeral on Saturday morning and the car caught on fire while I was driving in the funeral procession early Saturday afternoon.
I have 07 Ion with 30000 miles. Also, I am a mechanic for last five years. I had the ignition lock problem last night when I got home. It seems to be a recurring problem and needs to be addressed by GM. This is a costly problem for most and could result in a bigger issue such as theft. Do not hesitate to call your local dealership and raise hell!
When I got home in my 2007 Saturn Ion, I couldnt turn the ignition off. I had to pull the ignition fuse to turn the engine off and disconnect the battery cable. After browsing the Internet, this seems to be a common problem which Saturn has not addressed.
Does anyone else have issues with their car turning on in cold weather? I say it happens when it is cold because it happens more frequently in the winter! Ive asked and taken it to get it checked and no one can tell me what the issue is! It is so frustrating because I have called the dealership and get no answers from them either! I cannot afford to lose the car but no one wants to buy it so I can buy a different one. It makes life so difficult when I have to go to work or do what I need to do. I hate that this car. It has been so unreliable for the past 3 years!
I purchased a 2007 Aura, and was told it was recently serviced after two weeks. I was told that the struts were shot in it, and its in need of new tires. I also had to change the brakes right away. The total cost would exceed $1,000.00. I was told by the dealership that the car was in great condition, nothing wrong with it. And the warning light that was on was an indication of low tire pressure. That light stayed on even after air was put into the tires.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion 3 that I bought new. It has been a great car. In April of 2011, I went to start my car and it would not start. I turned it off and tried to take the key out of the ignition and it would not move. It was stuck in the ignition and I could not get it to do anything. On January 4, 2012, I tried to start my car and it would not start.On the first incident, I had it towed to Firestone who has done all the work on my Saturn 2005 Ion 3 since the warranty expired. The steering wheel column had to be removed to get the key out of the ignition and the battery was replaced. On the second incident, I had it towed again to Firestone. The mechanic was able to start it. He began to research problems with Saturns and found the ignition problem. He advised me to take it to Saturn for an ignition replacement.
Saturn 2005 Ion, from neutral, when shifting to drive it engages hard. Also, coolant light on dash comes on after car is idling.
They said it was the key; the tumblers were bad, and they re-keyed it. The Saturn still locks up, and cannot get the key out. Another problem is it would not steer the other day. I waited for a while then it steered just fine, and drove home. How do we get a recall on this issue? You buy a car and pay a lot of money, and then it has no reliability. I am concerned about going anywhere using a car that will just get me stranded.
For this past year, I have been battling with my 2004 Ion. First, it started with having a hard time starting in colder mornings. Then it took longer and longer to get it going. Finally, I took it in and spent $1,000 for a new timing belt and it was fine for a short while. I took it in again and spent another grand on a new ignition. Within 48 hours of that service, my key has gotten stuck in the ignition and would not allow the car to be turned off. After reading about all these other people suffering for something that is not our fault is complete **. This has convinced me to not ever buy a GM product again. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying an American product to support jobs but this is horrible.
I recently purchased a 2007 Saturn Aura XE with roughly 108,000 miles on it. The car drove like a dream for a little over a month. Now its the beginning of April and I was on my way to work this morning and suddenly, my car started jerking. So at a traffic light, I put the car in neutral then back in drive and it gave a hard jerk. Mind you this was at 7:20am. So once I got to work, I called the dealer where I got the car from. At about 11:30am I was en route to take the car to the dealer and noticed it wasnt doing it anymore and nor did it do it on the way home this evening, so well see! Hopefully that was an isolated incident but will keep you posted!
I just got a 5 speed and you wont have any of these problems. Look on Craigslist. Every Saturn Vue is being sold because the trans went out, same with Mazda. Im looking for a used Saturn. Theres no way Im buying an automatic.
I love my car (2005 Saturn ION coupe)! However, as the weather warmed up, my key would not come out of the ignition. I looked up how much it would cost to fix this and the price was outrageous. As with the other comments, why is this not a recall item? You cant get out of the car unless you have the presence of mind to hit the door lock, which may be difficult as we have been programmed to find the door unlocked when the ignition is turned off. Cheap temporary fix: under the steering column is a small diamond-shaped cover and I popped it off and pressed my thumb on a switch on the left-hand side (switch has spongy feeling - and a little greasy) and turned the key at the same time. No problem. This is temporary and will not stop the key from getting stuck again, but Id rather be inconvenienced a bit than pay out the nose for something that is well documented and should be fixed by a recall.
My daughter has a Saturn ion redline that was part of the recall. Her car started to have problems starting, so she took it to a repair shop and they ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong with the car. It happened again, so she took it elsewhere and they suggested she change the battery - so she did. The very next day she had difficulty starting the car on two occasions and on the third attempt later that night it would not start at all. Since the recall had been for the car suddenly shutting down - not starting, we didnt think about the recall until after that. She had hit a hidden bump in the road before it stopped completely. She called the former Saturn dealer and told them what happened and they said it was the recall (we had read up on the forums and knew it was by then) and to have it towed to them - which we did. They gave her a Buick to drive. Today they called and said they had replaced the part and it still wouldnt start so it had to be the cars engine. They want to run diagnostics (which we had already done). Understandably, we dont trust them. Has anyone else had this experience?
l200 - The car itself is OK minus the blower not working replaced the motor resistor switch and nothing. And the service engine like that throws the camshaft positioning sensor code that it doesnt have but did replace crankshaft pos sensor to be safe and timing chain. Headers and cold air intake have helped it immensely now getting 28 mpg in town but the body control module is bad from being side swiped and now have to start in neutral or it wont shift from park go gm and your pos vehicles instead of bailing them out we should have decided the bail out between Toyota ford and dodge and said merry Christmas.
I purchased 1995 Saturn with 63,000 miles in 2010. The car reached 75,000 miles on Dec 2011. The cylinder head cracked and needs to replaced for approximate cost of $2000.00. Research shows cars from 1992-1999 had a cylinder head defect in the design and Saturn extended the warranty to 100,000 miles but due to the age of the car, GM will not help out with repair cost. Read from other customers, no one got help. GM does not acknowledge the warranty. I just want consumers to know Saturn cars may look good, have low mileage but after 50,000 miles, trouble awaits around the corner.
Sigh...I am adding another complaint to this apparent common problem. I have a Saturn ION 2006. I have nothing but problems with it since the day I drove it off the lot. Unfortunately, I am not in right circumstances to trade it in on something else. I am a mom and a full time student, so I really need this car to last a little longer. Today, I parked my car while taking my daughter to the lake and the key got stuck in the on position. I own a manual, so once I got it home I popped the clutch to turn it off. Now, Im stuck with no car and very little in the budget to fix it. Has anyone found a solution to fixing this problem on their own? Or, by chance, has GM issued a recall?
I bought a 2008 vue 9/13/2013 and after a week I drove it from purchasing it from sellers renew the sensor lights went on. Sellers never inspected the car and put it on the lot from an auction and sold it to me! I have had it in the shop more times I have drove it. I mean it was in the shop for two months due to warranty issues and car kept breaking down. I have Took it in and told me the accel pedal sensor needed fixed that cost me 350.00, then one thing after another the control module is bad, the alternator has been replaced three times within a year, also a new transmission, evap code keeps coming up when we diagnose it, the whole computer system is shutting down and this is a Saturn. Issue should not be a consumer problem when the vehicle is dangerous to drive. Im not getting anywhere with Saturn, all these issues I have with my car and no dealer will take the car back or can even fix the car right. I pay out and another sensor issue or transmission issue. I had also experienced three times when Im driving at high speeds, the steering wheel will lock up and car will completely shut down. I have mechanic Invoices from day one and its a stack long, so more times being repaired than I drove it. But dealership says no codes come up and cant figure it and in the meantime, Im paying for a car that sits in my garage cause no one will buy it or trade it in is impossible, and literally had the car a month and all problems occurred. This should be a saturn issue to refund us and take their crappy car back and we should not be out of pocket. I have numerous bills from dealerships and this is a saturn issue, not a consumer problem when the car is dangerous to drive! Also the warranty they make you purchase with credit acceptance does not cover these issues when this is a default on behalf of saturn.
