Saturn Automobile Model 2009 Saturn Vue

2009 Saturn Vue

The 2009 Saturn Vue is a compact SUV known for its versatility, comfortable ride, and available hybrid powertrain. Here are some key features and information about the 2009 Saturn Vue:

Design: The 2009 Vue features a modern and compact SUV design. It has a well-proportioned body, a distinctive front grille, and clean lines. The Vue's design strikes a balance between functionality and style.

Engine and Performance: The Vue offers different engine options depending on the trim level:

2.4-liter four-cylinder engine: This engine produces around 169 horsepower and provides good fuel efficiency. It is typically paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

3.6-liter V6 engine: This engine generates approximately 257 horsepower, delivering stronger performance and acceleration. It is typically paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hybrid Option: The Vue is available with a hybrid powertrain known as the Vue Green Line. It combines a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver improved fuel efficiency. The hybrid system assists the engine during acceleration and deceleration, reducing fuel consumption.

Interior Features: The Vue offers a comfortable and well-equipped interior. It typically includes seating for up to five passengers, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a CD audio system. Depending on the trim level and options, additional features may include leather upholstery, heated seats, a premium audio system, and a navigation system.

Cargo Space and Versatility: The Vue provides a decent amount of cargo space for a compact SUV. It offers versatility with a flat-folding rear seat that allows for easy loading and expansion of the cargo area. Additionally, the front passenger seat can also fold flat to accommodate longer items.

Safety Features: Standard safety features on the 2009 Vue include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. The Vue is designed to prioritize safety and provide protection for both the driver and passengers.

Reliability: The 2009 Vue generally demonstrates good reliability. However, it's important to note that Saturn is no longer in production, and finding parts and service may be more challenging compared to more widely available vehicles. It's recommended to research the vehicle's maintenance history and overall condition before purchasing a used 2009 Saturn Vue.

If you're considering purchasing a 2009 Saturn Vue, I recommend checking the vehicle's specifications and options with a Saturn dealership or using online resources that provide detailed information about the particular vehicle you are interested in. Additionally, a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic can help ensure the vehicle is in good condition.

Last night after stopping at a local store, I attempted to turn my 2006 Saturn Ion off. The key would not move backwards and therefore, I could not remove it from the ignition slot. Obviously, I was unable to turn the car off. Since it was about 6:30 when this happened, I tried a couple of auto parts stores, but they found the problem strange. Finally, I drove it to a certified dealership for them to keep overnight. Today I found out that the key, cylinder, and housing would need to be replaced for $650.00! I am the only one earning money for my kids and myself. The consequence is that I do not feel I can afford a new car, so I am stuck paying for a problem that perhaps should be officially recalled. I can tell from this website that I am not the only one with the problem.

I love my car (2005 Saturn ION coupe)! However, as the weather warmed up, my key would not come out of the ignition. I looked up how much it would cost to fix this and the price was outrageous. As with the other comments, why is this not a recall item? You cant get out of the car unless you have the presence of mind to hit the door lock, which may be difficult as we have been programmed to find the door unlocked when the ignition is turned off. Cheap temporary fix: under the steering column is a small diamond-shaped cover and I popped it off and pressed my thumb on a switch on the left-hand side (switch has spongy feeling - and a little greasy) and turned the key at the same time. No problem. This is temporary and will not stop the key from getting stuck again, but Id rather be inconvenienced a bit than pay out the nose for something that is well documented and should be fixed by a recall.

I purchased a 2007 Saturn Outlook two years ago. During this time, my car was still under full warranty. I addressed to Saturn over and over that there was something wrong with the steering wheel; it shook and clicked. They kept saying it was fine and just some air in it. I also kept saying that there was hesitation in the engine and electrical issues, all this while it was under full warranty. They are now fixing the transmission and oil leak for the second time and also, the air bag sensor doesnt work and had not for over a year and GM is saying that they will not fix that or the broken steering column even though I have tried to have it fixed for two years. I have all my documents. Now, they are saying to go pick up the car or we have to pay for the rental because they cant help us yet and probably will not pay for the steering column or air bag sensor. This car has been a lemon since I bought it and I owe a lot on it and for the past week, I have been trying to get GM to fix those two items.

Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?

I cant understand why GM will not admit that there is a problem with ignition cylinder in Saturn cars. My mom has a 2003 Saturn Ion, that will not release the key. It is stuck in the ACC position. Sometimes, if you sit and wait 15 min., it will click and release. We had car to the dealer when it was under warranty but they could find nothing wrong. I realize that they receive anywhere from $500 up to repair this and they are in desperate need of money. No one in my family will ever have another GM product. Something should be done about this.

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion 2 Quad Coupe. Ive been having problems on and off for years with the ignition. It was sometimes difficult to start, but with a little jiggling of the key and the steering wheel, I always managed to start it. I wish that was the only problem. Yesterday, I drove my car to the supermarket and couldnt turn the car off. I was able to turn the engine off, but the key would not release and the keys position was stuck in the ACC position. My local mechanic told me that I needed to find a GM dealer, so I took it to the closest Buick/GMC dealer in my county. I was told that I needed a new ignition and am dreading to find out the cost tomorrow. I just found out today that there were hundreds of other Saturn owners who experienced the same problem. I wish GM would recall this part.

In January 2010, my family purchased a one owner, 2003 Saturn Vue 6 cyl. It was a great SUV until last week. That was the day the VTI transmission decided to come apart whilst I was driving on the Interstate at 70mph in rush hour traffic. Upon getting it into the old Saturn dealership, I was told by the service manager that this was a known problem, GM had an extended policy on it and I should call the above number to start a claim. I went home and looked this known problem that was not issued as a recall but rather as an internal service memo. Imagine my dismay at finding out that the previous owners had been informed of the problem, traded the Saturn in and were able to buy it all within the space of a month. It seems, according to the attorneys that filed the class action suit against GM, that the notice was to travel with the title (of course it didnt or wed not have bought the car). We were to be offered 5K in credits on a new GM car and there would be no punishment on the trade-in of the piece of junk we now owned. Because it was not recalled, Carfax, NTSB, et al. didnt warn us either.A week later, I finally got a call from GM and was told that I was outside the class, but GM would look into getting me something, no promises. The offer came through today. Theyd give us the 5K in credits toward a new GM car, but nothing else. No trade in (that 5K is the trade in) value and nothing more.

Faulty wave plate 2009 saturn vue XE - This wave plate cracked at 140,000 miles costing me around $3,000 to replace my transmission. A month later I get a letter stated that GM will be completely cover the cost up to 120,000 due to this being a faulty part. I applied for at least a partial reimbursement. Got denied over the phone. When I asked to speak with a manager I was transferred to what I believe was the exact same voice under a different name again stated they understood and could not honor my request. If you put a faulty part in a car it should be covered by the company. This car is six years old and the transmission should not fail if quality made.

My 2007 Saturn Ion recently started having trouble starting. I assumed it was because of the cold weather, then I started smelling gasoline inside and outside my car. I took in the RJ & G Auto Care in Raleigh, North Carolina and they found that I had a crack in my fuel pump on the supply side, meaning it was not something that I did wrong. It was the manufacturer. I dealt with Jerry ** (the manager) and he was very nice and helpful! He checked with Bob ** on whether or not there was a recall on fuel pumps (there were not) and if it was under warranty so it could be replaced for free (which it was). Because RJ & G had to drop my gas tank to find the problem, I was charged $174.74. It was then towed from RJ & G to Bob Murray on Capital Blvd, costing me $85.00. I feel that I should be reimbursed the $259.74 that I had to pay out of pocket for something I did not cause. It is absolutely ridiculous that a 2007 with 53, 580 miles (at time of service) had a crack in the fuel pump! I am so thankful for Jerry who saved me a few hundred dollars but the problem should have never occurred. I asked Jerry if there was anything that I could have done to cause the crack and he said absolutely not. He came to this conclusion based on where the crack was at.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and just spent $649 to have the ignition switch replaced. The light would constantly come on and the key would get stuck and it would lock up on me. This has been going on for about 2 years. It stopped for about a year and then about 2 weeks ago it started up again. When I took it in for repair, I had to go to the dealer. We bought our 2008 Saturn Outlook brand new six years ago as a means to travel on family vacations and have never had a problem with it until now. Weve maintained our Outlook by doing all the right things. On the way back from our family road trip in May, we noticed a knocking sound that seemed to go away once we made it back home. Subsequent to arriving home, we got a phone call from a GM dealer, asking us if we may want to trade in the Outlook for something else (something we had been thinking about anyway). On the way to the dealership, the knocking noise came back! The dealer indicated that the Outlook could not be traded due to a possible transmission problem. Well, we took it into the dealership later that week for diagnostic/service. It was diagnosed with reverse wave plate failure (estimated cost: $3,029); possible rear cat converter problem (est. cost $712). We later took to a transmission specialist who looked it over and determined it didnt have a transmission problem and they couldnt hear the noise. However, after putting it on the road, they noticed the noise and the shifting problem and quoted a repair cost of $3,000+. We went to pick up the truck to bring it back home and it could not shift in reverse! With the help of the service men, we had to push the truck in reverse to get off the lot only to realize that it would not go forward (in speed) more than 30 miles! The truck is dead! We do not have this kind of money laying around; and with 120 k miles on the Outlook, it just doesnt seem worth it to pay for a repaired transmission and definitely not a new one at $4,034!! This is so unfortunate; because we really enjoyed our Outlook. Now were faced with hard decisions to make, while in the meantime having to deal with the inconveniences of driving one car - a 2005 Hyundai Elantra that we also bought brand new and has never given us any serious mechanical problems. I wonder where we will purchase our next vacation SUV. Buyers beware. We feel like weve been set up to be let down. Our Outlook is in great exterior/interior condition and has never been involved in an accident. Were willing to be part of a class action suit.

Me and my girlfriend bought a 09 Saturn aura from love Chevrolet in Columbia South Carolina, it had 52,000 miles on it. First day at the lot, the car wouldnt start. They said it sat for a while, it just needed a jump. A day later we were sitting onside of the road. Within 1 month I took this car back to the lot 6 times to be fixed for different things but for a long time they wouldnt replace the battery then the tire rod then the water pump, the OnStar went out. Then right at 100,000 miles the transmission went out. After a year, it is fixed. Then as soon as we get the car back the vents for ac and heat went out. Somehow they started working again but the heat stopped working and its been out for about a year now. If we got rid of the car we would have lost out because we did a trade in, they gave us so much lie about fixing this car. We didnt know what to do but keep this hunk of junk. We owe 4000 on this car but its not worth 400. What should we do? Oh and from day one it had bad alignment, its not worth the trouble. Saturn Aura, you have to do better.

My 2000 Saturn LS now has 118,000 miles on it. 2 weeks ago it suddenly began emitting a very loud noise under the hood. It starts up immediately and drives smoothly, but when idling gets very loud. Took to mechanic. They thought maybe rocker arms had broken but they were fine. Could find no reason for the noise. They decided something must be sticking from built-up gunk so they replaced the Valve Cover Gasket, cleaned and put in some oil additive and let it run. The noise stopped, I picked the car up and it has been fine. Now 12 days later and only driven about 50 miles, it began the exact same thing, same noise, etc and it starts up immediately and drives smooth. But the noise is very loud when idling and I can hear a little bit of the noise when driving. I took it to the Mechanic this morning and left it. He did recommend a Power Steering Seal, and the output Shaft Seal has slow leak, but said it is not urgent to fix right now since I do not drive daily nor far. I see no leaks on the driveway. Any clue or suggestions on what could be causing this very loud noise? It does not overheat and oil pressure gauge indicates no problem. All fluid levels are fine and I just had an oil change and have only driven 1,000 miles since that was done. Help please!!

My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone! This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. The CVT transmission started losing fluid. No idea where the fluid was going because there was no leak. I took it to the dealership and they advised flushing transmission so we did. Now I think 6 months later after repeatedly having to add transmission fluid to a closed system that supposedly never needs transmission fluid and not to mention you have to use a special transmission fluid not the over the counter stuff, the transmission has gone completely out. Oh, and did I forget to mention the recall notice that said we didnt qualify because we had too many miles on the car. What? You put a faulty transmission in a vehicle that I purchased and you are going to tell me I have too many miles on it to qualify for the transmission to be replaced even though it was faulty to begin with? Now I am stuck with a car that doesnt move and I have to pay a loan on a car that doesnt move. I had same problem which turned fatal for some people. Electrical problems from alarm randomly going off while driving, interior lights coming on, stalling out completely while driving. Cost me a fortune to repair. Got rid of it. I have had 6 Saturns since 1990 and from a family of GM employees. In my opinion, and firsthand experience, GM mismanaged Saturn, essentially killing it either out of sheer incompetence or intentional neglect. [I mean, what company copies the same exact cars the Saturn made and advertises them but ignores the marketing for Saturn?] So what was once proudly touted as a 97% American-made car, was now in 2004, a car with parts from all over the world. Coincidence? I think not. It opened in 1990 as the site for Saturn manufacturing and continued through March 2004 as the sole manufacturing plant overseen by the Saturn subsidiary. After the United Auto Workers ratified a new contract in March 2004, the plant became part of General Motors... Wikipedia, accessed 3/13/2015. The timing chain broke and caused the valves to bend which means the car needs a new engine. It looks like this is a recurring problem with Vues. Our car has 105,00 miles on it. It seems to me that the company needs to make some kind of offer to remedy this issue since it happens so frequently on these products. In talking with many mechanics, this is the only car that has this problem.

I bought a 2006 Saturn ion. It was really torn up but I was told it ran great. The cost to repair has been costly. Since they dont make this car any longer the parts are a little harder to find. I have only just begun repairs and $2000 is just the tip of the ice cap. I still have 6 payments left and several thousands left in repairs. Drive and look before you buy.

I loved my Saturn until now. The first thing that it started doing was the oil pressure light came on saying oil pressure low, turn engine off. I pulled over and turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Message was gone. Then a couple days later the stabilitrak error message came up saying traction control off service stabilitrak. Engine speed decreasing. Couldnt go above 20 mph. Turned car off. Restarted car error message gone. Then transmission started slipping until it wouldnt go out of 2nd gear. Took the car to the shop and 4000.00 dollars later the transmission was replaced. Now one week later, the stabilitrak message came back on while driving home today and in a curve the steering wheel locked up. This car is horrible. I have never had this many problems out of a car before. Back to the shop where Im sure I will have to break the bank. Again! Saturn needs to make a recall on these cars. How many complaints about the same thing has to be posted before they actually do something about it. Never again. I will tell everyone to avoid buying a GM product.

I purchase a 2002 Saturn Vue for my daughter in college. I have been a faithful Saturn owner without any issues prior. Since purchase, nothing but electrical problems - including a near crash on the freeway when the car abruptly slowed down to 10 mph. A recall is needed before someone is killed. Weve invested $2,000 to try and fix a ghost problem.

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue. The last couple of years Ive had the same issue with my key. First it would just come out with the car on. Then periodically stick and not come out. I was just searching a website to find out where to get another key and found all these complaints. The key actually is shaved down and the teeth are almost smooth, so I know its grinding on something. I just figured with Saturn out of business, I have no recourse. Now to hear the expense it will cost is crazy. Is there anything can I do?

Thank God, I had a spare key in my purse and was able to lock the car and leave it running. I had a few things to do in town, so my car was on for 6 hours or more. I bought a new Saturn Ion l series and after 4 years, the key begins to stick in the ignition whenever I turn off the car. Regardless what I do it just did not release the key. Sometimes it releases it and then I would hope it doesnt happen but it did. After experiencing this more times than I can count, I drove to the dealer only to be told it would cost me 800+ dollars to get it fixed. I used my car to get to and from work and couldnt walk away. Thank God I had a credit card!!!! They fixed the problem and now years after, I have the same problem occurring again.I agree with many of the owners that GM should have a recall on these Saturns. I do not have any money to pay GM another 400 dollars for repairs that will fail again! In order to prevent the battery from running out, I disconnect the battery when I am at home or when go out. What a job! Anyone can take my car as the key is always sticking out there in the ignition.

I have had to replace the ignition key & tumbler and housing twice in the last 5 years because my key gets stuck in the ignition and the car will not turn off. The last time I did this was in August 2010. Now, it is starting again. When I put my car into park the car will shut off, but it takes me about 10 minutes to get the key out. I have to restart, back-up, pull forward, rinse & repeat. It hasnt reached the point yet to where the car wont turn off but I know it is near in the future since this is how it started the other two times. I really cant afford another $600 to get this fixed again. This is a constant problem yet GM will not issue a recall to help the owners out. I will never ever again buy another GM product. This is frustrating! Does anyone happen to know of a class-action lawsuit that may be in the works? If so, please share.

Please do not buy any Saturns. They are deadly! I purchased this car last year and all I had was problems and recalls. My door locks would go up and down while driving every other day. But when I take it to the shop, then it would stop. They couldnt fix it because they couldnt see the problem. Then my check tire pressure light would come on. I took it to the shop, the tire pressure was fine. Then the auto-theft light would come on and off. Basically the car had a mind of its own. I drove the car about 10 miles today, parked, walked across the street and it was up in smoke. The fire department said it started from the engine. Has this happened to anyone else? This car was a problem from day one. I would stay away from buying any Saturn cars, period!

The car only has 50,000 miles on it and now I have had to replace the starter, and of course the ignition. My work around for this has been to pull all the plastic around the steering column. I pulled the key out with pliers and I can now start it by twisting the ignition bezel. I stop it by pulling the electrical connection at the back of the ignition cylinder. Integrity of repair quote and overall dissatisfaction: Im writing you (Mr. James) this morning to voice my frustration and overall disappointment with my service experience at your dealership. My family relocated to the area in spring of 2011 from Washington State and is the owner of a 2007 Saturn Outlook, which up until this past year, has been a reliable GM product. My wife went online to research which dealership in the area would be convenient to our residence in Anaheim Hills and also provide a level of service commensurate with the GM brand. She settled on Simpson of Buena Park. Our first encounter with your service department involved dealings with James, a service adviser at your location. We brought our vehicle in with just over 73k miles for an oil change, several leaks which we noticed, and air conditioning service. During the inspection, several serious powertrain defects were identified up to and including seals which needed to be replaced, sealant and coolant leaks timing chain and gasket repairs, drive shaft repairs, service engine light illumination which resulted in cam shaft end play shims replacement, water pump replacement, etc. While a majority of these items were under warranty, there was still $373 out-of-pocket expense. We left confident that any long-term serious issue was averted due to a very extensive inspection. In June of this year, we took the same vehicle back in to your dealership for service as another leak was noticed as well as a power steering noise. After inspection and an additional $615, we picked the car up with presumably everything in working order. August 9 of this year, less than 2 months after bringing the car in, the engine light came on and there was hesitation upon acceleration. Mr. Jose was the service adviser who assisted. That afternoon when I called to check on the status of the vehicle, I was informed that the vehicle needed a new engine! Luckily, we purchased an extended warranty when we purchased the vehicle off a lease in 2010.My specific frustrations are: 1) How could such a major defect not be noticed and identified by your service department just 2 months prior? 2) How often are GM vehicles with just 87k miles required to replace an engine? 3) My dealings with the first 2 service advisers (Mr. James and Mr. Jose), while expensive, were pleasant. My current dealing with Mr. Ted has been just the opposite. The fact that he stepped in while Mr. Jose has been away on holiday has proven to be stressful and impossible to get any information regarding the update and status of the vehicle. Hes now informing me that even with the extended warranty and a $100 deductible, Im still looking at between $500 and $600 out-of-pocket expense!Mr. James, to say that our trust in GM workmanship and quality has been diminished would be a gross understatement. The fact that Im being told that we have to pay even more money to repair what appears to be a GM defective product is insulting. I question the integrity of Mr. Teds actions, as the warranty company would not authorize a new motor at the suggestion/advice of Mr. Ted and hes passing some of those costs on to us. I would appreciate your review of this and any assistance you can offer. At this point, Im thoroughly disappointed not only in the decision to purchase a GM product in the first place but also on the decision on where it should be serviced. I will also be contacting GM World headquarterss Consumer Affairs department in Detroit. Thank you for your time.

I parked a vehicle. I went to turn it off and the key would not turn back to off position, the car would not stop running. I finished to drive home. I tried access to the switch inside the column as pointed out in the drivers manual. Also, I tried turning the wheel back and forth, shifting, etc. as pointed out in the manual. The key would not come out. I disconnected the battery and pulled the fuse on injectors to get it to stop. I took it to the dealer the next morning, after leaving it parked outside, unlocked with keys inside the car and started it by reconnecting the battery and inserting the fuse. The cylinder kit and housing kit were replaced at the dealership and one set of keys were replaced. I was told that both keys would work. I tested them in the dealer lot, neither set worked well in the trunk or the doors, but they both started and stopped the car. The bill came to $701.11. I left the dealership to get lunch, half a mile away, went through drive-thru and then to the office for another half mile away. I parked the car to go inside. The key turned the vehicle off, but would not come out of the ignition. I drove back to the dealership and they rechecked it, apparently sprayed some graphite into the ignition, tested it several times and at this point, works. But I have no confidence in this not happening again. Research on the internet shows hundreds of others that have experienced this problem and no recall to this point. Not even an investigation.

I financed a used car (2009 Saturn Vue) on the evening of 2/22/13. On 2/23/13 early afternoon, as I was driving with family members, the car caught on fire. A young lady pulled up next to me and told me that I had fire falling from underneath my car. We immediately pulled over, jumped out, and called 911. The firemen came, put the fire out and did an investigation for their report. They said it looked electrical, but couldnt say for sure. I had the car towed back to the dealer. They were closed on that Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to talk to someone. They do not want to take accountability. They stated that they had to treat this as a new car sale and I had to file an insurance claim. I told them that I hadnt even had the car 24 hours, that I want my downpayment back and the contract cancelled so that I can go and get another car elsewhere. An inspector went out (from my insurance company) and also said it looked electrical, but he could not say that that was the definite cause of the fire. The dealership wants me to go through with the claim. They offered to pay my insurance deductible, but thats it. The sales manager went on and on about how the Saturn Vue was the best used car that they had on the lot and how superior their service inspections are, etc. That is all the more reason for me to be concerned. Them offering to pay a $500 deductible does nothing for my insurance going up, my inability to be able to trade that car in down the line since it had a fire. And since the root cause of the problem could not be found, there is nothing to keep it from happening again. I want my down payment ($1500) back and I want to go elsewhere and get another vehicle as soon as possible. I am currently without a car. I spoke with the salesperson and the sales manager. I was told that the general manager would call me and he did not, nor did the owner. I should not be held accountable for their car catching on fire in less than 24 hours. I drove home from the dealership Friday night, to my cousins funeral on Saturday morning and the car caught on fire while I was driving in the funeral procession early Saturday afternoon.

If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. I have the same problem. I just had the recall from GM done on my 03 Saturn Ion today. They replaced the switch and ignition lock cylinder because of cars going dead because the ignition switch turned off easily with a little weight on the key ring. Accidents occurred and they were sued. This was not for and did not fix the problem of the key not turning all the way off without reaching underneath and pressing the solenoid plunger which feels like a switch (They said nothing when replacing the new switch if this ever happened then). I did not inform them of the problem either.I just found a fairly new video on YouTube that concerns this very problem. Watch the video. Long story short, the shifter micro-switch is not engaging either because of a bad switch or a bad placement fit of the switch to where the plunger of the switch is not being depressed as to close the switch and therefore allow voltage to be applied to the ignition switch solenoid, freeing the cylinder to turn off. The YouTube video title is Saturn Ion key ignition stuck wont come out (solved) manual override & troubleshoot . Search for: video ** by Danroxye01. He made a later one to better explain with audio of what he found out.

I have a new problem now. I parked my car in my driveway last night then went back into the car to run to the store and I am having the opposite problem. Like so many others here, my key often gets sucked in the ignition of my 2004 Saturn Ion and either a) wont start for 15 minutes, or b) wont release after I try to turn the car off. Twice, the ignition turned off while I was driving down the freeway. Today, I had the added fun of the key locking in the ACC position and it wont turn off. I had to remove a fuse to turn the engine off. I have replaced the ignition column (I believe it is what my mechanic called it) as the key was already getting stuck and would not release the key unless I waited several minutes and would not start for 15 to 20 minutes much of the time. That was about 8 months ago. Clearly this did not help much. I cannot emphasize enough what a piece of garbage this car is. I will never own another GM car as a direct result of my experience with it. I have poured an insane amount of money into it to correct a wide variety of defects but I am done. It isnt worth repairing one more time. It is too bad that American made equals garbage.

I had to have it towed to a transmission shop where they said it would be anywhere from $900 to $1500 to fix it. Now I am reading about all these other customers that have a Saturn, and it is bound to happen again. I think Saturn should have a recall to replace these faulty transmissions. I always thought Saturn was respectable company, but now, I just dont know.

In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.

My mother, like most people who received a recall letter in the mail this past year and who also happens to be one of the fortunate ones that can live to tell this story took her 2005 Saturn Ion to Love Chevrolet to have it serviced due to the ignition switch recall. Mind you there had been no issues with the car prior to. Where some people might say Saturns were poorly made my mothers car was actually one of the good ones. I always felt safe in it and more than safe enough to have my 5 year old daughter in the car. Whats the motto? If it isnt broke, dont fix it? Well, to say the least the day after Love put a generic ignition switch into her Saturn Ion handed her a new set of keys and told her the car was more than safe to drive long distances it was being towed off the side of the road. Their claim? My mother needed a new starter, 2 coil replacements and a new module and that the timing of the repairs was coincidental with what took place. The dealership was quick to tell us how much it would cost to replace the parts and was even quicker to let us know they would not be paying for it. Coincidental? Really?? Strike one. Thanks, GM. A few days later a family friend and mechanic does some research online, finds a starter from another Saturn and installs the part himself hoping to save my mother some money. However he is unable to run a diagnostic on the module because there is a code to get into it and only GM knows this code. Does that even sound legal to anyone else? GM has a code on your car making it near impossible for you to send it to any other place to have it fixed?? Its brilliant and slimy all at the same time..more slimy than brilliant. Anyhow, once the starter has been replaced all is well for about 3 hours and then its back to the side of the road we go. However, this time weve noticed some things. The car has no power, almost as if the battery has been drained and there is a smell coming from the ignition switch like something has burned up. So, with better judgment my mother decides to have it towed to a very trusted shop out in town instead of back to the GM dealership. I myself am military and stationed in Norfolk, VA and I often times wait to have maintenance done on my own car until Im visiting my mother in SC at this very shop, that is how trusted they are to me and my family. They explain to my mother that it is her ignition switch which is burning up her starter and draining her battery and they will personally give GM a call to find out what can be done since they should replace their faulty part. Sounds about right to me! GMs rebuttal? The mechanics my mother chose are not certified GM mechanics, a diagnostic was done previously while the car was at GM and since then my mother has had multiple hands in the car which could have caused those failures. They cannot be held responsible and will not be held responsible. Once again, GM was prepared with the labor and parts quote. Strike two and three. Thanks again, GM. Now, tell me something. Even if we were willing to have GM fix this again the trust is now out the window and my mother would be afraid to drive her car anywhere much less with my 5 year old daughter in it. I believe they would quietly fix the ignition switch issue and tell her it was something completely different. Is GM secretly trying to make up all the money they lost in labor for these recalls by putting parts in to cars they know are not necessarily compatible in hopes that these codes will force people to come back and have to pay out of pocket expenses? I know that my mother would hate to have another car payment right now but I have a feeling that regardless of if we spend the money to fix this or not that is exactly where we will end up, in a Honda dealership. People, please pay attention to what is going on out there with this recall. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else or worse. Thanks for absolutely nothing GM.

On 06/13/2014 after coming down a steep hill, car would not down shift. Once the car did down shift, came to a stoplight and car began a jerking motion. When tried to drive the car, it started a grinding noise. Once I got the car to a parking lot it would not move in any gear not even into manual mode. Once it was at the GM dealer I was told that it was suggested that I get a new transmission at the cost of $4500.00 - not going to happen. I called the GM headquarters and set up a claim to see if it is under recall. I am in on the lawsuit.

And apparently because of the Cash for Clunkers, Saturn was one of the cars that everyone junked because couldnt get parts for the cars. My daughter has a Saturn ion redline that was part of the recall. Her car started to have problems starting, so she took it to a repair shop and they ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong with the car. It happened again, so she took it elsewhere and they suggested she change the battery - so she did. The very next day she had difficulty starting the car on two occasions and on the third attempt later that night it would not start at all. Since the recall had been for the car suddenly shutting down - not starting, we didnt think about the recall until after that. She had hit a hidden bump in the road before it stopped completely. She called the former Saturn dealer and told them what happened and they said it was the recall (we had read up on the forums and knew it was by then) and to have it towed to them - which we did. They gave her a Buick to drive. Today they called and said they had replaced the part and it still wouldnt start so it had to be the cars engine. They want to run diagnostics (which we had already done). Understandably, we dont trust them. Has anyone else had this experience?

Ive owned my Saturn Ion for 6 years. About 2.5 years ago I discovered that my key would get stuck in the ignition of the vehicle after turning the car off. The engine shuts off, but the power (lights and radio) remains on. I called Saturn and they told me to bring it in. At this time, I had driven about 58000 miles and was still under waranty. They acknowledged the issue (in writing) and said the entire ignition piece of the car had to be replaced. They also said they would have to order the parts. I took my car back while they ordered the parts. After about a month, I called asking when the part would be in because I hadnt heard anything. They told me Oh, the part came in yesterday. You can bring the car back and well fix it. I brought the car back and since I was now over 60000 miles, they said I was no longer under warranty, and the job would cost more than $500. I argued that they documented the issue while I was still under warranty with no success. The Saturn mechanic said I should have called for the part sooner, and that if I had ordered a pizza and it was not delivered in an hour, would I not call before a month had gone by to check on it? I told him he was full of it since he told me the part had just come in yesterday. He then told me that I should have stopped driving the car to keep the milage under 60000. I told him it was my only car to which he responded I would have paid to rent a car rather than pay $500 to have my car fixed. I told him had I known his willingness to pay, I would have called him and allowed him to rent one and pay the bill for me. Needless to say, I refused to pay for the work, and never got my car fixed. I took the complaint to corporate only to have the complaint closed out with no solution and no notification. I opened another one, and yet again got no solution. Eventually (after about a year of argument), they told me they would perform the job for $100 plus parts. I told them that Saturn would never get another dime of my money and did not take them up on their so-called offer.

Our 2009 Saturn Outlook ONLY has 53,000 miles on it. The 100,000 mile warranty was up because we have just barely had our vehicle 5 years. We have taken it to the same dealer for the life of the car, and taken very good care of it. I was driving to work the other day and my power steering and transmission completely went out. I almost lost control of the vehicle several times. It started when I was at a stoplight, when I pressed the gas to accelerate once it turned green, then my car lurched forward but only revved up. I made it work and then it wouldnt go in reverse at all!. I had it towed to a trusted mechanic. He told us it was indeed the transmission and power-steering but also that the rack and pinion broke. We had our car to the dealer several times for the whining noise to be fixed but they only ever told me they didnt hear the noise. I called GM, who told us to have it towed to a certified GM dealer and that the power steering should have been under a special coverage warranty. Turns out GM was sued and lost in court because of the power steering. The dealer then refused to diagnose my car without us paying them a $1,000 up front. I told them it had already been diagnosed, and if this was covered under their special warranty, then why on earth should I have to pay this large amount of money up front. The service manager told me he did NOT believe that our problem was covered under this special warranty and that the transmission doesnt go out because of the power steering. He said one doesnt have anything to do with the other. Well funny, then how they both went out at the exact same time. I went round and round with both the dealer and GM and neither of them want to take responsibility for what has happened. Especially considering we have documented proof (the dealer has it in their computers) that we had our car to them multiple times to have THIS exact issue fixed. I believe it is time to get another law suit started. GM needs to fix their faulty vehicles BEFORE someone gets severely hurt or dies! We had it towed a 3rd time to be taken care of by our mechanic since the dealer refused to diagnose our vehicle. Do not ever trust GM or their Certified dealers, all they care about is lining their pockets.

My head just might explode!!! We bought our 2008 Saturn from a certified dealer about 3 years ago. The vehicle had just about 30K miles on it at the time. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed that the engine light would come on and the service StabiliTrak light would come on. I obviously brought it back to the dealership, as it was under warranty at that time, and they said they figured out the problem and sent us on our way. Of course, no sooner did I pull out of the shop, and they light came on again. So, back we went...they said they repaired it. Sure enough, it did it again and they eventually came to the conclusion it was just a stupid sensor and everything was actually fine!Fast forward to December 2013 and the POS starts acting up. The transmission light came on and I panicked. My brother-in-law suggested we just try putting in more fluid and see if that helps. We did...it helped for about 2 days. And then...HELL BROKE LOOSE!! The entire transmission was shot!! It had something to do about a wave plate and as a result, we needed to get an entirely rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $3,600!!! Literally, on the way home from the repair shop, the engine light started flashing! I immediately turned around and brought it back to the shop. They ran some tests and determined that it was likely some excess crap that just happened to pass through the sensor causing it to get triggered. Now, 8 months later, the engine light keeps going on and whenever I fill my car with gas, I have to rev the accelerator to get it to start!! It seemed to be running ok...but after the last fiasco, we didnt want to risk anything. So, I brought it into the shop. The technician find that there has been over 36K misfires from cylinder 2 and that the spark plug has seized. I leave my vehicle there and drive their 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 232K miles on it over the weekend as a loaner. (amazing how a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 232K miles is still running, but my 2008 with 92K miles on it is toast). Anyways, he said that they wanted to replace the spark plugs and then try moving the cylinder coil that had been connected to the #2 over to a different one to see if maybe the issue was just the cylinder coil and nothing more serious.I receive a call this afternoon telling me that it appears that the issue was not related to the cylinder coil and they suspect we are going to need a NEW ENGINE!!!!! Yep, thats right...A NEW ENGINE!!!! This car does not even have 100K miles on it and I am being told I need to put a NEW ENGINE in it??? After we already replaced the transmission!!! That is seriously wrong and a total load of crap!!It appears that both the transmission and the engine are well-known problems for this model and year of vehicle!! I guess 2007s are experiencing the same troubles!! If you look online you can see discussion board after discussion board all discussing these same issues. Saturn needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a faulty product!!! There is no reason I should have to put in over $10K worth of repairs on a vehicle with less than 100K miles on it!! It is disgraceful!!!

Ive had numerous problems with my 2005 Saturn Ion since I purchased it barely used in 2008. First, it was an ominous Check Engine light which after spending $400 in unneeded repairs, turned out to be something with the master computer. After I had the ignition replaced, now I cant get the car to start. The dealership cant find anything wrong with it and the mechanic says that its the master computer needs to be replaced. On top of all that, all of the automatic windows died. Had to quit my job because of my health and Im so fed up with all this, I could just scream.

I purchased a new Saturn Ion for my daughter. It has always had issues - 2 or 3 ignition switches, 2 or 3 power steering motors, 2 or 3 fuel pumps, bad gas mileage, clunking front end. Too many parts replaced to count 3 or 4 parts stores in town. They know me by name and I dont even have to tell them the make of the car. This thing is a wreck. Only two good things I dont have to wash it. Its not worth the money to clean it up. And I can go to Wal-mart without worrying about somebody stealing it or running into it. My key gets stuck in my Saturn Ion ignition switch. It turns as far back that the car turns off but that the radio is still on. This problem has caused my battery to die a few times but for the most part, it is just a pain to remember to go back for my key before bed. Sometimes it will come out within seconds; other times, it is several hours. As I read on this site and a few others, it is a big issue. I wish they would issue a recall. Just the other day, I received a letter about a recall on the power steering. Hopefully, they will have one for this too!

I own a 2009 Saturn Outlook XR with approximately 84000 miles on the vehicle. The transmission has failed on the vehicle, and the warranty was for five years or 100,000 miles. My local dealer has said the five years are up and they will not give me any consideration for repairs and want over four thousand dollars to repair it. When the towing company placed the vehicle on the roll back, the operator made the statement that he averages quite a few of these a week! This vehicle has had at least six recalls on major issues, water pump, power steering, power tailgate, seat belts, and etc. I can assure you this will be the last GM vehicle that I will ever buy. I have talked to two transmission shops in town and have been told that this transmission has had issues from the very start, and GM has been working on correcting the problem with the transmission. I was told GM has made three changes in the last twenty-four months to correct the problems with this transmission. Thanks GM, for keeping your customers updated on a defective transmission.

I purchased my Saturn Outlook as a demo in July of 2007 with about 13,000 miles. My transmission failed at only 48,000 miles and was rebuilt since I was still under warranty. Now less than 20,000 miles and 2 years later, I am having the same gear change, engine light, stalling and jerking problems that I experienced at 48,000 miles. Now no longer under warranty, I am paying all kinds of service and labor fees when GM is well aware of the faulty clutch wave plate destroying transmissions in its vehicles. They need a recall on this product as it is a safety issue for Americans all across this country. Shame on GM for sweeping this issue under the rug and giving American products a bad name. It will come back to bite them in the end!

I started smelling gas in my 2006 Saturn Ion in October of 2016 and took into a local service center to have it checked. They informed me that it was the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced right away. Well in my mind all I was thinking is my car could catch on fire so I agreed and they did the repairs on 11/11/2016 to the tune of $437.79. Later I find out that this was a special coverage recall and that my local dealer would have did the job at no cost to me. I called customer care and explained that I felt like this was an emergency and was not thinking about my local dealership which is 20 miles away. She gave me a case # and told me to get a reimbursement form from dealership and submit the papers and surely they could do something. Well I sent paperwork off in January 2017 and now in March since I have not heard anything I decided to contact them. They informed me that my claim was denied and that my vehicle still has the coverage so if it happens again take it to the dealership. I told her how upset I was and this was awful that I am out off pocket for something that was their fault. My car is 11 years old with 104,050 miles on it and the cap for the coverage is I think 150,000 miles. I would hope that a fuel pump would last longer than a few thousand miles. My wife has a 05 Saturn Vue, the engine blew up whilst driving home from work. No check engine light, no warning at all. The car lost power steering but luckily no accident. I called GM customer service and told them what happened and they said car needed to go to a dealer to be looked at... They arranged for it to be taken to local dealer. The dealer said engine was gone. I called GM back and asked them what they were planning to do and was told they would do nothing again. I explained that it could have killed my wife and that surely there should have been a warning of some description...I was passed around from person to person sitting on hold for 37 mins to speak to a supervisor. When he got on the phone he muttered something and transferred me again. So I called the headquarters in Detroit and got pretty much the same response. I now have a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. I even had to fight them to get my car towed back to my house (there was more bad cust service but too much to mention). So this bears as much as a warning to all Saturn drivers. BE CAREFUL, THEY BLOW UP WITHOUT WARNING AND GM DONT CARE!!!!!

Our Saturn Vue 2006 needs a secondary axle bearing, GM part No. 24460143. Should be simple, right? No! After searching locally and online we called GMs Detroit Headquarters in July, only to be told that they have stopped making this bearing. Their policy is supposedly to continue producing parts at least till the vehicle is 10 years old. The young man we spoke with in July promised to open a case to check into this and get back to us shortly. We waited for 2 MONTHS, with no response. Finally we called back and after about 6 hours of phone calls we were but through to Marie at GM Corporate Headquarters. Explained the problem all over again, waited another week while she looked into the situation, only to be told, sorry about your luck, we dont make that bearing anymore, and that since the problem had been diagnosed by someone other than a GM dealership, they had no responsibility to produce the part. Deduction: General Motors does not stand behind its products, will only consider General Motors Dealership mechanics as qualified to diagnose problems on their vehicles!!!

I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue on 7/7. A month and a half later, the issues began. On 9/2, I started seeing smoke coming out of the vents with a strong coolant smell as if the antifreeze was burning. There was also an oily film on the windshield. I thought that it would go away but it continued the following day and the day after. It worsens if the air is turned on.Not even two months after purchase, my vehicle took its first trip to my privately owned auto shop. I was told by the mechanic that the hose for heating and air conditioning needed to be cleared out for any blockage. The vehicle was fine for a day or two and the same issue occurred. On 9/9, I returned to the shop and the hose was checked. There was no smoke or vapor from the vents or oily film on the windshield for two days.I called Saturn customer service to report this issue. They took all of my information and told me to take it to a GM dealer. I made an appointment with Mike Anderson, a GM certified dealer in Merrillville, Indiana. I was told that I will be charged $79.95 for each problem or complaint. On 9/16, I took the vehicle back for a different diagnosis and was told that the heater core needed to be replaced due to a fracture causing the antifreeze to leak. The antifreeze or coolant drips on the engine causing a vapor or mist to blow through the vents, causing an oily film on the windshield. On 9/21, my vehicle was dead. It wouldnt start at all. Yes! A vehicle that wasnt even three months old had a dead battery, I assumed. I used jumper cables to revive it. On 9/23, I took it to the GM dealer to be told by Joshua ** in customer service that the diagnosis is a fracture in the heater core and the entire part need to be replaced. In order to perform this repair, the entire dashboard had to be removed. Also, the battery was very weak. Joshua quoted me $1,600.00 plus $79.95 for the diagnosis. Who has that kind of money these days? Joshua attempted to bring me the vehicle and the vehicle was dead again. He used jumper cables and drove it for about five minutes and delivered it to me.I called Saturn customer service back and gave Julie more information on the diagnosis and the cost. She asked for my private auto shop that I use normally and I gave that information also. She worded the complaint as seeking reimbursement for repairs and gave me the misunderstanding that I could take it to my privately owned auto shop.I got a return call two days later only to be told that I should have taken it back to the GM dealer for repairs because they reduced the cost. What a disappointment! Why wasnt I told that in the first place by Red at customer service when I called on 9/9 or Julie when I called on 9/26? In the future, customers should be told not to take their vehicles to an outside shop because assistance cannot be given.

I was driving my VUE on the feeder road of the freeway when I came to the stop sign and as I began to take off my engine just revved up and would not go. I put it in park and turned the car off and it started up fine but when I tried to put in drive it just wouldnt move. I then had it towed to a mechanic shop and they looked at it and said it needed a new transmission which would be about 5,000. I took it to several shops and they all basically said the same thing. I was told by this one shop here in Houston, TX that there was a lawsuit against GM and I would have to pay for the repairs upfront but that GM would reimburse me. So I did a little research and I have seen several blogs on this subject but I guess I didnt do enough. I paid the repair shop $4900.00 to fix the transmission and still it doesnt run right. I have had to take it back to them 2 times for them to fix the transmission. GM should pay for the repair costs and there shouldnt be a time limit when we could have filed a claim. Im sure there are more Saturn cars that will be having the same problem in the future and were going to be stuck paying more for repairs than the car is probably worth.

Common problems with Saturns. The L-SERIES timing chain brakes without warning , so if you are an owner always drive next to the side of the road for ease of stop when this happens (only a matter of time) the ION and VUEs have common transmission problems, the S-SERIES have a common leak issue, pretty much if you are a Saturn owner put about $4000 aside because you will need it sooner or later(sorry to say), and say a prayer before you drive that Saturn car always.
