Saturn Automobile Model 2009 Saturn Vue

2009 Saturn Vue

The 2009 Saturn Vue is a compact SUV known for its versatility, comfortable ride, and available hybrid powertrain. Here are some key features and information about the 2009 Saturn Vue:

Design: The 2009 Vue features a modern and compact SUV design. It has a well-proportioned body, a distinctive front grille, and clean lines. The Vue's design strikes a balance between functionality and style.

Engine and Performance: The Vue offers different engine options depending on the trim level:

2.4-liter four-cylinder engine: This engine produces around 169 horsepower and provides good fuel efficiency. It is typically paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

3.6-liter V6 engine: This engine generates approximately 257 horsepower, delivering stronger performance and acceleration. It is typically paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Hybrid Option: The Vue is available with a hybrid powertrain known as the Vue Green Line. It combines a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver improved fuel efficiency. The hybrid system assists the engine during acceleration and deceleration, reducing fuel consumption.

Interior Features: The Vue offers a comfortable and well-equipped interior. It typically includes seating for up to five passengers, cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a CD audio system. Depending on the trim level and options, additional features may include leather upholstery, heated seats, a premium audio system, and a navigation system.

Cargo Space and Versatility: The Vue provides a decent amount of cargo space for a compact SUV. It offers versatility with a flat-folding rear seat that allows for easy loading and expansion of the cargo area. Additionally, the front passenger seat can also fold flat to accommodate longer items.

Safety Features: Standard safety features on the 2009 Vue include antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. The Vue is designed to prioritize safety and provide protection for both the driver and passengers.

Reliability: The 2009 Vue generally demonstrates good reliability. However, it's important to note that Saturn is no longer in production, and finding parts and service may be more challenging compared to more widely available vehicles. It's recommended to research the vehicle's maintenance history and overall condition before purchasing a used 2009 Saturn Vue.

If you're considering purchasing a 2009 Saturn Vue, I recommend checking the vehicle's specifications and options with a Saturn dealership or using online resources that provide detailed information about the particular vehicle you are interested in. Additionally, a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic can help ensure the vehicle is in good condition.

Problem #1: Ignition key not returning to off to be able to remove it. My dad removed the 1 square access panel on the bottom side of the steering column cover (right under cylinder) so I would be able to push the release button.Problem #2: Key goes in ignition but wont turn. Dad looked at it but its too intermittent to diagnose. Still works with some additional tries so far.Problem #3: Key goes in and turns and everything lights up but no engine rotation. This problem seems more prevalent when the temps fall below 40 degrees F. Dad looked at it but its too intermittent to diagnose. Still works with some additional tries so far.Question: Is there not an ignition that GM builds from another car that doesnt have these problems that is compatible with the 05 Saturn Ion?

I have a 2006 Saturn ION with only 60K miles and it has been in the shop for manufacturer defects 3 times already. I paid 200 for the ignition lock in May since the key will get stuck and I could not turn car off. I am a single parent with kids and it was scary when your car is stuck. I also paid $300 for a new camshaft actuator and selenoid. Now in December another valve malfunctioned and I called customer service and they gave me the run-around. I dealt with a district specialist named Vince and one named Drew and they both laughed at me and told me I am out of warranty since it’s past the 5 year mark and there is nothing they can do even though the dealer told them on the phone that it’s a manufacturer defect. I was told by Drew from Saturn, “Sorry, these things happen…” They had promised to give me at least a 10% discount and the dealership told me that they had no documentation. They never returned my calls. I have paid over $1000 out of my pocket for manufacturer defects and this car only has 60k. It keeps failing—valve, keys, fuel pump. Help.

2006 Saturn Ion got to work and could not shut my car off. I work at a jail so I could not go in and go on the internet to find the closest Saturn dealer, which I find out later is an hour away in Stockton. I took it to the first auto repair I found and it cost almost $700.00 to get it fixed. I am submitting my bill to Saturn, with a formal complaint to get this reimbursed. I see lots and lots of this happening and it should be a recall.

New engine at 106,000. We just bought the Saturn 2008 Outlook at 76,000 less than 2 years ago. We have already put in $600 in fixes, and now we found out the engine needs to be replaced for $5000. This car has been a total lemon. Researching the v6 3.6 lt engine we have found out that it is a piece of junk.

When we went out looking for a car we wanted it be spacious but not too big. Comfortable but not overpriced. Reliable and able to be a commuter vehicle we could depend on for a good amount of years. Saturn Aura is good reliable family sedan car that is ready to take commuter miles and still be gas efficient, its a vehicle that only gives problems when its in need of major repairs. But one of the things most frustrating about the car is no paper repair manual and what there is electronic which when you are a true mechanic is not always possible to handle, I would love a repair manual in Spanish paper bound so my husband can make as many repairs as needed.

As has happened to many Saturn owners, our 2006 Ions ignition has locked up. I cant pull the key out or shut the car off. I have called a Chevy dealer and they are not covering this under warranty or recall at this time. This will be a $300 repair and has been happening to thousands of people. This problem should be covered by a recall. We had to replace lock housing, and cylinder and reprogram.

We have had numerous problems with our 2006 Saturn Vue, which all started with having to roll over extra payments from a 2005 Vue that we had multiple problems with. The first major issue we had was the torque converter, where they said they could never recreate the incident so couldnt help us.They finally replaced it (before the recall came out) and at that time, they also replaced the ignition because of the problems we were having trying to turn the key to start the car. We’re unsure if they actually replaced it or not. Now, we are once again having ignition problems and we are out of warranty. The GM dealership wants to charge me $80 for the ignition tumbler and $60 per key to recode them. That is with me installing it by the way.

I too have a 1999 Saturn, and my son was driving and it started to jerk. He had to pull over on the side of the road and found that the car would not go into any gears. He had no neutral on it. I had the car towed to a local garage, and the mechanic said it was a transmission problem. I had to have it towed to a transmission shop where they said it would be anywhere from $900 to $1500 to fix it. Now I am reading about all these other customers that have a Saturn, and it is bound to happen again. I think Saturn should have a recall to replace these faulty transmissions. I always thought Saturn was respectable company, but now, I just dont know.

I purchased a new Saturn Ion for my daughter. It has always had issues - 2 or 3 ignition switches, 2 or 3 power steering motors, 2 or 3 fuel pumps, bad gas mileage, clunking front end. Too many parts replaced to count 3 or 4 parts stores in town. They know me by name and I dont even have to tell them the make of the car. This thing is a wreck. Only two good things I dont have to wash it. Its not worth the money to clean it up. And I can go to Wal-mart without worrying about somebody stealing it or running into it. Last car for me from GM and I remind my kids to not buy one either.

Also, the repairs on the vehicle can get expensive if youre not sure where to get them from.

For this past year, I have been battling with my 2004 Ion. First, it started with having a hard time starting in colder mornings. Then it took longer and longer to get it going. Finally, I took it in and spent $1,000 for a new timing belt and it was fine for a short while. I took it in again and spent another grand on a new ignition. Within 48 hours of that service, my key has gotten stuck in the ignition and would not allow the car to be turned off. After reading about all these other people suffering for something that is not our fault is complete **. This has convinced me to not ever buy a GM product again. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying an American product to support jobs but this is horrible.

Bought my 03 Saturn wagon 5 years ago. Engine light stays on 3 years now. Clears out with mechanic. Get it to pass inspection. Light comes back on. Horn died, trunk lock had to be replaced, eats tires and sway bars like crazy. Put new brakes every year. Everything rusted underneath. New manifold. Needed catalytic converter twice. Now I just cant put any more funds into this car. Seeking a different vehicle now. Only has 167,000 miles. I drove a 96 Subaru wagon into the ground. It had over 200,000 miles and still ran awesome. It was the body that finally gave out. Disappointed in the many needed repairs. Doesnt shift out of first without struggling either. The clock gains a minute every couple weeks.

I bought a 2002 Saturn Ion sl2 and Ive had nothing but problems. How is it that these crooks are allowed to get away with this? My ignition locked up while I was driving leaving me stranded for three hours on a busy road in 100 degree heat with no extra money for a tow truck or to get it fixed, and unable to after replacing the ignition to unlock the vehicle. I am glad that my son was not in the car with me and there was no accident as an outcome of this or GM would be hearing from my attorney. I will be getting rid of this car immediately. And the thing that irritates me the most is that NO ONE from this company cares. They care about making their money and robbing people, people like me who had to save up months to be able to purchase a vehicle hoping it would be reliable and safe to transfer my son and I from daycare, work and school. I will never purchase another vehicle through them again. Now I have to worry about how I will be repairing a vehicle I dont have money to fix and still pay my bills and find a way to work and school. Thank you so much for your poor engineering.

I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. The GM rep referred me back to the dealership. The dealership told me that there is no other option. I am not out to get money, just an answer to why nothing could be done and is there anything that really could be?

It looks like I am one of many who own a 2003 Saturn Ion where the ignition lock cylinder locks up & cant remove key. It happens many times, twice this week. I went to the auto store & got a new cylinder. I tried to put in it, but now the key goes in & out easily but the whole cylinder will not turn at all, so the car cant be started! Im going to have to tear apart the steering column maybe. I dont want to have to buy another new part costing $84+ tax especially since the new parts probably are defective also. It does absolutely no good to buy the new part & it doesnt work when you install it. Since now the cylinder is completely stuck & doesnt move at all, I cant even use the car! I have to carpool my wife to her job etc, and cant afford to buy another car. Since Saturn & GM knows about all the Saturn owners having this same problem, there needs to be a major recall and a class action suit to repay all the owners for the expenses they incur because Saturn/GM stopped making new cars, and the local GM mechanics, etc. just throw up their hands and say sorry! This is a consumer nightmare.

I parked a vehicle. I went to turn it off and the key would not turn back to off position, the car would not stop running. I finished to drive home. I tried access to the switch inside the column as pointed out in the drivers manual. Also, I tried turning the wheel back and forth, shifting, etc. as pointed out in the manual. The key would not come out. I disconnected the battery and pulled the fuse on injectors to get it to stop. I took it to the dealer the next morning, after leaving it parked outside, unlocked with keys inside the car and started it by reconnecting the battery and inserting the fuse. The cylinder kit and housing kit were replaced at the dealership and one set of keys were replaced. I was told that both keys would work. I tested them in the dealer lot, neither set worked well in the trunk or the doors, but they both started and stopped the car. The bill came to $701.11. I left the dealership to get lunch, half a mile away, went through drive-thru and then to the office for another half mile away. I parked the car to go inside. The key turned the vehicle off, but would not come out of the ignition. I drove back to the dealership and they rechecked it, apparently sprayed some graphite into the ignition, tested it several times and at this point, works. But I have no confidence in this not happening again. Research on the internet shows hundreds of others that have experienced this problem and no recall to this point. Not even an investigation.

I bought a GM Certified 2007 Saturn Aura in November of 2008. The vehicle had 14,500 miles on it when I purchased it. The car fax said there were no problems, other than a minor gasket, which was replaced at about 5,000 miles. I immediately went into the dealership for wheel imbalance problems, that the dealership never did satisfactorily fix. My own mechanic later told me he found a bent rim on one wheel right away, when he replaced the tires. The brake pads broke at 15,000 miles, and the seat back airbag housing fell apart at 16,000 miles (no one sits in my back seat). Both door speakers were replaced by 16,000 miles, and I am not a teenager. It was in the shop for steering noise and vibration problems, on three separate times. The new oil pan gasket was done at 16,500 miles. The washer fluid pump failed at 37,000 miles, and the final problem after 4 years at 45,000 miles, the head gasket failed. Most of these things were taken care of under warranty, but the sheer time it takes to wade through all of these problems is not worth it to drive American.I am a GM brat, and this will be the last vehicle that I purchase from them. This is the worst vehicle that I have had, since my 1984 Renault Alliance. I owe more than the dumb thing is worth, so I have no choice but to keep my fingers crossed, and hope that it lasts until I pay it off. 2007 was the first model year for the Aura, but GM had been making the Opel equivalent for at least two years before. You think they would have worked the bugs out, before they brought it to the US.

My son who just graduated and saved his money to buy his first care, brought a 1999 Saturn SL for $1000 as-is. It ran for less than 12 hours and the engine blew up. We went back to the dealer and he would not help us out at all. He said it was his problem, not the dealers problem. His first word out of his mouth was, does it have oil in it? It was really low on oil, barely showed on the dip stick we put two quarts in it and he drove it home and the next morning on his way to work, it blew a rod. We tried to get him to help us, but all he said was the car was no good to him now, so my son is out a car and $1000. Please, I just want everyone to beware of this dealer.

I have a 2004 Saturn ION and my key kept getting stuck in the ignition. One day, I came home and could not shut my car off. I was just getting home from taking my daughter to the doctor because of a temperature of 103 (plus it was also 90 outside) so instead of taking her in my house to let her rest, we went to the mechanic. Fortunately, I didnt take it to a Saturn dealership, where I would have been way over charged. I went to the local mechanic where I paid $300 to get the key out of the ignition and have a new ignition installed. Obviously, this is not just a fluke and Saturn needs to pay for the repair. Now, neither of my windows will go up or down either; one stopped and then three months later, the other. I dont know why Saturn is not around anymore.

Integrity of repair quote and overall dissatisfaction: Im writing you (Mr. James) this morning to voice my frustration and overall disappointment with my service experience at your dealership. My family relocated to the area in spring of 2011 from Washington State and is the owner of a 2007 Saturn Outlook, which up until this past year, has been a reliable GM product. My wife went online to research which dealership in the area would be convenient to our residence in Anaheim Hills and also provide a level of service commensurate with the GM brand. She settled on Simpson of Buena Park. Our first encounter with your service department involved dealings with James, a service adviser at your location. We brought our vehicle in with just over 73k miles for an oil change, several leaks which we noticed, and air conditioning service. During the inspection, several serious powertrain defects were identified up to and including seals which needed to be replaced, sealant and coolant leaks timing chain and gasket repairs, drive shaft repairs, service engine light illumination which resulted in cam shaft end play shims replacement, water pump replacement, etc. While a majority of these items were under warranty, there was still $373 out-of-pocket expense. We left confident that any long-term serious issue was averted due to a very extensive inspection. In June of this year, we took the same vehicle back in to your dealership for service as another leak was noticed as well as a power steering noise. After inspection and an additional $615, we picked the car up with presumably everything in working order. August 9 of this year, less than 2 months after bringing the car in, the engine light came on and there was hesitation upon acceleration. Mr. Jose was the service adviser who assisted. That afternoon when I called to check on the status of the vehicle, I was informed that the vehicle needed a new engine! Luckily, we purchased an extended warranty when we purchased the vehicle off a lease in 2010.My specific frustrations are: 1) How could such a major defect not be noticed and identified by your service department just 2 months prior? 2) How often are GM vehicles with just 87k miles required to replace an engine? 3) My dealings with the first 2 service advisers (Mr. James and Mr. Jose), while expensive, were pleasant. My current dealing with Mr. Ted has been just the opposite. The fact that he stepped in while Mr. Jose has been away on holiday has proven to be stressful and impossible to get any information regarding the update and status of the vehicle. Hes now informing me that even with the extended warranty and a $100 deductible, Im still looking at between $500 and $600 out-of-pocket expense!Mr. James, to say that our trust in GM workmanship and quality has been diminished would be a gross understatement. The fact that Im being told that we have to pay even more money to repair what appears to be a GM defective product is insulting. I question the integrity of Mr. Teds actions, as the warranty company would not authorize a new motor at the suggestion/advice of Mr. Ted and hes passing some of those costs on to us. I would appreciate your review of this and any assistance you can offer. At this point, Im thoroughly disappointed not only in the decision to purchase a GM product in the first place but also on the decision on where it should be serviced. I will also be contacting GM World headquarterss Consumer Affairs department in Detroit. Thank you for your time.

I bought my Saturn Aura from a used dealership and couldnt have been happier with my choice. Ive had it for 3 years, just replaced the starter for the first time, gas is wonderful, smooth ride, wonderful seat warmers!!!! I absolutely love my car. The seats are that comfortable so it is great for long trips. I have lower back pain and have absolutely no problems with seats at all. I love the seat warmers, they heat up fairly quickly and its not just the seat it is the back as well. Super cozy for when it is cold outside. So the car sits kind of low and Im short so seeing over the dashboard can be an issue however not in this car, with the electric seat settings I can sit all the way up height wise and it brings me in closer so I can reach the pedals at the same time. I can even angle the seat some for my comfort. Several settings easy to adjust to what you like. The sunroof is absolutely amazing! I havent had any issues with leaks or mechanical. It is so wonderful to have the sunroof open and the windows down on a summers day. Gas mileage is pretty great too, it usually takes about 25-30 to fill up when gas is 2.25 The leather seats are genuine and very smooth. Feels and looks very high end. Very big windshield with huge view! I like to see out across a big windshield and boy this car is full view thankfully! I have owned it for 3 years now. The only thing that could improve would be to bring the car back and add back massagers to the seats. The plastic covers on the inside break off real easily too. Other than that like the old saying is whats not broke dont fix it and why should you.

My 2005 Saturn Ion wont start. There is no problem with my car. It has new battery, starter, alternator. It drove just fine the night before. It snowed then in the morning it wont start. The engine lights come on and the radio and inside light but the engine wont click or make a sound of any kind. Its just not right for them to make cars with such horrible defects. I actual have had another bad experience with this car. I came out of Walmart and opened my car and started it. Was about to drive off when I realized it wasnt my car but instead the one next to it. I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. I was also informed Saturn no longer makes cars and that complaints dont hurt GM as they dont affect them. We should start a lawsuit.

My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignitio
My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignition. I am a nursing student and I missed a very important meeting due to this issue. I drove to a Firestone and he said that he has fixed at least 50 Saturn Ions with this same issue this year. He also said due to Saturn parts being in an unorganized warehouse, it would take at least five to 10 business days until he would be able to receive the part. So I could be out of a car for possibly two weeks. And it will cost around $600 for repair and labor. I will also have to pay for a rental during this time! Saturn and General Motors need to be held accountable if so many consumers are having the same issue! The key of my 2007 Saturn got locked in the on position and couldnt turn off. I know other Saturn owners who have had the same problem; I found numerous complaints on the Internet.

Ive had to replace my ignition 4 times in the past 4 years. The key gets stuck and I either cant turn the car off or I cant turn it on. The mechanic who replaced it the last time indicated that the ignition was a really bad part and that he was certain it would fail again. When I took it to the dealership after the recall, the foreman indicated that my problem was not the same problem indicated in the recall. He said, the recall problem is a safety issue and mine was not. I am NOT comfortable driving around in this car knowing what has happened to some.

I took my Saturn into the dealership to be fixed. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before stopping. The dealership stated that the car was not safe to drive at all and that the brake booster hose ($33.00 part) needed to be replaced. After 3 full weeks in the dealership without repair, the service department requested we call and see if we could get a part as General Motors was not able to supply the parts to fix the car. I called the parts supplier as I was told by Maria that General Motors did not have the parts for a Saturn and did not have a clue when or if they would.” She made it clear that the parts supplier wont talk to General Motors and vice versa.I asked her what GM was going to do about my predicament. She told me that I should not expect GM to have the parts for the car due to its age (Federal Law mandates parts be available for 10 years post production) and GM would do nothing to help. GM expects me to buy another car.I asked about the 10-year law and how GM was going to handle that. She stated that the part has not been discontinued and that means it is available. That backordered indefinitely leaves them within the scope of the law. I am aware of another person who has waited 14 months for GM to make the part needed for her car.

I am having the same issue as everyone else here as far as the ignition not shutting off on my 2006 Saturn Ion. Thankfully (I guess), I have a manual transmission and was able to turn off the car by popping the clutch. I called GM and they were uncooperative. They would not tell me if the issue was being looked into by them. So, I called Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and filed a complaint. The number is 1-888-327-4236 (Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 8:00pm Eastern). It literally took me under five minutes. Its the only way that anyone will take any notice of this sort of thing. Can someone please help us resolve issues? We own a 2004 Saturn VIN #**. We had the transmission replaced in 9/3/2010 at 74,562 mileage. We paid $2,137.87 (invoice #**). My problem is that the transmission is out again and the car has 88,000 miles on it. Surely the transmission should last more than 13,500 miles? The transmission was replaced by Saturn of Fort Worth. We contacted them and they are no longer a Saturn dealer. Their phone number is (817)367-1000. Will this repair have a 36-month or 36,000 mile warranty? What are our options? Please advise.

My 2007 Saturn Aura XR with approx. 80,000 miles would not engage in gear. After towing it to transmission repair shop, was told it had essentially disintegrated and was completely shot. I have been reading hundreds of identical complaints with this model year transmission. When I emailed GM customer service, I was told my VIN was not part of this transmission recall. Many others were told the same thing yet its the same problem with this model year (The door was damaged when it rolled into a pole when I thought it was engaged in park). Repairs are in excess of $3,000 and with no Saturn parts available. Clearly a defect. There should be assistance with repairs. Seems US auto makers get a bailout yet consumers get screwed. I took it to several trusted mechanics who couldnt find any problem at all. Now as I am waiting for a potential employer to call me back about a job, I have no vehicle. My 3 vehicles were on the recall list. I currently have the Chevrolet and the other two cars were sold. During the first year of purchasing these vehicles, I incurred problems with each of them. The vehicles would sporadically start/stall on me and my son. We both experienced being stranded at work, in parking lots or while running errands. My son worked late hours and in the City of Detroit. He had to sit and wait for my husband to come from Commerce Township to W. 8 Mile-Detroit. Needless to say, those occurrences were frightening and very unsafe. On a number of occasions, my husband had to jump start the both of us.We replaced 3 batteries and that did not fix the problem. After towing the vehicles from repair shops to the dealership, the service dept. told me, the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero needed an ignition switch/cylinder and new key fob. The car worked fine after that. Then, I had to replace the ignition switch on the 2008 Saturn LS. The 2005 Chevrolet Impala was serviced upon the recall notice. My complaint is, I spent money for ignitions on both vehicles before the recall and General Motors denied my claim for reimbursement. There should be a class action suit for customers who experienced the same circumstance.

I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.

This is the fifth time a transmission has gone out on our 2004 Saturn Ion that we purchased brand new. The last one was a year and six months ago. They now refuse to fix it, only offering $5000 off a new GM vehicle if we surrender the car. Not only can we not afford a new car, but why would we want to purchase another GM vehicle when we have to fight them every time we need them to fix their mistake? We cannot trade in the vehicle for a used car because we cant get anything out of it with a broken transmission. Thats not fair for us since we didnt install the faulty variable transmission in all these vehicles. We suggested what we feel is fair: them buying the Saturn back with the Kelly Blue Book value. They refuse. They say they will not fix the car because it will continue to break (which again is their fault) and will only offer $5000 off so they can still make a profit out of us. We have had to fight them tooth and nail every time we needed the transmission fixed. All they care about is money. They have no problem selling faulty vehicles and then they dont stand behind them.

After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook
After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook, I am finally resolved to never purchase another GM product. Beginning around 60,000 miles, I began mentioning the popping sound in my steering column. Unfortunately, I did not insist the service department to document and pursue a resolution to the problem. I was told on every occasion that this was normal until the vehicle warmed up. The noise did seem to quiet somewhat, so I thought their assessment had some merit. I was just told this week that this issue would indeed worsen and my repair cost is approximately $1,300. This is in addition to my heater and A/C unit being completely overhauled to the sum of close to $600. I have already replaced both the skylight and sunroof at a significant cost. All these issues happened prior to 100,000 miles.I contacted GM customer service/Calvin to request assistance and was given no consideration at all, even with the internet full of TSBs and complaints about these exact problems on this vehicle. After this experience, I am completely disgusted with the pride in workmanship of this GM product and have a much better understanding of why GM should be out of business today. Unfortunately, we the taxpayers will get to continue carrying this burden for many more years to come. My total loss including glass, heat/AC and steering column is listed below. Never again!

I purchased 1995 Saturn with 63,000 miles in 2010. The car reached 75,000 miles on Dec 2011. The cylinder head cracked and needs to replaced for approximate cost of $2000.00. I am on my third Saturn. I dont have an Ion. I have a 2007 VUE. I owned two other cars prior to this. My first two Saturns, within the warranty period, had to have the ignition replaced because they jammed and I couldnt turn the key to start the car. My VUE made it past the warranty period, but now is jamming up the same way. Another quirk: I can start the car and pull the key out and drive without the key in. I have to be careful to turn the ignition all the way to off before I pull the key out or the battery will die if the radio or something else is left on. I fully expect, based upon my experience today of trying for about 10 minutes to unlock the ignition and turn the key, that there will soon come a point where I cant start it and will have to pay loads to have the ignition replaced. Yes, three Saturns...same problem. If GM wanted to really be about customer service, they would acknowledge this issue.

I had the ignition replaced and only two months later, it happened again. I took it in again and they told me they didnt see any problems with it. I took it home and now, we have programmed ourselves to leave the house 10-15 minutes earlier to make sure the car will start. Right now, at this very moment, my car will not start. It has not started at all today, I tried numerous times but nothing. When I turn the key, the security light flashes and the engine light comes on too. The dealership doesnt have any open appointments till Tuesday and now are down to one car. Starting tomorrow, I will get to wake my children up at 4am to take my husband to work in Roseville. Ridiculous! How can a dealership be able to stay in business selling faulty vehicles and never have to recall any of the major, not to mention, extremely dangerous problems? An attorney, class action lawsuit? Enough is enough. Maybe after that, then maybe GM will actually do their job and fix the problems that obviously exist.

I have a 2005 Vue with a standard transmission. Today, for the 5th time, I went to get into the car and the key would not go in the ignition. I called my old Saturn dealer (now Cadillac) and one of the techs told me to turn the wheel as far as I could to the right and then back to the left (then go back and forth with the wheel rocking it) until the steering column locked. Once that happened, I had to release the lever for the tilt feature on the steering wheel and jam it up and down as hard as I could in the hopes that the movement would realign the pins in the tumblers which would allow the key entry. When that still didnt help, I turned the locked steering column as hard as I could to the left and tried inserting the key. Success finally! I drove home from work. But when I got out of the car in the garage, I tried to reinsert the key again and the ignition would not accept it. So Im hoping I can repeat the above routine just so I can get to the dealer to have the entire assembly replaced. Quote is $325. This should not be happening. With all the reading I have done about GM moving so much of its operations to China, I dont think they really care about us leftover Saturn owners. Never again!

My 2000 Saturn LS now has 118,000 miles on it. 2 weeks ago it suddenly began emitting a very loud noise under the hood. It starts up immediately and drives smoothly, but when idling gets very loud. Took to mechanic. They thought maybe rocker arms had broken but they were fine. Could find no reason for the noise. They decided something must be sticking from built-up gunk so they replaced the Valve Cover Gasket, cleaned and put in some oil additive and let it run. The noise stopped, I picked the car up and it has been fine. Now 12 days later and only driven about 50 miles, it began the exact same thing, same noise, etc and it starts up immediately and drives smooth. But the noise is very loud when idling and I can hear a little bit of the noise when driving. I took it to the Mechanic this morning and left it. He did recommend a Power Steering Seal, and the output Shaft Seal has slow leak, but said it is not urgent to fix right now since I do not drive daily nor far. I see no leaks on the driveway. Any clue or suggestions on what could be causing this very loud noise? It does not overheat and oil pressure gauge indicates no problem. All fluid levels are fine and I just had an oil change and have only driven 1,000 miles since that was done. Help please!!

Key would not come out of the ignition. Could not shut car off and ran into the same issue. When I spoke with GM, they had never heard of this problem. After giving them my VIN #, I was told there were 2 to 3 recalls for my car but nothing for the ignition problem. The person from GM then got a GM dealer from Austin on the phone with me who proceeded to tell me if I bring it in for $115 they will hook it up to figure out what was wrong. I have got an estimate for approx $400 to fix it. I was told the ignition was about $60 but if the housing is bad that adds another $160, $50 for a new key and programming. Besides the fact that they have to be replaced with the same defective GM parts and that it can happen again at any time.

I’ve been waiting for an ECM computer for my 2001 Saturn lw300 for almost a year. My car has been in for repair waiting on this part since last February 2011. I was told that GM has to have an order for 50 before they would manufacture them. I can’t get a response from GM. I’ve been told that you have to have a new one because it has to be programmed for my VIN number. It’s too good of a car to just let it go. What should I do? Thank you.

I have been having the same issues as the rest of you with my 2004 Saturn Ion. I did have the key wont turn off the car problem after just a couple of years and got it fixed, supposedly something to do with the starter. It started doing it again not too long after it was fixed. It has continued to do it off and on. Key is stuck, wont turn car off. I play with the steering wheel and shift stick until it goes back into place and key will turn. Now today, it started letting me slip the key out of the ignition after I thought it was turned off, but car isnt off and now the doors are locked. The button to open the doors wont work. Literally you are locked in the car, save for the back doors manual opener. I had to climb out the back seat of my car tonight. I think the car is turned off, but guess I will find out in the morning. To top all of that off, the a/c wont work now and if I turn it on, it smells like my car is bursting into flames, so I have kept it off. From what I see here, I just need to find another car. It was a nice cheap car, so I thought, but so many things went wrong so quickly. I should have traded it back in. Rest of problems: power windows, Ive had 4 or 5 radios replaced, clock on car cant be changed, headlight recall. Good thing they dont make them any more, because I wouldnt buy one anyway. Now I am going to have to buy another car that I cant afford at this time.

Our 2009 Saturn Outlook ONLY has 53,000 miles on it. The 100,000 mile warranty was up because we have just barely had our vehicle 5 years. We have taken it to the same dealer for the life of the car, and taken very good care of it. I was driving to work the other day and my power steering and transmission completely went out. I almost lost control of the vehicle several times. It started when I was at a stoplight, when I pressed the gas to accelerate once it turned green, then my car lurched forward but only revved up. I made it work and then it wouldnt go in reverse at all!. I had it towed to a trusted mechanic. He told us it was indeed the transmission and power-steering but also that the rack and pinion broke. We had our car to the dealer several times for the whining noise to be fixed but they only ever told me they didnt hear the noise. I called GM, who told us to have it towed to a certified GM dealer and that the power steering should have been under a special coverage warranty. Turns out GM was sued and lost in court because of the power steering. The dealer then refused to diagnose my car without us paying them a $1,000 up front. I told them it had already been diagnosed, and if this was covered under their special warranty, then why on earth should I have to pay this large amount of money up front. The service manager told me he did NOT believe that our problem was covered under this special warranty and that the transmission doesnt go out because of the power steering. He said one doesnt have anything to do with the other. Well funny, then how they both went out at the exact same time. I went round and round with both the dealer and GM and neither of them want to take responsibility for what has happened. Especially considering we have documented proof (the dealer has it in their computers) that we had our car to them multiple times to have THIS exact issue fixed. I believe it is time to get another law suit started. GM needs to fix their faulty vehicles BEFORE someone gets severely hurt or dies! We had it towed a 3rd time to be taken care of by our mechanic since the dealer refused to diagnose our vehicle. Do not ever trust GM or their Certified dealers, all they care about is lining their pockets.

Bad Engine-Repair numerous times: I had my car repaired too many times for the life of the car from 2008. I need another car now. I need a lawyer to view the car repair lists from 3 months of purchase to current. Its awful and crazy. The dealer told me to walk away! I cant sell it; the check engine light is on and I still owe over $10,000. Where can I get a lawyer? My credit would be damaged. What can I do?

I have a 2003 Saturn Vue, which I purchased used in 2009. The transmission went out in 09 and I had to replace it. GM would only do 50/50 so I had to come up with over $2000 myself. I am now having problems with it again. It needs another replacement and I was told that the warranty on the first transmission was for 12,000 miles or one year so GM will not help with replacement. The only thing GM will do is give a small credit towards a new GM vehicle.

The timing chain broke and caused the valves to bend which means the car needs a new engine. It looks like this is a recurring problem with Vues. Our car has 105,00 miles on it. It seems to me that the company needs to make some kind of offer to remedy this issue since it happens so frequently on these products. In talking with many mechanics, this is the only car that has this problem.

If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. Call me a definite ex GM customer. They should be ashamed.

I have been complaining about an issue with my 2003 Saturn for just over 3 years. Each time I contacted GM they said that this issue was not a problem in Canada. I found numerous writings on the internet of owners having the same issue. Recently I was driving along when a warning sound came on and my message center lit up with the message PWR STR, the service engine warning light also became illuminated. This time I had a passenger in my car who witnessed how the car was a challenge for me to control and manage. I contacted 3 or 4 GM dealerships presented them with the letter of awareness I received from GM advising that I may experience this issue with my car, I was told they are not aware of the Power Steering issue and that I would need to pay for any repairs. I finally contacted GM and was told to take my car to a dealership and pay to have a diagnostic test completed and if it revealed that there was an issue with the Power Steering I would not have to pay the charge for the diagnostic test. As most people who have posted their complaint online have indicated that they have paid out large sums of money for repairs that did not resolve the issue. I was told by the dealership today November 14, 2011 that I needed to replace the Transmission Control Module @ a cost of $999.50 plus installation charge of $230.00 for a total of $1,413.93. I am posting this as I want to make sure that there is a public record should I be killed or left with injuries so severe that I cannot communicate, at least my family would be aware that this car was defective and GM did not make the necessary repairs.

I have a 2007 Saturn ION 3. Bought it used since my last one was such a good car. Had the recall ignition changed a few months ago. It is cold here today, very cold but we had below zero for WEEKS last year and my other Saturn started every morning (no garage but between other cars). I just went out there to warm it up, the steering is turned, like it got turned and locked up (which will happen from time to time). The normal trick is to turn the steering the best you can the direction it does go then turn the key.. NO LUCK.. Tried it for over 30 min. I put heat on the steering and heat on the Transmission stick area in the car just in case cold was an issue. NO LUCK. Ughhhhh I saw where trying to rock the car and try it.. and to try hooking up a jump just in case the battery is low due to electronic steering.. Do not think it is low but always worth a try. Now to even get this thing towed will be a task. The position and gears, steering, etc. is all locked.. Believe if someone wants to steal this car please do so. Quit putting all the anti crap on it LOL.. Not a fan of going to dealerships for repairs, but if it is the new recall ignition then it is covered but if not then $$$ at a dealership... Plus they can just tell me it was something else and lie.

I just had an experience where I could not turn the key backward to turn off. It was a very scary situation. I had to find someone to show me how to pull a fuse and then disconnect the ground cable to the battery so as not to run the battery down. The key is left in the on position. It looks like many people are dealing with this and I was told that this is a Saturn/GM issue. Has anyone found recourse to correct this very common occurrence with these vehicles?

Faulty wave plate 2009 saturn vue XE - This wave plate cracked at 140,000 miles costing me around $3,000 to replace my transmission. When I asked to speak with a manager I was transferred to what I believe was the exact same voice under a different name again stated they understood and could not honor my request. If you put a faulty part in a car it should be covered by the company. This car is six years old and the transmission should not fail if quality made.

Growing up we were always told not to buy American cars because their cars are built to fall apart just after the warranty is up. After decades of driving foreign cars with very few to no major issues, and shortly after the collapse of GM, we decided to support American made cars and help do our share. We bought a 15 month old lease return Saturn Outlook with 15,000 miles on it. The truck looked great and drove well for approximately 20 months to drop the kids off at school and do the local errands. Then, out of nowhere, the transmission went. Since the vehicle had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty, we werent too upset; however, when we towed the truck in for repair, the dealer told us the warranty had just expired 6 months prior so they wouldnt honor it and it would cost us close to $4000 to repair it through GM.Around that time we also started having airbag light issues where they were sometimes on, sometimes off. We had it looked at by GM and were told it was probably a dummy light issue and everything is fine. 1 year later we received a recall for the exact problem we had yet when we called to arrange a repair, we were told our Vin number is not part of the recall and not eligible for repair. After speaking with numerous people in GM over the next 10 months, someone in GM told us that there was going to be another airbag recall coming soon and that our Vin number would be included. To this day, no additional recall has been issued and we are told GM will not authorize a repair. This is ridiculous! I guess you have to die in a crash in order to get this company to do the right thing? We are having it looked at this week and will continue to fight for what shouldve been done from the start but have learned the lesson for good this time. At least to stay away from GM.

Unfortunately, I have purchased a 2003 Saturn Ion when they were brand new. It felt wrong from the beginning and it has only proven my instincts correct. Within one year, the steering has failed. It will cost $1,500+ to fix this problem. The windows do not roll up or down. The ignition has locked, another fix that has cost me $600. The wiper transmission has been replaced with the upgraded metal wiper transmission. The front airbags have failed. The gas gauge works when it feels like it. This car is better off as scrap. This car is crap! Saturn is one of the cheapest autos in history! Do not buy this vehicle or you will regret it just as I do every time I look at it. It makes my stomach turn to know that the makers of this cheap car were able to get away with selling a car to the public knowing that it is a death trap!

I own a 2006 Saturn Ion 2, original owner. I will say I did not have any major issues with my car until I got home, tried to turn off my car when the ignition would not turn leaving the car running. After several attempts, the key just came out with the ignition still running. I realized nothing would work, so I stalled the car, unplugged the battery and had it towed to a Saturn dealership. They supposedly replaced my ignition for $480 plus $140 for the tow. They said its been a common problem with this year, make, model and mileage but they havent recalled it yet. I truly hope that if enough people complain about it, they will issue the recall and we can all get reimbursed for our hard-earned money.

I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! It is also a safety issue when you have no idea when its suddenly going to break!

I have owned my 2001 Saturn L300 car for more than one year now. I never knew it will give me so many problems and I am not proud of the decision I made to buy this second hand car. Moment I bought the car I had to replace the serpentine belt, crankshaft sensor and muffler. I was also told by my service experts that it had issues with water pump and that is leaking and will break one day, which I thought I ignored for some time as I had already paid lot of money in repairs. After 3 months the battery started giving problems and had to replace the same and then the water pump started making noise which I had to fix. Meanwhile while I had battery problems, I didnt notice but apparently the ODOMETER went from 64000 miles to 694000 miles and stopped working at all. On further research, I found that this is a known issue in this car and Saturn had a recall organized some time back.
