Product Reviews:

I bought my Saturn Aura from a used dealership and couldnt have been happier with my choice. Ive had it for 3 years, just replaced the starter for the first time, gas is wonderful, smooth ride, wonderful seat warmers!!!! I absolutely love my car. The seats are that comfortable so it is great for long trips. I have lower back pain and have absolutely no problems with seats at all. I love the seat warmers, they heat up fairly quickly and its not just the seat it is the back as well. Super cozy for when it is cold outside. So the car sits kind of low and Im short so seeing over the dashboard can be an issue however not in this car, with the electric seat settings I can sit all the way up height wise and it brings me in closer so I can reach the pedals at the same time. I can even angle the seat some for my comfort. Several settings easy to adjust to what you like. The sunroof is absolutely amazing! I havent had any issues with leaks or mechanical. It is so wonderful to have the sunroof open and the windows down on a summers day. Gas mileage is pretty great too, it usually takes about 25-30 to fill up when gas is 2.25 The leather seats are genuine and very smooth. Feels and looks very high end. Very big windshield with huge view! I like to see out across a big windshield and boy this car is full view thankfully! I have owned it for 3 years now. The only thing that could improve would be to bring the car back and add back massagers to the seats. The plastic covers on the inside break off real easily too. Other than that like the old saying is whats not broke dont fix it and why should you.

I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.

This GM consumer is appalled that GM has chosen not to issue a recall, knowing the automatic CVT transmission in the Saturn Vue 4 cylinder vehicles are known by GM to totally fail while in operation. My Saturn Vue has 130,000 km on it and is sitting in my backyard unusable from transmission failure. GM has announced NO MORE CRAPPY CARS. Well what about our lives, and the safety of our families and love ones? GM received a lot of BAILOUT money literally from taxpayers, and this is how they are treating those people who put their lives in the hands of someone who obviously holds profit and shareholders interests above all else.

Like everyone else, the ignition lock failed on my 2007 Saturn Ion. Unlike everyone else, I was able to provide a reasonable, to me, solution for free. Simply remove the cover under the steering column. Disconnect the green wiring harness and the car shuts off. When you want to drive again, just plug it back in and turn the key. My car has been running this way for over a year. Good luck.

I mean, it is the same on both vehicles. I feel that GM should check and fix these cars - especially today. I am at work with a Saturn Ion that will not start back up and a Vue at home that wont start with two small children.

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue. Has 108,000 miles, RUNS GREAT, SHIFTS GREAT, DRIVES GREAT!!! But today I was under the car looking at it as I was changing the oil, and noticed the engine cradle was rusty and had little pinholes. So I tapped on it with a claw hammer and big holes came looking at me. Lucky, I can fabricate and weld very well. I wire wheeled the bad area and fabricated a piece of metal to fit the area. Then welded place and made a new plate for the 2 bolts where the back mount of the trans bolted up due to that was rusted out also...It is ok now. BUT SATURN NEEDS TO BUILD THE CRADLE OUT OF HEAVIER STEEL. VERY THIN AND POOR DESIGN FOR DIRT AND MUD TO GET IN THERE AND THEN RUST OUT.

We purchased our used 2007 Saturn Outlook in May 2009. The vehicle had its first leak in March 2010. We took the vehicle back to our original dealer, and they stated the original TSB/Recall worth that was done, did not get done appropriately. They redid the work. My vehicle has leaked 8 more times, and the new dealership (original Saturn closed) cannot locate the leak. I have a case with GM, and I am getting nowhere. GM does not appear to be taking any responsibility for their faulty vehicle. There are numerous complaints about this same issue online (i.e. **). I have documented every conversation/appointment I have had regarding this issue. My headliner and carpet are both ruined from all the rain that has soaked in. When it gets warm outside, my vehicle smells terribly. Im concerned about the potential health effects this may have on my family, if there is mold/mildew growing in the vehicle. I am also concerned about the probability of mechanical things malfunctioning, due to the rain getting it wet. I am disgusted with GM, and the way they are handling all of the leak issues with the many Outlooks produced. There should have been a recall placed on all of them way back when. I am disgusted.

I own a 2006 Saturn Ion with a little over 50,000 miles (purchased new). My key got stuck in the cylinder as well and the car would not stop running. I took my vehicle to a local auto shop and got the ignition lock cylinder replaced, OEM part 20869121. It was coded to accept my original key (no switch out). Total cost was $178. Time: 30 minutes of labor can take up to an 1 hour. To turn off my car when the incident occurred, I pulled four of the main switch plugs, two 30s and two 40s. They can be found under the hood. A black lid covers this area marked with a round red cap. The switches are easy to pull out and put back in. They help you avoid wearing down the battery or having to deal with it at all. I hope this helps.

My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone! This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?

I reached out to GM today after my second door jam mechanism failed and I see over 900 complaints lodged as such in this models year (2006 VUE). Despite the obvious safety issue I was told I was on my own. The door(s) eventually will not close as the jam mechanism fails so the door is subject to swinging open while the vehicle is in use. This is not an inexpensive fix and must be taken to a body shop. I will need all 4 door mechanisms replaced as I will not risk the other two failing as well.

I think Im going to kill myself from the financial downfall that this car has put me in. I owned it for 8 months (February 2011) and bought for $12,000. The first repair was rebuilding the transmission at $4000. Second repair was at $200 and it was for the battery that’s draining for no good reason. Third repair is for a bad celluloid and a bad fuel pressure sensor; cost is $675. I also have the problem with the steering wheel. I’m just waiting for that one to go next.$12,000 plus $4,000 plus $200 plus $675 for a total of $16,875. That’s the cost for a 2007 Saturn Aura with 65,000 miles on it and no warranty. I hate you GM. I will never buy one of your cars ever again. Tell everyone you know!

I purchased a 2007 Aura, and was told it was recently serviced after two weeks. I was told that the struts were shot in it, and its in need of new tires. I also had to change the brakes right away. The total cost would exceed $1,000.00. I was told by the dealership that the car was in great condition, nothing wrong with it. And the warning light that was on was an indication of low tire pressure. That light stayed on even after air was put into the tires.

2005 Saturn Ion 2: Along with my ignition switch failing, my power steering regularly going out while driving down the freeway, and my driver-side window not working, my key is now stuck in the on position with the car running. I popped the clutch to turn it off and disconnected the battery. I ordered a new ignition cylinder and plan to replace when it arrives. I agree with the majority of the community that there are far too many problems with particular parts for a recall not to be made. Im elated for the day I can rid myself of this car. Its been nothing but continual problems. My Honda on the other hand has nearly the same miles and not one problem in 5 years.

Its the same for me. I own a 2006 Saturn Ion where the ignition locked, and I couldnt stop my car. The only way to stop it was to stall it. It was 11 pm. No garage is open at that time. I made a complaint to GM. They called me and said to go to a dealer to see if its not related to the power steering because they have a recall on that and of course at my own expense. I already know that its not so its going to cost me over $100 just to confirm that sorry, its not related to that. They told me to call us back if its not and well see if we can help you. Im a single mom, I dont have $600 to get my car fixed because after reading all the reviews, it seem to be a very expensive repair. So please go on GM/Saturn and make a complaint. Maybe they will make recalls about it if everyone makes them aware of the problems because at first I called a few dealers and they all seem to be very surprised at this problem. No one has ever heard about this kind of problem.

I bought a GM Certified 2007 Saturn Aura in November of 2008. The vehicle had 14,500 miles on it when I purchased it. The car fax said there were no problems, other than a minor gasket, which was replaced at about 5,000 miles. I immediately went into the dealership for wheel imbalance problems, that the dealership never did satisfactorily fix. My own mechanic later told me he found a bent rim on one wheel right away, when he replaced the tires. The brake pads broke at 15,000 miles, and the seat back airbag housing fell apart at 16,000 miles (no one sits in my back seat). Both door speakers were replaced by 16,000 miles, and I am not a teenager. It was in the shop for steering noise and vibration problems, on three separate times. The new oil pan gasket was done at 16,500 miles. The washer fluid pump failed at 37,000 miles, and the final problem after 4 years at 45,000 miles, the head gasket failed. Most of these things were taken care of under warranty, but the sheer time it takes to wade through all of these problems is not worth it to drive American.I am a GM brat, and this will be the last vehicle that I purchase from them. This is the worst vehicle that I have had, since my 1984 Renault Alliance. I owe more than the dumb thing is worth, so I have no choice but to keep my fingers crossed, and hope that it lasts until I pay it off. 2007 was the first model year for the Aura, but GM had been making the Opel equivalent for at least two years before. You think they would have worked the bugs out, before they brought it to the US.

After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook
After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook, I am finally resolved to never purchase another GM product. Beginning around 60,000 miles, I began mentioning the popping sound in my steering column. Unfortunately, I did not insist the service department to document and pursue a resolution to the problem. I was told on every occasion that this was normal until the vehicle warmed up. The noise did seem to quiet somewhat, so I thought their assessment had some merit. I was just told this week that this issue would indeed worsen and my repair cost is approximately $1,300. This is in addition to my heater and A/C unit being completely overhauled to the sum of close to $600. I have already replaced both the skylight and sunroof at a significant cost. All these issues happened prior to 100,000 miles.I contacted GM customer service/Calvin to request assistance and was given no consideration at all, even with the internet full of TSBs and complaints about these exact problems on this vehicle. After this experience, I am completely disgusted with the pride in workmanship of this GM product and have a much better understanding of why GM should be out of business today. Unfortunately, we the taxpayers will get to continue carrying this burden for many more years to come. My total loss including glass, heat/AC and steering column is listed below. Never again!

I have a 2004 Saturn Vue with 90,000 miles. This vehicle was purchased used in 2004 with only 12,000 miles. The other day, as I was using the On-ramp to gather speed to enter I-70, my transmission suddenly started shuddering and the vehicle lost its ability to propel forward. I was almost slammed from behind by a vehicle travelling at 65mph. The sudden deceleration put my life and the life of others at risk. I have always completed my regularly scheduled maintenance, and this is the first time I had experienced a transmission issue in this vehicle.I am appalled at the lack of accountability on the part of GM. On April 16, 2009, GM agreed to a class action settlement concerning widespread issues with the 2002-2005 Saturn Vue and 2003-2004 Saturn Ion VTi (CVT) transmissions. Basically, they admitted there is a serious defect with the transmissions, BUT HAVE NOT FULFILLED THE TERMS OF THE SETTLEMENT, ARE NOT COVERING THE COST OF REPAIRS AS DESIGNATED IN THE SETTLEMENT, AND HAVE NOT NOTIFIED VEHICLE OWNERS OF ITS EXISTENCE. From what I can gather, GM skated out of fulfilling their end of the settlement due to filing for bankruptcy protection. I had to really dig to find any pertinent information regarding this class action lawsuit. If you would like more information, check out ** for more information regarding the suit. It may be time to reignite the fire behind this issue, and potentially save some lives.

I called AAA, and the rep who was dispatched asked if it was a Saturn Ion (its a 2007 Ion with about 65K miles on it), which was interesting to me. He said my best bet was just to take it right to the dealership. When I parked it outside the GM dealership and went in to explain the problem, they too asked if it was a Saturn. Clearly this problem is more wide-spread than I thought. Both the AAA rep and the mechanics at the dealership are aware this is an issue with Saturn vehicles. At the end of the day, theyre replacing the Ignition lock cylinder and housing for $540. I called GM/Saturn to file a complaint, seeing as everyone seems to know this is an issue and there are hundreds of documented cases on this site alone. Havent had any major problems over the last 6 years but I was driving the other day and after stopping at a stop sign the car wouldnt move. I shut the engine off and started it again and out it in drive and it went about 50 feet before going back into neutral on its own. Cannot get it to drive. It has been towed to a Chevy dealer 40 miles away and we are waiting to hear. Of course there is no warranty anymore. Time for a Ford? This is ridiculous from all the comments I have read with people having transmission problems with their Saturn Vue. Why doesnt GM address this? Too many other recalls?

The CVT transmission started losing fluid. No idea where the fluid was going because there was no leak. I took it to the dealership and they advised flushing transmission so we did. Now I think 6 months later after repeatedly having to add transmission fluid to a closed system that supposedly never needs transmission fluid and not to mention you have to use a special transmission fluid not the over the counter stuff, the transmission has gone completely out. Oh, and did I forget to mention the recall notice that said we didnt qualify because we had too many miles on the car. What? You put a faulty transmission in a vehicle that I purchased and you are going to tell me I have too many miles on it to qualify for the transmission to be replaced even though it was faulty to begin with? Now I am stuck with a car that doesnt move and I have to pay a loan on a car that doesnt move. The transmission costs more to fix than the cars worth.

On 06/13/2014 after coming down a steep hill, car would not down shift. Once the car did down shift, came to a stoplight and car began a jerking motion. When tried to drive the car, it started a grinding noise. Once I got the car to a parking lot it would not move in any gear not even into manual mode. Once it was at the GM dealer I was told that it was suggested that I get a new transmission at the cost of $4500.00 - not going to happen. I called the GM headquarters and set up a claim to see if it is under recall. I am in on the lawsuit.

I have loved my 2004 Saturn Ion, bought it in August 2009 with 80k, and now June 2013 146k. No problems up to last month. But now when I put the key in, it wont even turn to the right. My sister and I have figured out that if you take your time to push up and to the right, about the 10th attempt it turns to the right and starts... SUPER ANNOYING! Reading these other reviews makes me want to quickly trade it in! So sad because I have loved not having a payment! :(

I have under 50,000 miles on my Saturn and yesterday, without warning, the transmission quit. Will not move in any gear. I have an estimate to repair of 3,600 dollars from a dealer. This has been an ongoing with Saturns as I am learning. I really feel cheated by Chevy. It is time for someone in this company to step up to the plate. I love my car. I would think twice now about buying any Chevy product.

Yesterday, our 2001 Saturn L series just stopped running in the middle of traffic. It was towed to our mechanic only to find out today that the timing chain had broken and damaged the engine. He told us it was a common problem with Saturns. We never received an apparent recall in 2008 so does anyone know if GM will repair this problem for free or are we on our own?

We bought our 2008 Saturn Outlook brand new six years ago as a means to travel on family vacations and have never had a problem with it until now. Weve maintained our Outlook by doing all the right things. On the way back from our family road trip in May, we noticed a knocking sound that seemed to go away once we made it back home. Subsequent to arriving home, we got a phone call from a GM dealer, asking us if we may want to trade in the Outlook for something else (something we had been thinking about anyway). On the way to the dealership, the knocking noise came back! The dealer indicated that the Outlook could not be traded due to a possible transmission problem. Well, we took it into the dealership later that week for diagnostic/service. It was diagnosed with reverse wave plate failure (estimated cost: $3,029); possible rear cat converter problem (est. cost $712). We later took to a transmission specialist who looked it over and determined it didnt have a transmission problem and they couldnt hear the noise. However, after putting it on the road, they noticed the noise and the shifting problem and quoted a repair cost of $3,000+. We went to pick up the truck to bring it back home and it could not shift in reverse! With the help of the service men, we had to push the truck in reverse to get off the lot only to realize that it would not go forward (in speed) more than 30 miles! The truck is dead! We do not have this kind of money laying around; and with 120 k miles on the Outlook, it just doesnt seem worth it to pay for a repaired transmission and definitely not a new one at $4,034!! This is so unfortunate; because we really enjoyed our Outlook. Now were faced with hard decisions to make, while in the meantime having to deal with the inconveniences of driving one car - a 2005 Hyundai Elantra that we also bought brand new and has never given us any serious mechanical problems. I wonder where we will purchase our next vacation SUV. Buyers beware. We feel like weve been set up to be let down. Our Outlook is in great exterior/interior condition and has never been involved in an accident. Were willing to be part of a class action suit.

My 2006 Saturn Ion with only 43,500 miles on it would not start because of not being able to turn the key. I had to be towed to the GM dealer. They replaced the ignition housing and cylinder at the cost of $413.00. Its still acting up somewhat when I try to turn the key, it seem to stick somewhat. I just hope it keeps starting the car. After reading all the complaints about the same problem, I think its about time there was a recall on this problem. I am going to call the consumer affairs department of Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, I found this number online. I hope everyone who reads this also calls this same number.

I took my 2006 Saturn Vue to Larry Green dealership for simple diagnosis. 2 hours later, I found out that they ran a compression test with the cover off of my timing belt. The belt slipped and bent the valves. This was the beginning of all my major problems. They kept the car for 2 months trying to correct their mistakes. I got the car back and it was never the same. I took it back 2 times, then I didnt see my car for 3 more months, getting the runaround about parts. There were several mechanics working on my car within those months that are now no longer there. I finally got my car back, after they ruined it telling me to go to another GM dealer to have them fix what they couldnt. This car was a great car with 65,000 miles, not even 5 years old, and I am still paying for it at the tune of $29,000. The body and interior are still like new. I take very good care of my vehicles and I have had a Saturn for 21 years.

My wifes 2008 Saturn Vue has 65000 miles on it. Less than a year out of warranty and without warning, the transmission started to slip. I was told by the transmission repair shop that the transmission would need to be repaired at a cost of $3000.00. The shop said there is a snap ring in these transmissions that is a common point of failure. I would estimate this is a $20.00 part at best. Why would GM continue to put cars on the market when they know there are issues with them? It appears this issue has been know about since at least 2005 and continues to 2010 based on my internet research. I feel GM has a responsibility to current Saturn owners and should recall these vehicles and make all those that have already failed eligible for restitution. I have been a lifelong GM owner but I have to say this one may be my last. If you are thinking about buying GM, I say stay away from them.

My Saturn was purchased used with 49k on it at a Saturn dealership as a certified pre-owned vehicle. That was 13.5 years ago in 2000, to now currently Aug 2014. I have replace brakes in it twice on the front, once on the rear. I forgot how many sets of tires I have had on it. At 90k I put on a new set of struts totally making the ride awesome and feeling like a new car. I have hit 2 deer and 1 deer has ran into the side of the car. The deer collisions I was able to almost stop before hitting them. The shroud that runs under the car for the A/C cooling is now gone because of that. The result is that the A/C does not work super great unless the car is moving in a forward motion. Just sitting in the hot sun at idle with the cooling fan running though the A/C will blow out the vents at about 47 deg. F. It goes down to 40 deg. while rolling down the road. To me this is satisfactory as I dont sit idle for long. Also during the deer collisions the A/C condenser was bent so it almost touches the radiator, it did not leak so Im not messing with it. I installed an hour meter into the vehicle and change my oil every 125 hours. This usually works out to about 3200-4700 miles. It started to use a quart of oil about every oil change when the car had about 165k on it. I then switched from Castrol conventional oil to Castrol High Mileage. Now it uses about a 1/4 quart every oil change. I have noticed that it uses more oil in town than if I cruise down the highway. Also most of the miles I have put on the car are highway miles. I flushed/replaced coolant, replaced the outer tie rod ends not because of wear but because the rubber seal started to crack at 182k. I have had to put on a new catalytic converter at about 88k, replaced the muffler and rear pipe section at 182k. Replace manual trans fluid at 100k and at 182k. Have replace the fuel filter 2 times (should have done this more often). It has 30k on the newest filter so will change it soon. I replace the air filter about every 15k depending on the roads I drive on. Everyone I know says to give them my old air filter because I change them so often. I dont mind, I believe that a good supply of air is the key to the 37-42 mpg on hwy and 27-30 mpg city. Saturn of SLC said the ECTS had to be replaced when the car was replaced at 88k. I have had to replace it one additional time at 160k. When it is really cold outside the engine will idle high when stopping until sitting for a few seconds. Im not replacing the ECTS again as I think this is a normal Saturn thing at really cold temperatures. Also while at Saturn of SLC, they told me that my fuel pump was bad and would replace it for $800. All that is wrong is the check valve is bad. If the key is turned to run then wait about 5 seconds, the fuel pump will bring the system up to pressure and the car starts great. Only problems I have is if someone else uses my car, they get in and turn the key to start right away and it cranks but does not start because of the lack of fuel. To me this is not an issue as every vehicle I have ever owned I turn the key to run, listen for the fuel pump to stop then start. So to save $800 all one has to do is this. 1 get into vehicle, 2 insert key and turn to run, 3 fasten seat belt, 4 start the vehicle. It will be up to pressure by time the seat belt is put on. Oh, and one more thing, the windshield in this car is awesome. I have had some large size rocks fall off trucks and hit the window directly. The angle is just right that they bounce over the car. Mine is pitted from many miles of highway driving but still satisfactory. The other day 205k, it was really hot in the car. I went to shift into reverse, the plastic shifter bushing broke. I was told this usually breaks around 70k so I carried an extra in the glove box. It is made by Dorman ($4). Also the other day my A/C evaporator drain plugged up 205k, easy fix, take an ink pen and stick it in the drain hole, the system drains fine now. That sums up the history of my Saturn for the 157k that I have owned it.I have also owned a 1991 Saturn SL1 Manual trans had an alternator issue at around 7k and was covered by warranty/recall. The starter went bad at 12k. Changed the oil every 3000 miles then at 64k the ex took it in the divorce. No known other issues. A 2004 ION3 Coupe Auto trans. Had a power module go bad at 65k. Dont remember the resolution. Lost the car to another ex. Moms car, a 1998 Saturn SL1, clutch master cyl went bad at 118k. No other known issues. She gave it to brother and he sold it because money burns hole in his pockets.Moms car, a 2001 Saturn SC2 manual trans - she changes oil when the dash light tells her to. I did replace the trans fluid for her in it. Around 50k starter went bad. Re-manufactured started installed and that one went bad at 88k. Replaced again under starter warranty oreilly auto parts. Replaced and brother has the car. He called and said there is a exhaust leak around exhaust manifold 93k. I have not looked at it but to me this is a minor issue. Note, this car has almost all miles city driving to the bank or store and back which are VERY HARD on the car. I hope that I helped someone out with this review.

My wife has a 05 Saturn Vue, the engine blew up whilst driving home from work. No check engine light, no warning at all. The car lost power steering but luckily no accident. I called GM customer service and told them what happened and they said car needed to go to a dealer to be looked at... They arranged for it to be taken to local dealer. The dealer said engine was gone. I called GM back and asked them what they were planning to do and was told they would do nothing again. I explained that it could have killed my wife and that surely there should have been a warning of some description...I was passed around from person to person sitting on hold for 37 mins to speak to a supervisor. When he got on the phone he muttered something and transferred me again. So I called the headquarters in Detroit and got pretty much the same response. I now have a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. I even had to fight them to get my car towed back to my house (there was more bad cust service but too much to mention). So this bears as much as a warning to all Saturn drivers. BE CAREFUL, THEY BLOW UP WITHOUT WARNING AND GM DONT CARE!!!!!

I just refinanced my moms 2008 Saturn Vue after she passed away - only 55K miles and the transmission just went out due to a confirmed broken wave plate and the metal went into the transmission. It is currently at the shop and I am waiting to hear the final cost to get it fixed. There are many people with the same issue and GM is not recalling this KNOWN problem. For the past 12 months I have been experiencing some starting problem with my 2005 Saturn Ion. Sometimes, I put the key in the ignition and turn it and the car does not start. However, after taking the key out and waiting between 7 and 10 minutes and trying to start, it starts without any problem. As mentioned, this problem has been going on for the past 12 months. So today, after reading some of the blogs and a posted phone number (**), I decided to call, the lady answering the phone was very polite and helpful. She called a buick dealership and got the service person on the phone. I asked this person if he had ever heard of this problem and he acknowledged that he did not. But after pressing further, he admitted that he had heard of this problem but need the car to further troubleshoot the problem and that they will charge a fee to do.Ill wait and see what happens. I am not ready to contact an attorney yet.

Now, I cant get the key to come out of the ignition. I have had numerous people look at this. They have checked the fuses, tried the shifting lever, but to no help in getting it out.I have a child that I take to school and I am afraid I wont be able to get her there on time, also to get her home. Why doesnt anyone fix this? I am on low income as I have not been able to work and have no money to stick into this car. This piece of junk has been nothing but a pain since I bought it, which I didnt want to do in the first place but was talked into by an elder salesman saying this would be a good car for me. Ha! I ransomed my 2005 Saturn Ion this morning from the local Chevy dealers service department. For the second time in less than 18 months, I had to have the ignition lock cylinder, etc. replaced. The problem was identical to others previously listed on this site. The key was stuck in the on position with the car running. I had to disconnect the battery and stall (manual transmission) the engine. In each occurrence, the repair cost well in excess of four hundred dollars. Add the rental car, and the cost approaches a thousand dollars for the two repairs. On a positive note, I see that the dealer used the replacement lock cylinder 20869121 that Frank of Toronto, ON recommended. Although I dont have access to the actual technical service bulletins, I found one listed for Saturn Ion entitled 05-08-49-006 FEB 05 Ignition Switch - Key Hard to Insert/Wont Rotate and another 05-02-35-007A OCT 06 Ignition - Inadvertent Turning of Ignition Lock Cylinder. The cashier this morning said that the problem is related to too much weight on the key ring. I dont think the three keys on my ring qualify. Rather, I think it is the quality of the genuine GM parts.

I love this Saturn, shes 2008 Saturn Aura. This is a wonderful car. It has all the things that you need including air conditioning, Heat, great radio comfortable seats, cruise control, large back seat, large trunk, its well-made and easily maintained. It gets decent gas mileage and Ive driven it for over a hundred twenty thousand miles and were still going strong. But the drivers seat is hard to get just ride in terms of distance from the gas pedal and distance from the steering wheel so that youre not up on the wheel but you have some ability to be somewhat back, the rear view mirror never seems to quite be where it needs to be, and it doesnt always have the most energetic get-up-and-go of any car Ive ever owned.

My 2003 VUE (3.0) hit the 100K threshold a few months back. I noticed increasing delay in starting, so decided to change out plugs with iridium ones. Ran great following new plug job. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a few trouble codes causing my Check Engine light to come on. First was for Cam Shaft Position Sensor, and second was for low temp sensor. After ruling out fuses, faulty connectors, etc., I decided to replace the Cam Sensor (easy), and thermostat (especially since it had never been done). When I finally finished the job, the car wouldnt start (turned over though). I pulled my hair out for weeks looking for reason for not starting. Had mobile mechanic come out, and could only tell me it sounded like compression loss and/or timing problem. Finally had it towed to shop. Their diagnosis was a skipped timing belt (4 teeth), which caused a few valves to bend etc, etc... Now I am looking at $3000 to $3500 to fix the problem (I hope). I replaced the water pump and timing belt a few ago and drove it without a problem until what I thought was routing thermostat replacement - boy was I wrong. The cost to repair is about $2K less than getting a rebuilt engine, but is still at that grey point between getting work done or not. The optimist in me is hoping for another 100K miles after all is said and done. Not too happy with GM at the moment. Parts cost an arm and leg since Saturn is no longer produced. Hope it works out in the end.

After decades of driving foreign cars with very few to no major issues, and shortly after the collapse of GM, we decided to support American made cars and help do our share. We bought a 15 month old lease return Saturn Outlook with 15,000 miles on it. The truck looked great and drove well for approximately 20 months to drop the kids off at school and do the local errands. Then, out of nowhere, the transmission went. Since the vehicle had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty, we werent too upset; however, when we towed the truck in for repair, the dealer told us the warranty had just expired 6 months prior so they wouldnt honor it and it would cost us close to $4000 to repair it through GM.Around that time we also started having airbag light issues where they were sometimes on, sometimes off. We had it looked at by GM and were told it was probably a dummy light issue and everything is fine. 1 year later we received a recall for the exact problem we had yet when we called to arrange a repair, we were told our Vin number is not part of the recall and not eligible for repair. After speaking with numerous people in GM over the next 10 months, someone in GM told us that there was going to be another airbag recall coming soon and that our Vin number would be included. To this day, no additional recall has been issued and we are told GM will not authorize a repair. This is ridiculous! I guess you have to die in a crash in order to get this company to do the right thing? We are having it looked at this week and will continue to fight for what shouldve been done from the start but have learned the lesson for good this time. At least to stay away from GM.

A couple months ago, I was driving with my 3 kids in the car when I came to a stop light. Once it turned green, I pushed on the accelerator and nothing happened, except the RPMs revved up high, but I was going maybe 10 mph. I was less than a mile from home, so we made it safely, but when I went to pull in driveway it almost stopped completely and then realized it didnt reverse at all! The next day it was fine. A few months later now, the engine light comes on and off as it pleases, and as we are driving the car will give a jolt and just drop the speed, all while rpms go higher. I am so terrified that we are going to get into an accident!! I cant believe there has been no recall on this when there are literally hundreds of people with this problem! My husband was recently let go at his job so we cannot afford a new transmission, which I hear is costing around $3500!! I have always had Saturns and never had any major problems with the others until this one. Its such a safety issue that with all the recalls that GM is doing, it baffles me that this one hasnt been done yet.

Me and my girlfriend bought a 09 Saturn aura from love Chevrolet in Columbia South Carolina, it had 52,000 miles on it. First day at the lot, the car wouldnt start. They said it sat for a while, it just needed a jump. A day later we were sitting onside of the road. Within 1 month I took this car back to the lot 6 times to be fixed for different things but for a long time they wouldnt replace the battery then the tire rod then the water pump, the OnStar went out. Then right at 100,000 miles the transmission went out. After a year, it is fixed. Then as soon as we get the car back the vents for ac and heat went out. Somehow they started working again but the heat stopped working and its been out for about a year now. If we got rid of the car we would have lost out because we did a trade in, they gave us so much lie about fixing this car. We didnt know what to do but keep this hunk of junk. We owe 4000 on this car but its not worth 400. What should we do? Oh and from day one it had bad alignment, its not worth the trouble. Saturn Aura, you have to do better.

If your daughter almost got killed by a product, you would also be angry. I am embarrassed for GM, especially since I could be considered part of the family. I have owned several Corvettes, a Camaro, several Tahoes, I currently drive a Cadillac, etc. Additionally, my brother in law worked for GM over 40 years and my father in law over 50 years. My daughter lost control of her Saturn while doing nothing wrong, totaled it and almost got killed. That was Thanksgiving weekend. The car got totaled. It was inspected, but GM has been 100 percent non-responsive regarding a car that failed through the fault of no one and they dont care. I am blessed my daughter is still alive. Call me a definite ex GM customer. They should be ashamed.

I also have trouble getting the ignition to unlock from the column either to put the key in to start and mostly to get it out of the switch. I have to use a screw driver to push a button so I can remove the key. The running of the car just started to happen but I have been dealing with the bad ignition problem for some time.

I have never had to pay to get my vehicles key code after supplying proper ID of ownership. Neither my parents or I ever received an amended handbook notifying us of additional fees for key code access. Geesh, I pay less to use the internet for 3 months.

The car had 80,000 miles but was in excellent condition. The key switch did stick occasionally, we were told to get another key made. I told them if I have a problem with this, I expect them to fix it at their expense. All they said was, if it fails within the 30 day warranty they will replace it. The switch is now locked up. I get the bill. What crap. Saturn should be held liable for using known defective switches.

Bought my 03 Saturn wagon 5 years ago. Engine light stays on 3 years now. Clears out with mechanic. Get it to pass inspection. Light comes back on. Horn died, trunk lock had to be replaced, eats tires and sway bars like crazy. Put new brakes every year. Everything rusted underneath. New manifold. Needed catalytic converter twice. Now I just cant put any more funds into this car. Seeking a different vehicle now. Only has 167,000 miles. I drove a 96 Subaru wagon into the ground. It had over 200,000 miles and still ran awesome. It was the body that finally gave out. Disappointed in the many needed repairs. Doesnt shift out of first without struggling either. The clock gains a minute every couple weeks.

I love my car (2005 Saturn ION coupe)! However, as the weather warmed up, my key would not come out of the ignition. I looked up how much it would cost to fix this and the price was outrageous. As with the other comments, why is this not a recall item? You cant get out of the car unless you have the presence of mind to hit the door lock, which may be difficult as we have been programmed to find the door unlocked when the ignition is turned off. Cheap temporary fix: under the steering column is a small diamond-shaped cover and I popped it off and pressed my thumb on a switch on the left-hand side (switch has spongy feeling - and a little greasy) and turned the key at the same time. No problem. This is temporary and will not stop the key from getting stuck again, but Id rather be inconvenienced a bit than pay out the nose for something that is well documented and should be fixed by a recall.

I have an ‘05 Saturn ION and the ignition cylinder has been nothing but problematic. Ive had the problem where the key gets stuck in the ignition while it’s running and cannot be turned off. This has happened three separate times. The first time was fixed under warranty. The second time was a little over a year ago and just recently, it happened again. The thing is, if you are getting it replaced, make sure that the cylinder is replaced with GM Part # 20869121 which is a newly designed cylinder used in other GM cars.I dont know if the technical bulletins for the ION have been updated to address this. But if they havent, do not let the dealer use the defectively designed Saturn OEM part because you will just have the same issue in the future. My recently repaired car uses the new GM part, so Im hopeful that this will be the end of the problem. You can tell the difference between the two parts because the old OEM part has sort of a dull metal finish which can be seen around the key hole when its installed, while the newer part appears shinier.

On January 4, 2012, I tried to start my car and it would not start. On the first incident, I had it towed to Firestone who has done all the work on my Saturn 2005 Ion 3 since the warranty expired. The steering wheel column had to be removed to get the key out of the ignition and the battery was replaced. On the second incident, I had it towed again to Firestone. The mechanic was able to start it. He began to research problems with Saturns and found the ignition problem. He advised me to take it to Saturn for an ignition replacement.

I own a Saturn Ion level 2, and today, my car got stuck in the on position. I could not get the key out or shut the car off. I had to take the neg wire from battery to shut things down, but the key is still in the ignition switch. What is going to be done for all of us that owns this car? And in this economy where it is sink or swim, eat or die, now we all have to worry about this problem which is very costly. Who is going to help us all out? There are a whole lot of people with the same problem, so obviously, there is a major problem here with our cars. Someone has to take some action for us. Who is going to help us? Do I have to keep putting the neg wire back on just to drive, take it off to shut it off? Come on. Someone somewhere must be in position to take this problem on because like myself and others, we are all spent out and cannot keep paying for a problem that is a problem with the manufacturing of this car! So, can anyone tell me where to start and how to fix this bucket of plastic? Class action suit. seems to me, should happen but they are no longer in business, so who do you sue? Not to mention, I still owe 2 years of payments on this car. Wow! They said it is the ignition lock cylinder but it comes with no key. So how the heck do you start your car if you get a new one? Does anyone know what to do? Help!

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion and, like others on here, I have experienced my key getting stuck in the ignition. They pointed me to a Sears mechanic in the area and the gentleman there was extremely helpful, but because I was on vacation and needed to have the car to get home, they were only able to offer a temporary fix for the problem, which was to unplug the battery and remove the fuse to force the car to shut off. My 2005 Saturn Vue auto transmission started slipping and banging after about 3 years. I was in fear of a major repair bill. I received a letter in the mail from GM stating that the 2005 Vue transmission was being recalled due to faulty assembly. I was instructed to take the car to the Saturn dealer. If I had already repaired my transmission, I was supposed to submit receipts for reimbursement of repair cost up to $3000. I took it to the dealer and they found the transmission was faulty and was covered under the recall. The dealer installed a new transmission at no cost to me. The limitation was the car had to be 5 years old or less and/or certain amount of mileage. Check the Chevrolet dealer who should be able to research this for you. Hope it helps.

I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. The GM rep referred me back to the dealership. The dealership told me that there is no other option. Ive had this car now for about 9 mos. Its been a pretty good car until the last 2 weeks. The a/c was the 1st to go out (when I 1st got it). I had everything replaced, then about 2 mos. later, the a/c went out again. So, 2 weeks ago, the stereo stopped playing, it says to check the wiring. In the past week, all these new things started. I now smell gas fumes, when we hit the door locks, the headlights go out and back on. Last night, I put the car in reverse, and the lights went out and back on. Sometimes, when I put it in reverse, the gas gauge drops from 1/2 tank to empty. Other times, after refueling, I leave the pump with the empty gas light on. I make sure the gas cap is on tight before I leave the station. Two days now, the security light comes on, so today, I replaced the battery in the wireless remote, and stopped @ Autozone to have the cars battery checked & it is fine. A few months ago, I was having a problem with the car stalling out when I backed up, but after hearing about the ignition switch recall & GM, I tried something that works. I took the key off my keyring. There are no other keys on it, the added weight of a few other keys, was messing with the ignition switch. Im pretty sure my problem is with some loose wiring, I read that with the Saturn, the a/c condenser hose pops off, and read theres no hope for the gas smell. I just pray the car doesnt go up in flames. Oh, and have had a few problems with the tail lights too. And a few weeks ago, I couldnt get the trunk lock to catch after checking the problem with the brake/tall-light problem. I didnt know until today that Saturn is a GM product, cause I promise you had I known, I would never have bought it. Ford held their own, GM bailed out.

I loved my Saturn until now. The first thing that it started doing was the oil pressure light came on saying oil pressure low, turn engine off. I pulled over and turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Message was gone. Then a couple days later the stabilitrak error message came up saying traction control off service stabilitrak. Engine speed decreasing. Couldnt go above 20 mph. Turned car off. Restarted car error message gone. Then transmission started slipping until it wouldnt go out of 2nd gear. Took the car to the shop and 4000.00 dollars later the transmission was replaced. Now one week later, the stabilitrak message came back on while driving home today and in a curve the steering wheel locked up. This car is horrible. I have never had this many problems out of a car before. Back to the shop where Im sure I will have to break the bank. Again! Saturn needs to make a recall on these cars. I have been complaining about an issue with my 2003 Saturn for just over 3 years. Each time I contacted GM they said that this issue was not a problem in Canada. I found numerous writings on the internet of owners having the same issue. Recently I was driving along when a warning sound came on and my message center lit up with the message PWR STR, the service engine warning light also became illuminated. This time I had a passenger in my car who witnessed how the car was a challenge for me to control and manage. I contacted 3 or 4 GM dealerships presented them with the letter of awareness I received from GM advising that I may experience this issue with my car, I was told they are not aware of the Power Steering issue and that I would need to pay for any repairs. I finally contacted GM and was told to take my car to a dealership and pay to have a diagnostic test completed and if it revealed that there was an issue with the Power Steering I would not have to pay the charge for the diagnostic test. As most people who have posted their complaint online have indicated that they have paid out large sums of money for repairs that did not resolve the issue. I was told by the dealership today November 14, 2011 that I needed to replace the Transmission Control Module @ a cost of $999.50 plus installation charge of $230.00 for a total of $1,413.93. I am posting this as I want to make sure that there is a public record should I be killed or left with injuries so severe that I cannot communicate, at least my family would be aware that this car was defective and GM did not make the necessary repairs.
