And the service engine like that throws the camshaft positioning sensor code that it doesnt have but did replace crankshaft pos sensor to be safe and timing chain. Headers and cold air intake have helped it immensely now getting 28 mpg in town but the body control module is bad from being side swiped and now have to start in neutral or it wont shift from park go gm and your pos vehicles instead of bailing them out we should have decided the bail out between Toyota ford and dodge and said merry Christmas.

2007 Ion key problem - Ever since I brought my car in for power steering recall, I have had a problem with getting the key out. I brought it back three times. They replaced something in the shifter, then claimed I wasnt putting it all the way in park. Really? They replaced the ignition switch and the keys. I still have a problem. I find if I have my steering wheel turned just right, it relieves pressure and I can get it out. You can often see me moving from parking spot to parking spot trying to get my wheel just right. Another Saturn owner told me there is a button release under the steering wheel behind a trap door that I can press to release the key. I have yet to do that. I am not a happy camper.

I am at work with a Saturn Ion that will not start back up and a Vue at home that wont start with two small children.

I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue XR on July 7, 2011. On September 2, 2011, smoke started coming through the vents with a strong smell like something was burning. It went away and didnt return for the rest of the day. Well, I didnt drive it for the rest of the day actually. On September 3rd and 4th, it did the same thing while I was driving and became worse if I turned the air conditioner on. Not even two months after purchasing this vehicle, and already the vehicles first trip at the shop on September 5, 2011. The mechanic explained that the hose for heating/air was cleared of any blockage. On September 9, 2011, I had to return it to the shop for the same problem. They gave me an oil change and checked the hose. There was no vapor/mist coming out of the vents for 2 days. The third trip to the shop was on September 16, 2011 for the same issues; strong coolant smell, vapor or mist coming out of the vents, and oily film on the windshield. On September 9th, I called and filed a complaint with Saturn customer service. I was told to take it to a GM certified dealer and have them diagnose the problem. My appointment was on September 23, 2011 at Mike Anderson in Merrillville, Indiana. On September 21, 2011, I attempted to start the vehicle and it wouldnt start. I had to use my husbands vehicle to take my child to school. In the meantime, my husband used a battery conditioner to recondition the battery and jumper cables to start the vehicle. I went to Mike Anderson Chevrolet on September 23, 2011. Joshua ** took care of me in the service department. They kept the vehicle overnight. On September 24, 2011, I was quoted $1,600.00 for Heater Core Replacement due to a fracture in the core causing an antifreeze leakage. Also, the battery needed to be replaced because it was dead again when Joshua tried to bring me the vehicle. Joshua used jumper cables and revived the vehicle.

I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook. I am now having problems with the ignition. Sometimes the key will come out on its own but sometimes it gets stuck. I have to drive backwards and forward to get the key to come out. My husband drove it one day and he said that the key got stuck, he disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the key came out. Im seeing a lot of complaints about GM vehicles doing this. Some people say its the Body Control Module and its not covered under warranty after 36k miles. Some have their ignitions and others parts replaced but the problems with the key getting stuck comes back. Its time consuming and costly and GM needs to fix this. Why should consumers have to pay for a manufacturers defect?

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and just spent $649 to have the ignition switch replaced. The light would constantly come on and the key would get stuck and it would lock up on me. This has been going on for about 2 years. It stopped for about a year and then about 2 weeks ago it started up again. When I took it in for repair, I had to go to the dealer. I found out this happens to most Ions. This is unacceptable. And he said he would not be surprised if I am back in 6 months. What can be done if anything? This just does not seem right, other than selling my car. But I cannot afford a new one. Please help!

As read in all of the other reviews, I am both happy and sad. Happy to see that I am not the only one with this issue and sad to see that GM has not done anything about it! So my key also gets stuck when I am trying to turn off my car. I did notice that if you wait patiently, you will eventually hear a little click sound. When you hear that sound, then the key will come out. Well it does it on my car. I am not sure if it does it on all but if you hear the click once, you will know what to look for. I have a new problem now. I parked my car in my driveway last night then went back into the car to run to the store and I am having the opposite problem. I turn the key to start the car and it gets stuck before the car can start. So now I cannot start the car! I was looking to see if there were any recalls and I found hundreds of complaints. I saw another writer mention a class action law suit. Perhaps that is the way to go.

After trying to resolve this issue for 2 1/2 hours, I took my car to my boyfriends house and they were finally able to shut the car off by unplugging the ignition switch plug and disconnecting the battery. We were still never able to get the key out. I have contacted several people, all of which say I need to contact GM to discuss a recall. Please do not buy any Saturns. They are deadly! I purchased this car last year and all I had was problems and recalls. My door locks would go up and down while driving every other day. But when I take it to the shop, then it would stop. They couldnt fix it because they couldnt see the problem. Then my check tire pressure light would come on. I took it to the shop, the tire pressure was fine. Then the auto-theft light would come on and off. Basically the car had a mind of its own. I drove the car about 10 miles today, parked, walked across the street and it was up in smoke. The fire department said it started from the engine. Has this happened to anyone else? This car was a problem from day one. I would stay away from buying any Saturn cars, period!

I had to have it towed to a transmission shop where they said it would be anywhere from $900 to $1500 to fix it. Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?

A couple months ago, I was driving with my 3 kids in the car when I came to a stop light. Once it turned green, I pushed on the accelerator and nothing happened, except the RPMs revved up high, but I was going maybe 10 mph. I was less than a mile from home, so we made it safely, but when I went to pull in driveway it almost stopped completely and then realized it didnt reverse at all! The next day it was fine. A few months later now, the engine light comes on and off as it pleases, and as we are driving the car will give a jolt and just drop the speed, all while rpms go higher. I am so terrified that we are going to get into an accident!! I cant believe there has been no recall on this when there are literally hundreds of people with this problem! My husband was recently let go at his job so we cannot afford a new transmission, which I hear is costing around $3500!! I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! I addressed to Saturn over and over that there was something wrong with the steering wheel; it shook and clicked. They kept saying it was fine and just some air in it. I also kept saying that there was hesitation in the engine and electrical issues, all this while it was under full warranty. They are now fixing the transmission and oil leak for the second time and also, the air bag sensor doesnt work and had not for over a year and GM is saying that they will not fix that or the broken steering column even though I have tried to have it fixed for two years. I have all my documents. Now, they are saying to go pick up the car or we have to pay for the rental because they cant help us yet and probably will not pay for the steering column or air bag sensor. This car has been a lemon since I bought it and I owe a lot on it and for the past week, I have been trying to get GM to fix those two items.

Saturn Vue original trans failed at 121,500. Based on what I read, I was lucky to have had it last that long. As new GM failed to uphold the results of the lawsuit, that is to cover replacement for a defective product, I had to pay $5000 for parts and labor to replace. I was told warranty is 3-year/36k miles. I went ahead, thinking if I get three years that would be great and worth the money. Now, at 2 years and 34,000 miles, I have a failing trans and am being told that no, the warranty is only 12/12. I am screwed. Even my mechanic was told 3/36 by dealership where he bought it. Get it on paper, people. I cannot afford a new car or $5k to get another bad trans. I am stuck in PA.

I have under 50,000 miles on my Saturn and yesterday, without warning, the transmission quit. Will not move in any gear. I have an estimate to repair of 3,600 dollars from a dealer. This has been an ongoing with Saturns as I am learning. I really feel cheated by Chevy. It is time for someone in this company to step up to the plate. I love my car. I would think twice now about buying any Chevy product.

I have called a Chevy dealer and they are not covering this under warranty or recall at this time. This will be a $300 repair and has been happening to thousands of people. This problem should be covered by a recall. We had to replace lock housing, and cylinder and reprogram.

So I own a car with 134,000 miles that runs good but not able to fix my car because they no longer make the part. And apparently because of the Cash for Clunkers, Saturn was one of the cars that everyone junked because couldnt get parts for the cars. So Thank You Saturn for making JUNK CARS and apparently you were aware because you no longer make these vehicles.

I am on my third Saturn. I dont have an Ion. I have a 2007 VUE. I owned two other cars prior to this. My first two Saturns, within the warranty period, had to have the ignition replaced because they jammed and I couldnt turn the key to start the car. My VUE made it past the warranty period, but now is jamming up the same way. Another quirk: I can start the car and pull the key out and drive without the key in. I have to be careful to turn the ignition all the way to off before I pull the key out or the battery will die if the radio or something else is left on. I fully expect, based upon my experience today of trying for about 10 minutes to unlock the ignition and turn the key, that there will soon come a point where I cant start it and will have to pay loads to have the ignition replaced. Yes, three Saturns...same problem. If GM wanted to really be about customer service, they would acknowledge this issue.

I own a 2006 Saturn Ion 2, original owner. I will say I did not have any major issues with my car until I got home, tried to turn off my car when the ignition would not turn leaving the car running. After several attempts, the key just came out with the ignition still running. I realized nothing would work, so I stalled the car, unplugged the battery and had it towed to a Saturn dealership. They supposedly replaced my ignition for $480 plus $140 for the tow. They said its been a common problem with this year, make, model and mileage but they havent recalled it yet. I truly hope that if enough people complain about it, they will issue the recall and we can all get reimbursed for our hard-earned money.

I am very disappointed that Saturn had not addressed my ignition/steering column problem. Yesterday, I got home from work and parked my Saturn, in the garage, only to discover that I could not turn it off and the key was locked in the ignition. Fortunately, it was early enough to get it to a garage, before they closed for the day. Unfortunately, they have to take the whole steering column apart to get the key out. They plugged the button near the ignition, and did not release it. I would certainly like to see a class action law suit filed, against GM for not resolving this problem, as it seems to have been reported with IONS, for the last 7 years or so, as far as I can see. I just got the loan paid off, so the timing for the car to fall apart is coincidental.

I had same problem which turned fatal for some people. Electrical problems from alarm randomly going off while driving, interior lights coming on, stalling out completely while driving. Cost me a fortune to repair. Got rid of it. I have had 6 Saturns since 1990 and from a family of GM employees. In my opinion, and firsthand experience, GM mismanaged Saturn, essentially killing it either out of sheer incompetence or intentional neglect. [I mean, what company copies the same exact cars the Saturn made and advertises them but ignores the marketing for Saturn?] So what was once proudly touted as a 97% American-made car, was now in 2004, a car with parts from all over the world. Coincidence? I think not. It opened in 1990 as the site for Saturn manufacturing and continued through March 2004 as the sole manufacturing plant overseen by the Saturn subsidiary. After the United Auto Workers ratified a new contract in March 2004, the plant became part of General Motors... Wikipedia, accessed 3/13/2015. I own a Saturn Aura 2007 [its an American built Opel Vectra GMs German brand that always has been superior]. I will run it into the ground but then never buy another GM car again. Mismanagement should not be rewarded.

My Saturn was purchased used with 49k on it at a Saturn dealership as a certified pre-owned vehicle. That was 13.5 years ago in 2000, to now currently Aug 2014. I have replace brakes in it twice on the front, once on the rear. I forgot how many sets of tires I have had on it. At 90k I put on a new set of struts totally making the ride awesome and feeling like a new car. I have hit 2 deer and 1 deer has ran into the side of the car. The deer collisions I was able to almost stop before hitting them. The shroud that runs under the car for the A/C cooling is now gone because of that. The result is that the A/C does not work super great unless the car is moving in a forward motion. Just sitting in the hot sun at idle with the cooling fan running though the A/C will blow out the vents at about 47 deg. F. It goes down to 40 deg. while rolling down the road. To me this is satisfactory as I dont sit idle for long. Also during the deer collisions the A/C condenser was bent so it almost touches the radiator, it did not leak so Im not messing with it. I installed an hour meter into the vehicle and change my oil every 125 hours. This usually works out to about 3200-4700 miles. It started to use a quart of oil about every oil change when the car had about 165k on it. I then switched from Castrol conventional oil to Castrol High Mileage. Now it uses about a 1/4 quart every oil change. I have noticed that it uses more oil in town than if I cruise down the highway. Also most of the miles I have put on the car are highway miles. I flushed/replaced coolant, replaced the outer tie rod ends not because of wear but because the rubber seal started to crack at 182k. I have had to put on a new catalytic converter at about 88k, replaced the muffler and rear pipe section at 182k. Replace manual trans fluid at 100k and at 182k. Have replace the fuel filter 2 times (should have done this more often). It has 30k on the newest filter so will change it soon. I replace the air filter about every 15k depending on the roads I drive on. Everyone I know says to give them my old air filter because I change them so often. I dont mind, I believe that a good supply of air is the key to the 37-42 mpg on hwy and 27-30 mpg city. Saturn of SLC said the ECTS had to be replaced when the car was replaced at 88k. I have had to replace it one additional time at 160k. When it is really cold outside the engine will idle high when stopping until sitting for a few seconds. Im not replacing the ECTS again as I think this is a normal Saturn thing at really cold temperatures. Also while at Saturn of SLC, they told me that my fuel pump was bad and would replace it for $800. All that is wrong is the check valve is bad. If the key is turned to run then wait about 5 seconds, the fuel pump will bring the system up to pressure and the car starts great. Only problems I have is if someone else uses my car, they get in and turn the key to start right away and it cranks but does not start because of the lack of fuel. To me this is not an issue as every vehicle I have ever owned I turn the key to run, listen for the fuel pump to stop then start. So to save $800 all one has to do is this. 1 get into vehicle, 2 insert key and turn to run, 3 fasten seat belt, 4 start the vehicle. It will be up to pressure by time the seat belt is put on. Oh, and one more thing, the windshield in this car is awesome. I have had some large size rocks fall off trucks and hit the window directly. The angle is just right that they bounce over the car. Mine is pitted from many miles of highway driving but still satisfactory. The other day 205k, it was really hot in the car. I went to shift into reverse, the plastic shifter bushing broke. I was told this usually breaks around 70k so I carried an extra in the glove box. It is made by Dorman ($4). Also the other day my A/C evaporator drain plugged up 205k, easy fix, take an ink pen and stick it in the drain hole, the system drains fine now. That sums up the history of my Saturn for the 157k that I have owned it.I have also owned a 1991 Saturn SL1 Manual trans had an alternator issue at around 7k and was covered by warranty/recall. The starter went bad at 12k. Changed the oil every 3000 miles then at 64k the ex took it in the divorce. No known other issues. A 2004 ION3 Coupe Auto trans. Had a power module go bad at 65k. Dont remember the resolution. Lost the car to another ex. Moms car, a 1998 Saturn SL1, clutch master cyl went bad at 118k. No other known issues. She gave it to brother and he sold it because money burns hole in his pockets.Moms car, a 2001 Saturn SC2 manual trans - she changes oil when the dash light tells her to. I did replace the trans fluid for her in it. Around 50k starter went bad. Re-manufactured started installed and that one went bad at 88k. Replaced again under starter warranty oreilly auto parts. Replaced and brother has the car. He called and said there is a exhaust leak around exhaust manifold 93k. I have not looked at it but to me this is a minor issue. Note, this car has almost all miles city driving to the bank or store and back which are VERY HARD on the car. I hope that I helped someone out with this review.

I just got off the phone with GM Corporate. They again are refusing to take responsibility for the brake issue on the Saturn Aura. I bought a 2007 Saturn Aura new. At 27,300 I had to replace the brakes and rotors. Then at 46,000 I had to replace the brakes and have the calipers cleaned. I finally gave up and traded in the car because of GMs refusal to take responsibility for the AURA brake problems. This morning I reported General Motors to the NHTSA (888) 327-4236 and to the Federal Trade Commission (877) 382-4357. GM says they will not reimburse me until there is a recall. Please report your problems so we can force a recall. The number to GM Corporate for Saturn is (800) 553-6000.

Vue 2.2 5MT 2004 - I bought this car after careful consideration. I needed an SUV, 5MT (I love manual) and a gas saver. Saturn Vue was one of very few vehicles on the US market which satisfied my requirements. However, before buying it, do your research (as I did)! The 2.2 engine is good on gas and has chain instead of belt (so no worries about changing it), but stay away from 2.2 CVT vehicles!!! This is the most unreliable transmission I ever heard of. I have never read a single review about CVT where the transmission wasnt changed (which costs about $5000). 5MT Saturns only come with FWD, no AWD versions, but I have never experienced any problems getting stuck even during this horrible winter. And in terms of reliability, 5MT cannot even be compared to CVT, its very difficult to kill it, only if you dont know how to drive a manual at all and shift with grinding all the time - while a CVT can die every moment, without warning. However, with 5MT, dont forget that you should change both your transmission fluid (DEXRON III, dont use VI!!! Or, I use Pennzoil Syncromesh) and brake fluid in the clutch mechanism in time. Some people think these dont have to be changed, and its completely wrong. If your fluid is black, youre certainly killing your clutch or transmission. If youre a DIY person, its very easy to do both. However, there are several serious drawbacks. First, at RPMs above 3000, the engine is noisy. And at the same time, the transmission is built very strangely, so that at 40 mph you can already put it in 5th. As a result, at highway speeds (~70-75 mph) your RPMs are between 3200 and 4000 approximately. So engine noise inside the cab is guaranteed. Its not too loud, but its audible, the only thing that makes it tolerable is the whistling of air (I couldnt understand where its coming from) so that the engine noise doesnt seem so loud. I dont know why Saturn made such a transmission. I was riding with my friend in his Honda, its automatic, but still, at 60 mph his RPMs were only about 2000, while Saturn has at least 2500 on the tachometer even in 5th gear. Why make such a transmission? Of course its noisy when the engine runs constantly between 3300-4000 RPM on a highway! And at the same time, why did they install this dashboard which proudly says that the maximum speed is 130 mph? This transmission cant go even close to that, it will reach maximum RPMs well before. And by the way, if the engine didnt work at such high RPMs, it would have even better highway gas mileage. This is Saturn...I wont say anything about cheap plastic materials in the cab, I dont care about this, and its not a luxury car. If you need extreme comfort and expensive cab interior, buy something like a Cadillac and pay for servicing its numerous electronic devices. For me, the advantage of this car is its simplicity, I can fix or change most of the stuff myself. Also, there are stupid things which are just gross mistakes of the designers. Take the clutch: the bleeder valve is metal, but the tube which holds it is plastic, so if you want to change your old black fluid and then bleed the system, be very careful, because the valve may be rusty and stuck, and you can easily break the plactic tube and disable your car until it is replaced (youll have to buy a new master brake cylinder as this tube is not sold separately). Why couldnt they make this tube metal instead of plastic, knowing that there may be some effort needed to turn the valve??? Probably because its cheaper...And finally, Id like to mention the headlights. In this car they are the most horrible Ive ever seen. They sit in deep wells so the light beam is very narrow and only lights up a small piece of the road, not speaking about street signs - you can forget about it. At the same time, if you try to install a powerful bulb, youll see the other problem - the idiot designers didnt make a glare screen in front of the bulb, instead, theres a strange-looking and completely useless tube! I have specially looked at lots of other vehicles, they all have either projectors or a glare cap! But Saturn decided that Vue drivers dont need them! So if you install a powerful bulb, you have to make sure its the type with end painted, otherwise oncoming drivers are looking directly at your bulb, not covered by anything! At the same time, this light is just wasted, instead of being reflected by the glare cap and thrown onto the main reflector to magnify the beam. Bravo, Saturn! A very wise decision! I also have to mention that the high beams are poor as well, and they are located separately from low beams (different bulbs) but adjusted together. Which is horrible because normal car manufacturers make high beam HIGH - so that its ABOVE low beam cutoff. No such luck with the Vue - the high beams are practically on the same level as low beams, and if you try to raise them so they can do their work, low beams are raised too and start blinding oncoming traffic! But if you adjust low beams so that they dont blind, your so-called high beams point to the ground and are practically useless! Ive never seen more stupid headlights. And worst of all, there are NO aftermarket modified (e.g. projector) headlights for this car, theyre all the same stupid type! But overall, the cars not bad and I didnt have too many issues with it. Just dont buy CVT versions. And check the clutch before buying it, the replacement is expensive. If you dont know what to look for, bring a friend who knows a lot about manual cars.

I bought a 2008 vue 9/13/2013 and after a week I drove it from purchasing it from sellers renew the sensor lights went on. Sellers never inspected the car and put it on the lot from an auction and sold it to me! I have had it in the shop more times I have drove it. I mean it was in the shop for two months due to warranty issues and car kept breaking down. I have Took it in and told me the accel pedal sensor needed fixed that cost me 350.00, then one thing after another the control module is bad, the alternator has been replaced three times within a year, also a new transmission, evap code keeps coming up when we diagnose it, the whole computer system is shutting down and this is a Saturn. Issue should not be a consumer problem when the vehicle is dangerous to drive. Im not getting anywhere with Saturn, all these issues I have with my car and no dealer will take the car back or can even fix the car right. I pay out and another sensor issue or transmission issue. I had also experienced three times when Im driving at high speeds, the steering wheel will lock up and car will completely shut down. I have mechanic Invoices from day one and its a stack long, so more times being repaired than I drove it. But dealership says no codes come up and cant figure it and in the meantime, Im paying for a car that sits in my garage cause no one will buy it or trade it in is impossible, and literally had the car a month and all problems occurred. This should be a saturn issue to refund us and take their crappy car back and we should not be out of pocket. I have numerous bills from dealerships and this is a saturn issue, not a consumer problem when the car is dangerous to drive! Also the warranty they make you purchase with credit acceptance does not cover these issues when this is a default on behalf of saturn.

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion 2 Quad Coupe. Ive been having problems on and off for years with the ignition. It was sometimes difficult to start, but with a little jiggling of the key and the steering wheel, I always managed to start it. I wish that was the only problem. Yesterday, I drove my car to the supermarket and couldnt turn the car off. I was able to turn the engine off, but the key would not release and the keys position was stuck in the ACC position. My local mechanic told me that I needed to find a GM dealer, so I took it to the closest Buick/GMC dealer in my county. I was told that I needed a new ignition and am dreading to find out the cost tomorrow. I just found out today that there were hundreds of other Saturn owners who experienced the same problem. Like so many others here, my key often gets sucked in the ignition of my 2004 Saturn Ion and either a) wont start for 15 minutes, or b) wont release after I try to turn the car off. Twice, the ignition turned off while I was driving down the freeway. Today, I had the added fun of the key locking in the ACC position and it wont turn off. I had to remove a fuse to turn the engine off. I have replaced the ignition column (I believe it is what my mechanic called it) as the key was already getting stuck and would not release the key unless I waited several minutes and would not start for 15 to 20 minutes much of the time. That was about 8 months ago. Clearly this did not help much. I cannot emphasize enough what a piece of garbage this car is. I will never own another GM car as a direct result of my experience with it. I have poured an insane amount of money into it to correct a wide variety of defects but I am done. It isnt worth repairing one more time. It is too bad that American made equals garbage.

My 2003 VUE (3.0) hit the 100K threshold a few months back. I noticed increasing delay in starting, so decided to change out plugs with iridium ones. Ran great following new plug job. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a few trouble codes causing my Check Engine light to come on. First was for Cam Shaft Position Sensor, and second was for low temp sensor. After ruling out fuses, faulty connectors, etc., I decided to replace the Cam Sensor (easy), and thermostat (especially since it had never been done). When I finally finished the job, the car wouldnt start (turned over though). I pulled my hair out for weeks looking for reason for not starting. Had mobile mechanic come out, and could only tell me it sounded like compression loss and/or timing problem. Finally had it towed to shop. Their diagnosis was a skipped timing belt (4 teeth), which caused a few valves to bend etc, etc... Now I am looking at $3000 to $3500 to fix the problem (I hope). I replaced the water pump and timing belt a few ago and drove it without a problem until what I thought was routing thermostat replacement - boy was I wrong. The cost to repair is about $2K less than getting a rebuilt engine, but is still at that grey point between getting work done or not. The optimist in me is hoping for another 100K miles after all is said and done. Not too happy with GM at the moment. Parts cost an arm and leg since Saturn is no longer produced. Hope it works out in the end.

2003 Saturn ION - good car at first, but ignition issues plagued me. The key would sometimes stick, making it impossible to start the vehicle until I noticed jiggling the steering wheel and gear handle would release it. It felt very unsafe though. I had the vehicle shut off on the highway more than once and I was able to get to the side of the road. It also shut off during sharp turns where there was a slight incline. The scariest and most annoying issue was the key could be removed at any time during driving and after no luck with lasting repairs, I simply kept a note in the car during service appointments (or for valet) to MAKE SURE KEY IS IN THE OFF POSITION BEFORE REMOVING, because I came out to a dead battery more than once. Such a waste of energy and a risk to my family. I no longer have this vehicle and Im thankful for that because it felt unsafe!

After having the car for less than a year, my key got stuck in my ignition. It took a mechanic to show me how to pull the plug on the ignition cylinder lock. Currently, I am homeless and my car is all I have. Obviously, if I cannot afford a roof over me or my childrens head, I cannot afford to have this problem fixed by anybody! I am not the only one that has experienced this problem, and I feel like suing GM for making such a stupid piece of ** plastic car! Not only is the key stuck in my ignition, but the fuel line is just hanging underneath my car. The windows wont work sometimes, and the car sounds and shifts like an old manual 4-cylinder engine! Way to go Saturn on ** up a car so bad that GM didnt even want to continue the Saturn car models!

Same as all of the rest. Key will not come out of the ignition. I had to stall the car to kill the engine and unplug a harness to kill elec. I would love to talk to a lawyer if they dont take care of this issue with a recall. I have not taken it in yet. I will not pay for a problem they made. I have removed the plastic under the steering wheel; only 1/2 would come off due to my key being stuck in the ignition. I unhooked the green harness this way. I can still use the car. I risk it being stolen with the key stuck in the ignition, but that would be a gift from God.

Key would not come out of the ignition. Could not shut car off and ran into the same issue. When I spoke with GM, they had never heard of this problem. After giving them my VIN #, I was told there were 2 to 3 recalls for my car but nothing for the ignition problem. The person from GM then got a GM dealer from Austin on the phone with me who proceeded to tell me if I bring it in for $115 they will hook it up to figure out what was wrong. I have got an estimate for approx $400 to fix it. I was told the ignition was about $60 but if the housing is bad that adds another $160, $50 for a new key and programming. Besides the fact that they have to be replaced with the same defective GM parts and that it can happen again at any time.

Before the recall, I had the ignition problem. My key got stuck in the ignition and wouldnt shut off. I finally pulled the fuel fuse to get it to shut down. I went to a repair shop to get it fixed and they had to replace the steering column as well as the ignition and this left me with only one key because they could not remove it and it broke. The recall came out and the new part was ordered and after several hours of waiting, my vehicle was repaired. I was told by Saturn that I could be reimbursed for the money I put out for the original repair. They wouldnt reimburse me for the steering column. After trying for several days to get reimbursement (with all invoices submitted as well as phone numbers and name of original mechanic) for an issue that was no fault of mine but certainly Saturns bad parts, I finally accepted the minimal amount of money THEY said was due to me. Im still very upset that after all theyve paid out due to their own negligence and bad parts, they arent fairly reimbursing. I will continue as often as I can to give bad reviews on this company. Ill also tell everyone I can by word of mouth that Saturn is a terrible company and is only out for themselves NOT the consumer. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF PURCHASING A SATURN USED OR OTHERWISE!!

I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. The GM rep referred me back to the dealership. The dealership told me that there is no other option. I am not out to get money, just an answer to why nothing could be done and is there anything that really could be?

Bought a 2009 Saturn Outlook last year with 64,000 miles. Beautiful car and body in really good shape. Loaded with everything you could think of. 2 weeks after having it, it would make all kinds of noise when turning and sound really ruff. Took it to a GM dealer and it was completely out of oil. They could not find any leaks or that is was burning oil. Needless to say putting oil in it was a once a month thing.Steering went out - had to pay $1900 to get that and the rack and pinion repaired. One week later we lost all power to the car driving down the mountains in Virginia. Spent $1,000 to get it towed back to Ohio to spend another $100 to put on analyser. Now they are saying we have to pay another 1500 for GM to tear it down so GM specialist can look at it since they still cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I still owe on this car and they said once they figure out whats wrong it could cost another 4 to 5 thousand to fix it. This has been the biggest headache. I cant believe we spend the money we do on cars and they dont even last 5 YEARS.

Saturn ion 3 2005 - Key gets stuck, car shuts off when it wants, and steering goes out sometimes. This is a two hand on steering wheel car for sure!! Pretty scary. It awful that some people who have complaints about this car are no longer living human beings. That must have been changing the radio station while making a turn. Remember two hands and hold on tightly!! I no longer drive cars that have internal combustion engines with complex engine starting features, (push button once to engage low power circuit for radio and accessories, push button again to engage high power circuit for electrical traction motor). Simple, no service ever, no transmission, exhaust, sensors, hoses, belts, radiator, water, clutch, etc., no service required. Good luck with those old things.

I have a 2005 Vue with a standard transmission. Today, for the 5th time, I went to get into the car and the key would not go in the ignition. I called my old Saturn dealer (now Cadillac) and one of the techs told me to turn the wheel as far as I could to the right and then back to the left (then go back and forth with the wheel rocking it) until the steering column locked. Once that happened, I had to release the lever for the tilt feature on the steering wheel and jam it up and down as hard as I could in the hopes that the movement would realign the pins in the tumblers which would allow the key entry. When that still didnt help, I turned the locked steering column as hard as I could to the left and tried inserting the key. Success finally! I drove home from work. But when I got out of the car in the garage, I tried to reinsert the key again and the ignition would not accept it. So Im hoping I can repeat the above routine just so I can get to the dealer to have the entire assembly replaced. Quote is $325. This should not be happening. With all the reading I have done about GM moving so much of its operations to China, I dont think they really care about us leftover Saturn owners. Never again!

I bought my Ion with cash a year ago. The first time I drove it through the canyon, I tried using the cruise control. It took several attempts but eventually it set. Unfortunately hitting the brake or engaging the clutch did not disengage the cruise control. Turning it off also did nothing. The best I could do is put it in neutral and let the RPSMs scream until eventually the cruise control disengaged. After this, several times while driving in town, in the city, with the cruise control button switched off, my car would engage the cruise control and begin to accelerate and I was unable to disengage it again but managed to avoid any accidents. I finally disconnected the battery to erase the memory and clear out any previous cruise control settings. Still cannot find anyone that can solve this mystery. My current problem is this: I was on the freeway when my car began to squeal much like the sound of a belt. The motor ran ok and I actually made it home and the car cut out in the driveway and will not start. I turned the key and it makes a very bizarre sound I have never heard before. Anyone w/ anything?

Last night after stopping at a local store, I attempted to turn my 2006 Saturn Ion off. The key would not move backwards and therefore, I could not remove it from the ignition slot. Obviously, I was unable to turn the car off. Since it was about 6:30 when this happened, I tried a couple of auto parts stores, but they found the problem strange. Finally, I drove it to a certified dealership for them to keep overnight. Today I found out that the key, cylinder, and housing would need to be replaced for $650.00! I am the only one earning money for my kids and myself. The consequence is that I do not feel I can afford a new car, so I am stuck paying for a problem that perhaps should be officially recalled. I can tell from this website that I am not the only one with the problem.

Unfortunately, I have purchased a 2003 Saturn Ion when they were brand new. It felt wrong from the beginning and it has only proven my instincts correct. Within one year, the steering has failed. It will cost $1,500+ to fix this problem. The windows do not roll up or down. The ignition has locked, another fix that has cost me $600. The wiper transmission has been replaced with the upgraded metal wiper transmission. The front airbags have failed. The gas gauge works when it feels like it. This car is better off as scrap. This car is crap! Saturn is one of the cheapest autos in history! Do not buy this vehicle or you will regret it just as I do every time I look at it. It makes my stomach turn to know that the makers of this cheap car were able to get away with selling a car to the public knowing that it is a death trap!

I have been reading hundreds of identical complaints with this model year transmission. When I emailed GM customer service, I was told my VIN was not part of this transmission recall. Many others were told the same thing yet its the same problem with this model year (The door was damaged when it rolled into a pole when I thought it was engaged in park). Repairs are in excess of $3,000 and with no Saturn parts available. Clearly a defect. There should be assistance with repairs. Seems US auto makers get a bailout yet consumers get screwed. My 2009 Saturn Vue had been progressively difficult to steer and also made a grinding sound when turning to the right. This went on for several months. It was taken to the dealership for this, but no repairs were made b/c the tech did not see/hear the issue. A few months later, the Vue lost control and went into a skid. Diagnostics at the dealer showed that there was a steering gear leaking fluid and that the steering pump needed replacement. Also, the steering sensor was not programmed correctly. This sounds very much like the recall on 2008-2009 Saturn Vues, however mine is not in that batch. My head just might explode!!! We bought our 2008 Saturn from a certified dealer about 3 years ago. The vehicle had just about 30K miles on it at the time. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed that the engine light would come on and the service StabiliTrak light would come on. I obviously brought it back to the dealership, as it was under warranty at that time, and they said they figured out the problem and sent us on our way. Of course, no sooner did I pull out of the shop, and they light came on again. So, back we went...they said they repaired it. Sure enough, it did it again and they eventually came to the conclusion it was just a stupid sensor and everything was actually fine!Fast forward to December 2013 and the POS starts acting up. The transmission light came on and I panicked. My brother-in-law suggested we just try putting in more fluid and see if that helps. We did...it helped for about 2 days. And then...HELL BROKE LOOSE!! The entire transmission was shot!! It had something to do about a wave plate and as a result, we needed to get an entirely rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $3,600!!! Literally, on the way home from the repair shop, the engine light started flashing! I immediately turned around and brought it back to the shop. They ran some tests and determined that it was likely some excess crap that just happened to pass through the sensor causing it to get triggered. Now, 8 months later, the engine light keeps going on and whenever I fill my car with gas, I have to rev the accelerator to get it to start!! It seemed to be running ok...but after the last fiasco, we didnt want to risk anything. So, I brought it into the shop. The technician find that there has been over 36K misfires from cylinder 2 and that the spark plug has seized. I leave my vehicle there and drive their 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 232K miles on it over the weekend as a loaner. (amazing how a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 232K miles is still running, but my 2008 with 92K miles on it is toast). Anyways, he said that they wanted to replace the spark plugs and then try moving the cylinder coil that had been connected to the #2 over to a different one to see if maybe the issue was just the cylinder coil and nothing more serious.I receive a call this afternoon telling me that it appears that the issue was not related to the cylinder coil and they suspect we are going to need a NEW ENGINE!!!!! Yep, thats right...A NEW ENGINE!!!! This car does not even have 100K miles on it and I am being told I need to put a NEW ENGINE in it??? After we already replaced the transmission!!! That is seriously wrong and a total load of crap!!It appears that both the transmission and the engine are well-known problems for this model and year of vehicle!! I guess 2007s are experiencing the same troubles!! If you look online you can see discussion board after discussion board all discussing these same issues. Saturn needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a faulty product!!! There is no reason I should have to put in over $10K worth of repairs on a vehicle with less than 100K miles on it!! It is disgraceful!!!

I am posting this as an insurance to make Saturn liable if anything happens to me while driving and this steering wheel freezes up on me and I’m in an accident due to this problem!!! There seems to be a lot of problems in regards to the power steering. But my vehicle freezes up on the steering column and I’m not able to move the steering wheel to move out of the road! I have a 2004 Saturn Vue with 90,000 miles. This vehicle was purchased used in 2004 with only 12,000 miles. The other day, as I was using the On-ramp to gather speed to enter I-70, my transmission suddenly started shuddering and the vehicle lost its ability to propel forward. I was almost slammed from behind by a vehicle travelling at 65mph. The sudden deceleration put my life and the life of others at risk. I have always completed my regularly scheduled maintenance, and this is the first time I had experienced a transmission issue in this vehicle.I am appalled at the lack of accountability on the part of GM. On April 16, 2009, GM agreed to a class action settlement concerning widespread issues with the 2002-2005 Saturn Vue and 2003-2004 Saturn Ion VTi (CVT) transmissions. Basically, they admitted there is a serious defect with the transmissions, BUT HAVE NOT FULFILLED THE TERMS OF THE SETTLEMENT, ARE NOT COVERING THE COST OF REPAIRS AS DESIGNATED IN THE SETTLEMENT, AND HAVE NOT NOTIFIED VEHICLE OWNERS OF ITS EXISTENCE. From what I can gather, GM skated out of fulfilling their end of the settlement due to filing for bankruptcy protection. I had to really dig to find any pertinent information regarding this class action lawsuit. If you would like more information, check out ** for more information regarding the suit. My vehicle has leaked 8 more times, and the new dealership (original Saturn closed) cannot locate the leak. I have a case with GM, and I am getting nowhere. GM does not appear to be taking any responsibility for their faulty vehicle. There are numerous complaints about this same issue online (i.e. **). I have documented every conversation/appointment I have had regarding this issue. My headliner and carpet are both ruined from all the rain that has soaked in. When it gets warm outside, my vehicle smells terribly. Im concerned about the potential health effects this may have on my family, if there is mold/mildew growing in the vehicle. I am also concerned about the probability of mechanical things malfunctioning, due to the rain getting it wet. I am disgusted with GM, and the way they are handling all of the leak issues with the many Outlooks produced. There should have been a recall placed on all of them way back when. I am disgusted.

In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.
