Ram Dakota mechanic

Ram Trucks, stylized as RAM and formerly known as the Ram Truck Division, is an American brand of light to mid-weight commercial vehicles, and a division of Stellantis. It was established in a spin-off from Dodge in 2010 using the name of the Ram Pickup line of trucks.

Those who have fond memories of the Dodge Dakota pickup that disappeared in 2011 will be happy to hear that Ram is planning a new mid-size pickup truck that may resurrect the Dakota nameplate. Expected to arrive sometime later this year, this new truck will be cheaper and smaller than the half-ton Ram 1500. While it could share some components with its larger sibling, we think it'll be based largely on the Jeep Gladiator, which earned a spot on our 2020 10Best list following the Jeep's debut. The resurrected Dakota will also compete against the recently revived Ford Ranger as well as mid-size alternatives that include the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Toyota Tacoma. While we're awaiting further details on the Ram Dakota, here's what we know so far.

Product Reviews:

Repeated failures with the ventilation system. Everyone I know who has a 2003 or newer Ram has had the same problems. Dodge knew the systems would fail but DID NOTHING to improve them. If you have the dealer fix the problems, it WILL happen again because they use the same cheap parts. Because it is so time consuming to fix the problem, labor will cost you at least $1,000. It doesn't matter if you have it fixed under warranty because the system will again and again as long as the same parts are used. I have spent over 30 hours removing the entire dash, including steering wheel, instrument panel, passenger airbag, glove box, climate control panel, radio, etc., etc. to fix the problem myself. The only permanent solution is to replace the crappy "doors" located inside the ventilation ducts. I cannot even begin to describe how difficult it is attempting to access these areas and if you don't have a modicum of mechanical aptitude, forget it. Dodge used these same cheap parts in a lot of vehicles, including Jeep Grand Cherokees. Absolute crap.

I have been reading all the bad reviews for Dodge pickups. Some are really bad. I bought a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Cummings diesel engine. I have almost 200,000 miles on it and it has been almost trouble free except for a fuel pump a few years ago. I am still driving it and most of the driving was pulling a 34 ft fifth wheel across the country. I think maybe some changes must have been made for all of these comments to be bad reviews for Dodge. I would really do some research before buying another on though. Sad too about the dealers not standing behind their customers. I will check here with Consumer Affairs before I buy anything in the future.

Apparently, Dodge has no dashboard alert for software that needs updating. I stumbled onto the need only when trying to get smogged. The update cost us hundreds at the dealer, and the extension for the smogging also cost money. Had there been a dashboard alert this would not have happened.

I first purchased my 2019 Dodge Ram pickup back in April, everything went great I purchased an all black Big Horn. The whole dealership came to congratulate me on being the first to purchase. I received random thumbs up from strangers I was enjoying the truck as my daily driver, picking up the kids etc. Fast forward to my current experience with my Ram and I haven’t driven it a full week since August due to my power steering locking up at random times. The most recent time was two days ago where I couldn’t even get out the driveway nor turn the truck back into my yard without the power steering hindering my turn. After sitting in the waiting area a total of 10 hours, driving 3 different loaner vehicles, I now feel like purchasing this truck was one of my worst experiences I’ve made. I know that many new vehicles have small things but I feel that the safety of my family and I has been at risk and the best I could get is a truck that locks back up the next day. Do better Dodge this is embarrassing.

Overall the truck is a good truck, has lots of features. I would recommend a test drive and purchase. Just like all vehicles now days, are overpriced, by being over inflation. The big screen on the dash is the biggest in the industry. Truck seems to be solidly built. Lots of electronics for a pleasant drive. The power of the diesel is a great asset with the four wheel drive.

The new 12 Inch Electronic/Radio Display System doesn't work. Unable to make hands free phone calls, or access their "Uconnect" on vehicle support service because there is high levels of static and very low volume. This $70,000 truck has been back to the dealer twice, within the first month of ownership. Both times, the dealer was unable to repair the problem. They claim they have been in touch with the RAM Techline, who instructed them to run an updated software download. They did it, but it did not repair the problem. I have now been told I have to wait, Possible as long as December for the next "new software download". Why they think that software update will work, given they said the first software update they completed was supposed to fix the problem and it didn't. In addition to the technology problems I've experienced, the optional hard bed cover leaks!!DON'T make the same mistake I did. I owned Chevy trucks for 15 years, but decided to try a Dodge. DON'T make the same mistake I did and buy this truck. Unfortunately I'm one of those people RAM refers to in the advertising campaign by saying: "More People Are Switching To RAM". All I can say in response to that campaign slogan is "More People Are Being Disappointed With RAM!!!"

I bought a new Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 on 03/26/2012. The warranty has run out. The truck currently has about 60k + miles on it. The truck started making a whining noise from the rear end. I brought it to my local Dodge dealer to get it looked at. Turns out it's the rear end pinion bearing that went bad. The mechanic told me that I might be in luck and that there might be a recall on this rear end. He did some research and found out my VIN number did not match the recall. The repair that the recall calls for is the same repair they did on my truck. The pinion bearing they took out of the truck was trashed due to lack of proper lubrication, the reason for the recall. I called the RAM customer assistance office and received no assistance with this repair. This lack of lubrication condition could cause the pinion bearing to seize and cause a loss of vehicle control and or cause a crash without warning. The last sentence was pulled directly from the recall advisory that for some reason does not include my truck yet the problem I had is just like the recall. RAM really needs to get this checked out before someone is injured. If you own a 2012 Ram 1500 get it checked out. Safety Recall K36.

I bought the truck in May of last year with only 18000 miles on it. I changed the oil as soon as I bought it (DelVac Mobil 1, 15-40wt syn). Abt 3000 miles later I got the change oil soon message. So I changed it. Another 3000 mile goes by and I got the same message again, but this time I called my local Dodge Ram dealer (Huntington Beach). They told me that the 7500 mile oil change interval is just an approximation. I also noticed that when I drained the oil (into a 5 gal bucket) I noticed the oil level was abt an inch and a half from the top. The dip stick is hard to see if the oil level is higher than it should be. So I took notice to that, so now after another 3000 miles I took an oil sample via Quinn Cat. and it came back with low oil viscosity with an 8.5% of fuel in the oil. I've tried to get help via my local Dodge dealership and all I got was "No engine light, then we can't do anything." I don’t feel that any of what I've explained is normal. Is there anything you can do to help. Well I got my truck back from Dodge and they told me that 8.5% fuel dilution is? Normal? I can't believe that. They also said that they did a comprehensive injector test. The only thing that I saw in the paperwork that they gave me was that the tech pulled the valve cover and looked at the injectors and stated he didn't see any leaks. Also the tech smelled in the engine, and it didn't smell of fuel. That, is as far as I can see is their BIG test. Anyway, my VIN is **. My oil change intervals are May 25, 2013, 18700 miles (That’s when I bought the truck), Aug 24, 2013, 22176 miles, Nov 17, 2013, 26659 miles (This is when I pulled over 4 1/2 gallons of oil/fuel mix out of the engine), Jan 21, 2014, 29732 miles (This is when I took the oil sample). Changed oil Mar 24, 2014, 32980 (Oil Sample 9% rule in oil), April 27, 2014 (Oil sample no results yet). Now, I'm not the smartest cookie on the planet, but if I get 8.5% & 9% of fuel in the oil at only 3073 mile between oil changes, something is wrong (In my Opinion). Thanks for your time. VIN: **, Mileage: 35281, Servicing Dealer: Huntington Beach Dodge.

I have a 2019 Dodge Ram 3500 for 5 months now. I also use my truck for work and had a incident in Pennsylvania. I was told parts will be in 2-3 business days! Then 5 days later I was told parts are on back order up to January. I cannot work due to no parts to replace...Brand New Truck and no parts for it!! Also, I have a Case Manager and she said she has a Expedited Team looking into it. Now, it has been 13 days and still need the same 3 parts. There is no guarantee on any parts. I've asked for a replacement truck and still no answer!!!! But I cannot make a vehicle payment now due to no replacement parts or vehicle for work.. Next it will be I Can't Pay My Bills.. They still expect me to make a car payment though... This is not good customer service!

The only good part of my $53000 MSRP 2014 Longhorn is the look, everything else is crap. First warranty transmission replaced at 50000 miles. Second transmission replacement at 98000. Yep I was so lucky. First shift issues in 4WD about 25k in. Flywheel cracked at 110k. Hand (foot) brake issues at 111k. Console light started blinking at 50k. Remote start died at 80k. Backup camera works on and off since 60k. Fuel gauge which is inside the fuel pump was replaced at 90k. Now Remote door lock does not open doors Everytime. (Key and battery are fine.) I have been hoping that each repair is the last, however stuff just keeps breaking. Total junk.
