New Car Preview: 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Posted On: May 11, 2022
We’re certain that most will agree with us when we say Range Rovers are some of the best-looking luxury SUVs around, and the 2023 Range Rover Sport gets even better with updated styling, a longer wheelbase, a plug-in hybrid option, and a new snarling twin-turbo V8 engine option. The Range Rover Sport has always been a go-to for the ‘right-sized’ British SUV and has been the most popular model for Land Rover for many years in the U.S. market. For the 2023 model year, the Range Rover Sport receives a redesign marking its third generation bringing a new design but doesn’t depart from the classic signature look of the midsized SUV. With the new redesign, the Range Rover Sport receives four defined trim levels where the base P360 SE and P400 SE Dynamic bring back the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system setup with 355 horsepower in the P360 SE and 395 horsepower in the P400 SE Dynamic. What is all-new for the Range Rover Sport is a P440e plug-in-hybrid powertrain that has 434 horsepower and an impressive all-electric range of 48 miles from its 31.8-kWh battery pack. At the top end of the powertrain scale is a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine sourced from BMW that gets the same 523 horsepower as it produces in other BMW vehicles, which will give the Range Rover Sport enough oomph to hit 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. Land Rover has claimed that a new all-electric Range Rover Sport will join the lineup next year (2023). Getting into what else has changed, the new Range Rover Sport retains its off-road prowess with improvements all around starting with the platform being 35% stiffer and a 3-inch longer wheelbase. That longer wheelbase affords more legroom adding as much as an inch for the rear seats. There are 22-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, heating, and ventilation. The new infotainment system sports a 13.1-inch curved touchscreen that can be updated over the air along with having the proper Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration and a 29-speaker Meridian sound system with 1,430 watts of power. There’s also rear-wheel steering that can turn the back wheels up to 7.3 degrees for better maneuverability at low speeds. Also, the Range Rover Sport gets adaptive off-road cruise control, something that makes navigating rough terrain a nearly thoughtless process combined with the standard air suspension system that can raise and lower depending on the Terrain Response 2 system’s drive mode. The new 2023 Range Rover Sport will be built in the same Solihull, U.K. production facility and is currently on sale with a starting price of $84,350 and goes up to the twin-turbo V8-powered First Edition’s price of $122,850.
