2016 650S

The 2016 McLaren 650S is a high-performance sports car that offers a range of advanced features and technologies. McLaren is known for its engineering excellence and focus on performance, and the 650S is no exception. Here are some of the notable features and specifications of the 2016 McLaren 650S:

Engine: The McLaren 650S is powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces impressive horsepower and torque figures. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for quick and seamless gear shifts.

Performance: The 2016 650S is capable of blistering acceleration and high speeds. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in around 3 seconds and has a top speed of over 200 mph, making it a true supercar in terms of performance.

Carbon Fiber Construction: Like many other McLaren models, the 650S features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, which contributes to its lightweight and rigid structure. This construction enhances both performance and safety.

Active Aerodynamics: The 650S features McLaren's active aerodynamics technology, which includes an adjustable rear wing that can change its position to optimize downforce and aerodynamic efficiency based on driving conditions.

Suspension: The car features a double-wishbone suspension system with adaptive dampers that can be adjusted to provide a comfortable ride on regular roads or a more track-focused setup for spirited driving.

Interior: The interior of the 650S showcases a driver-focused design with high-quality materials and finishes. Features include leather-trimmed seats, a digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation.

Infotainment: The infotainment system in the 650S offers various functionalities, including audio controls, navigation, and connectivity options. However, the primary focus of the car is on driving performance, so the infotainment system is not as comprehensive as those found in luxury sedans.

Convertible Option: The 650S was available as a coupe as well as a convertible (Spider) model, featuring a retractable hardtop that can be lowered or raised to enjoy open-top driving.

Braking System: The 650S comes equipped with a high-performance braking system that includes carbon-ceramic brake discs for exceptional stopping power.

Customization: McLaren offers a range of customization options for the 650S, allowing buyers to choose from a variety of exterior colors, interior trims, and additional features to personalize their car.

Safety Features: While the primary focus of the 650S is on performance, it also includes essential safety features such as airbags, stability control, and antilock brakes.

It's worth noting that the 650S was succeeded by the McLaren 720S in McLaren's lineup. The information provided is based on my knowledge up until September 2021, and there might have been developments or changes beyond that date.

My partner and myself are car enthusiasts, and more specially supercar/high performance car enthusiasts. We have a 2020 Tesla Model S Dual Motor w/Ludicrous+ and we wanted to buy something with a more visceral/exhilarating feel to it (especially at higher speeds). As any other person in this market would do, we started renting super cars that we thought could be a promising prospect. We tried a Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari 488, Lamborghini Huracan , MB SLS and AMG GT, Audi R8, BMW i8, and McLaren 570 and 720s. The 720s blew our expectations of what a supercar should be, out of this world. It drives better than any other car, that we tried out, and then some. The interior in the luxury model is definitely superior to the other cars in the same market. The frunk is huge for a supercar, we fit the LEGO Disney castle box in it and it still had more to give! The infotainment system is also really good for a car at this level, though sometimes cuts out (though only probably 1 out of 100 drives). That is probably the only complaint that I have about the car, and even then, you just have to restart it and then everything is fine. The performance is above anything else we drove as well, besides the Model S 0-60, of course. But, beyond that, the McLaren puts it in the dust. We have driven this car at high speeds and it just wants to keep giving you more, even at 150+ mph, as if you were just going from 0. The car has suspension lift, which is amazing for driveways and speed bumps! Something that they don’t really show you, is how to really control this car and which options you should have active while driving (for instance, keeping the eco setting on during the winter when first starting the car to keep the engine heating and also driving in active mode for the best results). I highly recommend researching or asking plenty of questions if you are new to McLarens! The exterior, in my opinion, is so superior to any other car on the street. It’s very futuristic and has such beautiful curves to it. I’m constantly noticing admirers every time I drive, though it’s not as crazy as if I was in a Ferrari or Lamborghini (if you don’t want as much attention as those this is the car for you). This has become my ultimate favorite car and would highly recommend it to anyone who can afford to buy and maintain such a beautiful car! I definitely recommend buying used as these, sadly, don’t hold their value as well as the other options, partly because they are still quite a niche company. I highly recommend this car to anyone in the supercar market or anyone who has the opportunity to even just rent one.

The McLaren GT provided supercar thrills in a package that can be a daily driver. I have used the car to go to the grocery store, runs to the mall, and commuting to work. Minor things like is that it still is quite low but can get over most bumps and ramps okay and have to make sure long rear clears corners in parking lots. Finding a parking spot that you can be assured to get in and out with opening of dihedral doors takes more time and parking where you aren't at risk of a scrape or bump is always a worry. The rear compartment does get warm so can not keep anything there that is going to be temperature sensitive. A big head turner so often will stick out where ever you are out and about, which can be good or bad. I have gone on weekend rides with other McLarens like the 720s and it seems completely capable to stay on pace through curvy roads with it's brethren. Think of it as supercar with more convenient features that you can drive daily and not a GT like Bentley, Aston or Porsche (yawn).
