Kia Corporation, commonly known as Kia is a South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It is South Korea's second largest automobile manufacturer after Hyundai Motor Company, with sales of over 2.8 million vehicles in 2019.

The 2026 Kia EV9 is a fully electric three-row SUV that continues to build on Kia’s push into the EV market, sitting as a flagship alongside models like the EV6. It blends futuristic styling, practical family usability, and strong electric performance, making it one of the more interesting large EV SUVs currently available.

Overview and Design.
The 2026 EV9 keeps its bold, boxy design language, which is inspired by concept vehicles but toned down slightly for production. It has a wide, upright stance, sharp LED lighting signatures, and a clean, almost geometric body shape. The front grille area is closed off as expected for an EV, with digital lighting patterns available on higher trims. The overall look leans more toward rugged SUV than sleek crossover, which helps it stand out in a crowded EV market.

Inside, the EV9 is designed with space and minimalism in mind. It offers three rows of seating with configurations for six or seven passengers depending on whether you choose captain’s chairs in the second row. Materials focus on sustainability, with recycled plastics and vegan leather options used throughout the cabin. The dashboard is dominated by a wide digital display that integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system into one continuous panel.

Performance and Powertrain.
The EV9 comes in multiple configurations. The base models are rear-wheel drive with a single motor, while higher trims use dual motors for all-wheel drive. Power output varies depending on the trim, but the dual-motor versions provide strong acceleration for a vehicle of this size, making it feel quicker than most traditional gas-powered SUVs in its class.

The ride is tuned more for comfort than sportiness, which suits its role as a family vehicle. It handles smoothly over long distances and maintains stability even at highway speeds. The all-wheel-drive versions also provide added confidence in rough weather conditions, which is especially useful in places like Ontario where winter driving is a factor.

Range and Charging.
Range depends on the configuration, but most versions fall in the approximate range of 370 to 500 kilometers on a full charge. This makes it practical for daily driving and longer road trips with some planning. One of the standout features is its ultra-fast charging capability thanks to its 800-volt architecture, which allows it to charge from around 10 percent to 80 percent in roughly 25 minutes under optimal conditions.

It also supports bidirectional charging, meaning it can power external devices or even supply electricity back to a home in certain setups. This adds a layer of utility that goes beyond just transportation.

Technology and Features.
The EV9 is packed with modern tech. The infotainment system includes navigation, smartphone integration, and voice controls. Higher trims add features like a premium sound system, head-up display, and advanced driver assistance systems.

Driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and highway driving assist, which can handle steering and speed adjustments on certain roads. Parking assistance features and a 360-degree camera system make maneuvering such a large vehicle much easier.

Another interesting feature is the ability to receive over-the-air software updates, allowing the vehicle to improve over time without needing dealership visits for certain updates.

Interior Space and Practicality.
One of the EV9’s biggest strengths is its interior space. The third row is actually usable for adults, which is not always the case in SUVs. Cargo space is generous, especially with the rear seats folded down. There is also a small front trunk, or “frunk,” for additional storage.

The flat floor, made possible by the electric platform, gives passengers more legroom and a more open feel throughout the cabin. The second-row seats in some trims can even swivel, creating a lounge-like environment when the vehicle is parked.

Pricing and Positioning.
Pricing varies depending on trim and options, but the EV9 sits in the mid-to-high range for electric SUVs. It is generally more affordable than some luxury competitors while offering similar space and technology, making it a strong value option for families looking to go electric.

In Canada, incentives and rebates may apply depending on the province, which can help reduce the effective purchase price.

Pros.
Spacious and practical three-row layout.
Fast charging capability with 800-volt architecture.
Strong tech features and modern interior design.
Available all-wheel drive for winter conditions.
Competitive pricing compared to similar EV SUVs.

Cons.
Large size may be difficult to maneuver in tight urban areas.
Base trims have lower range compared to higher trims.
Charging infrastructure can still be a limitation depending on travel routes.
Not as sporty as some smaller EVs.

Final Thoughts.
The 2026 Kia EV9 is designed to be a practical, forward-thinking family SUV that fully embraces electric technology. It does not try to be the fastest or most luxurious option, but it balances performance, range, space, and price in a way that makes it very appealing. For families in Canada looking to transition to electric without giving up space or capability, it stands out as one of the most well-rounded options currently available.

While driving to see family 260 miles from home in our 2012 Kia Sorento with our 3 children and dog in the car, the engine started making a "knocking" noise. No check engine light came on and we had no warning. Since it was -10 degrees outside and we have our 5 month old baby, we tried to make it to the exit. Unfortunately about 2 miles after the noise started, the car completely died! We pulled over and tried to restart it with no luck. This car has 62,000 miles. That's it! Tow insurance ended at 60,000 miles (of course) and we had to sit with the state trooper because it was so cold outside. The dealership we had it towed to was very helpful (Prestige Kia Eau Claire, WI). However Kia headquarters was awful to us. No help with a rental or the tow. Turns out the engine is seized and needs to be replaced. Garbage! We will never buy another Kia. Now we have to drive all the way back to get our car. Very unhappy!

In March of 2012, I purchased a new 2012 Kia Rio. Not long after having it, the radio would not read CDs. I had it in the dealer service department several times, and I would still have the same problem. The dealer finally decided to replace the radio with a "re-manufactured one". The refurbished one that was put in was even worse than the original one. It would freeze up, go out, and do things without me touching it. Also, I would lose control of it, and it would even stay on after the car was shut off, key taken out of ignition, and car locked. I took it to another dealer to have them look at it. And after a long period of time of having problems with it, it was replaced again with yet another refurbished one. It worked okay for a while, and now all of a sudden, when turned on, there is no sound. There is no sound whatsoever when I run the volume knob up and down. I am fed up with Kia for their products and service! I will never buy another Kia! I am in the process of filing a lemon law claim with the BBB. They should buy this vehicle back after countless sorry attempts to fix the problem and I'm still having trouble out of it!

I purchase a 2016 Kia Sorento. Ever since day one I have safety recall issues which none of the Kia dealerships can fix it, GAS PEDAL, AIR CONDITION, BACK DOOR, SEAT BELT, BRAKES etc. I have contact Kia corporation, they are a JOKE. They never return calls so now I'm doing everything I can to let all know how this crocks operate. They just sell you the vehicle and just deal with the problems yourself. I have report them to the BBB, Department of Justice and DMV, investigators do all the same together, will make a difference. Let's all report this crooks to all this departments to put them out of business.

I have a 2014 Kia Sorento. The first year and a half the car ran great without any problems. Since then I’ve had to replace the alternator, the serpentine belt, the fuel injection system, oil pan gaskets, and now a radio that is also my backup camera display and Bluetooth. I’ve always done my service checks, synthetic oil like is recommended, etc. I’m beyond frustrated that every single one of these have gone bad and somehow, every single time Kia has said it’s not covered under their warranty. The car is only 6 years old and less that 100k miles even at this point! This radio has been reported thousands of times on these vehicles and is still not included in any recalls. It will be over $700 to fix. I’ve already spent thousands replacing things that would’ve been covered under other car manufacturers. Nobody would even consider buying this vehicle if they knew the issues beforehand. Please be wary!

I was driving my car and the engine failed. It ignited on fire and was "Total-ed." The fire department and police came and put the fire out. I filed a claim on the day of the accident (August 18) with my insurance company that I have progressive insurance with. They have consistently lied to me and will not give me answers. All I am told is that they are still investigating and keep telling me that they will find something out. It just never happens.Because of this, I don't have a car to use since the incident and this has caused me real stress. My car is under warranty so I need someone to help me out.

Kia has very disappointing customer service. I bought my Kia back into 2012. It is a 2013 Kia Sorento Ex. I have approximately 89,000 miles on it. My oil check light started coming on and off (it would flicker). I brought it into Kia and they said that my oil pressure sending unit is failing and that is why the light was going on and off and it would need to be replaced. They quoted me it would cost between $800-900 to fix. However, when I bought my Kia I got an extended all power train warranty good up to 200,000 miles. They said that it wasn't covered under the warranty though. Even though the actual part cost is $25 (where it's located in the engine is why the labor is so expensive), but if you read the reviews of Kias, this is a huge failing part of the car. Many people have issues with this and it's very common in kias. So why wouldn't they recall the part? They recalled them back on the 2011 models, but not the 2013. They are still a big problem. If this part fails, my engine would be destroyed. So then does Kia cover the cost under my power train warranty? It's a joke. When I called Kia to complain of this issue, they couldn't give me an answer after I asked them this question. It failed on my car while it was parked in my garage. I woke up to find an extreme amount of oil on my garage floor under my car. Checked my oil and there was zero in it. I had to have a service come to my house since my car was unable to move without ruining the engine. After replacing the part and labor it costed me $502.00. I would never buy a Kia again.

I was driving my 2013 Kia Sorrento on Interstate 95 at 8 am on the morning of 8/11/14. Clear day, nothing out of the ordinary. I had 2 co-workers with me and when I looked in my rear view mirror I noticed the sun in the eyes of one of my co-workers so I pulled the shade on the sunroof. Less than a minute later we all heard a loud bang out of nowhere that sounded like a gunshot. Immediately following the sunroof exploded into a million little pieces that rested on the shade I had just pulled. If I hadn't done that, we would have all been pelted with the glass and who knows what kind of injury or accident would have occurred.

I purchased a 2013 new Kia Soul in December 2012. I took the car the Kia to have it looked at because it ran hot once so I didn't drive it again until I took it to the dealer. Let me add, I am still until factory warranty and have about 69,000 miles on the Kia. I was told that the engine was gone. I said "how so when I had maintenance done." KIA denied to fix my car and states I have to 5665.00 to get my car fix, in which the used engine is 2115.00, 954.00 for test ran on the car and the rest is labor and parts. I hope this helps someone. My car is still at Kia and I don't know what else to do.

I purchased my Kia Soul in 2015 at Kia Of Asheville in February of 2015. I haven't had any problems until this morning. I was coming back from vacation & I was an hour away from home. While going up a mountain, all of a sudden my clutch started shifting on its own without me even putting the clutch in (The engine light didn't come on either) then there was a strong burning rubber smell in the car so I pulled over turned off my car & turn the hazard lights on and called my mother-in-law. A few minutes into our conversation my hazard lights died and I could not start the car. I called Kia roadside assistance and they came and picked me up and took me to the Kia dealership where I purchased my vehicle in 2015.I have been driving manual transmissions for more than 20 years, my last vehicle the clutch lasted almost 6 years before needing replaced. I have never had my clutch and battery go out at the same time. Kia of Asheville is saying that it's not covered under Warranty but they need to get into the transmission to know for sure which will cost more money! They called me back with a worse scenario cost of $1500 unless it's caused by something under the warranty. But Why would I buy a battery from Kia if this one only lasted a little over two years? And what about the clutch!? There's only 50,000 miles on my car & my clutch should of lasted at least 100,000. I know a clutch is a wearable part but it's strange that the battery and clutch went out at the same time because they're two separate entities.I think there's something else going on and I'm afraid Kia is going to say the Warranty is not going to cover this. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm reading all the horror stories about Kia and it's got me convinced that I won't buy another Kia. I found out Kia & Honda have a lawsuit against them for the type of wiring they use. Did I make a mistake in buying my car?

I just wanted to share my story. We bought a 2014 Kia. Shortly after my purchase I discovered I was charged $2100 extra for a service contract (100000 mile warranty). We put a large sum down on the car and would have only owed around $6000. When I checked my paperwork turned out I owed $8000. The dealer had charged me for an extended warranty that I didn't want. So I had to return in person to Cancel after almost two months - the dealer finally sent Kia finance a check for $2100 dollars. So I called Kia finance and ask them to adjust my payments - didn't owe as much money on the car and they told me they would not redo the payments because I agreed to the original payment. I had never heard of anything so asinine in my whole life. Turns out we had to get the car refinanced to lower the payment. What a bunch of rude jerks. They wanted me to pay the same payment on a lower balance!
