When you think of spectacular Porsche restomods, your mind probably goes straight to Singer, or perhaps even Gunther Werks. However, Paul Stephens and its Autoart program are right up there with the best, and its new 993R is proof of that claim. According to the company, the 993R was the result of a customer who "wanted to enhance an original 993 by 25% in every area."rnBased on the narrow-bodied 993 version of the Porsche 911, sold from 1994-1998, PS Autoart ensured that every nut, bolt, and body panel is perfect - a process that took five years. And to ensure that the driving experience is just as good, the company has put "several thousand test and development miles" into its new creation. The customer who ordered this car spared no expense and worked alongside PS Autoart to find the right balance of rawness and driver comfort without adding electronic driver aids or an adaptive exhaust system. And when it comes to the source of power, the customer chose beautifully, specifying an enlarged 3.8-liter motor with a 997 GT3 crankshaft, RSR pistons, PS-designed camshafts, and Porsche Motorsport solid lifters. This boosts performance from the original 272 horsepower at 6,100 rpm to 330 hp at 7,400 rpm. For those who want an even more visceral experience, a 360-hp version is available with an 8,500-rpm redline. Similarly, torque has been increased to 265 lb-ft at 5,675 rpm, while the wet weight has been reduced to 2,690 lbs, less than even the dry weight of the original. A six-speed manual, five-way adjustable suspension, and enhanced brakes all help provide a rounded experience. The 993R also boasts an integrated roll cage, various composite panels, and numerous upgrades to the cabin. Among them, the original electric seats have been thrown out in favor of carbon fiber buckets from Recaro. Similarly, the electric windows, central locking, glovebox, center console, audio system, air conditioning system, redundant switches, and interior roof lights have been deleted. Fortunately, it's not completely bare bones inside, as a lighter electric A/C system helps bolster comfort. Then again, you can choose to delete the airbag and replace the original steering wheel with a Momo piece. With original 993 RS discs and calipers that retain anti-lock braking, as well as 996 GT3 RS front and rear wheels wrapped in 18-inch Michelin Pilot Sport rubber, handling is sure to be spritely. Pricing has not been revealed, but no five-year build is ever likely to come at a bargain.

This is a quick report as Porsche ownership is very subjective. Have owned an older Porsche Boxster since 2013, and must mention its easily the best car I have ever owed in 40 years. Mine's old, but its like an old race horse, it might be old but its still a race horse. If your lucky enough to own any Porsche, make the most of it whilst possible, before all vehicles become electric and loose their ability to excite the spirit and imagination.
