Subaru Automobile Model 2025 Subaru Ascent

2025 Subaru Ascent

The 2025 Subaru Ascent is a three-row midsize SUV built for families who value space, capability and all-wheel drive. It seats up to eight (or seven with second-row captain’s chairs), and is one of Subaru’s larger-sized offerings aimed at delivering practicality with confident performance.

Powertrain & Performance

Under the hood is a 2.4-litre turbocharged flat-4 (Boxer) engine producing approximately 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque

The engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and full-time Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is standard.

Towing capacity is rated up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, giving this SUV respectable utility for trailers or boats.

Ground clearance is roughly 8.7 inches, enhancing its capability for light adventure or rougher roads.

Interior & Practicality

Seating is for seven or eight passengers depending on configuration. Higher trims offer optional second-row captain’s chairs (for seven-seat layout).

Cargo and family usability: The Ascent offers reasonable space for its class; while not the largest three-row SUV, it covers daily family duties well (school runs, trips, gear).

Feature upgrades: For 2025, Subaru has introduced new trims (like Bronze Edition and Onyx Edition Touring) and added more standard features across the lineup (e.g., upgraded safety tech, larger infotainment).

Technology & Safety

Standard advanced driver-assist features include Subaru’s EyeSight system (adaptive cruise, pre-collision braking, lane-keep) and, for 2025, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are now standard across the range.

Infotainment: A large 11.6-inch multimedia screen is available, wireless smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) is offered, and premium audio is optional on higher trims.

Strengths

Standard all-wheel drive and good ground clearance make the Ascent competent for weather conditions, adventurous trips or light off-pavement use.

Strong towing capacity for the class (5,000 lbs) adds versatility beyond just passenger transport.

Excellent value: The 2025 model brings more standard features at a small cost increase, improving overall value.

Family-friendly: With three rows, a usable second row, and modern safety/tech features, it serves as a solid family SUV.

Trade-Offs / Things to Consider

The CVT transmission and flat-4 turbo engine provide adequate performance, but some drivers may find acceleration less engaging or the engine noise more pronounced than in luxury rivals.

Rear-row space and cargo capacity, while acceptable, may not match the largest three-row SUVs—so if max space is your priority, you may want to compare larger rivals.

Fuel economy is reasonable for the size, but because of the turbo engine and AWD, expect moderate consumption compared to smaller crossovers.

Option and trim choices matter: Higher trims (Bronze Edition, Onyx Touring) add many features but also budget impact.

Ideal Buyer Profile

The 2025 Subaru Ascent is a good fit for someone who:

Needs three-row seating (for family or friends) and wants decent versatility in cargo/gear.

Lives in or drives through varied conditions (rain, snow, gravel), so having standard all-wheel drive is a plus.

Values modern safety and infotainment features without stepping into premium-luxury pricing.

May occasionally tow a trailer, boat or gear and appreciates the 5,000-lb towing capacity.

Is looking for a balanced SUV—capable, comfortable, and practical rather than ultra-sporty or ultra-luxury.

Ive owned 5 Subarus including 2 Foresters. Three of my Subarus had 105,000; 121,000; and 167,000 miles respectively. Absolutely no problems. Youd think I could expect more than 90,000 miles on my 2009 Forester. No such luck. It experienced not just an engine failure, but a catastrophic engine failure. It was a total engine disintegration - crank, rods, cam journal, etc. All this with Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Subaru oil filters every 4,500-6,000 miles.Repair estimate is $6,200. Attaway Subaru. Well see what assistance Subaru corporate will offer. Other Asian manufacturers, GM and Chrysler, offer 5-year/100,000-mile warranty. I guess Subaru is so proud of its products it only offers a 60,000-mile drive train warranty. Also, the interior finish on the doors and dash is wearing off. Both fog lamp lenses cracked within a month and the auto dimming mirror failed outside of the warranty. I get parts at cost and its still $147. More to come with Subaru.

I was driving in the highway at 65mph when all of sudden I heard an explosion. When I stopped and checked the car the sunroof exploded as if someone had punch it from the inside. This is a new 2014 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid with only 9000 miles. The dealer now tells me this is very common for the Subarus. I had minor scratches and thank God nobody in the back seats.

New 2017 Subaru Forester with 2500 miles when has a small puncture while driving about 40 MPH. I immediately stopped the car and changed to the cheap junk spare. My local tire dealer examined the tire and said he could repair the puncture easily but the sidewall was delaminated rendering the tire unusable. Since he is a trusted friend, I value his opinion and the delamination was obvious. Subaru is selling cars with these junky Yokohama tires. Its my life and my familys that they put at risk selling this junk. I purchased the new Subaru based upon reputation and never thought to check the tires. Im now out $145 for a new tire as well as the inconvenience. Fair warning Subaru - I do not forget and I do often comment.

I bought a used Subaru Impreza 99 at a local used car dealership in Jax, FL at National Automotive on Blanding Blvd. I had test drove it a lot that time! Well, after only having it for 2 1/2 months and a lot of break downs and a bad oil leak, my motor getting hot and smoking! It finally broke down and then my engine locked up and now thanks to them, I have no car now!! It was always checked on, always adding oil and when I put $10.00 in for gas, it barely even gave me a quarter of a tank!! It ate gas like nothing and I didnt have the money to keep putting in my tank!! This car is a piece of crap!!! Dont buy any Subaru car whatsoever!! I dont trust no one that sells them! Theyre a rip off!!!

I had an Outback in 1997 and loved it... wish I had kept it. I recently bought a very well cared for single owner 2005 Outback 2.5i with 150K miles. I knew it had a minor oil leak... When it got worse, I fixed that, and while the engine was apart, put in many new parts including timing belt, hoses, thermostat, mounting bolts, machined the cylinders, etc. It was fine for 6 months and then had intermittent sputtering at idle and when starting to drive, along with after a slowdown off the highway to 35 or so and then speeding up again. I also noticed it was strangely low on oil, despite no visible leaking. My mechanic said that the prior owner did a (dealer-done) tune up without replacing the wires, so we did that and the problem seemed fine... for a while. 2 months later, same exact sputtering. One stall after starting the car and putting it in reverse but not driving yet. And... almost no oil in the car (again no visible leaks). Problem as yet undiagnosed so any feedback is appreciated! Also, minor complaints. Had to change the rear door latch when I got the car. The plastic latch that opens the gas cap keeps falling off. And now the drivers window button is sticky and sometimes doesnt want to make the window go up or down.

I bought this low- mileage 2019 Forester used and admittedly have only 4 months experience with it. Most things seem fine except for one BIG issue: from time to time there is no response when I press the accelerator. After 2-3 seconds it picks up again, but by then I could have been rear-ended! This is the same issue described by Margaret of Harrisburg and is not new. I found other websites dating back to 2015 with dozens of complaints about this same problem. This is a clear safety issue and should be the subject of a recall. I bought a Subaru because it used to be highly rated but, as I research this problem, I now find more and more complaints about this and other issues.Other things I don’t like include the auto-shutdown at stops. I had to turn it off because it caused a hesitation and was annoying. And the drivers manual is a mess — 550 pages with supplements and I can’t find how to, for example, dim the dash lights. It seems there’s never one spot that fully describes a function. Pages referring to other pages, referring to other pages that eventually come full circle. And the index is almost useless. Think “dashboard light dimmer” is there? Nope. This is only one function for which I find Google much more helpful.

Bought 09 Impreza in July of 09 w/ 12,000 miles on it. Continually had required service (3,000-4,000 mile). At 59,700 miles while having 60,000 mile service a seepage was identified from the left cylinder bank. The dealer noted this and stated that it would be monitored. Well they must either have failed to monitor it or kept the finding to themselves through the 8 next services because it wasnt until 97,000 miles that the gaskets must haves simply just failed. The dealer gave me a $2,574 estimate to replace them (and timing belt) to which I had to decline due to finances. I went home, researched parts cost ($300-$450) and allotted time for repair (8-10 hours) and was left a little bit in wonder that the dealers service garage was charging close to $200 an hour. (This was also the time I discovered all of the websites with titles like The Dreaded Subaru Head Gasket Problem.) I went through my service receipts, found the one from 57,000 miles that the seepage note and returned to the dealer to discuss the cost and attempt to make a deal, being as the seepage was recorded prior to the warranty expiring. Long story short: dealer said to call Subaru, Subaru offered $1000 dollars towards service, I told them while that would bring the price down to what a reputable private garage would charge, what I wanted feel more in line with total cost as the problem was first noted under warranty. Subaru said No, $1000 was all they would do. I told them that their help was as useless as the gaskets they put on their cars. I am now in touch w/ my State Attorney General and have filed a complaint with them. I am not looking for any monetary compensation, just satisfaction that a wrong will be set right.

In 7/2015 we purchased a 2014 Sub Outback w/ extended Gold plus package war
In 7/2015 we purchased a 2014 Sub Outback w/ extended Gold plus package warranty (an additional $1,295.00). In 11/2016 engine began to slip, stall & burn excessive oil. Took to 3 Sub dealerships in our area. All completed oil consumption test acknowledged excessive oil burning but cannot duplicate customers complaints of slipping or stalling. We continued to complete all recommended services through Sub dealership. At each time Techs would perform oil consumption test acknowledge excessive oil lost but cannot locate source. Customer should add oil every 2000 miles. At each visit we complained about slippage and stalling. At each visit they claimed vehicle was fine other than oil consumption. Side note our coolant was always overfilled...The kicker is we were in so much, we began to develop a relationship with the techs, to the point some of them would tell us that our vehicle needed a new transmission and we were right!! Then one visit to our surprise, The cust. serv. MGR approached us, apparently he had been going to bat for us and had obtained CORP approval for new Transmission. The dealership kept our Outback for 10 days. Came to pick up our vehicle. To our surprise the vehicle wasnt touched. Apparently the owner of the dealership felt he needed to look things over but couldnt do so because he was out of town. CANT MAKE THIS ** UP. He then told us he wanted to drive the vehicle to verify it did in fact need a new transmission. Keep in mind we have the GOLD PLUS WARRANTY package which covers the transmission!!!We took our Sub back and were told by the owner if we felt any foul play to contact corporate. So we contacted Corp and opened a case, spilled out all of our past issues and waited. During the wait our Outback began to make a weird noise from the wheel area. Well back to the dealership we go. Car inspected. Were informed the noise is from the tires. Supposedly tires were not fit for the car. So the vehicle, which we bought from them, had the wrong tires on it... OK so we buy new tires, noise remains. CORP. calls us back after their investigation found nothing wrong with our vehicle. Also tells us nowhere in their system did he see the dealership have our vehicle for 10 days?!?! So we then had to prove that was incorrect with rental car paperwork as well as receipts etc... Apparently after that CORP still found no foul play or issues with vehicle. On 2/17/18 we take our Outback to a certified 3rd party mechanic. Mechanic found transmission is about to give out, wheel bearing needs replacement, oil low (but they found the leak) and additional problems that were never revealed by the dealership. We have now composed a letter with our findings to Sub of America consumer complaint division in hopes someone will address this rogue dealership and assist us with our issues. If any of you have some useful information that will shed some light or assist us in our battle with this Behemoth it will be gratefully appreciated.

I am now experiencing problems with my 2013 Subaru Outback I purchased new from a dealer. I see on this forum, other who have similar problems. The oil light has come on several times and the transmission is surging and bucking at low speeds and while lightly loaded. Ive had the car serviced for these problems twice. The transmission is especially troubling as my warranty expires in 5,000 miles and they cant find the problem. (Design flaw?) So far, I spent hundreds on a throttle plate cleaning and an oil change that I didnt need. Subaru claimed that the oil was over serviced by Jiffy Lube. Okay. So drain some out and dont charge me $77 for an oil change. Plus, nth is didnt fix the transmission. Its still surging and bucking. Anyone else? Should there be a recall? Subaru might have the nicest people working there and might make a very safe car, but if its always in the shop, how would I know?

I purchased a brand new 2017 Subaru WRX roughly three months ago. Upon immediately driving onward I was noticing a really bad smell shifting gears and I brought it into a shop nearby. I had the service manager come for a ride-along to view my driving habits and he told me it was OK and that the smell would go away. Now, a couple of weeks ago, I was noticing the gear was tougher to shift into first, and then eventually the gears werent selecting properly. Id be in gear 3 and itd say gear 2, and so forth. Also, the biting point became completely non-existent. I took it into the nearest dealership with only 7800 km on the odometer and the clutch was completely gone.I called Subaru of Canada about it and as they reiterated many times throughout the conversation, the clutch was not covered under warranty since it was a wearable item. The dealership also said it was due to driving error. Upon doing research into this, Im seeing a lot of the earlier models are having the exact same issue and its the highest complaint on record for the 4th gen wrx in both the 2015/16 models - that cant be coincidence. Anyways, Im having to fork 1000+ out of pocket for the expenses and more for the rental Im using since the dealership didnt have any loaners on hand. The lady I was speaking to even said the clutch will go out that quickly depending on driving habits but Im a spirited driver, at best. And theres no reason a clutch should go out in less than 10,000km. Hopefully this helps anyone think twice about their next big purchase, especially the wrx, to actually do some homework and check into any policies or warranty information. This is my first Subaru and probably my last.

I leased a new Impreza from Ganley Subaru of Bedford, OH, three weeks ago and have been there for service four times already with still more safety issues hovering over my head. I discovered (the hard way) that all Imprezas have at least these problems: 1) The wheels are wobbly causing shakes and vibration. I have been to service three times to get them fixed, though it got better, it is still shaky. 2) The automatic unlock switch cannot unlock any door if the lock key at the door is in mid-way position. This is a severe safety risk in case of accidents if a person has to exit the car quickly after fire or flooding.3) The information gauges for gas mileage and distance of travel are practically useless and are off by 50% or more which means you can run out of gas if you rely on these gauges. 4) The advertised gas mileage of 32 MPG is questionable, since all information gauges give you the wrong readings. 5) After parking, the steering wheel gets jammed and locked and requires some wiggling effort to unlock it.

I recently purchased a used 2010 Tribeca 3.6 L engine, my first Subaru, and am rather pleased except for a howl in my automatic transmission. The sound changes as goes up through gears and especially noticeable from start through 2nd. Dealer has determined it is the alternator since engine speed also changes as gears change. Cannot believe any auto manufacturer would make their top of the line touring vehicle with this howl or whine as I have been told by others. Either way a defective alternator OR transmission needs to be replaced.

We purchased a Subaru Outback new in 2013, after many oil changes our car started using a quart of oil in between every oil change. Subaru says, it is normalto use a quart of oil in between oil changes. As time goes on, we have had it in numerous times and they cannot figure out why its using oil. Subaru has known that there is a problem and they offered an extended warranty for this issue. Again, I️ keep working with the dealership and they now say, we need a short block. Interesting that now we am completely out of warranty. They are willing to give me 1,000 toward fixing the issue. The completed bill will come to $4,400. I will admit the car gets around beautiful in bad weather but that is the only happiness we have seen in this car so far. We were hoping to get 250,000 miles on this car but at this point we will have to get a new one soon. Just a fair warning, read all reports before you buy a Subaru!

I own a 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT. I love my car! Its my baby and I take great care of it and great pride in it! I have been one of Subarus biggest fans since I was young, convinced my parents to buy a Subaru as a teenager, and have owned two myself; I have trusted and supported this company through the years. However, after recently after having repairs done for a broken turbo at one of their Certified Subaru Service Centers, my engine died due to the fact that their technicians did not remove the oil pan after replacing the shredded turbo (a standard and required part of their repair!). Since the repair, Subaru terminated the dealers service department (Vista Subaru In Glennwood, CO) and will not honor their workmanship! Subaru has outright told me that they will not help me with the cost of the new engine, even though their certified workers are at fault (for not completing a repair per SOAs explicit directions in a bulletin I will attach) and the cost of replacing their fouled repairs combine to put the money I have in this car at $27,789 (the base price of a 2011 model!) when purchased 11 months ago for $16,500! I put 9,000 miles on this car!I hope someone reads this and does the right thing by me! As a loyal Subaru customer, you are ensuring that I will bever have anything to do with your products ever again! I love my car, but as it lies with its engine out at the dealership, I realize that if this is how you treat your loyal customers, I must put my beautiful car to rest and move my loyalty to a company that knows how to treat its customers well!Love, its what makes those Subarus in your commercials different from mine!

I bought a 2012 Outback in February 2012. When I rotated the tires at 10,000 miles, I noticed that both rear tires were severely worn at the outer edges. The dealer had the wheels aligned. They were out quite a bit. But now after about 11,000 miles, the tires are worn to the tread gauges in the outer tracks. I dont think I will get 20,000 miles out of them. 2016 Subaru Outback limited - As my first Subaru and all the serious hype about how great this car is, I was personally very disappointed. Initially I was disappointed the limited had neither a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and power folding mirrors. The interior pocket room is very minimal. Glove and center compartment very small. I did not find it works for me as a parent of young kids. The backseat is small. The spacing barely contains a convertible reverse facing child safety seat. The materials are cheap and feel cheap.MY MAJOR COMPLAINTS and reasons I am offloading my Subaru are: THE BATTERY my car came with a 325 amp battery out of the factory. I live in NE. Its cold. The car is high electronics. The crank power of that battery was not sufficient. Imagine my amusement when the day before Xmas eve in a snowstorm. I am stuck at work because my car wont start. Upon replacing the battery in my practically brand new car the passenger side window stopped working. Easy fix at dealer but still the inconvenience of getting to the dealer. THE STARTER the remote starter is AWFUL.The range is very poor and it only works 50% of the time. Dealer refuses to replace. THE ACCELERATION Sometimes, when its cold the car does not accelerate as it should. It seems to really struggle. THE SOFTWARE UPDATES my car started stalling and chugging. It turned out to need some software fix. Yet another trip to the dealer with a brand new car. THE BLUETOOTH extremely finicky. Sometimes it just drops connection mid call and wont reconnect. No idea why.

I purchased a used 2002 Subaru Outback from Diamond Auto, 8213 Ritchie Hwy,
I purchased a used 2002 Subaru Outback from Diamond Auto, 8213 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122, 410-544-2496 on February 11, 2012 for $6,289.00. I initially contacted Diamond Auto on February 2, 2012 about the car, which I put down $1,000.00 security deposit to hold the car while they supposedly made repairs. I test drove the car and advised Milton of the repair items I immediately noted that needed to be fixed. Diamond Auto (Milton) informed me on February 11, 2012 that they had made the repairs and the car was available for pick up. I picked the car up on February 11, 2012 and stroked a final check to Milton for the balance due of $5,289.00. Milton stated if I noted any additional problems with the car, to bring it back. While driving the car home and a few short days later, I took the car back with a list of problems with the car. Oil leaks, alignment, check engine light, C02 sensors and rotors squealing. I explained to the owner that I could not keep running back and forth from Owings Mills, MD to Pasadena, MD about the car. The owner assured me that he would resolve all the vehicle defects and have the car delivered. A month later, the owner contacted me stating that all the repairs had been done and to get my address again. I gave the owner my address and he said he would deliver the car by a certain day. That day came and I had not heard from the owner or anyone from Diamond Auto. A few days later, Milton left me a voice message stating they didnt have a driver, etc. The owner contacted me a few days later, confirming the address again and to advise me that the drivers were on their way with the car. Also, he had assured me that he drove the car home, etc. and that everything was okay. A day after they dropped the car off, the check engine line came on again. I took the car to the Subaru dealer to learn that the CO2 sensors were not the problem, but the catalytic converters were bad. Also, the source of the continued oil leaks was a bad gasket near the converters and the timing chamber. They also revealed other defects that needed to be addressed. They quoted me a repair cost of $3,200.00 total. I could not afford that. I took the vehicle to Meineke. Meineke confirmed the converter issue, but also said that the left CV axle was bad too. They would also have to degrease the engine to pinpoint the exact location and source of the leakage. The total replacement of all the defective parts and related services totaled $1,398.00. Meineke also revealed that someone temporarily tried to mask a safety issue with the coils with Permafix versus replacing the bad parts. I contacted Diamond Auto today to advise them that they failed to make all the promised repairs and deliver a defect-free vehicle. You dont sell the car first, then make necessary repairs, etc. after the fact. They knew this car was in bad shape, but sold an unsafe vehicle anyway. They continue to take the position by telling me to keep bringing the vehicle back, etc. My position is they should have fixed the car properly before they sold it, not after the fact, and I should not have to continue to waste my time, energy, efforts or risk me and my families lives by driving an unsafe vehicle. Thats a poor business practice, thats misleading an unknowing customer and they put me and my familys lives at stake by knowingly selling an unsafe vehicle.

My 2010 Outback that has always been garage kept is rusting from peeling paint on the fender. Totally unacceptable for a 8 year old vehicle, as my old 2003 Outback that I still have in my family has had no paint peeling and has no rust... and that vehicle is twice the age as my 2010 thats rusting! Also have had numerous problems with the CVT transmission in my vehicle. Did I mention that my 2010 is always kept in a garage at my home and in a covered parking garage at my work?! My Subaru dealerships body shop was shocked at how thin the paint was on the fender of my car from the factory, they called Subaru of America to inquire about this and to see if anything can be done about this issue on their end. Subaru brushed it off as not being a problem. Shows the quality of newer Subarus are lacking, and that they are not what they used to be and dont want to stand behind their product. Im sure my 2003 Outback will continue to keep on going in the years to come. I know my 2010 will be dead long before my 2003 is. Sad, as Subaru was a great company with a great product. Not so anymore!

Heading to the highway, going about 35-40 MPH, the hood flew open and hit my windshield. Thankfully, it did not shatter it, but did crack it all the way across. I call Subaru headquarters and they pretty much said, Too bad for you! I called the dealership and they pretty much said the same thing. The tech at the dealership said I must have opened the latch from inside. Not sure why I would want to do that while I was driving! The car had been parked and locked in my driveway before I drove it so there was no chance of it being tampered with. I feel there should be an investigation into a recall, as it seems I am not the only one this has happened to!

We have owned three Subarus. The 2017 Forester being the latest. I was very excited about my new Forester until I was driving and it kept dying on me. Then a light showed up showing low oil, had only had the vehicle two months, called dealer they said bring it in they will check it out they stated nothing showed up about low oil, again two months later same problem while we were on our way to vacation again. Dealer said bring in. Same response, my husband talked to them and explained the other problems about it dying, transmission not shifting properly, rattling in motor. They told him to bring it in. They test drove it and told him nothing was wrong but did say they would charge us $95.00 an hour to fix it, now again same problems no response. The only reason we had stayed with Subaru is because we purchased a 2003 Baja and it has almost 300,000 miles on so we decided to buy another one in 2014. We purchased a Crosstrek. Had so much trouble with that car. Traded it in for a Jeep which by the way is fantastic, guess if we cant get my Forester fixed we will be trading it in also. Wondering if anyone else has had so much going on with their Subarus.

I purchased a Subaru Impreza for my wife on April 24th, 2013 with an agreement that they will order seat covers since the model did not have leather seats and we have 2 small dogs. They give us a certificate acknowledging it. After several visits to the dealership (Subaru of North Broward in Plantation, FL), we realized they had no intention of honoring the deal. When we received a survey questionnaire, we answered explaining what had occurred and provided a copy of the voucher issued by the dealer. On June 1st, received a call from Subaru of America. Mr. David ** who assured me that he will take care. We came to realized that Subaru does not make seat covers for the Impreza 2013. So he asked me to purchase a set and send him the invoice. When I call to speak with him, he had been promoted so Molly ** took over and she explained that the notes that David ** left said that was only for invoices from Subaru dealers. Well, they dont sell them. Im very happy with the car but the customer service is very poor. Going for a new car should be a reason to rejoice not regret and thats exactly how we feel. Bye bye, $387.95.

Brought our 2012 Forester Touring to the dealership recently, as the transmission seemed to be having issues between 2nd and 3rd gear. First trip took 2 days and a reset of the transmission to learn mode. This actually made the problem worse in our opinion. We brought it back, and it took a week for them to agree to replace the transmission, after different attempts to fix it. The vehicle only has 27,000 miles on it, and the transmission needs to be replaced? Something isnt right here.On a different note, we lease our vehicles, but no more Subarus. Chase is actually Subaru Motors Finance, and they could screw up a one car funeral. We had several issues with them, from double charging for property taxes to charging extra monthly payments. On average it took 5 - 9 months to get these issues corrected. Between Chase and what I am seeing for deteriorating quality from Subaru, Ill be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

Please, please, please STOP recommending Subaru cars as being reliable. I have purchased two of them based on Consumer Reports recommendations and both have had major expensive repairs. I am old, have had all the routine maintenance done and still have had lots of problems. The 2010 Forester (that was said to be a very reliable car) needed to have its head gasket replaced at 95K (turns out they had lots of head gasket issues) and the 2011 Outbacks CVT just went out, 3 weeks after the extended warranty expired (expired on July 31, 2018). As I stated earlier, I am old (retired) and cannot afford a costly fix on a car that is only 7 years old. I have contacted Subaru of America to see if they would help me and all they do is say that they are waiting to be contacted by the local dealer (where I took the car to be repaired) but the local dealer called me to tell me that they have called Subaru of America twice and no one ever responds. Does this sound like a reputable company? Shoot, if they are not going to help me, cant they at least tell me? Maybe they used to be reliable but that time has passed.

I bought a 2008 Subaru Outback for my 21-year-old son in May 2013 with 61,000 miles. Before my purchase, I had the car inspected and was told the head gasket was leaking. The dealer finally agreed to split the cost with me. My son travels 2,000 miles to school in Montana and has had two oil changes over the seven months that we have owned the vehicle. He had the local dealership inspect the vehicle before heading to Chicago for Winter break, and he had to have one of the front axle boots replaced for $400. On the way home with no warning in the middle of North Dakota, the oil light goes on and the engine dies. The local mechanic wanted nothing to do with Subarus, so my son took the Amtrak home at a cost of $270 and I shipped his car to Arlington Heights, IL at a cost of $775. I sent it to the dealer I purchased the car from and they said the issue was not the head gasket, but the oil pump, and I needed a new engine costing $4,200. Both the North Dakota mechanic and my local mechanic that I trust said the head gasket was leaking as well. The dealer did not agree and would not give me a new engine and Subaru USA declined any responsibility for this poor excuse for a vehicle. After reviewing several websites on Subaru customer complaints, there is a common theme of oil leaks and bad oil pumps. I have owned many vehicles in the 47 years that I have been driving, and have never had such major problems. There should be a huge class action settlement for Subaru owners. I will never buy another one and will voice my displeasure with anyone who will listen.

I have a 2010 Subaru Forester with no problems and the older engine. As you know, they switched to a newer engine in 2011 models, which have a piston oil control ring that wears prematurely and there have been a successful lawsuit which extends the engine warranty to 100K and 8 years with the stipulation that you have a Subaru dealer oil consumption test. I bought a 2013 Forester and the oil pressure light started coming on around 45k. I replaced the sensor 2 times based on Subarus recommendations because they pretended they didnt have a clue. How many thousands of complaints has Subaru had, and they act like they are innocent. To get a new engine, you have to get a TSB oil consumption test. Ive had 2 oil consumption tests. The first one the dealer overfilled and then filled up and told me it was normal. I complained to BBB and got my money back. I went to another dealer and this time I made them show me the oil level before I left, however, they also filled the engine back up, and told me there was no problem and they would never lie because they have newborns and they are honest. Right. Because Im a girl who has 42 years of experience working on cars, and I couldnt possibly know how to pull out an oil stick and check the level. So... the moral of this story is that unless you can get the dealer to admit you have low oil, you wont get the new engine. Which means you have to make them check it in front of you. Preferably with your camera rolling. Take pictures, get witnesses, and dont let your car out of your sight until they have the dipstick in their hands. Sound crazy? Try talking with the Subaru of America customer service reps. Youll be hanging up on them, guaranteed. Youll be so pissed off, you will wonder what the hell is wrong with this company. And it never ends. Its like a nightmare merry-go-round where your car is the POS. Plan on losing thousands along with these nasty ass people. I have now started documenting every time I check my oil and have to add it. I plan on posting on Youtube. Its very inconvenient. I carry two quarts in my back door. The 1st time was in Canyonlands, the second in my parking lot, which the 2nd dealer said laughingly, OMG a parking lot... Everyone knows a parking lot isnt level. So my next documentation oil check will have levels. I still love my Subarus, but its absolutely DISGUSTING that this corporation does not stand behind their vehicles. They knew about the problem and are letting their customers eat the costs. Problems that are documented by unhappy customers all over the web from 2011 to at least 2015. Im sure the 2016 and 2017s will have the same problem based on my dealings with this company. Can we say stick your head in the sand and pretend there isnt a problem? Ive NEVER had a car that burned oil at 45K!!! And from that point on, your peace of mind is OVER. Everywhere you go, you better remember to check the oil and put some oil in. Two quarts fits perfectly in the rear door... Just an FYI. Thatll get you down the road 2400 miles. Then you need some more oil. Im burning a quart every 600 miles, but Subaru tells me Im a dumb bunny... How would I know where the level is on an oil stick??? Dumb Bunny. Oh yeah, but the camera can see it... Really, the camera can see it, but the dealers cant? Now isnt that odd. Subaru consistently says there isnt a problem, but I have to keep adding oil because if I dont, Ill ruin my engine. And Subaru hopes that will happen.Subaru, you need to do right by your customers. You might be going strong now with sales of cars... but if everyone of those customers have the same problems with shady lying people that work in your dealerships, youll be lucky if anyone ever buys another car from you. Subaru is losing their loyal fan base. I have two Subarus right now. Will I buy another one? Not on your life. Because I dont buy new cars to open bug covered hoods, check burning oil sticks in 100 degree weather, crank open the hot oil cap and then add a half quart to go 400-600 miles. And then do it all over again and again and again. And then deal with a bunch of crappy liars. Camping?? Taking your relative to the Mayo Clinic 2000 miles away? Dont forget your quarts of oil, a funnel, plastic bags to put the oil in, something to wash your hands with because of the dirt and oil, some paper towels, and a hot pad. And a lot of patience. Dont waste your time with dealers or Customer Service. You will be much happier. At some point you will have to unload the oil burner. Who do you choose? A dealer or an unsuspecting person. I have the paperwork from Subaru to back up that my car isnt burning oil. How disgusting is that??? But youve got a Subarus dealers word for it. Does that tell you something? If it doesnt, it should. Buy a different brand. Because this is part of the Subaru culture when you buy one of those cool Subaru cars. Not to mention how unbelievable it is dealing with all the BS with the Customer Service people and Dealers. Mind boggling to say the least. And how many people have they screwed over??? Im one of them. I have a 2003 Honda Accord with 103,300 miles on it. No problems, and it doesnt consume oil. Ive had Toyotas who have rusted out, but the engine still wasnt burning oil and a Toyota RV that I drove all over the place with humongous loads on it, it never used oil. My POS 2013 Subaru burns oil like a sieve. Its a PZEV, which means its zero landfill. What about all that oil burning into the atmosphere and the extra oil every 600 miles? So for a 5000 mile oil change, its 5.5 quarts of synthetic 0W20, new oil filter and gasket for $39.99 and a quart of oil for every 600 miles at approximately 6.95/quart, which is 8.33 quarts of oil, at an additional cost of $57.92. Dont forget the aggravation of making sure you know when your oil is going to be low... like around 600 miles. Now this is me changing my oil using Mobil 1 synthetic. If you have them change it, its $58 to $116, and then add the $57.92, plus the aggravation, the BS and the absolute nothing that Subaru will admit to. Then you get to repeat, and repeat, and repeat. My advice, buy a Honda or Toyota or some other reputable brand. Ive had Hondas my whole life and Toyotas for over 20 years. No problems. My 2013 Subaru? The car itself is nice, but well, the engine is messed up. The main part of the car, and Subaru sells it to you that way. Some people pay $37K and get a bad engine. What? Huh? Read all the reviews you can. Because they arent liars. I love my car... I hate the engine, the dealers, and the car maker. Unless you want to pull the engine and put some decent oil control rings on the pistons, but Subaru didnt even care enough to do that and people are getting screwed. Its a really bad thing. The government should get involved. Maybe if there are enough complaints to congress.

I bought my 2017 Outback in May of 17 and for two weeks worked good. Almost no problems. Then all of the sudden EyeSight started malfunctioning and then the anti collision auto braking started up when no other vehicles were even around or in sight. The blind spot detection started going off and lighting up both mirrors. Again no vehicles around within at least a mile on a two lane road, at the same time it would suddenly brake with no alarm or any sort of notification. Then eyesight would turn off and not allow me to switch to cruise control (not adaptive cruise control). Then almost two weeks to a month after that I started getting noise from center console/front of vehicle area. So I took it to the dealership and they said it was bad tires. So I went and bought a new set, well that didnt fix the problem. Took it back in immediately and they continued to look over it and came back that they transmission, transaxle, and wheel bearings were all bad, so after almost two weeks in the shop I got it back and it worked fine for about a month. Then the infotainment system went bad, then blindspot again, then it started stalling out with AC on coming to a stop, which brings me to now. Now the noise at the beginning is coming back and the blind spot is acting up again and this time only near railroad equipment.I forgot the windshield broke a month after having it, not due to any rocks or anything of that sort. Just randomly popped and cracked all the way across staring from the passenger side. I bought the car with 4 miles on it. Now it has 56k and is always highway driven and never driven hard at all. The fastest the has ever been pushed was 85 mph passing semi trucks. I have started to notice GPS seems to constantly lose connection, but that could be because of the area I live in. There seems to be a lot of GPS problems up here so not that big of a deal.I have been in contact with Subaru of America throughout the whole ordeal and all they say is take it to the shop. Seriously no **. I thought I might try to fix it my self and void the freaking warranty. Subaru fan base seems to be loyal to the company no matter what even if they absolutely are freakin terrible. They have offered no solutions to the problems but besides take it to the dealerships shop and they will have to recreate the problem. Most times they fail to do so because its either not driven far enough to recreate it or its just not looked at that in-depth.Now I am seeing if Subaru will either compensate for time out of my work and having the car constantly in the shop and them selling a lemon, or just filling for lemon law. I am currently looking for options. I will never buy another Subaru ever again. I am done with being treated like an idiot from S.O.A. and being told to just take it to the shop. Its already in the shop once a month for oil changes which are outrageously expensive and tire rotation. When people tell you they are reliable dont believe them. Also when you drop almost $37k on vehicle you expect it to work, and on top of that I drive for my job and if I dont have a reliable and safe vehicle for work I wont have work for long. Anyway be very careful buying a Subaru and I advise if you do stay away from eyesight systems. Pretty much the only thing decent about the car is the looks somewhat. The only reason I bought the damn thing is because I trusted what people said about them being reliable and the amount of interior room and interior cargo space it had, but never again.

Im writing this review on behalf of my son who owns a 2014 WRX. On April 29, 2016, my son was returning to Plattsburgh, N.Y. from training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tx. He was about 40 miles west of Nashville, Tn., when his WRX blew its motor with about 15,500 miles on it. Subaru had the car brought to Downtown Subaru in Nashville, where it took 40 DAYS to repair. During the time it was at the dealer, we were lied to about the progress of the repair! As of today, June 27, Subaru has not reimbursed my son or myself for retrieving the car and car payment and insurance. Its a shame that Subaru treats military personal in this manner. I cant imagine how they treat the general public!

2014 Subaru Crosstrek - What a cool looking little SUV crossover. Loved it for the first 3 months. Then the steering wheel started locking up on its own, both when the car is on and when it is off which results in the ignition locking up. I have taken it back to the dealership - Earl Tindol Ford Subaru - twice. They have done nothing to fix it. They burned up 1/2 tank of gas and put 100 miles on it and told me it was pretty much my fault. I finally went to the dealership yesterday and demanded my vehicle back and drove up on a salesman/service man and some blonde chick pulling into the parking lot at the same time and getting out of MY Subaru. I left it there for repairs - not as a vehicle for Earl Tindol Fords employees to use as their own personal vehicles. I left a message for the dealership owner, but got no response. EPIC FAIL! My first and last Subaru and this dealership is HORRIBLE!!!

We purchase a brand new Subaru Forester in 2009 and the transmission went at just above 60,000 miles and just over 5 years -- warranty expired barely. We took it to Maple Hill Auto Group in Kalamazoo where they replaced the transmission. All the maintenance records were submitted to the warranty group at Maple Hill. All the preventative maintenance was completed by a reputable company who does a thorough job. We received backlash that some of the work was not completed at a Subaru dealer. The bill for the transmission was greater than $5,000 dollars. Maple Hill did not provide a vehicle and took 3 weeks to replace the transmission. When it was finally replaced, I paid for the vehicle and drove off. After 1 mile the vehicle would go over 25 MPH. I returned and told that they must have received a defective transmission from Subaru. I waited another week and 1/2 to finally get a transmission that cost over 5K. No vehicle to get through the time period and no assistance from the Warranty Group. We will never purchase a Subaru again. We have receive feedback from consumers who own GM products. They provide 100K warranties and they help assist with issues that arise just after the warranty expires. Do not purchase a Subaru. They do back their vehicle the way they should and expect you to overpay for service on their vehicles. They do not value customer satisfaction. They view problems with the vehicle as an avenue to gain profitability.

My first car was a 2005 Subaru STi. I drove it throughout college, about 100 miles a day, from work, school and back home again. It never let me down, and I drove the crap out of it. I sold it right before I got married and got a brand new 2013 Crosstrek for the wife (future) and a used 2010 Outback for myself. In just about one year I began noticing how low the oil level was when changing the oil on the Crosstrek. I change my oil every 3500 miles with full synthetic oil and a OEM filter. It was never low enough to set off the oil light, but I would have to add about 1.5 quarts between oil changes, which is not normal for any low performance naturally aspirated car. I brought it to the dealer and they said oil consumption at that level was normal. So I accepted the fact that I would just add 1.5 quarts between my 3500k mile oil change interval. At 30K miles on the Crosstrek, the blower motor started acting up, there was a hard start issue (probably crank sensor) and passenger rear wheel bearing was noisy. The dealer did not want to replace any of the parts under warranty. They did not even want to diagnose it. At that point I did not want this car anymore. Who knows what else might go wrong another 30k miles later. So I traded the Crosstrek in for a 2017 Forester Touring. Now the CVT on the Forester is acting up at highway speeds. I am waiting to see what the dealer has to say about this issue. Whether they are going to dismiss it and say its normal, or actually look into the service bulletins issued to see if something is applicable. This is quality and service I did not expect from what-used-to-be my favorite car manufacturer. So in short, the three (3) stars is for my old 2005 STi and my 2010 Outback. Everything Subaru produced after that is and was Junk. I will never purchase another Subaru again. Back to Honda/Toyota.

I bought my Outback new and have taken meticulous care of the car, religiously changed the oil and all of the customary tune ups. I do quite a bit of driving, having put 149k in less than 6 years but have tended to every update or replacement so to avoid any unforeseen major issues. Last year, my oil light came in which confused me since I had 2k miles to go before the next oil change. Went to check the oil and it was boned drive. Since then, I have carried extra oil - just in case this happened again. Did not think much of this fluke. Fast forward to a couple of months ago, I felt a noticeable decrease in performance. Took it to my mechanic and always got its fine.A month ago, noticed that my acceleration was compromised so my mechanic changed the engine filter and then the battery, which improved the acceleration slightly, but thought it was in my head. The car started to make a rattling sound after trying to accelerate over 60-80MPH; it felt that the engine was choking. I would not even pass other cars for fear of the car stalling; no lights came on. Then the next day, the dashboard went haywire with the lights (cruise control, solid engine light, traction control, and another light that I cant remember right now). Took it to another Subaru dealership in North Attleboro, MA and they hooked it up to the machine and told me that I needed OSV Valves for both side, code P0028. The cost of the valves were 235.74 and labor was 600.00, totaling $835.74, which I paid since I thought it was going to resolve this issue once and for all.I asked if the tech took the car for a test drive and they could not confirm this. I picked up the Subaru and drove off, the car had a slight improvement but not for the 835.75 repair. Called Subaru the next day, and drove the car back to the dealership. Had the general manager drive my car, and he felt that the car had no power to accelerate and that the transmission felt like it was slipping. This was Saturday morning. On Tuesday, the Subaru manager said that they were still working on it; they could not find the source of the problem and was on the phone with another Subaru department trying to figure this out. A day later, we got a text message stating it was my transmission leaking down internally. The cost to replace was $6040 and that did not include other parts and fluid. I wrote to Subaru since I feel that the Class Action Lawsuit of the excessive oil consumption may be related to the transmission. In addition, Subaru had replaced OSV valves and did not test drive the car to see if they remedy the issue. Lastly, why did the diagnostic machine pick this up? I purposely asked the tech, if there was another nested issue underneath the OSV valves; she answered no. The POO28 code was correct diagnosis. I will contest the charge for the valves on my Visa and have written to Subaru Corp about this issue. Between replacing timing belt, fuel pump, tires... this transmission would have set me back well over 10k. If I cant get Subaru to fix this for under 2k, I will trade it in. This car was great in the snow, but the seats were uncomfortable, poor visibility from the side of the car (blindspots were bad). Headlights are constantly burning out and Subaru response is to go to the dealership to get them replaced. Next car will be a Honda or Toyota.

My wife and I purchased this car and purchased the extended warranty, just in case. While on a long trip, the check engine light came on and within 10 minutes, I had lost all power from the turbocharger. The dealer informed me that the oil feed tube filter was clogged and caused the failure. This is not listed anywhere as to maintenance or inspection. Bottom line is, the dealer stated that my warranty is expired by three months and they wont be covering the costs. Ive owned several Subaru cars and was thinking of buying/trading up, but if your systems are not capable of even lasting to 100 thousand miles without a catastrophic failure, surely I wont be making any further purchases from your company. I change my oil personally every 3k, and the car has only 94k miles. What kind of product do you call this? So, what youre saying in your email is, Yes, were aware of the problem but were not responsible since we didnt issue a recall or even a TSB concerning this filter screen and we absolved ourselves of all responsibility regardless of impeccable maintenance per factory recommendations. Therefore, **. Really? Just how long do you plan to remain in business if this is how you operate? Sort of an already got your money, dude attitude? This car didnt even make it to its first timing belt change and thats somehow OK with you? I cannot believe a corporation as big as Subaru absolutely will not stand behind its product! As an ASE-certified master technician with over 25 years in this business, Ive been repeatedly asked about who makes a good car and without question, the answer wont be you, quite the opposite. Im absolutely appalled! Ninety-four thousand miles and a hidden, non-serviceable filter takes out a turbo and possibly the engine with it, and you say tough **!

Bought this car brand new and am meticulous about maintenance. Cvt transmission was advertised as no maintenance. Now they say it needs to be replaced at 150,000 miles and that this is a known defect! There was a horrible whining that started very quiet on and off in 2017 and became louder this year. We drove into a city intersection to turn, and the car stalled. We were lucky that we didnt get hit by another car. We took it to the dealership as we do all recommended maintenance and something was really wrong to make it stall like that. The dealership said that it is a CVT transmission, and they are known to have this problem. Told us to call Subaru. There was an extended warranty offered in 2018, but we never were notified of that and are the original owner. If we had the notification we would have had this fixed as it occasionally made the noise but it did not repeat when at our service center. We would have had the dealer check it if we knew about the problem and warranty. I expected a Subaru to last longer than this before needing an $9,000 repair. Called Subaru and they offered me $1,000 toward a new Subaru. I paid $36,000 for this car. I dont think $1,000 off one now is going to help me very much for a known problem with this transmission that put us in a very dangerous situation.

I purchased a 2009 Forester XT in April of 2008. Three days after purchase, Subaru announced a stop sale order on turbo Foresters made after Jan 1, 2008 (mine was mfg Jan 26th 2008). They issued the stop sale order because of manufacturing defects in the engine that led to knocking and then catastrophic engine failure. My car had knocking at 1030 miles and now at 92K the engine has had the catastrophic engine failure. Subaru refuses to answer the question if my car was affected by the stop sell order and takes no responsibility for repairing my car.

On June 25, 2015 I called Subaru Roadside Assistance due to a flat tire. The representative spoke very poor English and understood even less. I all but begged to speak to another rep or her supervisor but she refused to transfer my call. I was on the phone with this woman for 32 minutes and she still did NOTHING to help. I finally hung up and called the dealer from which I purchased my 2014 Outback. The service manager there ** is super and did indeed contact RA and made them aware that I had three children in the car and needed help. In the meantime my daughter who was 100 miles away called AAA and purchased their roadside assistance coverage and they had a tow truck out within minutes. Bottom line, dont depend on Subaru Roadside Assistance!!! They are good for nothing but a hassle. Totally frustrating.

Have had a 2010 Subaru outback for 3.5 years. Have done all required maintenance at subaru dealers. Had a gold plus” warranty for 1st 70k, sunroof stopped working at 71k, no love from Subaru. 1800 quoted for complete replacement of unit. 133k, took it to dealer for high pitch whine in front right. 2 hours later was informed that the cvt trans was failing and needed replacement, dealer quoted 7300 for a rebuilt from subaru or a used trans (salvage) for 3300. Warning: if you have a little old person driving a subaru with over 110k you might want to tell them that 7300 is not a good investment in a car with only 113k. These cars are supposedly supposed to last 250k or more (if you can afford these types of repairs) obviously I should have known that going in but I thought the new 2010-14 subies had all these great improvements. I have never towed anything and driven this outback anything other than gently, too bad loved the driving part, great on snow but can’t afford these types of repairs. Pleaded my case with North America Subaru, they would knock the 7300 down to 4200 at a subaru dealer. So that means the little old person would have been probably paid 7300 and I can see that happening. Short story is a tranny shop is going to put a used one in for 2500 parts and labor (friend of a friend). Maybe I just am not used to modern cars since my family has a camry with 198k and I had a tundra with 178k, 12 and 14 years old with no major mechanical repairs. Soon to be Subaru-free in the Midwest.

The Subaru Impreza has been fairly reliable. I appreciate how great it handles in the snow and rain and other extreme weather conditions because it makes me feel safe. I chose this car because it was affordable in price and great qualities for its price. However, I wish it were easier and cheaper to maintain. The maintenance required to keep up the car has been very pricey and annoying. I also wish I had a higher more upgraded model that has nicer interior parts like leather seats.

I had talked my mom into a Subaru Legacy 3017. I took it in with less than 2000 miles saying it shows the oil is really low. The tech looked at it and said oh its fine and I could not believe it but it showed full at the dealership. The next time I checked it in the drive it showed low again. I thought well there is a slight slant to the drive. That must be it. We had the battery go dead 4 times over the winter. I mean to the point that my jump box that will start my pick up that someone hit in the rear end. I only drive it when I have to haul something so its usually pretty dead. It will start it right up it took forever on this one. Today I am totally lost as to why I called several places and I just get told each place, Oh you need to call here or there. I called about the maps part of this on a 2017 Subaru Legacy that just came from being serviced at 3100 miles and it does have problems they cannot duplicate. I was a Service Manager for GM for years and a service writer. I LOVED the job, but I could at least answer some questions. I have yet to get one question answered. I was going to buy a used Subaru from the same dealership but at this point, I think I will stick with a GM car... I can at least get an answer. I first started to ask if I need to PAY for Starlink to be able to use the maps as every site I look at says with Starlink and maps its so nice. I have not once been able to get the maps to go anywhere by voice commands if I do get a response other than being told she did not understand. Then I would get other states coming up... It took 15-30 minutes to manually get one time the map to work right and every other time I just grabbed the Garmin and said well they have always been my choice of GPS and very easy to get to a location. I asked this girl where the SD card is in the vehicle. She said well didnt I go to that site. The one I am at now and I said YES and have already downloaded the toolbox but on a video, it said they could be located in several different spots. She said call toolbox as she only deals with Maps. I said isnt this all part of it. She said no. Is there anything else she could help me with. I said, I guess not. You did like every other Subaru Phone number I called... telling me to call someone else. They had no idea about Starlink or Sirius or what I was talking about. My next call is going to be to the Attorney General since NO ONE wants to help at all... but boy they were sure there to sell the vehicle. I honestly was going to get a Subaru until I seen how hard it is to get 1 question answered and I had several to ask and was cut off every time... I do better calling DirecTV or my Insurance Co. and they get me to my boiling point after all the BS. I think they need a Class Action suit as we just had the oil changed they said they had to do an update for the battery. The next time I go to drive it the Nav system kept telling me it didnt understand or would send me to other states. I tried to put it in manually and had trouble. I called and got that run around. I have the feeling if we dont pay the Starlink yearly they will even lock you out. I read about that on other sites. One being the piXXed off the page. I am VERY VERY dissatisfied the way I have been treated so far. I just drove the car without the radio on and think I had better check the oil myself as it does not sound right at all... I think I will stick with GM and not get a Subaru like I was going too... Best wishes to all Subaru owners. I did talk to a guy at the after-hours place and I said I would just wait until they are open Monday since he said he could not help at all with why nothing was working.

I replaced the factory battery after ~48 months. The new (alleged) 8-year battery from Costco worked as it should for one year. I went in for knee replacement surgery and did not drive the car for just under 4 weeks. When I tried to start it the battery was stone dead. My brother in law charged with a new, high-tech charger that let us track the charge values. At ~70% I tried and it started happily. I drove it for 30 minutes and hoped this was a one-time problem, like an interior light left on.A few weeks later I hooked up a utility trailer: this worked fine in the past, now the lights on the trailer come on and will not go out, even when I pull the key out (this shuts off all exterior lights). I listened to NPRs Wait Wait Dont Tell Me, and forgot to take the key out. Two hours later the battery was stone dead again. This is a new problem. I am sure its the car, not the battery, but the battery wont take more deep-cycles. Ill probably test Costcos battery warranty, but its not quite fair.

This is the best car Ive ever owned. Although its an SUV, it rides very well - not hard like my Jeep Renegade did. Passengers in the back seat tell me it is very comfortable. I have the Limited model, so it has some great features like Subarus Eyesight. That feature is a game-changer for driving. I will never own another vehicle without that. I feel much safer since it keeps me from drifting into another lane, can brake quickly in an urgent situation and, best of all, driving on the highway with cruise control, the system adjusts your speed so that you never creep up too close to another vehicle. Its a must have for long distance driving. I love the fact its all wheel drive. I feel much safer driving in rain and snow. Traction is awesome.Im super happy with my gas mileage, too. Average driving around town is usually upper 20s. On the highway, its always in the mid to upper 30s. I tested it one time on an open flat interstate -- no hills, steady speed of 63 mph with the AC on. The computer readout showed 44 mpg. Ive compared the computer read-out to the old-fashioned way to determining mpgs and its usually off by about 3. That means I got over 40 mpg with the Crosstrek! The Crosstrek has a CVT transmission (continuously variable, not gears) and, although a good number of people in Crosstrek social media groups complain about it, Ive never had an issue. Its smooth and even feels like a regular automatic. The other typical complaint is that the engine doesnt have enough power. Is it the fastest car Ive ever driven? No. Does it have incredible pickup? No. But it gets the job done. Ive never had an issue, for example, pulling out onto a highway. Overall, 5 stars for this vehicle.

Complaint and concern for our 2014 Subaru - We are having problems with oil usage, and have had the car towed and had to call roadside twice. The oil light comes on and there is very little oil. We have taken it in and discussed this with the Courtesy Motors in Chico where we bought the car. They say this is a normal thing with Outbacks. What do you say about this? We are tracking the oil ourselves and it is using oil. We cant afford to be on the road with a problem. Please advice. Thank you.

When I brought my car in for service on Friday May 15th 2015 the problems were hesitation to start and ticking sounds in the engine. ** your service manager advised me to leave my car overnight for repair. When my husband arrived on Saturday morning 05/16 to pick up the car after receiving a call telling us the repairs were done he paid the service fees $695.52. Because DEVOE of Naples Florida dealership is advertised as an authorized Subaru service center, we trusted that our car was service properly. After paying for and picking up the car from your service center, while driving home the car suddenly stalled and stopped in the middle of traffic requiring to be jumped and towed home. The following day Sunday the car continue hesitating to start. Again the car needed to be jumped and taken into a repair center for analysis. Mechanical analysis showed that the battery was worn unable to hold its charge supply energy to the engine. Being in your service center overnight was more than ample time for your technician diagnose and replace my battery. After becoming stranded being jumped and towed to replace a worn battery totaling charges $140.00. Your excessive service charges were unnecessary when all my car needed from the beginning was a replaced battery.I am requesting a refund due to excessive maintenance charges and inadequate services totaling $405.39. I am totally disappointed in your service center: will never buy another car from your DEVOE dealership or use your service center again. Your service center over charged me, didnt repair my car, and put me and my family at risk of being killed in a car accident.

Our first experience at Subaru City was great, we loved the car and we decided to buy the new Forester Sport, the cars sale representative was amazing and helped us with everything we needed to feel comfortable, which unfortunately due to covid they didnt have stock, so they ordered the car for us with all the modifications we wanted (as per Subaru website), we signed some paperwork and waited.Everything Was okay until yesterday, the pick up day! The day you should expect will be a great experience picking up the new car. When we arrived the employees we dealt with to get to this day were amazing with us, great customer service! We then signed (SIGNED) all the paperwork to finalize everything, they get our car keys and went with us around our (new to be) car to show us all the specifications, functions, etc... Until one of the employees came to us and said we wouldnt be able to get the car! (When the keys and paperwork was already in our hands).Continue to explain due to a problem that our car was having (since day one we stepped on Subaru) they would need to review with the mechanics to know if the market price would have to change or how much would be to fix (which in the employees words could be up to 10k) - we were looking for cars for months, all the dealers first question was about this problem with the computer in the car which doesnt affect the car engine performance at all - and all of them also said, we cant give you a market price for the trade in until we know how much it is to fix this problem, and JUST THEN start a contract. However at Subaru was different, one of the staffs saw the problem, went to next door to ask what would be the market price, and came with 30k WHICH WE SIGNED IN THE CONTRACT. The employee said they would understand if we didnt want to follow with the contract after knowing how much the cost would be.This morning my partner received a call saying that the problem was going to be 3.1k to fix, and possibly more to pay for repairs if it wasnt the cause, my partner needed to pay it upfront as they couldnt put in the contract due to all the arrangements already done. My partner decided to walk away from the car deal as the employee explained to myself and my partner yesterday that its understandable, which my partner wanted to get his car back, to fix the issues (yesterday we didnt pick up the new car, we had to leave ours there, and get a loan car which they gave us a near empty tank car which my partner had to put fuel in), and this same employee then said that its a little bit more challenging than that to break the contract now after mentioning we can back out of the deal due to the inconvenience. So now, we are currently without our old car, without our new car and without knowing what is going to happen. I also remember really well, during our first paperwork signing that one of the employees said that the market price for our car would change ONLY if we had an accident during the period of waiting for the new car or something that WAS NOT reported at that day happened to the car. The experience my partner and I encountered with the experience customer manager was terrible, Unprofessional, disrespectful, careless, not trustworthy, non loyal to the contract we signed. We were in contact with SUBARU City for at least 2 and a half months, since day one they knew everything about our trade in car, and their employee wanted to do all this in the minute of the key handling. Congratulations, you ruined what should be an amazing experience for a couple.

We have a 2009 Suburu Forester with 8,790 miles on it. We drive relatively little compared to many families, and have taken excellent care of the car, meeting all of the required inspections. Last Sunday (Oct. 31st) ,as I backed out of a shopping mall parking place and started down the aisle toward the exit, the car gave a sudden sharp, powerful acceleration, as if the accelerator was pushed down hard. It lasted only a couple of seconds, and did not cause a problem. It did not reoccur the next day. However, on Tuesday (Nov. 1st), it happened again, this time causing a small accident. My wife pulled out of a parking lot on to a small side street, immediately making a left turn toward the main thoroughfare. The car gave the same sudden, sharp acceleration as she was making the turn and, as a consequence, the right front tire slammed into the curb on the far side of the side street, before she could brake, slashing the front tire. Although only one tire was involved, we had to buy 4 new tires (at a cost of $616).We are making two requests: 1. Reimbursement of the cost of the new tires 2. Investigation of this potentially dangerous condition to be sure that it doesnt happen to others.

I want to highlight 2 specific points about Subaru Finance. Reference to my purchase of 2021 Crosstrek on Nov 2020. The Finance rep provided me false information that they checked with Chase and the best rate they could offer we was 4.49 and if I purchased extended warranty they can offer me 4.29. My Credit Score > 800 and I have multiple financial relationship with Chase. I was told chase has all access to my information and based on the current market situation this is the best rate they can offer. Being a Saturday evening I couldnt verify. On Monday I went to the branch and asked for details. I was surprised to learn that they didnt get any inquiries. So I asked for what my rate would be for new car financing. I was offered 2.39.(I have email proof of this). To add to that - Even the refinance rate which I checked with BoFa was 3.49 and Credit Union offer me 2.99 (I have proof of this as well). Over a 72 month term that would have translated to an additional $1500 in interest. To gain business, I have to believe the finance manager blatantly lied that they had checked with all the banks including Chase and based on my credit score this is the best they can offer. I did reach out to finance department and customer relations. But once the sale is done, they seem not bothered to even respond.2. I was charged document and fees and told the title and registration will be taken care and I will get the refund for my 2019 subaru crosstrek from DMV once the transfer the title from me. I have paid $725 for 5 years registration just in April 2020 so had the prorated refund of 4.5 years to be refunded. 2 months fast forward, I checked even as of today on AZ DMV portal. They have not even notified the car as sale per my DMV website and Title was still under my and the credit unions name (have taken the printscreen of the same too). And I have not got the refund either as of today.I was also not provided the price which I had agreed to for which after speaking the dealership person said they will speak with the GM and get back to me. Again the Finance guy provided misinformation on cost of ownership stating that it includes the interest I would be paying which doesnt seem to be true. I followed up few times since but they never got back on this. I had sent a detailed note on this as well. For any concerns/arbitration - Dealership had asked me not to reach outside till I have discussed my concerns with dealership. I have been patient enough thus far, but as I have not heard back on any resolution/remediation from the dealership I am writing this review. Based on all the above points I have to believe Subaru Finance has been provided false information and unethical practices to get my business.

My 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX consumed excessive oil, resulting in bearing pieces being circulated throughout the engine ruining it. This was my first Subaru and my last. I called Subaru but was told the car was out of warranty. Even though the engineering was defective the company would still not stand behind its product. I am currently having to pay over $8,000 for a new engine & labor. Have never been more disappointed in anything that I have bought ever. If a company knows its product is defective you would think they would have an obligation to offer pay for at least part of the engine. Awful, awful experience. Im going back to my German built autos, never one problem with them.

My spouse and I recently purchased a brand new 2013 Subaru WRX STI. Before signing our agreement, we stated that we could see an orange peel look in the factory paint. The salesman and sales manager stated that they would have it cut and buffed, which should remove the orange peel look (my spouse nor myself do not have experience with auto body paint, so we reluctantly decided to sign the papers being as it was a brand new car and we figured that the cut/buff process would really remove the orange peel factory defect look). They cut and buffed it and it will not remove the orange peel, so we decided to take it to a reputable auto body company in the area we live in. Once we spoke with him, he stated that to totally fix this factory paint defect, the car would need to be pulled completely apart and totally repainted. That comes in at around $6,000! We just spent $40K. We cannot afford to put another $6K into the car. So we contacted Subaru.com and they sent a rep out to look at the paint. The rep stated that there is not a problem with the paint! Not only can the salesman see the orange peel as well as other workers, my friends, etc., but the Subaru rep doesnt come on! They also stated that they would not take any opinion from any auto body place besides the one they use. That in itself seems fishy. If they say nothing is wrong with the paint, why wont they get a few other opinions? They are just trying to cover their rear ends and not make right. If you read online about the orange peel effect on auto body paint, it clearly states that its caused from improper application of paint - whether it dried too fast, they didnt apply it correctly or the paint itself has a defect. We have owned over 20 cars in the past 12 years and have never had a car with orange peel looking paint. We have never owned a Subaru and this will certainly be the last! The factory is cutting corners to make more cash and get over on the consumer since most people dont notice this issue unless you really look at your car. We have been up and down with the Subaru dealership and have contacted the owner to see if he will make right on the fixing of the paint. We are awaiting the answer from him. I can only hope that he will make right on it. We love the car otherwise and shouldnt have to live with something that looks so bad! My husband just received a phone call stating that we are not allowed back at the dealership and to not contact them any longer! Not only did we already prepay for service up to $45K, but we also were told that we are given free car washes for the life of the car! This is ridiculous! I will never purchase a Subaru again!

2017 Subaru Forrester (manual transmission): My oil light first came on at 3000 miles and I have been fighting Subaru for the past year to address the excessive oil consumption. Subaru lost a class action lawsuit for oil consumption problems and continues to sell cars without changing the design. I would not recommend a Subaru to anyone as you never know if you will buy a defective one. My passenger seatbelt alarm also goes off when no one is in it and the paint is pitting. Subaru lacks integrity and I will never buy another one.Updated on 07/18/2018: I write this with the sincere hope of preventing others from experiencing the same issue and stress that I have. Please research “Subaru oil consumption problems.” You will find Subaru lost a class action lawsuit, which was settled in 2016, but they still continue to produce and sell cars with oil consumption problems. I encourage you to visit several online consumer forums, like CarGurus, and read threads from real people with similar experiences. Subaru and Big Island Motors told me that those reviews dont count, as they cant be verified. You can verify this. I bought my 2017 MT Forrester in December of 2016 at Big Island Motors in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. My oil light first came on at 3000 miles, which began my 2+ yearlong battles with Subaru and Big Island Motors. I initially dealt with the service manager, who blamed my driving style, the weather/Hawaii, my commute, my lack of mechanical expertise, among other things, and refused to acknowledge the problem. After 6 months of fighting with the service center, in desperation, I contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (in the summer of 2017). He required the service center to conduct oil consumption tests. This process took about 6 months and many hours off of work for me. I failed 3 of them, which the service center said qualified me for a “new engine.” After they submitted the paperwork, this spring, I contacted them after 2 months of not hearing anything. I was informed/warned that I might have to wait for a year for the repairs as others were in front of me. Finding this unacceptable, I again contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (last week and a year later!). Initially he responded with concern, but then I heard from the service center that I needed to come for a compression test. Subaru generously provided me with a rental car for this test and, wait for it, the test was normal! The VP of Subaru informed me yesterday that he had forgotten that I drive from Kohala to Waimea every day and that downshifting is likely the reason why my car is consuming oil. I asked him why so many of the Subaru commercials showed people and their dogs camping in the mountains if they could only be driven on flat roads? My Honda, also a MT, used ZERO oil on the same commute. He further shared that I needed to keep driving my car since they don’t know what’s wrong with it (hello? class action lawsuit). He also retracted the promise of a new engine. In the meantime, I continue to add oil, purchased by the case from Costco. Check out “the Subaru Love Promise” on their website, “Subaru and its retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our promise to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.” That is unless you have a problem with your car, then that Subaru Love Promise is not for you. If I can save just one person from experiencing the stress, additional expense and disappointment I have, this post will have been worth it. BTW, if Subaru had the customer service of Costco, there would be no other cars on the road. Costco lives the Love Promise.

I bought my third new Subaru last fall and noticed the drivers seat shifted forward and back about 1/4 in each direction. Every fast stop or start you notice the seat and your body shift slightly. I took it in the first time and the dealership said that it was within tolerances. On the second visit after contacting Subaru corporate they told me that I had the seat too high and that had I lowered it the movement would stop, but they were going to replace the entire seat anyway. I waited for 3 weeks until they finally told me to take the car home until the seats come off of national backorder. The third visit they replaced either the seat back or the entire seat depending on who you speak to, but the seat still moves even if it is lowered. More calls to Subaru corporate to finally be told that the movement is within their tolerances. I told them I would never buy another Subaru and they were okay with that. They dont seem to care about the quality of their cars any longer and dont seem to care if they lose customers forever.

We bought a manual 2014 outback in black. All of the rear windows come tinted (not optional) and it is a safety hazard, because the dark tint makes it nearly impossible to go in reverse at night due to severely compromised visibility. There is no back up camera on this model. At 5400 miles, our clutch slipped in stop and go traffic on a long steep hill in a snowstorm. Fortunately had enough left to get to our destination, but there was a horrible smell of clutch fluid for 60 miles. The dealer blamed our driving skills on the clutch failure, although my husband and I have driven standard transmissions for 30 years each and have never killed a clutch. They replaced the clutch, But the next one is your responsibility. For 4 months after the repair, we still smelled clutch fluid.Tonight I was backing out of a steep driveway and noticed the familiar nasty smell of clutch fluid and prayed that the clutch wouldnt slip again. Crossing my fingers that well get the normal life expectancy out of this clutch, but suspect that it is very poorly made and will fail again. Would love to know how many others had the clutch fail in an extremely short timeframe.

Being a Subaru owner brings peace of mind to many drivers. With an all-wheel drive transmission that is supposed to be the best in AWD, and an engine that is supposed to go 300 thousand miles, many people feel like they made a good choice in purchasing a Subaru. However, I have news for those of you with false hope. My car made it 30 thousand miles before it needed a new engine. The whole engine was replaced which cost about 10,000 to repair (what I was told by the technicians). A field technician inspected my car for abuse; of course he didn’t find it, instead he found that it was a manufacturing defect. One month later I got my car back.At 33,000 miles my car was once again “like new”! However, only 26,000 miles after a new engine, a “defective camshaft pulley” broke causing damage on my camshaft, valves and overall one of the heads. I was simply driving down the road and it felt like the car ran out of gas and it would not turn on again. Subaru did not cover the tow. Once again they repaired my car which took another month. I would like to mention that they did in fact cover the repair once again because my car is under warranty. The 2nd major repair was also a few thousand dollars. One mile down the road from Subaru (Bob **, Subaru, West Lafayette, IN) a carelessly installed fuel-like sprayed gas all over my hot engine! This has honestly put my life in danger. The car could have caught on fire or blown up!!!These bad repairs and “defective” parts from Subaru make me feel like my sporty car is made out of glass. I drive my “sports car” like if it was an old car that could break at any time. OF COURSE I NEED EXTENDED WARRANTY. My car is a little over 1,000 miles away running out of powertrain warranty. Keep in mind these repairs happened 1 month ago. Later I got into contact with Linda **, the Subaru of America Customer Service Supervisor, and she said there was nothing she could do to help me. Such a massive company like Subaru could not offer help for a defective car they sold me. They could not offer me extended warranty, they could not give me extended warranty at a discount, NOR COULD THEY EVEN SELL ME EXTENDED WARRANTY. Im not asking for anything more than extended warranty from whoever you would like, or the $2,000 it costs so I can buy one.How can Subaru not do such a simple thing? They sold me a defective piece of junk and I have to deal with it. They do not back up their own cars. I would not recommend that anyone buy a Subaru in the United States. It will break. It will be expensive. And it will certainly not last 300,000 miles. If you have warranty, at the very least it WILL be an inconvenience not having a car for a few weeks while it is being fixed. Please tell me if you think my car will make it 200,000 miles at least.I am very unhappy with the customer service Linda ** provided me with. She did not do anything towards helping me. She did not meet me halfway nor tell me who I could speak to that would solve my problem. She also talked to me in a disrespectful tone which honestly could just have been her “customer service” voice. I need 100,000 or 4-year extended powertrain warranty. Is really impossible from Subaru? Please know I am awaiting for this issue to be resolved.

I purchased a new 2011 Subaru Forester in May 2011. In June 2013 I had it in for its 30K mile check up and the engine was leaking oil. It was the camshaft. Took it to the dealer, they said it would be repaired under warranty. They had it for 2 weeks, said it was repaired and all was well. About 2 months later, the symptoms of the camshaft leak started again, so I took it back, they repaired it and said all was well. In Dec of that year at about 37K, the car stopped starting. Guess what it was, the Camshaft. Took it to the dealer, they put shims in and said it was a known issue so it was covered under warranty. They gave me the car back and about a week later I get a call saying the parts they ordered are in. Im thinking what parts, the car is fine. It wasnt they had to replace all of the gaskets and some of the pistons due to improper wear and performance. I feel as though I rent this car from the dealership. Its only driven occasionally (about once a week) with the exception of the winter (I live in CO which is why I bought it in the first place). It has also had trouble with its fuel gauge and now the battery. Not only will I NEVER buy another Subaru, I wont recommend them either. Subaru knew about these issue and sold the car anyway without correcting them, they just put out service bulletins. What a SHAM and a LEMON. Seriously, NEVER AGAIN.

I purchased a used 2000 Subaru Outback in November 2011. The rear K-frame rusted through and the rear axle came loose in December. I paid nearly $1000 in parts and labor to replace it. A week or so later, I found out from a friend that I should look into a recall they had heard about. I came to find out that Subaru had issued a recall on that very issue. The sprayed undercoat for the 2000 Outback was insufficient and caused the rear frame to rot at an advanced rate. I contacted Subaru and they directed me to send them a copy of my bill for the damage, which I did. They took forever to get back to me and denied my claim, even though they contacted my mechanic and I was willing to submit pictures of the work in progress. They cited that the gentleman who had done the work was not a New York State registered mechanic, which he is not. Had I known of the recall, I would have had it taken care of the problem with a properly registered mechanic. I would have taken my car to a dealership for crying out loud. I took care of it on my own the most inexpensive way possible. Subaru should have reimbursed me gratefully as I probably saved them a large sum doing so. I feel they are being unfair and I should be compensated.

In June of 2013 I picked up my brand new 2013 Pearl White top of the line Subaru Outback. 2.5 years later, I am sorry that I ever fell for their PR spin! Within the first 2 months I had returned to the Dealers Service Department with a complaint of the engine surging on acceleration, poor gas mileage, and the check oil warning light coming off and on. I was told by the Service Manager that Subarus dont do that and that they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. The problem has been intermittent throughout the time that I have owned the vehicle. Within the last 2 months this issue has worsened to the point where the engine will suddenly surge forward and then suddenly decelerate, at one point almost causing a collision with another vehicle. I complained of this problem again while on a service appointment for another problem concerning the sudden and intermittent loss of power steering while the vehicle was operational. Again I was told that the vehicle was fine and that mechanics could find no problems. Recently (within the last 2 weeks and less than 1,300 miles into a new oil change and service) the check oil warning light has again started to come off and on. On checking the oil level this morning we found that the oil level was at the bare minimum and down over 1 qt. of oil. On doing some research we have come to find that all of these problems have been ongoing and legitimate complaints for this year and model of Subaru. There is in fact a current lawsuit in progress against Subaru of America for the oil consumption issues in the 2.5i L engine in the 2013 Subaru Outback. I am VERY disappointed in both the product and service offered by Subaru of America and I will never purchase another vehicle from this company. I also urge others to steer clear of the PR hype. In this instance it is definitely a case of buyer beware!

In 2014 I bought my first Subaru Outback (a dream of mine since I first got my license) for $26k at Bill Kolb Subaru in Orangeburg, NY. It was one year used with only 7,000 miles on it and immediately started noticing problems. The first problem was that it consumed an outrageous amount of oil and would always need an oil change. I talked to the dealership service about this and they assured me it was completely normal (IT WAS NOT!). My second problem was this rattle sound that apparently is a problem with all Subaru but really is harmless as far as Im aware. The third problem is that many components of the car started to fail including the catalytic converter which cost me a hefty amount of money and turning this car into a money pit.I used the car a lot in the two years Ive had it. I got 130k miles on it now. Going home one night the car started making noises and turned off suddenly. A mechanic told me it was the engine which Subaru later confirmed. I have maintained this car very well in the last two years, and its been at the Subaru Service department too many times for no fault of mine. I recently discovered a class action lawsuit against Subaru for oil consumption that ultimately damages the engine like mine did on Google after searching. It was apparently too late for my car to be serviced due to my mileage even though I never received any notice or was told by the service people about this problem (they knew about the lawsuit and the settlement the whole time I was having issues). This problem will cost me 10k to fix. I will never buy a Subaru ever again and I encourage people to think twice about the brand and to do more research on bad companies who refuse to take responsibility on THEIR mistakes. DO NOT BUY SUBARU!!!

One of my Outbacks tires were punctured. I had to go to a tire shop to fix it. They said I need tires from the same company and I have to change two at a time. I agreed and two tires were replaced. In a month the difference between front and back tires caused the power train to become damaged. The dealership said that whole transmission needs to be replaced, but because the manual says that no more than a 0.25 should difference is allowed between tire thickness, there was no manufacturer guarantee. They said that there is a light on the Subaru dashboard that signifies it: If the AWD is flashing, driving can damage the power train. As soon as you can, park in a safe place and check your tires to make sure theyre all properly inflated and the same size. It never went flashing.Subaru is the kind of car that is supposed to drive in rural areas, farms, forests. If there is a difference in tire diameter in such a small amount – it should not damage the car to a point of a price that is a third out of the cost of the car. If there is that possibility, a warning should be posted on the dashboard, because it is major a damage to car. In this field – Subaru failed completely.

I purchased my 2008 Subaru Legacy in 2016 and absolutely love the car. Paint defects on new 2018 Forester. Took to service dealer, told the paint chips were caused by rocks hitting car. How do rocks hitting a car at different times create the same consistent size chip on ALL paint chips? Plus how come the passenger side shows no paint defects while the driver side is constantly cropping up new rock hits? The hood is showing paint chips is getting ready to lift again, perfect little tiny circles, no dents, just paint gone to the bare metal. I had a 2006 Nissan, NEVER ever saw problems with the paint. When heavy debris hit my Nissan, it dented the car but left the paint intact, had my Nissan for ten years and never ever saw paint chips exposed to the metal.

I stupidly believed the marketing and didnt do my research. This is an unsafe vehicle. The head unit says 60 miles left. Drops to 40. Then runs out of gas. Never let this car get to a quarter tank. Ran out of gas at midnight coming home from work. I had to leave my car in the middle of road. And bonus! Had to deal with a creepy dude harassing me! Fun. Luckily a nice couple scared him off. Subaru finally recalled this car for this specific issue. They need to replace the head units but wont do that. We had this gas issue fixed before the recall. Be aware. It took two weeks and was messed up. Xmode stopped working which we didnt find out until we needed it on a gravel road in the mountains. Also the software didnt match the features of the car. It is a messed up situation and I feel like an idiot buying this expensive car. I will never buy another and never recommend this car to anyone. The marketing is great. The car is not.

Extremely disappointed. I purchased a 2010 Subaru Forester from Bloomington in October of 2020 for nearly $9,000. 9 months later it broke down on the road and requires an engine replacement. I spoke with the manager and was told Sometimes used cars break down. Theres nothing we can do. I emailed Subaru directly and received no reply. There are no laws to protect consumers from faulty used vehicles, but good customer service, I think, dictates a $9k vehicle should last more than 9 months. I will not be going back to Bloomington Subaru nor will I ever purchase a Subaru of any kind.

Subaru Forester 2015 got broken windshield after 1 1/2 years. I went to a glass dealer who contacted Safeco Insurance who approved replacement. Then 1 year later, the EyeSight started giving trouble. Eventually it quit working altogether. The Subaru repair place said the problem was an aftermarket windshield I had purchased and they would not fix the EyeSight until I replaced the windshield with a Subaru brand windshield which cost about $1000. The Subaru man said the glass and insurance companies all know about this. But the glass companies say they have no problem with aftermarket glass and Safeco says they take no responsibility unless I use one of their approved glass companies. So now I have a Subaru with no cruise control with all of the companies telling me that the EyeSight problem is my fault because I didnt know to get an official Subaru windshield by an approved Safeco installer and they wont fix the EyeSight until I make everything right again at my trouble and expense. I used to think Subaru is a good and reliable brand name, but I change my mind now after the transmission failed after only 6 yrs on the road. The mileage is just around 98,000. Luckily that Subaru has extended the powertrain warranty that I dont have to pay a costly repair. This failure on CVT transmission should be a recall rather than giving out extended warranty. They said that the reason for this warranty extension is that it is not a safety concern!! Really??? What if my outback got stalled on a highway, would this cause an accident. For sure in my opinion. What if my car transmission failed just after the warranty expires?I own a 2011 Subaru Outback, by the way. I also own a 1998 Sienna van from Toyota. And the transmission is still fine. Toyota has put money in Subaru, I think they should reconsider their take. And luckily that last summer I bought a second hand Toyota RAV4 for my daughter instead of Subaru. We bought two Subaru Outbacks in January of 2012, and they both had windshields that cracked in the same place under the same conditions about four months apart. It was a cold day and while sitting there warming up the car, there was a pop and a crack from left to right about five inches up a long crack appeared. The first time the dealer claimed that there was a rock hit when he ran a ballpoint pen across the crack and found a pit, which I knew wasnt there before he dug his pen across the glass. This second time, I made sure that there was no pit along the glass before I brought it to the dealer, but he insisted hed be able to check it with a pen. I watched as he dug the ballpoint across the crack until he found a microscopic spot where I saw him pop out a minuscule piece of glass and claimed it was a rock hit and therefore not covered under warranty again. Anytime glass cracks, you cannot conclusively say that the crack will stay intact without finding a microscopic pit or weakness where the glass expels itself. This is a scam. We have seen other Outbacks on the road with the same crack. We even pulled one over and asked the owner, and she said the same thing happened to her windshield. This needs to be investigated.

I have been denied for a warranty work for a Certified-Pre-Owned car that I own which only has 18,000 miles. The car has been broken down in the middle of the highway, and vehicle has not been starting since then. The vehicle has been towed to the nearest local shop and it has been there for roughly 4 weeks now (since 09/09/16). The local dealer (Subaru of Tacoma) has informed me that vehicle has experience “engine seizure” meaning that engine has failed operating due to lack of oil in the engine. I have given them all of the proof of the maintenance record, and they sent it to the Subaru of America to get approval for warranty work. I have waited patiently for 3 weeks for dealer to get back to me, but they have not been very communicative with me. So, recently I have decided to call Subaru of America myself to figure out whether or not they have received the proof of the maintenance record to proceed with the process. They have told me that, they have received the file, and told me that they have decided to not provide with warranty work due to “lack of maintenance”. They have stated that, it is my fault for not regularly changing the engine oil, which it has been done every 6,000 miles or 6-month according to the owners manual. In the manual, the Powertrain Limited warranty is 60,000 miles/5 years and I was dumbfounded to hear that they won’t do it since it is my fault for lack of maintenance. This is not only an engine problem, but also a safety hazardous concern. When my vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway in I-5 state highway intersection, I was scared to death as I was afraid someone might rear-end me real hard. I could have been seriously injured or even cause death on that day. When I called 911 for help, I waited in my car with the emergency signal on for 35-40 minute hoping nobody would hit me from the back.I can’t understand how there wasn’t a single indication that indicated the driver how low the engine oil is there in the motor. Not a single gauge popped up alerting the driver that there is low or no engine oil. No check engine light, No low oil light, no Nothing. It just stopped in the middle of the highway endangering my lives and the other. I have 2015 WRX STI, and I had this vehicle for 4 months till this problem has occurred. I have bought this vehicle thinking that the Subaru is reliable, durable and worthy brand that customer can trust and drive without stresses. However, now I’m faced with need of new engine replacement to the vehicle which would cost more than $17,000.Im wanting to approach this problem thoughtfully as possible and legal way to receive fair service that is promised in the owner’s manual. I’m writing my story down here hoping to get a help, and to collect information on if anyone else is experiencing same problem as I’m. Feel free to send me a email on my case. Thank you for reading.

My 2016 Subaru Foresters CVT transmission failed catastrophically at 42,000 miles with no prior warning. Vehicle would not move and made grinding sounds. Had it towed to the dealer and was told it is still under warranty. I asked about the failure and was told by the service techs that they had never heard or had a problem with the transmissions before. When I told them that Subaru has had numerous problems with the CVT over the years I was told that I did not know what I was talking about and that they never had a problem. I had researched the CVT problems quite a bit beforehand and was upset by the way I was treated. I now have a vehicle that I no longer trust and a dealer that will not ever get my business again.

I was coming to a stop at the end of a dead end street when my 2010 Subaru Outback shot off like a bullet from 10mph to about 30 mph in less than 2 seconds. I hit a tree and sustained severe rib injuries (3 broken ribs) and a lacerated finger and my passenger dislocated his hip and suffered a broken leg. We were lucky not to be killed.

I have a Forester with about 25,000 miles. The overall experience with the car is reasonable to good but the customer service and specific knowledge of their representatives is not only negative but almost aggressive and unqualified. They call themselves customer consultants and at 15,000 miles wanted me to pay close to USD 3,000 for a routine inspection in order to maintain my warranty. The car is already extremely expensive in Brazil, and going by the book, the service personnel continuously threatens their customers to void the warranty if the maintenance book is not signed and all recommended services provided. This is an absurd attitude and contrary to what a reliable vehicle should be about. At 25,000 miles, I had to replace two rear tires because of uneven wear. The front tires touch and wear out the plastic wheel cover behind the front bumper, and nobody can tell me why. The wheels and tires came with the car when I bought it from the dealer. Please contact me by e-mail to further elaborate on this fiasco of the Brazilian Customer Service.
