The company had a problem with the sunroofs of 2014s. They did provide new carpeting the first time our car flooded, which is an admission its the companys fault. But now nothing and were left with a flooded, mildewed car, which by the way induces asthma. Terrible response from the company. Will not buy a Subaru again.

As many other reviews I read and contained in this page, a 2007 Subaru Outback did not give any warnings, did not overheat, just all of a sudden a clunk sound, and it had to be towed away to the mechanic who says that it needs a new engine. After reading all the other reviews, it has help me to make the choice of giving it up and cut my losses now. I have to say that purchasing this vehicle brand new was a very poor investment. I thought I was going to be able to have it for many more years, not just 7 years. It is too bad Subaru doesnt take any responsibility for its faulty mechanism. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY OR RECOMMEND ANOTHER SUBARU.

We have a 09 Outback that has weather stripping falling off the back door. We took it to Ganley Euclid, OH about 3 times and they said we have to live with it. Next, we have both lighters/chargers that have pulled totally out of the sockets. I cannot believe everybody that paid $30,000 for a 09 Subaru Outback is putting up with this poor workmanship. We have owned 20 years of Subarus and have lost our commitment to them.

New 2017 Subaru Forester with 2500 miles when has a small puncture while driving about 40 MPH. I immediately stopped the car and changed to the cheap junk spare. My local tire dealer examined the tire and said he could repair the puncture easily but the sidewall was delaminated rendering the tire unusable. Since he is a trusted friend, I value his opinion and the delamination was obvious. Subaru is selling cars with these junky Yokohama tires. Its my life and my familys that they put at risk selling this junk. I purchased the new Subaru based upon reputation and never thought to check the tires. Im now out $145 for a new tire as well as the inconvenience. Fair warning Subaru - I do not forget and I do often comment.

The horn on my 2009 Sabaru Impreza started to sound spontaneously while sit
The horn on my 2009 Sabaru Impreza started to sound spontaneously while sitting in my driveway. My son finally removed the fuse (my 21 year old son drives the car most of the time). This was in April 2011. We took the car to the dealership and they determined that the horn was damaged due to excessive outside force and that my son must have hit the steering wheel repeatedly with his fists or a hammer. The price to fix the horn would be $966.80 plus tax. My son loves the car and takes very good care of it. He told Donna that he did not damage the steering wheel and she told him to just admit it. The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago and the young man finally admitted it, she said. Again, my son said that he did not hit the steering wheel. He saw a tiny dent in the emblem on the steering wheel about a week after we got the car. But he didnt say anything to me and said he didnt want to bother the Sabaru people about it. It didnt interfere with the car at all and it wasnt worth complaining about (he knows better now). Now the cars inspection is due and it cannot pass without a horn. I have talked to the service manager and customer service. I have had several phone calls (long ones, as it takes about 30 minutes to get through to anyone) and learned that the Sabaru company has an excellent system for keeping a customer from speaking to anyone. I think they invented the run around. The people working in customer service are nice at first. But as they keep putting you off and you keep calling, they get more and more rude and abrupt. I spoke to Jeff, Bill, and finally Shirley. Shirley offered me 50% off the warranty rate which she said was $800. When I asked what a warranty rate was, she said that if the warranty is in effect, there is a certain rate that the customer pays. No warranty means the non-warranty rate which in my case she said was $1400. She said, Thats our final offer; take it or leave it.” She said she thought it was a very generous offer considering I did the damage myself. I told her that was exactly the point: we did not do the damage. I was skeptical about her actually being a customer service rep. So, I asked what her job title was and she said she was the customer relations manager for the entire region, whatever that means. I have written a letter to the corporate headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ and a letter directly to the president of Subaru of America. I went back to Mid-Hudson Sabaru to try and reason with them. They again said that I or my son caused the damage. When I said that was not true, the manager said, Well, thats our determination and what you say really doesnt matter.” Also, I asked Donna if the $966.80 was the warranty rate or the non-warranty rate and she said it was the non-warranty rate. Then, I told her about Shirleys conversation with me and suddenly the $966.80 became the warranty rate. Donna said she actually did not know where Shirley got the $1400.00 price from. I told her that Shirley said she got the figure from her. Donna said that was not true (and they say Im lying!). Manufactured figures, lies, back peddling, avoidance behavior, and general disrespect have been nonstop since this problem began 9 months ago. I told them I would not pay the $400 as I did not cause the problem and it should be covered under the factory warranty and that my integrity was not for sale. They said, Whatever. Sabaru couldnt care less about my problem. That’s a nice company policy. I told the service manager, Rob, that I might as well give them the car back as we cant drive it uninspected. I said, I bet youll fix the horn then. He said, Of course. Then it will be ours. Dont buy a Sabaru. I never will again.

I have had at least 10 problems with the light bulbs on my headlights. The bulbs are not cheap and a lot of people do not know exactly how to put them on, very unsatisfied with this problem. Some dont even last 3 months. Is this a defect in this model? Every mechanic says they are hard to get to, to replace and want to charge high labor. Is there something that can be done about this? I love my car but this is getting aggravating. Thanks.

I currently own a 2015 Subaru WRX that I CANNOT DRIVE. I had an issue where the pitcher stopper mount. Literally tore itself off my firewall. I came to find out that is was a design error from manufacturing date. I called them to get this claim settled so I could go on about driving around and enjoying my vehicle. Well as of January 2020, they denied my claim stating the air struts installed on my vehicle were determined to be the problem. Well... thats weird; I put those on 5 days prior to even going into the dealership. Well I went on about seeking ways to get this repaired until around late August of 2020 I saw a TSB posted by Subaru in 2017 showing that this repair was to be fixed under warranty no matter what. Well, I was lied to by the first rep who was taking care of that back in January, let me call again with this new info and see what they would be able to do for me. And so I did. I was told by this new rep that this TSB expired in June of 2019 (which I was not even mentioned or told about) and basically said, Good luck, that isnt our problem to deal with. I cant drive my car without having any drivability issues and I am currently looking at my options because I cant afford a $2000-3000 bill for a problem I didnt do. Honestly, I am beyond upset with how Subaru handled this and wish they let their customers know when there is issues that have to be looked at before just kicking us to the curb. Ive been a loyal customer for 10 years but this will be my last Subaru I ever own.

My engine all of a sudden started to sputter and shake. No lights came on and I pulled it into a parking spot immediately and shut it off. I then checked my oil and my level was so low it did not even read. I was exactly 3,000 miles from my last oil change. I then had two places check out my car before attempting to drive it home. I made it halfway and then had to call to get towed because my engine was giving out. I have had problems with my Subaru Forester 2010 in regards to the drivers side window getting stuck and not closing properly, the radio changes stations without any reason, the window washer fluid container leaking but leaving no trace a mile away after I refilled it, and finally the interior lights not working at all after a year of having the car. I am just very frustrated with this car and makes me wonder why I didnt chose a Honda when I had a choice and chance. Thought I was going for the safer and better car because it had a great track record. I will never choose a Subaru again.

Note: This is my 4th New Subaru and mostly like my last. I have had my car in at the Subaru dealer 6 times since 12/6/14 for the SAME issue and most recently 7/6/15. The issue is with Low Oil Levels. They performed 3 oil consumption tests and I have been told twice that they replaced a sensor and performed an upgrade on the software. Note: Each time I took my car in for this issue, the Oil Can Light was on and the info screen on the dash information window displayed Check Engine Oil Levels System detects low engine oil levels. The 1st time the low oil lights came on was on 12/6/14, I was on the highway, and I stopped at a nearby auto repair shop to have them check the oil. They did the check, they told me that the dipstick was dry... I requested they put oil in the car. I then drove to dealership Service Dept. that same day, 12/6/14 (Invoice # **), with miles at 18,554 (difference of 4,605 from last oil change). Note: The date of the previous oil change was on 8/16/14 (Invoice # **) with mileage at 13,949. The Subaru owners manual indicates that the car should go 7,500 miles between oil changes. 12/6/14 - start of 1st oil consumption test. The subsequent dates of these services for this same issue were: 1/3/15 (Invoice # **) mileage 19,906 in for results of 1st consumption test, they also started a second oil consumption test on 1/3/15 - same date as the 1st results, they topped off the oil. On 1/31/15 (invoice **) mileage 21,380 returned for the results of the 2nd Oil Consumption test, they also charged me for an oil change. On 3/24/15 - Oil Level Low message displayed, mile at 23,755, Invoice ** - Service covered the start of a 3rd oil consumption test, and topped off the oil. Miles since last oil change were 2,375.4/18/15 - the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. I was told by the service advisor that they were going to replace the sensor and upgrade the software, and top off the oil. The invoice # for 4/18/15 is **, mile at 25,020 - 33,640 since the last oil change, 1,265 miles since the dealer service dept. topped off the oil.7/6/15 the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. Invoice # **. Upon arrival, I showed the message displayed in my running car to the Service Advisor, he repeated the issue back to me and then the Service Manager took over. The service manager asked what service was performed last time. I told him that the service advisor indicated that they replaced sensor and they updated the software. After being at the dealership service department for over 1 hours the Service Manager informed me that they did NOT replace the sensor or upgrade the software on 4/18/15. They were going to do that today (7/6/15). Mile at on 7/6/15 27,470 - 2,450 since previous oil top off by dealership and 6,090 miles since last oil change including two oil top offs by the dealership.I will be requesting Subaru open a claim for this issue with 2014 Subaru Forester (as soon as the website will accept my vin #) as the dealership service department has failed to request Subaru, even though I have requested them to do so 3 times. Note: On July 6th, 2015 I heard a service advisor talking with another customer about his older Subaru that was in for an oil change. The customer asked the service advisor if the oil in his car would take a 3,000 mile trip, the answer was yes. I turned to the Subaru Service Manager and asked if my 2014 Subaru Forester would be good for a 3,000 mile trip without the Low Oil Level lights coming on, he said I dont think so.

2017 Subaru Forrester (manual transmission): My oil light first came on at 3000 miles and I have been fighting Subaru for the past year to address the excessive oil consumption. Subaru lost a class action lawsuit for oil consumption problems and continues to sell cars without changing the design. I would not recommend a Subaru to anyone as you never know if you will buy a defective one. My passenger seatbelt alarm also goes off when no one is in it and the paint is pitting. Subaru lacks integrity and I will never buy another one.Updated on 07/18/2018: I write this with the sincere hope of preventing others from experiencing the same issue and stress that I have. Please research “Subaru oil consumption problems.” You will find Subaru lost a class action lawsuit, which was settled in 2016, but they still continue to produce and sell cars with oil consumption problems. I encourage you to visit several online consumer forums, like CarGurus, and read threads from real people with similar experiences. Subaru and Big Island Motors told me that those reviews dont count, as they cant be verified. You can verify this. I bought my 2017 MT Forrester in December of 2016 at Big Island Motors in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. My oil light first came on at 3000 miles, which began my 2+ yearlong battles with Subaru and Big Island Motors. I initially dealt with the service manager, who blamed my driving style, the weather/Hawaii, my commute, my lack of mechanical expertise, among other things, and refused to acknowledge the problem. After 6 months of fighting with the service center, in desperation, I contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (in the summer of 2017). He required the service center to conduct oil consumption tests. This process took about 6 months and many hours off of work for me. I failed 3 of them, which the service center said qualified me for a “new engine.” After they submitted the paperwork, this spring, I contacted them after 2 months of not hearing anything. I was informed/warned that I might have to wait for a year for the repairs as others were in front of me. Finding this unacceptable, I again contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (last week and a year later!). Initially he responded with concern, but then I heard from the service center that I needed to come for a compression test. Subaru generously provided me with a rental car for this test and, wait for it, the test was normal! The VP of Subaru informed me yesterday that he had forgotten that I drive from Kohala to Waimea every day and that downshifting is likely the reason why my car is consuming oil. I asked him why so many of the Subaru commercials showed people and their dogs camping in the mountains if they could only be driven on flat roads? My Honda, also a MT, used ZERO oil on the same commute. He further shared that I needed to keep driving my car since they don’t know what’s wrong with it (hello? class action lawsuit). He also retracted the promise of a new engine. In the meantime, I continue to add oil, purchased by the case from Costco. Check out “the Subaru Love Promise” on their website, “Subaru and its retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our promise to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.” That is unless you have a problem with your car, then that Subaru Love Promise is not for you. If I can save just one person from experiencing the stress, additional expense and disappointment I have, this post will have been worth it. BTW, if Subaru had the customer service of Costco, there would be no other cars on the road. Costco lives the Love Promise.

Sorry to say this is turning out to be the worst car buying experience that either of us has ever encountered in over four decades of driving. First off the sales person lied to us about the accessories options available for our vehicle, and the finance guy was condescending. So I went to the parts department and began ordering the accessories that I was told were not available. The L E D side view mirrors were installed by the supervisor of the service department. He admitted damaging the inner workings of the mirrors and ordered replacements. Another trip back to the dealership and the problem was even worse. He tried to convince me that it was normal to see through only half of the mirrors as they could not be adjusted properly to be able to see the lanes to either side of me. He eventually got frustrated with my insisting that they be fixed to the way they originally worked, and told me to go home to my wife. I called the corporate office and it has been over two weeks with no resolution in sight. A week ago I try to remote start before I left to work. The STARLINK system would not connect. When I went out to the car to start it. The dashboard and ignition lights were blinking and it would not start. I had it towed to the dealership, they gave us a small dirty loaner car and yesterday, a week later, they called to say it was fixed and ready to be picked up. We made the trip there to find that it was not true, the vehicle was not ready as the STARLINK was still not working. Were back in the loaner vehicle, its the next day and we have not received another call about the status of our car. This car is two months old and its their top of the line SUV. Do I have a lemon? More to come.

I have owned three Subarus and just recently purchased my fourth which was a 2019 Certified Pre-owned Subaru Ascent Touring. I have had the car for a month when the transmission starting acting up. Upon taking it to the dealership twice to look at it the second time they have had it going on two weeks. Randy Marion Subaru technicians have been very helpful and they are just as aggravated as I am with how Subaru is handling my situation. The technician states he knows exactly what is going on with my car as he has witnessed it and I have provided them with videos of what is going on. The technician states that the chain is slipping on the transmission. Having a two year old in the car I find this extremely unsafe and if not fixed and something happens I will sue Subaru for all that they are worth. My car is still under warranty having only 32,000 miles on it. I am still paying a payment on a car that I have not had in two weeks because Subaru is stating that the technician has to catch it on their computers for them to replace anything. Subaru has all these ratings for being such a good company that cares about their customers but I am highly encouraging people to stay away from Subaru after this incident which is not resolved. I have contacted the customer care line only to be told the support specialist would reach out to the dealership and get back to me which has yet to happen. I am so beyond irritated at this point. I just want my car back and I want it fixed.

We bought an 18 outback last year October. It was in the shop nearly every month for various things that was wrong with it but mainly the radio unit wasnt working properly. After about 6 months of taking it in and them trying everything to fix it, they replaced the radio unit. Still had problems. The service manager told me that the best thing to do is set up a claim with Subaru of America. They were incredible. They offered me either an even trade of the car or a buyback. We chose the buyback. It took a while, but that was my fault as we were out of town a lot. They were patient with me and today they took the car back after inspection.I would buy another Subaru because the car drove well, there was just other issues that couldnt be fixed with that particular vehicle. But mainly I would buy another one because of the way we were treated by them. They were so nice and helpful, it would be worth it just for the customer service. I hope they treat everyone like this.

I bought a Subaru Outback 2012 from a dealer on Cape Cod. They caused me a lot of grief by selling me an afterMarket stereo/GPS that was miserable. After 5 very ugly attempts at repair they gave me a good one to get rid of me. I bought the car with an extended warranty to 100,000 miles. Now, at 140,000 miles the CVT transmission died. Subaru CVT transmissions are SEALED UNITS. They have lifetime automatic transmission fluid. You cannot check it or change it. Does that sound like a bad idea? It is. My tranny failed admittedly after a lot of miles, but I drive very very carefully. I get 120,000 miles form original tires and brakes. Beware if you buy an Outback. A new transmission is $6,600 plus $1,500 install. $8,000 to use the car. I am told Toyota transmissions NEVER have a problem. NEVER.

Recently purchased a new 2015 Outback 2.5i premium. We test drove dealer car 3 times to confirm we wanted to order one, none available at any local dealers at the time. About 3wks after receiving our car, it developed a clicking noise coming from the gear shifter knob every time you went below or above 5mph, EVERY TIME. Nonstop, every light, every stop sign, all day every day. Dealer says its normal and refuse to fix. I keep reminding them it did not do it on any test car and it took weeks for it to show up on our car. How can that be normal? I would not have purchased the car had it made this annoying noise on the test drive and I certainly would not have paid for the car when I went to pick it up. (I did test drive our car prior to paying for it once it came in and there was no noise at all.) I am at the point of wanting to sell my brand new car because I just cant stand this constant annoyance. Wrote several emails directly to Subaru company rep, with them refusing to take any responsibility.

My wife and I purchased this car and purchased the extended warranty, just in case. While on a long trip, the check engine light came on and within 10 minutes, I had lost all power from the turbocharger. The dealer informed me that the oil feed tube filter was clogged and caused the failure. This is not listed anywhere as to maintenance or inspection. Bottom line is, the dealer stated that my warranty is expired by three months and they wont be covering the costs. Ive owned several Subaru cars and was thinking of buying/trading up, but if your systems are not capable of even lasting to 100 thousand miles without a catastrophic failure, surely I wont be making any further purchases from your company. I change my oil personally every 3k, and the car has only 94k miles. What kind of product do you call this? So, what youre saying in your email is, Yes, were aware of the problem but were not responsible since we didnt issue a recall or even a TSB concerning this filter screen and we absolved ourselves of all responsibility regardless of impeccable maintenance per factory recommendations. Therefore, **. Really? Just how long do you plan to remain in business if this is how you operate? Sort of an already got your money, dude attitude? This car didnt even make it to its first timing belt change and thats somehow OK with you? I cannot believe a corporation as big as Subaru absolutely will not stand behind its product! As an ASE-certified master technician with over 25 years in this business, Ive been repeatedly asked about who makes a good car and without question, the answer wont be you, quite the opposite. Im absolutely appalled! Ninety-four thousand miles and a hidden, non-serviceable filter takes out a turbo and possibly the engine with it, and you say tough **!

It was serviced on a regular basis with the recommended work and oil changes. Last week the car stopped in the middle of the road (while driving) and he had it towed to the Subaru dealer for diagnosis and repair. Diagnosis: They dont know. Recommendation: It needs a new engine! Really Subaru? 130,00 miles and no help from Subaru! Unbelievably bad reliability!

Purchased a new Outback in April 2016. Noticed the GPS map was from Q3 2014, so I asked the salesman if it could be updated. The salesman checked with the service department and told me that it could be updated by the service department just as soon as an update was available...but an update was not available at that time. A few months later after moving to another state, I asked Subaru Customer Service if my map could be updated. They informed me that the Subaru policy would not allow me to get an update before I owned the Outback for 12 months. So my map would be almost three years old before I could get it updated by a Subaru service department. I wasted much too much time sending emails to them attempting to get an update approved and after too many...I gave up and was lucky enough to find a way to update it myself.

We purchase a brand new Subaru Forester in 2009 and the transmission went at just above 60,000 miles and just over 5 years -- warranty expired barely. We took it to Maple Hill Auto Group in Kalamazoo where they replaced the transmission. All the maintenance records were submitted to the warranty group at Maple Hill. All the preventative maintenance was completed by a reputable company who does a thorough job. We received backlash that some of the work was not completed at a Subaru dealer. The bill for the transmission was greater than $5,000 dollars. Maple Hill did not provide a vehicle and took 3 weeks to replace the transmission. When it was finally replaced, I paid for the vehicle and drove off. After 1 mile the vehicle would go over 25 MPH. I returned and told that they must have received a defective transmission from Subaru. I waited another week and 1/2 to finally get a transmission that cost over 5K. No vehicle to get through the time period and no assistance from the Warranty Group. We will never purchase a Subaru again. We have receive feedback from consumers who own GM products. They provide 100K warranties and they help assist with issues that arise just after the warranty expires. Do not purchase a Subaru. They do back their vehicle the way they should and expect you to overpay for service on their vehicles. They do not value customer satisfaction. They view problems with the vehicle as an avenue to gain profitability.

I purchased the 2015 Subaru Outback brand new, the sticker says 33 mpg highway, I have traveled on the Highway in Kansas (flat, no traffic, no turns, straight highway), and get about 26-27 MPG which isnt even close to the 33 MPG they are advertising. I have emailed Subaru customer service with no reply. I have tracked my mileage and now have just over 5000 miles on my car and have averaged about the same the whole time. The rest of the car is fine.

On my 2012 Legacy, the check engine”, flashing Brake light and the traction light all come on at odd intervals. The dealer has been able to fix this on a temporary basis by changing plugs, checking the compression, and cleaning the fuel injector system. All of these work for a short time but not permanently. Subaru America refers me back to the dealer that has not been able to solve the problem. Anyone have a similar problem and what was done to correct it?

Now the dealership has says it will get better the long we own it!! We would like to file a lawsuit against Subaru and the dealership for false advertising this product. It does not get Nowhere what they are advertising. Maybe we bought a bad one. If so we would try another Subaru.

It is a great all around vehicle. It is unique, all wheel drive, excellent gas mileage, very comfortable, really fun to drive, handles well, very durable and dependable. Also, it is only a four cylinder but had a lot of get up and go. Love the all wheel drive and the excellent gas mileage as well. However, it is on the small side and is not as easy as some cars to get in and out of. Sometimes the maintenance can be costly and timing belt change every 80,000 miles is a must as well.

I purchased a 2019 CrossTrek two weeks ago. The first time I drove it in the dark I was afraid the entire time. The headlights are weird and the high beams have a mind of their own. DONT BUY A CROSSTREK!!!! I took it back to the dealer, who looked into it and said it is factory specs. I dont like it, but it is what it is. My problem is SUBARU!!!! I called to talk to them about it, and they said they would escalate it to Resolutions. The woman from resolutions called and basically accused me of not returning the dealerships loaner car. You can imagine my surprise, when I have been talking with the dealership, and they hadnt said anything. This woman (who is a poor poor excuse for customer service) started the conversation with the dealership has been trying to get ahold of you for three days. What a liar (and what a wonderful way to start the conversation). I had talked to the dealership yesterday and the salesperson was supposed to call me and hadnt. He never had any trouble getting ahold of me - they have my work number, home number and cell - NO CALLS and she had the nerve to ACCUSE ME of not returning the dealerships property???? What???? I have never been so poorly treated, never less by a supposed resolution person. I have spent a lot of money with Subaru, this is my fourth (AND LAST) Subaru. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER THING FROM SUBARU, I HATE THE CAR AND AS FAR AS THEIR Customer Satisfaction that is BS, they dont care. I will bad mouth them until the day I die!!!! DONT BUY A SUBARU, they wont support it, and they are awful people to deal with a problem!!!! And I have to live with a new car (two weeks old) that I HATE!!!! WATCH OUT FOR THEM!!!!

I have found many things I hate about my Subaru. The biggest is you cant use any of the devices unless the car is running and you are burning gasoline. You cant listen to the radio or charge your phone or use your gps or talk on your phone through the radio. I used that for 10 minutes and my battery was dead. The heater does throw heat on your feet. There is a tube about an inch wide that comes down beside the console and that is all the heat you get. If you are in a hard rain storm, you cant see because the wipers do not run that fast. I have an SUV and the back hatch is so difficult to open or shut, I have to put everything down to open or shut it. I bought this vehicle due to Consumer Reports data. They apparently do not look at things like this. I hate it. Anytime I ask Subaru, they say that is just the way Subarus are. Now my radio screen has squiggly lines all over it. So bad I cannot see to back up or see the channel on the radio if the sun is shining on it. They said, Well, the radio works, doesnt it. If we were talking about a 57 Chevy, yes, I can hear the radio. But this vehicle radio is supposed to do other things and it does not because you cannot see them. This item I believe cuts into resale value. Anyone thinking of buying a Subaru should check out these items. If they are ok with them, fine. But I was not told nor did I think to check them before I purchased and Subarus do not come cheap.

But I am disappointed with my Subaru in the cost of repairs. They are very expensive. Also, the windshield has been a bother and has broken numerous times. Rocks hit it and instantly put holes in the window. We have replaced the window five or six times.

First, let me say that I have a 2010 Subaru Forester that I have had no problems with it. Bought it new and now has 71K on it. Because I had no problems with it, and I can put insane amounts of mileage on a car, I bought a hail damaged 2013 Subaru Forester Premium with about 16K on it, have driven on east coast, Alaska, Yukon, west coast, with no problems consistently getting 30+ mpg. This June, while in Yosemite and on my way to LA, the low oil pressure light started flickering at around 47K miles. Subaru said it was a bad oil pressure sensor. Changed to a new one and then in the middle of nowhere South Dakota, at 10:00 p.m. it came on. I then tried to go really slow in case there was something really wrong with my car. I went 35 mph on the highway until I got to Bismarck, ND, where I went straight to the Subaru dealer. My cousins live there, so if my car got stuck there, at least they were there.I got no sleep that night because I was so worried about my car and the fact that I had promised to drive my cousins kid who has Hodgkins lymphoma and a tumor on his heart and spine to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, MN for chemo twice to take the load off of family members for a couple of weeks. I was doubly upset about the low-pressure light coming on, especially since I had just replaced the switch. I am a single woman who is always out on the road alone. I only buy cars that are reliable, up until my 2010 Subaru, its been nothing but Hondas and Toyotas.I had an Oldsmobile Achieva once, and that was the biggest POS Ive ever owned, whoever designed the front brakes that needed changing like clockwork at 22K, the whole serpentine belt and having to support the engine and undoing the engine bolts should be credited for Oldsmobile going out of business. I work on my own cars, so I know the quality of oil, gear oil, brakes, etc. going on them. When people ** me, I know. This car may be the one mistake I have made. It remains to be seen if Subaru will make it right. If not, I will be the Poster Girl for the anti-Subaru campaign.Bismarck, ND has one Subaru dealer in town. They scanned my car and said no problem, ignore the light, and drive on. I dont know what else they did, but my mileage dropped from 30 mpg to 25.5 mpg on the way to Rochester, and 27 mpg on the way back. I changed the oil, new filter. Called the Bismarck dealership and asked why my mileage dropped, told me it was the gas. Called SOA, no help there either. Mileage was similar on second trip to Rochester, and the low-pressure light came on during the trip back from Rochester. I ignored it but checked the oil. 1/2 qt low. Called Bismarck dealership again, and got the ** about the gas again (because consumers are stupid, right?).As if I wasnt getting sketchy gas in some of the places I went in Alaska and in the boonies in Canada and my mileage didnt tank like this. On my way back to Denver (home) my mileage came up to 27.6, but my low oil pressure light would come on after about 10 hours and I could smell a faint burning smell. When the engine cooled off and started back up, light is off, goes on about 10 hours later. Went through Missouri on my way home, about 1200 miles, checked oil when I got home, at the low line on dipstick. I also had ordered the new part that Subaru said I need for the low oil level light. Its installed, along with the rubber cap. Guess that is to keep the light off, while my engine burns up... I am still in denial, but its becoming clearer and I think I have one of the bad engines that burns oil in large quantities. It remains to be seen if they will fix the engine. Im still under 60K.There is nothing worse than being on the road when your car is malfunctioning, especially when you are carrying sick cancer patients that cannot be exposed to excessive germs and environment. So, when I am reading about all the Subaru complaints, believe them. My strong advice is to avoid Subaru until they start putting quality cars back on the market. What I just went through is disgusting. Problems on the road. I am not happy and am wondering how much this is going to cost me and I have talked with enough idiots at dealerships and at SOA to believe that this ** will kill the Subaru name if they dont correct it.I have also warned my friends that were influenced by my love of Subarus (before this incident), Hondas, and Toyotas. They bought a 2015 Subaru Forester and a 2016 Honda Accord because of my cars. I have faith in the Honda, but NOT the Forester. I am also now telling everyone else I know to stay away from Subarus. Perhaps their success has made them greedy and uncaring. VW did the same thing, they lost market share. Make it right Subaru!!! I will be the Poster Child you dont want!!!

I average 12,000 miles a year on my car. I drive 20 miles rt daily with 85% of my trip being 45 mph. I do not drive this car hard. At 62K miles, I took my 07 Outback to the dealer for a scheduled oil change. I mentioned the car seemed to be getting loud as the technician asked if I had any concerns. When I picked up my car, no mention was made of the noise so I attributed it to new tires. As the car has become louder, on my internet research, I have noticed several complaints and even called Subaru when I had seen an extended warranty on 05, 06, and 08s that covered the car for 100K miles or 8 years. I called the dealer and my car didnt qualify. I have also noticed my car had a recall for a piece to the brake. I havent moved since we purchased the car and had no written notice as to the failure... At nearly 80K, I am faced now with rebuilding my rear differential. No recalls had been made for the 07s. I took it to a mechanic and he told me Subarus are known for that. I have found this website and encourage all Subaru owners with problems to please file complaints.

I actually recorded the issue this morning and again will be back at the dealership. The Dealership is great. However, my new Subaru Outback 3.6R Touring is not. I loved my 2013 Outback 3.6R and want it back. Never had these issues and it’s not like I can just run the vehicle down the street for issues but have to drive over 30 miles one way. I bought my 2017 in December and the screen freezes up; now a total of 6 times. The camera wont work right and there is a too long of a hesitation from reverse to drive and no one can find the problems. Dealership reset and again the same problems. The scariest was this past Saturday. Mapping, clock everything froze, literally had to pull over and stop the car and then restart it in order to make it sync and work again. If they cant fix this issue someone better be finding my 2013 Outback and getting it back for me since I never had any issues with that one. The 2017 since I have purchased has had one issue after another. It seems others are having these issues as well so why isnt this being recalled or fixed.

2015 WRX engine failure, 5600 miles - I have had my car about 4 months, leased as new car. On 4-18-15, engine light blinked on, I stopped car to check manual, it said to slow down reduce load on engine, and get to dealership ASAP, that was Saturday eve. Manual said it was ok to drive. I ran some close by errands Sunday. Took to dealership Monday AM. After a while, I was told that a plug had lost its tip and was misfiring... ok, quick fix. Wrong... service mgr informed me that there was a hole in the cylinder, that I would need a new engine. LUCKILY, under warranty. Down time 2-3 weeks. I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle, 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV hybrid,
I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle, 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV hybrid, from Subaru of Orange Park 06/26/2016. The vehicle had less than 30k miles at purchase. Less than 4 months from purchase date, the hybrid system / engine went out on the vehicle. As I was driving on the highway, the system told me to “Pull Over to Safety and Turn Off Engine”. Subaru of Orange Park was unable to diagnose or service. Upon research I find that after two years of hybrid makes, Subaru no longer manufactures hybrid vehicles because of the KNOWN technical issues that deemed unprofitable to the manufacturer. I had to have the car transported to a further Subaru location that services hybrids because hybrid technicians are sparse; I can only imagine how sparse they will be 2 years from now. The servicing dealer had to fly in an expert to diagnose. My car was in shop for 7 days. The extended warranty that I PURCHASED covered the repair, outside of a deductible, towing, and car rental. Without the warranty, the cost is estimated at $1,556. Based on research, the system is anticipated to crash every 30-40k miles. Due to faulty manufacturing, the value and longevity of my vehicle has diminished. When I contacted the manufacturer, they asked me to deal directly with the dealership, so I did. I noticed the Certified Pre-Owned checklist has a ? in the hybrid section. The dealer was not authorized to sell me a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with items on the checklist not accounted for, especially the engine. Post-repair, I discovered the hybrid system was not functioning at the time of purchase. Originally, the dealer told me theyd work out a satisfactory solution with me. However, I called today and was informed that they will not support an even trade. My option is to buy up to another vehicle, which I cannot afford, nor do I desire to lose $1823 in additional warranties that I purchased at the time of vehicle. This is not acceptable to me. The vehicle is not safe nor reliable, and the value is going to plummet as reliability becomes known and maintenance becomes extinct.

My 2014 Outback was my 3rd Subaru. They had changed to full synthetic oil and one has to use that as the company supposedly tightened up their Boxer 2.5L specs. First oil change at 3K was OK, 2nd at 7.5K later, as they recommended, was still OK. After that, was on a trip and oil light came on after about 3K miles. Eventually found a place in the rural area that had 0-20W which is required. Only half qt required. After another 2K miles, another half quart required. After that, the scenario continued to repeat. After an oil change, 3K miles and half qt needed, and at 5K after the change another half qt. Through several changes. Factory had lowered the period between changes to 6K, but after using 1qt of the 4qt original supply, I went to changing every 5K miles. Then found a CR report lambasting Subaru for their oil use. This was not leaking oil, but consuming it. A couple of autos, Audi and BMW - some models - were worse, but everyone that I talked to considered using a qt every 5K miles very excessive for a new car. Subaru would do nothing about it and the dealer - having been graded on the sales process already with the 10s they beg you to grade, was indifferent. Facing the possibility that the Subaru name would be associated with oil burner in the future and that the value of my vehicle for trade would be negatively impacted I chose to trade it in after only owning it 20 months and 27K miles. Traded for a Mazda CX-5 and went to the Subaru dealer immediately afterwards to tell them why I had traded away the Subaru Outback that I otherwise had loved for what I consider to be a lesser vehicle. That doesnt use oil.Dealer made up some excuses and I walked out, a Subaru fan no more. Dealer never even offered to make me a good deal on a newer vehicle that supposedly didnt have the problem. This was in Columbia MO. Despite my having informed them that I had traded the vehicle, I still get service reminders and other propaganda from the dealer. They are that clueless and disconnected and this reflects upon Subaru as being pretty much the same.

I own a 2013 Subaru Impreza. The car is currently undergoing work for a SECOND CVT transmission. With the first transmission, I was at 55,000 miles, and there were audible queues. I was lucky enough to bring the car into the dealership to be diagnosed. I was informed I would need a new transmission and it would be covered under my extended (60,000 mile) warranty. The car was fixed and I believed everything to be fine.Last week, I was on vacation with my two small children (2 and 5, both requiring car seats) and driving from St Augustine FL to Atlanta along I-75. I was just outside of Macon, GA, and in the far left lane, when the car jerked violently and then stopped accelerating. There was a transfer truck to my right, and a few vehicles came up very quickly to my rear. I was able to coast off to the left hand side of the road. The vehicle was stripped of all gears and no longer even had a park. The emergency brake had to be utilized to keep it from rolling.I called Subaru roadside assistance and the car was towed to Macon (about 40 miles north) to a dealer there (with me and my two kids in the front with the driver, a very nice man). Once I arrived at the dealership, I was treated with a we cant look at it today, what do you want us to do about it attitude. I called Subaru Customer Care and Lisa arranged a rental car through Enterprise. I was not allowed to take a dealership loaner since I live in Hickory, North Carolina and would be taking the car over state lines. The car broke down at 11:00 AM and we were not back on the road until 5:30 PM.Since then, this was over a week ago, I have expressed my worries with Subaru. They have assured me that the extended CVT Transmission warranty issued by Subaru last month would cover my car, even though it is at the 88,000 mile mark, but would anyone want a car on its second transmission that essentially stalled while going 70 mph on the highway???I have asked Subaru to do the right thing and either pay off the loan or allow me to trade in the vehicle, but they refuse. Now they are stating that the rental car will not be covered for the entire time of the repair and that I will have to travel back down to Macon, GA (6 hours from my home) to pick the car up once it is fixed later next week. Thats over two full weeks in a rental car and a whole lot of a headache to pick up a car that may or may not work for another 30,000 miles. If this was my first transmission, if this had only happened once, I would not be writing this. If my kids had not been in the car when it stopped accelerating on the highway, I would not be writing this. I, like everyone else, need reliable and safe transportation. I have neither of these things and Subaru refuses to right the wrong. For those looking into buying a car with the CVT Transmission, please dont. I would hate for someone to get seriously injured by this. Its dangerous and something Subaru should not ignore. A recall should be issued. My first transmission gave me a warning sign with a noise, the second one just stopped... there was no warning.

2016 Subaru Outback limited - As my first Subaru and all the serious hype about how great this car is, I was personally very disappointed. Initially I was disappointed the limited had neither a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and power folding mirrors. The interior pocket room is very minimal. Glove and center compartment very small. I did not find it works for me as a parent of young kids. The backseat is small. The spacing barely contains a convertible reverse facing child safety seat. The materials are cheap and feel cheap.MY MAJOR COMPLAINTS and reasons I am offloading my Subaru are: THE BATTERY my car came with a 325 amp battery out of the factory. I live in NE. Its cold. The car is high electronics. The crank power of that battery was not sufficient. Imagine my amusement when the day before Xmas eve in a snowstorm. I am stuck at work because my car wont start. Upon replacing the battery in my practically brand new car the passenger side window stopped working. Easy fix at dealer but still the inconvenience of getting to the dealer. THE STARTER the remote starter is AWFUL.The range is very poor and it only works 50% of the time. Dealer refuses to replace. THE ACCELERATION Sometimes, when its cold the car does not accelerate as it should. It seems to really struggle. THE SOFTWARE UPDATES my car started stalling and chugging. It turned out to need some software fix. Yet another trip to the dealer with a brand new car. THE BLUETOOTH extremely finicky. Sometimes it just drops connection mid call and wont reconnect. No idea why.

Im writing this review on behalf of my son who owns a 2014 WRX. On April 29, 2016, my son was returning to Plattsburgh, N.Y. from training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tx. He was about 40 miles west of Nashville, Tn., when his WRX blew its motor with about 15,500 miles on it. Subaru had the car brought to Downtown Subaru in Nashville, where it took 40 DAYS to repair. During the time it was at the dealer, we were lied to about the progress of the repair! As of today, June 27, Subaru has not reimbursed my son or myself for retrieving the car and car payment and insurance. Its a shame that Subaru treats military personal in this manner. I cant imagine how they treat the general public!

I have the Subaru Forester. I love that model because its an all terrain vehicle. I like to go camping a lot so its useful on those old dirt roads. Usually it is terrifying to drive on them because its so bumpy and you feel like the car could turn over any second but with my Subaru it is smooth and I feel safe! I really like my Subaru. It is dependable and safe. I have children so it makes me feel better driving with them in a car like that. I have actually gotten into an accident in it, just myself, but it wasnt that bad! I credit it to the safety precautions I got on it. Its also very pretty. I got it in blue which is my favorite color. Just seeing the car makes me really happy! The seats are a nice creamy white leather. And I got a flower scented air freshener!I would improve however, the battery life. The battery in my car has a very short life span and I constantly find myself having to fix it. Granted, my kids do tend to turn the light on the car and we leave it on overnight. So maybe a fix could be an auto turn off on the lights after a couple of hours? That would be really useful since my family always forgets to turn the lights off.

Took it to the dealer, they said it would be repaired under warranty. They had it for 2 weeks, said it was repaired and all was well. About 2 months later, the symptoms of the camshaft leak started again, so I took it back, they repaired it and said all was well. In Dec of that year at about 37K, the car stopped starting. Guess what it was, the Camshaft. Took it to the dealer, they put shims in and said it was a known issue so it was covered under warranty. They gave me the car back and about a week later I get a call saying the parts they ordered are in. Im thinking what parts, the car is fine. It wasnt they had to replace all of the gaskets and some of the pistons due to improper wear and performance. I feel as though I rent this car from the dealership. Its only driven occasionally (about once a week) with the exception of the winter (I live in CO which is why I bought it in the first place). It has also had trouble with its fuel gauge and now the battery. Not only will I NEVER buy another Subaru, I wont recommend them either. Subaru knew about these issue and sold the car anyway without correcting them, they just put out service bulletins. What a SHAM and a LEMON. Seriously, NEVER AGAIN.

The ECO system on my 2015 Legacy isnt working properly. I have been to their shop several times and phoned several other times. Have received 5 different explanation how it works and none matched the handbook. Finally a man spoke with me, the foremen I think, he told me they could not fix it and could not or would not replace it. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN Oct 2014. EVEN NOW I only have just over 14000 miles on it. This has been going on since the first week of May. I know it has nothing to do with the drivability of the vehicle but its on there and I paid for it so it should work. I received no paperwork as they only drove it and turned the system on an off

Two months ago I built up the urge to trade in my 2005 Chevy Uplander for a brand new 2014 Subaru Crosstrek... the car Ive been wanting for sometime. I walked up to the black one I wanted and demanded the deal they promised online. Finance 6 years $400 monthly. After being denied for not so hot credit and offered a $550 monthly I walked out of the dealership a lil bummed. But took it with a grain of salt, just have to save up more for the 15, I thought. But the very next day Marco, the online Subaru sales guy, called me up in the morning with great news that Wed talked to the manager and made some moves to get to deal you wanted. Excited I rushed to the lot, signed the contract, got the insurance onsite, traded in my van.At first they told me theyd give me $2500 for the van. But when I look at the contract they put value @ $500. When questioned they said in order to get the numbers I wanted and to make the deal work thats what we had to do. Agreeing to that I went ahead. I fell for the extended warranty and 3 year maintenance too for an extra $79 a month bringing it to 479 for 6 years. Hesitant but sure I could make the payments, I drove off the lot a proud New owner of a Subaru. One month goes by and Marco calls and says, Oops, we forgot to get a copy of your pay stubs. Can you please send it via text email or fax? After kindly agreeing I first text it to him 3 different times. A week later they called me at work and demanded I fax or email of my pay stub. Agitated at this point I agreed and faxed it, scanned and emailed the copy. Two months since I drove off the lot and I get a call at work again from Marco asking if I could come down to the dealership to work out a new deal because they made a mistake on the contract and discrepancy on my pay stub. While at work I told them I was busy, I would try in the next couple days. Today I got another call at work from the Subaru manager rudely demanding that I return the car to the lot, saying that time is up and the deal is no good, the bank rejected the terms. Pissed off at this point I was ready to just say ** it, Ill just return it and get my van back. So thats exactly what I did. Except they didnt have my van ready, its getting smogged and Ill be ready in a couple days they said. When I arrived at 8:45 pm the GM wasnt even there waiting as we discussed. I had to wait for an hour for him to show up. During which I had to sit there with the sale manager who didnt know anything about the situation. When the GM finally showed up he rushed up to me, got in my face and demanded the keys back. I refused because they didnt have my van ready. Thats when three guys surrounded me and basically strong armed me for the keys. Then acted like they were doing me a favor by calling me a cab ride home. Only to tell me theyll call me when the van is ready. When I signed the contract I signed a page that said no buyers remorse... once I drive off the lot theres no driving back with second thoughts. Is there a such thing as sellers remorse? Bad Business. I want Fairfield Subaru exposed. I dont ever want to buy Subaru again. They lied about the van being smogged and dont know where my van is?

Please, please, please STOP recommending Subaru cars as being reliable. I have purchased two of them based on Consumer Reports recommendations and both have had major expensive repairs. I am old, have had all the routine maintenance done and still have had lots of problems. The 2010 Forester (that was said to be a very reliable car) needed to have its head gasket replaced at 95K (turns out they had lots of head gasket issues) and the 2011 Outbacks CVT just went out, 3 weeks after the extended warranty expired (expired on July 31, 2018). As I stated earlier, I am old (retired) and cannot afford a costly fix on a car that is only 7 years old. I have contacted Subaru of America to see if they would help me and all they do is say that they are waiting to be contacted by the local dealer (where I took the car to be repaired) but the local dealer called me to tell me that they have called Subaru of America twice and no one ever responds. Does this sound like a reputable company? Shoot, if they are not going to help me, cant they at least tell me? Maybe they used to be reliable but that time has passed.

I was involved in an accident on November 9 and took my 2018 Crosstrek into a good body shop in town to get fixed. It is still there 6 WEEKS later because the body shop can’t get parts from Subaru to fix it! The last part they need is back ordered until Jan. 3! Ive tried calling Subaru of North America and my local dealer (Bob **, Fort Wayne, IN), and they keep telling me there is nothing they can do! My insurance only pays 80% of my rental, so Ive been paying 20% of the bill this whole time! I will NEVER buy another Subaru.

Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their Subaru Legacys starting slow? And if youve purchased a new battery, which battery have you purchased to replace it? Or did you get back to the dealership and have them give you a new battery?

My 2014 Forester sucks down oil. When you call Subaru corporate they deny the problem, even though theres class action lawsuit and the dealer told me they had to replace the engines. I have to keep driving it back to the dealer every time the oil light goes on for the oil consumption test. I now have a lemon law attorney going after them. Its a shame because I really like the car, but Subaru plain ol lying to me has soured me for good. Never again. Oh, and btw, they sent their dealers a manifesto to fix for the problem. Ya know, the one they nothing of, and basically stated that whenever you do anything but park the car, youll burn oil. Subaru must be Japanese for jokesters or liars I guess.

I own a 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT. I love my car! Its my baby and I take great care of it and great pride in it! I have been one of Subarus biggest fans since I was young, convinced my parents to buy a Subaru as a teenager, and have owned two myself; I have trusted and supported this company through the years. However, after recently after having repairs done for a broken turbo at one of their Certified Subaru Service Centers, my engine died due to the fact that their technicians did not remove the oil pan after replacing the shredded turbo (a standard and required part of their repair!). Since the repair, Subaru terminated the dealers service department (Vista Subaru In Glennwood, CO) and will not honor their workmanship! Subaru has outright told me that they will not help me with the cost of the new engine, even though their certified workers are at fault (for not completing a repair per SOAs explicit directions in a bulletin I will attach) and the cost of replacing their fouled repairs combine to put the money I have in this car at $27,789 (the base price of a 2011 model!) when purchased 11 months ago for $16,500! I put 9,000 miles on this car!I hope someone reads this and does the right thing by me! As a loyal Subaru customer, you are ensuring that I will bever have anything to do with your products ever again! I love my car, but as it lies with its engine out at the dealership, I realize that if this is how you treat your loyal customers, I must put my beautiful car to rest and move my loyalty to a company that knows how to treat its customers well!Love, its what makes those Subarus in your commercials different from mine!

We bought a 2012 Subaru Forester because of their reliability and safety. We bought it from a dealer used with only 114,000ish miles on it. After one oil change it now has gone through 2.5qts of oil in half of the oils life. After calling Subaru they said that there is nothing they can do to fix the problem without me paying several thousand dollars because it has more than 100,000 miles. This is completely unacceptable! I have been a mechanic professionally for 16 years and the last time I had a customer that had a vehicle that went through that much oil they blew their engine. Subaru needs to man up and fix this issue and fix it correctly, no band-aid on a bullet hole.

I dont think I will purchased car Subaru again after I had a bad experience with Subaru located in Troy, MI. They had an advertisement said that if you had a test drive at their location, you earned $50 gift card, no purchased necessary. So I and my husband decided to go to have a try with this brand name at their location instead the dealership on Hall Rd. We went there, did a test drive, even purchased their car. After 1 hour, I asked them about the $50 gift card. They said they would mail it to my house. It has been 2 months now after I made the purchase, I received nothing. I called the salesman, emailed him, left voicemail, nothing, no response. I called his manager and left a voicemail, no response either. I think we did purchase the car, they dont care about what they promised and their customer anymore. I should never trust them. Worst service ever. Never come back.

After finding out that the head gasket problems for the 2003 Subaru Outback had been fixed, we decided to purchase a used one. We have started having leaking HG and have tried talking to SOA about this, but they refuse to help us with the repairs. The fault is in their design and thus they should pay for these. I have also read on the internet where some people have been helped. This repair will cost us about $2,000! Also, seeing we are Subaru loyalist since 1984, they did/will not take that into consideration. Also, our younger son just got a new 2012 Subaru Legacy last year. Now is the time to decide to let go of Subaru and switch to another brand! Please do not buy a Subaru, as SOA will not stand behind their loyal customers!

Purchased 2000 14 Subaru WRX in June. I was advised the tires on the car were summer only tires so I purchased a new set of rims and tires for the winter. When I went to change the summer tires to the winter tires, I noticed the interior edge of the tire were worn down to the cords, the rest of the tire look brand new. Took the car to a Subaru dealer, they put the car on the alignment machine and said everything is in specs, that theres nothing wrong with the car. Since they say theres nothing wrong with the car they will not replace my tires. The car has 20,000 miles on it. I have maybe ten thousand miles on my summer tires and ten thousand miles on my winter tires. I rotate the tires myself every other oil change. The dealer wants documentation on tire rotation which I cannot provide since I do my own maintenance. I like the car, its fast, handles well and is great in the snow. As of now I am trading in my 2014 Subaru because I cannot afford to purchase tires every 10,000 miles. I receive no satisfaction whatsoever from Subaru. I find that Subaru is very unhelpful in dealing with consumers complaints.

Bought a new Subaru Outback in January - no experience with CVT transmissio
Bought a new Subaru Outback in January - no experience with CVT transmissions and salesman casually mentioned that one of the features was a roll back preventer switch. The reality is if you back up it takes a full 2 seconds after switching to drive to have any power. If you back into traffic and need to get away quickly - youre dead in the water. If youre parallel parking on a hill and back in, youre very likely to hit the car behind you - it just rolls back when you switch to drive.Lots of other complaints including much less than advertised gas mileage - about 10L/100km based on half city and half highway driving. Voice command system is a joke - with long delays and unasked for tutorials - Entertainment system not compatible with my 2 year old smart phone. And what really bugs me is the spring rewind on the seat belt is so weak that I am forever closing the door on the end of the seat belt - just one of many silly oversights. The swept back roof line and curved in rear door mean that there is far less storage space than you might think from looking at the storage floor area.

K of Lonsdale, MN on Oct. 22, 2010 wrote something that is nearly identical to my experience, except mine is a 2010! I have two warranties on my Subaru. Major engine failure requires new block. Before I get to the complaint, I would like to offer a quick current real-life analogy that applies in this case. I needed an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan of my left leg this week, with the cost resulting to approximately $2,000. My insurance company did not need any pre-authorization, it was all fine, and they are paying x percent. Now imagine if something completely different transpires. What if the insurance company said no, we are not paying anything. You have to pay for it all unless you can prove for the last 2 years with records, you have been taking vitamins. It is extremely unlikely that vitamins had anything to do with a stress fracture, but I am swindled out of my money unless I either come up with the records that will satisfy them or fight them on their denial. That is nearly my exact position with Doug Smith Subaru in Utah. I am not unfamiliar to fighting when companies do bad things. I had a cement contractor try to make off with $2500 of my deposit and not do any work. I was highlighted on a local television news episode of Get Gephardt and I got the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing involved. I prevailed in that incident. I have a 2010 Subaru Forester, with approximately 44k miles on it. I had picked up my 10-year old son from school, was getting on the freeway on ramp and accelerating to 65mph with the engine revolutions between 4000-5000 (it is an automatic). All of a sudden, a clicking sound started - not too loud, but noticeable. I got off the next ramp and examined the engine. Nothing unusual could be seen, nothing leaking, nothing loose, no engine lights, no warning lights, nothing. I proceeded home, but the noise got much worse by arrival. I didnt want to drive it further, so it was my idea to have AAA tow it to Doug Smith Subaru, where I had purchased the vehicle. At the time of purchase, I was strongly encouraged to also get the extended warranty for 6 years/100,000 miles, which I did at rather substantial cost. I was told 2 days ago by the service department at Doug Smith that bad things had happened inside the engine. It was broken rod, I would need a new block and Subaru is not going to pay unless I could produce every single oil change record since I purchased the vehicle. They said they had no oil change records, so I would need to produce those. I said, wait a minute, I had the oil changed a lot by other people, but I know for a fact you guys changed it once as I had a coupon for it. They said, hold for a minute. Then they came back to the phone, oh yeah, we found that one and we also saw that you had a sticker on your windshield from last year, but we need more than that. They are refusing to pay anything. I have had it changed in Seattle, changed in Sacramento and here in Utah and I am scrambling to find records. This is outrageous, absurd and smacks of what can be seen in some legal defense firms - deny everything and assert reasons no matter how farfetched, ridiculous, unlikely or impossible. I have started networking to the people I know. Everybody I have talked to is stunned and shocked. I work with someone who was an auto mechanic for 20 years (they are in computers now) who said that is just ridiculous. Since I have purchased the vehicle, never has even one engine warning light comes on. It only has 44k miles on it. No check engine, no oil, no temperature, nothing. I checked all fluid levels usually once a month and also before going on any trip. This vehicle is not some turbo-charged teenage car that is abused. I am nearly 55 years old, this is a station wagon and I had my 10-year old son in the car. I have owned and maintained dozens of cars in my lifetime and this is absolutely crazy. I scrambled to produce the records back to the beginning of purchase because not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that Subaru of America and Doug Smith would look for any reason not to pay. I have owned between 20 and 30 vehicles in my lifetime and had warranty work done from Dodge, Ford, BMW, Porsche, Nissan, GMC. Never, never was I asked to produce every single service record before any warranty work would be done. Doug Smith and Subaru cannot prove that there was an engine failure due to negligent service. They are only citing a phrase in a book to get out of paying. I have a huge list of people following this event and what the outcome is. I have a complaint on file with the BBB, but the dealership and SOA is refusing to budge. To people who want to purchase a Subaru, buyer beware!

I had talked my mom into a Subaru Legacy 3017. I took it in with less than 2000 miles saying it shows the oil is really low. The tech looked at it and said oh its fine and I could not believe it but it showed full at the dealership. The next time I checked it in the drive it showed low again. I thought well there is a slight slant to the drive. That must be it. We had the battery go dead 4 times over the winter. I mean to the point that my jump box that will start my pick up that someone hit in the rear end. I only drive it when I have to haul something so its usually pretty dead. It will start it right up it took forever on this one. Today I am totally lost as to why I called several places and I just get told each place, Oh you need to call here or there. I called about the maps part of this on a 2017 Subaru Legacy that just came from being serviced at 3100 miles and it does have problems they cannot duplicate. I was a Service Manager for GM for years and a service writer. I LOVED the job, but I could at least answer some questions. I have yet to get one question answered. I was going to buy a used Subaru from the same dealership but at this point, I think I will stick with a GM car... I can at least get an answer. I first started to ask if I need to PAY for Starlink to be able to use the maps as every site I look at says with Starlink and maps its so nice. I have not once been able to get the maps to go anywhere by voice commands if I do get a response other than being told she did not understand. Then I would get other states coming up... It took 15-30 minutes to manually get one time the map to work right and every other time I just grabbed the Garmin and said well they have always been my choice of GPS and very easy to get to a location. I asked this girl where the SD card is in the vehicle. She said well didnt I go to that site. The one I am at now and I said YES and have already downloaded the toolbox but on a video, it said they could be located in several different spots. She said call toolbox as she only deals with Maps. I said isnt this all part of it. She said no. Is there anything else she could help me with. I said, I guess not. You did like every other Subaru Phone number I called... telling me to call someone else. They had no idea about Starlink or Sirius or what I was talking about. My next call is going to be to the Attorney General since NO ONE wants to help at all... but boy they were sure there to sell the vehicle. I honestly was going to get a Subaru until I seen how hard it is to get 1 question answered and I had several to ask and was cut off every time... I do better calling DirecTV or my Insurance Co. and they get me to my boiling point after all the BS. I think they need a Class Action suit as we just had the oil changed they said they had to do an update for the battery. The next time I go to drive it the Nav system kept telling me it didnt understand or would send me to other states. I tried to put it in manually and had trouble. I called and got that run around. I have the feeling if we dont pay the Starlink yearly they will even lock you out. I read about that on other sites. One being the piXXed off the page. I am VERY VERY dissatisfied the way I have been treated so far. I just drove the car without the radio on and think I had better check the oil myself as it does not sound right at all... I think I will stick with GM and not get a Subaru like I was going too... Best wishes to all Subaru owners. I did talk to a guy at the after-hours place and I said I would just wait until they are open Monday since he said he could not help at all with why nothing was working.

I have a Forester, it’s a great car except for when the engine light and cruise control light goes on at the same time making the car difficult to drive. I have had this issue 6 times now from 2009-13 and each time I go to the dealership where I bought the car, they say the issue has been fixed but there are always added expenses such as my hose has a leak or etc. Obviously, if I had this issue 6 times, then issue hasnt been fixed. I have been told by the dealership this isnt an ISSUE and that the time lapse in between visits to the dealership are so far apart I shouldnt worry about. When I had this experience for the 6th time this week, I thought writing to company and saying, Hey, when are you guys going to figure this out? Its been five years and a lot of money and no one seems to be able to help me. So today I decided to do a little research. There is a whole site on topics about this issue going back to ’07 all the way up to my last entry… I am still researching. This issue is a big issue, Subaru. Wake up!

Lo and behold the news received today was the transmission is gone and the rear wheel bearing needs to be replaced. While I am thankful I bought the extended warranty at the time of purchase, I cannot understand why a transmission would have to be replaced at 65,000 along with the rear wheel bearing. I am having issues (multiple) with 2011 STI. When I’m driving in the rain and don’t touch my brakes for 5-15 minutes and go to apply them, they act like they don’t work. The engine knocks when it sits for 2 days. It makes the most horrific noise when it’s started and cold (I have video documentation of the engine noise). I spoke with a Subaru Rep named Bob **. He was very kind in setting up my appointment (took 3 days), but everything afterwards has been below average. I took my vehicle into the dealer he scheduled and after the technicians looking at my car, they said there was no problem. Allegedly, the brakes were fine as far as they looked (but they never got the brakes wet). The technician Kurt said he’s never heard that noise before from the engine. I spoke with Bob ** and he said that the dealer’s service manager had talked to me and told me that everything was okay. Well, either Bob ** is a liar or Jeff the service manager from Suburban Subaru is a liar because I never spoke with Jeff ever, other than to ask what him and Bob spoke about and he said that he was just told to fax the info over. Bob said that Jeff had told him they found nothing wrong with my car and since they have found nothing wrong with it, they won’t send out anyone to look at it. I have a safety concern that others are having and they won’t even look at it? Seriously?! I have researched the web and found tons of others complaining about the brakes not working when it’s wet. So this is a problem that Subaru is aware of but won’t acknowledge. I don’t feel safe driving my car when it’s wet because in an emergency situation, I won’t be able to stop and I could kill myself and someone else. All I want is a Subaru rep to come out and take a look but they won’t. I was repeatedly lied to by Bob **. I will never buy another Subaru again.Another thing to add, I took the technician for a drive to show him how my diff clunks when I’m shifting under hard acceleration. So I took it up to 6000 rpm and shifted the car. The gears and the clunk were heard. The technician then said You’re putting this under a lot of stress. How am I putting the car under stress? People rev there STIs up to 5000 rpm and dump it, bounce off the rev limiter, down shift from 6th to 3rd. All I was doing was shifting going in a straight line down the road. The car can’t handle 6k rpm shifts? Why does the motor rev to 6k rpm then? Why it isn’t electronically governed? Subaru is the worst auto company in the world. Never buy a Subaru because from day one, they will screw you. I bought the most expensive car they have and they treat me like crap!

2014 Subaru WRX - Blown rod bearing at 8000 miles. Car was not modded in any way. Honestly, not sure what happened. I am 40, and do not race or mod cars. I had several cars, and never had any issues like this. Car is in the shop, and they replaced the short block only. I do not want the car any more, so will see if Subaru will do the right thing. Very disappointed in this brand. My first Subaru, and maybe the last.

I purchased my first new car in July 2014. I test drove a lot of cars and the Subaru drove the best so I purchased a 2014 Outback. My last two vehicles, I purchased used Toyotas with low mileage and paid them off. I still own and love my Tacoma. I took the Outback to California from New Mexico. I visited friends and drove Highway 1. I was enjoying my road trip and after 3,000 miles, the oil light came on. I immediately pulled over and checked the oil and it was low. I put a quart in, the light went off, and I headed for home. I called the salesman that sold me the car and asked if there is a break-in period I did not know about. The salesman told me the car should not use that much oil and to bring it in for an oil test of 1,200 miles. I did so. At 1,200 miles, I called the dealer and was told nothing was open for two weeks. I took the car to another dealer in town and was told they had to start their own oil test after I was told on the phone by the other dealer the consumption test could be completed by any Subaru dealer. I start a new oil test with this specific dealership. I park the new car and drive my Tacoma to work. During Christmas, I took the Outback to Texas on a road trip. I drove the car 12 hours to and from my destination. Plus a week of all over the state, a few hours here and there. On my return trip, the oil light came on again. I put a quart in, the light went off. I called the same dealer and took the car back. I far exceeded my 1,200-mile limit and the girl checking me in scolded me for putting oil in and said I would have to start a new test. This made me angry and I started to get curious about the runaround. I lose my temper and tell the dealership if they dont fix the problem, they can have the car and Ill stop paying for it. I did not purchase a new car to keep spare quarts of oil in the back. I call for the service manager and he tells me we should have done better. He did not have an attitude like the girl at the counter. He told me Subaru will not do anything unless I complete the oil consumption test to their specs. He told me the manual states that the Outback uses a quart every 1,200 miles. I started thinking about that one. If the 2.5L engine holds 5.1 quarts, uses a quart every 1,200 miles with recommended oil change is at 7,000 miles, I am negative oil at oil change time. Again, this does not make sense.I go online and Google it. The first page is full of Subaru oil consumption articles. I had no idea that my problem is a universal problem and that a lawsuit was filed against Subaru for oil consumption and defective rings. Now I understand the runaround. An article in Motor Trend states Subaru dealers are telling owners that the oil consumption issue is normal and that normal usage is 1 quart every 1,200 miles. But with a new vehicle, this kind of oil consumption is definitely not normal. Owners who are experiencing excessive oil usage can take their Forester, Outback, Legacy, XV Crosstrek, and Impreza models in and ask their Subaru dealer for a consumption test. They will then change the oil free of cost, and ask you to come back in 1,200 miles. If the oil usage is over their acceptable specifications, they could replace the piston rings. The Outback performs beautifully. I purchased the base model 6-speed standard. The Outback is roomy and pleasure to drive. Unfortunately, I now have to convince the dealership to fix the problem. I did not purchase a new car thinking the rings would be defective and the engine must be rebuilt. The car consumed oil on long trips with the cruise control set at 73 to 83 mph driving for 12 to 14 hours straight.I will not take a trip like that for another six months. I will park the car and wait for the next road trip. I also want to make note that on my first road trip, the Outback got up to 28 miles per gallon on the highway. After the first oil light incident, the car gets 23 miles per gallon at best. I am very upset with Subaru. I will be paying for this car for the next five years. I will be driving my trusty Toyota Tacoma 2.7L 4-cylinder with 179 thousand miles on it. The Toyota is not as comfortable and does not have all the bells and whistles but has never used oil and gets 26 mpg. My first new car at 46 years old and I made the wrong choice. The hassle with the dealership, I wish I could give the car back and spend my money on a Toyota.

00 Outback wagon keeps on keepin on. Just flipped 220k and recently completed the dreaded head gasket job on this beast. Both drivers side cylinders were venting into the coolant and I took on this task very soon after diagnosing the blown head gasket. $300 and 40 hours later, mission accomplished...about $1,200 cheaper than having the dealership do it. This problem I anticipated and with this many miles, not a complaint. Things wear out...nuff said. I have two gripes, the first being the engine noise...the work I did had little impact on this embarrassing feature which is common on these cars. Second and biggest issue is the ho-hum mileage this car delivers... best Ive had was 25 mpg. Its just too heavy for the engine and the final drive ratio doesnt deliver what it should on the highway. Then again, this thing is a tank and considered a mid-sized car, pushing nearly 2 tons with a couple of passengers and a light load.

During the afternoon of the December 21st ice storm in Bozeman Montana, my 2005 Subaru Baja slid off the road and down a steep incline. Although I only sustained bumps and bruises, the car was totaled. The accident could have easily been fatal. The windshield was heavily damaged, the car axles were broken, there was severe damage to three sides of the vehicle. I wondered why the airbags had not deployed. When I researched the situation I found there was a recall on 2005 Subaru airbags. Supposedly a faulty release switch and potentially a release of metal shards upon deployment. Maybe I was lucky the airbags didnt go off. I contacted Subaru to see if in light of this situation, they would potentially consider assisting me with a replacement vehicle. After a 2 week delay, Rob the CSR told me that per page ** of the owners manual the airbag would not deploy unless the vehicle was hit from the front or back. Also, although I read that my car was included in the recall, he said it was not. Apparently, the company feel no obligation whatsoever to assist with the situation. Possibly they would have paid more attention if I was injured or dead. I am now an ex-Subaru customer. I will be seeking an attorney to see if others have had similar experiences.

We bought a brand new 2004 Subaru Legacy back in December of 2003. It was running fine until 2008 when the catalytic converters gave up and had to be replaced by the dealership (free of charge then since they say it was still covered under warranty). The new cats were working fine until around June of 2011; then, it gave out again. This time it was not covered by warranty, so we bought aftermarket cats which work for 6 months. Right now, April 2012, the auto parts store is in the process of replacing the cats. Its has been a miserable and stressful situation since the cats can fail the car for emission test. Come on now, how many times do we have to change a catalytic converter for a car in its lifetime considering that it’s only an 8 1/2 year old car? We drove Toyotas, Nissans and other car brands before and never had to experience these problems. There must be something wrong in this picture and we need an answer from Subaru. Or maybe there are other people out there who are having the same issues with their Subarus as well. We would appreciate if these issues are addressed since we already spent so much time, effort and money for such dilemma.

Me and my 12 year old had a lady pull out in front of us in my 2012 Subaru Forester. We ended up hitting a telephone pole on the drivers side. Thank goodness but my side impact air bag did not deploy, I was slammed into the pole very hard and I was doing 20mph when I started down the hill, factor in the velocity of the slide on ice and snow and I was doing well over the 8mph needed to deploy the air bag. I hit hard enough to crumple the rocker sill inside the door and snap the bumper clips and flatten the front tire. We had seat belt bruises of course, my daughter hurt her knee on the door, I injured my arm and shoulder, and slammed my head violently. When I contacted Subaru about this, they did not seem overly concerned, Im still yelling at them about this. I dont know about anyone else but I feel this is a serious malfunction. Ive had other problems too, faulty seatbelts, engine running rough and smelling bad, brakes going bad, stalling, loss of power. And every time I take it back to the dealer, they say we cant do anything, the check engine light is not on. To say the least, this is the most frustrating thing Ive ever heard it makes me want to pull my hair out. I bought my Subaru because Ive owned 3 older ones like 80s and they were good old beaters ya know, so I figured Id buy a newer one. Mine only had 20,000 on it, like new. I wish Id never bought this car, what a mistake.Anyone else feel this way, these big companies always getting away with rooking us little guys? I even contacted a lawyer, he said good luck. Im like really? they almost killed me. I think Im going to try to take them on myself!!! Anyone else interested? If you are write to me **. Im so sick of these guys rooking everyone. You pay 30,000 for a car, it shouldnt be a piece of junk death trap that stalls and does hesitates when you step on it so you can get hit by people real nice. But ya know the check engine light isnt on so we cant fix it. Hey I have no brakes. Well the brakes look good to us we cant help you. Really??? God, such crap.

As soon as my 2016 Subaru Legacy reached 28k miles it began to consume oil. The new dealer has done oil consumption test 3 times. And agree there is a consumption problem. But based on Subaru 1 quart consumed every 1200 miles is acceptable. They cant do anything unless my vehicle fails the consumption test. Interestinly that the threshold is 1200 miles when my car burns a quart of oil approximate 2k miles. And getting worst. I have lost all faith in Subaru... I wouldnt buy their products or recommend them.

Subaru Outback Impreza 2013 - Around seven months ago, I heard a scraping sound coming from the right side of my car as I was driving. When I pulled over, I noticed the front of the side bumper was dragging against the ground. Completely horrified, I had my passenger lift it from inside and hold it in place until we could get to her place where we taped it (to avoid further damage) until I could get it to the dealer. At the dealership, they sent me to Parts, and told me that this would need to be filed under a collision repair, and that the part they needed to order and paint would either be $600 out of pocket or a collision incident through my insurance. As it is a leased car (and did NOT interact in any way with any sort of collision), I was hesitant to pay out of pocket, but decided that was the best move. Until....A week ago, I was driving with family in town. When we got to our destination, and after a few trips back and forth from the car, to unload our possessions, did we notice that the frame around the light in the front of the car, a grey frame that must be no more than 14 by 10 had completely fallen off and was nowhere to be found. We checked the other side and saw that its light frame was still there. Same side as the side bumper incident but of course, nowhere near the part that had previously become loose.(Frankly, Im not sure how the side bumper was ever secure, because if you take a look at whats against the vehicle frame behind where its supposed to be, there are a series of small plastic knobs that seem too flimsy to carry such weight. In fact, we really thought we might be able to get the bumper back on seven months ago because it seemed that easy and there was no damage to the bumper, aside from some scraping it had endured against the road. A few of those knobs were bent and broken, from the inside, so I really thought that when I took it in, they would see this was an internal issue.)Alas, thats not what happened. And like I said, I offered to pay the $600 when the part came in. It took several months to get that call and at the time I did not have the money to pay, so I put it off. Then, this past week, when the light frame mysteriously popped off the car, I called the service manager at Subaru and was greeted with a very rude response. He did not understand how this could happen, as, Parts just dont come off cars. Well, sir, they do. And they have. And I cant be the only one!He questioned if someone had popped it off and taken it. I laughed. When? While Im in the grocery store? At night at the foot of my driveway? I live in a house, in a quiet neighborhood. And that part was still there before we took off on our trip. No. This likely happened while we were on the road. The real question is: Should a pot hole in the road or a rock or anything on the surface of what were driving on be the reason why a part just pops off? Probably not. With that said, please respond if you have had ANY issues with your Subaru where parts suddenly pop off, especially on the exterior of the car. Light panels, frames, bumpers. I didnt even know it was possible for this light frame to pop off like that. I was questioned repeatedly as to if there is any damage around it, and though I kept telling the same story, I was asked if there was any kind of an accident. There wasnt. And when I take it in to the dealer, they will notice that. I understand where they are coming from. But, Id also like to come in armed with evidence that this CAN happen and DOES happen to other Subaru drivers.I am a two-time Subaru driver. The first vehicle was a leased 2011 Outback Sport, same make and model, and I drove it across the country twice. Zero problems. Ive had this vehicle for under a year, and Im already dealing with parts falling off. Once again, please respond if you have had any similar experiences. It will make a better case. I appreciate it!

They dont even know the history of the car service schedule. There is no clean waiting area for customers. Please just come to Jordan without informing the dealer of your visit and see this with your own eyes. It is unbelievable. They lied to Subaru by convincing them that the garage is the one above ground close to the gas station. It is not, it’s the Renault garage .Subaru in Jordan is dying. There are a lot of Subaru lovers in Jordan waiting for solution .By the way, there are no available spare parts in the dealers warehouse. I didnt know Tribeca is a discontinue model. If I had know earlier I wont bother to buy the car. I have spend more than 2000k to fix the car and the value I got for it now is 8500, they really need to take back the car. We finally decided on a new car after buying used for well over 20 years. Finally narrowed it down to a Subaru based on customer satisfaction. Well let me tell you this customer is FAR from satisfied. Started at 14000 miles, when the dealer tells us the tires are down to the warning tread and need to be replaced. REALLY? Mind you all services had been performed at the dealer. So the dealer went to bat for me and got Subaru to replace all 4 tires no charge. Ok cool. So here we are 15000 miles later and guess what? Yep the tires are shot again, this time they check alignment and frame etc. nothing wrong. This time I have to call Subaru customer care. They balk, I argue, they finally agree to replace 3 of the 4 tires. I have to pay for the 4th one. So in 1 year and 30000 miles this Outback is on its 3rd set of tires!!They still cannot tell me why the tires are wearing out every 15000 miles. Tried to blame driving habits. Sorry, but if it was that then my other vehicles would be chewing up tires too! (They are not.) I cannot afford $800+ worth of tires every 6 months!! As soon as I can I will be trading in this hunk of junk for a Ford or Toyota. Never buying a Subaru again!

My car, a 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i, has stalled for no reason at stop lights
My car, a 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i, has stalled for no reason at stop lights, accelerating around 45 mph, and also slowing down to get to a stop light. All of these stalling have happened a few months after the ECM upgrade was done to decrease winter emissions it was a nationwide recall for the engine model 2.5 naturally aspirated. Each one of these times, the engine sputters and shakes the car and then stalls completely. Im completely motionless for a while. I restart the car multiple times and it just shuts off. This happened to me all three times but the last 2 times happened where I lost the engine and temporarily, electric! I had no brakes, and no power steering. The first time it happened, I almost rolled back into traffic but I kept turning the ignition and I got the power back on long enough to push in the e-brake. The most recent time this happened, I blocked up the right turning lane onto a moderately heavy traveled road. I tried to restart the car 6 times and it would turn on and quickly stall. The first time though, I was able to move the car to the right lane instead of in the middle lane while it shook the whole time. They have been absolutely no help to me other than telling me 2 of the 3 times it has been the cam sensor and they will replace it, which obviously isnt fixing a ** thing. The one time it wasnt, the came sensor was when they stated that they found no problem at all. They claimed to have driven it 140 miles and no problem. The very next morning I drive to work and on my way back from work, it stalls for the 3rd time. From Subaru to my house and to work is 8 miles, going back home is about 3.My problem is, the one time they were not able to find a problem, they drove a car for 140 miles without any problems but 11 miles later it happens after the dealer had possession for it for 8 days. I know I dont qualify for the lemon law, but Im trying to think What the ** can I do, the law is not really on my side because Subaru will not buy the car back from me no matter how many repeated problems it has. If anyone has or knows anyone that has a problem like this, please re-post on this forum. Im wondering if this is just me or if there are other people dealing with the same thing. If so, I am looking to combine forces. Because I have no faith in this car and that it cant keep me safe at anytime or anyplace on the road.

I can not believe that Subaru refuse to fix a warranty issue with a new vehicle. Subaru have dodged the issue for 18 months. They refused to admit there was an issue; operator error. Now they admit there is a fault but only want to fix half the problem. Looking at international websites, there are quite a large number of complaints about the 2015 Outback and also the tailgate function. The tailgate has malfunctioned since now and they make up plenty or reasons not to repair the car. I thought this sort of deceptive practice stopped in the last century. So much for buying a new vehicle.

2015 Keyless Legacy Outbacks electric shuts down, no recourse - Several months ago a purchased a new Subaru Outback from Herb Gordon Subaru. First, I truly did not understand what keyless technology meant in practice. When I got it home the trunk lift would only lift halfway. I took it back. They fixed it. It broke again. It later fixed itself. But, one day I moved the car in the driveway and forgot to put it in park. Apparently my husband opened it to put something in. When I came out I could not get it in park and it would not start. It was in total lockdown as if the electric system had totally shut down. I sat with the unreadable instruction book and figured out how to manually get it in park but no luck on starting. My neighbor, an engineer, tried, no luck. Finally after several hours called roadside assistance and they jumped it and all was fine. Friday my husband moved it again in the driveway and forgot to put it in park. Same thing. I got it into park but then nothing would work. It was a Friday so called dealership service. The guy talked me through a few things but said that he thought it was a bigger problem and I should bring it in (a two hour drive). Roadside assistance sent the fax to the wrong place and 3 hours and many phone calls later roadside assistance showed up but this time it would not jump and we arranged for him to come back the next day, Saturday, and tow it to the nearest dealership which is in Waldorf Maryland and hour from my house. I spoke with the woman on the phone, she took the information, but no one has called back as promised I assume because it is the weekend. So I will begin Monday. But this is what I want to say. I hate this car. I love everything but this shut down thing and I dont trust that it will ever be fixed and I think it is an outrage that I buy a brand new car and it does something like this and no one even gets in touch with me.This is my third Subaru and I have loved them in the past BUT the last one had a minor electrical problem (it was an odd year, 2006, in which they tried to combine the heating controls with the radio and you can imagine the result) but it was not like getting stuck for 3 days luckily at home. I feel helpless to do anything but to go onto every consumer website I can find and tell my long sad story. I am giving the car the worst rating possible because it flunked the reliability test so all other things make no difference.

I was a long-time Toyota owner and after putting 210,000 miles on my 2000 Matrix without any issues I decided I wanted to replace it with something that got decent gas mileage and had all-wheel drive. Enter my 2013 Subaru Impreza Sport. Ive had what could be described as minor issues with this car since day one. First, the rear hatch (its the hatchback version) would never shut on the first try. Had that adjusted and fixed.Second was the issue with starting the car which started happening at about 5,000 miles. After googling my issue, I came to find out that this was a common issue that the owners were referring to as a Hard Start and that after denying it for a while, Subaru finally came up with a fix which is basically flashing the cars computer. Subaru sent out a service notification to their dealerships about this issue, but when I went in to 3 different dealerships they denied knowledge of the issue or the service notification until I gave them a copy that I found online (thank you **) and suddenly they remembered this common issue and the fix. I had the computer flashed and I would say the issue is improved, but not totally remedied. At about 30,000 miles I noticed that the oil light would come on after only about 2,500 miles after an oil change. Im concerned that this is going to get worse as the car ages. (Im at just over 50,000 miles now.) One thing I noticed is that a couple days before the light will come on I will smell oil burning, so Im not sure if thats damaging the engine. Ive got into the habit of carrying a couple extra quarts of 0-20 in the spare tire compartment so I can pull over and add oil immediately if the light should come on. A friend of mine had a Subaru WRX thats engine seized because of low oil and his oil light never even came on beforehand. Ive been so disappointed in the quality of this car. From people I know that are die-hard Subaru owners, it seems like they just cant maintain quality with the recent rise in popularity of their cars. Im hoping that the oil issue does not result in a bigger issue before I pay off this loan!

Theres a known problem with the engine that even the GM says once its fixed, theres never another problem. That means its a factory defect, i.e., you need to recall and fix the $2000 problem on all these engines, not say, too bad, so sad to a single mother still paying payment on her car.

I just bought a 2007 Outback in December of 2015. The car had just over 68,000 miles and was immaculate on the inside and out. The engine looked superb and it drove like a dream. 2 weeks after purchasing my new little dream, (now nightmare) it started to overheat. I took it to my mechanic who inspected it and came back with list of problems and these are just to name a few: rack and pinion (aftermarket) had been replaced and was again leaking; stop leak in the coolant system; leaking all kinds of oil underneath the car. My mechanic explained that the previous owner had to have known about the coolant issue because of the stop leak in the radiator. End of the story - the overheating issue has gotten worse (much worse). Despite our best efforts to buy some time, the head gaskets must be replaced and 71,000 miles. I am utterly disappointed with the lack of integrity from the person that sold this car knowing about the issue and making it my problem to deal with. And equally as disappointed by the poor design and horrible issues with the head gasket and Subaru engines. The worst part is what stop leak does to an engine. DO NOT put stop leak in your engine if you are experiencing the overheating issues - chances are, it is only a matter of time before the gaskets blow. Save your engine and get them fixed. I will never buy another Subaru.

I bought my 2013 pre-owned Crosstrek November of last year and I have been in and out of the service department ever since. They ran 3 oil consumption tests to finally figure out that a wire wasnt on. Each visit takes several hours. I went with Subaru because I thought they were above selling faulty cars. Ive tried to get a new Subaru and count my loss but when I took it back into the dealership they gave me a low-ball offer for my trade in. I went into a Chevy dealership and they offered me a way better offer on a my trade in, and that was without me buying a Chevy. Everything about owning and buying my car has been a nightmare.

Subaru advertises free map updates. However in Canada you have to try and download from a website as the vehicle option is disabled. So the map downloader has glitches and the customer service has no clue. If you go to the dealer he will charge you labour but does not have a clue as well.

I have a 2014 Subaru Outback that I bought new. Until now, I loved my car. A few weeks ago, I noticed it having difficulty starting. This happens both when I use the key to start it and when I use my auto start. When it began, it wasnt cold out (I live in Minnesota). It was almost 50 degrees. The car would take longer to start and keep turning over before firing up. Other people even noticed it. I took it in for service and they tried doing a computer reset and told me that should do it. It didnt work, so I took it back.Meanwhile, I had done some research and found that some Subarus can start doing hard starts, which is exactly what this seemed to be. Unfortunately, the dealership I took it to did not take me seriously and tried to tell me that it was normal for my car to start that way in the cold weather (by this time it was in the teens outside for temps). They were unwilling to see it as an engine issue and told me that all cars do this, which was completely ridiculous. Prior to bringing it in, it almost would not start one night and I thought I might have to call a tow truck. If this is what my car is going to do at 3 years old, it needs to go. A Subaru dealership is telling me this is normal for the car and it cannot be fixed, and apparently it isnt that uncommon for this car. I need a reliable vehicle. I plan to get rid of it and get a vehicle I can trust to start. Its disappointing because I really liked this car.

Hi this is Subhkarmanjit **. I’m from Barrie Ontario. I bought Subaru Impreza WRX 2015 pre-owned certified hardly 4-5 months ago. I maintained my car properly did services on time. I got it on 95,000 kms and driven it all way to Vancouver hardly 4400 km one way. I heard some weird noises. I checked everything. I thought it was just driving it too much then after everything was ok I kept driving it until I driven back from Vancouver again 4400 kms all the way to Barrie Ontario then it’s also my daily drive car and I work in Brampton so I drive it from there to Barrie daily. Like 2 months ago I started having issues with my car. The engine lights started showing up and then my car started smelling like something like burning rubber and out of nowhere. And the rpm was like going up and I felt like clutch was slipping on 100 kph and high rpms and my gears were little stiff. It’s not like that I never driven standard car before. I know how to drive standard. This is my third Subaru. I had 2001 Subaru Legacy before twin turbo then 2004 WRX and this is my 4th manual car. I sold my Jeep and got this WRX. I have this extended warranty from Subaru dealership when I bought my car for almost $3400 and I took it to dealership as I was told everything is covered in warranty so I went there. They diagnosed my car and after an hour service department told me it was just faulty o2 sensor and my clutch was started roasting and gears were stiff. When I asked them will they fix everything they said no they can’t fix o2 sensor until it completely dead and clutch is not covered as bumper to bumper warranty or my full warranty says everything is covered and they did nothing. They just erased my all the faulty lights and charged me $121 for just looking at car and I had to pay ask them to fix my clutch in few days because they asked me to pay either for parts or labor and they told me they will give me appointment for another day so I can come and show my car again and get estimates. I waited. They never contacted me or called me. Then on 3/12/2018 I was on highway 400 at midnight around 12 am. I was coming from Toronto back to Barrie when I was changing my lane from right to left suddenly there was big blast under hood and my whole motor was blown and it was big black smoke on whole highway. I couldn’t see anything and also smoke was inside car. I was on 100 kph and suddenly motor started making weird noises. I was so scared and was alone. I pulled it over to side and opened my hood. Saw big crack in engine near the alternator and everything was hanging even belts pulleys and was big crack in motor and oil spills coolant everywhere. I called my brother and other friends because I inhaled smoke and then my car was broke and I was alone. I called tow guy had to pay him $200 to tow it back. Next day I Went to Barrie Subaru dealership and they told me they will cover everything as I have full warranty and they will take report to SPP and they said they will contact me but they didn’t. I took all my tools and stuff from my car and got rental car. Since then they didn’t contact me. I had to contact them and now the thing is they said spp checked and they approved my repair and said motor will be replaced. I checked everything online did research and asked my friends as new WRX motor cost from $6500 to $10000 and with transmission and used ones from $4500 to $7000. I called Subaru dealership on 22/12/2018. They said they can’t fix the car. The repair cost they is gonna be $23000 and if I pay $6000 from my Pocket they are ready to fix it. They told me my car market value is on $15000 and that’s wrong. I got my car valued before and from Barrie to Oakville dealerships. My car still value still stands at $20,000 to $22,000 and I’m so pissed hearing it. At this point that it’s been almost 23 days my car is standing at same spot. It’s not neither getting fixed or took cared. It’s snow season and my car is almost started catching rust and other things is how can a car repair cost $23000. I’m mechanic too. I know everything I have 3 yrs experience too worked in 2 different countries. This is my biggest mistake. I bought Subaru. I wish I would’ve never bought it. It’s not getting fixed anytime soon almost gonna be month. I’m moving soon to other province. I tried to reach everyone. No one is ready to hear me so I’m writing this email. Please help me up with something or I will take this to court. I’m already so stressed about my life and then my car. I already have so many problems to deal with. Please do something soon or replace my car or something. I’m totally tired to going to dealership and contacting them again and again. Thank you.

Bought a 2019 Impreza Sport with manual transmission from Granite Subaru (Hudson NH) in April of this year. The car was great until I took it to the dealer for its first service on 07.13.2019. Once I left the dealer the car started bucking/stalling/losing power in any gear at 25,000 RPM. Suspicious, I checked the oil and found it to be overfilled way past the fill line. After draining it the dealer said the car wasnt right and had to keep it for a few. The service manager called the next day and said it was magically fixed.Next day the problem comes back but worse. The salesman I bought the car from says call SOA. Subaru of America then asks me to take the car in multiple times to have it looked at. I comply, only to be denied there is an issue and Virgil at SOA offers me $700 to drop the case. After having to beg SOA to give me a loaner because the car is unsafe, they have me miss more time off of work to meet with their field engineer. This guy seemed to be more on the lookout to find something to accuse me of rather than actually diagnose the problem. He agrees that something is wrong. A few days later they tell me that that added 93 octane gas from a IRVING station and that is was fixed. As expected it was not. After more of a headache, SOA agreed to repurchase the car... but of course they are now trying to take $2,500.00 from me (originally $9000) for using the car for three months, claiming that they can not refund the loss from 3rd party warranties that the dealer sold. Granite Subaru is claiming SOA is responsible and SOA is saying the dealer. Neither the dealer or SOA are good at communication.I am now fighting for the rest of my money to be added to the settlement letter, and in the meantime the service manager from the dealer keeps calling to say he didnt make a mistake. The owner of Granite Subaru is also the GM and refuses to reply to requests for a call or meeting. This is 2nd BRAND NEW Subaru that has been junk. I purchased this Impreza after my 2015 decided to die after a faulty dealership short block exchange. Please look into other brands and stay away from Granite Subaru in Hudson NH.

I was disappointed to learn that Subaru would not cover the cost of replacing the engine in my car that is burning excessive oil. It currently has about 69,770 miles on it, but the oil burning started around 40,000 miles back in 2018. It was still under warranty when this problem started but it didn’t fail the oil consumption test, and we had a baby so my wife wasn’t driving it much. Then we had another, so the car was only driven some weekends, especially with the pandemic there weren’t many places to go. Fast forward to now, the past year and a half the problem is getting worse because I started driving it daily. I found out some engines have an extended warranty because this is a very common problem with Subarus, but since my car isn’t a manual it’s not covered. I called them a couple weeks ago, and after not calling me back when they said they would or emailing me I called again and and found out they agreed to pay $5,000.Who agrees to pay more than half unless they admit their engines don’t hold up? The customer advocacy manager who called me (she must be the CEO of Subaru because she doesn’t have a manager above her) just went around in circles with me while refusing to acknowledge that this was a problem in 2018. She didn’t say I was a liar but pretty much she said it didn’t fail the test then so just because the oil light came on and there was no oil doesn’t mean it was burning.. O.. Ok? Even though the problem started 20,000 miles before the warranty was up it doesn’t matter. Subaru did offer to pay more than half of the $8000 engine replacement, but even $3,000 is a struggle for us being on one income, with only this one car. Even 70,000 miles is way too low of mileage to have this kind of problem. It seems this problem is very common and this is all very disappointing. Even being on hold with them you hear recordings boasting about “the Subaru family” and how much they care. Well I must be the black sheep of the family. We loved our 2010 forester and traded it in in 2015 for This one. We still thought we would get a new one after this one but if we have to pay for a new engine 10,000 miles past the warranty because of a common problem like burning oil that started during the warranty period (there’s cars 20 years old that don’t have this problem) then no thanks. We will not buy another Subaru again, not so much because of the problems, because hey problems happen, but we will not buy one because they are not willing to stand 100% behind their products (only 62.5% apparently). The car was burning oil at 39,000 miles and they admit that but it wasn’t burning enough to fail the test. Now it’s burning 23oz every 1200 miles. For a 2015 with 70,000 miles. I know, ridiculous. So anyways it’s a little more sentimental for us since we loved the car, but if owning a Subaru means needing a new engine at 70,000 miles then we will buy a different brand, and I recommend you do the same.

My vehicle is out of warranty and software on my head unit is out of date.
My vehicle is out of warranty and software on my head unit is out of date. There is a TSB to update it and fix multiple major bugs and in addition to allow mobile devices to connect. Some bugs can even be considered safety issue (e.g. backup camera lag - it takes 8 seconds for camera to turn on when car put in reverse). Based on Exemption to Prohibition on Circumvention of Copyright Protection Systems for Access Control Technologies act passed in 2014 car manufacturers cannot block car owners from updating their cars software on their own. I understand that such updates are done at my own risk and can possibly void warranty, which I don’t have any longer, so warranty coverage is unrelated to this case.3 other makes I own since 2014 allow owners to update head unit software and make all of the update downloads public. Subaru of America also had updates published and available to public until they removed it few month ago. I sent multiple inquiries to Subaru HQ and received a reply that I MUST go through authorized retailer service in order to receive updates. When I contacted retailer they stated that such updates can only be done for a fee and they can’t provide update media to a customer even when I agreed to pay for it. This is direct restriction of customer’s rights and it is done only for the purpose of making it impossible for customer to update their software on their own, forcing people to go through retailer services so Subaru can make more money. I love the company and this is 2nd Subaru vehicle I own, but this new business model is just unacceptable. It shows how Subaru as a company cares less about laws and its customers.
