My 2014 Forester sucks down oil. When you call Subaru corporate they deny the problem, even though theres class action lawsuit and the dealer told me they had to replace the engines. I have to keep driving it back to the dealer every time the oil light goes on for the oil consumption test. I now have a lemon law attorney going after them. Its a shame because I really like the car, but Subaru plain ol lying to me has soured me for good. Never again. Oh, and btw, they sent their dealers a manifesto to fix for the problem. Ya know, the one they nothing of, and basically stated that whenever you do anything but park the car, youll burn oil. Subaru must be Japanese for jokesters or liars I guess.

I have owned my Legacy only a few week. Pulling slowly into a parking space, the car lunged full speed into a brick wall. My passenger suffered 3 broken ribs, I had whiplash, banged knees, and we both suffered injuries from the seat belts. Contacted Subaru Corp, and heard back. He said stop the repairs. I told him the repairs were cosmetic, and he could test the car after repairs, that the hood, fenders and bumper didnt cause the problem. He said they wouldnt do that. Then he suggested that I trade in the car. Sure, so someone could buy this defective car??? I said I wanted a comparable car, and he said they wouldnt do that either. The car had been a corporate car, with 31,000 miles on it. I wonder if it had the problem when they sold it to me.

I would give negative stars if I could. My family has owned 3 Subaru vehicles because we believed their lies about it being a safe and reliable car. We have young children. Never have I entered a car thinking there is a possibility that the engine will suddenly die and then burst into a raging fire. It is a miracle I am alive. It is a miracle our 3 year old is alive. Subaru and their lawyers are only offering credit for a new car. Seriously? Never will we buy another Subaru. Buy a Subaru if you’re okay with dying and your family dying just by driving their car.

The horn on my 2009 Sabaru Impreza started to sound spontaneously while sitting in my driveway. My son finally removed the fuse (my 21 year old son drives the car most of the time). This was in April 2011. We took the car to the dealership and they determined that the horn was damaged due to excessive outside force and that my son must have hit the steering wheel repeatedly with his fists or a hammer. The price to fix the horn would be $966.80 plus tax. My son loves the car and takes very good care of it. He told Donna that he did not damage the steering wheel and she told him to just admit it. The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago and the young man finally admitted it, she said. Again, my son said that he did not hit the steering wheel. He saw a tiny dent in the emblem on the steering wheel about a week after we got the car. But he didnt say anything to me and said he didnt want to bother the Sabaru people about it. It didnt interfere with the car at all and it wasnt worth complaining about (he knows better now). Now the cars inspection is due and it cannot pass without a horn. I have talked to the service manager and customer service. I have had several phone calls (long ones, as it takes about 30 minutes to get through to anyone) and learned that the Sabaru company has an excellent system for keeping a customer from speaking to anyone. I think they invented the run around. The people working in customer service are nice at first. But as they keep putting you off and you keep calling, they get more and more rude and abrupt. I spoke to Jeff, Bill, and finally Shirley. Shirley offered me 50% off the warranty rate which she said was $800. When I asked what a warranty rate was, she said that if the warranty is in effect, there is a certain rate that the customer pays. No warranty means the non-warranty rate which in my case she said was $1400. She said, Thats our final offer; take it or leave it.” She said she thought it was a very generous offer considering I did the damage myself. I told her that was exactly the point: we did not do the damage. I was skeptical about her actually being a customer service rep. So, I asked what her job title was and she said she was the customer relations manager for the entire region, whatever that means. I have written a letter to the corporate headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ and a letter directly to the president of Subaru of America. I went back to Mid-Hudson Sabaru to try and reason with them. They again said that I or my son caused the damage. When I said that was not true, the manager said, Well, thats our determination and what you say really doesnt matter.” Also, I asked Donna if the $966.80 was the warranty rate or the non-warranty rate and she said it was the non-warranty rate. Then, I told her about Shirleys conversation with me and suddenly the $966.80 became the warranty rate. Donna said she actually did not know where Shirley got the $1400.00 price from. I told her that Shirley said she got the figure from her. Donna said that was not true (and they say Im lying!). Manufactured figures, lies, back peddling, avoidance behavior, and general disrespect have been nonstop since this problem began 9 months ago. I told them I would not pay the $400 as I did not cause the problem and it should be covered under the factory warranty and that my integrity was not for sale. They said, Whatever. Sabaru couldnt care less about my problem. That’s a nice company policy. I told the service manager, Rob, that I might as well give them the car back as we cant drive it uninspected. I said, I bet youll fix the horn then. He said, Of course. Then it will be ours. Dont buy a Sabaru. I never will again.

Have received 5 different explanation how it works and none matched the handbook. Finally a man spoke with me, the foremen I think, he told me they could not fix it and could not or would not replace it. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN Oct 2014. EVEN NOW I only have just over 14000 miles on it. This has been going on since the first week of May. I bought my third new Subaru last fall and noticed the drivers seat shifted forward and back about 1/4 in each direction. Every fast stop or start you notice the seat and your body shift slightly. I took it in the first time and the dealership said that it was within tolerances. On the second visit after contacting Subaru corporate they told me that I had the seat too high and that had I lowered it the movement would stop, but they were going to replace the entire seat anyway. I waited for 3 weeks until they finally told me to take the car home until the seats come off of national backorder. The third visit they replaced either the seat back or the entire seat depending on who you speak to, but the seat still moves even if it is lowered. More calls to Subaru corporate to finally be told that the movement is within their tolerances. I told them I would never buy another Subaru and they were okay with that. They dont seem to care about the quality of their cars any longer and dont seem to care if they lose customers forever.

I can not believe that Subaru refuse to fix a warranty issue with a new vehicle. Subaru have dodged the issue for 18 months. They refused to admit there was an issue; operator error. Now they admit there is a fault but only want to fix half the problem. Looking at international websites, there are quite a large number of complaints about the 2015 Outback and also the tailgate function. The tailgate has malfunctioned since now and they make up plenty or reasons not to repair the car. I thought this sort of deceptive practice stopped in the last century. So much for buying a new vehicle.

Purchased 2000 14 Subaru WRX in June. I was advised the tires on the car were summer only tires so I purchased a new set of rims and tires for the winter. When I went to change the summer tires to the winter tires, I noticed the interior edge of the tire were worn down to the cords, the rest of the tire look brand new. Took the car to a Subaru dealer, they put the car on the alignment machine and said everything is in specs, that theres nothing wrong with the car. Since they say theres nothing wrong with the car they will not replace my tires. The car has 20,000 miles on it. I have maybe ten thousand miles on my summer tires and ten thousand miles on my winter tires. I rotate the tires myself every other oil change. The dealer wants documentation on tire rotation which I cannot provide since I do my own maintenance. I like the car, its fast, handles well and is great in the snow. As of now I am trading in my 2014 Subaru because I cannot afford to purchase tires every 10,000 miles. I receive no satisfaction whatsoever from Subaru. I find that Subaru is very unhelpful in dealing with consumers complaints.

Had a 2013 Impreza, from day one it was consuming oil. Brought it in for three different consumption tests that the dealer recommended. It had a crankshaft sensor issue, a burned out O2 sensor and never once got any of my stuff resolved under warranty. Never replaced the crankshaft sensor because the dealer failed to find the fault and I replaced the O2 sensor before trading it in. Dealer and Subaru was worthless. It consumed 1 quart of oil every 1500 miles, puffed blue smoke, had a noisy front end clunk going over bumps and failed to get even close to EPA MPG due to engine issues. Engine ran rough, dealer saw it for 4 times each consumption test and a few times for each additional problem, no action ever taken, no offers for trade-ins, nothing. Just barely squeaked by the test. Would never purchase a Subaru again. What a hassle. The independent shop did more than Subaru ever did and recommend that I dump it and pick up something else. Owned it for two years, and nothing was ever taken care of. It was an absolute turd, ruined the entire experience for me. Traded it in with a swapped O2 and topped it off. Good riddance.

I bought my 2017 Outback in May of 17 and for two weeks worked good. Almost no problems. Then all of the sudden EyeSight started malfunctioning and then the anti collision auto braking started up when no other vehicles were even around or in sight. The blind spot detection started going off and lighting up both mirrors. Again no vehicles around within at least a mile on a two lane road, at the same time it would suddenly brake with no alarm or any sort of notification. Then eyesight would turn off and not allow me to switch to cruise control (not adaptive cruise control). Then almost two weeks to a month after that I started getting noise from center console/front of vehicle area. So I took it to the dealership and they said it was bad tires. So I went and bought a new set, well that didnt fix the problem. Took it back in immediately and they continued to look over it and came back that they transmission, transaxle, and wheel bearings were all bad, so after almost two weeks in the shop I got it back and it worked fine for about a month. Then the infotainment system went bad, then blindspot again, then it started stalling out with AC on coming to a stop, which brings me to now. Now the noise at the beginning is coming back and the blind spot is acting up again and this time only near railroad equipment.I forgot the windshield broke a month after having it, not due to any rocks or anything of that sort. Just randomly popped and cracked all the way across staring from the passenger side. I bought the car with 4 miles on it. Now it has 56k and is always highway driven and never driven hard at all. The fastest the has ever been pushed was 85 mph passing semi trucks. I have started to notice GPS seems to constantly lose connection, but that could be because of the area I live in. There seems to be a lot of GPS problems up here so not that big of a deal.I have been in contact with Subaru of America throughout the whole ordeal and all they say is take it to the shop. Seriously no **. I thought I might try to fix it my self and void the freaking warranty. Subaru fan base seems to be loyal to the company no matter what even if they absolutely are freakin terrible. They have offered no solutions to the problems but besides take it to the dealerships shop and they will have to recreate the problem. Most times they fail to do so because its either not driven far enough to recreate it or its just not looked at that in-depth.Now I am seeing if Subaru will either compensate for time out of my work and having the car constantly in the shop and them selling a lemon, or just filling for lemon law. I am currently looking for options. I will never buy another Subaru ever again. I am done with being treated like an idiot from S.O.A. and being told to just take it to the shop. Its already in the shop once a month for oil changes which are outrageously expensive and tire rotation. When people tell you they are reliable dont believe them. Also when you drop almost $37k on vehicle you expect it to work, and on top of that I drive for my job and if I dont have a reliable and safe vehicle for work I wont have work for long. Anyway be very careful buying a Subaru and I advise if you do stay away from eyesight systems. Pretty much the only thing decent about the car is the looks somewhat. The only reason I bought the damn thing is because I trusted what people said about them being reliable and the amount of interior room and interior cargo space it had, but never again.

Damage to our 2012 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited - When my wife was backing out of the garage, the transmission jerked and caused the vehicle to graze the workbench causing damage to the left front wheel well area. Though we took the vehicle back to the original dealership and they admitted several updates on the transmission needed to be done, Subaru of America feels this was strictly due to driver error and refuses to pay for the damages. There are many bugs on the computer from other consumers regarding transmission problems on this model as well as several others. But they will take no responsibility even though the repairs would be less than $550.00.

This is the best car Ive ever owned. Although its an SUV, it rides very well - not hard like my Jeep Renegade did. Passengers in the back seat tell me it is very comfortable. I have the Limited model, so it has some great features like Subarus Eyesight. That feature is a game-changer for driving. I will never own another vehicle without that. I feel much safer since it keeps me from drifting into another lane, can brake quickly in an urgent situation and, best of all, driving on the highway with cruise control, the system adjusts your speed so that you never creep up too close to another vehicle. Its a must have for long distance driving. I love the fact its all wheel drive. I feel much safer driving in rain and snow. Traction is awesome.Im super happy with my gas mileage, too. Average driving around town is usually upper 20s. On the highway, its always in the mid to upper 30s. I tested it one time on an open flat interstate -- no hills, steady speed of 63 mph with the AC on. The computer readout showed 44 mpg. Ive compared the computer read-out to the old-fashioned way to determining mpgs and its usually off by about 3. That means I got over 40 mpg with the Crosstrek! The Crosstrek has a CVT transmission (continuously variable, not gears) and, although a good number of people in Crosstrek social media groups complain about it, Ive never had an issue. Its smooth and even feels like a regular automatic. The other typical complaint is that the engine doesnt have enough power. Is it the fastest car Ive ever driven? No. Does it have incredible pickup? No. But it gets the job done. Ive never had an issue, for example, pulling out onto a highway. Overall, 5 stars for this vehicle.

My husband backed my new 2017 Impreza 2.0i Premium with Eyesight into our plastic trash container at low speed. The trash container had no damage. The Impreza was badly dented. In addition, the paint over the dent cracked and fell off. I am dismayed that a low-speed collision with plastic was able to do so much damage. The steel skin of the Impreza is weak. The paint is brittle, since it did not follow the contour of the dent (which was round and not sharp). The paint adhesion to the steel is poor since it peeled away after it cracked. Subaru proudly advertises the strength of the cars high-tensile steel skeleton, but they do not mention that the skin and paint are weak. I am afraid that the appearance of the car will deteriorate rapidly as it accumulates the inevitable dings over the years. I do not yet know whether the dealership will repair this dent.

I have an Outback...It is a fantastic car. Lots of room and no major blind spots. It has the power needed for highway driving and passing. A feature many miss is the luggage rack with the crossbars built right in! Helps the aerodynamics for fuel consumption which by the way is very good. It is interesting to note that the outback has more towing power than the Forester. The only dissatisfaction with Subaru is their packages - confusing and not always making sense.

Id like to share with you my experience with newly purchased Subaru Legacy
Id like to share with you my experience with newly purchased Subaru Legacy 2015 (Basic Edition). I purchased this car a month before my lease was coming to an end. I knew I was going to go for a basic trim package, and I ended up doing so without actually seeing it for couple of several reasons. First, dealerships simply DID NOT have basic trims in the showrooms around my area. I trusted the company to deliver something that any other normal automotive company would do. Like Toyota or Honda. For the price I pay... you know what I mean. I did assume that basic trim would be more modest but did not anticipate that it will be borderline dysfunctional. So, after couple of days of driving, I noticed that my little daughter shoveling some dirt into suspicious hole in the trim (see pic attached). At first I thought it is misalignment. Then I thought, it must be bad molding that shrunk during manufacturing. Until I saw identical issue on the other side. This discovery made me question other parts of the car, so I did some QC around and found another issue with the rear window defroster (see pics attached). These two issues quickly got complimented with another annoying feature of the Subaru Bluetooth, where there is absolutely NO WAY to inset a pause sign between the numbers (comma or P, depending on phone model - I tried both), which prevents me from using most of my numbers to overseas, or calling to a corporate numbers with extensions. Not so much for a safety and hands-free dialing. This time Subaru designers also decided not to bother with ability to edit the number - it can be either manually dialed in or loaded from the phone.I decided to pay a visit to Willowdale Subaru Service Center, where I bought my Subaru from. Two polite gentlemen assisted me in my quest. They quickly resolved my concerns with the defrosting system. Apparently, it is a design feature. In my honest opinion, decision to spare for a client additional luxury of clear rear view and leaving minimum needed to pass under bar of safety regulation specs is not the best strategy for a company that wants to earn loyalty in tough competitive market. As for the gasket, shop foreman ** took me to another basic trim Subaru Legacy 2015 and showed me same trim feature there. I guess, the intent was to convince me that it is perfectly normal to have it.Luckily for me, I just happened to find another Subaru Legacy (2014 year) in the showroom that had exactly same trim design - that car actually had a gasket or caulking that tightly closed the gap, and by that logically protecting the inside of whatever is inside the threshold frame from the weather elements (Canada has very salty roads during winter time). Same sort of protection (plastic flap that capped the trim from inside to prevent outdoor dirt to get under the threshold) was on the front side. My 2015 did not have this either. Just white plastic abruptly ends leaving a finger-sized gap. Foreman ** promised that he will inquire on availability of the gasket with Subaru manufacturer. I will wait for 1 week to get the answer. Frankly, as snow hit us already, I would expect gasket to be installed by then. We will see. As for the Bluetooth - Subaru did not have a plausible explanation.

Recently we purchased a 2007 Subaru Outback, our 14th Subaru. This is the worst SUBARU that was ever made! It had 107,458 miles on it, so we thought we would be driving it at least to 250,000 or more. However, on day 6, the engine caught on fire in Virginia, 699 miles from home. SO we paid to have it towed home, another engine was put into it and guess what. That is now gone too. In between these 2 engines the brakes had to be replaced because the lines rusted and broke causing fluid to leak all over the place, but because Im the 2nd owner SUBARU of AMERICA will not help at all.EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, especially finding out that they have been having engine problems and brake issues with these vehicles. BOTH issues have been causing these 2007s, vehicles to catch on fire. SHAME on you SUBARU of AMERICA, consumers need to know these vehicles catch on fire because of engine and brake issues. WE were a SUBARU family, but this month I bought a TOYOTA and a CHEVY, its the first time in 26 years that I DIDNT BUY ANOTHER SUBARU. Clean up your ACT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT or even KILLED!!!

I own a 2013 Outback 2.5. I drive a ton for work, family and fun. Like 30k per year. Pretty quickly I realized my car was going through a lot of oil. Oil light was going on at 2,500 miles. The dealership said it was probably because of the amount of miles I drove. I would just add the oil. At 90,000 miles my transmission was making a horrible whiny noise that got worse. They said I needed a new transmission because they cant fix the CVT. It is an all enclosed unit. They said it would cost about $8,000.00 but would talk with Subaru about getting some help. It still cost me $2,000.00 and I was driving a loaner for about three weeks. At 110,000 miles I get a letter in the mail about a Class Action lawsuit regarding the oil consumption issue. I take it to the dealer as directed. They changed the oil and I bring it back after 1250 miles so they can verify oil consumption. What do you know, my car goes through too much oil! They replaced the small block for no charge. I had my car back in three days. My point is that I was less than happy about the issues my car had, but more than happy with Subarus and my dealers response to those issues.

We purchased this vehicle Brand new and have experienced nothing but issues within the first year. The vehicle now has 10k miles and I’ve experience jerking from the transmission, my panoramic sunroof cracked for no reason (no point of impact), and the most troublesome has been the automatic liftgate; the liftgate constantly gets stuck with a non-stop chiming and the only way to reset it is no remove the battery!!!! This is a known problem and a quick Google search will prove a lot of consumers have similar problems with this vehicle. I’ve had the liftgate become stuck in the airport, hotels, etc. This is not only embarrassing but completely unacceptable for a brand new 40k vehicle!? Come on Subaru!!!! The quality is terrible!!! Never again!

2014 Forester with 35k miles. Our Bluetooth is not working properly. I thought this would be an easy fix, and I was not too stressed by it. In my error, I forgot to mention it to the service department when I brought the car in last time. Three months later I had the car in to the service dept. for a standard check up and mentioned it to them... The whole radio unit needs to be replaced in order for the failed Bluetooth to work again! If only I had mentioned it during my previous checkup it would have been covered under warranty. Subaru is charging over $500 for this replacement. I will go without. My chief question is, why is the Bluetooth failing? Its not that old and its not as if it is an item (i.e. brakes, or tires) that might get wear down from overuse. In addition, when you press the accelerator on the 2014 Forester, a small delay and then it takes off. Very disconcerting. We have many family members who own Subaru and at our last family reunion everyone was grumbling about their Subaru and saying they will not buy another. Its a shame. This was our first Subaru purchase after many years with Honda. We were tempted to try a new car and had heard such great things about the Subaru. We will be going back to Honda.

Note: This is my 4th New Subaru and mostly like my last. I have had my car in at the Subaru dealer 6 times since 12/6/14 for the SAME issue and most recently 7/6/15. The issue is with Low Oil Levels. They performed 3 oil consumption tests and I have been told twice that they replaced a sensor and performed an upgrade on the software. Note: Each time I took my car in for this issue, the Oil Can Light was on and the info screen on the dash information window displayed Check Engine Oil Levels System detects low engine oil levels. The 1st time the low oil lights came on was on 12/6/14, I was on the highway, and I stopped at a nearby auto repair shop to have them check the oil. They did the check, they told me that the dipstick was dry... I requested they put oil in the car. I then drove to dealership Service Dept. that same day, 12/6/14 (Invoice # **), with miles at 18,554 (difference of 4,605 from last oil change). Note: The date of the previous oil change was on 8/16/14 (Invoice # **) with mileage at 13,949. The Subaru owners manual indicates that the car should go 7,500 miles between oil changes. 12/6/14 - start of 1st oil consumption test. The subsequent dates of these services for this same issue were: 1/3/15 (Invoice # **) mileage 19,906 in for results of 1st consumption test, they also started a second oil consumption test on 1/3/15 - same date as the 1st results, they topped off the oil. On 1/31/15 (invoice **) mileage 21,380 returned for the results of the 2nd Oil Consumption test, they also charged me for an oil change. On 3/24/15 - Oil Level Low message displayed, mile at 23,755, Invoice ** - Service covered the start of a 3rd oil consumption test, and topped off the oil. Miles since last oil change were 2,375.4/18/15 - the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. I was told by the service advisor that they were going to replace the sensor and upgrade the software, and top off the oil. The invoice # for 4/18/15 is **, mile at 25,020 - 33,640 since the last oil change, 1,265 miles since the dealer service dept. topped off the oil.7/6/15 the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. Invoice # **. Upon arrival, I showed the message displayed in my running car to the Service Advisor, he repeated the issue back to me and then the Service Manager took over. The service manager asked what service was performed last time. I told him that the service advisor indicated that they replaced sensor and they updated the software. After being at the dealership service department for over 1 hours the Service Manager informed me that they did NOT replace the sensor or upgrade the software on 4/18/15. They were going to do that today (7/6/15). Mile at on 7/6/15 27,470 - 2,450 since previous oil top off by dealership and 6,090 miles since last oil change including two oil top offs by the dealership.I will be requesting Subaru open a claim for this issue with 2014 Subaru Forester (as soon as the website will accept my vin #) as the dealership service department has failed to request Subaru, even though I have requested them to do so 3 times. Note: On July 6th, 2015 I heard a service advisor talking with another customer about his older Subaru that was in for an oil change. The customer asked the service advisor if the oil in his car would take a 3,000 mile trip, the answer was yes. I turned to the Subaru Service Manager and asked if my 2014 Subaru Forester would be good for a 3,000 mile trip without the Low Oil Level lights coming on, he said I dont think so.

I bought a brand new Subaru Outback in 2005 and the engine completely faile
I bought a brand new Subaru Outback in 2005 and the engine completely failed at 51,000 miles out of nowhere in 2009. I fought Subaru on it for 3 months and they finally agreed to pay for the new engine. Now, after 3 years and 30,000 miles the engine has failed again! The car is only 7 years old and has had 2 complete engine failures. Subaru is telling me they cant do anything about it and they want $4000 to fix it, about twice what a local mechanic might quote.I spoke to my dads mechanic who has been working on cars in the same location in Palo Alto for more than 30 years (since before I was born.) He said that he wont work on Subaru engines because there is a major problem with them. They blow head gaskets and then Subaru tries to pin the failure on the mechanic or on the owner and it causes problems. Apparently, there are many mechanics here that wont touch them because Subaru legal is taking care of this engine problem. When I look online, there are dozens of sites about this Subaru engine problem, websites were hundreds of people have logged in and documented their head gasket failures at 30,000, 50,000, 70,000 miles. Way too soon for any engine to be failing. Subaru still denies theres a problem, but they redesigned the engine a few years ago and now its not failing in the new cars. Several folks have tried to put together class action lawsuits, but I dont think any of them have gone forward. Meanwhile, if you look on sites that give recommendations on buying used Subarus, they all say if youre going to buy one from roughly 1998-2006 with this particular engine, you need to make sure its failed once and had the major repair done. Otherwise, its not worth buying because it will fail soon. Thats crazy! From what I can tell - most people just go ahead and pay for the repair, some people get better deals, and a few actually get the repairs covered. It seems to depend entirely on how much of a fight you put up. A friend of my mothers has already had 2 new engines put in because of this problem in the first 80,000 miles, too, and he paid for them!My car is currently sitting at Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City, waiting to be worked on. It originally failed on Christmas Day. So, its been more than 2 weeks and nothing has been resolved. At this point, my goal is to get Subaru to buy the car back from me. Id be happy with Blue Book Value. I just dont want to deal with it anymore. And it breaks my heart because I love my car. But its given me 3 years of stress now, so Im done. Is there anything you can do to help me and other Subaru drivers? Thanks so much for your time.

I have owned a 2014 Outback since 12/2013. I am the only owner and have kept the car meticulously maintained. It is really a nice ride and handles well. Two weeks ago I had a “rumble”. I thought it was a tire but tires were fine. I called a tow truck and had it taken to my local mechanic, a Subaru trained mechanic. Turns out that the VALVE SPRING BROKE!! Damaging the rocker arm and camshaft. $2455 and two weeks later I have the car back. Subaru of America will do ABSOLUTELY nothing for me. I have 124,800 miles on the car and planned on driving it for quite a while longer. This damage happened due to no fault of mine. There is a defect in the 2014 Outback engine.

I bought a 2008 Subaru Outback for my 21-year-old son in May 2013 with 61,000 miles. Before my purchase, I had the car inspected and was told the head gasket was leaking. The dealer finally agreed to split the cost with me. My son travels 2,000 miles to school in Montana and has had two oil changes over the seven months that we have owned the vehicle. He had the local dealership inspect the vehicle before heading to Chicago for Winter break, and he had to have one of the front axle boots replaced for $400. On the way home with no warning in the middle of North Dakota, the oil light goes on and the engine dies. The local mechanic wanted nothing to do with Subarus, so my son took the Amtrak home at a cost of $270 and I shipped his car to Arlington Heights, IL at a cost of $775. I sent it to the dealer I purchased the car from and they said the issue was not the head gasket, but the oil pump, and I needed a new engine costing $4,200. Both the North Dakota mechanic and my local mechanic that I trust said the head gasket was leaking as well. The dealer did not agree and would not give me a new engine and Subaru USA declined any responsibility for this poor excuse for a vehicle. After reviewing several websites on Subaru customer complaints, there is a common theme of oil leaks and bad oil pumps. I have owned many vehicles in the 47 years that I have been driving, and have never had such major problems. There should be a huge class action settlement for Subaru owners. I will never buy another one and will voice my displeasure with anyone who will listen.

Contacted Subaru about a recall on my dashboard because I lost the recall card. They told me that that recall was over in June around the end of the month. I call on July 15th. I told them that there was no date on the card that noted when the recall was done. The representative was very nice but they still would not replace it. I feel they are responsible because they used fabric that melts in the sun. I feel that Subaru quality has gone downhill in their cars. BUYER BEWARE!!! Oh, but they did send me a $300.00 COUPON IF I DO WANT TO REPLACE IT. Thanks but no thanks. The estimate was $780.21 to replace it. Plus a lot of their cars have a head gasket problem.

Ive read all the rave reviews about Subaru’s reliability so I purchased a used Outback about 2 years ago. About 3 months into having it the motor blows all its coolant out at a stop light leaving me stranded. Get it home, fix the head gasket and its good for about another year and it overheats with lots of oil in the coolant tank - this time Im way out in the woods. This time instead of fixing the head gasket I buy one of those from Japan 50k motors and put it in and it immediately overheats so waste more time yanking it back out and the shop I got it from fixes it and I have to spend more time putting it back in. With the new motor in the tranny now starts puking oil out of the rear main seal so I get a rebuilt one because its cheaper than fixing the old one. Then the radiator starts leaking. The abs toner ring breaks which forced me to do wheel bearings, and the cv boots had all split. Ive been trying to sell this car for a while now but things keep going wrong. Right now the cam seals are leaking on the exhaust, so no one wants to buy it. Ive spent more money fixing it than on the car itself and has spent equal time broke than running. These things sell so cheap used Im at a huge loss. Dont buy a Subaru!!

We bought a brand new 2009 Subaru Outback in OKC just before moving to Colorado. We had no big issues with it until the engine blew at 57,028m. There were no engine or oil warning lights. The dealer said they would not cover the engine because we did not have all of our maintenance records. It was around $7k for the new engine. Not happy. Now, two years and less than 38k miles later, the engine is failing again. After the nightmare of the first engine mess, we kept excellent oil change records. The dealer says the engine is outside of its one-year warranty, regardless of our records. I took this up with Subaru Corp who graciously have offered me a $1000 credit on the repairs (a goodwill gesture) and the dealership has reduced the total repair cost to only $3800. So I have to pay $2800 for another engine. Is this how Subaru stands behind its products? Am I expected to replace my engine every two years? Not to mention it took them almost two months to get back to me with their decision. Meanwhile, we havent been driving the car so as not to damage it further. A huge inconvenience. Needless to say, I will never buy Subaru again and they will be hearing from our attorneys. There is no way this is normal.

When I found out the head gasket is going on my 2009 Subaru Legacy, extremely well maintained, and only 70,000 miles on it, I was stunned. After researching this, it has been a well-known problem for millions here and abroad, due to flawed (i.e., cheesy) design. This is an expensive repair!! I am wondering if anyone else is interested in a class action suit. I dont want to have to pay 3,000 for a new head gasket because the company skimped on design and materials. I am livid. In March of 2017 we purchased a brand new 2017 Subaru Impreza and we had 4 free oil changes. And a month or less before the each oil change the oil light comes on and on the last free oil change the light came on 2 wks afterwards. They kept the car for 3/5 days to find out why the car was consuming so much oil. When we went to pick up the car, they said they couldnt find anything wrong with the car. They then wanted to do an oil consumption test. Never heard of this until it was done on my new car. They filled the motor with oil and said bring back at 1200 miles or more! Anyway we took it back and we were told, that we were going to check the oil level together after about 10/15 min. They came after 5 min to get us, (when we went outside they had already pop the latch the hood, not after,) that we were going to check the dipstick. I was suspicious. Now... not trusting this routine at all. Or the technicians. (Plus they said it was the way the driver was shifting and driving, which affects the transmission and not the motor). After talking to the person who sold us the car, and their finance person? The dealer will not take the car back, they want to give us a new one. We dont want a Subaru anymore. We have tried contacting the Subaru manufacturer to no avail. I look up fuel consumption test and Subaru popped up. Never heard of fuel consumption test. I am afraid of owning a Subaru after this happening to a new car. I have heard good things about Subaru but now I am not so sure.

I purchased a new Outback in 1998. Sometime after 60k miles, the engine was noticeably leaking oil. I was told it was the head gasket but it was out of warranty. I finally paid $1800 to replace HG at 90k, but the transmission went bad soon after that which cost $1200 for a used replacement. In 2008, I purchased an Outback Limited again, and was told the head gasket problems were solved, only to find out recently at 94k miles that my head gaskets blew probably around 70k miles.I contacted SOA to tell them of the problems I have had since 1998 and they were rude and unhelpful. They do not care about their loyal customers even though they make a big deal about Subie owners in their Drive magazine. Its all hype to promote themselves. Be warned; if you buy any Subaru car, used or new, the engine will soon start leaking oil and it will destroy your head gaskets, costing you at least $2k worth of repairs.

I love my 2013 Subaru Impreza and had no issues up to now. I know Im part of a class action suit, and I reviewed it and saw it was not only for oil issues but also for CVT transmission problems. My car is 62,000 and Ive done all of the services. After my 60,000 check up, where everything checked out fine, I heard an odd grumbling noise and was told I needed a new transmission, which luckily is still under warranty. However, there are simply no parts available in all the USA and it could take weeks or months due to back order. I was told it was safe to drive, but I live alone and drive country roads and was told it could stop at some point. To me thats not safe. I find it unacceptable that a car so popular should have such a serious issue. Ive been in touch with the customer service hotline and someone keeps promising me hell try to expedite getting the part, but theres been no action. I cant even get a guesstimate. Ive been offered $500 for a rental car, but thats only 10 days and that will not even begin to cover that it could take weeks. So, its worthless right now until I can even get an estimated arrival date. Im beginning to think I need to trade in the car, but after this, not sure I want another Subaru. Buying a new car is hard work and Im not in the mood for all of that. I dont like driving around with a faulty major part of the car. Im disgusted and angry. Im going to write a letter to the Chief Operating Officer at their headquarters to see if I can get some action.

I purchased a used 2008 WRX Sti with 20,000 miles back in February of 2012.
I purchased a used 2008 WRX Sti with 20,000 miles back in February of 2012. The person I bought it from was Dave **. Dave was at the time (until very recently) a member of the Subaru USA rally team and this car served as his daily driver. Never raced or rallied in the slightest. Just a fun car to drive around town. At 17,000 miles under his ownership he blew an engine. Apparently he was doing some donuts in the snow and redlined it a little too long causing the engine to pop. He had some mods done to the vehicle which would technically void the warranty. Keep in mind this car is made to be modded as its not the everyday thing you take to the grocery store. Anyways.... Subaru agreed to warranty his engine under the pretense that they put most of it back to stock. So the new engine is put it and the car is back to normal. I buy it 3k miles later with the impression that I am getting a car with 20,000 miles but an engine with very little miles. Great right? Well no... not so much.Flash forward exactly 20,000 miles to December of 2013. I had just changed the oil as I was about to leave from North Carolina and drive to Minnesota for the holidays to see family. Made it all the way there with no problems. Stay the first night and then the next morning (Christmas Eve) I leave from my aunts home to my grandmothers with my young brother and sister in the car with me. No racing, no donuts, no hard driving whatsoever. Simply a morning commute to my grandmas with the family in tow. I get a quarter mile from my destination and the car shuts off and is blowing smoke out the back. I literally coasted into my grandmas driveway, thankfully. This now begins my so far month long battle with Subaru and getting a fair deal out of this.I had it towed to the closest Subaru dealership (200 dollars) where it sat for a solid week and a half before it was addressed. The dealership guessed what was wrong with it and told Subaru it had been previously modded and flashed. Subaru, based on simply that alone, denied my warranty claim. Speaking of warranty.... The car has a 5 year/60k mile warranty on the powertrain. I was 3 months out of the 5 year warranty yet still 20k miles below. Back and forth with Subaru and eventually I get to someone higher up on the chain who says the car needs to be torn down in order for them to truly decide. Im skeptical to authorize the dealership to tear it down as I dont want to get stuck with the bill when Subaru potentially leaves me in the dust after. So the lady (Linda **) was very helpful in the sense she offered to split the cost of the tear down with me granted they deny me any further warranty claim after it was diagnosed. I reluctantly agreed to this based on the fact that I thought for sure they wouldnt just leave me hanging.Well upon tearing it down... the dealership indeed found out that it was a blown engine. Again. Who would have thought that the same faulty engine they replaced the last faulty engine with would have blown again? This car is absolutely notorious for blowing motors AND especially in cylinder 4. Where did mine blow? You guessed it... cylinder 4. Where did it blow the first time when Dave had it? Again... cylinder 4. Subaru comes back with a complete denial of any responsibility and refuse to help with any sort of help with the repairs. To their credit, they still were standing by their word of splitting the cost of the tear down. The labor was 1300 dollars. Leaving me with a 650 bill and them a 650 dollar bill. Now after the 200 dollar tow, the 300 dollar rental car charge, a last minute plane ticket to get me home while it stayed there... Im at my wits end. Next up will be to ship it to North Carolina (900 dollars) and begin the fix myself (another 3,000 or 4,000?). I am not a rich man and simply cannot afford to dump this much money into a car I still owe money on. I bought a Subaru worry free and never in a million years would expect to be going through this at 40,000 miles. Its just plain unacceptable.Anyway, Point of the matter is I am out of warranty technically but then again... Im still WELL within my miles limit. A quick blown motor Subaru Google search will show you that they have countless amounts of cases where their engines blow. It is not uncommon for their cars to blow 2 engines in under 50,000 miles. The fact that this is so common only leads me to believe that there has to be some sort of lawsuit I can look into to forcing them to make this right? I am absolutely blown (no pun intended) away that such a massive companys reputation is only worth 650 dollars to them. I have since accepted that Im going to get stuck with the cost of the repairs and I offered them an easy way to compromise. I asked simply that they pay the full tear down price and offer the OLI (owner loyalty incentive) of 1500 that they originally tried buying my best interests with. Not that I ever plan to use it, Subaru might as well be dead to me as a company... but I still want to them to own up to that.To recap, they offered 650 of the 1300 tear down and the OLI. Im simply asking for them to pony up, attempt to save face of their awful company and make things right in the simplest of ways. 650 dollars more? Come on, Subaru. Really? Does anyone have any similar stories they could share that have or havent ended up in their favor? A company as big as Subaru should be ashamed of this mistreatment. This engine issue has been publicly acknowledged by them through press releases and this is most definitely not an isolated issue. Thanks for reading and I look forward to any replies or comments. My email is ** if you would like to share anything privately that way.

Im a fortunate purchaser, with an excellent vehicle. Im writing to show car ownership can be a cost-effective & worthwhile - on freeways, in city, but I put my miles on elsewhere. I enjoy driving, and testing limits, but do not recommend this to others. 2005 Impreza has 62,000 miles. People still offer to buy it. Most miles are off-road in Nevada, in some of the most unforgiving territory you can imagine. First, I had to learn to trust the car, then install survival gear. Its weakness is road clearance of about five inches. Dirt, dust and sand is ok, and the transition from this, to freeway speeds (85 mph) is most pleasurable! The true-as-an-arrow stance, the wide footprint, low CG, makes it a joy to drive. Interior noise is moderate, so I installed 500 WRMS of tunes. Fortunately, a deer hit 2 years ago didnt affect the ride. Kudos to Salmon, Idaho body shop. Not a penny spent at dealership for parts or repairs but I am meticulous with maintenance due to dust, silt, vibration, heat, cold, survival, and off-road abuse. I have a couple add-ons: K&N filters, a chip, several deep cycle batteries.Impreza has the 2.5 liter engine, very strong in all respects. MPG is mid-upper 20s, depending. Auto transmission responds well to normal conditions, may hesitate during a downshift if youre not familiar with gear ranges. Another complaint: There is no interior light in the hatch area. Groceries, well, you load in the dark. A last, big positive: Snow handling. AWD mean just that. With good tires, typical snowfall is managed very well. Ive never been stuck with M & S tires, in depths up to 2 feet of dry snow. Ive tried to characterize vehicle reliability, performance, and responsiveness in typical conditions. So wow, what a car, just had to share a good, accurate experience with you, with a mid-aged Subaru Impreza!

Paint defects on new 2018 Forester. Took to service dealer, told the paint chips were caused by rocks hitting car. How do rocks hitting a car at different times create the same consistent size chip on ALL paint chips? Plus how come the passenger side shows no paint defects while the driver side is constantly cropping up new rock hits? The hood is showing paint chips is getting ready to lift again, perfect little tiny circles, no dents, just paint gone to the bare metal. I had a 2006 Nissan, NEVER ever saw problems with the paint. When heavy debris hit my Nissan, it dented the car but left the paint intact, had my Nissan for ten years and never ever saw paint chips exposed to the metal.

We own a 3-year old Outback with 37,000 miles on it. Since purchasing the vehicle, we have had to add a quart of oil between each scheduled service (about every 3,000 miles). The dealership tells us that is not abnormal due to the thin grade of oil (which was never mentioned when we were considering purchase of this Outback). It gets worse. In November, without warning, the car lost all power while waiting at a red light on an exit ramp off the interstate. Because we could not get the power back, we were unable to move the vehicle to the shoulder. While waiting for the tow truck, another car smashed into the driver side of the vehicle (hit and run). After months of arguing with Subaru of America, we were told that the accident resulted from the other drivers negligence (rather than because the car was completely dead on the ramp) and, therefore, Subaru was not responsible in any way.The Louisville, Kentucky dealership where we purchased the car finally examined it last week and reported they could find no identifiable problem with the engine. Therefore, the service department concluded there is absolutely no reason to expect this will ever happen again and suggested that we were overreacting because we fear this could occur again, without warning as before, and dont want to drive the vehicle any longer. Not surprisingly, when we asked to meet with the General Manager of the dealership to discuss our concerns, the response was that he was too busy to meet with us (but we could call him). And Subaru has the nerve to boast about its reputation for customer service. You couldnt prove it by our experience. It would be difficult for us to say that Subaru stands behind its product.

January 2017, I decided it was time to upgrade my Subaru. I went to Dick Hannah and found a 2015 Subaru WRX (certified Preowned) still under the factory warranty. Sold. The car was wonderful... for about three weeks. Then it was downhill for the next 6 months. The check engine light came on and was of course taken to Dick Hannahs service department to be repaired. They claimed to have fixed it and a week later, light comes on again. So I go back and forth about 8 times (about 3-4 months, same light same problem) and I finally go to the general manager and see if this is a lemon. Apparently I missed that by about a month. Okay cool. Now what? I am treated poorly by them and there is nothing they can do. I moved on to Gresham Subaru, and at this point I get Subaru of America involved. Gresham claims to fix the car... same light, same problem a week later. Now we are at 9 visits to the shop for the same problem. As if Im not frustrated enough... I cannot get a hold of anyone at Subaru for probably two weeks. Their customer service reps would say okay 24-48 hours and you will get a call from a supervisor. Never happens and I continue to call and wonder what is going on. So it doesnt qualify for a lemon OR a buy back - no explanation, just no it doesnt qualify - Im wanting a collateral exchange at this point... 7 months later, 10 visits for the same check engine light issue, the techs are literally scratching their head at my car. And everyone at Subaru of America is beating around the bush. Wont answer my calls, keeps saying that they wont know anything until their engineers take a look at my car, they keep ordering and replacing and testing parts and I feel like I am a victim of a scam. This is the most awful experience and Subaru is showing their true colors and do NOT stand behind their vehicles when there is a problem. Clearly the 1 and half stars by everyone else explains enough. I HAD to rate this as one star but it doesnt even deserve that.

First of all, I love my Subaru Crosstrek. Since it is an all terrain vehicle I was surprised to hear the vibrating and rattling in the unit. Subaru replaced the unit once, but unfortunately the rattling noise came back. Wondering if anything else can be done with the unit to stop the noise. It even rattles on the open highways. Please let me know.

We purchased a Subaru Outback new in 2013, after many oil changes our car started using a quart of oil in between every oil change. Subaru says, it is normalto use a quart of oil in between oil changes. As time goes on, we have had it in numerous times and they cannot figure out why its using oil. Subaru has known that there is a problem and they offered an extended warranty for this issue. Again, I️ keep working with the dealership and they now say, we need a short block. Interesting that now we am completely out of warranty. They are willing to give me 1,000 toward fixing the issue. The completed bill will come to $4,400. I will admit the car gets around beautiful in bad weather but that is the only happiness we have seen in this car so far. We were hoping to get 250,000 miles on this car but at this point we will have to get a new one soon. Just a fair warning, read all reports before you buy a Subaru!

Complaint and concern for our 2014 Subaru - We are having problems with oil usage, and have had the car towed and had to call roadside twice. The oil light comes on and there is very little oil. We have taken it in and discussed this with the Courtesy Motors in Chico where we bought the car. They say this is a normal thing with Outbacks. What do you say about this? We are tracking the oil ourselves and it is using oil. We cant afford to be on the road with a problem. Please advice. Thank you.

I stupidly believed the marketing and didnt do my research. This is an unsafe vehicle. The head unit says 60 miles left. Drops to 40. Then runs out of gas. Never let this car get to a quarter tank. Ran out of gas at midnight coming home from work. I had to leave my car in the middle of road. And bonus! Had to deal with a creepy dude harassing me! Fun. Luckily a nice couple scared him off. Subaru finally recalled this car for this specific issue. They need to replace the head units but wont do that. We had this gas issue fixed before the recall. Be aware. It took two weeks and was messed up. Xmode stopped working which we didnt find out until we needed it on a gravel road in the mountains. Also the software didnt match the features of the car. It is a messed up situation and I feel like an idiot buying this expensive car. I will never buy another and never recommend this car to anyone. The marketing is great. The car is not.

It was a broken #4 piston ringland at 1,987 miles. The warranty was initially denied but after much fighting, was reimbursed for engine replacement as a goodwill gesture because Id bought 6 new Subarus in 4 years. At just over 9000 miles (or 7000 on the new engine), #4 piston ringland broke. I drove it to the dealership running poorly but was staying on top of the oil situation as the first motor had chugged its oil. Months later, I had to have the car finally flat-bedded home and it looked like itd been driven within an inch of its life before having the engine dismantled, then all the parts careless thrown into the car, destroying things like my radiator and intercooler and even the seats. Many fasteners were missing because theyd been simply left under the hood. The oil pan and oil filter was smashed as if engine had been dropped from a decent height.I fought with them over it for nearly a year as the car sat engineless in my garage, then finally filed suit when I was able to get the dealership to give me copies of the work orders, which were nothing short of blatant lies.I have filed suit and rather than step up and explain to a judge and jury how theyre not at fault for the second ruined engine (and Im far from the only person whos had this failure), theyre just delaying things by challenging venue, then getting a continuance on their venue challenge. The 08 STi (and reportedly other years, but the failure numbers are staggeringly high for the 08) is very simply a product Subaru is selling knowing full well it doesnt meet merchantability requirements and theyre just getting by as cheaply as they can until the warranties expire on them. I was a loyal customer, buying a new one every year until the 08 destroyed itself after only 2 months of ownership then again before itd reached 2 years. To say Subaru and especially Subaru of America is unscrupulous is a whopper of an understatement. And, sadly, its also not an understatement to say that the 08 completely changed my life, for the worse. It brought an abrupt end to a hobby (driving school instructor) that was the catharsis that enabled me to be the successful president of a rapidly-growing dotcom. When you are so egregiously victimized and disrespected by a company, the effects are far-reaching. Please, do not buy any 08-11 STi as their failure rate as a percentage of units sold is astronomical. But aside from a few of us squeaky wheels (and I may get crushed further in seeking justice, but I have to try), theyll be able to simply sweep this horrific ripping off of their customers under the rug because of it being such a comparatively low-production car, it likely wont have the absolute failure *quantities* to get the attention of any agency who can force them to do right by their customers.

Have had a 2010 Subaru outback for 3.5 years. Have done all required maintenance at subaru dealers. Had a gold plus” warranty for 1st 70k, sunroof stopped working at 71k, no love from Subaru. 1800 quoted for complete replacement of unit. 133k, took it to dealer for high pitch whine in front right. 2 hours later was informed that the cvt trans was failing and needed replacement, dealer quoted 7300 for a rebuilt from subaru or a used trans (salvage) for 3300. Warning: if you have a little old person driving a subaru with over 110k you might want to tell them that 7300 is not a good investment in a car with only 113k. These cars are supposedly supposed to last 250k or more (if you can afford these types of repairs) obviously I should have known that going in but I thought the new 2010-14 subies had all these great improvements. I have never towed anything and driven this outback anything other than gently, too bad loved the driving part, great on snow but can’t afford these types of repairs. Pleaded my case with North America Subaru, they would knock the 7300 down to 4200 at a subaru dealer. So that means the little old person would have been probably paid 7300 and I can see that happening. Short story is a tranny shop is going to put a used one in for 2500 parts and labor (friend of a friend). Maybe I just am not used to modern cars since my family has a camry with 198k and I had a tundra with 178k, 12 and 14 years old with no major mechanical repairs. Soon to be Subaru-free in the Midwest.

I own a 2008 Subaru Legacy, best car Ive ever owned for this area of the country. Due to very cold and heavily snowed New York (Catskill Mtn region), you tend to notice your windows being frosted over for a while to defrost during winters. I never thought twice that build up on the inside of my windows was anything other than caused from the extreme cold temperatures here in NY, and as a new car you just sometimes dont take notice to those things. As the years pass, MOST cars get dings, and dents, and repairs... but recently because it’s not a place that you would just take notice to UNLESS you are someone who hand washes and waxes your car on a daily basis (in my opinion), I noticed severe (massive) paint bubbling across the whole top (metal paint area) above my windshield from one side to the other. Now, I would never had noticed this if it had not been from the obvious ROCK CHIPS which have hit the bubbling, and yes made this paint bubbling break open and look like it’s caused due to rock chips. The surface is not a layering rust to where it is corrosion rust that would break away if tapped on. It’s more like a start to corrosion rust that has not started the eat through process. Upon closer inspection it looks to me to be from POOR windshield seal and thus NOW knowing the reason for such poor build up during the winter on the inside of my windows. Well I guess the rock chips are completely different way up at the top of your roof than on like say your hood or around your grill area... HAHA, what a joke. I take very good care of my car. I’m asking for a proper inspection and a paint job after a corrosion protection - not like Subaru can’t afford it. This MAY just keep me from ever buying a Subaru again. The dealership had the audacity to tell me to trade it in and let it be someone else’s problem. NICE.

On my 3rd Subaru lease. I won’t go into details with their previous Mirror Link issues (lots of them). This review is regarding their Starlink Service. Big shout out to Maria at the Danvers location who was awesome while I waited FOR SIX HOURS AT THE DEALER DUE TO SOMEONE’S MISTAKE. We got through that. I’ll spare the details.Purchased the Starlink Service. Took the time to set it up, registering, etc. Worked fine. Then out of the blue without warning, the services stopped. My car profile was wiped from the MySubaru app as well as the service. Someone made an error and must have confused it with the previous lease. Well after literally about a dozen calls and false promises, no one could figure out how to fix the issue. I called Subaru (not the dealer) and they couldn’t figure it out either. After more escalation, wasted time and apologies that do nothing, a supervisor got my credentials back into the MySubaru app and reinstated the Starlink services. All looked good until I went to start the car remotely, ERROR—you must have a subscription. Yet the app says I have a subscription.Place another call to Starlink, they have no clue as to what is wrong. Pissed off is an understatement. If you want to deal with people that are clueless, cant figure out issues and make random mistakes, Subaru is your go to. I am literally too busy with a job, business and two little kids to be dealing with foolish errors and incompetent BS.Also, please don’t leave me a regurgitated message saying you are sorry and to call you. You don’t answer the phone, I already tried that. Fix the issue is all you have to do. My sorry jar is already filled up with apologies that are useless. Lastly, no---you don’t understand. If you did, the issue would have never happened. Should you waste my time to have to go to the dealer—a major inconvenience—I will not sit there for hours while you figure out the issue. My time is extremely valuable and I hate wasting it.

As many other reviews I read and contained in this page, a 2007 Subaru Outback did not give any warnings, did not overheat, just all of a sudden a clunk sound, and it had to be towed away to the mechanic who says that it needs a new engine. After reading all the other reviews, it has help me to make the choice of giving it up and cut my losses now. I have to say that purchasing this vehicle brand new was a very poor investment. I thought I was going to be able to have it for many more years, not just 7 years. It is too bad Subaru doesnt take any responsibility for its faulty mechanism. My son bought a 2016 Subaru WRX STI from a Ford dealer. He had problems with it right after buying it. Fast forward to a year later and it needs a new transmission. The warranty that was sold with the car was actually void because the person who traded it to Ford had put aftermarket parts on it and a tune. We contacted Subaru about the problem and they are going to honor the warranty and pay for the repairs. I am happy to say that Subaru is a great company. There are not many companies that stand behind their products these days. Thank You Subaru!

On a random check of Subaru recalls I discovered the Takata Airbag recall for my 2010 Forester. I was not notified by Subaru until much later. After hearing nothing further from Subaru I called both SOA and the local dealership. They were either clueless or not interested, but in any case they knew nothing and told me Id hear from them at the first of the month. Two firsts of the month have come and gone and no word. All I have is their advice is to not let anyone ride in the passenger seat... Today I see that another recall has been issued for the Forester for a Turbocharger problem, but that info was provided by NHSTA, not SOA. The Forester has been an OK vehicle, but not great as far as cost to own is concerned. This Forester is my sixth Subaru. It will be my last.

I had an Outback in 1997 and loved it... wish I had kept it. I recently bought a very well cared for single owner 2005 Outback 2.5i with 150K miles. I knew it had a minor oil leak... When it got worse, I fixed that, and while the engine was apart, put in many new parts including timing belt, hoses, thermostat, mounting bolts, machined the cylinders, etc. It was fine for 6 months and then had intermittent sputtering at idle and when starting to drive, along with after a slowdown off the highway to 35 or so and then speeding up again. I also noticed it was strangely low on oil, despite no visible leaking. My mechanic said that the prior owner did a (dealer-done) tune up without replacing the wires, so we did that and the problem seemed fine... for a while. 2 months later, same exact sputtering. One stall after starting the car and putting it in reverse but not driving yet. And... almost no oil in the car (again no visible leaks). Problem as yet undiagnosed so any feedback is appreciated! Also, minor complaints. Had to change the rear door latch when I got the car. The plastic latch that opens the gas cap keeps falling off. And now the drivers window button is sticky and sometimes doesnt want to make the window go up or down.

Our 2014 Subaru Outback (purchased new) has an intermittent stall problem that lasts for several seconds at low speeds when trying to accelerate into traffic. It has caused 2 near collisions and my wife will no longer ride in the car because of it. This issue has been discussed with the dealer several times and were told by the Service Manager that it is a common complaint and an engineering defect in the CVT transmission and that his 2013 Legacy has the same problem. The factory Zone rep. drove the car briefly and said it drove normal and that they were not going to work on it but would give us an allowance on a 2015 model. This car drives normal 99.9% of the time because this only happens in slow in town driving of which we do very little but when it fails it could be catastrophic. We are in our seventies and purchased this car new because it has all the hi-tech safety devices on it such as Eyesight collision avoidance but this is of no use if we are t-boned in heavy traffic. Since when is an engineering defect in a drive train normal?! We left the car with instructions that they could drive it home or wherever until such time that the problem occurred (and gave them a list of the perimeters that seemed to cause the problem to manifest itself) then they should fix it under the new car warranty but they told us that it was just going to sit there until we pick it up as they are not going to do anything with it. We also asked if they would buy it back if they are refusing to repair it and they of course declined that also. This indicates to us that they dont want it either. We will probably be forced to dump it at a big loss. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

I bought a brand new 2009 Subaru Forester with a 5-speed manual transmission. From day 1, I had problems getting into reverse. It got so bad, that at times, I could not even get into reverse. Complained many times to the dealer and their response was it was normal, nothing was wrong with the car or that it had to be broken in or it was me. I finally brought it into the dealer and they told me, that they would have to take apart the transmission and Subaru will inspect it. If they deem it to be customer abuse then I would have to pay $4000.00 to fix it. Of course I opted not to do it. But to make matters worse, the engine had no pick up. I had to floor it and it still would not go. What a lemon! I would never buy a Subaru again.

My wife told me our 2010 Outback was making strange noise coming from the engine and took it on a road trip to visit her mom and called to tell me that it got terrible gas mpg and that there were lights on the dash flashing--brake, cruise, and traction control lights. The code that was brought up was P0026 which is for a valve stuck. I took it to Puyallup Subaru, and they told me its because of low oil and that brand-new Subarus use a quart of oil every thousand miles. I check the oil before my wife left on her trip, and the oil level was fine. They cleared the computer, change the oil, and sent me down the road. Has late night purchase, gave finance manager $15000 cashiers check us and additional $2000 cash to get my monthly payment down below $400/month. After reviewing my paperwork couple days after, realize they added $1000 to my agreed purchase price. Before confronting Jay, salesperson, about this problem I went through my car details including the price he gave me. Two separate times he agreed with the price he had given me by phone on more than 3 occasions before I committed to purchase. This price was the original price Jay told me at the beginning. After he reconfirmed his and my price two additional times, I told him that I had given extra cash during financing and told him exactly $1000 added to my initial price. He hesitated, then said it was the changed figure. It was obvious he was covering for finance and Moe sales manager. So I gave Jay and Moe a week to come up with solution... Long story short they didnt. So contacted GM, Jobe **. He said he would find out info and get back to me... He didnt. Finally got him on phone week later and he told me he had talked to owners and he has good and favorable news for me, put me on hold so he could get my paperwork. After holding for short while, unidentified person came on phone asking if the could help me..(?) I told them I was holding for Jobe. That he had asked me to hold awaiting answer for my situation. Person, Moe, sales manager, said Jobe was in a meeting. That he wanted to know how he could help me(?) Not wanting to rehash again with someone who had previously refused to do anything for over 10 days after knowing of problem. Since then... I contacted Subaru of America for help communicating with Glendale Subaru, Jobe, GM because he refused on 3 separate occasions to take my phone call. Plus I called Lane ** general sales manager. He didnt return my call. I asked Moe, by email twice to relay the owners and GMs solution, but he and GM refused to return my call. Now he told corporate Customer service agent trying help me get info that the GM and Owners had decided. Its become obvious the GM put this $1000 cash fraud back on Moe... Because Moe, Glendale sales manager, refuses to relay this message. Seems likely he is directly involved in this late night fraudulent buying transaction. I would advise ANYONE looking to purchase a Subaru... I 1000% would never do business with Glendale Subaru!! They protect and cover for each other with dishonest transaction. From GM by washing his hands of the situation by not getting involved and leaving it up to his dishonest sales and finance department to get out of this situation alone. In my opinion, Jobe lacks a backbone because he refuses to talk to dissatisfied customers. Yet he blows smoke up peoples rear, by saying he and his dealership are honest and he wants to make thing right and wants to make sure THEIR customers are happy. The GM and THEIR sales staff at Glendale in my opinion are ripping off THEIR owners $$... Very very unhappy Glendale Subaru and Corporate Customers service for allowing this GM to say he is happy with his dealerships customer outreach (ha ha) towards me. Dismissing all my attempts to get him on phone and to complete telling me his owners good and favorable decision. Absolute appalling customer care and outreach. What a rotten egg dealership. Makes me wonder how much $$$ they have defrauded other customers. Ive consulted other car dealers, GMs and previous Subaru Dealership owners. They know exactly what happened. They told me its obvious the GM, Jobe, knows too. He doesnt want to write a check so he just told culprits, his finance and sales to handle the situation they created. BOTTOM LINE. This lack of customer care and outreach to take care of this issue. Receives 1 on scale of 10 for honesty and true care for all customers. I know now I was foolish to give Glendale Subaru any cash. Especially at last transaction of work night. That further explain why the finance manager stuck the cash $ in his pocket... Thought that was highly unusual.

Its time for me to trade up. I am no longer willing to pay the ridiculous prices that you ask for spare parts which are not even guaranteed. Goodbye Subaru!!!! My remote on my Subaru Outback 3.6R goes off in my pocket while I walk, lay around, bend over or just hang out while at my house. The back gate opens automatically most of the time without my awareness. Completely breaks my confidence in the security of my car. Sometimes opens up 2-3 times on a bad day. Cant say how disheartening it is to come out from a friends place in a bad neighborhood and see my car hatch opened and my car unguarded. This potentially has left my car unguarded as long as Ive been at a place. Subaru should re-design the key fob and issue a new one under a recall! The back gate on a person’s car cant just open every other day when youre not looking or thinking of your car! My cargo is always important and should never be a 50/50 worry that my hatch opened as I walk away. The car is great in every other way than this. But with that said I brought it to Subaru attention and they just told me that there is nothing they can do to deactivate that part of the car fob.

Our 2010 Outback failed on a road trip in a cloud of smoke a few days and less than 1,000 miles after an oil change and 23-pt. inspection at the selling dealership. Were told the engine block would need replacement -- $5,200 -- and a $1,300 tear down to see what other engine parts would need replacement. With few options, in another city, we traded the remains on a 14 Forester. The Outback used immense quantities of oil; we began changing every 1,500-2000 miles and always carried oil because the light went on frequently. Dealers that checked said no biggie. Three times we had episodes where the idiot lights all went on, the Outback shuddered, had no power, etc. Bad plugs (after a dealer change) and perhaps briefly using hi-test gas were blamed. I think NHTSA needs to look at engine reliability.

I should have gone for a Hyundai, at least it wont give that issue at 5000 km. Not complaining about the dealership, they have been helpful but complaining about the car.

Purchased new, great vehicle for engine and drivetrain. The execution of function and maintenance of the interior and exterior is a poor effort. The front end is a bug catcher. The interior could have been better appointed with holders and storage. The gas pedal position is horrible and extremely uncomfortable, with no remedy from your company. The paint and body is a joke. Dont spit too hard on it!!! Too bad you came up short. A pickup with this drivetrain with practical appointments with form and function... At least you have room to improve. Feel a bit cheated...

I bought a brand new Subaru Outback 25i limited in 2011. Ive had regular oil changes and followed the maintenance schedule religiously. I had 55,000 miles on the car. I wasnt super pleased with the interior because I have dogs and though Subaru claims to be dog friendly, their thin plastic fabric below the windows rips very.... Ok.. I thought kind of cheap but I put up with it... Then, three weeks ago, my check engine light went on.... I called the dealer who told me not to panic, that it was probably nothing but to get it in. I got it in the next day (the light had gone off by then but I brought it in anyway). Turns out there was no oil in the engine and the brakes had rusted. They told me I neglected the cars maintenance. My neighbor has the identical car and the exact same thing happened to her but hers was still under warranty. They rebuilt her engine. They claimed mine was neglect. They would not help me. I dumped the car. Took a major hit because of the issues but I no longer trusted it. Ill never buy another Subaru or recommend them to others.

I purchased a 2013 Subaru Outback with VST. One thing I noticed right away was that when I backed out of my driveway onto the road, when I put it into Drive, there was about a 3-second hesitation. Same happens when I go from Drive into Reverse. I complained about it a couple of times and they told me at Subaru that it was normal. They told me that several people have complained about it. I really like the car, but now there is the oil usage problem. It is happening to me, too.

The Subaru flagship has terrible engine alert system. Apparently, when there is an engine problem instead of just a check engine light, all feature lights go on and the extra safety features, eyesight etc. become disabled! Subaru service says that the car does this so youll bring the car in to be serviced and that most cars do this. I have never had this experience. Why disable any safety features! We are dealing with the all lights on, no safety features, for the second time. When I inquired about our lost garage opener left in their loaner car, that loaner was out more than two weeks because they couldnt figure out what was wrong with the owners car. I thought I was buying a good car for my son and now Im really starting to wonder.

In the first six months I owned my Outback (purchased new) my infotainment system failed and had to be replaced -- it took six weeks for the replacement to come in! I was without navigation, radio, Apple Car Play and rear back up camera. Six months after that and while on vacation, the Eye Sight system has failed leaving me without adaptive (or any kind of) cruise control, lane departure warning/correction, front crash warning and a few other Eye Sight features for which I paid a handsome price. This is far from the experience I expected from Subaru. I was confident in my decision to purchase this vehicle and I have to be honest - I have buyers remorse. I have to take the car into the dealership when I return home so I do not currently know what precisely the issue is with the Eye Sight system.

I had a 2003 Subaru Forester. Like so many people, I purchased it based upon its reputation. Car ran fine for many years. At 129,000 miles the head gasket went. This cost several thousand dollars to repair. If you google Subaru Head Gasket Problems you will find many people with the same problem. Subaru claims to have fixed the problem in 2007. At 170,000 the car started leaking oil. At 184,000 miles car developed another oil leak from the engine. The cost of repairs for the leaks was in the thousands. I finally decided to trade in the car for another brand. Some things that you may not know about Subaru: Subaru has a reputation for leaking oil. There are 2 class action suits against Subaru because the newer Subarus burn oil. Subaru claims that it is normal for a car to burn a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Google Subaru Class Action Suit. Many of my friends that talked me into buying a Subaru have also abounded the brand for having similar problems. We have discovered that Subaru oil problems are difficult to fix whether you bring the car to the dealer or an independent mechanic. One other quirky item I learned when being a Subaru owner - tires must be replaced in sets of 4. I had good tires with 20,000 miles on them. One got ruined by a nail. I ended up having to buy 4 new tires otherwise I would have run the risk of damaging the car.

After 21,000 miles my vehicle has had to have the engine replaced along with other major parts. Initially, when I received my vehicle back, it had to be returned the same day. Its because the mechanics at Garcia Subaru of El Paso failed to lock the major coolant hose. It caused my car with a new engine to run hot and coolant to spill all over the new engine. When I received my vehicle back the 2nd time, the turbo was not working and the performance of my car was less than it was, prior to this major repair.

When I bought my 2015 Subaru Forester, I had my doubts. I even told the salesman that when I lived in Bermuda, Subaru had the nickname Subarust. He said hed never heard that one. I figured that maybe it was the sea air and that in Canada, everything would be okay. After all, I loved the look of the car and the way it handled. However, soon after I purchased it, I noticed that my Subaru was surging when I was breaking from time to time. It didnt happen (of course) when I took the service attendant out for a drive at my last visit, but it does happen. Very disturbing. Whats even WORSE is the RUST that started 18 months after I bought the vehicle. The morning I was supposed to bring in my car for service I was going to clean it, then bring it in. Aside from writing, I walk dogs (much like in the numerous Subaru commercial, implying that the cars are for active lifestyles and dog lovers and the car gets pretty dirty sometimes. Unfortunately, that morning I discovered that my battery was dead and had to call roadside assistance (ironically) on the day of my service appointment. I spent a lot of time on the phone with these people, and when the guy boosted my battery, I drove it up to the dealership without having the time to clean the car. The service attendant was disappointed, as this would probably show that my battery was fine, rather than being able to test if it was faulty. Luckily, it still failed, so they replaced it. I showed the attendant where rust spots had started to form on the inside of the hatch. She took pictures and sent them off to Subaru Canada. No one contacted me. I called and got no answers, but plenty of people saying they would get back to me. It took 8 phone calls before the service manager at Barrie Subaru told me that the company felt it was not a manufacturers defect, but rather dirt that caused the rust, and that they were happy to pay for half of the repair. Reminder, this is 18 months after the purchase of the vehicle. There was also no way to talk to the person who had made this decision but I did call customer care and gave the lady there an earful, without purpose, really, as I asked if the call was recorded or if she wrote anything down. The answer to both was no. So here are a few things I want to point out:1- Of course, they are happy to pay for half. They should be paying for the whole thing. A friend of mine had the same problem with her Toyota truck. They said the rust was caused by sand. However, the clear coat was intact. 2- What would they have blamed the rust on if I had had the chance to clean my car that morning? 3- I didnt have the chance to clean my car because of Subarus faulty battery. 4- The car still surges forward when Im stopping. 5- This is a crooked company that does not care about their customers. If you disagree, try reaching a human being who has any authority to make a decision. 6- What kind of sport utility vehicle cant handle getting dirty without immediately getting rusty? Again, see their commercial. They should definitely NOT be marketing to dog owners. Please, dont trust the car awards. This is not a reliable car or a consumer-friendly company. They want you to buy, then wash their hands of you.

I went from a 2007 Jeep Compass. Not the best car - but what I found was that the Compass was miles ahead technology wise - from the 2012 Subaru Outback. Every time I get in the Outback, I curse that dashboard, air conditioning panel and radio. Why must lights and windshield washers be so complicated? Ive about wrecked trying to adjust the AC - because that panel requires your full attention to make a change. If I have a low tire - the Jeep told me the pressure of all tires and which tire was low - the Subaru - tells me, You have a low tire - go find it! Who puts the gas tank on the passenger side - Subaru. Next winter Ill be outside freezing while pumping gas. Plus - why do I have to unlock the cap inside the car before I can get gas. The locks are a major malfunction too... They dont lock automatically when the car is moving, if the car is locked - I manually lock them since it wont lock automatically - I cant just open the door. Nope its locked! The Jeep radio simple - I had 5 buttons for programming radio channels I could put 3 channels on each button - I just pressed the button again. I had Satellite on the Jeep too. With the Subaru - you have to take your eyes off the road again - press FM button till you get FM 1, 2 or 3 then you can select your button. I love the gas mileage, the low profile, the roominess of the Subaru Outback. I HATE the dashboard, lights, wipers, the AC and the radio. Why must everything be so complicated!!! My 2007 was far superior electronically to this!

I purchased a 2009 Outback 2.5XT manual transmission new. For the first 60,000 miles it was flawless. Shortly after the 60,000 mile service, the check engine light came on and the dealer said the rings in the #4 cylinder were stuck. The engine was removed and repaired. Approximately 3000 miles later the incident repeated itself. Once again the engine was removed and this time all of the rings were replaced (at my suggestion) and the valves ground. Shortly after that one of the air tube valves failed. Then a few thousand miles later both the NOX and oxygen sensors failed. Then at 73,000 miles the engine started knocking but no check engine light. At the bottom of the pan directly under the oil pump intake there is a large dent but no scratches or any sign of impact. The dealer says that the restricted oil flow resulting from the dent caused the connecting rod bearings to fail. I am a 78 year old engineering executive in Southern California. 90% of my driving is on the freeway, no off road, no dirt roads. I cannot believe a modern car can have these kinds of problems. This is my first experience with Subaru. Subaru paid for the first 2 overhauls but I have paid for the other repairs and am expected to pay for a new short block replacement.

I was sold on Subaru after spending time in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana and seeing so many Subarus on the road. I traded my LR3 for the Crosstrek. Small, simple, sporty little car. I had been drawn in to the commercials selling love and tradition and warm and fuzzy emotions. I was told at purchase that the powertrain/drivetrain was lifetime. Besides the incredibly loud road noise and lightweight size of the vehicle it got great gas mileage. It was easy to zip around town and fit in any parking space. The look was sporty and cute. At 58000 miles both rear wheels had bearings go out, the alternator had to be replaced, the battery had to be replaced and I had just put new set of nice tires on it. Contacting dealer I purchased from I was told all under warranty except for battery. Upon taking to Subaru, told nothing under warranty. When purchased I was told this car would hold its value like a Jeep. I traded it yesterday and I owed 18577 on payoff and multiple dealers valued at 11,000. This was the most costly vehicle I ever owned and the most stressful. You do not want to drive near large pickup trucks or 18 wheelers. I was suckered in like a Hallmark card on a cold winter day.

Ive owned 5 Subarus including 2 Foresters. Three of my Subarus had 105,000; 121,000; and 167,000 miles respectively. Absolutely no problems. Youd think I could expect more than 90,000 miles on my 2009 Forester. No such luck. It experienced not just an engine failure, but a catastrophic engine failure. It was a total engine disintegration - crank, rods, cam journal, etc. All this with Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Subaru oil filters every 4,500-6,000 miles.Repair estimate is $6,200. Attaway Subaru. Well see what assistance Subaru corporate will offer. Other Asian manufacturers, GM and Chrysler, offer 5-year/100,000-mile warranty. I guess Subaru is so proud of its products it only offers a 60,000-mile drive train warranty. Also, the interior finish on the doors and dash is wearing off. Both fog lamp lenses cracked within a month and the auto dimming mirror failed outside of the warranty. I get parts at cost and its still $147. More to come with Subaru.

Only after a non-Subaru mechanic installed a non-Subaru clutch when the 5th one failed 20K miles on the odometer has the clutch on my car been reliable. Dont Buy Subaru! I bought one, now I wish I hadnt. It wasnt until after the purchase that I realized that it was consuming oil. One day, a light came on the dash, which I learned was an Oil Level light, an Oil Level light! I checked the level and refilled the oil to the full mark, 2 1/2 quarts. I took it back to the dealer and what they had told me was that It was perfectly normal for a Subaru Outback to lose a quart every 1000 miles! This was not mentioned during the sales pitch or during the purchase; however if they had, I would not have bought the car! They recommended doing the Oil Consumption test, where you drive 1200 miles and return to the dealer four times. Yeah, a couple times it only took a half quart and it did take a quart. Well at the first attempt, my oil light came on while driving through the valley, so I had to add oil and that nullified the test and we had to start over again. Again they said that was normal and they wouldnt tell me why or how. I called Subaru of America and went back and forth with their customer service rep and she ended up hanging up on me. She did point to the owners manual, chapter/page where it did say to expect oil loss, as much as a quart every 1000 miles. Who reads a manual before a purchase? In my opinion, Subaru lied to me by means of omission. So any of you out there thinking of buying Subaru, dont do it. Ill be getting rid of this one soon and will never go Subaru again.

We bought a brand new 2004 Subaru Legacy back in December of 2003. It was running fine until 2008 when the catalytic converters gave up and had to be replaced by the dealership (free of charge then since they say it was still covered under warranty). The new cats were working fine until around June of 2011; then, it gave out again. This time it was not covered by warranty, so we bought aftermarket cats which work for 6 months. Right now, April 2012, the auto parts store is in the process of replacing the cats. Its has been a miserable and stressful situation since the cats can fail the car for emission test. Come on now, how many times do we have to change a catalytic converter for a car in its lifetime considering that it’s only an 8 1/2 year old car? We drove Toyotas, Nissans and other car brands before and never had to experience these problems. There must be something wrong in this picture and we need an answer from Subaru. Or maybe there are other people out there who are having the same issues with their Subarus as well. We would appreciate if these issues are addressed since we already spent so much time, effort and money for such dilemma.

We finally decided on a new car after buying used for well over 20 years. Finally narrowed it down to a Subaru based on customer satisfaction. Well let me tell you this customer is FAR from satisfied. Started at 14000 miles, when the dealer tells us the tires are down to the warning tread and need to be replaced. REALLY? Mind you all services had been performed at the dealer. So the dealer went to bat for me and got Subaru to replace all 4 tires no charge. Ok cool. So here we are 15000 miles later and guess what? Yep the tires are shot again, this time they check alignment and frame etc. nothing wrong. This time I have to call Subaru customer care. They balk, I argue, they finally agree to replace 3 of the 4 tires. I have to pay for the 4th one. So in 1 year and 30000 miles this Outback is on its 3rd set of tires!!They still cannot tell me why the tires are wearing out every 15000 miles. Tried to blame driving habits. Sorry, but if it was that then my other vehicles would be chewing up tires too! (They are not.) I cannot afford $800+ worth of tires every 6 months!! As soon as I can I will be trading in this hunk of junk for a Ford or Toyota. Never buying a Subaru again!

I bought a 2011 Forester and was generally happy with the car although it consumed a lot of oil. I then bought another Forester, a 2014 which also consumed a quart of oil every 700 miles. First the catalytic converter went at 35000 miles, then the engine imploded at 75000 miles. Then I thought I was saved by the country wide oil consumption lawsuit against Subaru. Nope, not only was I denied the extended coverage to 100,000 miles, but I was told it was not due to oil consumption and consequently not reimbursed for an engine that died prematurely due to excessive oil consumption. Cute commercials, supposedly a green forward thinking company, dont believe it. Subaru produced thousands of faulty pistons and kept using them until they were caught. Subaru of Americas response was flat out denial. I will never buy another Subaru product and I encourage you to do the same. A company that doesnt stand behind their product and presents a fake posture of caring should not be dealt with.

I bought an Outback 2017 model on July 2016 and decided to spend more for the convenience of having the ability to set interior temperature of the car before I go in by having the remote start option. The car manual stated that if you set the A/C or heater setting the way you like it before turning the engine off, you should be able to have the same setting when you turn the engine on using the remote start. My car did not do that. I brought the car to the Subaru of Glendale, California on January 20, 2017 and the service advisor told me that it only works for the 2016 and not the 2017 model. When I told him that it did not make sense that a newer model would be less capable than an older one and that the feature is clearly stated in the 2017 manual, he promised to call me on Monday or Tuesday of the next week because that day was a Saturday and he cant get a response from Subaru of America. So I waited and no call came. Today (Wednesday 1/25/17), I gave them a call and was told that the advisor was busy and that he will give me a call. After a while I called again and was told the advisor was off-duty! I called the service supervisor and she said she would connect me with another advisor to help me. I was put in hold and after a few minutes, the line was cut!!! I called again and again, I was promised that somebody would call me back and as I am writing this, no calls! There are no common sense option packages. Either the WRX comes with too few options or none. Big difference in lease rates from dealer to dealer. San Francisco Bay Area dealers are very inflexible but they talk a good game. I had one local dealer tell me they had the car then I went in and it did not have the one elusive option thats on the website: The Harman Kardon system. I had the Burlingame dealer hang up on me when I did not agree to purchase one in stock. He said “You need to order it” then quickly hung up before I said a thing. 2014 Subaru Crosstrek - What a cool looking little SUV crossover. Loved it for the first 3 months. Then the steering wheel started locking up on its own, both when the car is on and when it is off which results in the ignition locking up. I have taken it back to the dealership - Earl Tindol Ford Subaru - twice. They have done nothing to fix it. They burned up 1/2 tank of gas and put 100 miles on it and told me it was pretty much my fault. I finally went to the dealership yesterday and demanded my vehicle back and drove up on a salesman/service man and some blonde chick pulling into the parking lot at the same time and getting out of MY Subaru. I left it there for repairs - not as a vehicle for Earl Tindol Fords employees to use as their own personal vehicles. I left a message for the dealership owner, but got no response. EPIC FAIL! Would we purchase another Subaru Crosstrek? Would we purchase any Subaru ve
Would we purchase another Subaru Crosstrek? Would we purchase any Subaru vehicle again? No! Our 2013 Subaru Crosstrek XV has been a disappointment in several areas. First, the fuel mileage is nowhere near the manufacturers claims. Subaru base their highway fuel mileage estimates on 55 MPH. So if you are on flat ground, doing 55 MPH, with no headwind, then you might get the 33 to 34 MPG that they claim. But, if you are like me and drive at the posted Interstate speed of 65 to 70 MPH (or drive about 5 MPH above the posted speed limit) then your actual highway mileage will be in the 27 to 28 MPG range. Now if you add in hills or mountains, your fuel mileage will drop to 24 to 26 MPG.The worst highway mileage we experienced was out in Kansas on Interstate 70. While driving 80 MPH into a headwind, our actual fuel mileage was 18 MPG. The rolling hills of Kansas, combined with actual highway speed and headwind, will ruin any claim of good fuel mileage. There is no way that the Subaru Crosstrek will get the claimed fuel mileage in actual real life driving conditions! Any type of sand or small rock will damage the vehicles paint. When compared to our 2008 Honda Civic, the 2013 Subaru has a horrible paint job that will not last. The interior of the vehicle is cheap and wont last. The plastic is cheap and very light duty. The vehicle has a rattle that has never been found. The fabric on the seats frays easily and is also cheap. While vacuuming the carpet, I found a tear. Our Honda Civic has a higher quality interior - and that isnt saying much! Our Crosstrek began using oil and the consumption was so high that Subaru did a Short Block replacement. In other words, we had to have a new engine put in before our vehicle had 35 thousand miles. The Boxer engine is very poorly designed and despite so-called improvements, will not give you good fuel mileage (see above). For example, before you purchase a Subaru, you better walk out to the service department and look at how much the dealership will charge you to replace four spark plugs that cost $25 at the most. In fact, you might want to look at how much they will charge for recommended maintenance schedules. You will discover that owning a Subaru is very expensive. You are paying a premium price for a mediocre vehicle that is below average in quality. If you want a quality vehicle, then dont buy a Subaru!
