Scion is a discontinued marque of Toyota that debuted in 2003. Intended to appeal to younger customers, the Scion brand emphasized inexpensive, stylish, and distinctive sport compact vehicles, and used a simplified "pure price" sales concept that eschewed traditional trim levels and dealer haggling; each vehicle was offered in a single trim with a non-negotiable base price, while a range of dealer-installed options was offered to buyers for personalizing their vehicles. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or heir, refers both to the brand's cars and their owners. In an effort to target the generation Y demographic, Scion primarily relied on guerrilla and viral marketing techniques.

The iM is versatile, affordable, and hardly a down-market consolation prize thanks to a slew of features and accessories. A 137-hp 1.8-liter four pairs with either a six-speed manual or a CVT, so the sporty looks are just for show. The iM focuses more on ease of ownership and fuel economy. A six-speaker Pioneer audio system and 7.0-inch touchscreen should please audiophiles and tech lovers alike. Scion’s demise won’t leave the iM out in the cold—it’ll live on as the Toyota Corolla iM for 2017.

Product Reviews:

I had my car (08 Scion XD with Toyota's 100,000 mi. Platinum Extended Warranty) serviced on 5/3/12 at Sansone Toyota in Avenel, NJ. I didn't receive any of the repairs that were covered under warranty, but was persuaded into a brake service and windshield repair at my expense. My request included fixing electrical problems and checking the engine area for anything that could be wrong. My car was about 100 miles from the 100,000 mile warranty limit and I informed the service manager that I was hearing a sound and noticed a leak under the car. I put the request in writing b/c Sansone overlooked my first request to fix the electrical issue with the dome lights in the past.I was sent away to wait for parts to be ordered and was told that nothing was wrong with my car. On 6/6/12, my car broke down and I had it towed to Gateway Toyota from a local mechanic. The odometer read 101,277, so I called Toyota Extra Care and explained what happened b/c my warranty had only expired weeks ago. They told me to have it towed to Toyota b/c the warranty was in the "grace period" and there was a shot they would cover the repairs if they were included in the warranty. The mechanic told me I needed a water pump, which was included in warranty, but Extra Care wouldn't cover it and there was no such thing as a "grace period". I paid $600 and called corporate for partial assistance. My car overheated 5 minutes after I left Gateway Toyota. I took the car back and was told that I needed a new engine! I received no help from Toyota and believe that they were negligent more than once. I am appalled! I was deceived by Extra Care's customer service representatives and am highly unsatisfied with the quality of Toyota's service departments. There must have been something wrong when I took my car in a month earlier!

Had my 2006 Scion TC for four years and has over 200,000 miles on it and I've had no major problems at all. I think I replace the alternator at one point. Tires because I drive a lot open that not a single problem.

The advertised sticker on my 2006 Scion xA stated 32 to 37 mpg. I am lucky to get 25 mpg on the highway. Manual transmission. The gear ratios are obviously off; however, the Toyota dealership states it is "normal." I don't know who they are trying to kid— except me! When driving 57 mph, the ROMs are over 3,000. It is impossible to get normal gas mileage.

Warranty Enhancement Offer has expired but what about all the broken Scions still on the road? There should NOT be an expiration on them replacing a defective part. Many Scion owners were never notified or turned away from dealers that did not know about or honor offer! Check out Facebook Page with 2000 people that joined have been affected. I bought my 2016 Scion iA preowned with 91k miles on it a month ago. For a Toyota product I expected better. Transmission made a whine noise and I had to get the dealer to replace it under their crappy used car warranty. Got it back and it made noises like the engine was falling out. Had it towed back to the dealer and they said mounts/dampers were loose so they tightened them up. Aside from these issues, two of the infotainment buttons stick to where they can’t be pressed. The infotainment screen has been cutting off while driving for no reason. Bluetooth connectivity and built in apps often don’t work. The car shakes like riding an old tractor when transmission is in gear. I don’t know what’s wrong with it now. Also, the rear door seals on both doors are falling down.

My 2009 Scion XD had thick black smoke pouring out of the driver's side door after I started the car and rolled the windows down. It smelled like burning tires. I was in a crowded parking garage on the 4th floor. I turned the ignition off and ran away from the car because I thought it was going to go up in flames. Luckily the smoke disappeared...but not the putrid odor. I proceeded to drive home...but I was petrified the entire trip. I called the dealership the next morning and left a message. No one returned my call. I called back a total of 12 times....nothing....so I called back again. No one would help me. I took the fuse out that powers the windows and drove up to the dealership. I located a service advisor and told him what happened. I have an appointment tomorrow morning. I'm really frustrated with this situation. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this type of problem?

My Scion TC is reliable and enjoyable to drive and economical to maintain. The interior is comfortable and the front seats give good support. The air conditioning and heating work well. The controls on the steering wheel are easy to use. I like the bucket seats, manual transmission gives a sporty feel to drive, adequate power from the engine, power windows, cruise control and good sound system, sporty handling, sufficient storage capacity to carry luggage on a trip. The wheels are attractive. However, the glass sunroof rattles and adds heat to the interior of the car in warm weather. The area behind the gas filler door traps dirt and is difficult to clean.

I have a 2008 XB. I am having the same problem with oil consumption. The oil light barely flickered once. Luckily, I checked the oil and it was 3 quarts low! I can't believe this! I have over 2 years of payments left on this car! This is the worst problem I have had but not the first. Last year, the air bag harness went bad but was covered under the warranty. Last month, the electronic steering went bad but was not covered and it cost me $750! This car truly is a piece of junk. In light of this, I will never buy another Toyota product again. This was my second Toyota. My first was a Corolla which lasted 10 years with zero problems and is probably still running somewhere. I sold it as I wanted a new car. It’s a big mistake! Everyone having these problems needs to complain about this, so maybe they will be recalled and not a total loss will be caused. I cannot afford to just put a new engine in or buy a new car!

I own a 2011 Scion Xb with 35,360 miles on it. My transmission has gone out on it and I am 1 month and 6 days beyond the 60 month factory warranty and because I did not have the car regularly serviced at Toyota facilities they refuse to work with me. Again, 35,360 miles on a vehicle that was/is regularly serviced just not by Toyota dealerships. Toyota dealership told me $5000.00 to replace transmission when in fact it is just a solenoid within the transmission that needs replacing. I will not be having the necessary work performed by Toyota. Up until this experience I was very happy with the vehicle but, for this to occur 1 month and 6 days outside of the 60 month/60,000 mile warranty on a vehicle with 35,360 miles on it is ridiculous. That is what I call very precise, planned obsolescence.
