Based in Silicon Valley, Lucid Motors began as a developer of battery technology. Its Atieva subsidiary has supplied batteries to the Formula E electric-car racing series since 2018. This ambitious automaker enters the EV fray with a platform, battery, motor, and electronics that were designed in house, with an emphasis on compact design. The first production model from Lucid is an ultra-luxury electric sedan called Air. This is expected to be followed by an SUV variant and eventually more mainstream models, all to be produced at its own factory in Casa Grande, Arizona.
