Lexus Will Reinvent Trademark Design Flourishes For The EV Age
Posted On: March 17, 2022
Lexus, like every other manufacturer, must have one eye on the future to survive. To that end, it has promised to introduce at least three new electric vehicles and has turned to design students to see what the future of luxury mobility may look like. Luxury Lexus mobility today looks good from most angles, but there's no denying that the brand's signature spindle grille is almost as controversial as BMW's elongated kidneys. With the right proportions, it can look pretty good, but as the Lexus LX proves, the Japanese automaker does not always show restraint. So will things change much when the automaker fully embraces electrification? In an interview with Luxurylaunches, Head of Toyota and Lexus Global Design Simon Humphries answers that question and more. Speaking on his sources for inspiration, Humphries says that people are his most obvious source, but he does admit that the trends of each era tend to influence car design, which could explain why those grilles are getting bigger and bigger. By the same token, the modern age has unlocked many new possibilities for designers, thanks to innovations like 3D printing that allow one to create shapes that would be impossible with conventional processes.rnAnother factor that influences car design is the purpose of the car and its capabilities. Humphries explains that, when autonomous cars become mainstream, the interiors will have to change and the cars themselves could become small enough to seat only one individual, since personal mobility may become something of a pleasure with autonomous taxis and other forms of transport set to eventually make owning a car all but redundant. Fortunately, Humphries believes that this won't be an "all or nothing" situation where you can only commute autonomously, so cars should still provide joy to those who seek it in the future. "Personal transportation on a public level will grow, and the majority of the mobility needs will be fulfilled by those systems," explained Humphries. "That's a necessity because not everybody will be able to drive a car in the cities of the future - I don't think. But what will happen then is then that will allow the privately owned vehicles to be more specific. So if you can fulfill your everyday needs through an optimized system then the car that you buy can be, honestly, like a racing car; or it could be a box that you can live in almost. In other words, there's going to be more variety in the future to ownership as well. So [...] it will also enable a more emotional privately-owned sector to flourish."rnSimply put, Humphries sees the future of car design evolving to suit the purposes of each individual car and its buyers, and this will happen progressively. Autonomous tech still has a long way to go, and the changes that cars will undergo to better suit autonomous driving and its possibilities for occupants will be implemented very gradually. As for the infamous Lexus spindle grille that we first saw in 2011, changes to this will happen gradually too. When asked what will happen to the polarizing design trait when Lexus is all-in on EVs, Humphries explained why it exists at present and how it will evolve as follows:rn"The spindle grille - we originally developed that to encompass the needs for a radiator, but also for aerodynamic brake cooling. So function was all built into it. But the radiator is the symbol for an internal combustion engine. So what the future holds, in my mind, is that we have to develop it, evolve it to encompass sensors. [...] So, in the past, it was a hole to put air into the radiator. In the future, it's going to hold sensors and other functional elements of the future cars. So don't worry, it's not going to disappear. But it's going to change."rnHopefully, it'll get smaller and sexier. We'll just have to wait and see.

Hybrid or gasoline, the Lexus dealer has from small cars to large cars, small SUVs to large SUVs. There is a huge selection of colors and options. There is a price point for almost everyone. Plus all vehicles fit at least 4. It just depends on your needs. They have an SUV for 8 passengers. You decide if you need to transport that amount of people and want to drive a really big SUV. Lexus has very advanced technology standard in every vehicle. Upgrades are very personal. Full leather wood steering wheel colored rims. Overall pure luxury- easy driving and handling. Incredible safety record great standard technological options. You will be safe and feel safe.

I purchased a 2007 470LX in excellent condition. When it was delivered, the rear view mirror was hanging down and the car smelled as if it had been in a flood (car supposedly one-car, Lexus certified pre-owned). The seat belts are water-stained. There is rust on the chrome or metal of the seat belts.Upon delivery, I expressed my dissatisfaction and concern about it being water damaged, but got no satisfactory explanation. I might add that I paid a premium because it was a limited edition with only 32,000 miles. The dealership is not accepting or acknowledging that anything is not as advertised or described to me. My dealership in Dallas (Sewell) had been great, and I have already paid $250 additional to try to get the smell out of the car. Do I have any legal rights, or how can I make Scanlon Lexus respond?

There were a lot of choices, same car different packages. Theres a type of car for every type of person, however, its more of a luxury brand. Its a mid-size level sedan and it has good dependability. It is also roomy and fits the standard sedan passenger size. Three in the back and one passenger up front. Theres also good leg room for all passengers. The car looks nice on the outside, my hybrid came with wood trim and dark brown on the inside. This did not match too well with blue exterior color. There are very few packages available for my hybrid selection and only one available for what I was purchasing. It had to be shipped from another dealer and took a week.

First of all, this is my first ever negative review for any company. Unfortunately, based-on what has just happened to us, I felt an obligation to at least warn others. Lexus doesn’t stand by their brand, and ultimately won’t take care of loyal customers even when your car is still somewhat in warranty. We’ve owned two other Lexuses over the past 15 years and have proclaimed we would only buy Lexus going forward for life. Our 2014 RX350 (purchased in 2015 at 28k miles) had a 100k mile warranty or Sept. 2020 expiration. We are just under 130,000 miles on the vehicle and our engine is completely gone (just 6-year old car).We spent over $300 for the diagnostic test alone at the dealership at the request of the manufacturer to validate the assessment of a trusted third party repair shop who told us that the engine was shot and would need to be replaced costing $10K. The Lexus dealership provided an estimate over $6K to fix an engine with the disclaimer that more parts may be needed after tearing it down (assuming the cost is going to be much more). This is not even a new engine replacement. All regular maintenance has been done faithfully at an independent and reputable auto service business.Lexus manufacturer has completely refused to help in any way even though a representative at the dealership says they never see this happen in these models. Our car is unfortunately not worth more than $13,000 and the cost of repairs simply don’t make sense. Lexus doesn’t stand behind its product and have definitely tarnished it’s reputation as a brand. We would have probably spent at least $300k more in our lifetime on Lexus vehicles and passed down the current vehicle to our daughter because of their perceived reliability and quality. This is not the case!!!!They washed it all away for simply not replacing our engine this once or even helping in some way (they didn’t even reimburse us for the diagnostic test they requested to consider the issue). Lexus should be ashamed, and I hope this review helps someone else avoid this situation in the future. Lexus, don’t brag about your product reliability, customer service, and commitment to customers satisfaction. Going forward we will chose to do business with a company with more integrity and honesty.

I am a current owner and driver of a 2007 Lexus is250. This car was purchased brand new in October 2006 from the Westminster Lexus dealership. Since the very beginning this car has had many problems which include numerous manufacturer recalls. In 2011, shortly before the warranty expired, the navigation unit went out. By the time the car was taken in, it was 60 miles over the warranty miles (Warranty was void because of mileage not years). The dealership said that we would have to pay for the repairs and quoted the repair to be $2,300+. Also around this time, the dashboard began to get sticky. Another repair that would have to be fixed out of pocket. This car has been very well taken care of. We made sure that we followed all the manufacturers recommendations on how to properly care for this car. We have never used any solvent or spray on the dashboard and followed the recommendations to use warm water. A sunshade has been used since the first day to shield the sun away from the dark interior. I have tried countless times to see if any Lexus dealership could help me out because this has to be a manufacturers defect but no dealership has offered to help. I have met several Lexus owners that have experienced the same problems. I have read on online forums even more people from all parts of the United States and in the U.K. who have the same problems. I am not as concerned with the little problems with the car as much as I am with the navigation unit and the dashboard. I finally decided to contact Consumer Affairs after a friend suggested I do. She has a separate problem with her Lexus and said that bringing this to your attention may finally get results. I feel as though buyers of Lexus are getting the short end of the stick. We spend so much money purchasing a luxury car but end up with a defective vehicle that requires more money to fix. Im not even going to go into details about the cars paint.

We purchased a 2011 Lexus RX 350 in April of 2013. Shortly after we noticed rat droppings inside the car. Every day there was more. We put a mouse trap inside the back hatch and we caught one. In a few days we noticed more droppings and set the trap again. We caught another one. Then, we caught 2 more. Called Lexus in California, they told us to contact the local dealer in Birmingham, AL. We did and he told us they had the Lexus coming in all the time with mice. He said there was no way to keep them out, they were coming in from the bottom. We carried it to a friends tire service and put it up on the rack. There was no place for them to get in under there. With further searching, we found that the rats were building a nest in the fresh air filter. This past week, more droppings, set traps again, caught 2 more mice. We have had 4 Ford Explorers, 3 Chevrolet SUV, numerous other vehicles, trucks galore. We had 5 sons that had vehicles and none of the above or childrens had mice. That is a total of 6 mice caught in this car since May. This seems petty compared to what the previous comments were. It would really be terrible if the mice chewed the leather seats or some of the wiring. It would really be bad if one ran up our leg.

Disappointed! My 2010 Lexus RX350 died in CDA Idaho. No warning... Oil everywhere, not drivable. Had it towed to Toyota dealership in CDA. Diagnosed as blown oil hose (manufacturer defect). Would be covered if we paid to have it towed to Spokane Lexus, but not covered for the work to be done where it is. It is approx. $200 fix... No recall or letter sent regarding the defect! It would cost more to have it towed! If this is a known manufacturer defect how are we suppose to know?

I looked through all the models Lexus offered and they have a model for everyone. Soccer mom, cowboy, surfer, or banker. That tells you that Lexus pays attention. I get enjoyment out of my driving experience. The Lexus brand allows you to personalize your car to a great degree. I was able to get all of the features I desired and it was still reasonably priced. People ask me constantly about the features and I tell them you can get it how you like it. When you see my Lexus you know that its a Lexus. From its beautiful exterior lines to its supple leather interior its just a beautiful machine. It has a powerful reliable engine, and wonderful safety features. My Lexus IS very roomy as Im six foot one inches tall and I sit comfortably with three other passengers with plenty of room for more people. I also have plenty of trunk space.

I am the owner of two Lexus vehicles. I am investing my time to inform you of my feelings towards Lexus; as the respect, integrity and trust, which I have so highly esteemed about Lexus, has been compromised. This time the 2007 Lexus ES 350 with just 34,000 miles encountered a problem with the passenger window as it would no longer function properly. What I learned is that the window mechanism is so cheaply made that the plastic parts just broke apart. This design flaw resulted in a five hundred dollar plus repair bill that stole hard-earned dollars from other priorities my family has at this time. When I needed to truly rely upon Lexus reliability during challenging economic times, you let me and my family down. What is concerning is the fact the other three windows will certainly face the same catastrophic failure. (And surprisingly, considering the fact that the windows are hardly ever used as the Florida heat makes the AC priority one). The bottom line is this: Why would I ever buy another Lexus product when price and value are so far apart? Please let me know how you may be able to help given the aforementioned situation that my family and I currently find ourselves in.Lexus Service Specialists phone reply: As you did not visit our service department and took your car to a private repair facility, you voided your warranty. My car was well out of warranty, but they said that the CPO (certified pre-owned) Warranty would have covered this had I gone to the dealer. Well actually, the CPO would not cover a window repair; but the Service Specialists... they would have helped if I would have asked. Wow, with my other Lexus which had several service issues, the dealership was very specific that the warranty did not cover my problem and all costs would be borne by me. It is so sad to be witnessing the demise of the famed Lexus brand name. My friends and neighbors, who also own Lexus products, have also commented never again when asked if they would purchase another Lexus, as their own experiences have been much worse than mine… so sad.

I recently bought a 2006 Lexus IS350, For some odd reason it was difficult for me to drive the vehicle due to visibility, turns out the vehicle has a worldwide issue with melting dashboards! Making it hard to drive as it reflects your visibility. The first thing I did was contact my nearest Lexus dealer and ask if they can fix this issue! GUESS WHAT! THEY CANT AND WONT! Turns out theyve extended the warranty already for 10 years, so for customers and drivers who have bought the car after the 10 year mark ARE OUT OF LUCK. THIS IS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AS IT DIMINISHES YOUR VISIBILITY! Other than this car I also own a 2008 Lexus RX350 WITH NO ISSUES, but Lexus has completely let me down on this. This shows they dont care about their product and customers, sadly this will be my last Lexus.

Every statistic and fact out there indicates that service gives any company a competitive advantage, and the lack of it can be the demise of the business. When did money become first over the customer? When did customer service get so bad? I didnt expect this from Lexus. Especially since Lexus takes proud in their service and their name. I called customer service because I was told to by the service manager at my local dealership. Only with the intention of them helping me with a solution to my problem. My SD card slot cover is missing. Unfortunately for me Lexus doesnt sale this part individually. You have to buy a new stereo which cost $2389.00. After a few days I was told by my case manager that they find a way to help me and the dealership would be contacting me. A few minutes later she called back and said that she was told to advise me to go to a pick and pull and remove the part from a damaged car. I was truly upset and belittled at this point. So I asked for a Supervisor. The Supervisor called me back and welcomed me to the Lexus family and asked me how she could help. I explained to her what happened and she explained that the part wouldnt be covered under warranty. She called back and stated she talk to the service manager at the dealership and since I bought a used I was responsible for the missing part. Ok, thats exactly what you told me yesterday. I told her I wanted to know who advised me to go to pick and pull. She was more focused on my car being used then helping me. My car is still under warranty. Its still a Lexus what does it matter if its use? When I asked her for the service managers name she couldnt even tell me who she talked to. Which tells me she didnt look into anything. I called the dealership and the service manager said they would never recommend anyone to pick and pull. I truly believe that the service manager didnt his best to help me. I called the exclusive office to see if they could explain to me who advised me to go to pick and pull. Days later I finally got a callback. I was told that it wasnt nothing in the notes that stated that I was advised that. I asked if the calls are recorded if it could be pull for review. No call was recorded she said. How funny is that? So did I just make this all help?? Again no help!! The people that I talked to have Very Poor Customer service skills and are in need of a lot of training. I never got an apology for being told that the dealership would replace the missing part by mistake. Whats the point of having a customer service department if they cant help the customer but only make things worse. Customers want an easy experience. No hassle and no friction. Customers want to deal with knowledgeable professional people. Customers want a friendly experience. People want to be treated like people. After all, they are people – not account numbers. Use customers’ names whenever possible. Look for opportunities to build rapport and break the ice. Show that you care. That’s what friendly people (and businesses) do. Unfortunately you wont get this from Lexus.

Lexus RX300 - At 99,000 miles the transmission had to be replace. Now the new one which I was told the only remanufactured part was the casing, has failed at 24,000 miles. They are making customers pay for repairs because of warranty running out. Does this make them unaccountable when with all these complaints they knowingly put in bad parts? Why isnt this being investigated? Do you know how dangerous it is to have a transmission fail when driving on a highway? Do people have to die before this issue is taken care of in a professional manner without lying or corrupted intentions? I am not paying for their corrupted actions. I purchased a 2007 IS250 new...I recently sold it seven years new with only 90,000 miles on it. I was very faithful in the maintenance of my car. I received a notice from Lexus saying if my cars idol changed or seemed different, to bring it in and they would check to see if car stored any codes and if it had they would fix it. Although they never did say what may be causing the misfiring!? My car never stored any codes although it did at times feel as though it was going to die, and after speaking to others about situation, I found out that they too had a Lexus with same issue that never stored any codes. The two people that I know personally and on a regular basis have had their pistons replaced by Lexus at no charge and this is the same thing that was wrong with my car. I did not wait to see when Lexus headquarters would ok my local Lexus dealership to repair pistons in my car. I got rid of car that I should have owned for another seven years and another 90,000 miles!! It is unfortunate that Lexus is sweeping under the rug that these cars have piston issues and that the piston issue can create other issues with the cars. I can write forever about all the other issues that it caused me and two other people I know. If I ever find that there is a class action suit I will be including myself in that suit. I now have a new car and a new payment. My Lexus was paid off when I bought it new. And, of course I shouldnt have a new car or a new payment as again I shouldve owned my Lexus for seven more years and 90,000 more miles!! Lexus ES330, 2004: I purchased one in 2005 with 13,XXX miles. From day one the slow shift has been a problem. The car constantly bucks when the gears change. I have taken it to service and theyve reset the computer many times. My biggest problem is the delay when accelerating; sometimes 3 to 5 seconds (if at higher speed and need to change lanes, etc. ) the delay has created near misses. I cannot get Lexus to admit this is a problem, or prove it. They say they re-designed the transmission (I think) in 2009. Meanwhile, Im stuck. I hate this car. They had a wide variety of colors and supercharged. Some were all power anti-lock brakes and leather seating, and a lot of the cars were low miles. The one that I chose had classic black interior with power windows and the stereo screen was a big screen that came up and out. I had the lights changed to the blue lights that were of higher definition. The seats were so nice because they were leather heated seats and the body type was just what I was looking for. It had really low miles for the year that it was. I was very happy with the capacity since there was a lot of room for the tall people in my family and there was enough room to fit my children in comfortably with their car seats.

I have the Lexus ES 350 2011 model. My FOB only opens the front door - drivers side only. The passenger side and the rear back doors do not open. When I open manually the other 3 doors (passenger and rear back doors) and I use the FOB, it locks but will not unlock. Is this a programming problem? My Lexus technician says that I should replace all three locks at a cost of $1,500.00. Please advise.

Why Scout GPS Link is only available on select 2018 model year (NX, RX...) with the Lexus Display Audio multimedia head unit? The reason why I ask this question is that the existing GPS is cumbersome to use comparing with Scout GPS Link. It should be very simple and easy to implement it with the existing system of Lexus as I am a software engineer with more than 30 years of experience. Please let me know if you need my help. This add-in will definitely benefit all of Lexus car users. Thank you.

Lexus has sedans, SUVs and also little sportsters. I bought a sedan specifically the Lexus ES. Its the perfect size sedan and its the cheapest of their sedans, but it was not cheap at all. Tax tags and out the door at $45,000. I love it though. Everything in the dash is touch or talk controlled. There were a lot of expensive packages I could have added to my car such as rims, speakers, stereo, leather, etc. but I kept it modest because I wanted to get out under $50,000. The back can fit 3 people, the front can fit 2, so five people total. Even 3 adults can fit comfortably across the back seat and probably can fit 2 car seats.

I have a 10-year-old 2002 RX 300. The 3-button key casing broke and I need a replacement. I called the Englewood, NJ Lexus dealer and the Parts Dept. said I must come down with proof of ID and ownership (which is perfectly acceptable) and the Master Key, plus it takes 2 days to get the key and costs $260. If I dont have the Master Key, then there is no replacement! This is utterly wrong on several levels, but the main complaint is that, $260 for a key with a simple electronic code seems over-the-top for people who desperately need a key for their car. Half that cost would be considered high, but $260!?

I bought a 2010 used certified Lexus 450H from a Lexus dealer, added the prepaid servicing, and extended warranty. About 2 mo ago, May 2014, I noticed the maps would reset into a configuration I had not programmed. Then about 10 times when I hit the start button, the screen went black blank and the map screen said, do not shut off power… rebooting. Took it to Putnam Lexus, they said would order part and call me in 10 days… in Redwood City, CA - big dealership. They said they did not have a replacement computer (must have 100,000 cars in this area) but no parts??? Five times in last three days the computer had to reboot, changes all the preset parameters. Now it is affecting the driving gauges, as they are reporting erroneous things ie 50 mi/gallon. If computer stops while driving will be a large accident, extremely unsafe. ** at Putnam says funny, the 50 mi/gallon… blew off the extreme safety hazard of a computer going out while driving. Cannot get me in and a loaner car until tomorrow, even if unsafe. Lexus you are the premier - get your act together, this is serious.

I was looking for a nice sedan, and all the options available really blew me away. Very glad that I had decided to go with Acura over other options that were out there. A major selling point for me was the quality and sturdiness of the power windows. I was looking for something that will last me and not cost an arm and a leg when they break down so frequently. Ive had motors for windows go bad in several of my previous cars, so it was a must to find a brand with quality power windows. The windows work really well. The car is mainly for myself so I could really care less about the space, but if I do ever have passengers, Im pretty certain they will be very comfortable and that is awesome. I believe I will be staying with Acura the next time I am shopping for a vehicle.

Never thought I would be writing a negative post about Lexus! I purchased a 2015 GS350 F Sport that was certified back in November 2018. It had 24,000 miles. It is still under the Manufacturer Warranty as well as the Certified Warranty. Last month I noticed the finish on the rims was peeling. I took it to the dealer and they took photos to send to the district Manager. I was told I would hear back in about a week of a resolution. Two weeks later, I still had not heard anything. I called the service rep. He told me he would get back with me. Later that day he called and said that the District Manager said that it did not appear to be a Manufacturer issue. Dissatisfied, I called Lexus Corporate and after many phone calls back and forth was told that they will not do anything about it! This is completely unacceptable. I will be sure to tell everyone know how Lexus does not stand behind their warranty!!

I bought a 2014 Lexus 350. About a year after I had the car I noticed the leather on the driver seat was getting creases in it. I very seldom have passengers in my car so I only noticed it on my seat. Each time I took it in to be serviced, I pointed it out to the service tech and asked what could be causing it. This is my first luxury car and the first experience with leather upholstery. No one could give me an answer. At any rate it has gotten worse over the past year. I have written 2 letters to Lexus with no response. Finally, the last time I took the car in the service tech said the dealer could not do anything and gave me phone # of Lexus. I have called 3 times to explain the issue, was given a case number and was told a case manager would call me in 1-2 days to discuss. No call. After I called the 3rd time to say I still hadnt received a call from the CM the person I spoke with suggested I send the photos I took of the seats to Lexus along with my case number. Still no response except to say they received it. I spoke with a friend last night who has a 2016 Lexus with the same problem and he has had no luck at the dealer either. Has anyone else had this issue with the leather seats?? I keep a towel on my seat now because it looks so bad. I told Lexus I am very disappointed in their lack of response to this issue as I was always told what a GREAT car the LEXUS and that TOYOTA stands behind their product. Well as far as I am concerned they are way behind in their customer service. Shame on you! I have contacted my attorney to see what he suggests I do. All I WANT IS FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE SEAT.

I bought a Certified 2004 RX330 from Lexus Clearwater. I bought the car in 06, the SUV had 22k miles, was soon told I needed new tires. Did research as why would I need new tires now, especially on a Certified car, with so little mileage and only two years old. The tires were switched out, they were Cooper tires which arent the tires from the Lexus manufacturer. When I asked Clearwater Lexus about this and told them someone from Tampa Lexus had talked with me about the issue, they said, Why would you listed to Tampa Lexus? They are worse than we are!! I spoke with the corporate office and best they would do is offer new tires at retail - still bogus. Now my dash is cracking and Lexus Tampa said $1900 to replace, and 10% off as I dont service my car there enough for a larger discount. Now the headlights are cloudy and there is a recall, but there are no parts for their own recall just an acknowledgement that there is an issue. I was duped by Lexus, they are horrible. Very sorry I ever bought a car from them. Dealerships should provide an actual printout on how they certify a car, if they had, the tires wouldnt have passed a certification test. Like a home inspection, I want to see levels and percentages of wear and tear and how they could ever pass worn tires as certified. Lexus shmexus. Poor quality, certified means nothing, horrible customer service.

My complaint is with Lexus, not so much with the dealer. I started having resetting of the navigation system in my 2006 RX330 about six weeks ago with the issue occurring about every 1.5 hours. Now, it happens every 1.5 minutes. The issue does not interfere with the operation of the vehicle, but it is most annoying. Each time the system resets, the audio system is momentarily interrupted but the hands-free (Bluetooth) connection is killed, rendering it useless.I went to the Lexus dealer for a fix, assuming the problem would be minor--perhaps just a loose connection somewhere behind the dashboard. Surprise! They concluded that the five-year-old factory-installed navigation system needs complete replacement at a cost of $1740. Unbelievable. Will I look to Lexus when time comes to buy something new? Unlikely.

Lexus has several models, but I chose their RX 400h Hybrid. Its a great automobile. I got great gas mileage, and really felt like I was helping the environment. Previously I had a 4 door sedan, I owned that car for 12 years before selling it and getting the SUV. There are 2 bucket seats in front and a back bench seat. The vehicle seated 4 adults comfortably, and I was always able to get 3 grandchildren in booster seats in back. The cargo space was roomy as well. The vehicle I purchased was fully loaded, there was nothing more to upgrade. The leather interior was easy to keep clean. Heated seats to keep you warm, sunroof, 4 wheel drive. I know there were other upgrades included, such as the automatic headlights and windshield wipers. I loved the way the windshield wipers could sense when there was rain! Moreover, the vehicle had an entertainment package, built-in CD players installed in the back of the front seats. My grandchildren adored watching CDs and it certainly made traveling with the 3 of them a pleasant experience.

I recently purchased a 2010 RX350 (my fourth Lexus after owning a RX300, RX330, SC430). This has an extremely noisy engine upon start up and for the first 5-8 miles of cold operation. The noise has been identified by several online experts as such things as injectors, timing gears or chain but I believe and just recently confirmed with a Master Lexus Technician that its a poor piston design with their 3.5 L engines. The noise is a scuffed piston noise (indicating too much piston to cylinder wall clearance) and I also believe the piston skirt is too short allowing the piston to rock in the cylinder when it is started cold. I find that the Lexus store explanation that they all do it is not acceptable. I have a GM Duramax diesel that is quieter upon start up than this 2010 RX 350. I am guessing that at some point, the engine will begin to use oil and get louder. I am not sure what I will do as I may sell or trade of the RX350 because it is just unacceptable for this luxury car to sound so disgusting. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone until a proper repair is completed. Probably should see about a class action suit against this engine.

A little over a year ago we purchased a 1995 Lexus RX330. We purchased the vehicle as our first luxury vehicle with the hopes that the money would be well spent on luxury and quality of the vehicle. But after having the vehicle for almost 1 year we noticed that the dash started cracking along the front edge and then after picking my wife up from work one day a large chunk of the dash right above the radio broke off and fell to the floor. We immediately called Lexus and asked about having the dash repaired they informed us that there was a recall on the dash and to call Lexus about having the dash repaired. We called Lexus and notified them of the cracked Dash and they informed us that there is indeed a recall for the cracked Dash but they told us the date for the recall expired the day before we called. But that they would look into it and see if there was something they could do.We took the time to take the vehicle to the local Lexus dealer to have pictures taken. Have it inspected and sent to Lexus so that they can review it only for them to call us and tell us they were denying the repairs on the vehicle. So now we are stuck with a vehicle in which the resale value has plummeted due to the crack Dash. Im very disappointed with Lexus that they do not stand behind their vehicle or even offered to pay a portion of the dash to be repaired. If this is how Lexus treats their customers I no longer want this vehicle and will be trading it in as soon as possible. A few days after purchasing my 2018 ES 350 Lexus I noticed a fumey smell in the car after driving it for a few miles. The car was a certified used car so I thought maybe there were lingering scent from the previous owner, so I gave the interior of the car a thorough cleaning, but I couldnt get rid of the scent. I used all different types of air freshener but the fumes scent kept coming back, especially when I was driving on the highway. What really scared me was when I was transporting my daughter and she stated that, Mom the smell inside your car makes me feel nauseated. I called the car dealership Lexus of Palm Beach immediately, I stated the problem and was told to bring the car in.To my surprise Lexus has been aware of the problem since 2006. I was given a HVAC odor maintenance bulletin dated February 6th 2020, which stated that some 2006 to 2020 model year Lexus vehicles may exhibit odors that naturally occur from the HVAC system and/or related environmental factors. Although there is no way to eliminate these orders, follow the general procedure in this bulletin to minimize the order experience. I was told to purchase a charcoal AC filter with an AC refresher for $265 plus tax that may or may not minimize the order experienced. The most shameful part of this experience with Lexus was that they were trying to convince me that other motor vehicle manufacturers had the same problem, The problem I see here is Lexus chose not to fix this problem. They have been aware of this problem since 2006 and they continue to manufacture vehicles with the same odor problem as of 2020. I have driven other cars that were not fume coffins, like this ES 350. Other automotive vehicle manufacturers choose to fix this problem. I bought this car because it was a Lexus and the name Lexus was associated with prestige and luxury. I now have a car, I still owe thousands of dollars that I cannot transport my children in. I have to drive the car because its my only means of transportation but I feel unsafe in it every day I drive it.I am so tired of corporations and people who work for these corporations that dont care about their customers and their safety. I bought a Lexus, I expected the best in luxury, before buying this car I drove a Kia. It did not have an odor issue so Kia found a way to fix the problem, why Lexus refuses to fix this fume odor issues. Shame on you Lexus Manufacturer.

My wife and I have a Lexus 430. The trunk lid has an electric power latch which automatically operates to pull the lid down tight when the lid is closed. On 9/30/13, I pulled the switch that opens the trunk in order to allow my wife to take out groceries that were inside the trunk. As my wife was in the course of lifting the trunk lid with her fingers, the latch unexpectedly and without warning activated to close the lid on her fingers with such crushing force that her finger bone was fractured, and her fingernail was pulled out. My wife has been suffering excruciating pain since the mishap! The Lexus owners manual does not give any warning or advice about how to open or close the trunk lid. I went away and after I returned I called him on February 5th or so. He said he had not heard anything but he would contact the appropriate people and have an answer for me by days end. I told him if I did not hear from him I would be calling Lexus. He assured me he would call that day. I never heard from him.I called Lexus USA and spoke to Ed. He said he would check into it and get back to me by Friday. I missed his call on Friday. He called Tuesday and informed me that as the dealer had told me, the damage as normal wear and tear. I just told him that my family had 4 Lexus automobiles and they would be our last. When you sell a car for $75,000, the interior should last more than 3 years. My previous car was a 2003 Cadillac, cost 1/2 as much and when I bought the Lexus the center console was in better shape after eight years of use than the Lexus is after 3 years. By the way, Ed from Lexus offered to pay for 1/2 the repair. As far as I am concerned the Lexus warranty is only a 1/2 warranty shown by this situation.

I leased a 2013 Lexus ES350 from Sewell Lexus in Fort Worth on Oct. 18, 2013. This is the 4th or 5th Lexus ES350 that I have leased and have been very satisfied until this car. We are both retired and have less than 9000 miles on it. We had driven this car without any problems up until Dec. 2014. In Dec. 2014 we went to start the car and the battery was dead. Sewell sent roadside service and replaced the battery. All was good until April 2015. Same problem, dead battery. They checked it out and said everything was good. In April 2015 same problem. They have checked it out. Cannot find problem. Said we dont drive it enough. If so, how did we drive it for over one year with no problems. Anyone else have same problem?

Lexus is a great brand. The vehicles that the Lexus brand offers has a look of luxury. It offers many different styles and sizes in cars and SUVs. I love the add on options. Lexus brand offers many upgrades and personalized options for you to add on for an additional cost. You definitely get what you pay for with the Lexus brand. My Lexus LX SUV is pearl white and despite it being over ten years old I get compliments on a regular basis. It still drives wonderfully and I havent had any issues with it either. The leather interior, heated seats, and built in GPS makes ride very comfortable. It also offers plenty of space for passengers to enjoy their ride. There is enough space for 5 to have plenty of room, including plenty of leg space for backseat passengers as well, which makes the LX perfect for long distance trips.

Before I begin my complaint I would like to say the car drives very well and is very sporty. I get a lot of compliments on the vehicle, then they say why is that peeling like that? My Email correspondence with Lexus about my issue: I have a 2006 GS300. I recently noticed my molding along the front windshield that runs along the top to the windshield beginning to PEEL. Really unbelievable for a luxury car. It is embarrassing and damaging to the Lexus brand to have something like this occur AT NO FAULT of my own to this vehicle. I was at the local dealership on a separate issue and was told the roof drip molding was $763.67, absolutely unbelievable. Total repair cost $1200. Why would this peel like this? This is my second Lexus. I had a LS430 before this. I have by far had more issues out of this vehicle than any others I have owned. I am just blown away and I need Lexus to stand behind their brand. I would like the roof molding repaired. This is just ridiculous to have an issue like this on this type of car.The response from Lexus: Thank you for contacting the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department regarding your 2006 GS 300, Vehicle Identification Number **. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your thoughts. As an automotive manufacturer, Lexus feels its warranty is one of the most comprehensive in the industry, and demonstrates faith in the performance and reliability of its product line. Lexus also realizes that product failures can occur on any vehicle at any time, and regrets any inconvenience this may cause. In an effort to be sensitive to the expectations of Lexus customers, we review matters on a case by case basis when a product failure occurs outside the warranty period. We have examined all information pertinent to your request for assistance, including the nature of the repair, mileage on the vehicle, and the warranty expiration date. We conclude it is not appropriate for Lexus to provide assistance on the repair of the front windshield moldings. We apologize that this may not be the response you hoped for. If you require further assistance, please contact the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department at 1-800-255-3987, Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Pacific Time.My final response: First off thank you for your time and attention to my concern, however I am not pleased with the decision. I see now purchasing a second Lexus was a mistake on my part. I understand Lexus has the right to not stand behind their product and I have the right to not purchase their product. I understand CLEARLY from the discussion from my service advisor that I purchased a USED vehicle not a new one. However as I stated I purchased a used Lexus with a verifiable service history. In fact it was a Lexus certified vehicle. I purchased a used Lexus, not a used Hyundai, Mazda, Chevy, Honda or Ford. Which by the way has a more comprehensive warranty than a Lexus. 5 years, 7 years, and lifetime on certain parts. And cost far less on the initial purchase. Now a Lexus as stated in consumer reports has a better resale and loan value. So I suppose there is the trade off.But as I stated on the outset I will not be purchasing another USED Lexus product certified or not. I will however let the message board know about my experience. I will also let anyone know about Lexus products/customer service and if the paint begins to peel for no reason, out of the blue it’s your issue. Lexus customer service will stand behind the small issues but when it comes to anything costly you’re on your own. I wonder if the door falls off next or the spoiler blows off while driving, the bumper just comes unhooked for no reason, my seat brakes apart… I mean really whats next. Even though it’s a luxury car, it’s not quality built - these are things that should not happen to this type of car. This email may not mean much in the grand picture. I am just one consumer, but I will exercise my right as a consumer. My wife and I have owned Mercedes, BMW, Acura, Audi, and Infiniti. We never had any issues like this to occur. Lexus wants nearly $1200 for a piece of plastic molding!!! Ironically I have never heard of these things happening with a Toyota, only with a Lexus. A Lexus may look good but the quality is another subject.

Im dissatisfied by the lack of concern from Lexus for the issue Im having with a 6yr old vehicle. A Lexus dealership advised that my vehicle needs a new transmission and again the car is only 6yrs old. I spoke with a case manager who said there was nothing she could do about it. I asked to escalate the complaint and was told management had already made the decision. I asked to speak to someone in management and was told management doesnt speak to customers. What horrible customer service from Lexus if this is indeed true. I will never purchase another Lexus and cant wait to get rid of this car. I will also make sure those close to me do not have to deal with the same amount of frustration and advised them to not waste their money on a Lexus because they dont care about their customers. They have quite a few models to choose from. Only a few were in my price range though. They could use some less expensive models in my opinion because not everyone can afford 50k+. The car is very stylish and sleek, and very roomy both for passengers and storage. It has leather interior, wi-fi, GPS, driving assist, and is great on gas mileage. There is a ton of features and you can upgrade almost everything. It all adds up quick though and gets rather pricey. The passenger capacity is great. I can fit 5 people in my car comfortably with plenty of room to move. Im rather short, but my boyfriend is over 6 feet and he sits comfortably in my car.

Bought a RX350 (2008) Certified Preowned Lexus in 2009 from PARK PLACE LEXUS OF PLANO, TX. In 2013, I noticed a crack in the dashboard by the driver’s side vent. Called PARK PLACE LEXUS OF PLANO, TX and was told cracks in the dashboard are not under warranty and it may have been caused by what I was using to clean the dashboard. After arguing with the service guy he went to the service manager and they agreed to repair it and they did.Now in 2018, I have two cracks in the dashboard by the passenger air vent. Researched on the internet to see if other Lexus owners had similar issues. To my surprise many owners have this issue and Lexus had offered to replace the entire dashboard if you have cracks or melting of the dashboard. The dealership told me I needed to call corporate to obtain approval for the dashboard replacement. I called corporate office and they did not show the cracked dashboard had been previously repaired and the offer to replace the defective dashboard had expired in October 2017. I asked if they could repair just the cracks like last time and was told that decision is up to the dealership.I called PARK PLACE LEXUS OF PLANO, TX to see if I could still get the dashboard replaced or repaired. Their system showed the crack in the dashboard was repaired in October 2009. The dealership did not correspond to corporate of my previous repair which I have documentation and receipt. After speaking to the service representative and service manager they will not replace the dashboard since it is up to corporate to approve and will not repair the cracks because one of the cracks is in front of the airbag.Bottom line to replace the defective dashboard I will have to pay approximately ~$2,000. I bought a Lexus based on the reputation of a quality vehicle. Had I known it was so cheap that the dashboard would need to be totally replaced in less than 10 years my decision would have been different. I understand vehicle parts wear out and need to be replaced but not a dashboard. This car is always garaged at home and at work and only has 76k miles. A dashboard should not have cracks on a vehicle this soon and definitely not on any quality luxury car. Based on this experience I would strongly recommend others to stay away of a LEXUS and PARK PLACE LEXUS OF PLANO.

I own a 2007 Lexus RX350 that was purchased in 2008. It has been a very reliable car with few mechanical issues over the last 11 years. In the last year, my dashboard began to crack and now is split in several places. I contacted my Lexus dealer who negated to even inform me there was a national recall on the dash itself. I had taken my vehicle in for routine service during that recall envelope and not one thing was mentioned! Park Place Lexus/DFW area practically blew off my concerns off and told me to call the Lexus 800 number. I was subsequently told the recall period had expired and their attitude stemmed around them informing me it was MY responsibility to check for recalls. What??? Now my paint is fading/peeling even though my car is perpetually garaged and I work overseas 18 days/month. It only has 67k miles! I really loved my Lexus but my experience with my dealer and Lexus HQ has all but convinced me its time to go with another brand. Lexus... youve lost my business!!! Buyers... It stands out way better than other brands, nice color choices and body style. I think I would choice this brand over any other regardless of price etc. I am very happy. I dont think I would really change anything because it seems like they thought of everything when making these cars. But if I did I would just make more custom options available. I would make the passenger side have just as good features as what the drivers side has, if not better because a lot of times the passengers are tired from hard day work when husband decides to drive.

I am writing this review to express my disappointment with The Lexus Brand. I originally leased an IS 250 2008 with 15,000 miles. Within 7 months, the dashboard light up with check engine and stabilization signal blinking. Took my car back to dealer and was told they (dealer) would replace the entire pistons. Since that time Ive had three more incidents of rough idle, stalling, check engine and stabilization signal blinking. The response from the dealer was to perform top engine clean and carbonization. The final straw for me was my wife and traveling on the highway when my car started to vibrate, accelerating difficulties, and completely shutting down.

I bought a brand new 2017 LS 460 an $80,000+ car. I purchased it because Ive had multiple German cars Mercedes and BMW and felt they spend too much time in the repair shop. Well it didnt get much better with my new Lexus. Keep in mind Lexus doesnt have the extra bells and whistles of the German cars so I hoped by buying a Lexus the German car money would go for absolute best build quality and reliability. Right? Keep it simple, make everything out of the best. I should only have to see my dealer for regular scheduled service. I was definitely wrong about that. Ive been in 7 times in 3 months. Ive owned it and theyve fixed nothing. Theyve identified issues but fixed nothing and scratched my rear leather and scratched my dash during a detail. Oh and forgot to clip my rear all-weather floor mat down after a detail so it got caught in my seat rails and ruined my floor mat. It was clipped when I dropped it off.Anyways on top of the dealer not caring for your car if you contact Lexus directly, they dont call you back or they tell you they cant do anything for you. You ask the rep to speak with their supervisor, they say they are as high up in Lexus as you can go and there is nobody else you can speak with. I just dont know what to do. I regret buying a Lexus and Ive only had it a few months. I feel Ive put a good amount of miles on loaner cars. Honestly whenever my German cars broke for example I had a 2016 BMW Z4, whenever I brought it in for service they took care of the problems the first time and always cared about my car. I never got my car back in unsatisfactory condition and they put out the extra effort to diagnose it to fix it correctly. I have yet to receive that kind of service from Lexus. When I brought it in for the scraping noise the dealer said we hear it but we cant find it so youll just have to keep driving it until whatever it is fails. Wait what? I have to drive my brand new $80,000 car until it fails? What kind of work is that. So I called Lexus directly and they told me they side with their franchise dealers diagnosis of the problem. Ill just have to wait, or I can go to another dealer. Im hesitant to go in about the oil burning smell because I want it fixed. I dont want to have a car that I have to wait till it runs out of oil before theyll fix it.Things wrong with the car to date: Rear interior trim/headline piece broke and fell off at 600 miles (although nobody has been in the back seat), plastic trim on dash under stereo warping at 1300 Miles, headliner around sunroof cover coming unglued and snagging on cover at 1400 miles, rough idle at 2300 miles, scraping sound when ambient temperature is below 70 degrees when engine running and driving at 4500 miles still undiagnosed, confirmed but undiagnosed by the dealer, oil burning smell and engine cutting out and surging at 6400 miles need to make a service appointment for this latest disappointment.

I have driven Lexus autos for years and have loved every one of them. This year I purchased a 2016 RX 350. I like everything about the car except: It wasnt until I owned the vehicle that I noticed what feels like a vibration under foot when accelerating from a standing start. There is also a strange noise, which I identify as a groan, when accelerating after slowing down due to traffic or turning a corner. All of this occurs when driving normal not under hard acceleration. Sport mode helps but I dont want to drive around in sport mode. Also, driving the new eight (8) speed transmission is not a pleasant experience. At city speeds it always feels that the transmission is in a higher gear than it should be, causing the engine to lug. I would have thought Lexus would have caught this in testing but, now that the car is released, I cannot believe they are not addressing the issue. This is VERY un-Lexus-like!

Be careful with this problem, I had it happen to me and the dealer said it will likely be a 2500 dollar repair. I went on the net and researched the problem and found it required a software update so I thought 2500 is a bit much so from my computer experiences. I thought a reboot might work so I disconnected the battery cable and left it off for about 10 minutes while I cleaned the cables and posts. Once reconnected, rebooting started and problem fixed proving to me once again that all car dealers are crooks and now Lexus is at the top of all the crooks. It took me about 15 minutes total to do this repair saving me 2500 dollars which equates to 10 thousand dollars an hour at the dealership. They should be arrested for fraud.

2008 RX 350 with 104,000 miles. I purchased extended warranty that was up 3 months ago. Took car in and was told I need a new water pump. Bearings in water pump went back causing leaking and affecting the heating and cooling system. Also need a new steering rack costing $1,700 by itself. It is also leaking. As I read through the comments Im seeing that these are consistent problems with Lexus. I usually keep cars at least 10 years. I have never owned a car that needed these type of repairs so soon. I am extremely disappointed because Lexus vehicles are supposed to be down for quality and reliability. If I had wanted a car just for appearance, I could have paid a lot less, knowing I may have to put in large repair sums. The water pump is supposed to cost over $1,000.00. Will not recommend vehicle. I purchased extended warranty knowing I was getting a reliable vehicle and probably wouldnt have to use it. But to be on the safe side because I had planned on keeping for well over 10 years. As soon as extended warranty expired, Im have costly problems.

On May 9, 2012, I purchased a used 2004 Lexus RX 330 for $14,600. I put a down payment of about $6,000 down and financed about $10,000. My payments are for 3 years at around $240. I drove the vehicle to the Lexus manufacturer to have them find out why my vehicle has a bad odor and other items on vehicle. I found out that this vehicle’s sunroof had been leaking and as a result of the sunroof leaking, that carpet has built up mold and was needed to be replaced. They also found out that there were other things on vehicle that needed replacing; seat belt in the rear seat, front arm controls needed to be replaced, radiator needed to replaced, engine cap was clogged, bushing needed to be replaced, the extra key needed a battery, several dents on the vehicle, tires needed to be replaced and several dents and items that needed to be replaced on the vehicle. The manufacturer advised me that the vehicle was not safe to be on the street without these repairs. I took my concern to Steven and he told me several times that he was not going to fix the problem because he did not have to. He insulted me and my relative and he became very belligerently loud and abusive for no reason. I left the premises and advised him I would be back. It has been 1 month later and this situation has not, up to now, been resolved. Can you please help, because I am paying for car insurance and I have the car payment? This vehicle is just sitting in my driveway for the last 2 months. I have had to rent a rental so that I could pick up and take my son back and forth to college. I hope you can help.

I have a 2010 ultra premium Lexus 350 that has been causing me and my wife stress! Dont buy this vehicle. It is a lemon. There were winding noises in the steering column in the first year that were occurring intermittently. Lexus wont service you until they hear the noise or ** hits the fan. So, telling me that Im imagining things, a few days later at a stop sign, I hear a loud winding sound growing louder and louder under the car, like the car was going to explode and then crack! No noise, but what the hell happened. I told Lexus about what happened and they said that they fixed the problem with a new drive shaft and some other repairs. So I believed problem solved. No Way! Since that repair I have been to two Lexus dealerships and servicing that winding noise so much that I have lost count. Just the other day, my wife and her friends were going to the movies, when they all heard a grinding noise from the steering column than a cracking sound. The noise went away and back to the dealership again. But before going back to the dealership, I called Lexus Canada to file an official complaint because I have had enough and the fact that my 5-year-old son who rides in the vehicle is also recovering from cancer and his safety is at stake. When you drive a vehicle that the steering column makes winding, grinding and cracking noises, enough is enough! The car is at 57000 kilometers right now and enduring this for almost 40000 is the most stressful driving experience since my 2000 Jaguar S-type.They just told me that their is no official similar complaint in North America, but before that, the people working there shared with me that the company knows but has not made anything official because they need some more time. Now that I made the official complaint, they know nothing and say there is nothing wrong with the car? Are they ** crazy! Im ready to stand in front of the dealership with a lemon the size of the car and ** it. Not only are they lying to my face but they dont mind putting my family in harms way until the marketing department and engineers find a cost effective way out. Its sad how the dealers service people. All suffered memory loss at the same time I wanted a solution or the problem fixed. They say everything is okay in USA/CANADA. I guess just like the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. Great job, Lexus! You have unbeatable customer care with a ** product.

I loved my Lex. It never let me down. There are lots of options with this brand of car from family cars to SUVs. Its very reliable and trustworthy. I know when I put my grandkids in my car, they are safe. Lexus offers sleek aerodynamic designs. A spacious comfortable interior is important to me, and Ive always had the passenger and trunk space I need when traveling. I bought my car used, so Im not sure about the upgrade and personalization options available through Lexus. I do have friends whove purchased new however, and they never had any complaints. My Lexus has a very spacious interior. I never have any problem taking my grandkids and all of their necessities in my car. Everything fits perfectly with room to spare.

I purchased my 2919 RX450H in December of 2019 off the showroom floor with 250 miles. The first year of having my car, my car shut down on me two times. Both times I was on my way to a patients home. While in route to my clients home I started receiving Hybrid System Malfunction warnings, Pre-Collision Malfunction and Check Engine, immediately after that I received a warning to pull over to a safe place immediately and within .03 miles it automatically shut off without me being able to pull over to a safe place. By the second time, I went into the dealership and I spoke to the GM at the Lexus dealership in Orland about the car being very unsafe for me to drive because I never know when it’s going to just shut down on me and that I would like for Lexus to give me another car exactly like mine. I informed him the only reason I chose Lexus over the other high end cars was due to its safety history. He informed me that the dealership aren’t able to mark my car as a lemon write off only Lexus corporation have the legal right to do that. I contacted Lexus corporation. Filled out all the required paperwork along with the service that had been performed on my vehicle due to my shutting off while driving. I later received a letter stating they reviewed my case. Could not mark my car as a lemon. I’m here to say that my car just shut down on me again for the 3rd time for the exact same reason with only 20k miles on it!! I spoke to the GM at the Lexus dealership in Orland again informing him how upset I am and this is unacceptable and how I can’t believe Lexus isn’t standing behind their brand considering how they brag as being ranked as one of the safest cars on the road! Lexus doesn’t stand by their name and don’t care about their customers safety!! I do not recommend Lexus to anyone if this is how they stand behind their brand!!! I feel like Lexus IS saying “you’re on your own and deal with it”!

I recently had the experience of being denied repairs of my Lexus (VIN 2T2B
I recently had the experience of being denied repairs of my Lexus (VIN 2T2BK1BA7AC015824). A known problem exists in the steering column of my particular model, a 2010-2011 Lexus RX350. So, this parts failing falls under the following: (1) a known problem by Lexus and (2) a very new car still under warranty. The only caveat to this situation is that I travel for work, and I spend some of my time in Minsk. I have a Lexus sedan here in the United States, and only just recently took the RX 350 to be my car in Minsk. There, I began to discover the steering noise issue. I understand that the standard procedure for Lexus would be to only cover warranty issues within the United States.I personally feel that this is a special case; I will have to have the vehicle repaired in Europe, so I am prepared to pay for the labor through a Lexus dealer, but I strongly feel that the $1700, plus part I had to order to replace an existing flaw in my Lexus, should not be paid by me. As mentioned, I purchased this Lexus in the United States, I still own another Lexus in the United States, and one day, I will return this Lexus to the United States. My request to have this part paid for has been denied. I find this very hard to believe. The trend with many large companies is a disregard towards customer service that will build brand loyalty. I did not think Lexus was one of these companies, and I am deeply disappointed. It has been my understanding that Lexus leads the industry in retaining the highest percentage of vehicle owners. Neal Oddes, director of product research at J.D. Power and Associates said that, By satisfying its customers on many different levels, Lexus consistently enjoys high-retention rates and “customer retention is extremely valuable in the auto industry because it costs manufacturers less to keep existing customers than to attract new ones, and strong retention fosters favorable word of mouth. Why now would Lexus want to risk its word of mouth reputation in my case? I have a friend who has been at war with GM over the poorest of customer relations efforts and vehicle issues; I personally found it comforting in owning a Lexus. I do not have to deal with such customer disregard, and would readily make this known. Now, I no longer have comfort in owning a Lexus. Where is the world class customer service that creates retention? Maybe you should all take a moment and read the following article on customer service. I understand that this issue is falling under what might be considered special circumstances; however, I had believed Lexus would treat me as a loyal customer, not as an invaluable statistic. This is all very unfortunate, and on principle alone, I am not going to stop pursuing a resolve to this situation. I know there has to be someone in the Lexus organization who cares enough to spend $1700 of Lexus money in order to preserve a reputation that has likely taken years and billions of dollars to build.A colleague of mine recently shared a negative experience he had with a large Canadian airline. He had purchased a ticket to return home last year for the Christmas holiday but was unable to do so because of medical reasons. It was his understanding that the value of the ticket would be honored for one year from the scheduled date of travel. However, the airlines policy was actually to credit the value of the ticket for one year from the purchase date. This information wasnt printed on his ticket, and when he contacted the airline, he spoke with four members of its customer service department, including a senior manager, and received four different explanations of the airlines policy and his possible remedies.During a time following the horrific events of September 2001, my colleague thought this airline, now more than ever (especially after requesting government relief due to lost revenue), would bend over backward to satisfy him, and keep him as a regular customer. Airlines were slashing fares as much as 50 percent to entice fearful passengers to once again take to the skies. He was utterly shocked and appalled. However, he experienced the lengths to which this airline went in the opposite direction. Each of the four representatives gave four greatly varied definitions of the airlines refund and rescheduling policy. Each apologized for his inconvenience yet repeatedly told him what they could not - and would not - do for him. In the short term, the immediate savings by the airline were $400, the value of the unused ticket. The net loss over the long term, however, will be much, much greater. Not only will he and his family never use this airline (they spend about $3,000 annually) they are so furious that theyve told many friends about this experience. Not surprisingly, everyone theyve told has been shocked and appalled, also, saying they, too, will never fly with this carrier in the future.Understanding that the customer is the source of a companys revenue, it logically follows that every customer must be made as happy as possible, especially so during an industry-wide crisis of historic magnitude. Seeing as its not the owner of a company that routinely interacts with customers, but rather the sales staff, operators, customer service representatives and et cetera have direct contact. It must be a clearly understood rule that the customer must always feel right. The customer has to be treated in a way that sets a company apart from competitors. If a company successfully merges this philosophy with a superior product or service, it can earn customer loyalty and in turn, become profitable. Case in point: Nordstrom. A Nordstrom customers experience provides a perfect counter to the aforementioned airlines woeful customer service practices. For years, the story has circulated about a man who had returned tires to a Nordstrom store, and it provides an excellent example of how to exercise a customer-first approach to business. The story is true. Nordstrom built a store in Alaska at a location that had previously included a tire store. A man, failing to realize the tire store no longer existed, brought car tires into Nordstrom, and asked for a refund. Despite the companys position as a clothier (seemingly everyone knows the only rubber Nordstroms sells is on the bottom of sneakers), the sales associate nonetheless issued some type of refund or store credit, thus satisfying the customer. When people talk about this story, many cant remember if it was a man or a woman, a young or old person, but they always remember that it was Nordstrom who put its customer first.Although this example is extreme, and I dont suggest that a company make a habit of issuing refunds, for merchandise it doesnt sell, the underlying principle stands: For long-term prosperity and patron loyalty, a customer must always feel right, even when shes wrong. Even if a company such as the airline in question doesnt want to adhere to this same level of customer service, or more likely, doesnt believe it can afford to, the only question I would ask its top brass is, Can you afford not to? Word of mouth is by far the single most important marketing vehicle a company can hope for. Think of what the word of the mouth may do for this airlines long-term outlook. Not only has the airline lost loyal customers and likely many more once this story spreads, but more importantly, the employees who initially offered the incorrect information to a loyal customer and then blamed the customer himself for acting on the information he received, are still employed. How much more inaccurate information these employees are going to disperse, and what will be the resulting net loss?Follow Nordstroms lead, not the woeful path cut by the airline. Before the next customer crisis arises at your company, I urge you to ask yourself the following questions, so you are prepared to handle the situation appropriately: How does your company resolve customer disputes, concerns, questions or problems? Do your people automatically go on the defensive, citing policies, procedures and counting warranty periods to the day? Is there a mission statement or customer policy in place that governs all aspects of customer service, including conflict resolution? You cant put the onus on your customers to get it right every time. Too many companies focus on the reasons why they cant help a customer, rather than offering solutions to help fix his problem. The reality is, problems will arise. The problems are not the challenge. The challenge is responding to these problems effectively; these responses help determine a companys ultimate success or failure.

I am the owner of my third Lexus ES 350. I anticipated buying my fourth in the next couple of years. I have purchased a Lexus almost exclusively because of its reputation for quality. As I am often in my car alone, the idea of having a car that will not leave me stranded by the side of the road is paramount. I noticed initially, however, with my most recent car purchased new, the 2014 model, that it was not as quiet as my first Lexus.I let that past not attributing it to a decline in overall quality. However, I was wholly unprepared for the wholesale failure without warning of my transmission after only 74,000 miles leaving me stranded on the side of the road. I was lucky to make it to a surface street as the failure occurred on the highway. This was a car, as was the case with each of my prior purchases, that had each and every service recommended, all done by a Lexus dealer. However, I could have saved myself a tremendous amount of money, both in terms of initial outlay and maintenance cost, with a much cheaper car and received the same result. This is my LAST Lexus and last Toyota made car.

Lexus is aware of frequent occurrences with RX 330 back door 1/4 window mol
Lexus is aware of frequent occurrences with RX 330 back door 1/4 window molding falling off. It happens for no other reason other than poor design. I had many vehicles in my life, but regardless of age of those vehicles, did not had a case of loosing not damaged body parts. When this happened to my Lexus RX 330, I vent to my Lexus dealership (where I purchased new this vehicle) and learned that Lexus will cover the window but not the labor for replacement as the vehicle is not under warranty. The tiny shiny molding which was not attached in proper way is not made as a spare part- the whole window has to be replaced???I did call the Lexus satisfaction line and a Case manager called me the next day to tell me the same thing - my vehicles body part falling off is not covered under warranty. I asked her what is the next that I will loose while driving. And I thought the LEXUS makes high quality vehicles and will be doing right thing to maintain its reputation. I have two Lexus vehicles, which I purchased new, but after this I dont think I will continue to be their customer.

We currently have a Lexus RX350 F-Sport and just had to use roadside assist
We currently have a Lexus RX350 F-Sport and just had to use roadside assistance yesterday. Not only did my husbands vehicle just die and leaving him stranded on the side of the road, but when the roadside assistance came to help. They ended up towing his vehicle to a dealership and the closest one to us is 2 hours away. So it is not fixed and we are having issue with them getting it back to us. Mind you we have no loaner car or anything, so how is he suppose to get his car that is 2 hours away?? We called Lexus customer service multiple times today and can’t get anywhere. They should have told us if it was towed to the dealership that they wouldn’t bring it back, you would think after you pay all this money on a new vehicle that we have had for 1 year and is under warranty that there would be something in place for this situation instead everyone is clueless.I have a Cadillac and was looking to get a new car next month and thought about getting a Lexus, but let me tell you I will hands down stay with Cadillac just because of the outstanding customer service I get. I tried telling my husband to go with Cadillac, but he thought surely Lexus IS suppose to be a luxury vehicle so will have their crap together and he was wrong. We are turning this car in as soon as we can and going with a car company that cares about their customers!

Its funny how Lexus is marketing this brand as a luxury car but forgets to stand behind the cheap quality product when a problem arises. At 10,000 miles Ive ended up paying for an alignment as the car was pulling badly to the side. Bear in mind the car was never involved in any collision. The alignment didnt solve the problem and the car is still pulling. At 20,000 miles Im ending up with the breaks at 0!!! How is that even possible for a quality car? No consideration for customers concerns or complaint. Now I know why Lexus is not willing to cover anything under their warranty which proves that Lexus is fully aware of the poor quality, cheap parts used for their cars! SHAME ON YOU LEXUS! YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT A LUXURY BRAND!

I am not employed by Lexus or trying to help them in any way. I am a business owner that has been in the market for a luxury car. I love this website and feel it has prevented me from making a huge financial mistake! I have always wanted an Audi and was close to purchasing their flagship A8. After reading the nightmares of Audi ownership, I started investigating Mercedes and BMW on Consumer Affairs. To make this short, the complaints on Lexus (other than an apparent common problem with their dash cracking) are NOTHING compared to the three German manufacturers! Im seeing complaints on Lexus for using a quart of oil at 120k miles? Transmission complains at 60k? Just saying, read the problems other luxury owners are having, you will feel much better! I still dont know what I will end up dropping $70-$90k on, Lexus seems kind of boring to me, but based on the complaints I am reading about them, I feel it would be a much more reliable option than most..

I’m pretty bummed my Lexus RX 350. I bought it at Lexus of Naperville in 2013. It has 54,000 miles now and needs a new engine. It blew a head gasket with no warning, It’s out of warranty and Lexus corporate office denied any assistance. $10,000 worth of work??? I’ve keep up with the maintenance. Had 1 oil change outside of Lexus because their mechanics were on strike. Sorry for the long text. Needed to vent to someone. I’ll have to get it fixed but I’m no longer a Lexus fan. The only good thing is the service Manager Mike really did his best to help???

Lexus 2010 RX450 - The front seats have been cracking/splitting for some period of time. Upon discovering that this wearing was not normal, I took the car to the Scanlon/Lexus Ft. Myers, FL. I cant tell with accuracy when this cracking started, but I am 100% certain that it started well within the warranty period. Even though the car was only 4 months out of the warranty. This is my third and LAST Lexus. They refused to do anything about it. They did call in the regional Lexus rep who basically would not give me any satisfaction in trying to get the seats repaired. I reported this problem to the Lexus corporate office in May 2015, incident #**. Their attitude was what have you done for us lately in terms of taking the car in for service to a Lexus dealer. I have spent over $128,000 in the past 10 years on Lexus cars, but I will not spend another penny on repairing a problem that is the result of poor materials or workmanship. I will be submitting a complaint with the local BBB, ASAP.
