We're talking Dom Toretto and his Dodge Charger, Eleanor, the Ford Mustang from Gone In 60 Seconds, and who could forget the stunning 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible from the 1988 multi-award-winning motion picture Rain Man? Legendary Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman is selling his classic Buick at the Bonhams Scottsdale Auction on January 27 at an estimated $150,000 to $250,000 (or about eight 2022 Buick Encore crossovers). Hoffman acquired the Buick Roadmaster after filming ended on Rain Man in 1988. In the film, the car (one of two used in the movie) is described by Hoffman's character, the autistic savant brother Raymond as "a 1949 Buick Roadmaster straight eight, fireball eight. Only 8,095 production models." The Buick Roadmaster was restyled for 1949 and featured a power output of 150 horsepower and a top speed of 110 mph. Unique styling elements such as the 'observation deck windshield', and the four 'Ventiports' on the front fenders gave the Roadmaster a look like no other at the time. The car offered for sale here was restored by Larry Payne after filming ended and made various appearances at Buick car club events but has rarely been spotted in more recent years. "The Buick's been in storage too long," says Hoffman. "It should be driven, enjoyed, and cherished." Jakob Greisen, Bonhams Vice President, said: "This Roadmaster presents an extraordinary, truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own the third character from the classic Rain Man movie. We are honored to have been entrusted with this special motorcar and are sure that it will be a hit with Buick enthusiasts and fans of Mr. Hoffman and Rain Man alike." A pre-sale viewing will take place on Tuesday 25 January, and Wednesday 26 January between 9 AM and 6 PM at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa. As of May 14th, 2021 it has been at the Belleville, IL Cardinal Buick dealership shop due to a check engine light that occurred that day. After 5 days theyve yet to call me to tell me whats going on nor how long it will take to fix or replace. I only drove 960 miles and filled the tank twice since I got it. The car upon starting made a rumbly sound shaking the left side of the car violently and the check engine light went on immediately after. Not to mention the car was sounding like a 20 year old car a few weeks prior to that but no light ever went on for that reason. I never even had that car running above 3,000rpm so its not like I was abusing it.I figure it was just because its a 3 cylinder. It sounds like a rattling can after starting it. Way too loud for a new car. I noticed there was a bolt missing on the turbo block which when I checked to see if anything liquid was leaking under the hood from the rumble. The shocks and struts are terrible, too. You go over a slight asphalt repair in the road at 10 miles per hour and youre glad you got a seat belt on. Imagine what its like on the highway. They also sold me one with a flawed paint job with poorly done spot touch ups. Theres a huge scratch that looks like some moron scratched it with a key or snow scrapper by the driver-side rear window and a huge notch by the hood like a mechanic dropped a tool on it. Why a mechanic would be under the hood of an unpurchased car with 12 miles on it is something to wonder. Makes me think some previous test driver messed it up and they tried to fix it.I didnt see any of this when I test drove it due to the dealership holding us hostage there for 8 hours with our credit credentials. By the time we actually got to test drive, it was already getting dark. This is a common theme for this dealership I later found out. I asked if they could give me a replacement when I took it in to have it looked at and they said they cant because its already financed. Translation: We know we sold you trash, that we tried to mask a previously damaged car as new that we failed to report to carfax or authorities, and were not taking it back because that admits guilt and we can be legally liable and subject to possible civil or criminal charges punishable by fines or imprisonment. They didnt even give me a loaner car while its being in their shop.Im stuck paying $25,000 on this overpriced garbage thanks to the useless Lemon Law of Illinois because it has to break a certain number of times in a 12 month period. New cars shouldnt be failing at all...period. If it breaks early on that means somebody at the factory didnt do something right and theres obviously more problems lying in wait soon due to lack of quality control. I dont want it back. I only made two payments on it and it failed. I dont trust any of their products or dealerships now. Maybe I can sell it to an art museum if Im stuck with it. I took my car to a non GM dealer and was told it was something going on with my engine. I took my car back only to be told that it was my timing chain after I raised all kinds of hell about the erroneous diagnostics. After that repair, maybe a month later my car starts overheating and I was told that it was my water pump and that was going to be an additional $1200! I am so sick of this car that it is pathetic! I thought about trading the car in towards the purchase of another but with all the invested money on repairs, I feel like Im losing! I would never buy another Buick. I own a Lexus and BMW and have never had these kinds of problems. I love the body style and luxury of the car but the mechanical issues are too much for me. It seems that the quality of these parts are sub-par and below industry standards, just listen out for all the recalls that GM lists every month seems like! Imagine the other numerous issues that get swept under the rug only to be footed by the consumers. GM will lose a lot of its potential customer base with these mechanical concerns because anyone that asks about the performance of my car gets an earful thats surely able to deter them from buying one!

The sales person provided the normal sales pitch, but neglected to tell us the car he was selling to us have been used as a loaner to folks who brought their car into the dealership for service (it had 5,654 miles on it). By the time we found this out, we had already made up our minds, the car we just took out for a test drive was the one we wanted. This was just before the dealership was to lock up for the Labor Day weekend, and we were supposed to come back the day after Labor Day and complete the transaction, which we did.Day after Labor Day - after completing the paper work to buy the car, we left with the new car. After about a week or two of use, we felt the car rode very rough, and more like a truck than a car. Unfortunately, we had to leave town until after the Christmas Holiday season, so we let the situation go until after the first of the year. Sometime in January 2015, I started writing emails directly to GM. GM responded first by having me take the car in for a check-up to be sure it didnt have a problem, which it did not in their eyes. It then instructed the dealer to contact me to see what could be done.Feb. 25, 2015 - the dealership did ask us to come in, and I met with the sales manager who turned us over to the sales person who sold us the initial car. Since I had been told they would not change the tires, I asked what it would cost to give them the car back in turn for buying the same car, but move up one year and one model (i.e. buy a 2015 Buick LaCrosse model Premium) with a better suspension system. The sales person took what seemed to be an hour, and came back with a figure of $14,141.31 in addition to the $37,050 we had already paid (including my trade-in). To that we said no way and left the dealership. Feeling there was no way we could receive any kind of justification from the dealership, we left. This was 2/25/2015, and we stopped trying to get them to do something ever since. The car is a nice car, but it still rides rough! Even with a tire reduction in air pressure! We just flat-out gave up! Hereafter, after owning a Buick over 20 years and thinking very highly of it, I doubt seriously if I will ever buy another or even a GM car in the future!

The cars I have shopped for seem to have some nice upscale features such as high quality speakers, leather seats, rear view cameras (some) and the seats are pretty easy to adjust. There are some extra sound, screen, and radio features that seemed interesting. Buick seems to have average space for passengers. The driver and passenger seats feel a bit roomier, but the back seats on the model I bought are a bit smaller. Still comfortable though.

The cost was $1500 and that was with discount. Also, the oxygen sensor had to be replaced (separate issue). The car is rusting and the paint is peeling off. Whats really scary is that I had minimal indication of the radiator problem, no warning lights/check engine light went on. I just discovered fluid leaking on my driveway. The engine wasnt running bad. But had I not acted quickly, within another hundred miles my engine would have blown up had the fluid got in it. This is ridiculous for a car with only 76k miles on it. I paid almost $20k for this car. I used it in December 2005 and have only put 50k miles on it! I will never buy another GM car again, ever! Its sad too because my dad retired from GM. Next time, I am buying Japanese.

However I did have several manufacturer issues. In the first 2 years I had to 1. Force dealership to replace windshield because there was literally a full hand print within the windshield (during manufacturing someone touched either the glass or the safety plastic thats inside before glass was finished or fused together. It was right in my line of sight. Dealership went round and round finally they admitted they could see the issue and agreed to replace under warranty. 2. Rear window replaced. A strip in the heating element stopped working. Dealership had nerve to ask me if I could live with it... REALLY?? Its unset warranty of course I want it replaced. The factory paint job was sub par. I didnt realize it at first but it became obvious quickly. The bottom part of rear wheel wells behind where you catch ask the runoff and splash from tires started fading right away. Hood, bumper, roof all chipped way too easily... Regardless of these things I loved the Verano. It was totaled in an accident in 2015. I immediately bought a 2015 Verano. This one was way better, loved the build in wifi/ 4G LTE. It also came with advanced safety features and improved touchscreen infotainment.Only had 1 flaw that I didnt even realize. When I had it at a different dealership for oil change, I was going to buy touch up paint. The service manager was looking at my car and noticed few spots not quite right. Turned out after they flew someone from their GM headquarters out to Portland Oregon. He confirmed that my car was one of a select batch that had defective paint jobs. So they put me in a loaner for almost 3 weeks and my Verano had to be completely repainted. Since they contract that out, I was lucky enough to get a way better paint job than manufacturer. So as of just 2 months ago I finally got the car I always wanted but its usually way too expensive for my taste lol. I saw a 2014 Buick LaCrosse fully loaded and a premium pearl diamond paint job heads up display. This car was $47, 000 brand new. It was a one owner lease and had incredibly low miles on it. It still looked and smelled new. They were selling it for $21.000. I didnt hesitate I knew it wouldnt last long.. So far Im in heaven with my LaCrosse. I really cant find anything wrong with it. Its powerful, very quiet, feels sporty as well as elegant and comfortable... FINGERS CROSSED! So, obviously Ive had opportunity to change brands but I really do like Buick. I had never driven or owned one before 2012. Unless Buick introduces another great model I really want. I may most likely change to a different look and feel. I hope this helps anyone with questions or doubts.

The dealer had been trying to get that part from GM for weeks but no idea when they will get it. The dealer asked me to help by calling Buick Customer Service to escalate the problem of getting parts to the dealer. I have left messages every other day for over a week now and twice requesting a Supervisor but I still havent received a response from Buick. My car has been at the dealer a month and a half now, I have no car, no loaner, and still no response from Buick customer care. I recommend choosing a car made by a different company because what good is a warranty when they cant get parts to fix your car and nobody cares enough to return a phone call. Not a good company.

Due to being parked on gravel, rust has taken over the undercarriage. I need to replace the car not because of mechanical issues, but because it is rusting away. I like this car so much that I am seeking another one. **, my mechanic told me to stick with the 3600 Series motor and do get a turbocharged one. He said that you have to change the oil in the turbo unit. I agreed. I no longer have the need for speed. Im 67, I want comfort. This car never failed me. I use to drive 100 miles a day back and forth to work. It got 30mpg on the highway and 20-22 in the city. I drove mostly on the highway. The car took me to Indiana twice, Tennessee twice without missing a beat. I know how to parallel park. I can turn on and off my headlights and wipers. The problems I see here are people want all the bells and whistles. Well, there is a price to pay for all that.

After retrieving the error codes which show that cylinders 1, 3 & 5 are misfiring she contacts the dealer who asks if this was the 1st time this has happened, to which she answers yes. The dealer then states that this is a common occurrence & that this GM 3.6 liter V6 engine misfires but not to the point of creating a mechanical issue. After doing some research I come to find out what appears to be plenty of reports/complaints of the exact issues (& plenty more) that shes having.The check engine light eventually goes off the following day just to come back on about a week later but this time causing the vehicle to completely shut off & losing the power steering while navigating a left turn onto a busy freeway on ramp. Once again its the same error codes so after advising her she contacts Buicks Customer Care 800 number to assist her getting this issue resolved. After being reassured by a supervisor she makes an appt to drop her car off & be placed in a loaner. On the day the car was dropped off no loaner was available until almost end of business day at which time shes told shell be charged another hour of diagnostic fees ($119) because after having the vehicle from 8am they were not able to diagnose the problem but do state that theyve discovered what appears to be rodent damage, yes rodent damage to a wire harness. What they dont realize is that I removed the top cover that protects the cylinders to inspect & take a few pictures prior to the vehicle being arranged for drop off. As a foot note the vehicle is parked in a garage in Goodyear, AZ every night where there is no rodent problem.She is now waiting to hear back from Yates Buick. The vehicle is also experiencing transmission issues (delay in shifting/jolting) as well as an odor from the AC unit, the driver seat doesnt always recognize one of the programmed memory settings & although the heated side mirrors function is turned off, when the vehicle is started through the remote start feature they turn on. This vehicle has 54,000 miles & is in great exterior condition. Hoping that GM (Buick) stands behind their name & brings the vehicle back to a reliable working condition that one would expect for the price one shells out. Stay tuned for the outcome.

The Regal is nimble, agile, and comfortable even on long drives. Sound system is ok (underpowered) and I have the premium bose system (actually every option available).The bad… After about 6 months, the dash started squeaking (for lack of a better term) and rattling and I found that the trim ring around the instrument cluster is seemingly just pressed in, therefore the two plastic pieces hit each other at certain vibration thresholds. Also the center console below the radio and controls is pressed in, probably using some kind of sticky tape that is not very sticky, and it squeaks, ANNOYINGLY.The Gracenote audio software seems to take everything available in the usb, sd card, and smartphone audio inventory and initializes it each and every startup because if you play music from say the phone, then get out of the car, say to shop for a few, then get back in, it cant remember where you were at. So many pain in the ** things with the implementation of the interface that I cant believe it was actually released to the public. Seems like it was developed in a vacuum, meaning without any input from people that use media devices. A child could have tested these things. I also added about 150 lbs of batting in different areas of the car (hollow spots). Youd be amazed at what GM calls soundproofing or sound dampening.The Regal, while it looks nice and there are several other nice things I could say about it, such as whoever designed the exterior and specd the wheels and tires as well as the ground clearance in the front (so you dont rip off very expensive plastic underneath the car when parking) did a good job, also the steering wheel is a great improvement over the 2013… Anyway, one of my real concerns with quite a few cars is that it is 2015 and we still have vehicles that have chrome in either the WRONG place, or angled poorly and at certain times of the day, practically blind anyone in the front seats. This isnt just for short periods of time, say when the sun is directly overhead, or at exactly 6pm pst in the bay area California, no, this is most of the day. It was so bad I removed mine, shift trim and painted it.Follow up pics for my review showing the materials used to dampen sound in the Regal cabin. Just a small example, there are several others. Look at the little accordion style batting used in what is a very large space inside the rear trunk covers.

I am disappointed that GM would not approve for a complete transmission replacement as opposed to repair. My 2011 Buick LaCrosse was the first (and last) Buick I have owned. The car is really attractive (on the surface) but has been a nightmare of mechanical and technical issues since the first day. On the day I picked it up it was raining really heavily and the windshield kept fogging up so badly that I couldnt see where I was going. Come to find out there was a recall on this, but the dealer didnt fix it before delivering the car. Within a week the drivers seat started to make this loud squeaking sound whenever I drove around a corner. After a half dozen attempts the seat has still never been fixed. Then the engine light started coming one every few weeks. This was supposed to be because of some software issue, but everything they fixed it never lasted and a few weeks later the light was back on. After 4 trips to the dealer it was finally resolved... I think. The transmission slips whenever I take off going up a hill, the front end has never been aligned correctly and the car drifts to the left, the paint is peeling off the rear bumper sensors, the transmissions makes a whining sound every time it shifts from 3rd to 4th gear and the list goes on and on. The dealer has been completely worthless in trying to fix any of these issues. Buick sent their regional manager down to my dealer to tell me the drivers seat squeaks because Im too fat. I weigh 195lbs which is not skinny, but Ive seen the other people who drive Buicks and they are not skinny either. Buicks customer service line has been completely worthless as well. Their solution was to offer me free oil changes for the life of my car... Wow! How about standing behind the car and fixing the problems? Ive been a lifelong GM customer (mostly Chevrolet) but have to say after this experience I dont think Ill make that mistake again.

So I will say this. People stay away. This cars are junk. They will sell you a certified lemon. It will say certified car which is suppose to mean as good as any new car. It should really have stated certified lemon garbage rolling nightmare, POS that no one will ever fix because they dont know the issue. Do not contact Buick Corp because you will be wasting your time as they true just want you to keep bringing your car in replace parts that shouldnt need replacing and by time its all said and done you could have purchased a new car because by time you truly find the problem you will have spent more money fixing the rolling POS that they certified.

My car has a fine appearance and it has wonderful features that I like which I prefer over the other features of some models. The car capacitys all right even though it doesnt hold a lot, on a scale of 1-10 (10 being satisfying) I would rate the capacity 8 out of 10. I love the upgrade and the options they offer. Its easier and safer to use with every upgrade it keeps getting. Making more people switch over, this is one thing I love about it.

About 5 minutes later, I went back into the garage and once again the fan started again! I opened the car door and my inside fan was blowing at high speed. I came in the house, got my car keys and locked the car. Now it isnt turning on. It concerns me as I know most cars a fan will run after you have turned it off but never have I seen a cars fan turn back on. Anyone have this issue?

It is not as sleek as I would like but that is due more to the age of the car than to the workmanship. I overall like the style and appearance of this type of car. I have electric doors and automatic locks are not present but that is due to age of the vehicle. This vehicle will seat 6 people comfortably which was great. Yet if there are only 2 people it is comfortable and effective than I thought it would be. It is good that it has child proof doors.

The first time it came on, it turned out that it needed a new timing chain and 4 new valves. The second time it came on, the fuel injectors needed to be cleaned. Then, time went by and after five months, the engine light came on for the third time because the car needed a new fuel pump. So far, everything has been fine with the car.

They make lots of other models, but nothing can hold a candle to the Roadmaster... I had to go to Lincoln to find one almost as good as the Roadmaster. The car was elegantly styled, with comfortable seats, power steering, power brakes, a headliner that was firmly anchored to the ceiling of the car, front and rear defoggers, and heated rear window plates that would quickly melt ice and snow. The 8 cylinder engine had more than enough power to tackle the steep mountain roads, even in the Tetons. Also, the audio system was superb and an upgrade would have been a waste of money. Although rated as a 6 passenger vehicle, the nice middle arm that folded down in front made it essentially a 5 passenger vehicle... but 6 guys of my build (6 ft. and 350 lbs) could easily fit.

In addition there are plenty of seats, vents for air, and windows to individually control. All the electronics work and function for my needs with nothing I dont know how to use. However, Im not a huge fan of the blind spots in the car as Im sure design wise could have been avoided a bit more. I also wish that the car would have more cup holders in it. I believe there are only 2 for a car that is able to seat up to 5. Lastly, I wish my model had a truck door that could open and close on its own so putting bags and groceries in the car would be easier. Other than that, I like the size of the car being bigger to be able to carry lots of things and match equal in size to other cars on the road. I liked the fact that for a bigger SUV, this car gets great gas mileage as I drive long distances often.

They persistently denied that the procedure caused the transmission failure or even that they should have seen the problem when doing the fluid work. They charged over 3600 for the new transmission on top of what I had already paid for the fluid. After I complained to GM about this, they contacted the dealers customer relations department. The decision was to refund half of the cost of the new transmission.The dealers representative said the refund was coming because I had been a good customer, still not admitting the obvious cause. The check was to be sent in about a week. Nearly three weeks have passed and no refund has been received. Please note this review concerns the above incident, not my overall satisfaction with my Buick. As far as I know, installation of the new transmission was successful.

I had my fuel pump replaced, had to have my fuel drained, lines cleaned and because of the E85 gas I used Im still having issues. The dealership advised me not to use E85 again. GM has a bulletin out since Jan. 30, 2017 saying E85 is damaging these vehicles but REFUSED to help me when I filed a complaint. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM GM. They will not back up their product ESPECIALLY since this is a mistake on their part! I will be contacting legal help concerning this matter.

GM should take responsibility for this faulty part and issue a recall. After the local dealership quoted me the price, I call GM corporate to complain. There are thousands of complaints on the 2008/2009 Enclave on several blogs & forums. GM took my complaint and contacted the local dealership and came back with - 30% off the rebuild with 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. Please note the rebuild will ONLY replace the broken parts. All the other OLD parts will not placed back in.

Paint is worn off in 4 spots on my 2017 Buick Enclave. Not stone chips, but 2 sections of paint missing. I have pictures of another Enclave in for service at the dealership that has paint missing in the same exact spots. Buick wont cover this, saying that its because we drive it on a dirt road. So, buyer beware... If you live on or drive on a dirt road - BUICKS ARE NOT TO BE DRIVEN ON DIRT... DO NOT BUY ONE. (Our Chevy Cruze and 2 different GMC Acadias that had 75,000 miles on it never had any paint missing.)

Buick has basically only cars and CUVs, not a variety of either. But what they do have they are good at. However, they are missing several models of cars that seem comparable to others. Cadillac had the ultra luxury space, so it makes it unclear exactly what Buick is going for. We purchased the LaCrosse and were very happy with the appeal overall. The color options were excellent and the curves were attractive. Overall the car had a modern, sleek, expensive look. Several personalization options were excellent, specifically some of the technology options. However, I feel that the Buick is lacking some of the more innovative safety features that other vehicles offer as options. While it doesnt have any huge passenger vehicles, it carries the popular and necessary options that carry between 5 and 8 people, which fits most families.
