Bonds Aston Martin DB5 Sells For Over $3 Million
Posted On: October 2, 2022

Last month, we told you about a very special Aston Martin DB5 that was headed to auction. It was the stunt car from No Time To Die, the 25th Bond film, and Daniel Craig's final. Now, the hammer has fallen, and the car didn't exactly sell for cheap. The sale price was a whopping $3,228,444 USD.

rnThankfully, it didn't all go to Christie's, the auction house that hosted the car. Nor did the proceeds go to EON Productions, the owners of this, and several other cars that were auctioned. Instead, the proceeds from the DB5, as well as a DBS Superleggera and a V8 Vantage, went to charity. The DB5 itself was one of eight built. In case you were curious, some of these also used the engine and gearbox from an E46 BMW M3 (check out the shifter in the pic above). This one featured a number of fully operational gadgets. It packs the famous rotating number plate, retractable headlights with pop-out MGs, and firing prop bombs.

For those who don't remember, the car was used in the film shortly after Bond visits Vesper's grave, after which he and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) must escape from pursuers through the streets of Matera, Italy. This is also the scene where Bond rips donuts in the DB5 while shredding pursuers with the car's machine guns. Marek Reichman Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin said: "We are delighted to celebrate this 60th anniversary with the sale of a truly unique Aston Martin model that we created for No Time To Die. It is fantastic that the sale of this special car will now hugely benefit several good causes which are close to our heart, playing our own part in the long-standing tradition of the James Bond franchise supporting charitable causes."rnThe huge sum will go to four charities in total: The Pince's Trust, which works with UK youth, The Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund, which serves current and former members of UK intelligence services, and three charities supporting past and current members of the UK special forces. Also sold at Christie's was a screen-used Aston Martin V8 Vantage driven by Craig. The car was intended to be similar to the one from 1987's The Living Daylights, which starred Timothy Dalton as Bond. Also sold was a brand new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 007 Edition. This car is one of only 25 created to celebrate the use of the car in No Time To Die.

This one, which has etched signatures of Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and Lashana Lynch, sold for $445,965 USD. All three sales' proceeds went to charity, with the Superleggera's proceeds going to the Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales.

Dream car but straight out of the factory the door shuts and bonnet are out of alignment and the car rear quarters and boot has obviously had paint rectification as evidence of overspray, rough masking edges and silicon inclusion with paint thicknesses on car ranging from 120-290 microns (all evidenced and reported by an independant engineer).Dealer (Jardine Motors / Lancasters) has been worse than useless and made the matter worse by burning through the paint in three places. They also confirmed in writing and verbally they go through a check process at the factory however a large number of new cars coming through to us will still need some form of paint rectification or polishing/buffing before handover .Whatever you do make sure you go over the car with a fine tooth comb and DO NOT just assume it is a brand new car everything will be perfect, because ours is now going to court.

Terrible terrible vehicle, experience and customer service. Having bought a brand new Vantage I have endured no enjoyment whatsoever. Fault after fault have become only too familiar. Aston Martin have refused to assist with rectifying any of my issues. If you buy an Aston Martin beware you will not receive assistance from the manufacturer. Passenger door has drooped and now chipped. Clicking noises coming from gearbox. Red airbag warning light. EDF warning light. Whistling noises through windows at speed. Steering wheel pointing at 11 oclock. All of the above within 1 month of owning the vehicle. Quality control clearly were not focused on the day my vehicles build was complete. If you notice faults within the first 14 days then return the vehicle immediately to dealer. BEWARE!!!
