7 Things About Mazda You Probably Didnt Know

Mazda has a deep history, so we'll start throwing facts at you in the introduction. The company was founded in Hiroshima in 1920, making it over 100 years old. However, it wasn't founded as Mazda or started just by the legendary Jujiro Matsuda. It began as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Company and made artificial cork. That didn't go so well, though, and the company started to make machine tools instead in the late 1920s. As Toyo Kogyo, the company moved into making the Mazda-Go auto rickshaw. During World War II, Toyo Kogyo was pushed into producing weapons for the military. After the war, the Mazda-Go auto-rickshaw was the first sighting of the name Mazda, and it was used for every vehicle the company produced until it became the official brand name. It wasn't until much later that the company officially became Mazda. The name comes from Ahura Mazda, the god of harmony, intelligence, and wisdom. The name Mazda is close to the pronunciation of its main founder, and the Japanese company is named as such - Matsuda Kabushiki-gaisha. 1. Mazda's First Passenger CarrnUntil 1960, Mazda's automotive output consisted of motorbikes and small trucks, all with varying amounts of success. The company's first car was the Mazda R360, a two-door four-seater coupe that dominated the kei car market for years after its release. It was a massive step for Mazda and used the latest in technology (such as a torque converter for the two-speed automatic) while raising efficiency in manufacturing to bring costs down, which Mazda passed on to customers. The R360 secured 60 percent of the kei car market in its first year, with 23,417 units sold. 2. Mazda's First Rotary-Engined CarrnMazda started developing its first rotary engine as soon as 1963, and until then, that type of pistonless engine was predominantly used in aircraft and occasionally for motorcycles. The Wankel design that Mazda adopted is more compact and lower in weight than piston engines with equal power. Mazda wasn't the only company to license the Wankel engine, but the automaker stuck with it far longer than any other and with great success. The Cosmo Sports 110S appeared in 1967 and just in time for Mazda to start a mass export of cars to Europe and then the US three years later. Over the next 50 years, Mazda sold almost two million rotary-powered vehicles, including the legendary RX-7. After that, the sporty bur flawed RX-8 followed, also with rotary power. 3. Greatest Rotary Road Car Ever MadernWe have to be careful using the word "ever" as it's a definitive word that stretches both ways - backward and forward. However, we feel safe calling the third generation of the RX-7 the greatest rotary-powered road car ever. Mainly as it's so unlikely a manufacturer will ever build another road-legal rotary-engined car. The FD generation RX-7 was built on the previous generations to create a lightweight sports car with incredible chassis balance, spiritually satisfying steering, and a sequential twin-turbocharger added to the 1.3-liter twin-rotor engine. By the end of its run, the little engine that was set far back in the bay to create a front-mid-engine configuration made 276 horsepower. 4. Best-Selling Two-Seater Sports Car In The WorldrnAutomotive history is full of two-seater sports cars catering to driving enthusiasts, but it's not specialists like Porsche that have sold the most. Mazda and the affordable yet fun MX-5 Miata rule the roadster segment. Since its introduction as a Lotus Elan-esque British roadster with Japanese engineering and reliability in 1989, the MX-5 has never needed a brutally powerful engine to provide driving pleasure, whether on the road or on the track. Amazingly, the conception of the Mazda MX-5 Miata is rooted in the US as a suggestion from MotorTrend journalist Bob Hall in 1976. Hall was an expert in Japanese cars and fluent in the language and brought the idea up with Mazda research and development leaders Kenichi Yamamoto and Gai Arai. Hall changed careers to become a product planner with Mazda USA, and the concept was defined in Southern California. The project received final approval in 1986, and engineering and production took over in Japan to create the first-generation MX-5. 5. An Unusual Le Mans Race CarrnIn 1991, Mazda won the esteemed 24 Hours of Le Mans race with a car running a rotary engine. That made the Group C Prototype Mazda 787B the first (and currently only) car to win the race without using a reciprocating engine. The 787B was the culmination of exhaustive development and used a 2.6-liter 4-rotor Wankel engine that developed 700 hp at 9,000 rpm. It wasn't sheer pace that won the race for Mazda, though, but the 787B's reliability over the grueling event. The race car's only failure during the race was a blown headlamp bulb. As you can tell from the video below, it sounds incredible at full chat. 6. Mazda And Ford PartnershiprnFord started with a seven percent stake in Mazda but quickly increased it to a 24.5 percent stake in 1979, which triggered an American partnership with the Japanese automaker that lasted over forty years. If you drove a Ford Courier in North America from 1972 to 1982 or a Ford Ranger from 1994 to 2010, you were really driving a Mazda B-Series truck. Mazda made manual transaxles for Ford in the 1980s and shared its Familia and Capella platform for cars like the Ford Escort and Probe. The badge engineering was mostly used in Europe, but partnership projects sprung up in New Zealand and South Africa too. When Mazda found itself in financial trouble in the 1990s, Ford restructured the company and laid the foundations for profitability and Mazda's current success. The financial crisis of 2008 led to Ford needing to streamline its business and prompted the corporation to sell 20 percent of its stake, thus surrendering its control of Mazda. In 2015, Ford sold its remaining stock back to Mazda. 7. Multiple MarquesrnIn Japanese and Australian markets, Mazda experimented with spinoff brands until the turn of the 20th century. Eunos (1989 to 1996) is the most well-known spinoff and was launched as an upscale fun-to-drive brand, including the Eunos Roadster known to us as the Miata or MX-5. Autozam was briefly its kei car brand, and Efini ran from 1991 to 1997 in Japan as its luxury arm. The one that nearly came to be and was planned to come to America as Mazda's answer to Honda's premium Acura brand was Amati. It was announced in 1991 and scheduled to launch in 1994 but was quickly doomed by the collapse of the Japanese economy. Mazda canceled its plans for the Amati brand in 1992. Not much is known publicly about the debacle, but it's generally understood that Mazda effectively dumped the investment overboard. The company won't even acknowledge the project publicly, likely out of shame - misplaced or otherwise. However, the Amati 500 did make it to the US as the Mazda Millenia in 1994. It's a generally forgotten model but remained on sale until 2002.

My concern is with the rear brakes on my 2013 Mazda CX-5. While getting the service 40,000 km done at 38,909 km at Fredericton Mazda, I was informed by phone that my rear brake pads had worn out to the point where they had destroyed the rotors and I was on the hook for a $459 bill plus extra for the 40,000 km service. Fredericton Mazda assumed that I had skipped my 16,000 km service because I had it done at City Mazda in Halifax at 15318 km. When I brought the car back into Fredericton Mazda at 22752 km to have it serviced they just carried out the 16000 km service again assuming Id neglected my brand new $43500 vehicle. The 24,000 km service includes an inspection of the brake system in the car. When I informed Fredericton Mazda about the service in Halifax, they said theres no way they could have known about it being carried out, which makes sense. However, logically if a qualified service rep/mechanic drove the car in to be serviced, according to the service report he should have logged KM in and KM out. Which leaves me to wonder how the Mazda Service rep got the car into the garage to even carry out the service without noticing the KM on the dash. If the service rep had logged the KM of the car on the way into garage which I might assume to be proper procedure, then the 24,000 service may have actually been carried out and the brakes may have been inspected. All that aside, 38,900 km is far too soon for brake pads to be worn to a point where the rotors are destroyed, considering the fact the front brakes are still at 50% and 10000 of my km are highway to Halifax. When I asked The Fredericton Mazda Service rep if this has happened before he said, Yes, but he also informed that he had seen one at 120,000 km. Fredericton Mazda ended up paying for the rotors that were destroyed in what Ive been referring to as a brake failure, but I was left with a $210 charge for brake pads and labor to replace them. I informed them that this was unacceptable and there is clearly something wrong with the rear brakes but they refused to acknowledge this or even call Mazda Canada to inquire about the issue. To summarize, I have dire concerns with the quality and safety of the braking system in my 2013 CX-5 and if steps arent taken to have this resolved, then I will be switching car companies for good!

This is about my second consecutive Mazda sedan I have owned. After I was notified of the recent recall of the passenger side inflator on my 2012 Mazda 6 I wanted to also have the drivers side one replaced, at my expense, and when it was later recalled (as it most likely would be), I wanted to be reimbursed for whatever my cost was. I first presented this request to the dealership who told me the cost would be around $700, because they said the inflator part alone could not be replaced. Because I am willing to pay this amount I then contacted Mazda Corporate Customer Experience where I was told Mazda could not promise any reimbursement but would “review” such request. Finally, I contacted two executives at the Corporation with this request. My last request to one of them was made by letter mailed by certified mail. Although the letter mailing was verified received by USPS, it has now been some 3 months and I have not received any reply and I dont expect to. My Opinion: This clearly shows me: MAZDA DOESN’T EVEN CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS TO EVEN RESPOND TO THEM IN THIS SITUATION. This experience has now cemented my decision to never purchase another Mazda again. I probably should not have purchased this one because I had a problem with the moonroof not always closing on the last one that was only fixed because a friend of mine knew someone at Mazda that I was able to connect with who got the problem finally fixed after my having taken the car to the dealership numerous times and told they “had to replicate the problem” before it could be fixed.

Got the Mazda Tribute secondhand really cheap... runs really well... have not had any issues except flat tire and the key not wanting to come out of the ignition. Also, the gear shift sticks but I attribute that to the previous owner letting her kids accidentally spill a soda on it. It has grey color... spacious design... has cruise control that works great. I love any kind of SUV/Crossover... they have so much more room than even a large car... great for trips... modern and sleek design. But I wish it had better quality interior material and design. The car is secondhand and she had kids but they would not have been able to do the damage quite so easily otherwise.

Back in June of 2015 we purchased a new 2016 Mazda CX5 from Fremont Mazda in Fremont CA. Once we agreed on the price, the car was delivered to us in poor condition, the paint felt like sandpaper (it was not prepped right) and we found cookie crumbs in the cup holder and candy wrappers under the drivers seat. By the time transaction was done it was late (about 9:30PM), but even with the poor outside lighting, we noticed defects in the paint on the hood of the vehicle. The dealer assured us they would take care of it. It was late, and even with all these issues we took the car home, trusting that all would be made right. I could look past the cookie crumbs and the candy wrappers, but in daylight the next day, multiple defects in the paint were very apparent. We took the car back to the dealer, they had a Mazda rep look at it. It was determine that the defects were under the clear coat of the paint, but they were severe enough to do anything about. The dealer offered after some complaining to repaint the hood (could not guarantee it would match) or get us a VISA gift card for $500. As I was pretty fed up with the dealer, we opted for the VISA gift card. It took about 6 weeks and lots of calls, but what finally arrived from Mazda was a Mazda gift card, good for only 1 year, but for Mazda mechanical repairs only. What good is $500 of credit for repairs on a brand new car that has a 3 year warranty? By the way repairs dont include painting the hood. So now I have a car with defects that came from the factory that no one will do anything about. After multiple complaints, the dealer said, Mazda will make the next 2 lease payments to make it up to us, nothing ever happened. Then the dealer said instead we would receive a $500 check from Mazda. That was at least 4 weeks ago, NOTHING!I wish I could say the story ends here, but it got worse quickly. A couple of weeks after buying the car, a piece of gravel hit the windshield and cracked it so badly - the car is not drivable as the crack is along the drivers side of the windshield and quite large. The insurance company authorized a replacement ASAP. This was in early July. Turns out Mazda does not have any replacement windshields anywhere in the US as the model is so new, yet they continue in production somehow. It is now almost 3 MONTHS later and still no windshields available, no date as to when it will be, and no offer of help from the dealer at all.We have made multiple payments on this car since early July, have not been able to drive it and have defects that are permanent in the paint before we even got it home. The dealer not only did not keep the commitment of compensation for the paint, but offered us no help when we found out the back ordered windshield could take months to come in (and it has). We even checked into aftermarket windshields, but were told, they are also not yet available. As a consumer, I believe there is an implied understanding when you buy a new car, that typical replacement parts will be available, clearly not the case with Mazda and the 2016 CX5. We will never look at another Mazda, not because of what happened, but rather because the company and the dealer offered no help. I called Mazda corporate helpline many times. They dont return phone calls and when you do finally get someone, they tell you, you need to be patient, and we value your business, right!

Mazda roadside charged me to use a towing company to pick up my vehicle and take it in for service. My vehicle never made it to the service department, they kept my car and wanted to charge me additional to tow again. I was not able to retrieve my vehicle so I lost to towing company. I called the bank they retrieve the vehicle and repoed. The car was auctioned off. Now it shows on my credit report. Im having a hard time getting a vehicle due to open loan.

I purchased a 2014 Mazda 6, loaded with their technology package. The GPS was the worst ever experienced. The speaker in the front passenger door vibrated so badly it was hard to use the system, even with the bass turned off. The GPS would indicate a turn 400 yards away when basically at the turn point. It would then suddenly advise to turn, when almost through the intersection. The front drivers seat had limited settings. I went to Mazda for service and all I got was a shoulder shrug. I sent a note to Mazda and didnt even get a response. After 8 months of problems I dumped this car and took a loss of approximately $8,000. I have now owned about 12 cars and the Mazda 6 was the worst experience ever.

Mazda 2005 Rx8 engine light came on. Once it was towed to the shop, I was told that it needed a new engine. The technician sounded like it was a regular event but once they contacted the headquarter, the request was rejected. It was revealed that the compression had been faulty for a while but it was not checked.

I take very good care of our CX-7 and with only 70,000 miles the turbo and catalytic converter went. We were driving and a loud siren sound came from the engine. We had to limp to a shop and were told the turbo and the catalytic converter were shot. This cost us $3,600. Before being fixed I contacted the local Mazda dealer who told me that these cars are notorious for failed turbos. In fact he said it was so bad that Mazda put out a special warranty to cover these turbos. They all fail around 60-70,000 miles. Turns out, my VIN number did not match the ones that were a part of this special warranty. I asked the service manager, Is there anything you can do for me? He replied, sarcastically, We can replace your turbo for you.I have owned three Mazdas. Every one had problems. The one thing I have found though that all Mazdas share are very bad brakes. They are always very weak. This CX-7 with 70,000 also has bad brakes. I am replacing the front rotors for the SECOND time, with only 70,000 miles. I have replaced the pads probably 5 times and I do not drive fast or slam them. My son and I are very meticulous about changing the oil and the brake pads. Maintenance like we do should help a car last. Unfortunately Mazdas are very cheap, low-end Japanese cars and I guess it doesnt matter what you do, they just fall apart.

I have owned a Mazda since 1983. With different models, I call their products “chick vehicles”. All you ever had to do was change the oil. I own a 2007 Mazda Tribute. The driver door wasnt put on correctly. The headlight seals have all leaked. One was replaced under warranty and one not. After the warranty was up, I was told I have an oil leak. Its the major seal and will be about $1200.00 to pull the engine and transmission to replace it. When I made a comment at Lee Johnson Kirkland dealership where I bought the car, I was told all new cars are made cheap. The best is yet to come. I almost lost my hand. The hood came down on it and actually latched. I was trapped for about an hour until I finally broke off the wiper arm and pried my hand out. Its badly smashed and I have numbness in my hand but Im thankful to have my fingers. My car also has the recall for the sticking throttle. I got the recall letter in August. Its now the middle of November and Im told theres only parts for 04 models and older. They have made modifications to unlatch and open a trunk from the inside and outside but beware, if that hood latches close, there’s no way out except the release located in the driver’s side. Seriously, 26,000. I don’t think I will purchase another product from them ever again.

Engine Failure. My wifes car that we both really enjoyed until recently. I did a lot of research on this vehicle before we purchased it and the price was excellent with the Tech option. All was ok until a few weeks ago. Started noticing the smell of burnt oil in the cabin when we were stopped at an intersection. Came home, looked under the vehicle and didnt notice anything. This continued on each time we used it (we carpool so it doesnt get driven daily) and then eventually I noticed oil spots on our driveway. Thought it may be either dripping from the filter or the bolt so I decided to do an oil change which I noticed that there was an excessive amount of oil present on the underside of the chassis and also in the plastic shroud that must be removed to access the oil pan and filter. The bolt and filter were on tight so the oil was coming from another location.Drove the vehicle into work the following day and again the smell of burning oil (like oil that would get onto the exhaust) was present when the vehicle was running but at a stop. Parked in a spot where there were no oil spots and I went into work. Roughly 3 hours later I had a look at the vehicle and noticed a 5 round oil spot under the vehicle. Contacted the Mazda dealership and drove it in for an appointment that afternoon. They had the vehicle for 2 hours and I came there after work to check up on what they found. First words out of the technician were we ordered you a new engine as this one has a porous block. Not sure if the block was porous or cracked as one would think that after 31000kms it would have been evident sooner.Regardless, the dealership provided a replacement vehicle (Mazda 3) and have indicated that this will be repaired once they receive a new engine as they were on back order. Dealership also indicated that this is not the first 2.5L with this issue found on a 2018 CX5. Ive owned over 30 vehicles so far and this is the first time Ive had this type of failure. Needless to say, Im not too happy with the reliability demonstrated by a Japanese built vehicle.

Transmission failed for the second time. First brand new car after mothers death using her Ford 1993 T-Bird. I researched the Honda Del Sol, which I liked before getting discouraged and after one year waiting for my order to arrive, I bought 1996 Mazda 626 in 1996 (being the first and only owner of this car I did not investigate like I did with the Del Sol). In 2002, had transmission fail, water pump, air conditioner, timing belt. Mazda, of course, did take responsibility. I see after reading the countless complaints on this site it is a company that does not stand behind their product. As of 8/2011, not only the transmission is gone but catalytic converter should be replaced (if I want to pass smog). Mazda said it was all my doing and wash the grease from their hands. I see after reading the countless complaints on this site it is a company that does not stand behind their product. I will never by a Mazda again. Sincerely, an extremely broke consumer.

I purchased my Mazda Cx-7 in December 2009. Only one week after my purchase, the engine light came on (12.17.09). I took my car to Sussman Mazda for service and they replaced a valve. Shortly after that, the engine light came on again (3.10). This time, a timing chain/belt was replaced. A couple of months later, the engine light came on again with the car now needing a transmission sensor replaced (10.10). On June 25, 2011, the engine light came on again. I took the car back and was told that the car could not be seen until June 28. I decided to keep the car there due to the driving condition while taking the car to the dealer. On June 28, I never received a phone call and had to call the dealer. I was informed that the machine that read the problems with Mazda cars was currently broke, and they had no idea when the machine would be fixed. While waiting, I rented a vehicle, which was not covered by my warranty because they were not able to state what was wrong with the car. I was told that I should now pay for a tow truck to have my car taken to another dealer. I expressed that when my car was dropped off on 6.25.11, the machine was not broken; therefore, I should not be responsible for towing the car. The dealer indicated that they would try to fix the machine in the meantime and get back to me. While waiting, I contacted the Mazda headquarters concerning this matter. They concluded that Sussman would pay for the rental car. My car stayed with Sussman for about two-and-a-half weeks. Sussman dealer stated that they wont have a new machine anytime soon and they agreed to transport my car to North Penn dealership, which concluded that my car needed a new turbo and possibly a new engine. Im very confused on how a car, which was purchased not even two years ago, would need so much work. I recently picked up my car on August 4, 2011. It is my understanding after completing some research that the Mazda Cx-7 has had several issues concerning the engine in the later models. I conclude this letter by stating that service at Sussman was horrible. This is my first experience with Mazda cars and based on this, I would never recommend this vehicle. I hope that you can shed some light on this matter concerning engine concerns. Also, until this day, Sussman has yet to phone me concerning the rental car fee, after copies of the receipts were sent for over $900 in payment. I look forward to hearing from someone in the near future.

On my new Mazda CX 5 2015 (love that car!) the entertainment system is not working at all with iPhone 6 through usb, on bluetooth. It will only play my music from the A position every time, will not play any streaming audio from my iPhone 6. Is there a way/plan by Mazda to upgrade the software on the system to resolve the issues?

Mazda 5 has good mileage and storage space in the back. We like the cruise control, volume/mute control on steering wheel and digital dashboard display. We wanted the benefits of a minivan that was easier to maneuver and at a lower price. However, it has poor overall leg room and we cannot use the third row seats for people of all ages and sizes. We want more overall leg room, but especially more room for the third row seats. This would help to carry people of all ages and sizes in all of the passenger seats.

We have been waiting for a replacement back seat latch for a 2014 Mazda cx5 for over a month. Using mazdas site to send an email is a waste of time because they have designed a never ending loop so that no one can send them a message. I own 2009 Mazda 5. It has 145,000 miles on it and still runs great! I bought it in 2010 and it was the best car purchase. No problems at all. Only changing oils, tires, and breaks. We needed second car and we decided to get another Mazda, this time CX5. I think I would never buy another brand. I would absolutely recommend to a family and friends.

Mazda MX-5 drain system design flaw. Mazda NA does not care. I had a very similar experience to previous post by Daniel of Palo Alto, CA on Feb. 2, 2011. Mazda North America customer service seems happy to lose a lifetime of customer loyalty for a $10 parts and maybe $100 labor fix that was a known issue since mid-production year 2006-2007. I should have been notified or the quick fix should have been done at one of the many visits to the dealership I had between 2008 and 2010 (over $16k in invoices over those years). I cannot begin to speak how angering it was that customer service insisted the entire Mazda NA Operations does not have access to Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), and therefore it would be up to the dealership to cover the fix for a manufacturing design flaw if they desired. I told the rep that the dealership actually pointed the other way citing that Mazda NA has to decide to cover it free of charge since it is not the dealership that designed the drain system. I told the rep that I want to speak with another more experienced agent or a supervisor to confirm that. The rep flat out flipped the script citing, No. No other agent or supervisor can help you. I am sorry you do not understand that. I am sorry that you interpret what I said that way. I am sorry that no one here can help you. I am ending this call now. Are you serious?! Are they trying to hurt market share? I personally will not be buying a Mazda again unless I have disposable income for a disposable car. The damage to their reputation in North America has been done in my eyes.

I leased CX-3 for 3 years from Mazda. When I returned it, I thought my car looked pretty well maintained except the curb rash on the wheels. I was wrong. The wear and tear charges were more than $1000 dollars because they charge for every little thing you did not even notice when you had your car plus on damages that Mazda should be responsible for. For example, if you drive in rain or wash your car, there will be water damage in the headlight that is going to cost you $350 for EACH headlight. The receipt is the final list after I made them remove a few things. I am leasing a car from Mercedes too, and they are not charging me for every tiny scratch like Mazda did. So if you lease a car from Mazda, make sure you fix everything including tiny tiny scratches and damages caused by their poor assembly.

Mazda CX-7 2011: In June of 2014 I lost my first turbo, at 54,000 miles. After having the turbo replace it turned out that my fuel pump was also bad, had that replaced. In July of 2015 a weird noise began coming from the area of my turbo. Brought it to the Mazda dealership and was told it was probably a wrist pin. Brought my car to another dealership and it turned out a few bolts between the turbo and manifold had broke and the gap was causing the whistling noise. Had to pay for bolt replacement out of pocket (over $1000 because they also insisted on replacing the seals on the turbo). November of 2015 my second Turbo went. I was over the Warrantied mileage and warranty was denied. The turbo warranty from previous installation had also expired after 12 months. Replaced turbo at my own expense. January of 2016 the car flashed a check engine and oil light. Pulled over and immediately shut the car down. After having the car towed to a repair place it was discovered that the crankshaft bearing had gone bad and destroyed the motor. I basically have a worthless car with only 67 thousand miles on it.

I purchased a black 2001 Mazda 626 LX on August 13, 2012. Within one week, the alarm would randomly go off and not stop. We took the car back to Harris Auto Group. They sent the car to Bordentown Auto. The car sat over in their parking lot for 4 days. We kept calling and asking if it was fixed. After all, we are now making payments on this car and do not have access to drive it now for 4 days. The next repair came two weeks later when we started hearing a squealing noise. We brought the car back to Harris for repair. Their mechanic said it was the alternator belt and replaced it the same day. Two weeks later, the car started making noises and going backwards while in drive. I took the car back to Harris Auto Group, and they sent us to A-1 Economy Transmissions for a transmission repair. The car stayed at A-1 for repairs from Monday, 10/1, to Friday, 10/5/12, but it would be under warranty. We would only have to make a $100 deductible payment. Mind you, we are still supposed to continue to make our regular car payments during all of these repairs. We picked up the car on Friday, October 5, 2012. We paid $187.50, our deductible, plus sales tax. On Saturday, October 6, 2012, we decided to ride to Burlington from Bordentown to get some Chinese food. Well, we never made it back home. The car’s alternator belt broke, and the car overheated and shut off. Well, we called Harris Auto Group and asked about a tow and repairs. We were told “Sorry, I can’t authorize a tow.” What the hell? Well, now we have to spend money for a tow back to Bordentown. On Monday, October 8, 2012, I paid $130 for replacement belts only for the mechanic to tell me the water pump is about to go. WTH! What more can go wrong with this stupid car?!

I have not had a single issue with my car in six years, it has been the absolute best purchase I have ever made. The car has also retained much of its resale value. My vehicle is totally manual, transmission and windows; the vehicle also gets great gas mileage. I chose this car because it was rated very high for reliability and overall value at the time I bought the vehicle. However, I dislike the clips that secure parts to my vehicle, and they break very easily. The oil pan fell off a few months after purchase and some of the interior clip ons broke as well.

I purchased my used 2006 Mazda in 2007. Since that time, Ive had the vehicle aligned four times, the front struts and bushings replaced, and Ive purchased 12 tires...two of which were for blow-outs due to inner tire wall wear. Each time Ive replaced tires, its been due to inner wall wear. Now, Im again faced with the need for new tires all the way around once again, but also rear suspension shocks. And I also need to replace the front struts/shocks once again. Ive maintained my vehicle and tires appropriately. I do not use my car but on city roadways and highways. No potholes or dirt roads, etc.; per car fax, this vehicle has no history of any damage whatsoever. After reading multiple websites, as well as the NHTSA concerning these very same issues with the Mazda 5 models from 06 to 10...I contacted Mazda USA. They were of no help. I requested the changes that were made to the Mazda 5s that resolved these issues and was flat-out denied this information, and when asked why they couldnt provide, they continually ignored my requests for an explanation as to why they were withholding the updates and changes. They also stated they would be of no assistance to resolving this major safety issue. Im shocked as to why they would withhold information to a Mazda 5 owner who carts around her family daily. I want to know how to properly correct this very dangerous issue, but was denied this information after multiple attempts to obtain it. With the amount of complaints concerning the very same issues with this particular vehicle...something needs to be done to ensure the safety of the families who ride in these cars daily with the potential risk of tire failure. Since its the inner wall wearing, operators cannot see the damage; they only see the outer tire, which shows minimal wear... Its very serious and very dangerous...

What I went through, I wish not on anybody. IPAC Mazda did an oil change and gave us the OK on our Tribute. Three days later it wouldn’t start and we had it tolled in to discover it overheated. The vehicle gave no warning sign and Mazda okayed it with their full circle check, not to mention we purchase an extended. We have been mislead by numerous persons and our vehicle stayed there for 2 months with the same answer. We trying to have the extended IW pick up the charges on good faith. Not to mention this is the second Mazda we had a problem with. They’re a long history from day one with our RX8. If anybody wants to listen, Ill give the horrible service detail and lies. We pick up our vehicle and had to call an officer for instruction. The consequence is they kept our vehicle for 2 months with no phone calls or status what they’re doing. You dont find too many people purchasing 2 vehicles the same day and the RX8 shutting off on us for a 3 years period to finally replacing the engine. The Tribute is left for us to do the repair. All we are asking is for help and to get our point across so nobody has to spend their holidays driving around in an unsafe RX8, which me and my family relied on the Tribute.

2012 Mazda 3 6 speed with Skyactiv Transmission problems - This car had 180 miles on it when I got it; it now has 2000. From day one, I have experienced problems shifting into 1st gear, where it just plain and simple will not go into gear. This happens whether the car is cold or warm. Also on 2nd gear and reverse. It sticks in almost every gear. It clunks loudly when putting the car into 1st gear initially and when going from 1st to 2nd. It also accelerates on its own when I am both shifting up and shifting down. I have almost hit someone at a stop light and while sitting in stop and go traffic because of this issue. It happens every day, intermittently. I feel very unsafe driving it. Mazda has said that they will contact the dealership and speak to them, because the dealership will not confirm nor deny that these things shouldn’t be happening, which is weird seeing as the car is brand new and no brand new car should ever refuse to go into gear nor drive on its own. I had a 2004 before this with zero problems and I regret buying up. I am very unhappy and in danger.

Bought a 2008 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring right off the showroom floor. It was/is beautiful and has lots of bells and whistles. However within a few weeks we heard this really loud noise on the right front of the car, by the tire when driving over 50 miles an hour. We inquired many different times and they said it was probably the tires but that the tires werent included in the warranty. The transfer case along with some other things that the Mazda employee told us made it dangerous to drive and legally they couldnt allow me to drive my car until it was replaced. The inside knobs of the car lights fell off within a few months of purchase. The headphones that went with the rear entertainment system were defective. The Bluetooth that allows you to talk hands-free is has so much static that the person on the other line cannot hear you very well. They did not fix that.I tried to get Mazda to replace the car with another or buy it back. They refused and said that because they kept fixing the problems - we couldnt file for lemon law. However, they did say if things continued to go bad after my warranty expired, they would extend it. Did that happen? No, it did not. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Since then, the brakes I replaced 3x within 2 years as they continue to squeak even when they are brand new! Mazda told me it was probably because I got my brakes done at Midas who used a different brand so I allowed them to replace it with the Mazda brand. Yep, still squeaks. Its VERY loud and embarrassing. At that point, Mazda told me there was nothing that they could do.Last summer, the water that comes from the air conditioning backed up inside the car, flooding the passengers front floor. This summer, it did the same. Due to this, the front blower motor has stopped working. This will be over $600 to replace so here I drive this expensive car with the windows down since I have no air conditioning. At night, I have to drive with the windows down and the windshield wipers on because the windows fog up from the front blowers not working... NO DEFROST! We have had nothing but problems with this vehicle.Financially drained - not from the payment (although its way too expensive to have all these troubles!) but due to the continual repairs. I had a Saturn before this and drove it for ten years having to replace only the fuel injection. Everything else worked! $45K vs $16K. When it comes to Mazda, you do NOT get what you pay for. Unless you are paying for a lot of problems - then you are right on the money!

Just passed 24000km on the odometer and the brand new 2016 CX3 I bought a year ago has a complete transmission failure. I had to bring it into the dealership (Stoney Trail Mazda) in Calgary AB Canada for a period of 4 weeks. They had to replace the complete transmission which took 2 weeks and after the replacement there was still noises coming from the vehicle, they took another two weeks to find out what was wrong and was complete clueless. They told me they did further work by replacing the flywheel and a number of other parts. The dealership is making an effort and did fix everything without further cost to me and did provide a rental vehicle which I appreciate greatly. However, I completely lost confidence in Mazda as a company. Ive been a long time Mazda owner and the fact that the dealership is not stepping up to replace a clearly lemon/defective vehicle is really upsetting. This will be the last Mazda I will ever own. On July 25, 2015 my new 2016 CX-5 only two months old did not want to start. I checked the battery and it showed it had power but my car was as dead. I called my dealer at Lodi N.J. where I bought the car for advice and Rahsheed told me to call Mazda roadside assistance and I did. Spoke with a Mazda roadside assistant and told her what was going on with my car and she told me a flatbed tow truck will be at my location within a hour. One hour later comes the flatbed tow truck and I asked the driver if I could ride along and so I did. We get to Koeppel Mazda Queens NY. I tell the tow truck driver that I am going inside to let the manager know that we are dropping off my car. The manager Andrew ** steps outside with me and as the tow truck is backing up and bringing my new car down it scrapes and damaged my new Thule bike rack. Andrew the manager tells him to stop what he was doing and that the car needs to be lowered on the street. At this point the driver is getting frustrated and levels his flatbed truck in which he forgets to put the rear straps and chain hooks on the rear of my NEW CAR and also forgets to put my NEW Cx-5 off off of neutral and failed to put it in park and Failed to deploy the emergency parking brakes on my car. He then drives forwards, fast and slamming on his brakes causing my Brand New (Mazda CX-5 GT with Tech package) to shoot forwards and crashing into the back of his tow truck causing front end damage. Three Mazda certified workers seen the accident including the service department. Manager Andrew ** and I were all in shock on what just happened. Andrew and I took photos of the damaged SUV and Andrew told me that he would take care of the report. I advised Andrew that I don want my car back due to the loss of my resale value caused by Mazda. On 8/14/2015 I stopped by the repair shop that was fixing my car to get some things I left in the car. To my horror my car was in the back of the shop dirty with my whole SUV front end sitting on top of my cars roof, not to mention both my front windows was rolled down getting dust and dirt all over the place and not to mention there goes my new car smell and the body shop wasnt even certified Mazda repair shop. I know that when a new car rolls off the assembly line everything is calibrated, the transducer in the front of my Mazda emblem with the laser on my windshield work hand in hand so that my auto brake assist work properly. Now my new car will have a damage report on carfax that I did not cause, all Mazdas fault. Why did my new car did not want to start in the first place? It was only two months old with just 2000 miles on it. Mazda Roadside assistance contracted the tow truck company NYC Tire Auto Care Inc. The incident happened in front of multiple employees of Mazda (Manager: Andrew ** (Service department associate: Izzy ** and two others from Parts Department that will vouch what happened. I will now lose thousands of dollars on my trade in when I decide to trade inmy 2016 CX-5. I stated that I dont want my car back to every Mazda personnel I spoke with due to the fact that it was Mazdas fault. I just want a brand new CX-5 with everything I put in but sadly I am getting the runaround. Even my insurance company called in my behalf and they also getting the runaround.

I was once a loyal Mazda person. I loved the cars... until I bought a Mazda 5. Nothing but trouble. First there was the nasty habit of that car to overheat when idling for longer than 10 minutes, at which point the steering would freeze up and it became undriveable. A very dangerous thing in rush hour in Texas. Now, I have to replace a broken plastic cover to the tail light. Mazda made it so that you cant replace just the plastic cover. You have to replace the entire tail light assembly at nearly $500.00 just for the part! This is the very definition of insanity. I will never, ever buy another Mazda.

Well, if you want to be mislead, lied to and taken advantage of then I suggest you come here. I went into Mazda back in March 2019 to test the CX-5, after driving it around and listening all the great features I started to become more and more interested in the vehicle. Zakou, my sales rep tried to get me the best deal. I explained to him I still had 3 more months left on my previous lease but he assured me it wouldnt be an issue because Mazda would take care of the remaining balance (which by the way, was written in the contract and stated in all the paperwork signed by them and myself).Well, to cut the story short, its been almost three months since I switched to Mazda, my previous lease hasnt been paid off yet although they took the vehicle from me, I have been CONSTANTLY reaching out to my sales rep, calling the store, asking for a manager, financial manager, ANYONE that could help me out and all I get is: I will find out what is going on and I will reach out to you but I never hear back from anyone, and the manager seems to never be available. The only person I was able to talk to was the manager for used cars who obviously had no idea what I was talking about and also promised to call back, but I am still waiting for that call - one week later-.I have sent copies of the letters from my previous car dealership regarding the missed payments and how this was reported to the credit bureaus damaging my credit and all Zakou (the sales rep) would say is that he passed it on to his managers. When I asked which manager so I could follow up he would say I could just call and ask for one and they would all know what I was talking about, which again, LIES, because not once was I able to get a hold of a manager, they seemed to NEVER be there, and when I would reach out to Zakou again, hed tell me the same thing making me even more upset at the fact that I was not getting any concrete answers. The last thing I was told by my sales rep was for me to pay the balance and bring them a cancelled check for a refund which at this point I refuse because that is not what I agreed on, and if I wouldve known that from the beginning I would have just waited out the three months so I wouldnt be stuck with two lease payments!! It is safe to say, this has been by FAR the worse experience with a dealership that has failed tremendously with their customer service. Their lack of attention or interest in my situation has made my experience so sour, if it wasnt for my contract I would have returned the vehicle already so I wouldnt have to deal with them.

Ive been to Mazda several times and they have given me various excuses to why they produce little sound. I decided to take the car to an independent audio dealer and they notice via a metered reading that those two rear speakers were not getting enough power therefore they would not change the speakers. I told a picture of the meter reading. When I returned to Mazda, after an hour I was told that, Thats how the system was set up. So I contacted Bose and they said, That is how Mazda set up their speakers. Could someone please help me solve this problem? Many, many thanks.

I purchased a 2008 CX9 certified pre-owned Mazda on 10/7/2011 and Maple Shade Mazda confirmed I had 80% left on the brakes. Six month later on March 27 2012, I had to take the car in because it was making a noise when I stopped. The dealer said I need new rotors and new brakes. I had driven the car 5000 miles since I bought the car. I felt the dealer made a false representation when they stated in writing I had 80% left on my brakes. Dealer refused to install the brakes at their expense which is what I believe they should have done. I dont believe I could have used 50 of the brakes in six months or 5,000 or 6,000 miles.

Totally worn out brakes on both rotors on both cars were extremely rusted. Neither was covered by Integrity Mazda in Chattanooga, TN. I contacted all kind of people. Finally ended up with Mazda Corporation. They were as worthless as the dealership. I am now working on a commercial with Honda to tell people that changing to another car is a huge mistake. My 2008 Mazda CX-7 starts leaking oil. I am told that it needs a new Engine Oil Cooler and it is not covered under power train warranty. However, this model has had problems so the new one has been improved to prevent this. You would think if they had to improve it because of this problem it would be a recall item. I went through every Mazda dealer in Arizona and they all told me the same thing. Yep, its a problem but not a recall.

They did eventually cover the turbo under warranty, I had to pay $300 for an oxygen sensor and I still wont do the wheel bearing, but at least they covered the expensive part. I called head office, they called the dealer, back and forth and it was eventually covered. The main root cause is that when I purchased the vehicle and asked to extend the warranty, I thought I was extending the original warranty which is covered under Mazdas Added Protection plan for new vehicles. What the salesman actually gave me is a two year powertrain warranty. Im not sure if this was miscommunication or an error on their part, difficult to prove at this point.

This is the first Mazda Ive purchased and owned. The purchase of the vehicle was fine and I like the car. However... I asked to have a remote start installed (I live over an hour and a half from the dealership as this is the closest Mazda dealership to my home). I took a full day off work to drive to the dealership and wait four hours for the remote start to be installed. They installed an Mobile Remote Start (MMS) and NOT a remote start as I asked. The Mobile remote start doesnt work where I live and work in WV due to the lack of cell service in many areas. So I asked them to remove it. I had to take off another full day off work to have them remove the incorrect product that they installed the regular Mazda remote start. Its been a couple of months and the Mazda product (remote start) has been nothing but problems! It works one day and then doesnt work the next day. When it does work, it wont start until Im like right up on top of my car and then when you open the door, the car shuts off. I changed the batteries and that didnt do anything. It worked the first day and not the second or third day. I contacted my salesman who said I could bring it back down and they would take a look at it and repair it if there was an issue. He said they would replace it if it was faulty. I went out and looked up the reviews and the reviews all indicate that similar problems have existed (with reviews dating) back to 2012. Apparently Mazda has done nothing to address or fix the issues with the faulty device.I requested a refund (I paid about $500.00 for the product and the installation). Mazda refused to give me a refund. They care absolutely nothing about the bottom line of their customers. This will be the LAST MAZDA I ever buy! Not because the car is bad, I like the car, but because the service after the sale of a 30K+ product is obviously NOT one where the customer care. I will be encouraging all my friends on Facebook and work and everyone from here on out who ask me about my car (its a beautiful car... I get lots of questions about it), NEVER to buy one if they expect to have quality service after the sale! Terrible business practices Mazda! You should be ashamed of yourselves. P. S. I am a service disabled veteran... To all veterans out there... Beware!!!

When we were shopping for a new vehicle we wanted something that could carry six or more passengers. We had purchased a used car for our daughter from a local dealer. It was a good car that we were all happy with. We went in in August and the salesman just got in the new CX9 signature edition (2016). It was a great looking SUV with great technology and a fine trim level that included leather and wood trim. Complete the deal was 45,800 out the door. Considering the trim level and options that was a fair price. After one year we made the choice to lower our payments and down size to a less expensive car. The CX9 with 10,500 miles. The Trade in value of 31000 dollars. A loss of 33% of the value in one year. Stay away from any Mazda. Any car that loses that much value in one year should be taken off the market. I will never buy another Mazda in my lifetime.

We purchased a new Mazda 6 and were being pushed in finance to purchase an alarm system for $350. My husband asked if the car already had an alarm system from manufacturer and we were told no. My husband thought it was odd so he asked again and the answer was still no! We then decided to purchase and later realized we have 2 alarms because it already has one. On top of this our dealer quit the next day and no one told us, so we continued to try to contact him and the rest of the staff seemed bothered when we had questions. Finally I call the manager (Mike **) about several issues and he would not return my calls. On his email responses he was rude and angry and refused to help us. I waited a week to fill out the survey to see how they would correct some of these issues and then finally I filled out the form truthfully. Mike then sends me a nasty, unprofessional email saying that because we gave him a poor score he no longer wanted to work with us! We were shocked. We are very unhappy with this dealership and wish we would have purchased this vehicle in Tustin or not purchased a Mazda at all (Even though I do like the car itself!)

Public Service Announcement: Dont buy a Mazda AND do not use Passport Mazda
Public Service Announcement: Dont buy a Mazda AND do not use Passport Mazda in Suitland, MD. My daughters Mazda 6 had a sunroof that literally exploded on Jan 11, 2017 while she was driving. She said it sounded like a gunshot and she almost wrecked. It exploded upward and out of the vehicle although she had A LOT of glass that rained back in on her and the inside of her car. The vehicle was only 8 months old. Mazda replaced the sunroof out of goodwill (as they put it) and informed us that it was probably due to a shard of metal in the track left over from manufacturing... pressure built up on the glass and it exploded. Her vehicle is not the first vehicle to do this - Google it! They are refusing to repair the leather seats that the glass got embedded in and ripped and are refusing to fix the paint where the glass flew out and took a chunk of paint off the roof and the trunk of the vehicle. We have been trying to work through this with them since January. I have been on the phone with Corporate Mazda who in turn have been trying to get Passport Mazda on the phone for 2 weeks to get their side of the story. They have not made a connection with Corporate in over two weeks. Isnt that like ignoring your boss? Besides the fact that Mazda will not stand behind their product and quality. One of my daughters first adult purchases has not turned out to be a disheartening experience. They have not heard the last from us as we stand up for what is right! Do not purchase a Mazda as their customer service is LESS THAN SATISFACTORY and we purchased not ONE but TWO MAZDAS ON THE SAME DAY! Its all about how you respond to what goes wrong, Mazda!

I recently bought a Mazda CX-5 (2 months ago). At the time of purchase I had only a couple of criteria but they were very important to me since I put A LOT of mileage on my cars. (My last car was a 2007 and it had 380,000 km on it when I finally decided to buy a new car.) My criteria: The car needed to have XM/Sirius availability, a bluetooth that enabled true hands free use of my cell phone calls and an easy to use, straightforward navigation system. I was told the CX 5 I was purchasing had all three… WHAT A LIE!!!I paid an extra $1300 for the tech package to be installed into the car that would supposedly allow all three of above criteria. Immediately it was evident that something was wrong with the navigation (or so I thought). It took no less than 7 step to input any address into it. It was impossible to use on the fly and required not only pulling over to input info BUT it demanded 6 more levels of information before it would give me directions! Im serious. After returning to Budds dealership to attempt to gain further insight on how to correct this issue it became evident that NONE of the salespeople knew how to operate it! NONE! Not even the sales manager. We had to contact the Navigation system manufacturers in the state to find out what the problem was. Turns out, there was no problem. That was the crappy-ass cheap nav system that Mazda had ordered for their 2016 CX line of cars!!! Oh - by the way, the voice recognition is non-existent. Now I am back to driving around having to rely on my iPhone Google Maps to direct me on my travels. Nice to know Mazda has our backs (tongue firmly planted in check) helping its customers abide by the hands free driving rules now strictly in place in Canada and the US. There is no excuse for this type of 20th century technology in todays 21st century, seriously?? The XM was a joke, it does not actually show up on the in-dash display. It is provided exclusively by a tiny little remote that has push buttons. No scrolling capability, no visual feedback about what station you are on or listening to, unbelievable. By the way, I had the tech package removed and requested my $1300 back. My Bluetooth is another matter, cuts in and out on a regular basis. I have to reconnect my phone and the cars bluetooth at least 4 times a month. Again, as with the nav system, the voice recognition is non-existent.I HATE THIS CAR. $40,000 and 7 yrs of car payments for the privilege of driving a car with no nav system, XM/Sirius or bluetooth capability. So basically I am back driving around having to use my iPhone for cell calls and google maps. One more thing, the gas mileage sucks, the tank is the size of a football. I am filling up every second or third day AND it sounds like a diesel engine when you first start it up. I thought something was wrong with the muffler when I first started driving it. Turns out the loud engine and exhaust noise is the result of the skyactiv technology they use, another huge marketing BS story they try to sell you about why Mazda is so advanced. Did I mention HOW MUCH I HATE THIS CAR??

I went in for an oil change and full circle inspection, but little did I know that Ill be unhappy with service. About a week or so later, I actually took notice that a/c was not working as good as it did before serviced by Mazda, and as a normal routine of checking fluid levels, I also noticed that the oil was low. On 9/25/11, I called the Mazda service department and spoke to Lee. I informed him the exact information and he told me to bring my car in for service. So, I schedule an appointment for 9/27/11 at 2:15 pm.I went in just to be told that in order for Mazda to service the car, I would have to pay $129 for the a/c and that if oil was short, I would not have a problem unless it was below low. I did explain to him that my husband had to put in a quarter of oil because it was so low. He suggested that I bring it back for another oil change and they would deduct a quarter off the amount. He was not willing to consider by chance that air was leaked out of the car by Mazda technician and not enough oil was put in the car by Mazda. He never stated over the phone about paying for them to check a/c or anything. I drove from another city just for poor service once again.

I own a Mazda CX7. I received the Mazda notice concerning the timing chain quite a few months back. I actually went to have the car checked due to the notice, and I found that there was a problem with mine. This is no lie, what I am about to tell you. On the way back from the shop, my timing chain broke! This caused an enormous amount of damage, and thereby I have incurred a huge bill to have this fixed. I contacted Mazda Corp and explained that I had no way to indicate that I have had all the oil changes done due to the fact that my husband changes our oil on all our cars. They said to me that I have no recourse and there are no loopholes for my situation. They will not honor the situation.I am extremely disappointed in the service and the behavior of Mazda Corp. I have recently learned that others have experienced this same problem. Even though Mazda knew that there was a problem and thereby sent the notice in the first place, they are still unwilling to fix the problem or take care of the monetary damages. I am asking everyone who reads this and has had a problem with Mazda concerning this situation to contact me because I am going to file a Civil Suit against Mazda, but we must join forces in order to do this. Thank you.

This is the nicest car I have ever driven. It now has 40,000 kms. and is running perfectly. BUT: when I first purchased the car I said that the brake and gas pedals seemed to be too close together and my shoe caught the bottom of the brake pedal when I tried to move from the gas to the brake. Did not think this was a major problem until we were sitting in the fast food takeout line and the car started to inch forward while I was stepping on the brake. I stepped down harder and the car revved up and lurched forward hitting the car in front of us. My shoe which was stepping on the brake was also touching the gas so the harder I stepped on the brake, the more I stepped on the gas also. While there was hardly any damage to both cars (some bumper damage to car in front about $600.) IF A CHILD HAD BEEN BETWEEN THE CARS, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED. This is an issue that should be addressed by the designers before someone is injured or killed. This problem is not unique to Mazda, other car manufacturers like Toyota, Ford, Mini Cooper all have the same problem. I also have a Suzuki, and this is not a issue with it, as there is about 3 inches space between the pedals. Is it possible that because Asian designers tend to design cars for people with smaller feet, that they do not consider that North Americans are generally bigger and therefore would wear larger footwear which may cause a problem in a confined space? I am going to have the brake pedal removed, cut, and rewelded so that the pedal is about 3 inches more to the left. This will fix the problem I have, and perhaps it will save a future accident that may be worse than the one I just had. Anyone else have an insights on this issue?

I bought a brand new 2005 Mazda RX-8. I loved the car, until about 60,000 miles later when the car started stalling, even after I brought it up to operating temperature. It took about 6 trips to two different dealerships to discover that the problem was a bad engine that would need to be replaced. I was still under warranty. However, Mazda did not want to replace the engine. They said I did not properly maintain the car. After proving that I followed maint. schedules and all oil changes at Mazda dealerships, did they replace the engine. Now my new engine is at about 80,000 miles and the same problem! I need another new engine! But because my car is over 100,000 miles, Mazda will do nothing for me. They offered me loyalty offers for owning a Mazda. They refuse to acknowledge they have a poor product and to stand behind it. Because of this I will never buy another Mazda, and I suggest the same for you.

Got to love the great comment We have to verify if its on warranty 1st. In July 2010, I drove out of the Mazda dealer with my Mazda Tribute. In 2012, the back hatch lock was broken. They fixed it on warranty. Then again, this past May 2014, it broke again. They said it wasnt on warranty anymore, and it would cost $250.00, which I went ahead and got fixed. This did not seem to me like normal life of wear and tear. At the same time, my AC stopped working. They charged me another $100.00 to tell me that it could cost up to $700.00 to fix it. Again, this is not to me acceptable wear and tear. I live in Canada and use the AC 2 months out of 12. They said that the vehicle still runs the AC in winter to get the humidity out. Anyhow, I figure that if they had told me as a selling point, buy this vehicle and you will need to spend money to fix things that should be normally working given the age of the vehicle, but wont. Sign on the line please. In June 2013, I went in for some noise in the front undercarriage. They said that they had to check if the warranty was still on. Now, I drove the vehicle out for the 1st time on July 9th, 2010. They were arguing with me that it was in May, at 1st. Then, they gave me another date in mid-June. I said that I would go home and get my purchasing contract signed and dated. I came back with it, and there it was. July 9th, 2010. Still, they were not convinced. I said that any half bit lawyer would agree with me, since there it was on paper. A day later, I went back, and they said that the financial adviser had filed the wrong contracts. Imagine my surprise, they were finally willing to take my original contract as being the correct one. I am not at all satisfied with the service nor the quality of this vehicle I have at this time. I am still making payments on it, and on top of that, I need to fix things that should be almost outliving the vehicle.

A week ago I unlocked my car and opened the door to a very loud sound that was like a jackhammer or machine gun. I was alarmed, had no idea what was going on, and finally figured out it was the car stereo. I drove the car to my local mechanic, enduring horribly loud and unabated noise the whole way, and they confirmed it was the stereo. My mechanic told me to take it to Mazda, which I did. Mazda charged me $100 to take a look at the stereo, then told me it had an internal failure and would cost ME $1,050 to replace the stereo and another $150 to install it. I was appalled. My cars warranty was for three years and I have had it for three years and nine months. My problem. Not theirs. I called Mazda USA and they agreed. They added that because of my high miles they wouldnt consider chipping in to replace the stereo. Since when did miles have any wear and tear on a STEREO! Very tacky on Mazdas part. With the thought of a family not too far off in the distance, we decided that it was time to sell her 2002 Ford F-150 that she had owned since college and look for a pre-owned crossover SUV. After doing some general searching, she found that she liked the Mazda CX-7s. We did some exhaustive searching online and found a reasonably priced CX-7 being sold by a private seller in San Antonio. We received a pre-approval for financing through my employer. So that weekend, they made contact, worked out a place to meet, and on March 18, 2011, we became the owners of a 2007 Mazda CX-7 Sport. And that is where the honeymoon ended. After six months, we began to have mechanical issues with the vehicle. A diesel-sounding chug coming from the engine seemed off for an unleaded four-cylinder SUV. The vehicle had less than 60,000 miles when we purchased it and by the time we began to notice the issues, the drive train warranty had expired. I began to do some in-depth research into this year/make/model and the results I unearthed were astounding. The 2007 CX-7 has been plagued with poor craftsmanship direct from the factory. The horror stories about this vehicle are anywhere and everywhere. I even saw one to where the consumer experienced full engine failure before 30,000 miles. The common issue seemed to be a part called a VVT actuator. No recalls or service advisories had been issued for engine parts at this time. However, in January 2012, an entire half-decade after the vehicle rolled off the assembly line, we received a Variable Valve Timing Noise and Timing Chain Noise Warranty Extension notice by mail from Mazda.A month or so after we received the notice, the vehicle began leaking oil. We took our vehicle into a Roger Beasley Mazda Center and had it examined. The oil cooler on the vehicle was beginning to fail. We explained the notice that we received in the mail and they were already well aware of these issues. We were told the engine had engine sludge and with it being a second-owner vehicle, we did not have the documentation to prove that regular oil changes had been performed. Instead, all repairs and replacements would come from our own pockets. The result ended up being a need to replace the VVT actuator, the timing chain, the oil cooler, and replacing all of the gaskets. The technician showed us a side-by-side of the current timing chain and the new replacement, the used chain had literally stretched to be about half an inch longer than the replacement. We drove off the lot and hoped that the problems had been solved.Within two months of the repairs, the engine began making a high-pitched whining noise. My wife contacted the dealership that day while at work and they said to bring it in. On the way to the dealership, which is less than 10 miles away, the vehicle died on the freeway. This ended up being the result of a blown turbocharger. Again, we had to take money from our nest egg to replace yet another part on this vehicle. Mazda Corporate has been overwhelming uncooperative with patrons regarding this matter and has repeatedly declined to take ownership of their poor engineering of this particular model and instead, continuously places the blame on the purchasers of their vehicles, claiming poor maintenance has resulted in the failure of its parts. We are now hoping we can sell the vehicle to avoid the fate of so many other CX-7 owners - that of owning a giant paperweight with a $300 per month payment. This experience will lead us to never purchase a Mazda ever again and to encourage those around us to do the same.

I purchased a 2008 Mazda CX7 Grand Touring turbo in 2011 at 32K from CarMax. I was very happy with the vehicle and maintained it appropriately with oil changes etc. I am now at 78k Dec. 2014 and without warning the car started to make a loud noise and would not accelerate over 40 miles. I called CarMax about my extended warranty and was told it expired at 75K and I was at 78K. The car was taken to a reputable mechanic and when he pulled the engine down there was a massive amount of sludge on the engine resulting in cylinder head, timing belt, transmission damage. It appeared the car wasnt maintained. The engine has poor circulation of oil and although I just had an oil change 2 weeks prior to this incident it looked as if there wasnt any oil in the engine. It is irreparable. I still owe $9,000.00 on the vehicle and cant drive it. I just had hip replacement surgery and I have a disabled brother. We both depend on this vehicle and I am caught in a bad situation. It appears Mazda is aware of this problem per the complaints logged on the NHTSA website for the same make and model indicating engine problems and Mazda ignoring this issue. If I give back the car I still owe money!!! I cant afford to pay for a car and have to get one also. Buyers beware of buying a Mazda!! There is a hidden problem the company knows about and will not make good on something that they know is wrong to consumers.

Back in January, a pebble hit my windshield on my way to the airport. Needless to say, I had damage the size of a .50 cent piece. I called my insurance company and they use a TPA that replaces windshields for them. It took the company 6 weeks to install my new windshield, because every time the windshield was delivered it was cracked. Just Monday, April 25th, I am driving to work and another pebble hit my windshield. I did not think much of it, until then I saw a spider crack going up my windshield... Not again! Is there a defect with these windshields? Then, it takes 4-6 weeks for a replacement to be installed because Mazda is SO backed up from California and then they arrive broken. I would appreciate Mazda to respond and to fix this issue, as this is a serious defect! It is against the law to drive with a broken windshield. And then be told that there is a 6-8 week back order. One window replacement company told me 3 months... are you kidding me! Mazda - you need to look into a recall!!! If not, you will have class-action on your hands!

We have seen a host of complaints on the internet, including the ** website about reliability issues on relatively new Mazda SUVs. In our specific case, both the LED lights on our 2016 CX-5 went out in under 40K miles. They cost a whopping ~$1100 to replace... each! Mazda corporate replaced one, but when the second one went out at 40K, said its not a reliability issue. The entire cost of replacing just one assembly costs as much as 3 years of standard maintenance costs. Were done with Mazda. In contrast, Subaru fixed an engine issue (twice, both times well out of warranty) at their expense just to stand by their brand.

I grudgingly moved from a Jeep to my Madza CX-5....and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! The space is a little tighter than my Grand Cherokee but I haven’t really noticed. It’s very reliable and you can’t lock yourself out of the car, which is a huge bonus! It’s been a great car and I ask a lot of it! Oh, one other thing ~ I occasionally drive for Uber and a lot of times people will get in and ask me what car this is, as they are really impressed.

My car started hesitating for a couple of weeks. After my car was diagnosed and serviced for the alternator and wiring, another problem was diagnosed, a leak under the intake manifold (PCV hose). After the tuned of $1400 plus paid out, I drove it off the lot and the engine light came on. I turned around and brought it back. On 10/19/11, they kept the car. The next day the tech advised me that he drove it for 10 miles and nothing happened. My car remained with them again. They cleaned the connectors and tested the solonoid valve and they said it was okay. I picked it up on 10/20/11 and the same thing happened. They kept it. I picked it up the next day. On 10/21/11, again the light came on after leaving. I went home and called them. The tech stated it would cost me another $400.00 plus. What? I stated they should fix it because the engine light was not the problem. I brought it in for the alternator and wiring. What happened with my engine light? I took the car and went to work. There was no light on and then, the light was on, etc. Oh and by the way, they stated to me the valve with an open and shut flap could stay open or closed and I should not worry. They were lax in that statement. Do they not understand its my engine light? I have had my Mazda 6 for 5 1/2 years and never had a complaint regarding maintenance and repairs from the Mazda dealer before. What is going on? Or, is it just the Mazda dealers in Lodi, New Jersey? If theres a class action suit in the making, Im in.

2012 CX9 Transmission failure. I bought a new CX9 in 2013, primarily because we wanted a reliable car for my wife. It was a good car up until about the summer of 2019 when the transmission started to shudder in 5/6 gears. With only 118K miles, we took it to the dealer and they confirmed the torque converter was bad. So I was 18k miles past my extended warranty mileage and I was told it would cost me $3600 for a new transmission...and could be more if the front transaxle has issues. This was our first Mazda and we are so disappointed in the quality of these cars and with the response from mazda...which was no response. Ive owned many cars and never had any transmission issues of this magnitude. So going forward, I will only buy Honda or Toyota cars. Mazda should be ashamed of putting out this crap to consumers and sticking them (us) with a bill that we cant afford.

I was cheated by Mazda Marshals Milton Keynes. I took my Mazda RX8 to the dealership for a check just to sort out my issues with my CD player which wasnt working properly. Along with that, I told them that the car seems to consume a lot of fuel. They later called me back and to my surprise no value was added to my car, nothing was done to my CD and all previous faults still existed. I was charged $57 which they claim is for the inspection of the car. I then called Mazda customer service along with checking their website only to find out that Mazda does a free comprehensive car health check, the same check which I was charged for. To further worsen the matter, a week after the inspection I discovered my RX8 had issues with starting again whenever it is turned off. I usually have to wait five minutes before starting the car again. I have written to them repeatedly but no reply. Im currently getting legal advice concerning this.

I own a 2006 Mazda 6. I purchased the vehicle in September of 08 with 20,000 miles, and all remaining warranty in force. In June of 2011, the check engine light comes on, and the engine begins to make a loud noise. I immediately had the car towed to the dealer, who notified me the next day that I will need a new engine. At this point, the car has 42,000 miles on it. The cost will be $6,600 for a brand new engine; they will only provide warranty for one (1) year, and because my warranty was up a few months prior, they will not stand behind it.While speaking to somebody from the Mazda corporate office, I was given only given a “sorry about your luck” attitude. As a result of the cost, I sent the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who replaced the engine with a used engine that has warranty for three years. I was also informed that there is a well known issue with Mazda engines, but the company refuses to stand behind their product, or remedy the problem.I dont think its unrealistic to expect a vehicle to last longer than 5 years (that only has 42,000 miles, and with only 20,000 miles is mine). Clearly by just reading problems posted online, there are many issues with Mazda products. Judging from my experience, speaking to somebody from their corporate office who would neither allow me to speak to anyone with authority, or offer any resolution to the problem to keep a customer, I certainly will not be purchasing any of their products in the future, and I would advise anyone I know to look elsewhere.

I bought my 2015 Mazda CX-5 from Fox Mazda in Grand Rapids, MI in February
I bought my 2015 Mazda CX-5 from Fox Mazda in Grand Rapids, MI in February of 2018. At the time it had 31,000 miles on it. Last week, I went to start my cart and the engine started and then sputtered and died. After getting a tow, the Mazda dealership in WI (where I now live) has informed me that my high-pressure fuel pump has failed. Between the tow, labor, and parts it is going to be over $1,000 to repair an item that should not be breaking on a car with less than 50,000 miles. On top of that, the part is apparently back-ordered and I was told that it could take anywhere from a week to a month for them to get the part in. So now, I am without a car for an indeterminate amount of time as a result of fuel pump failure on a relatively new car with low miles.

I bought my Mazda CX9 used (2008) Grand Touring. Loaded. 61,420 miles on it. I bought it from a dealership that is owned by the Major Mazda dealership in our area. 3 months into ownership, my husband noticed a dark sludge like oil dripping on our garage floor. There was also a lot of rattling when you stepped on the gas and high whining. Took it right to the dealer, they sent us to Mazda. Said it was the transfer case and they would put a new one in, but it cost 1100. It took 4 weeks, maybe 5 to get it done. Got it back, and it was ok for awhile. 3 months later the same thing happened again. This time they said it was under full part warranty and they would replace it yet again at no cost. I was without my car for another 6 weeks. This was all rectified by 2013. Here it is July 2015 and I just had it diagnosed that the transfer case is AGAIN gone bad. This time there is no warranty and it is going to cost me 6000 to fix it.They told me the first time it was being replaced with a new one. Why was that cost only 1100? And now it is 6000? I am probably going to have to get another car because it just isnt worth spending that kind of money to fix a car that has 115K miles on it. I just recently put 1000 worth of four new tires, and new front left wheel bearing (300) not to mention the FOB I had to have replaced for 325.00. I am not a happy camper. I have been reading about the exact same problems others have had. There is no recourse to hold them accountable? My car was very well taken care of too.

OK, the car drives and handles well so thats why it gets two stars but otherwise owning it has been awful. The computer needs to update? Reboots in the middle of driving. No kidding, literally on the road, using the navigation I spent several hundred dollars for, the cars computer reboots. Not once, twice. I take it to the dealership, the guy says yeah, the computer needs to be updated, no big deal. Then there is the computer not recognizing my phone 9 times out of 10, including when I wanted to dial 911 to report an accident. So useful! Even when it does recognize the phone, want to play Pandora? Better have the phone on and Pandora open or else nope. Open phone and turn on Pandora after the car decides it cant find them? Nope. Not going to recognize Pandora until you turn the car off and back on again. Want to use the iPod that is literally plugged into it? Maybe. We might let you. Unless we refuse to recognize it until you reboot the iPod and turn off and on the car. Then the drivers seat ripped within a few months of purchase. I took it in, it took weeks to replace the seat. Then the plastic piece that protects the electronics under the drivers seat broke. I took it in, got it fixed, that took weeks because the part had to be ordered. It broke again. I got it fixed again. It just broke this evening, and I just dont even know what to do. I deeply regret purchasing this vehicle.

My Mother bought a brand new Mazda 626, this was a long time ago. SO long ago, that CNN news was just getting started. My mother was killed in this car while driving home from work, she hit a telephone pole at 45 mph. She was removed from the car and taken to the hospital where she died shortly thereafter. We were stymied as to what happened. No one knew, then we found out, way down the road, through CNN news that the car had a history of the ignition turning itself off if you had a heavy key ring. Of course there were accidents all over the US many fatal, some just injuries, etc. I found this out about this car, about a year or more after the accident. Recently I did a search on this Mazda 626, and I couldnt find a thing about it. Was all information removed about these cars, what happened, has Mazda fixed this problem? I hope so, as a year ago I bought a Mazda 5 which so far, has been a great little car. It took me 28 years to be able to buy a Mazda. BTW, Hasnt GM just spent a lot of time apologizing to its customers for the same problem? Wonder how many people died in the GM cars? Mazda didnt even apologize.

Since I bought this car in July of 2012 with 54000 miles, its been an amazingly reliable car. It handles really good, good acceleration and very quick. I average about 40.5 mpg with a good amount of city driving. Its a very easy and fun to drive car. I still have the original tires on it with 79000 miles and still has a little bit of tread left. We have had a 2015 Mazda CX-5 for about 6 months. Its a comfortable car and is pretty fun to drive (no comparison to my BMW X5 35d but then it was half the price!) My wife drives this car 98% of time. Most of the miles are on the Interstate. We are very unimpressed with the mpg. Claimed for the 2.5 AWD is 30 highway and 24 town with 26 avg. - we are nowhere near that. The current average is 21 mpg! Yes its been awfully cold but even my diesel Bimmer only loses -1.5 mpg average (which is still 25.5!). Ive also found the AWD to be mediocre at best. We have a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek that my oldest son drives and it is 10 times the vehicle in snow. My advice is dont believe all the magazine reviews! Apparently all the ads Mazda is running sells cars and gets good reviews. In hindsight, I would likely have been better off with the Subaru Outback or Honda CR-V. The fit finish and appeal of the CX-5 are great. But if you are most concerned about fuel economy and winter roads...keep shopping.

I bought the 2016 CX-5 grand touring with the tech package. I fell in love with how the car drove and had owned a 2013 Mazda CX-5 so I thought that I was just getting an upgrade. Well it was very late by the time we left the dealership and so they just handed me the manual and said the instructions for the navigation system was in there. I didnt need the navigation until about 2 weeks after I purchased it. When I did need it a map of San Antonio river walk kept showing up and I live in Virginia. The clock also does not work or set the time to eastern time. I took it back to the dealership but the service department does not know what is wrong with it and suggested they are going to have to tear it all apart to find the antenna. I am so mad, its beyond words. How can they sell an almost $40,000 car and say it has these features and it has none of it working.

As a Mazda customer and owner, I feel like I am being treated unjustly in regards to the recent Special Service Program warranty extension for the Mazdaspeed 6. Additionally, I had the most inexcusable and appalling experience at one of your Mazda Dealership locations.Special Service Warranty: This January, Mazda released a Special Service Program to extend the warranty coverage for the specific repair of the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) noise and/or timing chain noise concern for my vehicle. However, the warranty coverage for the specific repair is extended to 7 years from the original warranty start date or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first. The letter was broadly dated January 2012. A customer service representative named Jason informed me that the letters were sent out 1/13/2011. However, I did not receive the letter until 1/21/12, and my mileage is now 72,800.The Special Service Program letter was not received until Saturday 1/21/12. In November of 2011 is when I first started hearing the rattling/ticking noise. In your letter you describe the problem as a loud ticking noise may be exhibited from the VVT when the engine is first started at cold condition After the engine warms up, some vehicles may exhibit a knocking/rattling type noise from the front timing cover and/or valve cover at engine speeds below 2,000 rpm, due to excessive stretching of the timing chain. Following is a warning that the warranty extension does not apply if the problem is caused by poor vehicle maintenance. However, I can assure you that I have kept up to date with oil changes (using the correct weight oil), I keep a maintenance log, purchase everything from the same pep boys, and am willing to provide proof of receipts if necessary.Since November, I have been trying to explain and pin point this issue to a family friend who happens to be my mechanic. If you were to repeat the above quote to any mechanic, 100% of them would say, I need to hear the noise first. Being that you do not hear the noise 100% of the time, it has been extremely difficult to identify the repair with my mechanic until this letter came, which clearly states the root of the problem. Back in November, the car was under the 70,000-mileage limit; in fact I was still under the limit though most of December. However, I drive about 90 miles a day during my commute to and from work. By the time the letter was received, and I was finally aware of the actual problem, I happened to be 2,800 miles over the limit. After some calculations based on driving 90 miles a day, I would have first breached the 70,000 mile limit 31 days ago, or roughly around December 20. According to Jason, one of your customer service representatives, he informed me these letters were sent out on January 13, 2012. If the letters were sent out just four weeks prior then I would have been under the 70,000-mile limit. I can understand if Mazda were to deny the warranty extension for drivers with say 90,000 miles at the time of the letter. But to deny Mazda owners who are over the limit by a mere few weeks is absolutely arbitrary and uncalled for.To recognize the problem at hand and issue a Special Service Program is a start but I urge you to look at the 70,000-mile limit as a gray line, and not such a black and white one. This will help instill faith back into Mazda Owners such as myself. Please be open to understand and accept extenuating circumstances. Thousands of Americans file wrongful lawsuits everyday out of greed. My only wish is to have Mazda bear the costs of the repair. I know I am not the only Mazdaspeed6 owner in this situation and I hope others will be as persistent as me to have their opinions on the matter heard. I have a file # on record for VIN# JM1GG12L171110311 if you wish to view at your convenience.

I have previously owned 2 Mazdas. The last Mazda 6 was totaled in accident. As I recovered, I began to decide on a replacement vehicle. I was drawn to Mazda. The new 6s do not have the same sporty look as my previous 6, so I considered other styles. As we were test driving several vehicles, including a 3, the salesman pointed us to a cx-7 under the dealership awning. He pointed out the incredible deal due to the enormous vinyl windshield cover at $21,999.00. We test drove the 7 and decided on this vehicle. The salesman had us consider owning this vehicle versus another 7 with lesser options for similar retail. Inside, another man entered the cubicle to inform us that the windshield cover had been put on the wrong vehicle. I am familiar with signing and obligation, so relevance here is the constant. The vehicle was not just on the lot, but in a hot spot under the awning and according to the conversation, had been signed wrong since at least the previous day.I did not purchase a vehicle from the dealership that day or since then and have been deliberating on the most respectful way to handle this situation. I look forward to action to rectify this unusual situation.Cordially,Lucy

I bought a 2008 Mazda Cx9 two weeks ago. The blower motor went out and I saw several complaint on that because of leaking water from the driver side. Secondly, when I release the break, it makes this hard click and when you change to drive or reverse. The car has 57k miles on it and for the year, that is too many problems. They should make a recall on that blower motor and the water leaking from the a/c. I had a 2000 Tahoe with 172 miles and never had to replace any big things. This would be the last purchase for Mazda and I dont recommend it to anyone. I should have stayed with American made. Spending $20k for an auto that I have to fix two weeks later. What a piece of junk. I would like to let the owner of the Mazda to look at this two complaints. The car had only one owner and I just realized why he returned his car. Also, the motor moves when you press the gas. I dont know if that is normal, but I hope the motor doesnt drop while I am driving. Thank you, I will be waiting for a response.

I received a SSPA9 (Special Service Program) notice (gap between a instrument panel and information display) on October 2017. I called my local dealer (Scott Mazda of Allentown) three times and last call being on Feb.6 2018 and each time I was told that the parts are on backorder. I since forgot about it until today because I had to bring the car in for another common problem that a RECALL should be issued for (flickering lights while breaking) and asked about it again, but unfortunately I was informed that the SSPA9 has expired. I called Mazda customer service and was told that I shouldve brought the car to the dealer and gotten a work order to prove that I had the problem!. I wish someone had told me that the last time I called (Feb. 6 2018). Seems to me like a very convenient way to avoid paying for the repair!!!.

Mazda CX5 2015 is A PIECE of crap. I bought this car from Browning Mazda two months ago. It is about 6000 mileage. I always have long distances travel. Two days ago, this car suddenly cant be reversed in the freeway. It kept going straight. Later on it became normal again. I drove very slowly to Browning Mazda to have examination on my car. They checked it. They told me everything is fine. They couldnt find any code related to my problem. I trusted them. I took my car back. But during my last trip, same problem happened again in the freeway. I almost lost my life. So, called Mazda to toll my car back to them. They only paid for 18 miles. I paid 208 dollars to tolling company. It has been three days. They still kept my car. They said they need to have engineer to come to check my car. I dont have a car to use for three days already. They dont offer any solution. Pieces of **. Please dont risk your life to buy Mazda car. There are a lot of bad reviews for this brand.

After more than 30 years being a Toyota car owner, I made the mistake to buy a new Mazda CX9. Last week, I went to the car wash. When I came out I found out that the BSM (blind spot monitor) stop working. So I took the car to the dealer and they found out a very tiny scratch, an inch long. It wasnt a dent, not even damage the paint. But they said that this damage the computer, and they send me to their Mazda collision shop and want to charge me 1,500$ plus a new computer. UAU “Are these cars so weak?” Trying to take advantage… I dont know. But Im very disappointed. Never again Mazda. Never.
