2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited Review and Test Drive

As we inch closer to a future of more Electric Vehicles (EVs), Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are a winning recipe that touts some of the best fuel mileage numbers we’ve seen in vehicles like the latest Hyundai Elantra Hybrid.
After experiencing many variations of the new seventh generation Hyundai Elantra, including the raucous performance-oriented Elantra N, there’s a lot of respect for the brand’s compact sedan and many welcome it with open arms for the affordable segment. Now, in experiencing the new Elantra HEV, there’s even more respect earned for a vehicle that often surpasses its EPA-estimated fuel consumption numbers in the real world to best most of its competition.
The new Hyundai Elantra for its seventh generation already has an excellent platform as I have experienced in many previous reviews of the vehicle in its gas-powered non-hybrid trim levels. Having the hybrid version of the Elantra this week takes a different approach for the platform where it utilizes its sleek design to benefit from decent aerodynamics having a drag coefficient of 0.28 retaining much of the sleek looks of other trim levels. The Elantra Hybrid comes in two trim levels, Blue and Limited. My Limited trim gets updated LED headlights, a dark chrome front grille, and larger 17-inch alloy wheels.
Performance and Driving Character
Having a solid platform to work with, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid feels decent out on the road only hampered by a powertrain that isn’t very eager to get things moving. Working with the combined power output of 139 horsepower there isn’t much to inspire performance. However, the hybrid system seems to fill the power void areas of its 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that by itself produces 104 horsepower and 109 lb-ft of torque, which then equates to a total of 195 lb-ft of torque. Power is directed to the front wheels only and the transmission is a neat choice of a 6-speed automated dual-clutch that does well to manage the power where you often don’t notice the shifting, which is a good thing.
The electric motor alone can produce 43 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque which helps get the Elantra Hybrid out of the hole initially pretty well but isn’t followed up with anything substantial as you climb past 25 mph and up to 60 mph, which takes about 8.8 seconds to hit 60 mph from a stop. Fundamentally, you’re not going to win any races with the Elantra Hybrid, but it is zippy enough to not be dangerous.
The handling and ride quality seems to make up for the lackluster bit of power where the Elantra Hybrid handles well feeling like the chassis can handle a lot more along with having a decent ride quality and stability at Interstate speeds. The only fault I find in the drivetrain, apart from the Elantra Hybrid not exactly being “quick,” is the braking feel sometimes is not as seamless as I would like in its transitions from the regenerative braking and use of the friction brakes. Otherwise, the hybrid system works wonderfully keeping a decent reserve of battery power and often utilizing the battery power over the engine to retain most speeds.
The Elantra Hybrid’s sophistication is often a seamless experience where you hardly notice transitions from the electric motor to the gas engine, or gear shifts for that matter. There’s a welcomed quietness also where the Elantra Hybrid feels almost premium even with the gas engine running. When the gas engine shuts down the only sounds you hear are the eco-friendly tires and a faint bit of wind noise.
Fuel Economy
The new Hyundai Elantra Hybrid shines for its exceptional fuel economy where the EPA estimates of 49 mpg city, 52 mpg highway, and 50 mpg combined, which are often bested in real-world driving. I saw my highway figure as high as 54 mpg and in the city, I saw an average of 52.4 mpg. The hybrid system is easy to learn for its engine engagements and allows you to muster out better mpg numbers with some smart planning on your drives. With those figures, you get an exceptional range of up about 572 miles on just one 11-gallon tank of regular unleaded fuel.
The only thing I wish Hyundai would do is mark on the power meter how much throttle you can give the vehicle to utilize the battery power before it kicks over to the gas engine. Such a marking on the power gauge like Toyota does would help as far as power management to potentially get even better mpg out of the Elantra Hybrid, which is already a surprise to beat out the EPA figures.
Interior and Technology
Having covered where the new Hyundai Elantra is a winning formula for a compact sedan, I’m happy to see that the interior remains virtually the same in the new Elantra Hybrid. There aren’t any surprising aspects about the Interior being any different than other Elantra gas-powered non-hybrid trims in the new Elantra HEV. There’s a welcoming space in the cabin of the Elantra with a surprising amount of space for a compact sedan and a lot of forward and rearward adjustment for the heated and ventilated front seats allowing you to find the optimal driving position – even for someone who is over 6 feet tall like myself.
There’s the welcomed infotainment system in the Elantra Hybrid featuring the 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster replaces where the RPM gauge is usually displayed with the hybrid power meter.
In the area of safety, the new Elantra Hybrid comes with all of the expected active safety features minus a surround-view 360 camera in place of a traditional rearward camera view, which removes the availability of the clever live-view blind-spot monitor system. Otherwise, you still have the welcoming blind-spot monitors, lane departure warning/keep assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, forward collision warning/emergency braking, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and smart cruise control with stop & go and a highway driving assist feature.
Price
Further making the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid a winning recipe, the pricing for the base Blue trim starts at just $24,400 whereas the loaded-up Elantra Hybrid Limited trim comes in at $29,000 before any fees where you will be expected to pay almost $31,000 when you tally up the destination/freight charges.

I bought this Hyundai Elantra new from the dealer on 2014. It doesnt even have 47000 miles and the passenger door handle paint, which is rarely used, is already peeled off and according to the dealer the body paint is already out of warranty (yeah! And they claim to have the best warranty). I just looked over the Internet and it was a court dismisses peeling paint class action against Hyundai on 2017, I dont know the reason this was dismissed but evidently they continue doing this sloppy body paint in all their cars, this and many others complaints from the customers with zero acceptability from Hyundai have convinced me that this is a company I cannot trust so this is gonna be my last Hyundai car.

Be aware of this when you pay for the services. They truly stink for taking yearly service contract and not delivering a better product.

I was on my way to work this morning and a tractor trailer nearly slammed me from behind. Later, I was flagged by a woman, who nearly ran into the back of me, and told that I had no break lights. Now I knew why the tractor trailer nearly ran me over in the morning. I went home and checked everything; bulbs, fuses, connections, and pedal. No brakes. So, I looked online for possible reasons for this and found that Hyundai had a major recall for this thing called the break relay switch. So, I looked for something that would show me where it is, how to change it, and possible other reasons for the problem. Nothing. Next, and finally, I called Hyundai and asked if there has been a problem. I was told that there is nothing that they can do and that I should go to the dealer for a check. The woman on the phone told me there are no recalls on my 2011 Hyundai Accent. I asked her if it turned out to be this switch issue that has resulted in the massive recalls for other model years, would they reimburse me or approve me to repair this and she stated that Hyundai would not. I told the lady that this is my 4th Hyundai and I have had few issues. However, losing both brake lights at the same time for no apparent reason is suspect. I am very displeased that, in spite of the million recalls for a seemingly identical problem, they would not reimburse me or approve repairs to it if it is indeed the problem. It is a shame that a loyal customer of a product and who has spent almost $100K with a company, is not honored for the loyalty given. It will be a shame for Hyundai if, for the price of a $10 part and service charge, they lose a customer. So, Hyundai, if you read this, tomorrow I am going to follow your advise and drive my car to the dealer. If they tell me it is the brake relay switch, I will trade my car in and never purchase another vehicle from your company if you or dealer do not do the right thing for a part that seems to be responsible!
Leased my third Hyundai in February, 2020 one month early because my dealer
Leased my third Hyundai in February, 2020 one month early because my dealer had the SUV that we wanted. Turned in 2017 Sonata and owed a total of $1,600.00 for mileage and last month. Paid 3 weeks early and they said it hasn’t been paid. I sent a copy of bank check, front and back to Hyundai finance that was cashed. I’ve called five times and they don’t know where the money was applied. It’s coming up on three months past due per Hyundai finance. My credit rating has went from 800 to 640. I’ve contacted the Better Business Bureau and the dealer. I will never buy/lease another Hyundai again. Once my lease is up, I will be returning the vehicle and leasing a different vehicle, if my credit is repaired by then. My last resort is contacting my attorney if I get nowhere with Better Business Bureau or the dealer. This has been a nightmare and I would advise staying away from Hyundai and their financial department.

I am writing to you today regarding my Hyundai Sonata Hybrid that I bought brand new in August 2016. It’s been less than 2 years and we already had to take our vehicle to the mechanic 4 times to the Hyundai maintenance service. After going to Hyundai mechanics numerous times they are still uncertain about the fault in my vehicle. My wife and I have been very disappointed with our first Hyundai Sonata. Numerous times we have gone back to the Hyundai maintenance shop to attempt to have our vehicle fixed, which then follows up with me getting a rental car for the day. The very following next day I have to pick up my car again as the mechanic tells me the issue is resolved but it’s not. I’ve listed the days below for details when my Sonata has malfunctioned.Heading from Santa Clara to San Francisco about 40 miles drive. Was looking for parking and when in the middle of the road my vehicle decided to stop without any warning. It wouldn’t start and we had to wait about 20-25 minutes for my car to start again. We followed up with Hyundai the next day and they said they didn’t find any issues with it. Therefore I wasn’t able to have any record of it in the Hyundai maintenance system.The second time it occurred when my wife and I were heading to Long Beach for our Babymoon. Our issue happened multiples times during our trip. Every time we stopped by at the gas station our vehicle malfunctioned. We had to wait 30 minutes before the car would start again. At that time I felt very unsafe as I had my pregnant wife with me and was hoping the car wouldn’t stop while I was driving. Due to the malfunction, our trip was not only delayed but dangerous for my wife.During this time they had found a fault in the vehicle and had to replace BMS. Invoice number ** on Feb 7th 2018. Our third accident happened after getting my vehicle back from the maintenance, I had to go to SF Airport to pick up my friend and the car stopped again! Replaced OPU, OL Pump Unit. We have owned a 2003 Hyundai XG350 since new. It now has less than 30,000 miles on it and we recently noticed that the airbag light was on and it needs an inspection sticker. We were told that the airbag issue would have to be repaired before the car would pass inspection. The service manager (Frank) told us that he has seen several of these problems in the XGs and that to repair it properly, it would require a new wiring harness for around $500. I commented to him that this sounds like an engineering defect on Hyundais part, and that they should repair this at their cost. Hyundai refused.

My vehicle is a 2009 Atos. It is still under warranty. I waited approximately five months for a reverse light switch to be replaced; the brakes have been skimmed twice in this time due to a brake shudder. When asked if this was normal, I was told that replacing the brakes would be very expensive and that they would find out. I dealt with Lisa and Tamryn as well as other workshop staff including the w/shop manager, and they indicated that they would find out if the brake situation was normal. They still have not come back to me in this regard -- it was two weeks ago. My vehicle went in for rust removal. Since I got it back, there has been wind whistle through the windows. When I received the customer service call after the service inquiring if I was satisfied with everything, I indicated that I was not and explained in terms of the wind whistle. I still have not had any response from anyone at this dealership.

My Hyundai Accent is less than two years old and has traveled only 14,000 kms. At my last service in May I advised the service center that a hole has appeared in my drivers side floor mat. I thought this was unusual due to the low kms and the fact that I mainly drive in bare feet not big boots. A claim was initiated and I was advised that it was denied as it was wear and tear. I could accept this if I had done a lot of kms in the vehicle however only 14,000 kms is not satisfactory. I have over the years owned a number of cars of various brands and travelled in excess of 200,000 kms in most with no similar problems. Is the construction of Hyundais so CHEAP AND NASTY that a carpet will wear out in such a short time. I had intended in keeping the vehicle but now think ILL REPLACE IT WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN A HYUNDAI.

When I would stop at a traffic light, my Sonata would jerk and sputter then cut off, then I would have to start it back up and put it in gear go, then I would come to another light and it would do the same thing, but none of the check engine lights ever came on. Then yesterday, I was driving and trying to pass a car. I noticed that the car would not go past 60 mph and the tech only got up 4000 rpm, so I pulled off to the side of the road where the car stopped on me. So, I started it up, but then none of the gears would work, and I noticed that one of the check engine lights came on, so while I was waiting for a tow truck, I started the car several times. Each time that I started the car, none of the gears would work and none of the check engine lights were on.

Hyundai is the most morally corrupt of all car manufacturers. In my experience, our 2002 Elantra had multiple catastrophic failures under warranty. This could have resulted to injury or death, since the failures occurred while the car was in traffic. The first three occurrences were due to defective fuel injection. After three attempts by a completely inept dealer (Antwerpen of Clarksville, MD), it was finally fixed. The most recent was the breaking off yet again in traffic of a highly corroded front control arm, leaving left front tire separated from the axle and the car out of control. There was a recall issued in 2009 (ID# 09v125000) for this very problem. Antwerpen claimed to have done the recall work on my car when I took it in to them for service in February 2010 but the failure occurred despite this. They tell me now that all they are obligated to do is to repair the vehicle. I feel this car will never be safe to drive and I have asked them to give me a fair financial offer for buying back this defective car at its present value. This has been rejected.

The steering wheel on my Entourage is cracking and splitting. At 75,000 miles, I am told this is cosmetic and not covered under warranty. Also, the plan (painless dent removal) that I paid for $600 expired. I purchased the van in July 2008. I purchased a 5 year plan. Somehow in May 2006, it has expired. I purchased an extended warranty plan (at the dealer) for 10 years 100,000 miles and it covers nothing. The paint in certain areas is fading and the lights are looking as they have been etched with some type of chemical. The dealer representative’s solution is to buy a new vehicle. I took the van in for some issues and they wanted to charge me $800 plus for unneeded items. They did replace the defective door latches (a recall item no one informed me of). Luckily for me, citric cleaner and a magic eraser cleaned the mechanic’s greasy handprints off my doors and back seat. This is my second Hyundai. My brother and my mother have purchased Hyundai because I recommended them. The warranty company and dealer wont return my calls. Somehow, they are always in meetings and/or just left for the day. The consumer rep that I spoke to tell me I have been misinformed, mistaken and incorrectly advised (basically lied to). He apologized several times. Hearing me out (a mental enigma) does not help me. His advice was to go over my contracts. I did. My supreme plans are supposed to cover everything. My paint plan was supposed to last until 07/15/2013. The only thing they are interested in is selling me another vehicle. What would you do? I am not having a good time here.

I purchased my first Hyundai two years ago! After hearing nothing but glowing reviews about the company and the cars dependability. Sadly I cant say I have seen any of that! After 12+ trips to your dealerships for service issues this purchase has left me with nothing but regret. I have taken my vehicle to two separate dealerships in Nashville in hopes of receiving better service. I have time and time again been left disappointed. The car dies while driving down the road and all anyone can tell me is that it must be bad gas or Im letting it get too low before refilling. They have even given me lesson on how to pump gas which is an insult to my intelligence. My touch screen dash went out only to get replaced with a dash that was even more broken than the one I drove in with. I was left to drive around with a none functioning dashboard till yet another could be ordered. Recently after taking it to an outside mechanic even more issues were brought to my attention that in all the times your dealers have had the car were never even mentioned to me! The recall work on my rear brakes (which I was never even informed had been recalled!) wasnt holding up my rear brakes were still malfunctioning and causing wear to my front brakes. In addition to the fact that my cars rotational tires were on backwards! It saddens me to think a company so well noted for its customer service in the twelve times it had my car never took the time to even look at my car long enough to notice such simple things as tires and brakes! This level of neglect has made me feel unsafe to drive a car from a company who can take my safety and the safety of others on the road so carelessly for granted. I initially purchased the car for 16,995 before taxes and now less than two years later they are telling me the value of my car is a mere 8,995. Seeing as how no one has stepped up and taken accountability for these issues it seems my only choice is to go online and post reviews. I just dont understand how this level of service has become acceptable? What happened to your morals and value?

I love my Tucson Crossover. It has Bluetooth connection, got a nice back end trunk thing, its got enough room for your kids, got side mirrors to help with your blind spot and back up camera. Also, the back trunk has a lot of room to put anything you need in. But I wish there was the lane checker and automatic brakes and the display screen that lets you hook your phone up to it so you can use your phone on your screen.

I have a 2019 Veloster with the Silver Coverage Plan which include electrical repairs. My car would not start after just parking it less than 5 minutes earlier. I had it towed to Happy Hyundai in Oak Lawn, IL and two days later I was informed by Hyundai that my car needed a lock cylinder and ignition switch but it wasnt covered by the warranty because it appeared to the mechanic that force was administered but in the same breath the mechanic told me to use a screw driver to start my vehicle. This Hyundai Dealership and manufacturers warranty are unethical. Im sure a recall will surface about this same issue but until then, customers will be held responsible.

Well, after the paperwork was completed the salesman tried to sign us up on the MyHyundai site. The registration would not go through and they requested a bunch of documents, I suppose to prove we actually bought the car. Now, three days later, they are still not happy and want copies of mine and my wifes drivers licenses. Well, I am so insulted by Hyundai customer service I wish I could take the car back. I pray I never have a real problem, I can just imagine how I will be treated. Starting to look for an aftermarket remote start for my new 36k Hyundai.

Its very comfortable and room for 5, plus great storage with the back seats folded down {I can even get my golf clubs and cart in the back}. The electronic features are very good. It gives a feeling of safety and convenience.Sound system is better than I would have thought for a smaller car. I would buy again.

My car only got 7,000 KM. The trouble with my Elantra, my battery goes dead and have been boosted twice and another time it went completely dead. Had it towed to the nearest dealer. This is a new Hyundai Elantra Limited when it had less than 6,000 KM it started but I had a 2012 which I had the same problems, so I traded for another one. I was told my 2012 had a ground issue. Now I know that I been lied to. Going to my dealer he tell me that the alternator is a low amperage alternator to save weight, and I should consider getting a solar panel and plug it in my cigarette lighter to charge my car. Now I drive some days around 20 KM which should be plenty to charge the battery, and I hardly use any electronics, like listen to the news 20 minutes. Now I dont trust this car because I dont know when Im going to be stranded. Now my Elantra got 7,000 KM and I dont dare to play the radio even to listen to the news, should I get a portable radio with batteries and a solar panel. By the way, once every two weeks I go on a 200Km ride. People are telling me Im being lied to. I have since notified Hyundai head office in Ontario, the phone # is in one of the manuals that I got with the car. Its been two months and no reply yet. They got my email address. Wont even send me an email, so I call again today.October/24/2014, I purchase this car I believe April/9/2014. This car is like you say new, I purchase an extended warranty which I told them I had purchase one from GM and it was worthless. $2400 and they told me that they werent GM, that you could trust Hyundai and they stick to their warranty. It was about a little bit over $1600. My, I dont know what to believe. Am I told lies? We will soon find out and Im about ready to go throughout my iPad just what the problems are about my warranty. I have a 2007 Elantra. First, I had to replace the rack and onion at 75000 miles, which is highly unusual for a vehicle. Of course it was just 10k over mileage to be under the warranty. The certified Hyundai dealer told me this was the problem and I had it replaced but the steering still felt sloppy and I made them keep looking. When they finally looked at it they realized the bearings in the steering shaft were worn. They were going to charge me for this but I told them I just paid 1200 for a fix I may not have needed and the dealer did not charge. When I came in to pick up the car the dealer as Lee said they would cover it under the power train -- I still havent figured out how the steering column is covered and the rack was not. I also reported this to Consumer Affairs and they listened but didnt do anything to make it right. Now the car has 85,000 miles on it and it has stalled out when Im going slow or idling. Its happened about 4 times in 6 months and it is very dangerous because its so random. I hate my Hyundai and will never buy another one. Its a great warranty on a piece of junk.

Ever since I bought this car three years ago, I have had nothing but problems. When I turn the steering wheel left or right, in both drive and reverse, it car sounds like you are going up a roller coaster. It clicks so loud! I have replaced tie rods, CV joints, and anything else that was the cause for the clicking over the last 3 years and the car still makes this noise. No one can seem to figure that issue out. In three years, I have replaced the tires 4 times, the brakes 7 times, multiple studs and bolts, and the rotors three times. Its like the car eats anything tire & brake related! Last year I began experiencing what could only be described as the car losing power right in the middle of driving.Also when I would turn the car on, it was so incredibly loud that I thought it was going to fly away or explode. While driving it would jerk so hard to where I thought I was going to break down. It would get stuck staying around 3000 rpm and wouldnt shift past that so going faster than 50 was hard and scary because it felt like the car was going to shut down and sounded like it was going to overheat or blow up. This was brought to the attention of Laurel Hyundai and I was informed that an engine recall was opened on my vehicle, but nothing could be done until the car actually stalled out, caught on fire, the check engine light stayed on, or began showing the required symptoms of engine failure under the recall qualifications.On May 7th of this year, I was driving up hill going approximately 40 mph on a very busy road. I was approaching a stop light and when I went to start slowing down, every light on the dashboard lit up, the car stalled, I couldnt turn the steering wheel, and I couldnt stop the vehicle! The brakes wouldnt even work! I started rolling down the hill backwards and applied my emergency brake. Since my foot was still on the brake, I was able to put the car in park after it stopped rolling backwards and I turned the car off. I tried turning the car on three times and it wouldnt turn over. I tried the fourth time and the car turned on, but the oil lamp light was blinking and the check engine light was illuminated.Mind you I had my 7 year old twin daughters in the car with me when this happened! I immediately drove it to Laurel Hyundai. I was told the car would need to be tested for some sort of noise and if it failed that the engine would need replaced under the engine recall. It did fail the test and I was told that it could be two weeks or two months before they would get the new engine in and I would get my car back. I was given a rental car that got 12 mpg and cost $72 dollars to fill up each week. I did not get my car back until May 31. I only drove it from the dealership back to my house, which is less than 2 miles away. I parked the car and did not drive it again until the next morning when went to get gas. When I started backing out of my driveway, I noticed a giant puddle of oil.I also noticed that when I would apply the brakes, the brake pedal would make a noise, almost like a rubbing click, like there was air in the brake line. Not only could you hear the noise outside of the car, but you could feel it in the brake pedal. Less than 18 hours after getting my car back I had to immediately take it back to the dealership. On my way there the car started making a very loud clanking noise. I parked the car and 3 salesman, the lot manager, and another customer heard and confirmed the clanking noise and the oil leak. It was suggested that it sounded like a heat shield or even a tool being left somewhere in the engine when it was replaced. Because it was Saturday the service department was closed.I was told that I would need to just come back on Monday when the service department opened. The lot manager told me that it wasnt safe to drive the vehicle with it leaking that amount of oil because it could catch on fire. I also did not want to drive the vehicle until Monday because I did not want to make the clanking noise any worse! The lot manager did help me out and provided me with another rental to drive. I asked if the rental could be something more efficient on gas because I just filled up the last rental car that I had the day before, which cost me $74 dollars, and just put $40 in gas in my car and I was not going to fill up a third car. He obliged and gave me one of their vehicles from the lot as a rental.I was contacted on Monday and told that it was leaking oil and it would be fixed and that the noise was from bad front brakes. I just had brand new brakes and tires put on the car in January of this year so I did not believe that, but like I mentioned before, the car literally destroys tires and brakes beyond anything that can be considered normal wear and tear. I was given my car back the next day and sent on my way. On June 24th I had to take the car back because it was still leaking oil!! They fixed the leak for a second time and I was given my car back the same day and told again that the noise was from bad front brakes. A few weeks later, the check engine light came on.I immediately drove the vehicle to the dealership and I was told that the diagnostic test said it was just a loose gas cap and the light was cleared and I was sent on my way. I was a little unsure about this but I had just gotten gas the day before and was told the new computer update made this sort of issue very sensitive to the car and easy to pick up. I had the brakes and rotors replaced on the front of the car since I was told they were bad and the cause of the noise, and yet the vehicle still continues to make the clanking noise. The only issue that was fixed from changing the brakes is that there no longer is the noise coming from the brake pedal and under the car when I apply the brake pedal.On September 17, the car began driving the way it was prior to the engine replacement; trouble shifting, making the loud noise when I turn it on, lacks power when it reaches around 3000 rpm, all those same, nice engine failure symptoms. On Friday evening, September 20, the check engine light came back on and is still on. I know it cant be a loose gas cap because I havent put gas in the car since September 13. I tried to call the dealership on Saturday the 21st and no one answered so I left a message for the lot manager to please return my call. I am so highly frustrated and seriously concerned about mine and my childrens safety while driving this vehicle! Not to mention, Im very wary on taking the car back to this service department.This vehicle has had nothing but issues and 7 recalls on the vehicle, the most important being the engine which I dont even feel like was replaced. Terrible vehicle and service. I will never buy another Hyundai again. Also, Ive tried filing a second complaint with Hyundais Corporate office and the website tells me that my VIN cant be identified or is invalid even though I am typing in the correct VIN and have no issues looking the car up by the VIN on any other website. Therefore, I cant file a complaint with them until Monday during normal business hours via telephone.

Took it to the closest dealership on my next day off who called me the NEXT day to tell me that I could come and get the car, but its not fixed because they dont have a fault code to be able to fix an issue, even though they can clearly see that the car isnt running correctly. Car is still under warranty, but wont run, and Im supposed to just bring it home??? Does that make any sense to you?? IDIOTS! Then the service advisor goes as far as to try and sell me a tune-up... ON A CAR THAT WONT RUN! RIDICULOUS!Customer care, not much help there either. They tell me a manager will contact me in 3 to 5 business days. I also bought an extended warranty that NO ONE CAN FIND under my VIN #. How does that work? Every other manufacturer has always been able to see my warranty info listed by the VIN#.... why not Hyundai? All this sounds like HUGE runaround tactics to me. You got me once Hyundai, but never again. Should have stuck to HONDA, Ive had 3 of them and never any issues. Very dissatisfied.

WHY I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER HYUNDAI / KIA. (With sincere apologies to anyone I ever influenced into purchasing one). The primary reason I will never own another Hyundai or Kia, or recommend anyone else ever own one, is that they, in spite of their supposed great quality, are inferior products!! Please understand that I do NOT consider this the fault of the dealerships or dealership service departments with whom I have interacted; they have all been very professional, competent, and friendly. This comes down to the fact that the basic cars are junk from the factory and overall quality of the manufacturing is extremely deficient. To wit:I purchased my first Hyundai Sonata, a 2006 with a V-6 engine, in August 2006. It had ten miles on the odometer primarily because I took it for a 2 mile test drive before I bought it. I loved the ride, handling, and everything about the car. When I bought the car, fortunately I negotiated a 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty as part of the purchase. In addition, I purchased the 5-year hard-simonizing that also treated the interior fabric. I was planning on driving the car for many years and have regularly maintained it with that in mind.I very carefully broke-in the engine according to the recommendations in the owners manual driving it at a certain rpm for so many miles, etc. It now has just over 117,000 miles. Much of my driving during that time has been highway driving. I have faithfully changed the oil and filters every 5,000 miles. I flushed the engine coolant as recommended as well as had the transmission serviced as recommended. Most of this has been performed by the local Hyundai dealership or by one in Dayton when the Richmond, IN dealer from whom I originally purchased the car went out of business. I have the receipts to prove my ongoing care of the car. Each time I had the car serviced, the dealer did a multi-point inspection of the vehicle and reported all known issues to me. For the first year or so, I was very happy with the car, and recommended Hyundais to others. (As noted, for that I now apologize to them.)Following are the primary issues that I have had with my 2006 Hyundai: 20,500 miles, 11 months after purchase, left front door armrest had to be replaced because the first one cracked, making a popping noise (warranty replacement). 25,500 miles, 1 year 2 months after purchase, noted that A/C system does not seem to be putting out cold air properly, an ongoing problem that has never been resolved to my satisfaction. Dealer continues to claim that system checks out properly; air in this Sonata is not as cool or does not cool as quickly as the second Sonata described below. 25,500 miles, left front door trim backing must be replaced because it is cracked which continued to cause the popping noise described above (warranty replacement). 33,700 miles, 1 year 10 months after purchase, I complained that at times the drivers side window had a scraping noise as it went up and down. (No resolution at this time.)55,400 miles, 3+ years after purchase, both drivers side front seat switch and power mirror switch were inoperable and had to be replaced. (warranty replacement). 61,600 miles, 4 years 1 month after purchase, coil assembly on engine cylinder 1 had to be replaced (warranty replacement). 63,900 miles, 4 years 2 months after purchase, coil assembly on engine cylinders 3 and 5 had to be replaced (warranty replacement). 78,000 miles, 5 years 4 months after purchase, power steering system dampner fell apart and had to be completely replaced (warranty replacement). 82,500 miles, 5 years 8 months after purchase, A/C compressor had to be replaced. In addition, the drivers side window (complained about earlier but not repaired at that time) RF regulator had to be replaced because now not only was there a scraping noise when the window was lowered but also the window would not come back up without help. It was also determined that my headlights were noticeably dimming because the positive cable assembly needed to be replaced but that was expensive and would not be covered under warranty since it was not broken or had not caused the lights to stop working. (Warranty replacement on A/C compressor and window RF regulator; headlights continue to this day to dim noticeably when engine slows down).87,000 miles, 6 years after purchase, replaced drivers side rear door latch and actuator assembly because auto door lock stopped working (warranty replacement). 101,000 miles, 7 years after purchase, and just beyond the warranty period, the alternator had to be replaced (out of pocket expense). Headlights still dim noticeably when the engine slows down.116,500 miles, the engine temperature and interior heater started acting up in a strange way. At first I thought it was a failed engine thermostat which is kind of how it was acting. So I replaced the thermostat. (Even the dealer mechanic later agreed that is the first thing he would have replaced.) In removing the housing that contained the thermostat, one of the three bolts broke off completely just as I was beginning to put torque on the head. This is supposedly a grade-8 bolt. I doubt it! I have never had a thermostat cover bolt break off in over 50 years of driving and working on cars and I have changed a few thermostats in that time. So what should have been a 30 minute job took half-a-day to remove the broken bolt which then required removing more of the hoses than would have otherwise been needed in order to access the broken bolt. Thank goodness it broke off such that I was able to remove it with vice-grips and thus did not have to drill it out to use an EZ-Out, which would have required a lot more time.117,000 miles, the Hyundai is now at the dealer. The dealer mechanic found the reason why the heating system on my Hyundai with the V-6 engine with only 117,000 miles was acting strangely. It had two warped heads. The dealer has no explanation for the problem. The engine had to be replaced. I was unable to purchase a re-manufactured engine, much less a new engine, because Hyundai stopped manufacturing or stocking needed replacement engine parts over a year ago, thus the necessary parts to properly re-manufacture an engine, much less purchase a new engine, are no longer available. Therefore the only solutions were to replace the heads and hope that the current engine block was not damaged, or install a used engine from a salvage yard. The local Hyundai dealer (Wetzel Hyundai in Richmond, IN) has just finished installing a used engine with 78,000 miles on it, 1 year, 12,000 mile warranty. Out of pocket cost - $4,300 with a $200 coupon or it would have been $4500. If you wish to consider the above repairs routine maintenance that is your choice. I do not. I consider it poor manufacturing quality for which I never plan to own another Hyundai or Kia. If you are not convinced by the above related experiences, read on.During the first year of ownership, I loved everything about my 2006 Hyundai Sonata, so much so that I made the mistake of buying a 2007 Sonata for my wife, to replace the 1997 Plymouth Breeze with over 230,000 miles she was driving. I purchased the 2007 Sonata used. It had been owned by one of the salesmen at the dealership whose wife drove it from Richmond to Indianapolis and back each work day. She got pregnant and wanted an SUV by the time the baby arrived, so the salesman was selling the car as part of a trade-in with the dealer for whom he worked at the time. The 2007 has a 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine; I purchased the car with 7,275 miles on it. While I did have it hard-simonized with the additional interior protection, I did not purchase an additional warranty I just went with the standard Hyundai warranty of 60,000 miles/7 year bumper-to-bumper and 100,000 miles/10 year power train.When it was still new, everything worked fine. It now has 84,560 miles on it. Just like the 2006 Sonata above, I have had one dealer or the other perform all of the recommended maintenance on the vehicle on a timely basis. I have all of the maintenance invoices to prove it for both cars. In addition, I washed them, or had them washed, somewhat regularly. I took them through the car wash on a regular basis, particularly in the winter after a snowstorm, and always added the underbody wash as well, to wash off the road salt to some degree.Below is a listing of all the things that have gone wrong with that car one continuous stream of ridiculous failures after another due to poor manufacturing quality:24,500 miles, 2 years 2 months after purchase, power seat control switch had to be replaced because of a short in the switch (warranty replacement). 24,500 miles, 2 years 2 months after purchase the rear brake caliper on the passenger side seized, causing me to have to replace the caliper and rotor as well as brake pads on that wheel. No warranty considered normal wear and tear. 29,000 miles, 2 years 6 months after purchase, mirror switch had to be replaced because short in switch caused both mirrors to adjust intermittently (warranty replacement). 35,000 miles, 3 years after purchase, en route to North Carolina in August, the A/C stopped working. A/C compressor totally locked up and had to be replaced (Johnson Hyundai of Cary, NC treated us very well) (warranty replacement).46,600 miles, 4 years after purchase, mirror switch had to be replaced again because of a short in the switch causing the powered mirrors to be totally inoperable (warranty replacement). 68,000 miles, 5 years after purchase, door hanger handle on front passenger side broke off and had to be replaced. (Parts - $30, self-replaced). 70,700 miles, 6 years 4 months after purchase, engine oil pan rusted out and had to be replaced. This was not under warranty; considered to be routine maintenance. (In over 50 years of driving including several cars for over 200,000 miles, I have never, ever had to replace an engine oil pan before.)73,800 miles, 6 years 7 months after purchase, the transmission pan rusted out and had to be replaced. This was also not under warranty; considered to be routine maintenance. (Again I say, in over 50 years of driving, several cars for over 200,000 miles, I have never, ever had to replace a transmission oil pan before. Remember, too, that in winter I regularly run the cars through the car wash to include the underbody wash to get off the road salt and grime underneath the car.) I wrote to Hyundai corporate about the two pans rusting out; the only response I received was a email reply that essentially said, We are sorry you are unhappy with our product.In addition to the specific instances at certain dates and mileages noted above, there are other problems with the 2007 Sonata listed below for which I do not have a corresponding date or mileage but which are ongoing issues: Power mirrors continue to be problematic; no one seems to be able to fix them properly. Now out of warranty so are now essentially manual adjust set and do not touch! Seek function on the radio does not work on AM and only marginally on FM. A little annoying when traveling and attempting to find radio stations en route. Neither sun visor stays in place; currently being held up by bungee cords wrapped around the sun visors and the door hanger handles so that they do not inadvertently drop down into the drivers vision. Because of the embedded courtesy lights in the visors, dealer replacement for each one is in the hundreds of dollars. First the drivers side broke and then a few months later the passenger side malfunctioned.The powered door lock on the passengers side rear door works only intermittently not tied to weather or temperature or any such phenomenon. Half the time it works and the other half it does not. Recently, the drivers side front door has begun to act up on occasion and fails to lock. For over a year now, the cruise control set button typically requires that it be pushed several times before it will engage. I must assume that one of these days it will stop working and I will no longer have cruise control without another expensive replacement/repair.Recently, when replacing the front brake pads and rotors, one of the bolts holding the bracket that holds the caliper in position was extremely difficult to remove. It turns out the bolt was somewhat cross-threaded. Since these rotors had never been replaced until now, it means that the bolt was cross-threaded at the factory during initial installation. My guess is that I will have to soon replace the caliper on that side as it did not easily compress during the repair. I simply do not have the extra money or time needed to fix the ongoing problems, so my wife (especially) will just have to put up with the inconveniences for who knows how long.Brakes: I have had to replace brake pads, and rotors on occasion, much more frequently than I think should be the case. However, I blame that more on our intrusive government controlling our lives in order to protect us from ourselves than on Hyundai. Under the old system of asbestos brake pads, I routinely got 60,000 miles or more out of a set of brake pads (as well as a set of tires). With the Sonatas, I am lucky to get 40,000 miles usually more like 30,000 miles out of a set of brake pads. The only complaint I have with respect to Hyundai is that rotors, when needed to be replaced which also seems to be more frequent than should be the case seem to cost twice as much (from one of the local auto parts stores) than rotors for other brands of automobiles with some notable exceptions. Also, of late, I have begun to have additional incidences of the brake caliper pistons beginning to stick and freeze up meaning I will soon be replacing brake caliper assemblies.I will tell you that I emailed this letter to Hyundai Customer Care and told them that I would give them a week to respond before I sent it to everyone on my email lists and published it as widely as possible over the internet. Customer care did call me a few days later. All they could offer was a case number that indicated that this would be routed to the appropriate offices for consideration on future models. They offered no assistance regarding any of my issues with my Hyundais nor was there any hint of doing so in the future. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they wasted my time and theirs with a phone call. Basically they called to inform me of the case number which is useless since they have no intention of doing anything. The lady who called me obviously had no authority or power to do anything. When I suggested that she put me through to the President of the company, she told me that there was no phone number for the corporate office although I was welcome to contact them by mail. According to her, not even Hyundai Customer Service has a number for the corporate offices in California. A couple of weeks later, another Customer Care Representative, Brian, called me. Again, it was a waste of both of our times. He did offer to send me some discount coupons for the needed repairs on the 2007 sun visors. I guess since that did not satisfy me and I plan to broadcast this letter as far and wide as possible, I never received any discount coupons.Once again, (as stated above with respect to the oil and transmission pans on the 2007 Hyundai) their primary response was, I am sorry you are unhappy with our product. In essence, their response is, We really dont care about our customers, we just try to make them think we do! They evidently have learned what P.T. Barnum proclaimed many years ago, There is a sucker born every minute. It took roadside assistance 2.45 hours to get me and tow my car to the dealership. This happened July 16, 2016. Today is July 26 and the response that I am getting from the service center is that there are major computer problems thats causing the issue and they are working with technicians from Hyundai to get it fixed. They do not know when this will be done. I did some research and saw that there was a recall on the same vehicle prior to the manufacture date of my vehicle. I also experienced an issue with the ABS brakes. When I am stopped in traffic the brake will release and I have to press harder on the brake for the car to stop rolling. Oh, this is also caused by the computer failure. From what I have read thus far on this site, and carcomplaints.com this seems to be a reoccurring...major issue and it appears that Hyundai does not know what or how to fix it. I am very upset about this whole situation right now. Paying for a car that I cant drive. Im concerned that this will continue to be a safety issue and Hyundai has no idea how to repair it. In the middle of dealing with death in the family and having to travel out of town, I was given a loaner, but they did not want me to drive that one out of state (NC), so they gave me a rental. Its a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and would you believe that I have to go trade that car out for another vehicle today because the engine light is on. I contacted Hyundai myself to see if I could get any answers, they said they were unaware of the issue and opened a case. They said they will allow the dealership 3-5 business days to respond and would get back with me. At what point does this become a serious recall issue and we as consumers get this resolved.

After he did some research, said this was a known problem, by Hyundai, with the 2.4 L engines. Its time to stand up and voice your concerns to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Please make sure you file your complaint with the FTC too by visiting their websites. They need to know about how Hyundai is treating their customers and lying to the public. Please note, I have tried to contact the people at the corporate office and they will only forward your concerns back to consumer affairs. The same people who dont care to resolve your complaint. Then when I went to a fuel station to refuel, some people told me that there was a continuous heavy gasoline discharge from the underneath of the car. Inspecting the gasoline source, I found it coming through a hole in the fuel tank caused by that little stone which had hit the underneath of the tank. Inspecting the hole, I found a linear crack intersecting with a circular hole. I had a technician dismounted the fuel tank, soldered it, and re-mounted it.Here, I want to express my deep astonishment for a hole to happen to a car fuel tank by a little stone hit, since a stone hit is a very likely thing to happen to a moving car and must logically be taken account for during the tank design. Being still subject to the possibility of the danger of solder failure, which is a very high dangerous matter, this was fuel explosive and fire hazard for my family if the problem was not detected and repaired.I am asking you to: 1. Search for the cause of such damage, so as not to happen again to other people. 2. To remount a new fuel tank for my car.

I purchased a new 2012 Hyundai Sonata from the Liberty Hyundai dealership in New Hudson, MI and experienced engine problems about a year later. I took the car into the dealership and was told I would receive a loaner car when they got some in stock. After continuously calling for a few days, I was told they still didnt have any loaners. After a while they called and told me that I could not get a loaner because they needed authorization to tear down my engine. So basically the service department manager lied about giving me one in the first place. He then told me his rep authorized to tear down my engine to see what was the cause of it not running correctly and burning oil. They told me I had sludge in my engine and the oil was never changed even though I have receipts to prove the oil was changed. The manager then said the place I got it changed from really didnt change the oil and I would have to go back to them. He then said as a result, my warranty was void and it would cost me $4,200-$8,000 to replace my engine. This was not the only problem I had with this dealership. The service manager also told me there is a recall on my car. I asked if they fixed the problem for the recall and he said, “No, unless we have the engine fixed.” When I first bought the car, they told me about a tire warranty, which is also a waste of money! They told me how great it was, and that if anything goes wrong with any of my tires, the company that offers the insurance would come out change my tire and cover expenses. I learned firsthand that wasn’t true at all. I had a flat tire and called the insurance company. They told me I needed to take it in to a reputable tire place such as Belle Tire. I took it to Belle Tire and had to pay for a new tire. The insurance company told me they wouldn’t pay for the replacement, and I come to find out if they did, it would be as a reimbursement. I was only happy that the flat tire didn’t happen when I was driving or on the side of the road, because they wouldn’t have come out to my location immediately. I am absolutely displeased and angered by their service! It seemed as soon as I pulled into the service department for them to look at the car, they were not trying to help - they were telling me lies and saying anything just so they wouldnt have to fix it. Not only will I never buy from Hyundai again, I will tell those who ask me about getting a Hyundai that it is not worth the trouble. Lord forbid something goes wrong, and it will with their cars, because they will not fix it.

Three weeks ago, I went to the Hyundai dealership in Huntington, NY 11743 (Long Island). I was interested in leasing a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS. My salesmen Bob ** had asked me which model I was looking at and I told him the 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS. Mr. ** brought around a grey and what he said was the GLS. I test drove it and was pleased as to how smooth and quiet it drove, so I then decided to lease one and decided on black with grey interior. I arrived at the dealership and picked up my car. I drove it home and noticed that it was driving not at all as the demo. It was loud and there is a clicking sound coming from under the hood. That same day I called my salesman up, told him and brought it right to him. He claims that he didnt hear anything unusual and what I was experiencing was normal. I asked him why I didnt experience this with the demo and he didnt have an answer for me. Then they scheduled an appointment for me to bring it into service to look at it. It was there all day and they claim nothing was wrong. To make sure I wasnt losing my mind, I test drove another GLS in their lot and that was better than mine. The salesman said it drives the same as mine. I then went to their Hicksville dealership, test drove a GLS and that drove quiet and had no ticking sounds. I went back to Huntington and the sales manager Steve ** listened to the vehicle and claims that he didnt hear anything wrong. I drove the car and the sales manager was in the passenger seat. He refused to drive it and said nothing was wrong and he cant do anything for me even after I told him that I test drove other GLS and they were fine, unlike my car. The sales manager also refused to actually drive my car and see. He said, I am too busy. I am not test driving your car. I then went to the West Islip dealership and explained to them whats going on. A salesman there came out and listened to my car and he heard the ticking sound. He said that is not normal. Even in front of his manager he said he heard the ticking sound. I am so beyond frustrated. Getting a new car is supposed to be enjoyable and all I want to do is cry. Its now three weeks that I have the car. Something is definitely not right. Please help me.

They agreed and then later said service was misinformed and never should have agreed to it being covered. Went back to the 12,000/12 month warranty. I argued and a final decision was it was covered by the 5 year/50,000 warranty but OUTSIDE causes is the reason the clutch/flywheel/disc failed. Not Hyundai....I asked what was OUTSIDE cause.......no response from Hyundai. Once you buy the car they determine what their warranty covers and it seems to me that Hyundai always comes up the beneficiary.

I have been in contact with several associates and managers, concerning a state to state transfer of my vehicles registration since November 19th, 2021. On November 19th, 2021, I contacted the team (via (800) 523-4030) to ask the best course of action for receiving, completing and returning the required documentation for this request. I was advised to mail in the documentation, to the overnight office located at the following address: 5505 N. Cumberland Ave., Ste 307 Chicago, IL 60055-4301.The package was delivered on Nov 22, 2021 at 9:48 am and signed for by an associate. After not receiving any follow up, I contacted the team again on December 9th, 2021 to confirm delivery. No confirmation was provided and I was told they would be following up with their partners in Chicago. I followed up again on December 17th and the 27th, still no answer or record of previous conversations. On the 27th I resubmitted the state to state transfer request via email/secure message. I was referred to the escalations department and have followed up 5 times since as resent the email once. Including today. There is still no record of notes from previous conversations or requests previously sent.Today I asked for a 4th submission via secured messaging, a copy of my title and for yet another email to be sent to the titles and complaints department. None of which has taken place. I am currently paying monthly for a vehicle I cannot legally operate, due to the customer service teams blatant neglect for the last 2 months. Each time I call I have to repeat this story. Enough is enough.

Nothing but problems from day one of this loan; first month wrong contract information entered that I fought for 39 months. At month 36 of my 39-month lease, I learn they made an error and its a 48-month lease, We went around and around. Then turn in car at end of lease (48 months not 39-months mind you!) to have termination fees, return fees, mileage fees (I expected those), and had a $1400.00 bill. HMF tells me I can pay it incrementally via the same account. I pay $400. then $100 each month at the suggestion of the HMF call representative. I did this on principle because I was so mad about how I was treated so I decided to pay it slowly. Yesterday, I get a phone call from a collection agency saying I owe $1400.00. I explain I have the payment confirmations from my bank showing $900.00 in payments my husband has made--the agency says (quote) well hes lying. No payments have been made and you owe it. I call HMF today and the representative, Tanya, with a heavy Indian accent, tells me she sees the $900.00 and its in collection for $402.21. Again, I tell her that her Hyundai co-representative told me to pay it that way. She says, Ill make a note of that on your account but you have to make arrangements with the collection agency to pay it. I have never had collections on this or any car loan! OMG I was NEVER LATE NOT ONCE. It was auto-pay from my bank! I requested a statement with complete billing history and told Tanya I would pay Hyundai the full amount directly. I have been switched and mislead over and over. Buyer beware!

My credit card was charged for renewal of the Blue Link in the amount of $148.10 on September 17, 2015. I did not receive my statement until October 21, 2015. I called and canceled the subscription but was told that I would only be receiving a prorated credit amount in the amount of ~$120 since I was one month into the subscription. I did not know I had the subscription until I received my card statement. This is clearly unfair and deceiving business practices the kind that the Consumer Affairs Division of the state attorneys office salivates over. I will share this information with the my friends who I shared my high marks of Hyundai with who also purchased Hyundais. With my vehicles, this will account for a total of 9 vehicles sold with my endorsement.

It’s out since March and is nearly 1st June still nothing from them. Every day for a solid 5 weeks I called. I spoke to so many employees and managers every day. They told me a different lie every time, stay away from these guys. After reading reviews it seems they are known for stuff like this. Also I called the dealer in Norwood MA and they too did not respond to any of my calls. Finally today I received my registration and decal thanks to my insurance company. They requested a duplicate. If anyone else is having the same problem call your insurance company for help. I cannot wait until my lease is up so I never gotta deal with these guys again.

I bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata last year in April 2015. I bought it used with about 89k miles on it. Up until Sep. 25th 2016, the car has been working perfectly. But about a week before that date, I noticed how badly the car was burning up oil. I was putting a quart in it every week because it would read low. On the 24th, I was driving with my 1 year old in the car and all the sudden the car started making a clanking noise. Thank God I made it home that night because I wasnt sure if I would without the car breaking down. When I got home, I turned the car off and turned it back on and it just sounded terrible. Sounded as if the whole engine was falling apart. The next day, I knew I wasnt going to be able to drive it.I called Columbia Hyundai in Cincinnati and I took it there to the shop on the 28th. They discovered that my car was part of the motor recall for that model car and that my car needed a new engine. It is now Nov. 9th 2016 and my car still has not been fixed. Its been in the shop for 6 weeks now. They still have a car in their shop from July that hasnt gotten a motor. I just got off the phone with them and they said it will maybe be the 1st week of December when they start getting motors. Shouldnt they have started mass producing these motors knowing there was a recall on the engine for thousands of cars? Makes no sense to me. Thankfully, Hyundai is 100% paying for the new motor and the rental car I am using. However, I am still making a payment every month on a car I do not have and I have asked Hyundai to reimburse me for this and they refuse to do so. Not very satisfied with Hyundai right now.

It was not under warranty. I always get my scheduled maintenance done and recently had everything checked. I have about 72,000 miles on the car. I was charged $405 total. What really bothers me is that the tow truck guy told me that he picked up 3 other Sonatas this week with the same problem. This may be a recall issue. Also the passenger seat is way too low.

Hyundais look great. But they are like a beautiful apple that is rotten inside. This is concerning a 2012 Hyundai Sonata SE Turbo. I have owned Hondas all my life, and have been extremely happy with their reliability. I had a Honda Civic that I sold at 115000 miles and the only maintenance I had to do was change the oil, muffler, and brakes. I then had an Acura RSX which I traded in with 92000 miles where I only had to change the oil and brakes. My next vehicle was a Honda Accord which I sold with 184000 miles on it. Again, the only maintenance I had to do was oil and brakes. I was going to purchase another Honda, but I fell in love with the styling and the horsepower of the Hyundai Sonata Turbo. I had reservations about purchasing a Hyundai because I remembered the poor quality of Hyundai vehicles throughout the 90s. I decided to take a leap of faith and buy a certified pre-owned which came with the 60k bumper to bumper and 100k powertrain warranty. I figured if Hyundai offered this type of warranty, they must build quality vehicles. My vehicle had 41k miles on it when I purchased it. I have had the car 2 years now and have had nothing but problems with it. The Carfax report showed this vehicle had the Lower control arms replaced (before I purchased it). Since I have purchased it I have had the following problems.46771 miles - Transmission Sensor failure caused the transmission to jump between 2nd and 4th gear and also cause the engine to shift very hard with a big thud. 48619 miles - The Engine failed and the motor long block was replaced. 48886 miles - Coolant was leaking. Replaced hose clamp. 49216 miles - Check engine light came on. Code p0076. Pin 1 was not connecting to solenoid so this was corrected.Somewhere around this time, I called Hyundai to complain about the poor quality of this vehicle. I was assigned to a specialist who was going to help assess why my vehicle was constantly in the repair shop. I do not recall his name. He called me to tell me he had spoken with the service Manager at AutoFair Hyundai in Manchester, NH where I purchased the vehicle. The specialist was unapologetic about my problems and treated me like I was wasting his time. In fact he ranks as possible the worst company representative I have dealt with in my lifetime. He said everything checked out and they did their due diligence with the vehicle. I informed the gentleman that I wanted a new vehicle. He scoffed at the notion. He stated that I had a warranty to cover anything wrong with the car. This was not satisfactory to me because my time was valuable and if the vehicle was malfunctioning at 46k miles, what would happen as the parts aged? The vehicle I purchased was clearly not manufactured properly. He basically told me again that the warranty was in place and that is all I would get. I informed the specialist that I am a recruiter who speaks with over 100 people per week and I would make sure to tell everyone about the poor quality and poor customer service that Hyundai provided. He said, thats fine and the call ended. Clearly this gentleman did not care about me or my situation and didnt care that Hyundai made a very poor quality vehicle.Continuing on with the repairs made to this vehicle. 51670 miles - Rattling when traveling in the city. Stabilizer end link replaced. 58285 creaking when turning. Axle joints replaced. This was all performed under warranty. It didnt cost me anything monetarily, but it did cost me a lot of time taking the car to the dealer and having to get rides to and from the dealership. Sometimes I waited for the vehicle if it was only going to be a couple hours.Since the warranty expired, I have had to replace the sway bar links at 74000 miles due to rattling when driving over bumps. The creaking that was supposed to be fixed by the replacement of the axle joints has gotten worse. I believe the strut mounts are the culprit. In addition, when I start the vehicle in the morning, the engine is having a bit of trouble turning over and is shaking for the first 10 seconds or so. Also, when I start the engine, there is a rush of liquid in the dashboard. I would venture to guess this is due to a failing heater core. Another issue is the transmission is downshifting into 4th gear very hard. The vehicle now has 80500 miles. It is acting like a vehicle with 180500 miles.More repairs at 80500 miles. Housing around the thermostat was replaced due to leaking coolant. Tube leading to oil filter was cracked and leaking oil. Engine head warped. Hyundai doesnt care about its customers. The warranty is bogus. The technicians diagnosing the issues at the dealerships have very little knowledge of the vehicles and take forever to diagnose issues - at the cost of $125 per hour. Beautiful design, very poor quality.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo and it kept stalling while in drive. My seats started cracking after only 6 months. My resonator and exhaust has to be replaced with less than 6000 miles on it. Hyundai definitely needs to recall this vehicle because my car has been back and forth in the shop due to the mechanics solely depending on computer codes to find whats wrong. Do it the old way. Actually look at the components and parts of the car. It should not take almost 3 weeks to figure out the grounding wires were bad.

In April 2018, 11 months after purchasing a new Hyundai Tucson, the transmission began hesitating and shuddering. I complained at Weimer Hyundai and was told to read the owner’s manual and watch some videos on YouTube. These did not address the issue but I was told repeatedly that was how that particular transmission behaved. Then between Jan 25 and Feb 5, 2019, I had 4 service appointments at Weimer to address 4 issues. The continuing transmission hesitation and shuddering now with skyrocketing RPMs, the AEB dash light and alert dings continuously going off, 20+second hesitation upon takeoff and when attempting to increase speed after slowing down or in stop and go traffic, and the driver door lock button malfunctioning. Nothing was repaired.I opened a complaint with Hyundai Customer Service and was told to take it to Jenkins Hyundai. After waiting for 3 weeks for a service appointment opening, on Mar 11, I was told it could be a safety issue if the AEB were in a crash/near crash situation and didn’t operate as designed. I was told a 2 different wiring harnesses were being ordered and that it should be in for the repair within the week and I would have a loaner car. They would call when the parts came in. After not hearing anything for several days, I talked to Hyundai Customer Service about the lemon law buyback. They said it would take 30 days to reach a decision. Finally they sent an email saying they would not do a buyback. Finally on April 8, my wife went to Jenkins and spoke with a sales manager who said he would call her back that afternoon with an update. He did not call. On April 9, my wife returned to Jenkins and spoke to a service manager who told her the wiring harnesses were on back order. He said a serious issue had also affected massive numbers of Subaru’s and that because of that all the mechanic appointments and loaner vehicles were booked for at least 4-6 weeks out. He said he would contact Hyundai Customer Service, a couple of dealerships 90+ minutes away and his own staff and prepare a plan. From this point he wanted to handle everything via email to create a paper trail. He said he would have everything ready by noon on April 10 and would call with the plan. Instead, he emailed a request for videos of the issues. By April 11, the A/C had stopped functioning properly and by April 12 even the date and time were not displaying on the dash or radio screen. My wife submitted all this information and several videos to them. DON’T buy a HYUNDAI!

My wife and I just purchased a 2013 Hyundai Azera in November 2013. Since then we have had numerous complaints with the vehicle in and out of the service department. Keep in mind the dealership is 90 miles one way and a rental vehicle was only offered one time to us out of the several trips we had to make. Let me start with noise up over the driver sun visor. The service department could never find and still to this day the noise can still be heard. Two of the wheels the clear coat started to come off. They did not want to replace the wheels and by stating that it was a product we must had used on them when washing the car. Needless to say I became very angry and we did receive two new wheels after the fact. The vehicle being 8 months old with 27,000 miles one of the tires are so worn and legally should not be on the road. The other three tires are worn but not worn as bad. Tires with 27,000 miles should have more tread on them. This vehicle gets serviced and tires rotated every 3,000 miles and all services have been scheduled at the dealership where we purchased the vehicle but one. The service department at the dealership is the worst we have ever had to come in contact with. You have two people telling you two different things regarding the tire tread. Alignment was good and was told we needed to contact Hankook the tire company and this was not a Hyundai problem. Hyundai is the one that contracted Hankook to put these tires on the car so I feel this is Hyundais problem. The chrome molding around the two back passenger windows is popping off. The dealership mentioned on the service print out that both moldings were loose but is only going to replace the driver side molding. I guess the passenger side molding will be another trip to the dealership before they will replace it instead of replacing them both at the same time. You can clearly see the passenger side molding loose too. Hyundai did everything in their power to sell us this vehicle with this wonderful 100,000 mile warranty but every time you have a problem you have to cause a scene and get angry before anyone wants to do anything. The tires is the biggest issue. This is a new vehicle and nothing is getting done about it. Is this how Hyundai treats their customers? I guess more complaints have to come forward or even deaths before Hyundai does anything about this major problem. If you are reading this just be aware of all the complaints listed and should reconsider purchasing a Hyundai. I wish we had done more research before we made our purchase.

When I asked the dealership, they never have these. They refused to order it, stating Hyundai does not take request. Additionally, all the cars on their lot have the crap I do not want (cargo net, cargo tray, floor mats, etc.) This adds up to $400 worth of junk. I asked them to remove it and they wont. No codes and the plastic piece broken off when I pulled it up to, now the front end where my fog lights are the driver side plastic part has came off, I had my fuel injections cleaned at 15,000 and still this car stalls. This has been a bad experience with Hyundai main office not covering anything on my car and I had my case open 4 times over the same issues. While driving at 70 miles an hour on I-87 using cruise control, the car jerked, check engine light came on and the car completely stopped accelerating. There was no response when pressing the gas pedal. Luckily, we were near an exit. We were not rear ended by a truck and were able shift lanes and to roll off and put our hazard lights on. On the exit, the car came to a dead stop. After checking the engine, we turned it off and the car started back up. And we were able to drive to a local service station concerned about driving any farther. The mechanic was able to determine there was an error code related to the throttle control. On restarting the car, the engine lights reset and the car ran normally.We continued on our trip. When we returned home, we brought the car to the Hyundai dealer where it was purchased to service the car. After they examined the car, we were told there was nothing they could do as there were no error codes in memory. They said that we should continue to drive it until it happened again. When I mentioned that there was a technical service bulletin regarding the throttle sensor and it should be either replaced or tested, I was told that they could not do anything until an error was recorded in the memory of the computer. It was because Hyundai USA would not cover anything under warranty, even though this was a serious safety concern and would most likely to occur again. When I asked if it was likely to occur again, I was told most likely it would happen soon and to be careful.A month later, when traveling on a long trip, it happened again on the Taconic State Parkway in New York. I was traveling at about 65 miles per hour. This time there was no shoulder. But I was able to partially pull off the road and put on my hazard lights as cars drove by and avoided hitting mine. Based on my prior experience, I turned the car off and was able to restart and move again. This same situation occurred four (4) more times as I was able to get my car finally back home to the Hyundai dealer to service the car.The Hyundai dealer replaced both the throttle sensor and the pedal assembly. The car appears to be working properly for the last two weeks. Having researched the problem with acceleration, I have learned that many others have experienced this similar and potentially dangerous problem. After speaking with other Hyundai service technicians, I was told off the record that this was not an uncommon problem. As the sensor is less than $85, I am not sure why Hyundai did not address this problem when I first brought the car or as a recall. The consequences could be much more serious.

On two occasions during the past three months the battery in my 2011 Sonata Hybrid with 31000 miles has had to be jumpstarted by AAA. After the last incident last week I took the car to the dealer where the car was purchased and the battery was shown to be in perfect condition. I was told that if the dead battery problem occurs again, I should not jump-start the car, but have the car towed in to the dealer for diagnosis. Obviously an electrical problem exists, and towing the car to a Hyundai dealer will obviously be a problem, particularly if I am out of town on a weekend. I dont believe that I should have to bear the cost of travel to my home or hotel costs because of a problem due to a Hyundai fault. Because of this problem, I cannot risk travelling out of town. Please give me some advice to deal with my dilemma. Apart from the MPG issue which I have accepted, THIS is a SAFETY matter that requires a response.

Zero Rating if possible. I dont really know where to begin with this brand and its terrible cars. I purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata Turbo in 2013. Ive spent countless hours with my car in the shop over the car sputtering, shaking, cutting off at stop signs. Not to mention the electronics in the car are terrible; Bluetooth doesnt connect half the time for unknown reasons. Theres been at least 4 recalls done since I purchased this car. I had to get a total electrical discharge done to reset the electronics because the car was going haywire. Finally, Im down on Myrtle Beach for vacation and the car totally shuts off. Turns out it was a faulty engine that needed to be replaced. Took 30 days to get the engine sent in from Korea and replaced. Then somehow the rental car that I had racked up an amazing 2400 bill of which Hyundai determined to only pay $400. And then afterward I noticed the car jumping and things shifting and making horrible noises under the hood. Turns out the repairmen didnt screw the transmission mount screws on tight enough both of the bolts had the heads off and the transmission was moving around while I was driving. The dealership told me the car would be fine to drive and so I did until it just became unbearable. Now they want me to fork over another $1700 to replace the entire subframe that they messed up when installing the engine. Hyundai is a horrible company with Horrible cars. I will never purchase another thing from you and your terrible dealerships. Go out of business for the countries sake or leave your terrible cars in Korea.

This is with deep disgust that I am writing this letter to Hyundai. My familys loyalty toward Hyundai started in the year 1999 with the first generation Santro. From there, we have possessed Accent which was bought by my brother, two Verna first generation, etc. and finally we have gone for a Fluidic Verna in the year 2011. I possessed a white Verna SX CRDI ABS, which was the top variant in the year 2008. The reason for top model with ABS was due to the utmost safety concerns. But I had 3 instances of accident with my car which was due to ineffective ABS. This complaint I have raised with The Popular Motor World delegates in Cochin, Kottayam, Muvattupuzha centers in Kerala but they could not help me on the same.I had spent thousands of bucks on service after the other but the result was the same. Now, my car has covered 75,000 kilometers and even last week, I was about to meet with an accident owing to the problem of the ABS. Now, delegates in the service department is suggesting me to change the ABS Sensor. Brand loyalty is exercised by a customer due to various factors among which I believe the most important one is service quality and the ownership the company takes to give customer delight. But now when I turned back, I am surprised to find that passenger car market had given me numerous option to choose from but still I was loyal to Hyundai and all due to that decision I am now having a tough time. He brought it to Star Hyundai who fixed the problem but actually made things worse. He then brought the car to Plaza Auto Mall where he purchased the car and was told he needed a new engine due to what Star Hyundai did. The warranty claim was denied because they said he never had an oil change. He then produced 8 receipts showing all the oil changes he indeed did have and still they declined the warranty work. He was told that we had NO RIGHT to know why it was denied. On Feb 16TH I spoke to a MS. ** who said she would get back to me within 48 hrs to find out why it was denied. It is now March 5th and still no call back. Today I called corporate and theOPERATOR would not let me tell her what the problem was. When I tried to speak she said SHUT THE ** UP then she hung up. I called back repeatedly and every time she hung up. I have traded in my car and will be buying a Subaru. My son unfortunately was so desperate he traded in his car at Plaza Auto Mall and leased a new Sonata - which we all regret.

No after sale service - Beginning November 2011, we finally bought our dream car (Hyundai iX35 R2.0 CRDi GLS AWD A/T). I worked hard to be able to afford it. Brand new, it is delivered to us in hazy view. We are so happy to get our new dream car. The first week after we got the car, I need to take it to Hyundai Nelspruit workshop so that they can put on the nose bar as they couldn’t do it in time for delivery. That afternoon, when I got back my car and drove home, I saw that the panel where the gears are is scratched (looks like someone took a spanner or something while changing the automatic gears with it in hand). Several days later, I received an sms from the branch asking if I was satisfied with the service, and I replied no, I am not happy at all and told them about the scratched panel. Until today, they haven’t come back to me! In December, we went on holiday to Jeffrey’s Bay. On our way back, just before Kroonstad, we got a flat tire. I changed it and saw that in the inside, it is worn down to the wire, almost 5 cm. I looked at the other one, and it’s the same! We have to drive slowly as we don’t have a spare now. It is a mission to get two new tires in Kroonstad. Finally, we got the tires and after almost 5 hours and R7250.00 later and promises from Hyundai to replace it, we can continue to drive home (the car only has 9,000 km on the clock). So I sent the claim to Hyundai Lydenburg (where we bought the car). It’s now two months later, I do not know how many e-mails and phone calls, and we are still waiting for the money! The car almost has 10,000 km, suddenly the engine light goes on. I looked in the book and it says it has to get to a dealer as soon as possible. It was late at night, so the next morning, we took the car to Hyundai Nelspruit workshop. They put it on the lift and apparently there is an oil leak; we need to leave the car there as we are not allowed to drive with it (it was Monday, 6 February). So we have to rent a vehicle because no courtesy car was available (I talked to Hyundai again, they will pay the vehicle). I got a rental car from Euro Car. The first amount go off on my credit card on 8 February (R8091), and the second on 14 February (R2000), and the third on 6 March (R19,607). With our own car it would have been a bit cheaper to drive! On Thursday, we called the workshop (they said we can get it on Friday) to hear if our car is finished to collect the next day. No, they have to order a seal. A few days later, we phoned again, still not finished. They will only get the seal by 5 March! (I think they plant or grow rubber trees then milk them and only then can they produce a seal). A few weeks later, they called us (for a change) and told us they got the seal and we have to bring in the car so they can put it in. We told them that we can’t bring in the car as it is already standing there in the workshop for 3 weeks now, and that they can just immediately start with it! On Tuesday, we phoned again to hear if they are finished (was supposed to be finished on Monday). It was not. The seal they ordered was the wrong one, but they looked in their storeroom and found one (so actually the car was standing there for weeks now for nothing). They put the seal in, put in the oil, and suddenly there is another leak! And they don’t even phone us, we have to phone them every time! On Monday, 5 March, I stopped at the workshop to get my mailbox key (since it’s almost a month, I couldn’t take out my mail). They sent a young man to accompany me outside to my car to get my key. There my new car is standing way at the back in the sun. I wonder if it’s been standing there for all this time. (I don’t even let my old car stand in the sun for so long).It’s now more than 4 weeks later, I’m tired of begging and phoning all the time. I don’t even want that car anymore. It already gave us so much problems I don’t trust it anymore. We expect Hyundai to give us a brand new car, pay back our money for the tires, pay the bill on my credit card with interest for the rental car and bank charges on the credit card, so their name is not affected. It is the least they can do for us to compensate for all the inconvenience, or we have to take legal action. After I sent this mail to Hyundai, I got an e-mail from Liam from Customer Service saying that Hyundai will only pay for the labor and the seal. Thank heavens, they will pay a R5 seal and me R40,000 for rental and tires. At R4000 a kilometer above the buying of R400,000, I really hope to sell it or let it just stand too expensive for me. This is unacceptable. The public should know about the terrible service of Hyundai before they have to go through what we did. If you read the letter/message of the CEO, Alan Ross, (on their website) it is the opposite of what is happening in reality. In my situation, there is in no client service from Hyundai! Hyundai Nelspruit says they can’t work if there is no part. Hyundai sells thousands of vehicles and there is no part, wow. It’s like me booking in guests and tell them sorry we can’t take you on a game drive. I wonder for how long we still have to wait for our car and all the money? At least Hyundai Lydenburg tried to help us with this mess from Nelspruit workshop via e-mails, etc. I fear the day the car is not under guarantee anymore and I have to pay all the expenses because their service is so bad! One of your employees, Nicholas ** has a Pending Felony charge (Family Violence-Strangulation) and has also been arrested for Grand Theft Auto. This employee is giving Hyundai a bad name and owes me a sincere apology.I personally went in to Hyundai on October 7th (Friday) to order a manual for a 2011 Sonata. The man took down my information (name and number) and told me it would be in the next week (most likely Tuesday). I left and never heard from him again. One week later on October 14th, my girlfriend, Jessica ** heard from Nicholas ** (her ex husband) a salesman that works up there. He works in a completely different building than the parts department where I placed my order for the manual. He texted her and told her that her manual is in, but that I wasn’t allowed to come pick it up. He said that I made a scene when I went to place my order for my manual. Nicholas and Jessica ** are separated, and have been for 6 months. Their divorce will be final in December. Nicholas is still very upset that Jessica left him and sees me as the reason for it all. When in reality he is the one to blame. But I came in as a customer that day needing a manual for our Sonata. I didn’t even see Nicholas on the day I came in and I didn’t want to. He claims I made a scene. The scene he is referring to, is when Tarrah (a salesperson) was assisting me to the parts department and helping me get what I needed, she asked my name and I told her who I was.She immediately made the connection of who I was. Nicholas had told her, other employees, and his managers all about his personal life; making up off the wall comments and stories about me and his ex-wife. But I didn’t come up there to discuss this. When Tarrah told me all he said about us (slandering Jessica and myself), I simply told her none of what he told them was true. I then placed my order and left. That’s when Jessica got a text from Nicholas about the manual even though he had nothing to do with the order I placed. He got my information (cell number and order I placed). I’m angered by this because it is an invasion of my privacy. He is a salesperson and he shouldn’t have had anything to do with my order. Jessica didn’t place the order, I did. And I went up there as a customer. Not even wanting to deal with Nicholas. I just wanted my manual. So Nicholas then told Jessica that since I made a scene, I’m not allowed to come pick up my manual or else the police would be called. I was furious and outraged. I never spoke with the manager and was never contacted directly by him. Jessica however was contacted again this time by the manager Roosevelt, and told him my side of the story. She told him that she and I were willing to sit down with him and review the security camera where I made this scene they were referring to. The manager said that it wasn’t necessary. Jessica told Roosevelt (manager) that I planned on going to corporate offices and complaining. That’s when he stuttered over his words and quickly said he would have someone call for my mailing info and credit card number. A few days later, I received a call from someone in parts asking for my billing and shipping info. I could have just driven right back up there and dealt with them personally, but not wanting anymore drama, I gave him my info. I asked when I was to be contacted by the manager, and he said he had no clue. And when I called the next day to speak to the manager, I got the same answer, He is with a customer or He is busy at the moment. That is why I’m going over their heads and coming to you.All I wanted was my manual. I expected an apology from not only Nicholas, but also the manager. But I have yet to receive one. I came up to Hyundai as a customer, and was treated like a criminal. When in reality Nicholas ** is the criminal. He has been arrested for Grand Theft Auto, and was recently arrested for Family Violence charges (strangulation to Jessica), the charges for this recent one are still being processed. Nicholas has a temper and he hasn’t gotten over his separation from Jessica. He and his manager are giving Hyundai a bad name. I expected to be treated like everyone else, just a customer, personal life aside. My family does business with Hyundai and has for years. We shouldnt be having transmission problems with those miles on it. We went to get the transmission serviced and they said it was going to be 7 1/2 hrs of service to do that and it would be just as much to replace the transmission. I took my car to OReilly and they checked it and informed me it was the camshaft. After then I was driving down the road the noise got louder and then the car stalled. It shut off in the middle of the road. All the lights came on and it STOPPED!My car was towed to a local Hyundai dealership. Spoke to someone this morning and they havent even looked at the car yet. I work 35-40 miles from where I stay and I dont have no other kind of transportation. After further review I found that Hyundai has had a ridiculous amounts of recalls on all of their vehicles even the new ones. I also found out that they recalled over 470,000 Hyundai Sonatas 2011-2012. After reading the reviews of this recall my car is doing the same thing as the 2011-2012 models. I have contacted Hyundai twice and all they are telling me is that my car is not part of that recall. My car is doing the same exact thing. They do not care and it is just ridiculous that there is so many problems. They wont get me a rental or a loaner. I plan to go to everyone news station I can find and report this issue. These cars arent safe or reliable and someone has to speak up and take action!!!

When she got the message, she called & tried to make a payment, but they were closed & she was not able to make the payment. Her car was removed on Sun. morning. We now have to pay over $1500.00 in payment & fees. She had been out of work a long time, & is bipolar, under drs. care now. We are retired & on fixed income. This is a blow to all of us, since they do not accept payments on Sat.

The car drives fine, however am having a lot of issues with headlights and taillights having to be replaced. Not really happy with it. Headrests push head forward causing continual discomfort. Windshield angle makes it hard to clean windshield and dashboard. I also wish there were added wide view rear view mirror, or side mirrors that would show blind spots. Even so, I like having controls for my music on the steering wheel. Its a nice safety feature. I also like the number of miles/gallons feature. Nice to have a quick visual of how far you can still drive on the gas you have. Like the Bluetooth connection as well.

My 2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited was 11 months old when I took it to a dealership due to my concern with rust in two different spots on the front edge of the hood. They said that they would need to take pictures and get a decision from their Hyundai rep. It was the middle of October before I finally heard from anyone (after making numerous phone calls) to learn that they had declined to repair the problem stating it was the result of rock chips which arent covered by their warranty. During the prolonged wait for an answer, a third spot of rust erupted on the front fender near the headlight, and there is nothing to indicate it was the result of a rock chip. According to the warranty, the paint is covered for three years; however, it doesnt cover rock chips.I understand this but my problem isnt that the car has rock chips. Every car Ive ever owned has had rock chips. My problem with Hyundais assessment is that the so-called rock chips have rusted so quickly, spread under the paint, which is blistering and falling off along with the other spot where there is not a rock chip. I have owned at least 10 cars in my lifetime and not one of them has ever rusted like that. I paid for additional coverage when I bought this car, as well as some Paint Seal protection that the dealership said they put on all new cars. It obviously didnt work, to the tune of an extra $200. My husbands car is over 25 years old, still has the original paint, and although it has rock chips, not one of them is rusting to this day. I suspect that I am not the only Hyundai owner with this complaint. Hyundai is making it a policy not to cover any repairs under their so-called warranty. What am I supposed to expect after another two or three years and I have another warranty claim? Am I going to have this fight with Hyundai every time?This is a simple fix and yet they are telling me that if a pebble hits my car, I should expect it to rust immediately and its my problem. In addition, my seatbelt retractor on the passengers side stays locked. It has been this way since I purchased the car. When taking the car to the dealership to have the rust issues assessed, I told them about the issue with the seatbelt retractor. After first telling me they could not fix it since the problem seemed to be intermittent, they finally agreed to replace it after my husband was able to easily reproduce the problem. I returned on Oct. 18 and they replaced it. After leaving the dealership, I realized that the new seatbelt retractor was also locking up. It locks when you snap it on and in order to do anything, such as reach for the radio, open the glove box, etc, you must undo the seatbelt. This occurs repeatedly so you are continuously snapping and unsnapping your seatbelt. I immediately turned the car around and took it back to Jeff Wyler. They said they would need to contact Hyundai since they already replaced it with a new seatbelt retractor and would get back with me.Today is Oct. 25th. Once again, I am waiting for them to call me and let me know what the next step is so I can have a working passenger side seatbelt. I have never had this problem with any other auto manufacturers warranty. I have owned two Chevys prior to this, and Chevrolet bent over backwards to make sure my concerns were taken care of quickly and with respect. I switched to Hyundai because of their supposed unbeatable 10-year warranty, but apparently, it is meaningless since they wont honor it. I am so frustrated at this point because this terrible experience has left me hating my new car which Im stuck with while it slowly rusts away from a couple of rock chips along with an unusable passengers side seatbelt. I also want to add that this car is rarely driven and kept in a garage. After owning it now for one year and one month, this car has only 6200 miles. I have subsequently filed a complaint through the BBBs Autoline, which is the recommended procedure in Hyundai Owners Manual and Warranty Booklet. Thank you.

Over a month ago I contacted Hyundai Consumer Affairs and Hyundai National Consumer Affairs regarding my 2016 Elantra Value Edition. My car was manufactured at the Alabama plant and I have had problems with the car since I purchased it. The problems began with the dealer not prepping the car for delivery and also not documenting all my trips back to the service department beginning the day after I purchased. The manager of the dealership titled my car in the wrong state, refused to listen to me and then also refused to honor the dealers price guarantee and return policy. It took a year for the dealer to check the alignment and I still have a steering problem.Within 10 months and 7000 miles, my interior began falling apart. Panel covers detaching and rattles and squeaks. Exterior items also detaching. The hood misaligned/warped. I made 5 trips to the dealer in Florida to get 1 panel cover repaired, 2 visits they refused to document: 1 visit I had an appointment and the system was down, the other trip the adviser refused to document and made an appointment for the following week. The parts were ordered in Ohio and it was a struggled to have them installed.The screws/connectors that hold the wheel well liner, front bumper cover and the engine splash guard came loose and came off while I traveled from Florida to Ohio. The splash guard and wheel liner came down and dragged under the car. I got off the highway and pulled them back in place and secured them temporarily. The mechanic said I am lying and that I hit something. I did not, but most certainly dragged something from the road as I exited the highway.Hyundai sent their district rep to the dealer. He did an inspection, however did not look at the interior as he claimed all the detaching panels are to OEM specs. I have photos that show otherwise. He also claimed to have checked my wipers and that there was no clunk nor the blade hitting the frame. I have a video that shows it does. Hyundai refuses to acknowledge the fact that their cars manufactured in the USA require different replacement parts and the cars are different. They refuse to repair my car. They kept my car 5 days for paperwork leaving me stranded and unable to travel.

I lost all the money I put towards the car just to have nothing to show for it at the end. I could have been injured and was severely inconvenienced. Not to mention the stress that befell me during this time. I opened a claim with Hyundai motors. Not only did they NOT find what went wrong, but they only offered to pay my insurance deductible. This vehicle was always seen at a Hyundai dealership and had an extended warranty. My advice to anyone shopping for a vehicle; is to forego Hyundai, not only are they fire hazards, but they depreciate at an immense rate.

I leased a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. There is a hidden disposition fee listed in your agreement. I was not verbally made aware of at the time of signing my lease agreement. I found out about this $400 disposition fee at the end of my lease. This was on top of the standard wear and tear fee, my last month payment, even though I turned it in early! Oh, and $19 in taxes. Grand total to turn in was over $500! I called Hyundai Finance to dispute only the disposition fee, because I learned this disposition fee is ONLY for turning in the vehicle, and any possible transportation Hyundai may have to do once you turn in the vehicle. Why is that my problem? Why is this fee passed to the customer?!I spoke with a customer representative who was rude as soon as they pick up the phone. I was then transferred to a supervisor who was equally rude, and had no customer consideration, or retention! I was basically told were not doing anything, you SIGNED the agreement, you should have understood. I was told that if I leased another Hyundai, or purchased another Hyundai that this fee is waived. However, it cannot be waived if you were a good leasing customer! I was stupid to lease. I put 2,000 down, turned in a vehicle, and paid into a 3yr lease...even turning in the car well under 30,000 miles, when I could have put 45,000 on the car, but none of that good leasing history was considered to have a fee waived by a financing company that can easily ride off $400. It would have been good customer service to just waive that fee, it was not as if they didnt get ENOUGH money out of me during the entire lease period. Dont Lease if you can, and dont EVER lease with this company HYUNDAI FINANCE, and I would consider not even leasing/buying a HYUNDAI vehicle until they can service their customers better with regards to fees and making exceptions. RIDICULOUS, HURTFUL. Terrible company!

My car is now a year and almost 5 months old and 6 days ago my engine began revving and I immediately removed myself and car from the road. Once I parked, my car started releasing all its transmission fluid. I had no warnings, no indications of anything wrong at all. They towed the car to the dealership and I was given a rental car that I was told was going to be covered because since the car is so new. Needless to say, I received a phone call later that day telling me that this fix wont be covered under my warranty because its been deemed an impact crack in my transmission and its an incidental. My car is a year old and theyre trying to tell me that Ive caused a crack in my own transmission... Im sorry that just doesnt happen. I live on Long Island which is basically all highways, no rough terrain whatsoever. A transmission is a tough piece of machinery, they just dont crack and Im telling you I did absolutely nothing wrong. I use this car for my commute to work and pleasure on weekends. Mind you also, before I even drove it off the lot upon purchase back in Jan. 2015, I had the dealer repair not one but two dents as well as multiple scratches on the car. I didnt know I had to bring a mechanic with me to purchase a new car from a Hyundai Dealer... Clearly the conditions in which this car were kept were nothing close to ideal. How can they honestly and with good faith point the finger at me and tell me that a car thats a year old will not be covered under warranty? AMERICAS BEST WARRANTY, that is. Go scratch, Hyundai.Ive reached out to Hyundai Motor America via Email, Mail, Fax and Phone. Ive opened a case and the case manager I spoke with was BEYOND useless. Im currently awaiting an adjuster from my insurance company to go look at my car and theyre going to fight on my behalf as well. Additionally, now the rental car they ever so kindly set me up with, theyre telling me I must pay for. That car got returned after day 5 and now I have a hefty bill for a rental on top of all of this now. To say Im beyond infuriated is an understatement. What I particularly was interested in was the bluetooth technology with hands-free calling and the ability to load all my IPhone 5 contacts in the bluetooth/navigation/radio part. And I also had owned an Elantra for 10 years, so I was a repeat customer and looking forward to owning another, more updated.This March 4th, I brought my car in for an oil change and for the Auto Butler service that I had paid extra for (total car clean). When my car was ready, I noticed that the lights were on, so I when I attempted to turn them off, they were already off. So after a few tries, the master technician gave it a try also only to be stumped. He did NOT know WHY the lights were not turning off. Keep in mind that this car has just been serviced and everything was OK. So, he took it back in the shop & said hed have to call a Tech at Headquarters somewhere for advice. After having been there from 9 am and now it was 2:30, I just could no longer hang around that dealership so I asked for a rental. The next day, I got a call that they had found the source. It was a faulty FUSE BOX. Thats like the main electric box outside our homes. When does THAT break down? I asked what caused it many times and they have no answer. They dont know. So I asked how come when I brought my car in for an oil change & car wash - everything was fine - and when its complete, this huge event happens. They cannot (or will not) tell me how it happened or what could have caused it!!! A mystery I am not willing to live with. What if that happens again when Im on a highway or out of state? That would drain the battery and more things could happen. So I am VERY UNHAPPY with that occurrence.The next thing is that when I bought my car, the bluetooth paired with my IPhone fine and I was able to sync my contacts. All of a sudden, about a month ago, my contacts were no longer able to remain synced and so I am unable to use the hands-free calling feature for which I bought this car and I must say for the SERVICE so well advertised. Here again - there is no answer to this problem. They are aware that it is happening, mainly because they have not upgraded the bluetooth since I bought the car and their solution is: WERE WORKING ON IT. In the meantime, what do I do?I asked for some type of compensation: a new Tucson (that might have the later version)..., an upgraded car for a reasonable price.... something! But to no avail. I was told by the Gen. Manager that he would like me to drop by to see him, so he can buy me a cup of coffee!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?? So those of you thinking of buying a HYUNDAI, think again. After Ive read all of these reviews, it is really sad to see how things have turned out for this company that used to be #1 in service. Now they really dont care! And neither should we!

I bought a 2011 Hyundai, I was the second owner. As I was going to work I pulled out onto a main highway where the motor made this horrible noise and stopped, leaving me in terrible danger. People helped me push the car to get it backed off to a bit of safety zone, I had to have it towed to a garage. This car had 82,000. miles on it, it seems the motor was gone. It was then towed to the dealership, where it sat for 4 months before anyone even took a look at it. I keep calling them frequently about it and was told, they had so many cars before me in line they didnt have time to work on it.I had to find other means of transportation for work and other necessities. Only to be told because I was 2,000 over the second owners warranties that Hyundai refused to replace it. They had a class action suite against them, I was notified, but didnt have a problem at the time I was notified. Why would I spent $6,000 for a new one of their motors when the one I had was no good? I was told of others the same dealership that they had replaced motors with the overage mileage. I had expected to drive this car for at least 200,000 plus miles. Just goes to prove not all Lemons are yellow!

So I told them to go ahead and repair and they did charging almost $300.00. I went to pick it up and after I got out of the dealer, I started feeling the car with same problem. So I went back to them, this time they said, “Ok, it is weekend and we will check and will call you back.” When they called me back, they said now that it was the transmission and that I need a new one. I was never advised for any problem with transmission even when I use to take the car for service with them and I used to go for any problems with the car to this dealer. I asked them for reimbursement for the false diagnostic and they said they will not return any money. My car has been in the garage since then because I do not have money to repair the transmission. I feel like I was robbed because I paid for anything.

While driving on 5 Freeway in California my 2014 Hyundai Elantra started to violently shake like someone hitting the brake. I threw it in neutral and help my wife turn the steering wheel because we lost power steering. We got lucky and had a space to coast to the side of the road. When we got towed to Tuttle-Click in Irvine, CA and our car turned into the Service department. They basically said we are on our own to find a ride back home and no loaner car. Two days later I have to call them to find out the problem. First a technician said that it was a bad battery but that would not have caused it to completely shut down. Then a few hours later the Service Manager calls to say it was the battery and that is what caused it to shut down on us. I dont know who to believe but my wife doesnt want to ever drive or ride in it again. I have filed a complaint with Hyundai Corporate but dont know what they can do. I guess time will tell.

This Hyundai car is just the right size, the amount of gas it burns is great, it gives a comfortable ride. There is plenty of room for passengers, the trunk is very large and great room for suit cases and groceries. Having front wheel drive and it handles well in the snow. Also, it has air conditioning, cruise control, CD player with an AM/FM radio, a five speed automatic, rear window defroster and keyless lock. Another feature is that the rear seats fold down allowing you to place big objects in the back, if the trunk is not big enough. The car also has driver and passenger side air bags. Though it did not have a spare tire it did have a tire inflator that can plug into an accessory socket. But I wish the car had a bigger engine because it lacks power and a rear camera would make it more easy to back up, it should also come with Bluetooth to make pairing with smart phones and MP3 players.

Went for a drive, not even close, what happen? The Genesis was in showroom floor. Took for a drive, Wow, the car floats on the pavement. 3 driving modes, sound system you better wear earplugs. Comfort, outrageous. Noise from outside what noise. Looks beautiful. If you never seen the Genesis Emblem you would not know what kind of car this is. Kudos to Hyundai. Awesome car.

I had good credit and went to buy a Hyundai Elantra because I was in need of a good car, but when I applied for the credit, the guy helping me took advantage of my need. First he came to me with a 10% interest. When I agreed, he went back to his boss. Few minutes later, he came back telling me that my interest was little higher to 12%. I really needed the car so I agreed, but he went back. To make it short, I ended up paying 16% because I told him I would not pay more. I think they ripped me off because of my need and lack of experience dealing with this kind of people who take advantage of you. So if you need a car, dont go with Hyundai or at least dont use their credit and go with somebody with experience.

My 2006 Sonata with 38,000 miles developed a bad engine noise. I took it to two dealers in Rochester, NY and it was diagnosed as a defective part in the hydraulic system, keeping chain tension. The cost to repair was $1000. Not something that should be happening on a car with only 38,000 miles. I called Hyundai Customer Affairs and they would not accept responsibility for the problem. This car was passed from father to daughter due to death 4 months earlier and as of 2004, the warranties do not pass to the beneficiary. If the father still owned the car, it would be covered. Last Hyundai we will ever own. We will be getting rid of the car.

I been having Warranty Issues since I bought my 2010 Elantra . Starting out with failing Brake Lights to causing misfire and to end it the EPS. When going to the Dealership for the engine issue, I had been told I have water leaking into my cylinder that needs to be cleaned out due to my car not having the engine light on. The same day the car had seemed to misfire and the engine light came on. I drove to the first Auto repair shop I saw and they run the diagnostic and it showed a code. They told me the issue was under warranty and I should bring it to the Dealership. I asked if they could clean the grease out a little so it would stop jerking. They did. I took it ten miles down the road to the Dealership and left it with them. Next day, they called me and told me all I had is some water in my cylinder and that it wasnt covered by warranty. So when I got to the dealership, he showed me the bill what was even more as that from the repair shop to fix the gasket. They explained to me they couldnt pull a code and the code given by me to them wasnt making any sense. So I took my car to Firestone and had them look into the so-called water in my cylinder. As they they couldnt find any water anywhere. Long story short, they didnt honor the warranty at all. Now the EPS seems to be failing and Hyundai expect the code to to read in order to honor the warranty. Well Dear Hyundai, the EPS dont stay on and you cant pull a code because no one be able to drive with the EPS out to the dealership so they can see the light is on. So again another bill on the Buyer cause Hyundai. So what Im trying to say is buying a Hyundai is a waste of money. They also stated what I called and complained, You dont have any Oil Changes on file with the dealership. Really I never had any issues with my VW when I took it to the Dealership about anything. And they did listen to the customers concerns and try to help and not send you out with issues that they didnt want to fix under warranty.This was my first and last Hyundai I had Purchased.

We had to give our car at the workshop which took 12 days to return our car. We were informed that some electronic box (EUC) needed to be replaced which took so long. I feel pathetic for buying a new Hyundai car. Even Maruti Alto must be better than this car. Just after 2 days of the return, today again my car stopped of a sudden. Its a torturer that I have to bother myself with a brand new car. This time I ask for replacement of the car and not the box.

We traded in my Hyundai Tucson for two new 2008 Sonatas in 2008. We are not happy at all with the quality of the cars. After going in 2010 for an oil change the dealer told me I needed 4 new tires. He insulted me by saying that I must drive like a maniac. We didnt trust that every time we went for an oil change or maintenance they seemed to find something else wrong.They asked us for a second chance to service our cars. So on 12/14/11 we went with hesitation for oil changes. For the past year we were taking our cars to Meineke for maintenance since they guarantee their work and are a lot cheaper. Never fail, this time they claimed I needed 2 new tires, and hubbys car needed new brakes at $1159.00. We told them to just do the oil changes.After we picked up our cars my husband’s car just broke down after 3 blocks. We called them and got it towed back to the dealer which I thought was covered, but turns out it was our expense also. They claim it was the fuel pump. We had no choice but to let them fix it or tow it somewhere else. They still got us for $750.00. We wonder if they shorted something because we werent going to let them do the brakes for $1159.00. As of today 12/26/11 we still owe 2 more years payments and are very worried what else is going to happen to these cheap quality vehicles. We have dealt with Chevrolet and Toyota and never had a problem with the quality or felt like we were being ripped off royally. Hyundai constantly sends us offers to trade in our cars and we were seriously thinking about it. Now we just wish we could give the cars back and go somewhere else. We cant believe this is happening before we even have them paid off. We wish we could use the lemon law to help us. We will tell anyone who asks not to buy a Hyundai. Buying a Hyundai is like going to the 99 cent store for cars. You get what you pay for.

Fast forward to last week (March 2016) my wife experienced engine trouble with it. No check engine light or anything. But no problem, they have a 10yr/100,000 mile warranty on it, right?? WRONG! I took it in to get the engine fixed and they denied my request. They stated that based on what they saw, I didnt maintain the vehicle.Not once did they ask for my service records! (I had my car serviced more than the recommended amount...) I come to find out theres a class-action lawsuit for this very issue. They refuse to honor their warranty EVEN AFTER I provided proof of maintenance! This car was not even 2 years old yet. How frustrating. Be sure and avoid these guys. Theyre crooked. Never giving them another cent. Ill go back to Toyota.

They auctioned the car and sent me a remaining balance, which should not have been calculated. They revised the amount and was supposed to send me a new balance. Ive been calling and kept note of everyone spoken to, begging for the balance due to make payment, since November 2016. Its now April 2016. I was told I had a lower balance than what was originally calculated. I paid it and was told by a manager Ruth and other workers, Tiffany and others that the account is settled and will show paid in full, and the credit bureau will be notified of the closed account.A week has passed and I called to check in on my account and was told that I had a past due balance of the same amount (WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE UP TO?). It still show on my credit that this account is past due. Ive lost over 100 pts on my credit score because of their false report. When I was making the monthly payments, updates were quick. Now that I want out, its like they dont want to let you go. The managers and workers in-between are all the same - they make promises to take care of the situation, have managers call you back etc, and they do nothing about it. No one calls back. Nothing happens.This account is paid in full to date. The car was auctioned off and its final - all I want from them is to close my account and update my credit that the account is paid and closed. PLEASE HYUNDAI, its been 6 months of calling you. Not getting anywhere with all the staff you employ. I want to move on with my life. I want nothing to do with Hyundai Motor Finance. I will never lease another vehicle from your company. This experience has been torture for me. I been an excellent paying customer. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?? Please close my account.

We just purchased a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy trim in Sep 21 because we loved that it had everything we were looking for in regards to safety, technology, and design. We paid $45k for it along with about $1,000 in fees and travel to pick it up. We were quite excited as this was our first brand new vehicle. 2 months into it, the transmission went bad and we brought it to Hyundai to find out whats going on as it was under warranty. Heres where things went further south.Hyundai cant get parts to fix their brand new cars...and on top of that, why would a transmission already be bad? It has sat on their lot since Nov 30th, 2021. Last week we just got an offer to buy back the vehicle for more than 4k less than what we just bought it for and drove it for two months. They stated that our state allows for depreciation in Missouri for lemon laws and they cant help us, it is what it is. During this time, cars have gone up because dealers are now charging a mark up fee, so although they can claim depreciation, we cant claim appreciation on the car. So to get the same exact car we just bought, we now will have to pay 4-8k more for equivalent. Its horrible. And just for a buyer beware situation, Hyundai will no longer replace your car with an equivalent one substitution for collateral equity. They stopped replacing them with like cars because theyre manufacturing so few that anything they make has to go to dealers to get top value for them.Point being for this review is that although Hyundai makes a great car much of the time, if you have any problems at all, there are concerns of finding parts for repairs, and if its unrepairable, plan on a huge deduction for a buyback. Good luck out there from a very unhappy customer who just lost 4-8k on a brand new vehicle, and now I have to go find a replacement on my own.

I recently sent my 2010 AWD to repair the front ends because of it being very noisy. I had the rotors change and brake pads changed and the suspension link fixed. When I got the vehicle, it drove just perfect. It cost me over $500.00 to fix the front ends. No noise and felt very firm. About 2 weeks after, the noise started again like it was never fixed. My warranty just expired in March 2015. That was about the 3rd time I had to take it in for the front ends. Now what shall I do???

Purchased my first Hyundai in 2011 & kept the vehicle for 6 and a half years. Warranty was great on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T GT, lasted me for about 5 years when I reached 100,000 kms. During warranty had two things replaced, the defective tail light & an interior button that stopped emitting light. The only reason for my 4 star rating is the defective tail light, which after replacement started to collect condensation again. Of course this time it was out of warranty & both tail lights. I have seen many Genesis Coupes with this same issue, and I am surprised it was never recalled to be fixed. On another negative point, I have had a very bad experience with Hyundai dealerships in Canada. Initially in Moose Jaw I had an amazing experience, but after they changed their employees, the customer service took a big deep. And I had another awful experience in Fredericton, NB at a dealership. Very poor customer service in my experience, I hope they work on that. Other than the issues, I had a great experience with the car, great quality & really fun to drive. During my ownership I only had to change tires & rear brakes. I plan to purchase again, but this time from Genesis brand which I hear offers great customer service.

Then i called a week later saying that i havent heard back from the gentleman. He called me later that day and told me that since my car is out of warranty, and that they did honor the warranty on the 4th ignition coil even though it was out of warranty... there is nothing they could do. They obviously wont recall it, they wont refund me. Again... car parts go bad... but for each coil (there are 4 of them) to go bad and then ANOTHER one... you would think that there is some defect in the manufacturing that is causing the coils to fail.I informed him that it would take an act of god for me to purchase a Hyundai again, or any vehicle that they manufacture.

I have to say I WAS a huge Hyundai supporter. In fact, I referred a family member and a friend to buy one of your cars as well. I say WAS because my 2011 Sonatas engine blew and the dealership (Jim Ellis Hyundai - Atlanta, GA) cannot tell me why. They actually said it would cost $400+ if I wanted to know exactly what happened. They denied me warranty service and told me a new engine would cost $6,800 for a TWO (2) year old car. This is unbelievable to me from a company that stands on its warranties on their cars. I am sure Hyundai is aware that an unhappy customer will reach 10-20 times more potential new customers than a happy customer. I am at this time an UNHAPPY customer.

Extremely pleased with my 2004 Hyundai XG350L. Years ago I would have never thought to buy a Hyundai of any type but was struck by what I saw in the XG350L. It gave me 11 years and 248,000 miles of enjoyment. Would buy another if I could afford it.

I purchased a brand new Hyundai Tucson Sport in December 2019 off the showroom floor. I paid cash for it. In February there was a clicking noise so I took it to the dealership. After diagnosis they said that a rod was coming loose and they would have to replace the motor. I only had 2000 miles on it. I should say Im 70 years old and I treat my vehicles with care. After replacing the motor it never ran right. I talked to the service manager and he lead me to believe that a rebuilt motor could have been put in it and could not confirm to me that it was a new motor. After taking it back due to low power I got frustrated with Hyundai and I traded it in at CarMax on another brand of SUV. Ill never own another Hyundai again.

I own a 2012 Hyundai Accent. It never has attained 40 MPG as advertised and stated on my car window sticker when purchased. A Class Action lawsuit was filed and reported settled in Feb 2013 and I am awaiting results. My experience with Hyundai has been the worst experience of any car company, and I am 61 years old. They are rude and arrogant. I will never own another Hyundai or Kia product... Ever!

I am unfortunate enough to be one of the tens of thousands of people that thought this was a reputable company that sold reliable vehicles and stood behind them. THEY DONT. As soon as they have your money youre on your own. NO SUPPORT even from Hyundai USA!! I have an entourage. The headlights used to blow every three months that used to tick me off, but now they dont blow anymore because they dont work at all now!!! And its a really common problem with this manufacturer. I called the main Hyundai customer service line and they are completely useless and really couldnt give a crap about the vehicle they sold you. Do yourself a favor. Take your hard earned money and put it in a vehicle manufacturer that values your time and money and your loyalty. THESE CLOWNS DONT!!!

I had a rotten experience with service. My brand new vehicle started to rust in the trunk immediately after I bought it. I took it to service. They identified the problem. They tried to correct it and it didnt work. It took so long that by the time they came up with a solution they told me my warranty was up. They just said, Sorry these things happen and in the end I would never endorse anybody to go to Hyundai Canada with this kind of service and product.
