2022 Hyundai Tucson Limited Plug-In-Hybrid AWD Review & Test Drive
[BACK]

Posted On: July 20, 2022
Hyundai has done well to offer the masses several variations of crossover utility vehicles and within some of those segments offer up different powertrain options, including a plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) for its compact Tucson. In getting a chance to check out the new Tucson PHEV there’s a lot to be excited about as manufacturers move towards an electric vehicle (EV) future.
Performance and Driving Character
The new 2022 Hyundai Tucson is already a decent compact crossover offering near midsize accommodations and a few powertrain options, including my Tucson PHEV test vehicle. The plugin-hybrid Tucson takes on the same approach as its other powertrain siblings offering a vast array of features and surprisingly comfortable and spacious seating areas. Powering the new Tucson PHEV is a combination of the brand’s 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a 66.9-kW motor sandwiched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
With the electric motor and gas engine working together you have a total of 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The gas engine by itself generates 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. When the system is working its hardest in synch you can hit 60 mph in about 7.1 seconds, which is pretty good for this class of vehicle.

The motor alone has enough power to propel the vehicle with decent acceleration to avoid upsetting vehicles behind you. Though, the electric power alone while in the default electric mode when the battery is charged won’t necessarily win any races as it is limited to a 90-horsepower motor that cleverly uses the 6-speed automatic transmission’s gearing. When using electric power, the gas engine only kicks over when you demand extra power for passing situations or accelerate rather hard. Otherwise, the electric mode remains but there isn’t a reference point on the power meter in the digital gauge cluster to show the limits for the electric motor’s acceleration before the gas motor is demanded. The same rings true for using the hybrid drive setting, which will essentially retain any battery charge that you have garnered from either plugging the vehicle into a 110-volt household outlet or a Level 2-equivalent charger. Using the household 110-volt takes just over 10 hours for a full charge from full depletion while a 220-volt takes just over 3 hours.
With a full charge of the smallish PHEV 13.8-kWh battery pack, you can get about 33 miles of all-electric range out of the Tucson PHEV. That range is dependent on many power consumption factors, such as the wise use of the dual-zone automatic climate control system that has a clever driver-only setting that is to be used when you have no additional passengers to conserve power.

The driving dynamic of the Tucson PHEV doesn’t feel much different from the normal Tucson but feels a bit heavier but has the extra power to overcome the extra heft from the battery pack. Having all-wheel-drive in the Tucson PHEV, the only way it comes, is a good benefit as well to prevent front wheel spin that is normally checked by the traction and stability control system. The handling of the Tucson PHEV is also surprising as feels confident and inspiring out on the road and has a nearly seamless transition from the electric motor to the gas engine when power is demanded, in addition to the transition of the regenerative braking to the friction brakes. Overall, Hyundai did well with the control units of the Tucson PHEV giving you a little extra for “performance” in the plugin-hybrid over the non-plugin hybrid.
Fuel Consumption and EV Range
The fuel consumption I thought could have been a little better in use of the hybrid drive setting when the PHEV battery id depleted. Here, I saw just shy of the EPA estimates of 35 mpg for the combined city/highway gasoline number. When you have a fully charged battery pack you’ll get the best bang out of the Tucson PHEV and yield upwards of 80 mpg with the 33-mile EV range and use of a full 11.1-gallon tank of regular unleaded.
Interior and Tech
Just like my previous reviews of the new Hyundai Tucson, the interior has excellent accommodations and tends to hit a level above its compact classification. The dashboard is simplistic with all touch-capacitive buttons below the large 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. The system, as explained in all my previous Tucson reviews, is easy to use with a very short learning curve. Though, the main issue I have with the interface on the dashboard is having nothing but touch-capacitive buttons that tend to demand a little extra attention to press the correct spot, which may divert some of your attention off the road at times.
The power front seats have heating and ventilation and feel worthy of being comfy on long trips. The rear seating is also spacious and has heating on the outboard seats in my top-level Limited trim PHEV test vehicle.
There’s the expected integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with having a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster that offers a few unique displays dependent on your drive mode. The only thing I wish Hyundai would add for the information readouts is more clarification on the PHEV drive setting for “holding” your battery charge and a reference for how much acceleration power can be used before the gas engine starts up. Doing so would enable a drive to be more energy conscious and potentially yield an even longer EV range.
Safety
There’s a bevy of active safety features included for the new Tucson PHEV, which include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system, rear collision mitigation braking, automatic emergency braking, 360-degree camera system, driver attention warning, safe exit assist, and the blind-spot monitor with a blind-spot camera system that displays a live video feed of the blind spot in the digital gauge cluster when you activate a turn signal.
Price
The Hyundai Tucson PHEV comes in two trim levels with the base SEL trim starting at $35,400 while my Limited trim test vehicle comes to $43,200 plus an inland and freight charge of $1,245. For either trim, there’s a set number of features included with very minimal options available (such as floor mats).

My Tucson 2017 had a problem with acceleration. The dealership technician inspected the car for and said there is no permanent solution for this problem. Surprisingly they charged $120 for doing nothing on a guaranteed car. And the customer service did not respond to my complaint.

Worst experience of my life. I bought a 2017 Veloster, drove it off the lot with 6 miles. Within a year I’ve had my power steering column replaced, the motor for my sunroof and my MOTOR BLEW AT 28K MILES! If you have any work done to your car, expect not to hear anything for 3 weeks and them keeping your car for 2 months! The techs there take everything as a joke, and laugh about how many problems you have with their cars. One of the techs even stated if we told you how bad they are, how would we sell them? I took my car there the month before complaining that it was driving weird, they never even test drove it and stated everything was perfect yet a month later I was left stranded on the road, yet again. Please whatever you do, stay far away from the Tampa Location and Hyundai ALL TOGETHER!!! Worse choice I ever made, I regret buying that car!!!

I had bought my Grand i10 in April 2017 register and model is 2016. I had ride only 68000 kms. The engine has the problem. I called the dealer and asked whether there is the warranty. They telling the warranty is over. They telling. While I took they told me we had extended the warranty for 5 years but now they telling it has being finished.

Began discussions with Hyundai over GPS map upgrade - for my model, $300. For other models $99. During email discussions GPS failed and warranty expired. Didnt buy car from Towne Hyundai, so they and regional support dont want to cover replacement under Goodwill consideration because they didnt make any money off of me. Hyundai Equus says in writing theyll replace it free. Dealer says NO, theyre only authorized to pull it out and ship it somewhere for repair, could take 2 weeks, could take a month with no map, no radio, no electronics as its all tied together. Never received any honest communications between Hyundai customer support, Towne Hyundai in Denville NJ, Hyundai regional rep and myself. Always the run-around, always delays or no responses and lies.

I am the original owner of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS 6 speed manual, and the car currently have slightly over 150,000 miles. About 10 months ago I made my first attempt to get my car evaluated for rust spots that I noticed in various places (under side of the hood, gas fill cap area and frame above the muffler). Mostly spots are under the paint. I filed a complaint and obtained a case number. Despite having case number almost every time I called I had to explain the issue over and over again. I got a very little cooperation from the local Hyundai dealer (Branhaven Hyundai formerly Quality Hyundai) and a very slow response from Hyundai Motors of America. {and did not have anyone to contact most of the time}. The official response from Hyundai Motors of America came by mail only 6 months later denying warranty coverage. Only now after I got the letter I was able to get the name and address so I can file small claims writ for the cost of the repair and false advertisement. The official Hyundai website positing warranty coverage of 7 years unlimited miles, but for some reason my car did not stand in that guidance even if its only 5 years old. If you owned the same model vehicle Hyundai Elantra 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 ask your local oil change place or mechanic to look underneath the frame and see if you have the same problem and if you do please report it to your local Hyundai dealer. Please see attached pictures and if anyone else experienced a similar problem please share it. Its impossible that Im the only one experiencing the problem. I am from Connecticut so we do have salt on the road but I own other cars and none of them got rust like that even after 10 years.

Hyundai Financing has to be one of the most incompetent companies Ive ever dealt with. We leased which we will NEVER do again and then we were buying a house. In order for us to get the FHA loan, we had to sell the car to get it out of my name EVEN though my company was paying for it. We had my mom get a loan and buy it from Hyundai Leasing. We mailed the check overnight. I waited two days and then started calling to make sure they received it. After 5 DAYS of calling constantly and talking to a different person in their call center every time, we finally got a document saying that the loan was paid in full and the balance was zero. The call center is not located where the check was and neither was the supervisors who are actually located in a complete different location as well. No one knew exactly where the check was. I had to contact FedEx to show that it had been delivered. I had supervisors making promises that they would send us a document of closure but never did. I have never been so ticked with a company before! Then we get a letter stating that the current credit union that is providing us with the loan has not received the title yet. Its been 4 weeks since the check was received and applied! I just called them and they said that they had not received the odometer disclosure statement. What the?!! Did anyone tell us about that document?! OF COURSE NOT! I love my car but I will never finance a car through them and I may never buy another one from Hyundai.

I would give this company 0 stars if possible. My 2016 Sante Fe motor messed up while on a trip out of town. It was covered under warranty. Left car in Arkansas to have it repaired. Was told by consumer affairs the dealership would provide a rental or I could rent and be reimbursed up to $25 a day. We got the only rental available in this small town which was $100/day. I was not contacted by this company for over 3 weeks, stating they have not yet assigned a case manager. When I finally got one, he was no help either. Told them I can’t afford to keep renting. He pretty much had me do all the work!Contact dealerships asking for loaner, which they say they don’t have. They really need to change their policies. Asked them to tow it to my local dealership thinking they could repair it more quickly. Of course, they left that up to dealership too, which refused. So now 10 wks later, car still not fixed and over $5k in rental costs. They need to take responsibility for these dealerships that represent the Hyundai brand! The only explanation they give is we have no control over the dealerships. I actually love my car, but this company in general needs to improve on service. I won’t ever purchase another Hyundai based on this experience.

I recently upgraded my car to 2012 (July 2012 model) the car had 35,000 miles, on clock now 40,000. After the first major service at approx 39,000 miles I found some difficulty in changing from 3rd gear up and sometimes changing down. Went to local dealer who had car for a day, stated car needed further checking. Felt gear box problems, but needed to strip down first and get permission from Hyundai to same under warranty. However the following day I was informed there were signs of wear on clutch and flywheel also need changing due to heat damage, also that repairs not covered by warranty. When I questioned further I was told same was caused by driver and repairs would cost 900 euro plus vat. I refused and told them to put car back together. I was charged 273 euro for same. In my opinion the guarantee is a joke. I have been driving for over 38 years and never caused damage to a clutch. My husband contacted the Irish head office and found them very unhelpful and bordering on rude. My advice to anybody thinking of changing to Hyundai is think again. Stay clear and save yourself a lot of trouble. Buyer beware.

So my car got towed last Friday and Ive been calling the reinstatement department for almost a week and they have so much attitude they yell at you. They wont tell you once what documents they need. You will be going back and forth to OfficeMax and your home. Finally, when you have all of the papers faxed, they will tell you they never got them. You end up faxing 6 times.

My wife purchased a 2006 NEW Hyundai Sonata. We have always been avid AM News Listeners and from day 1 the radio was worse than Poor for AM. We complained and complained and all they ever said was that the antenna in the rear window was a poor design for an antenna and that was the problem. Well, my wife just purchased a New 2014 Hyundai Sonata and I took the 2006 - since I drive far less miles annually - and now I was determined to get to the problem. When I would drive the car sometimes going over a bump on the road would instantly increase the radios reception but it would last then go back to crappy again. Sometimes as I would start the car and back out of the garage the reception would be great - then 5 minutes later it was back to crap. One day, in the garage, as I was backing out - the reception was jumping back and forth from Poor - Good - Poor to Good - so I whacked the dashboard over the radio with my hand and there was DEAD SILENCE. I turned the car off and then back on and the radio came on but with the typical Weak reception.I purchase the Haynes/Chilton Auto Repair Guide, for the 2006 Hyundai as well a CD Hyundai Shop Manuals, and watched several YouTube videos on how to remove the radio. With the radio removed and exposed - but connected - I started wiggling/moving the antenna cable around and sure enough the reception would go to Great - Poor - and NONE. As I was holding the radio with one hand and changing the station with the other hand I also noticed that if my hand squeezed or put pressure on the top and bottom of the radio - on the Antenna connection side - (in order to hold the radio) the Reception might also go from Great to Poor to None.I could see that the antenna cable connector was CHEAP looking with the center core of the cable soldered - but the Ground wires were crimped and DID NOT look there was a good connection. So I went to Radio Shack and purchased another Motorola Antenna Connector and re-did the connection to the cable. With the radio still exposed and the antenna cable connected with the new Radio Shack connector the radio sounded great. And squeezing didnt seem to have any effect as before. So I put the radio back in and left the pods on the sides of the radio disconnected - temporarily. The measured depth of the New Radio Shack Connector was slightly Longer than the original Cable Connector so it was putting some pressure on the cable and the connection and the radio began to act -up again when installed so I removed the radio (which removed the pinching pressure on the cable) and the radio worked fine.So now it is possible that there is a bad connection, internally, on the Female part of the Antenna cable connection to the radio. I tested the continuity for the Ground and hot points to the cable connection - while I had the radio out and they tested OK - but the test was not under a pressure stress, either. So the bottom line is that Hyundai Continues to LIE and ** about the AM Radio Problems with the 2006 Sonatas. Unlike the most recent excuse from Hyundai Service at Lester Glenn in Toms River, New Jersey, the problem is NOT with the Rear Window-Designed Antenna - its the cheap Connectors, Crappy Radios and the ** Service people who dont want to do their job of fixing your car under warranty. My wife took out the 100,000 miles / 10 year Bumper to Bumper Extended Warranty with Hyundai when she bought the car so now - After 6-8 Hours of MY TIME and the expenses to buy workshop materials - I am going to raise Hell with Hyundai USA!

I purchased a brand new 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The transmission blown at 43000 miles and they had no idea why. Now at 71, 000 the engine had blown and again they have no idea why. I am so dissatisfied. The kbb value of this car is horrible. They have fixed the transmission under warranty and will be fixing the engine, however who is to say that it wont happen again especially since they have no idea why the both blew in the first place. SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS company.

I should have known better. I was a career car reporter, now retired, and I had seen first-hand the quality issues with Hyundai. But reviews like those in Consumer Reports convinced me things had changed, so I purchased a new Elantra GT in Canada in 2005 with a 5-year warranty. As I was retired, the car sat in the driveway mainly and that was part of the problem. More mileage would have unveiled the problems quicker. As delivered from the dealer, a brake light was missing and the alignment was off. I had my own mechanic fix these at my cost. I also had the car rust-proofed with oil spray as Korean steel is known to rust quickly. (Did not help, door seams and hatch rusted anyway.) Engine head gasket failed within 3 months and dealer botched the repair. I complained to Hyundai Canada and the engine was taken apart a second time, repair done correctly but the engine pinged after that, meaning that the compression ratio had been altered in the repair. Mirrors froze but I fixed the controller myself with WD40. Radio died, I upgraded it. Brakes vibrated but I fixed it myself with custom rotors rather than fight the dealer. Finally, dealer went under and disappeared. A month after the warranty expired, so did my steering rack. 25,000 miles on the car in 5 years and the rack blew. My mechanic put a new one for $1,700 in and that lasted 3 months. Extensive research on the net in chat groups and I found blown racks a common problem in the model. And the replacements fail because, allegedly, they are stored outdoors in Korea and the seals dry out. I sued Hyundai in Small Claims. Did they send a lawyer? No. Did they try to settle or fix the car? No. They sent the head of the central (head office) Parts Dept. who lied under oath to the judge about my attempts to resolve the issue. I won, but got rid of the car. Trade in for a 5-year old 2005 Elantra GT with 25000 miles, new brakes, new Michelins, upgraded radio, and needing a rack? $3,000. (Paid $20,000 five years earlier). Ugh.

Since I entered my review, I filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and with corporate Hyundai. As I had mentioned, I had already discussed this at my dealership Bronco Motors. The NHTSA called me and took more information from me, but otherwise, I didnt see any action. Natasha from Hyundai corporate and I played phone tag, but she never actually spoke to me. In spite of my leaving many messages, I got a letter from her essentially saying that because I hadnt contacted them, they werent going to do much. However, the service manager (Brandon) at Bronco Motors took a very active interest in my situation and followed up. This last week, he notified me that a new software patch had been released. He helped me set up an appointment for the update, and today I took it in and had the patch applied. Now, I need to see how this turns out over different driving scenarios, but my drive back and forth to work following the patch was spectacularly better. For the first time since I got the Tucson, the transmission functions like I would expect! Just yesterday, when it was very hot, the transmission acted up horribly. Today, even though it was still hot, the transmission performed perfectly. Like I said, Ill be a little skeptical until I see how it performs in a variety of situations, but for the first time, it didnt leave me feeling like it might let me down in the middle of an intersection! If your dealer hasnt reached out to you, give them a call and see if this newly released patch is for you.
Shiny plastic cover over interior driver door latch (to open) began peeling
Shiny plastic cover over interior driver door latch (to open) began peeling off. Before the warranty on this item expired at 60K miles, advised that the dealership had to order another cover. Assuming it is a peel off, stick on type of application. No mention of buying a completely new door latch just because plastic surface was peeling off. In the meantime, a fog lamp went out; one of the door locks stopped working. Dealer advised that none is covered by warranty. Cost of replacing the door latch $150 b/c the entire assembly is apparently required. Cannot purchase the stick on plastic cover. One light bulb for fog light, $75. Replaced one actuator for one door lock mechanism, $460. Service manager could not explain why these outrageous prices for simple repairs were required. Hyundai should allow their dealers to make profit on service, but this type of pricing is outrageous and abusive. I said no, and plan on raising hell in every forum I can.

I own a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. I can promise you I will never own a Hyundai again. My car has been at the shop 3 1/2 months none of the recalls have been checked. The car still cuts itself off. Hyundai keeps calling and telling me that they fix the issue only for me to go test drive the car and it still Loses power. They keep telling me it’s one thing charging me an arm and a leg And the car continues to lose power. First they told me the engine needed to be cleaned charge me $350. Test drove it still losing power. Then they tell me it’s coil pack number 3 charge me $280 to remove one bolt. Needless to say that still didnt fix the issue. Then they tell me it’s coil pack number 4. Another $280. Guess what the issue still isn’t fixed. They refused to fix my car And want to charge me $910 before they release my car to me. None of the things they told me was wrong with the car fixed the issue. I’ve missed over 30 days of work because we are down to one car. Nearly $4000 between missed work and repairs that never needed to be done. Hyundai is putting me and my family at danger along with other families with their vehicle. I’m guessing until someone gets seriously hurt or dies it’s not their problem.

I was just recently in an accident and I was going 40 miles an hour when the accident occurred and the other lady was going around 30 mph, and at the speeds both of us were going, the airbags in my 2005 Hyundai Elantra did not deploy. How hard does a person have to be hit for the bags to deploy? I think this car is one of the cheapest made cars. I can remember when I got caught in a hell storm, the body on my car was beat up really bad. I wont do Hyundai any car again, I dont care how they look.

My 2012 Hyundai Veloster has strong smell of gasoline inside of vehicle. Dealer states that this is normal with temps over 100 degrees and start and stop traffic, so they did nothing. I guess this means that it cannot be used from May through September in the Henderson/Las Vegas area, as the temp is always over 100. I cannot believe they think this is acceptable. Do not buy this car. The dealer did provide me with details stating this issue is normal. Im not sure where he got it, but it appears to be from Hyundai.

I have owned three Hyundai cars, all have been new cars under warranty. I have only had to taken them in for mechanical issues less than ten times. I have never been told by a Hyundai service department that if they find that the problem is not a warranty issue, like a rat chewing through a wire, or hitting a curb and knocking something loose, that I will be responsible for paying over $100 for them taking time to look at my car, whether they fix the issue or not. I can understand the cost of fixing the issue, but not the cost of just looking at it. I can understand if I was bring in a 2001 Toyota. But I am bringing in a Hyundai to a Hyundai dealership while under warranty. It is implied that while under warranty the dealership for that brand of car will check your car when it has mechanical issues for free, and if it isnt a warranty issue, charge you for the repairs. I mean they sure do talk up how good having a warranty is when they talk you into buying that 10 year 100,00 mile extended bumper to bumper warranty, but if you want to get it looked at, you better bring $200, just in case the problem isnt under warranty. Because whether they fix it or not you’re paying. This was my experience at North Freeway Hyundai in Houston TX. The service consultant Bruce ** didnt even test drive my car to see if he felt what I was feeling, until he first told me that just to look at my car, I basically need to have the money to pay just in case it isnt a warranty issue.

I purchased a 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate about two weeks ago. The first week I had it I noticed when it was in the sun the back bumper and lift gate had these 3D swirls in the Black Noir Pearl paint. The dealership had the car redone with Zurche but still had the same issue. I took it back to the dealer and they had someone buff the entire car. This made the situation worse as the marks were still in the paint and he did a poor job detailing the car. I took the car home and spent 3 hours detailing the car myself to fix the issue from the detailer. Regardless to say the marks are still there. My wife noticed today that I have a big scratch under the spoiler. The dealership was going to allow me to pick another car, but they did not have any and it had to be today. So to make a long story short I wish they would just take the car from me like I never bought it. Very dissatisfied customer for a car that is only 2 weeks old when it was valued at 35 thousand dollars.

I have a 2010 Hyundai Entourage. I purchased this vehicle thinking it would be a reliable vehicle in July 2017. It had only 125,000 kms and was in great condition. So far I havent been exactly thrilled with reliability. But my impression changed today when I went into Hyundai dealership to order new a/c-heater control panel since my button for fan speed has broken. I was told there was one available but at a stupendous price of $900.00. I pretty gagged when they told me this. I was expecting $200.00-$300.00 which is till expensive but at least tolerable. After this experience, I will never buy another Hyundai vehicle because replacement parts are sold at a totally rip off price. $900.00 for a piece of electronic that simply controls heat and fan speeds. It doesnt even have automatic temperature control on this unit.

As an owner, I was dissatisfied with the suspension. I feel its the company default. The door alignment was not balanced till today. It is difficult in shifting gear from 1st to the reverse (takes 3 chances to shift). I was given 2 services but problems has not been solved. Please look into it.

I bought a brand-new Hyundai Tucson 2014 with 83 miles. After 4 months and a torrential rain all my books in the left-rear passenger side floorboard, were soaked. I went to the Decatur Alabama dealership and they cleaned the water out. Long story short the Hyundai dealership has (1) replaced seals around the door, (2) sealed the roof railings, (3) resealed the roof railings. (4) the Hyundai Motor Corporation called in LEAK PRO guaranteed 1 yr not to leak. 11 months later after torrential rains, the back floorboard left passenger side was full of water. I have sent a certified Alabama Lemon Law letter and called BBB Auto Line asking for replacement. I know one person with the same issue with the same results. Anyone else out there? May go to arbitration. I am waiting on Hyundai to call me.

I have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata.. Have had a ton of recalls that I have had to waste a ton of time at the dealership to get fixed. At little over 100,000 miles my engine started burning not leaking oil.. Brought it to Darcy hyundai in Joliet il... Told me I have to do an oil consumption test which I had to go there 6 more times to find out engine is burning oil.. Every mechanic told me I need a new engine but corporate hyundai even though they have had lawsuits over this make and model engine tells me I have to spend 1000.00 to do more tests... Every week I have to refill oil so there is oil in the engine and few months later catalytic converter goes bad because of the oil burning which car stopped running on the expressway and had to get it towed... 1 problem after another problem... Corporate hyundai tells me Im on my own and the converter costs over 1000.00 even tho the engine in that car was proven in court to be bad and replacing converter would not solve the original problem of the engine burning oil.... Stay away from hyundai or you will regret it.
We purchased a 2020 Hyundai Kona and drove it for approximately 12,000 mile
We purchased a 2020 Hyundai Kona and drove it for approximately 12,000 miles. At that point, the transmission started lurching and the check engine light came on. We immediately took the car in to the dealer. After a week and a half calling almost every day to find out what was wrong, we were informed that the transmission had completely failed. Still under warranty, we had to wait another two weeks or so for Hyundai to approve the repair of a car with 12,000 miles. Obviously waiting for better than three weeks just to diagnosis the repair and get the green light for repair is absurd, but it gets so much worse. As you would expect, we called the dealer every couple of days to check in. 100% of our calls went to voicemail and the dealer returned our call about 1 out of every 4 times. We were finally told that Hyundai doesnt have the parts for repair and that they dont have any timeline for getting the parts. At that point, we tried to work with Hyundai to get the car repurchased under our state lemon law. Our particular law states that cars under warranty are eligible for lemon status if they have been in the sop for greater than 30 days (cumulative) while under warranty. When we started working with Hyundai, we were already at nearly 60 days without the car. Hyundai took our information 3 separate times because they are apparently as bad at record keeping as they are at manufacturing and customer service, and then denied our request without providing a reason for the denial. We have now gone to the BBB to try and resolve the issue under their manufacturers program. The BBB says that they generally resolve issues in 30 days, but we are weeks into the process and Hyundai hasnt even responded to the BBB complaint. As of this writing, our car has been at the dealer for 72 days and we still have no idea when we may get it back or whether Hyundai plans to force us to sue them. Meanwhile, we are trying to figure out what to do to get out of this terrible purchase decision. I dont know what more I can say to warn you, but for the love of everything that is holly, do not buy a Hyundai. Maybe you will get lucky and your new Hyundai wont have a breakdown, but you really need to ask yourself if you can risk months without a car, should you have an issue. There are better options out there and you should take them. Hyundai is not worth the risk, I promise you!

Well I had reached the 100000 mile warranty and engine failed. It is a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. Hyundai consumer refused to pay for another engine. This is BS. I am still paying on my car and this should have never happened. I will never buy another one. I always kept up with the oil changes!

In fall 2014, I purchased a new 2015 Hyundai Elantra with a 1.8 L 4 cylinder motor. Since then, the car has had standard interval servicing with full synthetic motor oil, done at the Hyundai Dealership. The car is mainly used for commuting to work, and the majority of the miles driven are interstate miles. The car drives approximately 30,000 miles per year. At 105,000 miles, the car developed a ticking from the front of the engine. The standard powertrain warranty is 10 year/100,000 miles. I took the car to the Stew Hansen Hyundai dealership in Des Moines IA, and they diagnosed it as a worn rod bearing, or rod knock. The service Hyundai agreed to provide the parts, but did not agree to provide the service cost ($2500) or loaner car. At the time that the engine needed repair, I was told that the parts would be in as soon as possible. Joe, my service advisor, advised that other cars that are same make and model has been experiencing this issue after the winter months of 2017. He advised that the dealership had 5 others Elantras waiting for a new engine. He advised that the engine components were not getting enough oil due to a manufacturing defect. Therefore, running without oil for extended periods of time. It has now been almost 2 months, and Hyundai is estimating, but not guaranteeing, that the engine will arrive on April 27th. Which is a total of 3 months since I have not had my car. I have been advised that the engine parts are backordered, which tells me that this is a national problem. I have contacted Hyundai Woodhouse in Omaha, NE and they advised me that they are having the same issues with their customers Elantras. I have contacted Hyundai Consumers Affairs about the issue, and asked for reimbursement for a rental car because the process is taking a long period of time. My consumer claims advisor told me that they could not give me a definitive answer if I would be covered by a rental reimbursement. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor advised me that the reimbursement would depend if the part was included in a repair campaign or recall. Upon asking if this part would be covered under a campaign or recall because of the national shortage, she could not given a definitive answer, and advised that my reimbursement claim would be reviewed after the part is fixed, leaving me with no clear answer. My family is currently down to one car, and my wife and I both drive to work, which puts a large amount of miles on our one vehicle. I understand that the vehicle is out of warranty, however, we feel that Hyundai has not take responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction. We initially were grateful that Hyundai was providing the parts, but we feel that no-one should have to wait 3 months for their car to be repaired.
I purchased/financed a 2016 Tucson Limited AWD in November 2015. In August
I purchased/financed a 2016 Tucson Limited AWD in November 2015. In August 2016, I started experiencing issues with my transmission. Whenever I am in traffic, my car will buck and feels like its going to stall and sometimes barely accelerates. When Im stopped at a stop sign or traffic light and go to take off, my car barely accelerates. There are times where Im barely going 5 mph and the RPMs are high and then all of a sudden will start bucking and then go into gear. Ive had 3 almost near accidents because of this. When Hyundai came out with the DCT recall in October 2016, I brought my car to the dealership for service on the transmission recall. I continued to have the same issue, but it recently got much much worse. I brought my car back to the dealership on 4/1/2017 for the same issue. They performed the same exact recall again. As I was driving to work on Tuesday, 4/4/2017 my car started doing the same exact thing. I called the dealership right away and dropped off my car the next day. I picked up my car on Thursday, 4/6/2017 and drove it to work today, Friday, 4/7/2017 and I was experiencing the same EXACT thing. I drive almost 80 miles a day to and from work, always in traffic and Im terrified to be stuck in traffic, or to sit at a light/stop sign because Im afraid Im going to get in to an accident because of this. I called the dealership again today to let them know that Im still experiencing this and the service adviser left me a message saying that theres not much more he can do other than to keep performing the update on the DCT. That update was performed 3 times now and we havent gotten anywhere. Im terrified to drive around with my infant in this car let alone myself. Ive reached out to corporate and filed a case with them. This car is unsafe!!!!

For the price point of this vehicle I expected not to hear anything inside. But it seems as I go 40mph and above I hear air as if the window is cracked open. Hyundai says its road noise but I know the difference. Its a lot quieter in my wifes Juke than in the Palisade. I think the door is to light weight so air noise seeps through. Hopefully Hyundai will find a fix for this. Its probably the only reason so far I would not keep this vehicle.

I have a Hyundai i20 Sportz CRDI 2011 model. I just met an accident. I hit a post and my car flew for about 15 meters and landed in a pit. My car landed on its radiator, but the airbag didnt open. When I asked the dealer, he said that the impact was not on the sensing limit of the sensor. Please, tell me the sensing limit of the airbag. What should I do?

I purchased my 2005 Hyundai, in late 2004. Since the day I owned it, I’ve had trouble with it, like from only 2000 miles on it the engine had a noise. I took it back 4 or 5 times, and they kept saying they didn’t hear anything. Well that is wrong, because the service manager that was there at the time heard it. I want to know what happened to him as he is no longer there. I went back one time to get my oil changed and found out that they only changed the filter and not the oil, which I could prove, so I made up my mind that I would never go back there for service. Now my car has only 48,000 miles on it and I have a real bad noise in the rear end. I took it up to them and they told me it was under warranty. A couple of hours later they called me and told me they would not fix the problem because of not having it serviced by them. The car would be serviced for as long as I owned the car, not by Hyundai but by my own service person, which should not matter because by law, you dont have to bring it to the dealer. This dealership has had a lot of problem with people over warranty work. I know of at least 13 people. The dealership has a bad name to begin with. Now that my car is 6-years-old, I am going to let people know just what kind of cars they have and how the warranty is nothing but a rip off. If I could talk my wife into it, I would like to paint the dealer’s name on the car to show what kind of junk it is and also let them drive it. Maybe thus I could stop another person from making the same mistake I made by buying one. You know it is a shame that when a person buys a car or truck, the first thing they look for is the coverage it has. By then if ever something would go wrong, they would not to be ripped off, like people from this dealership and the company. I will post on the internet and facebook for people to contact me, so like I said, I might stop someone from getting one of these cars. All I could say is thank you for reading this letter and to let you know my true feeling about a Hyundai.

I was in a head-on collision in my 2004 Hyundai Elantra. I had my seat belt on, and I was the driver. My air bag light came on, but my air bag did not release. I suffered a great amount of pain, because my knees hit the steering wheel very hard.

I bought a brand new 2013 Hyundai right off the tractor & trailer. After 9 payments & 15,000 miles the turbo & motor are completely broke. Hyundai wants $10,000.00 from me to fix. I do not have it and shouldnt have to pay it. After 3 weeks of appeal, deny, appeal, deny, appeal, deny...I am trying to get a loan for the money. I bought Hyundai for the warranty. I expected the car to last longer than 9 months. So now Ill have a new car & 2 loans. This little car is not worth the now $34,000.00. A big business should stand behind their word. They are taking advantage of a customer. I will NEVER buy Hyundai again. I will tell everyone my story. I will also take advice on dealing with Hyundai. Please help. Dont even look at a Hyundai. Turn around. Run...Fast.

This is the last car I plan to ever have cuz gots all the options, loaded it - has it all. I have 20 year warranty, free car washes, and its the last car Im going to ever need - it will last forever. Car is fast too, nobody keeping up with it, they can keep dreaming because nothing comes close. This car rides so good and the gas mileage is crazy man, I never have to fill the tank on it. I fill up the tank and I can drive for 3 weeks and its still got a half tank left on it. Im never having any problems with this car and so glad I didnt buy a Honda. Hyundai is the way to go and the best car in the world.

My experience with Hyundai is the worst experience with a car company I’ve ever had and I’ve been leasing different cars for 25 years. I drove my 2021 Kona (top of the line) for 3032 miles before the entire transmission failed. I guess any car company can have a lemon in the batch so the fact that this car sucked isn’t what’s horrible about this story. It’s how Hyundai & Hyundai finance is treating me during the process of trying to return the car and get compensation back that’s hideous. They threatened my credit for a car I hadn’t had in months and made me continue to pay for it for months. They made me collect & turn in all the paperwork needed to get my case settled myself instead of helping and accessing their own records (copy of lease, payment records, etc.). Their entire computer/ website interface for customers fails every month and you have to call to get your profile erased so you can build another one… Only it remembers the email you used so every month you have to come up with a new email & hope this month their system for payment & account details doesn’t fail. They are offering me almost NOTHING back ($2300) even though I paid 1500 down & payments from September 2020-March 2021 at $367/month. They don’t even understand their own processes and told me that a significant amount of the money I am owed back for the car needed to be applied for at the dealership due to “separate contracts for alarm system, clear shield, & other aspects of the car’s system... But the dealership says that’s completely wrong. Oh ya, and every 30 days the paperwork I turned in expires & takes hours of effort on my part to resubmit. Do yourself a favor and RUN from Hyundai!

I took my 2013 Genesis in for a recall and was talked into trading it in and leasing a new Tucson. I then read that if I were to total the leased vehicle, I would be out the equity from my Genesis as the insurance would pay them, not me. I explained my concerns and was within the three days that the lease stated I had to cancel. They were upset and said that it wasnt true and that I would get the money. I said, If I rent an apartment and it burns down, I will NOT get the money, the OWNER will! So they kept saying that wasnt true and were angry but brought my Genesis back and I left, forgetting I had given them my title (free and clear). When I realized this, I called and they said they would send the title. It has been a week and I dont think Ill be getting it. I realize I shouldve done my homework first and avoided this embarrassing situation, but I am looking to trade in and buy a vehicle from them after a vacation Im planning. I told them this but still no title. Also, they just brought my vehicle in a huff and I didnt sign anything so Im hoping I dont get screwed worse than losing my title. If I receive the title tomorrow, Ill feel terrible and Ill have to delete this or update.

We purchased a 2012 Hyundai Accent the end of 2011 from Fairfax Hyundai in Fairfax, Virginia. Along with the car, we purchased an extended warranty that supposedly provides bumper to bumper repair peace of mind until 100,000 miles. Early in October, I called the Fairfax Hyundai service department to obtain our free oil change. I was told they could not schedule me for almost a week. It was already time for our warranty oil change, so I took the car to Just Tires in Fairfax, Virginia for an oil change. The Just Tires service tech came to me and informed me the Accents right rear brake pad was completely worn out and the rotors needed to be turned. The left rear pad still had lots of wear yet. The next day, I took the car to Fairfax Hyundai to get the car repaired under the Hyundai warranty. The Fairfax Hyundai service manager informed me that the repair was not under warranty because the right rear caliper slide had become dirty and stuck, thus causing the service problem. This was very disturbing to me since we paid an extra $1,200 for an extended warranty that was to cover everything that went wrong with the car except the radio and tires. I took the car to Mr. Tire in Fairfax, and they refused to fix the problem because they were adamant the caliper was Hyundais responsibility. At that point, I walked into the Fairfax Hyundai dealership and insisted to speak with the owner. Instead, a manager was available and he put me in contact with Kim **, the District Parts and Service Director. On 10-10-2012, Mr. ** told me that if I could get a Virginia State Inspection Station to report the car could not pass inspection due to a faulty caliper, he would see about repairing the car at no cost.I scheduled the car for inspection and a repair estimate on 10-15-2012 at CC Garage in Vienna, Virginia. I could not get an earlier date because this is one of the highest rated repair facilities in Northern Virginia and a Virginia State Inspection Station. CC Garage called me the next day and informed me the slide was no longer stuck and the caliper was working fine. He indicated he could not supply the report Mr. ** sought. At that point, I was fed up with the situation and told them to replace the pads and turn the rotors at a cost of $271. The rotors can only be turned a couple of times so now I am required to continuously worry when the caliper slide will become stuck again and cause another expensive repair. Eventually, this faulty caliper problem will require replacement of drums, rotors, and calipers. We wish we had not bought a Hyundai car at this point.I still felt Hyundai was not meeting its responsibility of honoring its warranty program. So yesterday, I started online research of similar problems Hyundai has had with brake calipers. My research indicates that this stuck caliper slide problem has existed since at least 2001, on various models of Hyundai passenger vehicles. I found complaints on your 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, and 2010 models. Now I have a 2012 with the same exact problem. Refusing to address this faulty engineering problem has caused many a USA citizen unnecessary repair bills that should have been covered under Hyundais warranty and then a fix of the problem instead of ignoring the problem for years. I request three things for Hyundai to do: 1) Reimburse me for the $271.00 repair; 2) Assure me in writing that any future repair costs due to caliper problems on this car will be covered under the cars warranty program; 3) Assure USA citizens that Hyundai USA will immediately address and fix this problem on their passenger vehicles. I will wait for a reply to my concerns until 11-25-2012.

Failure to live up to warranty - The ESC light comes on and the car goes into a limp mode? It vibrates and wont accelerate. Five failures in the past 30 days. The general manager now tells me the car is fine, but he cant say what theyve repaired. Meanwhile, Hyundai Consumer Assistance 800-633-5151 gave me a case number and then advised me that they shipped the case to their regional office but cant give me the telephone number. The regional office was to call me last week and then this week, no calls. Some warranty!

Hyundai is comfortable, has reasonable gas mileage, some luxury with leather seats and sun roof, rear window defroster and wiper, good stereo system, top carrier rack and cup holders in doors. It is also compact enough for one person, yet roomy enough for four people. It gets me anywhere and it has good consumer ratings. However, I wish there were more seat adjustments, air temperature control, heated seat temperature control, side mirror defrosters, different style of rear wiper so it doesnt get taken off in automatic car wash and heating system that doesnt blow warm air when fan is off. It also had some electronic issues early on that were covered under warranty. Rear wiper torn off in car wash twice. Must wash by hand.

Bought 2012 Genesis in July 2012. By Nov. 2012 noted rough ride on freeway and streets with small bumps or cracks would feel like car bottomed out with absolutely no Shock Sense which is still a problem today. Right veering/pull to right very minimal at first but now able to change lanes within approximately 3 seconds. Always told no issue found until recently. After researching the pulling to the right issue, many Genesis and other Hyundai cars have this issue, either right or left. Got Hyundai corporate involved and last time in shop for alignment issue, I drove with service tech to show pulling right issue. He agreed it did pull (same tech who 2 months earlier said there was no pull and even hinges was within specs). There is a Hyundai TSB for 2012 year put out in March of 2012 for alignment issue and how to evaluate it. Right front camber always in negative. Also excessive wear on right front tire even though rotated regularly. Black soot on tailpipe within a few months of having car, always told all OK. On looking up gdi 3.8 engines found this is a problem with need to use top tier gas and supposedly will need to clean intake valves, etc. Just research on Internet very interesting articles about gdi engines. Bluetooth drops phones and have to pair again with different name for phone. Just replaced carbon filter in fuel tank as on filling up gas pump constantly clicking off taking 15 minutes or so to fill up. Hyundai blamed veering to right in December 2015 on radial pull due to bad new tire or tires. We got second opinion from other alignment store and then obtained from where tires purchased. No radial pull noted, suspected strut and camber as camber in negative.Hyundai stated had to tweet subfamily on right to get right camber within specs. Interesting. Still have minimal pull to right but now dont change lanes within 3 seconds or less. For the paint chipping, we scratched or scuffed it up which is not true. We saw the exact same car color and year with the same problem on the frame under the driver door sill. Immediate response from Corporate and about week from their regional manager. Would definitely not buy another Hyundai. So fed up with this.

I purchased a Hyundai Genesis Coupe from Parkway Hyundai (Wilmington) in 2014. I was informed by the salesmen that offered me the extended warranty that I would receive coverage for 100,000 miles. Not up to 100,00 miles, but good for 100,000 miles. Huge difference, as the car had nearly 50k miles on it already when it was purchased. I made it very clear to the salesman that I needed coverage for 100k miles. I would have purchased a brand new car, not a used Hyundai with only 50k mile warranty if this had been explained to me correctly, and now the dealership is leaving me out to dry with a car that is not drivable, a higher car payment than what I would have had with a brand new car, (because the warranty is factored into it), and they are feeding me a load of BS.I do not recommend ANYONE, even my worst enemy to purchase from Parkway Hyundai, and also the salesman by the name of Mitchell was very distant to me after I purchased the car. I would drive all the way to Wilmington from out of town and stop by to get an oil change and he would give me blank stares and would not even greet me. What kind of customer service is that? To be nice to me long enough to sell me a car and then treat me like chopped liver after the deal is done. I let that slide because he is a younger guy, I am probably the first he ever sold a car to and he is probably long gone now if he treated someone else the same way, but yeah, I am done with Parkway Hyundai for good either way. They can forget me or anyone I know ever purchasing a vehicle from them ever again.

We own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. We check and change the oil regularly because there are numerous reports of Hyundai engine failure and seized Hyundai engines, for no known reason. Two weeks ago the Sonata engine seized. The dealer in York PA claims it had no oil however, my wife had topped it off 7-10 days earlier. Then my son checked the oil 3 days before the Sonata engine seized. It had oil.Do not buy a 2011 Sonata or any year Sonata. Google engine problems Hyundai Sonata. There are literally thousands of reported Hyundai engine failure. And there is a class action lawsuit. In addition it is a cheaply made vehicle. The fans squeak, the seats squeak, the Torque steer is outrageous; the Sonata has the worst torque steer of any front wheel car Ive driven. Weve had to invest over $5500 in this cheap car over the past few months. The used Sonata engine cost $3,100 and the York PA dealer gave us exactly 3 months or 3000 miles warranty. I will post my receipts in a few days. Stay away from Hyundai and do not buy a Sonata.

Hyundai Getz, repair of tail light - My partner recently cracked the plastic tail light on her car. Being a Hyundai, she took it to Hyundai in Brighton Victoria and was quoted $250 for the part and installation. It sounded steep so I bought the part from Repco ($60) and replaced it in about six minutes. I am no car expert. My dissatisfaction is that we were about to get ripped off by Hyundai. It makes me wonder why we would take the car for a service anywhere near Hyundai. There was absolutely no loyalty shown to us as Hyundai customers. I am not sure if Mazda or Holden would do the same, but this performance of customer service was appalling.

Dan was the man that helped me choose my car. I sort of new what I wanted but his thoughtfulness concerning price and payments was second to none. He also picked us up as we had no car due an accident. He ran through every aspect of what I needed the car for. Many thanks to all at the showroom supplying us coffee while we chose. So to all at the Newport showroom a big thank you and the car well that is just great. I love it.

I purchased the car late Sept 2015 and as of Feb 2016 have had issues with the idle, shaking at a complete stop and not getting the mileage advertised. I spoke to the dealership and Hyundai corporate and was told that no resolution is available at this time that when a resolution is available they would contact me. Am I just suppose to keep throwing my money away putting gas in this car and making my payments when its not even running appropriately?

My car had a recall that I was notified about. My car quit on me 2 weeks ago. I had it towed home, towed to a shop to learn that my motor had locked up. The recall was something with my motor therefore Hyundai towed my car to a dealer for repair. I have had NO car for 2 weeks. The dealer had NO loaner and I am already out almost $900 trying to repair my car. I was Advised to get a rental so another charge for this vehicle that is being repaired due to a recall. I am so frustrated at this point it is behind ridiculous. Patricia **

The headliner was damaged during a replacement of the sunglass holder recall. It has never been correct since. At approx. 54k, the engine failed and Hyundai replaced with an inferior short block vs. a long block engine, the rear seal was defective and had to be replaced, the engine protector plate fell off less than two weeks later. I have never felt safe in this car and sure enough 3 days ago, after going over NO huge bumps or hitting any pot holes, I came outside and the first 1.5 inches of the wheel bearing assembly was laying on the ground by the wheel. The tow truck driver said they overtorqued something when they replaced the engine. Not only will I never purchase another Hyundai, but I will recommend no one does either. After owning a Honda Civic for 14 years and 375k, this vehicle is a driving time bomb waiting to kill you!!

I love my Hyundai Tucson. The interior is as nice as a luxury car interior (comparing to a Lexus and Subaru of comparable size). It is easy to get into and out of but has more ground clearance than a sedan. It is easy to handle in most driving conditions. It sits on an Elantra chassis so in tight curves or with wind, I recommend slowing down. It is Hyundais middle sized SUV, the Kona is smaller and the Santa Fe larger and I believe there is a new SUV that is even larger. This is the perfect size for a single person or a couple, it is probably to small for school age kids in the back. The sound system is very good and the limited comes with heated seats and other nice options.

I bought a new 2016 Tuscan a few days ago and finding welcome light in the handle doesnt work. Door courtesy lamp doesnt work and acceleration is bad. Ive contacted the dealer (Sisley Hyundai) and they have asked me to take the car to the dealership. So far I have taken it back to the dealership twice. They couldnt give any satisfactory answer, neither could solve the issues so far. They have asked to take it back again but I feel they are just killing time and cannot do anything. These seems like a factory defect as I find lot of customers are also complaining the same. Hyundai Canada needs to recall this car immediately. And I would rank this car as - do not buy.

I have to say I WAS a huge Hyundai supporter. In fact, I referred a family member and a friend to buy one of your cars as well. I say WAS because my 2011 Sonatas engine blew and the dealership (Jim Ellis Hyundai - Atlanta, GA) cannot tell me why. They actually said it would cost $400+ if I wanted to know exactly what happened. They denied me warranty service and told me a new engine would cost $6,800 for a TWO (2) year old car. This is unbelievable to me from a company that stands on its warranties on their cars. I am sure Hyundai is aware that an unhappy customer will reach 10-20 times more potential new customers than a happy customer. I am at this time an UNHAPPY customer.

I have a 2009 Sonata with leather seats and 56,000 miles. It’s still under the so-called bumper-to-bumper warranty. The leather on the drivers seat is cracking and peeling (the same thing happened to my 2007 Elantra). The dealer said it was a wear item and not covered by warranty. I asked them to show me where in the book does it say this, and they pointed to a short sentence that says any wear item is not covered under warranty. They told me Hyundai has a list of not covered items. I called Hyundai to complain and the first thing he said is We have an extensive list of items not covered by our warranty. Wow, it would be nice if they put this in the customers warranty information. He put me on hold, and then came back and said that seats and upholstery are not covered by any warranty, not even for one day for new vehicle. It would also be nice if they told the truth in their advertising. They use the warranty to sell their cars, but they are in fact lying about their warranty coverage.

I purchased a 2020 Sonata Ltd 1.6 Turbo in March 2020. Since day one the engine has had a burning smell and I’m wondering how many other Sonata owners are dealing with this. I’ve taken the car in 5 times. They’ve done pressure checks for leaks, reached out to other Hyundai service centers and gone over the car with a fine tooth comb without finding the problem. I reached out to Hyundai Consumer Affairs who basically told me to live with it. So I’m asking, if there are any other 2020 Sonata owners with this problem, don’t let the service center tell you the smell will go away because it won’t. Call their Consumer Affairs at 1-800-633-5151 and lodge a complaint. I paid almost $40k for a car that I can’t even park in my garage because the smell is so bad and Hyundai wont address my problem. Also, if you’re thinking of buying a Sonata be sure to turn it on, raise the hood and put your nose down near the radiator. If you smell that burning coolant, WALK AWAY!! So so disappointed in Hyundai.

I own auto repair shop. Also I have a dealer license, I purchase a 2016 Hyundai Accent @ auction with 25000 miles, car runs beautiful, but we notice some weird noise when we put it in reverse. So we took it to this dealership (PRIDE HYUNDAI LYNN, MA). Long story short need a new tranny, dealership and this car company refuse to replace it because they said car was involve in an accident. Car is clean title, CLEAN CARFAX or CRASH REPORT, this F... people dont even know how a car runs. They only base everything according what a book said, STAY AWAY FROM HYUNDAI!!! THE FAMOUS 10 YEAR/100000 MILES FACTORY is a complete crap. Stay away from Hyundai!!!! For your own good.

We have had the 2014 Elantra a year which we bought directly from Woodland Hills Hyundai dealer. It wasnt cheap, as with the extended warranty of 100,000 miles it came to $24,000. We were never told the car did not come with a spare tire. We spent the evening of fathers day being towed back to the dealer and missing our plans because we got a flat tire. The response I was given as its like this in all the cars now. I know that isnt true, because we also bought a Toyota and Nissan which have spare tires. For a company that prides itself on safety, not having a spare or informing the purchase that there is no spare, is not ok!!! The car drives fine, but this to me reflects very poor customer service.

I was notified after I bought the car that all they give you is a can of spare tire. They do not even have a spare tire kit that you can buy until the end of this summer. The only thing I can buy is a new rim that fits and costs anywhere from $377.00 to $477.00, and thats without the tire. I drive a handicapped person, and this is very unacceptable, especially if something happens that cannot be fixed by spraying spare tire into it. Like I said, I was not told when I bought this car that there was no spare; or I would not have purchased it. I have dealt with Consumer Affairs at Hyundai and got no satisfaction whatsoever. I mentioned that if I was told there was no spare and I would not buy the car for that reason, they would have gone out of their way to give me one. This is very frustrating, since I cant even purchase one because there is no kit designed. I have already taken all their surveys before this was brought to my attention. But I would have told them what I really feel, if I had known. They seem to care, until you have an issue.

I had a frontal collision accident with my Hyundai i20 model 2010, which resulted in a total loss to the car. The air bag failed to open and I had severe hit in my face from the steering wheel. I complained to the Hyundai dealer in Jerusalem but they refused to check the air bag system.

I will never buy another Hyundai vehicle again...I took out a new lease (2014 Sonata) March 26th and traded in my old lease (2012 Sonata). Everything was great until November when I start receiving phone calls telling me I am behind a payment. I explained to the caller that I have my bank statement showing me that payment was made. She told me she could not see my account because it was the weekend. I then had to call back on Monday and fax my bank statement showing that my payment was made. I was then told I had to wait 4 days for them to review the document... Really?? I once again had to call Hyundai and was informed my April payment was applied to my old lease and she would transfer the funds and it would be all taken care of. Surprise - it wasnt!! I received phone calls again in January stating I was still behind a month in my payments. So I call Hyundai directly and speak to a supervisor. He tells me that my payment went to the wrong account and that account was closed and refunded to me on a refund check. I asked during each one of the phone calls if my credit would be affected. Each and every time I was assured that it would not be affected because I never fell more than a month behind. Remind you, I have not been a Hyundai customer for over 3 years and have never even been late with a payment!!! I was trying to refinance my house a few weeks ago and SURPRISE, my credit has dropped 30 points because of this issue!! I have been trying to speak to the head of the finance department but Hyundai does not believe in email. How does a major company like Hyundai not operate through email! The topper to this story is that my statements that I receive every month do not show a late payment until November of 2014. So I missed a payment in April of 2014 and Hyundai does not realize that until November of 2014. Yeah, that is a company I want to do business with!! I dont think so!!!

Purchased a 2014 Hyundai Equus with 71 miles on odometer and Hyundai Motor America said I not entitled to 10 year/100,000 powertrain warranty as a second owner. Car purchased on Aug 1, 2015, and although manual provides for mandatory arbitration through Auto Line at BBB, I have been systematically denied an opportunity to argue my warranty rights. It has now been 11 months and despite countless calls to customer care office and a detailed letter to new CEO of Hyundai, he has not responded at all! Never! The manager at customer care, known only as Steve, said my case warranted an exception and he would send all my paperwork to legal dept. of Hyundai in California. Said in February, 2016 a decision would be prompt. After following up several times due to no response, Steve has settled upon a course of action to not speak to me or share legal departments evaluation. Nobody should buy a Hyundai and probably a Kia for reasons that an honest dispute will not even be considered and Hyundai refuses to authorize the Better Business Bureau to arbitrate a warranty matter it believes it has no jurisdiction over. The BBB representative said “Just ask Hyundai to approve.” and Susanne said she would not. And Dave Duchowski, the CEO refused to intercede or reply to my fully particularized letter dated March 10, 2016. My intention is to publish a series of editorials nationally and to pursue a criminal complaint with Brian Frosh, the Attorney General for Maryland.

We decided to switch to Ford and turn in our leased Hyundai five months early. We were aware of the $400.00 disposition fee Hyundai. We paid all remaining lease payments, the car had only 19500 miles and was in as new condition. 3 weeks after the transaction, we get a bill from Hyundai for $2,200.00. As it turns out, the residual value is out the window, they took the car to auction and sold it for $1000.00 less. After hours on the phone with Hyundai Finance, we got nowhere. All they said was Its in the contract. Yeah its there but you need a law degree to understand it.Their bill did not include our check for the final 5 payments which they acknowledged receipt, but even gave us a hard time when I ask for a new bill reflecting this payment. It appears we still have to pay them $795.88. Do yourself a favor. Either dont lease a car from any company who charges these fees, or bring your lawyer to when you pick up your car. For our part we will NEVER buy another Hyundai.

We leased a new 2016 Hyundai in December 2016 and had nothing but trouble with the lease from the very beginning. Our Santa Fe was leased from a dealership in Colorado. We had no trouble on a previous lease but this time the communication between the leasing company and the dealership was horrible. The salesmen on the floor were using filthy language and the finance person didnt send the paperwork and our payment up front in for almost 60 days. Hyundai leasing called us to tell us we were late on our payment when we had not received any paperwork yet to make a payment. We set up payments through our bank and about 14 months later after the finance company did an update on their software they called again to tell us we hadnt paid our payment and our bank had not accepted the payment. We had received a confirmation number on the payment. The finance company was ready to ** us. Then I had them look at the bank info on their end. IT WAS INCORRECT!!! Our account showed no change(?). Again they fixed it and apologized to us. We couldnt wait to bring the lease back this December which by the way, was in EXCELLENT condition and 7,000 miles below what the millage of 30,000 miles. The dealership tried to sell us the car but we just turned it in. They had us sign a paper (which we never got a copy of) and said that was it and we could leave. Today we got a bill telling us we still owed $433.00 to bring the car in at the end of the lease that we were still responsible for the final payment and if there was any damage to car we turned in-we would be billed for that (???) plus a late fee if they didnt get the $433.00 in 15 days. Good grief! I had thought it was OK to drop our auto insurance when we turned it in!! What if they sold the car or were allowing people to test drive it?? We called Hyundai finance and they said it was their bill and not the dealerships. Nothing was said to us when we returned the PERFECT car. This sounds like a legal scam!! This never happened with our first lease. Why this time?? Its not like we have so so credit; it is over 800! This has been so distasteful that we will never go back to Hyundai nor will we consider a lease again. We will make sure to tell everyone we know not to lease from Hyundai. By the way; we immediately paid the $433.00 and got the CONFIRMATION NUMBER however they said it would take them two weeks to get the paperwork to us showing the lease was paid in full. Additionally, they said they couldnt send an email showing the final payment and release of the lease. I will be waiting and watching our bank account because-again-I DO NOT TRUST THEM!! We are not sure if they will do as they told us or will they say the payment didnt go through and bill us a late fee??? VERY unhappy with Hyundai and Hyundai finance.

My name is Daniel **. I am regretting the choice of buying a vehicle from Hyundai, who claims that they are there to help service the people and help me in general. Unfortunately, Hyundai is providing false information to there clientele. I recently just purchased my 2011 Hyundai Accent. The first week after having bought the car, I had issues. For instance, on the drivers door, there was a light scratch. The tail lights had water leaking inside, creating humidity. And the ignition circle was not firmly adjusted. The servicemen at my Hyundai dealership did fix the scratch without any issue. But they gave me problems towards the tail lights and the ignition key input to start the vehicle. After 6 months of owning the $ 23000 car, which is covered under the Hyundai warranty, I am extremely unsatisfied. Two weeks ago, I brought the Accent to the dealer due to a steering issue i had. They told me the front rim was dented and it was $ 155 to repair it. So, I agreed to this, seeing as it could have been possible as we have terrible roads over here. The following day, the car was making a whistling sound coming from the front tire that they worked on. The day after, I went back and it took them 1 hour an a half to figure out the problem. They charged me $90 without notice or knowledge that I had to pay for them to recheck the car (normally any garage or mechanic will call you first or consult with the client before putting a price to anything). The following week, I noticed a very loud rattling noise while starting the ignition. So as furious as I was, I called the dealership and asked them if they had room to see me. They advised me not till next week. So, I decided to bring the car to another dealer, because it is extremely inconvenient having a brand new car making this noise and causing me so much issues. The service at the new dealership was very kind. I asked if they can take a look at the lights and the rattling sound. They checked it. And then, they called me back a few hours after, saying the tail lights were not screwed in tight, and the metal shield beneath the vehicle wasnt intact enough. They fixed everything and charged me once more $70 without notice! Logically speaking, why would this not be a defect and not under warranty?!I am extremely frustrated. I never loosened anything on my vehicle. This is an issue that came from the manufacturer. This is a product complaint! What I want from you right now is what Hyundai promised me, which is if anything doesnt sound right with the car, you will come in and will examine it for free. Thats why you have a warranty! Where is the promise in that? Does Hyundai just talk strictly out of nowhere just to sell a car and make a couple of bucks commission? I refuse to pay for issues that were caused by bad mechanics from Hyundais part.

Great customer service. Ahmed worked with us and ultimately we walked out of there with a new Kona. Tom sealed the deal working his magic with the numbers. Definitely would recommend this dealership for first class service.

Saturday, August 13th, I purchased a 2016 New Hyundai Tucson Sport from Empire Hyundai, Inc. in the Fall River, MA branch. The vehicle had 19 miles. I did a lot of research on this car, dealing with Kasey **, the internet manager of Empire Hyundai. We had a very lengthy phone call and email conversation, where she gave us the final price, everything included. My husband and I wanted the purchase to be hassle-free, considering the drive to pick up the car was 40 miles from my house round-trip. We asked Kasey to start the paperwork for us, which she gladly said yes to. She assigned us to the sales person Rob **, who then brought us to Tyler **, the vice president and financial manager to get all the paperwork signed. Within 20 minutes we were able to see the vehicle. However, before we looked inside, Rob ** informed us that there were three cigarette burns on the passenger seat, but reassured us that it would be fixed and that they would provide us with a rental car at no cost to us while they do so. My husband and I left after, and on that Monday morning I called and asked if the rental car was ready because I had to work that afternoon. When I arrived, Rob greeted me and brought me to the receptionist, who said there was no reservation for a rental car for me, so she called to get one. About fifteen minutes later, Kevin ** from Enterprise came to pick me up and bring me to their branch to get the rental. It was not brought to me. Kevin apologized that they did not have a reservation for me for a rental. The only car available due to the lack of reservation was a 7-passenger Grand Caravan. Three days passed and I did not receive any calls to inform me of the progress of my vehicle. I called once with no answer. I called once more and asked to speak to the owner, but he was not in that day. I then asked to speak to the vice president Tyler **, the son of the owner. He told me he did not know anything about the progress of my vehicle because he works for the financial department. I demanded he do something, considering he was the vice president of the company. He then transferred me to Rob, who informed me that the car was not ready yet because they had to purchase a whole new seat, and the workers had to install it.I told him I was getting impatient and displeased, considering I was forced into driving around a huge caravan, and told him if I did not get more answers on the progress of my car by 4 pm, I would consider returning the vehicle altogether. By 4:30, Rob called and said that the vehicle was ready to come pick up. I got there and looked at the car, and it was filthy, both outside and inside. I told him that the least they could have done was to wash the car after all my troubles. He told me to sit inside and wait, as he was dealing with other customers. I waited for about a half hour before I spoke to anyone else. No one would come speak with me, especially the manager, Paul **, who I had asked for. Finally, the lease specialist, Donald **, came over to me and asked if I would be happy if they cleaned the car and put gas in the tank. I thought it was quite unprofessional that that was all they could do for me after the trouble Id gone through. As I was about to leave, I asked them why the manager, Paul, was not on that night, and they informed me that he in fact was the entire time, and he did not bother to come speak to me the whole time I was waiting to talk with someone. They got Paul to come speak with me, and he offered to install a remote starter. They also said they would put covers on the front two seats. When I got the car back again, the seat covers were still in the process of being shipped, and the remote starter was not working correctly. It started by itself five times in one day in fact. Therefore, I have to bring the car to the shop to get that fixed, while still waiting for the seat covers, and on top of all of that, there is a hole in the flooring below the passenger seat; a flap that looks as though it should have been glued down.Needless to say, I had an awful experience at the Empire Hyundai car dealership and would not recommend anyone to buy a car there, especially at the Fall River branch. These situations should not be occurring when youre involving the purchase of a $31,000 vehicle, a brand new one at that. My boss, the Operations Director at 99 Restaurants, also shared with me a similar, awful experience he had had at Empire Hyundai. I hope that this will bring attention to this dealership, warning others to steer clear and pursue other dealerships when purchasing a car, and hopefully enhance the performance of the way this business is run. Thank you.

2011 I bought one of the first Equus. I loved & enjoy driving that car. On Oct 3 I went to Lehman Hyundai Subaru, Inc. to lease a Sonata and have to inform you all that in all my long business life (I own a limo company in NYC) I never been treat so badly. Im still waiting for a check $1950. Im still waiting for a regular plates. Im still waiting for a receipt on who they deliver my car. I lost so much time chasing people at that dealership that I will place a formal complaint to every agency in USA that I will find.

I bought my Accent on 2006: very economy in fuel, keep a regular maintenance and zero problems until now, look same than on 2006. The guarantees was for 10 year. Now they offer change car or new guarantee for 5 years.

I have had nothing but issues since I bought this car. I bought a 2015 Elantra Sport, with 800 miles on it in October of 2015. Seemed like a great car. I got a good deal (I paid 18,000), its a top trim level so hopefully the quality would be good. First thing that happened, the dealership insisted I change the oil every 3,000 miles. The service manual clearly states 7,500 mile intervals. They scolded me and told me to bring it in more often. Okay fine, whatever.Second, the dealership did a recall repair (I never approved, they just did it) to my sunroof, which resulted in a damaged headliner, AND they dropped a screw in my defroster vent that I could hear roll around as I would make corners. I took it back and Hyundai approved replacing the headliner. They also took the dash apart to retrieve the screw. The work order said removed debris, the tech didnt remember what he took out. It also still rattled and then produced a different rattle above 75 MPH. (So much more higher quality coming from the top end trim level). I should note they had the car for several days, no loaner car was given.Next, I noticed my steering column was loose after they disassembled my dash. I could move it side to side. Also the clutch squeaked when you released it. And the dash still rattled. So I took it back in. several days later and no rental car, the steering column was within spec, they couldnt replicate the clutch squeak, and they werent allowed to fix rattles and squeaks past 5,000 miles or something like that (came from the service manager). Next issue, the AC goes out. Its Texas. Its July. Its hot. Can i get a loaner car? No. They werent sure if it could be fixed under warranty (30,000 miles now). How is this not under warranty?! They had the car for several days. Turned out the AC compressor failed internally so it was replaced under warranty. No loaner car. Now, most recently. The car has 59,700 miles. The engine starts to make a noise that sounds like a high speed rattle. My guess was the water pump impeller rubbing. So I took it into a different dealership. This time they cant diagnose it, but its easy to replicate so there is no doubt theres a problem. 5 days goes by and they finally set me up with a rental car through Enterprise. One month goes by and they tell me they are going to replace the engine. That opened up a whole new set of issues. Apparently, the engine in my two year old car is now obsolete. Instead of buying a long block crate engine (like they originally told me) they are buying a short block and sending the engine off to an outside repair shop to build it.I went to the dealership to look at the engine (I do a lot of car repair, and Im a Mechanical Engineer). The timing chain is hanging slack and theyve removed one of the camshaft retainers. The car is parked outside, with no valve cover. Lovely. They tell me the engine is being replaced due to lack of lubrication (very vague and general). My guess was broken timing chain tensioner. I saw no low pressure light, and there was no presence of metal in the oil during the last oil change (I had a sample sent to a lab for analysis). They told me that its a good thing I brought it in when I did. Because my Powertrain Warranty Expires at 60,000 miles! Apparently, because I bought it used the 100,000 mile warranty doesnt apply to me.Well that was it. Im getting rid of the car. I asked them to give me a price on what theyd buy it from me for. They responded with because its having major engine work, we can only give you $6,000. So basically. A $24,000 car, in two years, and 60,000 miles, becomes worth 25% of its original value. I am never buying another Hyundai.

I just bought a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The steering wheel locks (and clamps down electronically where you have to be strong to turn wheel to turn key) and I cant start the car. I need another person to turn the steering wheel because it locks so hard. I have been stranded twice where I needed help. Hyundai wont stand behind fixing it. They say it is the way it is designed. Something should be done about it. I had it in service a few times. I have a car that will not run. And when it does, it has the roughest ride of any car I ever had, especially on the freeways. I am 87 years old and between the rough ride and now this starting problem, Im very upset that I have to fight to get my money back. This should be a recall item. What do we do? Doesnt implied warranty state that I will get a car that I can start and that I wouldnt be stranded in 105 deg. heat like I did? It is a serious health and safety Issue.

After purchasing a 2011 Sonata, I went back within a week with a steering problem - pulls to left at highway speeds. I left the car with them; the car still pulls to the left. I consider this a safety issue since more effort is required to keep the car tracking straight. Hyundai Motor Corporation is extremely uncooperative also, hoping that I would just give up through frustration.

2008 Hyundai Sonata - Driving to work 2 weeks ago, I noticed the rear end of the car felt strange, some movement in the rear end. As I was driving something happened in the rear of the car. I knew I was going to wreck - my car moved so quickly and spun to right, knocking me out. From my understanding of the wreck from a man who observed the wreck - I flipped multiple times, was on my side, landed upside down and slid upside down fast and for some distance and hit a tree (?), a stump came up inside the car - Jaws of Life had to remove me. I am recovering and a guardian angel had to be with me to have survived this horrible wreck - something happened in the rear of the car - there is a recall for a crossbar in the rear suspension that can erode due to snow, salt etc...?

I bought my daughter a new 2004 Elantra GT. The dealer have not been able to correct a starting problem with the vehicle. The dealer could not solve the problem while the vehicle was under factory warranty. And until this time, the dealer have sold us parts that we didnt need, saying that the various parts would solve the starting problem. Nothing they have tried have worked. Never will we ever purchase another Hyundai.

I purchased a brand new 2015 Hyundai Genesis on Dec 5 2015 and began having problems almost immediately with check engine light flashing and the car not starting and locking up on me? I traded my 2014 Kia Cadenza in on this car with 14,000 miles on it and only had to change the oil 2 times with NO problems! I took my car in for service and had the electrical harness replaced 2 times and ECM replaced but the same problem with the electronics persisted after 7 times in for service in 5 months. I resorted to the Lemon Law in Nj in April 2016 with 2500+ miles on my Genesis. Still making payments and full coverage insurance on my car. Finally I was given a court date in May 22 2017 but a week before Hyundai Motors of America (HMA) made an offer thru my Lemon Law attorney to buy the car back and I just wanted to get this mess resolved because the car has been in the shop since May 5 2017 and the Tech havent found the problem yet?Today is August 10 2017 and my nightmare continues. I dont have the settlement I was promised by HMA yet. NO car. The dealer took the loaner back after several weeks and the Lemon Law attorney has been telling me the settlement checks have been ordered but I am STILL making car payments and FULL coverage on a car that I cant drive and NOBODY is looking out for my interests the attorney seems to work for HMA instead of me? This has been the worst summer of my life! NEVER again HMA!

I purchased my Accent 2007 brand new off the lot. It is a 5-speed manual shift. I have had extreme brake problems ever since but thats the least of my trouble. Driving to work one night last week, I was moving in traffic and the car just shut off. Luckily, I was able to drift safely to the side of the road I was on. I had to have the car towed to my garage. The next morning, the mechanic called to give me the bad news. My timing belt broke. Okay, I could handle that until he told me the rest... In these cars, when the timing belt breaks, the valves in the motor keep moving and are most likely bent. So I have to pay for the repair and when we try to start it, we will know for sure. I am sick over this. I am on a tight budget and cannot afford a new car at this time. My job is 50 miles one way and I now have no way to get there. Shame on Hyundai for placing such a faulty piece of equipment in their vehicles. I owned a Hyundai Excel years ago and had 200,000 plus miles on it and only ever had to replace a thermostat in it. Had I known how poorly Hyundai is building their cars now, I would have never bought another one. But you can bet that I will never purchase another, nor will anyone in my family. I also work in a big hospital... Thats a lot of potential customers, Hyundai.

THE WORST!! I would choose zero stars for the review if it was an option! We financed our car from Hyundai Finance in November 2019 and waited 3 months to receive our title, but we never received it. We then relocated to another state and to be able to register our car, we needed our title. So, we requested a duplicate title from Hyundai in February 2020. We still haven’t received our title because Hyundai Finance fails to address our request properly every time for TWO YEARS. We have been sending countless checks and request letters to Hyundai Finance for them to request a duplicate title from the DMV for us, but they keep saying they haven’t received any checks, even though they are all delivered. For two years now, we haven’t been able to register our car in the state we live in because of the incompetency of the Hyundai title department. There is no way to call the titles department or even send a direct email to them. We have been calling customer service for two years, asking them to send emails on our behalf to the title’s department. But still no action and no clear response!! They even sometimes hang up on me instead of addressing my concerns and requests. This is the WORST experience I’ve ever had with a company in my life!! BEWARE and stay clear of Hyundai Finance!!

From the hundreds of complaints I have read about Hyundai and their airbag lights, Im beginning to understand that you either live with this problem or you find another car. I pulled out my airbag fuse because Im tired of looking at the light and Im certain that this is a problem that neither I (mechanic for 8 years) or a mechanic at a Hyundai dealer could ever fix. My car is a 2003 Hyundai accent. I maintain this car very well and Im happy with the decent gas millage it gets, but safety is also a huge priority. Im not going to put my life on the line because Hyundai doesnt want to provide support for their customers. Let us know what the problem is so customers like myself could at least fix it.Obviously, this is a consistent and similar problem, otherwise you wouldnt have so many thousands of people complaining. Tells us and make the solution affordable, quit lying to people Hyundai. Glad my other car is a Nissan and not another Hyundai. Hyundai = embarrassment.

We traded in my Hyundai Tucson for two new 2008 Sonatas in 2008. We are not happy at all with the quality of the cars. After going in 2010 for an oil change the dealer told me I needed 4 new tires. He insulted me by saying that I must drive like a maniac. We didnt trust that every time we went for an oil change or maintenance they seemed to find something else wrong. They asked us for a second chance to service our cars. So on 12/14/11 we went with hesitation for oil changes. For the past year we were taking our cars to Meineke for maintenance since they guarantee their work and are a lot cheaper. Never fail, this time they claimed I needed 2 new tires, and hubbys car needed new brakes at $1159.00. We told them to just do the oil changes. After we picked up our cars my husband’s car just broke down after 3 blocks. We called them and got it towed back to the dealer which I thought was covered, but turns out it was our expense also. They claim it was the fuel pump. We had no choice but to let them fix it or tow it somewhere else. They still got us for $750.00. We wonder if they shorted something because we werent going to let them do the brakes for $1159.00. As of today 12/26/11 we still owe 2 more years payments and are very worried what else is going to happen to these cheap quality vehicles. We have dealt with Chevrolet and Toyota and never had a problem with the quality or felt like we were being ripped off royally. Hyundai constantly sends us offers to trade in our cars and we were seriously thinking about it. Now we just wish we could give the cars back and go somewhere else. We cant believe this is happening before we even have them paid off. We wish we could use the lemon law to help us. We will tell anyone who asks not to buy a Hyundai. Buying a Hyundai is like going to the 99 cent store for cars. You get what you pay for.

The Hyundai Equus is a full size ultra-luxury auto that does everything at the highest levels. The ride is like floating on a cloud, 429 HP packs a punch, lots of leg room and trunk space and the car is beautiful on the outside. Cost is substantially less than any vehicle with similar features. Home run!!!

The fuel pump on my 2009 Sonata, bought on 5/30/2009, went bad stranding me away from home. Even though car is less than three years old, at 70,000 miles, I was told is was out of warranty. Rental car cost me $120; tow cost me $72; fuel cost me $350; labor cost to install cost $200. Total cost is $772 for a car I am still paying $300 a month on. It needs better design so fuel pump lasts and make access to fuel pump better so whole gas tank doesnt have to be removed. I had an Elantra for eight years then traded up to Sonata. I will not buy another Hyundai after this experience. For a car and brand that touts reliability, this issue (I understand it has happened many times) is unacceptable.

Brought in my 2015 Hyundai Elantra for service, mechanic stated it needed an oil pump and an engine and it would take a month to fix. When I asked about a rental I was told that they had no cars. Tie my car up for a month and dont offer alternate transportation. Totally unacceptable. I will never purchase another hyundai ever again.

I took my car in because I have been having trouble with the transmission. I have been very stressed because I do not like to drive a car that shows it is having problems. I have problems when I put it in reverse. I jumps and jerks. Also when I get on the free way, it struggles to shift gears. I was told that I needed to drive it for one or more months until the transmission breaks more. I am very worried because I get very nervous knowing it might leave me stranded or worse if I am in a free way.

I do not understand, and I will try to summarize my experience so as to save everyone the grief of reading an extensive unpleasant experience. In short, I have leased with Hyundai since I was 20 years old. I am 24 now, and this car (so am on my second lease now) is one of the biggest regret of my young adult life. For my previous leased vehicle, I was hit with a bill of nearly 5,000 dollar, which a very big chunk of that money did not apply to my actual balance since I continued to lease with them. After the proper deductions, my bill went down to about 3,600. That is fine, except that each time I called to have a number confirmed, I received a different quote. I once called literally sobbing because I had no idea what to do, in which I was “helped” by a woman that talked over me the whole time, was terrible at explaining anything to me, and told me I could “get a second job” to try to pay for my balance. Okay. I paid the money and received a voicemail (not very clear to make out what it said) saying something about my balance. I called back to try to get back to that person, had their extension and everything to confirm that they received my payment, and literally spent 20 mins on the phone with someone, intermittently getting put on hold, only to be told they could not find the extension or the balance I was speaking of. I finally have let it go and assumed that they received my payment. This is the gist of that experience. Today, I called because I am having trouble with the radio playing over the music I am streaming, so I called to get help. The lady on the phone said “we don’t help with that, I can give a number of you have anything to write down” and I said that I was driving, asked if I could get forwarded to the proper place. So she forwarded my call, and a lady answered and I could not hear or understand her at all. Finally, she spoke closer and I could hear her louder but still not well. I explained my problem, she said “yeah we don’t help with that” so I told her I was forwarded and didn’t know what to do. She literally said “thank you have a nice day” and hung up. HUNG UP. I was mid sentence and baffled and honestly, I am starting to figure things out on my own whenever I have a problem with my Hyundai vehicle, because customer service has been so incredibly unhelpful, rude, and appalling to interact with, honestly. It’s so shameful, and I am not sure if this is normal? Do other vehicle companies do this to their customers? I am planning to purchase my current vehicle so I will be with Hyundai for a long time, which sincerely fills me with dread and I am starting to feel resentful. This has been a terrible experience since the start, and I don’t call anymore to spare myself the stress of interacting with these people. I don’t even have the words. Just absolutely terrible.

I purchased a 2012 Tucson on 10/3/15 (yes just last week). I had the car NO JOKE 4 HOURS and the car began stalling out. The dealership came to pick it up that day, 4 hours after bringing it home. They have had it since. They still have no idea what is wrong with my car and I am getting the runaround. I bought it from a Chevy Dealer, did a trade in on my 2011 Chevy Cruze, which was mechanically sound/perfect. Now, the dealership tells me they had to send it to a Hyundai Dealership for further review. HELLO my father has been a mechanic for 20 years. A GM Mechanic (he lived in another state or I would have him fix it). He knew exactly what was wrong - electrical/computer issue. Once the car reaches a certain temperature the car shuts down. I relay this to the dealership and they treat me like I have no clue. Come to find out after them spending 4 long days on it, its a computer/electrical issue. I cannot believe I am going through this with a new purchase. I am stressed, pissed and paying for a car I cannot even drive/let alone have for more then 4 hours. Lastly, today I found out that there is a recall on this car. I told them I dont want this car anymore. I do not feel safe and to put me in something else. They flat out told me no because they will fix my car. Oh yeah fix my car? WHEN! I am still waiting.

This 2014 Hyundai Elantra is the worst car I ever own! I had nothing but problems with this car. It stalls out all the time. I have it to the dealership 4 times and they cant find anything wrong. No codes and the plastic piece broken off when I pulled it up to, now the front end where my fog lights are the driver side plastic part has came off, I had my fuel injections cleaned at 15,000 and still this car stalls. This has been a bad experience with Hyundai main office not covering anything on my car and I had my case open 4 times over the same issues. I cant wait to get rid this car, I will never buy a Hyundai again.
I purchased a new 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS with a manual transmission about
I purchased a new 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS with a manual transmission about two or three years ago. I considered it to offer the most value for the price back then compared to an Accord, Camry, and other models. Unfortunately, I believe I made a mistake with this purchase. I wrote about my problems with this car on this forum before. Now, its time for a brief update. The power locks stopped working intermittently. This was a result of an electrical problem in the drivers side door panel. Thats not something that should happen in a car that is less than 3 years old. Another issue is that the iPod charger does not charge properly either, so sometimes my iPod has no battery power left even if it was charging while the car was on. The clutch master cylinder also has been replaced twice: once at about 12,000 miles and again at about 35,000 miles. The car has 40,000 miles on it now. Both times, the master cylinder was replaced free of charge. However, when I was getting a routine oil change about two weeks ago, the Hyundai technicians said that I needed a brand new clutch. Incredulous, I went home and found the maintenance records for the master cylinder because it had already been replaced twice. I went back to the local Hyundai dealer the next day and showed them these records and they said this had nothing to do with replacing the entire clutch and that it would not be covered under warranty. I asked why not and he said that the clutch was only covered by a 12-month/12,000 mile warranty because it was a consumable part.” He also said that the clutch can go out at 15,000 miles or 60,000 miles--depending on how you drive the car. Of course, Ive only driven cars with manual transmissions, so I know how to drive them. Ive driven cars that are much older than this one that have never had clutch problems, including an 11-year old Daewoo. But my Sonata made a rattling sound when it was idling and the gear shifts were not smooth. Now I know why. Anyway, after shelling out $1900, the car runs much better. But Im tired of dealing with maintenance issues with this car. I really want to like my Sonata, but I can no longer trust it. I think I would have been better served by paying the extra $1500 for a brand new car from a competitor instead of wasting my money and time being disappointed by a car that I really wanted to like that always seem to have a defective part or a part that is constructed of substandard quality. Theres not much dealership support and the parts dont seem particularly reliable. My wife had many problems with her 2007 Hyundai Accent as well, so I think Ive seen enough. We will not purchase another Hyundai.

I was the owner of a 2012 Tucson purchased in August of 2011 from Hyundai of Paramus. As part of my sale package, I requested a trailer hitch be put on the vehicle. The dealership had me bring the car in to the service department in early September to have the hitch put on. When I went to pick up my vehicle, I asked for the paperwork from the service. The worker there told me that since it was not being paid for by me but was part of my sales deal, that I didnt need anything. I said Supposed I have problems with it? They said just bring it back to the dealership, that the info is in the computer. I didnt know any better so I left. I went to sales to confirm what the worker in service told me and the salesman said No problem, dont worry if you have any situations, we will handle it.A couple of months later, I wanted to go fishing and was going to pull the boat. Well the hitch mating was too small. My friend laughed at me and said That hitch cant pull anything. It was kind of small. I went back to the dealership, told the salesman that sold me the vehicle that I needed them to change the hitch and put a 2x2 hitch like I originally requested and he told me he would get back in touch with me. Months past no contact. We forgot about trying to tow anything anywhere. It was just a cute additional thing on the back of my vehicle. (They never switched the hitch for me. I was told I waited too long, that the place that installed it would think it was used. I was never able to use it!)Anyhow, on February 9th, we had a snowstorm. I drove my vehicle home and parked it. In the middle of the night the break lights came on and would not turn off. I was going to take it to the dealership first thing in the morning but when I awoke, my car was in flames. Luckily no ones property except mine was damaged, anyhow. I had to report it the fire to my insurance. Instead of the fire being handled by warranty through the dealership, the insurance co. started a claim (the dealership refused to look at the vehicle). My vehicle should have been replaced - covered by warranty, but unfortunately was totaled out by the insurance co.Most of what I owed on the car was covered through the claim and I was left with a $5,000.00 bill. I requested Hyundai to absorb the debt because it was no fault of mine the vehicle caught fire. They would not. I asked Hyundai Motor Finance to absorb the balance due because of the fire and to consider my perfect credit with them. They referred me to Hyundai Consumer Affairs which did absolutely nothing. They said if it had been covered under warranty it would have just replaced my car, but since I had an insurance claim already started, there was nothing they could do...I wound up having to buy another Hyundai because I had a balance. I was hoping to combine the balance from the previous car into the new one. That happened but not with Hyundai Motor Finance. They wanted too much per month and a higher interest rate. So I got the finance with another lender for the new vehicle (2 years older than the one I had with nicks in the paint, took 3 months to get the touchup paint pen from the dealership they promised me with the purchase). The dealership was eager to serve me to get me into another vehicle. They were all polite and calling me and everything, as soon as I signed the papers on the new vehicle. All that stopped. I was never told by the dealership that the warranty money I paid which was included in the cost of purchase price of the vehicle I lost to fire was supposed to be reimbursed to me; I found that out while complaining about the financing company and the consumer affairs dept. of Hyundai from someone in recoveries. They let me know that since my account was now paid off in full, that I was due to receive the warranty money back from the 2012 vehicle.I got in touch with the dealership. They said I needed a payoff confirmation letter from the finance agency. I brought them one in the first week of April 2013 showing that my account was paid off in full on March 3. They put the paperwork in to get my reimbursement of warranty funds. They calculated what my expected reimbursement was supposed to be and gave me a copy of the paper which was filled out by the finance manager at the dealership. It plainly stated to reimburse the customer directly (account was pd. in full), attached the payoff letter. I waited - its now May, I call the dealership, no one returns my calls. I continue to try and call them and then have to go in person because no one would return my call.I was told when I went in person, they had to do my paperwork over again and re-submit it to the warranty company. They had requested information to know if I still had the burned up vehicle or if I had purchased a new car from Hyundai. Neither should have been relevant to my claim for reimbursement since the car was paid off in full! My papers went to the warranty company a second time. I waited until June and called the dealership many times. Finally, I called the consumer affairs division of Hyundai again to be given the number to the warranty company. I called them, they said, Oh, your funds were approved and the check was sent to the dealership.I was angrier then. I asked why it was sent to the dealership and not mailed to me. They said thats how they do it. Well I went to the dealership in person again because after numerous calls, they never returned my messages. I was told on July 2nd that they would have their finance department give them the check and I could pick it up on Friday the 5th. I told them I needed my money, I have been waiting for months and was told I would be called when the check came in and the owner signed off on it. I was never called.July 5th, I got very angry with the receptionist at the dealership because she would not get a live representative on the phone for me and kept transferring me to voice mails or to service, when I asked for specific people that sit directly in back of her station. She finally got me someone. That employee told me that the check was paid to the bank (the financing bank/Hyundai Motor Finance) on June 3rd, stated the total amount and everything! Now there is smoke coming from my ears. On top of them lying to my insurance company about the trailer hitch which caused the fire on my 2012 Tucson, they now have taken over a grand out of my pockets and I am still trying to recover from my losses.I call the finance company and speak to the representative who admits yes, I was correct, my account was paid in full on March 3, 2013 and does not know why I have not been sent my reimbursement of funds yet. She needs to speak with her boss. They put me on hold. She told me that they were going to have the check released to me on Monday, which would have been the 7th of July. I asked them why they kept it, knowing that I didnt owe them any money. They claim it had to clear 10 days (thats unheard of with chk.21).Anyhow, she was supposed to call me back on the 7th. She never called. On the 11th July, I called HMF Hyundai Motor Finance to see what was going on with my check. I was told by another employee that the check was sent out on the 9th. I figured I would have received it by now. Nope, still no check. I called yesterday and was told that they authorized the release of the check on the 9th of July but cant tell if it went out yet. Hum.. its July 18th, they have 1081.25 of my money, I was never late, never missed a payment and yet they got my money in error and for some reason dont want me to have it back... I am appalled. I left a message on their directors voice mail and he has not had the dignity to return my call either. I want them all exposed. Enough is enough. Oh by the way, my Certified Pre-Owned 2010 Tucson just broke down on me. The radiator cracked and I was stranded, roadside assistance (the only good thing I see about Hyundai came and towed the vehicle) and the dealership still has my truck for the 2nd full day now. I was not even given a courtesy loaner car and work far away from home. They seem not to be that concerned about that either. They are telling me you should be happy the parts are covered by the warranty. Well, it just ought to be.I have been given such a runaround, lies on top of lies, incomplete customer service and lack of real concern about any of the issues I have been experiencing with the dealership and the financing co. and service. Do not expect any more courtesy than what you receive before you sign the line.

I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata new. The first piece of plastic to break was the sunglasses holder. Then the cover for the mirror on the drivers side, the center console clip broke, 4 door handles. The last one I bought 1 month ago, and it broke today. I paid $154 for this one. My husband and I are retired so we are not rough on this vehicle.

Their website has an online test drive schedule system and when you get to the dealership the best answer they can give is we just sold the car, Whats the point of having an schedule ahead system if they cant even make sure there is a unit available for the customer to test drive... Well sir we are in the car selling business a mediocre manager replied. So, because you are in the toilet sales business you will just sell me the toilet you have in your office, right? This brand is a joke.

I love Hyundai. It has been a wonderful vehicle so far. I am very thankful for it because it has helped our family so much when we had nothing and was told this was a gift. It gave our family of 7 a roomy vehicle and able to get from point a to point b. We dont have to drive 2 or 3 vehicles to haul everyone around. It has automatic doors by button, different heat settings for front and back, lots of seating for as many people as we got and it gives us ease that we will always have it. However, it is very hard to fix some of the issues that it has because parts arent cheap for it. But thankfully a friend of mine has came to the rescue once on fixing an issue Ive had with the van. Its also hard on gas which is frustrating and sometimes parking is an issue. You cant park in a tight spot because of how big the vehicle is.

Starter of my 2011 Hyundai Sonata went out on August 1, 2012. I work in Oakland so I managed to get it back to Fresno. I took it to Lithia Hyundai Service department. Heath ** was the assigned service advisor. He said they will take a look and get back to me. Well, Lithia replaced the starter and said there was a recall on something regarding the starter. I picked up my car on August 3rd. While driving on August 6th, without warning, smoke started coming from hood area and shortly after a flame. I managed to pull off road to a parking lot where the car died. I immediately called AAA to tow to Lithia. While waiting, I took pictures. Service department was closed so I left in lot until morning. I returned to tell what happened. Heath said they would take a look. He called 20-30 minutes later to tell me engine has hole.Mind you, in returning my car the first time from the starter repair, I was told and given paperwork stating everything else was good. He recommended two tires, an air filter, and front brakes. He assured me everything else was okay. Now one month later, I called to find out whats going on with my car. Heath told me he wants to repair because he can make $7,000. I needed to bring him a receipt of my oil change. I have done that and my car is still sitting in service department at Lithia Hyundai. I called every week but get he hasnt heard from Hyundai yet. I asked him to call me when he does, the pictures hes sending and he didnt comply. He told me it would be done by the afternoon. I went to Lithia and my car was still sitting outside in back of shop. I went back on Saturday and it was on a lift.Heath was not in and no one else could answer my questions. I was told everybody handles their own cases. I returned that Monday and Heath told me he sent pictures and docs. I asked for copy. He refused. He just gave me pictures. I dont know whose car that was from. I have since called every week. He said he has no answer yet. I have been away from work since August 2nd. On August 24th, I lost my job of 18 years. I am not a happy camper. My car is new and has little mileage and it should not have caught fire.

My 2007 Hyundai Entourage at 49,798 miles had to have its pulley replaced at my expense. Obviously the part was defective. The dealer said there was no implied warranty, so I had to pay $279.57 for the labor and part. I never had a pulley replaced on any car I owned. One van had over 250,000 miles on it, and the pulley on it was still good.

I have a 2011 Gen Coupe 3.8, purchased in Oct 2010. My steering wheel started peeling about 3 months ago (around 7,000 miles) and I brought this issue up to my dealership a little over a month ago. They said, Hey, thats not right, and wont get any better. So the way Hyundai does things, is to take a picture, and send it to the regional manager. About a week later, I got a call from the dealership saying the Hyundai representative denied replacement. I was a little upset, but the peeling wasnt too horrid yet.About a month down the road, the peeling has gotten really bad, and its about 2 inches long, and wraps halfway around the wheel. You barely touch the spot, and this black plastic just falls right off. I brought my car in again, for a new picture/replacement request. The representative again denied it. And the dealership said, Hes denying it because they have no fix right now, Hyundai knows its an issue and will just happen again if they replace it. So Im stuck with a crappy peeling, ugly steering wheel now. I even called Hyundai corporate and they said the regional manager has the final say.Way to go Hyundai, some 10 years/100k warranty you have there!

On 8/8/2017 my Hyundai Elantra vehicle started clunking as a way getting on to the highway. After pulling over, I saw a huge puddle of oil that was leaking out of my vehicle. After having it towed and inspected I was told that something let loose in the engine and blew a hole right through. This was after only going through a puddle but then having all parts affect cleaned out. A week later this is what happens. I have never owned a vehicle where the engine had to be replaced so quickly. It is only a 2015 with 109,000 miles approximately. I had a previous 2010 Hyundai that surpassed that mileage. I believe that something is defective in the way they have made these engines in newer year models. Everyone should be aware of this before purchasing because I am now spending thousands of dollars after only 2 years of owning the vehicle on top of being stuck with a significant amount due on my car loan.

I called road assistance on my 2016 Azera. After 1 years and half the car wont start. I have been waiting for the towing car almost 3 hours. Not a fast service at all. Very disappointing. I called back and they said the first driver had an accident on the freeway and that they are sending another one.

I purchased the 2013 Elantra in March 2014. The clutch seemed difficult to me but I hoped it would be okay, thinking it was probably just my imagination. Yesterday early AM the clutch went out completely. I gave up AAA for the Hyundai roadside and waited 4 miserable hours for them to tow me to the dealer...only to learn the clutch is not covered under their great Warranty. I was like a wild woman at that point...they did give me a loaner car but my problem is still pending with the Hyundai regional Office... I used the problems everyone else here is having as ammunition because if they dont cover the clutch...I am not taking the vehicle back...period...
This is in regards to the Sonata that we had purchased. I want to start off
This is in regards to the Sonata that we had purchased. I want to start off by stating how extremely upset I am of how the entire experience has been since day one! We were mistreated and screwed due to negligence and lack of communication between dealership and the Hyundai Finance department when processing our loan to be financed. I have never dealt with such miscommunication on a very important investment purchase. I have contacted Hyundai Dealership and Finance center for the whole month of December, January, February and now March via email, phone and mail.I have over and over explained and have provided proof of documents that included harassing statements and letters that we were not qualified and we were required to return the vehicle immediately for the entire month of December and January (totaling a number of 4 letters)! We made numerous attempts to get in contact with assigned Financial Representative who was taking care of our loan and was also instructed per letters received as the main contact person. I have copies of all logged phone calls, emails, letters and conversations that were placed regarding this issue and after all the numerous attempts to have someone help us with Hyundais error created by Hyundai. We never received any management nor representative help ever, except one original email from Kyle ** (assigned financial rep) requesting that we provide additional income statements early in December, for Brandon **.I emailed Kyle and requested further explanation of what was going on regarding our loan funding because we had received letters from him and the agency stating we were declined. And now, here he is requesting additional income? I never ever received a response back from him nor call back or help from management in Hyundai dealership as no one was communicating if we were approved or not. Putting us in a dark room and no communication from anyone, I had requested that HR from our current employers would reach out to Kyle to verify any income information he needed so that the loan would be funded. Shortly after that request, I was informed per Human Resources representative at my company that they provided Kyle with all requested documentation and verified our income upon request. They also stated that they asked for several confirmation requests that verified all documents they had provided met underwriting guidelines for the loan and they never received a confirmation or response as well. In between that time, we received additional letters stating that we were still not qualified and other letters requesting the return of the vehicle immediately. After I realized that we would not get anywhere, holidays were now ruined because of this process and caused tremendous hardship to our family as we were forced to go purchase an additional vehicle after receiving declined letters and no communication Hyundai. After the purchase of the additional vehicle I was forced to buy, the 2013 Hyundai Sonata purchased was currently located in the dealership shopping center body shop after a car accident took place in between the 30-day period the car was in our possession. But is now not in our possession. We lost money in purchasing another vehicle as we were led to believe that we did not qualify. The first statement was sent to us towards the last days of January, it was dated way after the agreed first payment of Jan 5. So I called Hyundai Finance and was told we were qualified after all! I requested to speak to a supervisor as it was explained that the loan was not funded until Jan. 5th (way past the date loan should have been funded). Management had stated that the loan had to be rebooked due to Hyundai submitting loan approval late and incorrect.I then reached out to Hyundai Dealership and was finally contacted by Kyle and told that he and the manager were unable to do anything (which was the complete opposite of what Hyundai finance stated)! I then had stated I wanted my January payment waived per Hyundais error and all the money I have now lost due to this error. I stated I was still willing to keep car and make payments but needed that to be corrected - it was so simple and I was tossed around by Kyle and told they could do anything. I then spoke to management from Hyundai Finance on Feb. 19 and was told by management after I had explained the situation that they were going to make arrangements to amend the loan current and I was told they were going to remove my phone numbers from their system to avoid future collection calls. All my phone numbers were removed except for my work phone which I had told collection rep that they need to look at notes for Feb. 19 and reference. They stated that management never inputted notes. I am fed up by now. All this lying and mistreatment for no reason has now led me to anxiety and stress health issues that have now been noticed by my primary doctor and I was prescribed medical drugs in order to be able to handle the stress this has caused my family and me. I have had to come out of pocket on fees and deductibles for the repairs of 2013 Sonata due to me now being approved for loan, therefore making me responsible. I am not happy and think that there has to be an immediate solution to the inconvenience! Our lawyers suggestion is to return as requested per written notices and void all sales transaction deal per original mailed correspondence.I have proof of all attempts I tried and several people on my end had tried to make this process flow smoothly ... but it seems to have now gotten out of hand due to the irresponsibility and miscommunication within Hyundai company. This has now affected our credit and I am forced to take this to litigation and recover from all costs of damages and stress encountered from this entire process. I am requesting that someone step up to the plate as an associate from Hyundai, if you are reading this, to show some kind of respect for the rights of the consumer. Unfortunately, we live in a world that is so cold-hearted and full of effortless people who like the easier route of not going the extra mile for the customer, when dealing with their day to day job. But who is to forget, that customer could be you a couple of days from now; another company - another service. How would you like to be treated? Will you be that different associate? I say all of this with the hope that someone at Hyundai hears me and my familys plea of financial hardship this all has caused us, including rent being behind- having to degrade myself by sharing my situation on comment online complaint forms and to emails of candidates that have just glanced on my case and tossed to the side. How fair is this? I am a customer that all Ive asked for is a simple January payment to be adjusted due to company error and now I am forced to file litigation suit. Can I please get fair treatment and advice on who can fix all this issue for good and avoid further unnecessary actions?

Had to replace both passenger and driver side axle on my 2011 Hyundai Sonata. This should not have happened. The car is only 5 years old. There must be more out there that have had to replace these. Please send your comments then and notify corporate headquarters Hyundai. Please, in order to get a recall and your money back if you have already replaced these. You can google Hyundai Sonata or Honda corporate headquarters and get a phone number or call a local Hyundai dealer, they will give it to you.

I am leasing a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. My lease is coming up in 4 months... Ive never had an issue with my car and its the second vehicle that I lease from Hyundai. I am writing this because I am not very impressed with the service that I am receiving from the company. Let me start by telling you what happened. A few days ago I was driving down the hwy and my car just stalled. All the lights went on on the dash and the RPMs went to zero. I was lucky that it wasnt a busy hwy and was able to coast and pull over safely along the side of the snowplowed road. I got my car towed to the dealership and they are trying to say that it might be my fault and that I will be responsible for the cost! Its been there 3 days already and They have not told me whats going on. I am without a vehicle and am stressed out waiting to see how much it will cost me for repairs. I do not believe that I should pay for this because I had no warning light come on to tell me that the oil was low or if I had an engine problem. I believe that it is a mechanical problem because there certainly is an alert that appears when the car is low on windshield washer fluid and the same should be for the oil level!! I just want Hyundai to come clean and take responsibility for the engine malfunction!! And to have better customer service by keeping their customers informed!!I will let you all know the outcome.
