Mazda’s are known for their sporty traits, and such has been instilled in the CX-5 compact crossover from the brand. The unique style and attitude of the Mazda CX-5 has won many owners over, and the new 2022 model year brings a few updates starting with all trims now having all-wheel-drive as standard, the front and rear exterior gets minor styling updates, and the suspension system is slightly revised for a sportier feeling that I experienced during my week with the sporty crossover. In its second generation, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 remains a respected contender in a crossover space that has become quite competitive over the past few years. Receiving a more powerful engine for the upper-level trims during the 2020 model year elevated the CX-5’s standing among the competition. The more powerful engine in the revised two top trims, the 2.5 Turbo and 2.5 Turbo Signature, is a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque using premium fuel. If you ever use regular fuel the engine output is decreased to about 227 horsepower. The power is slightly up from previous years of using the top-trim engine adding about 6 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque, which does well for the sporty character of the CX-5. See Also: 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature AWD Review & Test Drive The engine is still mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission but does well with the gearing due to the engine having plentiful power throughout the RPM band. The ample torque of the engine is what I enjoy where there isn’t any noticeable turbo lag out of the hole and the engine carries through each gear with a substantial initial grunt to get the vehicle up to speed. Where the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 may turn some people off is through its latest suspension tuning where it resides more on the sporty size and the dampers and springs are a bit too stiff for my liking even though I enjoy a sporty-riding vehicle. Here, the suspension could have been a bit softer as there is some unwanted body bounciness from the stiff setup that may do well for Mazda brand loyalists but doesn’t move the needle for attracting buyers who want the decent power but not sacrifice overall ride quality. Zero to 60 mph takes place in about 6.1 seconds making the 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo Signature. At times the Mazda CX-5 may feel faster than it really is but there’s still a respected level of performance over most of its direct competition that’s appreciated. Fuel consumption is slightly down from competition, but you have to consider the extra power of the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 2.5 Turbo trims, which you can’t find in any direct competitors. I did notice a consistent fuel mileage easily matching the EPA estimated 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway figures. EPA estimates combined is 24 mpg. To match the sporty attitude of the new CX-5 2.5 Turbo Signature is a sporty interior that has a welcoming premium feel and attention to detail throughout. There’s a decent amount of soft-touch surfaces on the dashboard with an overall near-luxury feel. The accented colors of my test vehicle are also welcomed to fit the sporty theme. The only issue I find in the cabin is that the otherwise simplistic infotainment unit does not have a touchscreen feature but instead leaves you to use the central controller to navigate and control the system. Also, the audio system control sets and features can be a bit cumbersome to use as it sends you through what I think is an unnecessary learning curve. Such an issue could have been easily solved by allowing the screen to be a touchscreen unit, which it has been a few years ago allowing a touchscreen function when the vehicle is stopped. The updated styling, revised suspension, and updated trim levels do well to keep things simple and… sporty – just the way Mazda intended and is well known for in all their vehicles. The pricing of the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 remains competitive but rises a few grand for the top two trims that include the more powerful engine starting at $36,400 for the 2.5 Turbo trim and $38,650 for the 2.5 Turbo Signature trim of my test vehicle.

In 2005 I purchased new Mazda 3, it never gave me any problems. I traded it in for a 2016 Mazda 6. After app. 6 months the vehicle started jerking forward when I moved the car from Park to Drive. I took the car in to be checked and they advised me the transmission had to be replaced. I am somewhat disappointed; however, Im glad it went out prior to the warranty expired.

I purchased my 2008 Mazda Tribute brand new. The first year (8 months after purchase), I noticed a sound in my car. I quickly took it to the dealer I purchased my car from. As soon as I pulled up to the dealership, the mechanic told me that it was a belt and was easy to fix at $150. He informed me that a lot of Tributes had been coming in with this issue, but not a big deal. I had it fixed. There were a few minor issues afterwards. Fast forward 2 years later, my car mysteriously would not start. I would have to catch a cab to work. When I called a mechanic to come out to take a look at my Mazda, it started (what!). This went on for about 6 months. I went on a trip to NY and once again it would not start. The dashboard cluster defaulted; cost to fix was $1000. I took it to a certified dealer and while fixing it, they informed me that I also had a transmission leak which would cost me $1500 to fix. At this time, a recall notice had been mailed and I was unaware of this issue. I needed my car being a single mother of 3; I had no choice. Fast forward to present day, 2013, about a week ago, my car started making loud noises. I took it back to the dealer I purchased my car from. Guess what! My transmission has to be replaced cost $3600 (really!) and I had to pay $100 for them to tell me that. Unfortunately, I was one of the millions hit with layoffs; no income. I called Mazda corporate and informed them that I was not aware of the recall notice sent out in 2011. The customer service rep informed me that there wasnt a recall and that I was misinformed. I informed her that I got the information off their website and from the dealership. She was not empathetic to my situation. I understand that my warranty expired. However, I feel that a recall should never expire. If you are aware that a defected part has been placed in your product, you have a responsibility to replace. I paid $17,000 for my car. With all the service issues, Im close to $7000 in repairs and towing fees - almost half the cost of the car. This is not fair to me and others, who work hard all our lives, especially when my car only has 75,000 miles and Im the only owner and now when money is nonexistent to me. Please do not purchase a Mazda. It’s a money pit.

The Mazda CX 5 is a great looking SUV. The after sales service sucks. I have determined that the Electronic Park Brake is a design flaw. This must be the only front wheel drive vehicle that wears out its rear brake pads and tyres before the front. Mazda with TSB 004-05/15 replaces the brake calipers when the actual problem is the sensor which controls the EPB. Like a person who hates constructive critique. I am not surprised that they are suffering in the market.

The 05 Mazda 6 Mazda transmission valve body failed at 28000 miles. Mazda knew about the problem back in 2006 and have not informed the owners so the part can be replaced under warranty. Now, they rejected a request for help; and the local dealer, Colonial Mazda, wanted $1400 for the parts and $400 to install it. I was able to get the part from another Mazda dealer at $1000 by mail. Now, Colonial Mazda refuse to install the part. What a joke - a bad design followed by bad service and a company that does not stand behind their products. In addition, they think people are stupid to pay 40% more on a part that Mazda should be responsible to replace.

Just passed 24000km on the odometer and the brand new 2016 CX3 I bought a year ago has a complete transmission failure. I had to bring it into the dealership (Stoney Trail Mazda) in Calgary AB Canada for a period of 4 weeks. They had to replace the complete transmission which took 2 weeks and after the replacement there was still noises coming from the vehicle, they took another two weeks to find out what was wrong and was complete clueless. They told me they did further work by replacing the flywheel and a number of other parts. The dealership is making an effort and did fix everything without further cost to me and did provide a rental vehicle which I appreciate greatly. However, I completely lost confidence in Mazda as a company. Ive been a long time Mazda owner and the fact that the dealership is not stepping up to replace a clearly lemon/defective vehicle is really upsetting. This will be the last Mazda I will ever own. Stay away from the Mazda CX3!!!

First off these cars are priced well, very affordable. Bought a 2013 Mazda 5 van as my 1st new car. It got great gas mileage 22mpg city and 31 on highway. The 5 looked sporty and slick with pearl white paint. I was very gentle on the car to break in the drivetrain; I would start it and let it warm up for ~30secs. But after the 1st oil change at 2900 miles at the dealer of course the engine would shutter upon start. When putting the car in reverse the engine would rev up to 3000rpms without any input. When trying to pass on freeway the check engine light would appear. When the wife bumped a neighborhood street curb the van would drift to the right. Took it to the dealer and service manager was disrespectful and defensive. He literally pointed his finger at me and accused me of street racing!? Really guy in a van. He said the check engine light was due to WOT passes. Yeah right, tell me the code on scanner. No sir you would not understand. I informed him that I was a certified ASE tech and been working on cars for over 15 years. He later told me only techs he had specialized in Mazda. Now that I have brought in the van this early in ownership I could imagine the problems down the road. I dont know the driving routine in Japan but this brand is as fragile as an old Jaguar. So I traded it in for an Explorer and 0 problems yet.

I have had to replace my brakes and rotors twice on my 2009 Mazda 6. The first time I replaced the brakes and rotors, the car had 23,180 miles. Mazda did not admit fault, but basically covered this up by good willing my rotors and only charging me an inflated price for the brake pads and rotors. I had to replace the brakes and rotors a second time at 68,012 miles (36,975 miles after the first time). I filed a formal complaint through Mazdas corporate headquarters and got nowhere. They say its normal. The mechanic who just replaced my brakes and rotors for the second time and has 20 years of experience completely disagrees. I have a string of emails between Mazdas corporate rep and myself that I can provide. Mazda is completely unwilling to do anything and refused to even pass my case along to a supervisor. I am concerned that I will have to continue to absorb the cost for a product defect that Mazda is not willing to admit it happening. I would like to pursue legal action.

I bought a brand new 2012 Sky Active. It has been in the shop 3 times to correct a drift to the left. Mazda is pooh-poohing the issue and blowing me off. They say the car is fine and up to specs. My friends have driven it and agree with me. I have read many blogs on the same car and the same issue. The car is a liability and this treatment is unethical. I purchased a 2017 Mazda 6 Sport at Fremont Mazda. So far I absolutely love my car. My salesman was great in having everything ready when I came in to sign I because I had to get back to work by a certain time. My problem is with Mazdas finance department. A little background. The last time I purchased a new car from a dealership was 30 years ago. It was very simple. I was offered upgrades. I declined. No problem. This time around when I got home I Sat and looked over my contract and saw optional service contracts below was Mazda Maintenance $2,150.00. I recall the finance person mentioning oh and you have 5 years free maintenance at any Mazda Service Center in California. My thought is oh that must be the manufactures warranty.I contacted my salesman and Im told its for a optional service contract. I was never offered this optional item, no one said to me we can add this free maintenance service to your purchase for an extra $2,150.00. I was furious. My salesman contacted me. Said if I didnt want it they would remove it and write up a new contract. I went back to the dealership. Signed a new contract. My car payment is now $50.00 a month cheaper. That should have been the end of it but lo & behold I find another optional on my contract in the amount of $795.00 for Debt Cancellation Option Agreement which I googled and is GAP insurance which again I was not asked if I wanted this insurance added to my contract.Oh on the first issue I filed a complaint with the State Attorney Generals Office Consumer Complaints. Today Im waiting for The State Insurances Commissioners Office to call me back and advise me what I should. My real concern with all this is how many other people have been victims of the same and dont know where to ask for help or arent even aware optional items have been added to their contract without their consent!

Mazda CX-7 2011: In June of 2014 I lost my first turbo, at 54,000 miles. After having the turbo replace it turned out that my fuel pump was also bad, had that replaced. In July of 2015 a weird noise began coming from the area of my turbo. Brought it to the Mazda dealership and was told it was probably a wrist pin. Brought my car to another dealership and it turned out a few bolts between the turbo and manifold had broke and the gap was causing the whistling noise. Had to pay for bolt replacement out of pocket (over $1000 because they also insisted on replacing the seals on the turbo). November of 2015 my second Turbo went. I was over the Warrantied mileage and warranty was denied. The turbo warranty from previous installation had also expired after 12 months. Replaced turbo at my own expense. January of 2016 the car flashed a check engine and oil light. Pulled over and immediately shut the car down. After having the car towed to a repair place it was discovered that the crankshaft bearing had gone bad and destroyed the motor. I basically have a worthless car with only 67 thousand miles on it.

My experience with Mazda overall meaning corporate and the dealership has been horrendous. I think we should all get together and file a class action lawsuit. Mazda is making cars with defects. The dealer did a spot delivery spot scam on me. My car has been having all sorts of issue with the brakes not working properly and just recently the transmission. I have had it. Corporate does nothing. The VP Shawn Murphy is interested in money. Do not buy a Mazda unless you have it checked out first.

I purchased my 2013 Mazda 2 from Daytona Mazda Mitsubishi back in November of 2015. I registered the vehicle with Mazda USA online since I live in Tennessee and the car was delivered to me by the dealership. I have been having significant issues with the steering and saw that there was a recall sent out by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration back in 2016. I have sent the dealership and Mazda several emails over two years. They have chosen to ignore.

When we were shopping for a new vehicle we wanted something that could carry six or more passengers. We had purchased a used car for our daughter from a local dealer. It was a good car that we were all happy with. We went in in August and the salesman just got in the new CX9 signature edition (2016). It was a great looking SUV with great technology and a fine trim level that included leather and wood trim. Complete the deal was 45,800 out the door. Considering the trim level and options that was a fair price. After one year we made the choice to lower our payments and down size to a less expensive car. The CX9 with 10,500 miles. The Trade in value of 31000 dollars. A loss of 33% of the value in one year. Stay away from any Mazda. Any car that loses that much value in one year should be taken off the market. I will never buy another Mazda in my lifetime.

I drive a Ford Escape Hybrid for over six years with no mechanical problems and great gas mileage.

I have previously owned 2 Mazdas. The last Mazda 6 was totaled in accident. As I recovered, I began to decide on a replacement vehicle. I was drawn to Mazda. The new 6s do not have the same sporty look as my previous 6, so I considered other styles. As we were test driving several vehicles, including a 3, the salesman pointed us to a cx-7 under the dealership awning. He pointed out the incredible deal due to the enormous vinyl windshield cover at $21,999.00. We test drove the 7 and decided on this vehicle. The salesman had us consider owning this vehicle versus another 7 with lesser options for similar retail. Inside, another man entered the cubicle to inform us that the windshield cover had been put on the wrong vehicle. I am familiar with signing and obligation, so relevance here is the constant. The vehicle was not just on the lot, but in a hot spot under the awning and according to the conversation, had been signed wrong since at least the previous day.I did not purchase a vehicle from the dealership that day or since then and have been deliberating on the most respectful way to handle this situation. I look forward to action to rectify this unusual situation.Cordially,Lucy

This vehicle has been very dependable with no major repairs needed. Ive been a bit disappointed as to the fuel economy. The model I purchased was a 4-cylinder. Ive only been getting around 25 mpg on the highway, not as fuel efficient as other 4-cylinder pickups Ive owned in the past. The interior is a bit cramped, but then again, it is a small pickup. Overall, Ive been happy with it. I may opt for a 6-cylinder pickup next time around which will be a bit more powerful than a 4-cylinder and still economical to drive.

My 2001 Mazda Millenia broke my heart and my bank. I bought it from Duncan Auto in Key West. It was lovely and it still is, but the engine is useless. The hold light went on and the transmission began to burn. When I called Duncan, the dealer where I had purchased, they said that their mechanics wouldnt touch it. I tried some more local mechanics who had their way with the car and charged me heavy but still the problem persisted. The car could not be driven over 25 mph and I couldnt go anywhere without the transmission burning up. Finally, at my expense, I had it towed to a Mazda dealer in Miami. They said that it needed a new transmission at a cost of $6000.00. The car cost me most of my savings ($17,000.00) which was a lot of money for me and was the first nice thing I ever bought myself and it lasted only two years. This cleaned me out and I cant afford another car at this time. The car still sits in front of my house and forever a painful reminder. Do your research people and buyer beware. Bought a used Mazda CX-7 July 2016. July 2017 the left front control arm broke while driving down the road. Had my mechanic make the repairs to the car. Sept 2017 I get notice that there is a recall on the issue that occurred. Had the car to Mazda dealer August 2018 and repairs were made as per the recall but now Mazda USA does not want to reimburse me for the repairs made by my mechanic in July 2017 since it was done after the August 10, 2016 date of the recall which I knew nothing about till Sept 2017 when I got the first notice of the recall. Finally got them to look at the info but now they are using the fact that I dont have a bank statement from July 2017 showing the repairs were paid with my Visa when the slip from the garage is clearly marked paid Visa. Big company just looking for any possible loophole to get out of owning up to their mistakes.

I bought a car here 6 months ago. I had some bad experience but my wife insisted on buying something, so I did. Paperwork included many extra charges. They sold a prepaid maintenance plan - charged us for premium plan but paperwork said basic plan. Took me a while to get the errors corrected. Recently my car had a recall. Called the dealer. Literally, the conversation with dimitry went like this:I: I heard there is a Mazda recall. Dmitry: Yea, dont worry, we will call you. I: this sounds bad. Whats the issue? Dmitry: hey, no one died. So dont worry. I: are you sure? You sound so casual about it. Dmitry: are you looking for a free loaner or some free things? I: what? You sound bad. Is there a manager I can talk to. Dmitry: this is as good as it gets. What else can I do for you.WOW! Called the manager later on. Sal. He was no better either. This dealership has NASTY scammers masquerading as salespeople and service folks. Try calling the service dept to talk to a service specialist. You will NOT be able to reach anyone, no matter how many times you try. I regret buying Mazda and especially from this dealer. I will not go back to this dealer.

I purchased my used 2006 Mazda in 2007. Since that time, Ive had the vehicle aligned four times, the front struts and bushings replaced, and Ive purchased 12 tires...two of which were for blow-outs due to inner tire wall wear. Each time Ive replaced tires, its been due to inner wall wear. Now, Im again faced with the need for new tires all the way around once again, but also rear suspension shocks. And I also need to replace the front struts/shocks once again. Ive maintained my vehicle and tires appropriately. I do not use my car but on city roadways and highways. No potholes or dirt roads, etc.; per car fax, this vehicle has no history of any damage whatsoever. After reading multiple websites, as well as the NHTSA concerning these very same issues with the Mazda 5 models from 06 to 10...I contacted Mazda USA. They were of no help. I requested the changes that were made to the Mazda 5s that resolved these issues and was flat-out denied this information, and when asked why they couldnt provide, they continually ignored my requests for an explanation as to why they were withholding the updates and changes. They also stated they would be of no assistance to resolving this major safety issue. Im shocked as to why they would withhold information to a Mazda 5 owner who carts around her family daily. I want to know how to properly correct this very dangerous issue, but was denied this information after multiple attempts to obtain it. With the amount of complaints concerning the very same issues with this particular vehicle...something needs to be done to ensure the safety of the families who ride in these cars daily with the potential risk of tire failure. Since its the inner wall wearing, operators cannot see the damage; they only see the outer tire, which shows minimal wear... Its very serious and very dangerous...

As a Mazda customer and owner, I feel like I am being treated unjustly in regards to the recent Special Service Program warranty extension for the Mazdaspeed 6. Additionally, I had the most inexcusable and appalling experience at one of your Mazda Dealership locations.Special Service Warranty: This January, Mazda released a Special Service Program to extend the warranty coverage for the specific repair of the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) noise and/or timing chain noise concern for my vehicle. However, the warranty coverage for the specific repair is extended to 7 years from the original warranty start date or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first. The letter was broadly dated January 2012. A customer service representative named Jason informed me that the letters were sent out 1/13/2011. However, I did not receive the letter until 1/21/12, and my mileage is now 72,800.The Special Service Program letter was not received until Saturday 1/21/12. In November of 2011 is when I first started hearing the rattling/ticking noise. In your letter you describe the problem as a loud ticking noise may be exhibited from the VVT when the engine is first started at cold condition After the engine warms up, some vehicles may exhibit a knocking/rattling type noise from the front timing cover and/or valve cover at engine speeds below 2,000 rpm, due to excessive stretching of the timing chain. Following is a warning that the warranty extension does not apply if the problem is caused by poor vehicle maintenance. However, I can assure you that I have kept up to date with oil changes (using the correct weight oil), I keep a maintenance log, purchase everything from the same pep boys, and am willing to provide proof of receipts if necessary.Since November, I have been trying to explain and pin point this issue to a family friend who happens to be my mechanic. If you were to repeat the above quote to any mechanic, 100% of them would say, I need to hear the noise first. Being that you do not hear the noise 100% of the time, it has been extremely difficult to identify the repair with my mechanic until this letter came, which clearly states the root of the problem. Back in November, the car was under the 70,000-mileage limit; in fact I was still under the limit though most of December. However, I drive about 90 miles a day during my commute to and from work. By the time the letter was received, and I was finally aware of the actual problem, I happened to be 2,800 miles over the limit. After some calculations based on driving 90 miles a day, I would have first breached the 70,000 mile limit 31 days ago, or roughly around December 20. According to Jason, one of your customer service representatives, he informed me these letters were sent out on January 13, 2012. If the letters were sent out just four weeks prior then I would have been under the 70,000-mile limit. I can understand if Mazda were to deny the warranty extension for drivers with say 90,000 miles at the time of the letter. But to deny Mazda owners who are over the limit by a mere few weeks is absolutely arbitrary and uncalled for.To recognize the problem at hand and issue a Special Service Program is a start but I urge you to look at the 70,000-mile limit as a gray line, and not such a black and white one. This will help instill faith back into Mazda Owners such as myself. Please be open to understand and accept extenuating circumstances. Thousands of Americans file wrongful lawsuits everyday out of greed. My only wish is to have Mazda bear the costs of the repair. I know I am not the only Mazdaspeed6 owner in this situation and I hope others will be as persistent as me to have their opinions on the matter heard. I have a file # on record for VIN# JM1GG12L171110311 if you wish to view at your convenience.

In a nutshell - 2002 Mazda Tribute, bought second hand. Transmission done by first owner, then we had to do it. Drove fine with only the infamous Mazda transmission complaint. Then one night in 2010, at midnight, we notice flames outside our second floor window. Jump out of bed and yell the car is on fire in the driveway, next to the house. Right next to the house. Fire dept. is called but takes a bit to respond. My then teenage son grabs a hose and attempts to keep the fire at bay until they arrive. Dark soot over everything, including the inside of the house. The last time I had driven the car was at 7:00 that evening less than a mile both ways. It was like spontaneous combustion. The next morning, we immediately called to have the eye sore of a car removed. Besides the filth that was all over the driveway and being tracked into the house, as well as the nauseating, charcoal, fire smell that permeated the air, the burnt out car looked entirely out of place in our neighborhood. It made us look like derelicts! It was like who have you irritated lately. We had no insurance except compulsory. Fire dept. wrote a report but came to no conclusion as to the cause. We were left wondering why? End of story? Think not! Beginning of 2012, we began to receive recall letters from Mazda, and we just threw them out until June 2012 when we decided to read one. Well, were we surprised! The bottom line was that if the recall(s) were not completed, the car could and would go on fire. Here is their disclaimer at the bottom of the letter (seriously): Mazda strongly recommends parking your vehicle as far away from your home as possible until you get recalls done because it may go on fire. Great, now they tell us. Before Mazda accepted responsibility for their little secret(s), they jeopardized our home, our other car, our family, and our life by negligently allowing the Mazda Tribute to remain in our driveway, next to the house. Not to mention the fact we were using the car everyday! Are you kidding me? Mazda asked to please take the car to the dealer for recall updates. After a couple of these letters I called the number indicated in the letter and recounted our story. Yes, wed love to bring our car in for these recalls except two years ago, when you apparently were still in denial, that car burnt up and nearly took our home and us with it. What do we do now? They(?) listened sympathetically and recommended, as well as provided the number for Mazda in Modesto, Ca, their mediation dept. My husband called and they told us to gather fire report and anything else we had to evidence the fire of the 2002 Mazda Tribute. My husband sent everything certified mail and as we didnt hear back, we called this assigned mediator. Well he really needed pictures of the burnt vehicle. How do I know that you didnt set it on fire? Okay genius, it makes a lot of sense to set a car on fire with no insurance less than fifteen feet from your home. The car purposely was removed expediently due to environmentally caustic conditions and the fact we were now down a car as we had no money to replace it, and who needed to see the skeleton reminder, let alone take a picture. Like salt in a wound. Final word from Mazda mitigation representative (they obviously think (and get away with it) that it is acceptable to investigate yourself). Surprise - no can do. Not enough proof! Well, the fat lady isnt singing yet. We will continue our quest for parity from Mazda of North America. All attorneys are welcome to apply. (To see what happened to some poor families as they watched their homes burn down and their family pet(s) perish, Google Mazda cars that go on fire.)

I purchased a 2015 Mazda CX7 from Looms Ford in Fredericksburg Virginia June of 2015. At the time of purchase the vehicle had 37K. Looms Ford knew that the battery was going, told me when theres a problem, contact us. When the car wouldnt start about 6 weeks later, I called and they informed me, not their problem. The battery blew up under the hood, had it towed, mechanic said he never seen anything like it. Thats the first problem. Car made a whistle noise, come to find out its the turbo. Mind you this car has only 64K miles on it.Called Mazda, told them the turbo had failed. They want records of all maintenance. I can give them records of battery situation because the car was towed. But when it comes to changing oil or filters, I am quite capable. Now they wont fix turbo because I chose to change my own oil instead of paying someone else to do it. Mazda us nothing but a letdown. I wouldnt recommend a Mazda vehicle to my worst enemy. I will NEVER buy another Mazda.

I love my car. Living in Michigan, I needed a vehicle that handled well in snow but also with good gas mileage and being able to adjust the drivers seat is very important. After test driving several models, I was extremely impressed with Mazdas handling. I also love how the looks of the car. Its very stylish and its fun to drive. Definitely spend the extra money and get the navigation. I use it all the time. But I wish the rear seats were more comfortable. When test driving cars, I never thought to sit in the back. A word of advice, next time test driving, sit in the back and feel how your passengers are feeling.

2006 Mazda 3 - I had increasing problems with oil burning. I first noticed the problem when my car was still under warranty and mentioned it to the mechanic who said it was normal. My car slowly using more & more oil. I would check it weekly, at 8 years old and 138000 km putting in 1 liter of oil every 7-10 days. Last week had complete engine failure. Told I need a new engine. I think that is crazy for a car of this age, with this mileage that I have been very conscientious re: maintenance, oil changes, etc. Mazda no help at all. Since this has happened just through conversation in the past 5 days, I have learned of 2 other people with the same issue. This should be a recall issue. I had the same problem with my the locks (being kicked in to access car), Mazda was very little help. Finally paid for updated door locks but would not pay for damage done to my door.

I went to start my RX8 and it would not start. I called AAA to have it jumped, thinking it was a battery problem. The AAA employee sent to jump the car could not jump it and I had to tow it to my mechanic the next day. My personal mechanic looked at it and said it was a specific problem with the engine that was covered by an extended warranty Mazda issued, because the 2005 RX8s had so many complaints about this particular problem. Instead of doing a recall, Mazda does extended warranties. They did the same thing with the clutch pedal bracket, which I had to jump through hoops to get the dealership to take care of it at no cost to me. They always want to charge, even when it is something covered by a warranty. So my husband had the car towed to the nearby dealership. Automatically, they told us we have to replace the battery because they need to do a diagnostic test to find out the problem. Battery is $185 with labor and $150 for a diagnostic test. Then we were told that only if they are able to prove that it was a specific problem covered in the warranty that Mazda would cover it under the warranty. If they find it is not that specific part, we will have to pay out of pocket. I was told by my personal mechanic it was that particular issue which is covered by the warranty, but of course, Mazda wants to do their own tests. My car has less than 50,000 miles on it and it is ridiculous that I would have to replace the engine for $4,000, when a quick online search shows that this is a very common problem with this specific car. I think Mazda should have their feet held to the fire and do right by their customer. I seriously think someone should do a class action lawsuit to get this company to wake up and start treating customers fairly.

Engine Failure. My wifes car that we both really enjoyed until recently. I did a lot of research on this vehicle before we purchased it and the price was excellent with the Tech option. All was ok until a few weeks ago. Started noticing the smell of burnt oil in the cabin when we were stopped at an intersection. Came home, looked under the vehicle and didnt notice anything. This continued on each time we used it (we carpool so it doesnt get driven daily) and then eventually I noticed oil spots on our driveway. Thought it may be either dripping from the filter or the bolt so I decided to do an oil change which I noticed that there was an excessive amount of oil present on the underside of the chassis and also in the plastic shroud that must be removed to access the oil pan and filter. The bolt and filter were on tight so the oil was coming from another location.Drove the vehicle into work the following day and again the smell of burning oil (like oil that would get onto the exhaust) was present when the vehicle was running but at a stop. Parked in a spot where there were no oil spots and I went into work. Roughly 3 hours later I had a look at the vehicle and noticed a 5 round oil spot under the vehicle. Contacted the Mazda dealership and drove it in for an appointment that afternoon. They had the vehicle for 2 hours and I came there after work to check up on what they found. First words out of the technician were we ordered you a new engine as this one has a porous block. Not sure if the block was porous or cracked as one would think that after 31000kms it would have been evident sooner.Regardless, the dealership provided a replacement vehicle (Mazda 3) and have indicated that this will be repaired once they receive a new engine as they were on back order. Dealership also indicated that this is not the first 2.5L with this issue found on a 2018 CX5. Ive owned over 30 vehicles so far and this is the first time Ive had this type of failure. Needless to say, Im not too happy with the reliability demonstrated by a Japanese built vehicle.

On May 21, 2013, I bought a new Mazda 6 Sedan - full optional, including the Red Soul extra paint. Just few miles away, I noticed 3 spots on the front hood. The paint is extremely thin and it is difficult to see the clear coat with a magnifier lens. I brought the car to the dealer and they said it is normal to get spots because of road sand. I washed the car and one more spot appeared. Because of my firm complaints, I was able to get an appointment with an inspector from Mazda and now Im waiting to see him. Paint quality is unacceptably cheap for that car standard. Should I expect the car surface to be pitting away day by day?

I would like to know why I got rust spot on the side trim of the door on the back by the window between the back and front door of my 2004 Mazda3. I had it on both sides of my back doors. First off, the Mazda Tribute is not a Mazda, its a Ford!!! Second, nobody will warranty a clutch because well most of you dont know how to drive a standard properly and will just ride them. Ive put 2 clutches in a person’s car because they ride it and dont know how to shift. Third, any turbo engine sucks, no matter who makes it, they all have problems. Fourth, up until 2014, the Mazda 6 was not a real Mazda, once again, built by Ford. Fifth, the recall for the Tribute for the throttle sticking was only on a V6 motor because of the engine cover laying too low from a valve cover stud and causing the cruise control cable to stick under rapid acceleration. Sixth, most of you with bad motors, youre not really doing your oil changes on time, so shut up. Seventh, mismatched or differently worn tires can/will cause damage to transfer cases, transmissions, and rear differentials. Eighth, cars rust especially if you live in an area where salt is used all winter. Ninth, your personal mechanic buddy probably cant describe the difference between 4WD and AWD, he doesnt know everything, he just wants to seem like the good guy so he gets your business. And tenth, if you have a RX8, its not a race car, rev it up before you shut it off to avoid flooding, and DONT MODIFY IT. Hope this sums up all your complaints easy because I got sick of trying to help people with ideas of what may be wrong.

I purchased a 2008 Mazda CX7 Grand Touring turbo in 2011 at 32K from CarMax. I was very happy with the vehicle and maintained it appropriately with oil changes etc. I am now at 78k Dec. 2014 and without warning the car started to make a loud noise and would not accelerate over 40 miles. I called CarMax about my extended warranty and was told it expired at 75K and I was at 78K. The car was taken to a reputable mechanic and when he pulled the engine down there was a massive amount of sludge on the engine resulting in cylinder head, timing belt, transmission damage. It appeared the car wasnt maintained. The engine has poor circulation of oil and although I just had an oil change 2 weeks prior to this incident it looked as if there wasnt any oil in the engine. It is irreparable. I still owe $9,000.00 on the vehicle and cant drive it. I just had hip replacement surgery and I have a disabled brother. We both depend on this vehicle and I am caught in a bad situation. It appears Mazda is aware of this problem per the complaints logged on the NHTSA website for the same make and model indicating engine problems and Mazda ignoring this issue. If I give back the car I still owe money!!! I cant afford to pay for a car and have to get one also. Buyers beware of buying a Mazda!! There is a hidden problem the company knows about and will not make good on something that they know is wrong to consumers.

I contacted Mazda Corp and explained that I had no way to indicate that I have had all the oil changes done due to the fact that my husband changes our oil on all our cars. They said to me that I have no recourse and there are no loopholes for my situation. They will not honor the situation.I am extremely disappointed in the service and the behavior of Mazda Corp. I have recently learned that others have experienced this same problem. Even though Mazda knew that there was a problem and thereby sent the notice in the first place, they are still unwilling to fix the problem or take care of the monetary damages. NEVER BUY MAZDA. Auto friend, I need your help and your expertise are greatly appreciated. I have a 2016 Mazda CX9. I am fed up with MAZDA. I began having issues with my car prior to the powertrain warranty going out at 60,000 miles. My car began to idle very badly as if I had bad gas. The dealership suggested that I put in the fuel injection cleaner which I did. No resolution. I wasted money by advice of Dolan Mazda and paid out-of-pocket for new spark plugs for my vehicle. The issue was not resolved. Dolan then stated that the fuel pump went out which was the reason why my engine was full of gas and the car lost power. The fuel pump was replaced and the issue was not resolved. My car was transported to California because Mazda Reno does NOT have certified Mazda techs. My injectors and fuel injection system was updated in California yet The issue was not resolved. My car lost power again and I returned it to Reno. They stated that the throttle body went out which would cost $650. They replaced the throttle body. The issue Is still not resolved. I clearly have a lemon. Now they are telling me that they have to call the tech line because they have no clue why my vehicle will not run. Now they’re telling me there could be another issue as a result of the fuel pump going out and messing up the fuel injection. They said it was a domino effect that affected other issues on the car which is going be very expensive to repair. I have been without my car going on two months now and I’ve been going back-and-forth to the dealerships as my car was at 50,000 miles. The first time that Dolan MAZDA took possession of my car, they put 63 miles on the car test driving it. When I receive my car back from California, an additional 372 miles was put on my car. This is ridiculous!! This car again is clearly a lemon and they cannot figure out what’s wrong with my car. Now MAZDA is saying since I am now out of warranty, I must pay for repairs. I was in warranty the first 3 times they attempted to fix my car.

My wife and I were in the market for a vehicle the summer of 2011. We had a check from our institution in the back pocket so we went searching. Our search starts with the Toyota Venza (new), and the Infiniti Q35 (pre-owned). We visited approximately 5 dealerships the weekend previous to July 4th, 2011 - a lot of test drives, a lot of negotiations which were close, but not as satisfactory. After not moving the needle as much as we had desired, my wife has an idea to check out the dealership of Mazda in Huntington Beach. We look at the Cx7 & Cx9 (new) and after test driving a few, she decides to look into the Cx7 as she was previously unfamiliar with the vehicle. After mulling options over (blank check was good for up to 40k in financing, 4.1 APR) she decides to purchase the Mazda (24,900). We select a model, which has 13 miles on it - and though others (Venza, Infinity) were her chief desire, she believes that the decision was a good, more economical one. We (she) purchases the vehicle July 4th, 2011.One month in, the front driver tire blows out on the 55 freeway in Costa Mesa. The car is driven to the dealer the next day - to have a tire placed on. The price was surely surprise surprise - $250.00. We push to know why the tire was so expensive, its because the size is new for this size vehicle and theres one maker of the tire. Bridgestone. We pay for it begrudgingly, and go about our way.Fast forward to February 6th, 2015, a shade over 3 years, 6 months of owning the vehicle. The vehicle history is good, maintenance is excellent (my wife is a therapist for children with autism so thats why vehicle choice was extremely important - traveling client to client in administering therapy sessions) and without warning, she cannot reverse. She can drive forward, yet is losing power when the automatic attempts to shift from 1st to 2nd gear, so it jumps from first to 3rd.We take the vehicle to Browning Mazda in Cerritos and we are advised that the transmission needs to be replaced (3,200). 3 years 6 months 64,262 miles, excellent maintenance history, & this vehicle needs a NEW transmission? This felt like a terrible joke. The power train warranty? 3y/60k. Expired just over 4,000 miles ago. If theres an engine issue, we usually receive a warning (ie - check engine light flashes on when the oil hits around 3,500) - yet for a failed transmission the vehicle took a dump without warning. We contact Mazda (corporate) & are advised later in the day that they would pay half of the ticketed amount. Thats still egregious as there wouldnt be a vehicle sold if most buyers knew that at such ridiculous low mileage, the transmission would fail them. We retrieve the vehicle and have it looked at for two more opinions and apparently there are no codes indicating the transmission is bad, not to mention the fact the transmission itself is indicating itself being bad simply by the test drive. One transmission mechanic wanted to advise us that Mazda contains many Ford parts, including the transmission and the parts itself. He opens a book, shows a Ford Escape transmission cover (as an example to start) & shows the transmission cover for a Mazda Cx7. Same shape. Same size. Same diameter. The only difference was the material each was made out of. He also advised us that Ford held a controlling stake in Mazda for a very long time and that Mazda in engine make up is similar to many Ford vehicles.Im thankful for such insight as now, my wife, shes back to square one. We will just take it on the chin, pay the dealer, trade it in and get into the vehicle she wanted to originally (Toyota Venza) as it has a powertrain of 7y/100k, and we have another blank check and a few we are willing to pay more of a premium for now as opposed to settling (which appears now, that we did).My advice, if you could help it remain in a Toyota (I drive a Lexus and plan to remain with Toyota) or Honda (my wife bought a Civic new in 2001, drove it to 2011 without issue, netting 170k miles before selling to a UCI college student, then purchasing this Mazda vehicle). If my story helps you even a little bit, I am definitely thankful. This experience feels completely underhanded and we feel hoodwinked.

We are a non-profit agency that owns a 2000 Mazda minivan to transport clients. A driver lost the key to the van, our only key. The van was running fine and we have found this to be a very reliable vehicle. Because the key must be programmed to the ignition, the van had to be towed to the dealer. Several keys were ordered, but we were told they were defective. Finally, a good key was reprogrammed, but the van wouldnt start. So, we were told we needed an immobilizer unit. More delay and now the bill had risen to $1,100. Once the immobilizer unit was installed, the van still wouldnt start and we were told we needed an instrument cluster. Another $1,400. That was a month ago. A defective part was sent from Mazda, followed by the wrong part. We still dont have our van and the dealer doesnt have the replacement part. It has been two months. I have called Mazda customer assistance twice. No help. The situation is completely unacceptable and yet we feel unable to do anything to rectify it. What if the dealer has incorrectly diagnosed the problem? We have no way to know until the instrument cluster finally arrives (we hope) and is installed. If this really is the fault of Mazda Corporate and their supply chain for parts, something needs to be fixed. Im wondering if others have had this kind of experience.

Love my SUV Mazda CX7. Its so comfortable. Have much space for family members and its a good vehicle to travel and have a big back space for stuff, groceries, shopping items. The interiors are very durable material and easy to clean. And easy repair and to drive so safely and secured part. I recommended so much for all type of family. Its very pretty design so I would like to buy a new one next year. But I would like maybe a more bigger back in a new model but at all its fine other parts. Quality and strong parts. All the model is ok.

Mazda Toolbox has a sole purpose to update the Navigation Map. The implementation is worst ive seen, an intern would not dare to present me such an implementation: 1. Everything takes it 20sec! 20sec to check the card, 20sec to fetch its version, 20sec to check the cloud version. Are they totally disconnected from modern applications? Do they know that google react to keystrokes as we type them?? 2. They could also show the current version and expected date of the new version to save the pain of using this application in the first place.3. They could send emails informing of a new release (they maintain accounts on the cloud with our emails). And yes you guessed it right to go to the cloud account and check something it is another 10 or 20 minutes per cloud interaction!

I bought a 2006 Mazda speed 6 in October of 2006. The car was in the shop more than out. In August 2010, I took it to two dealerships for white exhaust smoke. They stated that it had to do with the turbo and the motor was shot. They would not cover it under warranty. I could not afford to fix the car as it would cost over $5000. I gave the car back to the bank even though I loved that car. Two days ago, I get a letter from Mazda saying that they are now covering this repair under the warranty. I was so mad that I gave up my car and now they are covering it. If they would have covered it back when I first brought it in, I would still have that car!

I like that its strong, reliable, and has decent mileage. Its a great color, charcoal grey. I feel sexy driving this car. I feel like the brakes are completely reliable as well. They do not treat customers very well. Their cars are substandard and when I try to get my car fixed, even more mechanical problems arise. Coincidence? I had to bring in my car twice for the same issue only to go to a third-party to have it fixed properly. Having said that even more mechanical issues have arisen. When I talk to them they are very condescending and rude. It was shocking at first but after a few times of trying to reason of them I discovered that they do not care about the customer. I recommend not buying a Mazda or dealing with any of them or their associates.

Recently I purchased a 2015 Mazda MX-5, color zeal red. Damn what a beautiful car!!! I saw the car for the first time about a month ago, and test drove it. On the test drive the car accelerated on its own as I rounded the corner to enter the freeway. The salesperson sitting in the passenger seat said, Whats happening? Heck if I knew. As I depressed the break pedal the car accelerated. This happened a couple to a few times within about ten seconds as I would let up on the break and then apply the break again. Finally the car was back in control. The salesperson wanted to take over the driving so I let him. No problems the short distance back to the dealership. The salesperson said the car acted weird because I was most likely me getting confused in which pedal to use test driving the car. I purchased the car. I know what youre thinking. That I was pretty stupid for buying the car based on the test drive experience. Okay, I agree. The car has about 170 miles on it and this rapid acceleration on its own has happened a total of six times. I scheduled to take the car into University Mazda (This is where I purchased the car) on Nov. 25, 2014 to see if they could figure out why the car was accelerating on its own. On my way to the dealership the car dramatically accelerated on its own as I was breaking to avoid hitting the car in front of me. In order to slow the car down I shifted into neutral. The dealership had the car for one day and their guess as why the car is accelerating on its own is because I have the drivers seat too close to the steering wheel, and that Im getting confused in what Im doing with my right foot as Im driving. Hows that for high tech diagnoses? Forget the fact that I own a truck and Prius, and have had about eighteen cars in my life time. Ive never had this same problem with rapid acceleration with any of my other cars or truck. Look, I may have been stupid to buy the car in the first place, but Im sure not going to be even more stupid to buy some cheap dime store reasoning by the dealership for why the car is accelerating on its own.

I bought my 2010 Mazda CX-9 Touring AW Drive new. Around 17,000 miles the car started making popping noises at take off and when reversing. We took it to our authorized dealer. They called and said they didnt hear anything, after driving it several times. Drove the car some more and sound got worse. Took it back in and they told me it was my brakes. They changed a cylinder in the brakes but the technician couldnt get the brakes to work after changing it. They had my car over a week. Got the car back and the noise was still happening. I continued to drive it. One night, my husband and I had people flagging us down to stop. We had flames shooting out the back end of the CX-9. The fire department came quickly and put out the fire. Vehicle was towed to dealer. They found the transfer case had leaked out all of its sludgy oil. Mazda corporate technician was brought in to look at the case. It had 27,000 miles and still under warranty. The transfer case was replaced and the dealer had my car another 5 weeks. A warning light came on during the fire or before. Now, at 110,000 miles the car started making a loud whining noise after reaching 40 mph. I took it right in. After 2 weeks of having my car the dealer said it was the transfer case and a wheel bearing. I assumed they were fixing it and 2 weeks passed again. They called and told me it needed a new transmission now, too!! I have to have it fixed but will trade it ASAP!! They have had my car for almost 6 weeks. Called Mazda Corp. and they refused to help at all. They said since one transfer case was replaced by warranty that even if the car was recalled, I couldnt receive another part. I would have to pay out of pocket. Mazda knows there is problem with the transfer cases and knows it can lead to transmission failure but they refuse to recall the vehicles affected!

I bought my 2008 Mazda CX-9 in 2010 with about 23,000 miles from a local dealer. I loved the vehicle until the past few months. My car is now 5 years old with 78,000. I have had regular oil changes and have done all scheduled maintenance since Ive owned it. I had issues with the tie rods (scary story as well) that needed replacing. I expect brakes, tires, batteries, etc. will need replacing. I even expect that at some point the water pump will require replacing. What I did not know, is that the water pump, which of course failed a month before Christmas, is in the middle of the engine. In order to replace this $159 part, the entire engine had to be removed. I was without my car for 4 days and the total bill was over $1700. $159 in parts and $1500 in labor ($105 per hour). I am of course out of warranty but the dealer said to call the customer service number, they will likely help. NOPE, not a dime. What I have discovered about Mazda is that MAZDA DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS. I will NEVER buy another Mazda and I will be telling the world for the rest of my life. Mazda just doesnt care about their customers so think of that before you make such an expensive purchase.

My automatic starter hardly ever works. Ive had scans run, it looked at by several people but no one knows what the issue is. This is my 3rd Mazda and Ive been so disappointed, Im sure it will be my last. I now have the engine light and gas cap light on again and was told it was fuel emissions and to change gas cap. Did that, no change. This car has me terrified Im going to be stranded somewhere with my children.

Please let it be known that I nor my family will EVER be buying another Mazda ever again and I will be making it very public about how Mazda “helps” their customers. I leased a 2016 Mazda CX-5 after thinking it was the best decision for my family. I am now 8 months pregnant with my second child, have had the car for less than 2 years and the display screen is glitching. I found out it needs an infotainment display screen that will cost me $1200+. This is a MANUFACTURER issue and according to dealerships a known issue with these cars. It’s nothing I did and Mazda’s response back to me was, We can cover most of it but you will still have to pay about $400. So let me get this straight. I am LEASING and planned on financing what was at the time a brand new car in which a display screen went in less than 2 years which is a manufacturer issue so I cannot check any maintenance, no radio, etc. and I’m ** out of luck with getting it fixed? Great job Mazda. NEVER AGAIN.

At around 4:30 PM just last October 2, while traveling south at 30-35mph on Hunziker St. near Wall St. Tigard, OR. I had to center a piece of debris in the road and it struck and punctured the engine oil pan. This minor contact deployed both airbags which busted the windshield and knocked out my radio, vent louvers and rearview mirror. My research via the internet found this to be an issue with 95 Miatas. Please look into this issue to confirm if Mazda is responsible for the bags/glass/control module, sensors and switches. Understandably, the oil pan is my problem, and thank goodness I was not injured by the bags or fling glass and was able to maintain control of the vehicle.

I replaced my 2002 Mazda Tribute plugs (about 85,000 miles) with new ones. 2 /12 months later my first plug blew out (#6) and took the coil pack with it in the front head. I had an insert put in. Only 2 1/2 months later and another plug blew out (#1 I think) in the rear head. Jesse of Scappoose, called the complainants on this forum morons because we want to blame someone else for not putting in the correct plugs. What an idiot. I have replaced plenty of plugs in my day. I used regular plugs that are specified for this engine, nothing fancy. They are gapped and I use anti-seize compound on the threads. I hand tighten the plugs. No cross-threading is occurring. My theory on what happened is the stress of removing the old plugs weakened the surrounding metal and causing the new plugs to blow out within a short period of time. My repair is taking place tomorrow and I had planned on fixing the 4 others with inserts before they blow. However, after reading this long list of blowout events I have some reservations about how long the repairs will last and thus am thinking about getting it fixed and then trading it in for another manufacturer (Jeep perhaps?)

On January 20, I received a letter from Mazda Corporate due to certain issues with certain vehicles, including mine. From my understanding, the timing chain on certain models had turned out to be defective and this would extend the warranty for that specific part and problems caused by it to 70,000 miles. The letter advised that if the consumer experiences a ticking noise, they need to contact the closest Mazda Dealership. Never experiencing any problems, as mentioned above, I got curious and did some research which led me to find out that this problem had affected many so I decided to schedule an appointment for Friday, February 3, to which I never made it to.About a week after receiving the letter, my Mazdas engine failed at 67,000 miles. I was stuck under pouring, cold rain trying to push it off the road. After getting it towed to the North Penn Mazda Dealership, I was notified the following morning that my vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. I researched it and came to the conclusion that the connecting rod between the crank shaft and the piston has broken causing it to go through the engine block and make a hole. The Mazda technician that inspected it told me that the failure most likely was not related to the timing chain but to make an accurate statement, they would need to open up the engine for which I would have to pay $800.00 to $1,000.00. I opened a case file with the corporate, which after contacting the dealership, told me that since the damage most likely is not related to the timing chain, Mazda was not liable regardless the fact that the source of the problem was not diagnosed. After getting many opinions from other technicians, I came to the conclusion that there is nothing that I, as a responsible consumer, could have done to prevent this from happening and that the engine was most likely poorly manufactured. I looked more in this matter and with simple sources of research I found out that there had been numerous similar cases throughout North America. With that in mind, I contacted the Service Manager at the Mazda Dealership seeking for help but I was shut down with two words out of warranty. The service manager told me that he understands my frustration and that when one purchases a $25,000 vehicle they expect to get more than 67,000 miles out of it, however, there was nothing he could do after contacting his corporate representative. After sending many emails I received a response from Mazda customer service explaining that if I did authorize the diagnosis and it resulted to show manufacturing defect, Mazda would cover the expenses to fix the damage. I called to confirm the email and after investigating the case, a gentleman from the customer service department left me a voice mail confirming the information. The following day I received another call from customer service stating that Mazda would not honor the statement made on the email and that no assistance will be offered. I requested to speak to a manager who got back to me two days later. Mr. G stated that Mazda will not offer any assistance of any form regardless the outcome of the diagnosis and the email sent did not imply what it stated.Meanwhile my technician had diagnosed the issue and had concluded that the damage was caused by bad assembly, poorly put together and that should be covered by the manufacturer. The conclusion, if I want to be able to drive this car again, I will need $6,000.00 plus taxes to replace the engine which I had no fault and no contribution in breaking.

MAZDA 3 SkyActive - I have only 2200 miles on this auto and it has a peculiar issue. When driving at various speeds, when you press the brake to slow down and stop, this car revs from roughly 1000 RPM to almost 3,000 RPM. This causes the car not to want to stop even when pressing down on the brake. This car is dangerous to drive for wife and myself due to this various serious issue. This has happened about 6 times this year and I bought the car new. I keep it parked most of the time of having the fear of creating an accident if I cant stop and hit the car in front of me.I even took out the floor mat in front, checked the front floor for object, and clearances and everything looks good. I even am careful to the footwear that I drive in so that wont cause any problems. My wife refuses to drive the car at all. I have taken this car into service 2 times and the dealer told me that there was no apparent problem and had no issues. They did say that they had to adjust the engine a bit to keep it running smoother, case closed. Not so! This keeps occurring and I want to know if this has been an ongoing issue with this tin can or is the car I own a lemon? This is a very, very dangerous situation and if no one gets killed or hurt it could become a case for a class action lawsuit like Toyota a few years ago. I have never had this type of problem happen with any car that I have previously owned. The problem about should be brought to someones attention for everyone out there.

While riding on the freeway with my daughter, our engine knocked and started to go slow, super slow like 10-20 miles per hour. I slowly pulled off and called my husband. He towed the car to Mazda and their excuse was because of vehicle maintenance, they would not replace the engine. They said there was sludge in the engine. Mazda has denied our warranty claim because of sludge in the engine, however this issue is caused by Mazdas faulty design in the turbo engine/timing chain which cooks the engine oil. Our car is only 2 years old and has only 50K miles and they are saying the sludge is caused by the owner. Ive had several vehicles and even if we never got an oil change an engine doesnt die like that from oil changes. Mazda will not provide us with any pictures or a copy of the denial report to verify this issue. Our warranty claim is denied and they will not even talk to us about this issue. I mentioned to our local dealer when serviced but they commented it was normal. My son has a BT50 and the seating is far more comfortable. I did mention the discomfort to one of the sales reps and he could not believe me. It will soon be out of warranty and just wondered if or how I could get a second opinion. If that is the way it is that’s fine, but I will more than likely sell this car for a more comfortable sedan and quite likely not bother looking at a Mazda purchase again in the future.

The fuel rail leaked fuel last March on my CX9, three months after I made my last payment. It was 8000 miles out of warranty. The cost was over $1000. Town North Mazda in Richardson and Mazda USA refused to help me with repair costs, even though this is not a wear and tear part. They did offer to sell me a new car though. I believe it was defective. I wrote several appeals for help, but to no avail. 6 months later, the front-wheel bearing went bad, fusing to the hub despite having the car checked at a dealership when I first heard the noise. $500! Now the AC switch is not working. Hopefully only a relay, but it may turn out to be a blower-motor. Probably another $1000 in repairs. This car has seen the shop more in the last 8 months than my previous Ford 156,000 miles in 10 years. No more Mazdas in my garage. Reading this site is disturbing. It is not necessarily the list of complaints about reliability, but Mazdas apparent lack of concern for its customers. Or should I say suckers. Now I know why Mazda has such a great track record with recalls. There arent any. I am dumping this CX9. Any readers should follow my advice and do the same. Expensive lesson learned.

Public Service Announcement: Dont buy a Mazda AND do not use Passport Mazda
Public Service Announcement: Dont buy a Mazda AND do not use Passport Mazda in Suitland, MD. My daughters Mazda 6 had a sunroof that literally exploded on Jan 11, 2017 while she was driving. She said it sounded like a gunshot and she almost wrecked. It exploded upward and out of the vehicle although she had A LOT of glass that rained back in on her and the inside of her car. The vehicle was only 8 months old. Mazda replaced the sunroof out of goodwill (as they put it) and informed us that it was probably due to a shard of metal in the track left over from manufacturing... pressure built up on the glass and it exploded. Her vehicle is not the first vehicle to do this - Google it! They are refusing to repair the leather seats that the glass got embedded in and ripped and are refusing to fix the paint where the glass flew out and took a chunk of paint off the roof and the trunk of the vehicle. We have been trying to work through this with them since January. I have been on the phone with Corporate Mazda who in turn have been trying to get Passport Mazda on the phone for 2 weeks to get their side of the story. They have not made a connection with Corporate in over two weeks. Isnt that like ignoring your boss? Besides the fact that Mazda will not stand behind their product and quality. One of my daughters first adult purchases has not turned out to be a disheartening experience. They have not heard the last from us as we stand up for what is right! Do not purchase a Mazda as their customer service is LESS THAN SATISFACTORY and we purchased not ONE but TWO MAZDAS ON THE SAME DAY! Its all about how you respond to what goes wrong, Mazda!

I own a Mazda CX-5, that I bought without a warranty because of the great reviews about maintenance and service of the vehicle. Please do not make the same mistake! Mazda will not assist with any rare malfunctions that may happen to your vehicle! They will tell you the car is outside the warranty and anything is possible. They can not explain what caused your malfunction or why it’s possible other than its outside the warranty and anything is possible! Our daughter was in an accident with extensive front end damage. The airbags never deployed even though the radiator was pushed into the engine. The hood looks like an upside down V. The front bumper was removed and the side front wheel panels were also damaged. This was a 1999 Protege LX. Is this a defect that the bags did not deploy?

My 2008 Mazda Cx9 went into flames while parked in front of the house. Horrible times. Had to get the kids out right next to the burning car. 2007 Mazda Miata MX-5 manual transmission - I am in the market for a more practical car so I have been reading reviews of the brands I am considering. Every brand seems to have issues and I just wanted to share my experiences with the Miata. I bought the car new in December 2006 and have been the sole driver since. It now has 110,000 miles and still going strong. The only mechanical repair I have had was needing to replace the thermostat around 80,000 miles. I just now had to get new brakes for the first time. The paint still looks brand new and I am constantly being asked if it is a new car. The only thing that has not held up well is the cloth upholstery on the drivers front seat but the aftermarket leather seat covers look fabulous. I LOVE THIS CAR! I have loved it since I drove off the dealership lot. I lament having to part with it for a larger car that is better in the snow and after reading the reviews, I am even more hesitant to replace it. If you are considering a Miata from the 2006-2015 generation, I can highly recommend one.

I leased CX-3 for 3 years from Mazda. When I returned it, I thought my car looked pretty well maintained except the curb rash on the wheels. I was wrong. The wear and tear charges were more than $1000 dollars because they charge for every little thing you did not even notice when you had your car plus on damages that Mazda should be responsible for. For example, if you drive in rain or wash your car, there will be water damage in the headlight that is going to cost you $350 for EACH headlight. The receipt is the final list after I made them remove a few things. I am leasing a car from Mercedes too, and they are not charging me for every tiny scratch like Mazda did. So if you lease a car from Mazda, make sure you fix everything including tiny tiny scratches and damages caused by their poor assembly.

I have owned a Mazda since 1983. With different models, I call their products “chick vehicles”. All you ever had to do was change the oil. I own a 2007 Mazda Tribute. The driver door wasnt put on correctly. The headlight seals have all leaked. One was replaced under warranty and one not. After the warranty was up, I was told I have an oil leak. Its the major seal and will be about $1200.00 to pull the engine and transmission to replace it. When I made a comment at Lee Johnson Kirkland dealership where I bought the car, I was told all new cars are made cheap. The best is yet to come. I almost lost my hand. The hood came down on it and actually latched. I was trapped for about an hour until I finally broke off the wiper arm and pried my hand out. Its badly smashed and I have numbness in my hand but Im thankful to have my fingers. My car also has the recall for the sticking throttle. I got the recall letter in August. Its now the middle of November and Im told theres only parts for 04 models and older. They have made modifications to unlatch and open a trunk from the inside and outside but beware, if that hood latches close, there’s no way out except the release located in the driver’s side. Seriously, 26,000. I don’t think I will purchase another product from them ever again.

Notice I said had. 3 weeks ago the car died while my husband was driving to meet carpool, shortly thereafter, it spontaneously went up in flames! It completely burned the engine, dash, tires all to a crisp. In process of settling with insurance company, but as everyone knows Im out thousands of dollars! We are working class family, and this was our only transportation. How do we hold Mazda liable? How do we recoup the millions of dollars consumers have lost by purchasing this car?

I drive a 2009 Mazda CX9. On Friday Sept 18th I had picked my kids and friends up from school. Normally I wouldnt stop and grab a coffee but I did. When we came out and were getting back in the car I heard a bang, I looked and my front left tire was just about falling off. Thank God we stopped because I would have been driving with 4 kids in the car. I had to have the car towed, and have my brothers friend that is a mechanic look at it. One week later on Friday, Sept 25th I got a safety recall letter in the mail saying lower control arm ball joint can corrode, well that is what happened to mine. I Had it towed to a Mazda dealership. The Service Manager called to tell me I need new front tires. I said that should be part of the recall because everything I have read about symptoms of ball joints going bad is front tires balding. Well I have called Mazda three times and spoke to different people and nobody will help me. My back tires are just fine. I bought Mazda because I thought it was a safe family vehicle, I will be selling and getting something different.

Back in June of 2015 we purchased a new 2016 Mazda CX5 from Fremont Mazda in Fremont CA. Once we agreed on the price, the car was delivered to us in poor condition, the paint felt like sandpaper (it was not prepped right) and we found cookie crumbs in the cup holder and candy wrappers under the drivers seat. By the time transaction was done it was late (about 9:30PM), but even with the poor outside lighting, we noticed defects in the paint on the hood of the vehicle. The dealer assured us they would take care of it. It was late, and even with all these issues we took the car home, trusting that all would be made right. I could look past the cookie crumbs and the candy wrappers, but in daylight the next day, multiple defects in the paint were very apparent. We took the car back to the dealer, they had a Mazda rep look at it. It was determine that the defects were under the clear coat of the paint, but they were severe enough to do anything about. The dealer offered after some complaining to repaint the hood (could not guarantee it would match) or get us a VISA gift card for $500. As I was pretty fed up with the dealer, we opted for the VISA gift card. It took about 6 weeks and lots of calls, but what finally arrived from Mazda was a Mazda gift card, good for only 1 year, but for Mazda mechanical repairs only. What good is $500 of credit for repairs on a brand new car that has a 3 year warranty? By the way repairs dont include painting the hood. So now I have a car with defects that came from the factory that no one will do anything about. After multiple complaints, the dealer said, Mazda will make the next 2 lease payments to make it up to us, nothing ever happened. Then the dealer said instead we would receive a $500 check from Mazda. That was at least 4 weeks ago, NOTHING!I wish I could say the story ends here, but it got worse quickly. A couple of weeks after buying the car, a piece of gravel hit the windshield and cracked it so badly - the car is not drivable as the crack is along the drivers side of the windshield and quite large. The insurance company authorized a replacement ASAP. This was in early July. Turns out Mazda does not have any replacement windshields anywhere in the US as the model is so new, yet they continue in production somehow. It is now almost 3 MONTHS later and still no windshields available, no date as to when it will be, and no offer of help from the dealer at all.We have made multiple payments on this car since early July, have not been able to drive it and have defects that are permanent in the paint before we even got it home. The dealer not only did not keep the commitment of compensation for the paint, but offered us no help when we found out the back ordered windshield could take months to come in (and it has). We even checked into aftermarket windshields, but were told, they are also not yet available. As a consumer, I believe there is an implied understanding when you buy a new car, that typical replacement parts will be available, clearly not the case with Mazda and the 2016 CX5. We will never look at another Mazda, not because of what happened, but rather because the company and the dealer offered no help. I called Mazda corporate helpline many times. They dont return phone calls and when you do finally get someone, they tell you, you need to be patient, and we value your business, right!

Well, guess what? That vibration that they supposedly fixed (with used parts - that I did not authorize) - still rears it head every now and then. I got stuck with the car and they had to change the valve body - on a brand new car that had roughly 3000 miles on it (yes, that is 3 thousand miles) and ever since I have a hard downshift that although the tech tells me he feels, the dealership repair center tells me is normal - this is of course after I returned it because of the hard downshift and the Rep told me that the computer needed to relearn my driving habits. Almost 1000 miles later, it is still doing it.NOW for the new problems. Yesterday I went to shift out of park and the transmission did not shift. 3 times I tried, finally it shifted. This morning I went to start my car via remote and I kept getting a P code on the fob. Book says its because the car was not in PARK. (Um yeah okay - car was parked in the driveway since 6pm the night before... and shut off). Cant wait for the BS they tell me now... Do yourself a favor. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER MAZDA. NO ONE - I REPEAT - NO ONE IS HELPFUL AND ALL THEY DO IS LIE TO YOU.

I recently bought a Mazda CX-5 (2 months ago). At the time of purchase I had only a couple of criteria but they were very important to me since I put A LOT of mileage on my cars. (My last car was a 2007 and it had 380,000 km on it when I finally decided to buy a new car.) My criteria: The car needed to have XM/Sirius availability, a bluetooth that enabled true hands free use of my cell phone calls and an easy to use, straightforward navigation system. I was told the CX 5 I was purchasing had all three… WHAT A LIE!!!I paid an extra $1300 for the tech package to be installed into the car that would supposedly allow all three of above criteria. Immediately it was evident that something was wrong with the navigation (or so I thought). It took no less than 7 step to input any address into it. It was impossible to use on the fly and required not only pulling over to input info BUT it demanded 6 more levels of information before it would give me directions! Im serious. After returning to Budds dealership to attempt to gain further insight on how to correct this issue it became evident that NONE of the salespeople knew how to operate it! NONE! Not even the sales manager. We had to contact the Navigation system manufacturers in the state to find out what the problem was. Turns out, there was no problem. That was the crappy-ass cheap nav system that Mazda had ordered for their 2016 CX line of cars!!! Oh - by the way, the voice recognition is non-existent. Now I am back to driving around having to rely on my iPhone Google Maps to direct me on my travels. Nice to know Mazda has our backs (tongue firmly planted in check) helping its customers abide by the hands free driving rules now strictly in place in Canada and the US. There is no excuse for this type of 20th century technology in todays 21st century, seriously?? The XM was a joke, it does not actually show up on the in-dash display. It is provided exclusively by a tiny little remote that has push buttons. No scrolling capability, no visual feedback about what station you are on or listening to, unbelievable. By the way, I had the tech package removed and requested my $1300 back. My Bluetooth is another matter, cuts in and out on a regular basis. I have to reconnect my phone and the cars bluetooth at least 4 times a month. Again, as with the nav system, the voice recognition is non-existent.I HATE THIS CAR. $40,000 and 7 yrs of car payments for the privilege of driving a car with no nav system, XM/Sirius or bluetooth capability. So basically I am back driving around having to use my iPhone for cell calls and google maps. One more thing, the gas mileage sucks, the tank is the size of a football. I am filling up every second or third day AND it sounds like a diesel engine when you first start it up. I thought something was wrong with the muffler when I first started driving it. Turns out the loud engine and exhaust noise is the result of the skyactiv technology they use, another huge marketing BS story they try to sell you about why Mazda is so advanced. Did I mention HOW MUCH I HATE THIS CAR??

I own a 2006 Mazda 6. I purchased the vehicle in September of 08 with 20,000 miles, and all remaining warranty in force. In June of 2011, the check engine light comes on, and the engine begins to make a loud noise. I immediately had the car towed to the dealer, who notified me the next day that I will need a new engine. At this point, the car has 42,000 miles on it. The cost will be $6,600 for a brand new engine; they will only provide warranty for one (1) year, and because my warranty was up a few months prior, they will not stand behind it.While speaking to somebody from the Mazda corporate office, I was given only given a “sorry about your luck” attitude. As a result of the cost, I sent the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who replaced the engine with a used engine that has warranty for three years. I was also informed that there is a well known issue with Mazda engines, but the company refuses to stand behind their product, or remedy the problem.I dont think its unrealistic to expect a vehicle to last longer than 5 years (that only has 42,000 miles, and with only 20,000 miles is mine). Clearly by just reading problems posted online, there are many issues with Mazda products. Judging from my experience, speaking to somebody from their corporate office who would neither allow me to speak to anyone with authority, or offer any resolution to the problem to keep a customer, I certainly will not be purchasing any of their products in the future, and I would advise anyone I know to look elsewhere.

I bought a 2007 Mazda CX7 with 28k miles on it. I love my car, except now we have issues. At 30k miles, the timing chain was replaced under warranty. The weekend before Christmas, the turbo went out. We had the car towed back to our Mazda dealership where they filed a claim with Mazda and it was denied due to sludge. We have always had our oil changed and even provided our service records. This is the nicest car I have ever driven. It now has 40,000 kms. and is running perfectly. BUT: when I first purchased the car I said that the brake and gas pedals seemed to be too close together and my shoe caught the bottom of the brake pedal when I tried to move from the gas to the brake. Did not think this was a major problem until we were sitting in the fast food takeout line and the car started to inch forward while I was stepping on the brake. I stepped down harder and the car revved up and lurched forward hitting the car in front of us. My shoe which was stepping on the brake was also touching the gas so the harder I stepped on the brake, the more I stepped on the gas also. While there was hardly any damage to both cars (some bumper damage to car in front about $600.) IF A CHILD HAD BEEN BETWEEN THE CARS, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CRUSHED. This is an issue that should be addressed by the designers before someone is injured or killed. This problem is not unique to Mazda, other car manufacturers like Toyota, Ford, Mini Cooper all have the same problem. I also have a Suzuki, and this is not a issue with it, as there is about 3 inches space between the pedals. Is it possible that because Asian designers tend to design cars for people with smaller feet, that they do not consider that North Americans are generally bigger and therefore would wear larger footwear which may cause a problem in a confined space? I am going to have the brake pedal removed, cut, and rewelded so that the pedal is about 3 inches more to the left. This will fix the problem I have, and perhaps it will save a future accident that may be worse than the one I just had. Anyone else have an insights on this issue?
