I have been complaining about an issue with my 2003 Saturn for just over 3 years. Each time I contacted GM they said that this issue was not a problem in Canada. I found numerous writings on the internet of owners having the same issue. Recently I was driving along when a warning sound came on and my message center lit up with the message PWR STR, the service engine warning light also became illuminated. This time I had a passenger in my car who witnessed how the car was a challenge for me to control and manage. I contacted 3 or 4 GM dealerships presented them with the letter of awareness I received from GM advising that I may experience this issue with my car, I was told they are not aware of the Power Steering issue and that I would need to pay for any repairs. I finally contacted GM and was told to take my car to a dealership and pay to have a diagnostic test completed and if it revealed that there was an issue with the Power Steering I would not have to pay the charge for the diagnostic test. As most people who have posted their complaint online have indicated that they have paid out large sums of money for repairs that did not resolve the issue. I was told by the dealership today November 14, 2011 that I needed to replace the Transmission Control Module @ a cost of $999.50 plus installation charge of $230.00 for a total of $1,413.93. I am posting this as I want to make sure that there is a public record should I be killed or left with injuries so severe that I cannot communicate, at least my family would be aware that this car was defective and GM did not make the necessary repairs.

Can someone please help us resolve issues? We own a 2004 Saturn VIN #**. We had the transmission replaced in 9/3/2010 at 74,562 mileage. We paid $2,137.87 (invoice #**). My problem is that the transmission is out again and the car has 88,000 miles on it. Surely the transmission should last more than 13,500 miles? The transmission was replaced by Saturn of Fort Worth. We contacted them and they are no longer a Saturn dealer. Their phone number is (817)367-1000. Will this repair have a 36-month or 36,000 mile warranty? What are our options? Please advise.

Same as most of you, my key got stuck in the on position, and would not come out. We asked a mechanic friend who said: Disconnect the ignition fuse (its a tiny red fuse marked #10); if you are going to be out of your car for very long, go ahead and disconnect the battery as well. Weve been driving our car like this for 2 months now, as we cannot afford a new ignition. This will get really inconvenient during rainy season. Please, Saturn...someone, anyone....Recall this so we can all get our cars fixed and get on with it! Please!

I bought my 2006 Saturn Ion with only 30,000 or so miles around this time last year. This past winter, it was constantly not turning on. It would take me about 50+ tries in order for it to start. I took it to several trusted mechanics who couldnt find any problem at all. Now as I am waiting for a potential employer to call me back about a job, I have no vehicle. My transmission just stopped working! The gears change perfectly fine but drive, neutral, and first and second just dont do anything at all. But reverse works perfectly well.

Key would not come out of the ignition. Could not shut car off and ran into the same issue. When I spoke with GM, they had never heard of this problem. After giving them my VIN #, I was told there were 2 to 3 recalls for my car but nothing for the ignition problem. The person from GM then got a GM dealer from Austin on the phone with me who proceeded to tell me if I bring it in for $115 they will hook it up to figure out what was wrong. I have got an estimate for approx $400 to fix it. I was told the ignition was about $60 but if the housing is bad that adds another $160, $50 for a new key and programming. Besides the fact that they have to be replaced with the same defective GM parts and that it can happen again at any time.

2007 Saturn ION2: Three times, I have gotten into my car, turned the key, and nothing...no noise, nothing... Waited an hour, and then it was fine. Now, I parked my car, went to turn off the car, but the key wouldnt budge, and the car would not shut off. Followed the manual to put the car in parked, open a little compartment under the steering wheel, push in a plunger, and hold it to the drivers door and remove the key...IT DIDNT WORK! Had to pull the due and disconnect the battery to turn the car off, but the key is still stuck in the ignition. Even if you turn the key too far, there is no noise. I think it is electrical too...I read somewhere that someones car just shut off while driving...I AM PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT FROM THIS AND SUE GM, SINCE SATURN IS OUT OF BUSINESS! IS THAT WHAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE BEFORE THIS GETS RECALLED!!!

Also, the trunk wont open, the stability and stabilizer track is acting up and GM has nothing to say about this. How can one help me address this issue? I am literally fed up with Saturn. I have been having all sorts of problems with this car, from the key being stuck in the ignition, to the car not starting anytime the temperature is below 50 degrees, to the car stopping in the middle of the traffic. I have notified Saturn and even payed them before they went out of business, to fix this problem and yet it still exist. I have contacted the BBB and was stated that nothing could be done because I was past the warranty and lemon laws for the state of TN. Someone needs to help us. Within an hour, I have read about 20 complaints. Does it take that many complaints to get attention about these cars? This is horrible. Im so upset with Saturn, GMC, and BBB, for not supporting their customers.

I have a 2005 Saturn Ion that I bought with 37,000 miles on it. Whenever the temperature is below 30, my car starts when it wants to. When I turn the key in the ignition, my security system light just flashes and wont let me try and start my car again for 10 minutes while it resets itself. It takes anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes to get my car started. I have resorted to putting a bathroom heater inside my car on the driver side floor to warm up the ignition so it will start. I have dealt with this for 2 years and I am buying a new car in a couple of days, because I cant take getting stuck after work for 30 minutes because my security system thinks Im breaking into my car. Ill take the $3,000 loss on my car!

The car has been unreliable since day one--the window has continually fogged up, need to run it with the air on at all time. Every morning, it bucks and chugs for the first half mile. The car only has 50,000 miles on it and now I have had to replace the starter, and of course the ignition. My work around for this has been to pull all the plastic around the steering column. I pulled the key out with pliers and I can now start it by twisting the ignition bezel. I stop it by pulling the electrical connection at the back of the ignition cylinder. It is a manual transmission. Does anyone have an 800 number at GM that I can call and complain to?

My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignition. I am a nursing student and I missed a very important meeting due to this issue. I drove to a Firestone and he said that he has fixed at least 50 Saturn Ions with this same issue this year. He also said due to Saturn parts being in an unorganized warehouse, it would take at least five to 10 business days until he would be able to receive the part. So I could be out of a car for possibly two weeks. And it will cost around $600 for repair and labor. I will also have to pay for a rental during this time! Saturn and General Motors need to be held accountable if so many consumers are having the same issue! The key of my 2007 Saturn got locked in the on position and couldnt turn off. I know other Saturn owners who have had the same problem; I found numerous complaints on the Internet.

My 2009 Saturn Vue had been progressively difficult to steer and also made a grinding sound when turning to the right. This went on for several months. It was taken to the dealership for this, but no repairs were made b/c the tech did not see/hear the issue. A few months later, the Vue lost control and went into a skid. Diagnostics at the dealer showed that there was a steering gear leaking fluid and that the steering pump needed replacement. Also, the steering sensor was not programmed correctly. This sounds very much like the recall on 2008-2009 Saturn Vues, however mine is not in that batch. Please, if anyone else is experiencing this sort of issue with your 2009 Vue, please file a complaint on www.safercar.gov. Something needs to be done about this defect! Your voice/experience will make a difference in the safety of other drivers.

I just got off the phone with GM Corporate. They again are refusing to take responsibility for the brake issue on the Saturn Aura. I bought a 2007 Saturn Aura new. At 27,300 I had to replace the brakes and rotors. Then at 46,000 I had to replace the brakes and have the calipers cleaned. I finally gave up and traded in the car because of GMs refusal to take responsibility for the AURA brake problems. This morning I reported General Motors to the NHTSA (888) 327-4236 and to the Federal Trade Commission (877) 382-4357. GM says they will not reimburse me until there is a recall. Please report your problems so we can force a recall. The number to GM Corporate for Saturn is (800) 553-6000.

I noticed about a year ago that my ignition would stay on after I removed my key from the slot. I thought this was odd, but not a problem since if I turned to the off position the motor would cut as it should. In December of this year, and again in February as I drove my car along very busy streets it turned off. The wheel froze, nothing worked as I pulled the car to the right with all of my strength. I managed to coast to the side of the road and restart my car. Both times I assumed that I had somehow hit or pulled my key. Ive since (about 10 days ago) received a recall notice in the mail. I urge anyone who knows someone with such a car to take it to a repair shop as soon as possible. My experience was quite scary and potentially dangerous.

I returned home and the key wouldnt turn off. It was locked in the on position, still running. The temperature outside is over 100 and my husband even had to take the steering column apart just to shut the engine off. So now, you basically have to hot wire the car to start it and disconnect wire to turn it off. I can see that Im not the only one out here with the same problem - mine is a Saturn Ion 2005 with 45,000 miles. We need a recall! Obviously, Saturn has a real problem here. My 2006 Saturn Ion began having starting problems locking up. I took my car in due to one of the recalls on this model in hopes this problem would be resolved once and for all. The service department said the locking up problem was not part of the recall and that I needed a new battery or a new starter. I told him that I had already had both of these replaced and the problem was still ongoing. Again he said this had nothing to do with the recall. Transmission suddenly goes bad when shifting from 2 to 3. It is a known problem in Saturn transmissions and I was able to find it on an internet forum. I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! It is also a safety issue when you have no idea when its suddenly going to break!

I bought a new Saturn Ion l series and after 4 years, the key begins to stick in the ignition whenever I turn off the car. Regardless what I do it just did not release the key. Sometimes it releases it and then I would hope it doesnt happen but it did. After experiencing this more times than I can count, I drove to the dealer only to be told it would cost me 800+ dollars to get it fixed. I used my car to get to and from work and couldnt walk away. Thank God I had a credit card!!!! They fixed the problem and now years after, I have the same problem occurring again.I agree with many of the owners that GM should have a recall on these Saturns. I do not have any money to pay GM another 400 dollars for repairs that will fail again! In order to prevent the battery from running out, I disconnect the battery when I am at home or when go out. I started smelling gas in my 2006 Saturn Ion in October of 2016 and took into a local service center to have it checked. They informed me that it was the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced right away. Well in my mind all I was thinking is my car could catch on fire so I agreed and they did the repairs on 11/11/2016 to the tune of $437.79. Later I find out that this was a special coverage recall and that my local dealer would have did the job at no cost to me. I called customer care and explained that I felt like this was an emergency and was not thinking about my local dealership which is 20 miles away. She gave me a case # and told me to get a reimbursement form from dealership and submit the papers and surely they could do something. Well I sent paperwork off in January 2017 and now in March since I have not heard anything I decided to contact them. They informed me that my claim was denied and that my vehicle still has the coverage so if it happens again take it to the dealership. I told her how upset I was and this was awful that I am out off pocket for something that was their fault. My car is 11 years old with 104,050 miles on it and the cap for the coverage is I think 150,000 miles. I would hope that a fuel pump would last longer than a few thousand miles. The only difference is this happened to me when I was on vacation and I have no idea where the nearest mechanic was. I contacted AAA and they tried to come out to help but were unsuccessful. They pointed me to a Sears mechanic in the area and the gentleman there was extremely helpful, but because I was on vacation and needed to have the car to get home, they were only able to offer a temporary fix for the problem, which was to unplug the battery and remove the fuse to force the car to shut off. They were able to remove the key though. I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. If you put a faulty part in a car it should be covered by the company. This car is six years old and the transmission should not fail if quality made.

I have had to replace the ignition key & tumbler and housing twice in the last 5 years because my key gets stuck in the ignition and the car will not turn off. The last time I did this was in August 2010. Now, it is starting again. When I put my car into park the car will shut off, but it takes me about 10 minutes to get the key out. I have to restart, back-up, pull forward, rinse & repeat. It hasnt reached the point yet to where the car wont turn off but I know it is near in the future since this is how it started the other two times. I really cant afford another $600 to get this fixed again. This is a constant problem yet GM will not issue a recall to help the owners out. I will never ever again buy another GM product. This is frustrating! Does anyone happen to know of a class-action lawsuit that may be in the works? If so, please share.

My wifes 2008 Saturn Vue has 65000 miles on it. Less than a year out of warranty and without warning, the transmission started to slip. I was told by the transmission repair shop that the transmission would need to be repaired at a cost of $3000.00. The shop said there is a snap ring in these transmissions that is a common point of failure. I would estimate this is a $20.00 part at best. Why would GM continue to put cars on the market when they know there are issues with them? It appears this issue has been know about since at least 2005 and continues to 2010 based on my internet research. I feel GM has a responsibility to current Saturn owners and should recall these vehicles and make all those that have already failed eligible for restitution. I have been a lifelong GM owner but I have to say this one may be my last. If you are thinking about buying GM, I say stay away from them.

I wanted to reply to Patricia of Signal Mountain, TN on June 25, 2014 specifically. Unfortunately the dealer and auto body shop you visited seem to be unaware of this particular issue that has affected many saturn customers. I bought a 2003 saturn ion brand new and 6 months later had my first issue with the car not starting. It wasnt a dead battery, or any other issue. It just would not start. I could go try again an hour later and the car would start. My ignition switch was replaced twice under warranty and it needs to be fixed again. The problem is something in the faulty wiring that trips a security message in the computer of the car that will not allow it to start. I recommend that you look it up online (google, youtube, saturnfans.com). There are countless pages dedicated to the exact issue your daughter is having. When you get a grasp of what the issue is, speak to a trusted mechanic. Let him know what you found out and I am sure they will be able to help. The solution is often as easy as a $25 ignition switch replacement.

Computer warning and detection symbols go on and off. But, the engine light has been on for more than 2 years. Its been reset, but comes on later. Sometimes the radio shows funky symbols. Took it in for inspection. They reset the engine light. Drove it until it came on. Went back within 50 miles of driving. The code was undetermined by the dealer/manufacturer. Dont know how Ill ever sell it with an engine light on. It can be inspected if the shop tries to repair it and you spend up to $200. But, I have never had a car that the engine light ever came on period. And, Ive had quite a few. Whats up with that.

On 5/30/13, I was driving home from work and turning a corner when the power steering light came on in my car. A chime went off and the message PWR STR appeared. My car then died; the wheel and brakes locked. I thought I was going to hit this mom with her two kids. I panicked and grabbed the emergency brake; jumped a curb. I had my car towed to a local shop by my house completely unaware that ** GM/Saturn is aware of the powering steering failure issue and REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL! $1,000 later and NO help from GM, I have no money to feed my family, missed work and almost lost my job. I am terrified beyond words to drive this **. When this happened, it had 24,698 miles on it. NEVER EVER BUY this car. Thank God they are out of business. Im hopefully getting a new car - NON-GM next week because driving any Saturn (or any GM made car from what Ive read) is a death sentence. I also plan on suing GM and contacting every NY news station I can think of and reporting this issue to every single possible place I can - BBB, NJ Lemon Law Unit, NHTSA, etc. LIVES NEED TO BE SAVED.

Over the last two months, I have had some problems when I would turn my car off and the key would not disengage after. I fooled with it and the key would disengage. Was driving to work on 6/13 13 in the morning; I was running along at 65 when I heard a slight click noise. At the same time, the engine and the gauges cut off. The radio was still working. I coasted off-road, turned the key again, and the car started right up. Never had that happen.Got to work and went out four hours later to start the car. It started right up, but I could not turn it off. I tried everything I knew. I took it to a local shop, and they replaced the broken parts in the steering column for the ignition key and the switch assembly. Total cost was $598.00. Does anyone know if there was a silent recall for that issue that they are not telling people? I would like to know.

2005 Saturn Ion 2: Along with my ignition switch failing, my power steering regularly going out while driving down the freeway, and my driver-side window not working, my key is now stuck in the on position with the car running. I popped the clutch to turn it off and disconnected the battery. I ordered a new ignition cylinder and plan to replace when it arrives. I agree with the majority of the community that there are far too many problems with particular parts for a recall not to be made. Im elated for the day I can rid myself of this car. Its been nothing but continual problems. My Honda on the other hand has nearly the same miles and not one problem in 5 years.

My 3 vehicles were on the recall list. I currently have the Chevrolet and the other two cars were sold. During the first year of purchasing these vehicles, I incurred problems with each of them. The vehicles would sporadically start/stall on me and my son. We both experienced being stranded at work, in parking lots or while running errands. My son worked late hours and in the City of Detroit. He had to sit and wait for my husband to come from Commerce Township to W. 8 Mile-Detroit. Needless to say, those occurrences were frightening and very unsafe. On a number of occasions, my husband had to jump start the both of us.We replaced 3 batteries and that did not fix the problem. After towing the vehicles from repair shops to the dealership, the service dept. told me, the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero needed an ignition switch/cylinder and new key fob. The car worked fine after that. Then, I had to replace the ignition switch on the 2008 Saturn LS. The 2005 Chevrolet Impala was serviced upon the recall notice. My complaint is, I spent money for ignitions on both vehicles before the recall and General Motors denied my claim for reimbursement. There should be a class action suit for customers who experienced the same circumstance.

I love my car (2005 Saturn ION coupe)! However, as the weather warmed up, my key would not come out of the ignition. I looked up how much it would cost to fix this and the price was outrageous. As with the other comments, why is this not a recall item? You cant get out of the car unless you have the presence of mind to hit the door lock, which may be difficult as we have been programmed to find the door unlocked when the ignition is turned off. Cheap temporary fix: under the steering column is a small diamond-shaped cover and I popped it off and pressed my thumb on a switch on the left-hand side (switch has spongy feeling - and a little greasy) and turned the key at the same time. No problem. This is temporary and will not stop the key from getting stuck again, but Id rather be inconvenienced a bit than pay out the nose for something that is well documented and should be fixed by a recall.

I bought a 2002 Saturn Ion sl2 and Ive had nothing but problems. How is it that these crooks are allowed to get away with this? My ignition locked up while I was driving leaving me stranded for three hours on a busy road in 100 degree heat with no extra money for a tow truck or to get it fixed, and unable to after replacing the ignition to unlock the vehicle. I am glad that my son was not in the car with me and there was no accident as an outcome of this or GM would be hearing from my attorney. I will be getting rid of this car immediately. And the thing that irritates me the most is that NO ONE from this company cares. They care about making their money and robbing people, people like me who had to save up months to be able to purchase a vehicle hoping it would be reliable and safe to transfer my son and I from daycare, work and school. I will never purchase another vehicle through them again. Now I have to worry about how I will be repairing a vehicle I dont have money to fix and still pay my bills and find a way to work and school. Thank you so much for your poor engineering.

Two days later, as I was driving, my power steering light came on and started beeping and my steering wheel got stiff! I am posting this as an insurance to make Saturn liable if anything happens to me while driving and this steering wheel freezes up on me and I’m in an accident due to this problem!!! There seems to be a lot of problems in regards to the power steering. But my vehicle freezes up on the steering column and I’m not able to move the steering wheel to move out of the road! If I had already repaired my transmission, I was supposed to submit receipts for reimbursement of repair cost up to $3000. I took it to the dealer and they found the transmission was faulty and was covered under the recall. The dealer installed a new transmission at no cost to me. I have the same problem. I just had the recall from GM done on my 03 Saturn Ion today. They replaced the switch and ignition lock cylinder because of cars going dead because the ignition switch turned off easily with a little weight on the key ring. Accidents occurred and they were sued. This was not for and did not fix the problem of the key not turning all the way off without reaching underneath and pressing the solenoid plunger which feels like a switch (They said nothing when replacing the new switch if this ever happened then). I did not inform them of the problem either.I just found a fairly new video on YouTube that concerns this very problem. Watch the video. Long story short, the shifter micro-switch is not engaging either because of a bad switch or a bad placement fit of the switch to where the plunger of the switch is not being depressed as to close the switch and therefore allow voltage to be applied to the ignition switch solenoid, freeing the cylinder to turn off. The YouTube video title is Saturn Ion key ignition stuck wont come out (solved) manual override & troubleshoot . Search for: video ** by Danroxye01. He made a later one to better explain with audio of what he found out.

In January 2010, my family purchased a one owner, 2003 Saturn Vue 6 cyl. It was a great SUV until last week. That was the day the VTI transmission decided to come apart whilst I was driving on the Interstate at 70mph in rush hour traffic. Upon getting it into the old Saturn dealership, I was told by the service manager that this was a known problem, GM had an extended policy on it and I should call the above number to start a claim. I went home and looked this known problem that was not issued as a recall but rather as an internal service memo. Imagine my dismay at finding out that the previous owners had been informed of the problem, traded the Saturn in and were able to buy it all within the space of a month. It seems, according to the attorneys that filed the class action suit against GM, that the notice was to travel with the title (of course it didnt or wed not have bought the car). We were to be offered 5K in credits on a new GM car and there would be no punishment on the trade-in of the piece of junk we now owned. Because it was not recalled, Carfax, NTSB, et al. didnt warn us either.A week later, I finally got a call from GM and was told that I was outside the class, but GM would look into getting me something, no promises. The offer came through today. Theyd give us the 5K in credits toward a new GM car, but nothing else. No trade in (that 5K is the trade in) value and nothing more.

I purchase a 2002 Saturn Vue for my daughter in college. I have been a faithful Saturn owner without any issues prior. Since purchase, nothing but electrical problems - including a near crash on the freeway when the car abruptly slowed down to 10 mph. A recall is needed before someone is killed. Weve invested $2,000 to try and fix a ghost problem.

Whats maddening is that there doesnt seem to be any recourse. Im still making payments. Im fearful that I have more problems ahead. Is there anything that can be done?

I have had ongoing problems in the winter with my 2003 Saturn Ion not starting. This is a well-known problem with Saturns when researched.I submitted my complaints to Saturn and the BBB and was told my car was too old for coverage. This is unacceptable, as it takes a good 30 minutes to start the car. This while sitting in the cold and being late to work. The ignition switch should be replaced, again a well-known issue.

My daughter has a Saturn ion redline that was part of the recall. Her car started to have problems starting, so she took it to a repair shop and they ran diagnostics and found nothing wrong with the car. It happened again, so she took it elsewhere and they suggested she change the battery - so she did. The very next day she had difficulty starting the car on two occasions and on the third attempt later that night it would not start at all. Since the recall had been for the car suddenly shutting down - not starting, we didnt think about the recall until after that. She had hit a hidden bump in the road before it stopped completely. She called the former Saturn dealer and told them what happened and they said it was the recall (we had read up on the forums and knew it was by then) and to have it towed to them - which we did. They gave her a Buick to drive. Today they called and said they had replaced the part and it still wouldnt start so it had to be the cars engine. They want to run diagnostics (which we had already done). Understandably, we dont trust them. Has anyone else had this experience?

My wife has a 05 Saturn Vue, the engine blew up whilst driving home from work. No check engine light, no warning at all. The car lost power steering but luckily no accident. I called GM customer service and told them what happened and they said car needed to go to a dealer to be looked at... They arranged for it to be taken to local dealer. The dealer said engine was gone. I called GM back and asked them what they were planning to do and was told they would do nothing again. I explained that it could have killed my wife and that surely there should have been a warning of some description...I was passed around from person to person sitting on hold for 37 mins to speak to a supervisor. When he got on the phone he muttered something and transferred me again. So I called the headquarters in Detroit and got pretty much the same response. I now have a car that will cost more to repair than its worth. I even had to fight them to get my car towed back to my house (there was more bad cust service but too much to mention). So this bears as much as a warning to all Saturn drivers. BE CAREFUL, THEY BLOW UP WITHOUT WARNING AND GM DONT CARE!!!!!

For this past year, I have been battling with my 2004 Ion. First, it started with having a hard time starting in colder mornings. Then it took longer and longer to get it going. Finally, I took it in and spent $1,000 for a new timing belt and it was fine for a short while. I took it in again and spent another grand on a new ignition. Within 48 hours of that service, my key has gotten stuck in the ignition and would not allow the car to be turned off. After reading about all these other people suffering for something that is not our fault is complete **. This has convinced me to not ever buy a GM product again. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying an American product to support jobs but this is horrible.

We purchased a 2008 Saturn with 76,000 miles. In May 2014 we begin having transmission problems. Upon researching the net we discovered other owners having problems and GMC doing a recall. I begin correspondence and after eight months and numerous e-mails and recall letters we were told that due to the 19,000 mile over their criteria of 120,000 we were out of luck. I just had an experience where I could not turn the key backward to turn off. It was a very scary situation. I had to find someone to show me how to pull a fuse and then disconnect the ground cable to the battery so as not to run the battery down. The key is left in the on position. It looks like many people are dealing with this and I was told that this is a Saturn/GM issue. Has anyone found recourse to correct this very common occurrence with these vehicles?

We have a 2003 Saturn L200. We have noticed a gas smell for several weeks now and had it checked out and found out it has a manufactured defect in the fuel pump. There have been several complaints and Saturn has not dealt with this issue. I went online and there were a lot of complaints about this issue. I want something done about this. We are spending hundreds of dollars replacing this and I am not the only one going through this. It started in the 2002 model and has continued on to the 2003 model and Saturn does know about this.

2004 Saturn Ion 2 - The timing chain on my vehicle broke while I was driving to work and the car was disabled. The estimated repair is $6,000, which is more than the book value of the car. The car only had 100,000 miles on it. The repairman cant even find a rebuilt engine because the Saturn engines have all had the same problem. I bought the car new and did all of the recommended maintenance on it. I had planned on driving it for a few more years. I was told that the timing chain would last the life of the car and changing it was not necessary. This was told to me by the Saturn dealer, which of course is now out of business.

The anti-sway bar of my 2006 Saturn Vue snapped when making a right-hand turn at normal driving speed. The Vue was taken to the local Chevy dealership. The vehicle spent 21 days in the shop because they were unable to locate a new part. The dealership found a used part and charged the new part price. Six days later, this same part broke again, this time making a left-hand turn into my driveway. The vehicle is again in the shop.

I purchased a 2006 Saturn Vue XL, it had approximately 108,000 miles on it, lots of life left. When I hit 124,000 the transmission completely went while driving down the highway at 70 mph. But loving the look and every other aspect of the Vue I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue XE, it had 65,000. Everything was going perfect and then at 78,000 the exact same thing started happening. It started stuttering while going down the highway and eventually wouldnt even shift into gear. Learning from my last experience I purchased an extended warranty. Took it in, the transmission had gone out, exact same way as the 2006 Vue had. NOW, at 87,000, its happening again!!! I am so irate. A part continues to shave off me. Metal slivers into the transmission causing these problems. This vehicle needs to be recalled STAT!!

I have owned my 2001 Saturn L300 car for more than one year now. I never knew it will give me so many problems and I am not proud of the decision I made to buy this second hand car. Moment I bought the car I had to replace the serpentine belt, crankshaft sensor and muffler. I was also told by my service experts that it had issues with water pump and that is leaking and will break one day, which I thought I ignored for some time as I had already paid lot of money in repairs. After 3 months the battery started giving problems and had to replace the same and then the water pump started making noise which I had to fix. Meanwhile while I had battery problems, I didnt notice but apparently the ODOMETER went from 64000 miles to 694000 miles and stopped working at all. On further research, I found that this is a known issue in this car and Saturn had a recall organized some time back. But now when I took the car to GM dealer for this fix, they are not able to fix the problem, not sure what I can do?

I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue on 7/7. A month and a half later, the issues began. On 9/2, I started seeing smoke coming out of the vents with a strong coolant smell as if the antifreeze was burning. There was also an oily film on the windshield. I thought that it would go away but it continued the following day and the day after. It worsens if the air is turned on.Not even two months after purchase, my vehicle took its first trip to my privately owned auto shop. I was told by the mechanic that the hose for heating and air conditioning needed to be cleared out for any blockage. The vehicle was fine for a day or two and the same issue occurred. On 9/9, I returned to the shop and the hose was checked. There was no smoke or vapor from the vents or oily film on the windshield for two days.I called Saturn customer service to report this issue. They took all of my information and told me to take it to a GM dealer. I made an appointment with Mike Anderson, a GM certified dealer in Merrillville, Indiana. I was told that I will be charged $79.95 for each problem or complaint. On 9/16, I took the vehicle back for a different diagnosis and was told that the heater core needed to be replaced due to a fracture causing the antifreeze to leak. The antifreeze or coolant drips on the engine causing a vapor or mist to blow through the vents, causing an oily film on the windshield. On 9/21, my vehicle was dead. It wouldnt start at all. Yes! A vehicle that wasnt even three months old had a dead battery, I assumed. I used jumper cables to revive it. On 9/23, I took it to the GM dealer to be told by Joshua ** in customer service that the diagnosis is a fracture in the heater core and the entire part need to be replaced. In order to perform this repair, the entire dashboard had to be removed. Also, the battery was very weak. Joshua quoted me $1,600.00 plus $79.95 for the diagnosis. Who has that kind of money these days? Joshua attempted to bring me the vehicle and the vehicle was dead again. He used jumper cables and drove it for about five minutes and delivered it to me.I called Saturn customer service back and gave Julie more information on the diagnosis and the cost. She asked for my private auto shop that I use normally and I gave that information also. She worded the complaint as seeking reimbursement for repairs and gave me the misunderstanding that I could take it to my privately owned auto shop.I got a return call two days later only to be told that I should have taken it back to the GM dealer for repairs because they reduced the cost. What a disappointment! Why wasnt I told that in the first place by Red at customer service when I called on 9/9 or Julie when I called on 9/26? In the future, customers should be told not to take their vehicles to an outside shop because assistance cannot be given.

Never been so disappointed with GM company. By looking at all the reviews look like we are having the same problems with the Saturn Vue. It should have been a recall on all transmissions which GM already knew it was a default in them but they didnt care. I have replaced everything on that Vue except for the transmission. Just happen to be at a traffic like and the truck begin to stall and jerk like it didnt want to move. It jerked all the way going at slow speed. I was able to make it home, had a friend that work on cars take a look at it. He got in, drove it up the street and it did the same thing again. When he pulled back up to my house he gave me the bad news that it was my transmission. Im very upset and I will never purchase a GM again.

Common problems with Saturns. The L-SERIES timing chain brakes without warning , so if you are an owner always drive next to the side of the road for ease of stop when this happens (only a matter of time) the ION and VUEs have common transmission problems, the S-SERIES have a common leak issue, pretty much if you are a Saturn owner put about $4000 aside because you will need it sooner or later(sorry to say), and say a prayer before you drive that Saturn car always.

I think Im going to kill myself from the financial downfall that this car has put me in. I owned it for 8 months (February 2011) and bought for $12,000. The first repair was rebuilding the transmission at $4000. Second repair was at $200 and it was for the battery that’s draining for no good reason. Third repair is for a bad celluloid and a bad fuel pressure sensor; cost is $675. I also have the problem with the steering wheel. I’m just waiting for that one to go next.$12,000 plus $4,000 plus $200 plus $675 for a total of $16,875. That’s the cost for a 2007 Saturn Aura with 65,000 miles on it and no warranty. I hate you GM. I will never buy one of your cars ever again. Tell everyone you know!

My 2006 Saturn Ion, the money pit - Well I dont know how car companies know but just after I hit my 60k mark, the car starts to fall apart. So far my issues have been: 2x key getting stuck in the ignition; 2x bearings for the axle have been replaced; 1x fuel pump went bad, its starting to go bad again; and 1x interior light won’t turn off. Currently, my car leaks when it rains and I guess this triggers the alarm to go off randomly. And finally, my transmission won’t let me go into 5th gear. This repair will cost about $2,400. I have finally had enough. Im getting a new car and it definitely won’t be a GM.

I am on my third Saturn. I dont have an Ion. I have a 2007 VUE. I owned two other cars prior to this. My first two Saturns, within the warranty period, had to have the ignition replaced because they jammed and I couldnt turn the key to start the car. My VUE made it past the warranty period, but now is jamming up the same way. Another quirk: I can start the car and pull the key out and drive without the key in. I have to be careful to turn the ignition all the way to off before I pull the key out or the battery will die if the radio or something else is left on. I fully expect, based upon my experience today of trying for about 10 minutes to unlock the ignition and turn the key, that there will soon come a point where I cant start it and will have to pay loads to have the ignition replaced. Yes, three Saturns...same problem. If GM wanted to really be about customer service, they would acknowledge this issue.
