I am the only owner. I bought my SUV new. I only have 56,000 miles and I now need a new transmission which will cost $3,000. I maintain my vehicle with a local mechanic/receive my car maintenance there. Oil changes every 3,000 miles. The mechanic states he is surprised I need this new transmission at such low miles. I got a second opinion at a specialty transmission service garage and reverse and 1st and 2nd gears are completely damaged as my mechanic diagnosed. I have been instructed not to drive it. I have liked my Saturn but now I am upset.
I wanted to reply to Patricia of Signal Mountain, TN on June 25, 2014 specifically. Unfortunately the dealer and auto body shop you visited seem to be unaware of this particular issue that has affected many saturn customers. I bought a 2003 saturn ion brand new and 6 months later had my first issue with the car not starting. It wasnt a dead battery, or any other issue. It just would not start. I could go try again an hour later and the car would start.My ignition switch was replaced twice under warranty and it needs to be fixed again. The problem is something in the faulty wiring that trips a security message in the computer of the car that will not allow it to start. I recommend that you look it up online (google, youtube, saturnfans.com). There are countless pages dedicated to the exact issue your daughter is having. When you get a grasp of what the issue is, speak to a trusted mechanic. Let him know what you found out and I am sure they will be able to help. The solution is often as easy as a $25 ignition switch replacement.
I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook. I am now having problems with the ignition. Sometimes the key will come out on its own but sometimes it gets stuck. I have to drive backwards and forward to get the key to come out. My husband drove it one day and he said that the key got stuck, he disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the key came out. Im seeing a lot of complaints about GM vehicles doing this. Some people say its the Body Control Module and its not covered under warranty after 36k miles. Some have their ignitions and others parts replaced but the problems with the key getting stuck comes back. Its time consuming and costly and GM needs to fix this. Why should consumers have to pay for a manufacturers defect?
I have a 2005 Saturn; the ignition will not shut off. I have read all the other reports on here, and feel something should be done about this on going problem. My wife called me at work telling me that she could not turn the key to shut the car off. I had to call a friend; have him come over and pull the fuse, and disconnect the battery. Now we are short one car until I can fix this.
I had my car fixed when recalled. Yesterday my car would not start and the key is stuck in the ignition. I charged the battery got key out. Today car is dead again. I just bought new battery early this year. I am afraid to go out as even though repaired the key gets stuck and battery dies. It is like ignition never shuts car off completely! I want a new replacement car. This thing has been to shop way too many times.
We have nothing but problems with our 2003 Saturn Vue. We did buy it used. We have had to replace both catalytic converters to the tune of $2400 (parts only) back in 2010. We have had to replace the oxygen sensors every 2 years. Just this past April, when the check engine light came on and once again to the mechanic, we had to shell out another $800 to replace the front catalytic converter (this was discounted due to having just replaced it 2 years ago; otherwise, it would have been doubled). Now, after replacing the gas cap for a third time because it loosens up and the engine light is still on, we have had a certified GM mechanic do all the work and he checks every time to make sure that there has not been a better fix. I am amazed, after reading all the issues that GM has not stepped up and try to restore consumers faith in their ability to fix cars, that nothing has been done. Currently, looking for a new car but I can tell you it will not be through GM since they have yet to fix the issues and their record on Saturns is proving that they are more concerned with selling more of their cars instead of fixing the current ones out there.
I bought a 2006 Saturn ion. It was really torn up but I was told it ran great. The cost to repair has been costly. Since they dont make this car any longer the parts are a little harder to find. I have only just begun repairs and $2000 is just the tip of the ice cap. I still have 6 payments left and several thousands left in repairs. Drive and look before you buy.
Integrity of repair quote and overall dissatisfaction: Im writing you (Mr. James) this morning to voice my frustration and overall disappointment with my service experience at your dealership. My family relocated to the area in spring of 2011 from Washington State and is the owner of a 2007 Saturn Outlook, which up until this past year, has been a reliable GM product. My wife went online to research which dealership in the area would be convenient to our residence in Anaheim Hills and also provide a level of service commensurate with the GM brand. She settled on Simpson of Buena Park.Our first encounter with your service department involved dealings with James, a service adviser at your location. We brought our vehicle in with just over 73k miles for an oil change, several leaks which we noticed, and air conditioning service. During the inspection, several serious powertrain defects were identified up to and including seals which needed to be replaced, sealant and coolant leaks timing chain and gasket repairs, drive shaft repairs, service engine light illumination which resulted in cam shaft end play shims replacement, water pump replacement, etc. While a majority of these items were under warranty, there was still $373 out-of-pocket expense. We left confident that any long-term serious issue was averted due to a very extensive inspection.In June of this year, we took the same vehicle back in to your dealership for service as another leak was noticed as well as a power steering noise. After inspection and an additional $615, we picked the car up with presumably everything in working order. August 9 of this year, less than 2 months after bringing the car in, the engine light came on and there was hesitation upon acceleration. Mr. Jose was the service adviser who assisted. That afternoon when I called to check on the status of the vehicle, I was informed that the vehicle needed a new engine! Luckily, we purchased an extended warranty when we purchased the vehicle off a lease in 2010.My specific frustrations are: 1) How could such a major defect not be noticed and identified by your service department just 2 months prior? 2) How often are GM vehicles with just 87k miles required to replace an engine? 3) My dealings with the first 2 service advisers (Mr. James and Mr. Jose), while expensive, were pleasant. My current dealing with Mr. Ted has been just the opposite. The fact that he stepped in while Mr. Jose has been away on holiday has proven to be stressful and impossible to get any information regarding the update and status of the vehicle. Hes now informing me that even with the extended warranty and a $100 deductible, Im still looking at between $500 and $600 out-of-pocket expense!Mr. James, to say that our trust in GM workmanship and quality has been diminished would be a gross understatement. The fact that Im being told that we have to pay even more money to repair what appears to be a GM defective product is insulting. I question the integrity of Mr. Teds actions, as the warranty company would not authorize a new motor at the suggestion/advice of Mr. Ted and hes passing some of those costs on to us. I would appreciate your review of this and any assistance you can offer. At this point, Im thoroughly disappointed not only in the decision to purchase a GM product in the first place but also on the decision on where it should be serviced. I will also be contacting GM World headquarterss Consumer Affairs department in Detroit. Thank you for your time.
I had my ignition switch repaired on my Saturn Ion 2, 3 times already and continue to have problems with key getting stuck in the ignition. Spoke to Cruz Chevrolet today and he is telling me he thinks it is the automatic shifter causing the problem. My warranty just ran out in July 2014 and I told the dealership about this problem a few years ago as well as in June 2014 and July 2014. I am so frustrated. Have to bring car to dealership in 2 days.
Saturn aura xr v6 3.5L issues - At 90k miles, check engine light came on after an oil change. Service traction comes on along with check engine light when stopping, it does this intermittently. After changing spark plugs, water pump, power steering pump that leaked, cylinder 6 ignition coil, the issues are still there.
I have a 2004 Saturn Ion I purchased new. I am on my third try fixing the ignition. I had worked on it in August 2011, June 2012 and now. The dealership has replaced twice in two days the ignition housing, switch and other things; and it still will not work. I have been working on spending $2,000 on this issue. Twice, I could not turn the key and had it towed, and once, it would not shut off.
Last night after stopping at a local store, I attempted to turn my 2006 Saturn Ion off. The key would not move backwards and therefore, I could not remove it from the ignition slot. Obviously, I was unable to turn the car off. Since it was about 6:30 when this happened, I tried a couple of auto parts stores, but they found the problem strange. Finally, I drove it to a certified dealership for them to keep overnight. Today I found out that the key, cylinder, and housing would need to be replaced for $650.00! I am the only one earning money for my kids and myself. The consequence is that I do not feel I can afford a new car, so I am stuck paying for a problem that perhaps should be officially recalled. I can tell from this website that I am not the only one with the problem.
I was glad to see I was not the only person with this problem. My car is a 2006 Saturn Ion with 46,000 miles on it. Sometimes when you shut the car off, the key will not come out of the ignition switch. I replaced the ignition switch and it still does it. Thats why my other car is a Toyota!
I drive a 2006 Saturn Ion that I purchased 3 years ago. It has 54,000 miles on it. Two weeks ago, it developed transmission problems to the tune of $3000. Whats maddening is that there doesnt seem to be any recourse. Im still making payments. Im fearful that I have more problems ahead. Is there anything that can be done?
SATURN ION 2007 IGNITION SWITCH - Ignition switch was stuck in run position; would not turn off cars engine. Roadside service disconnected battery. Dealer replaced switch for $318...OUT OF MY POCKET, OUCH!
I noticed about a year ago that my ignition would stay on after I removed my key from the slot. I thought this was odd, but not a problem since if I turned to the off position the motor would cut as it should. In December of this year, and again in February as I drove my car along very busy streets it turned off. The wheel froze, nothing worked as I pulled the car to the right with all of my strength. I managed to coast to the side of the road and restart my car. Both times I assumed that I had somehow hit or pulled my key. Ive since (about 10 days ago) received a recall notice in the mail. I urge anyone who knows someone with such a car to take it to a repair shop as soon as possible. My experience was quite scary and potentially dangerous.
My 2006 Saturn Ion, the money pit - Well I dont know how car companies know but just after I hit my 60k mark, the car starts to fall apart. So far my issues have been: 2x key getting stuck in the ignition; 2x bearings for the axle have been replaced; 1x fuel pump went bad, its starting to go bad again; and 1x interior light won’t turn off. Currently, my car leaks when it rains and I guess this triggers the alarm to go off randomly. And finally, my transmission won’t let me go into 5th gear. This repair will cost about $2,400. I have finally had enough. Im getting a new car and it definitely won’t be a GM.
I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.
The ignition does not turn all the way off sometimes and makes for a long shopping day with 10 min breaks, waiting for the key to switch off auxiliary. I really hope there is a recall on this soon because Im not sticking a thousand dollars into this car, especially when a lot of people are saying this will only fix the problem for a while.
Christmas Day 2014 will go down as a bummer day. Car had just passed 100,600 miles just in the past few days. Well, Christmas Morning my 2008 Aura XE V6, which had never really given me any problems with the exception of some minor problems with all the door lock and some other minor problems, decided to have transmission problems and stopped working. I was driving and all of a sudden found a strange noise and immediately parked the car. I at least made it to my brothers house and was able unloaded the Christmas presents. But when I tried to back up the transmission would not function, any gear I put it in, and it did not work. Eventually I was able to get assistance from family, and was able to get it into neutral and push the car down the driveway. At this point no engine light had come on or any warning of a problem at all. The car would not change gears normally. I then was able to park the car for a bit and then find someone to follow me to the dealer in Southern California. The Authorized Saturn Service Provider I have taken the car to for years. They called me back two days later and came back with a $3800 price tag for a new transmission replacement option. I was given by my brother a note that he had read of a recall on a Saturn Cabling problem with a transmission, but when I put my VIN number on the GM Site to check for recalls it did not appear. Well, my alternatives are slim to none, when it comes to the replacement as I have investigated other places to do the work and they tell me that there is a part that needs replacing and it alone is $1200.00 all by itself. I have always been a strong supporter of Saturn products in the past. Have had 3 Saturn vehicles over the years and have held them for at least 4-5 years each. This one was a doozy. I just want to let anyone out their know that if you have similar problems it is a costly one and probably not worth fixing. I plan on seeing if there are any other remedies I can pursue with whatever agency regulates car mfg. A very disappointed Saturn owner. Also, I cant believe this was not a safety concern for V6 vehicles.
My 2008 Saturn Aura trans just went out today. The check engine light came on this morning, and during my drive to have it looked at, the car just started to speed up and back down so I pulled over. I called AAA and they could not even get the car to go into reverse. I called GM; I was told to take it into a GM dealership and now Im wondering if I am going to be out of a lot of money after reading the known issues. GM states my warranty ended 4 months ago, but I never received anything in the mail.
I have the same problem. I just had the recall from GM done on my 03 Saturn Ion today. They replaced the switch and ignition lock cylinder because of cars going dead because the ignition switch turned off easily with a little weight on the key ring. Accidents occurred and they were sued. This was not for and did not fix the problem of the key not turning all the way off without reaching underneath and pressing the solenoid plunger which feels like a switch (They said nothing when replacing the new switch if this ever happened then). I did not inform them of the problem either.I just found a fairly new video on YouTube that concerns this very problem. Watch the video. Long story short, the shifter micro-switch is not engaging either because of a bad switch or a bad placement fit of the switch to where the plunger of the switch is not being depressed as to close the switch and therefore allow voltage to be applied to the ignition switch solenoid, freeing the cylinder to turn off. Our 2009 Saturn Outlook ONLY has 53,000 miles on it. The 100,000 mile warranty was up because we have just barely had our vehicle 5 years. We have taken it to the same dealer for the life of the car, and taken very good care of it. I was driving to work the other day and my power steering and transmission completely went out. I almost lost control of the vehicle several times. It started when I was at a stoplight, when I pressed the gas to accelerate once it turned green, then my car lurched forward but only revved up. I made it work and then it wouldnt go in reverse at all!. I had it towed to a trusted mechanic. He told us it was indeed the transmission and power-steering but also that the rack and pinion broke. We had our car to the dealer several times for the whining noise to be fixed but they only ever told me they didnt hear the noise. I called GM, who told us to have it towed to a certified GM dealer and that the power steering should have been under a special coverage warranty. Turns out GM was sued and lost in court because of the power steering. The dealer then refused to diagnose my car without us paying them a $1,000 up front. I told them it had already been diagnosed, and if this was covered under their special warranty, then why on earth should I have to pay this large amount of money up front. The service manager told me he did NOT believe that our problem was covered under this special warranty and that the transmission doesnt go out because of the power steering. He said one doesnt have anything to do with the other. Well funny, then how they both went out at the exact same time. I went round and round with both the dealer and GM and neither of them want to take responsibility for what has happened. Especially considering we have documented proof (the dealer has it in their computers) that we had our car to them multiple times to have THIS exact issue fixed. I believe it is time to get another law suit started. GM needs to fix their faulty vehicles BEFORE someone gets severely hurt or dies! We had it towed a 3rd time to be taken care of by our mechanic since the dealer refused to diagnose our vehicle. Do not ever trust GM or their Certified dealers, all they care about is lining their pockets.
Wow, I must not get out much. I had no idea that every other Saturn owner was experiencing the same ignition switch problem! What the ****! Mine was replaced by a Saturn dealer a couple of years ago and now experiencing the same problem again. My windows no longer go down. My power steering is out. I think I purchased an overpriced, plastic Barbie car!
2007 Ion key problem - Ever since I brought my car in for power steering recall, I have had a problem with getting the key out. I brought it back three times. They replaced something in the shifter, then claimed I wasnt putting it all the way in park. Really? They replaced the ignition switch and the keys. I still have a problem. I find if I have my steering wheel turned just right, it relieves pressure and I can get it out. You can often see me moving from parking spot to parking spot trying to get my wheel just right. Another Saturn owner told me there is a button release under the steering wheel behind a trap door that I can press to release the key. I have yet to do that. I am not a happy camper.
My wifes 2008 Saturn Vue has 65000 miles on it. Less than a year out of warranty and without warning, the transmission started to slip. I was told by the transmission repair shop that the transmission would need to be repaired at a cost of $3000.00. The shop said there is a snap ring in these transmissions that is a common point of failure. I would estimate this is a $20.00 part at best. Why would GM continue to put cars on the market when they know there are issues with them? It appears this issue has been know about since at least 2005 and continues to 2010 based on my internet research. I feel GM has a responsibility to current Saturn owners and should recall these vehicles and make all those that have already failed eligible for restitution. I have been a lifelong GM owner but I have to say this one may be my last. If you are thinking about buying GM, I say stay away from them.
I was driving my VUE on the feeder road of the freeway when I came to the stop sign and as I began to take off my engine just revved up and would not go. I put it in park and turned the car off and it started up fine but when I tried to put in drive it just wouldnt move. I then had it towed to a mechanic shop and they looked at it and said it needed a new transmission which would be about 5,000. I took it to several shops and they all basically said the same thing. I was told by this one shop here in Houston, TX that there was a lawsuit against GM and I would have to pay for the repairs upfront but that GM would reimburse me. So I did a little research and I have seen several blogs on this subject but I guess I didnt do enough. I paid the repair shop $4900.00 to fix the transmission and still it doesnt run right. I have had to take it back to them 2 times for them to fix the transmission. GM should pay for the repair costs and there shouldnt be a time limit when we could have filed a claim. Im sure there are more Saturn cars that will be having the same problem in the future and were going to be stuck paying more for repairs than the car is probably worth.
Both my 2007 Saturn Vue as well as my Saturn Ion have the same problem - the ignition locks up and the cars both will not start. From reading online, I am surprised that this has not been recalled. I mean, it is the same on both vehicles. I feel that GM should check and fix these cars - especially today. I am at work with a Saturn Ion that will not start back up and a Vue at home that wont start with two small children.
Key would not come out of the ignition. Could not shut car off and ran into the same issue. When I spoke with GM, they had never heard of this problem. After giving them my VIN #, I was told there were 2 to 3 recalls for my car but nothing for the ignition problem. The person from GM then got a GM dealer from Austin on the phone with me who proceeded to tell me if I bring it in for $115 they will hook it up to figure out what was wrong. I have got an estimate for approx $400 to fix it. I was told the ignition was about $60 but if the housing is bad that adds another $160, $50 for a new key and programming. Besides the fact that they have to be replaced with the same defective GM parts and that it can happen again at any time.
I purchased a 2008 Saturn Vue on 7/7. A month and a half later, the issues began. On 9/2, I started seeing smoke coming out of the vents with a strong coolant smell as if the antifreeze was burning. There was also an oily film on the windshield. I thought that it would go away but it continued the following day and the day after. It worsens if the air is turned on.Not even two months after purchase, my vehicle took its first trip to my privately owned auto shop. I was told by the mechanic that the hose for heating and air conditioning needed to be cleared out for any blockage. The vehicle was fine for a day or two and the same issue occurred. On 9/9, I returned to the shop and the hose was checked. There was no smoke or vapor from the vents or oily film on the windshield for two days.I called Saturn customer service to report this issue. They took all of my information and told me to take it to a GM dealer. I made an appointment with Mike Anderson, a GM certified dealer in Merrillville, Indiana. I was told that I will be charged $79.95 for each problem or complaint. On 9/16, I took the vehicle back for a different diagnosis and was told that the heater core needed to be replaced due to a fracture causing the antifreeze to leak. The antifreeze or coolant drips on the engine causing a vapor or mist to blow through the vents, causing an oily film on the windshield.On 9/21, my vehicle was dead. It wouldnt start at all. Yes! A vehicle that wasnt even three months old had a dead battery, I assumed. I used jumper cables to revive it. On 9/23, I took it to the GM dealer to be told by Joshua ** in customer service that the diagnosis is a fracture in the heater core and the entire part need to be replaced. In order to perform this repair, the entire dashboard had to be removed. Also, the battery was very weak. Joshua quoted me $1,600.00 plus $79.95 for the diagnosis. Who has that kind of money these days? Joshua attempted to bring me the vehicle and the vehicle was dead again. He used jumper cables and drove it for about five minutes and delivered it to me.I called Saturn customer service back and gave Julie more information on the diagnosis and the cost. She asked for my private auto shop that I use normally and I gave that information also. She worded the complaint as seeking reimbursement for repairs and gave me the misunderstanding that I could take it to my privately owned auto shop.I got a return call two days later only to be told that I should have taken it back to the GM dealer for repairs because they reduced the cost. What a disappointment! Why wasnt I told that in the first place by Red at customer service when I called on 9/9 or Julie when I called on 9/26? In the future, customers should be told not to take their vehicles to an outside shop because assistance cannot be given.
Four months after my warranty expired, my transmission died. I will never buy a Saturn again. This car should be recalled.
We used my 2006 Saturn Ion to go to the store and the key wouldnt turn car off. I called Saturn roadside assistance and they said they could only tow me to the dealer. There is no recall and I would have to pay for the tow & repairs.
Last year, my key got stuck in the ignition and I paid $800.00 dollars to have a new ignition in Aug 2010. Now, Im having the same problem again. I brought it to the dealer who said that there was no problem. They lubricated the ignition and the key came out.Now, two weeks later, Im encountering the same problem. I cannot believe that there is no recall on this. I refuse to keep paying for the same ** problem. Apparently, I was not the only consumer with this problem with the 2007 Saturn Ion. It was crazy and expensive to keep repairing it. The dealer informed me that the part has a one-year warranty. Either the U.S. makes crappy parts or there is a major issue with this.
I have a 2003 Saturn Vue, which I purchased used in 2009. The transmission went out in 09 and I had to replace it. GM would only do 50/50 so I had to come up with over $2000 myself. I am now having problems with it again. It needs another replacement and I was told that the warranty on the first transmission was for 12,000 miles or one year so GM will not help with replacement. The only thing GM will do is give a small credit towards a new GM vehicle.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe. I had issues off and on for a couple years from miles 50,000 - 90,000. Currently at 105,000 miles and the last 15,000 miles, the ignition stops at ACC and is locked every single time I turn off the car. I wait and hope every time that my key will come out, but held hostage by the lockout until a miracle occurs and the ignition releases the key without rhyme or reason. Sometimes this takes 1 - 10 minutes. Makes it difficult to valet or go anywhere with friends!
For this past year, I have been battling with my 2004 Ion. First, it started with having a hard time starting in colder mornings. Then it took longer and longer to get it going. Finally, I took it in and spent $1,000 for a new timing belt and it was fine for a short while. I took it in again and spent another grand on a new ignition. Within 48 hours of that service, my key has gotten stuck in the ignition and would not allow the car to be turned off. After reading about all these other people suffering for something that is not our fault is complete **. This has convinced me to not ever buy a GM product again. I thought I was doing the right thing by buying an American product to support jobs but this is horrible.
I bought a GM Certified 2007 Saturn Aura in November of 2008. The vehicle had 14,500 miles on it when I purchased it. The car fax said there were no problems, other than a minor gasket, which was replaced at about 5,000 miles. I immediately went into the dealership for wheel imbalance problems, that the dealership never did satisfactorily fix. My own mechanic later told me he found a bent rim on one wheel right away, when he replaced the tires. The brake pads broke at 15,000 miles, and the seat back airbag housing fell apart at 16,000 miles (no one sits in my back seat). Both door speakers were replaced by 16,000 miles, and I am not a teenager. It was in the shop for steering noise and vibration problems, on three separate times. The new oil pan gasket was done at 16,500 miles. The washer fluid pump failed at 37,000 miles, and the final problem after 4 years at 45,000 miles, the head gasket failed. Most of these things were taken care of under warranty, but the sheer time it takes to wade through all of these problems is not worth it to drive American.I am a GM brat, and this will be the last vehicle that I purchase from them. This is the worst vehicle that I have had, since my 1984 Renault Alliance. I owe more than the dumb thing is worth, so I have no choice but to keep my fingers crossed, and hope that it lasts until I pay it off. 2007 was the first model year for the Aura, but GM had been making the Opel equivalent for at least two years before. You think they would have worked the bugs out, before they brought it to the US.
I bought a brand new 2006 Saturn ION. Yesterday, the key decided to get stuck in the ignition. I couldnt twist it out so I eventually ended up yanking it out. I had to disconnect the battery so it wouldnt deplete as well.
There was a funny smell in the car then the battery light went on. I called my mechanic and he told me to shut all heaters, radio and lights off in the car. I was about 25 km away from him. Fortunately, I made it to the mechanic without having to call a tow truck.
New engine at 106,000. We just bought the Saturn 2008 Outlook at 76,000 less than 2 years ago. We have already put in $600 in fixes, and now we found out the engine needs to be replaced for $5000. This car has been a total lemon. Researching the v6 3.6 lt engine we have found out that it is a piece of junk.
I have had my 2007 Saturn Ion for 1.5 years. It only have 30K miles on it. I have had to replace the ignition key holder thing because the key got stuck in the ignition and the car couldnt turn off. Now, Im starting to have power steering issues. The power steering was shut off on two separate occasions while driving.The ignition system put me back $750. Luckily both times I wasnt on the open road when the power steering shut off (residential area the 1st time, parking lot the second time), so I was able to maneuver to a stop. Turning the car off and back on made the steering come back...but for how long? I doubt Ill be lucky everytime. Guess I better keep lifting weights until I can get this fixed.
I purchased a 2007 Aura, and was told it was recently serviced after two weeks. I was told that the struts were shot in it, and its in need of new tires. I also had to change the brakes right away. The total cost would exceed $1,000.00. I was told by the dealership that the car was in great condition, nothing wrong with it. And the warning light that was on was an indication of low tire pressure. That light stayed on even after air was put into the tires.
Purchased a pre-owned low mileage Sky and I absolutely love this car and wish that GM would return this to production. I would love to see this car returned to production. It is economical, comfortable and fun to drive. It is also in the lower cost class of convertibles.
My wife was on errands with the kids in our 2007 Saturn Outlook, which she loves. Well, it just stopped moving. She couldnt put it in forward or reverse. She called a friend to get it towed to his service shop. At the shop, he got it to move a little, then it stopped again. He said he recently had an Acadia, in which a part in the transmission broke and shredded the gears and got into all the innards. As it cost about $3500 to repair, he suggested that we call GM to see if they can help out with it.I found a number and spoke with Heather, who was great, calling me back every step of the way. She put me on the line with Denny, the head mechanic for Matthews Auto Group where we bought the vehicle and where we have the Outlook serviced. We spoke of the incident when it stopped working and he said he would get to it in a few days, which I said was okay. He didnt remember but we spoke before this when the vehicle was brought in for the timing chain recall. It took four times to get it right, but Matthews treated my wife so nice; we felt comfortable with them. So this time, we called OnStar and had it towed to Matthews so Denny could look at it. When he called back, he said that it was a broken wave plate in the transmission, and in a roundabout way agreed that it may cost what the other mechanic said, about $3500.On calling my friend, the mechanic, for an explanation, he said that the wave plate is a cheap $20 part that is known to crack and destroy the transmission. He had called a friend at Country Club Auto who said that he works on an average of 2 GM transmissions per week between Outlook, Acadia, and Traverse. The Matthews customer service rep called the next day and said that they drained some fluid and found metal shavings. I asked how the mechanic diagnosed the problem as a bad wave plate if he didnt open it up? The customer service rep said he had an offer from the district supervisor of GM, to give us $3000 off a new vehicle or split the cost of repair 50/50, approximately $1750 plus tax, our cost.When asked for a breakdown of the cost of services and materials, he got uptight and refused, stating only that the transmission would come out of the box and into the vehicle and the fluid would be added. The old transmission would go into the box and sent back to GM. It was then presented as a one time offer, take it or leave it. I said that I was disappointed in GM for not doing the right thing. This is a known problem with Outlook, Acadia, and Traverse. Its all over the internet. I went on to say that the tow truck operator for OnStar that picked up the vehicle said, Oh, an Outlook. Transmission, right? Ive been picking up a lot of those lately and Acadias and Traverses.I also said to the rep that we were totally surprised by the breakdown since the last OnStar Diagnostic report that we got stated, based on our diagnostics check on 08/19/2012, all systems are normal. Diagnostic: Complete. No action needed. Four days later, my wife and kids are stranded on the roadside.The rep repeated that the offer was a one time offer, one that he did not have to give since the vehicle was five months out of warranty. If it did not make me happy, then he would save the money to make someone else happy. I honestly said that of course I am not happy with having to spend $1800 for a new transmission that only has 73,000 miles on it (27,000 miles under warranty limit). He seemed to be a little taken aback by my knowledge of the wave plate issue with these transmissions, how a $20 part could self-destruct and wreak havoc with the transmissions. Take it or leave it, was the answer. That is all the GM district manager was authorized to offer. I would get back to him.The next day, a GM rep named Keith called to offer the same, but more politely. As a lifetime customer of GM vehicles, I repeated my disappointment in GM, but said that I would get back to him. He asked if I would like to file a complaint with GM. I said, No, but I would like to file a complaint against the Matthews rep. The next day Keith, the GM rep, called and asked of my intentions, and I said, I guess that I would take the 50/50. He left off saying that he would get going on making it happen.The following day I missed a call on the cell phone that I thought was the Matthews customer service guy so I called him. He said, No it wasnt him. I said, Well, youve got me by the balls (pardon me) so I guess I am taking the 50/50 offer. He replied that it was rescinded. I got off the phone with him and called Keith, the GM service guy, to ask about it but he was not in. The next day Keith reversed himself and said that indeed the offer was revoked. I asked if there were anyone else that I can speak to. He said he would have his manager call me. The next day a curtly speaking person called to say that they are not willing to budge on their decision. This is not the customer service that I have come to enjoy and depend on for my family from GM and the Matthews Auto Group. What can be done?
Saturn Outlook 2008 - The car turns off while driving. I am a mother with 4 kids and I am driving all over the places. This is my second time that I am driving with my kids the car turns off. Im terrified I will get in an accident with my kids in the car. I call to GM and and I ask whats wrong with my car? GM service department told me that I need to change my ignition... OMG!! IGNITION??? I am a AUTOMOBILE LOCKSMITH and the problem is not IGNITION.
My fiance has a 2002 Saturn SC2 with low mileage (43,891). I just went outside to check the mileage in order to submit this complaint like so many others and now the key will not come out. The motor turns off but will not release the key. Here is the real safety issue. I can pull the shifter from park through all of the gears without stepping on the brake petal! The car is parked on a hill and anyone can pull the shifter and let it roll down the hill! The problem has just recently started to exist since the temperature has gone below about 40 degrees. The car was in like showroom condition when purchased about 3 years ago.
Before the recall, I had the ignition problem. My key got stuck in the ignition and wouldnt shut off. I finally pulled the fuel fuse to get it to shut down. I went to a repair shop to get it fixed and they had to replace the steering column as well as the ignition and this left me with only one key because they could not remove it and it broke. The recall came out and the new part was ordered and after several hours of waiting, my vehicle was repaired. I was told by Saturn that I could be reimbursed for the money I put out for the original repair. They wouldnt reimburse me for the steering column. After trying for several days to get reimbursement (with all invoices submitted as well as phone numbers and name of original mechanic) for an issue that was no fault of mine but certainly Saturns bad parts, I finally accepted the minimal amount of money THEY said was due to me. Im still very upset that after all theyve paid out due to their own negligence and bad parts, they arent fairly reimbursing. I will continue as often as I can to give bad reviews on this company. Ill also tell everyone I can by word of mouth that Saturn is a terrible company and is only out for themselves NOT the consumer. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF PURCHASING A SATURN USED OR OTHERWISE!!
I bought my 2003 Saturn L200 in July of 2009 with only 31,000 miles on it. It was great for two years, until the Summer of 2011 when the odometer started spinning out of control. It added 50,000+ miles on it in a short time. It costs $1400 to fix the BCM (body control module) and took a month to fix. The dealer had to backorder the part. Now, my fuel pump has died repeatedly, leaving me stranded multiple times. The fuel pump at OReilly Auto Parts costs $350 and this was the cheapest price by far. Its currently at the mechanic for the third time and he is stumped. After the car died the second time, we figured we got a bad fuel pump. But somehow it is not getting power to the fuel pump. I was promised the GM would continue to uphold Saturns level of service. All Ive seen are expensive parts and time-consuming repairs. I will never buy a GM product again.
I had this problem several years ago - after 4 trips to the dealer and replaced starter, it turned out car wasnt recognizing that is was in PARK and therefore would not let me shut car off. Dealer finally fixed the problem. This was 100% fixed after they addressed the gear shift P vs D issue
My Saturn was purchased used with 49k on it at a Saturn dealership as a certified pre-owned vehicle. That was 13.5 years ago in 2000, to now currently Aug 2014. I have replace brakes in it twice on the front, once on the rear. I forgot how many sets of tires I have had on it. At 90k I put on a new set of struts totally making the ride awesome and feeling like a new car. I have hit 2 deer and 1 deer has ran into the side of the car. The deer collisions I was able to almost stop before hitting them. The shroud that runs under the car for the A/C cooling is now gone because of that. The result is that the A/C does not work super great unless the car is moving in a forward motion. Just sitting in the hot sun at idle with the cooling fan running though the A/C will blow out the vents at about 47 deg. F. It goes down to 40 deg. while rolling down the road. To me this is satisfactory as I dont sit idle for long. Also during the deer collisions the A/C condenser was bent so it almost touches the radiator, it did not leak so Im not messing with it. I installed an hour meter into the vehicle and change my oil every 125 hours. This usually works out to about 3200-4700 miles. It started to use a quart of oil about every oil change when the car had about 165k on it. I then switched from Castrol conventional oil to Castrol High Mileage. Now it uses about a 1/4 quart every oil change. I have noticed that it uses more oil in town than if I cruise down the highway. Also most of the miles I have put on the car are highway miles. I flushed/replaced coolant, replaced the outer tie rod ends not because of wear but because the rubber seal started to crack at 182k. I have had to put on a new catalytic converter at about 88k, replaced the muffler and rear pipe section at 182k. Replace manual trans fluid at 100k and at 182k. Have replace the fuel filter 2 times (should have done this more often). It has 30k on the newest filter so will change it soon. I replace the air filter about every 15k depending on the roads I drive on. Everyone I know says to give them my old air filter because I change them so often. I dont mind, I believe that a good supply of air is the key to the 37-42 mpg on hwy and 27-30 mpg city. Saturn of SLC said the ECTS had to be replaced when the car was replaced at 88k. I have had to replace it one additional time at 160k. When it is really cold outside the engine will idle high when stopping until sitting for a few seconds. Im not replacing the ECTS again as I think this is a normal Saturn thing at really cold temperatures. Also while at Saturn of SLC, they told me that my fuel pump was bad and would replace it for $800. All that is wrong is the check valve is bad. If the key is turned to run then wait about 5 seconds, the fuel pump will bring the system up to pressure and the car starts great. Only problems I have is if someone else uses my car, they get in and turn the key to start right away and it cranks but does not start because of the lack of fuel. To me this is not an issue as every vehicle I have ever owned I turn the key to run, listen for the fuel pump to stop then start. So to save $800 all one has to do is this. 1 get into vehicle, 2 insert key and turn to run, 3 fasten seat belt, 4 start the vehicle. It will be up to pressure by time the seat belt is put on. Oh, and one more thing, the windshield in this car is awesome. I have had some large size rocks fall off trucks and hit the window directly. The angle is just right that they bounce over the car. Mine is pitted from many miles of highway driving but still satisfactory. The other day 205k, it was really hot in the car. I went to shift into reverse, the plastic shifter bushing broke. I was told this usually breaks around 70k so I carried an extra in the glove box. It is made by Dorman ($4). Also the other day my A/C evaporator drain plugged up 205k, easy fix, take an ink pen and stick it in the drain hole, the system drains fine now. That sums up the history of my Saturn for the 157k that I have owned it.I have also owned a 1991 Saturn SL1 Manual trans had an alternator issue at around 7k and was covered by warranty/recall. The starter went bad at 12k. Changed the oil every 3000 miles then at 64k the ex took it in the divorce. No known other issues. A 2004 ION3 Coupe Auto trans. Had a power module go bad at 65k. Dont remember the resolution. Lost the car to another ex. Moms car, a 1998 Saturn SL1, clutch master cyl went bad at 118k. No other known issues. She gave it to brother and he sold it because money burns hole in his pockets.Moms car, a 2001 Saturn SC2 manual trans - she changes oil when the dash light tells her to. I did replace the trans fluid for her in it. Around 50k starter went bad. Re-manufactured started installed and that one went bad at 88k. Replaced again under starter warranty oreilly auto parts. Replaced and brother has the car. He called and said there is a exhaust leak around exhaust manifold 93k. I have not looked at it but to me this is a minor issue. Note, this car has almost all miles city driving to the bank or store and back which are VERY HARD on the car. I hope that I helped someone out with this review.
Its the same for me. I own a 2006 Saturn Ion where the ignition locked, and I couldnt stop my car. The only way to stop it was to stall it. It was 11 pm. No garage is open at that time. I made a complaint to GM. They called me and said to go to a dealer to see if its not related to the power steering because they have a recall on that and of course at my own expense. I already know that its not so its going to cost me over $100 just to confirm that sorry, its not related to that. They told me to call us back if its not and well see if we can help you. Im a single mom, I dont have $600 to get my car fixed because after reading all the reviews, it seem to be a very expensive repair. So please go on GM/Saturn and make a complaint. Maybe they will make recalls about it if everyone makes them aware of the problems because at first I called a few dealers and they all seem to be very surprised at this problem. No one has ever heard about this kind of problem.
As read in all of the other reviews, I am both happy and sad. Happy to see that I am not the only one with this issue and sad to see that GM has not done anything about it! So my key also gets stuck when I am trying to turn off my car. I did notice that if you wait patiently, you will eventually hear a little click sound. When you hear that sound, then the key will come out. Well it does it on my car. I am not sure if it does it on all but if you hear the click once, you will know what to look for. I have a new problem now. I parked my car in my driveway last night then went back into the car to run to the store and I am having the opposite problem. I turn the key to start the car and it gets stuck before the car can start. So now I cannot start the car! I was looking to see if there were any recalls and I found hundreds of complaints. I saw another writer mention a class action law suit. Perhaps that is the way to go.
I bought my 2006 Saturn Ion with only 30,000 or so miles around this time last year. This past winter, it was constantly not turning on. It would take me about 50+ tries in order for it to start. I took it to several trusted mechanics who couldnt find any problem at all. Now as I am waiting for a potential employer to call me back about a job, I have no vehicle. My transmission just stopped working! The gears change perfectly fine but drive, neutral, and first and second just dont do anything at all. But reverse works perfectly well.
Saturn ion 3 2005 - Key gets stuck, car shuts off when it wants, and steering goes out sometimes. This is a two hand on steering wheel car for sure!! Pretty scary. It awful that some people who have complaints about this car are no longer living human beings. That must have been changing the radio station while making a turn. Remember two hands and hold on tightly!! I no longer drive cars that have internal combustion engines with complex engine starting features, (push button once to engage low power circuit for radio and accessories, push button again to engage high power circuit for electrical traction motor). Simple, no service ever, no transmission, exhaust, sensors, hoses, belts, radiator, water, clutch, etc., no service required. Good luck with those old things.
I purchased an almost new 2008 Saturn Ion. Immediately I experienced mechanical problems. After taking it to the dealership, I found that the key was stuck and the engine wouldnt shut off. In the end, I would need to replace the ignition, the ignition module, etc. to the tune of over $800. I had paid almost $10,000 into payments and havent been able to drive the car for over two years. It just sits collecting dust.
Common problems with Saturns. The L-SERIES timing chain brakes without warning , so if you are an owner always drive next to the side of the road for ease of stop when this happens (only a matter of time) the ION and VUEs have common transmission problems, the S-SERIES have a common leak issue, pretty much if you are a Saturn owner put about $4000 aside because you will need it sooner or later(sorry to say), and say a prayer before you drive that Saturn car always.
My 2003 VUE (3.0) hit the 100K threshold a few months back. I noticed increasing delay in starting, so decided to change out plugs with iridium ones. Ran great following new plug job. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a few trouble codes causing my Check Engine light to come on. First was for Cam Shaft Position Sensor, and second was for low temp sensor. After ruling out fuses, faulty connectors, etc., I decided to replace the Cam Sensor (easy), and thermostat (especially since it had never been done). When I finally finished the job, the car wouldnt start (turned over though). I pulled my hair out for weeks looking for reason for not starting. Had mobile mechanic come out, and could only tell me it sounded like compression loss and/or timing problem. Finally had it towed to shop. Their diagnosis was a skipped timing belt (4 teeth), which caused a few valves to bend etc, etc... Now I am looking at $3000 to $3500 to fix the problem (I hope). I replaced the water pump and timing belt a few ago and drove it without a problem until what I thought was routing thermostat replacement - boy was I wrong. The cost to repair is about $2K less than getting a rebuilt engine, but is still at that grey point between getting work done or not. The optimist in me is hoping for another 100K miles after all is said and done. Not too happy with GM at the moment. Parts cost an arm and leg since Saturn is no longer produced. Hope it works out in the end.
Have a 2006 Saturn Ion 3 with about 58K miles. Loaned it to father-in-law for the weekend. He calls to tell me he cant turn it off. Drives to GM dealer, who pulls fuse to turn off car. Two days later, I get the call that it will cost $600 to fix ignition. How do we get GM to own up to this obvious recall issue with the Saturn ignitions! Any lawyers out there?
I recently purchased a 2007 Saturn Aura XE with roughly 108,000 miles on it. The car drove like a dream for a little over a month. Now its the beginning of April and I was on my way to work this morning and suddenly, my car started jerking. So at a traffic light, I put the car in neutral then back in drive and it gave a hard jerk. Mind you this was at 7:20am. So once I got to work, I called the dealer where I got the car from. At about 11:30am I was en route to take the car to the dealer and noticed it wasnt doing it anymore and nor did it do it on the way home this evening, so well see! Hopefully that was an isolated incident but will keep you posted!
I was running errands yesterday, no problems. Went out last night and when I came home, I could not shut my car off or get the key out of the ignition. Tried to remove a fuse for engine, no luck. Disconnected the battery, no luck. Called roadside assistance from AARP, finally came out about 1:00 am. He did something under the hood and the car did shut off. At least I didnt have to sit up all night till I ran out of gas (3/4 tank full). I just had the gas leak fixed, which was a recall. I had to put out $700 and wait to get reimbursed. Which I had to return to the people I borrowed it from. If this is an on-going problem, I will have to get rid of the car. I am single and 61 and cannot afford to get stuck somewhere with this nightmare.

2006 Saturn Ion got to work and could not shut my car off. I work at a jail so I could not go in and go on the internet to find the closest Saturn dealer, which I find out later is an hour away in Stockton. I took it to the first auto repair I found and it cost almost $700.00 to get it fixed. I am submitting my bill to Saturn, with a formal complaint to get this reimbursed. I see lots and lots of this happening and it should be a recall.
Its one of the best we have ever had. We could not be happier with this vehicle. We got it at a reasonable price. Its very dependable and runs great. Third row is a great option to have. Body is in awesome shape and drives awesome. Seats 7 and its comfy for long or short trips. Like dependability, back heating is great. It has drink holders everywhere. Its just amazing. We love it. It has awesome storage space. Only thing is the headlight drops that could be better could come w/ storage containers for the back.
We finally got our car in for the ignition switch recall and now my key is stuck in the ignition and car is dead. I have had more problems since it was replaced than I had before.
Almost a year ago, the throttle body on my 2005 Saturn Ion became gummed up and I had to take it in for service. The throttle body was not a major fix but once my car was at the shop, it turns out a totally unrelated issue occurred as the ignition switch broke or the shop mechanic broke it and that needed to be replace before they were able to determine that the throttle body was only gummed up, a $50 fix but the ignition switch was $200 plus! And guess what is now acting up? I cant get into the car and turn the ignition switch on the first turn 100% of the time. Mind you, there has been only one key on the key ring since the change last year, as to make sure there was no added stress on the ignition switch. I am going to have to take the car in again for the ignition switch because the problem is getting worse and worse. It seems only a matter of time before I wont be able to turn the ignition switch to start my car. There definitely seems to be a flaw in the ignition switch on the 2005 Saturn Ion. When will there be a recall to correct this and what do we do in the mean time? Keep paying $200 plus?
Saturn 2005 Ion, from neutral, when shifting to drive it engages hard. Also, coolant light on dash comes on after car is idling.
Like everyone else, the ignition lock failed on my 2007 Saturn Ion. Unlike everyone else, I was able to provide a reasonable, to me, solution for free. Simply remove the cover under the steering column. Disconnect the green wiring harness and the car shuts off. When you want to drive again, just plug it back in and turn the key. My car has been running this way for over a year. Good luck.
Never been so disappointed with GM company. By looking at all the reviews look like we are having the same problems with the Saturn Vue. It should have been a recall on all transmissions which GM already knew it was a default in them but they didnt care. I have replaced everything on that Vue except for the transmission. Just happen to be at a traffic like and the truck begin to stall and jerk like it didnt want to move. It jerked all the way going at slow speed. I was able to make it home, had a friend that work on cars take a look at it. He got in, drove it up the street and it did the same thing again. When he pulled back up to my house he gave me the bad news that it was my transmission. Im very upset and I will never purchase a GM again.
My head just might explode!!! We bought our 2008 Saturn from a certified dealer about 3 years ago. The vehicle had just about 30K miles on it at the time. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed that the engine light would come on and the service StabiliTrak light would come on. I obviously brought it back to the dealership, as it was under warranty at that time, and they said they figured out the problem and sent us on our way. Of course, no sooner did I pull out of the shop, and they light came on again. So, back we went...they said they repaired it. Sure enough, it did it again and they eventually came to the conclusion it was just a stupid sensor and everything was actually fine!Fast forward to December 2013 and the POS starts acting up. The transmission light came on and I panicked. My brother-in-law suggested we just try putting in more fluid and see if that helps. We did...it helped for about 2 days. And then...HELL BROKE LOOSE!! The entire transmission was shot!! It had something to do about a wave plate and as a result, we needed to get an entirely rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $3,600!!! Literally, on the way home from the repair shop, the engine light started flashing! I immediately turned around and brought it back to the shop. They ran some tests and determined that it was likely some excess crap that just happened to pass through the sensor causing it to get triggered.Now, 8 months later, the engine light keeps going on and whenever I fill my car with gas, I have to rev the accelerator to get it to start!! It seemed to be running ok...but after the last fiasco, we didnt want to risk anything. So, I brought it into the shop. The technician find that there has been over 36K misfires from cylinder 2 and that the spark plug has seized. I leave my vehicle there and drive their 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 232K miles on it over the weekend as a loaner. (amazing how a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 232K miles is still running, but my 2008 with 92K miles on it is toast). Anyways, he said that they wanted to replace the spark plugs and then try moving the cylinder coil that had been connected to the #2 over to a different one to see if maybe the issue was just the cylinder coil and nothing more serious.I receive a call this afternoon telling me that it appears that the issue was not related to the cylinder coil and they suspect we are going to need a NEW ENGINE!!!!! Yep, thats right...A NEW ENGINE!!!! This car does not even have 100K miles on it and I am being told I need to put a NEW ENGINE in it??? After we already replaced the transmission!!! That is seriously wrong and a total load of crap!!It appears that both the transmission and the engine are well-known problems for this model and year of vehicle!! I guess 2007s are experiencing the same troubles!! If you look online you can see discussion board after discussion board all discussing these same issues. Saturn needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a faulty product!!! There is no reason I should have to put in over $10K worth of repairs on a vehicle with less than 100K miles on it!! It is disgraceful!!!
I have a 2007 Saturn ION 3. Bought it used since my last one was such a good car. Had the recall ignition changed a few months ago. It is cold here today, very cold but we had below zero for WEEKS last year and my other Saturn started every morning (no garage but between other cars). I just went out there to warm it up, the steering is turned, like it got turned and locked up (which will happen from time to time). The normal trick is to turn the steering the best you can the direction it does go then turn the key.. NO LUCK.. Tried it for over 30 min. I put heat on the steering and heat on the Transmission stick area in the car just in case cold was an issue. NO LUCK. Ughhhhh I saw where trying to rock the car and try it.. and to try hooking up a jump just in case the battery is low due to electronic steering.. Do not think it is low but always worth a try. Now to even get this thing towed will be a task. The position and gears, steering, etc. is all locked.. Believe if someone wants to steal this car please do so. Quit putting all the anti crap on it LOL.. Not a fan of going to dealerships for repairs, but if it is the new recall ignition then it is covered but if not then $$$ at a dealership... Plus they can just tell me it was something else and lie.
I am on my third Saturn. I dont have an Ion. I have a 2007 VUE. I owned two other cars prior to this. My first two Saturns, within the warranty period, had to have the ignition replaced because they jammed and I couldnt turn the key to start the car. My VUE made it past the warranty period, but now is jamming up the same way. Another quirk: I can start the car and pull the key out and drive without the key in. I have to be careful to turn the ignition all the way to off before I pull the key out or the battery will die if the radio or something else is left on. I fully expect, based upon my experience today of trying for about 10 minutes to unlock the ignition and turn the key, that there will soon come a point where I cant start it and will have to pay loads to have the ignition replaced. Yes, three Saturns...same problem. If GM wanted to really be about customer service, they would acknowledge this issue.
I am literally fed up with Saturn. I have been having all sorts of problems with this car, from the key being stuck in the ignition, to the car not starting anytime the temperature is below 50 degrees, to the car stopping in the middle of the traffic. I have notified Saturn and even payed them before they went out of business, to fix this problem and yet it still exist. I have contacted the BBB and was stated that nothing could be done because I was past the warranty and lemon laws for the state of TN. Someone needs to help us. Within an hour, I have read about 20 complaints. Does it take that many complaints to get attention about these cars? This is horrible. Im so upset with Saturn, GMC, and BBB, for not supporting their customers.
I purchased 1995 Saturn with 63,000 miles in 2010. The car reached 75,000 miles on Dec 2011. The cylinder head cracked and needs to replaced for approximate cost of $2000.00. Research shows cars from 1992-1999 had a cylinder head defect in the design and Saturn extended the warranty to 100,000 miles but due to the age of the car, GM will not help out with repair cost. Read from other customers, no one got help. GM does not acknowledge the warranty. I just want consumers to know Saturn cars may look good, have low mileage but after 50,000 miles, trouble awaits around the corner.
In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.
Saturn Vue original trans failed at 121,500. Based on what I read, I was lucky to have had it last that long. As new GM failed to uphold the results of the lawsuit, that is to cover replacement for a defective product, I had to pay $5000 for parts and labor to replace. I was told warranty is 3-year/36k miles. I went ahead, thinking if I get three years that would be great and worth the money. Now, at 2 years and 34,000 miles, I have a failing trans and am being told that no, the warranty is only 12/12. I am screwed. Even my mechanic was told 3/36 by dealership where he bought it. Get it on paper, people. I cannot afford a new car or $5k to get another bad trans. I am stuck in PA.
I have purchased a 2009 Saturn Aura. Recently, my power steering light has been coming on. Just a week ago, I turned the key on and my steering wheel was going crazy! It was shaking! Two days later, as I was driving, my power steering light came on and started beeping and my steering wheel got stiff! I couldnt move to the side to get off the road, so I ended stopping on the middle of the street and shut the car off, took the key out and the steering wheel wasnt locked again. Just today, I was driving and my steering wheel froze on me! So I had to again stop the car to turn it off and I started up the car again! I took it in and they couldnt find anything wrong with it! I am posting this as an insurance to make Saturn liable if anything happens to me while driving and this steering wheel freezes up on me and I’m in an accident due to this problem!!! There seems to be a lot of problems in regards to the power steering. But my vehicle freezes up on the steering column and I’m not able to move the steering wheel to move out of the road! Please help! I myself wanted to change the power steering, but if it’s not showing up on the computer code as a defect. Why do it?
For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problems with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I purchased my vehicle brand-new in 2006. I loved the car. But in 2010, my vehicle would not shut off. I took the vehicle to a crappy GM dealer that took 3 months to fix the problem. I paid $300 to get the ignition chamber switched out. In 2011, I had another problem. I couldnt take the key out of the ignition. Luckily, since it was within one year, they fixed the problem under parts warranty. Now, 4/11/2012, I couldnt turn my vehicle off again and was late to work trying to remove the key. I had to leave the car running, and my husband drove to my job, got in the car, drove it home, and had to remove wiring to shut it off. I called Saturn Customer Care and have to take the vehicle into the nearest dealership. I have to pay for the diagnostic, and so on and so forth. I am upset. This is ridiculous. Once this problem is fixed, I am trading in my vehicle; someone else can deal with this problem. I want to know if I can sue. I will even settle for them just buying the car back from me, so I can buy a new car. I just cant deal with the headaches, time, and money anymore. Anyone with these issues, I suggest calling Saturn Customer Care at 1-800-553-6000. You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket.
Faulty wave plate 2009 saturn vue XE - This wave plate cracked at 140,000 miles costing me around $3,000 to replace my transmission. A month later I get a letter stated that GM will be completely cover the cost up to 120,000 due to this being a faulty part. I applied for at least a partial reimbursement. Got denied over the phone. When I asked to speak with a manager I was transferred to what I believe was the exact same voice under a different name again stated they understood and could not honor my request. If you put a faulty part in a car it should be covered by the company. This car is six years old and the transmission should not fail if quality made.
I have an ‘05 Saturn ION and the ignition cylinder has been nothing but problematic. Ive had the problem where the key gets stuck in the ignition while it’s running and cannot be turned off. This has happened three separate times. The first time was fixed under warranty. The second time was a little over a year ago and just recently, it happened again. The thing is, if you are getting it replaced, make sure that the cylinder is replaced with GM Part # 20869121 which is a newly designed cylinder used in other GM cars.I dont know if the technical bulletins for the ION have been updated to address this. But if they havent, do not let the dealer use the defectively designed Saturn OEM part because you will just have the same issue in the future. My recently repaired car uses the new GM part, so Im hopeful that this will be the end of the problem. You can tell the difference between the two parts because the old OEM part has sort of a dull metal finish which can be seen around the key hole when its installed, while the newer part appears shinier.
I bought a 2002 Saturn L200 in mid-2010, with verified low mileage (26,000 miles) for my daughter. In July 2011, (current mileage 39,000 miles), the vehicles timing chain broke while she was driving at highway speed. There was no warning. She was able to pull over to the median but the car wouldnt start again and had to be towed.
I just got off the phone with GM Corporate. They again are refusing to take responsibility for the brake issue on the Saturn Aura. I bought a 2007 Saturn Aura new. At 27,300 I had to replace the brakes and rotors. Then at 46,000 I had to replace the brakes and have the calipers cleaned. I finally gave up and traded in the car because of GMs refusal to take responsibility for the AURA brake problems. This morning I reported General Motors to the NHTSA (888) 327-4236 and to the Federal Trade Commission (877) 382-4357. GM says they will not reimburse me until there is a recall. Please report your problems so we can force a recall. The number to GM Corporate for Saturn is (800) 553-6000.
Problem #1: Ignition key not returning to off to be able to remove it. My dad removed the 1 square access panel on the bottom side of the steering column cover (right under cylinder) so I would be able to push the release button.Problem #2: Key goes in ignition but wont turn. Dad looked at it but its too intermittent to diagnose. Still works with some additional tries so far.Problem #3: Key goes in and turns and everything lights up but no engine rotation. This problem seems more prevalent when the temps fall below 40 degrees F. Dad looked at it but its too intermittent to diagnose. Still works with some additional tries so far.Question: Is there not an ignition that GM builds from another car that doesnt have these problems that is compatible with the 05 Saturn Ion?
My 2006 Saturn Ion began having starting problems locking up. I took my car in due to one of the recalls on this model in hopes this problem would be resolved once and for all. The service department said the locking up problem was not part of the recall and that I needed a new battery or a new starter. I told him that I had already had both of these replaced and the problem was still ongoing. Again he said this had nothing to do with the recall. They supposedly repaired my car and now it is totally locked up and will not start. WORST SERVICE EVER!! WORST VEHICLE EVER!!
Saturn Vue 2008 - We have 78,000 miles in our Saturn and love the car. Havent had any major problems over the last 6 years but I was driving the other day and after stopping at a stop sign the car wouldnt move. I shut the engine off and started it again and out it in drive and it went about 50 feet before going back into neutral on its own. Cannot get it to drive. It has been towed to a Chevy dealer 40 miles away and we are waiting to hear. Of course there is no warranty anymore. Time for a Ford? This is ridiculous from all the comments I have read with people having transmission problems with their Saturn Vue. Why doesnt GM address this? Too many other recalls?
I went out of town in my 2006 Saturn Ion. While I was there, I could not turn the ignition off on my car. The key was stuck and would not turn back so I could turn the car off. Thank God, I had a spare key in my purse and was able to lock the car and leave it running. I had a few things to do in town, so my car was on for 6 hours or more. I just had to make sure that I had enough gas in it. I just found out that its going to cost me $300 to have this problem fixed.
Weekly the battery has to be charged. While drinking with baby in car, the car cut off. Luckily no one got injured when getting out of traffic.
My 2007 Saturn Aura XR with approx. 80,000 miles would not engage in gear. After towing it to transmission repair shop, was told it had essentially disintegrated and was completely shot. I have been reading hundreds of identical complaints with this model year transmission. When I emailed GM customer service, I was told my VIN was not part of this transmission recall. Many others were told the same thing yet its the same problem with this model year (The door was damaged when it rolled into a pole when I thought it was engaged in park). Repairs are in excess of $3,000 and with no Saturn parts available. Clearly a defect. There should be assistance with repairs. Seems US auto makers get a bailout yet consumers get screwed. Can anything be done?
They said it was the key; the tumblers were bad, and they re-keyed it. The Saturn still locks up, and cannot get the key out. Another problem is it would not steer the other day. I waited for a while then it steered just fine, and drove home. How do we get a recall on this issue? You buy a car and pay a lot of money, and then it has no reliability. I am concerned about going anywhere using a car that will just get me stranded.
Our Saturn Vue 2006 needs a secondary axle bearing, GM part No. 24460143. Should be simple, right? No! After searching locally and online we called GMs Detroit Headquarters in July, only to be told that they have stopped making this bearing. Their policy is supposedly to continue producing parts at least till the vehicle is 10 years old. The young man we spoke with in July promised to open a case to check into this and get back to us shortly. We waited for 2 MONTHS, with no response. Finally we called back and after about 6 hours of phone calls we were but through to Marie at GM Corporate Headquarters. Explained the problem all over again, waited another week while she looked into the situation, only to be told, sorry about your luck, we dont make that bearing anymore, and that since the problem had been diagnosed by someone other than a GM dealership, they had no responsibility to produce the part. Deduction: General Motors does not stand behind its products, will only consider General Motors Dealership mechanics as qualified to diagnose problems on their vehicles!!!
I recently was involved in a vehicular accident with my 2006 Saturn Ion3. Although I was traveling at approximately 40 mph when I crashed into another vehicle, the airbag didnt deploy. By the airbag not deploying, On Star wasnt notified of the crash. Since OnStar is their premiere system, it might be good if the very thing that will get help, actually works. My car was totaled, and they dont make Saturns anymore, but maybe somebody might want to check out the airbag on these vehicles to make sure they actually work. Mine didnt.
I was in a car accident today (04/21/12) and I am really upset that my airbag did not deploy. I was doing 55 MPH going to a green light and this car just decided to turn left right in front of me. We hit and my airbag did not deploy but the red light shows that it did and within seconds onStar came on right away, ambulance, state police and who knows what else. I thank God that I am alright, but really disappointed that the airbag did not deploy in my 2009 Saturn VUE, I could have been hurt really bad.
I bought a Saturn Ion 3 years ago. At 93,000 miles, the timing chain jumped its track and now the car cannot run. The dealer I bought it from and the GM dealer said it will cost $2500.00 to fix. GM and the dealers will not help me with financing. The dealer I got it from will sell me another car but at a steeper payment to cover the difference. I bought this car used. I cant default without serious consequences. The car is a 2007. I need to know if anyone else has had this problem with Saturn Ions from 2006 to now.
We have had numerous problems with our 2006 Saturn Vue, which all started with having to roll over extra payments from a 2005 Vue that we had multiple problems with. The first major issue we had was the torque converter, where they said they could never recreate the incident so couldnt help us.They finally replaced it (before the recall came out) and at that time, they also replaced the ignition because of the problems we were having trying to turn the key to start the car. We’re unsure if they actually replaced it or not.Now, we are once again having ignition problems and we are out of warranty. The GM dealership wants to charge me $80 for the ignition tumbler and $60 per key to recode them. That is with me installing it by the way.
I have a 2007 Saturn Ion. Last year, during summer, I got in the car to go to work and my key would not turn in the ignition. So, I missed work, had to get a tow, and had to have the ignition lock/cylinder replaced on my car (that I am still making payments on). Now, a year later, my key keeps getting stuck when I try to turn the car off.
I have experienced many of the problems I hear from owners here. Frozen key or ignition, stuck key, vehicle will not turn off. Took the car in for servicing (luckily, the car is still covered by warranty). I received an offer from the dealership for over $6K. I wondered why they would offer that much money for a car with over 86K miles on it. Then I came across the lawsuit filed below and read through the case file Interesting stuff, makes me want to call GM directly. **. I want to know how these transmission problems apply to the 2006-2007 ION models and what we need to do. My elderly parent will drive this for a few weeks and I will be holding my breath the whole time! Something for folks to keep in mind.
I own a 2007 Saturn Ion that I purchased new. It has 48,000 miles on it. I went to work one day and my car wouldnt turn off and the key wouldnt come out. I drove it to my mechanic who had never heard of the problem. He had to replace the ignition, cylinder, and housing for $450. I called the place I bought the car and they quoted a price of $1,100 - $1,300. He also said that with their experience with this problem sometimes they only had to replace two of the parts and might be able to do it for $600. Obviously, it had happened a lot. I would like to know what it takes to get a recall or reimbursement. If anybody has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. I dont know what to do to start a class action suit. I also had to replace my radiator in June because Saturn doesnt put a guard under it to stop the rocks from hitting it. It took $550 to replace it.
Currently, my 2004 Saturn ION 3 has 90K miles. I have made two previous repairs totaling $2500 to repair the timing chain and timing chain tension assembly, which has failed again. GM offers no help. Investigation reveals that this is a widespread problem.
I went to the Saturn dealership to get my oil changed and they charged me. I bought this with the lifetime oil lube and filter included in the price. The service technician informed me that they dont honor that anymore. My question is, Where was the letter to the owners of Saturn Ions?The next point I would like to make is about the ignition switch. This point was brought up to the Saturn dealership as well. No response. Crappy service=GM. This is the last GM product I will own!
On 5/30/13, I was driving home from work and turning a corner when the power steering light came on in my car. A chime went off and the message PWR STR appeared. My car then died; the wheel and brakes locked. I thought I was going to hit this mom with her two kids. I panicked and grabbed the emergency brake; jumped a curb. I had my car towed to a local shop by my house completely unaware that ** GM/Saturn is aware of the powering steering failure issue and REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL! $1,000 later and NO help from GM, I have no money to feed my family, missed work and almost lost my job. I am terrified beyond words to drive this **. When this happened, it had 24,698 miles on it. NEVER EVER BUY this car. Thank God they are out of business. Im hopefully getting a new car - NON-GM next week because driving any Saturn (or any GM made car from what Ive read) is a death sentence. I also plan on suing GM and contacting every NY news station I can think of and reporting this issue to every single possible place I can - BBB, NJ Lemon Law Unit, NHTSA, etc. LIVES NEED TO BE SAVED.
Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. It cost me $85.00 for less than a 1/5 of a mile because the transmission went out again; twice in 170,000 miles.
