About 6 months ago, my key would not turn all the way to the off position and slide out. The mechanic stated that it was the shift solenoid and ignition. Now 6 months later, my car wont turn off. I would put it in park and try to turn the key to the off position but the key would not budge. I have to disconnect the ignition fuse to turn the ignition off and then disconnect the battery cable so the battery wont die.
From day one when I went and paid cash for my Saturn, I thought I was doing a good thing buying American made. Should have kept my Honda. It has been one thing after another with this car. I cant even remember there has been so many things, and now there is water in my drivers side floor for about the third time. First it was the sun roof, now we really dont know. The AC is not working so maybe that or plugged drains from sunroof. I have had it. And the original warranty was three years. Had to buy extended warranty, and they suck too. There is always some excuse why they dont cover whats wrong.
Because I feed the community I need an SUV that was reasonably good on gas and had great recommendation. I love a smooth riding car that has plenty of room. The features on this Saturn Vue are very basic. It is very important to me not to be distracted while driving. It has been a great Driving Experience. It also is good on gas. I have driven quite a few miles with no problems and it is very important to me to have a lot of room to deliver food. I also like the radio and how it is easy to find. The maintenance on this car is very easy even I can do what needs to be done my radio stations and change the time on the clock. The air conditioner features are also easy to maneuver.
Small and compact with only so many people could get in. But it carries food in a very tight space to where the groceries will not spill or fall over. Good the features, the graphics are outstanding and its a very reliable vehicle and supportive for my needs as well. But to add some of the fluid, you actually physically have to lift up the car. Also, the repairs on the vehicle can get expensive if youre not sure where to get them from.
I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and just spent $649 to have the ignition switch replaced. The light would constantly come on and the key would get stuck and it would lock up on me. This has been going on for about 2 years. It stopped for about a year and then about 2 weeks ago it started up again. When I took it in for repair, I had to go to the dealer. I found out this happens to most Ions. This is unacceptable. And he said he would not be surprised if I am back in 6 months. What can be done if anything? This just does not seem right, other than selling my car. But I cannot afford a new one. Please help!
In January 2010, my family purchased a one owner, 2003 Saturn Vue 6 cyl. It was a great SUV until last week. That was the day the VTI transmission decided to come apart whilst I was driving on the Interstate at 70mph in rush hour traffic. Upon getting it into the old Saturn dealership, I was told by the service manager that this was a known problem, GM had an extended policy on it and I should call the above number to start a claim. I went home and looked this known problem that was not issued as a recall but rather as an internal service memo. Imagine my dismay at finding out that the previous owners had been informed of the problem, traded the Saturn in and were able to buy it all within the space of a month. It seems, according to the attorneys that filed the class action suit against GM, that the notice was to travel with the title (of course it didnt or wed not have bought the car). We were to be offered 5K in credits on a new GM car and there would be no punishment on the trade-in of the piece of junk we now owned. Because it was not recalled, Carfax, NTSB, et al. didnt warn us either.A week later, I finally got a call from GM and was told that I was outside the class, but GM would look into getting me something, no promises. The offer came through today. Theyd give us the 5K in credits toward a new GM car, but nothing else. No trade in (that 5K is the trade in) value and nothing more.
As read in all of the other reviews, I am both happy and sad. Happy to see that I am not the only one with this issue and sad to see that GM has not done anything about it! So my key also gets stuck when I am trying to turn off my car. I did notice that if you wait patiently, you will eventually hear a little click sound. When you hear that sound, then the key will come out. Well it does it on my car. I am not sure if it does it on all but if you hear the click once, you will know what to look for. I have a new problem now. I parked my car in my driveway last night then went back into the car to run to the store and I am having the opposite problem. I turn the key to start the car and it gets stuck before the car can start. So now I cannot start the car! I was looking to see if there were any recalls and I found hundreds of complaints. I saw another writer mention a class action law suit. Perhaps that is the way to go.
As some have rightly noted, RUN from GM vehicles!! I purchased a 2008 Saturn Outlook, and it has been plagued with problems - overheating, water pump failure, power steering pump leak, cv joints, struts, oil leaks, stabilitrak sensor failure, engine (sensors going out), transaxle leak, master brake cylinder failure, etc. Most of the problems occurred within 5 years of ownership. I decided to buy American and purchased a Saturn because of word of mouth reviews about the brand. Worst mistake ever!!! GM refuses to own the issues with this vehicle and declare it a lemon. I had to purchase another vehicle - a foreign one this time - because of its unreliability. Pre-owned buyers beware - DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE!!! A vehicle I thought I could have for 10 years is just a piece of crap.
I bought my Saturn 2001 SC1 five ears ago with only 35,000 miles on it. At first it worked well. But these past few years, I have had nothing but transmission problems. As I am writing this, I will be having my third transmission problem. After reading all the complaints, it looks like I am not the only one!
I have had the BEST luck with my 2008 Saturn VUE XE. Bought it brand new December 2008. Have not had one problem EVER. I do however take very good care of her - I do think that is key. Oil change every 3500, recommended owner guide maintenance. 120,000 and going strong.
On 5/30/13, I was driving home from work and turning a corner when the power steering light came on in my car. A chime went off and the message PWR STR appeared. My car then died; the wheel and brakes locked. I thought I was going to hit this mom with her two kids. I panicked and grabbed the emergency brake; jumped a curb. I had my car towed to a local shop by my house completely unaware that ** GM/Saturn is aware of the powering steering failure issue and REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL! $1,000 later and NO help from GM, I have no money to feed my family, missed work and almost lost my job. I am terrified beyond words to drive this **. When this happened, it had 24,698 miles on it. NEVER EVER BUY this car. Thank God they are out of business. Im hopefully getting a new car - NON-GM next week because driving any Saturn (or any GM made car from what Ive read) is a death sentence. I also plan on suing GM and contacting every NY news station I can think of and reporting this issue to every single possible place I can - BBB, NJ Lemon Law Unit, NHTSA, etc. LIVES NEED TO BE SAVED.
I bought a new 08 saturn 84k miles ago. The transmission is not getting me up to speed. Im being honked at. The engine revs high but the speed is very slow. Reading reviews I see its a common trans problem. I have it at the shop now. They cant find anything wrong. The trans place couldnt find a problem either. It happens intermittent. Now back to the transmission shop again. Im clearly expecting a 4k bill.
It looks like I am one of many who own a 2003 Saturn Ion where the ignition lock cylinder locks up & cant remove key. It happens many times, twice this week. I went to the auto store & got a new cylinder. I tried to put in it, but now the key goes in & out easily but the whole cylinder will not turn at all, so the car cant be started! Im going to have to tear apart the steering column maybe. I dont want to have to buy another new part costing $84+ tax especially since the new parts probably are defective also. It does absolutely no good to buy the new part & it doesnt work when you install it. Since now the cylinder is completely stuck & doesnt move at all, I cant even use the car! I have to carpool my wife to her job etc, and cant afford to buy another car. Since Saturn & GM knows about all the Saturn owners having this same problem, there needs to be a major recall and a class action suit to repay all the owners for the expenses they incur because Saturn/GM stopped making new cars, and the local GM mechanics, etc. just throw up their hands and say sorry! This is a consumer nightmare.
Like many of the complaints above, I also had a problem with the ignition lock. I was going out to dinner, parked my car, but when I went to turn off the vehicle, they key wouldnt turn. I called AAA, and the rep who was dispatched asked if it was a Saturn Ion (its a 2007 Ion with about 65K miles on it), which was interesting to me. He said my best bet was just to take it right to the dealership. When I parked it outside the GM dealership and went in to explain the problem, they too asked if it was a Saturn. Clearly this problem is more wide-spread than I thought. Both the AAA rep and the mechanics at the dealership are aware this is an issue with Saturn vehicles.At the end of the day, theyre replacing the Ignition lock cylinder and housing for $540. I called GM/Saturn to file a complaint, seeing as everyone seems to know this is an issue and there are hundreds of documented cases on this site alone. I was told Ill get a call back next week because they are currently updating their system that deals with manufacturer defects/recalls and special considerations given regarding such issues. Im assuming theyll tell me Im SOL, but heres hoping. Ill provide an update when I hear back from them.
I own a 2009 Saturn Outlook XR with approximately 84000 miles on the vehicle. The transmission has failed on the vehicle, and the warranty was for five years or 100,000 miles. My local dealer has said the five years are up and they will not give me any consideration for repairs and want over four thousand dollars to repair it. When the towing company placed the vehicle on the roll back, the operator made the statement that he averages quite a few of these a week! This vehicle has had at least six recalls on major issues, water pump, power steering, power tailgate, seat belts, and etc. I can assure you this will be the last GM vehicle that I will ever buy. I have talked to two transmission shops in town and have been told that this transmission has had issues from the very start, and GM has been working on correcting the problem with the transmission. I was told GM has made three changes in the last twenty-four months to correct the problems with this transmission. Thanks GM, for keeping your customers updated on a defective transmission.
We purchased our used 2007 Saturn Outlook in May 2009. The vehicle had its first leak in March 2010. We took the vehicle back to our original dealer, and they stated the original TSB/Recall worth that was done, did not get done appropriately. They redid the work. My vehicle has leaked 8 more times, and the new dealership (original Saturn closed) cannot locate the leak. I have a case with GM, and I am getting nowhere. GM does not appear to be taking any responsibility for their faulty vehicle. There are numerous complaints about this same issue online (i.e. **). I have documented every conversation/appointment I have had regarding this issue.My headliner and carpet are both ruined from all the rain that has soaked in. When it gets warm outside, my vehicle smells terribly. Im concerned about the potential health effects this may have on my family, if there is mold/mildew growing in the vehicle. I am also concerned about the probability of mechanical things malfunctioning, due to the rain getting it wet. I am disgusted with GM, and the way they are handling all of the leak issues with the many Outlooks produced. There should have been a recall placed on all of them way back when. I am disgusted.
My mother, like most people who received a recall letter in the mail this past year and who also happens to be one of the fortunate ones that can live to tell this story took her 2005 Saturn Ion to Love Chevrolet to have it serviced due to the ignition switch recall. Mind you there had been no issues with the car prior to. Where some people might say Saturns were poorly made my mothers car was actually one of the good ones. I always felt safe in it and more than safe enough to have my 5 year old daughter in the car. Whats the motto? If it isnt broke, dont fix it? Well, to say the least the day after Love put a generic ignition switch into her Saturn Ion handed her a new set of keys and told her the car was more than safe to drive long distances it was being towed off the side of the road. Their claim? My mother needed a new starter, 2 coil replacements and a new module and that the timing of the repairs was coincidental with what took place. The dealership was quick to tell us how much it would cost to replace the parts and was even quicker to let us know they would not be paying for it. Coincidental? Really?? Strike one. Thanks, GM. A few days later a family friend and mechanic does some research online, finds a starter from another Saturn and installs the part himself hoping to save my mother some money. However he is unable to run a diagnostic on the module because there is a code to get into it and only GM knows this code. Does that even sound legal to anyone else? GM has a code on your car making it near impossible for you to send it to any other place to have it fixed?? Its brilliant and slimy all at the same time..more slimy than brilliant. Anyhow, once the starter has been replaced all is well for about 3 hours and then its back to the side of the road we go. However, this time weve noticed some things. The car has no power, almost as if the battery has been drained and there is a smell coming from the ignition switch like something has burned up. So, with better judgment my mother decides to have it towed to a very trusted shop out in town instead of back to the GM dealership. I myself am military and stationed in Norfolk, VA and I often times wait to have maintenance done on my own car until Im visiting my mother in SC at this very shop, that is how trusted they are to me and my family. They explain to my mother that it is her ignition switch which is burning up her starter and draining her battery and they will personally give GM a call to find out what can be done since they should replace their faulty part. Sounds about right to me! GMs rebuttal? The mechanics my mother chose are not certified GM mechanics, a diagnostic was done previously while the car was at GM and since then my mother has had multiple hands in the car which could have caused those failures. They cannot be held responsible and will not be held responsible. Once again, GM was prepared with the labor and parts quote. Strike two and three. Thanks again, GM. Now, tell me something. Even if we were willing to have GM fix this again the trust is now out the window and my mother would be afraid to drive her car anywhere much less with my 5 year old daughter in it. I believe they would quietly fix the ignition switch issue and tell her it was something completely different. Is GM secretly trying to make up all the money they lost in labor for these recalls by putting parts in to cars they know are not necessarily compatible in hopes that these codes will force people to come back and have to pay out of pocket expenses? I know that my mother would hate to have another car payment right now but I have a feeling that regardless of if we spend the money to fix this or not that is exactly where we will end up, in a Honda dealership. People, please pay attention to what is going on out there with this recall. I would hate for this to happen to anyone else or worse. Thanks for absolutely nothing GM.
My Saturn is a good car. I had not too much trouble out of my Saturn car, drive nice. I have a 134,000 miles on my car. I purchase my car from a small dealership near Me where I live. I had a 122,000 when I purchase. I had my 2007 Saturn ion 2 for 7 months. The only problems I had was the air bags on and the recall that is on the Saturn. But Saturn is a good brands. Just about every car had a problem or a recall.
I purchased a 2003 Saturn Vue in 2009. Regretfully, I did not do my homework before purchasing. The transmission went out along with the transfer case. I paid $4976.23 for a new tranny and a rebuilt transfer case. The car has lost significant MPGs and will not shift correctly since the new install. It has greatly reduced power at take-off and there is screeching/clunking noise when turning left. GM dealership told me I need a new front differential now, a cost of $5,400. This car is a disgrace. I am still making payments on it. I have paid more in repairs then I have on my monthly payments. Is there any advice on reimbursement for all these expense? Do I have recourse?
My 2006 Saturn Ion with only 43,500 miles on it would not start because of not being able to turn the key. I had to be towed to the GM dealer. They replaced the ignition housing and cylinder at the cost of $413.00. Its still acting up somewhat when I try to turn the key, it seem to stick somewhat. I just hope it keeps starting the car. After reading all the complaints about the same problem, I think its about time there was a recall on this problem. I am going to call the consumer affairs department of Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, I found this number online. I hope everyone who reads this also calls this same number.
The latest problem is the misfiring related to the engine light going on and no one finding the problems. The dealer I bought it from or an outside shop.. brought back 4 to six times to each and finally both did something with no charge. Going for second recall still have to keep horn disconnected due to it going off like an alarm. As per the electrical Issue they could not diagnose and still have to go for second recall for key getting stuck in ignition. There seems to be no end in sight and no one is able to help even the place I bought it from. It was owned by one guy before me who took excellent care and apparently they said traded it to upgrade. I feel I made a huge mistake and am in a money pit and they all know it and this car should be taken back.
SATURN ION 2007 IGNITION SWITCH - Ignition switch was stuck in run position; would not turn off cars engine. Roadside service disconnected battery. Dealer replaced switch for $318...OUT OF MY POCKET, OUCH!
My 2008 Saturn Vue is a mess. I need a new heater core, fog comes inside the car, my speedometer is now not working. I am afraid that it is going to blow up while I am driving it. I do not have the money for repair. It is only a 2008 and it is horrible. Help.
I am very disappointed that Saturn had not addressed my ignition/steering column problem. Yesterday, I got home from work and parked my Saturn, in the garage, only to discover that I could not turn it off and the key was locked in the ignition. Fortunately, it was early enough to get it to a garage, before they closed for the day. Unfortunately, they have to take the whole steering column apart to get the key out. They plugged the button near the ignition, and did not release it. I would certainly like to see a class action law suit filed, against GM for not resolving this problem, as it seems to have been reported with IONS, for the last 7 years or so, as far as I can see. I just got the loan paid off, so the timing for the car to fall apart is coincidental.
Key would not come out of the ignition. Could not shut car off and ran into the same issue. When I spoke with GM, they had never heard of this problem. After giving them my VIN #, I was told there were 2 to 3 recalls for my car but nothing for the ignition problem. The person from GM then got a GM dealer from Austin on the phone with me who proceeded to tell me if I bring it in for $115 they will hook it up to figure out what was wrong. I have got an estimate for approx $400 to fix it. I was told the ignition was about $60 but if the housing is bad that adds another $160, $50 for a new key and programming. Besides the fact that they have to be replaced with the same defective GM parts and that it can happen again at any time.
I purchased a 2007 Saturn Outlook two years ago. During this time, my car was still under full warranty. I addressed to Saturn over and over that there was something wrong with the steering wheel; it shook and clicked. They kept saying it was fine and just some air in it. I also kept saying that there was hesitation in the engine and electrical issues, all this while it was under full warranty. They are now fixing the transmission and oil leak for the second time and also, the air bag sensor doesnt work and had not for over a year and GM is saying that they will not fix that or the broken steering column even though I have tried to have it fixed for two years. I have all my documents. Now, they are saying to go pick up the car or we have to pay for the rental because they cant help us yet and probably will not pay for the steering column or air bag sensor. This car has been a lemon since I bought it and I owe a lot on it and for the past week, I have been trying to get GM to fix those two items.
I had a wreck in my Saturn and went through the Feinberg resolution and was told that I would receive nothing for my accident. I have tried to contact Chevrolet several times and always get the runaround. They came out to my car and did a Bosch crash data retrieval and told me theyre sorry they dont know how to read it. I can get no help from them. Please help.
Transmission suddenly goes bad when shifting from 2 to 3. It is a known problem in Saturn transmissions and I was able to find it on an internet forum. I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! It is also a safety issue when you have no idea when its suddenly going to break!
I started smelling gas in my 2006 Saturn Ion in October of 2016 and took into a local service center to have it checked. They informed me that it was the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced right away. Well in my mind all I was thinking is my car could catch on fire so I agreed and they did the repairs on 11/11/2016 to the tune of $437.79. Later I find out that this was a special coverage recall and that my local dealer would have did the job at no cost to me. I called customer care and explained that I felt like this was an emergency and was not thinking about my local dealership which is 20 miles away. She gave me a case # and told me to get a reimbursement form from dealership and submit the papers and surely they could do something. Well I sent paperwork off in January 2017 and now in March since I have not heard anything I decided to contact them. They informed me that my claim was denied and that my vehicle still has the coverage so if it happens again take it to the dealership. I told her how upset I was and this was awful that I am out off pocket for something that was their fault. My car is 11 years old with 104,050 miles on it and the cap for the coverage is I think 150,000 miles. I would hope that a fuel pump would last longer than a few thousand miles. I have had nothing but problem with this car from the moment I bought it and I agree with everyone else about never owning another GM!!
2006 Saturn Ion got to work and could not shut my car off. I work at a jail so I could not go in and go on the internet to find the closest Saturn dealer, which I find out later is an hour away in Stockton. I took it to the first auto repair I found and it cost almost $700.00 to get it fixed. I am submitting my bill to Saturn, with a formal complaint to get this reimbursed. I see lots and lots of this happening and it should be a recall.
Over the last two months, I have had some problems when I would turn my car off and the key would not disengage after. I fooled with it and the key would disengage. Was driving to work on 6/13 13 in the morning; I was running along at 65 when I heard a slight click noise. At the same time, the engine and the gauges cut off. The radio was still working. I coasted off-road, turned the key again, and the car started right up. Never had that happen.Got to work and went out four hours later to start the car. It started right up, but I could not turn it off. I tried everything I knew. I took it to a local shop, and they replaced the broken parts in the steering column for the ignition key and the switch assembly. Total cost was $598.00. Does anyone know if there was a silent recall for that issue that they are not telling people? I would like to know.
I bought a GM Certified 2007 Saturn Aura in November of 2008. The vehicle had 14,500 miles on it when I purchased it. The car fax said there were no problems, other than a minor gasket, which was replaced at about 5,000 miles. I immediately went into the dealership for wheel imbalance problems, that the dealership never did satisfactorily fix. My own mechanic later told me he found a bent rim on one wheel right away, when he replaced the tires. The brake pads broke at 15,000 miles, and the seat back airbag housing fell apart at 16,000 miles (no one sits in my back seat). Both door speakers were replaced by 16,000 miles, and I am not a teenager. It was in the shop for steering noise and vibration problems, on three separate times. The new oil pan gasket was done at 16,500 miles. The washer fluid pump failed at 37,000 miles, and the final problem after 4 years at 45,000 miles, the head gasket failed. Most of these things were taken care of under warranty, but the sheer time it takes to wade through all of these problems is not worth it to drive American.I am a GM brat, and this will be the last vehicle that I purchase from them. This is the worst vehicle that I have had, since my 1984 Renault Alliance. I owe more than the dumb thing is worth, so I have no choice but to keep my fingers crossed, and hope that it lasts until I pay it off. 2007 was the first model year for the Aura, but GM had been making the Opel equivalent for at least two years before. You think they would have worked the bugs out, before they brought it to the US.
I fell in love with the Saturn VUEs when they first came out with them in 2000. I wanted one so bad. In 2002, I was in an accident in my 1995 Saturn Sedan with a tractor trailer. After 2 years of lawyers fees, I had enough settlement left over to buy a 2003 Saturn VUE. It was exactly what I was looking for, the color & all. I didnt care about the size of the motor. I was excited to be able to buy the car I wanted. Last year, I started hearing a noise coming from the motor that turned out to be the timing chain. Just recently, I had to take it off the road to keep it from blowing the motor. The 1995 Saturn was just taken off the road a couple weeks before with shot piston rings after 135k miles. We are now down to borrowing my father-in-laws truck, leaving us with no vehicle for me to take my kids to their doctors appointment while my husband is at work. I have to drum up $700.00 to replace a timing chain that Saturn knew had problems way back when.I understand that Saturn is out of business, but they are still repaired by GM parts. With all the complaints that I have been reading, you would think that GM would figure out in the long run that it would probably be cheaper to fix the problems rather than wait for the government to finally force a law suit causing more money to be paid out.I still love my Saturn VUE even though the transmission will most likely go out yet. But I have had this car for 6.5 years now & this is the first major problem I have had with it. Many others of you have had major problems from the start. I just want mine fixed. I just dont feel I should be responsible to pay for the problem GM knew was there.
I bought my 2003 Saturn L200 in July of 2009 with only 31,000 miles on it. It was great for two years, until the Summer of 2011 when the odometer started spinning out of control. It added 50,000+ miles on it in a short time. It costs $1400 to fix the BCM (body control module) and took a month to fix. The dealer had to backorder the part. Now, my fuel pump has died repeatedly, leaving me stranded multiple times. The fuel pump at OReilly Auto Parts costs $350 and this was the cheapest price by far. Its currently at the mechanic for the third time and he is stumped. After the car died the second time, we figured we got a bad fuel pump. But somehow it is not getting power to the fuel pump. I was promised the GM would continue to uphold Saturns level of service. All Ive seen are expensive parts and time-consuming repairs. I will never buy a GM product again.
I have a 2005 Saturn Ion that I bought with 37,000 miles on it. Whenever the temperature is below 30, my car starts when it wants to. When I turn the key in the ignition, my security system light just flashes and wont let me try and start my car again for 10 minutes while it resets itself. It takes anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes to get my car started. I have resorted to putting a bathroom heater inside my car on the driver side floor to warm up the ignition so it will start. I have dealt with this for 2 years and I am buying a new car in a couple of days, because I cant take getting stuck after work for 30 minutes because my security system thinks Im breaking into my car. Ill take the $3,000 loss on my car!
I bought this 2003 Saturn Ion for my son a few months ago. It was a great deal... less than 30,000 miles with a clean title. After reading all these issues, I am worried. He was having the key problem where the key would not come out. NOW (yesterday) we noticed that the key comes out, but will not turn past ACC. You can start his car with just about any key and even your finger with pressure. Problem is, if we cannot get it to turn off, it kills the battery (learned this yesterday also). We live in Hawaii... Not too many places carry the part and once we get it here (shipped express for the cost of a small island itself), I hope it works. This is/was a great deal and the perfect car for my son. Now I am scared.
Our Saturn Vue 2006 needs a secondary axle bearing, GM part No. 24460143. Should be simple, right? No! After searching locally and online we called GMs Detroit Headquarters in July, only to be told that they have stopped making this bearing. Their policy is supposedly to continue producing parts at least till the vehicle is 10 years old. The young man we spoke with in July promised to open a case to check into this and get back to us shortly. We waited for 2 MONTHS, with no response. Finally we called back and after about 6 hours of phone calls we were but through to Marie at GM Corporate Headquarters. Explained the problem all over again, waited another week while she looked into the situation, only to be told, sorry about your luck, we dont make that bearing anymore, and that since the problem had been diagnosed by someone other than a GM dealership, they had no responsibility to produce the part. Deduction: General Motors does not stand behind its products, will only consider General Motors Dealership mechanics as qualified to diagnose problems on their vehicles!!!
I took my 2006 Saturn Vue to Larry Green dealership for simple diagnosis. 2 hours later, I found out that they ran a compression test with the cover off of my timing belt. The belt slipped and bent the valves. This was the beginning of all my major problems. They kept the car for 2 months trying to correct their mistakes. I got the car back and it was never the same. I took it back 2 times, then I didnt see my car for 3 more months, getting the runaround about parts. There were several mechanics working on my car within those months that are now no longer there. I finally got my car back, after they ruined it telling me to go to another GM dealer to have them fix what they couldnt. This car was a great car with 65,000 miles, not even 5 years old, and I am still paying for it at the tune of $29,000. The body and interior are still like new. I take very good care of my vehicles and I have had a Saturn for 21 years.
I am furious to find out that GM knew all along about the ignition problems with some of their cars. We bought our daughter a 2003 Saturn Ion in 2004. In less than 2 years the problems with the ignition started. It was a nightmare! She lived 800 miles away and dealt with the car not starting constantly. Sometimes the car would start then shut off and not start again for 15 or 20 mins or longer. The car died on the interstate!!! She could have gotten hit by another car! She had to call the police and they pushed her off the road onto a side road and she waited for AAA to come and haul her car over 100 miles back to her house. This all happened at night. She took the car to mechanic after mechanic to dealership after dealership trying to figure out what the fix was. Finally, a friends boyfriend did some research on the web and saw all the complaints and figured out to take the fob off. That did help but she still had problems with battery needing charged, the battery was being run down even though the car was off. A lot of electric issues. When I read about all the horrible accidents it makes me sick to think these families should not have had to suffer these losses and what could have happened to my daughter. Shameful.
My wife recently had an accident where she fell asleep and crashed into a guard rail at 70 miles an hour. The airbags didnt deploy. Onstar didnt call either to check to see if she was alright. I was told that Onstar only calls if the airbags deploy. I am almost certain the car is totaled. I am currently waiting for my insurance company to let me know. They couldnt believe they didnt deploy either, considering my car says everything is ok. What is the purpose of airbags if they dont work? Luckily, my wife walked away without a scratch.
Saturn Outlook 2008 - The car turns off while driving. I am a mother with 4 kids and I am driving all over the places. This is my second time that I am driving with my kids the car turns off. Im terrified I will get in an accident with my kids in the car. I call to GM and and I ask whats wrong with my car? GM service department told me that I need to change my ignition... OMG!! IGNITION??? I am a AUTOMOBILE LOCKSMITH and the problem is not IGNITION.
We bought our 2008 Saturn Outlook brand new six years ago as a means to travel on family vacations and have never had a problem with it until now. Weve maintained our Outlook by doing all the right things. On the way back from our family road trip in May, we noticed a knocking sound that seemed to go away once we made it back home. Subsequent to arriving home, we got a phone call from a GM dealer, asking us if we may want to trade in the Outlook for something else (something we had been thinking about anyway). On the way to the dealership, the knocking noise came back! The dealer indicated that the Outlook could not be traded due to a possible transmission problem. Well, we took it into the dealership later that week for diagnostic/service. It was diagnosed with reverse wave plate failure (estimated cost: $3,029); possible rear cat converter problem (est. cost $712). We later took to a transmission specialist who looked it over and determined it didnt have a transmission problem and they couldnt hear the noise. However, after putting it on the road, they noticed the noise and the shifting problem and quoted a repair cost of $3,000+. We went to pick up the truck to bring it back home and it could not shift in reverse! With the help of the service men, we had to push the truck in reverse to get off the lot only to realize that it would not go forward (in speed) more than 30 miles! The truck is dead! We do not have this kind of money laying around; and with 120 k miles on the Outlook, it just doesnt seem worth it to pay for a repaired transmission and definitely not a new one at $4,034!! This is so unfortunate; because we really enjoyed our Outlook. Now were faced with hard decisions to make, while in the meantime having to deal with the inconveniences of driving one car - a 2005 Hyundai Elantra that we also bought brand new and has never given us any serious mechanical problems. I wonder where we will purchase our next vacation SUV. Buyers beware. We feel like weve been set up to be let down. Our Outlook is in great exterior/interior condition and has never been involved in an accident. Were willing to be part of a class action suit.
I bought a 2007 Saturn Ion Red Line edition car from Capital Auto Mall, on the Ford side of the building. Moments after driving the car off the dealership lot, the engine broke down resulting in a new engine being required. From that moment on there was nothing but problems with the company and very poor customer service - being ignored, phone calls not returned, questions not being answered etc.Capital did agree to replace the engine in the car. I had requested my warranty that I paid almost $3000 for to cover the repairs, and Capital refused my request and insisted they cover all the costs of the new engine, because they didnt want to blemish my warranty. They wanted to replace the engine with a used engine, with higher mileage than the original. The car only has 92,000 km. and the engine had 120,000 km. Thats at least 2 years of driving lost on that engine. I told Capital, No, I do not want that engine in my car, and I requested again that my warranty cover the cost of a new engine and, yet again, they refused, went ahead and installed the used engine anyways in their quick lane service.After that moment, I told them that I no longer want the car (this was just days after signing the papers) and I asked if they would just return the car and drop the loan. All they said was, No, you are committed to the loan. So I said, Okay, put me into a different car. They said, Sure, no problem. I took all my financing papers, everything I got for the car. Next day, they called me stating they could not get me into a different car, and that I was stuck with the Saturn and they did not return my paperwork. I asked several times to get my paperwork back and they keep saying, Yeah, yeah, we will find it and get it back to you. Still, no paperwork has been returned.The car sat outside their shop for 3 weeks before they even thought about installing this used engine. I called 2-4 times a week, and every time I talked to them, it was, Yeah, the car is coming into the shop tomorrow, but yet it never did, until I got real mad and personally went in there and complained. Finally, the car went in the shop.A couple of days went by with no word on the car, so I called probably 5-6 times and didnt get a phone call back. Finally, on the last try, someone answered the phone, and said they couldnt figure out what their tech did wrong installing the engine. It ran horrible; they checked the engine light. It was running lean. A couple more days went by. They asked me to come in to talk about the car, so I went in, and they explained to me how the warranty I paid $3000 for was voided by them due to not doing a mechanical inspection prior to selling the car, and that they would have to refund the $3000, and made me sign a paper stating this would happen. After signing, they gave me the keys and told me to have a nice day.At this point, the car was not back to its original condition. It had a slight exhaust leak under the hood; the check engine light was still on. Driving down the road, the whole front end of the car knocked and banged. I asked Capital to pull the car in the shop and check the subframe bolts but they refused and told me, Thats not going to happen. So I then took it to my own work, lifted the car up with a jack and checked the bolts myself. All the subframe bolts were loose as well as both front ball joint bolts, and every motor mount bolt was loose. The next day, I called Capital and asked them if it was a journey man tech that worked on my car. They had said yes, so I asked if I could see his papers and they replied, No. They had that subframe let go on the highway. It could have killed me and my brand new baby that was just born on January 27th, 2013, who I have in my car almost daily.I had given up on Capital and fixed the car myself. I fixed the check engine light, running issue exhaust leak, and tightened all those bolts. Two weeks later, I noticed blue smoke from the tail pipe. I contacted Capital about the warranty on the engine, and they said it would cover any and all repairs for 101 days as per SGI Auto Salvage warranty (engine was supplied by SGI Salvage). Basically every day I contacted Capital about the second replacement engine. They kept telling me they were looking for a new engine for about a week and half. Finally, they gave up looking for an engine told me that SGI themselves wanted to see what was wrong with the engine, and that if it was non-repairable, they would refund me the cost of the engine, and Capital stated they would find a different engine on their own or give me to money to locate one myself. I agreed to this, so I took the car to SGI.The next day, SGI contacted me telling me that there was no warranty on the engine due to it being heavily modified and sent me on my way. I then went right down to Capital Auto Mall, spoke to the quick lane manager and he told me basically that if SGI wont cover the engine, it was not their problem and there was nothing they could or would do for me. How is this fair to me? I didnt mod the car ... how the car sits is how it was bought from Capital. They reinstalled these parts without telling me about them. So now, basically, I was paying $15,000 for a piece of steel in my backyard that doesnt run or move and I have to pay for any and all repairs.This is why I bought that warranty for $3000 - to prevent this. It is not my fault they didnt do their job, nor have they even paid that $3000 back to me. I also paid for a propack auto service which cost close to $1000, and that service has yet to be performed. I have asked at least 15 times to get it done, and they keep telling me, Okay, okay, I will book it in and call you back. They never do call back. I even asked for a refund on the service seeing as they wont do it and got told no, that it wouldnt happen, like really!? I paid for it.It has been a complete gong show mess; I do not want this car anymore. It has been nothing but a headache and now they just straight up dont care. They wont help, wont cover any of their own work. Its complete BS. What can I do about this? Im sure I can supply more details, but for now these are the basics.
I took my Saturn into the dealership to be fixed. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor before stopping. The dealership stated that the car was not safe to drive at all and that the brake booster hose ($33.00 part) needed to be replaced.After 3 full weeks in the dealership without repair, the service department requested we call and see if we could get a part as General Motors was not able to supply the parts to fix the car. I called the parts supplier as I was told by Maria that General Motors did not have the parts for a Saturn and did not have a clue when or if they would.” She made it clear that the parts supplier wont talk to General Motors and vice versa.I asked her what GM was going to do about my predicament. She told me that I should not expect GM to have the parts for the car due to its age (Federal Law mandates parts be available for 10 years post production) and GM would do nothing to help. GM expects me to buy another car.I asked about the 10-year law and how GM was going to handle that. She stated that the part has not been discontinued and that means it is available. That backordered indefinitely leaves them within the scope of the law. I am aware of another person who has waited 14 months for GM to make the part needed for her car.
I have a 2006 Saturn ION with only 60K miles and it has been in the shop for manufacturer defects 3 times already. I paid 200 for the ignition lock in May since the key will get stuck and I could not turn car off. I am a single parent with kids and it was scary when your car is stuck. I also paid $300 for a new camshaft actuator and selenoid. Now in December another valve malfunctioned and I called customer service and they gave me the run-around. I dealt with a district specialist named Vince and one named Drew and they both laughed at me and told me I am out of warranty since it’s past the 5 year mark and there is nothing they can do even though the dealer told them on the phone that it’s a manufacturer defect. I was told by Drew from Saturn, “Sorry, these things happen…” They had promised to give me at least a 10% discount and the dealership told me that they had no documentation. They never returned my calls. I have paid over $1000 out of my pocket for manufacturer defects and this car only has 60k. It keeps failing—valve, keys, fuel pump. Help.
I have an ‘05 Saturn ION and the ignition cylinder has been nothing but problematic. Ive had the problem where the key gets stuck in the ignition while it’s running and cannot be turned off. This has happened three separate times. The first time was fixed under warranty. The second time was a little over a year ago and just recently, it happened again. The thing is, if you are getting it replaced, make sure that the cylinder is replaced with GM Part # 20869121 which is a newly designed cylinder used in other GM cars.I dont know if the technical bulletins for the ION have been updated to address this. But if they havent, do not let the dealer use the defectively designed Saturn OEM part because you will just have the same issue in the future. My recently repaired car uses the new GM part, so Im hopeful that this will be the end of the problem. You can tell the difference between the two parts because the old OEM part has sort of a dull metal finish which can be seen around the key hole when its installed, while the newer part appears shinier.
I purchased a 2002 Saturn SL2 in 2006 from an individual who kept it as a summer car. It only had 26,000 miles on it. I drove the car and loved it. In 2011, the transmission suddenly started giving problems when the car had about 77,000 miles on it. I took it to a transmission shop and they put in a rebuilt transmission. It cost me $1,500.00. Now at 114,000 miles, that transmission is doing the same thing - clunking into gear, slipping out of gear, hesitating and then suddenly clunking into gear. I have decided to get a different car even though I love my Saturn.
Saturn 2005 Ion, from neutral, when shifting to drive it engages hard. Also, coolant light on dash comes on after car is idling.
I will NEVER purchase another GM vehicle. I have a 2009 Saturn Vue with 58,100 miles that has a bad timing chain. I saw online that there has been issues with timing chains in the past. When calling, I was directed to a call center overseas. Then I asked to be directed to someone in the states and was on hold for over 45 minutes. Bottom line....nothing GM will do.
My life and my 9-week-old son and 20-Month-old Daughter are in Danger. I have had problems with my 2007 Saturn Ion since I purchased the car brand new in September of 2006. I have had about 11 cases opened with Saturn/GM within the past 5-6 years for the same issue. My cars electrical power completely shuts down while driving. I am unable to turn the wheel, use the brake or gas pedals, roll down my window, unlock the car, turn on hazard lights, or take the keys out of the ignition. After years of this happening and taking my car for service to fix this issue, there still has been nothing found that could be causing this issue and I have been left feeling unsafe driving my car. I felt after the below recalls my car would finally be fixed and the issues that have been happening for so many years had been resolved. Saturn/GM has been aware of the issues with the power shutting down to their line of vehicles. My car was repaired under the below recall, I picked it up from the dealership yesterday evening. This morning I was driving with my kids in the car, when the same exact issue happened. All power in the car stopped, I was almost sideswiped and rear ended. I am at the end of my rope. I fear for my life and for my Childrens lives. I no longer feel safe and do not trust that this issue will ever be permanently fixed. My car is back at the dealership that made the repairs and I only have a rental for one day. I have to provide for my kids and cannot keep missing work. I do not want my car anymore. I would like GM to buy back the car. Will I or my Children have to die in a car crash before GM will help resolve this issue?! I am the original owner of the car. The car only has 27,845 miles on it. These issues also happened when the car was under warranty as well. My son who just graduated and saved his money to buy his first care, brought a 1999 Saturn SL for $1000 as-is. It ran for less than 12 hours and the engine blew up. We went back to the dealer and he would not help us out at all. He said it was his problem, not the dealers problem. His first word out of his mouth was, does it have oil in it? It was really low on oil, barely showed on the dip stick we put two quarts in it and he drove it home and the next morning on his way to work, it blew a rod. We tried to get him to help us, but all he said was the car was no good to him now, so my son is out a car and $1000. Please, I just want everyone to beware of this dealer.
At a stop light, all of a sudden the clutch pedal had no effect. I bought the Vue used, so had no warranty. It seemed like a pretty good deal for the price. The dealer was fairly upfront about the issues it had (mostly minor), but while driving it today, out of nowhere, the clutch pedal had no effect! Sitting at a red light I suddenly wasnt able to get it into gear! Its ran pretty good till this and Ive owned Saturns before with minimal issues, but this was different. This time my life was in danger. Ive read lots of people with the same problems. Hope I can get it fixed without spending too much or PUTTING MY FAMILY IN DANGER AGAIN! BOOOO GM!!!
I was in a car accident today (04/21/12) and I am really upset that my airbag did not deploy. I was doing 55 MPH going to a green light and this car just decided to turn left right in front of me. We hit and my airbag did not deploy but the red light shows that it did and within seconds onStar came on right away, ambulance, state police and who knows what else. I thank God that I am alright, but really disappointed that the airbag did not deploy in my 2009 Saturn VUE, I could have been hurt really bad.
We have had numerous problems with our 2006 Saturn Vue, which all started with having to roll over extra payments from a 2005 Vue that we had multiple problems with. The first major issue we had was the torque converter, where they said they could never recreate the incident so couldnt help us.They finally replaced it (before the recall came out) and at that time, they also replaced the ignition because of the problems we were having trying to turn the key to start the car. We’re unsure if they actually replaced it or not.Now, we are once again having ignition problems and we are out of warranty. The GM dealership wants to charge me $80 for the ignition tumbler and $60 per key to recode them. That is with me installing it by the way.
2004 Saturn Ion 2 - The timing chain on my vehicle broke while I was driving to work and the car was disabled. The estimated repair is $6,000, which is more than the book value of the car. The car only had 100,000 miles on it. The repairman cant even find a rebuilt engine because the Saturn engines have all had the same problem. I bought the car new and did all of the recommended maintenance on it. I had planned on driving it for a few more years. I was told that the timing chain would last the life of the car and changing it was not necessary. This was told to me by the Saturn dealer, which of course is now out of business.
Purchased a pre-owned low mileage Sky and I absolutely love this car and wish that GM would return this to production. I would love to see this car returned to production. It is economical, comfortable and fun to drive. It is also in the lower cost class of convertibles.
Saturn Ion is a compact car with less miles than the others and it was cheaper than the other models I was looking at and its good on gas and the air conditioner works great for the money I paid for it. It has new tires and a big trunk which will help me a lot when buying for the grandkids. Good car for $600. It looks good and it drives like a new car and I like the color of the car. But needs an oil pump and windshield wipers. The cluster is in the middle of the dash which is strange and hard to get used to. Dislike the shape of the car, the driver side window will not let down and the car can only be unlocked from the passenger side.
I purchased a used 2007 Saturn Ion roughly 2 years ago. For the first year or so, I was very happy with it. Everything seemed fine until 8 months ago, when I was out running errands, came home and couldnt turn my car off. The key wouldnt budge. We had to disconnect the battery to keep it from overheating and proceeded to call a locksmith, who had to take apart my entire steering column and cut my key up just to get it out. That set me back $200. Fast forward to this afternoon, almost 8 months to the day of the last incident, and deja vu. I came home from a few errands and the key wouldnt turn at all. Thus, my car wouldnt turn off. I know its going to cost me another $200 just to get my key out. I cant afford to keep forking over this money every 8-12 months because this is something that GM hasnt put a recall on yet. Clearly, this is a huge problem with hundreds of customers of the Saturn brand. Unfortunately, I am contractually obligated to this car for another 3 years and will never purchase another GM brand vehicle again.
It was the second time the key locked, and I was unable to remove it. The first time it happened at 9,000 miles; I was over one hour from home, and drove back home. I pulled the fuse, and it was towed to the dealer. It was under warranty, and the ignition replaced. The second time it happened it was at 37,000 miles. I was in the parking lot for doctor’s appointment when it happened. I missed the appointment. I drove to the dealer, and they replaced the ignition. I paid for labor only, but am going to ask GM to pay for that too. It was very stressful and scary. The comments are that this is a defective part.
I have been battling the same issue with the ignition lock - I cant get the keys to come out immediately. I had the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch both replaced but still my keys are getting stuck in the ignition. This is making me so angry because Im still making payments on a 2005 Saturn Ion where I’ve got an extreme case of anger developing because of the manufacturing malfunction.
Recently purchased a 2001 Saturn SC2. The ignition locked in the off position and there no way I could get it to turn. I broke one key and bent a spare. Finally had to get it towed and its at a local repair shop now. I have read many complaints on this issue, but apparently GM has never issued a recall. I used to be a big GM fan, but not now.
Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?
I tried to go to our 9 pm service Christmas eve but could not get my Saturn Ion 2006 to start, or even to turn the key. This is the fourth time this has happened. I have replaced the battery and gone to a mechanic three times and am now stuck.
My 2005 Saturn Ion wont start. There is no problem with my car. It has new battery, starter, alternator. It drove just fine the night before. It snowed then in the morning it wont start. The engine lights come on and the radio and inside light but the engine wont click or make a sound of any kind. Its just not right for them to make cars with such horrible defects. I actual have had another bad experience with this car. I came out of Walmart and opened my car and started it. Was about to drive off when I realized it wasnt my car but instead the one next to it. I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. I was also informed Saturn no longer makes cars and that complaints dont hurt GM as they dont affect them. We should start a lawsuit.
My car has low miles on it and transmission went out no warning. A few times the car rolls with it being in park. Hubby check transmission fluid with car running. It jumps the park mode stats rolling towards my hubby. I press break before it ran over him. Towed car to the auto care Lee Myles in Parkersburg, WV. I called GM and told the transmission not shifting, doesnt go to drive. Now Lee Myles has had car 3 weeks, cant say whats wrong but stated could fix car for around 2000 dollars. Still wont diagnose it for itemize cost and states now going to cost 3700 dollars to fix it.. What to do? What made my car mess up? Im disabled, dont go very many places, had car 2 years now. Really like my car but being pulled so many ways between General Motors not wanting to help and Lee Myles helping themselves to my car and money. PLEASE HELP. THANKS FOR LISTENING.
My 2007 Outlook has 70,000 miles on it. I am four months past the initial warranty and my transmission suddenly died. I called our dealer where we purchased it from and was told I was past my warranty so too bad. After reading all the transmission problems online by other Saturn owners, I cant believe that a recall was not taken for the transmissions. Let the consumers worry about it GM, what a joke! You are putting peoples lives at risk and yet you dont want to take ownership of your problem. So now I am supposed to come up with several thousand dollars for a used transmission because GM will not do the right thing. This will be the last GM car Ill ever purchase. Shame on GM!
The 2006 Saturn Ion key gets stuck in the ignition. It will come out while in ACC position, but the key wont turn all the way back to off. I had no idea that this was a common problem. I am the only owner of this car. It now has 100,000 miles.
My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignition. I am a nursing student and I missed a very important meeting due to this issue. I drove to a Firestone and he said that he has fixed at least 50 Saturn Ions with this same issue this year. He also said due to Saturn parts being in an unorganized warehouse, it would take at least five to 10 business days until he would be able to receive the part. So I could be out of a car for possibly two weeks. And it will cost around $600 for repair and labor. I will also have to pay for a rental during this time! Saturn and General Motors need to be held accountable if so many consumers are having the same issue! The key of my 2007 Saturn got locked in the on position and couldnt turn off. I know other Saturn owners who have had the same problem; I found numerous complaints on the Internet.
Same as all of the rest. Key will not come out of the ignition. I had to stall the car to kill the engine and unplug a harness to kill elec. I would love to talk to a lawyer if they dont take care of this issue with a recall. I have not taken it in yet. I will not pay for a problem they made. I have removed the plastic under the steering wheel; only 1/2 would come off due to my key being stuck in the ignition. I unhooked the green harness this way. I can still use the car. I risk it being stolen with the key stuck in the ignition, but that would be a gift from God.
The anti-sway bar of my 2006 Saturn Vue snapped when making a right-hand turn at normal driving speed. The Vue was taken to the local Chevy dealership. The vehicle spent 21 days in the shop because they were unable to locate a new part. The dealership found a used part and charged the new part price. Six days later, this same part broke again, this time making a left-hand turn into my driveway. The vehicle is again in the shop.
We used my 2006 Saturn Ion to go to the store and the key wouldnt turn car off. I called Saturn roadside assistance and they said they could only tow me to the dealer. There is no recall and I would have to pay for the tow & repairs.
I bought a Saturn Outlook in 2011 and it has been one of the best SUVs that I have had. It is roomy and has a 3rd row seat. I get many compliments from my passengers on smooth ride. It is driver friendly and has excellent gas mileage driving long distance and locally! I love it.
Car overheats. Now we have oil in our water, blown head gasket? This is the second time this has happened to us and I am sick of this car. I am sick of the repairs we are constantly having to do to this car!
I was driving my VUE on the feeder road of the freeway when I came to the stop sign and as I began to take off my engine just revved up and would not go. I put it in park and turned the car off and it started up fine but when I tried to put in drive it just wouldnt move. I then had it towed to a mechanic shop and they looked at it and said it needed a new transmission which would be about 5,000. I took it to several shops and they all basically said the same thing. I was told by this one shop here in Houston, TX that there was a lawsuit against GM and I would have to pay for the repairs upfront but that GM would reimburse me. So I did a little research and I have seen several blogs on this subject but I guess I didnt do enough. I paid the repair shop $4900.00 to fix the transmission and still it doesnt run right. I have had to take it back to them 2 times for them to fix the transmission. GM should pay for the repair costs and there shouldnt be a time limit when we could have filed a claim. Im sure there are more Saturn cars that will be having the same problem in the future and were going to be stuck paying more for repairs than the car is probably worth.
Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. It cost me $85.00 for less than a 1/5 of a mile because the transmission went out again; twice in 170,000 miles.
After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook, I am finally resolved to never purchase another GM product. Beginning around 60,000 miles, I began mentioning the popping sound in my steering column. Unfortunately, I did not insist the service department to document and pursue a resolution to the problem. I was told on every occasion that this was normal until the vehicle warmed up. The noise did seem to quiet somewhat, so I thought their assessment had some merit. I was just told this week that this issue would indeed worsen and my repair cost is approximately $1,300. This is in addition to my heater and A/C unit being completely overhauled to the sum of close to $600. I have already replaced both the skylight and sunroof at a significant cost. All these issues happened prior to 100,000 miles.I contacted GM customer service/Calvin to request assistance and was given no consideration at all, even with the internet full of TSBs and complaints about these exact problems on this vehicle. After this experience, I am completely disgusted with the pride in workmanship of this GM product and have a much better understanding of why GM should be out of business today. Unfortunately, we the taxpayers will get to continue carrying this burden for many more years to come. My total loss including glass, heat/AC and steering column is listed below. Never again!
Saturn aura xr v6 3.5L issues - At 90k miles, check engine light came on after an oil change. Service traction comes on along with check engine light when stopping, it does this intermittently. After changing spark plugs, water pump, power steering pump that leaked, cylinder 6 ignition coil, the issues are still there.
I had heard in the original Saturn series of bad engines, but I had acquired a 2005 which is a later series. I had a wait and see attitude about it, it reached 142,000 miles before the transmission slipped. The mechanics had told me that it would cost about $600 just to open it up and assess the problem...not including any repairs. At that point it would have cost nearly what the car was worth at that point. Before that there were few repair problems.
Please do not buy any Saturns. They are deadly! I purchased this car last year and all I had was problems and recalls. My door locks would go up and down while driving every other day. But when I take it to the shop, then it would stop. They couldnt fix it because they couldnt see the problem. Then my check tire pressure light would come on. I took it to the shop, the tire pressure was fine. Then the auto-theft light would come on and off. Basically the car had a mind of its own. I drove the car about 10 miles today, parked, walked across the street and it was up in smoke. The fire department said it started from the engine. Has this happened to anyone else? This car was a problem from day one. I would stay away from buying any Saturn cars, period!
Like so many others here, my key often gets sucked in the ignition of my 2004 Saturn Ion and either a) wont start for 15 minutes, or b) wont release after I try to turn the car off. Twice, the ignition turned off while I was driving down the freeway. Today, I had the added fun of the key locking in the ACC position and it wont turn off. I had to remove a fuse to turn the engine off. I have replaced the ignition column (I believe it is what my mechanic called it) as the key was already getting stuck and would not release the key unless I waited several minutes and would not start for 15 to 20 minutes much of the time. That was about 8 months ago. Clearly this did not help much. I cannot emphasize enough what a piece of garbage this car is. I will never own another GM car as a direct result of my experience with it. I have poured an insane amount of money into it to correct a wide variety of defects but I am done. It isnt worth repairing one more time. It is too bad that American made equals garbage.
Bought a 2009 Saturn Outlook last year with 64,000 miles. Beautiful car and body in really good shape. Loaded with everything you could think of. 2 weeks after having it, it would make all kinds of noise when turning and sound really ruff. Took it to a GM dealer and it was completely out of oil. They could not find any leaks or that is was burning oil. Needless to say putting oil in it was a once a month thing.Steering went out - had to pay $1900 to get that and the rack and pinion repaired. One week later we lost all power to the car driving down the mountains in Virginia. Spent $1,000 to get it towed back to Ohio to spend another $100 to put on analyser. Now they are saying we have to pay another 1500 for GM to tear it down so GM specialist can look at it since they still cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I still owe on this car and they said once they figure out whats wrong it could cost another 4 to 5 thousand to fix it. This has been the biggest headache. I cant believe we spend the money we do on cars and they dont even last 5 YEARS.
Ive owned my Saturn Ion for 6 years. About 2.5 years ago I discovered that my key would get stuck in the ignition of the vehicle after turning the car off. The engine shuts off, but the power (lights and radio) remains on. I called Saturn and they told me to bring it in. At this time, I had driven about 58000 miles and was still under waranty. They acknowledged the issue (in writing) and said the entire ignition piece of the car had to be replaced. They also said they would have to order the parts. I took my car back while they ordered the parts. After about a month, I called asking when the part would be in because I hadnt heard anything. They told me Oh, the part came in yesterday. You can bring the car back and well fix it. I brought the car back and since I was now over 60000 miles, they said I was no longer under warranty, and the job would cost more than $500. I argued that they documented the issue while I was still under warranty with no success. The Saturn mechanic said I should have called for the part sooner, and that if I had ordered a pizza and it was not delivered in an hour, would I not call before a month had gone by to check on it? I told him he was full of it since he told me the part had just come in yesterday. He then told me that I should have stopped driving the car to keep the milage under 60000. I told him it was my only car to which he responded I would have paid to rent a car rather than pay $500 to have my car fixed. I told him had I known his willingness to pay, I would have called him and allowed him to rent one and pay the bill for me. Needless to say, I refused to pay for the work, and never got my car fixed. I took the complaint to corporate only to have the complaint closed out with no solution and no notification. I opened another one, and yet again got no solution. Eventually (after about a year of argument), they told me they would perform the job for $100 plus parts. I told them that Saturn would never get another dime of my money and did not take them up on their so-called offer.
This GM consumer is appalled that GM has chosen not to issue a recall, knowing the automatic CVT transmission in the Saturn Vue 4 cylinder vehicles are known by GM to totally fail while in operation. My Saturn Vue has 130,000 km on it and is sitting in my backyard unusable from transmission failure. GM has announced NO MORE CRAPPY CARS. Well what about our lives, and the safety of our families and love ones? GM received a lot of BAILOUT money literally from taxpayers, and this is how they are treating those people who put their lives in the hands of someone who obviously holds profit and shareholders interests above all else.
In 2006, I purchased a new 2006 Saturn Ion. I loved it at the time, but since then have had numerous problems. It is a lemon. I had to have the ignition system replaced because my key would get stuck in it every time I turned the car off. It is now doing this again. I have had the entire computer system replaced twice because all the gauges went hay wire while driving and wouldnt stop. Recently this has started happening again. Two years ago, my automatic windows stopped rolling down, then suddenly started working again for about 2 months, and now dont work. Talk about fun when going through a drive through and having to open your door because your windows dont work. My cigarette lighter fuse has to be replaced about once every 3 months because it shorts out. Last week I was adjusting my rear view mirror and it just fell off. It didnt come unglued from the window, but the ball and socket joint somehow broke and cant be fixed except by ordering a completely new mirror because for some reason you cant order that one little plastic part that broke. For the last year my gas gauge has been completely inaccurate. After filling up completely it says I only have 1/2 tank of gas and after driving for 20 minutes my gauge is on empty. So I have to rely on my low fuel message to come on, which Im sure wont be long before that breaks as well. The only good thing is that I havent had any engine trouble...yet.
I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. This is the second time that the ignition has locked. I got the car in 2007 and in 2009, it locked. It was still under warranty so I took it in and had to pay $50 for them to look at it. They replaced the ignition and the cylinder. It is now 2011 and I am having the same problem. I just got it replaced last week for $175. My car is no longer under warranty so I had to pay out of pocket, not to mention that I no longer have a job and I am still making payments. After getting it fixed last week, it started getting stuck again today. I will be filing a complaint and will be calling Saturn tomorrow. I hate this car now and I will never get a Saturn or GM ever again!
I went to the Saturn dealership to get my oil changed and they charged me. I bought this with the lifetime oil lube and filter included in the price. The service technician informed me that they dont honor that anymore. My question is, Where was the letter to the owners of Saturn Ions?The next point I would like to make is about the ignition switch. This point was brought up to the Saturn dealership as well. No response. Crappy service=GM. This is the last GM product I will own!
I bought a new Saturn Ion l series and after 4 years, the key begins to stick in the ignition whenever I turn off the car. Regardless what I do it just did not release the key. Sometimes it releases it and then I would hope it doesnt happen but it did. After experiencing this more times than I can count, I drove to the dealer only to be told it would cost me 800+ dollars to get it fixed. I used my car to get to and from work and couldnt walk away. Thank God I had a credit card!!!! They fixed the problem and now years after, I have the same problem occurring again.I agree with many of the owners that GM should have a recall on these Saturns. I do not have any money to pay GM another 400 dollars for repairs that will fail again! In order to prevent the battery from running out, I disconnect the battery when I am at home or when go out. What a job! Anyone can take my car as the key is always sticking out there in the ignition.
I chose this Saturn Ion due to cost and availability at the time. I was not familiar this brand of vehicle before purchasing. But the size of the car and the cost was what I needed. Plus the vehicle was very good on gas mileage. But I did not like the car. Disliked the battery compartment in the trunk. I did not like that most of the parts where cheap plastic that wasnt durable. And I ended up having a lot of problems with the wiring system and also the headlights. As soon as I would replace the bulbs, within a few days they would stop working on the passenger side.
New engine at 106,000. We just bought the Saturn 2008 Outlook at 76,000 less than 2 years ago. We have already put in $600 in fixes, and now we found out the engine needs to be replaced for $5000. This car has been a total lemon. Researching the v6 3.6 lt engine we have found out that it is a piece of junk.
I have a 2004 Saturn Ion I purchased new. I am on my third try fixing the ignition. I had worked on it in August 2011, June 2012 and now. The dealership has replaced twice in two days the ignition housing, switch and other things; and it still will not work. I have been working on spending $2,000 on this issue. Twice, I could not turn the key and had it towed, and once, it would not shut off.
We have a 2008 Saturn Aura, it has 80 thousand miles. One day, the wife was driving it. It made a noise and bam, the car died. I talk to some people and they said it was the timing chain. So we took in to get looked at and the garage said they took off one of the valve covers off, and all the valves were broke in half. Its going to cost a lot of money. This stinks.
I reached out to GM today after my second door jam mechanism failed and I see over 900 complaints lodged as such in this models year (2006 VUE). Despite the obvious safety issue I was told I was on my own. The door(s) eventually will not close as the jam mechanism fails so the door is subject to swinging open while the vehicle is in use. This is not an inexpensive fix and must be taken to a body shop. I will need all 4 door mechanisms replaced as I will not risk the other two failing as well.
Key was stuck, it wont turn to full off. I cant get power to fully turn it off.
Saturn vue 2008, 80000 miles, transmissions than, + many problems and noise in front end.
My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone!This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?
I purchased a 2007 Aura, and was told it was recently serviced after two weeks. I was told that the struts were shot in it, and its in need of new tires. I also had to change the brakes right away. The total cost would exceed $1,000.00. I was told by the dealership that the car was in great condition, nothing wrong with it. And the warning light that was on was an indication of low tire pressure. That light stayed on even after air was put into the tires.
I have a 2007 Ion and it has been the best car I have ever owned. I have not had a minutes trouble out of it. I am so sad that they quit making Saturns. From the salesman to the service department it was the best experience ever. I have 96,000 miles. I bought it with 7 miles on it. There has been a recall on it but it was taken care of in an expeditious manner. I heard in the news media that there may be an airbag issue but I have not received a letter. I have had three Saturns.
Like many hundreds of Saturn owners, our ignition has gotten stuck on the on position as well. I figured out where the fuse was to turn it off. But I will need to replace the ignition when I have the money. Its a major inconvenience and a huge safety issue. I am very disappointed that Saturn has not recalled this part.
My wife was unable to turn off the engine on her 2006 Ion. The key was stuck in the ignition in the on position. She had to take time off work to take it to a mechanic. Im surprised to see that this is such a widespread problem and there has been no recall. I will probably never buy another GM vehicle.
My Saturn was purchased used with 49k on it at a Saturn dealership as a certified pre-owned vehicle. That was 13.5 years ago in 2000, to now currently Aug 2014. I have replace brakes in it twice on the front, once on the rear. I forgot how many sets of tires I have had on it. At 90k I put on a new set of struts totally making the ride awesome and feeling like a new car. I have hit 2 deer and 1 deer has ran into the side of the car. The deer collisions I was able to almost stop before hitting them. The shroud that runs under the car for the A/C cooling is now gone because of that. The result is that the A/C does not work super great unless the car is moving in a forward motion. Just sitting in the hot sun at idle with the cooling fan running though the A/C will blow out the vents at about 47 deg. F. It goes down to 40 deg. while rolling down the road. To me this is satisfactory as I dont sit idle for long. Also during the deer collisions the A/C condenser was bent so it almost touches the radiator, it did not leak so Im not messing with it. I installed an hour meter into the vehicle and change my oil every 125 hours. This usually works out to about 3200-4700 miles. It started to use a quart of oil about every oil change when the car had about 165k on it. I then switched from Castrol conventional oil to Castrol High Mileage. Now it uses about a 1/4 quart every oil change. I have noticed that it uses more oil in town than if I cruise down the highway. Also most of the miles I have put on the car are highway miles. I flushed/replaced coolant, replaced the outer tie rod ends not because of wear but because the rubber seal started to crack at 182k. I have had to put on a new catalytic converter at about 88k, replaced the muffler and rear pipe section at 182k. Replace manual trans fluid at 100k and at 182k. Have replace the fuel filter 2 times (should have done this more often). It has 30k on the newest filter so will change it soon. I replace the air filter about every 15k depending on the roads I drive on. Everyone I know says to give them my old air filter because I change them so often. I dont mind, I believe that a good supply of air is the key to the 37-42 mpg on hwy and 27-30 mpg city. Saturn of SLC said the ECTS had to be replaced when the car was replaced at 88k. I have had to replace it one additional time at 160k. When it is really cold outside the engine will idle high when stopping until sitting for a few seconds. Im not replacing the ECTS again as I think this is a normal Saturn thing at really cold temperatures. Also while at Saturn of SLC, they told me that my fuel pump was bad and would replace it for $800. All that is wrong is the check valve is bad. If the key is turned to run then wait about 5 seconds, the fuel pump will bring the system up to pressure and the car starts great. Only problems I have is if someone else uses my car, they get in and turn the key to start right away and it cranks but does not start because of the lack of fuel. To me this is not an issue as every vehicle I have ever owned I turn the key to run, listen for the fuel pump to stop then start. So to save $800 all one has to do is this. 1 get into vehicle, 2 insert key and turn to run, 3 fasten seat belt, 4 start the vehicle. It will be up to pressure by time the seat belt is put on. Oh, and one more thing, the windshield in this car is awesome. I have had some large size rocks fall off trucks and hit the window directly. The angle is just right that they bounce over the car. Mine is pitted from many miles of highway driving but still satisfactory. The other day 205k, it was really hot in the car. I went to shift into reverse, the plastic shifter bushing broke. I was told this usually breaks around 70k so I carried an extra in the glove box. It is made by Dorman ($4). Also the other day my A/C evaporator drain plugged up 205k, easy fix, take an ink pen and stick it in the drain hole, the system drains fine now. That sums up the history of my Saturn for the 157k that I have owned it.I have also owned a 1991 Saturn SL1 Manual trans had an alternator issue at around 7k and was covered by warranty/recall. The starter went bad at 12k. Changed the oil every 3000 miles then at 64k the ex took it in the divorce. No known other issues. A 2004 ION3 Coupe Auto trans. Had a power module go bad at 65k. Dont remember the resolution. Lost the car to another ex. Moms car, a 1998 Saturn SL1, clutch master cyl went bad at 118k. No other known issues. She gave it to brother and he sold it because money burns hole in his pockets.Moms car, a 2001 Saturn SC2 manual trans - she changes oil when the dash light tells her to. I did replace the trans fluid for her in it. Around 50k starter went bad. Re-manufactured started installed and that one went bad at 88k. Replaced again under starter warranty oreilly auto parts. Replaced and brother has the car. He called and said there is a exhaust leak around exhaust manifold 93k. I have not looked at it but to me this is a minor issue. Note, this car has almost all miles city driving to the bank or store and back which are VERY HARD on the car. I hope that I helped someone out with this review.
