I purchased my 2003 Saturn Ion used, and since the day I bought the car, I have had nothing but problems. I have had to replace the ignition switch about 3 times. Now each time, I had to pay for it. I am getting so frustrated, and I am very dissatisfied. I will never purchase another GM car in my life, and I will tell all of my friends and family to never purchase a GM car again. I will never purchase another Saturn in my life either. I just wish someone would help me with this issue. It seems like whoever I talk to does not want to help. Maybe, I need to get an attorney and see what they have to say. I do not feel safe driving my car, especially with my kids. And the worst part is that I still owe on this car that just gives me problems.

I fell in love with the Saturn VUEs when they first came out with them in 2000. I wanted one so bad. In 2002, I was in an accident in my 1995 Saturn Sedan with a tractor trailer. After 2 years of lawyers fees, I had enough settlement left over to buy a 2003 Saturn VUE. It was exactly what I was looking for, the color & all. I didnt care about the size of the motor. I was excited to be able to buy the car I wanted. Last year, I started hearing a noise coming from the motor that turned out to be the timing chain. Just recently, I had to take it off the road to keep it from blowing the motor. The 1995 Saturn was just taken off the road a couple weeks before with shot piston rings after 135k miles. We are now down to borrowing my father-in-laws truck, leaving us with no vehicle for me to take my kids to their doctors appointment while my husband is at work. I have to drum up $700.00 to replace a timing chain that Saturn knew had problems way back when.I understand that Saturn is out of business, but they are still repaired by GM parts. With all the complaints that I have been reading, you would think that GM would figure out in the long run that it would probably be cheaper to fix the problems rather than wait for the government to finally force a law suit causing more money to be paid out.I still love my Saturn VUE even though the transmission will most likely go out yet. But I have had this car for 6.5 years now & this is the first major problem I have had with it. Many others of you have had major problems from the start. I just want mine fixed. I just dont feel I should be responsible to pay for the problem GM knew was there.

I loved my Saturn until now. The first thing that it started doing was the oil pressure light came on saying oil pressure low, turn engine off. I pulled over and turned the engine off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Message was gone. Then a couple days later the stabilitrak error message came up saying traction control off service stabilitrak. Engine speed decreasing. Couldnt go above 20 mph. Turned car off. Restarted car error message gone. Then transmission started slipping until it wouldnt go out of 2nd gear. Took the car to the shop and 4000.00 dollars later the transmission was replaced. Now one week later, the stabilitrak message came back on while driving home today and in a curve the steering wheel locked up. This car is horrible. I have never had this many problems out of a car before. Back to the shop where Im sure I will have to break the bank. Again! Saturn needs to make a recall on these cars. How many complaints about the same thing has to be posted before they actually do something about it. Never again. I will tell everyone to avoid buying a GM product.

My 2007 Outlook has 70,000 miles on it. I am four months past the initial warranty and my transmission suddenly died. I called our dealer where we purchased it from and was told I was past my warranty so too bad. After reading all the transmission problems online by other Saturn owners, I cant believe that a recall was not taken for the transmissions. Let the consumers worry about it GM, what a joke! You are putting peoples lives at risk and yet you dont want to take ownership of your problem. So now I am supposed to come up with several thousand dollars for a used transmission because GM will not do the right thing. This will be the last GM car Ill ever purchase. Shame on GM!

I started smelling gas in my 2006 Saturn Ion in October of 2016 and took into a local service center to have it checked. They informed me that it was the fuel pump and it needed to be replaced right away. Well in my mind all I was thinking is my car could catch on fire so I agreed and they did the repairs on 11/11/2016 to the tune of $437.79. Later I find out that this was a special coverage recall and that my local dealer would have did the job at no cost to me. I called customer care and explained that I felt like this was an emergency and was not thinking about my local dealership which is 20 miles away. She gave me a case # and told me to get a reimbursement form from dealership and submit the papers and surely they could do something. Well I sent paperwork off in January 2017 and now in March since I have not heard anything I decided to contact them. They informed me that my claim was denied and that my vehicle still has the coverage so if it happens again take it to the dealership. I told her how upset I was and this was awful that I am out off pocket for something that was their fault. My car is 11 years old with 104,050 miles on it and the cap for the coverage is I think 150,000 miles. I would hope that a fuel pump would last longer than a few thousand miles. I have had nothing but problem with this car from the moment I bought it and I agree with everyone else about never owning another GM!!

I have a 2008 Saturn Vue. At 80,000, the transmission went out, I assumed that when Saturn went out of business so did the bumper to bumper powertrain warranty. Weeks after having the transmission rebuilt, I found that the warranty work is still done. So I called a Saturn dealer in Utah to see if there was a possibility to be reimbursed for the cost of the rebuild. The dealership sent me a form and I got the paperwork together and sent it to GM. Fairly quickly, I got a call saying that our vehicle did not fall under a recall. I told the person from GM that I knew it wasnt a recall but a warranty issue. The GM rep referred me back to the dealership. The dealership told me that there is no other option. I am not out to get money, just an answer to why nothing could be done and is there anything that really could be?

Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. It cost me $85.00 for less than a 1/5 of a mile because the transmission went out again; twice in 170,000 miles.

We have a 2006 Saturn Ion which has been involved in front end accidents twice. Neither time have the airbags deployed. The mechanic stated that the pins that activate deployment were fully depressed and the bags should have deployed. My son could have been killed. After the first accident, I contacted on-star to ask why they hadnt communicated with the car after the accident and why the air bags had not deployed. The answer was that maybe the sensor wasnt hit! Are you kidding me? The whole front end of the car is pushed halfway to the windshield! This matter should be looked into. Someone could easily be killed due to these malfunctions.

I bought a 2006 Saturn ion. It was really torn up but I was told it ran great. The cost to repair has been costly. Since they dont make this car any longer the parts are a little harder to find. I have only just begun repairs and $2000 is just the tip of the ice cap. I still have 6 payments left and several thousands left in repairs. Drive and look before you buy.

Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?

I purchased 1995 Saturn with 63,000 miles in 2010. The car reached 75,000 miles on Dec 2011. The cylinder head cracked and needs to replaced for approximate cost of $2000.00. Research shows cars from 1992-1999 had a cylinder head defect in the design and Saturn extended the warranty to 100,000 miles but due to the age of the car, GM will not help out with repair cost. Read from other customers, no one got help. GM does not acknowledge the warranty. I just want consumers to know Saturn cars may look good, have low mileage but after 50,000 miles, trouble awaits around the corner.

I purchased a 2007 Saturn Outlook two years ago. During this time, my car was still under full warranty. I addressed to Saturn over and over that there was something wrong with the steering wheel; it shook and clicked. They kept saying it was fine and just some air in it. I also kept saying that there was hesitation in the engine and electrical issues, all this while it was under full warranty. They are now fixing the transmission and oil leak for the second time and also, the air bag sensor doesnt work and had not for over a year and GM is saying that they will not fix that or the broken steering column even though I have tried to have it fixed for two years. I have all my documents. Now, they are saying to go pick up the car or we have to pay for the rental because they cant help us yet and probably will not pay for the steering column or air bag sensor. This car has been a lemon since I bought it and I owe a lot on it and for the past week, I have been trying to get GM to fix those two items.

On January 4, 2012, I tried to start my car and it would not start. On the first incident, I had it towed to Firestone who has done all the work on my Saturn 2005 Ion 3 since the warranty expired. The steering wheel column had to be removed to get the key out of the ignition and the battery was replaced. On the second incident, I had it towed again to Firestone. The mechanic was able to start it. He began to research problems with Saturns and found the ignition problem. He advised me to take it to Saturn for an ignition replacement.

For this past year, I have been battling with my 2004 Ion. First, it started with having a hard time starting in colder mornings. Then it took longer and longer to get it going. Finally, I took it in and spent $1,000 for a new timing belt and it was fine for a short while. I took it in again and spent another grand on a new ignition. Within 48 hours of that service, my key has gotten stuck in the ignition and would not allow the car to be turned off. My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignition. I am a nursing student and I missed a very important meeting due to this issue. I drove to a Firestone and he said that he has fixed at least 50 Saturn Ions with this same issue this year. He also said due to Saturn parts being in an unorganized warehouse, it would take at least five to 10 business days until he would be able to receive the part. So I could be out of a car for possibly two weeks. And it will cost around $600 for repair and labor. I will also have to pay for a rental during this time! Saturn and General Motors need to be held accountable if so many consumers are having the same issue! The key of my 2007 Saturn got locked in the on position and couldnt turn off. I know other Saturn owners who have had the same problem; I found numerous complaints on the Internet.

We bought our 2008 Saturn Outlook brand new six years ago as a means to travel on family vacations and have never had a problem with it until now. Weve maintained our Outlook by doing all the right things. On the way back from our family road trip in May, we noticed a knocking sound that seemed to go away once we made it back home. Subsequent to arriving home, we got a phone call from a GM dealer, asking us if we may want to trade in the Outlook for something else (something we had been thinking about anyway). On the way to the dealership, the knocking noise came back! The dealer indicated that the Outlook could not be traded due to a possible transmission problem. Well, we took it into the dealership later that week for diagnostic/service. It was diagnosed with reverse wave plate failure (estimated cost: $3,029); possible rear cat converter problem (est. cost $712). We later took to a transmission specialist who looked it over and determined it didnt have a transmission problem and they couldnt hear the noise. However, after putting it on the road, they noticed the noise and the shifting problem and quoted a repair cost of $3,000+. We went to pick up the truck to bring it back home and it could not shift in reverse! With the help of the service men, we had to push the truck in reverse to get off the lot only to realize that it would not go forward (in speed) more than 30 miles! The truck is dead! We do not have this kind of money laying around; and with 120 k miles on the Outlook, it just doesnt seem worth it to pay for a repaired transmission and definitely not a new one at $4,034!! This is so unfortunate; because we really enjoyed our Outlook. Now were faced with hard decisions to make, while in the meantime having to deal with the inconveniences of driving one car - a 2005 Hyundai Elantra that we also bought brand new and has never given us any serious mechanical problems. I wonder where we will purchase our next vacation SUV. Buyers beware. We feel like weve been set up to be let down. Our Outlook is in great exterior/interior condition and has never been involved in an accident. Were willing to be part of a class action suit.

After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook
After many complaints about the steering issues with my 2008 Saturn Outlook, I am finally resolved to never purchase another GM product. Beginning around 60,000 miles, I began mentioning the popping sound in my steering column. Unfortunately, I did not insist the service department to document and pursue a resolution to the problem. I was told on every occasion that this was normal until the vehicle warmed up. The noise did seem to quiet somewhat, so I thought their assessment had some merit. I was just told this week that this issue would indeed worsen and my repair cost is approximately $1,300. This is in addition to my heater and A/C unit being completely overhauled to the sum of close to $600. I have already replaced both the skylight and sunroof at a significant cost. All these issues happened prior to 100,000 miles.I contacted GM customer service/Calvin to request assistance and was given no consideration at all, even with the internet full of TSBs and complaints about these exact problems on this vehicle. After this experience, I am completely disgusted with the pride in workmanship of this GM product and have a much better understanding of why GM should be out of business today. Unfortunately, we the taxpayers will get to continue carrying this burden for many more years to come. My total loss including glass, heat/AC and steering column is listed below. Never again!

I took my 2006 Saturn Vue to Larry Green dealership for simple diagnosis. 2 hours later, I found out that they ran a compression test with the cover off of my timing belt. The belt slipped and bent the valves. This was the beginning of all my major problems. They kept the car for 2 months trying to correct their mistakes. I got the car back and it was never the same. I took it back 2 times, then I didnt see my car for 3 more months, getting the runaround about parts. There were several mechanics working on my car within those months that are now no longer there. I finally got my car back, after they ruined it telling me to go to another GM dealer to have them fix what they couldnt. This car was a great car with 65,000 miles, not even 5 years old, and I am still paying for it at the tune of $29,000. The body and interior are still like new. I take very good care of my vehicles and I have had a Saturn for 21 years.

Ive had this car now for about 9 mos. Its been a pretty good car until the last 2 weeks. The a/c was the 1st to go out (when I 1st got it). I had everything replaced, then about 2 mos. later, the a/c went out again. So, 2 weeks ago, the stereo stopped playing, it says to check the wiring. In the past week, all these new things started. I now smell gas fumes, when we hit the door locks, the headlights go out and back on. Last night, I put the car in reverse, and the lights went out and back on. Sometimes, when I put it in reverse, the gas gauge drops from 1/2 tank to empty. Other times, after refueling, I leave the pump with the empty gas light on. I make sure the gas cap is on tight before I leave the station. Two days now, the security light comes on, so today, I replaced the battery in the wireless remote, and stopped @ Autozone to have the cars battery checked & it is fine. A few months ago, I was having a problem with the car stalling out when I backed up, but after hearing about the ignition switch recall & GM, I tried something that works. I took the key off my keyring. There are no other keys on it, the added weight of a few other keys, was messing with the ignition switch. Im pretty sure my problem is with some loose wiring, I read that with the Saturn, the a/c condenser hose pops off, and read theres no hope for the gas smell. I just pray the car doesnt go up in flames. Oh, and have had a few problems with the tail lights too. And a few weeks ago, I couldnt get the trunk lock to catch after checking the problem with the brake/tall-light problem. I didnt know until today that Saturn is a GM product, cause I promise you had I known, I would never have bought it. Ford held their own, GM bailed out.

The latest problem is the misfiring related to the engine light going on and no one finding the problems. The dealer I bought it from or an outside shop.. brought back 4 to six times to each and finally both did something with no charge. Going for second recall still have to keep horn disconnected due to it going off like an alarm. As per the electrical Issue they could not diagnose and still have to go for second recall for key getting stuck in ignition. There seems to be no end in sight and no one is able to help even the place I bought it from. It was owned by one guy before me who took excellent care and apparently they said traded it to upgrade. I feel I made a huge mistake and am in a money pit and they all know it and this car should be taken back.

I have had this car (2005 Ion) for about 2 years now and I like it; however, the ignition is very temperamental and sometimes I have to fiddle and finesse with the ignition so I can remove the key. It hasn’t screwed me so far, but I know it’s only a matter of time before it probably will. GM needs to recognize this problem and should have it recalled. Another fellow who wrote a review said to use part number 20869121 instead of the OEM part, which is the same piece of junk that’s in it now and will only give you the same problem.

I have been having the same issues as the rest of you with my 2004 Saturn Ion. I did have the key wont turn off the car problem after just a couple of years and got it fixed, supposedly something to do with the starter. It started doing it again not too long after it was fixed. It has continued to do it off and on. Key is stuck, wont turn car off. I play with the steering wheel and shift stick until it goes back into place and key will turn. Now today, it started letting me slip the key out of the ignition after I thought it was turned off, but car isnt off and now the doors are locked. The button to open the doors wont work. Literally you are locked in the car, save for the back doors manual opener. I had to climb out the back seat of my car tonight. I think the car is turned off, but guess I will find out in the morning. To top all of that off, the a/c wont work now and if I turn it on, it smells like my car is bursting into flames, so I have kept it off. From what I see here, I just need to find another car. It was a nice cheap car, so I thought, but so many things went wrong so quickly. I should have traded it back in. Rest of problems: power windows, Ive had 4 or 5 radios replaced, clock on car cant be changed, headlight recall. Good thing they dont make them any more, because I wouldnt buy one anyway. Now I am going to have to buy another car that I cant afford at this time.

I too have a 1999 Saturn, and my son was driving and it started to jerk. He had to pull over on the side of the road and found that the car would not go into any gears. He had no neutral on it. I had the car towed to a local garage, and the mechanic said it was a transmission problem. I had to have it towed to a transmission shop where they said it would be anywhere from $900 to $1500 to fix it. Now I am reading about all these other customers that have a Saturn, and it is bound to happen again. I think Saturn should have a recall to replace these faulty transmissions. I always thought Saturn was respectable company, but now, I just dont know.

My Saturn Outlook 2008 has had water pump replaced at 30,000 miles, solenoid replaced around the same time. Multiple transmission wave plate issues requiring rebuild 3 times, fortunately all covered by warranty but the last time I had to pay to have transmission flushed. Power windows work sometime by me, sometime by the passengers. Presently I have 111,000 miles on the car. The tranny is extremely delicate. Being that it has failed me 3 times, I know how to go easy on it so it lasts. I am the only one who drives my car because it is very temperamental. Oh yeah I recently replace front grill because one morning I woke up and it had a rippled appearance. $250.00. Car looks good inside and out, costed me $515/month for 6 years. The biggest mistake ever, but it is very appealing to the eye. People love the car. If they only knew what a heap of crap it was. My 1998 Lexus E300 is more dependable, and cost me $3500, used. My issues were communicated to Saturn/GM. They did nothing interesting but take down the complaints.

Bought a 2009 Saturn Outlook last year with 64,000 miles. Beautiful car and body in really good shape. Loaded with everything you could think of. 2 weeks after having it, it would make all kinds of noise when turning and sound really ruff. Took it to a GM dealer and it was completely out of oil. They could not find any leaks or that is was burning oil. Needless to say putting oil in it was a once a month thing.Steering went out - had to pay $1900 to get that and the rack and pinion repaired. One week later we lost all power to the car driving down the mountains in Virginia. Spent $1,000 to get it towed back to Ohio to spend another $100 to put on analyser. Now they are saying we have to pay another 1500 for GM to tear it down so GM specialist can look at it since they still cannot figure out what is wrong with it. I still owe on this car and they said once they figure out whats wrong it could cost another 4 to 5 thousand to fix it. This has been the biggest headache. I cant believe we spend the money we do on cars and they dont even last 5 YEARS.

I have a 2005 Vue with a standard transmission. Today, for the 5th time, I went to get into the car and the key would not go in the ignition. I called my old Saturn dealer (now Cadillac) and one of the techs told me to turn the wheel as far as I could to the right and then back to the left (then go back and forth with the wheel rocking it) until the steering column locked. Once that happened, I had to release the lever for the tilt feature on the steering wheel and jam it up and down as hard as I could in the hopes that the movement would realign the pins in the tumblers which would allow the key entry. When that still didnt help, I turned the locked steering column as hard as I could to the left and tried inserting the key. Success finally! I drove home from work. But when I got out of the car in the garage, I tried to reinsert the key again and the ignition would not accept it. So Im hoping I can repeat the above routine just so I can get to the dealer to have the entire assembly replaced. Quote is $325. This should not be happening. With all the reading I have done about GM moving so much of its operations to China, I dont think they really care about us leftover Saturn owners. Never again!

I purchased a 2008 saturn aura xr in May 2013. The first night I realized my alarm and locks didnt work unless I pulled up to unlock each door or pushed the lock on each door down to lock the car which is just irritating. Then 2 days later the left tire sensor went out, 3 weeks after getting the car my check engine light, service esc and traction control came on. We thought those issues were taken care of when I took car back to dealership but here I am 10 different shops later & no one can tell me whats wrong with my car. The car turns on & off while driving making me lose all power steering power brakes & its scary. Ignition lock light randomly comes on. Car will start freaking out while Im driving it with 2 kids in rear facing car seats in the back & Im terrified I will get in an accident with my kids in the car & not one shop can tell me what is wrong with my vehicle. Just got car back after it being in shop for 7 weeks & its worse than its ever been. I cant drive this car. Its not safe, it has a mind of its own & the dash board & everything electrical goes crazy while Im driving the car. Ive contacted saturn & email, called anyone I could. All saturn did was pay for them to diagnose my car & diagnoses was nothing was wrong. I have a video of my gas gauge jumping up & down & everything going crazy on dash board while Im driving the car. My key gets stuck in my Saturn Ion ignition switch. It turns as far back that the car turns off but that the radio is still on. This problem has caused my battery to die a few times but for the most part, it is just a pain to remember to go back for my key before bed. Sometimes it will come out within seconds; other times, it is several hours. As I read on this site and a few others, it is a big issue. I wish they would issue a recall. Ive owned my Saturn Ion for 6 years. About 2.5 years ago I discovered that my key would get stuck in the ignition of the vehicle after turning the car off. The engine shuts off, but the power (lights and radio) remains on. I called Saturn and they told me to bring it in. At this time, I had driven about 58000 miles and was still under waranty. They acknowledged the issue (in writing) and said the entire ignition piece of the car had to be replaced. They also said they would have to order the parts. I took my car back while they ordered the parts. After about a month, I called asking when the part would be in because I hadnt heard anything. They told me Oh, the part came in yesterday. You can bring the car back and well fix it. I brought the car back and since I was now over 60000 miles, they said I was no longer under warranty, and the job would cost more than $500. I argued that they documented the issue while I was still under warranty with no success. The Saturn mechanic said I should have called for the part sooner, and that if I had ordered a pizza and it was not delivered in an hour, would I not call before a month had gone by to check on it? I told him he was full of it since he told me the part had just come in yesterday. He then told me that I should have stopped driving the car to keep the milage under 60000. I told him it was my only car to which he responded I would have paid to rent a car rather than pay $500 to have my car fixed. I told him had I known his willingness to pay, I would have called him and allowed him to rent one and pay the bill for me. Needless to say, I refused to pay for the work, and never got my car fixed. I took the complaint to corporate only to have the complaint closed out with no solution and no notification. I opened another one, and yet again got no solution. Eventually (after about a year of argument), they told me they would perform the job for $100 plus parts. I told them that Saturn would never get another dime of my money and did not take them up on their so-called offer.

For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problem
For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problems with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I purchased my vehicle brand-new in 2006. I loved the car. But in 2010, my vehicle would not shut off. I took the vehicle to a crappy GM dealer that took 3 months to fix the problem. I paid $300 to get the ignition chamber switched out. In 2011, I had another problem. I couldnt take the key out of the ignition. Luckily, since it was within one year, they fixed the problem under parts warranty. Now, 4/11/2012, I couldnt turn my vehicle off again and was late to work trying to remove the key. I had to leave the car running, and my husband drove to my job, got in the car, drove it home, and had to remove wiring to shut it off. I called Saturn Customer Care and have to take the vehicle into the nearest dealership. I have to pay for the diagnostic, and so on and so forth. I am upset. This is ridiculous. Once this problem is fixed, I am trading in my vehicle; someone else can deal with this problem. I want to know if I can sue. I will even settle for them just buying the car back from me, so I can buy a new car. I just cant deal with the headaches, time, and money anymore. Anyone with these issues, I suggest calling Saturn Customer Care at 1-800-553-6000. You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket.

My experience is really bad and I hope that, by writing this review, I would be able to refrain people from buying at SATURN. I wanted to buy a new fridge and the old one to be picked up by SATURN (which is mandatory for law). I did my order by the customer service to be sure that every detail would have been clear and I did explicitly said while ordering that I would have liked the old fridge to be picked up. Eventually I received a confirmation of my order without that specification. For this reason, I called many times to change the order and although the people from the customer service promised me that they would have changed the order, they did not. So at the end I receive the new fridge but the old one hasnt been picked up. Now I am sure that it was a strategy from the beginning not to specify my wish and also what they did afterwards. I think the employees form the customer service are thought to do so. For this reason I wont ever buy at SATURN. I will also dissuade people. Really bad experience!!!!

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion. I have had several of the common issues with the ignition. Not shutting off and ending up with a dead battery stranded. The key not turning and the key not releasing. I had the ignition switch replaced during the recall. As soon as I went to pick up the car I knew it wasnt corrected. The key did not shut off the engine. How did the mechanic not know that there was still a problem? So I went back into Fergusons GMC and informed the service desk. The guy was rude and nasty, treated me like I didnt know what I was talking about. I was so disgusted with it that I left. I am still battling this problem, and dont understand why this can not be addressed properly. All the peacocks on capital hill know that this is an issue, they know it has cost several folks their lives, and they know that not one consumer is being treated fairly. I went to the auto store & got a new cylinder. I tried to put in it, but now the key goes in & out easily but the whole cylinder will not turn at all, so the car cant be started! Im going to have to tear apart the steering column maybe. I dont want to have to buy another new part costing $84+ tax especially since the new parts probably are defective also. It does absolutely no good to buy the new part & it doesnt work when you install it. Since now the cylinder is completely stuck & doesnt move at all, I cant even use the car! I have to carpool my wife to her job etc, and cant afford to buy another car. Since Saturn & GM knows about all the Saturn owners having this same problem, there needs to be a major recall and a class action suit to repay all the owners for the expenses they incur because Saturn/GM stopped making new cars, and the local GM mechanics, etc. just throw up their hands and say sorry! My transmission went out in my Saturn Vue on February 14, 2012. It did not give me a warning or anything; it just went out while I was driving. I looked up the info about the transmission and contacted both CarMax and GM about this due to the fact that I purchased the car in June 2009. After a month of back and forth with GM and no one wanting to take blame, I was told that though I have the faulty transmission, I am not covered under the warranty because it would have had to go out before March 2011 and I was 2000 miles over the warranty (100,000 miles). I explained to them that the average car comes with the same warranty and I cannot tell my transmission when it needs to go out. GM refused to help pay for a new transmission and refused to give me a credit towards a new car, though they said they were or take responsibility. I am a single mom with 4 kids, and though it is not their fault I am single or have 4 kids, it lets me know they do not care about the consumers. I need transportation to get them back and forth to school and me to work. I have no car and rely on someone to take me to work and take my kids to school, or I am forced to use public transportation to get where we need to go. I have no idea what to do at this point, and I do not have the money for a new car, new transmission; nothing. I just wanted GM to fix the darn car or give me a credit towards a new one without having to take care of the negative equity or putting money down. I am just frustrated. My 2000 Saturn LS now has 118,000 miles on it. 2 weeks ago it suddenly began emitting a very loud noise under the hood. It starts up immediately and drives smoothly, but when idling gets very loud. Took to mechanic. They thought maybe rocker arms had broken but they were fine. Could find no reason for the noise. They decided something must be sticking from built-up gunk so they replaced the Valve Cover Gasket, cleaned and put in some oil additive and let it run. The noise stopped, I picked the car up and it has been fine. Now 12 days later and only driven about 50 miles, it began the exact same thing, same noise, etc and it starts up immediately and drives smooth. But the noise is very loud when idling and I can hear a little bit of the noise when driving. I took it to the Mechanic this morning and left it. He did recommend a Power Steering Seal, and the output Shaft Seal has slow leak, but said it is not urgent to fix right now since I do not drive daily nor far. I see no leaks on the driveway. Any clue or suggestions on what could be causing this very loud noise? It does not overheat and oil pressure gauge indicates no problem. All fluid levels are fine and I just had an oil change and have only driven 1,000 miles since that was done. Help please!!

I bought my Outlook in April 2009. So far the transmission has been replaced (warranty thank goodness) & there have been recalls on the safety airbag light & now power steering. Those are the flaws GM admits to. I have a consistent drip when it rains that can easily turn to a stream of water if Im pointing uphill or downhill. Checked the Internet & its been verified Saturn cut the drain tubing too short. Checked with GM to see if they would fix it but they said I needed to work a deal with the dealer who want going for it. Turns out the water has drained right into my fuse box so now my electrical is messed up. The fuse box is impossible to get to. Among other problems my service airbag light wont ever turn off - fuse issue or real problem, Im not sure. Worried it will cost me a fortune to fix & on one income with 2 kids thats a tough call. Then today, I turned the car off & it kept running. Key was out! Now I read there are ignition problems. Wish all these reviews were out when I bought my first almost new car ever. Teach me!

Since the recall had been for the car suddenly shutting down - not starting, we didnt think about the recall until after that. She had hit a hidden bump in the road before it stopped completely. She called the former Saturn dealer and told them what happened and they said it was the recall (we had read up on the forums and knew it was by then) and to have it towed to them - which we did. They gave her a Buick to drive. Today they called and said they had replaced the part and it still wouldnt start so it had to be the cars engine. They want to run diagnostics (which we had already done). Understandably, we dont trust them. Has anyone else had this experience?

In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Now that Saturn no longer exists, apparently GM will not take any responsibility. I have been very lucky that the three times this has happened, it has been during Firestones business hours.

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion. Last year, during summer, I got in the car to go to work and my key would not turn in the ignition. So, I missed work, had to get a tow, and had to have the ignition lock/cylinder replaced on my car (that I am still making payments on). Now, a year later, my key keeps getting stuck when I try to turn the car off.

For the past 12 months I have been experiencing some starting problem with my 2005 Saturn Ion. Sometimes, I put the key in the ignition and turn it and the car does not start. However, after taking the key out and waiting between 7 and 10 minutes and trying to start, it starts without any problem. As mentioned, this problem has been going on for the past 12 months. So today, after reading some of the blogs and a posted phone number (**), I decided to call, the lady answering the phone was very polite and helpful. She called a buick dealership and got the service person on the phone. I asked this person if he had ever heard of this problem and he acknowledged that he did not. But after pressing further, he admitted that he had heard of this problem but need the car to further troubleshoot the problem and that they will charge a fee to do.Ill wait and see what happens. I am not ready to contact an attorney yet.

Good the features, the graphics are outstanding and its a very reliable vehicle and supportive for my needs as well. But to add some of the fluid, you actually physically have to lift up the car. Also, the repairs on the vehicle can get expensive if youre not sure where to get them from.

The car has been unreliable since day one--the window has continually fogged up, need to run it with the air on at all time. Every morning, it bucks and chugs for the first half mile. The car only has 50,000 miles on it and now I have had to replace the starter, and of course the ignition. My work around for this has been to pull all the plastic around the steering column. I pulled the key out with pliers and I can now start it by twisting the ignition bezel. I stop it by pulling the electrical connection at the back of the ignition cylinder. It is a manual transmission. Does anyone have an 800 number at GM that I can call and complain to?

Christmas Day 2014 will go down as a bummer day. Car had just passed 100,600 miles just in the past few days. Well, Christmas Morning my 2008 Aura XE V6, which had never really given me any problems with the exception of some minor problems with all the door lock and some other minor problems, decided to have transmission problems and stopped working. I was driving and all of a sudden found a strange noise and immediately parked the car. I at least made it to my brothers house and was able unloaded the Christmas presents. But when I tried to back up the transmission would not function, any gear I put it in, and it did not work. Eventually I was able to get assistance from family, and was able to get it into neutral and push the car down the driveway. At this point no engine light had come on or any warning of a problem at all. The car would not change gears normally. I then was able to park the car for a bit and then find someone to follow me to the dealer in Southern California. The Authorized Saturn Service Provider I have taken the car to for years. They called me back two days later and came back with a $3800 price tag for a new transmission replacement option. I was given by my brother a note that he had read of a recall on a Saturn Cabling problem with a transmission, but when I put my VIN number on the GM Site to check for recalls it did not appear. Well, my alternatives are slim to none, when it comes to the replacement as I have investigated other places to do the work and they tell me that there is a part that needs replacing and it alone is $1200.00 all by itself. I have always been a strong supporter of Saturn products in the past. Have had 3 Saturn vehicles over the years and have held them for at least 4-5 years each. This one was a doozy. I just want to let anyone out their know that if you have similar problems it is a costly one and probably not worth fixing. I plan on seeing if there are any other remedies I can pursue with whatever agency regulates car mfg. A very disappointed Saturn owner. Also, I cant believe this was not a safety concern for V6 vehicles.

Transmission suddenly goes bad when shifting from 2 to 3. It is a known problem in Saturn transmissions and I was able to find it on an internet forum. I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! It is also a safety issue when you have no idea when its suddenly going to break!

After several attempts, the key just came out with the ignition still running. I realized nothing would work, so I stalled the car, unplugged the battery and had it towed to a Saturn dealership. They supposedly replaced my ignition for $480 plus $140 for the tow. They said its been a common problem with this year, make, model and mileage but they havent recalled it yet. I truly hope that if enough people complain about it, they will issue the recall and we can all get reimbursed for our hard-earned money.

First, it was an ominous Check Engine light which after spending $400 in unneeded repairs, turned out to be something with the master computer. After I had the ignition replaced, now I cant get the car to start. The dealership cant find anything wrong with it and the mechanic says that its the master computer needs to be replaced. On top of all that, all of the automatic windows died. Had to quit my job because of my health and Im so fed up with all this, I could just scream.

My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone! This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?

2003 Saturn ION - good car at first, but ignition issues plagued me. The key would sometimes stick, making it impossible to start the vehicle until I noticed jiggling the steering wheel and gear handle would release it. It felt very unsafe though. I had the vehicle shut off on the highway more than once and I was able to get to the side of the road. It also shut off during sharp turns where there was a slight incline. The scariest and most annoying issue was the key could be removed at any time during driving and after no luck with lasting repairs, I simply kept a note in the car during service appointments (or for valet) to MAKE SURE KEY IS IN THE OFF POSITION BEFORE REMOVING, because I came out to a dead battery more than once. Such a waste of energy and a risk to my family. I no longer have this vehicle and Im thankful for that because it felt unsafe!

I ransomed my 2005 Saturn Ion this morning from the local Chevy dealers service department. For the second time in less than 18 months, I had to have the ignition lock cylinder, etc. replaced. The problem was identical to others previously listed on this site. The key was stuck in the on position with the car running. I had to disconnect the battery and stall (manual transmission) the engine. In each occurrence, the repair cost well in excess of four hundred dollars. Add the rental car, and the cost approaches a thousand dollars for the two repairs. On a positive note, I see that the dealer used the replacement lock cylinder 20869121 that Frank of Toronto, ON recommended. Although I dont have access to the actual technical service bulletins, I found one listed for Saturn Ion entitled 05-08-49-006 FEB 05 Ignition Switch - Key Hard to Insert/Wont Rotate and another 05-02-35-007A OCT 06 Ignition - Inadvertent Turning of Ignition Lock Cylinder. The cashier this morning said that the problem is related to too much weight on the key ring. I dont think the three keys on my ring qualify. Rather, I think it is the quality of the genuine GM parts.

My 2006 Saturn Ion began having starting problems locking up. I took my car in due to one of the recalls on this model in hopes this problem would be resolved once and for all. The service department said the locking up problem was not part of the recall and that I needed a new battery or a new starter. I told him that I had already had both of these replaced and the problem was still ongoing. Again he said this had nothing to do with the recall. I popped the clutch to turn it off and disconnected the battery. I ordered a new ignition cylinder and plan to replace when it arrives. I agree with the majority of the community that there are far too many problems with particular parts for a recall not to be made. Im elated for the day I can rid myself of this car. In 2006, I purchased a new 2006 Saturn Ion. I loved it at the time, but since then have had numerous problems. It is a lemon. I had to have the ignition system replaced because my key would get stuck in it every time I turned the car off. It is now doing this again. I have had the entire computer system replaced twice because all the gauges went hay wire while driving and wouldnt stop. Recently this has started happening again. Two years ago, my automatic windows stopped rolling down, then suddenly started working again for about 2 months, and now dont work. Talk about fun when going through a drive through and having to open your door because your windows dont work. My cigarette lighter fuse has to be replaced about once every 3 months because it shorts out. Last week I was adjusting my rear view mirror and it just fell off. It didnt come unglued from the window, but the ball and socket joint somehow broke and cant be fixed except by ordering a completely new mirror because for some reason you cant order that one little plastic part that broke. For the last year my gas gauge has been completely inaccurate. After filling up completely it says I only have 1/2 tank of gas and after driving for 20 minutes my gauge is on empty. So I have to rely on my low fuel message to come on, which Im sure wont be long before that breaks as well. The only good thing is that I havent had any engine trouble...yet.

My head just might explode!!! We bought our 2008 Saturn from a certified dealer about 3 years ago. The vehicle had just about 30K miles on it at the time. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, we noticed that the engine light would come on and the service StabiliTrak light would come on. I obviously brought it back to the dealership, as it was under warranty at that time, and they said they figured out the problem and sent us on our way. Of course, no sooner did I pull out of the shop, and they light came on again. So, back we went...they said they repaired it. Sure enough, it did it again and they eventually came to the conclusion it was just a stupid sensor and everything was actually fine!Fast forward to December 2013 and the POS starts acting up. The transmission light came on and I panicked. My brother-in-law suggested we just try putting in more fluid and see if that helps. We did...it helped for about 2 days. And then...HELL BROKE LOOSE!! The entire transmission was shot!! It had something to do about a wave plate and as a result, we needed to get an entirely rebuilt transmission to the tune of about $3,600!!! Literally, on the way home from the repair shop, the engine light started flashing! I immediately turned around and brought it back to the shop. They ran some tests and determined that it was likely some excess crap that just happened to pass through the sensor causing it to get triggered. Now, 8 months later, the engine light keeps going on and whenever I fill my car with gas, I have to rev the accelerator to get it to start!! It seemed to be running ok...but after the last fiasco, we didnt want to risk anything. So, I brought it into the shop. The technician find that there has been over 36K misfires from cylinder 2 and that the spark plug has seized. I leave my vehicle there and drive their 1994 Toyota Corolla with over 232K miles on it over the weekend as a loaner. (amazing how a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 232K miles is still running, but my 2008 with 92K miles on it is toast). Anyways, he said that they wanted to replace the spark plugs and then try moving the cylinder coil that had been connected to the #2 over to a different one to see if maybe the issue was just the cylinder coil and nothing more serious.I receive a call this afternoon telling me that it appears that the issue was not related to the cylinder coil and they suspect we are going to need a NEW ENGINE!!!!! Yep, thats right...A NEW ENGINE!!!! This car does not even have 100K miles on it and I am being told I need to put a NEW ENGINE in it??? After we already replaced the transmission!!! That is seriously wrong and a total load of crap!!It appears that both the transmission and the engine are well-known problems for this model and year of vehicle!! I guess 2007s are experiencing the same troubles!! If you look online you can see discussion board after discussion board all discussing these same issues. Saturn needs to stand up and take responsibility for producing a faulty product!!! There is no reason I should have to put in over $10K worth of repairs on a vehicle with less than 100K miles on it!! It is disgraceful!!!

Growing up we were always told not to buy American cars because their cars are built to fall apart just after the warranty is up. After decades of driving foreign cars with very few to no major issues, and shortly after the collapse of GM, we decided to support American made cars and help do our share. We bought a 15 month old lease return Saturn Outlook with 15,000 miles on it. The truck looked great and drove well for approximately 20 months to drop the kids off at school and do the local errands. Then, out of nowhere, the transmission went. Since the vehicle had a 100,000 mile drive train warranty, we werent too upset; however, when we towed the truck in for repair, the dealer told us the warranty had just expired 6 months prior so they wouldnt honor it and it would cost us close to $4000 to repair it through GM.Around that time we also started having airbag light issues where they were sometimes on, sometimes off. We had it looked at by GM and were told it was probably a dummy light issue and everything is fine. 1 year later we received a recall for the exact problem we had yet when we called to arrange a repair, we were told our Vin number is not part of the recall and not eligible for repair. After speaking with numerous people in GM over the next 10 months, someone in GM told us that there was going to be another airbag recall coming soon and that our Vin number would be included. To this day, no additional recall has been issued and we are told GM will not authorize a repair. This is ridiculous! I guess you have to die in a crash in order to get this company to do the right thing? We are having it looked at this week and will continue to fight for what shouldve been done from the start but have learned the lesson for good this time. At least to stay away from GM.

We purchased a 2008 Saturn with 76,000 miles. In May 2014 we begin having transmission problems. Upon researching the net we discovered other owners having problems and GMC doing a recall. I begin correspondence and after eight months and numerous e-mails and recall letters we were told that due to the 19,000 mile over their criteria of 120,000 we were out of luck. But to show their goodwill they decided to give us a $2,000 dollar credit toward a NEW 2015 GMC. But not a credit toward having this piece of Saturn repaired at a cost of $4,000.00. per Jim **.

I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook and have had nothing but problems. I know that my warranty has expired but for a 3-year old truck with 70k miles, why is the airbag light going on? Also, the trunk wont open, the stability and stabilizer track is acting up and GM has nothing to say about this. How can one help me address this issue? I am expected to pay for the repairs; I dont think I should.
