At 15,000 miles, the brakes and rotors had to be replaced. The service manager said that driving on gravel roads caused gravel to get in the pads. I was told if it happened again, I would have to stand the cost of repairs. 8000 miles later, the brakes had gravel in the pads and the rotors were grooved and had to be turned. I was told that I must blow the dirt off every week. The service write up person said only people driving on gravel roads were having trouble. I said the Acadia book did not say to stay off gravel roads or to blow the brakes off every week. GM has a serious defect in their design that needs to be addressed.
I bought a used 201 Acadia last February 2016. I had it a month and I started noticing the Service StabiliTrak light coming on. Not only did it come on it reduced my engine power. I took it back from where I bought it and the service department claimed it was some sensor. All was good. About three months after that I had to replace the engine mounts. Now it is almost a year later and the StabiliTrak system is out of control. This time I take it to auto shop and the service tech said it was the battery (which was dying anyway). So I replaced the battery and I had to get the heat fixed too because of some actuator thingy. So I am happy to get my car back the next day. I had to drive an hour from home to work on that Monday and as soon as I made it to parking garage it started again with Service StabiliTrak. SO when I get off 9 hours later I am thinking I can just disengage the system but I could not figure it out. I drove home with hazard lights and prayed it would make it to certified GMC dealership for service. Two days later they say it was the throttle body so I hope when I pick up my vehicle today the issue is resolved.
I just bought this 2007 Acadia less than 11 days ago. Come to find out my transmission is no good. I put all my money down and it giving me problems will giving me my money back. I wish I would have known this when I was looking for a vehicle. I would have never bought this one. Now Im out of the vehicle again and no money.
I purchased a new 2012 gmc acadia, in September 2012. Right the first months I had to take it back for 2 issues noticed then: sound/noise heard during cold start and both of the rear interior panels were scuffed. After phone calls and many attempts, these issues were in a way fixed but had to lower my standards. Then, right my very first year of use, the major issues began. The AC (first summer is when I noticed) did not work properly, I live in Vegas with triple digit temperatures during summer, and the ac did not work. Also, the motor started to leak oil. These are the major 2 issues I have had since my first year of owning this LEMON! every year, I have to take it in for the same issues.Just recently called GMC and asked them if they were going to stand behind their product, that they have evidence this vehicle is a LEMON, same issues for the last 4 years in a row now. To not surprise, they are not. They treated me like an idiot, and of course to no surprise, there is nothing they can do for me. Except, oh yeah, they can HELP me with a TRADE!!! It has been weeks waiting for them to call me with a status on my complaint with GMC, and then they had the nerve to call me and advised me of this. This is worse than an insult. Please, do NOT buy ANY GMC, vehicles are expensive as if youre getting the best quality but they are robbing peoples money, please be smart, think what you are buying, do your homework. You can see thousand of complaints just like mine, GMC does not manufacture/sell reliable products/vehicles. They just sell to make money without thinking of what they are selling. Just thinking of sales/numbers for themselves. While we are here making a complaint or reading about it, CEOs are in a gateway with our monies!!! Any advise would be helpful, if youve been in a situation like mine, please tell me how did you handle the outcome. Or if we all together can do something to stop these big companies STEALING our money and making us go through all of these things and inconveniences!! ENOUGH!!! THANK you.
I bought a 2008 GMC Acadia in March of 2011. It was my biggest car purchase and I was very excited to buy it. It was everything I wanted and more, with lots of space for my family of 7 and many great accommodations. Last year, in Aug. 2012, I began having issues with it, water leaking, engine lights coming on and random cut offs. I took it to the dealer and they wanted me to replace the trans, which is very costly. I did not. My husband and I had the trans flushed and everything seemed to be okay again for a few months. When spring came around and rain came down, more problems began. Every time it rained, my battery was drained. Eventually, the car just stopped working. We took it to the dealer numerous times, but no one listened when I explained my thoughts that the leaking had something to do with the problem. We replaced two batteries in a week. The dealer claimed they couldnt find anything wrong with the car, but when I went to leave, the car went into battery saver mode so I took it right back. The service advisor was clearly annoyed and ignored me for the first 15 minutes I was there. I again explained my concerned that the rain and water that had leaked into my vehicle had something to do with the electrical issues I was having. He told me the two things had nothing to do with each other. A few days later, he calls and tells me that there was a leak in the front caused by the sun roof and that was causing the issues. We paid to repair that and he said that we were good to go. About a week later, the problem happened again. The dealership had our car for more than ten days (mind you, I am 7 months pregnant right now with a high risk pregnancy). This time, we worked with a person a friend recommended, and they repaired the rear moon roof at no charge for all of the inconvenience. I was very thankful for this. Unfortunately, three days and two nights rain later, my car will not start again. How is this still happening and why is this not being recalled? I cannot afford to put myself and my family at risk every time I get into my car.
We purchased a 2008 Acadia almost 2 years ago and just recently had a problem with electrical issues. No longer under warranty, we took it to our mechanic and found the electrical box behind the glove compartment was full of water. He dried it out and wrapped it up. It ran fine for a week, then the battery mysteriously had a parasitic drain and would not start. Took it back to him and today he found the tubing that houses the electrical in the drivers door full of water.After reading reviews, Im sure a dealer will do nothing but take my money and not fix the problem. This is a design flaw and apparently GM is not stepping up to the plate to fix it. Funny that after almost 2 years the problem starts. We have loved our Acadia up until this point. We have a 2,000 mile trip planned, now what? Im certainly not very happy and not sure what recourse there is. Can a class action suit be filed or has one already been filed?
Bought my 2008 new, 42,000, love the vehicle at the start but it has turned into a money pit. First of all vehicle started to float all over the road. GMC dealership changed rack, rear shocks and numerous alignments. Tire treads wore out from the outside in. They couldnt figure it out. Local mechanic took rear struts out and bushing fell out. Two sets of tires later!!! Then last year timing changes went stretched. Needed to be replaced $4,000.00, now the passenger air bag. Time for it to go.
My wife and I bought a 2011 Acadia with like 6 miles on it new. From the start my wife stated (its her vehicle technically) that it was making a wamp sounding sound from the front passenger wheel after 30mph, I figured it might have been the treads making that sound, at 85k now the original tires still on are worn from the inside out. Then the check engine light came on early at like 25k. I thought I was gonna escape the Acadia curse but then the TV stopped working and the radio quit working for about 4 hours unexpectedly, and somehow fixed itself. Now I have been seen once by the dealer for the seatbelt recall, the corrosion on the plug under the seat recall, and they looked for sign of water pump leak recall. Well guess what, at 75k supposedly no sign of water pump seal but now at 85k I get home and see a small red puddle under the truck, you guessed it after looking for leak looks to me to be a water pump leak with small aluminum shards of metal in the coolant reservoir. As I have a scheduled appointment with dealer 03/20/15, for new tires, recall repair and alignment. I will have them re look at it and I swear if I hear I have to pay for the water pump, my head will spin like the exorcist and be calling my lawyer. I had a 2002 Pontiac grand am gt that I had nothing but problems with since day one, long story short ended up with an arbitrator through the BBB and got reimbursed for work that was not covered under warranty. My wife advised me if this truck became a problem like my Pontiac, she and I would never buy GM again. Fingers crossed for Thursday as this vehicle was designed to carry my 3 year old and now 5 month old children in and so far I feel like GM is really putting up a middle finger to loyal customers and letting down new ones.
I purchased a GMC 2007 Acadia new. It has a squeaky steering wheel, has had a/c blower replaced four times, leaks into master cylinder, suspension problems, coolant system problems and constant headaches over drain tubes in sunroof clogging and leaking water into drivers compartment causing carpet having to be pulled up and dried. The sunroof issue was under warranty and first dealer wasnt going to do anything until I contacted GM. Their solution was to blow out drain tubes every oil change. It clogs quickly so I am running back to dealer and got sick of it and sealed sunroof off. All other problems after the warranty, from 2 months out and on. No more. GM. Poor quality engineering.
Back in 2008 when GM was in trouble financially and I needed a car, my family purchased an Acadia. Part of our decision-making process involved supporting an American company. We really liked/like the car - the reliability is the overarching problem. To begin, there were a number of recalls resulting in many hours overall waiting at the dealer. If that were the only issue, I could deal with it. Unfortunately, that is just the beginning. We started having problems with the engine coils failing. First one - $400, a month later, another - $450. Four months later, one of the same coils that we had replaced and a different one - $660.00. Six months passed not without repairs (new radiator $700) and now the coils are a problem AGAIN! The dealer now tells us that ALL of the coils, the ECM and the catalytic converter all need to be replaced pursuant to a bulletin #PIP5038B which states if there are certain failure codes, which were present for us, that replacing less than all of the coils and other stuff, would result in future failure of the coils, problems with the brain and emissions. Total for this work - $2,931.72! Picked the car up and before arriving home, check engine light was back on! Can you believe it?? Dealer now states, which to be fair they had been working on and thought they had corrected, that the fuel injector is too clogged as a result of the coil problem and will need to be replaced - $765.00.My gripe - The coil failure appears to be a recurring issue which the dealer did not service properly initially replacing them one at a time resulting in our having to pay $1,510 only to have the same problem 6 months later. In that time, GM learned that they could not fix the problem 1 coil at a time and alerted their dealers in the bulletin. They learned while I paid but when the problem resurfaced due to the failure of their repairs, instead of offering to make good and apologizing for the additional inconvenience to me, they charged me an additional $3,000 which didnt fully fix the problem and now requires another $765. Who knows if that will be the end - perhaps there is a problem yet to be discovered with another fuel injector?I have spoken with the executive office and they offered to pay 50% of the current repair OR give me a voucher for $3,000 toward another GM product but I do not feel that this is fair compensation. I have had to expend $5500 on this car this year alone - not taking the additional $765 into account. One other note, GM continues to throw out that my car has high mileage which is a factor in the amounts they would offer. I purchased the car to drive, not preserve. I have taken care of the vehicle. Are GM cars only meant to go 100,000 and then die? Volvo and Toyota owners seems to expect 100s of thousands of miles but GM no? I dont see them advertising that.What would I like? For others to know of the problem. To be fully reimbursed for the monies we have had to expend in repairs to the coils so I can reinvest them in a new car that will actually work. So got the Acadia and fell in love, it fit our family of 6 perfectly! Soon after I noticed the passenger front and back windows would hesitate to roll down sometimes...over looked it because I was so happy to have it, then came the air bag light - it was a known issue but no one could do anything about it to clear it out! Now mind you I got my car in Jan so it was cold, now were getting into summer and running the ac more and it makes this loud screeching noise when its on low. I was told it was from water leaking in from the sunroof, GREAT! All these problems are bothersome but not so costly. The biggest problem came today. I was driving with my 2 kids, stopped at a red light, got ready to take off and it was like someone unplugged the car - it just wouldnt go. Luckily I was coming down off a slight incline so I was able to roll into a parking lot where the check engine light came on. And Im being told Its $2500 to rebuild the transmission and put a new wave plate in (the wave plate is what broke in the transmission causing the issue) but they cant guarantee it will last more than 10,000 miles because there could have been more damage done by the broken wave plate. They can give it a full check for $127 a hr or I could get a new transmission for $4000. Of course my warranty ended last year and there is no recall for this issue that so many people are having. I absolutely love everything about this car but whats the point of having a really nice car if you cant drive it and 11 months into it Im having all these issues. I will definitely be trading this vehicle in the first chance I get! GM is supposed to be the best of the best but thats definitely not the case. GMC Acadia is like a cubic zirconia, looks good but worth absolutely nothing!
Upon receiving a letter from GM regarding the water pump shaft seal in my 2009 GMC Acadia, I called customer service to notify them of an incident that took place with my vehicle about three weeks ago. After my husband and I were forced to pull off of interstate 95 just south of Washington, DC during rush hour, we had to replace our water pump due to its lacking ability to function as well as belt that had been leaked on due to problems with the water pump. The letter from GM does imply that should the seal not function properly, the water pumps operating ability could be compromised. Prior to the breakdown, my husband and I noticed low coolant levels, monitored the levels and added coolant when needed. The engine fan continued to run even after the vehicle had stopped - a sign that something was not working right. I contacted GM customer service regarding the cost of the repair that, to me, seems a result of a malfunctioning part produced by the company. I was informed that because the vehicle was not repaired at a dealership, they were unable to reimburse me for the repairs. At the time, the vehicle was not drivable and was taken to the closest available repair shop. The closest dealer was almost an hour away. I am filing the complaint as I find it unfair and unjust that GM has not recalled the water pump shaft seal and instead is hiding behind the issue by calling it a courtesy customer service letter. After researching the issue, I discovered that I am not alone in believing that this part should be recalled. The letter offers this resolve: Your GMC dealer will check your vehicles coolant level and, if necessary, will add sufficient engine coolant. If the seal is compromised, the vehicle will continue to need additional and unordinary amounts of engine coolant fluid. This letter offers a cowardly attempt at patching the real issue (that is the malfunctioning water pump shaft seal). I feel strongly that this part should be recalled.
I have a 12 GMC Acadia Denali where the cheap antenna base cracked and came loose in a dealership car wash even though they removed the antenna first. I do not believe its the dealers fault but a factory defect or poor design. The service manager said he sees several a week come through with this issue. I tried to work with a GMC Factory rep; no help at all and blames the Stubby antenna that had always been removed before washing. My 4th GMC, but more than likely my last since they dont stand behind their products or dealerships. The dealership will cover 1/2 the cost of repairs, which is almost $500.
I am on the brink of tears....again. My lemon Acadia is at the dealership with a nice list of new issues. GM literally made an awful product - unsafe and unreliable, and makes the customers pay for their mistakes. For years it rained INSIDE my car. I finally got them to replace my moldy floorboards and fix the leak (after putting social media pressure on them - they wanted me to pay at first). Im constantly having issues with my steering and engine. There is never NOT something wrong with my car and I am fed up. Its not right. I would LOVE to get together with other Acadia owners and see if we can file some sort of lawsuit. Email me if interested!
We bought our 2012 GMC Acadia brand new in 2012. Fast forward to now 2015....and a stack of paperwork connected to all of the recalls and repairs that we have had on this crap SUV. I have come to know the service manager at the GMC dealership on a first name basis. Our troubles began with the numerous recalls on airbags. Each time they had it in the shop for a recall they found more issues that needed to be replaced/fixed. For example on a routine oil change they found that the oil was spewing all over the engine drive shaft so they replaced the seal to that. I am not sitting in front of all of my paperwork right now as it is in the glove box of our Acadia that now sits at the dealership getting more extensive repairs done on it. Last week I was getting in my car to take my son to practice and noticed a loud weeeeeering sound when I started the car. It would get louder upon my accelerating. I called the GM dealership to tell them of the sound and they said I can bring it in to the dealership in the morning. So we drop it off to let them diagnose the issue. We leave in one of their rental cars only to get a phone call an hour later telling us that they found the car to not register that it had any power steering fluid. Upon further investigation they see that the pump/seal burst causing some axle now to need to be replaced and the power steering pump needed replaced as well. All for a whopping 1800.00! The service manager said he spoke to GM and they agreed to cover 75% of the costs for this. Weird but ok. Then on the day we are suppose to go pick up the Acadia they call us to tell us the truck is still making the weeeeering sound and so they looked further and now the alternator needs replaced too! Are you freaking kidding me!????? This car has 49,000 miles on it! It is kept in a garage all day/night. The oil is changed regularly. WTH! We drive this car to basically run kids around town. Thats it! I am NEVER in my life going to buy another GM vehicle! I will forever be loyal to my Hondas!!!!! GM your Acadia should be taken off the floor and revamped completely! We are a family who bought a brand new vehicle so we could have piece of mind and not worry about if our SUV would break down and nickel and dime us. We will trade this car off ASAP and never look back (unless a class action law suit comes to surface). We would happily join in on any lawsuit going on if there is one. In fact we may contact one anyway to see what our options might be.
I purchased a 2012 GMC Acadia from the used vehicle department of Cole McNatt GMC in Gainesville, Texas. Shortly after purchase of the Vehicle, I noticed that the Vehicle began shaking while shifting. This led me to believe that there was an issue with the Vehicle’s transmission, which was confirmed by my mechanic.Below is a timeline of my correspondence with GM: Initial call to GM on 11/20. Case number given #**. Spoke to representative and told him there was a transmission issue diagnosed by my mechanic. Watson Transmission in Denison, TX that could potentially be covered under warranty. GM Representative indicated that there could be coverage assistance if issue was similar to Wave Plate and recall transmission for similar model vehicles. GM Representative also indicated that GM would likely provide financial assistance due to the fact that the vehicle was under the mileage limit for warranty coverage (despite being a few months out of the time limit). Was advised by Representative to bring vehicle into a GMC dealership.11/21 brought vehicle to my local GM dealership, Parkway Buick GMC in Sherman, Texas. A week later I was told the vehicle transmission would need to inspected in order to identify issue to submit to GM for coverage. I was informed that the charge to disassemble and diagnose the issue, $1,000, would be my responsibility until coverage was determined; the dealership. Based on the statement from the GM Representative that GM would likely provide financial assistance, I decided to proceed. 12/6 Dealership indicated the transmission would need to be replaced and GM had denied warranty claim. I contacted GM and was told the claim was denied but a new ticket number was given to escalate to Senior Analyst. Senior Analyst determined no coverage.Parkway Buick GMC gave me the option of paying to have the Vehicle put back together (in addition to the $1,000 we had to pay to take it apart) or replacing the transmission altogether. As it did not seem prudent (financially or practically) to reassemble the Vehicle with a known transmission issue, I elected to have Parkway Buick GMC replace the transmission (at a cost of nearly $5,000). Had I not been encouraged by the GM Representative that assistance would be provided, I would not have proceeded, at that time, with the initial disassembly and inspection, as my family was not prepared for the financial burden of transmission replacement.After researching this specific problem, I have learned that this is a common issue with the Acadia model vehicle. I believe that the failure of the Vehicle’s transmission was a manufacturing flaw. And, considering that the Vehicle was just a few months out of warranty but under the warranty mileage limit at the time the issue was discovered, I appealed, asking that GM cover in full or share with me the cost of this repair. My appeal was denied.GM’s reputation and marketing emphasize its vehicles’ durability, reliability, and safety and care for customer satisfaction. I have many family and friends that have owned GM vehicles and, before this incident, I had no reason to believe that the company would deny coverage for repair of an issue with one of its vehicles. I was, honestly, very surprised that GM not only denied my claim but also declined to offer assistance with the $1,000 charge for diagnosis, a step that was taken at the suggestion of one of its dealerships. Especially considering that I had been told by the GM representative that there would likely be assistance.I anticipate that in a few years, I will need to upgrade to newer vehicle, but now I hesitate to ever purchase another GM vehicle. I am GM’s target customer, the father of a young family that is growing and will have a need for multiple safe and dependable vehicles for years to come. GM did not stand behind its product and cover the cost of this repair.
My wife and I bought our GMC Acadia new in 2011 and we have put more money into this vehicle than our Dodge truck we bought 15 years ago. First the struts were blown out the third year we owned it and also a stabilizer bar and most recently the throttle sensor went bad and so the entire throttle body needed to be replaced and also some reprogramming supposedly. Not impressed with this GMC - could be the last one we ever own. Oh and of course the later fix gmc weasled around the warranty knowing which parts are junk and how to get around covering junk parts.
There should definitely be a transmission recall on this SUV. I have heard so many customers unsatisfied with this out of pocket expense. My warranty expired of course and now Im going to have pay $4,000 on a new transmission, money I dont have at the moment!!!!! So disappointed... My wife and I just had a baby. I cant afford this now, I dont know Im going to do...
My 2013 Acadia has had both Cadillac converters changed. Also Im currently having problems with radio not working, flashers not sounding, seat belts not making a sound when theyre not connected, signals not making a sound when theyre flicking, the radio wont play CDs, wont do anything. It shows up stations but you cant hear anything on. It will pop off and on every now and then so I just dont know whats wrong with this car. It is scary because the cost is astronomical to repair if this is electrical problems. Also the car had problems with it. Was water running from somewhere onto my feet after a rain, which I know there were other people who complained of this as well. Theres no recall for it but other comments states that it has cause some damage to the electrical wiring. I read this in other reviews, I can not afford this cost, Acadia 2013 owners. But of course with all this going on theres no recalls on any of the issues that I have with this vehicle. How frustrating!!!
In 2007 when the first Acadia came out, I fell in love with it and its body style. We bought one and had very few problems, other than normal wear and tear. When we traded it in for a 2012 Terrain, there were 115,000 miles on the Acadia. We should have kept it rather than downsize to the Terrain. The Terrain, was not a problem either, but after having it for 16 months, I decided that I wanted another Acadia, which is what we did a week ago tomorrow. Never having had any major problems with the first Acadia, I thought surely the 2014 would be better, 7 years later. However, I was wrong.The past weekend, my husband and I drove to Louisiana for a funeral. On our ride there, the car ran smooth and no apparent problems were recognized. However, while away, on our way to the grave site the SUV began to shake and jerk, also making loud noises. It felt as if we were on a bucking horse. After about twenty minutes of this, it began to run smoothly again. Later that evening, the jerking began again, just not as long this time. On our way back home after driving possibly the first 75 miles, the jerking began a third time. That time it only lasted for about 10 miles, and did not repeat the action any more. When the jerking began, the Stability Trac signal came on. We had had similar problems with the first Acadia, but that did not begin until we had put 60,000 or more miles on it. This new one, has less than 300 miles on it. My dealership has been gracious in providing us with a loaner. Although the loaner is also a 2014, it is an automobile and not an SUV. Due to the fact that I previously broke my leg and fractured my ankle on the same leg, four years later, as well as having had to have a total knee replacement on that same leg. The Buick that we have been loaned, sits very low, even with being able to raise the seat, Never having gone through this before, I expected to get the same type or a very similar one, to what I have been accustomed to driving. We have not had a chance to get back to the dealership and my salesman, but plan to do so today, to see if they can put us in another SUV. I have also looked online to see if the 2014 Acadia is one of those being recalled, but have not been successful in finding out yet.Overall, my experiences with all three GMC vehicles weve purchased over the last 10 years, have been excellent ones. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. As a matter of fact, I praised the 07 one to my banker so much, that she went out and bought one two years ago after test driving one of her own. She is still in love with it, and tells me she rarely uses her previous car which she thought she loved before getting an Acadia. Those of you who have had horrible experiences with your Acadia, must be in the minority, because rarely, if ever, have I heard an Acadia owner speak negatively about it. Friends of ours who had an Envoy, recently bought an Acadia after riding in ours. Sorry about your problems, but I would think you are the exception, not the norm.
For those of you who are researching Acadias for your future car, I would like to share that my 2014 Acadia Denali has been to the dealer 5 times for repairs/replacements parts in the past 9 months. My car currently only has 13,600 miles on it. At 4900 miles I had the Vacuum Brake Booster replaced. At 8500 miles I had the Master Cylinder Replaced. At 8900 miles I had to have the car towed because the stabilitrak went out and they replaced the Brake Pedal Position Sensor. At 10,400 miles they replaced another Vacuum Brake Booster. And finally at 13,600 miles I had the Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve replaced. All of that happened in the first 14 months of the car. I now own a very expensive car that cannot go an oil change without multiple repairs being made in between. GMC has been non responsive until my state DMV contacted them. It is so disappointing to purchase a car that has no integrity and then try to work with GMC who only will respond if I escalate to a legal matter. I would think GMC would be pretty embarrassed to know their car has had so many failures but they are not even interested. Who knows what my 2nd year will look like but I would have wanted to have read this information prior to my purchase. The dealer making repairs has been nice, but again it is a such a pain to go up there 10 times for drop off and pick up. I traded in my MDX because the Acadia had bigger 3rd row and other features I wanted but in the end I will take a smaller car than drive a car that I constantly have to worry will break again.
Our SUV sounds like mine. Electronic motherboard went out six months in, water pump, eleven months in, intermittent whirring sound (which I was told repeatedly it was a design flaw then once that I needed an oil change). In addition the air conditioner gradually loss cooling then discovered leak in a hose to condenser. Now power steering completely gone and so is air. Of course they are able to find problems now that its all out of warranty. GMC national is no help. They lie and cover up all problems. Think of it as the VA of the auto world.
Bought a used 2010 GMC Acadia from sister-in-law Feb 2015. It had 113000 miles. Ive only put 6,000 on it in a year because Im scared to go anywhere. I know for a fact she took care of it and had all paperwork for maintenance. Shortly after getting the car, the power steering completely failed almost causing a wreck. I had to replace the entire steering system which cost me $2k. The check engine light was on and I thought it was a tune-up, but it registered timing chain and camshaft. Big Bucks. Im cutting my losses and getting rid of this piece of crap. That was my first and last GMC.
My 2009 GMC Acadia has had 4 of 6 cylinder ignition coils go bad, 2 of 3 catalytic converters, power lift gate 3 times and countless other recalls. Including the heated washer fluid option where the fix was just to take it out. On the fourth coil going out I had enough and asked the dealer to contact GM to see if there was anything they could do. In my opinion a 66% failure rate is excessive. The response from GM was that they would do nothing since the car is outside of 36,000 miles. I had them escalate the request and just heard back from GM. The rep that called me said that it was there was nothing that they could do since it was outside of 36,000 miles. When I asked if it was normal and ok for GM to have a 66% failure rate the rep told me that he did not even know what the part was and did not know if it was normal or not. So I am driving the dealers courtesy car for the second week until I get an answer that makes sense. Will never buy a GM car again.
I purchased a brand new GMC Acadia 5 years ago and I paid 36,000.00. Things started to break during the second year. For example, the main control switch to get windows down just stop working and I had only one option replace paying a high price. Everything is overprice since the parts to the labor $120 per hour. Later during the beginning my third year with the car the transmission stop working and it had to be rebuild. I wonder why a 3 years old car running 18 miles a day just go wrong with the transmission. 40000 miles after the repair the transmission went wrong for second time and the cost is about 4 grands to get it fixed. Last but not least, my radio stop working and the dealer just can as always replace the part for the high price of 600. I found a brand new radio online from another GMC owner for a lower price and when I connected it is LOCKED. Guess what $180 to unlock my radio. Why, didnt I paid for it. Why just nor releasing the code to the new owner? In this one it comes to my mind this example. Go to an electronic store (Best Buy etc.) and purchase a flat S. TV. Will you be happy if you move and your TV is locked and you have to call Sony and pay to unlock it. It just does not make sense for me. So I paid 36000 for a car that the radio is not my property. I am selling my GMC and I will never purchase any car from GMC. I recommend everyone to walk away from this company that does not respect costumer and it play unfair games to take your money away.
Air conditioning gone out 3 times. Other problems. No More American made cars for me.
My car is currently at Gateway Buick GMC in St. Louis Missouri where I have received news that I need a new engine after it stopped on me in the middle of the highway; the light read engine power reduced. My car is 2009 GMC Acadia and in good condition. My understanding is very poor when it comes to why I need a new engine in a car that is under 10 years old. I have contacted GMC and they gave me a Senior Advisor and a service # however no one has been able to answer my question as to why I would need a new engine when this car is under 10 years old. I am frustrated and confused. At this point I am considering hiring an attorney. This is ridiculous.
I bought brand new (expensive) 2015 Acadia Denali 3 yrs ago. I get it Ziebarted with diamond gloss wax as recommended by GMC dealership every year faithfully. This vehicle was my pride and joy sort of speak. I have a defect in the paint on the hood. There is no paint damage or scratches in this area, its started to show as a rust bubble. Of course, paint only covered under warranty if 36,000 miles or 3 yrs, which I dont qualify for. So sorry about my luck. Also I have the same problem as the 2015 Buick Enclave with an inoperative purge solenoid, its causing the same problems but you guessed it, no recall on the Acadias so again, no help from GMC after spending so much money.
I bought my 2008 Acadia brand new. It has been 95% trouble-free. Small problems, most covered under warranty. Now, with just under 60,000 miles, the transmission has gone bad. My dealer says it will cost $4100.00 to replace with a remanufactured one. I am just sick. This is a $45,000.00 car now worth $13,000. I have been so proud of this car and received so many compliments. It has been a joy and comfort to drive. With all of the bad press and obviously serious manufacturers flaws and cover ups, I am afraid to even consider buying another Acadia.
Engine sputtering - recall - internal engine repair. Power steering noise - recall - repaired issue. Only one light works - no issue with the actual lights. Issue unresolved after John Miles GMC in Conyers was unable to troubleshoot the issue. Issue remains. Starter will not shut off - current repair appointment with non-dealer mechanic. Guess well see. Overall the Acadia is a piece of rolling **!
My new Acadia has been torn apart at the dealership now for weeks. Bought my 2017 Acadia SLT in May. Loved the drive such a great & comfortable SUV. Then the spotting started. I had been noticing the vehicle leaving spots on my driveway. I really was trying to convince myself that it was just A/C water. Took my new baby in to find out what was leaking. The technician showed me. He said, I really thought I was just going to tell you it was moisture from the A/C. Instead what he had was a large puddle of fluid & a bad Transmission leak! WTF. This car has 4k miles on it.Now they have to rip out the transmission? Now that was 2 weeks ago. Today I call and Im informed that they found the source of the leak. The Torque Converter!!! GMC! My car is brand ** new and now its going to be in the shop for a few more weeks! Im trying to be patient... but something needs to be done! I want to give a negative stars. The car while running is great, but its already broken... and it wasnt even the best deal out there!!!
I purchased an 07 Acadia two years ago with 80k miles and a 3 year warranty. Within the first month the transmission had to be repaired (SUV wouldnt go over 20 mph,wouldnt switch gears). The extended warranty covered the $3600 expense. Vehicle was in the shop for over a month. A few months later the steering was messed up and hissing loudly. The whole dash had to be taken out and I received new steering column amongst other things. Over $1500 repair covered by warranty. A few months later vehicle overheats, engine power is reduced. Cant drive vehicle. Not covered under warranty. Several hundred $$$ bill. Tire sensor light bad. Too much $ to fix. Still drivable. Few months later engine starts back-firing, driving very poorly. Every possible dash light is illuminated. Stabilitrak, traction control, engine, service all-wheel-drive (no oil light)- engine power reduced. Vehicle wont drive.Took it to GMC (who now knows me by first name but still screws me over every chance they get) and they said oil needed changed, after they did $200 in diagnostics. $300 later, I was out the door with no lights illuminated on the dash and a smooth running GMC. Got a lecture about the oil and how important it is to keep it changed and full.One month later ding ding ding- service traction control, engine power reduced. Car wont go! Checked the oil- it was still full. I still had plenty of miles left to go before my next oil change. Restarted the car- no lights. Drove fine except engine light on and remote start will not work when this light is on. A couple weeks later it happened again and now happens multiple times in one short trip. The vehicle cannot be safely driven in fear of this happening on a busy highway or while driving across the bridge with no emergency lane. Ive heard (and believe) its the sensor.However, Im so beyond sick and tired of this crap. The vehicle is nowhere near paid off and it wont run half the time. It hasnt ran well since I bought it. Problem after problem after problem. When I look online there are tons and tons of the same complaints. These Acadias are LEMONS. I have never in my life had so many issues with a vehicle, especially that even the dealers couldnt figure out what the problem was. Not sure how or why there isnt a class-action lawsuit. These vehicles are unsafe to drive. Has anyone contacted GMC corporate? SO INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED!
Driving 45mph, when suddenly didnt seem to have power. Called my husband and he asked me to try a couple things and found out I only had 2nd gear. Had car towed to dealership where I was informed that clutch wave plate failed and required new transmission. Because Ive had the vehicle over 5 years, it wasnt covered under warranty. Cant believe with all the complaints on this transmission that GM isnt offering a recall or help with assistance. Ive talked 2 of my friends into buying Acadia because of my experience. Thank goodness they bought after 2010 which coincidentally GM revamped the entire transmission. Coincidence? I think not!
Generally I am very satisfied. However, I noticed that even in or after a light rain there is slippage in the front tires (front wheel drive). It also does not handle well in any snow. Very disappointed in this problem. Scares me to drive in any weather.
I just purchased a 2008 Acadia this month and since having this vehicle we noticed it powers down while driving and the windshield wiper guild doesnt come out at all!!! This is very disappointing and dangerous my family.
Recently, I have been noticing water coming down into my GMC Acadia during rain fall, to the extent that the car carpet was soak in water. I noticed the traces of water under the driver side dashboard and the holding handle on the front passenger side. Please, does anyone know the cause of this leakage?
I own a 2008 GMC Acadia. Bought it brand new with just 9 miles. My problems started at 70,000 miles. The first problem was even though my car is kept in the garage at home and work, it was left outside one night when it rained. My car to say the least was flooded. There was water pouring out of the vents of every single orifice possible and the floor boards were soaked. It was the fault of a part in the sunroof. When I called the dealer, they said, Oh yeah, there was a recall but not on your Acadia because your car was made in Texas and not Michigan or vise versa. Called GM. After yelling and screaming, they covered. It happened again 8 months later then again 10 months from that. I had to pay for the one after 10 months because the year warranty on the sunroof parts were up. Then came the transmission. After 77,000 miles, the transmission went out and I was on the side of the road... The dealer immediately calls a wrecker and gets me a car... I was thinking ok, this is where the dealer just flushed out the transmission and they messed something up... Here I am at 65,000 miles later and it needed transmission work again!! I called GM three times and they were able to pitch in $400 to help. Whats crazy is the dealer first told me $4800 before I spoke to GM, then changed it to $1400 after GM agreed to help pay $400. Now the sound system has completely gone whack. My car is making a static sound when the radio is off and when the car is off, my car makes a loud ear piercing popping sound from the speakers with the radio and car is turned off. My car loses sound completely - no radio, no blinker noise, no dinging sounds whatsoever including OnStar like 10 times a day... It just cuts off and on all the time at random. Ive been like some of you, a LOYAL GM owner for years and years. Ive never been so put off with a car before in my life and let me tell you, I owned some crappy GMs before, but this tops the list. For the gentleman that said you folks are the exception for GM problems with Acadia obviously works for GM and hasnt bothered to read the 100s and 100s of GMC Acadia forums out there on tons of other websites. GM does have a problem with the Acadia model and they are refusing to face facts. The one that I think is priceless is how they say there is a recall (safety seat belt light latest one and my car has this problem too) and yet your 2008 or 2007 GMC Acadia is not part of the recall... That one is priceless. GM is notorious for saying they have recalls but oh no, not on your car. Remember its on the car that was made at the other plant... LOL. I would seriously hope the lady in charge now with GM would read these forums but we all know that is not happening. Hear no, speak no....blah, blah, blah. Im done with GM... and I really hate that.
I owned a 2011 GMC Acadia for almost 5 years now with a 23500 miles on it, hardly used it due to my line of work which is always away from home. Multiple recall been corrected in which I think its ridiculous at first place, but I said, no worries, its being corrected in a way, thats good! Last week I went to San Diego to visit a friend with my family, driving there with no issue. When we head back home en-route to 101 freeway, it was drizzling a little bit that time, suddenly it chimed 3 or 4 times and wondering whats wrong, my instrument panel indicated stability track light on, reduce engine power and applied brakes, felt like I was drifting a little bit from a different lane, and loss engine power, kind a bit worry, but managed to pulled into the shoulder lane. As per the troubleshooting, turn off engine and wait for 15 seconds and start engine, nice! Stability light off with no issue except engine light on now. Managed to drive again for an hour just to head back home. Brought my Acadia to GMC service department to see whats wrong with the engine. It put out a fault code of P0700 and P182E pertaining to manual shift lever inside transmission shortening out. For 23500 miles I wouldnt expect that, and my warranty just expired last July, it cost me $1200 for that issue. Now, Im heading to Texas driving my Acadia, makes me wonder what discrepancy will my Acadia will call out.
Our 2009 GMC Acadia had 60,000 miles when it started having mechanical issues. The GMC Acadia had placed us in catastrophic danger as the engine shut down while we were driving at 65 miles per hour on the L.I.Expressway (New York) in the late evening. However, we luckily--by the grace of God--was able to verve (steer) off the HOV lane without being injured to the shoulder lane. Many passing cars recognized our emergency situation and provided space for us to move from the HOV lane. We were stranded for about 2 hours in the late evening waiting for a tow truck. The next day, we had the car diagnosed & serviced. The technician informed us that cylinders 3 &5 were misfiring. The coil pack was blown. The water seeped in the engine and battery areas. The electrical system was comprised by the water seeping in through the front windows and front hood.In addition, the Bose stereo, navigation system, back up camera were comprised by the electrical system problem. The repairs will cost approximately $5,000 to $8,000!! This is appalling & disgusting. The warranty has ended and the repair costs are beyond our means. We are demanding GMC to buyback these LEMON GMC Acadias, as it obviously has many design flaws &mechanical flaws. SHAME ON GMC to expect consumers to continually be disrespected by design & manufacturing mistakes.
My car referenced below is currently dead since 12/15/2011. Diagnosis showed 3 cylinders compression pressure out of 6 is 0. Then they found that the engine is sludge.I brought the car to GMC for inspection on 9/28/2011. The car warranty expired on 9/17/2011. I have 3 questions: 1) Should the inspection procedure detect that there is a problem prior to the collapse of the motor? The car did run for almost 3000 kilometers post the inspection and prior to motor death. 2) Shouldnt GMC still fix this car and consider it still within the warranty? This is because (a) the car was inspected within 10 days of the warranty. The GMC dealer in Lebanon could not take it sooner. GMC dealer told me that they would still consider it under warranty. Also, (b) I really believe that the inspections done by the GMC dealer in Lebanon should have detected it. I cannot imagine the problem if done properly and diligently. I cannot imagine a great company such as GMC would have a bad diagnostic program. And (c) regardless of warranty, how can Acadia die after 30,600 kilometers (less than 20,000 miles), and GMC corporate people in the USA are not all over this lemon car?I would think that the GMC engineering community would be extremely interested in this case and want to learn all about it and come out with a very conclusive conclusion. Instead, the company is allowing a bunch of crooks and bad business/service personnel operate this GMC dealership. It is such organizations that create bad reputations for their mother company, because they put maximized profitability in front of quality and customer care.3) What can cause the death of the Acadia car within 20,000 miles? I brought the car for inspections and oil changes at 11530 kilometers and 27,651 kilometers. Please look into this and take a disciplinary action against your Lebanese GMC dealership and force them to fix the car asap. I expect great companies to act in an honorable way and to keep their customers happy and keep their reputation sky high.Please let me know, I am anxiously waiting,
This car has been the worst thing that has ever happened to me! Problem after problem! Transmission replaced, continued to have problems, water leaks, actually water pouring in car from dvd player and interior lights, had recall years back, said they replaced tubes, paid for this same problem a few times, then got so bad and complained, they finally sealed it all up and replaced the headliner that was completely water stained! Radio went out due to water damage and I had to pay because they said it was the fuse box! Radio and dvd worked shortly, then back and forth with nothing. I have driven car for over a year with it working/not working. When it doesnt work, no onstar either! So a lot of good the emergency phone is to me! Towed back to the shop again today! Engine light. Running horribly. Put in reverse, jumped forward, rpms shooting up, sounds like something dropped into a woodchipper from under the hood. Oh and headlight is filled with water. First and last GM I will ever own! Its a pretty looking package, but its a pandoras box. GM is bankrupting my family! Thanks GM, youre the best!
Nothing but issues with our 2011 and it just hit 60000 miles. Multiple recalls, alternator, water pump, multiple issues with the front end, air conditioning and heat are all issues that have had to be replaced or fixed. My wife has been left stranded 3 times, twice with the kids, and once was only a couple of days after we dropped it off for our warranty covered inspection/oil change/tire rotation.. Also have multiple friends with the same vehicle and they all have had the same issues and more. Two friends with transmission issues and another with engine failure after the transmission was replaced with just over 100000 miles on it. Ours now is starting to have a burning smell after being driven and takes a second before it knocks and goes into gear. Very disappointed in GM and wont purchase another.
I purchased my 2012 Denali from an Authorized dealer in Anchorage Alaska. I live in a rural community in Alaska and had my car barged to me in Nome Alaska. I have serviced my car 2 times a year with our local mechanic. My car as less than 25,000 miles on it. I drive less than 4 miles round trip to work at 25 to 30 miles per hr. This car has never been ran hard. This SUV is now in Catastrophic engine failure!!! The only way to check on what is going on with it is to pull the engine. If there is an issue with the engine we should just replace it due to the cost of whatever could be the problem and no guarantees it will not happen again. My mechanic explained that this is a known issue with these engines and there is no way of preventing it from happening even if we replace the engine!!! I feel like I have a beautiful piece of junk. I loved everything about this SUV. I paid top $$$ to have a nice reliable vehicle. I will never buy a GMC again.
2008 GMC Acadia - So far purchased 2010 45k. When it rains the interior smells like a smelly gym locker. I replace headlights two times. The broke transmission second gear and reverse $1500. Thats no labor charge. My husband is certified mechanic. 4 recalls on it? Filling car with gas, the car wont start after doing so. Acceleration problems, air condition problems. I Do regular maintenance every 2500 miles. Not happy and still paying for it. The body is nice and well its a piece of junk. I will never buy one again.
I thought for sure I had not only a beautifully used (with 2 normal previous owners) Acadia. Mint condition. My kids and I finally felt like we were moving up. The coils were replaced, drive shaft per recall was replaced and now all of a sudden car is dead due to engine and timing chain. 2009 GMC Acadia gave me false hope. Still have two years left of payments and I have no idea how I am going to afford to get my car out of the shop now. Am contemplating on getting an attorney.
I first saw the 2008 Red Jewel Tint Coat GMC Acadia at my local county fair in September 2007. I sat in the drivers seat and said, One day Ill own one. On November 7, 2007, I drove home the PROUD owner of a beautiful American product. I couldnt wait to show it off and brag about the Crossover I called my own. Talk about love of a vehicle... this was it. I found it inconvenient that only certain dealerships were even certified to work on my baby, unless it was the dealer I bought it from, they could work on it (but really? If it takes someone especially certified, I dont want to take it to the dealer I bought it from if they arent certified) plus, Id have to say that this is the first vehicle Ive ever heard of that requires a special certification to service the vehicle to keep the warranty intact. I faithfully maintained it and did everything I was told needed to be done (granted things like changing air filters, I did myself for the cost of the part vs. the cost of the part + $100 to have it done). The front-end of the transmission was rebuilt at 44,000 miles. Water pump required replacement, there were a couple recalls (minor), and an enormous issue with the A/C system (which eventually got fixed). Now, I must say GM took care of all of these problems, without issue. Kudos, it sounds like I may be the only one. Oh, and the driver side door seal leaks, so my seat gets wet when it rains (never fixed it as it was past the bumper-to-bumper warranty when it started and couldnt afford to repair it with the already near $600/month payment). However, I am now at 126,334 miles on the odometer and my love is near lost. I paid it off last spring and am now having several repairs, which would be VERY costly to have the dealership fix. In most recent weeks, I have replaced the spark plugs (as a general tune up and PM due at 100,000 miles), immediately had check engine light on and flashing-vehicle began running very rough, idling up and down, and near chugging at times. ONstar reported multiple engine misfires and spit out the following codes: P03000, P0174, P0171. Now along with that, the traction control began intermittently turning itself off (which I know it does when the check engine light is on or when it senses something off). Upon researching these codes we decided the best action would be to replace the problem coils.... P0174 and P0171 cited lean fuel conditions in the respective cylinders and after reading all the reviews, I decided to replace all coils. Ok new spark plugs and new coils... should run great. Unhooked the battery to clear the codes and CEL. Still having the same problems except now the CEL isnt coming on. Next thought, replace the fuel pump. It could be the problem, I did after all have the trouble with -40 wind chills that it wouldnt even kick on so that I could start the vehicle. 2 days later it started working again (thought a fluke, maybe a short or a loose wire), havent had any further problems until this now..... Overall, I like the Acadia, but am really beginning to become discouraged. I keep thinking, I get this fixed and the exhaust replaced (which just rusted through in a small area) and everything will be good to go, but what happens when the timing chain needs replaced (thats a high bill) the cover has already been leaking forever and the dealership never bothered to enlighten me on that. Power steering fluid is leaking out like its in a sieve - made sure everything is tight and now am running Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak in it to try to keep fluid in it as long as possible and hopefully prevent failure and required replacement of the pump or worse yet, the rack-and-pinion. I can see where it might get really costly (more than it is right now) to continue to drive this vehicle. I do have to say I havent driven the Acadia in near 3 weeks as Im afraid it will leave me stranded. Its a shame that GM quit making the 3.8 (3800). I had multiple vehicles with that motor and never had to do anything to them other than change the oil, sparks plugs, air/oil filters, and 1 alternator. Bring back the proven equipment and ditch the new garbage. Thankfully, last spring I bought a KIA Optima for my primary transportation to and from work. It is getting me everywhere I need to go since the Acadia is down, sucks though - I got stuck in the snow because the snow was simply too deep and the tires wouldnt touch the ground any longer. Wish I had the Acadia to drive in the snow, it is after all a record breaking winter!
2010 GMC Acadia. I bought this car December 2015. Start good after that I have to spend every other week by a mechanic and everything with something I have to install and lots of repair. Just name it. Transmission, most of the control arms, ball joint, power steering rack and pinion. Just lemon. Will never buy any GMC anymore.
I have a 2010 Acadia SLT. I love my car however upon my last visit to the dealership for regular tune up we discovered the car was leaking oil which led to completely taking the car apart. This car was purchased new in 2010 and was $38000.00. It has 65,000 miles on it and we have had very little issues - the recalls. Not too bad. This car is very safe and rides and handles very well after 6 years. I am even considering getting a new Acadia Denali. I do feel like now that the car has over 50,000 miles - little things are going to start going wrong. When I went in for my last tune up the service manager gave me a list of things that my car was due to have done to it. Thankfully my husband is a retired mechanic for Ford and knew that it was all a bunch of crock. A car this expensive with that has been maintained as scheduled should last well over 150,000.00 miles. Not sure if it will.
Only 38000 miles (2013 GMC ACADIA SLT) and rear AC evaporator and blower failed. Dealer wants $1300 and GM will not acknowledge this problem and do a recall. Not buying another GM again. This is a common problem.
I bought my GMC Acadia fully loaded in March 2008. It started to leak in November of the same year. I had it repaired under warranty and they said that it was a factory issue that was happening to other Acadia owners. About a year later, it starts to leak from different places. Long story short, now that I have no warranty left, the dealers say that I have to pay for the repairs. I dont think I should have to pay for something that I didnt cause or not from normal wear and tear.
Leased a 2014 Acadia at the end of September of 2013 from Circle GMC in Highland, IN. Since that time we have experienced repeated issues with the fuel gauge dropping to completely empty, while much more gas is in the tank. Have taken it in for service 7 times already and have spent numerous more times talking with them and calling Corporate GMC. They have tried reprogramming a couple times, checking a float in the tank, replacing a cluster, etc. They tell me nobody else has this issue, and the loaners I have had have not had this issue. Their end-solution was for me to always keep half a tank of gas in the vehicle. Theres a solution for you. Now when the tank is nearly full, it shows over full. Salesman tells me, Hey, I dont make em, I just sell em.
I purchased my 2007 GMC Acadia brand New. A week after owning it, the liftgate shocks went bad, it hit me in the head putting groceries away. I NOTICED a popping sound coming from the steering, as Id turn, took it in, according to them its fine... 3 weeks, I was just driving and it completely shut down no warning, I had to put it into park, restart it. Took it in, ran a diagnosis and nothing. December 2008, winter I was driving the car, the gas pedal went to the floor again, no warning, almost wrecked into a pole. Ive had continuous issues with my SUV, with the warranty, even worse now that I paid it off, repairs are more than anything else. Approximately 4000.00 in repairs now. I feel I should get a replacement being that this SUV only has 47,000 miles on it!!! Currently its in the shop, for the throttle body, last month I formed out $900.00 for brakes! Paid $125 For evap. valve. Im sick of this unsafe cartel or junk. I dont even take my child around in it because its not safe!
GMC Acadia - Good morning! My husband and I purchased this vehicle in 2007 and it caught on fire within the month. Then, again the same thing happened, and then they had to replace something, and something else, and something else. I met with the area person in charge of working out these issues who gave me coverage until next June, and now again I am experiencing another problem. The ignition won’t turn all the way to allow the key to come out. Please do not get me wrong, the employees are very wonderful, but wonderful will not solve my problem. Please, how can you help me? The engine switched off while I am driving my 2010 Acadia on the 2nd of September 2012. Fortunately, I was driving in a service road on low speed so I handled the situation. However, I recovered the car to Ras Al Khor service center where they kept the car for over than 6 working days to resolve the issue, which is as per their diagnoses was a wiring problem led to electricity short in the car. They handed over the car to me on 10th of September under supervision of Mr. **, delivery coordinator who confirmed that the issue is resolved. However, last Tuesday, 2nd of October, I was driving my car when the engine switched off again without any sign. I would assure you that it’s only my good luck that I wasn’t driving my car on high speed and I luckily handled the situation in both incidents. I really lost the trust in my car which I directly bought from GMC and did all the services through your service centers. Mr. ** (the service manager) assured me that he will personally take care of my car problem and he will call me back, which he didn’t. And till now, nobody called me and all I got are false promises.
I bought a 2008 Acadia a few years ago. I will never buy another GMC. When we first brought it home it had to go back so the whole rear end clutch system could be replaced. Then they said the tires had to be the same tread so the stabilitrak light would stay off and it still comes on all the time, and says service brake system until I add brake fluid then light goes off for a while. It makes a loud grinding noise on left turns and the dealership dont know why. Seems to me they dont have anyone that can figure out these Acadias and then I had no power steering and the power steering pump had to be replaced and when I picked it up from shop the shocks and struts broke. They told me the seals gave way after being on lift for six and half hours so I got stuck paying 600 for that. Now it keeps telling me transmission over heating let idle. And when I get gas it dont wanna start. I just give up and will be trying to trade in very soon.
I purchased a new 2011 GMC Acadia and three years (38,500 miles) after driving, I was advised by my local dealer that there was a leak in the rack and pinion, and on the steering wheel gear. The cost to repair these was quoted at no less than $1,500. Fortunately, the dealer agreed to perform repairs on goodwill. I was not aware that these were a common issue with Acadias. During the time Ive owned it, I have had to repair electrical wiring on the passenger window as it wouldnt always roll up/down. I have also noticed that when driving on the freeway it slows down/cranks up when shifting gears. I am very disappointed in having to deal with these issues when I still have a note for the vehicle. I contacted GMC directly and posed a few questions which they werent able to answer. 1. What is the guarantee on repairs made? A. No guarantee. 2. What is the average repair cost to own an Acadia? A. They dont have that information. 3. How reliable are Acadias? A. Very reliable vehicle. When I asked if they were aware of low reliability rating on Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds, their response was that they were not aware of that. After my phone call I have decided to sell my Acadia because I deem it unsafe and unreliable and obviously, GMC doesnt stand by its product. Never looking back to GMC.
Purchased a used with 50000 miles 2009 Acadia. All routine PM completed on Acadia. First problem occurred at 75000 miles. Transmission began to slip, felt like engine missing, then reverse went out, heard a pop. There is a plate in there that snapped. GMC replaced the Tranny. Happy for that. Second problem 76000 miles, O2 sensors changed, 102$ each. Next the converters failed. Replaced the front and I gutted the rear one. Engine light stayed on but ran fine a little rich. Converters are 450-560$. Next problem the passenger door window not working fixed myself. Next problem the rear hatch collapsed on my wifes back and her back is broken due to this. Next problem, the power steering pump went out, it would work fine then stop all of a sudden. My wife and I were constantly avoiding wrecks due to this. Take the Acadia to dealer for recall. They tell me they need to see if the number on the pump is the recalled one. Im like, Well its bad so... must be... A week later... The service guy tells me, Well your strut is out, your motor mounts are bad, and your rack and pinion need to be replaced. Its leaking oil. They had Acadia for a week and still did not look at the pump. I take it home, replace the rack and pinion and both struts, the motor mounts were not bad at all. I take it back to the dealer and tell him, Ok, here. Check to see if the pump is the recall one. He calls me two days later says to me, Until you replace the rack and pinion we cant check the pump. I blow my fuse, tell him not very nicely the parts I replaced. I take Acadia home then order a pump on eBay 150$. Change it myself in a hour. CURRENT problem, fill up with gas Acadia dies in the middle of my left turn in traffic. Get help tow it home. I checked fuel pressure it was low so I changed the fuel pump myself 150$, and put brand new plugs in it. Before I send to dealer I had friend who is a mechanic put code computer on it, throws 6 codes over and over. I research web, says code related to timing chain stretched. I send to dealer telling them the codes. They call me next day say, Your plugs are black, burnt up. I say, That is brand new plugs. Never ran with them. How can they be burnt up? Then he says, Ill put factory set in and try again. Calls me back says, Well I have real bad news, we ran a oil analysis on the Acadia and you have signs of metal in your oil. Then tells me the rear converter got sucked into the engine (the one I gutted out) and caused the crank shaft and pistons to fail, and I need a engine. Also tells me they got the Acadia running but it would not go over 1500 rpm. So Im like, Well you just told me the engine was running but not over 1500 rpm, how can the crank shaft and pistons be bad if this is the case? Far as the oil and metal all oil will have trace of metal at this mileage its called wear. I am so disgusted with this dealership and GMC in general. I will never buy anything GMC makes again. 37,000$ AND WE DROVE THE CAR FOR ONLY 70,000 MILES.This is Courtesy GMC in Broussard LA. Do not go there people. Every time this service guy talks to me about my car it is all lies. I dont think they even looked into the converter, if they did they would have seen it was gutted completely. My main gripe is how they jump to these conclusions so fast without getting in there and working on things. Its like they see one thing and stop and blame everything on that one issue which has for me been never the main problem with this Acadia.
I have a 2009 GMC truck with 80 thousand KM on it. The transmission failed. I do not tow heavy lousy 14-foot boat and trailer with a 15hp engine on it. A 1.5 cylinder car could tow this boat. Cost me 3500.00 for replacement transmission. STAY AWAY from GMC trucks... or buy one and put 3500.00 aside cause youre going to need it!
I purchased my 2011 GMC Acadia Denali new and have always serviced at the dealership. Two weeks ago my engine stalled at a stop sign. I had it towed to the dealer thinking it was the alternator, but turns out my engine went with only 58,000 miles. The dealer contacted me yesterday after the vehicle being there for two weeks now. They informed me that the bill will be $9,500 and that GM will cover $4,300 and I will need to cover the $5,200 balance. I had just replaced the defective navigation system in February 2018 which entailed replacing the entire radio as well. I have been loyal GM customer my entire life with all of my new vehicle purchases. Unfortunately loyalty does not seem to really matter with this company. I had been planning on buying the new 2020 Cadillac XT6 next year.
In 2015 I bought a 2009 at 81000 miles. Since I have purchased it we have replaced the rear shocks, timing chain, coils, wheel bearings, power window motors and the sunroof drain tube was leaking into the blower assembly. It has been an absolute nightmare. The power mirrors have now quit working, the DVD player on the drivers seat only works half the time and my current check engine light is due to a bad catalytic converter. Ive had this car 15 months. I parked it for 4 because I couldnt afford to fix it at one point. Its the only car I have a payment on. I bought it with no warranty from a reputable car dealership close to me in Fishers Indiana. DONT BUY THIS CAR. Im trading it in next week.
2010 GMC Acadia Blown Engine - Family took vacation to Colorado from Oklahoma Summer of 2015. Two hours outside of Denver @ 75mph engine shuts off. I barely get the SUV off the road, lucky we werent killed. Tow to SUSS GMC in Aurora, Colorado. Explain situation hoping to get the car up and running as we are on vacation. No Loaner car, No help with a rental car and 3 days later they say, Blown engine that will be $8600. The vehicle is 4 months out of warranty with 87k on it. This car already had one engine replaced under warranty, and now less than 20k later the replacement engine had blown. Obviously defective and poor workmanship and diagnosis by Ferguson GMC in Oklahoma.Nobody will stand behind the vehicle. Its sad. Im a GM guy. First car was a 68 Impala my grandpa gave me. I have had 7 GM since high school. What a disappointment this is... I cant get anybody to work with me or give me any help at all. My Supervisor Specialist has yet to call me back in a weeks time. Customer Experience - 0, Customer Satisfaction - 0.
Purchased 2009 GMC Acadia with 50k miles in 2012. Has been in for numerous recalls and repairs since 2nd day after purchase. 3 times to dealership for leaking fuel which was from fuel injectors and faulty o-ring that led to cabin filling with dangerous gas fumes, 3 times to shop for ignition coil replacement where dealership ignored the ECM technical bulletin. Replaced #3 coil 3 times (it was literally melted), 1 failed actuator, 1 engine rebuild when dealership failed to identify actuator as issue, actuator replacement, complete power steering failure after it was simply serviced due to recall limitations. 6 tows in all. And it is now in shop for ECM and you guessed it. Ignition coils/spark plugs. How much did GM help? They offered $1500 towards new car purchase. Not even close to repair costs. How knowledgeable was dealership service department? HORRIBLE. Did not identify correct issues, upsold repairs, ignored technical bulletins, and wiggled out of recall replacement of power steering. My warranty that I purchased covered some costs but even with warranty and extended service plan, I have paid out over $6k in a 2.5 yr period plus been on side of road more times than I can count. Cannot trade in due to very little market value. Stuck with worthless car that is costing a fortune. It was obviously a lemon and GM needs to acknowledge that and extend bumper to bumper coverage or buy out consumers. At this point I am surprised that I have not caught fire, blown up, or wrecked when power steering failed. This is a dangerous vehicle and people should stay away from it. I have over 20 service tickets.
It is a shame that a less than 5 years old Acadia 2012 with less than 50,000 miles feels like a run-down vintage! Central Lock malfunction second day I purchased the brand new car (1st day after purchase, at 5 miles!!!) CV damaged (first year). Middle Seat Closure mechanism broken first six months. Engine mounts are broken (after three years). Air distributor is broken (after four years). Engine bracket is broken (after four years). To add insult the injury the dealer is incompetent, promotes an extended warranty that doesnt extend to anything, and only finds out problems after the expiration of the warranty. It is either GM sells Lemons or off-spec vehicles in Saudi Arabia, or the Saudi Specs are designed for junk cars. Either way, never again. I have advised five of my friends and family members interested in GM cars against buying them.
After I tow my new acadia awd denali, even for a short distance, the vehicle will back up but wont go forward until I turn it off several time and let it run for a long time, until the fluid lubricates the awd system. Have taken to dealer with no satisfaction. Is anyone else having this same problem?
I am a GMC 2008 Acadia owner. I have seen many forums related to the above subject. I am in a very similar situation. I have heard the whine or moan type noise when I would turn the steering wheel. I took my Acadia in the GMC dealer in Merced, CA. They quoted me an outrageous amount of $1,800.00+ to have it fixed. It is out of warranty and I did not have the funds to pay for the work/parts. Now my A/C has went out. I took it in to a local radiator shop and they informed me it was caused by the power steering line making contact with the A/C line and has caused a hole in it. The part for the A/C line is over $700.00. I am at a loss here and have nowhere else to turn to for help on this vehicle. As it stands now, I am currently out of an A/C that was caused by the power steering line. As I understand by reviewing many forums, this is a known issue that many of GMC Acadias have had. Desperately seeking assistance on this from GMC.
I bought my 2009 GMC Acadia new. It just turned 62,000 miles. All 6 ignition coils have been replaced (not all at once). Numbers 4 and 6 went first. Then 3 and 5 went. Since theyre at the back near the firewall I had number 1 replaced too since the intake manifold had to be removed to accomplish the repair. A little over 2 weeks ago number 2 had to be replaced. The replacement of 6 coils is unacceptable for a vehicle with mileage as low as mine. Of course we all know about the timing chain issues and transmission flex plate problems. GM should be ashamed of this 3.6 liter motor and the transmission. The comfort and passenger compartment is great. Of course when you have to have your vehicle towed over 100 miles to get back home from vacation that comfort doesnt help. Thats what happened to my family Saturday. This junk is in the shop now with my mechanic. He is very honest and doesnt try to sell you service you dont need. You can look over his shoulder if you want to. He left dealership service due to their dishonest practices. Im getting no ignition to 2, 4, and 6. This isnt a coil issue. It probably is a wiring harness issue or fuse box issue. He explained the flimsy fuse boxes. The fuse boxes are made of layers of flimsy metal sheets so the sockets for the fuses wear out. I also may have damaged my cat by driving with the constant misfires resulting in dumping unignited fuel into the cat. I also have a broken front motor mount, another piece of junk as he states. All of this with around 62,000 miles. Buyer beware. My wife wanted this car bad and I bought without doing research. Never again. I may go for a Honda Pilot next time, after I do lots of research. BTW, I guess most of you know that the Acadia and the Chevy Traverse are the same. I forget the Buick equal.
We bought our Acadia in the summer of 2017. Within 2 weeks of owning it we had to take it to the shop for motor and catalytic converter issues. Long story short, we have now owned the car for two years and have only been able to drive it/ have it parked in our driveway for 6 months. Those 6 months arent even consecutive, more like the weeks in between shop visits. During those visits numerous motors were put into the car along with new parts to whatever they could see needing fixed. At first we thought it was the shop doing a bad job but after the THIRD shop we visited, it became clear to us it is something with the car and not us. Every mechanic we have talked too says the motor for the Acadia and a couple other GMC/Chev models just don’t last past 32,000 miles. We cant even get rid of the vehicle due to the never ending check engine light and its constant engine light led to it failing inspection making the car undrivable (eventually we did get a passed inspection). Our last visit had the car pulling up 19 error readings, most involving the Transmission and Motor. There is no end to the problems on this vehicle and we have barley driven it.
Apparently the wave plate in the transmission of these cars, as well as some other GMC autos, is defective. My transmission started flaring when it was trying to shift from 1st to 2nd, and again from second to third. It also whined noticeably when I was stopped. I had to replace it with a re-manufactured transmission. I had 110,000 miles on it so it was out of warranty. GM reduced the price by 20% but it still cost me about $3600. Many people are experiencing this problem and many are under 100,000 miles. I feel that GMC should have a fix for this issue. A recall would be the right thing to do. So do it.
I purchased a 2015 GMC Acadia in September 2014. The steering wheel shakes terribly. Ive brought it to the dealer several times. At first they said the tires had flat spots and would correct itself. Then they did a special wheel alignment on it. 40,000 miles later and having brought it to other shops (shops specializing in tires) I am still having the issue. In March 2015 (6 months after purchase) I had to have the brakes, rotors, brake pads, calipers, --everything replaced at a GM dealership in Florida as the rear brakes etc were completely rusted out. They had to use a sledgehammer to get things off. In September 2015, I had to have the same rear brake parts replaced as they had rusted out again!I used to drive 100,000 miles a year and never had this happen. Now I drive 20,000 and the brakes are rusting out. Ive lived in the same area for 60 years, so its not that Ive moved. I love the Acadia - but with the shaking steering wheel and the brakes rusting out, I wouldnt recommend buying it. Also the XM radio goofs up (not a big deal but it does happen) and they installed their WIFI in the Acadia and it shows theres a signal, but you cant use the WIFI.
We purchased 2008 GM Arcadia and have had nothing but problems... from water leaks inside the car, electrical problems, throttle body etc. GM does not stand behind their product and I warn anyone looking... not to buy any GM product!
2011 GMC Acadia 49000 miles, water pump went out. Noticeable loose transmission gear issues, i.e., parked on a decline, driver puts into reverse gear and vehicle rolls forward two to three feet. This also happens when on an incline too. Plus, long period to wait for transmission to change from one gear to the next, such as from park to reverse and reverse to drive. After the water pump had been replaced, cars frame is noticeably creaking when going around corners/turns.
I purchased a 2009 GMC Acadia in July of 2011. Since then, I have had major issues with the car. I took it in to get serviced at GMC Baytown where I purchased the vehicle because it was running rough. When I got up to 70, the car would surge and vibrate to the point that I thought it was going to completely die on me. They fixed the car after 3 weeks of having a rental and poor communication from them. I got the car back and it was not fixed; it did the same thing before I even got it home. I live in Hamshire, Texas, so I was driving over 30 minutes to the dealership for service. I again took the car back and they changed more parts and again, it was not fixed. After trip 4, they finally realized it was the engine coils. After so many problems, I asked the dealership to buy back the vehicle for my current balance and they were very rude and talked horrible to me. The owner even said I was lying about his salesman Scott not calling me back after 10-15 phone calls about a new vehicle. It was so bad my husband went to get the vehicle and made them apologize to me. The salesman Scott did apologize and stated, Im sorry for not calling you. I have no excuses why I didnt call. I know you are aggravated about your air conditioner being out and that is understandable. He didnt even know why my car was even there. Then the next day, my power steering went out and they refused to look at it and told me to take it to another dealership because nothing they worked on could have affected it. I took my vehicle to another mechanic and we found that a piece they had worked on was broken and replaced it with a drinking straw! My car is still broken.
With so many choices out here in SUVs I shopped for a long time and decided on the 2014 GMC Acadia SLE 2 for many reasons. I began noticing them in 2008 and everyone I spoke with about them seemed very pleased both with their performance and the comfortable ride. It has WI FI and all the whistles and bells but to be honest I dont care a thing about any of that. I care about reliability and efficiency. For a big heavy SUV it gets 27 MPG Highway if youre not a lead foot, and it is truly my dream car. It also has the towing package and can pull a 2 horse trailer loaded, or big boat etc.I purchased it in Dec. 2015 from Eagle Buick GMC in Homosassa, Florida. In the past Ive owned Jeep Cherokees, Nissans and Toyotas. But I just didnt get the comfortable ride or performance this Acadia offers. I also have to be honest. I was disappointed in the 2017 model. GMC has reduced it to be honest to a smaller version and not the ride the 2016s back to 2008 have. The new one looks more like an old souped up GMC Jimmy than an Acadia.
2013 GMC Acadia Denali with 13,500 miles. The driver seat bezel is cracked. Brought it in to the dealer for warranty repairs. Was told by the dealer that this problem is very common and there is no stock available to fix the seat. I am now on a waiting list to get it fixed. Because the crack is so bad I now have packing tape holding the electronic seat controls from falling out of the seat housing. Since this is so common, why is there no re-call and why isnt GMC doing more to keep up with the parts demand?
I bought a brand new 2014 Acadia in December. It is now August and I have had 3 different problems. When the car was 6 weeks old, my car died in a parking lot (leaving me blocking parked cars) in 20 degree weather with my 3 year old in the car. After being towed to the dealership, I was told that I didnt have any fuel in the tank although it said I had 54 miles to empty (OnStar confirmed). This was found to be a problem with the reading in the tank and shortly after became a recall. Two months later I started hearing a crunching sound in the tires when I turned a corner. This ended up being some belt that wasnt getting the right amount of fluid so it snapped. That repair took three days so I had to have a rental car... even though I paid top dollar for a brand new car, I was riding around in a rental car. At this point, I was very frustrated but still loved the look and roominess of this vehicle. During the summer I started hearing a squealing when I turned the air conditioner on. Within days I was getting no cold air on very hot days. The dealership could not find a leak but recharged it and sent me home. Within a week and a half the squealing started again... clearly a problem! So I called to report it but was leaving for vacation the next day so made an appointment for the day I got back. I took it in and they ran a light over the system to see if there was a leak... no leak found and sent me home. Within two days while driving with my children in the car, we could not get any cold air and it was a very hot, humid day. Now Im riding around in my new car with my windows down sweating. I called right away and was told that my car would not give as much cold air while idling (what??) and that the air conditioner might not be able to keep up with the humidity! Really, are you kidding me? Why did I pay this much for a car that cannot keep me cold when its hot all summer? They told me to bring it back in and they would run the light over it again. I didnt have a day that I could stop and it had cooled off outside so I was getting colder air...so apparently my brand new car really cant handle humidity... What a piece of junk! So, its hot again (over 90 degrees) and we literally cant breathe in the car. It is blowing hot air when its humid out. My husband called and spoke with the service manager who said he would call back which he did... 9 hours later and left a voice mail. He said they would run a light over it and if it didnt show a leak there was nothing they could do about it and the car could only cool to 64 degrees in this humidity level. Another joke, it never got to 64 degrees, more like 84 degrees blowing on us and if it says 60 thats what it should get to. Another person that tells me my car cant handle the humidity. Its going in today to have another checkup with the light. Is it only me or could the system just not work properly? How could we pay so much and have such a problematic car... so frustrated!!
I own a 2008 Acadia that note had 85,000 miles on it. My transmission went due to a bracket that broke, of course my warranty has expired, but prior to its expiration I had it in the garage twice, not even a GMC certified transmission expert could find a problem. Of course you are not going to find a problem, unless you open the casing and see that there is a cracked bracket causing mischief that is eventually going to cause a total loss. Im a little fortunate because the dealer I bought it from help pay for half, but thanks GM. Nothing like spending money you dont have before Christmas.
My 2010 Acadia is needing its 3rd water pump. I have already had to have the struts replaced and now the dealership is saying I need them again. I am being informed my timing chains are stretched and need replacing too. This has truly been the worst vehicle I have ever purchased and will definitely steer clear of making that mistake again. Despite the multiple complaints over many of these same issues, the only thing I can get covered under warranty by GMC is the water pump... of course, the least expensive thing to fix. Its a shame the company will not help the consumers out, but in the end, they are only hurting themselves. Never buying GM again!
I purchased my 2009 GMC Acadia from the dealer 15 mos ago. There was no problems until my headlights started flickering. I carried to the dealership to find out my HID lights have melted the casing so I had to get a headlight assembly that which cost $1373.04. They said that it was not covered under the warranty. It shouldve been electrical. Why? Its HID lights get hot enough to melt the casing. There should be a recall on those.
I see the complaints are about everything but the 2010 model. At 70,000 miles we just began experiencing hard start after refueling. Otherwise a wonderful vehicle.
2009 GMC Acadia was exactly what I wanted...so I thought! Little did I know that I would be driving with my 5 year old in the car when it essentially shut off in the middle of the Interstate at less than 2 years old! That was the beginning of the END. It was year 2011 and this amazing car became nothing more than a Lemon... It needed a NEW ENGINE. I knew I was in for it and I was right. All of these posts are exactly what Ive been through. I dont remember all of the correct descriptions but StabiliTrak, steering pump, motor mount are just a few to mention. I was hoping to keep the car for ONE more year...but now the car wont shift...wont go. Guess what? Wave plate fractured sending pieces of ground metal teeth throughout the transmission. Refurbished transmission needed for $4,800 or new for $6,800. I was happy to receive the wave plate recall letter in the mail but lucky me the tranny died after 120k miles so its not covered. I called GM to discuss a better cost for a transmission.. I said Im not asking for a new car. Im not asking for a new transmission. I simply needed my GMC Acadia to function through 2015 and $4,800 is a high price to pay considering the thousands already invested in repairs. Theyve known about the so-called wave plate issue for a long time...before my car passed the 120k mark.
I purchased a New 2021 GMC Acadia. Within 100 miles I discovered 360 Camera didn’t work. Automatic Braking, Lane change and road departure were all dysfunctional. GMC has had camera issues for several yrs. Continued selling know the safety issues. I would recommend you avoid this vehicle at all costs. Mine has less than 1000 miles and I’m going back to Honda and take the loss.
Electrical problems..low oil, airbag & low tire pressure sensors going off. Sensor goes off tells me to shut the engine off. Transmission slipping. Acadia stops in middle of traffic.
2007 GMC Acadia - Just left home, driving along at 25 mph and my transmission stopped working. The car just stalled. Point blank. This really is awful as I have read that GMC hasnt issued a transmission/powertrain recall? Is this true? Acadias are not cheap and less than 65,000 miles, this happens? Oh and the kicker, GMC chat personnel tells me that I MAYBE can be qualified for assistance to pay for repairs! I am so angry I will never ever buy another GMC product again and will tell everyone my experience!
Ignition issues. Took car in twice. Only had the car few days after buying it at Cherry Hill Mitsubishi, and have been stuck and stalled at gas stations, in parking lots, etc. If anyone knows issue or resolution - it is GMC Acadia 2014 SLT-1. Disappointing experience all around.
I never paid attention to my expense on fixing the GMC Acadia 2009 since I bought it brand new. This car has been a pain in my rear end. Since I bought the car, I have changed the timing belt, put a new transmission, and two years ago, the engine stopped. The vehicle was towed to a GM dealership for repair. The mechanic told my wife that the engine is full of sludge and needed to be replaced. He also told my wife that the reason the vehicle was in a bad shape was because we never took care of the vehicle. My wife called me and explained what the GM service agent told her. I called the guy and had him pull the service record on the vehicle which was under my name. It was then that the service guy realized that since we bought the vehicle, they had been servicing the vehicle for us. I reminded him that whatever was wrong with the car was caused by them since they have been the maintenance personnel from jump street. He then fixed the vehicle and that cost us about 2000 dollars instead of 5000 dollars and change that they quoted my wife.Now the vehicle had check engine check light come on. We took the vehicle to the mechanic to figure out why the light came on. After their diagnoses, he told us that they had to change the Ignition coil, spark plugs, Intake gasket kit e.t.c. This whole thing cost me $1,999.51. Before I picked up the vehicle, the low oil pressure light came on. They checked the oil and it was full. They drained it, flushed the lines and storage place for the oil two times and after driving the vehicle for a quarter of a mile, the low oil pressure light came back on. They finally told me that it was a sludge problem. I called GMC and reported the problem for them to tell me to take it to the same GM group that told me two years ago to change the engine for a new engine. The kicker is that now that Ive paid off the note on the car, with a new engine it would have another 100,000 mile warranty. And it would cost me $7500.00 dollars to do that. GM knows what they are doing and they take our money and take us for a fool. I wish someone could advise on how to take this people to court and make them pay for their wickedness. We cannot continue to pay for junk.
I bought this 2008 Acadia with 88,000 miles and got extended warranty. We have put 10,000 miles on it since December. Have had nothing but problems with power steering, windows leak, window regulator gone in passenger door. Abs light and traction light on and now bucks and skips between 30 and 50 miles an hour... GMC, thanks. You suck, Government Motors... Trying to trade in for Ford Explorer.. GMC, you need to stand behind your ** ups!!!!
We have had multiple problems with our 2008 GMC Acadia. The one that we will be bringing it in for for the 3rd time is a leaky sunroof. In hard rains, it leaks internally leaving us with a very soaked passenger side floor and electrical issues - the first time the car wouldnt shut off even after removing the key. Ive researched this and have found multiple complaints from this model year and others. The dealership claims its not a manufacturers problem. The first time I brought it in and told them the issue (leaking sunroof), they claimed the water was coming up from underneath the car. I went to pick it up on a day with heavy rain. Before leaving the dealership, I tried turning it off and it continued to run even with the key removed - service person was very embarrassed especially after I told him the issue and they said I was wrong. Took it in again with the same problems and they said the sunroof drain was clogged. That was last fall. Today we had a hard rain. The floor is soaked again. My biggest complaint is the dealership/manufacturer not owning up to the problem. As I said, there are numerous blogs with the same complaints, but they wont own up to it. I hate even looking at them, i.e., dealership, any more.
At 60,600 miles, just out of warranty, my coil failed. Now at 67000 the catalytic converter has failed. None of this should be happening in a well designed engine but we are told it is the cooling that causes this. Our mechanic said the carbon build up is extraordinary and to get rid of the car. I have 3 other friends who have 09/10 Acadias, and are all seeing similar issues (2 have coils fail). So its just a bad design. Shame, it was a pretty car and would have kept it for the long haul if it wasnt so poorly designed.
The vehicle would not shift out of 2nd gear going down the highway. The check engine light came on, and there are now four codes all for internal transmission issues. The car is 4 months past the 5-year warranty, but only 64000 miles. This is a huge safety issue. If this transmission fails while on an interstate highway, and it will not go over 20 mph, the results could be deadly. By researching this issue, I have found a considerable amount of complaints about 2007 GMC Acadias between 50,000 and 80,000 miles having transmission failures, but yet no recalls. This is an issue that GMC is well aware of, through their own admissions. Why is there such a delay waiting for a recall? Are all of the complaints going to have to wait for a fatality before GMC admits there needs to be corrective actions?
I own 2009 GMC Acadia SLT-1. This is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned so I have strived to take really good care of it. For the last few months, I have been experiencing an issue that seemingly cannot be resolved! When I am driving on the highway and I achieve the speed want to go and let off the gas and the vehicle would coast, it starts what I refer to as missing. It has not given off any codes and I have had it checked out by two mechanics. The problem is getting worse! Without a code and the lack of anything obvious, it cannot be resolved. The last time I took it in, the transmission fluid was low, which makes me wonder with all of the posts on transmissions going bad in Acadias, if it could be my transmission. I do not know what to do and am writing this in hopes someone has had similar issues and can share your experience and maybe your end result! HELP!!!
I bought my 2010 Acadia in 2013 when I found out I was having our third child. It has 34000 miles and I bought the GM 100000 extended warranty. I did not get the walk through bucket seats because I went for price. I got a great deal on a base model (1st worst decision). The seating is horrible and third row is basically impossible to get to when other kids are in the second row in car seats and boosters. And LOTS of crud and junk gets stuck in the seat sliders on the floor board.Anyways, my problems started with the steering rack. As someone stated above, a swooshing noise with turning the wheel. Luckily my warranty covered it after I went back to the dealer a few times. But the noise is still there! Now, a noise in the front end started early in the mornings as small accelerations such as in traffic. Dealer says we can check out or wait for it to escalate. Well in the last week it has escalated to the point I feel its unsafe to drive. It is going in the shop tomorrow!
I bought my 2009 Acadia SLT brand new in 2010 since it was on offer, since then I had problems two times with the fuel system and had to replace it all. And by all I mean fuel rails, fuel injectors, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel sensors and hoses, I get warning lights of low oil pressure from time to time with no apparent reason. I also had to replace the complete front suspension with the lower control arms and engine mounts. Now I am also getting a warning that I have a bad catalytic converter. Not to forget to mention that I had to replace the hydraulics for both the trunk and the hood, and what kind of car has the battery behind the passenger seat? Not to mention that the engine compartment is too congested and you cant even see the accessory belt in order to know if it needs replacing. My advice is never to buy an Acadia. I think total cost of repairs so far is about $10,000 and it only is driven 75,000 miles so far.
I have thought many times of trading this vehicle in because of all of the problems its had, but love the look of it! I should have traded because it might look good but it has been trouble literally since the very first day I brought it home and had to put it in the shop! My family is Chevy/GM all the way.... But that is fixing to change! The first night I brought it home, it had approx. 55,000 miles on it. When I came out the next morning, a huge puddle of anti-freeze was running out underneath it and the check engine light came on. It has had a couple of recalls, which I appreciated! After that, the suspension broke when they put the vehicle on the ramp for service.My StabiliTrak has had issues several different times! Around 90,000 miles, my transmission messed up, a local service repairman whom I trust stated that the teeth had ground off of the disc in the transmission and even showed it to me..... This was a very rare thing in vehicles abroad. He replaced that part, stating the transmission looked okay, and he had to get permission from GM to change out the whole transmission and GM didnt like to do that. It was under warranty through 104,000 miles. Now at 108,500 miles my transmission is messing up again. 5 months ago, I turned right into a parking lot from a very busy street with cars behind me. When I did, the car wouldnt turn and cut off! I put it in park and re-cranked it and it was okay. I still took it to the dealership since it was still under warranty, and they fixed something with the steering column and said it was low on steering fluid. Call it luck or whatever you wish, but I shouldnt even be alive to tell this story! There is an obvious need for recalls on the steering and transmission! GMC..... PLEASE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE WHO TAKE CARE OF YOU! WITHOUT US AND OUR PASSION FOR YOUR BRAND, YOU WILL NO LONGER BE A BRAND! That isnt a threat, its common sense.
I bought a 2008 Acadia. The car was pretty. I started having ac problems and transmission problems then I started researching and there is a lot of problems with the transmission and ac with the Acadia. I cannot afford to fix everything. I would never buy a Acadia ever again.
The Acadia Denali is the same as the Acadia with the molding taken off and the cute Denali put on it. What luxury vehicle doesnt have a console with departments in it? What kind of luxury vehicle doesnt have automatic passenger controls? It truly rides like a truck highway and streets. Save your money - at the least dont pay extra for the false luxury. If you must, buy the Buick. Or go elsewhere. Period... Tell everyone you know. I kicked my butt already.
Ive been having several issues with this vehicle. 2nd injector gone bad in less than 90k miles. It seems to be a known issue with vehicle but they refuse to take responsibility for it. Dealership deals with this same issue with multiple customers with no assistance or acknowledgement at all from manufacturer. Reached out to GM and received no assistance at all.
Ive had constant problems with this GMC Acadia. It is soooo sad that consumers can get screwed like this & GM dont have to own up to their products... This cost people homes, jobs, stress, etc. Im looking at all of the complaints and wondering how are they getting away with this. I purchased this truck used in 2011. I thought ok, just 4 years old... Worst experience of my life. The next year, the problems started. New power steering pump, Sun roof constant leaks, destroying the interior lining. Automatic windows going out. My head lights & tail lights constantly going out. Throttle body Valve??? Dont ask me but it cost approx $1300 to replace... And the worst, my TRANSMISSION! I was told the TCM fixed it and the car started back running... Then it wouldnt go forward again... Was told the transmission again... At the same time, all the sound went out in my car, no radio... no onstar... no blinkers, etc... This is horrible... We have to stand up... Im hearing the same complaints. I believe that GM Company is a leading company especially in customer service perspective and this led all authors of customer service books to take GM as their main example. After studying and preparing most of my academic assignment on this giant company, I became a loyal customer to this respective brand and this point was really the most important factor which led me to choose the Acadia car. I experienced this since February 2010 and my loyalty was enhanced more than before; however after less than three years and less than 50,000 mileage, I was disappointed as I faced problems with the noise in my steering wheel where it became a redundant issue; however, this was solved. But in November 2011, I faced another sound inside the car when I press the brake. Though it has been solved, it happened again after less than one year and currently, I face the same issue! The agent here in Bahrain advised me that they have to change the master cylinders and the boosters. In addition to this issue, the rear door pumps had no pressure to hold the rear door. I spoke with the agent and argued with them about this. They agreed to change the master cylinders with the booster at their cost if I bear the labor charge cost which exceeds BHD 80/- (USD212)! Today, I found out that these two issues are common with all Acadia models. My close friend (his car reg. # **) is also facing the same issues. I am filing this complaint to take this issue up with the agent to waive all the charges, as its unbelievable that such nice car produced by a leading company has these issues and the customer is bearing the cost of repairing them! Im looking for a service to keep me satisfied.
I own a 2013 GMC Acadia. The issue is this - upon initial start and driving within the first 600 ft there is transmission calibration noises which range from a light bumping noise to a major thud. The other day I was driving most more than 30 km and the transmission make a thud - sounded like I hit a boulder on the road. We immediately pulled the vehicle over to look for an obstruction on the road. There was nothing - not even a pothole.The GMC dealer where we have our vehicle service and was purchased from have not been able to come up with any diagnosis for this problem. They have acknowledged verbal that there is an issue - however the service report comes up clean. What a joke. We paid and are paying real money for this vehicle and it should run properly. Repairs need to be done and yet nothing has been to say Im disappointed is an understatement. It seems to me that the challenges are the fact that no one in North America can actually build a reliable vehicle that will run for longer than a mop head from China. Maybe we should start manufacturing there - at least then we could afford to replace a vehicle every 20 thousand kilometer.
My Acadias transmission went out on a trip to KC. About 4 hrs away from home. When it was put in Reverse it went in Drive & vice versa. Finally it went forward when put in Drive but RPMs stayed at 5,000, it wouldnt shift gears to go over 50 mph. I was on interstate. Top speed is 75 but people in KC drive A LOT faster. Im surprised my daughter & I got back to the hotel safe & sound. My insurance covered the tow to the closest shop. They would only pay $100 or less for the tow. I will have to drive the 4 hrs back to get it when its fixed. 8 hr round trip. Ill have to miss a full days wages or use my only day off for the trip. I couldnt be more upset. It was a Saturday when it broke down so naturally about every tranny shop was closed. I got a hold of 1 hardworking mechanic that was still at his shop to see if hed work on it. When I told him it was a 2008 GMC Acadia he said theyre known for bad transmission. I wish Id known that sooner. This is my only vehicle. I wasnt going to call someone to come that far to pick us up. My only option was to rent a car to get home. I have no idea how I will make it back to get the Acadia after its fixed & who knows how long itll be before its fixed. I cant afford a rental the entire time so Ill be without a car. How will I get to work to be able to pay for this? This just happened yesterday so I havent heard back from the mechanic yet. I will write another review about the exact problem & solution later. Im definitely giving GMC customer service a call tomorrow & will never purchase from GM again. Lots of people are having the same problem, I am with their Acadias. Ford here I come!!Updated on 09/23/2015: I was not able to find out what went wrong with my transmission. It was sent to my warranty company for them to determine the issue. They chose a rebuilt tranny to replace the first. The torch converter was bad. They sent the second rebuilt tranny. I was told the Acadia was fixed. I went to KC to pick it up 4 hrs away from home. It made it about 75 miles when the RPMs flew up to 5,500 & the engine lost power. I had to drive the other 3 hrs home with it in low & manually shift gears. Its been at another shop for a week now & I havent heard back from them. The company that supplied the rebuilt tranny will pay to have it fixed. The main issue is Im paying $350 a month for a car I havent been able to drive for over a month & the car I want to trade this pile of bolts for will be sold before I can get this thing fixed! I do not blame the mechanics or the rebuilt tranny company for all the trouble. I blame GM for a very poorly designed transmission!
