The 2026 Hyundai Kona is a subcompact crossover SUV designed to deliver a balance of affordability, efficiency, technology, and everyday practicality. It is one of the smallest SUVs in Hyundai’s lineup and competes with vehicles such as the Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trax, and Toyota Corolla Cross. The Kona is known for its modern design, compact size, and available turbocharged engine that provides stronger performance than many competitors in the segment.

Overview

The 2026 Kona continues the second-generation design introduced recently, featuring a larger body, improved interior space, and updated digital technology. It is built to appeal to urban drivers who want SUV versatility in a compact, easy-to-drive vehicle. The Kona seats five passengers and offers good cargo space for its class while maintaining maneuverability in city environments.

Hyundai offers several trim levels, each with different technology features, styling upgrades, and performance options.

Engine and Performance

The 2026 Kona offers two gasoline engine options.

Base engine specifications:

Engine: 2.0-liter inline-4.

Horsepower: 147 hp.

Torque: 132 lb-ft.

Transmission: Continuously Variable Transmission.

Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive standard with optional all-wheel drive.

This engine focuses on fuel efficiency and smooth daily driving rather than aggressive performance.

Higher trims offer a turbocharged engine:

Engine: 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4.

Horsepower: 190 hp.

Torque: 195 lb-ft.

Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmission.

Drivetrain: Front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.

The turbocharged engine provides noticeably stronger acceleration and a more engaging driving experience.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy varies depending on engine choice and drivetrain configuration.

Typical fuel economy estimates include:

2.0-liter engine with front-wheel drive: about 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

2.0-liter engine with all-wheel drive: about 27 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.

Turbocharged engine with front-wheel drive: about 26 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Turbocharged engine with all-wheel drive: about 25 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

These numbers place the Kona among the more efficient gasoline SUVs in the subcompact class.

Interior and Comfort

The 2026 Kona offers a modern and practical interior with improved space compared with earlier generations.

Key interior features include:

Seating for five passengers.

Cloth or available synthetic leather seating.

Heated front seats on higher trims.

Power-adjustable driver’s seat in premium trims.

Dual-zone automatic climate control on select models.

The updated design provides improved rear passenger space and greater cargo capacity.

Cargo space includes:

About 25.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats.

Up to about 63.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

This makes the Kona practical for groceries, luggage, or outdoor gear.

Technology and Infotainment

Hyundai equips the Kona with modern digital displays and connectivity features.

Key technology features include:

Large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Digital instrument cluster display.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Bluetooth connectivity.

Available premium audio system.

Higher trims also include features such as wireless smartphone charging, navigation, and advanced driver information displays.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2026 Kona includes Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite.

Common safety technologies include:

Forward collision-avoidance assist.

Lane-keeping assist.

Blind-spot monitoring.

Rear cross-traffic collision alert.

Driver attention warning.

Adaptive cruise control on higher trims.

These driver-assistance systems help improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

Dimensions and Size

Approximate exterior dimensions for the 2026 Kona include:

Length: about 4,350 mm.

Width: about 1,825 mm.

Height: about 1,610 mm.

Wheelbase: about 2,660 mm.

These compact dimensions make the vehicle easy to park and maneuver in crowded urban areas while still offering useful passenger space.

Trim Levels

The 2026 Kona lineup typically includes the following trims:

SE.

SEL Sport.

SEL Premium.

Limited.

Higher trims add features such as larger wheels, upgraded interior materials, heated seats, additional driver-assistance systems, and advanced infotainment technology.

Pricing

Estimated starting prices for the 2026 Hyundai Kona begin around:

Base models: approximately $26,950 to $27,000.

Mid-level trims: roughly $30,000 to $32,000.

Fully equipped trims: about $35,000 or higher depending on options.

Actual prices vary depending on trim level, optional equipment, and regional market differences.

Overall

The 2026 Hyundai Kona remains a strong contender in the subcompact SUV market. It offers a combination of stylish design, efficient engines, modern technology, and affordable pricing. Buyers can choose between a fuel-efficient base engine or a more powerful turbocharged option, while still enjoying a comfortable interior and practical cargo space.

I was recently involved in an accident whereby my car was hit so hard that my tire burst, all 4 doors terribly damaged and my right fender, front bumper split, my radiator bend BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY?? It does help Hyundai concentrate so much on having a car on the road that is economical but NOT SAFE.

I was in a no-fault accident February 25 2019. I had a small little crack on the driver side of the vehicle which triggered the airbag light to stay on in my vehicle reminder the airbags did not deploy. After waiting two months for the body collision to do the basic repairs my vehicle was sent to two Hyundai dealerships and neither dealership can figure out why the airbag light was still on. I called Hyundai corporate office. They put a hold on my vehicle for two weeks. They didn’t offer a loaner vehicle or a rental for the hassle and stress I been through and just told me to have the service center work on the vehicle. After being there for a month they did not reimburse me and I have a son with a disability and they did not make anything urgent or help my situation. The claim case was missed handled. My son been out of school for two months. Very disappointing!

I really loved driving my Hyundai Tiburon! Out of all of the cars on the lot, I liked it the best. I even recommend it to other people! It was a great car and made me like Hyundai as a car maker. I drove the car from Florida to Ohio and it ran beautifully the whole time! It was a small car and a standard transmission. It was great on gas and even though it was only a 4cyl. motor, it was very quick. However, I wish that the seat would have been more adjustable and that it would have gone up and down. I am a short person, so I had trouble seeing over the dashboard!

I leased a car for 3 years. According to the sales person, he told me that the service on the car would be included during the lease period but that wasn’t the case. It seems that he just said those things to make a sell since he was being very pushy from the start. The worst part is that he never disclaimed that by the end of the lease, I would be charged $500 plus $170 for some minor scratches that can occur during a 3 year period. When I returned the vehicle they basically force you to keep making business with them by leasing or buying a new car and that’s the only way they can forgive that $500 fee. When I called to claim, they told me that the contract is not with the dealer but with the company; even though it was signed at the dealer. They also don’t accommodate payment arrangements. Before leasing a car with companies like this, do some research and find what is convenient for you. Instead of dealing with a seller who would say anything just to get his commission and take advantage of you, if you don’t have experience in the subject.

Hyundai Genesis 2015 went dead on road only 1.5 years old. Had to get it towed to Napleton Hyundai Northlake. They had to replace computer. Then it happened again a week later. Then they had to replace the fuel pump module. Now the car vibrates when sitting still. The seats and the steering wheel constantly shaking. Napleton says it is because the engine is running and thats just the way the car is. Either Hyundai Genesis is a very bad car or Napleton Hyundai is totally incompetent, or possibly both. I would stay away from both! On top of that, I cant get rid of the car because they say the current value is less than the end of lease value which is still over a year away. They want me to pay 100% of the remaining payments to the end of lease if I trade it in and buy a new one. Worst dealer service I have ever had.

Hyundai Palisade vehicles (2020-21) have a defect with a windshield causing them to crack from minimal impact and sometimes no impact at all. There are many reports of this all over the web. Hyundai however is refusing any assistance to consumers and denying that there is any issue at all. My windshield cracked and had to be replaced when the car had just 500 and it didnt even get hit. It was a detail shop getting cleaned, etc.. Hyundai should step and start taking responsibility plus reimbursing owners who already needed to have their windshields replaced and also offer free replacements for OEM glass going forward for many reasons:1. Hyundai and Kia are related companies. Palisade and Telluride are related vehicles. Telluride has exactly same complaints regarding the windshield and Kia sent letters to all the owners saying this issue is being looked into and in the meantime offering free replacement and/or reimbursement if the windshield has to be replaced. Why isnt Hyundai doing the same?2. Almost every single complaint on the NHTSA website is about the windshield. There are over 85. This is not a coincidence! See: **3. I am sure you are also aware that there is a class action lawsuit about this same windshield issue. Again not a coincidence. There is a reason why there is a lawsuit.Hyundai should do the RIGHT thing just like KIA is doing and reimburse owners for windshield replacements especially when they are cracking WITHOUT even being hit by anything. That is a defect in your product!

Actually, Ive 2 problems with my Verna 2012 car (15,000k) only. The first one is related to the dinamo; it doesnt keep any charge if I left my car for only one day! The second is that sometime when I switch off the contact, it doesnt switch off the car and I should repeat this for 3 or 4 times! This is not the first time to complain to Hyundai. Ive a problem before after 5000k, and it is solved after visiting the maintenance center 3 times! This time is the same. HMA has tried to get a deposition fee of $450 from me the last 8 months without my knowledge. They have been quietly killing my credit with delinquency filings through my credit agency. No letters were sent. Yes, I know about the deposition fee, but it is waived if a customer buys a new lease. I bought two new leases! My local dealer explained it all to me. NO fee if you re lease a new car. I got two... Didnt matter to HMA. I fought with customer service and their response was that the new cars I received were purchased 4 months before the lease expired. Apparently in the small print, you only have a 60 day window before the lease ends to get that deposition fee waived. Ridiculous! This is not the way to treat a long time customer. I called my local dealer and they have been way more willing to help me with this, as it was their sales staff that that relayed all this information. Hopefully, with the help of my local dealer HMA will fix this issue and will also fix the damage done to my credit. Their customer service reps were very unhelpful and rude. After I had purchased these new leases, a problem arose where my VIN # had been mixed up with someone else at purchase. One day I walked into my garage where my Sonata was automatically started by their Bluelink system, garage door closed, garage full of fumes, almost killing my dog who was in there. HMA could not have cared any less of what had happened as I explained the situation. They blamed the local dealer, offered me a few Hyundai points (incredibly insulting), and went on their way. They actually stopped talking to me as I expressed that their points offering was insulting. I wanted to make sure this doesnt happen again to someone else, yet they would not return my calls. These experiences with HMA would actually be funny if it wasnt so sad and scary. Please stay far away from this company! Terrible and unethical business practices.

After purchasing my AWD Hyundai Tucson in October 2016, I have been notified that this specific model had a dual clutch transmission defect that results in delayed acceleration from stop. The recall did not solve the problem and all my complains regarding the transmission was denied by Hyundai dealers. Since that date any time I go to the dealer complaint about loud transmission vibration and sound and delay on acceleration etc. they simply reply sorry this is due to the discontinued DCT defect that is well known for this model as if I have to accept it and live with it. The real problem that I have discovered that Hyundai has known about this defect prior selling the car to me and still they sold it and I simply have to live with the defective transmission that will definitely crash in the very near future!!!

I took my 2009 Santa Fe to our local dealer for a leak in the factory-installed sunroof. The first time, they supposedly made adjustments to tighten the window down. The second time, they said the seal was bad and they had to order a new sunroof window. My question was why they didnt find this the first time. The third, they replaced the window. Now, this one leaks worse than the original. This has happened all in the last 3 weeks. I have no faith in the dealer that is doing the work. But since it is still in factory warranty, I am stuck. We have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle since we have purchased it. But we are stuck with this lemon for a little while longer.

Hyundai refused to do anything and have left me stranded making monthly payments. I will never purchase another Hyundai.Original Review: Hyundai is a horrible company. I purchased my 2012 Tucson as a second owner. I had the vehicle 1.5 years before the engine failed. I have been a customer of Hyundai for over 5 years, I recently had a bad oil leak on my IX20 which I had bought from new. They explained that the repair would be done under warranty and that a courtesy car would be provided. Unfortunately thats where the problems started. Hyundai courtesy car insurance only cover people between the age of 21 to 69 so it was suggested that I add the courtesy car to my insurance but when I contacted my insurance company that told me that they could not insure a car that is already insured. My car will take three days to repair. The suggestion given by my insurance company and the Hyundai dealer is that I hire a car to cover the 3 days. It seems Im being penalised for a Hyundai manufacturing failure.

I purchased my 3rd brand new Hyundai in 2005. I have always chose Hyundai models as I believed in your vow of Americas best warranty although I had always paid them off and traded them in around 60,000 miles. I did make a decision to hold onto my most recent Hyundai which is a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. I am a extremely anal when it comes to maintenance, to the point friends and family mock me. No one but the dealership has EVER been under the hood of any of my Hyundais. I have even taken it to them to have air put in the tires. I never missed a maintenance and am always at the dealership within the 3 months - 3,000 miles with checkbook in hand asking them to do whatever is necessary to maintain the warranty, value of the vehicle and to keep my car running. I just had the 2005 Tiburon in for scheduled service in April 2014. As always, this service department who had handled all my cars over the past 20 years said the car was in impeccable shape. Memorial day 2014 (a little over a month later), while driving I turned on the air. Within 5 minutes it started to jerk and sputter, smoke started to rise from under the hood and all my dashboard lights came on. I pulled over and called a tow. The next day I was in shock when the service manager called and said the engine had blew. I was not concerned with the cost as it was still 20,000 miles and 1 year under warranty. When I asked how this had happened, he said the car had a small leak in the radiator which caused it to overheat. I begged for answers on how this could happen. How I would have known there was a slow leak and if there was light that should have warned me and how the engine could have blown from overheating. Nothing Greg from Hyundai City said made sense to me on how I could have done anything different to prevent this. All he could say was because I had driven the car for an extended period of time, while overheating it would not be covered under the warranty and the cost would be about $3,000. There was literally minutes between realizing something was wrong and when the car died on the side of the road. There was not a single sign before this moment that would have led me to know something was wrong. He also went on to explain because the radiator wasnt covered and this is what ultimately caused the damage, they could not possibly cover the cost. I have no words. I have sent countless customers to this dealership as well as given Hyundai 60,000 plus dollars worth of business. They know how meticulous I am about service and have all my records. The car had 80,000 miles on it and just a month earlier was told the car was in perfect condition and now it sits with a blown engine without any fault of my own. I could not have done anything more to maintain the car or meet the warranty criteria. I did file a case with Hyundai but based on what Greg has told them I received an email stating that they will not honor the warranty. I am heartbroken and have no idea why the company I was so faithful to would treat me, let alone any customer this way. I have no words. I had no doubt that Hyundai would do the right thing but I am growing less and less faithful. I have no idea how this happened to my car and the company who can make this right refuses to. I know losing one customer is not a big deal to you but at the end of the day your integrity is all you have whether it be with one person or millions. It is all the same.

I leased a Genesis 20 months ago. It took four months to get the lease payment correct even with dealer involvement. Then 20 months later, I get a notification that my payment is late (of which it was not and verified in my bank account) and that I owe $100 more than the payment I made on time? When I call Hyundai Finance, they tell me that is was because in June (its now Dec) my sales tax went up. They never said a word or sent anything to us in mail, email, call... nothing. We have been making the original payment all along without a problem. Six month later you send me a past due amount, tell me my tax went up over 5% six month ago and that I have been making the wrong payment? How is this possible. Finally, I ask to tell me the specifics of what tax and they have no idea and have the city I live in wrong - even though its the same as when I purchased the car? They tell me they dont have to notify me and maybe I will get a call back in three business days from a tax person if not call back.

I loved my Hyundai Sonata for the first couple of years. Had a couple of minor issues, but nothing major. After that, things started to go wrong - full throttle pump had to be replaced ($1000) dollars. Last week I hit 100,000 miles on my car. Then the next day the check engine light went on. Took it to the mechanic and they said it was something with the oil pump. They cleaned it, did an oil change, light went off. Next day, light came back on. Took it back, they replaced the part and when they took it for a test drive, the engine began seizing up. They told me it needed a new engine. Had it towed to dealership. They also said it needed a new engine. They told me that since it was over warranty, there would be no coverage. They informed me that the goodwill warranty determination would have to come from Hyundai manufacturing. Hyundai manufacturing told me it was determined by the dealership. I called the dealership again and they sent me back to Hyundai manufacturing.

I took my 2011 Hyundai Sonata into the Hyundai dealer service center with a problem on my auxiliary plug. I used a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable to connect my iPod to the car. After a couple of months, the cable had bad connection. Due to that problem, I bought a new auxiliary cable but the cable wasnt the problem. The problem was the 3.5 mm jack that is on the car. I brought my car to the dealer but they said they couldnt do anything since I didnt use OEM Hyundai auxiliary cable even though they knew the problem. So I bought the OEM cable, but after few months it didnt work well. So I brought my car to the dealer and one of the staff brought three other staffs to check if the jack or the cable was defected; they all said there was no problem. Also, it is very obvious that their staff would say there is no problem. I am highly unsatisfied from this experience. I cannot enjoy my music in my brand new Hyundai Sonata. I should have my audio jack replaced with a new part and refund on the cable.

My daughter is a college student in the area away from home. When purchasing her vehicle I added all the Hyundai Warranties offered to me in order to secure her safety at all times. Her vehicle was taken in April 2016 for repairs and replacement of a few items. She left there with not 1 item corrected. I called several times and was given several excuses. One weekend in May 2016 I drove 5 hours to address the issue in person. I was told by Curvin (Advisor) and Mike (Manager) that the issue would be resolved. Well June rolled around no action. I called the GM of this location to assist in the matter. Well he never returned my call. The only thing he did was send my message back to the service managerAfter contacting the warranty department myself I learned that Hyundai never requested the approval until June 30, 2016. Well here we are in July 2016. Still waiting on the items to be ordered. This will be my last Hyundai and I would not recommend anyone take their vehicle here. Since they were not making extra money off of me, my daughter service was not a priority at all. In 37 years this is the worst experience I have ever had...

2006 Hyundai Sonata Airbag System Failures. Very well maintained (for life of vehicle) by top notch local dealer + no accident history - reports Driver Side seat belt buckle err code, Airbag light on/airbag system not activated. Dealer attempted OC3 test-passenger seat voluntary recall issue - could not complete test-buckle error. Replaced buckle assy: same code + light. Dash opened, console removed, driver seat removed: airbag system harness inspection, reset connections - new code appears: drivers belt retractor assy. Replaced belt retractor assy. NO CODE! AND airbag system still not working/airbag light indicator on. Dealer advised this expensive problem is WELL-KNOWN to 06, 07 Sonata owners: sole viable solution=replace air bag system wiring harness. Ordered part # on harness - wrong harness delivered (connectors in wrong location on harness/dont meet up with car connectors. Ordered again, same result (dealership noted - these harnesses arrive with bag torn open (not first mechanic to order it for same problem and outcome). Local Hyundai Territory Engineer (troubleshooter for large problems) asked to visit for discussions - right part #/wrong part. Solution = Ive dealt with this 3x recently and in this area - order this part #. Guess what, new part is $750/double old part cost. New harness reaches into back seat area as well and causes double the labor costs >$1,000. $1K already invested in parts and labor - when faced with another $2K in harness parts & labor & literally they will provide no guarantee this will solve it short term let alone long term.Contacted Hyundai USA for financial assistance - denied due to out of warranty + 2nd owner/not original (how convenient for them). The dealership has been great but Hyundai refuses to acknowledge the issue. We opened a case with Hyundai but their case manager said there is no design flaws so there is nothing they can do. I just want a brand new $50K vehicle to act like a $50K vehicle. DO NOT BUY A PALISADE!!!

Hyundai is a good vehicle, great value for the price. I am not a car enthusiast, just want basic functions, ease of use and some comfort. Reliability is number one. I need a vehicle that is easy to get in and out of, perfect for my height, 5ft 7in. Must have ample usable storage, as I am a DIY. Average mpg 34. Freeway average 38 to 40 mpg driving conservatively. I choose Hyundai because I felt that I was getting an okay deal at the local Hyundai dealer, and I wanted to pay cash, limited my choices. Compared to Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Kia, Ford, Hyundai was the best deal for me. However, after three years of ownership, car interior dash and door, plastic rattling everywhere. Irritating, as I dont us radio often, thus noises all the time. Upholstery is itchy and irritating on bare legs.

Worst vehicle ever!!! The engine seized at 90,000 miles without warning. Now at 92,000 miles the steering column is shot. My mechanic found that the steering coupling among other components were basically shredded. He replaced the column and brought it to Hyundai of Metairie to have the electronic steering reprogrammed. The Hyundai service dept. will not do it. They want to replace the column again. They say the car isnt drivable. It was driven to them.

After our conversation, she said that I would call at a later date to get a time for the service, and had to come in so she could get the info. The next few days I was leaving for Conroe, TX since I have been here for two weeks. I called, Wiesner auto group, I also had the car serviced at Wiesner auto, in Conroe TX. and went on a recorder and left a message, that I wanted to get a appointment to have the car serviced. I have still waiting for a call back, I purchased this car, from a very good friend that owns the dealership in Temecula CA. thinking that this was a good buy. I am now having second thoughts, about service? Also owning a Hyundai?

After having a HORRIBLE experience with the Hyundai of North Charleston Dealership in North Charleston, SC (See my review there also) my car was fixed after 3 WEEKS and I was left without having any vehicle for work. I am in sales and work in the field where an automobile is a NECESSITY! Thats why I bought NEW for dependability! My car was still under warranty and only needed a battery & starter (this took 3 weeks). I only had 39k miles.Hyundai customer care REFUSED to pay for a rental car for me and the dealership said NO loaners were available. I was only able to rent a car for 2 days and submitted paperwork for reimbursement and was only offered $150 for the rental when I had to pay almost $300 for the rental for 2 days on an economy size car! Hyundai would not even offer the FULL amount for my 2 DAY RENTAL! Wow! I was told that if I rented a car...Hyundai would reimburse me and turns out this was another MAJOR Letdown from this whole Hyundai ordeal! Its a very good thing (only 1 out of this whole story) that I was not able to rent a car for the 3 weeks...because I would have not gotten ALL my $$ back which would have been a DOUBLE loss of money $$ for me being out of work for 3 weeks AND not having received a FULL Rental car reimbursement! I totally feel disrespected and was treated like my business was of VERY LITTLE VALUE to them. This was my 2nd Hyundai purchase...but after this ordeal...I am DONE with Hyundai...the corporate office seems to be WORST than this dealership! Nobody seems to care in this company as a whole except SELLING you their CAR! :-( RUUNNN!!!! Very Disgruntled Loyal Hyundai Customer,Sybil

Due to rude and incompetent people that handle customer service I will never buy a Hyundai again. I like the product but dealing with the people at Hyundai Motor Finance USA is so unpleasant that I would rather buy any other car. The staff doesnt listen to a word you say, they just repeat their demands over and over until you get so frustrated you have to hang up and compose yourself. Ask for a supervisor then you wait on hold for a long period and then just get the same treatment from the supervisors. Whatever happen to customer service? These people are horrible to deal with. If you want a Hyundai DO NOT USE HMFUSA unless you want to deal with condescending, obnoxious, rude and ignorant people!

I had my 2007 Hyundai in to my local mechanic for an oil change and they told me I needed a battery. I decided to have my husband change it in order to save some money. I turned out that the battery was okay but the terminal was not closing all the way. We went to several auto parts stores but none had the correct part. We contacted our local Hyundai dealer and they said that part was not stocked or sold. We would have to buy a wiring harness that connected the battery terminal to the battery post and then to the starter at a cost of $380. I said that was absurd and would not buy it. Luckily, my husband is handy and was able to fit a terminal with some sort of connection to the wiring harness. Because my husband had to put a non-Hyundai part on there is no cover on the positive battery terminal, I dont know if this could be dangerous or not; if you are expecting the protection of the cover, its not there.

The 2017 Hyundai Tucson drives nice, is roomy, and is much better gas mileage than our previous minivan. However, I really miss sliding doors, which we were used to on our other vehicles. I wish the Tucson had a power trunk and Im not happy with the radio as it doesnt show song titles like our previous model did. Nevertheless, it was our first time leasing so it made the vehicle quite affordable. The Tucson had a better price point than comparable models. It is also physically very attractive and is a beautiful color turquoise. It has a very modern looking interior and exterior as well.

Now Im getting phone calls, late fees and everything else that has nothing to do with fixing the issue. Ive requested the payment application since May through several representatives and supervisors and have yet to receive it. I refuse to allow them to apply money to principal for their vehicle Hyundai they appraise very low. The vehicle is nice, overpriced but efficient, but the service is the worst Ive ever dealt with and if I find a way to trade the car and not give them another dollar; its my goal before my lease is up.

I purchased my 2005 Hyundai Tuscon new from the Kolar Hyundai dealership based primarily on the advertised warranty coverage of 10 years and 100,000 miles bumper-to-bumper as they advertised it (it’s still under a warranty plus program which I did have to pay for). Since then my Tuscon is in need of a bearing replacement on the left rear tire (it has seized). When I called the dealership, I was told they would not tow the vehicle or repair it without me covering all the costs. My warranty is currently at no cost to me for repairs or towing. I was told to call the Hyundai warranty number. The lady I spoke to informed me that if it was an American-made vehicle, it would be covered since bumper-to-bumper means that. But since it is a Hyundai and the rear wheels are not drive wheels, it is not covered after 60,000 miles. I asked her again why Hyundai is not honoring their advertised bumper-to-bumper warranty. Again, I was told it is because Hyundai is not an American-made vehicle (assuming she meant a vehicle made by Ford or other American vehicle corporations). I am now forced to incur all costs for repairs since Hyundais trickery (erroneous advertising) has forced me to, especially in a tough economy.

Shiny plastic cover over interior driver door latch (to open) began peeling off. Before the warranty on this item expired at 60K miles, advised that the dealership had to order another cover. Assuming it is a peel off, stick on type of application. No mention of buying a completely new door latch just because plastic surface was peeling off. In the meantime, a fog lamp went out; one of the door locks stopped working. Dealer advised that none is covered by warranty. Cost of replacing the door latch $150 b/c the entire assembly is apparently required. Cannot purchase the stick on plastic cover. One light bulb for fog light, $75. Replaced one actuator for one door lock mechanism, $460. Service manager could not explain why these outrageous prices for simple repairs were required. Hyundai should allow their dealers to make profit on service, but this type of pricing is outrageous and abusive. I said no, and plan on raising hell in every forum I can.

I do not understand, and I will try to summarize my experience so as to save everyone the grief of reading an extensive unpleasant experience. In short, I have leased with Hyundai since I was 20 years old. I am 24 now, and this car (so am on my second lease now) is one of the biggest regret of my young adult life. For my previous leased vehicle, I was hit with a bill of nearly 5,000 dollar, which a very big chunk of that money did not apply to my actual balance since I continued to lease with them. After the proper deductions, my bill went down to about 3,600. That is fine, except that each time I called to have a number confirmed, I received a different quote. I once called literally sobbing because I had no idea what to do, in which I was “helped” by a woman that talked over me the whole time, was terrible at explaining anything to me, and told me I could “get a second job” to try to pay for my balance. Okay. I paid the money and received a voicemail (not very clear to make out what it said) saying something about my balance. I called back to try to get back to that person, had their extension and everything to confirm that they received my payment, and literally spent 20 mins on the phone with someone, intermittently getting put on hold, only to be told they could not find the extension or the balance I was speaking of. I finally have let it go and assumed that they received my payment. This is the gist of that experience. Today, I called because I am having trouble with the radio playing over the music I am streaming, so I called to get help. The lady on the phone said “we don’t help with that, I can give a number of you have anything to write down” and I said that I was driving, asked if I could get forwarded to the proper place. So she forwarded my call, and a lady answered and I could not hear or understand her at all. Finally, she spoke closer and I could hear her louder but still not well. I explained my problem, she said “yeah we don’t help with that” so I told her I was forwarded and didn’t know what to do. She literally said “thank you have a nice day” and hung up. HUNG UP. I was mid sentence and baffled and honestly, I am starting to figure things out on my own whenever I have a problem with my Hyundai vehicle, because customer service has been so incredibly unhelpful, rude, and appalling to interact with, honestly. It’s so shameful, and I am not sure if this is normal? Do other vehicle companies do this to their customers? I am planning to purchase my current vehicle so I will be with Hyundai for a long time, which sincerely fills me with dread and I am starting to feel resentful. This has been a terrible experience since the start, and I don’t call anymore to spare myself the stress of interacting with these people. I don’t even have the words. Just absolutely terrible.

I bought a Hyundai Elantra in 2007 with a three year warranty. Within the first two weeks, the indicator switch had to be replaced. This happened again over a period of a year and now that the warranty has expired, the indicator only works manually.Approximately 8 months after purchasing the vehicle, we heard a grinding rear noise, especially when reversing. It was very noticeable. I am an Estate Agent and it was embarrassing. The local mechanics examined the car and after saying that they knew exactly what they were doing, replaced the rear disk pads and callipurs, etc. with the approval of head office. A week later, the noise was back. I took it to the local supplier but they could not find the fault. My husband kept on saying that they should look at the release bearing and they ignored it. The car was eventually taken to Johannesburg, and a week later, I was informed that it was the release bearing. Remember, this was over a period of a year. They replaced the release bearing just before the warranty expired. All was fine for a few months and then we heard a noise in the engine. I took it in and was told that the valve lifters had to be replaced at a cost of $4,200.00. I phoned head office but they replied that it was out of warranty and not their problem anymore. The day we collected the car, we noticed that the noise had not disappeared. Fortunately, our car was at the wash bay when the workshop exploded (not so sure it was fortunate). The mechanic who released the car to us admitted that there was a noise, but seeing that they had no equipment, nothing could be done about it at that stage. When they arranged for an alternative workshop and the proper equipment, I took the car in. To my utter amazement, they phoned me a day later to tell me that the oil pump, timing chain, and tensioner had to be replaced at a cost of $10,000. Fix one thing and another one appears. What guarantee do I have that this will be the end of my woes and that the problem has been diagnosed properly? I spoke to the Manager, Ben, and told him that I wanted a second opinion and that I would take the car to Bloemfontein. He agreed with me and told me that a car with 70,000 km on the clock should not have all these problems and that I should take it further. I was really excited when I received my brand new car but now, I feel like setting it alight. My husband is so frustrated that he just wants to get rid of the car. We listened to an engine of a similar Elantra - what a difference. My brother in law had an Elantra which clocked 600,000 km and it hardly ever had any problems and that is one of the reasons why we bought one.Let me just say that the local supplier and his staff had always been helpful and friendly, but they can only help to a point and after that they have to abide by Imperials Rules. I will not stop until something is done about it.I appeal to you. Please see what you can do for me.

I experienced the rear window molding coming off of my 2005 Hyundai Sonata
I experienced the rear window molding coming off of my 2005 Hyundai Sonata about 2 years ago. We took the car to the dealership and were told the cost would be $400 per window to install new molding. This is the flimsy silver molding set at the top of the windows. Forget it. I was not about to pay that amount of money for the install. It has been sometime and my husband and myself have noticed that all 2005 Sonatas we come across in our geographical area have the rear window molding missing. I phoned Hyundai Consumer Affairs today to see what stance Hyundai would take on this issue. Sorry, your car is no longer under warranty. Hey, guess what, according to the Hyundai dealership, Earnhardt, it wasnt covered under the warranty anyways. It was cosmetic.Like some of you, I have owned several Hyundais and have recommended people to purchase the vehicle. If Hyundai will not take ownership of the poor workmanship on this year/make for this issue, I will turn on a dime. Not only will I never buy a Hyundai again, I will make sure everyone I know does not either. Hyundai has come a long way since my first Elantra in 1991 and I would hate to see them fall on their faces due to new glue, new molding, bad line employee or what have you that caused this overwhelming mistake. Please, Hyundai, own up.

My car only got 7,000 KM. The trouble with my Elantra, my battery goes dead and have been boosted twice and another time it went completely dead. Had it towed to the nearest dealer. This is a new Hyundai Elantra Limited when it had less than 6,000 KM it started but I had a 2012 which I had the same problems, so I traded for another one. I was told my 2012 had a ground issue. Now I know that I been lied to. Going to my dealer he tell me that the alternator is a low amperage alternator to save weight, and I should consider getting a solar panel and plug it in my cigarette lighter to charge my car. Now I drive some days around 20 KM which should be plenty to charge the battery, and I hardly use any electronics, like listen to the news 20 minutes. Now I dont trust this car because I dont know when Im going to be stranded. Now my Elantra got 7,000 KM and I dont dare to play the radio even to listen to the news, should I get a portable radio with batteries and a solar panel. By the way, once every two weeks I go on a 200Km ride. People are telling me Im being lied to. I have since notified Hyundai head office in Ontario, the phone # is in one of the manuals that I got with the car. Its been two months and no reply yet. They got my email address. Wont even send me an email, so I call again today.October/24/2014, I purchase this car I believe April/9/2014. This car is like you say new, I purchase an extended warranty which I told them I had purchase one from GM and it was worthless. $2400 and they told me that they werent GM, that you could trust Hyundai and they stick to their warranty. It was about a little bit over $1600. My, I dont know what to believe. Am I told lies? We will soon find out and Im about ready to go throughout my iPad just what the problems are about my warranty. I purchased my 2015 Sonata in January of 2016. After 3 days of ownership I noticed the panoramic roof was rattling, I returned to the dealership and the sales person said the car was just having some growing pains (this is the 3rd car I have owned with a pano roof - 05 Scion Tc and 14 Sonata Limited). I took him for his word and took a short road trip and the rattle only got worse. At 1822 miles I returned to the dealership and complained about the roof, and I was rewarded with the services manager telling me the 15s have been having issues with their pano roofs. They lubed everything up and told me they would call me when they had a fix. At 3998 (3/17/16) miles I returned to the dealership with the issue growing worse, once again Hyundai lubed the seals and said it was fixed. At this point I had enough and contacted Hyundais customer hotline and filed a complaint, and Hyundai didnt bother to respond. Shortly after my roof sustained some damage from debris and the dealership refused to work on it. They even joked around about maybe once the insurance company fixed my roof the rattle would go away. Once again I contacted customer care and filed a complaint warning of a lemon law violation. My case was passed on and I called back every single day for almost a month until I had someone return my call. Hyundai agreed to replace my entire roof under warranty, this was done in 8/8/16 at 10161 miles. Hyundai agreed to place their best warranty on the car at no cost to me and assured me the roof was fixed. A few weeks later the rattle slowly started to come back, it slowly got worse and the dealership in several undocumented occasions lubed up the seals. Once again I called customer care and spoke with their regional person who was helping me and raised my concerns. He agreed to send a engineer out to check my roof and if he determined the rattle was there Hyundai was going to buy back my car. On 3/6/17 I dropped my car off with an ever present rattle and picked it back up on 3/7/17 only to be informed that the rattle was not found by their engineer. On 3/8 Hyundai denied my claim for a buy back stating the roof was working as it is designed to do. Now I have to file a BBB complaint to get this issue resolved.

I would give this company 0 stars if possible. My 2016 Sante Fe motor messed up while on a trip out of town. It was covered under warranty. Left car in Arkansas to have it repaired. Was told by consumer affairs the dealership would provide a rental or I could rent and be reimbursed up to $25 a day. We got the only rental available in this small town which was $100/day. I was not contacted by this company for over 3 weeks, stating they have not yet assigned a case manager. When I finally got one, he was no help either. Told them I can’t afford to keep renting. He pretty much had me do all the work!Contact dealerships asking for loaner, which they say they don’t have. They really need to change their policies. Asked them to tow it to my local dealership thinking they could repair it more quickly. Of course, they left that up to dealership too, which refused. So now 10 wks later, car still not fixed and over $5k in rental costs. They need to take responsibility for these dealerships that represent the Hyundai brand! The only explanation they give is we have no control over the dealerships. I actually love my car, but this company in general needs to improve on service. I won’t ever purchase another Hyundai based on this experience.

My husband and I bought a 2015 Hyundai sonata and back in June, I locked my keys in the car and called their roadside assistance and a man came out to get into the car. Well he did alright, causing over $1600.00 and I got a big run around concerning it. He also damaged my sisters 2015 Hyundai sonata as well causing over $1200.00. When she contacted Hyundai about it, they told her to contact the private companys insurance about it. She did and was told too bad. At the time of service, no one knew the guy seemed to be intoxicated, informing my sister and myself they called him away from a poker game. Well, they sent me a check for a little over $1300.00. As to date, my sister never received a dime. As for Hatfield Hyundai or any other Hyundai for that matter, we are done. This was not our first Hyundai (brand new) but our 3rd on and I might add the night we walked in and bought this new we also sold two more for them that night. My sister and her daughter bought one too. I will not because Im still having issues when I apply the brake or just to accelerate. I feel a weird shimmy and took it back in, they say thats normal. Well if it is, how come I never felt that on the other brand new ones we bought? I took the Sonata for a seat belt recall last Friday and had the worst service ever. Now receiving e-mail from service manager because he covered a tub of paint on bumper and hood, and the side step panel is coming loose. So he emails me concerning my ratings on a survey, telling me how bad my ratings hurt him. Really? Now he says hes paying for both services when the car is still under warranty. Hyundai is a multi-billion dollar corporation, and they cannot reimburse me for the ~$750 worth of incurred expenses from a warranty claim they did for a $35,000 car? This is insane, I will never buy from Hyundai again, and I cannot believe they are still a company with this sub-par customer service. I then called Hyundai North America and filed a complaint and requested to have this work covered under the warranty since it happened from no fault of my own. It has now been two weeks and a Hyundai North America regional manager has failed to reach out to me and contact me in regards to this. I call and email and still have no answers as to what is going on with my car. I have just received a phone call from the dealership that they received an email and that Hyundai will not cover the engine damage because they still find it happened due to lack of maintenance. Nobody from Hyundai North America has reached out to me to discuss these findings. This is the second Hyundai I purchased because I was sold on Americas Best Warranty. This could not be less accurate. The customer service has been below par and the fact that they will not stand behind the warranty and fix what is broken is worse. I will never purchase a Hyundai vehicle again and I ask you to take my experience into consideration before you do. I understand that there is no guarantee that nothing will last forever and I accept that, I can deal with that. The customer service from Hyundai is what is completely dissatisfying and unacceptable.

I had good credit and went to buy a Hyundai Elantra because I was in need of a good car, but when I applied for the credit, the guy helping me took advantage of my need. First he came to me with a 10% interest. When I agreed, he went back to his boss. Few minutes later, he came back telling me that my interest was little higher to 12%. I really needed the car so I agreed, but he went back. To make it short, I ended up paying 16% because I told him I would not pay more. I think they ripped me off because of my need and lack of experience dealing with this kind of people who take advantage of you. So if you need a car, dont go with Hyundai or at least dont use their credit and go with somebody with experience.

Veloster is the worst car I have owned. The car is only two years old and I have had a list of problems with the car. The water pump was replaced at 3000 miles. I have had problems with the sunroof since day one, with car as well. I have also had the fuel pump, fuel rail, catalytic converter, front hub and axle replaced as well. Now today my navigation & radio went on the car. I have made complaints to corporate Hyundai and left numerous calls with no callback. Not only do they make a poor car, their customer service is just as bad.

I was recently in an accident with my 2011 Hyundai Elantra. I had a medical problem and went through a field, hitting a tree. My airbags did not deploy! Luckily I was not hurt worse, bruising and very sore. I am really afraid that something could happen and it could be deadly the next time. I have never had a recall on anything with my car! I feel this should be looked into as I have read other complaints that airbags failed to deploy!

I just bought a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The steering wheel locks (and clamps down electronically where you have to be strong to turn wheel to turn key) and I cant start the car. I need another person to turn the steering wheel because it locks so hard. I have been stranded twice where I needed help. Hyundai wont stand behind fixing it. They say it is the way it is designed. Something should be done about it. I had it in service a few times. I have a car that will not run. And when it does, it has the roughest ride of any car I ever had, especially on the freeways. I am 87 years old and between the rough ride and now this starting problem, Im very upset that I have to fight to get my money back. This should be a recall item. What do we do? Doesnt implied warranty state that I will get a car that I can start and that I wouldnt be stranded in 105 deg. heat like I did? It is a serious health and safety Issue.

2014 Hyundai Tucson - We purchased this vehicle November 2017. Less than 8 months later, on July 8th, 2018, our vehicles engine caught on fire while driving on the interstate. There was NO warning sign prior to this. maintenance was kept up with as scheduled. Hyundai Tuscons are DANGEROUS. Please do not purchase a Hyundai vehicle. They are not recalling vehicles as they should be, and someone is going to end up dying over their engine problems.

Mon, 10-14-19 hybrid system failure. Roadside assistance arranged for vehicle hauled to nearest dealership...one where we purchased it 11 mo prior in Montgomery AL, the dealership is 45 min drive from our house...Hard to reach ppl via ph for info re our car--during one call, informed us only 2 certified hybrid techs, both unfortunately had fam emergencies this week, had to leave early-- one day told us the electric water pump being replaced, another day told didnt need one. On Fri 10-11-19 the service advisor called to say it was ready, that the code for water pump was old, they cleared as per techline instructions then a driver (never found out who drove it the 53 mi since i was told the name would be on receipt but it wasnt...it was not a service tech or advisor, just a driver) Did not feel comfortable picking it up since nothing was fixed & expressed such to the advisor but was assured it was ok. Gut saying this not sound right, called Hyundai customer service and explained situation. Was told the info being sent to a case mgr who would be in touch in a couple of business days. Well, on Mon 10-14-19 the hybrid system failed. This time on a busy highway in morning traffic, thankfully able to make it off road and into business parking lot despite losing power. This time because of the location where it broke down, roadside assistance (who finally answered call after 33 min on hold) ordered it sent it to another dealership, this one in Bham AL. Because the case mgr had not made contact yet, called customer service again and rep confirmed that was right, our car had to go to Bham because according to present location thats nearest dealership, if not we would be responsible for paying. While waiting over an hour for the tow vehicle, called ahead to the dealerships service dept hoping to arrange for a loaner vehicle since this location is pretty far from my home. Customer service said couldnt do it for me, had to wait for case mgr- who was scheduled to call me the next day between 1 and 3pm...how does that help me now? (I did not get loaner while mine was in shop 5 days the week before.) Man at dealership said that they couldnt guarantee would have a car available. Floored to hear that, so next called dealership in Montgomery and explained what going on. After all, I was just there on Friday. They arranged to send someone to drive me down there for a loaner. I am grateful they agreed to give me a car and young woman who came for us was sweet, but I was shocked when she got a call from the service dept telling her to hand her cell phone to the tow driver...he confirmed my suspicion that they told him to take car down there, not Bham as roadside had ordered. I made it clear that I was not able to pay for it to go anywhere else, that 2 different persons from Hyundai said it had to go to Bham. He agreed to do as originally instructed. 2 1/2 hrs after placed call to roadside, car headed to dealership in Bham, we on way to Montgomery for loaner. (Driver was accommodating and stopped at Wendys as we requested to grab lunch.) Sonata hybrid system failed at 9:25 a.m., we finally made it back home at 2pm. Case mgr called Mon at 4:30p.m. She expressed that she was glad vehicle went to current location instead of former. Said she has better working relationship with this one. At this point were hopeful that it was all for the best...boy was that wrong! Tuesday 10-15-19 just past noon the advisor called to say scanned for codes, got same one as previous service dept but here they consulted techline and concluded the low voltage was due to a light being left on in the car, so after driving 18 mi with no issues they felt could be picked up by us. Absolutely floored at that explanation--so different from what we got from other dealership-- expressed felt even more uncomfortable driving off again without any repair done, esp after what happened the last time. It has already experienced the hybrid system failure 3x while were driving down the road at this point. Same code, totally different answers. Was told would check on it again first thing next morning and see how it does. At lunchtime Wed 10-16-19 advisor calls back to say car seems fine but he needs more info, cant find service record from Montgomery in the system. Sounds strange but we are nervous about this dangerous problem and want to get to the root cause. Not want get caught stranded on road again, so we volunteer to send copy of our invoice via email. Advisor calls back just a short time later to say he consulted with advisor in Montgomery AND the case mgr who agree electric water pump needs to be replaced. (Wow, were amazed he was able to get them both on phone in that short amount of time. But then again he works there... As a customer, calling and getting straight thru to someone is very rare. Usually have to leave message and sometimes takes days to get call back.) He says will order new pump, it wont come in until mid afternoon following day and we will need to be worked in to the schedule. So dont expect it to be ready until Mon. at earliest. Wanting to be certain this is the root of the problem, asked if that was what techline had now told him to do in order to fix it or did he just go by what other advisor said? (The first advisor had told us that if car had ended up back there again, they wouldve put one on...so, they were ok letting us drive a car that they mustve known had a good chance of shutting off on us going down the road again, then they would fix it?? So, what was that explanation about it being an old code??) Well, he replied he did not personally talk to techline. Makes us wonder why he would go off the advice from a dealership he had expressed little respect for previously? And why the case mgr would, either, especially seeing that she expressed same feelings toward them?? But he said thats the plan and to make us feel more comfortable that 3 ppl would test drive it before give back to us: him (advisor),a technician and the service mgr, even said one of them could drive it home so could spend more time with the vehicle. Hmm.. Well, later that afternoon the case manager called confirming this dealership will replace elect water pump and said Montgomery service mgr apologized for not doing so. She confirmed the part was being ordered today. She said should not expect car completed until possibly midweek...which we were fine with that time frame, even though longer than advisor had said would take, if it was going to be what needed to fix the problem. Now is where things took a strange turn. Not expecting part in at Bham dealership until Thursday afternoon 10-17-19, ironically got call from Montgomery service dept stating the car is ready. Wait, what???? Totally confused, asked if our vehicle was back in Montgomery?? No, it was not. Next, asked why is someone in Montogomery calling to tell us instead of the staff in Bham?? Well, thats still up in air... as to who contacted whom first or why they needed to in first place...your guess is as good as any. Each accused other and at this point our confidence level in either is gone. It was a very unprofessional event to be caught in the middle of. I called two times trying to reach service manager for Bham, first time got his vm, left message but no reply. After waiting a while, 2nd time called someone else answered the phone when asked operator for him. That individual put the advisor on line. It is very odd that Bham service advisor said Montgomery shouldnt have called me yet because its NOT ready. This despite the fact that Montgomery sent a screenshot, via text message, of an email Bham service mgr sent telling Montgomery the vehicle is ready. Wow, just wow...so I address this with the advisor, who explains that even though the service manager signed off on it, he-the advisor- is not done yet. This is totally confusing, so immediately called case manager, but she not answer, left her a message. Next day, Friday 10- 18-19 after advisor calls stating now car looks to be sound, we express that events of the previous day made us uncomfortable and not ready to get it, want to wait until discuss with case mgr. He says take your time. Wanting to verify what exactly was done , by whom and when, we try to contact case mgr again , but again have to leave message. Trying to call a different # for assistance was no help, was told being transferred and after 8 min on hold was disconnected. Over the weekend we received several emails inviting us to rate our experiences with the dealerships and case manager. So we did give ratings of dealerships, but replied to email about case manager that would rate her when shes finished with our case. (Hoped that would get a call returned sooner...so much for that) Did not hear back from her until Wed a.m. 10-23-19. So disappointed that the info she shared contradicted that from previous conversations. We made request for car to be returned to us, not feel safe driving if cant keep stories straight as to how fixed. Here is what we take issue with. 1) Says the ser mgr in bham called one in Montgomery to find out what was wrong with car, this is off because when he finally called today, Wed 10-23-19, stated that he was not familiar with the vehicle, needed to be clued in. 2) Now being told the pump was ordered on Mon evening 10-14-19, (recall, thats the day before the advisor said we could pick it up because left light on and its fine now). 3) She says service mgr told her car was ready Saturday (remember the fiasco on Thursday the 17th, the email he sent replying the car is ready? Same day tried calling her but no response). So, who are we supposed to believe at this point??? She asks what we want from Hyundai? First time asked that was on first call way back on 14th, told her want car fixed correctly. Not convinced that happened. Techline was referenced several times but weve been told we cant be given any contact info for them so we can verify our car care was handled in most appropriate manner...we want any info techline got from either dealership and what info they related to them. Customer service says we can and should get a second opinion of not happy, but we have to pay for it. Our request is that they return our vehicle back to us, so we can do just that. We asked for it to be towed back, but they refused. We are not confident in the service provided at this point, would hate if mishandled and it ends up shutting down again on the road. Advisor says he confident enough to drive it back to us, but not enough employees avail for one to drive him back to dealership. Ser mgr says needs to think outside the box with our request...it would make other customers jealous if did for us and cant for them.... That was the last weve heard from anyone about it...That was on Wed 10-23-19 when told going to discuss with general mgr of dealership and get back with us... Reached out to general mgr of Montgomery dealership who replied to our online reviews, but he has not return our call either.

I had my inner CV boots replaced which were under warranty. After Hyundais service department fixed the inner CV boots, my car broke down about 2.5 weeks later (it seemed like a transmission problem). I had to have the car towed. They claimed they fixed something, without giving me any detailed information and it broke down again 1 week later (I had the same exact feeling of the transmission when it broke down, where I had to have it towed again - this is very frustrating and is extremely dangerous! The service manager informed me that the axle was broken on the first time it was in and it was fixed. The second time around I received numerous answers on what was wrong. They have claimed to fix the accelerator now, but there are several new problems. I did not have one issue with my car before taking it in to Hyundai for service. Now, we cannot figure what is wrong exactly because the computer seems to be malfunctioning. I have had the spark plugs and wires replaced.

We have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with the 2.4L 4 cyl engine. Engine made a knocking noise then locked up about 3 hours from home. Over time we had some minor issues with the car but were very happy with it overall. These included an oil leak covered under warranty, broken starter part, not covered, transmission not shifting properly, reprogram of transmission computer covered under warranty, and a broken door handle, not covered. The plastic starter part and door handle are known issues. When the engine locked up we were towed by AAA (wonderful folks!) 3 hours back home. I called the service department and was informed that there was a $101 fee to diagnose the problem. I dont work for free so I dont expect their mechanics to either. I indicated that the car was out of warranty by 2002 miles but asked that if they could do anything for me I would appreciate it. Service writer was polite but didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling. A sales associate did offer to give us an appraisal of our dead car toward another Hyundai. Fat chance of that happening. When it was all said and done there was no offer of help from Hyundai other than to install a high mileage salvage engine for about 4 thousand dollars. I have taken the repair to a shop who I have done business with for years. I will never purchase a Hyundai of any kind again nor will I suggest the purchase of one.

Bought a 2019 new Ioniq last month. On day 2 of owning it, after first opening the hatch, noticed banging, rattling noise from hatch going over bumps. Selling dealership would not take the car back, only advised to take it to a service center. I did that 3 times to no avail. Problem is same. Opened case with Hyundai corporate, they denied request for buyback. Furthermore, they told service dept not to spend any more on fixing this. So there I sit with a horribly noisy new car and no resolution. This is not a normal road noise. Its so annoying I dont want to drive the car. Hyundai has failed me in so many ways, I would never buy another. I now have to either live with a lemon, or take a huge loss on trading it in.

On June 13th, I noticed a rattling when I stepped on the gas of my 2008 Hyundai Sonata. By the time I got to my destination, the car was making such a horrible noise; there was no way it could be driven further. I called the Hyundai customer service number to arrange to have the car towed to the dealer and to make sure my warranty would cover the issue. I was assured that I was still covered under the 10 year 10,000 mile warranty. The following morning, the tow truck arrived and took the car to the dealer. Later that day, the dealer called me to inform me that I would need a new engine and that my warranty would not cover it. The engine would be a used one with 71,000 miles on it and would cost $5600 not including labor. Of course, I immediately called Hyundai and was told that I was misinformed the previous day and that I did not have the 100,000 mile warranty because I was the second owner. They assured me that they would cover the tow and the diagnostic charge but they would not cover a new engine. The reason I bought the car and not the Nissan Altima, which is a much nicer vehicle, was for the exceptional Hyundai warranty. I spent the next few hours on the phone with quite a few rude customer service representatives before I reached a supervisor. I stated my issue for the umpteenth time and he once again told me that despite the fact that the car is only four years old, it is not their problem as the warranty is up. So basically, Hyundai is saying that it is acceptable for a four-year old car to have a blown engine and too bad for me. I am a single mother who has recently been unemployed and I am still paying for this car. Suffice it to say that I will never buy another Hyundai again and I will certainly let everyone I know what my experience has been.

I purchased a 2012 Hyundai Sonata in May 2015. 3 weeks after purchasing I began feeling a weird vibration and jerk when accelerating and braking. The violent jerk would worsen and I took it to get an transmission flush and the jerking stopped. Weeks later the jerking began again. It did this in and off about 2 times in 3 months. I took it back to the dealer who had 3 different repair shops who looked at the vehicle and determined it was transmission failure. I received notice a few days later informing me that my model of 2012 Sonata was upon those being recalled for engine failure as well. On top of all this Im moving to California in 3 weeks and desperately need reliable transportation. I will never buy a Hyundai again and am switching back to Nissan. I purchased a new 2009 Hyundai Sonata GLS with a manual transmission about two or three years ago. I considered it to offer the most value for the price back then compared to an Accord, Camry, and other models. Unfortunately, I believe I made a mistake with this purchase. I wrote about my problems with this car on this forum before. Now, its time for a brief update. The power locks stopped working intermittently. This was a result of an electrical problem in the drivers side door panel. Thats not something that should happen in a car that is less than 3 years old. Another issue is that the iPod charger does not charge properly either, so sometimes my iPod has no battery power left even if it was charging while the car was on. The clutch master cylinder also has been replaced twice: once at about 12,000 miles and again at about 35,000 miles. The car has 40,000 miles on it now. Both times, the master cylinder was replaced free of charge. However, when I was getting a routine oil change about two weeks ago, the Hyundai technicians said that I needed a brand new clutch. Incredulous, I went home and found the maintenance records for the master cylinder because it had already been replaced twice. I went back to the local Hyundai dealer the next day and showed them these records and they said this had nothing to do with replacing the entire clutch and that it would not be covered under warranty. I asked why not and he said that the clutch was only covered by a 12-month/12,000 mile warranty because it was a consumable part.” He also said that the clutch can go out at 15,000 miles or 60,000 miles--depending on how you drive the car. Of course, Ive only driven cars with manual transmissions, so I know how to drive them. Ive driven cars that are much older than this one that have never had clutch problems, including an 11-year old Daewoo. But my Sonata made a rattling sound when it was idling and the gear shifts were not smooth. Now I know why. Anyway, after shelling out $1900, the car runs much better. But Im tired of dealing with maintenance issues with this car. I really want to like my Sonata, but I can no longer trust it. I think I would have been better served by paying the extra $1500 for a brand new car from a competitor instead of wasting my money and time being disappointed by a car that I really wanted to like that always seem to have a defective part or a part that is constructed of substandard quality. Theres not much dealership support and the parts dont seem particularly reliable. My wife had many problems with her 2007 Hyundai Accent as well, so I think Ive seen enough. We will not purchase another Hyundai.

I stumbled upon this website when reading about tires, and was surprised to see virtually every car company with such horrendous reviews. Then I realized its merely a sounding board for angry people with car troubles. I just wanted to share a little about my little 2013 Elantra GT. I bought it new, have done all maintenance in my garage, have used nothing but full synthetic oil and Hyundai brand parts (filters, etc to avoid warranty issues), and in return? Its been hands down the best car Ive ever owned. Nothing has failed in the first 3 years, 40,000 miles. No car Ive ever owned has accomplished that. It rides like its brand new, no squeaks, no rattles, no nothing. Comfortable as can be, averages 32 in the city, 36 on the highway. Ive owned many compacts in my life, none have come even close to this level of ride quality. Simply put, we love the car. Its our first Hyundai, and we would buy another in a heartbeat. And basically, this is merely a message to take everything you read online with a grain of salt. Including my review. Occasionally, youre going to get a car thats awful. I had one. 2012 Impala, kept it 9 months. It went back to the garage under warranty 11 times in those 9 months. Eventually, you just have to make a judgment call. Do you keep a car thats been nothing but problems? Or do you try something else. We now own a Hyundai and a Nissan and have been thrilled with them. Will I ever buy another Chevrolet? Sure! I just got a lemon. It happens. It totally stinks, but it happens.

2007 Accent problems - Where to start. First off, Ive had nothing but issues with this car. Faulty lighting, faulty sensors even my passenger air bag doesnt work, and theyve fixed it twice now. My light still remains on. I started having car issues when my car started jerking really hard when it went into gear. I took it to the dealership and they said everything was okay. My car runs like a champ. I asked them personally. Did you check my transmission? They said yes, everything is fine. I called a week later because I still was feeling the kick in my transmission. They said they never checked my transmission last time I was in. I feel I was lied to. Also, apparently, there was a recall on my car for several faulty wiring issues. I was never informed about this. I just found out in 2012 when this recall happened in 2009. Also, I got into a car accident. It was not my fault. Ive had my car took in twice for an alignment, window fixed 3 times. Also, my axle was affected in this wreck. They did not tell me this until I took it to someone else and they told me that my axle was messed up due to my car being hit. Hyundai never fixed it. Ive had something lose moving around under my car ever since the accident and they are still saying there is nothing wrong with my car and refuse to fix it. I plan on getting this car fixed then trading it in. Ive paid way too much money for things that were under warranty and should have been fixed the first time. I will never again purchase a car from Hyundai.

I paid extra for a paint and protection warranty 2 1/2 years ago (5 year plan) cost $295.00, for my Hyundai Elantra. I took my car in Sept. 13, 2014 on a Saturday, specifically to get my interior cleaned. I left my car there and came home. Four Hours later I was called and told they could not do the interior as they had no one to do this. Also the service advisor Pedro ** in charge told me this was the first time he heard of this warranty. And was told I had to come back during the week. I told him I couldnt as I work and they should have told me this hours ago or better yet the time I made the appt.. Well the service advisor Pedro ** stated they would do the cleaning. Well when I got my car back the seats were wet in spots, and when they dried none of the stains were gone. I have not called them back but I will and let them know how disappointed I am as I have paid for this service, and no one was honoring it. This will probably go on deaf ears but maybe it will stop someone else from giving the car dealership more money for service they dont follow up on.

From a 7 hour purchase fiasco to the BlueLink billing scams and the complaints about mechanical surprises and lawsuits - These people have gotten on my nerves. How many of you feel their BlueLink services are really worth the $200 to $300 a year? Thats a lot of dough to collect per car - a literal fortune for sub-par service and in my opinion, just a way to find out you need an oil change or something and nag the crap out of you. NOT HAPPY.

I bought my 2011 Sonata SE in April 2010. At about 55K the automatic transmission began shifting harshly. Within about 2 weeks the shifting had become a hard bang and the car was undriveable. The dealer spent three days diagnosing it but were not able to determine the cause. The manufacturer authorized them to replace the transmission. Over the months that followed, usually at highway speeds, the vehicle routinely surged in RPM from 2000 to 5500, but did not surge in speed. Two weeks ago, at 91K, the vehicle began to experience very delayed shifting from 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd, surging in RPM before each shift so that when the shift occurred the vehicle speed increased excessively creating a jack rabbit start. This week while driving at highway speed the transmission jolted dramatically, the speed dropped, and the RPMs rose. I figured it had gone into limp-home mode. I parked the car, verified that it was in 4th (by placing it in the manual shift position), and called the dealership. I let the vehicle sit for a couple of hours and found that it drove normally. I took it to the dealership where they pulled codes which indicated an incorrect setting for gear ratio at 6th gear. This seemed odd to me since thats all electronically/programmatically determined, and it made me wonder if they had downloaded the most current transmission control module program when they installed the second transmission. They are now installing the third transmission under the 100K Powertrain warranty. I have not yet been notified to pick up the car.I am very concerned for several reasons: (1) The erratic transmission behavior has me afraid to drive the car, especially at highway speeds. (2) I am very concerned that sometime in the next 35K to 55K Im going to have to replace the transmission - and that it may fail due to not being properly programmed or installed. I have not yet heard back from Hyundai Consumer Affairs.

My car (Santa Fe) was in park in my driveway which has a very slight incline and the car was running. I got out of the car, walked around it to get groceries out and went back to the drivers side to turn the car off. I put my right leg on the seat and reached around the steering wheel to grab the keys. The car started rolling backwards. My left leg was already outside the car and I was to get out but the car door knocked me down. The front tire ran over my right knee, my right elbow and arm, and my right wrist. I went to ER and was diagnosed with severe deep tissue contusions of my right leg and left arm right arm, sprained left ankle and right wrist. I watched the tire run over me and I watched the tire pass 4 from my head as it continued to roll down the driveway making a clicking noise, then jump the curb and stop in my neighbors yard (still in park and radio was on, but car not running). I towed the car to HYUNDAI. They said there was nothing wrong.

I put the hazards on and put it into park and tried to restart and it would not. I got it towed to the dealership and they inform me the engine has seized and it will cost me about $8000 to fix it! Hyundai Veloster - On October 4th 2013 my son was driving in Irvine, CA on Barranca and smelt gas. Passersby started to yell at him to get out of the car as it was on fire! The car caught fire and was a total loss. We are still waiting for Hyundai to pay on settlement they agreed to. 5 months has gone by since they completed their investigation and I am having to make payments in the meantime. Good luck getting them back! I’ve never received such a run around in my life. They go through account reps like water so can’t retain staff apparently. To add insult to injury they sent me a threatening letter stating I had to pay the loan off as the place the car had been towed to had put a line on the car for storage fees!! It’s totaled people!! #shameonhyundai

I brought my 2021 Hyundai Kona EV to Lithia Hyundai of Reno because my emergency braking and adaptive cruise control warning light were on. The dealership said that I damaged the radar under the front bumper, and it also took them three separate visits to fix the issue. Finally, I spoke with Hyundai corporate, and they said once the dealership mechanic makes a call about a problem, they can not change it even though I sent them pictures of the car with zero damage. There is a small scrape on the bumper that the dealership is saying broke an $800 part. I asked Hyundai corporate if I could send the part to their engineering team, and I even offered to pay the shipping, but they said no. I explained that they should be very concerned that if what the dealership is saying happened to be correct, you would think they would want to investigate why, but they still didnt care.

Bought a 2012 Hyundai back in 2020 for my older daughter with 100,000 miles on it, she drove the car for 10,000 miles and the Piston Slap started to occur, drove it right to Hyundai - get the call the motor is bad, next call Hyundai will not cover it because you are the second owner, only covered for 80,000 miles but hey if you were the first owner there would not be a issue. First off who buys a car anymore with less than 100,000 miles and a ton of money. Even with the Class Action Lawsuit they are picking and choosing which engines they will replace. We are a Hyundai family. Have owned of 6 of them and sad but true this is our last, and I will never ever recommend one to anyone.Stay away, dont make the same mistake as us, bought car for 5,000 and Dealership wants $9300 to replace the engine... This will never happen. Hyundai needs to go bankrupt and call it quits because they are not here trying to make it better for these 10s of thousands people that are out a car, plus money, time spent on making calls to corporate, filing complaints all over the place just to be told over and over and over you were denied. Just at the Dealership we are at over 5 other cars sitting there because they have denied.

Your roadside assistance is horrific.. I had a flat tire. Could not inflate with your inflate a tire. The tire was tore up because you didnt have spare. Had to call roadside. They never showed up. This was Sunday 2/22/15. I was told they could not tow me to dealership until the following day. If I would have left my car on road it would have been towed per state trooper.. Thank goodness for the kindness of the trooper in Glen Allen, VA. He took my son to merchant tire, dropped him off. His girlfriend had to stay with car and the trooper checked on her. I could not get to the car soon enough and the trooper came back and picked my son up and took him back to care. Thank you so much trooper for your care and concern for my young son and his girlfriend stuck on the side of the road. I have also been on hold for 45 minutes waiting to get thru to Hyundai roadside, no answer yet. So much for your care and concern and this will be reported to 12 news on your side... The customer service rep was very hateful when we got thru the first time, said could not tow to dealership after hours. Bla, bla, bla. Thanks Hyundai for your help. I will be trading my car for another make and model. Goodbye.

Customers are subjected to whatever decisions are made concerning problems by whichever Supervisor is working that day. NO ONE ever owns the problem. NEVER give this company access to any of your bank accounts. They will charge what they please. THE WHOLE HYUNDAI CORPORATION is a joke!!! They changed policy about making one time payments WITHOUT ANY notice to the customer. I changed from electronic bills to paper bills so I can mail my payment in to them rather than pay a fee from Western Union to make a one time payment. Since they are NOT trustworthy on having access to your checking account, I will not give them the ability to access my account!!! I detest this company!!!

It is a common experience for the visors to fall around 60,000 miles on Hyundai Accents. I found 22 complaints on the internet right away, without delving very deeply. The driver visor fell on my head while driving, so I couldnt see for about 15 seconds. This is very dangerous. It also hurt my head. Had to hold the visor up until I got home. Then had to cut it off. The passenger visor fell a few months later. Called customer service and they kept telling me a case manager would call me. He was supposed to call within 3-5 business days. He didnt call for 25 days, until I kept calling and wrote a customer complaint on the Hyundai site. Even though this is quite a common issue... and a safety issue that is happening to many people, I was told that Hyundai wont do anything to help with the costs. It costs $300 to get both visors fixed.

I recently upgraded my car to 2012 (July 2012 model) the car had 35,000 miles, on clock now 40,000. After the first major service at approx 39,000 miles I found some difficulty in changing from 3rd gear up and sometimes changing down. Went to local dealer who had car for a day, stated car needed further checking. Felt gear box problems, but needed to strip down first and get permission from Hyundai to same under warranty. However the following day I was informed there were signs of wear on clutch and flywheel also need changing due to heat damage, also that repairs not covered by warranty. When I questioned further I was told same was caused by driver and repairs would cost 900 euro plus vat. I refused and told them to put car back together. I was charged 273 euro for same. In my opinion the guarantee is a joke. I have been driving for over 38 years and never caused damage to a clutch. My husband contacted the Irish head office and found them very unhelpful and bordering on rude. My advice to anybody thinking of changing to Hyundai is think again. Stay clear and save yourself a lot of trouble. Buyer beware.

I bought a 2007 Hyundai Elantra in 2012. In 2013 I started having problems with getting the car to start. I took it to the dealership and was told I needed to have the Immobilizer Module fixed. I paid $400 to have them replaced and I was told I would have to wait for the little security symbol to appear on the dash before turning the key so the car would start. Even months after having this fixed it would still not start even after waiting for the stupid symbol to appear. It would take several tries. Then a few months later one of my back passenger door handles broke and you couldnt open the door. Fine, whatever... no one ever sits in the backseat anyway. Then the A/C died and I wasnt paying to have that fixed. Then in July 2015 I am driving down the freeway and I felt a thud and thought I had run over something. I looked in the rear view mirror but there was nothing on the road. I got to my destination and when I restarted the car, the engine light was on. I really didnt want to take it to the dealership so I took it to a mechanic and he scanned it and a code for the Shift Solenoid came up. He suggested I take it to this transmission specialist place. I ended up paying $1000 to have the Shift Solenoids replaced. A week later, Im driving and feel that thud again. Back to the transmission place. They tell me that it could be something internal with the transmission. Nice to know after I just dropped $1000 on this piece of **. I finally take it to Hyundai and leave it with them for the day. The service guy calls me and gives me a list as long as my arm of things wrong with the car... one being that the transmission is failing and the Immobilizer Module that I had fixed in 2013 needs replaced. In total, it was going to cost $5000 to fix all that was wrong with the car. EFF THAT. I went and bought a new car and it wasnt a Hyundai.

I bought an Elantra 2011 in the US. During the first year, it was 3 times in service for over three months for the same problem with its electronics. Its still in service under the 5th repair attempt. I contacted a lawyer to deal with Hyundai Motors America (HMA) and request a replacement or the cash back. I had a 2006 Azera that I drove for 147k Miles. It was a near perfect ownership experience. So I purchased a 2011 Genesis 3.8. Its been very disappointing to say the least. What made it disappointing is Hyundais degrading their warranty so that not a single malfunction has been covered by their warranty. I now had 51k miles on the Genesis. This is what had not been covered by their warranty. Navigation does not boot up ~30% of the time, moisture inside rear tail light, wind noise from passenger rear door from day 1, windshield wipers have no intermittent, phone bluetooth cuts out. Wheels peeling clear coat from day one. Dead front strut. So I would recommend avoiding Hyundai. I feel like a chump from driving one. Plus, the ride is rough and too much road noise for this class of car. Avoid!

I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Elantra on November 26th, 2014. The car was brand new when I purchased it. On December 23rd I noticed that my break lights would not turn off after having parked and removed the key. I was unable to get the light to turn off, but I had a trip scheduled to visit family during the holidays. I was forced to leave the car at my house in its present state. When I reached my destination on December 24th I called Hyundai (Lithia Springs) to tell them about the issues and to ask them how they wanted to handle this issue. The service representative told me to bring the car in on January 3rd. When I returned to Georgia I brought the car to Hyundai. While driving the vehicle I could smell a strong odor reminiscent of spoiled milk. When I arrived at the dealership they examined the car and initially told me that the issue was with the break clutch not depressing properly. After the technician replaced this part he returned to tell me that he was unable to correct the issue and that he suspected it to be an electrical issue. He requested that I leave the car with him so that it could be worked on and placed me in a loaner vehicle.I received a call today (January 6th, 2015) and was told that the issue had been isolated and that the car was not sealed properly and water had caused the electrical issues I was having. Mr. ** told me that the car would need to have the windshield removed, carpet removed, dried, and resealed. I expressed my concern with this and let him know that I wanted the car replaced immediately, to which he did not reply. I called back to speak with the manager Mr. **. He told me that Hyundai manufacturing would most likely not replace my brand new vehicle and that all he could do was try to fix the issues. I am truly unhappy and want my money back or a brand new car. I havent even driven this car 1,000 miles and not only am I without a car, but I am still being forced to pay for a car that was garbage when I bought it. Hyundai needs to give me my money back or replace my vehicle!

I have reached out because as a company they should only want the best products out there. I was told that “because my car is over 3 years old. There is nothing they can do for me. To bring it to a dealer and “see what I can get” for it. There has been problems with the suspension on this 2007 Santa Fe since 2010 with very low mileage. It took 5 to 6 visits before the dealer would even admit a problem. Problems with tie rods, lower arm assembly, stabilizer links, lateral arms bilaterally with no resolution of clunking metal to metal sound from front of vehicle. Now that the car is out of warranty supposedly, the dealer conveniently finds the lower arm on the right needs replaced. Hyundai needs to admit to widespread suspension problems without dragging on until out of warranty. I lease cars every three years, so Ive had many cars throughout my lifetime. Ive never written a bad review about a car or car company until now. I just turned my 2014 Sonata in early (40,000 miles) and decided to pay off the lease/lose a lot of money because I was scared for my safety. My heating and cooling unit had to be replaced, the shifter had to be replaced because it was making my car stall, the wheel wells tore off because they were made out of cardboard, the clasps on the armrest broke because they were made of cheap plastic, and the back seat material pulled apart because they only sewed part of the seats. Then there was the recent recall for the engine and seat belts at the same time. The seat belts were installed incorrectly and the engine had an issue where it could stall spontaneously while driving. The quality control for this company is ridiculous. Then the last time I took my car in to be repaired I started getting messages and flyers, within a week, from Hyundai about the car I own (I didnt own the car) and how I should extend my warranty. This has led to random warranty companies calling about extending the warranty to now receiving multiple calls a day from credit card scammers. This never happened before I had my car repaired as Im very careful about who gets my number. Clearly my number was given out by Hyundai and now its in the wrong hands. I am beyond disgusted with this company.
