The vehicle is not starting
If your vehicle either takes a long effort to start, or the vehicle just won't start by any means then the most predictable issue can be a dead battery.
You need to be very observant in order to correctly identify and troubleshoot such an issue with your vehicle. If In response to turning your ignition key the vehicle is totally silent then the issue is with the battery or connecting terminals for sure.
If there is a cranking sound while ignition then the issue might be with the fuel intake or the spark plug.
In any case, you can arrange a tow truck or if possible can jump start your vehicle using a jump starter kit to safely reach a nearby workshop for further investigation of the issue.
Engine Over-heating
Continuous over-heating of an engine can root for it to burn out. Engine temperature is shown with the help of a gauge on the dashboard –you do not want it to keep spiking toward the H on the meter.
Following are the major causes of engine overheating:
• Your vehicle might be over-burden, exceeding the load index rating
• Vigorously driving in the rough terrain
• Speeding
• Absence of oil or coolant
Excessive fuel consumption
In case you are realizing that you are requiring frequent fuel top-ups more often than it should then there is a serious issue. This not only increases the chance of you getting up stranded on the road but also being really expensive.
Following are the major reasons for excessive fuel consumption:
• A faulty fuel injector
• Bad driving habits – accelerating quickly and unnecessarily
• Bad oxygen sensors
• Bad air filter
• Incorrect tire pressure
• Using an uncertified motor oil
• Your spark plug is misfiring
Battery
The battery is one of the principal components of a vehicle that it needs in order to work appropriately. The life expectancy of a battery is around 5 years. The battery comprises lead and highly corrosive acid. A normal problem that occurs with batteries is bad terminals.
By applying lubricants on the terminals of the battery you can keep the battery fit as a fiddle. In case you are not a big fan of maintaining a battery, what you can do is buy a maintenance-free battery, which will work for a very long period without any issues.
However, you can do the following to ensure the proper functioning of your battery:
1. Inspect battery terminal
2. Inspect the connecting wires of the battery.
3. Check the water level, if needed add distilled water. Be careful!
4. Using the voltmeter check the battery voltage for the output of 12 volts.
Out of gas
This might happen when you run out of gas in the middle of the road because you were not paying enough attention to that fuel gauge, a warning light is not working or the fuel gauge itself is not working.
Make sure that you have a working fuel gauge and warning light, if not, you need to promptly visit a workshop to get it fixed. In addition, you need to periodically keep checking your fuel gauge for gas level.
Some people recommend reserving gas in a separate tank and having it all-time in your vehicle, however, in some states this is illegal due to the chance of explosion or worst.
Brakes
The most prominent issue among the most perilous issues is a bad brake, brakes normally wear out after some time. It is very imperative to stay aware of the upkeep of the brakes in terms of safety. Try to get the issue fixed before you face an evident disappointment.
Brake pads and rotors wearing out substantially more rapidly than anticipated – it commonly occurs due to the manufacturing fault. If you suspect such, make sure to consult a professional as soon as possible. Faulty brakes can be very dangerous.
Tire wear
It may not be realized when driving that your vehicle's tires are unevenly worn, however, worn tires can be risky because of their diminished grasp out and about. Make sure you do a proper inspection of your tires once a week and if possible every day. Worst ever service: 1) Got the delivery late by couple months. 2) No one ever picks up the phone at the dealership. 3) They force you to do the insurance from the dealership.4) The insurance claim process takes too long (15 days for a minor scratch).
I bought an extended warranty to 10 years/100,000 miles. Yet, anytime I have a warranty issue Hyundai refuses to honor the warranty. Radiator fails - they decline, O2 Sensor fails - they decline, Struts fail - they decline. What did I pay additional monies for to have the extended warranty?
I have had to replace 3 different door handles on the car because they broke when you tried to open the doors.
Hyundai is ok but Im not really crazy about it. It has a jerking feeling when you take off from driving. It does drive good on the highway but it doesnt in town. I want a smoother ride in town and a fast car. I also wish I had a sunroof and a navigation. Even so, I like that it has 3 different drive modes. It has eco, turbo and standard. The eco saves on gas so I have it on that all the time.
I am the original owner of a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS 6 speed manual, and the car currently have slightly over 150,000 miles. About 10 months ago I made my first attempt to get my car evaluated for rust spots that I noticed in various places (under side of the hood, gas fill cap area and frame above the muffler). Mostly spots are under the paint. I filed a complaint and obtained a case number. Despite having case number almost every time I called I had to explain the issue over and over again. I got a very little cooperation from the local Hyundai dealer (Branhaven Hyundai formerly Quality Hyundai) and a very slow response from Hyundai Motors of America. {and did not have anyone to contact most of the time}. The official response from Hyundai Motors of America came by mail only 6 months later denying warranty coverage. Only now after I got the letter I was able to get the name and address so I can file small claims writ for the cost of the repair and false advertisement. The official Hyundai website positing warranty coverage of 7 years unlimited miles, but for some reason my car did not stand in that guidance even if its only 5 years old. If you owned the same model vehicle Hyundai Elantra 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014 ask your local oil change place or mechanic to look underneath the frame and see if you have the same problem and if you do please report it to your local Hyundai dealer. Please see attached pictures and if anyone else experienced a similar problem please share it. Its impossible that Im the only one experiencing the problem. I am from Connecticut so we do have salt on the road but I own other cars and none of them got rust like that even after 10 years.
When headlights are in the auto position, they sometimes do not go off. This has caused the battery to be fully discharged. With the key fob in the car, the doors have locked. This happened at the dealership and car washes, as well as my home when I have tested it. The car has been in the shop for five times, three of those times overnight, and is now at the dealership for twelve days with no results. I have written to Hyundai, the Better Business Bureau and had a lawyer look into it. Hyundai claims they cannot find the problem and will do nothing.
My airbag warning light comes on all the time. 3 times I took it to Roseville, Hyundai, first they said the sensor was set to high. The second time they said a screw was loose. The third time they said a wire was loose; now the light goes off and on. I contacted Hyundai customer service. All they said was my car was no longer under warranty and that I needed to bring my car in for its regular service.
I purchase a 2020 Hyundai Kona, in Aug 2020, and the exterior black trim around the doors, windows and rear liftgate have faded! I took it to the dealership and was accused of waxing them, thus making them fade? Does that make sense? I called the Hyundai customer care department and opened a case only to be told you waxed it and they will not do anything about it! I didnt wax them, but now I have to live with it. BEWARE OF HYUNDAI PRODUCTS! I have the 2020 Kona Ultimate with faded black trim! The family that they claim you belong once you purchase a Hyundai doesnt exist!
I purchased/financed a 2016 Tucson Limited AWD in November 2015. In August 2016, I started experiencing issues with my transmission. Whenever I am in traffic, my car will buck and feels like its going to stall and sometimes barely accelerates. When Im stopped at a stop sign or traffic light and go to take off, my car barely accelerates. There are times where Im barely going 5 mph and the RPMs are high and then all of a sudden will start bucking and then go into gear. Ive had 3 almost near accidents because of this. When Hyundai came out with the DCT recall in October 2016, I brought my car to the dealership for service on the transmission recall. I continued to have the same issue, but it recently got much much worse. I brought my car back to the dealership on 4/1/2017 for the same issue. They performed the same exact recall again. As I was driving to work on Tuesday, 4/4/2017 my car started doing the same exact thing. I called the dealership right away and dropped off my car the next day. I picked up my car on Thursday, 4/6/2017 and drove it to work today, Friday, 4/7/2017 and I was experiencing the same EXACT thing. I drive almost 80 miles a day to and from work, always in traffic and Im terrified to be stuck in traffic, or to sit at a light/stop sign because Im afraid Im going to get in to an accident because of this. I called the dealership again today to let them know that Im still experiencing this and the service adviser left me a message saying that theres not much more he can do other than to keep performing the update on the DCT. That update was performed 3 times now and we havent gotten anywhere. Im terrified to drive around with my infant in this car let alone myself. Ive reached out to corporate and filed a case with them. This car is unsafe!!!!
My 2006 Sonata with 38,000 miles developed a bad engine noise. I took it to two dealers in Rochester, NY and it was diagnosed as a defective part in the hydraulic system, keeping chain tension. The cost to repair was $1000. Not something that should be happening on a car with only 38,000 miles. I called Hyundai Customer Affairs and they would not accept responsibility for the problem. This car was passed from father to daughter due to death 4 months earlier and as of 2004, the warranties do not pass to the beneficiary. If the father still owned the car, it would be covered. Last Hyundai we will ever own. We will be getting rid of the car.
Do not use this car dealership to buy a used car. I bought a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer. The car was used and I realized used cars have problems, but they knowingly reset the engine codes on this car to clear bad catalytic converter codes out of the car computer (there has to be laws against this). A couple days after I had purchased the car the check engine light came on. When I took it to a local dealership the dealer told me that with a reading that high the cars had to have been bad for quite some time. So the car was misrepresented to me during purchase. The car also had traction control light on and traction control not working, a problem with the accelerator (which could be the transmission I dont know yet) and a cracked windshield. The car also had 4 different kinds of tires on it, a couple had dry rot and didnt seem safe to me (consequently I replaced the tires first, they werent safe). The online listing didnt represent any of these details and neither did the dealer. I drove all the way from Dallas to Sherman to purchase the car. After spending the time to drive from Dallas to Sherman we got the sum total of about 10 words out of **. This is after he told us he would be available when we got there. Instead he worked with someone that was obviously buying a more expensive car. Dont buy a car from liars and cheats, stay away from this dealership. This dealership clearly should get out of the used car market, most new car dealerships stand behind the used cars they choose to sell on their lots and guarantee them. This dealership however does not fall into that category. You may be ok buying a new car here but I would strongly advise you to not buy a used car from them. They shouldnt be selling them. To top all of this off, they knew I was buying this car for a first time 17 year old female driver. Can you believe it, shame on them. I will fork out the money and fix what they should have. All I asked is they help cover the catalytic converter because they are at fault with this. I would have done the rest. But they refused so I am choosing to review them and let the consumer chose to use them or not based on my review. I hope you dont for your sake.
My daughter left Rehoboth Beach DE heading home to Philadelphia on June 24th when the engine on her Tucson gave out in the middle of the Delaware Turnpike. She had it towed to a dealer in Philly the next day. After a month at the dealership she was finally told that Hyundai USA had approved her warranty complaint and that they would be replacing the engine. We were told that it would be the middle to the end of September before it would be available... then October... then November. Today, November 14, 2018 I received an email that the engine wont be available until early January 2019! As someone else had said, I doubt seriously that the engine will be available then! This is ridiculous that they do not have replacement engines available. The engine has to come from Korea and they cite production delays as the problem. There is sure as hell new Hyundais coming every freakin day from Korea, so why isnt there replacement engines available? The 100,000 mile warranty is not worth the paper it is written on! It is a scam and I would caution everyone before you think about buying a Hyundai... DONT!
I really enjoyed our Hyundai Sonata 2006.... We had the usual problems/recall issue with the airbags in 2013... At about 45,000 to 50,000 miles... many electrical problems. Apparently at some point without being disclosed to us when we bought it, our vehicle was a rental. At some point liquid was spilled into the console which caused electrical damage to the car under the front dashboard (car would not start - no crank - damage to body control module), so the dealership said. We didnt spill anything and this didnt happen till 5 months after we bought it. Either corrosion takes that long or there was something else going on. Never saw this supposed damage. Cost: $500.Shortly after that repair (16 days)... the drivers door would only unlock, internal BCM problems again. Go figure... no charge to repair. At 50,000 miles (Sept 2008) the Check Engine light would come on, cruise control inop., ESC and ABS light on. Cause: code c1513 brake switch failure (just read today that at some point that was a recall - had no idea - 1-9-14 so decided to share my story with others). They replaced the switch. N/C, but for some reason I noticed they did charge for 2 brake lights and labor $65. Most likely they were fine and it was the switch.Other issues.... sure seemed like the rotors/calibers rusted really fast and we changed all 4 brakes/rotors/pads etc. every year!!! Had none of these issues with our older Ford Taurus. No engine issues with the Sonata... just electrical and constant brake replacing.
I purchased a new 2012 Hyundai Sonata from the Liberty Hyundai dealership in New Hudson, MI and experienced engine problems about a year later. I took the car into the dealership and was told I would receive a loaner car when they got some in stock. After continuously calling for a few days, I was told they still didnt have any loaners. After a while they called and told me that I could not get a loaner because they needed authorization to tear down my engine. So basically the service department manager lied about giving me one in the first place. He then told me his rep authorized to tear down my engine to see what was the cause of it not running correctly and burning oil. They told me I had sludge in my engine and the oil was never changed even though I have receipts to prove the oil was changed. The manager then said the place I got it changed from really didnt change the oil and I would have to go back to them. He then said as a result, my warranty was void and it would cost me $4,200-$8,000 to replace my engine. This was not the only problem I had with this dealership. The service manager also told me there is a recall on my car. I asked if they fixed the problem for the recall and he said, “No, unless we have the engine fixed.” When I first bought the car, they told me about a tire warranty, which is also a waste of money! They told me how great it was, and that if anything goes wrong with any of my tires, the company that offers the insurance would come out change my tire and cover expenses. I learned firsthand that wasn’t true at all. I had a flat tire and called the insurance company. They told me I needed to take it in to a reputable tire place such as Belle Tire. I took it to Belle Tire and had to pay for a new tire. The insurance company told me they wouldn’t pay for the replacement, and I come to find out if they did, it would be as a reimbursement. I was only happy that the flat tire didn’t happen when I was driving or on the side of the road, because they wouldn’t have come out to my location immediately. I am absolutely displeased and angered by their service! It seemed as soon as I pulled into the service department for them to look at the car, they were not trying to help - they were telling me lies and saying anything just so they wouldnt have to fix it. Not only will I never buy from Hyundai again, I will tell those who ask me about getting a Hyundai that it is not worth the trouble. Lord forbid something goes wrong, and it will with their cars, because they will not fix it.
Recall on Santa Fe gasket leaking oil into alternator - Received recall notice after I had already paid over $700 to repair same. Contacted Hyundai headquarters (10550 Talbert Ave., Fountain Valley, Cal. 92708) more than once. But never so much as get a reply. Sent them copies of recall and bill.
I called Hyundai assurance re my Tuscon. I bought a two year lease. I am covered. I called 3 pm to make a case for towing later in evening. I called at 9 pm to have tow. The guy came and said he cant do it because it is parked behind a car and in front of another. He left me stranded. I called hyundia back. They told me stop complaining and hung up. This is useless totally. I waited till 7 am to call my Geico who picked up car no issue and dropped it at service. When I called them in the morning they said I have no coverage cause I live in burrows. Seriously disturbing. I like my car but the poeple and service are zeros.
Briefly, after I got in my car and closed my door, it didnt latch well. I had been having problems with it lately. So while I was moving, I opened and then closed it again but while I was closing it, the lock mechanism engaged and as it was about to latch and lock, it bounced back open. So I quickly reached for it to grab it as a vehicle was approaching. I was in a parking lot at the time traveling at about 15mph. It had swung open so far that when I reached for it, my momentum shifted in such a way that I actually fell out of the car landing on the pavement. I was traveling at about 15mph. My car struck a parked vehicle. Damage to it was minimal. Damage to mine was significant. No pedestrians were struck, but I sustained a neck injury.
Having recently moved to New York State, I am required to submit a copy of the title of my vehicle in order to transfer the registration. Sounds simple? Call Hyundai, put in the formal request and receive a copy of the title. Life should be so easy. This process started just before Thanksgiving. Here I am now on the verge of having my car impounded as the 30 day registration requirement for the state is fast approaching. Hyundai on the other hand, cant seem to get me my document after several hours of phone calls, numerous calls, trips to the registry and time out of work.The finance representatives are rude, talk over me and have lied on a number of occasions. So what am I to do? If they dont send the document, I cant register. If I dont register, I lose my car, get fined or have issues with the law. I have never, ever, in my 52 years been so frustrated, disgusted and downright angry as to how they have treated me, their lack of concern and inability to get me a document, that in todays digital world, should only take minutes, not weeks and going on months.The representatives of this company who have deliberately lied to me, put me off and disrespect me are definitely in the wrong line of work. Customer service? OMG... they dont know what the words even mean. I need help before my car is towed away and I lose my job. Why? Because I followed Hyundais process and protocol. Because I had faith in their people... because I try to do the right thing. I guess a persons word no long means a thing.
I am very unhappy with the broken sun visors now both on my 2006 Sonata. This is unsafe! I had a Toyota prior and no problems bringing it in for fixes and recalls. I called Planet Hyundai and was told they cant help me. This is not a part that normally breaks on any car, so this is a defect in design! Yes Hyundai, take ownership here and fix this! I will keep on complaining until you put it right!
On Monday 3/7/16 my 2013 Hyundai Sonata accelerated on its own, jumped a curb and hit a tree. The airbag went off. The insurance company totaled the car on 3/16/16. The miles on this car was about 26,000. It was 7 a.m. and I was parking getting ready to put car in park and the car just accelerated on its own. The air bag caused a burn on my arm and I had to go to the doctor twice for the burn. I had on a fairly new Chicos top which was burned and hit the garbage. Because of the time and no one else in the parking lot no one else was involved, For this I am grateful. I have had to purchase a new car and of course is not a Hyundai. The car was registered in my husbands name Robert **.
My 2016 sonata is a month old. The adaptive cruise system has failed and initiated an emergency stop while driving. The driver door is misaligned and allows road noise into the cabin and water into the sealed part of the door. The drivers side windshield wiper is misaligned and fumbles across the windshield making all sorts of noise. When I went to Hyundai of Serramonte the service clerk directed me first to a body shop. Then to the Hyundai where I purchased the car since it was a different dealer. Then told me the problem was normal and pointed to a far off car and said something like all doors are like that. We then walked over to the other car so I could show him the weather stripping on the other car does not create a gap like is on my car. He then said I can make an appointment if I want and walked off.
I bought a 2013 Sonata because I like Blue Link. Was told in 48 hours my Blue Link should work. Didnt work. Been back to the dealer five times. Nothing. Talked to Hyundai. Darryl told me that theres nothing they can do. Please stay away.
I bought this from a certified dealer in Myrtle Beach who told me the 10-year 100,00 was transferable to me. Otherwise, I wouldnt have bought it. Ive had problems with the airbag light. I took it to a different dealer who now charged me to fix it saying the wiring was bad under the passenger seat. The next evening, I went to move the car and put it in park and it started jumping and rolling backward. I put it in drive and went forward, put it in park and it did the same thing. I had to put the emergency brake on. I called the dealer. They cant get to the car for 3 days so I have nothing to drive, and to top it off, tell me I dont have any warranty. That Im going to have to pay for repairs. I look at the warranty info online from the Hyundai website and it says that warranties transfer over to new owners. I think this company is a sham and the dealers are worse, trying to rip us off. I am a single woman and feel like I am being ripped off many times over starting with the Myrtle Beach dealer. My mom has been a faithful customer of theirs for years and has purchased 7 cars, 5 of them being Sante Fes, from them in 9 years and has recommended them to many people. I am so angry and disappointed with this situation. I guess loyalty doesnt pay. It just makes you vulnerable to unscrupulous dealers.
Car is only 5 years old, and the backup camera doesn`t work anymore.
Hyundai Motor Finance is not an easy company to work with. We bought our Hyundai and the dealership had superb customer service. Those customer service expectations are obviously not universal when dealing with other entities of Hyundai. We pay our car payments on time every month. The online system did not process our online payment last month even though I got a confirmation number. Hyundai waited 3 weeks before notifying us that they had not received payment. I went online again and paid the payment. I followed up the next morning to verify payment was received. The customer service agent said it had not been. I went online and paid it again per her suggestion. Five days later, Hyundai takes out two payments for the same amount from my checking account. When asked if they could refund, they told me I had to get a letter from the bank, show transaction history, and wait roughly 7 days until the check was cut and sent to me. They can draft accounts but not credit them. I asked if they were going to take care of my late fees. The supervisor said she needed to review the past 3 calls that I had with Hyundai over the last 2 weeks to determine. It may take a few days for someone to get back to me. My complaint is that the customer service reps that I spoke with each time told me different information, and Hyundai does not believe the customer is always right; they believe they are right until proven otherwise, which penalizes the customer. Do not work with Hyundai Motor Finance. They have cost me fees, time, and money from missing hours at work, from having to chase down letters from the bank, only accepting faxed info, not email info and not being able to handle concerns over the phone. All complaints must be in writing.
I recently took my car into Tuscaloosa Hyundai which is nearing the 60,000-mile original warranty and discovered that the new car warranties offered are limited. Did you know that the A/C system is only covered for one year? All of the systems in the car have different warranties so the 60,000-mile thing is just a scam. At 60,000 miles you are required to have certain services done for your so called million mile warranty to be valid and it is very costly. I assume that as you progress your mileage there will be more costly charges to continue your warranty. I just wanted to make the public aware that you are not getting a full bumper to bumper warranty. Whoever heard of a 1-year warranty on an A/C? On some systems, you have to pay for the parts while you are under warranty. This was never disclosed to me during my purchase of this vehicle. You can look the new car warranty up online and it says Limited new car warranty. I thought a warranty was a full warranty but this is not the case. My suggestion is buy a car with a real warranty, not a Hyundai.
I purchased a new 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS in 2005. I also purchased the Hyundai factory extended warranty which covers most of the parts and systems for 10 Years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first. In the past, I have been very impressed with the customer service and support of Hyundai owners by Hyundai Motor America. However, their new CEO is apparently abandoning the policy of supporting their customers and their good will. Just after the car passed the 100,000 mile mark, the cars thermostat worth around $13 stuck and the radiator was fried. There were no warning lights to alert me to stop driving the car as it was overheating.My Hyundai dealer wanted almost $1,000 to replace the thermostat and radiator. I almost fainted. I called other Hyundai dealers and they told me they heard of this occurring on other Hyundais the same year and model as mine. I called Hyundais customer connection line. After reviewing the case, they refuse to offer any relief. I also noticed that in the customer satisfaction surveys, Hyundai formerly sent their customers after service was done on their car to ensure dealers were doing a good job have ceased. No wonder Hyundai has dropped off the list of Americas 10 Best Selling Cars in 2011 and only has about a 5% share of the US auto market. Taking their valued customers for granted will most likely cost Hyundai dearly in customer loyalty and repeat business.
My new Hyundai Tucson 2019, 43000 kM, had transmission issue, they do not have parts to fix it, they do not know when the parts will be available, one week and still they do not have an idea when the parts will arrive, even it is under warranty, I called Hyundai directly, but they no information about expected arrival time for my car parts, useless and helpless, I do not recommend anyone to buy Hyundai in future.
I just want to say to all the people who have not had Hyundai’s commitments honored, dont take it. For about $20, you can file a small claims action and Hyundai will have to answer it in court. They will not be able to stonewall. Let them tell the judge how a written commitment is a mistake that they do not have honor. Ive found that all the stonewallers cave in when they can no longer just say no.
I purchased this car 6 months ago along with an extended warranty. I was driving it the other day and it just died on me while I was on a busy street! I put the hazards on and put it into park and tried to restart and it would not. I got it towed to the dealership and they inform me the engine has seized and it will cost me about $8000 to fix it! The oils burned up and caused it to seize!
Since the purchase of 2006 Sonata, I have had to have seat belts, seat, sensors for air bags repaired due to air bag light staying on. This car has been repaired for air bag light six times under warranty and now will cost $325 for the same parts originally replaced. Average miles between repairs of air bag is less than 1 every 6,000. Once, there was less than 200 miles between fixes.Dealer states repair not covered under extended warranty. Awaiting call from Hyundai CS. If not covered, I will probably have to do without air bag system working because they obviously have a defective system and cost is too high to repair every 6,000 miles
First and last Hyundai. I came from a Toyota family, but Id heard about the progress Hyundai was making, so I purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata (23 miles on it) in April of 2014. Fast forward to last week (March 2016) my wife experienced engine trouble with it. No check engine light or anything. But no problem, they have a 10yr/100,000 mile warranty on it, right?? WRONG! I took it in to get the engine fixed and they denied my request. They stated that based on what they saw, I didnt maintain the vehicle.Not once did they ask for my service records! (I had my car serviced more than the recommended amount...) I come to find out theres a class-action lawsuit for this very issue. They refuse to honor their warranty EVEN AFTER I provided proof of maintenance! This car was not even 2 years old yet. How frustrating. Be sure and avoid these guys. Theyre crooked. Never giving them another cent. Ill go back to Toyota.
I own a 2012 elantra. And while Im driving it seem the rear suspension rolls. From side to side. This only happens when I roll over a bridge bump, I ask the Hyundai dealer what could be the problem and their answer was the shocks need replaces. They replaced the shock twice but this did not solve the rear rolling. The top mechanic couldnt understand why this was happen. Superior Hyundai really doesnt have a clue why my car rolls. What can I do to have this fix?
On 8/20/2013 I was leaving the VA clinic, I put the car in drive and pressed the gas. A few seconds later the car sounded like a motorcycle and the check engine light came on. I didnt want to drive it on the highway so I took the main streets. The exhaust got louder and louder and I was afraid it might cause engine damage. I saw a Meineke Car Care Center and pulled in. They lift the car and the mechanic said that the converter gasket blew out. While installing a new gasket he noticed that the gasket flange on the front pipe was a little distorted probably from all the heat. He told me he would have to put a small amount of sealer on the gasket to make up for the gap and that he didnt know if it would hold, but it would get me to the Hyundai service department without hurting the engine. When he had finished and started the car it was perfect. No noise, no leaks. I had an appointment with Twin City Hyundai on 9/12 for a recall problem. I told them what had happened and the Service rep., the service manager and a mechanic looked for almost an hour and took some parts off the front of the engine. The service rep. called me over and started explaining what was wrong with the car. He said, and they ALL agreed that the manifold was cracked and had to be replaced, the converter was no good, and needed a new front pipe, and they may find other problems after they tore it down. Travis said it would cost $1400 to $3000 if the warranty didnt cover it. Travis (the service rep.) said he had to take some pictures to see if the warranty would cover the cost. On Monday 9/16 Travis called and said the warranty was void because it was road damage, and said it would be as much as $3,000.00 to fix it. Travis NEVER said anything about “Road Damage” on 8/20 after the 3 of them had a one hour inspection. After I got Travis’s call I took the car back to Meineke and told them what Twin City said it would cost. They were outraged and called it a scam. Meineke fixed the car perfectly by installing a new front pipe and their inspection showed NO manifold crack, and no need to replace the converter as it was working properly. The front pipe was $200.00.I drove to Twin City Hyundai and acted like I wanted to have them fix the car. I asked Travis to take another look and make sure he was sure about his appraisal, and what the car needed to be fixed. Even though the car was fixed he still said that it could be as much as $3000 but definitely no lower than $1400. That’s when I told him the car was fixed for $200 and that I wondered how many others he had scammed. I then went up and talked to the General Manager **, and explained the fraud that they tried to pull. His comments were “what would you like me to do about it?” I said as the General Manager, I guess that was up to him, and then out of nowhere he says you are banded from brings your car here for warranty service. He tries to punish me for because I caught his people trying to scam me out of $2800.00.
When you call in to Hyundai there is the normal menu that you select to reach the correct department. I was trying to reach Blue Link and I was put into a phone queue, theres music in the background asking you to hold but there is no indication of how long you have to hold. After an hour and 15 minutes with no answer I hung up and tried calling again making a different selection. Ive been selected Genesis customer service. After about 15 minutes they picked up the line and informed me that Id have to call back to Blue Link and they could not help me reach them. I asked to speak to a supervisor and then found out that if you wanted to speak to a supervisor you could leave your number and they call you back in the next day or two. So I left my number and received no return phone call. I then followed up with an email to customer service and again received no communication back other than acknowledgment of my email. Its now been two weeks, 4 phone calls and three emails later. Not a single phone call for me to go full email response. If you have a Hyundai product need help they arent there, Although I like the car I will not be buying another Genesis in 2018. This is the worst customer experience I have ever had with a major manufacturer.
In February 2016, we purchased a used 2013 Sonata Hyundai Hybrid with 47,000 miles. We also purchased the extended warranty. The car has a new car warranty in place, already of up to 120,000 miles. Total warranty period should be approximately 10 years. In March 2017, at 71,000 miles, the electrical (high voltage battery) shut down, the car just down and would not move in the middle of traffic. This happened 3 times before Hyundai was able to repair it so the car was running. This repair was completed March 30, 2017, along with a complete fluid change and tune up. Hyundai covered the battery under warranty and charged us for the fluids and tune-up.On October 2, 2017, the car completely seized up and engine began knocking. We had it towed into the Hyundai dealer. The car now had 81,000 miles total. We have contributed to only 35,000 miles. We have an extended warranty, but technically, since we are still under 120,000 miles, the car should be covered under factory warranty.Hyundai refuses to repair the vehicle, both their extended warranty department and the Hyundai corporate office claims that we are to blame for lack of upkeep. If this was not outrageous enough, Hyundai recently signed a settlement agreement regarding their 2011-2014 Hyundai Sonatas in which the customers stated in part: Plaintiffs further alleged that dealers frequently didnt replace the engine, citing the drivers alleged failure to regularly change the oil or failing to keep service records. Same thing is happening here, even though the settlement was reached and signed by all parties. There is no integrity in these large corporations anymore. We are without a vehicle in only one year (we put $10,000 and still owe).
I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata new. The first piece of plastic to break was the sunglasses holder. Then the cover for the mirror on the drivers side, the center console clip broke, 4 door handles. The last one I bought 1 month ago, and it broke today. I paid $154 for this one. My husband and I are retired so we are not rough on this vehicle.
I purchased a new sonata about 4 months ago. Love the car except when I push the gas the car hesitates then jumps forward. This is very concerning and dangerous when sitting in traffic or trying to merge. Guess I should have checked the reviews but we had had 2 other Hyundai cars without this problem.
I purchased a Hyundai Elantra Turbo back in September 2017. I have just recently been diagnosed with stage III colon cancer and have not worked for over a month and not sure when I will be getting back to work. I called the finance company for Hyundai and ask them if I could delay a few payments and add them onto the end of my lease. Their response was that there was nothing that they could do for me. I’m very disappointed! Upset! The way I feel right now if I could turn in my car and lease from another company that would have a little more compassion I would do it in a heartbeat! I will never buy another Hyundai based on this experience.
At 50000 mi., paint has started to peel along with rust coming through. 52000 mi., have had to have radio replaced twice. 55000 mi., both front drive axles have failed. These cars are a piece of junk. Glad I bought extended warranty. Will never buy a Hyundai again.
I bought a 2011 Hyundai Tucson about a year ago and was promised bells and whistles (which I knew in part werent true), but the one that appeared real was free maintenance for 3 years. To a single mom on a budget, that sounded spectacular. I even watched as the dealer and loan officer wrote down this promise multiple times, but when it came to signing my contract I did not double check to see if my free maintenance for 3 years promise had been recorded.When I called to make my regular service appointments, everything went smoothly at first. After about the third appointment, service fees started appearing and suddenly I was told by the service department that Hyundai never gives 100% free maintenance. Apparently, what was meant by my too good to be true deal was that free maintenance only means free oil changes and that is it. Everything else will cost you. Driving my Tucson is just fine, but being duped puts a sour taste in my mouth every time I step into my car. Im on the fence about buying from Hyundai again. No matter how much one tries not to get screwed over by dealers, it seems they always find another way to get you.
I made a down payment of $2k on what was to be a new 2013 Genesis Premium Coupe. After much research, I found out what others were paying for this vehicle and signed a purchase agreement, for which the salesperson refused to provide me with a copy saying it was against Corporate Policy. The exact vehicle had to be obtained from a W. Virginia dealership, so I didnt see the car until all the paperwork was signed. The window sticker of the W. VA dealership showed the car had 9 miles on it. I figured the vehicle should have about 100 to 125 miles on it. The salesperson stated they would have to search for one, and surprisingly, he had it on his lot the following morning. I couldnt pick it up for four days, so the dealership had time to call and alert me to the high mileage but didnt.I found out about the high mileage when I was signing the odometer statement. I questioned it and was told that the vehicle was not driven from the originating dealership but from another W. VA dealership that traded it with the originating dealership. Even in that event, 455 miles sounded unreasonable. I found several paint chips, nicks, and scratches when I got the car home. I requested to speak with the General Sales Manager about the high mile, condition of the paint job, and an allowance of $300.00. Despite repeated attempts, he refused to talk with me. The dealership didnt want to have anything to do with this matter, but the salesperson did pay someone $32.50 to fix two of the paint chips and he paid for a rental. The dealership would have had to pay for a rental anyway, since I had to bring the vehicle back to have the Paint and Fabric Protection applied and 24 hours were needed for it to dry.I paid the same amount for a vehicle with 455 miles that other people were paying for the same car with 2 or ten or sixty miles. I looked into the matter further and found that the car was driven from the originating dealership in W. VA to a dealership in Pennsylvania, back to a dealership in W. VA. and finally to Hyundai of Greensbug. The salesperson left that out. In addition, the mileage driven from the various dealerships fell short of 455 miles which meant someone was driving the vehicle for personal use. I have no way of knowing how the car was driven during the all important Break-In-Period. Furthermore, when I first liquid-waxed the car, I noticed another paint chip on the edge of the hood closest to the windshield. I dont know how damage was done so close to the windshield without damaging the windshield. The chip was down to the metal but covered with the paint protection dried solution.At this point, I had only driven the car, which is garage-kept, about 100 miles. So the damage did not occur while I had it. I called the salesman and he told me I could bring the car in to have the paint chip repaired at my own expense. There is no way anyone within their right mind would pay what I paid knowing in advance that the vehicle had 455 miles on it. No wonder it did not sell at the three previous dealerships. The car had to be sold sight-unseen. I take care of my vehicles which the attached photo of my 20-year-old Honda Accord supports.
We love the appearance of our Hyundai Sonata. However, it is covered under an oil consumption recall which the dealer will not fix. Hyundais complaint department is no help other than recommending us going to another dealer. The next dealer is further away from us. We already drive too far to the current dealer for them to do the oil consumption test. Said oil consumption test involves the dealer changing the oil early due to the oil consumption. They have guidelines that say the car must use 1 quart of oil by 1,000 miles. Our car makes it barely past 1,000 miles and then hits 2 quarts low before the oil change is due.We have been advised not to add oil or get oil changed anywhere other than the dealership. Thats what we are doing. They seem to overfill the oil each time which gets us barely past that 1,000 mile guideline. We cant trust this car for trips. We cant keep driving back and forth to the dealership for them to do nothing. We will not buy another Hyundai and we will continue to warn others of our troubles.
I own a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, first new car Ive ever purchased. My vehicle roof corroding due to poor manufacturing. Long story short Ive done the whole process for approval with the dealer (Ron **) and Hyundai claims the corrosion coverage is only 3/36. This is not what my owners manual says. It states 7/unlimited miles. Ive contacted Hyundai so-called customer care on now 5 different occasions. NONE of the people I have spoke with have ever contacted me back with resolution. The customer care line is a huge waste of time. No one there is capable of answering any question. They dont know their own manufacturers policy and procedures. It is appalling that Hyundai even claims them as customer care. Furthermore my 3-year-old vehicle should not have a roof that is corroding. Its super frustrating to be told that you cannot talk to anyone who can help. All I wanted was the time of day and someone to assist me with my concern. Instead I got the runaround for a month. A huge headache, super frustrated, no call back from anyone ever, and worst of all no answers. Do not buy any Hyundai product as they do not honor or even know their warranty policy. I will be heard on this concern as no one deserves to be treated like this.
I took my car in because I have been having trouble with the transmission. I have been very stressed because I do not like to drive a car that shows it is having problems. I have problems when I put it in reverse. I jumps and jerks. Also when I get on the free way, it struggles to shift gears. I was told that I needed to drive it for one or more months until the transmission breaks more. I am very worried because I get very nervous knowing it might leave me stranded or worse if I am in a free way.
The 2006 Hyundai Accent had low maintenance and also the cost for repairs and the upkeep for the vehicle was always very inexpensive. In addition the vehicle had great mileage on gas which helped when gas was $5.00 a gallon. It was also compact in size which made parking easy and had a 4 cylinder engine. There was a brief recall on the car for issues with the back brake light staying on after the car was shut off but the manufacturing department took care of the problem at no cost.
2010 Hyundai Elantra - The transmission jerks right from take off. At around 40mph, it will sometimes rev and not speed up as the car slows in traffic. I have almost been hit several times. I took it to the dealership, where we have paid for that ** warranty. They said they tested it, found nothing wrong with it. It still does it. Avoid this car. My previous car was a Dodge Minivan and oh how I miss her so. I hate this Hyundai with all my being.
Ive taken in my 09 Hyundai Sonata twice to get the airbag light fixed, under warranty at the time. It still keeps coming on. Now, not under warranty, I cant afford the $109 to have it reset yet again. Why isnt Hyundai fixing the problem? I assume they are just doing a reset on the light and not actually fixing the problem. Now I cant pass state inspection and am very disappointed. I like the car itself, but this is ridiculous! I have read that this is a problem with Hyundai, yet no fix?
My I20 had a heater radiator failure, I took it to Group 1 Hyundai Midrand. It took them 4 days to tell me that warranty has approved to fix. In the interim I asked for a quote as they were not calling me or saying anything. I had to leave go there and then two days later the workshop manager sends me an email stating that warranty approved and the part is in back stock from Korea and should take 21 days. Thereafter a week later I went to the branch to see on the progress. The parts guy didnt give me much. Promised to call but never called to date. You call they promise to call you back but never do. There is no customer service at that branch. Nothing at all.
On 3/24/2009, I purchased a new Hyundai Sonata. I had driven the car for 3 years with approximately 29,500 miles. On 3/9/2012, I had my car inspected. The depth measurements on my brake pads were front 9 and 10, rear 12 and 12. All of these measurements were in the green acceptable level which should not require replacement. The corrosion on the rotors was so excessive I was forced to replace the rotors and brake pads. I was also informed that I would have to replace the front rotors and brake pads in the very near future. In addition, I had to replace the dashboard shortly after initial purchase due to a defect and 1 year after purchase, all 4 of my wheel rims have rusted. I was told by the service manager that this was due to the PA winters. When asked that this must be happening to all Hyundai vehicles in PA, he said that was not true. I informed him that I am driving the same roads as other PA drivers. His response was, I am from California and I do not know anything about PA winters.I have purchased and driven numerous brands and vehicles over my 40 years of driving. I follow the recommended vehicle maintenance schedule and wash the vehicle regularly. I have never had to replace rotors and brake pads because the parts could not stand up to the environment. I lived in Buffalo, NY, Minneapolis, MN, Dubuque, IA, and Madison, WI and never had this happen with the Buick, Toyota, Pontiac and Chevrolet products I purchased. In PA, I have owned Jaguar, Buick, Mazda and Chevrolet and again, never had to replace rotors and brake pads due to corrosion.My vehicle warranty was under 3 years of a 5 year 50,000 mile warranty. Hyundai needs to inform consumers of the problem or stop selling cars in winter environments. The winters in PA are very mild versus other areas I have lived in and 2011/2012 winter was absolutely nothing. This must be happening to numerous consumers. If that is not the case, than there is a serious problem with mine. Hyundai is doing nothing to address this problem except, let the buyer beware.
We have a 2010 Accent and bought Hyundai dealership parts (tire sensors) and had a Hyundai dealership install the parts and two were defective but I didnt find out until driving the car home. I had to pay the dealership to take out the two bad sensors and reinstall the old parts until they found (4) working. I incurred several hundred in cost for the defective parts and the maintenance charges to deal with the defective parts. Customer service made me jump through hoops with documentation (which I provided) and then more documentation (which I provided) then more documentation including title/license copies? I finally lost my patience after months and had to file a small claims case. Their CA offices are apparently closed so I cannot serve their legal dept? I wrote a letter to their legal dept November 22, 2021 and havent heard anything from anyone at Hyundai. In the mean time Im out $700 + dollars since July, 2021. What kind of treatment is this for their defective parts?
I was in a car accident yesterday. I hit a deer head on going 70 mph. My airbag never deployed and the deer took out my entire front and shoved the engine or engine block back. The car (2010 Hyundai Elantra) is being totaled and no one can tell me why the air bag did not deploy. I spent the morning in the ER and have a concussion, bruises and pain from the impact of hitting the steering wheel. I called Hyundai and they want me to fill out an information packet for them. The car has only been serviced by a Hyundai dealer. First responders to tow truck drivers cannot believe the airbag did not work.
I purchased a brand new 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The transmission blown at 43000 miles and they had no idea why. Now at 71, 000 the engine had blown and again they have no idea why. I am so dissatisfied. The kbb value of this car is horrible. They have fixed the transmission under warranty and will be fixing the engine, however who is to say that it wont happen again especially since they have no idea why the both blew in the first place. SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS company.
I own a Tucson ix35, I am very happy with the car to the point that I wanted to change my old one for a new Tucson. My disappointment started after I took it to the shop because of a hesitation problem. It was a Friday, at first I was attended adequately. They asked my phone to call me the next day (Saturday) to inform me what the car needed to solve the problem. They never called me until I showed up on Monday in the shop to see what the problem was. They have not even touched the car and they were surprised to see me there, at 3:00 p.m. I received a call telling me that the price was approximately 360 u.s.d because they did not know if other parts were faulty, showing that they have not checked the car professionally and technically to what I said to suspend the work.When I appeared to take my car, the person in charge tried to give me a not convincing explanation for the delay with a not very friendly attitude. After he was asked about report a serious shop is supposed to give the customers before delivering the car, the guy said Do you know what a check up is? and urged me to pay 39 u.s.d. My son was about to react but I signaled to calm down. I did not say a word, paid the bill and left the shop. The car was as dirty as I left (I do not know if they do not have any more the policy of delivering a clean car or simply the 39 dollars I paid are not worth it). Anyways the summary is: I as a customer feel mistreated and I am seriously reconsidering the possibility to buy another Hyundai. Take this information of my bad experience to try to improve the quality of the service. My best regards.
Bought a 2014 Hyundai Accent hatchback. During the purchase I was upsold extended warranty (BIG mistake $2600). All was fine until snow fell. Bottom of the car, which is covered with what appears to be black cardboard, began peeling off. Apparently driving in the snow is considered reckless driving and not covered by warranty. If you live anywhere there is snow, do not purchase vehicles from countries that do not have such weather. And definitely do not purchase extended warranties!
They have held my title for 4+ months with no resolution! Ridiculous and terrible customer service. I am now stuck in the middle of trying to get this title to my new creditor because they have hung up and wont respond to my new creditor. They hang up on them. Despite the address on the back of the check, the letter, and subsequent 2 letters petitioning for them to send the title from April of 2020 nothing has still been done. Even upon contacting them today, via phone, they say its stuck, Ill send an email to my supervisor and the title division to get the title sent. So ridiculous. Hyundai should be aware, that at least for me, this will keep me from ever using their finance arm again and as many of their deals are if you purchase through them itll definitely drive me to another brand.
Once you buy the car you are on your own with respect to the warranty. There is a poor association with the dealers and the company. The dealer will tell you the work is not covered or do poor work on the car and you have no options. The company will say it is a dealer issue and the dealer will tell you that the corporation has such strict guidelines on warranty work and you will not get anywhere. I complained and sent letters to executives and the president and they will send you back to customer service which will give you the usual routine about company policy. There is NO means of escalation. All you can do as a customer is use social media. This company has archaic concepts of customer service. This company has a long way to go with respect to customer service after you buy the car. Warranty work is very limited. Do not expect standard repairs after you purchase. I will never buy a Hyundai Car again!!!
I bought this car when it was 3 yrs old and had it for 2 yrs. I noticed the engine took a long time to start and just got worst. When I took it in for a service they found the head gasket had blown. This is on a 5 yr old car! Whats worse is the warranty had just run out by a couple of weeks. I rang up Hyundai but they wouldnt repair it under warranty or goodwill since it just run out. You dont expect a head gasket to blow on a car this age. This is more common on very old cars with high mileage. Considering this is a very unusual thing to happen and with its warranty just run out you would expect Hyundai to fix it for me or at least pay some of the cost. The cost to fix it is just under a £1000 and the car is only worth £5000 :(
Not only did our Sales guy sell us a car without the one feature we requested (auto-start), but it is now in service for the 3rd time due to what feels like engine failure when accelerating. Last 2 times Hyundai of Paramus service department stated that since they could not duplicate the issue, that they considered the issue resolved. This time, they did a tear down and are telling me it is the automatic clutch. They said that we beat on the car and thats why. I am 40 years old, live in NJ (the land where traffic happens everywhere, every day) and most of the time my 2 small kids are with me. We thought this would be an economical choice, but it looks like we got a lemon. The service dept. District Manager Sean ** denied our claim for this repair to be covered under their amazing warranty, and told my husband to try and dispute the claim with Hyundai corporate. So, we called corporate, and they said that our only option is to contact the better business bureau. Dont do it to yourself. You dont need the aggravation. Take it from me... 5 days later and $400.00 poorer. Hyundai claim number**.
I have experienced one of the lowest quality customer care and service from the customer service department of Hyundai USA. I have cases open with them for the past 4 months. I am following up with the customer service department every week, and I have received a very poor unresponsive service from this department. Do not recommend this car manufacturer if you care about (and expect to receive) quality customer care and service.
I purchased a brand new Hyundai Elantra GT. I have had the car for less than 6 months and have just experienced my 3rd flat tire having to replace each one. Two blowouts and one bubble. When I wrote to them their response was to just give me a list of tire companies and phone numbers. I bought the car to be reliable and now Im afraid any given moment I may be stranded on the side of the road. My old used car went 7 years and only had one flat but a brand new Elantra has 3 in 6 months.
This is my second Accent and on the first one the paint job on the roof of the car started to oxidize. When I bought this one I asked them if it was going to be a problem again. They assured me they had fixed the problem. Why did I believe what they said. My car is almost 4 years old and I noticed that the paint on the trunk is already starting to oxidize. I like to keep my cars for a lot of years and the last thing I want is a car with a bad paint job. I would not recommend this car if you are the person who wants a car that looks its age not like a car from a junk heap.
I had a rotten experience with service. My brand new vehicle started to rust in the trunk immediately after I bought it. I took it to service. They identified the problem. They tried to correct it and it didnt work. It took so long that by the time they came up with a solution they told me my warranty was up. They just said, Sorry these things happen and in the end I would never endorse anybody to go to Hyundai Canada with this kind of service and product.
My experience with Hyundai has been one I wouldnt have expected from a reputable company. I was told I couldnt get any assistance with a car I purchased from them in April 2017. Three months after purchasing the car it was in the shop for a check engine issue. I took the car back to see why it was on when I had just purchased the vehicle. Since then my car has been in the shop a total of 8 times to date. I will continue to expose the misrepresentation Hyundai provides to the public on a daily basis with their commercials and other advertisement. As a consumer we all deserve to have the products we pay for to be operable and in good condition. Nelson a representative of Hyundai informed me I would not have any further resolution if I spoke with a manager because they would only listen to him in regards to my complaint directly. I feel every time someone drives a Hyundai vehicle their lives are in jeopardy due to the negligence on production. My car has been in the shop now for over two months to replace an engine that has been replaced for the second time in a year. I can assure you I will never recommend Hyundai products again to anyone. Do not purchase any Hyundai vehicles no matter what they offer you!!!
The music system of my i20 car has gone out of order. Though I contacted the local dealer for repairing, they told me to buy a new one as the same is not repairable. Thus, Hyundai is cheating customers by providing such a music system with the car. Though I had sent a number of mails to Hyundai (India), it was in vain. I think the customer care section is also a cheat - really horrifying.
The car is very durable but it makes noises on transmission changes especially when the eco boost is on. The dealership I went to was great. The salesperson was very knowledgeable on the car and the process was easy. The car was everything I was looking for with a little bit of an upgrade. Some things werent clear like how to update the nav system. The touch screen is not very responsive depending on if you are the driver or the passenger. The eco really does save on gas but it makes the change even slower when speeding up or slowing down.
For 5 years, I had my payment automatically deducted by Hyundai Finance for my car. In December, my balance was $59 and they deducted the whole $279. I called and they stopped the auto deduction and they would send my refund within 30 days, which it took all 30 days. At the end of January, I noticed they took out another $279 so I called. They said the auto payment was turned off and they were not sure why it was deducted. They said they would refund it but it would take another 30 days and assured me the auto pay was deactivated. Lo and behold another $279 was deducted from my account today and when I called, bottom line is it will take another 30 days to get my money and nothing they can do to refund sooner.
When Im looking for buying 2020 Tucson, Hyundai College Park sales person who name is Sharon ** contacted me that they have a 2020 Tucson value and gave me a confirmation with good price. But when I be there in appointment time they do not have that car and show me another car with higher price. Sales manager said me just had been sold out what I want, Even nobody said me sorry. l lost my time and very disappointed. I want let everybody know who want to buy new Hyundai car be careful as like this tricky sales in Maryland college park Hyundai dealer shop.
In early Jan. I bought a new 2014 Hyundai Tucson. Shortly after I started to notice a smell that I thought was just the car breaking in. After about 1,000 miles I asked the salesman about some smoking from the engine. He said it was probably just the new car breaking in. It seemed to disappear for a while. Then around 4,000 miles it seemed to start again or at least I started to notice it again. I made an appointment to bring it in for service and to check it out. They told me it was a cracked gasket and they had to order the part. They gave me a rental and I returned the next day to pick it up. Then they told me they found 2 holes in the manifold and it was leaking oil and they had to check with a tech to find out what to do. They had to order a new head and I guess rebuild the engine. After a week without my car I went in to see the salesman to see when it will be done and if they could do anything to compensate me for the inconvenience. They said they could put me in another new car (lease to own) for about 5,000 more dollars. Same payments and a buyout fee of about 12,000 dollars. I had a 6 year loan and this would be more than I signed on for 3 months ago (and about 4,500 miles ago). This is 4/12/14 and I still dont know when my car will be ready! I took it in on 4/03/14. I dont know if it will affect the car long term or not. Please let me know if there is anything I can do about it. Thank you.
We have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with the 2.4L 4 cyl engine. Engine made a knocking noise then locked up about 3 hours from home. Over time we had some minor issues with the car but were very happy with it overall. These included an oil leak covered under warranty, broken starter part, not covered, transmission not shifting properly, reprogram of transmission computer covered under warranty, and a broken door handle, not covered. The plastic starter part and door handle are known issues.When the engine locked up we were towed by AAA (wonderful folks!) 3 hours back home. I called the service department and was informed that there was a $101 fee to diagnose the problem. I dont work for free so I dont expect their mechanics to either. I indicated that the car was out of warranty by 2002 miles but asked that if they could do anything for me I would appreciate it. Service writer was polite but didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling. A sales associate did offer to give us an appraisal of our dead car toward another Hyundai. Fat chance of that happening. When it was all said and done there was no offer of help from Hyundai other than to install a high mileage salvage engine for about 4 thousand dollars. I have taken the repair to a shop who I have done business with for years. I will never purchase a Hyundai of any kind again nor will I suggest the purchase of one.
The car is extremely quiet in the cabin because the gas engine turns off when approaching stops. All waiting at lights is done with practically no sound except the climate control system. After approximately 3000 miles, I began hearing a knocking, clunking sound during braking. It became worse and worse until you could count 5 to 8 knocks as you approached stops.During the 5,000 mile service, I reported this and the Hybrid Technician rode with me in the car and easily heard the noise. He correctly stated, the sound seems to be coming from the firewall behind the steering wheel. There was an identical 2016 Sonata Hybrid on the lot. Same options only a different color. We could not this car to make the noise.An appointment was scheduled to look at this. The brakes were bled and the technician admitted the problem was better but not resolved. Indeed, the sound was better for about 200 miles then the issue returned as before. Only worse. Another appointment was scheduled. This time the brake fluid was removed, something was filtered??? And fluid replaced and bled. This totally removed the issue for another 200 to 300 miles and then the noise slowly returned. Another appointment was scheduled. This time I was told to leave the car and loaner would be given to me. Instead, when I arrived, I was told I would only have to wait 30 min and then take the car. I was told the brakes had been adjusted and the car was safe. No change or resolution at all.I called Hyundai USA only to get an attitude from ** about why I would complain about such a small matter. The brakes were safe and I should expect a car with 10,000 miles to perform like the Silver Sonata Hybrid on the lot with less than 50 miles. Im not making this up. I asked ** to connect me to her boss. She refused saying, Id have to talk to her. I said I wanted to speak to her boss. She replied, He was in a meeting. I asked her to leave him a message and call me back. That was weeks ago. NO CALL BACK. At this point, I began pulling out the Lemon Law booklet and left a few pissed off messages to the service manager in Sport Durst Hyundai in Durham. This prompted a return call stating that in the previous visit nothing had been done to the car but a regional parts and service manager was in town and wanted to ride in the car.So I went back for a 4th time. Four of us climbed into the car. ** The technician, ** (Hyundais regional manager), ** (Sport Durst service manager), and I drove. It was not difficult to create the sound by feathering the brake pedal. The real noise, however, happens when the car is in start and stop driving. When its hot. They had a remote part microphone, when was turned on indicating the noise was coming from the Hydraulic Brake Actuator.Okay. The part makes this noise. For the first 3,000 miles I never heard the noise and you still cant hear it in the new Silver Sonata Hybrid which was on the lot. My response was, I dont care what kind of noise a part makes in the engine compartment, I dont want to hear this in the cabin every time I put on the brakes. The regional service manager then stated that for CUSTOMER SATISFACTION the part would be replaced. The part could have been replaced 6 weeks earlier when I brought it in, but Hyundai in California refused to authorize this replacement.Ive never owned a car even from the 70s and 80s that made such a noise when applying the brakes. This condition is beyond unacceptable. So today, I get the new part. Im almost certain that within the next 3000 to 4000 miles the noise will return as before. Im also confident that hundreds of 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid owners in the next 6 months are going to be bringing in their cars with brake noise complaints. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for them to remove and replace this actuators.
I have a HYUNDAI 2013 HYBRID SONATA. From as soon as 2 weeks after delivery, I knew the car wasnt right. Gas mileage never near supposed to be. Told due to break-in period. Hyundai engineers say no break-in period. Car hesitates, stalls, brakes lock as well crappy gas mileage. Well been complaining ever since after the break-in period. Then its the way I drive, weather conditions, etc. Finally a noise from the EV motor and then the gas mileage drops another 200 miles per tank bringing me to about 25 miles gal. The noise Im told is the electric water pump. One has been ordered and I ask, Can that be the smoking gun? The service rep. says no. Now being a lay person, I know more about these cars than I ever wanted to mechanically and obviously more than the mechanics employed to service. Common sense tells me theres a correlation and lo and behold so do the articles when I google water pump failure and hybrid though not Sonata. Yes hybrid. All my complaints and issue are shown to be part of the electric water pump again in different automaker but hybrid. Now theres 13,000 miles on car and Im sure this water pump was bad from the get go so what damage could it have caused to the hybrid system? I dont care to find out going after lemon law as this is the 4th time in and now I hope to be able to prove its not me nor the elements all cars operate under. The car is bad. My car mimics the problems found for the 2012 hybrid. Wonder if the first production of 2013 may have carry over issues. So anyone experiencing problems may want to wait till you hear the buzzing of the bad electric water pump. Its an obvious annoying noise. *I ASKED THE DEALER, REALLY, DO YOU THINK IM BACK AGAIN BECAUSE LIFE IS BORING? IF YOU DO, YOURE SADLY MISTAKEN. And no, its not found on computer or diagnostic review. They told me they follow the noise. So having it checked. I dont know how you could do this without paying on your own to replace. Just keep bring it back so you tally those request. Hopefully you meet lemon law outline. My $25,000 headache is a full time job tracking tach pictures at fill up and keep records... Good luck
I bought my 2011 Sonta in September 2011. From the very beginning I should have known something was not right. The car was fine but the people, sales people and financial staff leave something to be desired. My original quote was what I agreed upon but when they processed the paper work it appeared to have escalated in monthly payments amount of $80. I have been to the Fairfax Hyundai several times since then and have never walked away feeling as if I were taken care of or received what Hyundai says it would do with customer service.The last time I went in, the service person said that he would take care of me and ended up charging me for what should have been routine service and, they did a software upgrade recall that no one told me about. They charged me $400 and then, when I questioned the charges and showed them the work, they did they said they made a mistake but would not be able to refund the money and would give me a service credit. After a few calls to them and my credit card company, they refunded the amount to my account but did absolutely nothing to compensate me for the eventual charges I racked up due to their connivance.I now check regularly to see what the latest malady with this car just to make sure I am driving a somewhat safe vehicle. To be fair, the car has been great. It worked fine until I had to take it in to Fairfax Hyundai.The last incident my car just died on the road, really bad area for traffic. I had to call the police to run their lights to keep me from getting hit. Shout of to the City of Falls Church, VA and their police department. They were great. I have roadside assistance and they sent someone from Blairs towing (Alex) and he was great too. There was only a 20-30 minute waiting period. He towed my car to the dealership.Now, my wife had been talking to the service floor manager and he informed her that when I arrived I would get a loaner car. That never happened. She had to come pick me up from the shop. I am waiting to hear from them still now. They said they would call at 8 this morning. What can I do? I have no idea what to or how to take some sort of action that would make a significant impact on the way they service cars or people.
I am trying to begin the process of making a lemon law claim on our Santa Fe. I am wondering if anybody else has had problems with the back liftgate automatically closing. We have had it repaired 3 times already, and now after taking it in 6 months ago they have still not been able to get it fixed for what would be the 4th time. I have been hit in the head numerous times, and the other day my son was trapped by the liftgate. Luckily I was there to get it off of him, because it will not stop coming down unless you pull very hard against it and he is 8 and was face down.The dealership is useless, they have been ordering the parts for 6 months. We have called repeatedly and get the same answer. Unfortunately there is not another dealer close enough for us to go to, and they also have told us we have to get it repaired at their dealership. This is a joke, and I was wondering if others have had the same issue. Just trying to get all the evidence I can to try and force a resolution. We basically do not use the back of our car anymore. Hyundai is awful.
I have had repeated headlight failures without any accidents. I have replaced them and had them fixed by my local Hyundai factory. The manager suggested I contact consumer affairs and Hyundai about this issue. I cannot keep paying when there is nothing I caused. This is an obvious manufacturing issue.
2012 Hyundai Elantra does not get 40 mpg: I purchased the car brand new, and now, I have 12, 000 miles on the car. I drive 38 miles each way to work everyday. I drive mostly highway miles and always set the cruise at the highway speed limit. The car promises 40 mpg highway. I have never gotten more than 36 mpg. When I contacted the dealership, they said that it will get 40 mpg after I have been driving about 1,000 miles on the car. I am now at 12,000 miles, and it does not get 40mpg. This was the only reason I chose this car, and now, I am stuck with this loan for 5 years and I am very unhappy about this issue and the lack of response from Hyundai.
I, myself, own a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that I adore. I used to work for Hyundai, dealing with warranty. My fiance is a Hyundai-certified technician. These cars come with a 5-year/60k miles BASIC warranty. NOT bumper to bumper like many salesmen claim. Batteries are covered 100% for 2 years, and the 3rd year is prorated. Sunroof issues WILL be covered under the 5yr/60k. Tires are not covered, but you have roadside assistance for 5 years, regardless of what you are equipped with to handle flats. My car does not have a spare, I got a flat last month, and they towed me at no charge. No questions asked. If you have a spare, obviously roadside is not needed. But be sure to maintain the spare just as you would other tires. Tires lose air with time. Light bulbs are covered 12 months/12k miles. They are wear and tear as well, so expect to change bulbs once in a while. Maintenance items are not warrantied (tranny flush, brake flush, oil change, etc.). Use Hyundai genuine parts. Trust me. If your engine ends up having issues, and you have an aftermarket oil filter, good luck getting that engine warrantied. I buy Hyundai parts, and follow maintenance schedules exactly how they are written.Most people here would have had a better outcome if they would have educated themselves on the vehicle. Its not hard to do. Im a female, but I know more about cars than most males I know. Dont walk into a dealership with the wool over your eyes. Know your stuff, know the warranty, and know what youre driving. My car is only a year old, with 25k miles, but it has run 100% perfect for me the whole time. I have taken it on long road trips and it handled them with ease. My gas mileage on the highway gets up to 42 mpg! I dont work for Hyundai anymore, so I dont benefit from saying any of this, but I do take pride in these cars. I chose to pursue the medical field again, otherwise I would be a Hyundai employee still. You also have a right to know who works on your car, so ask. My fiance is a master technician with Hyundai, and he treats every car like his own. Go ahead and meet your technician. Discuss your concerns. Trained Hyundai techs will know their stuff and know all of these cars like the back of their hand. Make sure you realize that like every car, they will age and not be perfect anymore 1 day. Cant expect a car with 150,000 miles to run like its new. The 10 year/100k miles warranty is a great incentive to buy these cars, and not many people have to utilize it during those 10 years/100k miles. I would choose Hyundai over Toyota or Honda any day. Read and educate yourselves, people.
2006 Hyundai Sonata: air bags no longer work; lights on; and dealers service department says this is not covered under 100k warranty. I have 70k miles. This is a safety issue and Hyundai says its not covered! I am reading this particular issue over and over on websites! It is very poor that there is no warranty on this issue. Several hundred dollars is needed out of my pocket to repair it. I cant afford it. So, in case of an accident, too bad! And yes, the passenger air bag had to be repaired couple of years ago. Now, neither work (according to the system).
We bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. I only get 34 MPG on the HWY. The mileage reimbursement is nothing short of insulting. I was blatantly lied to by my salesman when I purchased my car. I was very much bothered that the hybrid does not have a spare tire, so much that I considered walking away! But my salesman said, If you get a flat, we will bring you a tire and YOU GET FREE TIRES FOR FIVE YEARS. I replied, Is there a mileage limit on getting the new tires? Salesman: No mileage restrictions, free tires for five years. ABSOLUTE LIE!! I called the service department recently and the woman practically laughed at me! And last, I called the previous Mercedes Benz dealership that I bought a car from in 2002 (WHERE TRUE CUSTOMER SERVICE LIVES). Turns out the 100,000/10-yr warranty that we paid $1,995 for, cant be transferred which dramatically reduces the resale value!! Not only did the company lie about the MPG but the dealership lied as well!! I will never buy another one!
October 2015, 120,000 Km & Faulty crankshaft sensor shots down engine... Huge safety issue. NO Brakes, No power steering. Lucky I am on a level road. Hyundai Australia denies any responsibility as the vehicle is out of warranty... UNBELIEVABLE RESPONSE!!
Got wheel bearings changed at a local mechanic. The part was under warranty. I filed for warranty, requesting reimbursement for $250. I have been asked to get the proof of work done from a Hyundai dealership, which I am in total agreement with. The dealerships are asking me $400-450 for inspection. I am willing to pay that amount, considering that I would be reimbursed for it all. I repeatedly asked Hyundai customer service, whether I would be reimbursed if the dealership confirms that the repair was done. To which, I am being told that they cannot guarantee. Beyond common sense, how this works.
2012 Hyundai Tucson. Bought my Hyundai late in 2012. My car has 86,000 miles on it (I commute for work) and the motor is shot. No noise. No lights. No warnings at all. I was traveling and engine light came on and thirty SECONDS later I was on the side of the road. I have had to argue through all of this with the dealer and Hyundai in order for my car to be repaired. I have (thankfully) kept all maintenance records through my mechanic. Needs new motor and there are none available because Sonatas were all recalled for the engine design issue. Same issue as the design flaw in mine but Hyundai gambled with lives and warranty that the engines wouldnt go until after warrantys were up. This has been a nightmare!!! They are telling me it is going to be 8 plus weeks before my vehicle is repaired. In the meantime the dealer has given a loaner car that is NOT comparable to my vehicle what so ever and it is the Sonata you know the one that has been recalled for motor!! Are you kidding me. Husband and I are speaking to a lawyer... Can you say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!!
Purchased new 2009 Hyundai Azera Limited. Tired of being misrouted by the factory navigation system, I tried to order new map software from MapnSoft following the instructions in the Owners Manual. MapnSoft wrote back that the radio you have is manufactured by LG and the contract between Hyundai and LG ended 2 years ago... we do not have any update to offer and we do not foresee being able to provide an update in the near future. I called Hyundai Customer Service and was told they couldnt do anything and to see a Hyundai dealer because I bought the car from a dealer. (What in the world is wrong with that logic?) Ive seen similar complaints on the Azera forum from 2009 and 2010 Azera owners and I think its wrong for Hyundai to prematurely end the contract they had to keep their navigation systems up to date.
I bought a brand-new Hyundai Tucson 2014 with 83 miles. After 4 months and a torrential rain all my books in the left-rear passenger side floorboard, were soaked. I went to the Decatur Alabama dealership and they cleaned the water out. Long story short the Hyundai dealership has (1) replaced seals around the door, (2) sealed the roof railings, (3) resealed the roof railings. (4) the Hyundai Motor Corporation called in LEAK PRO guaranteed 1 yr not to leak. 11 months later after torrential rains, the back floorboard left passenger side was full of water. I have sent a certified Alabama Lemon Law letter and called BBB Auto Line asking for replacement. I know one person with the same issue with the same results. Anyone else out there? May go to arbitration. I am waiting on Hyundai to call me.
Engine in my 2011 Hyundai Veracruz SUV blew up at less then 6,000 miles on the odometer. Leaving my wife and 20 year-old daughter stranded in West Virginia while in route to Savannah, Georgia.
PLEASE read this before you go purchase a vehicle from Hyundai Vacaville. My husband and I researched the new Hyundai Veloster and decided it was something we were interested in, the only problem was that to even look at one we would have to take the drive out to Vacaville, we were greeted by Dean and took the only one on the lot for a test drive. We fell in love with it, the next step was agreeing on a price. We played the haggling game (I did my research). We came to an agreement and up next was FINANCE. Let me start by saying we have excellent credit so this next step wasnt a concern, unfortunately we sat down with the shadiest crooked finance guy (GREG **). Im aware of the stuff they try to push on you i.e. extra maintenance, Gap and paint protection, we just wanted the car. We did opt for the car paint protection because as Greg put it its only $4 a month. Move forward less than 24 hours later we spoke to Dean from the dealership and said we changed our mind about the paint protection and would like it removed from the contract, Dean informed us that Greg was not in, but hes let him know and get back to me. Fast forward to Wednesday, no return call from Dean, I called and spoke to Dean direly and asked again about removing the added OPTIONAL paint protection, he said he spoke to Greg and it was too late. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE, I called less than 24 hours after. After many phone calls to Hyundai customer service I got nowhere. I decided to read through all my paperwork, lo and behold GREG ** not only were we stuck with the paint protection he also added GAP coverage, I specifically told him we would be paying off the car, why would I need GAP. Fortunately for me I caught it in time but the process to get it removed will not be easy. Long story short PLEASE take the extra time to go through every page of your paperwork and dont let anyone like GREG ** bully you into signing for any extras. May your next car buying experience be a happy one.
I just like to have a horrible nightmare story with my Hyundai Sonata 2005 in last 2 years. I desperately need your legal helps, suggestions and comments. On 02/22/2012, My Sonata 2005 just past 70,914 Miles and I was suggested by young guy name ** to change my Timing Belt and etc. I spent $967.43 to let Lehigh Valley, PA Hyundai Service Center done the job. At that point, my car just have a tire issue. After 2 weeks, I hear some noise when I first time start car. I called **. He told me because it’s new belt and Id better to tolerant it. At April, I still hear noise and little bit loud. I call them again. They let me left the car with them several days. They wrote it down as they cant find any problem and adjust timing belt little. They sold me about annual State Inspection package this time. After that, I changed Spark Plug and Engine Oil with top line product myself in the same year. I always use Hyundai Genuine Oil and Air Filters once day one and do this maintenance job myself when I purchased the car as brand new one. I tolerant this problem several months and called them again. They still tell me the same answer. I was so busy for my job and life. I cant always let them keep my car for several days to find nothing.On 04/08/2013 at 88,055 miles, I hear a belt broken sound while I am driving on I-78 and engine is completely shut down. I called them ask for road assistant and was told to paid for towing or solve myself. I managed myself to get their place. They told me that I have to pay myself for the repairs. After several days, they called and informed me that they found the engine was broken. They will cover for these repairs. In last year, I already talk to totally different Manager and Service Reps. They also told me that they had difficult to find replace engine. Until 05/01/2013, I was called for the job done.I changed engine oil with Hyundai Genuine Oil Filter and 5 Gallon Castrol High Mileage 10W40 myself last summer. And I wish I can keep this car for another 5 years. However, I notice in Nov. the oil check light sometimes flashing in an barely occasion while I drive on highway ramp and stop at traffic. Im NOT pay too much attention about this issue. I know if I call them, they will keep my car for several days and find nothing. Thats about their service and skills.Last month of 8th, I try to pull my car from heavy snow in dark evening and the car start as normal and was NOT working after several times back and forth to pull out. With several light on, I can start the car at all. I give up my efforts to drive car out in that evening. I called my job off in second morning and try to start it again. It was OK and out of from the snow. I immediately drive to LV Hyundai Service Center and notice that the engine check light is solid ON while I stop at traffic. They call me afternoon and tell me they cant find any engine oil in my car and the engine is broken again and ask me about engine oil and filter purchase receipts. I usually dont keep these small purchase receipt for my normal life. However, I can show them my a couple of old replacement Hyundai Genuine Oil Filters in my garage. I bring two used filter and one air filter. I argue with them NO CAR should running under engine oil while my gas tank is 80% full. Your engine has a big design defect. You should repair or replace it again under your all your warranty claims and consumer protection laws. I talk to them back and forth several time already. They still refuse to do so. I dont have my car for more than one month. Please help me if you all can. Thank you very much in advance.
My window washer system has failed three times. After taking it to Jon Hall Hyundai for two times, now when I pour the window washer in the reservoir, it leaks right out. Now the dealer is making me wait over a week for a third warranty appointment. I called the corporate office, and they took my complaint, but they said it would take three to four business days before they will contact me. That’s about as long as the dealer is making me wait to try and fix my problem for the third time.
My engine light came on when the car had about 70000 km. I checked and no oil. I towed the car in and after a week, Streetsville Hyundai told me that it was the oil pump building up pressure and forcing all the oil out of the engine. They assured me that replacing it will solve the problem. BTW, during this repair, I was also told that the alternator belt and the steering belt were all cracked and needs replacement at my cost. I have never heard of this happening in a car that is only 3 years old. 2 weeks later I noticed the car had problem picking up speed while changing gear and would rev to 5-6K before kicking in. 3 days later, the engine light came on again and no oil again. This time apparently the whole engine needs to be replaced because something in it is completely broken when they took the engine apart. After taking my whole car apart for diagnostic, I was told that my clutch was also completely burned out because I was riding the clutch. This is my third standard cars. The first one lasted 11 years with almost 200 K without a new clutch. The second one was 8 years old with 160K when I traded in without ever changing clutch. They are machining my flywheel and changing only the clutch disk and wanted to charge me $500 for parts only. First of all, I am convinced that my driving habits were not responsible for the clutch burning and second parts only should not come anywhere close to $500. I am sure that the problem was caused by the engine. I checked and learned that if there is oil on the clutch, it can cause slippage and burn my clutch. Still arguing with Hyundai warranty. I have to agree with everyone that Hyundai warranty service is not very helpful at all when you call them to address the issue.
Major problems from the start. Gear shift stopped working- froze in park- covered by recall. Steering column locked and had to replace. Our expense. Electrical issues - brake lights would not turn off. Now the engine failed. Burns oil and rod knock with no warning. No oil light ever came on. Told by dealer we need a new engine - was told problem is because we did not change oil regularly. Hyundai refuses to cover because I cannot produce every oil/filter receipt (sometimes had private oil change). They said it would cost $5-7000 to replace. Had it towed home and we are trying to decide what to do. Found out online there is an investigation into class action suit for engine failure by Chimicles & Tikellis. Will NEVER buy Hyundai again and will NOT RECOMMEND.
Although I love my car, I have to say without question, DO NOT BUY OR LEASE HYUNDAI CARS. On November 26, 2016 I leased a 2017 Hyundai and turned in my 2014 Hyundai to the local Hyundai dealer. My lease payment went up about nine dollars a month. My bank inadvertently sent the new payment to the 2014 account instead of the new 2017 car account. I received a collection call on a Sunday saying I was two weeks passed due. I paid it again on the phone and started to check out why they did not receive it. When I called Hyundai Finance approximately six weeks after turning in the 2014 they said they had the extra money but were keeping it until the 2014 car closes out. MY BANK SENT THE MONEY IN ERROR. It is now nine weeks since I turned in the car and they still have my money. I will never buy a Hyundai product again even though it is a great car and I am now on my second Hyundai. I have checked with Mission Hills Hyundai, a terrific dealer, who is trying to get Hyundai to send me my refund. They keep apologizing however I still am out the money. The Hyundai Finance people are extremely hard to deal with. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI PRODUCT!
Painting problem of Hyundai Sonata 2009 - I bought a Hyundai Sonata Limited on September 26, 2009 and I have been driving this car since then. On February 19, 2012, I discovered that the painting of my car was peeling off on the roof, hood and side of the car. The paint is peeling off in large layers not small portion. My car currently has 66,000 miles and is approximately two years old. I regularly check and change oil in my car every three months in Hyundai in McKinney, Texas. I wanted to solve the problem of my cars paint so I went the dealership in McKinney, TX where I bought my car. After discussing the problem, they suggested going to the Hyundai body. I went to the Hyundai body shop in Plano Texas. They estimated $1,948 for painting repair. The dealership said that I would have to pay to repair out of my pocket. It has been past warranty.I then contracted the Hyundai Consumer Affair about my cars problems and they too stated that my car was past warranty so it is my responsibility to pay for painting. My car has not been in an accident or has experienced any environmental factors that would cause the paint to peel. Before I bought my car, the car was driven by a dealership manager for a while who put approximately 5,000 miles on it. There were many of lock chip spots on the car and the paint was peeling off numerous places. I wanted to buy the car so dealership promised to fix the paint and sell it to me. I bought the car with the paint problem fixed. In my analysis, when Hyundai fixed the paint, they did not use quality paint or the paint that was already on the car was poor quality. The car once again has problems of peeling paint. I strongly believe that Hyundai has responsibility to fix the paint on my car.I understand that Hyundai set the rule to apply the warranty, however, I have not driven the car for three years yet. This paint problem is clearly a defect caused by the car manufacturer. I do not think I have a responsibility to fix the paint on my car because it is not even a three-year old car and the problem is the quality of the paint on the car. Hyundai must to provide quality customer service and provide quality manufactured vehicles to sell to the customers. It was my understanding that when I purchased the vehicles from Hyundai that I would receive both. Therefore, it is Hyundais responsibility to correct the paint problems on the car since I have not caused the paint to peel.
Faulty Caliper Pins on 2012 Accent: Long story short, I had Merchants Tire in Warrenton look at my brakes because of awful noise. They showed me the gouge in the rotor from where the brake pad wore because of a faulty caliper pin. They stated there should be no reason for this caliper pin to be broken and the pad to wear unevenly. They called Browns Manassas Hyundai and conferred with one of their mechanics. He also seemed to think it was a factory defect and under warranty. They suggested bringing it in and confirming the issue. I made an appointment for 3:30 the next day. At noon, they called and said the service station was closed and they set up an appointment at Fairfax Hyundai. I drove my car 45 miles out to Fairfax where I was treated like a stupid girl and spoken to as if I were an ignorant child. They said it would take at least 2 hours before they could look at it. I left with my ride and half way home, I received a call from the service department. They stated that the brake pads were worn evenly but needed changed, the rotors needed turned and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the calipers. It would cost around $400-$450 to fix. This completely contradicted Merchants (who have known me for the past 8 years). I am fed up with the runaround so I contacted a supervisor, Gustavo, at Hyundai Customer Service. He assured me that it sounded suspicious and he would call Fairfax.On my way back to picking up my car, which I instructed them NOT TO TOUCH, Fairfax Hyundai calls me to say, “It does seem to be a caliper issue but its just dirty and we can clean it. But you do need pads and rotors. We can fix it but it will cost you. I spent the last half hour trying to DIG the brake pad out of the rotor with a screw driver!” WHAT? A SCREW DRIVER DIGGING A BRAKE PAD OUT OF MY ROTOR? I was just told the rotors were fine, no scratches and worn evenly and now they are digging something out of them. I am beyond irate and disgusted. Going on 2 weeks now and car is still not fixed. On top of that, they are having to reimburse consumers because of the misquoted mpg.
In January of this year (2017) I was on my way home from hockey when my engine failed. I was just turning onto the highway and beginning my acceleration when the engine just about stalled. I was only thankfully doing about 30 km/hr and put the vehicle into neutral and pulled over to the shoulder. I shut the engine off and got under the hood for visual inspection. Upon checking the Oil there was barely any registering on the dipstick (oil is checked during every refuel). Thankfully I carry 2 litres with me at all times. It took both of these to register on dipstick. I turned the engine back on and with no warning lights and smoother running engine, I carried on my way home keeping speeds less than 70 km/hr as the immediate lack of oil concerned me.About 5 minutes from home both engine and oil warning lights came on, and the vehicle was beginning to run rough again. Once home I again checked my oil and this time there was nothing on the dipstick. I left the vehicle in my garage until appointment at my Hyundai dealer. I do my own oil changes every 5,000 km with recommended full synthetic 5w30. The only leak I have ever found was a very small one around oil pan. The dealer inspected and concluded I require a new lower block and that without my receipts they wont honor the warranty.Having done some research online in days between failure and dealer appointment I found multiple accounts of the same failure happening, some within less than a 1,000 kms of having factory dealer oil change done. So when my service informed of no warranty coverage I asked how is that the cause of my failure and others too. Was given a shrug... So the quote for repairs was well beyond my financial means, having lost my job. The dealer had no additional options for me and left me feeling blamed and written off.Then out comes the 1.4 million vehicle recall outlining the possible failure that I experienced in January. I contacted Hyundai Customer service via email April 8, 2017, they responded with a question April 10, I replied and now all I can get is an auto-reply message. I called on April 12, and was told that my VIN falls within the date range affected and that was about it. Asked if I should contact dealer again and was told up to me. I have been without my vehicle since the failure occurred and now without any answers.
2013 Hyundai Veloster: I felt compelled to submit this review because of a recent experience Ive had with the brand that has left a bad taste in my mouth, and in the interest of transparency, should be shared so this doesnt happen to another consumer. In 2012 my parents were looking to buy me a car as a graduation gift (in cash), and we looked at Volkswagen, Hyundai, Jeep, Ford. At the time Hyundai was heavily marketing the 10-year warranty, so we decided to look into purchasing a Hyundai, as this was a major differentiator and benefit from the other brands.My parents ended up working w/ a local dealer in Maryland, who helped locate and purchase an Veloster for me. The entire time, the dealer was aware that the car was being purchased for me. Since it was a gift, I was not at the dealer at the time of sale, and my mother put her name on the title (this is an important detail for later). It was never stipulated that only having her name (and not mine) could be a potential issue, as she was NOT purchasing the car for herself.Flash forward 6 years and I move to the west coast. Right after moving my car, I get it registered in California and transfer the title from my mother so I can pay my own insurance. Dec17 at 55k miles Im hearing a horrendous screech coming out of my wheels, and I find out its a defective wheel bearing (should last 100k). At the dealer they dont mention that this would be covered under my 10-year warranty, because my warranty expired at 50k. This sets off major red flags, as the front wheel bearings are part of drive train, and should be covered under the 10-year/100k mile warranty - I know something isnt right.I call corporate (1st time) and find out that the warranty on my car was just invalidated when I transferred the title, because I moved the car title under my name i/o leaving it under my mothers, which immediately invalidated the 10 year warranty (Ive had this car for 6 years/55k miles). This is a major stipulation that was not presented at the dealer when the car was being sold to my parents (this car was purchased solely for that warranty), so I call the dealer to discuss this issue as it originated w/ them, and they refer me back to corporate. I call corporate again (2nd time) and end up talking to a customer rep who was incredibly condescending and rude, challenging why I would be questioning my warranty (because my car is having issues that should be covered), etc., and was just generally nasty the entire time.I finally ask to talk to his manager, who he says will call within 24-48 hours - wont give me a name or a time (no one ever calls - I hope this conversation was recorded). I call the dealer (2nd time) and explain that corporate is not at all standing behind this, and that the dealer needs to get involved since their salespeople sold the car, and theyre the originators of this issues. Long-short, theyre doing their best to defer and stay uninvolved, saying that theyre not responsible for anything at the time of sale involving warranty. In a situation like this, a brand that stands behind what they market, and a brand that supports and values their customers would simply HONOR THE TERMS the car was marketed and sold as, and move on. Instead, what Ive found is a brand that seizes on the opportunity to shirk away from what was promised at first opportunity, both at corporate as well as at the dealer.I hadnt had an issue with Hyundai before this, but this entire experience has left a terrible mark on the brand for me. In a lifetime youll buy on average 5 cars, and I can confidently say it will never be a Hyundai again, and I recommend no one else does. Dont be duped by the marketing of a 10-year warranty - it sounds too good to be true, and it is. I regret not buying the Jeep.
I would like to tell you about the service I received Hyundai in Downingtown, PA. I recently took my 2013 Hyundai Tucson for an oil change and state inspection which I was impress of how quickly it was taken care of. They provided great service and I was happy to return for more service. Due to a poor wheel alignment the service department had recommended that I replace my rear driver tire so that my car can pass inspection. When I left the dealership I heard a loud noise from the back tires. At first I thought it was from a wheel alignment that they recommended I needed. During the week, I notice the noise getting much louder to the point where I felt it was unsafe to drive. I went online to see if there was an appointment available but there wasnt so I decided to go to my local Firestone to get a second opinion. I described the noise and how a wheel alignment was recommended. During their inspection, they discovered that my new tire that was replaced by Hyundai was extremely loose and only hand tighten. I am so disappointed because I really thought I received great service especially being the end of the day but instead my life was at risk. I seen it for myself how the lugs were only hand tighten and the wheel shook by touch. This is my second Hyundai vehicle and second Hyundai dealership that Ive dealt with and I was never disappointed until now. I was able to speak to the service manager which he kindly took the time to see the vehicle. In return of risking my life he offered a complimentary oil change and to speak with the mechanic who worked on my vehicle because apparently thats what my life is worth. I will never trust the service of Hyundai again. I can only hope they will learn from this situation so that other customers will not be at risk.
My wife and I purchased an Elantra back in 2013, Due to credit issues we have high interest rate and high car payment and a term for 7 years. At the time, we were desperate and needed a car. Its been over 6 years and we have less than 18 months. We owe less than 8000 on the car. Hyundai is doing everything they can to repo the car. If its note is not paid on the day. They call and call, threatening us with repossession. They Repo the car once when it was only 20 days late, after a commitment to pay was made. The last time I called to make a commitment to pay, they were heartless and telling me to borrow the money from someone. The were not this aggressive until we paid down the vehicle.
I have a 2009 Santa Fe with 40,000 miles. While driving 8 hours in the rain on a road trip, the paint started flying off my hood and roof in huge chunks. I have never had an accident or a chip in the paint. The repair shop called to report they are having problems fixing the original paint loss because more keeps coming off. Now it looks like a complete new paint job will be required. Hyundai says the warranty is up at 35,000 miles for paint. The paint job is obviously defective from the factory; however my attempt to file a claim with Hyundai led nowhere. I leased a brand new a launch array in January 2019. I turn the air conditioning on for the first time in May 2019. The car had 1500 miles on it. And the air-conditioner did not work. I took it in for service and at first they told me something went through the front grill and destroyed. I leased a brand new Elantra in January 2019. Since there was no evidence of anything flying through the front grill and there was no damage to my radiator the story changed and apparently it ricocheted and caused damage to the condenser.Hyundai deemed it a non-warranty issue. Now I’m going to be charged $800 to fix it. I even took it to a different repair shop to ask their opinion. Those guys said they had no idea how this damage could have been caused without any evidence of any damage to anything else. Hyundai claims to have the best warranty in the industry. In my experience it’s all BS! I think somebody dropped the condenser and installed it anyway so that they could meet their quota. I will never buy another Hyundai again!
Problems w/ Hybrid batt, charging system since the day I bought it. Poor fuel mileage, rated 57-59 mpg, actual 31-52 mpg. Brake peddle noise at 6,000 miles, noisy a/c fan at 15000. In shop 6 times in 1 1/2 years to diagnosis/repair, no help. Coil failure (car towed to shop) at 20,000.5 case #s opened. Requested buyback several times, they refused it. Case c/s reps. Rude, condescending & dismissive! Maryland lemon law complaint filed, in process. Will never buy a Hyundai product again!
