Please put signal/turn lights on the taillights and not just the back bumper. Other drivers are used to seeing blinkers right on tail lights and not on the bumper. I understand this key point makes Hyundai different from other car brands, but I feel the location of blinkers should be universal for all cars regardless of the brand for safety reasons.
I bought a 2020 Tuscan Ultimate on Saturday 5/23/2020 from Crain Hyundai Fayetteville and the salesman could not find the navigation SD card and said come back Tuesday and we will have have it for you. I came back on Tuesday and they had one but it didnt fit. He said, I will have to order you one and when you bring your car in for the window tint I will have one. Well took it in last Friday and no SD card. Asked about it and was told they would try and find one if they can. At that point am up set and contact Hyundai directly for one. They give me the navigation company number to call and I did. They were willing to sell me another one. I said no thank you. I want the one I already bought. I called Hyundai consumer affairs back and talked to a case manager named Vanilla and she stated she called the sales manager and he would take care of it and that was all Hyundai was willing to do. 3 week after I bought my Car still no navigation or Blue link due to navigation not working. I filed a Better business bureau claim and got a call from the customer relations manager from the dealership. Found out the SD cad was never ordered and that he personally would make sure it was done. Bottom line Hyundai didnt care and to me it will be the last one I buy. Hope I will get the cars features working one day as they should.
Car lost power while driving down the interstate and engine started to run very roughly. Took it to the closest dealership on my next day off who called me the NEXT day to tell me that I could come and get the car, but its not fixed because they dont have a fault code to be able to fix an issue, even though they can clearly see that the car isnt running correctly. Car is still under warranty, but wont run, and Im supposed to just bring it home??? Does that make any sense to you?? IDIOTS! Then the service advisor goes as far as to try and sell me a tune-up... ON A CAR THAT WONT RUN! RIDICULOUS!Customer care, not much help there either. They tell me a manager will contact me in 3 to 5 business days. I also bought an extended warranty that NO ONE CAN FIND under my VIN #. How does that work? Every other manufacturer has always been able to see my warranty info listed by the VIN#.... why not Hyundai? All this sounds like HUGE runaround tactics to me. You got me once Hyundai, but never again. Should have stuck to HONDA, Ive had 3 of them and never any issues. Very dissatisfied.
We were carefully followed an advertised special and confirmed the information very precisely with the sales agent so as not to waste our time. But once we were at the dealership in Houston we were extremely disappointed and sickened by repeatedly being lied to by every level of the dealership. This is not a good company. Their policy is not honest and is very tricky and trying to avoid fulfilling the offers they make. We are not easily fooled but they tried very hard to say one thing and do another. You would be better off avoiding this company altogether! We are really very shocked and would like to prevent anyone from wasting their precious time by believing Hyundai is trustworthy!
I slid off the road and called roadside assistance. I had been pulled out about a month ago, also. This time they said they would not pay for being pulled out. We have had a severe winter and have had a lot of ice and snow. On the Hyundai advertising it says, 5 years unlimited roadside assistance, with 24/7, 365 day service. The roadside assistance representative said they recently changed their rules. (Almost a year after I purchased my 2013 Sonata) I talked to representative **. She never told me what rule they changed. I told her they couldnt change the rules retroactively. She said they could and did so. She referred me to the towing service subcontractors. (Cross Country Motor Club) The motor club informed me that the car had to be less than 10 feet from the road, to be pulled back onto the road. I asked him who made that new rule and they could not tell me that. I told them that if a car slid into the ditch, it would be 10 feet from the highway 90% of the time, and that would make roadside assistance unusable 90% of the time. I threatened to go public to the internet and also press a possible lawsuit. My car is well within the 10-foot rule. They still refused. I’m handicapped and a senior citizen. The roadside assistance was a major reason why I purchased the car. Now, Hyundai is going back on their word. I started to call my dealer and before I could talk to him, a towing company called and said they would be at my place within 2 hours. I called the towing company and asked if Hyundai was paying for it and they said yes. Hyundai previously said they would call to get me help, but I would be charged $170.00. I dont think that any customer should put up with a company that treats its customer in the above manner.
Approx. 6 weeks ago, the brakes in my 2009 Sonata failed. I brought the car to my mechanic and he replaced the rear brakes. Two weeks later, the same thing happened. I had the front brakes replaced. Again, 2 weeks later, I slid through a red light because the brakes failed yet again. I had the car towed to the nearest Hyundai dealer. They informed me that they found nothing wrong with the brakes until I told them that I would not drive that car. So, they had better look again. Miraculously, 10 minutes later, they found that the caliper was broken and blamed it on the mechanic that replaced my brakes. So now, it was not under warranty. I paid the bill of $413.54 to replace the part. Not quite 2 weeks later, the car was making a very loud screeching sound -- like metal on metal. I had the car towed to the Nemet dealership where I originally purchased the vehicle. The mechanic, Jeff, told me that I needed new back brakes. When I tried to explain the entire situation, he did not want to hear it, and he told me that what happened at the other dealership did not matter, kind of like McDonalds is a chain of stores owned by different people, so is the Hyundai dealerships.He also informed me that I would be charged $625.00 to replace the back brakes again and if I did not want to pay, I should take the car back to the mechanic that did the brakes originally.I paid for a tow truck to take the car to Nemet, and again, to pick it up from Nemet to be brought to my mechanic. He replaced the left caliper that had already been replaced by Advantage Hyundai! That’s another $221.02 spent! I was livid, so I called Nemet and explained to the salesman what was going on again. He told me to bring the car into his dealership and when I got it back, they would work something out with me. On Saturday, 9/3 I, took the car to the Nemet dealership . Anthony, the salesman and the sales manager tried to put me in a smaller vehicle -- the Hyundai Elantra. I requested another down payment, and they wanted me to sign another 5 year payment plan! They informed me that my warranty had been voided when I took my car to a certified mechanic to have the brakes done and not to a Hyundai dealership. I was not looking to use my car a trade. I wanted to be treated fairly.Two years ago, I paid a down payment on a car that I thought would last me a good long time. Now, I find that this product is not backed by the company that sells it. This is the 3rd Hyundai I have purchased through Nemet.I do want a new vehicle that is comparable to the one I bought, not smaller. I already paid 2 years of a loan. Why should I have to start over when I have only 3 years left on a vehicle that is defective? I dont feel I should have to pay another down payment, or a higher monthly payment and I should not have to pay for more than 3 years!I called the dealership (Nemet) when I returned home and asked for the name of the CEO and was told that the CEO died. And then I requested to speak with the General Manager. She asked what was it in reference to and told me to hold on. She came back on the phone and asked for my name. When I told her who it was, all of a sudden Scott ** was unavailable to speak with me, when I know he was there for a meeting with his sales staff that morning because I had to wait for the sales person!The advertisement reads “our customers are number 1”. Really, when does that apply?
I was told that I would get towed within an hour. I called 2 times to see why they hadnt showed up. Each time they said it would be another hour. 3 1/2 hours later the tow truck arrived. He said that he just received the call. I asked if AAA would have been quicker, and he said yes that I would have gotten help right away.
We purchased a new 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The car is still under warranty. In 2020 my wife called and said the oil light was on. I told her to pull over and check the oil. She said there was no oil on the stick. She added two quarts of oil and it was still below the low mark on the stick. I did research and found several class action lawsuits against Hyundai regarding faulty engines dating back to approx. 2010. Here we are 8 years later and dealing with the same issue. We called our dealership and they said we needed bring in the car for an oil consumption test. They changed the oil and charged us for it. The oil consumption test consist of returning to the dealership every thousand miles for 3000 miles so they can check how much oil the engine is using. The final result was the engine burns 3/4 quarts of oil per 1000 miles and that is considered normal by Hyundai.Hyundai recommends changing oil every 7500 miles. This means we will need to add 6 quarts of oil to the car between oil changes. Again this car is under warranty and Hyundai calls this normal. We were told however, Hyundai does sell a $600 product we could add to the oil and perhaps it would consume less oil. The bottom line is I have a car under warranty, using 6 quarts of oil between oil changes and this is normal. My 2006 Chrysler Town and Country has 314,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 7000 miles. I add 1 quart of oil between oil changes.Simply put, do not buy a Hyundai product. Take a look on the internet and you will see a long history of engine issues that continue to plague Hyundai owners. I called Hyundai and talked to Lindsay. She was a snobby customer service rep. who told me I needed to talk to Walser to get anything done to repair this car. So goes the circle. Keep an eye open as I assume there will be another class action suite soon.
Driving a new 2019 Tuscon Elite AWD. Car is good but had a alignment/steering issue from day one. Issue was addressed after four attempts and four months, although at a Ford Dealership. No issue with vehicle or even local dealerships. Issue for me is with the parent support team in CA. After months of steering issue finally opened a case with Hyundai Corporate. Cutting to chase, the folks in corporate are rude, did zero to help or expedite addressing issue and essentially deflected any liability what-so-ever. They opened a case I thought to help me, then never followed up, returned calls, answered emails - absolutely nothing! So again decent SUV, great value, but absolutely the 100% worst national customer support line Ive ever had the dissatisfaction of working with. If you a like a good value, then Hyundai is a safe bet. If if you also like a fair and open OEM who is concerned with customer feedback with new car issues, then run as fast as you can from Hyundai based on this writers firsthand experience.
My biggest complaint has nothing to do with the vehicle. I love the car I purchased, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited however, it turns out that Hyundai USA is downright incompetent. Be warned, that if you are considering purchasing a Hyundai try giving their customer service line a call to get a feel for what youre in for. Oh, and absolutely positively make sure you get an owners manual!!! Just trust me, when you drive off the lot you are on your own.
Hyundai wont credit a months lease payment even though my vehicle is in for engine repairs for over a month and the clock is still ticking. I leased a 2012 Genesis R-spec. Around 12,000 miles, I started hearing intermittent engine knocking. When I took the car in for service, a service specialist said there is no issue and any engine issues would be covered by a warranty. 5,000 miles later, the engine knocking was happening all the time above 2,500 RPM or under acceleration or driving up a hill. When I took the car in for service, the service specialist said yes, this engine knocking. Five weeks later, Im still without my Genesis. Apparently, Hyundai doesnt know how to maintain a parts supply chain very well. Besides the engine problem, there are other design problems with the car: seats with very poor support that become very noticeable on a long drive; too much play in the steering wheel which at high speeds can be a bit dangerous since there can be an abrupt jerk of the wheel; and a transmission that doesnt always know when to shift. As a previous owner of Mercedes, BMW and Lexus, I will surely think twice about owning a Hyundai again.
I purchased a 2005 Hyundai XG350 from the dealer. The airbag light came on shortly after I go the car. The car has been back to the dealer approximately 15 times for service as the light comes back on shortly after every repair. While the dealer has done everything they know how to do, Hyundai will not acknowledge a widespread problem the airbag systems in this car.
I purchased a new 2011 Hyundai Sonata from Cocoa Hyundai in Cocoa Beach, FL. At the time, I was driving a 2008 Suzuki SX-4. I was looking to trade it in due to the warranty expiring and it having high miles. Originally, I had come in asking for the Elantra, as it was in the same size category. I got there and test drove the Elantra and thought it was ok, very fuel efficient. I then test drove the Sonata and immediately fell in love with it. The interior is very roomy. It also feels better when you drive it. I then worked up a deal with the dealership. At the time, I had very good credit. Looking back at the total cost of the vehicle, I dont believe I got such a great deal after all. The only reason I purchased there was because I had a friend of mine working at the dealer. He assured me he would take care of me and give me a great deal. Finally, after 2 1/2 hours of negotiating with the salesman, we came to an agreement on the price and monthly payment. It was more than I was wanting to spend; my monthly payment jumped up about an extra $125 a month. I told my wife we would make it work out somehow as we both really liked the vehicle. I would just cut back on things. We drove the vehicle home and were happy. 2 months after purchasing the vehicle, we received a notice in the mail saying there was recalls on it. We called the Closest dealer to our home which was Universal Hyundai in Orlando, FL and scheduled an appointment. We arrived to this dealer just to see a bunch of people standing around doing nothing. It took nearly 15 minutes for someone to finally acknowledge us. They told us they had no records of us even being in their service log. I guess someone had dropped the ball. They said theyll squeeze us in anyways. They told us the car would not be ready for several days as they did not have the parts available. I told them that was fine, but I didnt have transportation to work, as this is my main form of transportation. They said, Well, we have rental cars which are $40 a day. I told them I should not have to pay for something that is not my fault and the warranty should cover it. Finally, after arguing with the Service Manager for nearly a half hour, he said they would comp the rental fee. I picked up my car several days later and they handed me a bill for nearly $300. I told them the warranty should cover all this. They reviewed it and found it to be an error on their part. Since this experience, I have visited the dealer on numerous occasions for servicing. It has always been an ongoing issue for us. We also attempted to purchase a new vehicle, at the same dealer, for my wife back in November 2012. When we arrived, we were greeted by a gentleman, dont remember his name. He was quick to get us inside for a credit application. Didnt even allow us to test drive a car and figure out what we liked. After seeing that my wife did not have perfect credit, but fair credit, he then passed us over to a younger gentleman and said he had his appointment show up. It was an older couple that appeared to be well off. The younger gentlemen walked us around the car lot like lost puppies for about 20 minutes not knowing what type of car we wanted. My wife was looking for a smaller SUV like the Tucson and he began to show us the Elantra and the Accent. These are Hyundais more smaller, compact vehicles. My wife quickly spoke and said to him, Why are you showing us these cars? He said, Well this is within your budget and your credit. We had not even given him our budget. I told him we were looking at SUVs. That is what we told the other salesman. He said he told him to show us these cars. At this point, my wife became angry and said, Lets get out of here. These guys dont know what theyre doing. I told her to relax, lets at least get a test drive in before leaving. We test drove multiple vehicles and my wife really liked the Tucson. After this, we told him to work out some numbers. Told him we did not want to pay more than $400. He comes at us with $520 a month with $2000 down. I told him that would not work. He said, Well, theres the door if you dont like it. I looked at my wife and I was like wow, this is how they treat customers. We left very disappointed that day. Finally, this year, we had gone out Christmas shopping for the day. After doing our shopping, we came back to find that our Sonata was not starting. We checked the battery, even tried to get a jump start, but still nothing. After about an hour of exhausting all my options, I saw that there was a Tire Kingdom nearby. I pushed the car all the way to the lot. After speaking to the tech, he noticed the battery cable was loose, so he tightened it up. I was praying that it may have been the problem. We tried starting the car again and still got nothing. Finally, he told me there is something wrong with the starter. He recommended me contacting Hyundai because it would be about a $600 job. I then called Hyundai roadside assistance. They sent a tow truck to pickup my car. I was a good 25 miles from home. It was later in the evening so I asked them to tow it to the dealer closest to my home, again Universal Hyundai. I called and spoke to service department and they advised me to put the key in the afterhours drop box and fill out the form; I did. The next morning, I received a call from a service advisor and told me it would be $110 just to diagnose my car not including any repairs. My mileage was at 61k, the warranty had just ended at 60k. I asked him to help me out, but He said the warranty is pretty cut and dry, there was nothing anyone could do once you go over 60. I told him I guess I have no choice I needed the car fixed. He called me up about 2 hours later and told me it was the cable that connected the starter that was loose. Im thinking great, maybe it will be cheap repair since its just a cable not the starter. He quoted me a price of $340. I was so shocked to find this out. Right now is probably the worst time for something like this to happen, especially during the holidays. I had to gather up some cash and borrow money from family members just to cover this as I did not have a choice in the matter. I need my vehicle to get to work and back. He said the car would work with just this connection, but I could replace the whole starter if I wanted to. I picked up my car and looked at the invoice to see the part was $13.82, with $280 worth of labor fees, something that probably took less than 10 minutes to fix. The service advisor also told me there was an issue also with the steering column, something the warranty did not cover either. I was like what. He said the repair with parts and labor would be around a $1300 job. The warranty does not cover this. I contacted the service manager as a last resort and got nowhere, just the runaround. The service manager kept pointing the blame at Hyundai. He advised me to contact Hyundai customer support. I quickly called Hyundai and spoke with a person by the name of Fran. I explained the story once again to her and informed her that my warranty was over by a thousand miles and she looked to see if there may have been any recalls on my vehicle for any repairs. She did not find any, just ones that had already been repaired on my vehicle. She clearly stated without the warranty, there is nothing that can be done. I explained my frustration and told her I have had nothing but issues with this vehicle from the time I purchased it. She said, Let me get my case manager on the line, so you could speak with them. I waited for several minutes and a person by the name John came on the line. He was very cold and monotone in the way he spoke to me. He just confirmed once again what Fran had said about the warranty and was quick to point finger back at the dealer. I told him I have already contacted the dealer and they are pointing the blame on Hyundai. I told him Somebody has to step up to the plate and get this taken care of. This was something that was going on prior to the warranty expiring. He said there was nothing he can do, but just contact the dealer on my behalf and see if they will do it as a courtesy, or good will to not lose a customer. He said the turnaround time for this is 3 days. I told 3 days is unacceptable. He said it may not take a whole 3 days, that is the time frame. At this point, I was livid and just said thats fine. He called me the next day and said, I cant help nor can the dealer. I told him this will be the last time I ever purchase a Hyundai. I called back again and spoke with several other people and all of them had nasty attitudes with me. I guess they must made an extensive file about me being upset. This will be my last time buying a Hyundai. I guess the parts they use on their vehicles are only designed to last up to 60k miles. After that, youre pretty much on your own. I know Suzuki doesnt make cars anymore in the US, but I drove 2 new Suzuki’s for well over 90k miles and never had a problem. Boy, I wish Suzuki was still in the US. Id be getting rid of this car in a jiffy. I guess this was a hard lesson learned, but I will just try and finish paying it off, then trade it in.

As of November, the Hyundai company has not paid off my Honda vehicle. Honda company has been calling, harassing me and send me letters of late payments. My credit is getting ruined because of this matter.
In short: Hyundai has come a long way. As a Honda loyalist, I was nervous about choosing a brand with a history of reliability issues. I test drove every Hybrid sold in the US and much to my surprise, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid came out on top of the many categories I laid out for myself. Hyundai really took the time to design the ergonomics, style, feature-set, and accommodations for this car, which I fell in love with. My dealer made buying one simple, straightforward, and pressure-free.In Detail: CABIN: After driving the gamut of hybrids available in the US (Fusion, Prius [+ IV, C & V], Civic, Avalon, Camry, Accord, Volt, Crosstrek, CR-Z, C-Max...) I was finally talked into at least test driving the Sonata Hybrid. My partner had a 2012 Sonata that was recently totaled, (air bags deployed, driver and passenger safe and unharmed) that we both liked a lot, so I put my brand loyalty and pride aside to appease this silly recommendation. I got in and almost immediately fell in love (with the cabin, at least). Bluetooth connectivity, Pioneer audio w/ subwoofer, 8 screen, automatic dual-zone climate control, 4 in-dash LCD screen, push-start engine, heated leather seats, contemporary (if not ultra-modern) dash design, roomy front and rear seats, tons of storage space, and an overall feeling of luxury car enveloped you the moment you sat down. The real over-the-top, wow-factor element was the panoramic sunroof with an automatic curtain system... it was just, wow.TEST DRIVE: The dealership gave me the keys and said, Well see you when we see you. Instant acceleration? Absolutely. Hybrid? No way. This Hyundai Sonata Hybrid (HSH) drove like a dream. Smooth, peppy, sporty, yet luxurious. I took it around for an hour or so and decided that it was going to be pushed to the top of my contenders list. It felt more comfortable than most of the other cars I had test driven and felt less like a Hybrid than all of them (thank you 6-speed transmission). After a day of driving other cars, the HSH felt like a retreat into a luxury condo. Everything about the car seemed to say to me, How can I make you more comfortable? How can I make this drive more exciting for you? What more can I do for you today. This car was definitely built from the drivers seat outward.RESEARCH: I was under no pressure to buy a car, so I took my time, researched all of my options and test drove every car that fit my basic parameters. As a car guru, I know most things about most cars, so my researched was aimed at filling in the gaps (i.e. owner experience, changes between 2012 and 2015 HSHs, recalls, future model introduction [at the time of my purchase, the 2016 HSH had been announced, which did encourage me to buy sooner than later, considering the design change was, in my opinion, moving backwards], dealership issues, etc). I joined the Hyundai forum for Sonata Hybrids and extensively read through threads describing issues specific to the HSH I was considering.PURCHASE: After several weeks of consideration and re-test driving the cars that made the top of my list, I finally decided that the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited w/ Ultimate Package was the car for me. Then the fun began. I called every Hyundai dealership in the Tri-State Area (VA-DC-MD) getting price quotes, availability, and dealer-specific incentives. I knew that I wanted to buy from Alexandria Hyundai, but after seeing their price match guarantee, I decided Id get the best deal possible, then have Alexandria Hyundai match it. The car at the time had an MSRP ~$33,500 (the limited package added upgraded tech, leather seats, some aesthetic features; the ultimate package added the panoramic sunroof and the Pioneer Stereo system) and I was in the market for something under $27,500. With the new 16 being released in the coming month and gas prices having plummeted, dealers seemed exceptionally willing to slash prices for almost any reason. To cut to the chase, I was able to have two Southern VA dealers battle it out to get my car down to $24,500 out the door (OTD). I was exceptionally happy with that price, brought the lowest quote to Alexandria Hyundai, and they said they would match it. They had the exact car I wanted, so I was ready to buy. I didnt haggle much from that point, because their dealership incentives were far better than any of the others (free car washes, free oil changes and tires for life, free inspections, free loaner with major service, etc). After going through the paperwork, which was a smooth transition, the car was mine (at least physically). Everything about the car was explained to me and I left a very happy consumer. 20,000 mi. UPDATE: Having had the car for 2 years, I am incredibly happy with the car itself and Alexandria Hyundai. Ive had very few services, but each time I brought my car in, I was treated very well and work was completed efficiently. The car drives like it did when I drove it off the lot that first day, with some minor wear in conspicuous places (the SONATA printed on the floor mat is less silver than it was back then). Id recommend Hyundai for consideration to friends and family; Id especially recommend the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid; and Id INSIST that if they were buying one, they go to Alexandria Hyundai in Northern Virginia.FINE PRINT: I bought the diamond white pearl model because its 10x more luxurious than the other colors. Its gorgeous enough to rival my friends Lexus RX-350 hybrid. Im still very much enamored with my car and think that 2 years later it is still one of the most attractive vehicles on the road. I am constantly told that my car looks brand new, looks and feels like a luxury car, and is sooo quiet.
I should have known better. I was a career car reporter, now retired, and I had seen first-hand the quality issues with Hyundai. But reviews like those in Consumer Reports convinced me things had changed, so I purchased a new Elantra GT in Canada in 2005 with a 5-year warranty. As I was retired, the car sat in the driveway mainly and that was part of the problem. More mileage would have unveiled the problems quicker. As delivered from the dealer, a brake light was missing and the alignment was off. I had my own mechanic fix these at my cost. I also had the car rust-proofed with oil spray as Korean steel is known to rust quickly. (Did not help, door seams and hatch rusted anyway.) Engine head gasket failed within 3 months and dealer botched the repair. I complained to Hyundai Canada and the engine was taken apart a second time, repair done correctly but the engine pinged after that, meaning that the compression ratio had been altered in the repair. Mirrors froze but I fixed the controller myself with WD40. Radio died, I upgraded it. Brakes vibrated but I fixed it myself with custom rotors rather than fight the dealer. Finally, dealer went under and disappeared. A month after the warranty expired, so did my steering rack. 25,000 miles on the car in 5 years and the rack blew. My mechanic put a new one for $1,700 in and that lasted 3 months. Extensive research on the net in chat groups and I found blown racks a common problem in the model. And the replacements fail because, allegedly, they are stored outdoors in Korea and the seals dry out. I sued Hyundai in Small Claims. Did they send a lawyer? No. Did they try to settle or fix the car? No. They sent the head of the central (head office) Parts Dept. who lied under oath to the judge about my attempts to resolve the issue. I won, but got rid of the car. Trade in for a 5-year old 2005 Elantra GT with 25000 miles, new brakes, new Michelins, upgraded radio, and needing a rack? $3,000. (Paid $20,000 five years earlier). Ugh.
This is my second Accent and on the first one the paint job on the roof of the car started to oxidize. When I bought this one I asked them if it was going to be a problem again. They assured me they had fixed the problem. Why did I believe what they said. My car is almost 4 years old and I noticed that the paint on the trunk is already starting to oxidize. I like to keep my cars for a lot of years and the last thing I want is a car with a bad paint job. I would not recommend this car if you are the person who wants a car that looks its age not like a car from a junk heap.
While driving on 5 Freeway in California my 2014 Hyundai Elantra started to violently shake like someone hitting the brake. I threw it in neutral and help my wife turn the steering wheel because we lost power steering. We got lucky and had a space to coast to the side of the road. When we got towed to Tuttle-Click in Irvine, CA and our car turned into the Service department. They basically said we are on our own to find a ride back home and no loaner car. Two days later I have to call them to find out the problem. First a technician said that it was a bad battery but that would not have caused it to completely shut down. Then a few hours later the Service Manager calls to say it was the battery and that is what caused it to shut down on us. I dont know who to believe but my wife doesnt want to ever drive or ride in it again. I have filed a complaint with Hyundai Corporate but dont know what they can do. I guess time will tell.
This is reference to Hyundai Head Office Consumer Complaints. On a recent service visit to my local Hyundai Dealer I was told that my car had quite an alignment problem that would cost $130.00 to fix. The tech could find no sign of me rubbing a curb or any other reason why my car would be out of alignment with only 23000km. When I called head office to complain and to get an explanation on why my car would be out of alignment after only 23000km they could give me no reason and had no interest in solving this issue. They did not offer to call the dealership and ask the techs any questions and did nothing more than log the complaint. The person I talked to had no knowledge of any kind and is there only to log the complaint in their computer system. Hyundai Consumer complaint is a joke and a worthless phone number to have. I have dealt with other car companies in the past with always excellent results and for this reason this will be the first and last Hyundai car I will purchase.
I leased a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and was very unhappy with the auto. I contacted the dealer who said they would sell me a 2017 Hyundai Tucson and purchase the Elantra from me, I paid them $4350.00 which took care of early lease return fees, taxes and everything else. This was a purchase and sale. I have all the papers to prove this and tried to explain to them, Hyundai leasing, that I do not owe them anything and, if any monies have to be paid it would be by the Dealer, not me. Now they have reported me delinquent to the credit bureaus and as a result my credit scores have been reduced and as a result this has cost me higher interest fees, etc. I have disputed this with Equifax, Transunion and Experian but not successful. What can I do to rectify this???
Hyundai is comfortable, gives a smooth ride and handles well. It has low maintenance obligations though it has high mileage. Seats are high to support knee issues. Love the heated seats and back seat temperature control. The 3rd row seating is handy for road trips with the grand kids. The sun roof was also a must for me and the grands! I got the most amenities without an exorbitant additional cost. However, it doesnt have Bluetooth or a back up camera. I also would like a steering wheel that heated up and that the 3rd row seats are raised up higher off the floor. Theyre so low that theyre only appropriate for small children. Nevertheless, its the best vehicle Ive ever owned!
After driving my car for only 20 months the engine started to make a ticking noise & now my warranty claim is denied for lack of receipts & sludge. I am highly upset because I have to pay for a car that no longer works at the same time continue to pay for a warranty that denies my claim. What really is the point of purchasing a warranty if they are going to deny you? Now be that as it may I had this same problem before with a previous car I owned but did not have a warranty on it. All the reason why I purchased a warranty this time. What is up with all these used cars breaking down after 20 to 30,000 miles driving it? So I got a warranty on the Hyundai as part of my payment plan. The worst part about this deal is that Hyundai sold me a warranty that has been denied because of supposedly sludge build up in the car. I gave them a total of the latest 3 receipts I had. I sent them the stickers that the service men place on the corner of your driver side window for every time I had an oil change, dating back to when I first got the car to prove I actually did have the car worked on. And yet I am still denied. It really sucks. I pay my notes on time and have my car maintenance all the time. I was not even aware I had to keep my receipts for the warranty to even be used. They are not at all loyal to their customers. In talking to them they all will say they understand but cant do nothing for you, while they are still charging you for a lemon they sold you. America needs to make a law behind this. If a claim gets denied they should at least discontinue the contract seeing as they cant do anything for it if they obviously deny you. I also believe that all cars should be refinanced to the bluebook value if something as tragic as an engine or transmission breaks down.
I took my 2014 Sonata to dealer five times and they smelled the bad fumes coming from my car and each time they cant find anything wrong and they know its bad and they say Hyundai wont fix it for several people have same problems. So Im going to sell car for I cant drive. It makes me too sick and hard to breathe. Im 63 years old and I dont need added health issues from my car.
I brought a new Hyundai Sonata and it rides very rough. I told Hyundai that it rides like a wagon. I have a complaint into Hyundai and it goes in today, see what happens. Probably nothing right.
The people are great when it comes to buying your car. But when it comes to helping fix it it is a nightmare. I got a new engine 3 months ago. They had it for 9 weeks. After 3 months of having it now it is having another issue and no one seems to know how to help other than fixing it. The parts are nowhere to be found and they have NO loaner cars, which I was told at first one wouldnt be given to me because my warranty didnt cover it even though had they done it right in the 9 weeks they had it, I wouldnt be in the position I am right now with NO car. After struggling for 7 weeks last time, they finally gave me a loaner the last 2 or 3 weeks of it all.Now we are at yet another situation where they cant help. This is completely aggravating and disappointing from Gates. I have been with them 7 years and this has been the worst yet. No big issues have happened in the past. My car is a 2014 with 41,000 miles and it shouldnt be where it is now. It has been well maintained and cared for. Before you buy, just know they are great but thats their job when selling. But when it comes to fixing things later on down the road, good luck.
I have dealt with corporate for over a year to try and get the power of attorney to do a state to state transfer and they lied each time by saying that someone else mailed it to me to shoo me off the phone and caused me to have to get a ticket from the police due to their negligence and disorganization. I was unable to ever get a power of attorney until I called corporate several times and explained that this was a breach of contract by not sending me the necessary documents. I will never again lease from this company and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
First of all, I love your vehicles. But your finance company leaves a lot to be desired. I have never seen a company with your prestige have such a problem hiring quality people to assist with finance problems. So unsatisfactory. I might consider another company when my lease reaches fruition.
I had a 2006 Azera that I drove for 147k Miles. It was a near perfect ownership experience. So I purchased a 2011 Genesis 3.8. Its been very disappointing to say the least. What made it disappointing is Hyundais degrading their warranty so that not a single malfunction has been covered by their warranty. I now had 51k miles on the Genesis. This is what had not been covered by their warranty. Navigation does not boot up ~30% of the time, moisture inside rear tail light, wind noise from passenger rear door from day 1, windshield wipers have no intermittent, phone bluetooth cuts out. Wheels peeling clear coat from day one. Dead front strut. So I would recommend avoiding Hyundai. I feel like a chump from driving one. Plus, the ride is rough and too much road noise for this class of car. Avoid!
I would like to state my utter disgust and anger at the horrible customer service I have received by Hyundai Consumer Affairs. The engine blew on my 2017 Hyundai Sonata over a week and a half ago. I had it towed to Bill Dube Hyundai in Wilmington, MA. I have been waiting ever since for someone, anyone, to give me answer as to when my car will be fixed.There has been absolutely no sense of urgency and zero care or consideration for me, the customer, who has been without a car for nearly 2 weeks. It is reprehensible that this much time has gone by and not a single person can even tell me WHEN I will get an answer. The case has even been escalated. But the person it was escalated to does not answer his phone and has a recording that he will call you back within 3-days. HOW IS THAT AN ESCALATION!!!!So now another week has gone by and Im without a car or answers. The person answering the 800 number at Consumer Affairs tells me hes going to send an alert message to Scott my case manager and if he doesnt get back to me today he should by Monday. This is the same response I got from the Bill Dube dealer last week. Well I waited until Monday, nobody called me and I still have no answers. When and if this ever comes to a conclusion I will certainly be sure to tell everyone I know and anyone who will listen to NEVER BUY A HYUNDAI. Hyundai does not back up their product or care about their customers. This is deplorable.
I was forced to sign a lease for 2012 Hyundai Elantra by Herb Chambers Hyundai of Auburn, promising a great deal and rebate. But they have put more than $3,000 above their MSRP of $21,495. They gave me no rebate. When questioned, they said this particular car doesnt have a rebate. But that car always remained in their specials page with all the other deals! They did all malpractices in the lease calculation and made me put a down of $530 - $2,000 cash and $3,300 trade-in. Still, they made my monthly installment $291.44 for 36 months with 12,000 miles per year.Their advertisement says MSRP $21,495, monthly installment $234 for $0 down! I paid $5,300 down but my installment is much higher than what their ad says. I contacted them many times with this but their response was so sarcastic and humiliating. The managing director asked me, Then why did you take the car? in a very sarcastic way. They even openly accepted that they put a higher MSRP purposefully and they do have the right from Hyundai to do so.I complained in Hyundai consumer affairs but they closed the case just listening to the dealer saying that they gave me a huge package of accessories which made the price difference. The accessories the dealer gave me did not cost beyond $1,000, but the lady who represented Hyundai was not willing to listen to me. She was in a hurry to close the case. I am trying to get justice in some or other way.
I own a Tucson ix35, I am very happy with the car to the point that I wanted to change my old one for a new Tucson. My disappointment started after I took it to the shop because of a hesitation problem. It was a Friday, at first I was attended adequately. They asked my phone to call me the next day (Saturday) to inform me what the car needed to solve the problem. They never called me until I showed up on Monday in the shop to see what the problem was. They have not even touched the car and they were surprised to see me there, at 3:00 p.m. I received a call telling me that the price was approximately 360 u.s.d because they did not know if other parts were faulty, showing that they have not checked the car professionally and technically to what I said to suspend the work.When I appeared to take my car, the person in charge tried to give me a not convincing explanation for the delay with a not very friendly attitude. After he was asked about report a serious shop is supposed to give the customers before delivering the car, the guy said Do you know what a check up is? and urged me to pay 39 u.s.d. My son was about to react but I signaled to calm down. I did not say a word, paid the bill and left the shop. The car was as dirty as I left (I do not know if they do not have any more the policy of delivering a clean car or simply the 39 dollars I paid are not worth it). Anyways the summary is: I as a customer feel mistreated and I am seriously reconsidering the possibility to buy another Hyundai. Take this information of my bad experience to try to improve the quality of the service. My best regards.

This car model (Tucson) was very quiet and nice unlike the previous car that I drove, it was nice too but engine was getting loud because of age. I like how you can control a/c on back seat. This car model was also cheaper than the other model I wanted to buy but I liked the color and the size as well as the quality and things that came with the car such as leather seat and built in navigation. But it was a bit dirty since it has been sitting at dealer for over a year.
Owner of a brand new 2017 Equus. This is their top of the line luxury car which they have decided to quit manufacturing. First and foremost their whole marketing campaign about picking your car up and providing a replacement of similar kind when needing serviced was an absolute fabrication. After the Iast few month dealership just said, Sorry we don’t do that now. So much for honesty and follow through to commitment.Next within the 1st year and a half I had to have the dashboard replaced as it fell apart. Then my mirror on the driver side just fell off. Then the radio would not work. Just come on and off - ended up charging me for a new one but didn’t fix the problem. Now the car is overheating and to fix the radio like they should have done to start they now want to charge me several hundred more. I could go on at length on more problems but no point. I am writing this for one reason to warn others about this unbelievably crappy car with a $70,000 price tag. If you gave me one I would give you $500 to tow it away which you would get used to doing in a short period of time anyway.
Had to replace back brake every few months and one day while driving heard a noise and lost control of the car, had the car tow to the shop and was told my the back axle had come detached from the subframe due to rust and could not be repaired... Called Hyundai and they and complain about it the other day. Someone from Hyundai of America call me saying they want to buy my car back for 500.
Never buy a Hyundai!!! I bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T Limited and I have had nothing but regrets. Everything that could possibly go wrong, HAS! I had the famous engine failure in December 2016. It just stalled and seized on the highway and the useless Agincourt Hyundai dealership in Toronto that I took it to DID NOT EVEN PRESENT THE CASE TO HYUNDAI CANADA INITIALLY. They just asked me to bring $9,000 for an engine replacement. I had to call Hyundai Canada myself, and they also tried to void my warranty until I threatened legal action. They finally gave me a new engine and less than a week later, my driveway was an oil pool, the engine oil leak was so bad that my dipstick dried up in days!Besides the engine issue, there has been countless MIL (check engine light) illuminations: from 02 sensor to catalytic converter to issues with the gutless turbo the car has. The shocks and struts on the car are so useless too, they have been changed severally. The wheel alignment is the worst, its like it loses alignment every 3000 km! I do not drive badly, but somehow this piece of garbage always pulls to one side even after an alignment. The sunroof creaks! My backup camera chooses when its going to work, on other days it just shows me a blue screen when in reverse! The sound system is total nonsense (I have the dimension system)! I REPEAT: DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI!!
Since I have had the car April 2015. I had to buy front brakes and rotors 3 weeks after the purchase for inspection. The dealer told me they dont have to replace the brakes for Pa. inspection. How can they sell a car with bad brakes. Also this car has an issue with the tire pressure sensor no matter what pressure you have. And now I am getting a fuel sensor error causing the check engine light to come on. I am scare that with the sensor for the fuel may cause issues with the fuel gauge and not knowing the amount of fuel you have such as reading 1/2 fuel and being empty. This needs to be addressed via Hyundai to repair this asap.
My break light went out recently, so I went to go get the problem fixed. Come to realize that the auto shop told me that my left tail light wasnt attached to the vehicle, like it have been pulled from the car. All four screws were damaged. So I asked him if he could check the driver side, and it was the same issue. Now I am driving with my back tail lights hanging out of my car. I took it to the dealership and called Hyundai and they are saying they can not help me with this issue because no one has ever reported it, but on NHTSA you can see all the complaints of Hyundai owners having this same problem. HELP PLEASE!
I took my 2013 Genesis in for a recall and was talked into trading it in and leasing a new Tucson. I then read that if I were to total the leased vehicle, I would be out the equity from my Genesis as the insurance would pay them, not me. I explained my concerns and was within the three days that the lease stated I had to cancel. They were upset and said that it wasnt true and that I would get the money. I said, If I rent an apartment and it burns down, I will NOT get the money, the OWNER will! So they kept saying that wasnt true and were angry but brought my Genesis back and I left, forgetting I had given them my title (free and clear). When I realized this, I called and they said they would send the title. It has been a week and I dont think Ill be getting it. I realize I shouldve done my homework first and avoided this embarrassing situation, but I am looking to trade in and buy a vehicle from them after a vacation Im planning. I told them this but still no title. Also, they just brought my vehicle in a huff and I didnt sign anything so Im hoping I dont get screwed worse than losing my title. If I receive the title tomorrow, Ill feel terrible and Ill have to delete this or update.
My 2017 Hyundai Tuscon I originally leased but ended up buying it when my lease was up. It was about a month later in December the engine/transmission went. I took it in the service department. Took 3 days to look at it but determined metal shavings were all over the motor and it needed to be replaced. Thankfully still under warranty. I then asked for a loaner and a manager in the service department told me they dont do that. I ended up going to Enterprise for a rental IN DECEMBER. I called every week for six weeks asking for an update and I was told they were waiting on a part. I then asked to speak to a manager as I was out money for renting a car for six weeks and another manager in the department said, Yes we have one. come pick it up. I get there and I was told they didnt have any more cars to loan out. Obviously I threw a fit as I turned in my other lease.By now it is MARCH and they still have not communicated when my car would be ready I quit calling weekly and went straight to Hyundai Corporate where they opened up a case and gave me a case manager. He was not that helpful at all. It didnt speed up the process of me getting my car back. I finally got my car back March 30th and my paperwork to turn in for reimbursement and I was told a week or so later the paperwork that the dealership gave me was not enough to warrant a reimbursement. I resent the paperwork 3x and emailed and called since they will not return my emails or calls. I would NEVER deal or buy from Hyundai again. There are too many other nicer cars and I am sure easier people to deal with than Hyundai. I will now go a step further and file civil action against them. The car was under warranty. I should be able to get my money back and they should have communicated better!!!!
I purchased a 2010 Hyundai Sonata in August 2009 with 500 miles on it at the time of purchase. To date, I have had the vehicle in the service department 3 times regarding the transmission, dropping, failing and stalling, for a total of about 4 weeks in the shop. Just before the 60k mile warranty expired, the rear passenger side door handle fell apart. I had that replaced, covered under warranty. Since that time, about 5,000 miles has passed and today, the just replaced door handle fell off again in my hand trying to put my children in the car. I have tried and tried to be patient and put up with this car and all the times it has been in and out of the shop, but I am truly to my breaking point. I have to put my children in this car and travel to school, work, daycare and after-school activities. I need someone to get in touch with me regarding the possible lemon law or before it gets to that point about someone buying back my vehicle and putting me in something comparable of my choice. I am aware of the laws and my rights. Please contact me as soon as possible so we can have this resolved before anyone is seriously injured as a result of poor craftsmanship and production of my vehicle. Purchased a Hyundai Kona in 2018, just over 30G miles while in Colorado the check engine light goes on (this is August 2020). Take the car to Boulder Hyundai, they have no real idea what is wrong with it, replace injectors, debris in engine, they dont know why.... Wont release car as it could be unsafe, all 4 pistons misfiring so bad that the steering wheel pulls aggressively to the right. Supposedly they fix it, I am told if check engine light comes back on, stop car immediately and have it towed in, as it is dangerous to drive. Well Sept 7th, check engine light comes on again, steering wheel pulling aggressively again due to misfiring. I stop, have car towed in. Nalley Hyundai has had my car since 9/8/20. Replaced everything again, still same problem, they are in no rush to help, they have had my car for OVER 6 weeks, no clue whats wrong, I am completely at their mercy! Still making payments on car I cannot drive, they refuse to take it back and make it right. So I am paying on a car I have not driven in over 6 weeks and there is nothing I can do about it! Dont buy a kona! Dont buy a hyundai! They dont care at all and you as the customer have no advocate!
I recently purchased a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and I was sold a higher model which cost me an additional $1,700 + taxes as I required the Bluetooth technology for my cell phone as I conduct work in my car. I was assured it works with all cell phone models and after purchasing the vehicle, the option does not work with my Blackberry 9900. After researching the issue, it is a known problem that Hyundai Canada is aware of. Despite contacting them and sending in a formal complaint to their customer relations department, they refuse to do anything to remedy the situation. I’m very dissatisfied and I will never recommend a Hyundai to anyone I know. I am disappointed with the fact that the product doesnt work (doesnt synch). But what is more upsetting is that they simply brush me off and refuse to find me a suitable solution. I will be forced to go purchase a new device and incur additional charges (~$700) just so I am able to use their Bluetooth technology with a phone model that their product is compatible with.
If i could give this place negative stars I would. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE.. This place is the effing worst. I get a notice of a recall on my car so I make an appointment to bring my car stating that this is for a recall ... The lady takes my info ... vin number and all tells me exactly what I need done... I have to take the day off of work to get the service done only to find out that day they dont even have the part available. You would think someone would of called me beforehand . I had reschedule. .. I take it back on my scheduled date only to be told Oh this is an all day thing youll have to bring it back another day. I informed the guy as calm as I could that this is the second time Im here for this same issue I was scheduled to come in why wouldnt they again tell me this over the phone. He asks me can you leave it over night. I told him I was prepared to leave and have a ride home waiting... As long as I can get it back before Monday Ill be good. He said yeah itll be ready tomorrow. Ill call you. Never got a call back. That was Saturday. Today is Sunday Im calling like crazy to get a status on my car only to find out they are closed today. So unprofessional. I will never deal with this place again. Im finding out info on how to complain to corporate.
I purchased a new 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT in January 2014. I bought the Titanium package with my car and about two months later I hit a pothole and ruined my tire. I filed a claim and they not only didnt pay the $200 but never even responded other than to say they needed more documentation (which I submitted). This service is not worth the energy to get a reimbursement! Additionally, my car was advertised as getting 30-39 MPG. I havent averaged over 21 MPG in the past year and I have only 8,000 miles on my car of which 70% are highway miles. Ive tried to deal with this disparity through my dealership (Rogers Hyundai) and have tried contacting Hyundai directly with no response. There should be some compensation for such a huge difference in promised mileage.
Have a 2013 Azera - there are multiple Azeras up the east coast with engine problems. They all got their long block replaced except mine. Got the short block because they were all out in the US. After dealer having the car over 40 days it is shaking at a stop (almost stalling), scared to drive my kids in the car. Dealer says nothing wrong with it now. Time to get window markers and put a lemon on it so everyone knows Hyundai wont do anything except free oil changes...how terrible!
Since owning my 2013 Hyundai Sonata, I have had a number of recalls (or as the company likes to call them, ‘campaigns’). The most recent includes FOUR recalls. I took time off of work to get the recalls addressed, and yet, I still keep receiving notices that I need to take the car back in for the same recalls that I got taken care of. When you call customer service all you get is the run around or told that you are being “hostile” when they question you about where the emails are coming from and you tell them you have full command of the English language or “talking over them”. I still can’t use my phone’s bluetooth as the company never updated their system with the newer phones. My navigation system doesn’t know half of the addresses I put in, and the car only has 44,000 miles in 6 years. In addition, I constantly have to put air in my right front tire, regardless of the weather. Now I have to go back because the dealer disengaged the heated seats so I can’t even trade it in until they fix their mistake, and that was after the dealer tried telling me that the recalls had nothing to do with the heated seats (which they then had to reverse course on as the tech had to disconnect the heated seat wires to put the airbag harness on). Hyundai claims in their ads that they make ‘better’ cars. Better for who? Because it DEFINITELY isn’t better or safer for the consumer. I feel that is a misrepresentation of the truth. Save yourself and your wallet! Don’t even look bother. There are other more reputable companies from which to choose from. Honestly, I think the federal government needs to look into the safety of Hyundai’s vehicles.
My husband bought me the 2012 Hyundai Azera for my 50th birthday. Every year the battery dies. It is going on it 5th battery!! Last year I threw a fit over the same thing every year. They said it is because when I stop the car, forget to put it in park. This did not make any sense because of the fact it dies around the same time each year. They keep it for weeks without a loaner car!! I wrote Hyundai and told them my problem, they were complete no help. I had no problems with my last car. This car has been a complete nightmare. From the service department, all the way up to the Hyundai company. It is in the shop again for another battery!! I will never buy another Hyundai again. Just the worst customer service I have ever seen!!
Back in late November of 2012, I found out that Hyundai misrepresented their gas mileage on the Hyundai Elantra. There was an email address to write to. I did, and was told that I would receive money each month for as long as I owned my car, in the amount of $37.56 per month. It has been over four months now and I have not heard from them, nor received any money from them. This is my 5th Hyundai (3 Elantras, 1 Azera, and 1 Santa Fe), but if I dont get any results from them on this matter, this will be my last Hyundai.
I recently called/Hyundai roadside assistance, noticing that it included towing. My vehicle has a flat tire, and at this point I don’t have a ton of extra money. I live 200 feet away from a Firestone tire, a relative helped by purchasing the tire I needed and Firestone said they would install it. All I have to do is get the vehicle or the wheel over there. Well Hyundai Veloster don’t come with a spare tire or jack. So I can’t jack the car up and take the wheel off, this didn’t seem like a problem knowing I had roadside assistance. Well roadside assistance will not hold me across the street where I already have a fully paid tire waiting, they would however bring me to a Hyundai dealer but they are non-local to me. I was told by the tow company that exceptions can be made so I spent time on the phone with Hyundai’s customer service just so that they could tell me no. I can assure you after customer service like this I will never return to Hyundai again. This is a lack of compassion for their consumers, I understand you want me to be brought to a Hyundai dealer so the dealer can make the money on the tire and installation, but in my particular situation you should’ve okayed a tow across the street; don’t buy a Hyundai thinking you have someone there for you when you need it. You don’t.
My 2014 Sonata was at the end of the lease. I always had automatic payment out of my checking account. On May 10 I requested the stop of the automatic payment. I received confirmation and a paper invoice. The car was turned in on May 27. Hyundai still deducted the lease payment on May 29. From my checking account. I called them on May 31, they admitted it was a mistake on their part. They said I would get a refund in 3-4 weeks. Be careful of Hyundai. I would cancel my auto payment 3 months early to avoid this situation.
I was driving down the road in North Carolina when I heard a loud bang. The moon roof of my 2011 Sonata shattered. Glass completely went out in one piece. The dealer tried to say that the roof was hit by an object. Im waiting for Hyundai to do the right thing. The car is still under warranty. I hope that I dont have to ride around a long time with sun roof broken and raining in my car. I have no garage.
I turned in my Hyundai vehicle on August 25, 2011 under the Hyundai Assurance program. And on September 6, 2011, Hyundai continued drafting my account for payments even after my automobile was returned.
After 5.5 years and limited mileage two major parts requiring replacement costing up to £2500 for non genuine parts. This is not my expectation and I reported this to Hyundai. As far as I am concerned this is an unreliable vehicle. I have looked after the car and the Hyundai garage say it is one of those things, however they did try and sell me another car at the time I was voicing my concerns.
The Veracruz was sold to us with faulty alignment. Unfortunately, it wasnt found until the one tire had no thread and wires were showing. The vehicle not even a year old! We contacted the dealer immediately and were told that they would not cover anything for us because we were 400 miles over the warranty! They finally agreed to do the alignment at no cost due to us fighting very hard, but let my husband drive out of their garage with a tire showing wires and extremely unsafe! They refused to put a new tire on the vehicle no matter what, even though it was their fault of the improper alignment! A multi-billion dollar company cant fork up the cost of a tire to make sure that their customer was safe in a vehicle that they bought from them that was faulty! My family of 5 were at great risk driving this vehicle not knowing that the car was unsafe! We contacted the service department several times and corporate offices and was told that it is our problem and then was hung up on! They werent going to help. How sick! We will never buy another Hyundai again in our lifetime. They are awful to deal with any type of customer service or issues with anything. They dont care about their customers or their safety and that is unacceptable! We could have easily had a blow out at any time with a family of 5 with 3 small children!
I bought Hyundai Starex end of the year 2008. On 06.07.2011, while driving engine, oil was leaking badly and stopped the vehicle and towed to Hyundai Service Center at No-1, Jalan Johor Jaya, Taman Perindustrian Plentong, Johore Bahru, 81750 (Mileage 145447). Because of warranty, they replaced new engine. Old engine no. ** New engine no. **. On 26.09.2011, I send the vehicle and complain: 1. Oil leaking at power steering area / Intercooler hose area.2. Noise at engine area on acceleration. (Turbo area).After checking, they said nothing and all in good condition. Some foreman refused after checking the engine, its not a new engine. Its a used engine, but Hyundai Service Center said its a new engine. If new engine, why this much problem?.On 11.04.2012 in the morning, when starting the engine, I saw white smoke. I drove the vehicle to Hyundai Service Center at same place. Service Center sent me the quotation (estimate repair charges): 1.Turbo charger assy - Rm 315.00 2. EGR valve - Rm180.00 3. After changing the new engine, they never take action on it. Why no warranty? Why I cant claim? Every time, Im having problem with this engine.
Since I purchased the new Hyundai Sonata 2012, I have had problems starting the vehicle. Within the 1st week of purchase, it had to be towed because it wouldnt start. It didnt recognize the keys (keyless remote). They didnt find a problem. The second time, it didnt recognize the brake to start the car. This time, they changed a faulty brake switch. This occurred in the 1st month of purchase. Now at about 15,066 miles, they had to fix the grounding wires under the brake switch which also made it so the lights were not turning on at night and the car didnt start. My car had to get a jump from the tow truck driver. On all 3 times, I had to miss work and my son was late going to school. Having a car not start is very dangerous as a single parent, especially at night. Having the lights not work is also dangerous as I was flashed at many times on the freeway and didnt know why it wasnt working. Ladin provided me with a loaner car, which was greatly appreciated. This problem got worse and caused further concerns such as the lights not working. I have seen the same problem listed by others with this vehicle. Very dangerous for anyone. This has been a lemon since the first week of purchase in that I could not start a brand new car and the problem continued 2 other times and further corrupted the lights. I do not feel confident driving this car as each time I was assured that it would be fine, it was not fine. Thank you for your help in addressing this matter.
I really should have taken Hyundai up on their return policy! October, 2017 I purchased a new Hyundai Tucson Sport. Salesperson told me that vehicle had Bluelink with remote start and all other features! Waited for car after purchase (5 hours by the way) and took it home. Tried to register Bluelink, only to be told after an hour that the vehicle is not equipped with Bluelink. Phone call to dealership (should have returned it)... they agreed to install a remote start. They installed a rather goofy remote start. It actually went off when I entered the car to try and drive. Long story short, after numerous problems with the car not recognizing the key fob and the alarm randomly going off, they removed the remote start (as they could find no other cause).Fast forward, now my year old car will turn over upon push start, and simply turn off. This has happened over 8 times now. Taken it in to service department and told we cant get it to do that, we cant find anything wrong. Next time, just have it towed. The next time, 20 minutes trying to start - call for tow truck (cancel class I have to teach because I am late). Tow truck arrives & says I have to move your car and what do you know, the car starts! I drove it directly to dealership. I told them keep it, drive it, find out what is wrong and fix it. That was Tuesday. Saturday, nothing - I went and got the car back. Emailed Hyundai Consumer Affairs - given case number with someone will contact you within 3-5 business days. Today, car wont start! Late for work and car still sitting in my driveway! I took video and forwarded to dealership service dept and Hyundai Consumer Affairs indicating I want a car to drive (as I am paying for one that is not driveable) until they find out what is wrong and fix it! That was 3 hours ago... still no phone call or reply of any kind! This was my first and last Hyundai purchase. I will never buy Hyundai - and may end up having to sue! So frustrated!!! I should NOT have to ask for a car to drive, when my car that is under warranty - keeps being inoperable.
I bought the car in November of 2010, and its been a bad experience since having thought of buying the new car from Hyundai. My car has been taken four times for A/C problems to Hyundai, but still the same problem persists. Secondly, the car is has started to get rusty within nine months time, and there was no one from Hyundai to talk to with authority.
My 2008 Hyundai Veracruz with roughly 60,000 miles on it has been at the dealership for two weeks not running. There is damage to the engine and excessive sludge build up which has also damage parts around the engine. I was told that the work is not covered under warranty because it is due to lack of maintenance. I was able to produce receipts that proved I get scheduled oil changes on my car and passed on this information to the dealership. I then called Hyundai North America and filed a complaint and requested to have this work covered under the warranty since it happened from no fault of my own. It has now been two weeks and a Hyundai North America regional manager has failed to reach out to me and contact me in regards to this. I call and email and still have no answers as to what is going on with my car. I have just received a phone call from the dealership that they received an email and that Hyundai will not cover the engine damage because they still find it happened due to lack of maintenance. Nobody from Hyundai North America has reached out to me to discuss these findings. This is the second Hyundai I purchased because I was sold on Americas Best Warranty. This could not be less accurate. The customer service has been below par and the fact that they will not stand behind the warranty and fix what is broken is worse. I will never purchase a Hyundai vehicle again and I ask you to take my experience into consideration before you do. I understand that there is no guarantee that nothing will last forever and I accept that, I can deal with that. The customer service from Hyundai is what is completely dissatisfying and unacceptable.
One of the best car buying experiences I have ever had. Family owned, that tell you a lot. Very helpful staff in sales as well as service. Great selection of cars and the most important easy going NO Haggle store. All options, Terms and Payment are given right upfront. Definitely recommend this store to do business with.
I’m writing this post because I had bad experience with Hyundai USA, and I warned their representative Lauren **, that this is what I would do. Her response basically was, “Go ahead,” and that is why I’m spending the time to write this. She refused to give me her last name, but if this gets back to Hyundai, I’m sure they will find out who she is.Back in March, when I would back up and apply the brakes, it sounded like thunder. I knew this meant I was having a problem with my brakes so I called the local Hyundai Dealership. They told me because I only had 12,320 miles on my car, that the rotors would be covered under my warranty. They also said the brake pads would not. The dealership was a distance away, and in the past even with an appointment, I had to wait a long time to have the repairs done. They also charge considerably more than a local auto repair shop would. I saved even more money because there was a local store that had a Groupon for brake pads. I had assumed that new pads were all I needed, but when they took off the rear wheels, they showed me that the rotors were also badly worn and had to be replaced. I had already paid for the pads with the Groupon, and I told them to also replace the rotors.I called Hyundai because the rotors should not have gone bad with only 12,320 miles on them, and ask that they pay the $149.80 it cost me to have them repaired. Their answer was since the repair was not done at a Hyundai Dealership, it would usually not be covered. They also said if I went to the Hyundai Dealership, and got a letter that the rotors were installed properly, there was a good chance that they would cover the cost. So of course, I went to the dealership, got a letter from them, sent in a copy of my bill along with another letter explaining everything, to their complaint department. Their response after doing all of this was NO! Not taking no for an answer, this time I wrote to the corporate office and waited three weeks for their response. I figured a multi-billion dollar company would just reimburse me, the same as they would have paid the dealership to have the repair done. As I said before, Lauren ** also said Hyundai would not cover it. I can spend $149.80 just for a good dinner, so it’s not so much the money, it’s the principle. In trying to find Hyundai’s telephone number it said that they got only 1 star for customer service, so you know this the next time you are looking for cars.
My husband and I have tried for over 3 months now to get a COPY of our title sent to the WA DMV to register our car. We get tossed around to multiple agents, they make us verify our information multiple times, we get disconnect frequently, and worst of all NO ONE SEEMS TO EVER BE ABLE TO ANSWER BASIC QUESTIONS. We have been told multiple times that the copy of our title was sent to the DMV but every time we call, the DMV says they havent received it. We then call Hyundai who says were sorry someone told you that, we will send it out today THIS CYCLE KEEPS REPEATING ITSELF OVER AND OVER!!! We are at our wits end and are thinking about taking legal action. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI!!!
Got wheel bearings changed at a local mechanic. The part was under warranty. I filed for warranty, requesting reimbursement for $250. I have been asked to get the proof of work done from a Hyundai dealership, which I am in total agreement with. The dealerships are asking me $400-450 for inspection. I am willing to pay that amount, considering that I would be reimbursed for it all. I repeatedly asked Hyundai customer service, whether I would be reimbursed if the dealership confirms that the repair was done. To which, I am being told that they cannot guarantee. Beyond common sense, how this works.
The Hyundai Sonata has a known problem with engine locking up around 140000. They know of the problem but will not stand behind the product. Get rid of them before 140000 or you will be buying a new engine.
We love the appearance of our Hyundai Sonata. However, it is covered under an oil consumption recall which the dealer will not fix. Hyundais complaint department is no help other than recommending us going to another dealer. The next dealer is further away from us. We already drive too far to the current dealer for them to do the oil consumption test. Said oil consumption test involves the dealer changing the oil early due to the oil consumption. They have guidelines that say the car must use 1 quart of oil by 1,000 miles. Our car makes it barely past 1,000 miles and then hits 2 quarts low before the oil change is due.We have been advised not to add oil or get oil changed anywhere other than the dealership. Thats what we are doing. They seem to overfill the oil each time which gets us barely past that 1,000 mile guideline. We cant trust this car for trips. We cant keep driving back and forth to the dealership for them to do nothing. We will not buy another Hyundai and we will continue to warn others of our troubles.
We have had the 2014 Elantra a year which we bought directly from Woodland Hills Hyundai dealer. It wasnt cheap, as with the extended warranty of 100,000 miles it came to $24,000. We were never told the car did not come with a spare tire. We spent the evening of fathers day being towed back to the dealer and missing our plans because we got a flat tire. The response I was given as its like this in all the cars now. I know that isnt true, because we also bought a Toyota and Nissan which have spare tires. For a company that prides itself on safety, not having a spare or informing the purchase that there is no spare, is not ok!!! The car drives fine, but this to me reflects very poor customer service.
I bought Hyundai Sonata 2013 five months ago. I am happy with driving the car but I noticed that you took my money for blue link which is I already cancelled.When I bought the car, you told me that I have to pay $99 for year for the blue-link. There was a one month fee. I didnt want to pay and it wasnt good for me so I cancelled. But you charged. When I called the blue-link, blue-link told me that there is 3 option in the blue link but I only cancelled one option. I never heard about that. I never heard about that when I bought the car and even when I cancelled the blue-link. I didnt know there is three options. I never heard. When I canceled, you asked why I want to cancel so I just said that it doesnt recognize my voice. For the reason, the blue-link cancelled only one option.When I bought the car the sales person explained the destination search service very kindly but the guy never explained about the other option which is remote access option. I think because I installed remote starter, already. The Hyundai sales person never told me that I have to pay for $198 for year. He only told me $99 a year for the blue-link which he told me only the destination service. I dont want to believe that you had a purpose to take out my money. But there is only way, I can understand the situation. When I called Hyundai dealer which is Patrick Hyundai, they told me I have to speak with the blue-link but the blue-link told me there is nothing they can do. Only they could cancel and I can get less of the money. I feel bad. You tricked me into spending my money. I am very disappointed with Hyundai.
I would like to start out by saying I will NEVER lease a car from Hyundai ever again. My girlfriend and I have had our lease for about 3 months and the customer service has been an absolute nightmare. I have been trying to get paperwork from the company to change my plates from PA to MA and I get a different answer from a representative every single time I call. Not to mention I am on hold for at least an hour and have called about 10 times. I will relay my experience onto anyone I know that is seeking a new car how much of a disappointment Hyundai has been. Its honestly embarrassing how inconsistent a customer service can be. I wish zero stars was an option.
In 2010 I leased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. I had previously purchased a Hyundai and had decided to stay with the company because I feel customer loyalty goes a long way. In 2013 my lease was up, and I loved my first Sonata so much that I decided to lease another one! I went in a month before the lease ended to shop around. The sales person convinced me to participate in the pull ahead program. This program lets you terminate the lease early as long as you sign another lease. I was excited to be in a new car a month before I originally thought I would be! Although they didnt have exactly what I wanted, I left with a new lease that day. Fast forward to today, and Im still dealing with calls from debt collectors/Hyundais corporate office saying I owe payment for the last month on my previously leased car. Despite reassurance from the local dealership that I dont owe anything, the calls continue to come. Not only to my cell, but also to my work (Im an ICU RN). Getting notifications from my coworkers that I have a phone call from a debt collector is not only embarrassing and untrue, but it is distracting from my job! This whole ordeal has made it look like I dont pay my bills, bringing my character into question among my coworkers. Not to mention the stress it has caused my husband and I. We have spent so much of our time worrying about the possibility of this royal screw up by Hyundai ultimately affecting our credit, which we work very hard to keep in excellent standing. Im so frustrated with this that I just want to be done with Hyundai completely, but they refuse to work with me to get me out of my current lease! As much as I love my car I dont agree with the way they do business, and I feel taken advantage of and trapped. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy!
So I ventured into a 48 mo lease back in Nov. 2011 on a 2012 Hyundai Elantra Limited. I got my vehicle from a well-known dealer down by the Philadelphia Auto Mall. The deal was fine, dealership was helpful and off I went in my new Elantra. The one small issue was with the color combination I had wanted but the dealer could not deliver on. So I settled on an available color combination and was happy nonetheless. Fast forward 3 1/2 years later and like a good loyal soldier I found myself back at the same dealership. This time I went in with a printout of the 2016 Elantra Limited I built on Hyundais online site. I was feeling confident I could finally get that color combination I had wanted back in Nov. 2011... NOPE!! The dealer searched around for my color combo and basically in so many words told me the closest location they could find my color combination was about 1,800 miles away in Oklahoma City. WHAT??? I figured I still and some time until my lease ended so I told them I was not in an immediate rush so they had time to get the vehicle (or one in that color combo) to Philadelphia. That suggestion was all but brushed off and I was basically given (once again!) the impression I would need to settle on a different color combination... I ended up in another vehicle that was NOT a Hyundai. My well maintained 2012 leased vehicle with 16,000 miles under the allowed mileage went back to the dealer and months later I receive a bill in the mail from Hyundai Finance totaling $850.20!! $380.00 for Excess Wear and Tear, $400.00 disposition fee and taxes totaling $70.20. As for the Excess Wear and Tear, did I mention my vehicle was well maintained? My carpets were NEVER even stepped on since the entire interior was lined with rubber flooring! There were no tears and/or burns to any seating surfaces. There were no dents and any scratches could be classified as your run of the mill light surface marks all finishes encounter at some point! With all that said, the biggest sticking point for me is that disposition fee. Or as I like to call it, a monetary gun to a consumers head to assure you NEVER leave their side. If Hyundai had such a wonderful product, the need to place a monetary gun to ones head to assure loyalty to the brand should not be necessary!!! Needless to say, I will NOT be a Hyundai customer again and my wife who is presently a Hyundai owner will not own a Hyundai in the future... at least not while I am breathing!! FINAL THOUGHT... Would you get into bed with Charles Manson? Venturing in to an auto lease with Hyundai can be eerily similar...
I purchased Hyundai Accent that was a couple of years old and a dull gray. Used car to run back and forth to work. It ran well all in all. We have since given the car to our daughter to use to drive back and forth to college. It is small with better mileage than other vehicles have owned. Some it was a couple years old we were able to get the car at a reasonable cost. Payments were manageable at $250 per month. However, car would not accelerate on hills well. The smaller size made traveling with the family tight sometimes.
I have a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo and it kept stalling while in drive. My seats started cracking after only 6 months. My resonator and exhaust has to be replaced with less than 6000 miles on it. Hyundai definitely needs to recall this vehicle because my car has been back and forth in the shop due to the mechanics solely depending on computer codes to find whats wrong. Do it the old way. Actually look at the components and parts of the car. It should not take almost 3 weeks to figure out the grounding wires were bad.
I am the original owner of my 2011 Hyundai Sonata. There has been recall after recall. In August of 2016, Hyundai completed the Campaign 143 Recall (Power Steering). Within a couple of weeks after, my steering wheel starting making clicking noises when I turned. Right after that, my air bag light came on. Shortly after, my steering wheel started shaking when I went over any bumps. Now it is so bad (the shaking) that my steering wheel acts like it is going to pop off of the car when I go over a speed bump! So between the clicking, air bag, and violent shaking, this car feels incredibly unsafe to drive!I called Hyundai and they asked, What exactly do you want us to do? I asked if there was a recall since thousands of people are having the same issue, and the customer service rep said, There is nothing regarding a recall for this issue. I am so fed up with Hyundai. Every time I get my car back from the dealership after a recall, something else happens. I take excellent care of my car and yet it comes back to me from the dealership worse than when I take it in. When will Hyundai finally issue a recall on this as it is clearly a Hyundai faulty part?
I have a Hyundai Elantra 2006. The air bag light came on without a reason, and when I checked with Hyundai maintenance in Jordan, they said that we should replace the airbag computer and now its broken! It got broken without a reason! This will cost me $750! They cant reset a light or a computer?
Hyundai has sold cars knowingly and not disclosing a defective paint issue. These cars have paint that actually peels right off the body of the car. When Hyundai is contacted they want to pass it off as weather. They know that this defect occurred during the painting process. Please join me in a class action lawsuit forcing Hyundai to recall and be fully responsible for this defect. Please contact the Attorney General in your state and file a complaint. Thank you.
After having a 2016 Hyundai Veloster and having issues with oil consumption we are being told that due to sludge in the motor and supposedly we are needing a new motor that warranty will not cover a replacement and we are expected to be out of pocket $9400. This is absolutely ridiculous and was told by Consumer Affairs that there was no number for corporate who made the final decision to decline our case. Very unprofessional and no way to do business! This is the true definition of loophole! The car is still under the 100,000 or 10 year warranty!! I will be pursuing other resources and what I have to do about this! The ball was dropped and Hyundai doesnt care. They found a way out of doing the warranty work!
My 2016 sonata is a month old. The adaptive cruise system has failed and initiated an emergency stop while driving. The driver door is misaligned and allows road noise into the cabin and water into the sealed part of the door. The drivers side windshield wiper is misaligned and fumbles across the windshield making all sorts of noise. When I went to Hyundai of Serramonte the service clerk directed me first to a body shop. Then to the Hyundai where I purchased the car since it was a different dealer. Then told me the problem was normal and pointed to a far off car and said something like all doors are like that. We then walked over to the other car so I could show him the weather stripping on the other car does not create a gap like is on my car. He then said I can make an appointment if I want and walked off.
My new Hyundai Tucson 2019, 43000 kM, had transmission issue, they do not have parts to fix it, they do not know when the parts will be available, one week and still they do not have an idea when the parts will arrive, even it is under warranty, I called Hyundai directly, but they no information about expected arrival time for my car parts, useless and helpless, I do not recommend anyone to buy Hyundai in future.
I purchased a new 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS in 2005. I also purchased the Hyundai factory extended warranty which covers most of the parts and systems for 10 Years or 100,000 miles, which ever comes first. In the past, I have been very impressed with the customer service and support of Hyundai owners by Hyundai Motor America. However, their new CEO is apparently abandoning the policy of supporting their customers and their good will. Just after the car passed the 100,000 mile mark, the cars thermostat worth around $13 stuck and the radiator was fried. There were no warning lights to alert me to stop driving the car as it was overheating.My Hyundai dealer wanted almost $1,000 to replace the thermostat and radiator. I almost fainted. I called other Hyundai dealers and they told me they heard of this occurring on other Hyundais the same year and model as mine. I called Hyundais customer connection line. After reviewing the case, they refuse to offer any relief. I also noticed that in the customer satisfaction surveys, Hyundai formerly sent their customers after service was done on their car to ensure dealers were doing a good job have ceased. No wonder Hyundai has dropped off the list of Americas 10 Best Selling Cars in 2011 and only has about a 5% share of the US auto market. Taking their valued customers for granted will most likely cost Hyundai dearly in customer loyalty and repeat business.
My Tucson 2017 had a problem with acceleration. The dealership technician inspected the car for and said there is no permanent solution for this problem. Surprisingly they charged $120 for doing nothing on a guaranteed car. And the customer service did not respond to my complaint.
I bought a 2016 Elantra GT right off the lot. I was so proud. My first brand new car. It did great until it reached about 12,000 miles. Then it decided to quit starting. I had it towed to the dealership. The service department was helpful... at first. They did change something with the start button and I picked the car back up. One day later, same thing. Couldnt get it out of my driveway. This started happening June 13, 2016. Since then my car has been in the shop non-stop, except for the 4 times I picked it up and became stranded at various places because it wouldnt start. I went through the BBB as required by Hyundai. The BBB determined that the car needed to be repurchased or traded for the same model. Hyundai offered to repurchase the car in August. I completed all the paperwork requested... every... single... time. The repurchase was supposed to be completed today October 21, 2016.I have called and called every number for Hyundai--no one can help me. My case manager, Kris **, is always out of the office and has called me once. No e-mail, nothing. I have had to rent a car out of pocket for the last 3 weeks, maxing credit cards and cancelling trips with my family. I have never felt so devalued in my life. I dont think Hyundai understands that even though my payment was small to them, not having a reliable car has caused a huge amount of stress for me and so much hardship on my family. As a single mom of two great boys, we have had to cancel trips and reroute funds for the rental car. I am a teacher and have to get to work. Communication would have made a terrible situation much more bearable. Worst service ever... I will never recommend buying a Hyundai to anyone. Please dont. They do not stand behind their word.
We have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited with 30000 kms on it and it has been at the dealership in Fredericton, NB for 7 weeks now waiting for a wiring harness which was diagnosed after replacing the computer and fuel pump. The engine light continues to come on time after time. The wiring harness arrived this week after 7 weeks only to discover Hyundai sent the wrong one after being hand made in Korea. Now they tell me they have another one coming from Alabama, amazing how that got there. On top of this problem, since we bought the car new, we have had constant steering problems with the car which cant seem to be fixed, along with the alternator pulsating and the battery going dead. After contacting Hyundai Canada several times, I keep getting the run around and they will not put me in contact with someone that has some decision making power. This car is unsafe to be on the road as it self accelerates when the engine light is on.
I paid 36,853.00 for a Sonata turbo Tech pack and came with a FOD. Chrome tailpiece rusted within in the first week. I examine carefully several time where this dusty rust came from. Why I have rust particle in top of the tailpipe every day? UMMM To repair I have to paid 400.00 dollars to the body shop to remove the bumper cover and surprise, we found metal shaving in the cavity of the bumper frames were the two bolts hold in place the uni-body and the bumper frame. We have photos and planning to reporting to BBB. Manufacturers corporation sometimes they have angry employee damaging the products to make the company look bad. The quality control department for Hyundai is completely responsible for any FOD left in a car. The dealer was notified, they dont care. I submit all the evidence to Allstate claim department. Total repair 650.00.
Hyundai wasnt my first choice of cars but I only bought it because it was a good deal. I did not buy the car brand new. I got it for a good price. Its good on gas and gets me to where I need to go. I like that it has Bluetooth. I really dont like the look of it. I think that it looks like every other car on the road and theres nothing unique about it. I wish it has heated seats. They make cars these days but its nothing but a piece of plastic.
I purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata March 2015. I had no problems with the car up to a week ago. First my check engine light came on and then a knocking-ticking noise from my engine. I took my car to OReilly and they checked it and informed me it was the camshaft. After then I was driving down the road the noise got louder and then the car stalled. It shut off in the middle of the road. All the lights came on and it STOPPED!My car was towed to a local Hyundai dealership. Spoke to someone this morning and they havent even looked at the car yet. I work 35-40 miles from where I stay and I dont have no other kind of transportation. After further review I found that Hyundai has had a ridiculous amounts of recalls on all of their vehicles even the new ones. I also found out that they recalled over 470,000 Hyundai Sonatas 2011-2012. After reading the reviews of this recall my car is doing the same thing as the 2011-2012 models. I have contacted Hyundai twice and all they are telling me is that my car is not part of that recall. My car is doing the same exact thing. They do not care and it is just ridiculous that there is so many problems. They wont get me a rental or a loaner. I plan to go to everyone news station I can find and report this issue. These cars arent safe or reliable and someone has to speak up and take action!!!
My wife brought our 2008 Hyundai Sonata to the dealer for the annual vehicle State inspection on Monday, January 30, 2012. We purchased this vehicle new at this dealer, and it now has only 30,000 miles. The vehicle failed the inspection due to defective brake lining (brake pads) on both the left and right rear brakes. My inspection, the following day, confirmed that indeed the rear brake pads were almost non-existent while the front pads showed hardly any wear.I have owned many cars in my lifetime and put over 100K miles on many. I have only replaced brakes four times in all these years, but I never on a vehicle with only 30,000 miles. Suspecting a manufacturers defect, I searched the internet for other complaints about the Hyundai rear brakes and found numerous forums on the subject, leading me to agree with the conclusions of others that this is a manufacturers defect and a recall should be issued. I found 29 similar complaints on NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation. To my knowledge, Hyundai is ignoring this obvious safety issue as well as the cost to consumers for repairs that should be unnecessary for low-mileage cars such as ours.I am hoping enough pressure can be brought to bear on Hyundai to issue a recall. I have filed a complaint with NHTSA-ODI, contacted our State Attorney Generals Office, and complained to Hyundais consumer support department.
I bought my 2011 Sonata SE in April 2010. At about 55K the automatic transmission began shifting harshly. Within about 2 weeks the shifting had become a hard bang and the car was undriveable. The dealer spent three days diagnosing it but were not able to determine the cause. The manufacturer authorized them to replace the transmission. Over the months that followed, usually at highway speeds, the vehicle routinely surged in RPM from 2000 to 5500, but did not surge in speed.Two weeks ago, at 91K, the vehicle began to experience very delayed shifting from 1st/2nd and 2nd/3rd, surging in RPM before each shift so that when the shift occurred the vehicle speed increased excessively creating a jack rabbit start. This week while driving at highway speed the transmission jolted dramatically, the speed dropped, and the RPMs rose. I figured it had gone into limp-home mode. I parked the car, verified that it was in 4th (by placing it in the manual shift position), and called the dealership. I let the vehicle sit for a couple of hours and found that it drove normally. I took it to the dealership where they pulled codes which indicated an incorrect setting for gear ratio at 6th gear. This seemed odd to me since thats all electronically/programmatically determined, and it made me wonder if they had downloaded the most current transmission control module program when they installed the second transmission. They are now installing the third transmission under the 100K Powertrain warranty. I have not yet been notified to pick up the car.I am very concerned for several reasons: (1) The erratic transmission behavior has me afraid to drive the car, especially at highway speeds. (2) I am very concerned that sometime in the next 35K to 55K Im going to have to replace the transmission - and that it may fail due to not being properly programmed or installed. I have not yet heard back from Hyundai Consumer Affairs.
I have had four Hyundais. Two now have had the engines go out. My 2012 Sonata Hybrid and my 2015 Elantra GLS. Ticking in the engine turns into a blown engine. They have only released recalls on the Sonata several years after I had to sell it.
Two weeks ago we were driving and all of a sudden the engine shut off, no warning lights were on at all at the time this happened. We had Hyundai Roadside assistance tow the vehicle, (waited 2 hours for them) to the closest Hyundai dealer. The next day the dealer called and said the engine was shot, and they had to take it apart to send pictures to the corporate office. 5 days later they called and said Hyundai denied the warranty for Lack of Maintenance. The car only as 46,000 miles, and we have had oil changes. The dealer said they found sludge in the engine. Hyundai never asked for any receipts for oil changes, and just denied the claim. I then called the 800 customer service number, to be told that there was nothing they could do, all complaints were handled through the Better Business Bureau. I asked to speak with whomever denied the claim and they refused. So now I have a complaint into the BBB, but Hyundai has not responded. I dont understand how they advertise the best warranty and then deny all claims. I have researched the internet and found many people has had the same thing happen to them. How is this legal? Our vehicle is leased, so they know we have to fix it before the end of the lease. This seems like a scam, since we have to fix it. We also found at least 5 other Hyundai owners who reported the exact same symptoms as ours on the same make, all of which were denied by Hyundai. I will never buy another Hyundai, they are criminals running a huge scam. Dont believe the salesman when they tell you they have the best warranty. They dont honor it. Dealer told me there is nothing they can do to help. They said that they have seen sludge in the engine in other Hyundais and ours was not that out of the ordinary. However they claim their hands are tied, and all warranty decisions are made by corporate.
I own a 2008 Tucson. I needed a small suv so I could see the traffic ahead, but some suvs were too big/High. With a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, the company believes in its product and my experience proves it.
If you are reading this - Please do not finance with this company. About 3 years ago, a mistake on their end (on their website) returned my payment. The excuse they gave me was we only had the last four digits of your account number and therefore could not process your payment. Well, the entire account number was there, but the digits in front were shown as Xs, so my account number looked like this - XXXXXXXXXXX-0000. When I explained to them this was the issue, they reversed the late fee. You would think after this that the company would fix the issue.Well, this happened again recently in the beginning of April (2014). I was given the same excuse. They reversed the fee. I then made another payment (for two months). I made sure the account number, routing number, and checking number were absolutely correct (even have an email confirmation with all the information on it). This payment didnt go through again, and this time they will not reverse the fee. I repeatedly asked them for the reason why the payment did not go through. First I was told insufficient funds. Then I was told only last four digits were available. Then I was told the account number was wrong. When I repeatedly asked them for what account number they were given for the returned payments, they said they didnt have it on file. So how do you know it was wrong if you cant even check it in the first place? After several emails and phone calls, and a phone call with a supervisor named John, they absolutely refused to waive the returned payment fee.After the first payment was returned in early April, Hyundai Motor Finance should have immediately told me if something went wrong with the second payment (instead of waiting to hit me with a late fee/returned payment fee). Nothing showed on their website until AFTER they hit me with yet another fee. This is a real shame since Im happy with Hyundai Motors of America and my local dealership. However, if the dealerships are urging people to finance with this company, they too should be held accountable for poor customer service. They are refusing to do anything further. This issue is not resolved.To everyone reading this, avoid financing with this company. They truly do not care about their customers.
I purchased a new (only 100 kms) 2009 Sante Fe last year that had been sitting on a dealers lot for two years. It is a standard front wheel drive and thats why they say it wouldnt sell because no one wanted a standard, but I did. Since my purchase (I now have 30,000 km), there has been a bad vibration between 80km-120 km. You can see the passenger seat and the back one shacking. I phoned the dealership I purchased it from who is 3.5 hours away from me and they told me that it was the tires and it was up to me to replace. (This was after several balances out of my own pocket.) So luckily, I found a good tire dealership whose tire rep said he would replace the tires at no charge. This did not fix the problem. So to save time and money, I went to a Red Deer Hyundai dealership (only 45 minutes away) and for the last four months, they have been trying to resolve it. I now have new motor mounts, new wheel bearings, two new axles and when that didnt work, they tried the transmission! When they opened it, it was all rusted and there were two rocks inside? They were baffled but figured a new transmission would fix it. It did not! So here I am today with my unsatisfactory car and an empty wallet! What do I do next? The dealership is at a loss and Hyundai Canada just keeps calling the dealership relaying the information I already know! I have had to take numerous days off work and so much fuel to travel back and forth to the dealership. Someone please help me! I would sell the vehicle but who would buy a vehicle that vibrates. Im so stuck and it makes me sick that I spent this kind of money and have horrible results.
I purchased my 2015 Sonata in January of 2016. After 3 days of ownership I noticed the panoramic roof was rattling, I returned to the dealership and the sales person said the car was just having some growing pains (this is the 3rd car I have owned with a pano roof - 05 Scion Tc and 14 Sonata Limited). I took him for his word and took a short road trip and the rattle only got worse. At 1822 miles I returned to the dealership and complained about the roof, and I was rewarded with the services manager telling me the 15s have been having issues with their pano roofs. They lubed everything up and told me they would call me when they had a fix. At 3998 (3/17/16) miles I returned to the dealership with the issue growing worse, once again Hyundai lubed the seals and said it was fixed. At this point I had enough and contacted Hyundais customer hotline and filed a complaint, and Hyundai didnt bother to respond. Shortly after my roof sustained some damage from debris and the dealership refused to work on it. They even joked around about maybe once the insurance company fixed my roof the rattle would go away. Once again I contacted customer care and filed a complaint warning of a lemon law violation. My case was passed on and I called back every single day for almost a month until I had someone return my call. Hyundai agreed to replace my entire roof under warranty, this was done in 8/8/16 at 10161 miles. Hyundai agreed to place their best warranty on the car at no cost to me and assured me the roof was fixed. A few weeks later the rattle slowly started to come back, it slowly got worse and the dealership in several undocumented occasions lubed up the seals. Once again I called customer care and spoke with their regional person who was helping me and raised my concerns. He agreed to send a engineer out to check my roof and if he determined the rattle was there Hyundai was going to buy back my car. On 3/6/17 I dropped my car off with an ever present rattle and picked it back up on 3/7/17 only to be informed that the rattle was not found by their engineer. On 3/8 Hyundai denied my claim for a buy back stating the roof was working as it is designed to do. Now I have to file a BBB complaint to get this issue resolved.
I purchased a new Hyundai Elantra 1 year ago, drove just over 20,000 highway miles; and already the tires need to be replaced! When I bought the car, all the salesman (Murdock Hyundai in Murray, Utah) could do was say how dependable and reliable everything on the Elantra is now. He was right, except for the tires!
I purchased a Hyundai Sonata 2014 and the motor went out after 7 month. I got 3 oil changes in the 7 months by certified car shops and it was under the warranty miles and Hyundai said they wont fix it and it was the customer myself who needed to fix it. They said for them to fix it, it will be 6000 dollars and on top of that I still have my car payments of 400 a month.
I have had my Veloster for 1.75 years and in the last two months, it has been in the shop now two times to have the fuel pump replaced. This time, a week while the tech talked with the company tech because they didnt know what was wrong, decided to replace the fuel pump again but mentioned it had two fuel pumps. I cant find anything about a second fuel pump. I am really concerned as it at times wont go over 20 mph and this good be very dangerous on the freeway. I love the car but not real happy about this problem which is now become reoccurring!
Hyundai has the worst leasing programs in the business. Do not fall for their lease plan. My wife turned her Equis recently. The car was 12,000 miles under so she thought she was fine. She had the Hyundai dealer wash the car when she took it in for an oil change. They used a pressure washer and took some of the pearl white off the plastic bumper. The manager said they have had issues with this paint and not to worry. Hyundai sent a person out to look at her car and write it up. She wrote down the paint issue. She said it needed a new tire. The tire in question was well within the safe range. Note that this vehicle was known to have under equipped tires on them and she kept the same when she replaced them. After 24,000 miles she had purchased two sets of tires. The Equis was their top of the line vehicle and their bottom of the line vehicles had more bells and whistles on them. My wife had asked before purchasing the vehicle about all of the things like bluetooth and was assured it had it but the salesman didnt know how to work it. That was a lie. She went back the day after purchasing the vehicle and was told Too bad, were sorry. Cant do anything about it. I will say it was the best driving vehicle weve had and I did enjoy it. The problem was the Hyundai Lease, they lie, cheat and dig into your back pocket. DO NOT LEASE THROUGH HYUNDAI. Purchase the vehicle outright or find another lease option. My wife showed the Texas Hyundai Lease manager her original correspondence and how Hyundai Lease didnt get back to her the first week she had it. They do not care about you, just the money.We are waiting on a recall for the white paint to get our money back. Tire places including the dealership said the tire in question was within code. The dealership said they would have waived all of the issues Hyundai Lease found. Remember, youre getting the car from a dealership but youre dealing with Hyundai underhand Lease.
I have a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. It has about 140,000 miles on it and is admittedly well outside of any warranty. However, I believe this case requires an exception. About a year ago, the paint started chipping off my car. Not little scratches but fairly large spots. I contacted Hyundai who said it was outside the warranty, and I let it go. Last Saturday, during a hard rain, the paint literally fell off my car. My husband drove to Columbus that day, and when he arrived, the paint had vanished from the entire roof. Patches came off of the hood as well. And the trunk is beginning to peel. I am told this is a delamination issue related to metal paint preparation. While I realize that the car is outside the warranty, I stand by my statement that no matter how many miles a car has on it, the paint should not come off in the rain! Hyundai refuses to even refer the case to a supervisor.. Normal wear and tear happens, and I accept that. But this is clearly a factory defect, and I think Hyundai should be responsible for fixing it. I am interested in finding others with similar experience to approach Hyundai together.
I have a 2012 Genesis Coupe 3.8 loaded.. leather interior, etc... The car is only 2.5 years old. The back seat leather started to fade about a year after I bought the car. The front seats started to fade and rip about the same time. I had to give the service dept. bad rating in order to get their attention. They agreed to repair the back seats but refuse to repair the front seats. Im the only one in the car 95% of the time. Ive owned many cars with leather interior. Ive NEVER had such experience where the interior quality is so poor that it falls apart on its own. Im so frustrated with them that Im ready to trade the car in and get something else. This car has been sub-standard in quality and overall value. I would recommend that you stay away from this make until they cleanup their act. Very disappointed.
