Subaru says no WRX STI for this generation
[BACK]

Posted On: March 11, 2022
Subaru on Friday announced that the current-generation Subaru WRX won't get a higher-performance STI model for this generation.
The reason? The company is examining how "future sports and performance cars should evolve to meet the needs of the changing marketplace and the regulations and requirements for greenhouse gasses (GHG), zero emissions vehicles (ZEV), and Corporate Average Fuel Economy," Subaru said in a statement.
As part of that shift, the next STI won't come off the platform of the latest WRX, which just arrived earlier this year. While the new WRX rides on a version of the Subaru Global Platform that serves everything from the Impreza compact sedan to Ascent mid-size crossover, Subaru says it is farther afield of the Impreza platform than it has ever been. The rear structure is stiffer, and Subaru uses four-times as much body adhesive to improve improve front lateral rigidity by 14% and overall torsional rigidity by 28%. Apparently, only the WRX will benefit from those changes.
However, it doesn't appear the STI will fade away as the company said it is exploring opportunities for the next STI, including electrification. The company also said it also looks "forward to incorporating the essence of STI into our next generation of vehicles," so perhaps the rally-bred STI lineup will expand or influence other vehicles.
Subaru Solterra STI concept
Earlier this year the company gave a strong suggestion of the form that will take—in the debut of an STI E-RA road and racing concept, and in the display of a Solterra STI concept.
The news comes as a shock as we expected the next STI to be revealed any time now after we drove the WRX earlier this year. We expected a possible bump in horsepower from the 310 of the last model, the use of those adaptive dampers, and improved handling based on the changes to the WRX platform.
Perhaps the move explains the addition of the GT model atop the 2022 WRX lineup. The GT will feature adjustable dampers, a first for the WRX, an updated continuously variable automatic transmission the company calls the Subaru Performance Transmission, a transmission cooler, and Recaro bucket seats. For the time being, that will be the best performing WRX.

Me and my 12 year old had a lady pull out in front of us in my 2012 Subaru
Me and my 12 year old had a lady pull out in front of us in my 2012 Subaru Forester. We ended up hitting a telephone pole on the drivers side. Thank goodness but my side impact air bag did not deploy, I was slammed into the pole very hard and I was doing 20mph when I started down the hill, factor in the velocity of the slide on ice and snow and I was doing well over the 8mph needed to deploy the air bag. I hit hard enough to crumple the rocker sill inside the door and snap the bumper clips and flatten the front tire. We had seat belt bruises of course, my daughter hurt her knee on the door, I injured my arm and shoulder, and slammed my head violently. When I contacted Subaru about this, they did not seem overly concerned, Im still yelling at them about this. I dont know about anyone else but I feel this is a serious malfunction. Ive had other problems too, faulty seatbelts, engine running rough and smelling bad, brakes going bad, stalling, loss of power. And every time I take it back to the dealer, they say we cant do anything, the check engine light is not on. To say the least, this is the most frustrating thing Ive ever heard it makes me want to pull my hair out. I bought my Subaru because Ive owned 3 older ones like 80s and they were good old beaters ya know, so I figured Id buy a newer one. Mine only had 20,000 on it, like new. I wish Id never bought this car, what a mistake.Anyone else feel this way, these big companies always getting away with rooking us little guys? I even contacted a lawyer, he said good luck. Im like really? they almost killed me. I think Im going to try to take them on myself!!! Anyone else interested? If you are write to me **. Im so sick of these guys rooking everyone. You pay 30,000 for a car, it shouldnt be a piece of junk death trap that stalls and does hesitates when you step on it so you can get hit by people real nice. But ya know the check engine light isnt on so we cant fix it. Hey I have no brakes. Well the brakes look good to us we cant help you. Really??? God, such crap.

My wife was driving our brand new 2014 Outback. She went slightly off the road and attempted to engage the break release to allow the four wheel to kick in and get out of the small depression she was in. She couldnt get it to work. She called a towing service. They came out and a young man got in the car and engaged the transmission apparently thinking that by moving forward and backward he could get the car out without pulling it out with the truck. In a few minutes the car started smoking and within a few more minutes flames appeared that couldnt be put out with the tow truck fire extinguisher. The car burned up-a total loss. It was a frightening experience for my wife and makes us wonder how this car could possible erupt into flames. Anyone out there with any insight?

My son Jake was killed in 2013 in a Subaru Outback in Montana. The commercial Subaru has on TV when they show a smashed up Subaru and all they say is THEY LIVED OR THEY SURVIVED. Well my son didnt live! Do you have any idea how disturbing that commercial is to me??? Every time it comes on the TV I relive the day I got the news my son was killed in a Subaru. Please, is there any way it can be taken off the TV? Im sure Im not the only person that has lost a loved one in a Subaru.

I leased a 2012 Subaru, signed a contract, and took the vehicle home. The dealership messed up the contract, lied about it to get me to sign another contract under the guise that it was a better deal for me. The truth of the matter is that they either made a mistake, or they are running a scam to get you to sign one contract, take the vehicle, then offer you another contract within a few weeks, or they are just incompetent and unprofessional. When I decided that I did not want the new contract, they became angry and rude. The general manager assured me that he would take care of it, but he did not and I had their company calling me about a vehicle that I had returned (2009 Subaru) to the Subaru dealer a month earlier. The vehicle was on their lot and in their possession. I have returned the new 2012 vehicle because of how I was treated and because the general manager, during his shouting match with me indicated that if that was the way I felt, he did not want to do business with me anyway. I am glad you have enough Subaru business that you can afford to throw away customers who purchased 3 Subarus within four years. I will make it one of my goals in life to make sure that people know you do not want business from me or people like me. Of interest, is that a similar situation happened with this same dealership three years ago. At that time, a few weeks after the 2009 car was purchased, the finance manager called and indicated that he had made a mistake on the contract and that the payment should be higher. Once again, I refused and told him that I had a contract, and he could not go back and change the terms of that contract. What is going on at Subaru AutoBarn of Countryside, Illinois? Are they incompetent, or crooked or both? They definitely could use some training in customer service as you have just lost two customers. Since I have returned the 2012 Subaru last week, I am in the market for an SUV. Guess what, it wont be a Subaru. Someone should investigate further the practices of Subaru Autobarn of Countryside, Illinois. I know I will be continuing my investigation and legal options. Not only am I angry, as noted above, I am inconvenienced and suspicious. I did not check the first box below because I am pursuing all options including legal options. Yes, an attorney can contact me about my complaint.

I have been taking my Subaru Legacy 2011 to the Subaru service center for the fifth time with the same problem, hard shifting from park to reverse, engine shakes and lights dim, put into drive and get a flutter like cold start after engine warms up for five minutes, also while driving come to a stop and engine shuts off. Service center kept my car for four days and still am having the same problem.

I bought a 2004 Impreza WRX from Grayson Subaru in Knoxville Tennessee , with an extended warranty with only 37,976 miles than at 41,890 miles. Major engine repairs costing $3152 than at 50, 052 miles, major engine repair costing $6,037.93 than an inspection of there work costing only $51.07 than at 58,061 miles. Needed a new turbo costing $1,600 than at 60,824 miles oil leak costing $845.09 than at 62,634 miles same oil leak costing $1,331.40, and now the car has had major engine failure again including the turbo. I change the oil when its needed between 3000 and 4500 miles. And now youre telling me its my fault . Can someone help me out for me to a good east Tennessee lawyer that can help me out to claim my money back from Grayson Subaru in Knoxville Tennessee?

I purchased my 2005 Impreza 2.5RS wagon new in 11/04. I now have 122,000 miles on it and aside from normal maintenance and minor repairs, the car has been fantastic and inexpensive to own. Another new Subaru will be at the top of my shopping list when the time for a new car comes.

I bought a 2015 Subaru brand new thinking it will last forever. Just told I need a new transmission and itll cost 7000 dollars. I still owe 10000 on it. What a joke. This car should last 300,000 not 130,000.

Ive owned 5 Subarus including 2 Foresters. Three of my Subarus had 105,000; 121,000; and 167,000 miles respectively. Absolutely no problems. Youd think I could expect more than 90,000 miles on my 2009 Forester. No such luck. It experienced not just an engine failure, but a catastrophic engine failure. It was a total engine disintegration - crank, rods, cam journal, etc. All this with Mobil 1 synthetic oil and Subaru oil filters every 4,500-6,000 miles.Repair estimate is $6,200. Attaway Subaru. Well see what assistance Subaru corporate will offer. Other Asian manufacturers, GM and Chrysler, offer 5-year/100,000-mile warranty. I guess Subaru is so proud of its products it only offers a 60,000-mile drive train warranty. Also, the interior finish on the doors and dash is wearing off. Both fog lamp lenses cracked within a month and the auto dimming mirror failed outside of the warranty. I get parts at cost and its still $147. More to come with Subaru.

We are very disappointed with our first Subaru. Weve had it about 3 months and I cant count the times we were coming out from shopping and the rear hatch would not open no matter what we did. No 65 year old should have to load groceries by crawling to the back from the passenger door. The dealer wants you to bring it in to reset it every time but after searching this major issue online I found a way to reset it myself. This needs to be addressed by Subaru, its such a pain as well as some other features that dont always work. Im about ready to take it back, thats how frustrated we are with it. First time buying anything but Ford or Chevy products the past 45 years, that wont happen again.

After 21,000 miles my vehicle has had to have the engine replaced along with other major parts. Initially, when I received my vehicle back, it had to be returned the same day. Its because the mechanics at Garcia Subaru of El Paso failed to lock the major coolant hose. It caused my car with a new engine to run hot and coolant to spill all over the new engine. When I received my vehicle back the 2nd time, the turbo was not working and the performance of my car was less than it was, prior to this major repair.

I have a 2011 Outback and I first had to add a quart of oil around 95K miles. My son in law said that they probably didnt fill it full when my oil was changed last. So I think anything of it although I told them about it and brought it for an oil change. They didnt bother to tell me about excess oil consumption while I was under an extended warranty. So I got the full synthetic oil change and was told the next change is due in 7K miles. At 4000 mi. the oil light came on and it was 2 quarts low! I am furious that I was not told about this while was under a warranty! Now I have 103K mi. and they probably wont offer any assistance. Also, it almost dies (like a slow idle?) when I stop for a stop light or even a stop sign. It has done this since 39K and they can never diagnose it. It is getting pretty persistent. Does anyone know what this could be? They say it doesnt happen when they test drive it and the computer does not show anything. My guess is, now the warranty is over, they can diagnose it right away! Never another Subaru!!

Subaru - love the car, hate the company! This is just the latest issue I had to deal with on my wifes 2014 Outback Limited with the special appearance package, a car that stickers for close to $37,000. In hindsight, I should have bought a Lexus NX for that price! I have had countless issues with stupid things in this car. The AC broke and the first time they fixed the car, they pulled a part off another car on the sales lot (really?). Every wheel molding installed by the factory fell off. The rear storage plastic covers all fell apart. I have had multiple sensor issues including the one described below. The list goes on. And the closest dealer is an hour away so if they never take your word for anything and they never stock parts in house, so every fix requires a minimum of 4 trips. My last experience was actually four trips to a dealer 2 hours away.In fact, I was right the whole time every time and in this last experience, dealer tested the issue using a tire pressure gauge, one who he admitted was faulty. A simple, cheap TPMS troubleshooting tool would have avoided everything listed below. Why? Because one of the sensor batteries was low, but they were incompetent in finding it. Perhaps this email sent to the dealer says it all:Just as an FYI... I just responded to the Subaru of North America survey with the following statement: Dot was the WORST representative you can hire to help your customers. She is adamant about protecting Subarus resources than solving a customers safety issue, regardless of policy. If leaving your customers high and dry with a valid safety issue that causes frequent distractions to whether my wife is low on gas, TPMS, etc. is UNACCEPTABLE!! I had to sneak around DOT in order to get to a manager of the team who is now at least providing the resource of time towards my issue.I DEEPLY fear my issue will not be resolved, despite my photographic proof of the issue that is FALSELY causing safety alerts during my wifes driving of the vehicle. I explained this inexcusable behavior by Subaru has now put my future trust in Subaru in serious jeopardy. This is my second Subaru, my first being a Saab 9-2x, which makes this car my first with Subaru directly. With a car being allowed to travel on the roads with a serious safety issue is unquestionably irresponsible of your company. And Dot makes sure I do not get the help needed. She was yelling at me and a disgrace of your organization.REPLACE TPMS sensors immediately under warranty. I am at a loss at what else there is to do. This is the position I am now in. If there is any way we can escalate this within the Subaru executive organization, it would be greatly appreciated. I cannot fathom giving my wife her car back with this serious safety issue questioning her constantly whether or not her tires are safe based on the continued false TPMS sensors, only because you are unable to reproduce the issue, despite my three documented and photographed incidents SINCE leaving your service center on my last two visits. Despite the policy, I am seeking replacements of the TPMS sensors to give my wife the safety and security she needs as safety is our number one concern when purchasing a vehicle.Whatever we need to do, please lets continue to push for escalation wherever possible. Subaru has a responsibility to stand behind the safety of their vehicles under warranty. While my wifes car is in your dealership service center right now for the third time in three consecutive weeks, you have the opportunity to make this right. You have the proof it happened three times after leaving your dealership, that is all that should be required for replication of the issue.

I have had to repair a leaking head gasket when car had 180,000 kilometers and also replaced back axle when had 160,000 kilometers. These were both very costly repairs. I am disappointed with Subaru and dont think their reputation is deserved.

I own a 2013 Outback 2.5. I drive a ton for work, family and fun. Like 30k per year. Pretty quickly I realized my car was going through a lot of oil. Oil light was going on at 2,500 miles. The dealership said it was probably because of the amount of miles I drove. I would just add the oil. At 90,000 miles my transmission was making a horrible whiny noise that got worse. They said I needed a new transmission because they cant fix the CVT. It is an all enclosed unit. They said it would cost about $8,000.00 but would talk with Subaru about getting some help. It still cost me $2,000.00 and I was driving a loaner for about three weeks. At 110,000 miles I get a letter in the mail about a Class Action lawsuit regarding the oil consumption issue. I take it to the dealer as directed. They changed the oil and I bring it back after 1250 miles so they can verify oil consumption. What do you know, my car goes through too much oil! They replaced the small block for no charge. I had my car back in three days. My point is that I was less than happy about the issues my car had, but more than happy with Subarus and my dealers response to those issues.

Love my 2012 Outback. So, I bought a 2013. Big mistake! Different engine, same number of cylinders. The salesperson was more than happy to boast the gas mileage and make sure I would follow the maintenance schedule. No mention that I would have to add up to 1 quart of expensive synthetic oil every 1200 miles! It IS in the owners manual. My oil lamp has come on every 1000 miles since purchase. I was accusing my lube shop of under-filling until I read the page in the manual. If I knew, I would not have purchased this one. Oil change interval is now 7500 miles. Engine holds 4.1 quarts. So, by the manual, I may need 4.88 quarts before the next change. They consider this normal? They started an oil consumption test. They overfilled the engine! That means extra pressure on the seals. Not to mention padding the test! I was to come back in 1200 miles for them to gauge the oil consumption. Consume oil?!? Burning oil is not good for the combustion chamber is it? They even know why and have published a fix. Need recall.

About 5 minutes after I left the Subaru dealership I knew that my 2014 Forester that I owned for 3 years was not running properly. Eventually I found out the dealership upgraded some software because of an imaginary idle problem. Now Im left with a car with much less acceleration and power, and to boot a 20-30% reduction in mpg. There are several other problems too. Subarus was response was not acceptable: Nothing we can do. The person handling the case had no interest from second one. In the past they have helped with serious issues. This is their software, they are responsible for getting the car back to the previous running condition.

I have found many things I hate about my Subaru. The biggest is you cant use any of the devices unless the car is running and you are burning gasoline. You cant listen to the radio or charge your phone or use your gps or talk on your phone through the radio. I used that for 10 minutes and my battery was dead. The heater does throw heat on your feet. There is a tube about an inch wide that comes down beside the console and that is all the heat you get. If you are in a hard rain storm, you cant see because the wipers do not run that fast. I have an SUV and the back hatch is so difficult to open or shut, I have to put everything down to open or shut it. I bought this vehicle due to Consumer Reports data. They apparently do not look at things like this. I hate it. Anytime I ask Subaru, they say that is just the way Subarus are. Now my radio screen has squiggly lines all over it. So bad I cannot see to back up or see the channel on the radio if the sun is shining on it. They said, Well, the radio works, doesnt it. If we were talking about a 57 Chevy, yes, I can hear the radio. But this vehicle radio is supposed to do other things and it does not because you cannot see them. This item I believe cuts into resale value. Anyone thinking of buying a Subaru should check out these items. If they are ok with them, fine. But I was not told nor did I think to check them before I purchased and Subarus do not come cheap.

Subaru Forester 2015 got broken windshield after 1 1/2 years. I went to a glass dealer who contacted Safeco Insurance who approved replacement. Then 1 year later, the EyeSight started giving trouble. Eventually it quit working altogether. The Subaru repair place said the problem was an aftermarket windshield I had purchased and they would not fix the EyeSight until I replaced the windshield with a Subaru brand windshield which cost about $1000. The Subaru man said the glass and insurance companies all know about this. But the glass companies say they have no problem with aftermarket glass and Safeco says they take no responsibility unless I use one of their approved glass companies. So now I have a Subaru with no cruise control with all of the companies telling me that the EyeSight problem is my fault because I didnt know to get an official Subaru windshield by an approved Safeco installer and they wont fix the EyeSight until I make everything right again at my trouble and expense. I dont believe the windshield has anything to do with the EyeSight failure.

Can describe this car in two words: HATE IT. The driver seat is so uncomfortable Ive bought a cushion and even that doesnt help (aside from now pushing my head up against the ceiling). There is something in the seat bottom that pushes on the nerves right below my buttocks that make my butt and lower back scream in agony. Unfortunately on a test drive you dont find this out and sitting there for longer than 15-20 minutes it soon becomes very apparent. This makes being in the car torture. The other thing is the EyeSight. Great safety feature set but it is really super annoying to hear the damn car beep for one thing or another that it is warning you about. It does this constantly. You can turn off all of the features, but then why pay for this expensive option if you have to do this? They need to have a better way of informing the driver like Cadillac uses with a seat vibration. Also the window lock feature (a must with kids) is so ass-backwards. If you activate it, none of the window controls work including the drivers controls! You have to unlock it, do a window, then lock it again. Other cars the driver controls continue to work. So stupid. The Starlink feature is also convoluted and has so many apps and functions with menus and submenus that you need the EyeSight working because you cant drive and work the thing without seriously having an accident. Talk about distractions. And even though it is keyless entry and push-button start, it does not have a remote start function, not even as an option which extremely odd as pretty much every other manufacturer that has this type of system does this, and the door locks are from 1980 because you cannot program them for any option at all. They dont lock when in gear, they dont unlock when you turn off the motor, and they dont lock when you walk away. I am constantly leaving the car unlocked while driving and the places I drive thats a real safety issue. Remembering to do this on a car that is rich in features is a bit mind-boggling. I thought I was buying a good car, but after reading all the issues other Subaru owners are having I seriously want to dump this POS car tomorrow and Im not too impressed with the dealer because buying this new it took them 3 weeks to schedule me in to fix a fog light defect. Great way to welcome a new customer! So based on my experience and reading what others are going through I will never buy a Subaru again. Terrible, terrible car.

We bought a 2015 Outback 3.6R Limited while it was on the train to Dellenbach in Ft. Collins, CO in Dec of 2014. My wife drove all the way up there in the snow from Littleton to avoid the poor reputation dealerships in the metro area. My wifes father totalled our old car and I talked the wife out of buying the 4Runner we both truly wanted for something a little more economical. Our teenage son was still driving my moms old 1999 Impreza Outback with 330k on it, so reliability didnt seem to be as much of a factor as much as the safety. While we lived in CO, not many issues aside from a windshield that is paper thin and cracks if you spit on it and snow gets wedged in the wheel wells just as bad as the old Subaru. Then spring came and we started having issues with the rear lift gate. The not so friendly or helpful employees at a particular stealership on Arapahoe and Dry Creek were defensive and accusatory trying to say we had the memory set. Take it up there and get a recall on the ridiculous eyesight programming, just for them to tell us they cant duplicate the lift gate failure. Of course not! You just unhooked the battery which resets the system! We just put up with the occasional rear gate for a year, I keep the oil and filters fresh and we move to the heat of AZ. The rear gate has been getting worse to the point that it rarely ever works no matter what pattern or manual intervention you do. Now our rear gate is completely useless. The dealership in Chandler is great and has noticed the latching being brisk and misaligned. BUT of course, they cant do anything about it until their body shop opens. Enough. First Bru purchase from us but many in the family over the years, this will be the final. All of the others have been traded or sold, we cant wait to get out of this car as well. We dont care about the electronics or the gimmicks, we wanted a reliable and functional vehicle like we had with our Camry. We will be driving back to CO to sell this car where we can get a better price for it and go shopping. Toyota quality has degraded over the years, it looks like the influence by Toyota Motor Corp is starting to show in Subarus product lines. Too bad, we wanted to like this super ugly car, it is comfy, drives ok for a boring CVT and the mileage is amazing. Cheap parts, poor assembly and lack of customer service makes our Subaru feel like a Chevrolet. Love. Its what makes Subaru owners wish they had their old cars back.

With a 20+ year old Subaru and a 3 year old one I have unbelievable confidence in this brand. Other than an alternator failure there have been no issues. The number of winter situations they have gotten us through is a start, but the new ones safety features instill security and confidence.

I never had any problems with my Subaru 2007 Forester. However, one day, after I drove it 12 miles to work, 12 miles to go back home, 6 miles to park and ride my bike, and another 6 miles to go home--the next morning, it was broken. The dealership claims over heating and warped cylinder head--it never over heated, ever. It is costing me $3,587 to repair. Has this happened across Subarus? Should there be a recall on 2007 Foresters? Could it really not be covered under warranty? I keep my car in good condition, check the water and oil and I have proof of oil changes--the last one was 06 July 11. All this happened on 01 Sept 11. Can you help me?

I recently purchased a used 2010 Tribeca 3.6 L engine, my first Subaru, and am rather pleased except for a howl in my automatic transmission. The sound changes as goes up through gears and especially noticeable from start through 2nd. Dealer has determined it is the alternator since engine speed also changes as gears change. Cannot believe any auto manufacturer would make their top of the line touring vehicle with this howl or whine as I have been told by others. Either way a defective alternator OR transmission needs to be replaced.

It has always been at least a two week wait for an appointment. Now its 30 days. Really??? I was also given the option of just leaving my car there for a week. They might get to it per the person answering the phone. I purchased an extended warranty which is about to run out. Now all of a sudden my headlight wont come on. I took to a mechanic and he tests and determines its the switch which is over $200. He says it should be under warranty. I cannot get an appointment earlier than 30 days. I travel a lot and consider this to be dangerous. Are the low beams going to go out too? Who knows, I dont. Also had a recall on the wiper motors which I cannot get serviced either. 30 days is a ridiculous time to wait for service. Especially on things that can cause you harm or injury if they go out.Whats going on? You sell us this stuff and you cannot deliver. Oh I was also told I could take it to the next county which is 40 mins away. What kind of service is this, anyway. The solution. If your auto has problems and you dont have enough mechanics to deal with the volume of customers, then Subaru needs to pay the person I get to repair it. I think that is fair. Is there a recall on the turn signal light switch? My vehicle is a 2012. Never owned a car that had so many dangerous problems so quick. My car now has 50K miles. What am I to expect in the future?? I thought this was a well put together vehicle. Im beginning to wonder. Not being able to have the vehicle serviced in a reasonable period of time is not acceptable to me, and Im sure not to any owner. So, I await your reply for my solution since your service dept. cannot help me. I live in Asheville, NC.

Hi this is Subhkarmanjit **. I’m from Barrie Ontario. I bought Subaru Impreza WRX 2015 pre-owned certified hardly 4-5 months ago. I maintained my car properly did services on time. I got it on 95,000 kms and driven it all way to Vancouver hardly 4400 km one way. I heard some weird noises. I checked everything. I thought it was just driving it too much then after everything was ok I kept driving it until I driven back from Vancouver again 4400 kms all the way to Barrie Ontario then it’s also my daily drive car and I work in Brampton so I drive it from there to Barrie daily. Like 2 months ago I started having issues with my car. The engine lights started showing up and then my car started smelling like something like burning rubber and out of nowhere. And the rpm was like going up and I felt like clutch was slipping on 100 kph and high rpms and my gears were little stiff. It’s not like that I never driven standard car before. I know how to drive standard. This is my third Subaru. I had 2001 Subaru Legacy before twin turbo then 2004 WRX and this is my 4th manual car. I sold my Jeep and got this WRX. I have this extended warranty from Subaru dealership when I bought my car for almost $3400 and I took it to dealership as I was told everything is covered in warranty so I went there. They diagnosed my car and after an hour service department told me it was just faulty o2 sensor and my clutch was started roasting and gears were stiff. When I asked them will they fix everything they said no they can’t fix o2 sensor until it completely dead and clutch is not covered as bumper to bumper warranty or my full warranty says everything is covered and they did nothing. They just erased my all the faulty lights and charged me $121 for just looking at car and I had to pay ask them to fix my clutch in few days because they asked me to pay either for parts or labor and they told me they will give me appointment for another day so I can come and show my car again and get estimates. I waited. They never contacted me or called me. Then on 3/12/2018 I was on highway 400 at midnight around 12 am. I was coming from Toronto back to Barrie when I was changing my lane from right to left suddenly there was big blast under hood and my whole motor was blown and it was big black smoke on whole highway. I couldn’t see anything and also smoke was inside car. I was on 100 kph and suddenly motor started making weird noises. I was so scared and was alone. I pulled it over to side and opened my hood. Saw big crack in engine near the alternator and everything was hanging even belts pulleys and was big crack in motor and oil spills coolant everywhere. I called my brother and other friends because I inhaled smoke and then my car was broke and I was alone. I called tow guy had to pay him $200 to tow it back. Next day I Went to Barrie Subaru dealership and they told me they will cover everything as I have full warranty and they will take report to SPP and they said they will contact me but they didn’t. I took all my tools and stuff from my car and got rental car. Since then they didn’t contact me. I had to contact them and now the thing is they said spp checked and they approved my repair and said motor will be replaced. I checked everything online did research and asked my friends as new WRX motor cost from $6500 to $10000 and with transmission and used ones from $4500 to $7000. I called Subaru dealership on 22/12/2018. They said they can’t fix the car. The repair cost they is gonna be $23000 and if I pay $6000 from my Pocket they are ready to fix it. They told me my car market value is on $15000 and that’s wrong. I got my car valued before and from Barrie to Oakville dealerships. My car still value still stands at $20,000 to $22,000 and I’m so pissed hearing it. At this point that it’s been almost 23 days my car is standing at same spot. It’s not neither getting fixed or took cared. It’s snow season and my car is almost started catching rust and other things is how can a car repair cost $23000. I’m mechanic too. I know everything I have 3 yrs experience too worked in 2 different countries. This is my biggest mistake. I bought Subaru. I wish I would’ve never bought it. It’s not getting fixed anytime soon almost gonna be month. I’m moving soon to other province. I tried to reach everyone. No one is ready to hear me so I’m writing this email. Please help me up with something or I will take this to court. I’m already so stressed about my life and then my car. I already have so many problems to deal with. Please do something soon or replace my car or something. I’m totally tired to going to dealership and contacting them again and again. Thank you.

I have a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i that I bought new in Massachusetts. The first few years seemed to go okay except for the $350 dollar services and the fact that the car dents when you look at it funny (literally hundreds of door dings 7 years later). I maintained impeccable service history and records but it started feeling funny in 2009 - gas mileage was tanking, engine felt off, acceleration was sluggish. I drive... a lot ... on road ... on dirt roads ... I use the car as the commercials show but do not abuse it. 2010 the brakes fail and I run off the road. 2010 (69,000 miles - so off warranty now), after complaining about the engine running funny for over a year to Subaru service centers, a local mechanic discovers the head gaskets are leaking. Subaru agrees to pay for half of the repair. Great! I am happy with the company and simply mad at the service centers for not finding it. Since then, it seems like everything that has a seal or bearings is beginning to fail - two transmission leaks, power steering pump, ac belt tensioner, coil pack (cylinders 3 and 4 started misfiring causing the car to smoke, shudder, and die), ignition wires (twice - once routine maintenance), front axle seals, differential... The thing leaks oil if you dont use a Subaru brand oil filter. It eats tires in half their designated lifetime, even with regular rotation and alignment. Oh, for a car that is advertised for the adventurer, perhaps they could work to make the alignment a little harder to throw off - any bump in the rode and it goes out. The exhaust pipe broke its weld (presumably from the aforementioned offroading, which consists of driving on flat, well maintained farm roads). The 3-year bill for my car, 75000-113000 miles, for routine and additional maintenance, has been almost 7000 dollars. I am not naive when it comes to car expenses. I did not expect this car to be worry free, maintenance free, or without a half life crisis at 100,000 miles but every time something fails on the car, I call up Subaru dealers around the northeast and I ask: Is this normal? Every time they say they rarely see it break. I have contacted Subaru of America and told them of these problems. They have offered me $500 towards a new car, like I will ever buy another one.

I bought STARLINK at a promotional price when I purchased my Outback. I received an email saying it would auto renew unless I called to cancel. I called to cancel because it was too much money for something that I had not used even once. I was told I would lose the last 45 days of service unless I called the day before it renewed. Really? This must be the only company that can’t figure out how to cancel auto renewal and fulfill the remainder of the paid contract. After having that conversation and canceling because I don’t want to deal with a company that can’t figure out how to fulfill a contract and cancel a renewal, the agent offered me the service for half off. Why not just offer this in the first place? If I hadn’t been so angry that I was losing the last 45 days of the contract I probably would have paid half price. Oh, he did give me a refund of the unused (forced out of) promotional price—$5.00. Really too little, too late.

I bought a new 2014 Impreza in Richmond Hill. Paint defects appeared within 5,000 km all over my front bumper and hood. Both the dealer and Subaru Canada stepped back from repairing the defect under warranty and I had to file a claim in small claims court against both the dealer and head office. They eventually settled and paid. The issue is clearly experienced by many people all over the internet who also claim Subaru denied them any warranty. They lost me forever as a customer. They also asked me to sign a non disclosure prior to settlement that I declined. If I had then just writing this review would have landed me back in court. I have this entire disgusting experience fully documented. Shame on Subaru. Beware!!!!!

This car is the best car on the road. It holds its overall value and is most certainly dog tested and approved. I have hit a deer a couple of years ago and there was hardly any damage to my car. It gets great mileage and proven itself in various weather conditions.

I bought my 2013 pre-owned Crosstrek November of last year and I have been in and out of the service department ever since. They ran 3 oil consumption tests to finally figure out that a wire wasnt on. Each visit takes several hours. I went with Subaru because I thought they were above selling faulty cars. Ive tried to get a new Subaru and count my loss but when I took it back into the dealership they gave me a low-ball offer for my trade in. I went into a Chevy dealership and they offered me a way better offer on a my trade in, and that was without me buying a Chevy. Everything about owning and buying my car has been a nightmare.

The car is terrible -- poor construction, poor interior. Defect in the steering wheel, door panel. There was a scratch on the bumper that I showed the Service Dept. They said I did it when it was washed. It is not a scratch. It is a defect in the paint. They would not deal with my complaints. I called Subaru and trying to get them to be available is very difficult. I will never buy another Subaru again. These people who love their Subarus are blind or naive. If you damage one tire you need to buy 4 tires because of the symmetrical AWD. High maintenance.

Bought a 2012 Forester for my daughter. When we took it in at the scheduled oil change, it was a quart low on oil. When I question how such a new car that was brought in at scheduled maintenance time could be that low or low at all on oil, I was told that the flat line engine uses more oil than a normal car and needed to be checked more frequently...???? Less than a year later, the starter starts to drag after the car sits all night. Told that new software ($100) had to be installed at my cost to correct the issue. Apparently, according to Subaru it is not considered abnormal for a relatively new Forester to develop this issue; however they have software you can buy to correct it...even though it is not an issue...REALLY?? Subaru thinks its customers are stupid. They got me this time, but it will be the LAST Subaru I buy.

I have the Subaru Forester. I love that model because its an all terrain vehicle. I like to go camping a lot so its useful on those old dirt roads. Usually it is terrifying to drive on them because its so bumpy and you feel like the car could turn over any second but with my Subaru it is smooth and I feel safe! I really like my Subaru. It is dependable and safe. I have children so it makes me feel better driving with them in a car like that. I have actually gotten into an accident in it, just myself, but it wasnt that bad! I credit it to the safety precautions I got on it. Its also very pretty. I got it in blue which is my favorite color. Just seeing the car makes me really happy! The seats are a nice creamy white leather. And I got a flower scented air freshener!I would improve however, the battery life. The battery in my car has a very short life span and I constantly find myself having to fix it. Granted, my kids do tend to turn the light on the car and we leave it on overnight. So maybe a fix could be an auto turn off on the lights after a couple of hours? That would be really useful since my family always forgets to turn the lights off.

My wife and I currently own a 2011 Subaru Forester we purchased new from Hatfield Subaru in Columbus, Ohio. We have always had it serviced at Byers Dublin Subaru in Columbus Ohio. At the 25,000 mile mark both head gaskets were leaking so the mechanics at Byers pulled the motor and replaced them. Just recently at the 33,000 mile mark I brought in my vehicle to Byers for my 30,000 maintenance check also complaining of a strange noise. They informed me the head gasket was leaking again and the noise we heard was the transmission running low on fluid. They again pulled the motor and made repairs. However, when placing the motor back in the car a strange noise developed in the engine. They again pulled the motor adjusting the tensioning on the timing chain yet the noise was still present. They then contacted Subaru technical support asking for assistance. They are currently pulling the motor for the fourth time with the intention of replacing the cylinder heads and camshaft.Up until now, I have been in contact with both dealerships expressing my concerns. I have also spoken with customer service, a supervisor, and a manager at Subaru of America. The manager at Subaru headquarters said they could only offer me 2500.00 towards the purchase of a new vehicle. The manager at Hatfield where I purchased my vehicle from passed me off to a sales associate who only wanted to sell me a new Subaru at full price to meet his end of the month February sales quota. The manager at Byers where my car is being serviced has been less than forthcoming as to the true status of my vehicle and I have not heard from him as to the status of my vehicle as promised in the last four business days. What concerns me the most is my wife and I now own a Subaru with a long list of engine problems so early in its life and a transmission which has been exposed to wear by fluid loss and after June of 2017 we have no warranty. We worked very hard paying off this vehicle early with every intention of keeping it for at least the next ten years. This was our first new car purchase and we chose Subaru because its incredible record of reliability. The current trade in value for this vehicle is 14,500 and we cannot afford to take out another loan for 10-14 thousand dollars to get the same style of Subaru we just paid off. We paid in full for a Subaru because of its name, we always had it serviced at your dealerships, and I feel we are being punished for a rare flaw which required them to pull the engine so early in its life and thus creating more problems with the engine and transmission by trying to put it back together. It is not a matter of if this vehicle will have more problems in the near future it is a matter of when and I refuse to put my wife and two children back in this Subaru wondering when the next big mechanical failure might occur, one which we cannot afford. I am reaching out to you with the hope of resolving this issue and I refuse to give up until a solution can be reached.

Purchased 2000 14 Subaru WRX in June. I was advised the tires on the car were summer only tires so I purchased a new set of rims and tires for the winter. When I went to change the summer tires to the winter tires, I noticed the interior edge of the tire were worn down to the cords, the rest of the tire look brand new. Took the car to a Subaru dealer, they put the car on the alignment machine and said everything is in specs, that theres nothing wrong with the car. Since they say theres nothing wrong with the car they will not replace my tires. The car has 20,000 miles on it. I have maybe ten thousand miles on my summer tires and ten thousand miles on my winter tires. I rotate the tires myself every other oil change. The dealer wants documentation on tire rotation which I cannot provide since I do my own maintenance. I like the car, its fast, handles well and is great in the snow. As of now I am trading in my 2014 Subaru because I cannot afford to purchase tires every 10,000 miles. I receive no satisfaction whatsoever from Subaru. I find that Subaru is very unhelpful in dealing with consumers complaints.

One of my Outbacks tires were punctured. I had to go to a tire shop to fix it. They said I need tires from the same company and I have to change two at a time. I agreed and two tires were replaced. In a month the difference between front and back tires caused the power train to become damaged. The dealership said that whole transmission needs to be replaced, but because the manual says that no more than a 0.25 should difference is allowed between tire thickness, there was no manufacturer guarantee. They said that there is a light on the Subaru dashboard that signifies it: If the AWD is flashing, driving can damage the power train. As soon as you can, park in a safe place and check your tires to make sure theyre all properly inflated and the same size. It never went flashing.Subaru is the kind of car that is supposed to drive in rural areas, farms, forests. If there is a difference in tire diameter in such a small amount – it should not damage the car to a point of a price that is a third out of the cost of the car. If there is that possibility, a warning should be posted on the dashboard, because it is major a damage to car. In this field – Subaru failed completely.

I bought a new 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5 Wagon August 29, 2013 (3 month old vehicle). In December the engine started making a squealing noise. When I took it in to be checked I was asked what I had done to the engine??? I had never opened the hood on my car - in fact I didnt know where the hood release was. It took 3 times bringing it in until one of their techs came outside when I brought it in again in January and took a look and said he knew what was wrong with it. The belts were glazing over. The pulley system was redone and the belts replaced. I thought this was the end of the problem. I contacted their main headquarters in New Jersey and after working with customer relations was given a 100,000 mile warranty. I am so happy I did this because the engine problems didnt end there. In August of 2015, my engine light came on - I pulled over and called the dealer and was told if it was the flashing one to not drive it and have someone tow it. It wasnt the flashing one and wasnt told I could continue to drive it. I drove the car to the dealer and told them I wanted it fixed. It was under warranty. They replaced a sensor. They had my car for 5 days. I picked the vehicle up and drove it for about 3 days and the light came on again. I took it back to the dealer, they gave me a loaner vehicle, couldnt find the problem (after having it in the shop for 2 weeks), turned the engine light off and called me to come get it. I picked it up and drove it for about 3 days and the same thing happened. I took it back - they gave me a loaner vehicle. When the service manager called they said it was a vacuum problem - and it was how I was braking. I said that was not possible. I got another call, the service manager told me that it was dirty and the catalytic converter was dirty too. He asked where I was buying gas and told me that I should only be using gas from Costco, Shell or Chevron 92 octane (even though the manual says otherwise). They said they would get a data recorder from Subaru and it would take them about 3 days to get it - I was told I could keep driving the loaner or pick up my own car and drive it and bring it back in when they got the recorder. I chose for them to keep it until they got the recorder. I didnt hear anything for 2 weeks. On a Saturday the service manager called and yelled at me that I hadnt picked up my car. I asked if they had the data recorder yet and he said no. They wanted me to be driving my car so the warranty would run out. On November 6th they called and said they had gotten the data recorder. I was already home from work when they called. I picked my car up on the 9th. Three days later the light came on again. I took it back to the dealer. They called and said they think they corrected the problem. The rear sensor was replaced.I dont believe they would have done any of it if I hadnt contacted their headquarters. It took over 3 months to get the problem corrected. Because of how I was treated by the dealership and the reliability of the cars, I will never buy another Subaru. Subaru does have a class action lawsuit against them now for the excessive oil burning issue. Their remedy is to give an extended warranty! Its not worth it!

I bought a 2013 Crosstreck in January 2013. I have had nothing but problems with it since about 65,000 miles. I have had to replacement dash sensors twice, two front axles, engine burns oil uncontrollably. (Have to put a quart of oil in every two weeks.) Wheel bearings have had to be replaced twice already. I would not recommend a Subaru to anyone. They are expensive and horribly built cars.

Very expensive repairs, poor gas mileage, the battery was a major issue, left us stranded at least 10 times in 2 years! Finally replaced by Subaru, but frustrating. There is no vent in the back so the backseat is sweltering during the summer. The service department at the dealership is great, the best part of owning the car!!!

2017 Subaru WRX. I purchased my new car out of state because the local dealer did not have the one I wanted. After 2 months of waiting I still do not have my title from Randall Noe Subaru. In that 2 months of time I have had my car to Ferguson Subaru 3 times for issues. The first was multiple rattles within the cabin that they needed the car 3 days to fix - Really?. The second was to change the oil at 1,000 miles to make sure it had clean oil for the break in period. The 3rd was to fix a stalling issue between 3,800 rpm - 4,800 rpm. The dealer first came back and said I overfilled the oil. The funny thing is they changed my oil. After they drained some oil out the car still repeated the same issue. After doing some research I come to find out that the WRX have had this issue since 2015 and they have a fix for the 2015 & 2016 but not the 2017. This is not real safe when trying to pull out in traffic or pass someone. The dealer tells me it is because otherwise the car would build too much boost - Not True. Well my car is not getting the boost anyone else gets out of their WRX so obviously something is wrong. It seems to me that the car is running lean and running out of fuel in that power band and if that happens enough I believe the engine will explode like a hand grenade. My car is a 2017 WRX Limited 6 speed car and has not been right since I bought it. I would avoid buying this brand of car until they can work out the bugs.

Dont Buy Subaru! I bought one, now I wish I hadnt. It wasnt until after the purchase that I realized that it was consuming oil. One day, a light came on the dash, which I learned was an Oil Level light, an Oil Level light! I checked the level and refilled the oil to the full mark, 2 1/2 quarts. I took it back to the dealer and what they had told me was that It was perfectly normal for a Subaru Outback to lose a quart every 1000 miles! This was not mentioned during the sales pitch or during the purchase; however if they had, I would not have bought the car! They recommended doing the Oil Consumption test, where you drive 1200 miles and return to the dealer four times. Yeah, a couple times it only took a half quart and it did take a quart. Well at the first attempt, my oil light came on while driving through the valley, so I had to add oil and that nullified the test and we had to start over again. Again they said that was normal and they wouldnt tell me why or how. I called Subaru of America and went back and forth with their customer service rep and she ended up hanging up on me. She did point to the owners manual, chapter/page where it did say to expect oil loss, as much as a quart every 1000 miles. Who reads a manual before a purchase? In my opinion, Subaru lied to me by means of omission. So any of you out there thinking of buying Subaru, dont do it. Ill be getting rid of this one soon and will never go Subaru again.

I had my head gaskets replaced on the 2006 Subaru Outback when the car was about 7 years old. I then began noticing heavy oil consumption about a year ago. Two weeks ago, I checked my oil and yesterday my engine failed. Mechanic told me that I was 2 quarts low. This is unacceptable for Subaru. Spend $6000 on a new engine that will only have the same issues? I dont think so. I loved my Subaru but this ongoing issue has me considering another make of car.

I bought my Outback new in summer 2007. Always did oil changes every 3,000. At just over 60K (just out of warranty), the head gaskets blew. Six months later, car started leaking oil and head gaskets were done once again (under warranty of mechanic). Now, Im facing blown head gaskets again!!!! After just 20,000 miles after 2nd job. My car only has 82,000 miles. I will never buy another Subaru which is unfortunate because this is the 4th one Ive owned. The others were older but better.

2000 Legacy Brighton (Wagon). I brought this used for $5500 with 96,000 miles in 2010 or 2011. I currently have 201,800 miles. I did have a spark plug blow out. The mechanic used helicoil instead of replacing the head and it seems to be holding (wood-knock), fan relays failed once causing overheating. Just recently replaced a failed valve cover gasket (by myself in about 30 minutes). My hood release cable failed a while ago. Trunk latch is sticky now. The rear bonnet leaked until I replaced the entire rear deck lid. This used to cause the light sockets to fill with water during rains. I went through 3 light bulb wiring harnesses before replacement. Also, a victim of their infamous rear wheel well rust patterns. Ive replaced the exhaust once since Ive had it too. I love this car. Its quiet as a mouse and 100% beast in the snow. Im nervous about getting about getting another RU, as Ive seen some pretty negative reviews.

Subaru Tribeca 2010. They need to give me a new vehicle - I bought my car use at dealer for 12k. Problem appear right always but dealer said it nothing wrong with the car. Lack of knowledge about auto I trust them. 1 year later when all the warranty expired, that problem start to expand, I just got my car towed to auto shop because engine wont start, fuel pump need to be replace, air system need to be replace, bunch of stuff need fix due to the recall and engine noise is very weird. I didnt know Tribeca is a discontinue model. If I had know earlier I wont bother to buy the car. I have spend more than 2000k to fix the car and the value I got for it now is 8500, they really need to take back the car. I dont care about the payment I made in that year, I just want to be free from this nightmare.

Engine light on, brake light on and cruise light flashing - I took my 2012 Legacy in two times for the same problem. The second time I brought it in, I had to leave my car there and they gave me a rental. When the car was done, they told me I had to pay for the rental. I said the car only had 20,000 miles and not even a year old. He said I still have to pay for the car rental. I told him that I was not very happy that I had to pay for the rental. I will never do business with them ever! The Subaru dealer was in Merrillville, IN. Do not go there for any service.

Engine Failure on 2014 Subaru WRX w/ 14k miles - To preface, I bought my WRX brand-new, less than 12 months back (Nov 13) with only 7 miles. Since purchasing, I properly broke in the engine, have had it regularly serviced, & have not made any modifications to the car whatsoever. Over one month ago, I was driving along on the freeway (cruise controlled in the fast lane @ 75 mph) and the engine completely ceased on me w/ no notice or unusual sounds. After taking it in to the closest dealership, I found that the small block would need to be replaced & that the reqd engines are back order for OVER ONE MONTH. 5 and a half weeks later, Ive yet to receive my car back after numerous broken promises & have found further issues with my car, including unexpected damages to the pistons/rods & a potential need to replace my clutch (which would not be covered under my standard, or additionally purchased extended warranty). With all of the issues that Im having - Im starting to believe that maybe Im not the only one... Anyone else having similar problems? What should I do from here? HELP.

The Subaru B9 Tribeca sounds like time when you shut any of the doors, or the close the hood, or the back door. Does not sound like it a good quality vehicle. It jumps into drive when you go from park to drive or even reverse. The CS players in the car go out after only a few times of use, and then it will cost you around $2.000 for a new one.

My husband and I bought our very first Subaru (2007 Outback) believing we had bought a great car that would serve us for many, many years. We were wrong! At 69,000 miles the turbo blew. Then, recently, the turbo blew again at 82,000 miles and took out the engine with it! Subaru doesnt want to do anything but sell us a new car! I am mad as hell and want to tell everyone that Subaru is not what they represent themselves to be.

I bought my 2014 Subaru Forester new, I even had to wait for them to make it. I was excited until driving home from work one day and my oil light comes on, so naturally I add a quart of oil. Then I have my oil changed and told them to put in an extra quart because of it using up a quart before my next oil change, but lo and behold the oil light came on again. I am so afraid that I am going to have major issues after I reach 100,000 miles. They have done 2 oil consumption test and they come back fine per the dealership. I dont understand how they come back fine and halfway through my oil change my oil light comes on.

I just bought a 2014 Subaru Impreza from Subaru of Burlingame 9 months ago. I never bought a used car before but I figured I would be safe buying it from Subaru dealership as is. I was so wrong. 17,000 miles later I have blown head gaskets about the car at 45,000 miles. It is currently at 60,114. After taking it into the dealership and being diagnosed I called Subaru of America right away, explained my situation. I had a Subaru representative tell me he was advocating for me but in the end they told me, Sorry not our problem. Only owned this car for nine months. I am devastated. I still have a very large loan on this car I’m paying for and have no car to drive. I’m going to do everything I can, to fight these people through social media platform, through the city of Burlingame, to anybody who will listen to me. This was my first Subaru and my last!!!

I have owned 4 Subarus but I must say, I am done with the company. My 2002 Outback had the leaking head gaskets but was not part of the recall. Subaru paid for the repair (as they should have) and I was told the head gasket issue had been resolved on the newer model Subarus. When it was time to purchase a new car I bought a 2007 Outback thinking I would be OK because SOA promised the head gasket thing was resolved. Imagine my shock when I was told I had oil leaking from my head gasket. Then soon after the antifreeze started leaking. I wrote to SOA and was told this was normal wear on a car with 139000 miles. Shame on you Subaru. I have since found many people with the same leaking gasket issue on different model/year/mileage of Subarus. A google search will show you or just ask any mechanic or your Subaru owning friends. I wish I had done better homework. I love my AWD wagon but never another Subaru.

We bought a brand new 2009 Subaru Outback in OKC just before moving to Colorado. We had no big issues with it until the engine blew at 57,028m. There were no engine or oil warning lights. The dealer said they would not cover the engine because we did not have all of our maintenance records. It was around $7k for the new engine. Not happy. Now, two years and less than 38k miles later, the engine is failing again. After the nightmare of the first engine mess, we kept excellent oil change records. The dealer says the engine is outside of its one-year warranty, regardless of our records. I took this up with Subaru Corp who graciously have offered me a $1000 credit on the repairs (a goodwill gesture) and the dealership has reduced the total repair cost to only $3800. So I have to pay $2800 for another engine. Is this how Subaru stands behind its products? Am I expected to replace my engine every two years? Not to mention it took them almost two months to get back to me with their decision. Meanwhile, we havent been driving the car so as not to damage it further. A huge inconvenience. Needless to say, I will never buy Subaru again and they will be hearing from our attorneys. There is no way this is normal.

My 2013 Subaru Outback needs the transmission replace at Subarus expense. All Im getting is comments that because there are so many vehicles with this problem they do not have enough transmissions to fix the problem. At first we were told it would be 7-10 days for the necessary parts. Then we were told it would be 4-5 weeks. We have surpassed that time frame with no idea when my car will be fixed. I am not able to use it as I need. This is totally unacceptable. Pressure from various agencies needs to happen now.

I have owned my Subaru 7 years. I only have to do the manufacturer service maintenance as my Subaru runs beautifully! I have had NO major issues at all. My Subaru is dependable with Great gas mileage! My Muscatell Subaru dealership on Hwy 10 in Moorhead MN does an excellent job of also taking care of my Subaru with their GREAT service staff!

I wanted to buy Subaru xv premium 2015 Black From Bayraktar Subaru. They told me they will have in 2 weeks. And I told I will have 4 weeks because I needed to sell my old car. Then I sold my car faster than I think. I visit them 3 times and every time I visit they gave me 3 different date about cars arrival. At last they said they will have the color I want next month... maybe. Called their manager and got information about they don’t know when they will black cars arrival. They said it is normal. The only thing I wonder why they did not tell me that in the first time I was there when I said I wanna buy Subaru xv premium 2015 black...

This is the best car Ive ever owned. Although its an SUV, it rides very well - not hard like my Jeep Renegade did. Passengers in the back seat tell me it is very comfortable. I have the Limited model, so it has some great features like Subarus Eyesight. That feature is a game-changer for driving. I will never own another vehicle without that. I feel much safer since it keeps me from drifting into another lane, can brake quickly in an urgent situation and, best of all, driving on the highway with cruise control, the system adjusts your speed so that you never creep up too close to another vehicle. Its a must have for long distance driving. I love the fact its all wheel drive. I feel much safer driving in rain and snow. Traction is awesome.Im super happy with my gas mileage, too. Average driving around town is usually upper 20s. On the highway, its always in the mid to upper 30s. I tested it one time on an open flat interstate -- no hills, steady speed of 63 mph with the AC on. The computer readout showed 44 mpg. Ive compared the computer read-out to the old-fashioned way to determining mpgs and its usually off by about 3. That means I got over 40 mpg with the Crosstrek! The Crosstrek has a CVT transmission (continuously variable, not gears) and, although a good number of people in Crosstrek social media groups complain about it, Ive never had an issue. Its smooth and even feels like a regular automatic. The other typical complaint is that the engine doesnt have enough power. Is it the fastest car Ive ever driven? No. Does it have incredible pickup? No. But it gets the job done. Ive never had an issue, for example, pulling out onto a highway. Overall, 5 stars for this vehicle.

Excellent car for the value. Also the safety rating in the Subaru Crosstrek with its all wheel drive tops most competitors in its class. After test diving all most cars, we kept on coming back to the Subaru Crosstrek.

Overall, I am a happy Subaru customer. I just wanted to let everyone know what the issue is with my vehicle. I purchased my 2014 Outback in February 2014. Since then, I am on my third head unit to repair Failed Connection on the receiver unit for my blue-tooth. Not a big deal overall, but when you drive many miles, its a necessity to have. Im worried that when my warranty is up, the cost to repair the head unit will be astronomical since they have to replace the entire piece instead of the bluetooth module. The dealer has been really great getting me into a loaner car, but it makes me nervous about the cost of the repairs when my warranty finally gives out. Has anyone else had problems with the bluetooth in the Outback?

My wife had a 03 Outback where the engine destroyed itself at 84,000 miles. Blew head gasket with no warning, cylinder heads had to be machined along with new rings, etc. by Subaru. The car ran fine for 5,000 miles then everything started to happen again. I spoke to Subaru USA about the first incident and was told was off warranty. I had a 05 Outback which I just traded in for a Camry. Again at 84,000 miles, the car started to break down. CV Joints, timing belt and water pump, brake lines to front wheels were replaced, AC fan and fan blower were replaced, catalytic converter failed along with o2 sensors and to top it off, the head gasket was seeping. I have owned 6 Subarus since 1997 and this is it! The cars are great until you hit the 84,000-mile wall and fall apart.

My 2011 Forester failed a recent oil consumption check. I had it done because the warranty expires in May 2016 and my daughter had the same problem with her 2012 Forester that was warrantied by Subaru. I hope to have mine warrantied also. In my case though, the dealer has warned that I may be liable for all expenses since the interval between oil changes exceeded recommended milage. Reading Subaru message boards leads me here to Consumer Affairs to learn if mine and my daughters is not an isolated incident. I think not.

I currently have a 2014 Crosstrek that I am sending back to Subaru for constant rattles on the right front and back sides, glove compartment box, instruments gauge, left front and rear doors and the rear hatch. I bought this car in January 2015 and as of right now, it has roughly 4,300 miles. The rattles in my car began showing up around 500 miles as a sound in the front passengers side speaker. On my 1st trip to the dealer, they could not find any noises coming from the car so they sent me home. On the 2nd visit, they found that the front passenger side speaker grill was loose and was causing the constant rattling so they insulated it and sent me on my way. A day after leaving the dealer, the rattle started again and this time it seemed to spread. On my 3rd visit to the dealership, they again could not find a rattle in my car. By this point I am aggravated and decide to involve Subaru of America in the process. On my 4th visit, they found rattles in the front and back passenger doors and insulated them. They proceeded to have me test drive the car around the dealership but again nothing seems to happen when youre at the dealership. I left and on the way home, guess what pops up? THE DAMN RATTLES!! I blast SOA and demand something be done or I want a refund. On my 5th (and final) visit, SOA send a senior field rep/engineer to test drive my car. They stripped my instrument gauge down TWICE and insulated it on EVERY POSSIBLE LEVEL! They also insulated all of my doors, except for the drivers door, and the glove box. After having my car for more than 7 days, I finally get a call that it is ready to be picked up. Hoping that this will be the end of if, I test drive the car with the service manager to ensure everything was OK. As soon as we pull out of the dealership, the drivers door begins to rattle and so does the instrument gauge. The service manager proceeds to inform me that since every possible surface of the instrument gauge has been insulated twice, they can insulate it no more and would require them to install a completely brand new instrument gauge. It is a shame that a car that is only 4 months old could could like such a clunker!!! Maybe if car manufacturers would stop putting SO MUCH DAMN PLASTIC IN THE CAR, THERE WOULDNT BE ANY ISSUES!!! So as previously mentioned, I contacted SOA and demanded a refund. They offered me another car which I turned down because all 3 of the Crosstreks I was given to drive had the same exact issue! Needless to say that I will never purchase a Crosstrek AGAIN!!

I was driving in the highway at 65mph when all of sudden I heard an explosion. When I stopped and checked the car the sunroof exploded as if someone had punch it from the inside. This is a new 2014 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid with only 9000 miles. The dealer now tells me this is very common for the Subarus. I had minor scratches and thank God nobody in the back seats.

Subaru ripped me off multiple times when the clutches (transmissions?) the sold me were defective. Ive been driving manual transmission cars since 1984, but the clutch on my 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX kept going way bad for years. Only after a non-Subaru mechanic installed a non-Subaru clutch when the 5th one failed 20K miles on the odometer has the clutch on my car been reliable. Subaru fixed only one under warranty, then abandoned all warranty support for their defective product. Of particular concern was the completely crappy service done on the car by the now defunct Subaru dealership in Charleston, SC. This has been my 2nd Subaru, but I will try a Mitsubishi vehicle the next time around.

I have a Forester, it’s a great car except for when the engine light and cruise control light goes on at the same time making the car difficult to drive. I have had this issue 6 times now from 2009-13 and each time I go to the dealership where I bought the car, they say the issue has been fixed but there are always added expenses such as my hose has a leak or etc. Obviously, if I had this issue 6 times, then issue hasnt been fixed. I have been told by the dealership this isnt an ISSUE and that the time lapse in between visits to the dealership are so far apart I shouldnt worry about. When I had this experience for the 6th time this week, I thought writing to company and saying, Hey, when are you guys going to figure this out? Its been five years and a lot of money and no one seems to be able to help me. So today I decided to do a little research. There is a whole site on topics about this issue going back to ’07 all the way up to my last entry… I am still researching. This issue is a big issue, Subaru. Wake up!

My 2016 Subaru Foresters CVT transmission failed catastrophically at 42,000 miles with no prior warning. Vehicle would not move and made grinding sounds. Had it towed to the dealer and was told it is still under warranty. I asked about the failure and was told by the service techs that they had never heard or had a problem with the transmissions before. When I told them that Subaru has had numerous problems with the CVT over the years I was told that I did not know what I was talking about and that they never had a problem. I had researched the CVT problems quite a bit beforehand and was upset by the way I was treated. I now have a vehicle that I no longer trust and a dealer that will not ever get my business again.

Purchased a 2014 Subaru legacy in April of 2014. Car has every thing but the nav and eye sight. I have 17000 miles and have no problems at all, love the awd and for a 2.5 litre it goes pretty good. It is my first new car and would recommend it to anyone. I am 6.6, 220 and it fits me in. I have two kids and they love it. I am a chevy man and finally went Japanese. It is great on gas, handles well, and looks great at 30k - you cannot beat it. Lets face it - every thing breaks but these subarus are great. Buy one, you will not regret it.

Subaru Forester 2015 - I have tried many times to get SOA to fix my bumpy and nauseating CVT. The dealerships I have brought it to dont seem to do much to investigate. The mileage is exactly the same as when I drop it off and they cant find anything. SOA Corporate refuses to return my phone calls. I am left with a car that is pronounced and bumpy especially around 1500 rpms and deceleration. Im angry that theyve done nothing to correct the issues and I am left driving around a horribly functioning car, with the dealerships doing nothing but treating me badly.

Subaru made net profits of $480,000,000 (Reuter.com) in 2012, billions of dollars in gross profit and yet, Mr. Takeshi Tachimori, Chairman, President, and CEO of Subaru of America, refuses to provide me with some oil. I purchased a new 2011 Subaru Forester. The computer system crashed at night in the rain on the freeway with 5 passengers. The engine failed in the Joshua Tree desert. Subaru finally replaced the engine short block after great time, energy and resources expended by me. The seat belts were recalled, parts (gas door opener) fell off; etc. Car has a horrible overheating problem that they cannot fix. Car continues to consume oil such that I have to add oil between oil changes. After many failed efforts, I wrote on Dec. 24, 2012 to Takeshi Tachimori, Chairman, President, and CEO of Subaru of America, stating that: engine short block malfunctioned; ECM reprogramming required the vehicle emission recall campaign (Nissan Subaru dealership claimed that they had reprogrammed ECM on 24 Feb. 12, & on 25 July 12. Mazda Subaru dealership claimed that the reprogramming had not, in fact, fulfilled this recall malfunction, and that they had to fulfill this reprogramming on Dec 21, 2012); seat belt recall; tank lever broke within first 100 miles (See repair, 26 Apr. 2012); replaced motor is still, as of Dec 21, consuming oil. In conclusion, 100% of authorized Subaru repair shops/mechanics spoken with state that it is not normal for a new Subaru with less than 15,000 miles to consume any oil at all, period. I asked billionaire Tachimori, for simply, I am requesting of you, that you authorize the local Subaru dealerships I have used (copies enclosed) to add oil to my car between oil changes without a cost to me. So little is asked of the Subaru billionaires, yet they refused. I will provide free advertising to any Toyota dealership. I wish so much that I had purchased a Toyota again, not a Subaru. If Mr. Tachimori will allow oil to be added when low, I will graciously provide a retraction.

We purchased a new Subaru Outback in January, 2015. Since we have two other vehicles with excellent GPS systems, we were anxious to order the GPS package. From day one, the GPS system was difficult to use and had serious problems using voice recognition. We have taken it into the dealership numerous times and the problem was not rectified. Today, the auto was returned to us after being in the dealership for a week. The service manager admitted that the system is flawed. He actually took the car home a couple of times and experienced the problems. The service manager contacted the factory representatives and they admitted the problems with the system could not be repaired. We are stuck with a new car with a sub-standard GPS system.

We have been loyal Subaru customers for 20 years. We have always kept our Foresters well maintained and garaged. However, I can say that after the head gaskets going bad at 77,000 in our 2010 Forester we will never buy another Subaru again. Our last Forester did not have bad head gaskets until nearly 200,000 miles! After rounds of discussions with Subaru, they are only offering $1,000 toward repairs. Apparently this is a good deal from what I have seen them offer other customers with similar issues. Ridiculous. We will still be on the hook for repairs that equal half the cost of the vehicle. I am waiting on a class action for this issue. Subaru, you are losing your loyal customer base!
I dont think I will purchased car Subaru again after I had a bad experience
I dont think I will purchased car Subaru again after I had a bad experience with Subaru located in Troy, MI. They had an advertisement said that if you had a test drive at their location, you earned $50 gift card, no purchased necessary. So I and my husband decided to go to have a try with this brand name at their location instead the dealership on Hall Rd. We went there, did a test drive, even purchased their car. After 1 hour, I asked them about the $50 gift card. They said they would mail it to my house. It has been 2 months now after I made the purchase, I received nothing. I called the salesman, emailed him, left voicemail, nothing, no response. I called his manager and left a voicemail, no response either. I think we did purchase the car, they dont care about what they promised and their customer anymore. I should never trust them. Worst service ever. Never come back.

I like the cars performance in bad weather like rain, snow and ice. The car keep me comfortable. I also like the all-wheel drive and heated seats. But I am disappointed with my Subaru in the cost of repairs. They are very expensive. Also, the windshield has been a bother and has broken numerous times. Rocks hit it and instantly put holes in the window. We have replaced the window five or six times.

Paint defects on new 2018 Forester. Took to service dealer, told the paint chips were caused by rocks hitting car. How do rocks hitting a car at different times create the same consistent size chip on ALL paint chips? Plus how come the passenger side shows no paint defects while the driver side is constantly cropping up new rock hits? The hood is showing paint chips is getting ready to lift again, perfect little tiny circles, no dents, just paint gone to the bare metal. I had a 2006 Nissan, NEVER ever saw problems with the paint. When heavy debris hit my Nissan, it dented the car but left the paint intact, had my Nissan for ten years and never ever saw paint chips exposed to the metal.

I bought this low- mileage 2019 Forester used and admittedly have only 4 months experience with it. Most things seem fine except for one BIG issue: from time to time there is no response when I press the accelerator. After 2-3 seconds it picks up again, but by then I could have been rear-ended! This is the same issue described by Margaret of Harrisburg and is not new. I found other websites dating back to 2015 with dozens of complaints about this same problem. This is a clear safety issue and should be the subject of a recall. I bought a Subaru because it used to be highly rated but, as I research this problem, I now find more and more complaints about this and other issues.Other things I don’t like include the auto-shutdown at stops. I had to turn it off because it caused a hesitation and was annoying. And the drivers manual is a mess — 550 pages with supplements and I can’t find how to, for example, dim the dash lights. It seems there’s never one spot that fully describes a function. Pages referring to other pages, referring to other pages that eventually come full circle. And the index is almost useless. Think “dashboard light dimmer” is there? Nope. This is only one function for which I find Google much more helpful.

We bought a new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. It has the Worst gas mileage we have ever seen in a vehicle. Its getting 13mpg. We have owned it now for 3 months. Now the dealership has says it will get better the long we own it!! We would like to file a lawsuit against Subaru and the dealership for false advertising this product. It does not get Nowhere what they are advertising. Maybe we bought a bad one. If so we would try another Subaru.

What the hell is this Subaru dealer in Jordan? I am really shocked when I saw the underground garage. Its hidden and so dirty. No one can see it and they dont have a system at all. They dont even know the history of the car service schedule. There is no clean waiting area for customers. Please just come to Jordan without informing the dealer of your visit and see this with your own eyes. It is unbelievable. They lied to Subaru by convincing them that the garage is the one above ground close to the gas station. It is not, it’s the Renault garage .Subaru in Jordan is dying. There are a lot of Subaru lovers in Jordan waiting for solution .By the way, there are no available spare parts in the dealers warehouse. Just come urgently without informing them of your visit and see the disaster.
Before taking our 2015 wrx in for a recall, we had never had a single issue
Before taking our 2015 wrx in for a recall, we had never had a single issue with this car. It was certainly confidence in motion and a well loved car. After the Pre-Ignition recall and CPU flash in May, we have had the check engine light on seven times and have been back to the dealership SEVEN times. They are friendly and great every time but who wants to have their car stall out in intersections, miss work, miss family events, and waste gas driving back and forth to the dealership? We contacted SoA and they offered us a $500 rebate towards a new Subaru, which is a complete joke since what moron would buy another new Subaru after an experience like this? I feel like I cant trust my Subaru to get me safely anywhere and after the flash and reprogramming, our car has never felt like the car we wanted and paid for. It is not ethical to sell a car that runs a certain way and then dumb it down and make it unreliable a few months later. At this point, I would not recommend a Subaru to anyone.

The first service manager raised the rubber hood pads to even the hood. He said its not perfect but to Subaru tolerances. After I sent Subaru photos of the crooked hood, they agreed with me. But then I was told the service manager said this is within tolerances. Subaru said to get a second opinion. I called the dealer they recommended. The service manger would not call me back. After a week of back and forth emails and calls to Subaru, the service manager finally called me back. They are looking at the issues today. The r/l fender gaps were equal when I bought the new car with 5 miles. I am concerned with the right fender and front end separating after two months of ownership. There were also some interior quality control issues they had to address.

My customer information reflects items required to acquire notifications of service: both acquisition and notifications of appointments, and potential notifications of recalls. I attempted to notify Subaru of changes in (1) email address and (2) snail-mail address. In my opinion, such an attempt on my part should be available on *one* website, and should, when made, cascade *throughout* the sophisticated Subaru bureaucracy. As it turns out, Subaru has three levels of databases in which these items are stored: national, regional, and local dealership. For each of the two items, I attempted on several occasions on national and local websites, via multiple national and local phone calls, multiple snail-mail requests, and multiple face-to-face visits to acquire the changes. In spite of my attempts, materials from Subaru continued to arrive at the *old* email and snail-mail addresses! All this took place over a period of 9 months. The issue has *still* not been fully resolved. For my own security, I feel I must make face-to-face appointments for maintenance. (The vehicle is still under warranty and a regimen of maintenance is required to maintain terms of the warranty.) I must describe Subarus information processing as primitive at best.

Do you want an engine with that car? That is my feeling towards being charged about $1200 to replace my bumper. It was a minor fender-bender and I went to a reputable collision repair shop. The $700 cost they originally estimated seemed reasonable, but when the bumper came in the cost jumped another $463, because it had to be painted!!! Seems like a rip-off to me.

I purchased a 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca last year (2012) from an original owner and was happy using it until one morning, the hood just popped up, slamming on the windshield while I was driving. Luckily, I was on a local street and was alone on the road so no accident happened, but my windshield was destroyed and needed replacement. Last month, the hood popped up again while I was driving at 55 mph and destroyed again the windshield. Luckily, again, no accident happened and I was able to stop and go home safely. I believe this model has a defect on the hood latch and Subaru should have recalled this a long time ago. See attached windshield repair receipts as proof of what happened.

On May 27, 2014, we purchased a 2014 Subaru Outback. We have complained multiple times about a leak in our roof and were told that the roof tracks had to be cleaned out regularly. The first leak occurred when our cup holders filled with water. The second leak occurred at a car wash which filled a cup with car wash fluid. Again, today while going through a car wash, my husband witnessed the leak from the corner passenger side vanity mirror. We have also complained about a chronic moisture issue to no avail.

I bought my Outback new and have taken meticulous care of the car, religiously changed the oil and all of the customary tune ups. I do quite a bit of driving, having put 149k in less than 6 years but have tended to every update or replacement so to avoid any unforeseen major issues. Last year, my oil light came in which confused me since I had 2k miles to go before the next oil change. Went to check the oil and it was boned drive. Since then, I have carried extra oil - just in case this happened again. Did not think much of this fluke. Fast forward to a couple of months ago, I felt a noticeable decrease in performance. Took it to my mechanic and always got its fine.A month ago, noticed that my acceleration was compromised so my mechanic changed the engine filter and then the battery, which improved the acceleration slightly, but thought it was in my head. The car started to make a rattling sound after trying to accelerate over 60-80MPH; it felt that the engine was choking. I would not even pass other cars for fear of the car stalling; no lights came on. Then the next day, the dashboard went haywire with the lights (cruise control, solid engine light, traction control, and another light that I cant remember right now). Took it to another Subaru dealership in North Attleboro, MA and they hooked it up to the machine and told me that I needed OSV Valves for both side, code P0028. The cost of the valves were 235.74 and labor was 600.00, totaling $835.74, which I paid since I thought it was going to resolve this issue once and for all.I asked if the tech took the car for a test drive and they could not confirm this. I picked up the Subaru and drove off, the car had a slight improvement but not for the 835.75 repair. Called Subaru the next day, and drove the car back to the dealership. Had the general manager drive my car, and he felt that the car had no power to accelerate and that the transmission felt like it was slipping. This was Saturday morning. On Tuesday, the Subaru manager said that they were still working on it; they could not find the source of the problem and was on the phone with another Subaru department trying to figure this out. A day later, we got a text message stating it was my transmission leaking down internally. The cost to replace was $6040 and that did not include other parts and fluid. I wrote to Subaru since I feel that the Class Action Lawsuit of the excessive oil consumption may be related to the transmission. In addition, Subaru had replaced OSV valves and did not test drive the car to see if they remedy the issue. Lastly, why did the diagnostic machine pick this up? I purposely asked the tech, if there was another nested issue underneath the OSV valves; she answered no. The POO28 code was correct diagnosis. I will contest the charge for the valves on my Visa and have written to Subaru Corp about this issue. Between replacing timing belt, fuel pump, tires... this transmission would have set me back well over 10k. If I cant get Subaru to fix this for under 2k, I will trade it in. This car was great in the snow, but the seats were uncomfortable, poor visibility from the side of the car (blindspots were bad). Headlights are constantly burning out and Subaru response is to go to the dealership to get them replaced. Next car will be a Honda or Toyota.

I do not normally write reviews on vehicles as I understand that with any car..business..dealerships..you are going to have bad experiences and things are going to happen to vehicles. I am by no means a Subaru loyalist or fan. When I purchased my first one I admit I fell for the hype. Being a mountain biker/cyclocross/road biker dude and outdoor kind of a cat, I fell for the whole Subaru/nature blah blah blah...but having been in a Subaru for almost 4 years I started noticing some things about the Outback but thought it was just me. After reading some of the stories here, apparently my imagination was not as wild as I thought it to be so I write this in the event anyone out there in the cyber world falls upon these reviews while researching cars.My first 2012 Outback was the premium with cloth seats. The seats really are bad in these cars..not very comfortable and after some use, they began to settle in per say in a manner that seems to make them feel a little harder/thinner than they were new. Say around 7500 miles for me on that vehicle, the road handling was ok, not great, nothing to inspire one but then again it is an Outback. Do not lean too hard on these cars as they feel flimsy like they are made of cheap sheet metal. The interior plastics really do feel cheap and look cheap. The kicker- driving down the road one day and at 15,000 miles, the check engine light comes on - vehicle shuts down. I pull off the road and get out to check the issue as I smell coolant..radiator fluid is all over the ground. Call road side assistance...they arrive and transport the vehicle to the nearest Subaru dealer in the area. Three hours of sitting in the hot Texas sun, I get to the dealer and await their verdict.I am advised that a rock must have hit my radiator and put a hole in it and dumped the fluid...ok, I am thinking possible. Never had that happen but trying to be fair, I ask them where the hole is. The service manager advises me the hole is about the size of a bb and is on the back side of the radiator about 8 inches up. Now I am getting a little skeptical..a rock about the size of a bb hit the back of my radiator and punched a hole in it. “I want to see the hole” I tell him. So we walk over to the service area and they raise the car on the lift and show me a hole on the backside of the radiator. The hole is a perfect circle, about the size of a BB. So the service manager then tells me that he surmises a rock flew up from the road, hit the frame, ricocheted backwards and hit the radiator - a freak deal as he calls it. To replace radiator he advises me around 800 dollars including labor - no coverage as it was not a manufacture’s defect. So even though this seems really weird to me I tell myself, well, I guess anything is possible and I really have no way to argue or prove otherwise. While I was there I was looking at the limited model and had kind of thought I should have got one of those instead. So I ended up trading the premium in for a 2013 Limited - seemed nicer with the leather and upgraded radio and moon roof, etc. So things I noticed and apparently I am not alone. Interior still looks cheap with a really over all plastic toy feel. I have never achieved any MPG better than 25mpg on either Subaru. The exterior metal feels flimsy and will give with very little pressure applied. I too experienced the object in one tire (staple) and would need 4 new tires at 23000 miles because of wear pattern on tires and AWD system requiring close tolerances to ensure damage not done to the AWD system. At around 29000 miles on the 13, I started noticing when I backed out the driveway and out the vehicle in drive from reverse, I would get a hesitation of a few seconds before the car engaged and moved forward. The paint is cheap and if you sneeze on it right, a flake of paint may fly off (exaggeration) but it really is bad. The leather seats in the 2013 did the same thing as in the 2012. They seemed to compress and get harder over time like they lost their shape. The molding around the seat came loose after about 1000 miles and Subaru never did fix it even after pointing it out on each service of the vehicle. The carpet and floor mats wore out to the point they looked like they belonged in a car with 100,000 miles instead of 30,000. They over all feel of driving the car was well like just driving a car..nothing great or inspiring. So in order to be fair, I never experienced any problems with the radio, blue tooth, or plug-ins for phones, etc. - everything synced up and worked each time. Home link always worked. The vehicle had ample storage space for my bike gear and kept it in a secure place while I was riding. My bike rack fit on the car with the added 2 inch hitch receiver I had installed at U-Haul. The power mirrors always worked and defrosters as well as heated seats. The extra storage in the rear under the floor mat was nice. I never really took to the looks of the Outback. I never experienced the oil issues as others at all. One reason may be I ditched the 2013 with 30,000 miles on it because my gut was telling me when I noticed the stalling issues that something was not right. Even with an extended warranty on the vehicle from my previous dealings with Subaru dealerships, I knew any problem would be a head-ache.I really wanted to like this car and when I bought it like I said I fell for the hype. For the price I paid for a Outback limited, honestly it was a real let down. The Subaru seems to show its age a little pre-mature. Even though the Limited is loaded, the 2013 still felt a little dated compared to other vehicles in the same class and though the MPG was acceptable compared to the Jeep Wrangler I gave up to get in the Subaru brand, it never came close to the promised projected estimates of their commercials and advertised MPG ratings. And for the most part I drove the car like a dude driving a station wagon, cruising around at posted speeds, easing in and out of stops and traffics. The dealership I bought the last one from pretty much blows. They could care less about customer service..never rude to me, never really wanted to help either on any issues. The first one was ok, just too busy with too few employees and you know how that played out. I know there are the Subaru loyalist and I get that. I still am a Jeep Wrangler fan even with all of its reported problems but I love the Wrangler so that makes it a little easier to handle and the last Jeep Wrangler I had, I drove for 5 years and the only issue I had was a dead battery and the black plastic fading which was an easy fix. After all, it sat outside in the parking lot in the Texas Sun...cannot hold that against it too much.So any potential Subaru buyers out there - do your homework and look for unbiased information on the vehicle you are researching like a site that is not dedicated to the brand. I am not going to say I hate the brand...hate is a harsh word and no one twisted my arm to try the brand. I did and because of my experience I am now an educated consumer of the Subaru brand which I will never purchase again.

At 54,000 the original CVT transmission on my 2012 Subaru Impreza Limited failed. A Subaru reman CVT tranny was installed. After 8 days and 200 miles that replacement CVT tranny failed suddenly and with no warning. It is back at the Subaru dealership for its 3rd CVT transmission right now.

Bought this car brand new and am meticulous about maintenance. Cvt transmission was advertised as no maintenance. Now they say it needs to be replaced at 150,000 miles and that this is a known defect! There was a horrible whining that started very quiet on and off in 2017 and became louder this year. We drove into a city intersection to turn, and the car stalled. We were lucky that we didnt get hit by another car. We took it to the dealership as we do all recommended maintenance and something was really wrong to make it stall like that. The dealership said that it is a CVT transmission, and they are known to have this problem. Told us to call Subaru. There was an extended warranty offered in 2018, but we never were notified of that and are the original owner. If we had the notification we would have had this fixed as it occasionally made the noise but it did not repeat when at our service center. We would have had the dealer check it if we knew about the problem and warranty. I expected a Subaru to last longer than this before needing an $9,000 repair. Called Subaru and they offered me $1,000 toward a new Subaru. I paid $36,000 for this car. I dont think $1,000 off one now is going to help me very much for a known problem with this transmission that put us in a very dangerous situation.
Our 2016 Subaru Outback seems like it is possessed. On Monday, July 27, 201
Our 2016 Subaru Outback seems like it is possessed. On Monday, July 27, 2016, we were parked at a restaurant when our daughters noticed the rear liftgate opening on its own. At the time, the only people with the keys to the locked vehicle were me and my wife, who were both 75 yards away inside the restaurant. Neither of us was handling our remote keys. It seems highly unlikely either of us accidentally hit the remote button.Since we were staying at a hotel, I disconnected the battery so that the liftgate would not open overnight. Once I reconnected the battery, a whole host of other electronic issues started. Half of the readouts on the dash intermittently stopped working. They were the information display between the tachometer and speedometer, the readouts associated with the air conditioner and the map display and GPS. The clock, which worked when reconnecting the battery, then was stuck at 9:19 a.m. The right front remote window control only worked from the passenger side, not the drivers side. So, we drove straight to our destination three states away, not stopping or turning off the car since it had taken three seconds to start after battery reconnection. I was unsure if the car would restart again. We drove to the Subaru dealer in Normal, Illinois. As expected, the problems cleared up as soon as we hit the dealership service bay. The dealer spent a hour wiggling wires under the dash and driving over bumps along with putting it on a code reader. We got a PNF--Problem Not Found-- diagnosis and we left the dealership very disappointed. I parked the car two miles away, went into the house and returned five minutes later to find the liftgate again open wide. At that point, I abandoned the remote-entry key and used the key that did not have any remote features. Unfortunately, once I unlocked the door, the car alarm began honking and was only silenced after starting the car.At this point I am considering selling our Subaru with only 3,000 miles on it. We have already endured a painful recall of its steering column and now this liftgate issue. I have zero confidence in Subaru and this vehicle keeping my family safe. I am writing this only to alert other Subaru owners who may experience similar problems in the future. Maybe I can trigger a similar national recall as the Subaru owner who had the steering defect.
Just 3 years after buying our Subaru Outback 2014, the electric parking bra
Just 3 years after buying our Subaru Outback 2014, the electric parking brake device failed, locking our car down and making it unable to shift gears. We had to manually release the parking brake using the extremely poorly written advice for a labor intensive cranking process (turn 250 times but not 300 or youll break something!) with a terribly designed device. Repairs to this piece cost $1050 ($660 parts replacement). Big waste of money for a feature no one wants (electronic parking brake). Im sure Subaru doesnt mind making money on the replacement parts, though. Will not buy Subaru again.

Subaru Outback Impreza 2013 - Around seven months ago, I heard a scraping sound coming from the right side of my car as I was driving. When I pulled over, I noticed the front of the side bumper was dragging against the ground. Completely horrified, I had my passenger lift it from inside and hold it in place until we could get to her place where we taped it (to avoid further damage) until I could get it to the dealer. At the dealership, they sent me to Parts, and told me that this would need to be filed under a collision repair, and that the part they needed to order and paint would either be $600 out of pocket or a collision incident through my insurance. As it is a leased car (and did NOT interact in any way with any sort of collision), I was hesitant to pay out of pocket, but decided that was the best move. Until....A week ago, I was driving with family in town. When we got to our destination, and after a few trips back and forth from the car, to unload our possessions, did we notice that the frame around the light in the front of the car, a grey frame that must be no more than 14 by 10 had completely fallen off and was nowhere to be found. We checked the other side and saw that its light frame was still there. Same side as the side bumper incident but of course, nowhere near the part that had previously become loose.(Frankly, Im not sure how the side bumper was ever secure, because if you take a look at whats against the vehicle frame behind where its supposed to be, there are a series of small plastic knobs that seem too flimsy to carry such weight. In fact, we really thought we might be able to get the bumper back on seven months ago because it seemed that easy and there was no damage to the bumper, aside from some scraping it had endured against the road. A few of those knobs were bent and broken, from the inside, so I really thought that when I took it in, they would see this was an internal issue.)Alas, thats not what happened. And like I said, I offered to pay the $600 when the part came in. It took several months to get that call and at the time I did not have the money to pay, so I put it off. Then, this past week, when the light frame mysteriously popped off the car, I called the service manager at Subaru and was greeted with a very rude response. He did not understand how this could happen, as, Parts just dont come off cars. Well, sir, they do. And they have. And I cant be the only one!He questioned if someone had popped it off and taken it. I laughed. When? While Im in the grocery store? At night at the foot of my driveway? I live in a house, in a quiet neighborhood. And that part was still there before we took off on our trip. No. This likely happened while we were on the road. The real question is: Should a pot hole in the road or a rock or anything on the surface of what were driving on be the reason why a part just pops off? Probably not. With that said, please respond if you have had ANY issues with your Subaru where parts suddenly pop off, especially on the exterior of the car. Light panels, frames, bumpers. I didnt even know it was possible for this light frame to pop off like that. I was questioned repeatedly as to if there is any damage around it, and though I kept telling the same story, I was asked if there was any kind of an accident. There wasnt. And when I take it in to the dealer, they will notice that. I understand where they are coming from. But, Id also like to come in armed with evidence that this CAN happen and DOES happen to other Subaru drivers.I am a two-time Subaru driver. The first vehicle was a leased 2011 Outback Sport, same make and model, and I drove it across the country twice. Zero problems. Ive had this vehicle for under a year, and Im already dealing with parts falling off. Once again, please respond if you have had any similar experiences. It will make a better case. I appreciate it!

We have a 2009 Outback. At approx. 70000 miles (just past warranty) a vibration was becoming noticeable from the drivetrain. The Subaru dealership said it was from bad boots on the front end. We had the work done. The vibration remained so we took the car to an independent shop. They said that it could be the transfer case. To really examine it the transmission has to be dropped. We scheduled the service. When they opened the case there were bits of metal in the fluid and it was clear something had failed. Approx. $2000 later we were on the road again. The head mechanic said he had seen several failures like this. I would like Subaru to face up to this reoccurring problem and cover all repairs..

In March of 2017 we purchased a brand new 2017 Subaru Impreza and we had 4 free oil changes. And a month or less before the each oil change the oil light comes on and on the last free oil change the light came on 2 wks afterwards. They kept the car for 3/5 days to find out why the car was consuming so much oil. When we went to pick up the car, they said they couldnt find anything wrong with the car. They then wanted to do an oil consumption test. Never heard of this until it was done on my new car. They filled the motor with oil and said bring back at 1200 miles or more! Anyway we took it back and we were told, that we were going to check the oil level together after about 10/15 min. They came after 5 min to get us, (when we went outside they had already pop the latch the hood, not after,) that we were going to check the dipstick. I was suspicious. Now... not trusting this routine at all. Or the technicians. (Plus they said it was the way the driver was shifting and driving, which affects the transmission and not the motor). After talking to the person who sold us the car, and their finance person? The dealer will not take the car back, they want to give us a new one. We dont want a Subaru anymore. We have tried contacting the Subaru manufacturer to no avail. I look up fuel consumption test and Subaru popped up. Never heard of fuel consumption test. I am afraid of owning a Subaru after this happening to a new car. I have heard good things about Subaru but now I am not so sure.

Note: This is my 4th New Subaru and mostly like my last. I have had my car in at the Subaru dealer 6 times since 12/6/14 for the SAME issue and most recently 7/6/15. The issue is with Low Oil Levels. They performed 3 oil consumption tests and I have been told twice that they replaced a sensor and performed an upgrade on the software. Note: Each time I took my car in for this issue, the Oil Can Light was on and the info screen on the dash information window displayed Check Engine Oil Levels System detects low engine oil levels. The 1st time the low oil lights came on was on 12/6/14, I was on the highway, and I stopped at a nearby auto repair shop to have them check the oil. They did the check, they told me that the dipstick was dry... I requested they put oil in the car. I then drove to dealership Service Dept. that same day, 12/6/14 (Invoice # **), with miles at 18,554 (difference of 4,605 from last oil change). Note: The date of the previous oil change was on 8/16/14 (Invoice # **) with mileage at 13,949. The Subaru owners manual indicates that the car should go 7,500 miles between oil changes. 12/6/14 - start of 1st oil consumption test. The subsequent dates of these services for this same issue were: 1/3/15 (Invoice # **) mileage 19,906 in for results of 1st consumption test, they also started a second oil consumption test on 1/3/15 - same date as the 1st results, they topped off the oil. On 1/31/15 (invoice **) mileage 21,380 returned for the results of the 2nd Oil Consumption test, they also charged me for an oil change. On 3/24/15 - Oil Level Low message displayed, mile at 23,755, Invoice ** - Service covered the start of a 3rd oil consumption test, and topped off the oil. Miles since last oil change were 2,375.4/18/15 - the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. I was told by the service advisor that they were going to replace the sensor and upgrade the software, and top off the oil. The invoice # for 4/18/15 is **, mile at 25,020 - 33,640 since the last oil change, 1,265 miles since the dealer service dept. topped off the oil.7/6/15 the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. Invoice # **. Upon arrival, I showed the message displayed in my running car to the Service Advisor, he repeated the issue back to me and then the Service Manager took over. The service manager asked what service was performed last time. I told him that the service advisor indicated that they replaced sensor and they updated the software. After being at the dealership service department for over 1 hours the Service Manager informed me that they did NOT replace the sensor or upgrade the software on 4/18/15. They were going to do that today (7/6/15). Mile at on 7/6/15 27,470 - 2,450 since previous oil top off by dealership and 6,090 miles since last oil change including two oil top offs by the dealership.I will be requesting Subaru open a claim for this issue with 2014 Subaru Forester (as soon as the website will accept my vin #) as the dealership service department has failed to request Subaru, even though I have requested them to do so 3 times. Note: On July 6th, 2015 I heard a service advisor talking with another customer about his older Subaru that was in for an oil change. The customer asked the service advisor if the oil in his car would take a 3,000 mile trip, the answer was yes. I turned to the Subaru Service Manager and asked if my 2014 Subaru Forester would be good for a 3,000 mile trip without the Low Oil Level lights coming on, he said I dont think so.
I brought a 2007 Forester new, changed oil according to the owners manual.
I brought a 2007 Forester new, changed oil according to the owners manual. It started using oil from the first change. Now with 73,000 miles its using about 3 pints of oil per 5,000 miles. I took it to the dealer and they were unable to explain what was happening. I feel I should dump this thing before I have bigger problems.
