2013 Outback P2764 code. Dealership advised contacting corporate and I was offered $750 toward new car! Seriously, 125,000 miles, known transmission issue with extended warranty to 2022 but not mileage? Vehicles are meant to be driven! Beware of Subaru! Not so giving!

We were very happy with our 2015 Outback until at 33k miles we dropped the transmission. Now we are in a fight with Subaru (Corp & dealer). Three hours after we tow into dealer, get a call that the rear differential caused transmission failure. We proved that wrong with 3rd party review of diff. Next they say front differential caused transmission failure - BULL. I was able to turn ring gear, rotate planetary gears, bearings. Now a tech from HQ is coming out to dismantle transmission. Subaru says this type of trans failure is not normal - smelled like smoke and still does almost one month later. Did this happen to you?

CVT transmission failure. 9,597.70 plus tax for repair. Driving appx. 40 mph. Car shuddered, dash lights come on and car stalls. Took to dealer. Needs new transmission and torque converter. Car just past the extended warranty that Subaru offered. Subaru has known about this problem for some time... it is definitely a safety issue and the car should be recalled. Contacted Subaru headquarters with no success getting them to help with repair cost. Repairs should not cost as much as blue book value of car. I bought a Subaru because of years of hearing about their stellar reputation.

Note: This is my 4th New Subaru and mostly like my last. I have had my car in at the Subaru dealer 6 times since 12/6/14 for the SAME issue and most recently 7/6/15. The issue is with Low Oil Levels. They performed 3 oil consumption tests and I have been told twice that they replaced a sensor and performed an upgrade on the software. Note: Each time I took my car in for this issue, the Oil Can Light was on and the info screen on the dash information window displayed Check Engine Oil Levels System detects low engine oil levels. The 1st time the low oil lights came on was on 12/6/14, I was on the highway, and I stopped at a nearby auto repair shop to have them check the oil. They did the check, they told me that the dipstick was dry... I requested they put oil in the car. I then drove to dealership Service Dept. that same day, 12/6/14 (Invoice # **), with miles at 18,554 (difference of 4,605 from last oil change). Note: The date of the previous oil change was on 8/16/14 (Invoice # **) with mileage at 13,949. The Subaru owners manual indicates that the car should go 7,500 miles between oil changes. 12/6/14 - start of 1st oil consumption test. The subsequent dates of these services for this same issue were: 1/3/15 (Invoice # **) mileage 19,906 in for results of 1st consumption test, they also started a second oil consumption test on 1/3/15 - same date as the 1st results, they topped off the oil. On 1/31/15 (invoice **) mileage 21,380 returned for the results of the 2nd Oil Consumption test, they also charged me for an oil change. On 3/24/15 - Oil Level Low message displayed, mile at 23,755, Invoice ** - Service covered the start of a 3rd oil consumption test, and topped off the oil. Miles since last oil change were 2,375.4/18/15 - the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. I was told by the service advisor that they were going to replace the sensor and upgrade the software, and top off the oil. The invoice # for 4/18/15 is **, mile at 25,020 - 33,640 since the last oil change, 1,265 miles since the dealer service dept. topped off the oil.7/6/15 the car displayed the oil can light and displayed the system detects low oil level message. Invoice # **. Upon arrival, I showed the message displayed in my running car to the Service Advisor, he repeated the issue back to me and then the Service Manager took over. The service manager asked what service was performed last time. I told him that the service advisor indicated that they replaced sensor and they updated the software. After being at the dealership service department for over 1 hours the Service Manager informed me that they did NOT replace the sensor or upgrade the software on 4/18/15. They were going to do that today (7/6/15). Mile at on 7/6/15 27,470 - 2,450 since previous oil top off by dealership and 6,090 miles since last oil change including two oil top offs by the dealership.I will be requesting Subaru open a claim for this issue with 2014 Subaru Forester (as soon as the website will accept my vin #) as the dealership service department has failed to request Subaru, even though I have requested them to do so 3 times. Note: On July 6th, 2015 I heard a service advisor talking with another customer about his older Subaru that was in for an oil change. The customer asked the service advisor if the oil in his car would take a 3,000 mile trip, the answer was yes. I turned to the Subaru Service Manager and asked if my 2014 Subaru Forester would be good for a 3,000 mile trip without the Low Oil Level lights coming on, he said I dont think so.

I bought my Outback new in summer 2007. Always did oil changes every 3,000. At just over 60K (just out of warranty), the head gaskets blew. Six months later, car started leaking oil and head gaskets were done once again (under warranty of mechanic). Now, Im facing blown head gaskets again!!!! After just 20,000 miles after 2nd job. My car only has 82,000 miles. I will never buy another Subaru which is unfortunate because this is the 4th one Ive owned. The others were older but better.

Blown head gaskets at 27,400 miles. 2012 Outback, top of the line version, so granted, its not a new car, though we dont drive hard, have aged out of teen drivers, and follow service schedules. We live on a public transit line and this car has never, ever been used in rush hour traffic. Has anyone ever heard of any car, Subaru or otherwise, blowing head gaskets at mileage this low? Truth be told, this is our 3rd -- and no doubt last -- Subaru. None have made it to respectably high mileage. Theyre junk for high traffic suburban and urban driving. RIP, Subaru.

I am a loyal Subaru customer. I buy Subarus because they are dependable. My engine gave out on my 3-year-old Subaru and the warranty is not being honored. Getting a hold of someone on a national level has been close to impossible. I wait for 2-45 minutes before I am told the person I need to talk to is out of the office. When any bright light strikes the screen, it becomes almost impossible to view... Everything. Had replaced by dealer, but the problem returned. Dealer says its Common with this car. I have been a loyal customer of Saturn/Subaru of South Blvd. in Charlotte, NC. I drive a Saturn 2000 Wagon and had a problem with a weeping radiator. I took it to Subaru and told them to look for the car over to make sure there were no other problems looming so I dont put money into a car that isnt worth it. I assumed they looked it over and did the repair. I drove the car home and the next day, my husband noticed an oil leak on the garage floor. I thought it was an overflow issue since I had just gotten it out of the shop and if it was a problem, surely they would have noticed. So I just overlooked it. This continued for a couple of weeks and no lights came on, so I assumed it was no problem. It got to where there was a pool of oil left behind all the time. I took it back to Subaru and they looked at it again and determined that there was a seal leak that would cost $1800.00 to fix. It had a slow leak that turned into a gusher between Subaru and my home the day I picked it up. I was very upset that at their direction, I had just poured $1200.00 into a car that had an obvious leak that they did not even mention. Now, they tell me the car is not even worth the $1800.00 it would cost to fix. My question is: Why didnt they tell me that $1200.00 ago? I discussed it with the service manager David ** and they had no interest in doing anything to address the problem. It was my problem and their was nothing they would do. I walked in the door as a loyal customer and walked out as a very unhappy camper. I later phoned and asked to talk to the manager, who was in a meeting, so I told the man who took the message for the manager what had happened. He said he would relay the message and have him call me! It has been 2 weeks and I have not heard a word from anyone! I hope you can explain this because I am shocked that they would treat a customer like that! They turned a person, who was in the dealership in need of a new car, into a person who would never buy a car there and will be more than happy to tell all of my friends, who are lifelong animal rescuers, about my ordeal with a Subaru dealership! I even have a dear, personal friend who is a Pilots N Paws volunteer. He would be as shocked as I am if I told him this. I would like to know what you think of this. I am in the market for a new car! Your response will determine what course I could take from here! Ill await your reply! Thank you for your time! Kathy **

I purchased a new 2016 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited in March of 2016. The interior is a light-colored leather. A few months after purchase, I found that anyone wearing blue jeans in the car turned the seats blue. I contacted Subaru official site and spoke with my dealer. The dealer stated they were aware of this and have been receiving numerous customer complaints, but have no remedy to offer. They also said frequent cleaning of the leather may cause premature wear. This wasnt something I was warned about when buying the car. I traded in a 10-year-old Honda Accord with the same color leather and never had any problem with dye transfer and no problem with previous leather upholstery, including the other Outbacks in the family. Im looking at the option to trade in my 9 month old car on another brand, though it would cause a major financial loss. But I need to weigh this against the possibility of having to replace my interior.

Soon I will be rid of this 2012 Subaru Forester and will never buy a Subaru again. The oil consumption has been a quart per 1,000 miles. The manual said that this is normal. The dealerships have been unconcerned and unwilling to try to stop the consumption as it is normal. The car has 26,000 miles and 26 quarts of synthetic oil have been poured in it between the recommended oil changes. All sorts of excuses for the consumption have been given; however, I have owned very many other models of cars and trucks (probably over 50) and never had one that consistently used over a quart between changes even though some had over 200,000 miles on them. This poorly designed and supported car is unacceptable. Subaru got me once never again!

Dont Buy Subaru! I bought one, now I wish I hadnt. It wasnt until after the purchase that I realized that it was consuming oil. One day, a light came on the dash, which I learned was an Oil Level light, an Oil Level light! I checked the level and refilled the oil to the full mark, 2 1/2 quarts. I took it back to the dealer and what they had told me was that It was perfectly normal for a Subaru Outback to lose a quart every 1000 miles! This was not mentioned during the sales pitch or during the purchase; however if they had, I would not have bought the car! They recommended doing the Oil Consumption test, where you drive 1200 miles and return to the dealer four times. Yeah, a couple times it only took a half quart and it did take a quart. Well at the first attempt, my oil light came on while driving through the valley, so I had to add oil and that nullified the test and we had to start over again. Again they said that was normal and they wouldnt tell me why or how. I called Subaru of America and went back and forth with their customer service rep and she ended up hanging up on me. She did point to the owners manual, chapter/page where it did say to expect oil loss, as much as a quart every 1000 miles. Who reads a manual before a purchase? In my opinion, Subaru lied to me by means of omission. So any of you out there thinking of buying Subaru, dont do it. Ill be getting rid of this one soon and will never go Subaru again.

I shopped for a year looking for the right SUV. My troubles with Subaru began with a Grand Junction Colorado dealer who would not deal with me unless I put down a $500.00 deposit. I moved on and bought a car through a local Chevy dealer who ordered from Heuberger in Colorado Springs. The Dealer put my husbands name on the paperwork when he never dealt with my husband but with me and when I called Subaru to change this, they said they could not so all my Subaru ID is under my husbands name (irritating). Next my under 1000 miles Forester lost the wheel well trim, the rest of the first year and three trips to various Subaru dealers the cruise control would not work because the check engine light was on. Finally the Salt Lake City Subaru informed me it was a computer program that only the regional representative has to reset this and maybe in the next 6 months he would get my way. Meanwhile the wheel well trim fell off again. Next thing, a rock flew up and hit the window which is not a new cars fault but it cracked all the way through and it was a $600.00 window! Finally a year and a half after owning the new car, I got the check engine fixed so I could use the cruise control. Very unhappy that the lights in the Forester do not turn off when you turn the car off. Many a night I would have to go out to the car to turn overhead lights off that someone had turned on in the back. I havent had to do that for 4 or 5 cars ago. The car is so noisy in the interior that the Bluetooth did not work. The phone sync is basically worthless since no one can hear you. The battery went out the second year I owned the car at basically 30,000.00 miles. I think the final thing that put me over the top was that the seats all started to crack on the sides where you sit and it folds a little. I dont know how to fix this except to stand while you are driving? I called Subaru one time because it was midnight and the vehicle steering wheel was locked. I remember my Ford once did that and there was a way to jerk the wheel, etc., etc. and it would unlock. I called for some directions and the Subaru roadside assistant had no information and the only thing she could do was call a tow truck from the closest Subaru dealer (200 miles away). By the way it was 20 below outside. I called the local Chevy dealer and he helped. From the time I first contacted Subaru to the time I got rid of this car, there is not a positive experience. Thus the name for Subaru is Super** or **rue and I will never waste my money again. It cost me to get rid of this piece of **. I am definitely not feeling the love!

Went to the dealer for the FIRST 30K miles service on my 2010 Forester. The car was purchased new AND has been serviced at the dealer from day 1 according to Subarus recommended schedule. Everything was fine until the dealer told me that both rear struts are leaking and need to be replaced. The estimate is almost $1,000. I point out that I have purchased the extended warranty which has a $100 deductible. I felt that even the $100 was a rip off given the car has only 30K miles. Really? 30K miles and I have to replace both rear struts? The car is mostly used by my wife for city driving. We occasionally carry a couple bikes on a hitch mounted rack or a kayak on the roof rack with a weight of less than 100 lbs, way less than the 150 lbs limit - occasionally, not every day!! They advertise their cars as outdoors vehicles!! I bought this car with the intent to keep it for at least 15 years given that we put only 6K miler per year. My 2001 Toyota Camry runs like as Swiss clock with 120K miles on it. Never done anything to it other than religious maintenance. So I called Subaru USA and complained and they kindly told me I wont have to pay the deductible to the dealer as they would take care of it. No complaints there, nice service. But my question is, should I keep this car past the extended warranty? I dont trust it anymore. My brother-in-law has the same car but 2009 model. With less than 50K miles on it, he had to replace the head gasket. Since his warranty had expired only the previous month, Subaru USA was kind enough to fix it for free. Again, great service!! Otherwise it would have been a $2,000 repair. I lost faith in Subarus reliability. I was thinking to buy the new Outback this year to replace my Camry, but I decided instead I will sell the Forester once the warranty expires and will buy another Toyota, and I will keep my Camry!! Too bad because the new models look really nice. But reliability is the most important factor for me when I purchase a vehicle. Subaru: your reputation is NOT deserved.

We have a 2009 Suburu Forester with 8,790 miles on it. We drive relatively little compared to many families, and have taken excellent care of the car, meeting all of the required inspections. Last Sunday (Oct. 31st) ,as I backed out of a shopping mall parking place and started down the aisle toward the exit, the car gave a sudden sharp, powerful acceleration, as if the accelerator was pushed down hard. It lasted only a couple of seconds, and did not cause a problem. It did not reoccur the next day. However, on Tuesday (Nov. 1st), it happened again, this time causing a small accident. My wife pulled out of a parking lot on to a small side street, immediately making a left turn toward the main thoroughfare. The car gave the same sudden, sharp acceleration as she was making the turn and, as a consequence, the right front tire slammed into the curb on the far side of the side street, before she could brake, slashing the front tire. Although only one tire was involved, we had to buy 4 new tires (at a cost of $616).We are making two requests: 1. Reimbursement of the cost of the new tires 2. Investigation of this potentially dangerous condition to be sure that it doesnt happen to others.

00 Outback wagon keeps on keepin on. Just flipped 220k and recently completed the dreaded head gasket job on this beast. Both drivers side cylinders were venting into the coolant and I took on this task very soon after diagnosing the blown head gasket. $300 and 40 hours later, mission accomplished...about $1,200 cheaper than having the dealership do it. This problem I anticipated and with this many miles, not a complaint. Things wear out...nuff said. I have two gripes, the first being the engine noise...the work I did had little impact on this embarrassing feature which is common on these cars. Second and biggest issue is the ho-hum mileage this car delivers... best Ive had was 25 mpg. Its just too heavy for the engine and the final drive ratio doesnt deliver what it should on the highway. Then again, this thing is a tank and considered a mid-sized car, pushing nearly 2 tons with a couple of passengers and a light load.

Blind spot sensor not functioning. Has been at Subaru Superstore in Chandler, Arizona for one week. After doing extensive research with friends and family, lots of online work, the wife and I decided to purchase our first new car. Big mistake with Subaru. W/in the first year we were burning a quart every 700 miles. The dealer said to carry a quart with us. After numerous complaints to the dealer, they finally decided to do an oil consumption test. After 700 miles (of test) I finally checked the oil level and we were a quart overfilled. P.O.ed... I brought it back and confirmed the overfill... They told me they must not have calibrated the fill gun. Really??They restarted the test to confirm the excessive burn. Dealer then re-did some piston rings and said good to go. 300 mile road trip to find, after 100 miles the oil light came on again... Calling the dealer again, numerous times to get a call back, they said it is normal. Again... My wife took over the communications with them. After only a year and a half I sold the POS... Do not let Subaru BS you. A brand new car should NOT burn that much, let alone need to car Extra oil with you!! I could write a book on this one... but wont waste your time.

My 2011 Subaru Outback stalled out on the 101 South driving back from San Francisco. At any hard brake the car would shudder and/or quit. Extensive research has informed me that this is a very common problem with Subarus, resulting from a failed torque converter. Owners of Subarus have posted about this problem for many years. The Subaru dealership from where I bought my Outback, and which is making the repair, just confirmed it is the torque converter that has failed and will be charging me $2016.59 for the repair. I am coming out of pocket over $2,000 to replace a part Subaru has known for years FAILS. Not only have they received many complaints about this part, it is a DANGEROUS problem for the car to have. It should have resulted in a recall by now, there are so many complaints. The car can stall at a red light, on the highway, or anywhere else where a hard, fast brake is required by the driver.

Imagine my shock when I was told I had oil leaking from my head gasket. Then soon after the antifreeze started leaking. I wrote to SOA and was told this was normal wear on a car with 139000 miles. Shame on you Subaru. I have since found many people with the same leaking gasket issue on different model/year/mileage of Subarus. A google search will show you or just ask any mechanic or your Subaru owning friends. I wish I had done better homework. I love my AWD wagon but never another Subaru.

I saw paint bubble up and peel on my 1 year old Subaru. I took to a body shop and they said it was defective paint. I took it to Subaru and they accused me over and over again of allowing bird droppings to sit on my car and eat away the paint! Kristen was so rude. Here I see a major problem with a new car and she is yelling at me. They refused to repair it of course. Then I read all the bad news on Subaru in general. If you get a good one, you are lucky. The paint sucks, it burns oil and you never get the mileage they advertise - it is false. Oh well. So much for service 25,000 later and they cant put decent paint on a car.

Need a AWD car for ease of operation for my wife. Need it to be able to function well on icy and snow covered roads. Need power since we live in a mountain region and sometimes pull a tent trailer. Subaru with the 6 cylinder engine fits these criteria very well. I own 3 six cylinder Subarus and one 4 cylinder model. All are lasting quite well and get good gas mileage compared to our friends with various makes and models of cars. I would and have purchased Subarus again and again.

I am now experiencing problems with my 2013 Subaru Outback I purchased new from a dealer. I see on this forum, other who have similar problems. The oil light has come on several times and the transmission is surging and bucking at low speeds and while lightly loaded. Ive had the car serviced for these problems twice. The transmission is especially troubling as my warranty expires in 5,000 miles and they cant find the problem. (Design flaw?) So far, I spent hundreds on a throttle plate cleaning and an oil change that I didnt need. Subaru claimed that the oil was over serviced by Jiffy Lube. Okay. So drain some out and dont charge me $77 for an oil change. Plus, nth is didnt fix the transmission. Its still surging and bucking. Anyone else? Should there be a recall? Subaru might have the nicest people working there and might make a very safe car, but if its always in the shop, how would I know?

Being a Subaru owner brings peace of mind to many drivers. With an all-wheel drive transmission that is supposed to be the best in AWD, and an engine that is supposed to go 300 thousand miles, many people feel like they made a good choice in purchasing a Subaru. However, I have news for those of you with false hope. My car made it 30 thousand miles before it needed a new engine. The whole engine was replaced which cost about 10,000 to repair (what I was told by the technicians). A field technician inspected my car for abuse; of course he didn’t find it, instead he found that it was a manufacturing defect. One month later I got my car back.At 33,000 miles my car was once again “like new”! However, only 26,000 miles after a new engine, a “defective camshaft pulley” broke causing damage on my camshaft, valves and overall one of the heads. I was simply driving down the road and it felt like the car ran out of gas and it would not turn on again. Subaru did not cover the tow. Once again they repaired my car which took another month. I would like to mention that they did in fact cover the repair once again because my car is under warranty. The 2nd major repair was also a few thousand dollars. One mile down the road from Subaru (Bob **, Subaru, West Lafayette, IN) a carelessly installed fuel-like sprayed gas all over my hot engine! This has honestly put my life in danger. The car could have caught on fire or blown up!!!These bad repairs and “defective” parts from Subaru make me feel like my sporty car is made out of glass. I drive my “sports car” like if it was an old car that could break at any time. OF COURSE I NEED EXTENDED WARRANTY. My car is a little over 1,000 miles away running out of powertrain warranty. Keep in mind these repairs happened 1 month ago. Later I got into contact with Linda **, the Subaru of America Customer Service Supervisor, and she said there was nothing she could do to help me. Such a massive company like Subaru could not offer help for a defective car they sold me. They could not offer me extended warranty, they could not give me extended warranty at a discount, NOR COULD THEY EVEN SELL ME EXTENDED WARRANTY. Im not asking for anything more than extended warranty from whoever you would like, or the $2,000 it costs so I can buy one.How can Subaru not do such a simple thing? They sold me a defective piece of junk and I have to deal with it. They do not back up their own cars. I would not recommend that anyone buy a Subaru in the United States. It will break. It will be expensive. And it will certainly not last 300,000 miles. If you have warranty, at the very least it WILL be an inconvenience not having a car for a few weeks while it is being fixed. Please tell me if you think my car will make it 200,000 miles at least.I am very unhappy with the customer service Linda ** provided me with. She did not do anything towards helping me. She did not meet me halfway nor tell me who I could speak to that would solve my problem. She also talked to me in a disrespectful tone which honestly could just have been her “customer service” voice. I need 100,000 or 4-year extended powertrain warranty. Is really impossible from Subaru? Please know I am awaiting for this issue to be resolved.

The rear seat heating seats was a plus, as well as the side view mirror defrost. The 4 wheel drive is something I really wanted too. Has late night purchase, gave finance manager $15000 cashiers check us and additional $2000 cash to get my monthly payment down below $400/month. After reviewing my paperwork couple days after, realize they added $1000 to my agreed purchase price. Before confronting Jay, salesperson, about this problem I went through my car details including the price he gave me. Two separate times he agreed with the price he had given me by phone on more than 3 occasions before I committed to purchase. This price was the original price Jay told me at the beginning. After he reconfirmed his and my price two additional times, I told him that I had given extra cash during financing and told him exactly $1000 added to my initial price. He hesitated, then said it was the changed figure. It was obvious he was covering for finance and Moe sales manager. So I gave Jay and Moe a week to come up with solution... Long story short they didnt. So contacted GM, Jobe **. He said he would find out info and get back to me... He didnt. Finally got him on phone week later and he told me he had talked to owners and he has good and favorable news for me, put me on hold so he could get my paperwork. After holding for short while, unidentified person came on phone asking if the could help me..(?) I told them I was holding for Jobe. That he had asked me to hold awaiting answer for my situation. Person, Moe, sales manager, said Jobe was in a meeting. That he wanted to know how he could help me(?) Not wanting to rehash again with someone who had previously refused to do anything for over 10 days after knowing of problem. Since then... I contacted Subaru of America for help communicating with Glendale Subaru, Jobe, GM because he refused on 3 separate occasions to take my phone call. Plus I called Lane ** general sales manager. He didnt return my call. I asked Moe, by email twice to relay the owners and GMs solution, but he and GM refused to return my call. Now he told corporate Customer service agent trying help me get info that the GM and Owners had decided. Its become obvious the GM put this $1000 cash fraud back on Moe... Because Moe, Glendale sales manager, refuses to relay this message. Seems likely he is directly involved in this late night fraudulent buying transaction. I would advise ANYONE looking to purchase a Subaru... I 1000% would never do business with Glendale Subaru!! They protect and cover for each other with dishonest transaction. From GM by washing his hands of the situation by not getting involved and leaving it up to his dishonest sales and finance department to get out of this situation alone. In my opinion, Jobe lacks a backbone because he refuses to talk to dissatisfied customers. Yet he blows smoke up peoples rear, by saying he and his dealership are honest and he wants to make thing right and wants to make sure THEIR customers are happy. The GM and THEIR sales staff at Glendale in my opinion are ripping off THEIR owners $$... Very very unhappy Glendale Subaru and Corporate Customers service for allowing this GM to say he is happy with his dealerships customer outreach (ha ha) towards me. Dismissing all my attempts to get him on phone and to complete telling me his owners good and favorable decision. Absolute appalling customer care and outreach. What a rotten egg dealership. Makes me wonder how much $$$ they have defrauded other customers. Ive consulted other car dealers, GMs and previous Subaru Dealership owners. They know exactly what happened. They told me its obvious the GM, Jobe, knows too. He doesnt want to write a check so he just told culprits, his finance and sales to handle the situation they created. BOTTOM LINE. This lack of customer care and outreach to take care of this issue. Receives 1 on scale of 10 for honesty and true care for all customers. I know now I was foolish to give Glendale Subaru any cash. Especially at last transaction of work night. That further explain why the finance manager stuck the cash $ in his pocket... Thought that was highly unusual.

We took it in because it was whining and had lost power. I had checked the engine oil the night before and it was at the right level. First off never buy anything from Lees Summit Subaru. They scratched up a fender detailing the Forester and it was a pathetic detail job. When they looked at the Forester they said it was a quart low on oil and the reason it was probably whining and the loss of power was a blown turbo. They said my extended Subaru warranty wouldnt cover the repair because it was a quart low on oil even though I said it was fine on oil the night before. I called around to a few Subaru dealerships service departments and was told even if it was a quart low on oil that wouldnt cause the turbo to fail. They said the reason for the turbo failure was probably a clogged banjo filter in the turbo line.Since Subaru wouldnt cover it even though there was no mention of a banjo filter in any of the manuals they gave me, it doesnt even show the banjo filter on any of the diagrams. So I learned 4 things: 1. Never buy a Subaru; 2. Never buy anything from Lees Summit Subaru. Every time I had to deal with them they didnt care and it was a nightmare. The only pretty much they managed to do right is take my money and screw us over; 3. Dont bother buying a Subaru extended warranty because it probably wont help as far as theyre concerned. 4. Dont trust the manuals, go to Subaru.org to see whats really going on. At least Ive talked people out of buying Subarus! I hate Subaru. I hope they go bankrupt!

My remote on my Subaru Outback 3.6R goes off in my pocket while I walk, lay around, bend over or just hang out while at my house. The back gate opens automatically most of the time without my awareness. Completely breaks my confidence in the security of my car. Sometimes opens up 2-3 times on a bad day. Cant say how disheartening it is to come out from a friends place in a bad neighborhood and see my car hatch opened and my car unguarded. This potentially has left my car unguarded as long as Ive been at a place. Subaru should re-design the key fob and issue a new one under a recall! The back gate on a person’s car cant just open every other day when youre not looking or thinking of your car! My cargo is always important and should never be a 50/50 worry that my hatch opened as I walk away. The car is great in every other way than this. But with that said I brought it to Subaru attention and they just told me that there is nothing they can do to deactivate that part of the car fob.

If all the stories were true, Subaru was going to be a great first new car. 300,000 miles I could expect without any major problems. The year was 2009, times were tough but I love my wife and wanted to get her safe car for the icy winters. I have had several problems with this vehicle. The first one being an axle broke and 60,000 miles, second one being replacing the head gaskets and 80,000 miles-- This should have been a factory recall. Now throwout bearing cost $1300 with only hundred and 5000 miles. Wonder what will be next for this car. I will say local Subaru dealer help pay for the axle, I still had to pay for labor. Subaru USA did help pay for the head gasket but I still had to go to my 401(k) to pay $1200. When you live paycheck to paycheck and wanted by new reliable car, is Subaru really the car for you? This is my story.

We purchased a used 2011 Outback with 175K miles from a private party. Higher mileage for sure, but at a decent price and we needed an AWD vehicle. We were told how great Subarus were, especially for snow. After a few months the car started sputtering from a stop, and multiple warning lights would come on... Blinking A/T temp light (even though it wasnt driven far enough, or hard enough to overheat), cruise control, & brake lights, and the CEL would stay on!!After some research I came to the realization that this seems to be a problem with Subaru CVTs. So much so that Subaru extended the warranty on them, but did not do a recall. Great for buyers that fell within the time/mileage limit, not so much for everyone else that have these issues later on. The transmission shop is trying to find a solution that is (relatively) inexpensive. Because the price for a new, or rebuilt CVT is around $7,500, getting transmission issues on anything but a newer model (which would still be under warranty) would mean the car is basically a throwaway unless you want to buy a transmission that cost as much as the car is worth.

I had talked my mom into a Subaru Legacy 3017. I took it in with less than 2000 miles saying it shows the oil is really low. The tech looked at it and said oh its fine and I could not believe it but it showed full at the dealership. The next time I checked it in the drive it showed low again. I thought well there is a slight slant to the drive. That must be it. We had the battery go dead 4 times over the winter. I mean to the point that my jump box that will start my pick up that someone hit in the rear end. I only drive it when I have to haul something so its usually pretty dead. It will start it right up it took forever on this one. Today I am totally lost as to why I called several places and I just get told each place, Oh you need to call here or there. I called about the maps part of this on a 2017 Subaru Legacy that just came from being serviced at 3100 miles and it does have problems they cannot duplicate. I was a Service Manager for GM for years and a service writer. I LOVED the job, but I could at least answer some questions. I have yet to get one question answered. I was going to buy a used Subaru from the same dealership but at this point, I think I will stick with a GM car... I can at least get an answer. I first started to ask if I need to PAY for Starlink to be able to use the maps as every site I look at says with Starlink and maps its so nice. I have not once been able to get the maps to go anywhere by voice commands if I do get a response other than being told she did not understand. Then I would get other states coming up... It took 15-30 minutes to manually get one time the map to work right and every other time I just grabbed the Garmin and said well they have always been my choice of GPS and very easy to get to a location. I asked this girl where the SD card is in the vehicle. She said well didnt I go to that site. The one I am at now and I said YES and have already downloaded the toolbox but on a video, it said they could be located in several different spots. She said call toolbox as she only deals with Maps. I said isnt this all part of it. She said no. Is there anything else she could help me with. I said, I guess not. You did like every other Subaru Phone number I called... telling me to call someone else. They had no idea about Starlink or Sirius or what I was talking about. My next call is going to be to the Attorney General since NO ONE wants to help at all... but boy they were sure there to sell the vehicle. I honestly was going to get a Subaru until I seen how hard it is to get 1 question answered and I had several to ask and was cut off every time... I do better calling DirecTV or my Insurance Co. and they get me to my boiling point after all the BS. I think they need a Class Action suit as we just had the oil changed they said they had to do an update for the battery. The next time I go to drive it the Nav system kept telling me it didnt understand or would send me to other states. I tried to put it in manually and had trouble. I called and got that run around. I have the feeling if we dont pay the Starlink yearly they will even lock you out. I read about that on other sites. One being the piXXed off the page. I am VERY VERY dissatisfied the way I have been treated so far. I just drove the car without the radio on and think I had better check the oil myself as it does not sound right at all... I think I will stick with GM and not get a Subaru like I was going too... Best wishes to all Subaru owners. I did talk to a guy at the after-hours place and I said I would just wait until they are open Monday since he said he could not help at all with why nothing was working.

I have a 2007 Subaru Impreza 2.5i that I bought new in Massachusetts. The first few years seemed to go okay except for the $350 dollar services and the fact that the car dents when you look at it funny (literally hundreds of door dings 7 years later). I maintained impeccable service history and records but it started feeling funny in 2009 - gas mileage was tanking, engine felt off, acceleration was sluggish. I drive... a lot ... on road ... on dirt roads ... I use the car as the commercials show but do not abuse it. 2010 the brakes fail and I run off the road. 2010 (69,000 miles - so off warranty now), after complaining about the engine running funny for over a year to Subaru service centers, a local mechanic discovers the head gaskets are leaking. Subaru agrees to pay for half of the repair. Great! I am happy with the company and simply mad at the service centers for not finding it. Since then, it seems like everything that has a seal or bearings is beginning to fail - two transmission leaks, power steering pump, ac belt tensioner, coil pack (cylinders 3 and 4 started misfiring causing the car to smoke, shudder, and die), ignition wires (twice - once routine maintenance), front axle seals, differential... The thing leaks oil if you dont use a Subaru brand oil filter. It eats tires in half their designated lifetime, even with regular rotation and alignment. Oh, for a car that is advertised for the adventurer, perhaps they could work to make the alignment a little harder to throw off - any bump in the rode and it goes out. The exhaust pipe broke its weld (presumably from the aforementioned offroading, which consists of driving on flat, well maintained farm roads). The 3-year bill for my car, 75000-113000 miles, for routine and additional maintenance, has been almost 7000 dollars. I am not naive when it comes to car expenses. I did not expect this car to be worry free, maintenance free, or without a half life crisis at 100,000 miles but every time something fails on the car, I call up Subaru dealers around the northeast and I ask: Is this normal? Every time they say they rarely see it break. I have contacted Subaru of America and told them of these problems. They have offered me $500 towards a new car, like I will ever buy another one.

I leased a new Impreza from Ganley Subaru of Bedford, OH, three weeks ago and have been there for service four times already with still more safety issues hovering over my head. I discovered (the hard way) that all Imprezas have at least these problems: 1) The wheels are wobbly causing shakes and vibration. I have been to service three times to get them fixed, though it got better, it is still shaky. 2) The automatic unlock switch cannot unlock any door if the lock key at the door is in mid-way position. This is a severe safety risk in case of accidents if a person has to exit the car quickly after fire or flooding.3) The information gauges for gas mileage and distance of travel are practically useless and are off by 50% or more which means you can run out of gas if you rely on these gauges. 4) The advertised gas mileage of 32 MPG is questionable, since all information gauges give you the wrong readings. 5) After parking, the steering wheel gets jammed and locked and requires some wiggling effort to unlock it.

Our 2010 Outback failed on a road trip in a cloud of smoke a few days and less than 1,000 miles after an oil change and 23-pt. inspection at the selling dealership. Were told the engine block would need replacement -- $5,200 -- and a $1,300 tear down to see what other engine parts would need replacement. With few options, in another city, we traded the remains on a 14 Forester. The Outback used immense quantities of oil; we began changing every 1,500-2000 miles and always carried oil because the light went on frequently. Dealers that checked said no biggie. Three times we had episodes where the idiot lights all went on, the Outback shuddered, had no power, etc. Bad plugs (after a dealer change) and perhaps briefly using hi-test gas were blamed. I think NHTSA needs to look at engine reliability.

Me and my 12 year old had a lady pull out in front of us in my 2012 Subaru Forester. We ended up hitting a telephone pole on the drivers side. Thank goodness but my side impact air bag did not deploy, I was slammed into the pole very hard and I was doing 20mph when I started down the hill, factor in the velocity of the slide on ice and snow and I was doing well over the 8mph needed to deploy the air bag. I hit hard enough to crumple the rocker sill inside the door and snap the bumper clips and flatten the front tire. We had seat belt bruises of course, my daughter hurt her knee on the door, I injured my arm and shoulder, and slammed my head violently. When I contacted Subaru about this, they did not seem overly concerned, Im still yelling at them about this. I dont know about anyone else but I feel this is a serious malfunction. Ive had other problems too, faulty seatbelts, engine running rough and smelling bad, brakes going bad, stalling, loss of power. And every time I take it back to the dealer, they say we cant do anything, the check engine light is not on. To say the least, this is the most frustrating thing Ive ever heard it makes me want to pull my hair out. I bought my Subaru because Ive owned 3 older ones like 80s and they were good old beaters ya know, so I figured Id buy a newer one. Mine only had 20,000 on it, like new. I wish Id never bought this car, what a mistake.Anyone else feel this way, these big companies always getting away with rooking us little guys? I even contacted a lawyer, he said good luck. Im like really? they almost killed me. I think Im going to try to take them on myself!!! Anyone else interested? If you are write to me **. Im so sick of these guys rooking everyone. You pay 30,000 for a car, it shouldnt be a piece of junk death trap that stalls and does hesitates when you step on it so you can get hit by people real nice. But ya know the check engine light isnt on so we cant fix it. Hey I have no brakes. Well the brakes look good to us we cant help you. Really??? God, such crap.

I dont think I will purchased car Subaru again after I had a bad experience with Subaru located in Troy, MI. They had an advertisement said that if you had a test drive at their location, you earned $50 gift card, no purchased necessary. So I and my husband decided to go to have a try with this brand name at their location instead the dealership on Hall Rd. We went there, did a test drive, even purchased their car. After 1 hour, I asked them about the $50 gift card. They said they would mail it to my house. It has been 2 months now after I made the purchase, I received nothing. I called the salesman, emailed him, left voicemail, nothing, no response. I called his manager and left a voicemail, no response either. I think we did purchase the car, they dont care about what they promised and their customer anymore. I should never trust them. Worst service ever. Never come back.

My wife and I purchased a new 2017 Subaru Forester and unfortunately, another driver hit the car and tore off the front bumper. This happened on October 7 and now the bumper part wont be available from Subaru until November 6 or possibly later. Originally, Subaru said the bumper would be available on October 20. As we were planning on using the car for an extended trip, this has completely disrupted our plans and Subaru wont do anything about it.

Hi, we have a relatively old Subaru, about 8 years but very low mileage and the a/c failed with a projected cost of $2,500. Seeing as the vehicle has been used very little, the repair amounts to $3 for every hour it has been driven. I asked if this was normal from Subaru and they simply explained that it was out of warranty. So if you want a reliable car that is going to last for years, and you have low mileage, maybe best to look elsewhere, as they appear unconcerned that there are failures despite low usage. Warranty should be time or mileage-based. My first and last Subaru, oh well.

We were impressed that our car insurance went up only $3 on a brand new car! This is due to the safety features. Major transmission issues within the first 25000 miles, 2 years. Brought my manual 2017 WRX in due to noise in transmission area. They said some parts need to be replaced (bearing, etc) and they installed plate, cover, spring, fork, bearing, flywheel and the whole thing. Picked it up on Wednesday and on Thursday while driving on the freeway something popped in the transmission area and the car was towed back in the shop (Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City California) in less than 24 hours from the time I had received it. This is absolutely unacceptable. I have been driving transmission manual cars for 30 years and to get this kind of performance at such low miles is scary.

I purchased a used 2000 Subaru Outback in November 2011. The rear K-frame rusted through and the rear axle came loose in December. I paid nearly $1000 in parts and labor to replace it. A week or so later, I found out from a friend that I should look into a recall they had heard about. I came to find out that Subaru had issued a recall on that very issue. The sprayed undercoat for the 2000 Outback was insufficient and caused the rear frame to rot at an advanced rate. I contacted Subaru and they directed me to send them a copy of my bill for the damage, which I did. They took forever to get back to me and denied my claim, even though they contacted my mechanic and I was willing to submit pictures of the work in progress. They cited that the gentleman who had done the work was not a New York State registered mechanic, which he is not. Had I known of the recall, I would have had it taken care of the problem with a properly registered mechanic. I would have taken my car to a dealership for crying out loud. I took care of it on my own the most inexpensive way possible. Subaru should have reimbursed me gratefully as I probably saved them a large sum doing so. I feel they are being unfair and I should be compensated.

We purchased a 2019 Ascent and love many things about it. The one thing we DO NOT is the MPG. We have carefully monitored the MPG in all sorts of circumstances, even trying to drive at the speed limit on cruise control for several hours in 8th speed in the manual mode. That is where we got the best MPG at 19.2. At no other time have we been close to the quoted number. Our average has been 17.2 city and 18.8 highway, which are very different numbers from what the window sticker numbers showed. We have tried endlessly to work with Subaru of America and have had little to no help as they are not taking ownership of the discrepancy and they just keep trying to put it back on the dealership. Clearly this is a corporate issue as they build the vehicles and the dealership just sells them!

I bought a Subaru Outback 2012 from a dealer on Cape Cod. They caused me a lot of grief by selling me an afterMarket stereo/GPS that was miserable. After 5 very ugly attempts at repair they gave me a good one to get rid of me. I bought the car with an extended warranty to 100,000 miles. Now, at 140,000 miles the CVT transmission died. Subaru CVT transmissions are SEALED UNITS. They have lifetime automatic transmission fluid. You cannot check it or change it. Does that sound like a bad idea? It is. My tranny failed admittedly after a lot of miles, but I drive very very carefully. I get 120,000 miles form original tires and brakes. Beware if you buy an Outback. A new transmission is $6,600 plus $1,500 install. $8,000 to use the car. I am told Toyota transmissions NEVER have a problem. NEVER.

However, I generally do have good experience with Subaru dealership service centers so I was surprised that Koeppel felt like going to a mechanic shop instead. Online it appears that you can schedule a drop-off of your car but when I arrived they had no knowledge of the appointment. They hassled me about every point including the problem with the car, the price, why I didnt want to stay with the car when I had to go to work, why I didnt pick it up sooner, etc... It would have been fine if they had not followed up with an email about my complaints to continue to badger me and blame me for my bad experience. There was never once an apology.

I bought the Legacy L with 320,000 miles on it and after putting another 3200 miles on it, the car still runs great. I did not purchase the vehicle from a dealership, I purchased it used from a private owner that I knew from the store I worked at. The asking price was $1500 which was great. He knew that I needed a reliable vehicle to get me back. I like that it is an AWD and is an excellent car to do road trips. Climbs mountains & rocks like a 4WD, but can still drive in the city and neighborhood like a RWD. It can go over anything and has power windows, 5 speed and cruise control. It is very roomy, & comfortable. The back seat comes out giving extra room for everything or everyone that you need to travel with you. The #1 thing I dislike is the automatic seatbelts. They choke me every time I start the car. I would take out that feature and just put in the manual seatbelts. But other than that, the Subaru Legacy L has probably been the best car that I have ever purchased and would definitely purchase again, when this one decides to die on me, lol!

I have never owned a Subaru before. After this car I will never own a Subaru again. What a piece of crap this car is. The only good things about this car are the generous cargo space, the (so far) lack of repair bills and the resale value. That is it. Everything else BLOWS. The acceleration is abysmal. The braking is ridiculously soft and bad. The handling, well, there is no handling on this car and good luck taking it on road trips; you will spend 75% of the time fighting with the steering wheel to keep the car from wandering all over the road. Oh and dont even think about taking a corner fast with this car! The A/C is adequate, but god forbid you step on the gas, IT WILL STOP COOLING! The CVT transmission hesitates, is jerky and Subaru says thats perfectly normal! The sound system and entertainment screen is just an embarrassment. The backup camera of course is very LOW-RES. The MPG on the sticker is a BIG LIE; I have never gotten anything over 24 miles per gallon with this car. I wont even keep typing, as Subaru doesnt deserve for me to spend another second writing about this substandard vehicle. Make sure you test drive this vehicle many, many times before you buy it, and for the love of god do not even think about buying the 4 cylinder, unless you like to be blown off the interstate by trucks since your car will not be able to accelerate enough to merge. This car is for people who are not drivers. At this point I am just waiting for the car to start burning through oil, as 99.9% of the Outbacks are doing. The car is only good for hauling stuff in the snow. It gets two overall stars from me for that. Thats about it.

The car is very reliable and I have owned it for 6 years. I for the typical maintenance on the car and have had no additional problems. It drives very well and handles the snow well. After owning a car with cloth seats, I would consider leather. While the cloth cleans up well, its just not practical with kids and dogs. Its an older model and did not come with Bluetooth. It would be a nice benefit to have it. But price was a strong factor when choosing this car and it was affordable in comparison to competitors. I have a huge sunroof which I love. Ive taken excellent care of my Subaru, put all 100k miles on it myself, regularly had it maintained at Subaru of Plano and did any and all maintenance work they recommended. I trusted them completely. Month ago I took it in, agreed to all fluids being replaced. $900 later I drove out, barely got out of the lot before realizing a terrible noise (thought it was a motorcycle in next lane!). Turned around to take it back to dealer, heard a terrible grinding noise. Had a mechanic at dealership ride w/ me who acknowledged the howling sound & grinding, said hed fix it. Brought it back & said Austin (another mechanic) forgot to top off the oil. I left, realized the howling sound was better but still there, returned, had Service Manager ride w/ me, he acknowledged the problem, put me in a loaner car & said theyd fix it.When I was told it was ready (a week later) I was shocked to find the noise remains. Subaru of Plano NOW claims they cant hear anything, they will not be repairing it. Ive learned from 2 other mechanics that the Differential was damaged due to the low oil level they caused. I will never buy another one. Trying to find some recourse for what has shortened the life of my car and altered any resale value.

Ran out of gas at midnight coming home from work. I had to leave my car in the middle of road. And bonus! Had to deal with a creepy dude harassing me! Fun. Luckily a nice couple scared him off. Subaru finally recalled this car for this specific issue. They need to replace the head units but wont do that. We had this gas issue fixed before the recall. Be aware. It took two weeks and was messed up. Xmode stopped working which we didnt find out until we needed it on a gravel road in the mountains. Also the software didnt match the features of the car. In March of 2017 we purchased a brand new 2017 Subaru Impreza and we had 4 free oil changes. And a month or less before the each oil change the oil light comes on and on the last free oil change the light came on 2 wks afterwards. They kept the car for 3/5 days to find out why the car was consuming so much oil. When we went to pick up the car, they said they couldnt find anything wrong with the car. They then wanted to do an oil consumption test. Never heard of this until it was done on my new car. They filled the motor with oil and said bring back at 1200 miles or more! Anyway we took it back and we were told, that we were going to check the oil level together after about 10/15 min. They came after 5 min to get us, (when we went outside they had already pop the latch the hood, not after,) that we were going to check the dipstick. I was suspicious. Now... not trusting this routine at all. Or the technicians. (Plus they said it was the way the driver was shifting and driving, which affects the transmission and not the motor). After talking to the person who sold us the car, and their finance person? The dealer will not take the car back, they want to give us a new one. We dont want a Subaru anymore. We have tried contacting the Subaru manufacturer to no avail. I look up fuel consumption test and Subaru popped up. Never heard of fuel consumption test. 2015 Keyless Legacy Outbacks electric shuts down, no recourse - Several months ago a purchased a new Subaru Outback from Herb Gordon Subaru. First, I truly did not understand what keyless technology meant in practice. When I got it home the trunk lift would only lift halfway. I took it back. They fixed it. It broke again. It later fixed itself. But, one day I moved the car in the driveway and forgot to put it in park. Apparently my husband opened it to put something in. When I came out I could not get it in park and it would not start. It was in total lockdown as if the electric system had totally shut down. I sat with the unreadable instruction book and figured out how to manually get it in park but no luck on starting. My neighbor, an engineer, tried, no luck. Finally after several hours called roadside assistance and they jumped it and all was fine. Friday my husband moved it again in the driveway and forgot to put it in park. Same thing. I got it into park but then nothing would work. It was a Friday so called dealership service. The guy talked me through a few things but said that he thought it was a bigger problem and I should bring it in (a two hour drive). Roadside assistance sent the fax to the wrong place and 3 hours and many phone calls later roadside assistance showed up but this time it would not jump and we arranged for him to come back the next day, Saturday, and tow it to the nearest dealership which is in Waldorf Maryland and hour from my house. I spoke with the woman on the phone, she took the information, but no one has called back as promised I assume because it is the weekend. So I will begin Monday. But this is what I want to say. I hate this car. I love everything but this shut down thing and I dont trust that it will ever be fixed and I think it is an outrage that I buy a brand new car and it does something like this and no one even gets in touch with me.This is my third Subaru and I have loved them in the past BUT the last one had a minor electrical problem (it was an odd year, 2006, in which they tried to combine the heating controls with the radio and you can imagine the result) but it was not like getting stuck for 3 days luckily at home. I feel helpless to do anything but to go onto every consumer website I can find and tell my long sad story. I am giving the car the worst rating possible because it flunked the reliability test so all other things make no difference.

We bought our Subaru Outback brand new, with about 10 miles on it, we got it because we wanted a reliable car and we loved the fact that it was a dog car. Within a few months I started noticing a vibration when accelerating, I brought it to the dealership no less than 20 times and it could not be duplicated by the technicians. Finally around 38,000 miles we bought 4-new tires, YES, FOUR! This did not help. 40,000 they replaced a rear wheel bearing (felt like vibration was in the front?), I thought this might fix it, but it still shakes.NEXT issue, which is probably far worse! The battery. The first time we had a dead battery we had just shopped at Costco, the entire back of the car was filled with groceries, the car wouldnt start. We called the Subaru tow service, they started it but it promptly died. We had to have someone come and get our groceries, then have our car towed to the dealership. Yes, we got a loaner car for the weekend, but on Monday they said there was nothing wrong. Repeat this 2, 3, 4, 5 TIMES! I would be stuck in the garage, the car wouldnt start, my husband at work, wouldnt start. Would take off after a sluggish start, stop at a stop sign, then boom, it dies right there. Dealership response- Hummm, looks fine, must be because you are not driving it enough, or you are leaving the lights on, or the hatch open. We just had our 4th NEW battery put in, the last brand new battery was exactly 3-months ago. This car is a lemon. I started researching online, WOW, we are not the only ones out there with this problem, Subaru has a real problem, the battery has got to be an electrical issue. The vibration is a mystery. I used to love my Subaru, now I really dislike it.

We purchased a Subaru Outback new in 2013, after many oil changes our car started using a quart of oil in between every oil change. Subaru says, it is normalto use a quart of oil in between oil changes. As time goes on, we have had it in numerous times and they cannot figure out why its using oil. Subaru has known that there is a problem and they offered an extended warranty for this issue. Again, I️ keep working with the dealership and they now say, we need a short block. Interesting that now we am completely out of warranty. They are willing to give me 1,000 toward fixing the issue. The completed bill will come to $4,400. I will admit the car gets around beautiful in bad weather but that is the only happiness we have seen in this car so far. We were hoping to get 250,000 miles on this car but at this point we will have to get a new one soon. Just a fair warning, read all reports before you buy a Subaru!

Overall, I am a happy Subaru customer. I just wanted to let everyone know what the issue is with my vehicle. I purchased my 2014 Outback in February 2014. Since then, I am on my third head unit to repair Failed Connection on the receiver unit for my blue-tooth. Not a big deal overall, but when you drive many miles, its a necessity to have. Im worried that when my warranty is up, the cost to repair the head unit will be astronomical since they have to replace the entire piece instead of the bluetooth module. The dealer has been really great getting me into a loaner car, but it makes me nervous about the cost of the repairs when my warranty finally gives out. Has anyone else had problems with the bluetooth in the Outback?

Instead of offering advice and listening, she again reiterated, so you want information on a different car than your request? It is a great all around vehicle. It is unique, all wheel drive, excellent gas mileage, very comfortable, really fun to drive, handles well, very durable and dependable. Also, it is only a four cylinder but had a lot of get up and go. Love the all wheel drive and the excellent gas mileage as well. However, it is on the small side and is not as easy as some cars to get in and out of. Sometimes the maintenance can be costly and timing belt change every 80,000 miles is a must as well.

My 2012 Outback just got a new transmission after 75,000 miles. Im very dissatisfied. When I shift into park its rough, makes like a clunk sound. Makes me wonder how long this one will last!? Ill never buy another Subaru. Makes me wonder if it was done right? Of course they say its fixed and better!! What a joke! I think a bunch of us should get together and place a class action lawsuit.

I was looking for an SUV that had all wheel drive or 4-wheel drive options. This one fits both of those requirements. It is reliable, peppy, looks nice, easy to travel in (and mostly comfortable), and large enough to haul things. It is easy to install roof racks for sports items like kayaks and paddle boards. It easily goes from highways to off-roading. It also has more than enough features like heated seats and heated mirrors. I love the vehicle and the versatility that it provides. However, I dislike that theres a known oil issue with the engine.

Engine Failure on 2014 Subaru WRX w/ 14k miles - To preface, I bought my WRX brand-new, less than 12 months back (Nov 13) with only 7 miles. Since purchasing, I properly broke in the engine, have had it regularly serviced, & have not made any modifications to the car whatsoever. Over one month ago, I was driving along on the freeway (cruise controlled in the fast lane @ 75 mph) and the engine completely ceased on me w/ no notice or unusual sounds. After taking it in to the closest dealership, I found that the small block would need to be replaced & that the reqd engines are back order for OVER ONE MONTH. 5 and a half weeks later, Ive yet to receive my car back after numerous broken promises & have found further issues with my car, including unexpected damages to the pistons/rods & a potential need to replace my clutch (which would not be covered under my standard, or additionally purchased extended warranty). With all of the issues that Im having - Im starting to believe that maybe Im not the only one... Anyone else having similar problems? What should I do from here? HELP.

I bought an Outback 2017 model on July 2016 and decided to spend more for the convenience of having the ability to set interior temperature of the car before I go in by having the remote start option. The car manual stated that if you set the A/C or heater setting the way you like it before turning the engine off, you should be able to have the same setting when you turn the engine on using the remote start. My car did not do that. I brought the car to the Subaru of Glendale, California on January 20, 2017 and the service advisor told me that it only works for the 2016 and not the 2017 model. When I told him that it did not make sense that a newer model would be less capable than an older one and that the feature is clearly stated in the 2017 manual, he promised to call me on Monday or Tuesday of the next week because that day was a Saturday and he cant get a response from Subaru of America. So I waited and no call came. Today (Wednesday 1/25/17), I gave them a call and was told that the advisor was busy and that he will give me a call. After a while I called again and was told the advisor was off-duty! I called the service supervisor and she said she would connect me with another advisor to help me. I was put in hold and after a few minutes, the line was cut!!! I called again and again, I was promised that somebody would call me back and as I am writing this, no calls! They were so good when I was buying the car, and you think that I was planning to buy the Impreza for the wife next month! Hell no! This will be my first and last Subaru!!!

We purchased a new Subaru Outback in January, 2015. Since we have two other vehicles with excellent GPS systems, we were anxious to order the GPS package. From day one, the GPS system was difficult to use and had serious problems using voice recognition. We have taken it into the dealership numerous times and the problem was not rectified. Today, the auto was returned to us after being in the dealership for a week. The service manager admitted that the system is flawed. He actually took the car home a couple of times and experienced the problems. The service manager contacted the factory representatives and they admitted the problems with the system could not be repaired. We are stuck with a new car with a sub-standard GPS system.

I genuinely like the idea of warranties but have always found they cover next to nothing. As a woman with little mechanical background, warranties offer the false promise of safety and help where none is likely to be found.

Just wanted to give feedback on my new purchase: Gateway Subaru Delaware. Pros: overall satisfied with my purchase, this was our 3rd Outback (2008, 2011 now 2015). Changes promoted purchasing upgraded Outback. 2015 purchased with every option available. Eyesight option just great! Cons: GPS not as accurate as my Garmin portable. Had I known the lack of function & accuracy I would left it out from my purchase.

We have taken our 2017 Subaru in 5 times to fix this problem: while driving the check engine and other warning lights come on and safety features like lane change turn off. We are losing faith in Subaru. This didnt happen with the car right away. Weve been told it was related to fuel issues, computer issues, something different each time. I dont think they know what is causing the problem.

My car is a Subaru Impreza, and I do not recommend it to anyone. Ive only had this car two months but already there is paint damage from rocks. Right! Ive owned several cars and never had paint damage from driving. The dealer promises 30 miles per gallon, yet its costing me so much more than my last car that had 200,000 miles vs 4,000 on 2-month-old Impreza, getting only 17 mpg. Dont buy this car!

The Subaru Impreza has been fairly reliable. I appreciate how great it handles in the snow and rain and other extreme weather conditions because it makes me feel safe. I chose this car because it was affordable in price and great qualities for its price. However, I wish it were easier and cheaper to maintain. The maintenance required to keep up the car has been very pricey and annoying. I also wish I had a higher more upgraded model that has nicer interior parts like leather seats.

Sabotage. That’s what Subaru and all the other auto makers have done to create the interference engine failure. And who pays? Mostly 2nd and 3rd owners. Poor people pay. It is pure SABOTAGE. We bought our first 2002 Subaru. A nightmare. Timing belt went out within a year at 140kmiles. Total cost.... $2900. Plus cv axels and clutch $600. Now the under carriage frame is rusted to the point of unsafe. Go to H all capitalist pig auto makers who purposed failure at our expense.

I contacted Subaru of American about the dealer over filling my 2015 Outback by 1 quart of oil and complained about over 1 quart of oil was consumed. I have 11,400 miles on the car and this was at the end of the second oil change coming up. This was their response. Subarus standard for oil consumption is 1/3 qt every 1,200 miles which would be 1qt for every 3,600 miles. I can assure you that if the dealership determines that your vehicle is outside these specifications the necessary repairs will be performed. So they are saying it is normal to burn up to 2 quarts of oil every 6000 miles?? There is a problem and they do not want to recognize it.

Paint defects on new 2018 Forester. Took to service dealer, told the paint chips were caused by rocks hitting car. How do rocks hitting a car at different times create the same consistent size chip on ALL paint chips? Plus how come the passenger side shows no paint defects while the driver side is constantly cropping up new rock hits? The hood is showing paint chips is getting ready to lift again, perfect little tiny circles, no dents, just paint gone to the bare metal. I had a 2006 Nissan, NEVER ever saw problems with the paint. When heavy debris hit my Nissan, it dented the car but left the paint intact, had my Nissan for ten years and never ever saw paint chips exposed to the metal.

Subaru Forester 2015 got broken windshield after 1 1/2 years. I went to a glass dealer who contacted Safeco Insurance who approved replacement. Then 1 year later, the EyeSight started giving trouble. Eventually it quit working altogether. The Subaru repair place said the problem was an aftermarket windshield I had purchased and they would not fix the EyeSight until I replaced the windshield with a Subaru brand windshield which cost about $1000. The Subaru man said the glass and insurance companies all know about this. But the glass companies say they have no problem with aftermarket glass and Safeco says they take no responsibility unless I use one of their approved glass companies. So now I have a Subaru with no cruise control with all of the companies telling me that the EyeSight problem is my fault because I didnt know to get an official Subaru windshield by an approved Safeco installer and they wont fix the EyeSight until I make everything right again at my trouble and expense. I dont believe the windshield has anything to do with the EyeSight failure.

We have a 2011 Subaru WRX STI, with roughly 67,000 miles. We experienced a timing belt failure on the freeway, in heavy traffic, and we were barely able to get the car off the road before it died. We had the car towed to a dealer, who wanted $9,000 to replace the engine. We decided to have the engine rebuilt by an independent Subaru shop for $4,900 instead. The recommended mileage for a timing belt change is 105,000. The dealer indicated that this is extremely rare and they recommended that we contact Subaru of America. I was on hold for almost 30 minutes before I gave up. Now I understand why Subaru has such crappy power train warranties...

2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca - On February 16, 2013, I was on the highway when suddenly the large hood smashed into my windshield - shattering it and sending tiny glass shards all over me. I was blinded by all sides because the impact of the hood slamming into my windshield sent the rear view mirror flying to the floor. I was able to get myself over to the shoulder and when I got out to see what happened, I noticed the entire safety latch mechanism that is supposed to hold the hood down was detached and was dangling from the hood. Obviously, this is a Subaru manufacturing default. I called Subaru of America in NJ and was basically told by customer service and by an executive VP (since I escalated my complaint) that I was out of luck. I begged them to send out one of their reps to confirm this is the issue, but they refused. They know they are at fault, but if they send someone out, they would lose money since they would have to do a recall. And there never was a recall with an issue this serious. I also found 3 other reports online of this exact same issue on my year, model and make. They just dont care about their consumers. They were dismissive and cold. I am beside myself that they wont do these repairs. Did I have to die or get injured in order for them to take responsibility? Now I have to pay almost $4,000 for these damages and it wasnt even my fault. They also told me, You cant prove this is our responsibility. Wow. I will never buy another Subaru again. I will get this one fixed properly because I know I would not be able to live with myself if this happened to someone who bought my car and it was my fault.
