This GM consumer is appalled that GM has chosen not to issue a recall, knowing the automatic CVT transmission in the Saturn Vue 4 cylinder vehicles are known by GM to totally fail while in operation. My Saturn Vue has 130,000 km on it and is sitting in my backyard unusable from transmission failure. GM has announced NO MORE CRAPPY CARS. Well what about our lives, and the safety of our families and love ones? GM received a lot of BAILOUT money literally from taxpayers, and this is how they are treating those people who put their lives in the hands of someone who obviously holds profit and shareholders interests above all else.

I have a 2006 Saturn ION with only 60K miles and it has been in the shop for manufacturer defects 3 times already. I paid 200 for the ignition lock in May since the key will get stuck and I could not turn car off. I am a single parent with kids and it was scary when your car is stuck. I also paid $300 for a new camshaft actuator and selenoid. Now in December another valve malfunctioned and I called customer service and they gave me the run-around. I dealt with a district specialist named Vince and one named Drew and they both laughed at me and told me I am out of warranty since it’s past the 5 year mark and there is nothing they can do even though the dealer told them on the phone that it’s a manufacturer defect. I was told by Drew from Saturn, “Sorry, these things happen…” They had promised to give me at least a 10% discount and the dealership told me that they had no documentation. They never returned my calls. I have paid over $1000 out of my pocket for manufacturer defects and this car only has 60k. It keeps failing—valve, keys, fuel pump. Help.

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion. This is the second time that the ignition has locked. I got the car in 2007 and in 2009, it locked. It was still under warranty so I took it in and had to pay $50 for them to look at it. They replaced the ignition and the cylinder. It is now 2011 and I am having the same problem. I just got it replaced last week for $175. My car is no longer under warranty so I had to pay out of pocket, not to mention that I no longer have a job and I am still making payments. After getting it fixed last week, it started getting stuck again today. I will be filing a complaint and will be calling Saturn tomorrow. I hate this car now and I will never get a Saturn or GM ever again!

Small and compact with only so many people could get in. But it carries food in a very tight space to where the groceries will not spill or fall over. Good the features, the graphics are outstanding and its a very reliable vehicle and supportive for my needs as well. But to add some of the fluid, you actually physically have to lift up the car. Also, the repairs on the vehicle can get expensive if youre not sure where to get them from.

My 2007 Outlook has 70,000 miles on it. I am four months past the initial warranty and my transmission suddenly died. I called our dealer where we purchased it from and was told I was past my warranty so too bad. After reading all the transmission problems online by other Saturn owners, I cant believe that a recall was not taken for the transmissions. Let the consumers worry about it GM, what a joke! You are putting peoples lives at risk and yet you dont want to take ownership of your problem. So now I am supposed to come up with several thousand dollars for a used transmission because GM will not do the right thing. This will be the last GM car Ill ever purchase. Shame on GM!

I have had my 2007 Saturn Ion for 1.5 years. It only have 30K miles on it. I have had to replace the ignition key holder thing because the key got stuck in the ignition and the car couldnt turn off. Now, Im starting to have power steering issues. The power steering was shut off on two separate occasions while driving. The ignition system put me back $750. Luckily both times I wasnt on the open road when the power steering shut off (residential area the 1st time, parking lot the second time), so I was able to maneuver to a stop. Turning the car off and back on made the steering come back...but for how long? I doubt Ill be lucky everytime. Guess I better keep lifting weights until I can get this fixed.

I bought my VUE new in 2003. Loved this car. Just right for me. All of a sudden it started stalling out while driving down the street. All the dash lights came on, the steering and brakes were gone. All of this in rush hour traffic in Denver. Took it in...paid out just over $900 to try to find out what it was, didnt help. Picked it up on Friday, stalled in traffic on Saturday. Did some research found out this was a problem with the 2002-2004 Saturn VUE and Ion. During those years the Saturn VUE was on a car chassis or so Im told - and beginning 2005 on a truck base. I went to the GM dealer after this last brush with death and was told I probably needed a new transmission.....$3,800. Found out about the GM class action suits in California and other places regarding the Saturn VUE. I had the car towed....not driving it. Certainly not trading it in for someone else to be hurt. Looking for a good used car now.

I have called a Chevy dealer and they are not covering this under warranty or recall at this time. This will be a $300 repair and has been happening to thousands of people. My 2009 Saturn Vue had been progressively difficult to steer and also made a grinding sound when turning to the right. This went on for several months. It was taken to the dealership for this, but no repairs were made b/c the tech did not see/hear the issue. A few months later, the Vue lost control and went into a skid. Diagnostics at the dealer showed that there was a steering gear leaking fluid and that the steering pump needed replacement. Also, the steering sensor was not programmed correctly. This sounds very much like the recall on 2008-2009 Saturn Vues, however mine is not in that batch. Please, if anyone else is experiencing this sort of issue with your 2009 Vue, please file a complaint on www.safercar.gov. Something needs to be done about this defect! Your voice/experience will make a difference in the safety of other drivers.

They have checked the fuses, tried the shifting lever, but to no help in getting it out.I have a child that I take to school and I am afraid I wont be able to get her there on time, also to get her home. Why doesnt anyone fix this? I am on low income as I have not been able to work and have no money to stick into this car. I purchased 1995 Saturn with 63,000 miles in 2010. The car reached 75,000 miles on Dec 2011. The cylinder head cracked and needs to replaced for approximate cost of $2000.00. Research shows cars from 1992-1999 had a cylinder head defect in the design and Saturn extended the warranty to 100,000 miles but due to the age of the car, GM will not help out with repair cost. Read from other customers, no one got help. GM does not acknowledge the warranty. I just want consumers to know Saturn cars may look good, have low mileage but after 50,000 miles, trouble awaits around the corner.

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion 2 Quad Coupe. Ive been having problems on and off for years with the ignition. It was sometimes difficult to start, but with a little jiggling of the key and the steering wheel, I always managed to start it. I wish that was the only problem. Yesterday, I drove my car to the supermarket and couldnt turn the car off. I was able to turn the engine off, but the key would not release and the keys position was stuck in the ACC position. My local mechanic told me that I needed to find a GM dealer, so I took it to the closest Buick/GMC dealer in my county. I was told that I needed a new ignition and am dreading to find out the cost tomorrow. I just found out today that there were hundreds of other Saturn owners who experienced the same problem. I wish GM would recall this part.

2004 Saturn Ion 2 - The timing chain on my vehicle broke while I was driving to work and the car was disabled. The estimated repair is $6,000, which is more than the book value of the car. The car only had 100,000 miles on it. The repairman cant even find a rebuilt engine because the Saturn engines have all had the same problem. I bought the car new and did all of the recommended maintenance on it. I had planned on driving it for a few more years. I was told that the timing chain would last the life of the car and changing it was not necessary. This was told to me by the Saturn dealer, which of course is now out of business.

Took it in for inspection. They reset the engine light. Drove it until it came on. Went back within 50 miles of driving. The code was undetermined by the dealer/manufacturer. Dont know how Ill ever sell it with an engine light on. It can be inspected if the shop tries to repair it and you spend up to $200. But, I have never had a car that the engine light ever came on period. And, Ive had quite a few. Whats up with that.

My 2006 Saturn Ion would not turn off and the key was locked in the ignition. I am a nursing student and I missed a very important meeting due to this issue. I drove to a Firestone and he said that he has fixed at least 50 Saturn Ions with this same issue this year. He also said due to Saturn parts being in an unorganized warehouse, it would take at least five to 10 business days until he would be able to receive the part. So I could be out of a car for possibly two weeks. And it will cost around $600 for repair and labor. I will also have to pay for a rental during this time! Saturn and General Motors need to be held accountable if so many consumers are having the same issue! The key of my 2007 Saturn got locked in the on position and couldnt turn off. Vue 2.2 5MT 2004 - I bought this car after careful consideration. I needed an SUV, 5MT (I love manual) and a gas saver. Saturn Vue was one of very few vehicles on the US market which satisfied my requirements. However, before buying it, do your research (as I did)! The 2.2 engine is good on gas and has chain instead of belt (so no worries about changing it), but stay away from 2.2 CVT vehicles!!! This is the most unreliable transmission I ever heard of. I have never read a single review about CVT where the transmission wasnt changed (which costs about $5000). 5MT Saturns only come with FWD, no AWD versions, but I have never experienced any problems getting stuck even during this horrible winter. And in terms of reliability, 5MT cannot even be compared to CVT, its very difficult to kill it, only if you dont know how to drive a manual at all and shift with grinding all the time - while a CVT can die every moment, without warning. However, with 5MT, dont forget that you should change both your transmission fluid (DEXRON III, dont use VI!!! Or, I use Pennzoil Syncromesh) and brake fluid in the clutch mechanism in time. Some people think these dont have to be changed, and its completely wrong. If your fluid is black, youre certainly killing your clutch or transmission. If youre a DIY person, its very easy to do both. However, there are several serious drawbacks. First, at RPMs above 3000, the engine is noisy. And at the same time, the transmission is built very strangely, so that at 40 mph you can already put it in 5th. As a result, at highway speeds (~70-75 mph) your RPMs are between 3200 and 4000 approximately. So engine noise inside the cab is guaranteed. Its not too loud, but its audible, the only thing that makes it tolerable is the whistling of air (I couldnt understand where its coming from) so that the engine noise doesnt seem so loud. I dont know why Saturn made such a transmission. I was riding with my friend in his Honda, its automatic, but still, at 60 mph his RPMs were only about 2000, while Saturn has at least 2500 on the tachometer even in 5th gear. Why make such a transmission? Of course its noisy when the engine runs constantly between 3300-4000 RPM on a highway! And at the same time, why did they install this dashboard which proudly says that the maximum speed is 130 mph? This transmission cant go even close to that, it will reach maximum RPMs well before. And by the way, if the engine didnt work at such high RPMs, it would have even better highway gas mileage. This is Saturn...I wont say anything about cheap plastic materials in the cab, I dont care about this, and its not a luxury car. If you need extreme comfort and expensive cab interior, buy something like a Cadillac and pay for servicing its numerous electronic devices. For me, the advantage of this car is its simplicity, I can fix or change most of the stuff myself. Also, there are stupid things which are just gross mistakes of the designers. Take the clutch: the bleeder valve is metal, but the tube which holds it is plastic, so if you want to change your old black fluid and then bleed the system, be very careful, because the valve may be rusty and stuck, and you can easily break the plactic tube and disable your car until it is replaced (youll have to buy a new master brake cylinder as this tube is not sold separately). Why couldnt they make this tube metal instead of plastic, knowing that there may be some effort needed to turn the valve??? Probably because its cheaper...And finally, Id like to mention the headlights. In this car they are the most horrible Ive ever seen. They sit in deep wells so the light beam is very narrow and only lights up a small piece of the road, not speaking about street signs - you can forget about it. At the same time, if you try to install a powerful bulb, youll see the other problem - the idiot designers didnt make a glare screen in front of the bulb, instead, theres a strange-looking and completely useless tube! I have specially looked at lots of other vehicles, they all have either projectors or a glare cap! But Saturn decided that Vue drivers dont need them! So if you install a powerful bulb, you have to make sure its the type with end painted, otherwise oncoming drivers are looking directly at your bulb, not covered by anything! At the same time, this light is just wasted, instead of being reflected by the glare cap and thrown onto the main reflector to magnify the beam. Bravo, Saturn! A very wise decision! I also have to mention that the high beams are poor as well, and they are located separately from low beams (different bulbs) but adjusted together. Which is horrible because normal car manufacturers make high beam HIGH - so that its ABOVE low beam cutoff. No such luck with the Vue - the high beams are practically on the same level as low beams, and if you try to raise them so they can do their work, low beams are raised too and start blinding oncoming traffic! But if you adjust low beams so that they dont blind, your so-called high beams point to the ground and are practically useless! Ive never seen more stupid headlights. And worst of all, there are NO aftermarket modified (e.g. projector) headlights for this car, theyre all the same stupid type! But overall, the cars not bad and I didnt have too many issues with it. Just dont buy CVT versions. And check the clutch before buying it, the replacement is expensive. If you dont know what to look for, bring a friend who knows a lot about manual cars.

I own a 2005 Saturn Ion. I love this car but the ignition lock issue is a big concern. I have been battling this ignition lock for years. I took it twice to the Saturn dealer in 2007. They first said it was the ignition cylinder and then they said it was the ignition switch. It was neither. Fortunately, my warranty covered the service. There is a sensor in the shifter that indicates that the car is in park. Through my trials and errors, if you are parked on a flat angle, inclined or declined, the shifter is not allowed to engage fully into the park position and your key will remain locked up. A huge pain and I have sent my complaint to the FTC but have not heard anything. Dont bother taking it in anymore. Start the vehicle, shift it out of gear and put it back in park. Shut off the vehicle or move the car to a different parking spot (flat, inclined or declined). To know if its engaged or not, you will hear a clicking sound coming from the steering column once you have pressed the brake and put it into park. What a pain and a serious hazard!

I ransomed my 2005 Saturn Ion this morning from the local Chevy dealers service department. For the second time in less than 18 months, I had to have the ignition lock cylinder, etc. replaced. The problem was identical to others previously listed on this site. The key was stuck in the on position with the car running. I had to disconnect the battery and stall (manual transmission) the engine. In each occurrence, the repair cost well in excess of four hundred dollars. Add the rental car, and the cost approaches a thousand dollars for the two repairs. On a positive note, I see that the dealer used the replacement lock cylinder 20869121 that Frank of Toronto, ON recommended. Although I dont have access to the actual technical service bulletins, I found one listed for Saturn Ion entitled 05-08-49-006 FEB 05 Ignition Switch - Key Hard to Insert/Wont Rotate and another 05-02-35-007A OCT 06 Ignition - Inadvertent Turning of Ignition Lock Cylinder. The cashier this morning said that the problem is related to too much weight on the key ring. I dont think the three keys on my ring qualify. Rather, I think it is the quality of the genuine GM parts.

I bought my 2006 Saturn Ion with only 30,000 or so miles around this time last year. This past winter, it was constantly not turning on. It would take me about 50+ tries in order for it to start. I took it to several trusted mechanics who couldnt find any problem at all. Now as I am waiting for a potential employer to call me back about a job, I have no vehicle. My transmission just stopped working! The gears change perfectly fine but drive, neutral, and first and second just dont do anything at all. But reverse works perfectly well.

My 2004 Ion has major issues with the ignition system, even a junk yard part costs 250-300 dollars, and I have to put it in. This is a known manufacturers problem that has not been recalled by GM. I am never going to buy another GM product and I will spend my hard-earned money on a Ford vehicle. I would like to sue GM Corporation for not doing the right thing and repairing/fixing this known manufacturers problem. I, however, have limited funds to do so. I am a firm believer in what goes around, comes around.

Ive had to replace my ignition 4 times in the past 4 years. The key gets stuck and I either cant turn the car off or I cant turn it on. The mechanic who replaced it the last time indicated that the ignition was a really bad part and that he was certain it would fail again. When I took it to the dealership after the recall, the foreman indicated that my problem was not the same problem indicated in the recall. He said, the recall problem is a safety issue and mine was not. I am NOT comfortable driving around in this car knowing what has happened to some.

Like everyone else, the ignition lock failed on my 2007 Saturn Ion. Unlike everyone else, I was able to provide a reasonable, to me, solution for free. Simply remove the cover under the steering column. Disconnect the green wiring harness and the car shuts off. When you want to drive again, just plug it back in and turn the key. My car has been running this way for over a year. Good luck.

Three months ago, I purchased a used 1995 Saturn sl2 with a manual transmission. The person I bought it from says that she replaced the transmission once already. It has 170,000 miles on it. The past few week, I have heard a light knocking from the transmission. The other day, while going down the highway, the transmission starts slipping badly. I exit and get to a light and the transmission locked up. I couldnt move my car at all, in neutral or any gear. I was less than 1/5 away from my apartment and I had to have it towed home. It cost me $85.00 for less than a 1/5 of a mile because the transmission went out again; twice in 170,000 miles.

I financed a used car (2009 Saturn Vue) on the evening of 2/22/13. On 2/23/13 early afternoon, as I was driving with family members, the car caught on fire. A young lady pulled up next to me and told me that I had fire falling from underneath my car. We immediately pulled over, jumped out, and called 911. The firemen came, put the fire out and did an investigation for their report. They said it looked electrical, but couldnt say for sure. I had the car towed back to the dealer. They were closed on that Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to talk to someone. They do not want to take accountability. They stated that they had to treat this as a new car sale and I had to file an insurance claim. I told them that I hadnt even had the car 24 hours, that I want my downpayment back and the contract cancelled so that I can go and get another car elsewhere. An inspector went out (from my insurance company) and also said it looked electrical, but he could not say that that was the definite cause of the fire. The dealership wants me to go through with the claim. They offered to pay my insurance deductible, but thats it. The sales manager went on and on about how the Saturn Vue was the best used car that they had on the lot and how superior their service inspections are, etc. That is all the more reason for me to be concerned. Them offering to pay a $500 deductible does nothing for my insurance going up, my inability to be able to trade that car in down the line since it had a fire. And since the root cause of the problem could not be found, there is nothing to keep it from happening again. I want my down payment ($1500) back and I want to go elsewhere and get another vehicle as soon as possible. I am currently without a car. I spoke with the salesperson and the sales manager. I was told that the general manager would call me and he did not, nor did the owner. I should not be held accountable for their car catching on fire in less than 24 hours. I drove home from the dealership Friday night, to my cousins funeral on Saturday morning and the car caught on fire while I was driving in the funeral procession early Saturday afternoon.

My 2005 Saturn Vue auto transmission started slipping and banging after about 3 years. I was in fear of a major repair bill. I received a letter in the mail from GM stating that the 2005 Vue transmission was being recalled due to faulty assembly. I was instructed to take the car to the Saturn dealer. If I had already repaired my transmission, I was supposed to submit receipts for reimbursement of repair cost up to $3000. I took it to the dealer and they found the transmission was faulty and was covered under the recall. The dealer installed a new transmission at no cost to me. The limitation was the car had to be 5 years old or less and/or certain amount of mileage. Check the Chevrolet dealer who should be able to research this for you. Hope it helps.

On January 4, 2012, I tried to start my car and it would not start. On the first incident, I had it towed to Firestone who has done all the work on my Saturn 2005 Ion 3 since the warranty expired. The steering wheel column had to be removed to get the key out of the ignition and the battery was replaced. On the second incident, I had it towed again to Firestone. The mechanic was able to start it. He began to research problems with Saturns and found the ignition problem. He advised me to take it to Saturn for an ignition replacement.

How did the mechanic not know that there was still a problem? So I went back into Fergusons GMC and informed the service desk. I am still battling this problem, and dont understand why this can not be addressed properly. Our key has been stuck in the ignition of our 2006 Saturn Ion for the last 4 days. Three days prior to that the dealer replaced a frozen air compressor and transmission line ($1400). About 45 minutes before the key got stuck with the engine running, the coolant light came on even though wed had an oil change two weeks prior. We were instructed to disconnect the battery, but that did not stop the engine from running. A neighbor came over and helped disconnect a fuse. I am leery about sinking more money in this vehicle. We have had the faulty power steering replaced and a crack in the nipple inside the gas tank. I believe these repairs are above and beyond usual repair and maintenance for a vehicle and feel theyre unjust.I know the VIN number on my car was the same as those recalled a few years ago, but because my vehicle was not initially sold in what the NTSB deemed a hot state, it was not eligible. Without doubt, the Mid-East now experiences the same extreme weather conditions as did the hot states and I am advocating that all Saturns built between 2005-2007 be recalled. Anyone else joining me?

I got out so fast. Embarrassed I called Saturn to complain and was told that its rare but happens. Dont worry because it probably was made at the same facility but rare chance to meet up again. I didnt think too hard on it and drove off. Saturn should be sued for the problems their cars have created for us. I now have a car that doesnt run and when called in to complain was told to contact BBB and leave complaint in which I did. In June 2011, my 2007 Saturn Ion would not turn off. I took it into Firestone and it was the ignition lock cylinder. It was broken. Firestone replaced it for $222. I wrote GM and told them about this problem. I received a return call from them stating that since there was not a recall on this problem, there was nothing they could do. In December 2011, same issue, car would not turn off. Firestone replaced ignition lock cylinder again. I had to pay $7 for the new key. Cylinder lock under warranty. Today, 1/18/2012, same problem, car would not turn off. I took it back to Firestone and they are at a loss for words. They told me they do not know what could be wrong. They said maybe the first two cylinder locks had manufacturing problems but they cant believe it would happen a third time. I went online and there are many complaints about Saturn ignition locks. Our Saturn Vue 2006 needs a secondary axle bearing, GM part No. 24460143. Should be simple, right? No! After searching locally and online we called GMs Detroit Headquarters in July, only to be told that they have stopped making this bearing. Their policy is supposedly to continue producing parts at least till the vehicle is 10 years old. The young man we spoke with in July promised to open a case to check into this and get back to us shortly. We waited for 2 MONTHS, with no response. Finally we called back and after about 6 hours of phone calls we were but through to Marie at GM Corporate Headquarters. Explained the problem all over again, waited another week while she looked into the situation, only to be told, sorry about your luck, we dont make that bearing anymore, and that since the problem had been diagnosed by someone other than a GM dealership, they had no responsibility to produce the part. Deduction: General Motors does not stand behind its products, will only consider General Motors Dealership mechanics as qualified to diagnose problems on their vehicles!!!

Integrity of repair quote and overall dissatisfaction: Im writing you (Mr. James) this morning to voice my frustration and overall disappointment with my service experience at your dealership. My family relocated to the area in spring of 2011 from Washington State and is the owner of a 2007 Saturn Outlook, which up until this past year, has been a reliable GM product. My wife went online to research which dealership in the area would be convenient to our residence in Anaheim Hills and also provide a level of service commensurate with the GM brand. She settled on Simpson of Buena Park. Our first encounter with your service department involved dealings with James, a service adviser at your location. We brought our vehicle in with just over 73k miles for an oil change, several leaks which we noticed, and air conditioning service. During the inspection, several serious powertrain defects were identified up to and including seals which needed to be replaced, sealant and coolant leaks timing chain and gasket repairs, drive shaft repairs, service engine light illumination which resulted in cam shaft end play shims replacement, water pump replacement, etc. While a majority of these items were under warranty, there was still $373 out-of-pocket expense. We left confident that any long-term serious issue was averted due to a very extensive inspection. In June of this year, we took the same vehicle back in to your dealership for service as another leak was noticed as well as a power steering noise. After inspection and an additional $615, we picked the car up with presumably everything in working order. August 9 of this year, less than 2 months after bringing the car in, the engine light came on and there was hesitation upon acceleration. Mr. Jose was the service adviser who assisted. That afternoon when I called to check on the status of the vehicle, I was informed that the vehicle needed a new engine! Luckily, we purchased an extended warranty when we purchased the vehicle off a lease in 2010.My specific frustrations are: 1) How could such a major defect not be noticed and identified by your service department just 2 months prior? 2) How often are GM vehicles with just 87k miles required to replace an engine? 3) My dealings with the first 2 service advisers (Mr. James and Mr. Jose), while expensive, were pleasant. My current dealing with Mr. Ted has been just the opposite. The fact that he stepped in while Mr. Jose has been away on holiday has proven to be stressful and impossible to get any information regarding the update and status of the vehicle. Hes now informing me that even with the extended warranty and a $100 deductible, Im still looking at between $500 and $600 out-of-pocket expense!Mr. James, to say that our trust in GM workmanship and quality has been diminished would be a gross understatement. The fact that Im being told that we have to pay even more money to repair what appears to be a GM defective product is insulting. I question the integrity of Mr. Teds actions, as the warranty company would not authorize a new motor at the suggestion/advice of Mr. Ted and hes passing some of those costs on to us. I would appreciate your review of this and any assistance you can offer. At this point, Im thoroughly disappointed not only in the decision to purchase a GM product in the first place but also on the decision on where it should be serviced. I will also be contacting GM World headquarterss Consumer Affairs department in Detroit. Thank you for your time.

I am fed up! I bought a 2000 Saturn SL2 just a few months ago; it had 139,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. I bought it from a used car dealership which I have dealt with in the past and I have always gotten good cars from them. They check their vehicles out thoroughly before they are put on the lot for sale. Three months after purchase (and, I might add, being treated as though it were made of gold), the transmission started giving me problems with the gears not wanting to engage when shifted. I contacted the dealership, who referred me to their transmission shop. They diagnosed the problem as a defective valve body and told me that this is a common problem with Saturns. Since they replaced the said valve body, the car shifts worse than ever! It slams into reverse, it slams into second and third gear, and now I am afraid to drive it (I might also add that this car is necessary for my job). I have contacted the shop and they have agreed to look at the car again. But reading all these other complaints against Saturn, I hold very little hope that the problem can be fixed or that the dealership will continue to put out money to fix a car that, by all accounts, will just continue to give me problems. Saturn stinks, and the company should be heartily ashamed of themselves! If this transmission cant be fixed and the dealer decides not to stick any more of their money into it, I will lose my job because I cant get to work; this is the only vehicle I have. I cant afford to have it fixed on my own and I still owe about $4500 on the car.

Transmission suddenly goes bad when shifting from 2 to 3. It is a known problem in Saturn transmissions and I was able to find it on an internet forum. I drive my car a lot so I am 30,000 miles over the warranty for a vehicle not yet 5 years old. The problem is so common the repair shop knew exactly what it was before even seeing my car. Since this 3-5 reverse plate is a known issue, why do consumers have to wait and pay when the transmission is known to have an issue?! It is also a safety issue when you have no idea when its suddenly going to break!

I purchased a 2002 Saturn SL2 in 2006 from an individual who kept it as a summer car. It only had 26,000 miles on it. I drove the car and loved it. In 2011, the transmission suddenly started giving problems when the car had about 77,000 miles on it. I took it to a transmission shop and they put in a rebuilt transmission. It cost me $1,500.00. Now at 114,000 miles, that transmission is doing the same thing - clunking into gear, slipping out of gear, hesitating and then suddenly clunking into gear. I have decided to get a different car even though I love my Saturn.

I parked a vehicle. I went to turn it off and the key would not turn back to off position, the car would not stop running. I finished to drive home. I tried access to the switch inside the column as pointed out in the drivers manual. Also, I tried turning the wheel back and forth, shifting, etc. as pointed out in the manual. The key would not come out. I disconnected the battery and pulled the fuse on injectors to get it to stop. I took it to the dealer the next morning, after leaving it parked outside, unlocked with keys inside the car and started it by reconnecting the battery and inserting the fuse. The cylinder kit and housing kit were replaced at the dealership and one set of keys were replaced. I was told that both keys would work. I tested them in the dealer lot, neither set worked well in the trunk or the doors, but they both started and stopped the car. The bill came to $701.11. I left the dealership to get lunch, half a mile away, went through drive-thru and then to the office for another half mile away. I parked the car to go inside. The key turned the vehicle off, but would not come out of the ignition. I drove back to the dealership and they rechecked it, apparently sprayed some graphite into the ignition, tested it several times and at this point, works. But I have no confidence in this not happening again. Research on the internet shows hundreds of others that have experienced this problem and no recall to this point. Not even an investigation.

For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problem
For the third time/third year in a row, I am having ignition switch problems with my 2006 Saturn Ion. I purchased my vehicle brand-new in 2006. I loved the car. But in 2010, my vehicle would not shut off. I took the vehicle to a crappy GM dealer that took 3 months to fix the problem. I paid $300 to get the ignition chamber switched out. In 2011, I had another problem. I couldnt take the key out of the ignition. Luckily, since it was within one year, they fixed the problem under parts warranty. Now, 4/11/2012, I couldnt turn my vehicle off again and was late to work trying to remove the key. I had to leave the car running, and my husband drove to my job, got in the car, drove it home, and had to remove wiring to shut it off. I called Saturn Customer Care and have to take the vehicle into the nearest dealership. I have to pay for the diagnostic, and so on and so forth. I am upset. This is ridiculous. Once this problem is fixed, I am trading in my vehicle; someone else can deal with this problem. I want to know if I can sue. I will even settle for them just buying the car back from me, so I can buy a new car. I just cant deal with the headaches, time, and money anymore. Anyone with these issues, I suggest calling Saturn Customer Care at 1-800-553-6000. You shouldnt have to pay out of pocket.

I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook. My water pump went out 2 months ago. Then one day my car started jerking... too dangerous to drive. I took it to my auto mechanic. I thought they fixed it. They said it was the throttle... replaced ($558.00). Car still not fixed. Now that I am doing my research, I see the same problems you are all experiencing. I do not have money for any major repairs! GM needs to step up as this is an obvious recall! Very dangerous to drive so it’s parked! Shame on GM for putting their consumers’ lives at risk!

I cant understand why GM will not admit that there is a problem with ignition cylinder in Saturn cars. My mom has a 2003 Saturn Ion, that will not release the key. It is stuck in the ACC position. Sometimes, if you sit and wait 15 min., it will click and release. We had car to the dealer when it was under warranty but they could find nothing wrong. I realize that they receive anywhere from $500 up to repair this and they are in desperate need of money. No one in my family will ever have another GM product. Something should be done about this.

I had my ignition switch repaired on my Saturn Ion 2, 3 times already and continue to have problems with key getting stuck in the ignition. Spoke to Cruz Chevrolet today and he is telling me he thinks it is the automatic shifter causing the problem. Ive had numerous problems with my 2005 Saturn Ion since I purchased it barely used in 2008. First, it was an ominous Check Engine light which after spending $400 in unneeded repairs, turned out to be something with the master computer. After I had the ignition replaced, now I cant get the car to start. The dealership cant find anything wrong with it and the mechanic says that its the master computer needs to be replaced. On top of all that, all of the automatic windows died. Had to quit my job because of my health and Im so fed up with all this, I could just scream.

I purchased a 2001 Saturn L series new in 2001. After only 5 years and 75,000 miles, the transmission needed to be replaced. Maybe Im one of the lucky ones (as evidenced in this thread. ) One re-built transmission later, Im back in for yet another re-built transmission. I guess I should consider myself lucky. I got as much use out of the rebuilt, as I did the original.Third times a charm, right? What is it about these transmissions? I should have known better than to have purchased another Saturn, considering the fact there were problems with my first one in 1995 (after only a couple of months). What was I thinking, right? Ever think some of these issues has anything to do with the fact that Saturn is no longer around?

I purchased a new Saturn Ion for my daughter. It has always had issues - 2 or 3 ignition switches, 2 or 3 power steering motors, 2 or 3 fuel pumps, bad gas mileage, clunking front end. Too many parts replaced to count 3 or 4 parts stores in town. They know me by name and I dont even have to tell them the make of the car. This thing is a wreck. Only two good things I dont have to wash it. Its not worth the money to clean it up. And I can go to Wal-mart without worrying about somebody stealing it or running into it. Last car for me from GM and I remind my kids to not buy one either.

I had heard in the original Saturn series of bad engines, but I had acquired a 2005 which is a later series. I had a wait and see attitude about it, it reached 142,000 miles before the transmission slipped. The mechanics had told me that it would cost about $600 just to open it up and assess the problem...not including any repairs. At that point it would have cost nearly what the car was worth at that point. Before that there were few repair problems.

My key gets stuck in my Saturn Ion ignition switch. It turns as far back that the car turns off but that the radio is still on. This problem has caused my battery to die a few times but for the most part, it is just a pain to remember to go back for my key before bed. Sometimes it will come out within seconds; other times, it is several hours. As I read on this site and a few others, it is a big issue. I wish they would issue a recall. Just the other day, I received a letter about a recall on the power steering. Hopefully, they will have one for this too!

We purchased our used 2007 Saturn Outlook in May 2009. The vehicle had its first leak in March 2010. We took the vehicle back to our original dealer, and they stated the original TSB/Recall worth that was done, did not get done appropriately. They redid the work. My vehicle has leaked 8 more times, and the new dealership (original Saturn closed) cannot locate the leak. I have a case with GM, and I am getting nowhere. GM does not appear to be taking any responsibility for their faulty vehicle. There are numerous complaints about this same issue online (i.e. **). I have documented every conversation/appointment I have had regarding this issue. My headliner and carpet are both ruined from all the rain that has soaked in. When it gets warm outside, my vehicle smells terribly. Im concerned about the potential health effects this may have on my family, if there is mold/mildew growing in the vehicle. I am also concerned about the probability of mechanical things malfunctioning, due to the rain getting it wet. I am disgusted with GM, and the way they are handling all of the leak issues with the many Outlooks produced. There should have been a recall placed on all of them way back when. I am disgusted.

I took my vehicle to a local auto shop and got the ignition lock cylinder replaced, OEM part 20869121. It was coded to accept my original key (no switch out). Total cost was $178. Time: 30 minutes of labor can take up to an 1 hour. To turn off my car when the incident occurred, I pulled four of the main switch plugs, two 30s and two 40s. They can be found under the hood. A black lid covers this area marked with a round red cap. The switches are easy to pull out and put back in. They help you avoid wearing down the battery or having to deal with it at all. I hope this helps.

Over the last two months, I have had some problems when I would turn my car off and the key would not disengage after. I fooled with it and the key would disengage. Was driving to work on 6/13 13 in the morning; I was running along at 65 when I heard a slight click noise. At the same time, the engine and the gauges cut off. The radio was still working. I coasted off-road, turned the key again, and the car started right up. Never had that happen.Got to work and went out four hours later to start the car. It started right up, but I could not turn it off. I tried everything I knew. I took it to a local shop, and they replaced the broken parts in the steering column for the ignition key and the switch assembly. Total cost was $598.00. Does anyone know if there was a silent recall for that issue that they are not telling people? I would like to know.

Saturn Vue original trans failed at 121,500. Based on what I read, I was lucky to have had it last that long. As new GM failed to uphold the results of the lawsuit, that is to cover replacement for a defective product, I had to pay $5000 for parts and labor to replace. I was told warranty is 3-year/36k miles. I went ahead, thinking if I get three years that would be great and worth the money. Now, at 2 years and 34,000 miles, I have a failing trans and am being told that no, the warranty is only 12/12. I am screwed. Even my mechanic was told 3/36 by dealership where he bought it. Get it on paper, people. I cannot afford a new car or $5k to get another bad trans. I am stuck in PA.

Sigh...I am adding another complaint to this apparent common problem. I have a Saturn ION 2006. I have nothing but problems with it since the day I drove it off the lot. Unfortunately, I am not in right circumstances to trade it in on something else. I am a mom and a full time student, so I really need this car to last a little longer. Today, I parked my car while taking my daughter to the lake and the key got stuck in the on position. I own a manual, so once I got it home I popped the clutch to turn it off. Now, Im stuck with no car and very little in the budget to fix it. Has anyone found a solution to fixing this problem on their own? Or, by chance, has GM issued a recall?

It looks like I am one of many who own a 2003 Saturn Ion where the ignition lock cylinder locks up & cant remove key. It happens many times, twice this week. I went to the auto store & got a new cylinder. I tried to put in it, but now the key goes in & out easily but the whole cylinder will not turn at all, so the car cant be started! Im going to have to tear apart the steering column maybe. I dont want to have to buy another new part costing $84+ tax especially since the new parts probably are defective also. It does absolutely no good to buy the new part & it doesnt work when you install it. Since now the cylinder is completely stuck & doesnt move at all, I cant even use the car! I have to carpool my wife to her job etc, and cant afford to buy another car. Since Saturn & GM knows about all the Saturn owners having this same problem, there needs to be a major recall and a class action suit to repay all the owners for the expenses they incur because Saturn/GM stopped making new cars, and the local GM mechanics, etc. just throw up their hands and say sorry! This is a consumer nightmare.

My 2005 Saturn ignition switch will not release, leaving the key unable to be removed and unable to restart the car. This is a failure of the security system that is designed to delay the key release for 20 seconds. The timing is off. It may take minutes or never!Emergency release of key: Remove a small round plastic plug on the underside of the steering column housing, just right off the center. Using a finger, find a metal contact inside and above the plug, that when pressed to the left, will release the key for removal. This is done every time I leave the car, and obviously keeps me from loaning my car to anyone! This is an obvious part failure by Saturn, and needs to be addressed by GM. Do we have enough angry Saturn owners with malfunctioning ignition switches to initiate a class action?

Despite the obvious safety issue I was told I was on my own. The door(s) eventually will not close as the jam mechanism fails so the door is subject to swinging open while the vehicle is in use. Ive had this car now for about 9 mos. Its been a pretty good car until the last 2 weeks. The a/c was the 1st to go out (when I 1st got it). I had everything replaced, then about 2 mos. later, the a/c went out again. So, 2 weeks ago, the stereo stopped playing, it says to check the wiring. In the past week, all these new things started. I now smell gas fumes, when we hit the door locks, the headlights go out and back on. Last night, I put the car in reverse, and the lights went out and back on. Sometimes, when I put it in reverse, the gas gauge drops from 1/2 tank to empty. Other times, after refueling, I leave the pump with the empty gas light on. I make sure the gas cap is on tight before I leave the station. Two days now, the security light comes on, so today, I replaced the battery in the wireless remote, and stopped @ Autozone to have the cars battery checked & it is fine. A few months ago, I was having a problem with the car stalling out when I backed up, but after hearing about the ignition switch recall & GM, I tried something that works. I took the key off my keyring. There are no other keys on it, the added weight of a few other keys, was messing with the ignition switch. Im pretty sure my problem is with some loose wiring, I read that with the Saturn, the a/c condenser hose pops off, and read theres no hope for the gas smell. I just pray the car doesnt go up in flames. Oh, and have had a few problems with the tail lights too. And a few weeks ago, I couldnt get the trunk lock to catch after checking the problem with the brake/tall-light problem. I didnt know until today that Saturn is a GM product, cause I promise you had I known, I would never have bought it. Ford held their own, GM bailed out.

Oh, and did I forget to mention the recall notice that said we didnt qualify because we had too many miles on the car. What?
