Review: The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone plays follow the leader
[BACK]

Posted On: September 5, 2022
It took 15 years for the third-generation Toyota Tundra to arrive and throughout my time with it, one question kept recurring: “Is this the best they could do?”
With a new luxury Capstone trim, a powerful hybrid powertrain, an in-your-face design, and innovative features, the 2022 Toyota Tundra isn’t a bad truck.
It just feels like a massive missed opportunity. Toyota could’ve come out swinging with a segment-busting product like the A-BAT hybrid pickup concept from 2007, but it played follow the Ford F-150 leader instead. Nobody wins by following.
I spent a week picking up supplies at the local fleet supply store, towing boats, and hauling kids on a road trip to figure out where the 2022 Toyota Tundra fits in the truckosphere. The answer is murky, especially in the $75,000 Capstone trim.

Going hybrid
A hybrid Tundra was long overdue for the company that made its modern-day reputation on the back of a fuel-sipping Prius. But instead of punching a hole in the market and delivering a truck with incredible fuel efficiency, Toyota aimed for power in an attempt to best the competition. Numbers on paper aren’t the same as reality.
The top-shelf Capstone trim atop the Tundra lineup pairs a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 and hybrid system to produce 427 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. On paper this powertrain is the most powerful option in a light-duty pickup truck this side of a Ford F-150 Raptor R or Ram 1500 TRX, but it doesn’t feel as powerful. The hybrid system operates seamlessly and in the background, unlike the hybrid system in the F-150 with its clunky 1-2 and 2-3 shifts and hybrid power handoffs. Even when unloaded mashing the go pedal doesn’t provide the same forward grunt found in the F-150 Hybrid with its 400 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, or even the outgoing high-out twin-turbo V-6 previously available in the F-150 Limited with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.
Four-wheel drive is standard on the $75,925 Capstone model, but despite the luxury model’s large price its four-wheel-drive system is an ancient part-time system. No full-time system is available on any Tundra, though Capstone models feature an automatic limited-slip rear differential.

The big power numbers on paper went for gold at the sacrifice of fuel economy. The hybrid Tundra horse-trades fuel economy ratings with the non-hybrid variant. Hybrid models carry EPA ratings of 19 mpg city, 22 highway, 20 combined while non-hybrids are rated at 17/23/19 mpg. In reality I saw a sad 15.1 mpg in (a rather short) 40 miles of mixed suburban driving according to the trip computer. Falling short of EPA ratings, again, the Tundra averaged 19.4 mpg over the course of 203 highway miles. With the boat (towing is an extremely inefficient activity) the truck averaged 9.4 mpg over 158 miles. None of these real-world numbers are markedly better than a V-8-powered truck from the competition, though they are better than the outgoing 5.7-liter V-8 in the second-generation Tundra, which at times would average just 14 mpg on the highway unloaded.
As disappointing as the hybrid powertrain is, the 10-speed automatic transmission delights. Regardless of whether its stop-and-go traffic, highway cruising, or towing 5,000 lb, the Toyota-built unit snaps off quick, clean shifts. This might be the best transmission available today in a light-duty pickup truck. The programming never allows the transmission to get lost in all the gears.

Hooking up the boat
The act of physically hooking a boat up to the Tundra is reasonably simple thanks to the gigantic screen and multiple camera angles. Once the boat and trailer combo is attached to the rear of the Tundra, there’s the ability to input a few key details such as number of axles on the trailer, type of hookup used (i.e. hitch), and brake type (i.e. electric brakes or surge). This information can be saved in a profile, and then the truck can do its own analysis about the trailer’s length within the first few feet of driving. It then integrates the trailer with the truck’s blind-spot monitors to take into account the extra length. It worked flawlessly and was much simpler than Ford’s input system for trailer information.
With a 5,000-lb fiberglass walleye boat and dual-axle trailer hooked to it, however, the motivation at speed was downright disappointing despite the load checking in well under the Capstone's 10,340-lb max towing capacity. Two front-seat occupants and a 19-lb road bike in the bed also didn't even touch the 1,485-lb max payload capacity. Passing isn’t an issue, but where the high-output twin-turbo V-6 in the last F-150 would lunge forward as if the same boat and trailer didn’t exist, no Tundra driver will ever forget there’s a trailer hooked to this thing. This doesn’t feel like 583 lb-ft of torque. And while the Capstone’s rear air shocks will self-level the suspension so it doesn’t sag, the trailer lash is present at all times unlike with an F-150.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone safety systems disabled
The safety systems demand the driver be buckled during low-speed reverse maneuvers; otherwise, a chime constantly dings. Having a seat belt on makes backing up much less comfortable and in certain situations difficult. Tow mode or hooking up a trailer with the 7-pin light and brake connection does not disable safety systems such as reverse automatic emergency braking. Instead, the driver has to manually turn off the systems by digging through the menus in the gauge cluster. Should someone forget this step it will inevitably lead to the truck slamming on the brakes while reversing a trailer, which could severely hurt someone in the boat at the launch.

Attracting glares or stares?
The second-generation Tundra blended in, but no one will accuse the third-generation of doing the same. With a bold exterior design there’s no missing the Tundra going down the road.
While not for everyone, the design is distinctive. The massive grille is a bit much, but the sculpted headlights with multi-element LED units, big bumper end caps, and centrally-mounted fog lights that border on driving lights are all attractive. The vertical LED talilights feature sequential turn signals. The sculpted hood and fenders give the truck a punched-out look without adding actual width.

Unlike every other light-duty pickup on the market, the Tundra retains its short bed sidewalls that make it possible for someone to reach over into the bed to grab things. The shorter bed walls also make for a lower tailgate height when open, which translates to a lower lift-over height for loading cargo into the bed. The bed is now made of a resin composite instead of steel, which means it won’t rust, though other bits on the truck still can.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
In a “I can’t believe Ford didn’t think of that” truck innovation, Toyota installed an electric tailgate release that can be bumped with an elbow while carrying something with both arms next to the driver-side taillight. Clutch.

But just like with Ram and Nissan, the rear bumper step continues to be a drop-down step. At least on the Capstone model it’s automatic and power operated. General Motors’ corner bumper steps are a much better idea.
Capstone models class up the Tundra with a satin silver grille, chrome side mirror caps, chrome trim, and attractive 22-inch wheels.

White was a bad choice
Every Tundra Capstone features a two-tone white and black black leather interior. A lot of touch-heavy surfaces including the seat backs, front center armrests, door uppers, and door pulls along with part of the dashboard are covered in white leather.
On day one it probably looked nice. Upon hooking up a boat and fiddling with the receiver for the hitch I found myself looking at the interior wondering, how in the world was I going to shut the door without ruining the white leather with my dirty hands? White isn’t a practical leather color for a pickup truck.

The massive 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system’s interface is easy to navigate and is augmented by hard buttons, but it lacks the ability to split the screen. When Apple CarPlay is pulled up it overtakes the entire system, and nobody needs that much Apple CarPlay.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
While comfortable for five passengers, the interior packaging is compromised. The front seat occupants’ view of the road is hindered by a short windshield. This is due to a high front cowl and tall dashboard to give the Tundra its imposing look inside and out. It’s the opposite of the terrific view from the front seat of a Ram 1500 or a Ford F-150. The rear seat, which has plenty of knee, foot, and leg room, is stadium-style with the hybrid battery pack mounted beneath the seat bottom. This places the rear seat occupant higher than those in front for a weird view, and those over 6 feet tall will either run out of head room or feel as if they're sitting on a perch.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
While overall the interior feels hollow and cheap with nice materials providing a thin veneer, the gear selector is an odd high point. The beefy console-mounted shifter doesn’t wiggle like the unit in the Ford F-150, and isn’t a rotary design like most Ram 1500s. It’s instantly my new favorite shifter in a light-duty pickup truck with solid, satisfying action as it clicks into place.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
Toyota continues to offer an electronic rear window that slides down into the back of the cab. It’s useful when backing up and trying to communicate with someone. It’s a truly delightful feature that only the Tundra offers.
2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone
Fails to change the game
The $75,925 Tundra Capstone is a tough sell against the nicer Ram 1500 Limited or Ford F-150 Limited.
But with a composite bed that’s easier to access than the competition, distinctive design, and neat touches like the sliding rear window and bump release for the tailgate, the Tundra might just be worth considering in a less expensive trim.

Over 200000k with no major issues, performs very well. The vehicle was purchased new, I have driven for over 200,000k with only brakes needing replacement at 165,000k and that was just rear brakes, the front was still at 50% life. The only other repair has been a water pump due a small leak. The vehicles has exceeded all expectations for performance, gas mileage in southern climates as well as Winnipeg winters.

White Pearl Paint peeling off vehicle in sheets. Due to factory faulty issues with primer that was used. Lots of people are having this issue with that. And sadly Toyota is not willing to admit to the factory problem with the primer. Never again.

Contacted customer service after a recall of my 2017 Toyota Tacoma was approaching the third month of me being without my new truck (due to the recall). I had to cancel a road/camping trip that I had planned and outfitted my new truck to go on. Also, had to keep going to their rental department to renew their loaner car- time and money spent doing so. Was disappointed and contacted customer service to see what they could do to make it right. Got the complete chase your own tail from their customer service. LONG on hold wait times, rude and dishonest customer care agents, no help, run around, waste of time. Did nothing to make my experience better. My third new Toyota that I had purchased, and I generally like the product, but I will never buy another vehicle from Toyota purely because of how I was treated and their total lack of customer care.

Great value for the money. Limited trunk space. An optional package on the higher end would have been nice. The small window in the rear doors is difficult for passengers that get car sick. 40l of fuel gets about 600km.

We leased a brand new 2019 Toyota Sienna XLE and after a few weeks it got a terrible mold smell. After being in the dealership shop for a few weeks we were told that it had a leak in the sealant by the side panel which was causing rainwater to leak in and gather underneath the mat by the driver seat. There was lots of mold growing there. Its unbelievable how a car can come off the Toyota assembly line this way. All our car seats, Clothing and personal belongings developed a terrible mold smell and had to be thrown out. Toyota didnt even care to reimburse us for the personal damage that we incurred or to reimburse us for our monthly payments. In other words we had to pay monthly payments to Toyota while we had a moldy car that wasnt drive-able. They told us if we dont make our payments they will ruin our credit. The car also caused us terrible embarrassment since we smelled from mold after exiting the van. After driving the vehicle we would shower and change our clothing in order not to smell and get embarrassment comments from others. We felt like we were dealing with a big company that couldnt care less about their small customers.

Very reliable four door car, it gets drove every day. I havent had any problems and that is longer and shorter trips. I like the electric windows too. Mileage is pretty good, easy enough to detail, nice color, cant lose the gas cap its attached, simple levers to open hood and gas, and same for trunk can easily be opened by a button. However, sunroof would be cool. I like my car a lot. I would recommend to anybody looking for a reliable car to be able to count on anywhere you need to go. Everything is simple and in your reach.

My 2007 Toyota Camry - 10 years and the car is still going strong! There was two problems with the car, but these were caused by mechanics at the dealership and NOT by the Toyota factory. Another dealership heard my complaints and fixed the car at NO charge to me without any arguing! They even paid for a rental car! Some say Toyota is boring, I guess if you like a car that never breaks down, then I suppose it is boring! The car just keeps driving without problems, oh, how boring is that! The car was bought 50% on a Toyota Loan. I made my payments for the first year until I received some other money and was allowed to pay the remainder of the loan without further interest and/or penalties. It was a very fair and easy plan to follow. Reason for my review; It is important to not confuse the car with the dealership, that is to say, some dealerships are better than others.

I am writing regarding my concern about a technical service bulletin that I recently became aware of. My husband and I keep all documentation from our cars and mailings that we receive and to be honest we do not have anything in our files that Toyota sent us regarding the oil consumption problem. I have a 2009 Matrix that I purchased at the end of July 2008. Recently I have had to put between 2-4 quarts of oil into my car in between oil changes. Recently when I had my car at my mechanic he was the one who mentioned this issue to me so I contacted the dealership in North Attleboro where I purchased the car 10 years ago. The person that I spoke with told me to come in and they could start an oil consumption test and if they found anything he mentioned they would replace the pistons and look to see what else needed to be done.Today when I brought my car in I was informed that I was no longer eligible and would have had to had this completed by the end of July since that is 10 years from when I purchased my car or 150K miles whichever came first. I am currently at 128,000 miles. I am very frustrated that they have extended this program but have no flexibility in helping a customer when it happens a couple months after they are out of the 10 year period. As mentioned I am still under the mileage.I called the customer care line today and spoke with a woman who could only read me verbatim what I already knew and could not offer any other resolutions. I am saddened that Toyota does not stand behind their products with known issues when they happen outside of a certain time period. I will be submitting something to the BBB to and the reference number for the contact I have had with Toyota is **. I would hope that others who have this same issue are offered a solution. At this time I know that my solution is you will have likely lost at least 3 households who have been loyal to Toyota in the past.

As with most Toyota’s bulletproof comes to mind and this vehicle is no exception. Good connectivity in car along with a fairly comfortable ride. Drive range is good considering the weight when fully loaded, I averaged about 850kms for a full 76ltr tank. Great towing capacity at around 2 ton coupled with a deep tray gives you plenty of space. All around great car.

My name is Viren ** and I bought my Venza AWD from Canada brand new with top model and I paid about 46000 Canadian dollar and I took extended warranty for 7 years bumper to bumper. My bad luck that I moved to USA for my business and I didnt know that if I register my vehicle from Canada to USA then all warranty void. And it gone. I paid for my warranty about 2100 dollar and I never use it. They gave me back about 600 dollar in 2015, at that time my car mileage was 68000 kms (about 42000miles). After that I start servicing and oil change in Greenville Toyota for my both car Sienna limited and Venza. I used to pay for just oil about 90 dollar which is too costly. So I start to buy oil from Autozone and one of mechanic he change it for me with 15 dollar labor.Recently 2 week ago I was driving my Venza from 40 to 60 mile zone and suddenly I heard a bad noise and start to come out little smoke. So I just stopped on road and try to check it out and I found that lots of oil was leaking and my car couldnt start again so I towed to Greenville Toyota. They people diagnosis and told me that, Your engine block has hole so your engine is gone and now you have to replace it and cost will be about 7100 dollar. I was shocked, before that never I got any engine light indication and suddenly this happened. I talked with Toyota customer service and try to help me out and how come just 64000 mile engine can gone. And they told me that might be there will be lubricating problem with engine so that is happened. Because of I never did service with them since 2016 so. If I used to service with them then they can try to say something else but never say that about machine faulty or bad parts. I read review online about Venza engine and people says that VVT-i engine is famous to with bad impression. After that I went to Hendricks Honda in Greenville and just ask them about the cost of fixing my car and they gave me quote is 5100 dollar with 3 years or 36000 mile warranty on engine. So I moved my car from GREENVILLE TOYOTA TO HONDA. Today my car is fixed by Honda just like brand new. I used to big fan of Toyota and I am driving Toyota both my vehicle since 2008 but this incident and response from Toyota. I will never buy Toyota vehicle and I will never went to Greenville Toyota. My Venza is low mileage car and driven by my wife all the time just in town and still this happen with luxuries car for I paid almost 50000 dollar and company say your power train warranty from company expired on 60000 mile so we cant do anything. From my experience I learnt that nowadays Toyota has to commitment with customer like used to be. So think about it to buy a vehicle from Toyota. I would prefer to go to Honda or some other car company who can provide good service and at least accept any defect if there.

My friend and I were looking for a car for me. We went to a car place and found a grey Toyota. Its a very nice plain color and the inside is nice as well. It works very well, good to drive around and no gas problems. But sometimes it wont lock right away when I press the lock button on my keys. Other than that a lot of my friends and family love the car. Not all cars are the same but, some cars are definitely worth having.

$3k ABS failure. 2 months out of government mandated warranty ext. Toyota has a reputation for reliability that couldnt be farther from the truth. From gas pedals sticking causing accidents, frames rusting into nothing barely out of warranty, hybrid batteries catching fire, and my personal experience ABS Actuator failing causing brake failure with my family in the car. Toyota after being forced by the NHTSA to recall 2006-07 Highlanders and 08-09 Camry skated extending that recall to 2008-10 Highlanders due to lower sales numbers and failure rates caused by our countries recession then. Supporting a company by buying vehicles from a company that conducts business this way is a mistake that misleads us all. Stay away from Toyota for the safety of your loved ones.

My Toyota Camry I bought Brand New had a squeaking noise in the struts only at 47,000 miles. Back Struts were changed at the dealership. The warranty coverage for this car is only 36,000 miles or 36 months. I have to pay out of pocket $ 376,00.00 hard cash. Very very very bad reputation for a Toyota car that I have had so much respect for due to recommendations I have had. Very very disappointed and bad experience with Toyota 2018 Camry SE.

I have dealt with the Ganley (formerly Geller) dealership for 40 years. During that time the service department and sales consultants have for the most part been exemplary. I was distraught when my 2013 Scion XD was totaled by a driver running a red light. No one was injured or killed; however, I could barely think straight about a replacement car both with financing and the Scions unavailability.Sales consultant, Matt **, was outstanding and empathic about my situation. He is a star when it comes to following through with every detail. Dan **, John, and Mike ** are incredible in Service. All this dealerships mechanics also work on Mercedes as it is a dual dealership - a definite added advantage. Matt advised me that the 2019 CH-R XLE would be a great car for me and take away the sting of my losing my prior car. He was correct. The CH-R XLE has beautiful styling and has so many safety features that my car insurance rates went down. Ganley Toyota is a wonderful dealership and truly represents the Quality of the Toyota brand.
I purchased 2015 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid from Toyota AutoNation, Austin, TX.
I purchased 2015 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid from Toyota AutoNation, Austin, TX. I bought also 5 years protection plan. My car is 29K mileage. I have visited Richardson, TX last Friday and they charged me $88 for service and told me that, I could only go to Austin Toyota AutoNation or PepBoys for service free. Isnt that weird, you are paying additionally $1800 to take care of your car by Toyota and they tell you this. While I was buying this protection plan I dont think so someone mentioned it because I wouldnt buy then, I check all documents and never seen anywhere at all. Please contact me asap. Thanks.

I took Toyota Sequoia in for Takeda Air Bag recall... Left unable to access the back of the car. I asked if they could check the back trunk of car since the air conditioning might be leaking. They broke the back handle to open the trunk off and CLAIMED it was missing when I dropped the car off. Funny thing is at 6:30 am when I took a case of water out of the back it was just fine. The service manager, Jason said, It is an old car, things break. My appointment was at 7 am, it was there and working at 6:30. Strange? I said they broke and need to fix it and he said that he will not, unless of course, I want to pay. They broke it, I am positive. I asked if they had cameras so we could look at the footage (of them breaking it) and conveniently my car was outside, not near any cameras.I opened a complaint with Toyota Corporate and other than they are lovely to speak with they did not care at all. They are kind and continue to say how sorry they are for this negative experience but claim there is nothing they can do to assist me. I ended up purchasing the part from another Toyota dealer for $129.00. They were unable to install due to their schedule (keep in mind I have been unable to open the trunk for weeks now), so I took it to local repair shop for another $160. My airbag recall cost me! When I told Toyota Corporate numerous times I felt they should cover my cost they said they are sorry but cannot help! Seriously? I told them I have receipts I can give them... nothing. They are like talking to the wall. The dealership (Glen Toyota in Fair Lawn NJ) told Toyota Corporate they offered to install without charging labor, just charging for parts. They did NOT offer this. They offered nothing but rather insisted they did not break it.

After purchasing a Toyota certified Venza that as used, I noticed the steering column as shaking making rattling noise in which there are tons of complaints. I contacted the Toyota corporate and they agreed to have it looked at. When they finally found the problem and I was right, they denied me of getting it fixed. They told me to call the Kia dealership in which I purchased. However, why would I have my Toyota certified vehicle fixed at a Kia dealership. Then they told me to buy a warranty. But if the car has a precondition, it wont get fixed anyway. So now Im out money and instead of their price of 300 I will have to pay 1300. Im so upset. I was almost in an accident a couple of weeks ago for failure to control my steering wheel.

When The air is turned on I hear a very high pitched noise that comes from the blower motors of the car. I took it to go get looked at and another car on the lot was making the same noise so they said it is just a noise that the car makes. I wish I would have heard the noise before I bought the car. Now I’m stuck with it.

40 plus years of buying nothing but Toyota. 4 in my driveway right now. But no more! They used to be excellent about addressing defects in their vehicles. No more - they refuse to correct flawed HID headlight systems short of paying them about 4,000 for replacement with the improved headlight assemblies. They were always on top of safety issues in the past regardless of whether your vehicle was still in warranty or not. Even when recalls were not mandated. Obviously when they wont take care of widespread randomly failing headlights, that policy is no more. So I say - Toyota no more!

I have owned two Toyota Camrys (1999 & 2005). The 1999 was a V6. I dont need to be specific other than to say, if you want drive a car that can easily last more than 200,000 without the expensive repairs, this is the brand to consider. Toyota should definitely earn the Most Reliable Japanese Car award. Look around when youre driving. What do you see most? Toyotas, BMWs, Hondas, etc. I dont remember any rental car companies that use Toyotas, which means every Toyota you see on the road are either owned or leased, and not rented. (I might be wrong, btw.) So, something for you to consider the next time youre in the market to buy cars.Tip to all the Toyota owners: If your mechanic tells you something is bad and your has less than 75,000 miles, he is lying to you. I have brought my Toyotas to many local shops (to save money from dealerships exaggerated cost for repairs) and they have suggested to replace the water pump, the radiator, this or that. I was wary and skeptical with their scare tactic approach, so I didnt fix it at that time. Now, 7 years later and with 127,000 miles, its still running smoothly. Of course, you still have your routine maintenance that needs to be replaced every few years (air filter, tires, batteries, etc). One mechanic told me, A Toyota with less than 100,000 is still considered almost new. You just have to make sure to change your oil every three to four thousand miles and tune up your car every now and then. These are his words, not mine. My owner manual states every 5000 miles for each oil change, but I think that also depends on how you drive it and how frequent it is driven. You can save a lot of $$$ if you buy it used.Bottom line is, if you want a car for the long-haul of saving money for many years to come, you should definitely consider buying a Toyota. Now, sometimes I wonder why Toyota owners even own Toyotas. I know I drive it because this car was handed down to me and Im just waiting for it to break down. I mean, lets face it: Tundra drivers dont drive it to haul stuff. (There are many other stronger trucks.) You cant show off your social status with an Avalon. (Again, there are way more other choices.) You cant pick up girls with Camrys. (Not sporty enough to be a sport car and not luxury enough to be a high-class car.) A Corolla is good for what? Prius are well-known for their electric cars, which have been in high demand this past decade. In my opinion, I think you will want to get rid of your Toyota before it will stop working on you.

I have owned many cars and this is by far the best car I have ever owned. Handling is a dream. Power is just enough to climb steep hills without beating it up too much. Braking is great for the weight of the car. Gas mileage is phenomenal. I consistently get 30 MPG on highways and 26-28 in the city. Have had zero issues with this car since I got it and keep it well maintained.

Unfortunately a header cracked in our Highlanders engine and caused the entire engine to blow at less than 84,000 miles. As the mechanic at the Toyota dealership put it, This shouldnt have happened. After contacting the Customer Experience Department I was told that financial assistance in these situations is based upon customer loyalty and service records. We own a second Toyota that was purchased at a Toyota dealership a few years prior to our Highlander.Additionally, I offered to provide my service records but the Customer Experience Department already decided they werent going to help us recover any of the loss. The cost to replace the engine was $7,500. Toyota could have easily offered to pay $2,000 of the cost and kept me as a customer but apparently making intelligent business decisions is not a top priority for the Customer Experience Department. In total I gave Toyota over $60,000 for two automobiles in the last 7 years. My wife and I are in our 30s which means we will probably purchase another 10 cars in our lifetime. If half of those were Toyotas at an average cost of $30,000, that is $150,000 in revenue they just gave up because they refuse to assist a loyal customer. Congratulations Toyota, I will never buy another one of your automobiles again! You have officially lost me as a customer for life.

My car that had high mileage I sold was 2004 Toyota Echo. Also a stellar performer. This Toyota Yaris was an acquisition as my mom is 94 and is bed bound so this became mine and it is a 2007 with only 25,000 miles on it. I did have to bring it to Toyota for a few recalls and had dialogue with them about some defective cables they said were ok but since the 2007 dont install anymore? But all in all she handles great. A little 2 door hatch back I will drive till shes dead! Cheers!

This is regarding Toyota case #** that I have filed for Toyota Of Dallas when I purchased 2018 Rav4 XLE on April 27, 2018. Its been 4 business days and still this issue has not been resolved yet. Let me describe you the details about this issue - I got the OTD with student grad offer for that vehicle one day prior before purchasing that vehicle and I also filled out my loan application to save 1.5 hours as mentioned in your website. When I came to Toyota of Dallas dealership, the salesman told me that I am not eligible for student grad offer even though I submitted my diploma and proof of income (As per Toyota, I should be eligible to get this offer as I have all the documents and excellent credit history and score). So, I ended up getting another OTD for this vehicle. When I went to Toyota Financial Advisor for this dealership, he told me I can get student grad offer but I have to purchase extended warranty as well otherwise I cannot get that offer. But I had told him that I do not want extended warranty but only GAP insurance. At last, I ended up signing contract as I was exhausted, starving as I hadnt had any meal. Even though I had OTD for this vehicle and I submitted loan application online, it took me about 4.5 hours to get this vehicle out. I know this dealership usually takes time to make customer exhausted so they can play with their numbers. When I came home, and started looking out contract, there should be 2 contracts which the Financial Advisor told me but instead there was 3 contracts (last contract he just attached to my other paperwork). The Financial Advisor told me if I submit last year tax document, then my monthly payment for vehicle will be 406, if not then 419, then how come there was another contract with 456 (As you can see, they make me sign electronically in pad and there was nothing except signature box)? Then I open a case against this dealership with Toyota. So, next day I went to the dealership and told Internet sales manager Syed to let me meet to one of the PR Manager, then he told me, “I am the manager.” So, I told him that I dont know about that. After that, he told me to get out of this building as I was disrespecting him. How I am going to know who he is until he show me some proof? And this dealership is treating customer like a piece of crap after buying vehicle. How can a manager say to customer to get out of the building instead of trying to resolve the issue? So, today I called Toyota again as I had not receive any response yet from dealership. Finally, today I got a call from Director from Toyota of Dallas around 2 PM and he told me that I have to submit 2 years of Tax document in order to qualify for student grad offer. So, at this point the dealership are just telling me whatever they want because another Financial Advisor told me to submit only last year tax document. I told him that and I told him what my numbers should be and then he told me that he will review and call me back. The dealer is closed right now and I have not receive any call yet. Does it take more than 7 hours to review this case? Its been 7 days I have been stressing out due to this reason. So, could you try to escalate this issue to be resolve asap? I wish it would have been a happy purchase but the fraud/false activities of this dealership wont making us customers happy. Also, PFAs for contracts and paperwork and at this point, even though If I submit my tax return, I do not know which amount is going to be my monthly payments? I want to remove extended warranty and GAP insurance from my contract. And I want to re-sign the contract with the Financed Amount 22701.43 (406.58 monthly payments one, after deducting extended warranty and GAP Insurance) because I have put $3000 down payment already and it was a deal I received before going to the dealership. After 4 business days, this issue has not been resolved yet. They make me sign on electronic pad which there was nothing written except the signature box. and found out that they are charging me more amount in that contract than what I was given OTD. Do not sign on that electronic pad. Now, I have 3 different amounts for one car. I would rather spend that extra charge money on lawyer instead letting this business get it. June 2018 I bought my wife a 2010 Toyota Sequoia Platinum. Being a mechanic I asked all of the questions about the service history of the one I was buying. I was told that it had never had any issues, trouble codes, wrecked, or anything. Within the first month the check engine light came on. My wife thought that it meant low oil so she took it to a Jiffy Lube. They performed the normal oil change service and scanned the computer to see why the engine light was on. They told her that it had a history of setting off the check engine light & trouble codes for the air injection system & that the dealer charges about $4000 to fix that, so they just keep clearing the code, which clears the engine light, and sold it to us without fixing the problem. At the time it had 145,000 miles and was within the warranty (that we didnt know about). The dealer told us that there was not a warranty and kept trying to sell us an aftermarket warranty when we bought it. My wife told me that she got the oil changed & the paperwork was in the console, without telling me everything else. Now: two months ago it did it again but put it in limp home mode. It is now setting in my pasture broken down & waiting for repair because Toyota refuses to fix it under warranty because it is now 154000 miles, 4000 beyond the warranty, even though we bought it within the warranty mileage and it messed up right away and showed a history of having this problem before we bought it from the dealer. This is my first and Last Toyota I will ever own. I should not have to jump through hoops or have to hire an attorney to sue them to make them stand behind their product.

I’ve owned different makes in the past. GM, Ford, Dodge and Toyotas. Since 1985, I’ve owned several Toyotas. Every Toyota I’ve owned has outperformed the other makes by a wide margin. They are more reliable and more durable than all the other makes. Every Ford I’ve owned needed major repairs because of either substandard build and/or substandard parts. The 2014 RAM 3500 I owned had a substandard design. Back to Toyota, its website is pretty easy to get around. Toyota’s one drawback is its pricing, especially for its trucks. But as the old adage says “you get what you pay for”, and with Toyota it is my experience you get greater quality.

I leased a 2012 Toyota Camry in 2012. I was not able to make payments so they took the car. Then after they sold the car there was a balance of $4,689.28 which I was not aware of. 2019 comes in and they hired Rubin and Rothman law firm and this law firm of crooks is trying to charge me $11133.56 with interest fees and according to Toyota interest fees are never charged on a closed account. Shame on YOU Toyota!!! For not doing your due diligence and hiring a bunch of THUGS to misrepresent YOU!

Toyota Sequoia has a nice ride to it and handles well for a large SUV. It has a large storage capacity and many compartments for additional storage. The engine has power to pull a trailer with air conditioning on. The gears shift smoothly and provide enough torque.

Absolutely loved the Toyota CHR from the moment I drove it. It has spacious interior and the camera is extremely useful and well placed on the rear view mirror which is super convenient. It also has great seating considering that its a MID sized car. Moreover, it has radio with Bluetooth. Driving this vehicle on a daily basis is something I look forward to. Although it has no CD player, which I get, it would be useful for those times where you want to listen to a CD. Also, I feel that the engine is lacking a little bit of power. I wish it was a little stronger. All in all, driving this vehicle on a daily basis is something I look forward to. And the experience we had at Toyota of Hollywood Florida was absolutely stellar. I would buy a the Toyota CHR again in a heartbeat.

My Venza is my favorite car so far. It has been very reliable and I have only had to do routine maintenance. I really like the sporty look of it and there are vents in the back. The back seats are comfortable and they fold down easily to provide a lot of storage space. Also, the car has good pick-up and I was impressed with the gas mileage. However, the cabin could be quieter, the road noise is pretty loud and the engine seems loud as well. My automatic locks are not working right now, either. But overall I am satisfied.

Sequoia is comfy and sturdy! Great family truck. The back hatch handle goes out on the 2003. And last week the water pump went out. $1,000 repair. Other than that it’s been almost trouble free for 174,000 miles, with regular maintenance.

Ive had my Yaris Toyota hatchback since it was new. Its a 2009 model. And I picked it because I could drive it with a straight leg. I appreciate the size of having a small car. It also had automatic transportation and good on gasoline. I very much like the fate that it has had no mechanical problems and is a small wheel base car for parking and quick turnaround. However, I would liked to have a GPS, automatic speed control, a much more comfortable seat, with satellite and inner wireless connection. Also, my car color is maroon and it gets hotter in the sun.

I always had a good trust in Toyotas reliability but no more. I bought 4 Toyota cars in different times and my first car was new Corolla 1983. The last car Camry 2009 which has engine consuming oil problem. Toyota refused to address the issue. I further researched on the net that Camry engines year 2007 to 2011 has same problem and Toyota is less of care. Finding excuses not to fix the issue. All Camry owners are suffering. The problem started after standard warranty was expired. In 2014 Toyota after a class action suit filed by the Camry owners to extend a warranty program which has lot of loop holes and many owners still couldnt avail it and Im one of them. Toyota corporate refused to address the issue. I think the best thing is to stop buying Toyota as it is no more reliable car. Toyota is anyway most expensive to its competitors I.e. Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda etc. I will not ever buy/lease Toyota anymore.

Toyota Yaris has run very well. I have over 110,000 miles on it and it has not needed any repairs except general maintenance. I replaced the oil pan, but was covered by warranty. It also gets very good mileage. The seat are fairly comfortable and I can fit 4 adults in the car with no problem. Good trunk space. It is very reliable. However, I want a car with bluetooth. It is a very light car, and in high winds, or when a truck passes me, it is very noticeable. Blind spots are a problem as well.

I have purchased 3 Toyota vehicles. My last was a 2015 Venza LE. Its a red color. As of 3 weeks ago I notice clear spots on the rooftop on the passenger side and door. Its like the primer didnt settle correctly. I bought the car as new. Its only two yrs. old and only 17,566 miles on it. Brought it to the dealer where I originally bought it and the service manager gave me a I dont care attitude. A week goes by - no answer. Finally I called Toyota care customer service and they got in contact with the dealer. The service manager forgot to file the claim. Wow. I was so upset. That same day Toyota told the dealer that Its not a Toyota defect. I was told by the service manager its acid rain. Its a new car. I had older cars with no paint problems caused by acid rain. The primer never settled. Toyota doesnt want to fix the problem. I cant believe how they have treated me. I will never buy a Toyota vehicle. I think I might go with a Kia or Mazda.

I placed a complaint regarding a warranty on my 2019 Tundra. After 3000 miles rotors had to be grinded. Have place multiple calls to case manager. Toyota system rigged up to when they call you they only leave a message and you are not ever able to talk to them. Have asked to talk to supervisors. No luck. I get better service at Joes Service station.. Totally sucks that company this large not able to address problems. Been on phone for over 4 hours total. TOTALLY SUCKS. WILL BE A SERIOUS CONSIDERATION FOR NEXT TRUCK. ** TOYOTA!!!!

Toyota had a recall on the passenger airbag of some of their vehicles. My Toyota Corolla was one of them. I was to take my Toyota to my nearest Toyota dealer for an airbag replacement. I did so promptly. The issue is that I had to travel 280 km (return) as well as take 4 hours out of my day. I believe that I should be compensated for my time and mileage because it was not my fault that the air bag was faulty. I have contacted Toyotas customer service department but they have refused any compensation whatsoever. I do believe this is totally unfair and I am more than disappointed. I used to hear nothing but great things about Toyotas customer service but I have now had two unsatisfactory incidents with Toyota, neither of which was my doing. I must say, I was very pleased with the customer service that I received from the installer of the airbag, the Toyota Northwest Edmonton dealer.

I drive a 2011 Toyota Avalon. My alternator went out in Flagstaff, AZ and I had it towed to the dealer. It was a Saturday and I was traveling so they put in a replacement (not Toyota) but it had a lifetime warranty. The alternator went bad within a year. I went to my local dealer - Bob Smith for help. The service manager Brian instructed the service writer Frank to charge $300 for the labor on the replacement. I was charged $155 for labor in Flagstaff and argued this point. I even called another local So Cal Toyota dealer, gave them my VIN # and they quoted $155 as the fee for the labor.I asked Frank again, he said he can only do what Brian tells him. I said, “Look Ive been a loyal customer for 17 years. I know you are expensive but really surprised at the dishonesty.” They finally lowered the fee to $250 but kept insisting that changing an alternator takes 3 hours. I also called Toyota complaint department to file a complaint and was given a case # but no follow up there either. Very disappointed by this transaction.

I purchased my car here at the Toyota dealership on Thornton Road in April 2018 and ever since I purchased this particular car the check engine light has been on. I have taken the car to the Volkswagen dealership at the Toyota dealership where I purchased the car here over five times to get serviced and after weeks of them keeping the car nothing has worked or been rectified. The check engine light is still on and I have not been treated fairly as a consumer. I have been sold a lemon and their cars here are not reliable. It scares me to know that I invested money hard earned cash money to this company and they disrespected me by selling me a car that is not reliable.

My Prius is fine. However, I regret this recent purchase as I have just learned that Toyota is irresponsibly abetting the attempt to reduce emission/mileage standards. I have bought a number of Toyotas in the past and have always thought that I was helping to move, however slowly, towards the massive reduction in emissions that we achieve before further collapse makes that question, and so many others (as well as auto makers profits) moot! I truly hope that Toyotas management will consider our collective future and abandon this position - and regain my trust.

Air conditioner died after 43,000 KMS. It will cost $1400 to repair I have never owned a car with an air conditioner die with less than 150,000 Im. I will never buy a Toyota product again. Time to trade in for another vehicle before something else happens. So much for Toyota reliability.

Dependable, minor repairs, die hard reliability. I wont buy American anytime soon, had those and problems. Went with Toyota, Nissan, Lexus... so damn elated I did. Rock solid reliability and dependability!!! Resale was simple and more money compared to the American counterpart. Im sold on foreign vehicles. Even when repairs were needed, they were few and far between. The parts were the biggest money suckered, ouch!

In my life Ive had Chevys, Fords, AMC and Nissan along with Toyota. Todays cars and trucks are not made to last. You would be lucky to get 75,000 to 100,000 miles of trouble free use out of America cars. Very sad. Seem we made them for the masses. But Toyota is incredible for what you pay, as long as you take care of it maintenance wise. You can very easily run it for 300,000 to 500,000 miles. Which is why I buy them, I got 350,000 mile out of my last Corolla and now I have a Tacoma that has 130,000 miles and still runs great and along with that everything still works on the truck.

My son bought an used 2006 Toyota Avalon last year. The dashboard is cracked. After doing some online search we found a recall for this problem. I called Toyota today to learn they don’t honor this recall anymore. The word I received is that because the recall is expired, they don’t repair the problematic dashboard anymore. My conclusion here is: don’t buy Toyota, they don’t stand by their products. Competition here we go. There are other companies out there that stand by their brand.

I have driven a Toyota for the last 11 years. My first was an echo then I bought a new corolla ascent in 2008. I loved that car and nothing ever went wrong. I would have given a 100% satisfaction. In Oct 2015 I traded it in for a corolla ascent sport. What a difference - First of all I did a hill start and smelt burning or petrol. When I complained to Toyota they said its my driving... Ive been driving for over 20 years and never experienced this before. And in June 2016 I find a hole in the seam on the back of the driver chair. My instinct tell me that it is a weak material/stitching but also a weak joint in the manufacturing of the chair itself. Toyota tell me its the material and will change the seat cover. Today 21 June 2016 I drop my car off at the service centre. I stress my concern on the weakness of the chair itself. I pick my car up and they havent changed the cover, they have ordered a new back for the seat. I was right, it was a fault in the chair itself. Shame on Toyota. They were always right up there with safety. Now Im not so sure. This seat would have crumpled had I been in an accident. I describe this car as ascetically lovely but cheap manufacturing. I would never have said this pre this car.

Its a Toyota, which is a great thing. Its small, which is what I look for. Very stable & easy to park. Plenty of room for driver and one passenger, a perfect commuter car. Im confident driving it on the highway and the interstate where its heavy enough to withstand traffic turbulence.

I am very very happy with my experience with the 2012 Toyota Kia. Since I had it its been my daily driver and barely have had any issues with it, its very good on gas, and has a camera on the mirror when backing out of a parking spot. I like that it has good gas mileage, not too expensive to fix if something happens to car, easy driver, had benefits for my children, and just a very great car in general. One of the best vehicles I have had to be honest. But it messes up more than any other vehicle I had in the past.

The motors are really good. They last a long time. The drive train is really good. The body will rust off before the motor goes bad. Get good gas mileage around 20 miles to the gallon on most. The seat belts are strong and the air bags dont burn you when they hit your chest. Well already mine didnt. The storing is perfect. It will take a curve like its out of this world and the brakes will stop you on a dime. Parts are really cheap for the most part and the motors if you ever have to work on it besides regular stuff the motors are very easy and simple to work on. I had mine for 15 years and never had any major problems and the motor was still running good after 15 years and I put it through a lot. I mean a lot.

@toyota #toyota Too bad your remote start feature is not working right. I should of never dealt with this company. Now Im stuck with a brand new 2020 Corolla with no functional remote start. Im still waiting from Toyota headquarters to call me back! Please rethink your choice of car. Toyota is not the best anymore sad to say. There are a lot of other brand of cars to choose from.

My complaint: The issue of tan color leather seats and dye transferring. Toyota being aware of the issue and not standing behind their product. I recently purchased a 2016 Toyota Avalon. At the time of purchase I purchase the extended. During the first two weeks I noticed that the tan leather seats were changing colors. On the seat and up by the shoulders and in the drivers seat were dark. I reached out to customer service Nationally and locally for assistance on this issue. I was informed that this is what Toyota call transferring. Which means that the dye from the clothing that I was wearing was transferring onto the leather seats. I was contacted by the local service manager at Sunnyside Toyota who informed me that they would do a one-time courtesy cleaning of the leather seats. She informed me this is not a Toyota issue. It was the clothing industry issue. I explain that the leather had not been treated properly because dye should not be transferring that easily to this leather and I wanted to bring the car back. Her reply was, Cars are not like an item you purchase at Target. You cant just return it. She suggested that I trade in the car or I could possibly buy seat covers. Seat covers to cover the leather seats in my car... When I asked if they, the dealership, carry the seat covers she suggested I buy them aftermarket but I needed to be sure that I purchased seat covers that allowed for the airbags in my car. My issue with this whole matter is if your company is aware of this issue why havent they did anything to correct or resolve the matter.

Amazing trunk space, lots of space for kids and supplies, great sound system, and great mirrors. Love the 3rd-row seats, stow and go 3rd row, and love the rearview camera. Power sliding doors, spacious interior, optional 8th seat, and easy access to 3rd row seats. I wish it had front view camera, sunroof, built-in vacuum, parking assist for parallel parking, power trunk, easier access to opening windows, and better-tinted windows.

Toyota has known for yrs that the blizzard pearl and super white paint is falling off cars. They are in phase 1 of starting to do something. Because I have a Sequoia platinum they say they wont fix it. There are lots of people with Sequoias and Highlanders whose paint is peeling off. I have a 60000$ car that the paint is falling off. That sure doesnt do much for trade in value but, they dont care. I am still going to fight this. Its the paint that is bad not the car.

Called Toyota today. Had a problem with the 2009 Toyota Corolla with their power steering. They claimed that only a service manual was sent out back in 2010. But where they LIED is the fact there is a class action law suit that was just settled on April 4th 2016 saying that we were entitled to a 50% refund for the amount paid on the fix... Instead they LIED and said that there was no other information and when I brought up the suit he said well since its not listed on his end there was nothing he could do... Useless isnt even the word to describe Toyota Customer Service. What a Joke.

Many of us believe that TOYOTA is a best brand and it will run at least for 100000 miles. I also felt the same and bought the car from a dealer earlier in 2013, a 2010 Toyota Camry. Now the miles is around 84000. All of the sudden the engine started to make noise. No rains, no animals, no accident. It started to behave on its own. The check engine light and VSC light started to glow, I am shocked to see this happening. I went to TOYOTA dealer. They said this is a serious problem. A car having trouble in engine within 84000 miles. I was also crazy to hear it.I called the Toyota Motors. They simply state the engine is out of warranty and they cannot help on this as they can provide only the warranty for 5 Years or 60000 miles. Even though I explained the situation they are not ready to listen anymore and they simply declined the request. With no other options left I have to go back to my Toyota dealer again. Now he me about 6000$. After an hour talk he reduced to 4000$. The part is coming only around 1000$ but the service charge they are asking for 3000$. The problem is with the ignition coil and when I read it in the websites there are chances that the car could have been gone uncontrol and its a risk factor for anyone to drive. Toyota is not ready to accept this as its fault. I believe they need to value the customers and their safety.

I love working with the people at Larry Miller Toyota in Phoenix. They are so very helpful, knowledgeable and supremely customer oriented. They will describe to me what the issue is, give me the opportunity To accept or reject the maintenance that is suggested. They will also tell me the cost and tell me how I can pay it or finance it and whether it is absolutely necessary at the time. I so appreciate the work that they do and the honesty that they provide. I also am very comfortable waiting for my vehicle to be serviced as their customer service lounge is awesome. Barbara

The front driver seats edge of my 2019 Toyota Highlander is completely smashed and it makes driving and especially getting out of the car very uncomfortable (not even talking about the look and value of the 3 year old car). I noticed the problem almost a year ago, since then its been getting worse and I asked for the seat replacement last December, when the car was 2 years 8 months old and still under the full warranty. I went to the Desert Toyota and a manager there found my complaints reasonable and submitted a claim. We got a response from Toyota in about a month and they refused to replace or fix a seat under the warranty saying that its simply an outside influence. I believe that its ridiculous since I weigh 120lb and have less than 30,000 miles over those years. Moreover, this is my THIRD Toyota Highlander. Ive had the previous one for about 10 years and no problem with any of the seats with the same usage. Obviously something was wrong with that seat from the beginning and it should be replaced under the warranty.Otherwise, if its just normal wear and tear according to Toyota, what kind of garbage was it made from if it wont even last three years with average usage? Im not even talking about other minor issues that weve been having with that car. My previous Toyota started having more serious issues but only after about 7 years of usage. The first one was almost perfect. It looks like the quality of a Highlander is going down the drain. Definitely, its going to be the last Toyota that we buy.

I received my Toyota Yaris 2007 (sedan) as a Christmas gift while in High school in 2010. At the time it only had 26k miles on it, now it has 185k and shows no signs of giving out. Between high school, college, road trips, and long daily commutes, I have put this car through the wringer! Outside of routine oil changes, I haven’t had to spend much on maintenance. I have had to replace the belts a few times, brakes twice (first shop did it wrong and did not even replace nor check the rear brakes), and now it needs a new wheel bearing. I would say that’s pretty good for such a small car with high mileage. I am now looking for another car because I have a little one and the compact size does not agree with a growing toddler. But I won’t be trading in this car. I’ll be passing it down to my niece. Toyota really does prioritize dependability!

OK, at first I loved this car bought it used with only 29,000 miles on it. Its very attractive and pleasing to the eye. Love the Sea Glass Pearl color. Now, having driven it 15K+ miles, I feel it is important to share some observations. Great mileage, you bet. Easy maneuverability, yes. So what is the issue? Visibility!! It is poor. The back door split design stinks. The car is low and with the little mini windows in front of the regular windows, it is a challenge to see some things that a higher car with single windows allow for. If you bump into anything, you are talking a major repair as the entire bumper needs replacement. That costs almost $800. And, it has happened to me twice. Once backing up at dusk with a ships anchor in the dirt along the fence, not visible because of being too low. Second, hitting a part of a broken wall that, again, was not visible due to being too low. I AM a good driver in case youre wondering but my height and the cars proximity to the ground make it a quick victim of any really low edifice even parking concrete bumpers. I thought this was going to be great but the visibility has changed my mind. Other issue, the cockpit design with the raised storage between seats is very inconvenient. This was obviously designed by a man and not a woman. Toyotas in general are getting a bad rap since assemblage in the US of A. Used to be great cars. Id say try something else!

Well, it is a Toyota so I bought a 2019 Avalon XLE Hybrid primarily for its reliability. However, it has two major flaws. Firstly, it is supposed to provide 43 mpg, but actually it is a lot less. Currently, it is 34.6 mpg. Secondly, for a pretty luxurious car I expected it to have all the safety features for which Toyota is famous. Unfortunately, it turned out that it is missing Intelligent Clearance Sonar and Parking Assist. When I called Toyota and asked if these features could be installed, I was told that it was too complicated. Big disappointment.

Purchased a brand new Toyota 4Runner in 2016. At 64000 miles, just over warranty, it experienced a stuck lifter in the cylinder head. Leaked all the oil, and scored the piston walls. No check engine light, no low oil pressure alarm, nothing to signify anything was wrong with the vehicle. Toyota denied the warranty claim and now we are stuck with a 6600 bill to replace the engine. I have always been a toyota fan, have owned them all my life, but I will now be looking at other options. Beware, this could happen to you.

I called them up and complained about the dealership where I bought the car from. They pretty much told me I got a deal with them by myself to calling the dealer and solve the problem myself. I talked with Whitney and Randal my case # **. If they cannot help you why they are there for? Calling the dealership it’s like throwing the rocks on the wall. I did call. They never called back. This is how Toyota care about their customers. I would never ever buy another Toyota and I would never recommend a Toyota to anyone and I will tell everyone else stay away from Toyota dealers. I feel like like I’ve been discriminated by them because my accent in my language. I’m immigrant from Europe. They take it advantage on me because they thinking I don’t understand. Shame on you Toyota. Shame on you.

My car is under a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty! My grill has peeled off twice now, same issue. The first time Toyota replaced it. No problem! The second time it happened they refused to do so saying that it looked like an outside influence like a pressurized wand. Duhhh I take it thru the car wash!! Consumers need to be aware that if you take your car thru a regular car wash and their cheap grill peels then its not their responsibility. So disappointed with Toyota. After years of owning them definitely going to change that!!

I recently leased a 2017 Toyota Mirai. I intended on using this as a primary vehicle that I would use for work and for my family. I have 2 kids, 6 and 3 that require a car seat and booster seat. As a loyal Toyota customer, who has owned and leased 13 different Toyota or Lexuss in the past, I was very disappointed to learn about how hard it was to install car seats and access the latches and buckle seat belts when using car seats and boosters. Every Toyota vehicle that Ive been in, with the exception of the Mirai has a very easy to access latch system for installing car seats. I love it because this is something parents do not enjoy doing and when we need to do it, we are usually in a hurry. However, the Mirai, to my surprise is nearly impossible to install car seats. My wife tried for 20 minutes the first attempt and failed with tears in her eyes. In order to install the car seats you need to be strong and cram yourself into the backseat in order to get enough leverage to install the latches. It takes a lot of strength and practice in order to get these in. The second problem is once the booster is installed the seats arent wide enough and the fixed center counsel is in the way of being able to buckle the seat belt. My 6 year old cannot do it so I have jam my hand in the middle of the booster and the counsel and buckle the seat belt. It usually hurts but I have no choice. I have been very disappointed dealing with Toyota on this issue. They really DO NOT CARE about this problem. Obviously there is no fix to it so they basically tell me I need to live with it. However, for $536 per month, I spend a lot of money on a car that has a defect. I have begged Toyota for help. They have not offered any reasonable solution. They basically want me to go away and stop complaining but I feel as though, I spend a lot of money to get a car that does not performed the way it should. The design is terrible, this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed because I have to use it and Toyota just wants to keep taking my money while I have to suffer.

Toyota is a strong brand of vehicle. They have had recalls in the past but so has many others. Yet they continue to strive for the better. I have been taken good cared of by the company. For maintenance, you just have to find a good dealership or shop because that is where it can all go south! Which I have encountered recently. It can be bad when you are failed in that way. Parts do not have to always be factory parts for your vehicle to survive which will make it at times easier on the pocket. The overall conclusion is be a safe and careful driver. Dont fully depend on others to tell you if something is wrong with your vehicle. Check it often and you will have a happy vehicle!

After 500 miles of nice quiet motor started to notice slight ticking/rattle noise. The more miles that were driven the louder the noise /rattle become, especially when its cold. Pulled up to my bank drive-thru and they asked what the noise was and did I buy a diesel. Truck only has 2800 miles on it and already took it to 2 different Toyota dealers only for them to say that it was a high-pressure fuel pump and no way to fix it. Why if this is how its supposed to be was it such a nice quiet truck when I 1st bought it. Almost 3000 miles later and Im totally ashamed to drive it. If a fuel pump comes into my repair shop sounding like that I replace them and customer is happy. Ive owned Toyotas for over 20 years will never buy another one. Buyer Beware!

I did not have much money. I live off of a small amount every month and I needed something good on gas, reliable around town & easy to fix, cheap tags, cheap insurance. I really did not care what make or model I got as long as I got one that I could afford and would be dependable enough to get me around town. It was not too big and it was not too small. Everything worked on it and thats all that mattered. Ive had a good experience overall with 1976 Toyota. Its dependable for being 19 yrs old. I liked that it was cheap and it is cheap on gas. It is easy to fix. I like older cars cause it is easier to work on, the parts are cheaper and the parts are easier to take off and on. Cheap tires too. I got a really good deal. The person that sold it to me took payments off 50 a month.I liked that it had decent mileage on it for as old as it was. Comfortable, relaxing, not too big and not too small. Doesnt draw heat in the summer heats up fast too. But old radio, old windows, small trunk and no sunroof or car seat warmers and not automatic start. Also it gets off balance & shakes cause its so old and the alignment. But insurance is cheap on it and like how I have to shift gears & how smooth it shifts. Real nice experience.

My mother used my car (better mileage) to pick up my daughter and once they came my car was parked in the garage with the door closed. I never questioned to check since my mom usually does this task just fine. I know her memory isn’t as sharp as it was 5 years ago but at age 62 she is showing some decline in memory. Anyway, I luckily needed to put boxes away in the attached garage and that’s when I found my car running with the garage door down with keys inside. It had been running for over an hour. The only thing that kept me and my kids from suffering was the electric features on this car kept the car from using gas to create CO levels quickly. There was some CO released enough to give me a headache but it could have been a silent killer for my family that night as we weren’t planning on leaving the home for another 30 hours. I was just questioning last week why I still pay my higher car payment on a great mileage vehicle when I work from home but now I know why. I won’t be trading her in anytime soon... it saved me and my kids lives.

Bought a new Toyota Rav4 premium and once it got on the highway the cabin noise is just too much. I drive all the time and it sounds like air is getting in, I can assure no air is getting in the car. Just want to return the car. This car was bought less than 24hr ago as I write this complaint. The GM was suppose to meet with me but conveniently left and no one told me and left me at a table just sitting there waiting. The sales person I had been dealing with was really no help.Syed is his name. There is nothing they can do to fix the noise in the cabin of the car, it is what it is. But I shouldnt be stuck with a car I dont love. Customer service is about retention and not just money. Which is what it feels like it is. I need help returning the car. The gm Cody ** left knowing I was there to talk to him and didnt acknowledge me at any point. Quite frustrating to have the gm treat you like that when a consumer just purchased a vehicle. All they did was technically make me own the car longer today which I dont know if that matters or not. But if it does, then it was a very malicious move on their part. Again all I want is to return the car and buy something I love. Not something that isnt a great product for me. Not a single person pointed out the cabin noise to me directly and I find that to be reckless and predatory onto consumers.

Purchased my Tundra new in 2002. I cared for this truck inside and out except when it came to my rusted and unsafe frame. My truck is in excellent mechanical condition and I get a lot of compliments on its appearance. Everything works great with 107,000 miles logged. My mechanic says he probably will not be able to pass the truck for inspection within a year or so. His advise, get rid of it and trade it in. I usually like to sell my trucks outright but he says that I will create a bad situation to sell it to a friend or a private party. So, I have driven Toyota cars all my life and I really take care of them. There is nothing wrong with this truck! Because of the safety issue I will need to trade my vehicle (while I still can) on years before I should need to. Toyota claims there is nothing they can do and its my problem. Bottom line, I will never purchase or lease another Toyota vehicle and will let my children, friends and others know. Bad customer service! Toyota has lost a customer(s) for life. Penny wise and dollar foolish.

I bought a used 2006 Toyota RAV 4 for 1200 dollars. The miles were already getting up there but I could tell by the look of the car the previous owner had taken care of it. I have 4 kids who take every red cent to raise and this car was within my budget. But I thought if I got a year out of it to beat back and forth to work then it would serve its purpose. It would be a 1200 well spent. Id love to say that when I bought this car I took care of it just like the previous owner, but that would be a lie. I beat the car to hell, I didnt change the oil once in 4 years, not a filter or spark plug. I did nothing for this car the entire time I owned it except replace tires to pass inspection, replace wheel bearings, and put gas in it. This year I took it to be inspected and there is rust on the gas tank and other places and repairs would cost about 1000 dollars. I cant see spending 1000 dollars on a car that basically cost me as much. And there are over 375,000 miles on the thing now. But the engine is still going and the problems are all outside of it. I would love to see if I could hit half a million with this car and I think I probably could. Its a beast. And one of the best cars I have ever owned. Honestly I treated it so badly I dont know how its still running. But it is. Best car I have ever owned. Sadly I will be looking for a new beater for work as I cant doing the repairs makes any sense. But I would recommend this car to anyone.

It is with deep regret that after being a Toyota customer for numerous years and having owned over 10 of their vehicles that I am finally throwing in the towel and no longer buying their cars/trucks. Nothing but problems with my Highlander and Tundra and the company could care less. The brakes are constantly failing and numerous people I have spoken to are saying the same. It is my feeling that Toyota has become a bit like GM did years back and we all know how that turned out. Undoubtedly Toyota was once in my opinion the maker of fine cars but with several of the competitors stepping up more and more Toyota has lost their way. My family has purchased over $250,000 worth of Toyotas in the last few years and I would say we are done. No fault of the dealer as they tried to step up but the company did not and does not stand behind their vehicles. I always enjoyed the residual value of a Toyota but cannot in good conscience encourage anyone to now buy a Toyota product.

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius six months after I found out that the combination meter has a recall. Toyota won’t honor their recall because it is past their timeframe. It is obvious that this is a Toyota problem; however, they do not want to stand by their product and replace the faulty item. It will cost me 600+ dollars to fix it, they do not replace the part but take the original part out of your car replaced the capacitor’s and send it back to the customer. All of that for $600. I will have to be without a vehicle for two weeks. When it gets hot outside the combination meter fails. When it is cold it works.

It was a very cheap used car and hasnt given me any issues yet. Its excellent on gas & its a very nice and cute little car for being 18 years old. Fingers crossed! Toyotas tend to be made well & hold up longer and go many miles more than other models. And they hold their value really well. However, the radio is really old & it cannot connect to cell phone. Plus could be louder with better bass. Also the knob doesnt always work when turning volume.

Its a 2012, and Ive had it since then. It has never given me any problems outside of maintaining the normal course of use. Its reliable and uses regular gas which is a great savings! Great car. Its a good car for a woman or a single owner who will not be rough or abuse it. If handled well and maintained regularly, it will perform well and never let you down. I feel safe when Im driving it.

I recently purchased a new Toyota which the salesman failed on his part to get a correct 10 day payoff on my trade. Now that the deal is done, signed and a payment is being withdrawn from my new account they are harassing me for the balance of my payoff. We don’t carry our payoff of our vehicle in our pocket so I gave an estimate which he should have followed up with a 10 day payoff. Now I am receiving harassing phone calls and texts messages at my job on this. Legacy Toyota is very unprofessional and they don’t think of the buyer. All they want is numbers and don’t care at whose cost. This is going to end up with an attorney. I’m waiting to hear from Toyota on this matter. It was the worse purchase I have ever made and not speaking of the truck.

Went to my local dealer in San Luis Obispo after multiple hazard lights came on. The diagnosis: a failed inverter. The estimated cost: $5,000. The car has 96,000 miles, so it falls well within the warranty mileage. My problem: It is three months past the warranty expiration date. Looking on multiple chat boards, it seems that most inverter problems have to do with the coolant system. A friend who thoroughly knows cars, including Priuses, said it is very rare for inverters to fail altogether. Plus, the mileage isnt high enough. Dont know whether to trust the dealers diagnosis and plan to take it to a repair shop not affiliated with Toyota. Also, hope to get a reconditioned inverter if that is, in fact, the issue. Dont think Ill be buying any more Priuses, or Toyotas in general.

LC (Prado) seems still a reliable choice. Bought this in Switzerland, but all LC 150 are produced in Japan directly, so quality should be the same worldwide. That is the main reason for its reliability anyway. This facelift is so far (50000 KM) as well built as the predecessors. No problems whatsoever. The facelift overhaul got also rid of some design issues inside, like outdated looks and feel. Still Toyota and most Asian cars look a bit outdated (like 10 years back) inside compared to German cars for e.g., but the Toyota wasnt bought for superior gimmicks but for long lasting performance.Navigation is good, but a bit slow to pick up when booted. That is the only bad thing I could complain about. Missing functions: Smartphone integration does not have access to external antenna (shark-antenna only used for radio reception it seems) like even 10 year old premium Volkswagen/Audi/BMW/Mercedes etc do have. So your device will need to get out of the Faraday-cage inside the car, which deteriorates speech quality and introduced a lot of unnecessary EM-pollution to all passengers/driver easily exceeding exposure limits. This is true for all Toyota cars unfortunately. Also noise cancellation is inferior too...But this car shines with superior durability and offroad performance. Superior interleaving and 4 wheel drive. Excellent upgrade options. Only Range Rover Defender (useless for daily drive req. though) and G class Mercedes (overpriced) are a match of still produced cars. Engine is 2.8L Diesel with Toyota tuning to 200HP. In Europe Toyota is no longer selling the big LC 200 due to emission constraints.
