Preview: 2023 Subaru BRZ still a bargain despite base price rising to 29615

Given the rising prices pretty much everywhere, it's impressive to see you can still buy a rear-wheel-drive sports car for under 30 grand.

That's the case with the 2023 Subaru BRZ which is priced to start from $29,615, including a $1,020 destination charge. Subaru couldn't completely avoid cost pressures, though. The 2023 model is priced slightly higher than the 2022 model which started from $28,955 and was the first year for this generation of the BRZ.

The sub-$30,000 price tag for the 2023 BRZ is when equipped with the standard 6-speed manual. Opt for the available 6-speed automatic and you'll need to pay at least $31,115. We'll let that slide, too, as the manual is really the transmission to get, though the automatic isn't a bad choice, either.

As the BRZ was just redesigned last year, there isn't much in the way of changes. The sole powertrain remains a 2.4-liter flat-4 generating 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 mph time is six seconds with the manual and seven seconds with the automatic.

There's also a decent list of standard equipment including a Torsen limited-slip differential, LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and a stability control system with a track mode. Part of the digital instrument cluster includes a customizable meter that can display amps, coolant temperature or lateral g forces. When the track mode is selected, the tachometer switches from a conventional circular design to a linear graph.

An 8-inch infotainment screen is also standard. The infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, as well as a rear-view camera.

The 2023 BRZ goes on sale this summer. Pricing information for the car's 2023 Toyota GR86 twin hasn't been announced.

Terrible. Had an oil change. Next day my engine exploded on the highway. Police officer at the scene told me oil was leaking from my engine. The dealership took no responsibility and charged me $$$ for a new engine. Two miles after this repair, my check engine light came on. Then, two weeks after the repair there was oil leaking all over my driveway. Then my air conditioner stopped working. My car has been making a terrible rattling sound ever since. Every time I bring my car in Matt, in service says he cant hear the sound. I finally had to send him a video of the noise. I will NEVER buy a Subaru again.

The car is terrible -- poor construction, poor interior. Defect in the steering wheel, door panel. There was a scratch on the bumper that I showed the Service Dept. They said I did it when it was washed. It is not a scratch. It is a defect in the paint. They would not deal with my complaints. I called Subaru and trying to get them to be available is very difficult. I will never buy another Subaru again. These people who love their Subarus are blind or naive. If you damage one tire you need to buy 4 tires because of the symmetrical AWD. High maintenance.

I bought my 2014 Subaru Forester new, I even had to wait for them to make it. I was excited until driving home from work one day and my oil light comes on, so naturally I add a quart of oil. Then I have my oil changed and told them to put in an extra quart because of it using up a quart before my next oil change, but lo and behold the oil light came on again. I am so afraid that I am going to have major issues after I reach 100,000 miles. They have done 2 oil consumption test and they come back fine per the dealership. I dont understand how they come back fine and halfway through my oil change my oil light comes on.

Our vehicle is three years old, and we have replaced EVERY light (turning signal, headlights - high and low, running lights, all of them) on the front a min. of three times. There has to be something wrong, but the Subaru shop gives us some lame excuse like we got oil from our fingers on the bulb when changing it, even though we told them we were very careful and didnt. So we let them change the next one, and it didnt even last 5 months. I am ready to get rid of this car just because of the lights. I have driven cars before for ten years and never had to change a bulb and this one I change bulbs more often than I do windshield wipers.

Engine Failure on 2014 Subaru WRX w/ 14k miles - To preface, I bought my WRX brand-new, less than 12 months back (Nov 13) with only 7 miles. Since purchasing, I properly broke in the engine, have had it regularly serviced, & have not made any modifications to the car whatsoever. Over one month ago, I was driving along on the freeway (cruise controlled in the fast lane @ 75 mph) and the engine completely ceased on me w/ no notice or unusual sounds. After taking it in to the closest dealership, I found that the small block would need to be replaced & that the reqd engines are back order for OVER ONE MONTH. 5 and a half weeks later, Ive yet to receive my car back after numerous broken promises & have found further issues with my car, including unexpected damages to the pistons/rods & a potential need to replace my clutch (which would not be covered under my standard, or additionally purchased extended warranty). With all of the issues that Im having - Im starting to believe that maybe Im not the only one... Anyone else having similar problems? What should I do from here? HELP.

2017 Subaru Forrester (manual transmission): My oil light first came on at 3000 miles and I have been fighting Subaru for the past year to address the excessive oil consumption. Subaru lost a class action lawsuit for oil consumption problems and continues to sell cars without changing the design. I would not recommend a Subaru to anyone as you never know if you will buy a defective one. My passenger seatbelt alarm also goes off when no one is in it and the paint is pitting. Subaru lacks integrity and I will never buy another one.Updated on 07/18/2018: I write this with the sincere hope of preventing others from experiencing the same issue and stress that I have. Please research “Subaru oil consumption problems.” You will find Subaru lost a class action lawsuit, which was settled in 2016, but they still continue to produce and sell cars with oil consumption problems. I encourage you to visit several online consumer forums, like CarGurus, and read threads from real people with similar experiences. Subaru and Big Island Motors told me that those reviews dont count, as they cant be verified. You can verify this. I bought my 2017 MT Forrester in December of 2016 at Big Island Motors in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. My oil light first came on at 3000 miles, which began my 2+ yearlong battles with Subaru and Big Island Motors. I initially dealt with the service manager, who blamed my driving style, the weather/Hawaii, my commute, my lack of mechanical expertise, among other things, and refused to acknowledge the problem. After 6 months of fighting with the service center, in desperation, I contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (in the summer of 2017). He required the service center to conduct oil consumption tests. This process took about 6 months and many hours off of work for me. I failed 3 of them, which the service center said qualified me for a “new engine.” After they submitted the paperwork, this spring, I contacted them after 2 months of not hearing anything. I was informed/warned that I might have to wait for a year for the repairs as others were in front of me. Finding this unacceptable, I again contacted the VP of Subaru Hawaii (last week and a year later!). Initially he responded with concern, but then I heard from the service center that I needed to come for a compression test. Subaru generously provided me with a rental car for this test and, wait for it, the test was normal! The VP of Subaru informed me yesterday that he had forgotten that I drive from Kohala to Waimea every day and that downshifting is likely the reason why my car is consuming oil. I asked him why so many of the Subaru commercials showed people and their dogs camping in the mountains if they could only be driven on flat roads? My Honda, also a MT, used ZERO oil on the same commute. He further shared that I needed to keep driving my car since they don’t know what’s wrong with it (hello? class action lawsuit). He also retracted the promise of a new engine. In the meantime, I continue to add oil, purchased by the case from Costco. Check out “the Subaru Love Promise” on their website, “Subaru and its retailers believe in making the world a better place and the Subaru Love Promise is our vision of respecting all people. This is our promise to show love and respect to our customers and to work to make a positive impact in the world.” That is unless you have a problem with your car, then that Subaru Love Promise is not for you. If I can save just one person from experiencing the stress, additional expense and disappointment I have, this post will have been worth it. BTW, if Subaru had the customer service of Costco, there would be no other cars on the road. Costco lives the Love Promise.

It is a great all around vehicle. It is unique, all wheel drive, excellent gas mileage, very comfortable, really fun to drive, handles well, very durable and dependable. Also, it is only a four cylinder but had a lot of get up and go. Love the all wheel drive and the excellent gas mileage as well. However, it is on the small side and is not as easy as some cars to get in and out of. Sometimes the maintenance can be costly and timing belt change every 80,000 miles is a must as well.

We have a 2011 Subaru WRX STI, with roughly 67,000 miles. We experienced a timing belt failure on the freeway, in heavy traffic, and we were barely able to get the car off the road before it died. We had the car towed to a dealer, who wanted $9,000 to replace the engine. We decided to have the engine rebuilt by an independent Subaru shop for $4,900 instead. The recommended mileage for a timing belt change is 105,000. The dealer indicated that this is extremely rare and they recommended that we contact Subaru of America. I was on hold for almost 30 minutes before I gave up. Now I understand why Subaru has such crappy power train warranties...

Subaru 2010 Outback - Car has very severe whole car shaking on acceleration above 80 km per hour. Once gas pedal is fully depressed, the car may or may not accelerate making it impossible to avoid other cars on the highway. The car will shake enough to spill coffee, and will not stop until the gas pedal is depressed and revved. The car may or may not accelerate at this time, but the shaking is stopped. I was told that it was the way I drive the car.

I love my 2013 Subaru Impreza and had no issues up to now. I know Im part of a class action suit, and I reviewed it and saw it was not only for oil issues but also for CVT transmission problems. My car is 62,000 and Ive done all of the services. After my 60,000 check up, where everything checked out fine, I heard an odd grumbling noise and was told I needed a new transmission, which luckily is still under warranty. However, there are simply no parts available in all the USA and it could take weeks or months due to back order. I was told it was safe to drive, but I live alone and drive country roads and was told it could stop at some point. To me thats not safe. I find it unacceptable that a car so popular should have such a serious issue. Ive been in touch with the customer service hotline and someone keeps promising me hell try to expedite getting the part, but theres been no action. I cant even get a guesstimate. Ive been offered $500 for a rental car, but thats only 10 days and that will not even begin to cover that it could take weeks. So, its worthless right now until I can even get an estimated arrival date. Im beginning to think I need to trade in the car, but after this, not sure I want another Subaru. Buying a new car is hard work and Im not in the mood for all of that. I dont like driving around with a faulty major part of the car. Im disgusted and angry. Im going to write a letter to the Chief Operating Officer at their headquarters to see if I can get some action.

After finding out that the head gasket problems for the 2003 Subaru Outback had been fixed, we decided to purchase a used one. We have started having leaking HG and have tried talking to SOA about this, but they refuse to help us with the repairs. The fault is in their design and thus they should pay for these. I have also read on the internet where some people have been helped. This repair will cost us about $2,000! Also, seeing we are Subaru loyalist since 1984, they did/will not take that into consideration. Also, our younger son just got a new 2012 Subaru Legacy last year. Now is the time to decide to let go of Subaru and switch to another brand! Please do not buy a Subaru, as SOA will not stand behind their loyal customers!

Dealership found and identified several codes indicating the sporadic occurrences. Bob Baker Subaru Carlsbad CA refused to fix the problem, and stated we would have to bring the car in while it was experiencing the problem which would be almost impossible. The reason given was itemizing and comparing the risk to a potential flat tire and how much money the repair would cost them. So much for extended warranties.

I never had any problems with my Subaru 2007 Forester. However, one day, after I drove it 12 miles to work, 12 miles to go back home, 6 miles to park and ride my bike, and another 6 miles to go home--the next morning, it was broken. The dealership claims over heating and warped cylinder head--it never over heated, ever. It is costing me $3,587 to repair. Has this happened across Subarus? Should there be a recall on 2007 Foresters? Could it really not be covered under warranty? I keep my car in good condition, check the water and oil and I have proof of oil changes--the last one was 06 July 11. All this happened on 01 Sept 11. Can you help me?

We have a 2009 Outback. At approx. 70000 miles (just past warranty) a vibration was becoming noticeable from the drivetrain. The Subaru dealership said it was from bad boots on the front end. We had the work done. The vibration remained so we took the car to an independent shop. They said that it could be the transfer case. To really examine it the transmission has to be dropped. We scheduled the service. When they opened the case there were bits of metal in the fluid and it was clear something had failed. Approx. $2000 later we were on the road again. The head mechanic said he had seen several failures like this. I would like Subaru to face up to this reoccurring problem and cover all repairs..

This review only refers to the Service Department of Koeppel Subaru in Queens, NY because I purchased my Subaru in another state so I do not have any experience with their car sales. However, I generally do have good experience with Subaru dealership service centers so I was surprised that Koeppel felt like going to a mechanic shop instead. Online it appears that you can schedule a drop-off of your car but when I arrived they had no knowledge of the appointment. They hassled me about every point including the problem with the car, the price, why I didnt want to stay with the car when I had to go to work, why I didnt pick it up sooner, etc... It would have been fine if they had not followed up with an email about my complaints to continue to badger me and blame me for my bad experience. There was never once an apology.

I took my Subaru Impreza Outback Sport 2011 in for routine 45000 mi maintenance, for which I was charged $243.75. I was told the brakes all needed new pads, for which I was charged over $600. I was then told the battery needed to be replaced, for which I was charged $144. Then I was told I needed 4 new tires which would cost $900. I had just taken my car for routine service 3 months ago and was told that everything was fine. I believe that for all the additional charges I had to pay today, Subaru could have at least waived the $243.75 45,000 mile service fee. This car has awful tires - skinny lo-pros that should never be sold here in the Northeast, the pothole capital of the world. I wouldnt drive another Subaru again if they paid me a million dollars to do so. Unfortunately, even though I have paid off my car loan, I am stuck with this thing now that I have paid close to $3,000 for repairs. I bought this car from North End Subaru Mazda in Lunenburg, MA. If you go there, hang on to your wallets - they are definitely trying everything they can to steal from the customer!!!

I had this Impreza on March 2016, so far very disappointed. Compare with my last car Hyundai is not that good. First the painting is not a very good quality, the front lower paint is already had lots white spot, maybe in the rough road a bit damaged, but the Hyundai never like this and I had more than 8 years, just show the painting not very strong. Second the sound system sometimes not working, still display everything on screen, just not play, like dead computer, I have to restart it. And today I found my windscreen got a crack line, not really like a stone hit as the crack very even, maybe the original fitting is not good so sooner or later will cracking. Has late night purchase, gave finance manager $15000 cashiers check us and additional $2000 cash to get my monthly payment down below $400/month. After reviewing my paperwork couple days after, realize they added $1000 to my agreed purchase price. Before confronting Jay, salesperson, about this problem I went through my car details including the price he gave me. Two separate times he agreed with the price he had given me by phone on more than 3 occasions before I committed to purchase. This price was the original price Jay told me at the beginning. After he reconfirmed his and my price two additional times, I told him that I had given extra cash during financing and told him exactly $1000 added to my initial price. He hesitated, then said it was the changed figure. It was obvious he was covering for finance and Moe sales manager. So I gave Jay and Moe a week to come up with solution... Long story short they didnt. So contacted GM, Jobe **. He said he would find out info and get back to me... He didnt. Finally got him on phone week later and he told me he had talked to owners and he has good and favorable news for me, put me on hold so he could get my paperwork. After holding for short while, unidentified person came on phone asking if the could help me..(?) I told them I was holding for Jobe. That he had asked me to hold awaiting answer for my situation. Person, Moe, sales manager, said Jobe was in a meeting. That he wanted to know how he could help me(?) Not wanting to rehash again with someone who had previously refused to do anything for over 10 days after knowing of problem. Since then... I contacted Subaru of America for help communicating with Glendale Subaru, Jobe, GM because he refused on 3 separate occasions to take my phone call. Plus I called Lane ** general sales manager. He didnt return my call. I asked Moe, by email twice to relay the owners and GMs solution, but he and GM refused to return my call. Now he told corporate Customer service agent trying help me get info that the GM and Owners had decided. Its become obvious the GM put this $1000 cash fraud back on Moe... Because Moe, Glendale sales manager, refuses to relay this message. Seems likely he is directly involved in this late night fraudulent buying transaction. I would advise ANYONE looking to purchase a Subaru... I 1000% would never do business with Glendale Subaru!! They protect and cover for each other with dishonest transaction. From GM by washing his hands of the situation by not getting involved and leaving it up to his dishonest sales and finance department to get out of this situation alone. In my opinion, Jobe lacks a backbone because he refuses to talk to dissatisfied customers. Yet he blows smoke up peoples rear, by saying he and his dealership are honest and he wants to make thing right and wants to make sure THEIR customers are happy. The GM and THEIR sales staff at Glendale in my opinion are ripping off THEIR owners $$... Very very unhappy Glendale Subaru and Corporate Customers service for allowing this GM to say he is happy with his dealerships customer outreach (ha ha) towards me. Dismissing all my attempts to get him on phone and to complete telling me his owners good and favorable decision. Absolute appalling customer care and outreach. What a rotten egg dealership. Makes me wonder how much $$$ they have defrauded other customers. Ive consulted other car dealers, GMs and previous Subaru Dealership owners. They know exactly what happened. They told me its obvious the GM, Jobe, knows too. He doesnt want to write a check so he just told culprits, his finance and sales to handle the situation they created. BOTTOM LINE. This lack of customer care and outreach to take care of this issue. Receives 1 on scale of 10 for honesty and true care for all customers. I know now I was foolish to give Glendale Subaru any cash. Especially at last transaction of work night. That further explain why the finance manager stuck the cash $ in his pocket... Thought that was highly unusual.

I purchased a 2009 Outback 2.5XT manual transmission new. For the first 60,000 miles it was flawless. Shortly after the 60,000 mile service, the check engine light came on and the dealer said the rings in the #4 cylinder were stuck. The engine was removed and repaired. Approximately 3000 miles later the incident repeated itself. Once again the engine was removed and this time all of the rings were replaced (at my suggestion) and the valves ground. Shortly after that one of the air tube valves failed. Then a few thousand miles later both the NOX and oxygen sensors failed. Then at 73,000 miles the engine started knocking but no check engine light. At the bottom of the pan directly under the oil pump intake there is a large dent but no scratches or any sign of impact. The dealer says that the restricted oil flow resulting from the dent caused the connecting rod bearings to fail. I am a 78 year old engineering executive in Southern California. 90% of my driving is on the freeway, no off road, no dirt roads. I cannot believe a modern car can have these kinds of problems. This is my first experience with Subaru. Subaru paid for the first 2 overhauls but I have paid for the other repairs and am expected to pay for a new short block replacement.

I didnt mind the distance because I thought I had found a good deal on a vehicle that I could depend on and would last me a long time. In the beginning of being a proud Subaru owner, I had all of my maintenance done at Gurley Leep Subaru in Mishawaka. When I brought up the excessive oil consumption of my car, I was told it was common for Subaru to consume more oil. They would always try to sell me unrelated maintenance whenever I was there. Eventually I stopped going there because I simply didnt like them. I brought up my oil consumption again at the new mechanic. They did a consumption test. Eliminating other causes, they determined it was something internal and were unable to perform the repairs because they didnt have the special tools unique to Subaru. So I went back to Subaru Mishawaka with the information.I took my car in as soon as I figured out transportation while my car was in the shop for the day. A shuttle bus to town was the only option Subaru provided for me. I received the call with the expensive diagnosis. Fortunately, I had added an extended warranty on my car when I refinanced. They covered some of the work. A new cylinder head gasket was the primary diagnosis. This time-they had a courtesy car for me. The tech was also kind enough to call and ask me if I wanted them to replace my plugs, wires, timing belt, ball joints, etc. while they were at it. He told me it would only cost me parts and not labor because they were already in there doing work, youll have a whole new setup under there. I agreed. I asked him about my sway bars. He told me they were fine. Ironically, this is one of the parts they told me needed to be replaced when I was in for my oil change. When I got my car back, nothing seemed different. I contacted Subaru again- I was told (again) that oil consumption was common in Subaru. I had a check engine light come on, I took it back to Subaru Mishawaka. They hooked it up to the machine, and said my catalytic converter starting to go bad. This was not under warranty. They changed my headlight and I was on my way. I returned to my local mechanic for maintenance. My car was driving funny and the light came on. The machine indicated I had a bad plug. I explained that I had recently had them change. The mechanic told me that it was the original spark plug to the vehicle, according to him, there is a marking on them when they come off the assembly line. This threw up major flags for me. I decided to go the Subaru Portage (which is just over an hour drive) and pay to have them check the head gasket to see if it was even replaced.I explained my situation, oil consumption, etc. They determined the head gasket appeared to be new. I returned for them to diagnose my car. They found another $2000 worth of work that needed to be done in order to stop the excessive oil consumption. The tech replaced: oil pump, crank seal, a/c belt, idler pulley, time belt tensioner, and PVC valve. My warranty was out by this time. I pick my car. I dont even make it through an oil change cycle and my oil light is on. I check my oil- nothing on the dipstick. I call Subaru Portage right away. I add oil as directed/ take my car back. They find oil pressure sensor and leak behind Lh camshaft seal front cover. I asked why this wasnt fixed when my car was in there 3 weeks prior. They did the repairs. I pick my car up again and AGAIN my oil is extremely low- I, again, hadnt even made it through an oil change cycle. I called, and went back. The tech wanted to do another consumption test. He wanted me to contact him in 1200 miles. During this conversation he asked me, what color is your exhaust smoke? What? I have no idea. I dont look at the back of my car when Im driving. My car has been here 4 times, and youre asking me what color my smoke is. I didnt understand this. He told me that I would either need to get a new motor or a new car. He didnt tell me why.I called him once my oil started getting low, which was before the 1200 mile mark. He restated that I would need a new motor or new car- that I wasnt leaking oil, I was burning it. I informed him Of this the very time first took my car to Portage Subaru. He said the piston rings sometimes go bad on these things, allowing the oil the slip through. So all this money that I spent fixing around the problem, I should of spent to pay off my car. Instead I owe on a car that is worth nothing. Instead, I have a car that failed to be dependable and last a long time. I feel that I was completely taken advantage of by Subaru.

My girlfriend bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Subaru Outback from Kendall
My girlfriend bought a Certified Pre-Owned 2013 Subaru Outback from Kendall Subaru in Fairbanks in December of 2013. Within 1,000 miles of purchasing the vehicle the oil light came on. We brought the vehicle back to the dealer with the complaint of oil consumption. They told us that a quart of oil every 1,000 miles is Normal. But they would conduct an oil consumption test. Their test showed that the car was consuming a quart every 1,000 miles. Subsequently the oil light has come on 3 times. We called Kendall again and the service manager said this I did speak to one of the Subaru mechanics back there. And he said they are designed a bit differently from other vehicles. And he used the term the crankcase doesnt quite hold the same amount of oil as other vehicles. He compared it with the Toyota. So he said yes you would burn a little more oil faster because you just dont have the amount in the crankcase that other vehicles may have. When you come in I would ask the advisor to please let a mechanic explain it to you, because when he explained it to me it totally made sense. You have got to be kidding me? Do they think we are that stupid? I have the recording of the service representative on my phone. People need to hear this. We are talking a 2 year old car with 22,000 miles on it!

My engine all of a sudden started to sputter and shake. No lights came on and I pulled it into a parking spot immediately and shut it off. I then checked my oil and my level was so low it did not even read. I was exactly 3,000 miles from my last oil change. I then had two places check out my car before attempting to drive it home. I made it halfway and then had to call to get towed because my engine was giving out. I have had problems with my Subaru Forester 2010 in regards to the drivers side window getting stuck and not closing properly, the radio changes stations without any reason, the window washer fluid container leaking but leaving no trace a mile away after I refilled it, and finally the interior lights not working at all after a year of having the car. I am just very frustrated with this car and makes me wonder why I didnt chose a Honda when I had a choice and chance. Thought I was going for the safer and better car because it had a great track record. I will never choose a Subaru again.

I have a 2016 Legacy Premium 2.5 engine. I experienced a trembling being felt on the driver seat, floorboards and on the passenger seat. Ive had it in four times. This didnt happen last year when I bought the car and during the summer when using the A/C. Now this year when I use the a/c and the cooling fans go to high speed you feel this trembling. I went to the dealer for where I bought it and the mechanic said that that was normal. He even felt the trembling. He then said to switch to premium gas.I took it to another dealer and the mechanic felt the trembling also. He then said he would look into it. He called me back and said he sat in a similar 2016 Legacy and with the approx. same mileage and said it did the same. So he even said it was normal. If it is normal why didnt it do the same thing last year. Subaru of America said that there was nothing they could do because the mechanics said it was normal. It feels like you are sitting in a vibrating chair. They say it is normal then Subaru needs to fix this problem. What you pay for the car it should run smooth. I am very dissatisfied with the car and the service. There is something wrong with the fans or engine or trans. Does anyone have this issue.

Our 2010 Outback failed on a road trip in a cloud of smoke a few days and less than 1,000 miles after an oil change and 23-pt. inspection at the selling dealership. Were told the engine block would need replacement -- $5,200 -- and a $1,300 tear down to see what other engine parts would need replacement. With few options, in another city, we traded the remains on a 14 Forester. The Outback used immense quantities of oil; we began changing every 1,500-2000 miles and always carried oil because the light went on frequently. Dealers that checked said no biggie. Three times we had episodes where the idiot lights all went on, the Outback shuddered, had no power, etc. Bad plugs (after a dealer change) and perhaps briefly using hi-test gas were blamed. I think NHTSA needs to look at engine reliability.

When any bright light strikes the screen, it becomes almost impossible to view... Everything. Had replaced by dealer, but the problem returned. Dealer says its Common with this car. Is anyone else having this problem? Did anyone else get a fix? I can definitely say that this issue will STOP my wife and I from getting another Subaru.

In the first six months I owned my Outback (purchased new) my infotainment system failed and had to be replaced -- it took six weeks for the replacement to come in! I was without navigation, radio, Apple Car Play and rear back up camera. Six months after that and while on vacation, the Eye Sight system has failed leaving me without adaptive (or any kind of) cruise control, lane departure warning/correction, front crash warning and a few other Eye Sight features for which I paid a handsome price. This is far from the experience I expected from Subaru. I was confident in my decision to purchase this vehicle and I have to be honest - I have buyers remorse. I have to take the car into the dealership when I return home so I do not currently know what precisely the issue is with the Eye Sight system.

Our first Subaru was a 2009 Outback, and we loved it. It was a program car with about 10K miles on it when we got it, but had been owned by the state of NC DOT so was like new when we got it. The one problem we had throughout the life of it was the left headlight would not last; it would go out several times a year. Because of some other problems, some possibly a mechanics fault, that car caught fire and was totaled in 2013.We went back to the same dealer in Asheville NC and bought a new 2014 Forrester. From the beginning it had a lag when accelerating, as when one is passing another vehicle or when a potential problem has arisen and one needs to move fast to avoid a wreck. It was a consistent 6 second lag; after 6 seconds, the RPM would soar almost to the red line. I could literally count one thousand one, one thousand two etc. My husband took it back to the dealership and asked about it. Oh, everyone is complaining about that with this car, theres nothing to worry about. Umm, I do worry when my car wont move when I want it to! Ill also add at this point that my husband and I are both in our late 50s, and we are the only people who have ever driven this car, so we know how well it has been treated. In Februrary 2016 I left home, drove into town (10 miles), made two stops, the car was running smooth as butter. My third stop was at the car wash. I pulled up, told them what kind of wash I wanted, and I went into the lounge to wait. A few minutes later the guy came in and said, Your Subaru wont move. What?! I went out, cranked it, could put it in gear, but it was like it was in neutral. Could hear the motor revving, but nothing happened. There was no noise when it happened. There was no smell of anything burning, nothing. The emissions warning light was on.I had the car towed to our house (I needed to get back and get my other vehicle for an appointment), then later had it towed to a local garage, because the car was out from under warranty. He kept it a week, then called and said he couldnt figure out what it was, so he called the dealer we bought it from, and they said they thought it was the transmission. Paid to have it towed 70 miles to the dealer. After about a week, they called and said they couldnt figure it out, so they ran all the computer stuff and sent it to Subaru to find the problem. They determined it needed a new transmission. The Service guy told me when I picked it up that when they went to look in the transmission, all kinds of parts fell out, that the transmission had literally exploded. That was the word he used. Fortunately that was still covered under warranty, so it covered the $7K to repair it. When we finally got the car back we noticed the lag was gone! Now when I accelerate, the car actually does what its supposed to do! If you have that lag, insist that they check your transmission!

Purchased my 2017 Subaru Outback in May, 2017, and rear power liftgate has worked only intermittently since then. Dealer fix in June (Don Beyer Subaru, Alexandria VA) didnt help, and problem continues. Contacted Subaru USA about power liftgate problem, and they said that I had probably inadvertently disturbed the liftgate height control on the dash, and should fix it myself by consulting the Subaru manual, which I did, and the steps suggested in the manual again resulted in a continuation of the liftgate operating only intermittently, or not at all. This is not acceptable in a brand new vehicle. Subaru USAs answer shows that they are aware that there is a power liftgate switch problem and they dont have any corrective action, other than to fob off their problem on the unfortunate buyer. An inoperable rear liftgate is a massive inconvenience, since the rear storage/carrying area is rendered useless. Dont love a Subaru, will never purchase another or recommend to anyone.

It was a broken #4 piston ringland at 1,987 miles. The warranty was initially denied but after much fighting, was reimbursed for engine replacement as a goodwill gesture because Id bought 6 new Subarus in 4 years. At just over 9000 miles (or 7000 on the new engine), #4 piston ringland broke. I drove it to the dealership running poorly but was staying on top of the oil situation as the first motor had chugged its oil. Months later, I had to have the car finally flat-bedded home and it looked like itd been driven within an inch of its life before having the engine dismantled, then all the parts careless thrown into the car, destroying things like my radiator and intercooler and even the seats. Many fasteners were missing because theyd been simply left under the hood. The oil pan and oil filter was smashed as if engine had been dropped from a decent height.I fought with them over it for nearly a year as the car sat engineless in my garage, then finally filed suit when I was able to get the dealership to give me copies of the work orders, which were nothing short of blatant lies.I have filed suit and rather than step up and explain to a judge and jury how theyre not at fault for the second ruined engine (and Im far from the only person whos had this failure), theyre just delaying things by challenging venue, then getting a continuance on their venue challenge. The 08 STi (and reportedly other years, but the failure numbers are staggeringly high for the 08) is very simply a product Subaru is selling knowing full well it doesnt meet merchantability requirements and theyre just getting by as cheaply as they can until the warranties expire on them. I was a loyal customer, buying a new one every year until the 08 destroyed itself after only 2 months of ownership then again before itd reached 2 years. To say Subaru and especially Subaru of America is unscrupulous is a whopper of an understatement. And, sadly, its also not an understatement to say that the 08 completely changed my life, for the worse. It brought an abrupt end to a hobby (driving school instructor) that was the catharsis that enabled me to be the successful president of a rapidly-growing dotcom. When you are so egregiously victimized and disrespected by a company, the effects are far-reaching. Please, do not buy any 08-11 STi as their failure rate as a percentage of units sold is astronomical. But aside from a few of us squeaky wheels (and I may get crushed further in seeking justice, but I have to try), theyll be able to simply sweep this horrific ripping off of their customers under the rug because of it being such a comparatively low-production car, it likely wont have the absolute failure *quantities* to get the attention of any agency who can force them to do right by their customers.

2000 Legacy Brighton (Wagon). I brought this used for $5500 with 96,000 miles in 2010 or 2011. I currently have 201,800 miles. I did have a spark plug blow out. The mechanic used helicoil instead of replacing the head and it seems to be holding (wood-knock), fan relays failed once causing overheating. Just recently replaced a failed valve cover gasket (by myself in about 30 minutes). My hood release cable failed a while ago. Trunk latch is sticky now. The rear bonnet leaked until I replaced the entire rear deck lid. This used to cause the light sockets to fill with water during rains. I went through 3 light bulb wiring harnesses before replacement. Also, a victim of their infamous rear wheel well rust patterns. Ive replaced the exhaust once since Ive had it too. I love this car. Its quiet as a mouse and 100% beast in the snow. Im nervous about getting about getting another RU, as Ive seen some pretty negative reviews.

I bought a brand new Subaru Outback in 2005 and the engine completely faile
I bought a brand new Subaru Outback in 2005 and the engine completely failed at 51,000 miles out of nowhere in 2009. I fought Subaru on it for 3 months and they finally agreed to pay for the new engine. Now, after 3 years and 30,000 miles the engine has failed again! The car is only 7 years old and has had 2 complete engine failures. Subaru is telling me they cant do anything about it and they want $4000 to fix it, about twice what a local mechanic might quote.I spoke to my dads mechanic who has been working on cars in the same location in Palo Alto for more than 30 years (since before I was born.) He said that he wont work on Subaru engines because there is a major problem with them. They blow head gaskets and then Subaru tries to pin the failure on the mechanic or on the owner and it causes problems. Apparently, there are many mechanics here that wont touch them because Subaru legal is taking care of this engine problem. When I look online, there are dozens of sites about this Subaru engine problem, websites were hundreds of people have logged in and documented their head gasket failures at 30,000, 50,000, 70,000 miles. Way too soon for any engine to be failing. Subaru still denies theres a problem, but they redesigned the engine a few years ago and now its not failing in the new cars. Several folks have tried to put together class action lawsuits, but I dont think any of them have gone forward. Meanwhile, if you look on sites that give recommendations on buying used Subarus, they all say if youre going to buy one from roughly 1998-2006 with this particular engine, you need to make sure its failed once and had the major repair done. Otherwise, its not worth buying because it will fail soon. Thats crazy! From what I can tell - most people just go ahead and pay for the repair, some people get better deals, and a few actually get the repairs covered. It seems to depend entirely on how much of a fight you put up. A friend of my mothers has already had 2 new engines put in because of this problem in the first 80,000 miles, too, and he paid for them!My car is currently sitting at Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City, waiting to be worked on. It originally failed on Christmas Day. So, its been more than 2 weeks and nothing has been resolved. At this point, my goal is to get Subaru to buy the car back from me. Id be happy with Blue Book Value. I just dont want to deal with it anymore. And it breaks my heart because I love my car. But its given me 3 years of stress now, so Im done. Is there anything you can do to help me and other Subaru drivers? Thanks so much for your time.

There are no common sense option packages. Either the WRX comes with too few options or none. Big difference in lease rates from dealer to dealer. San Francisco Bay Area dealers are very inflexible but they talk a good game. I had one local dealer tell me they had the car then I went in and it did not have the one elusive option thats on the website: The Harman Kardon system. I had the Burlingame dealer hang up on me when I did not agree to purchase one in stock. He said “You need to order it” then quickly hung up before I said a thing. 2014 Forester with 35k miles. Our Bluetooth is not working properly. I thought this would be an easy fix, and I was not too stressed by it. In my error, I forgot to mention it to the service department when I brought the car in last time. Three months later I had the car in to the service dept. for a standard check up and mentioned it to them... The whole radio unit needs to be replaced in order for the failed Bluetooth to work again! If only I had mentioned it during my previous checkup it would have been covered under warranty. Subaru is charging over $500 for this replacement. I will go without. My chief question is, why is the Bluetooth failing? Its not that old and its not as if it is an item (i.e. brakes, or tires) that might get wear down from overuse. In addition, when you press the accelerator on the 2014 Forester, a small delay and then it takes off. Very disconcerting. We have many family members who own Subaru and at our last family reunion everyone was grumbling about their Subaru and saying they will not buy another. Its a shame. This was our first Subaru purchase after many years with Honda. We were tempted to try a new car and had heard such great things about the Subaru. We will be going back to Honda.

We bought a 2015 Outback 3.6R Limited while it was on the train to Dellenbach in Ft. Collins, CO in Dec of 2014. My wife drove all the way up there in the snow from Littleton to avoid the poor reputation dealerships in the metro area. My wifes father totalled our old car and I talked the wife out of buying the 4Runner we both truly wanted for something a little more economical. Our teenage son was still driving my moms old 1999 Impreza Outback with 330k on it, so reliability didnt seem to be as much of a factor as much as the safety. While we lived in CO, not many issues aside from a windshield that is paper thin and cracks if you spit on it and snow gets wedged in the wheel wells just as bad as the old Subaru. Then spring came and we started having issues with the rear lift gate. The not so friendly or helpful employees at a particular stealership on Arapahoe and Dry Creek were defensive and accusatory trying to say we had the memory set. Take it up there and get a recall on the ridiculous eyesight programming, just for them to tell us they cant duplicate the lift gate failure. Of course not! You just unhooked the battery which resets the system! We just put up with the occasional rear gate for a year, I keep the oil and filters fresh and we move to the heat of AZ. The rear gate has been getting worse to the point that it rarely ever works no matter what pattern or manual intervention you do. Now our rear gate is completely useless. The dealership in Chandler is great and has noticed the latching being brisk and misaligned. BUT of course, they cant do anything about it until their body shop opens. Enough. First Bru purchase from us but many in the family over the years, this will be the final. All of the others have been traded or sold, we cant wait to get out of this car as well. We dont care about the electronics or the gimmicks, we wanted a reliable and functional vehicle like we had with our Camry. We will be driving back to CO to sell this car where we can get a better price for it and go shopping. Toyota quality has degraded over the years, it looks like the influence by Toyota Motor Corp is starting to show in Subarus product lines. Too bad, we wanted to like this super ugly car, it is comfy, drives ok for a boring CVT and the mileage is amazing. Cheap parts, poor assembly and lack of customer service makes our Subaru feel like a Chevrolet. Love. Its what makes Subaru owners wish they had their old cars back.

When I found out the head gasket is going on my 2009 Subaru Legacy, extremely well maintained, and only 70,000 miles on it, I was stunned. After researching this, it has been a well-known problem for millions here and abroad, due to flawed (i.e., cheesy) design. This is an expensive repair!! I am wondering if anyone else is interested in a class action suit. I dont want to have to pay 3,000 for a new head gasket because the company skimped on design and materials. I am livid. If anyone is interested, let me know.

My 2002 WRX was recalled for a control arm. I brought it in on December 29, and as of January 26. It is still in the shop waiting on parts. Customer service gives dates of estimated arrival of parts, but they keep moving them up. My car is in the shop indefinitely. I love the car, which is why I want it back, but I would never go with Subaru again. How can they just keep your car indefinitely. This is unacceptable service!

On a random check of Subaru recalls I discovered the Takata Airbag recall for my 2010 Forester. I was not notified by Subaru until much later. After hearing nothing further from Subaru I called both SOA and the local dealership. They were either clueless or not interested, but in any case they knew nothing and told me Id hear from them at the first of the month. Two firsts of the month have come and gone and no word. All I have is their advice is to not let anyone ride in the passenger seat... Today I see that another recall has been issued for the Forester for a Turbocharger problem, but that info was provided by NHSTA, not SOA. The Forester has been an OK vehicle, but not great as far as cost to own is concerned. This Forester is my sixth Subaru. It will be my last.

CVT transmission failure. 9,597.70 plus tax for repair. Driving appx. 40 mph. Car shuddered, dash lights come on and car stalls. Took to dealer. Needs new transmission and torque converter. Car just past the extended warranty that Subaru offered. Subaru has known about this problem for some time... it is definitely a safety issue and the car should be recalled. Contacted Subaru headquarters with no success getting them to help with repair cost. Repairs should not cost as much as blue book value of car. I bought a Subaru because of years of hearing about their stellar reputation.

Bought a 2012 Forester for my daughter. When we took it in at the scheduled oil change, it was a quart low on oil. When I question how such a new car that was brought in at scheduled maintenance time could be that low or low at all on oil, I was told that the flat line engine uses more oil than a normal car and needed to be checked more frequently...???? Less than a year later, the starter starts to drag after the car sits all night. Told that new software ($100) had to be installed at my cost to correct the issue. Apparently, according to Subaru it is not considered abnormal for a relatively new Forester to develop this issue; however they have software you can buy to correct it...even though it is not an issue...REALLY?? Subaru thinks its customers are stupid. They got me this time, but it will be the LAST Subaru I buy.

I really believed that Subarus were reliable cars. I still owe $11,000 on my 2013 Legacy thats now worth $5,000 now and my transmission went. Since I have 121,000 miles on it, Im out of luck. Subaru is aware of issues they have with their CVT transmission and in 2017, extended their warranty to unlimited miles. That extension expired on 7/31/18. Their response is that they can offer me a $500 coupon off of a new car. I completely lost faith in them. I thought that my car would last until 300k miles at least.

I shopped for a year looking for the right SUV. My troubles with Subaru began with a Grand Junction Colorado dealer who would not deal with me unless I put down a $500.00 deposit. I moved on and bought a car through a local Chevy dealer who ordered from Heuberger in Colorado Springs. The Dealer put my husbands name on the paperwork when he never dealt with my husband but with me and when I called Subaru to change this, they said they could not so all my Subaru ID is under my husbands name (irritating). Next my under 1000 miles Forester lost the wheel well trim, the rest of the first year and three trips to various Subaru dealers the cruise control would not work because the check engine light was on. Finally the Salt Lake City Subaru informed me it was a computer program that only the regional representative has to reset this and maybe in the next 6 months he would get my way. Meanwhile the wheel well trim fell off again. Next thing, a rock flew up and hit the window which is not a new cars fault but it cracked all the way through and it was a $600.00 window! Finally a year and a half after owning the new car, I got the check engine fixed so I could use the cruise control. Very unhappy that the lights in the Forester do not turn off when you turn the car off. Many a night I would have to go out to the car to turn overhead lights off that someone had turned on in the back. I havent had to do that for 4 or 5 cars ago. The car is so noisy in the interior that the Bluetooth did not work. The phone sync is basically worthless since no one can hear you. The battery went out the second year I owned the car at basically 30,000.00 miles. I think the final thing that put me over the top was that the seats all started to crack on the sides where you sit and it folds a little. I dont know how to fix this except to stand while you are driving? I called Subaru one time because it was midnight and the vehicle steering wheel was locked. I remember my Ford once did that and there was a way to jerk the wheel, etc., etc. and it would unlock. I called for some directions and the Subaru roadside assistant had no information and the only thing she could do was call a tow truck from the closest Subaru dealer (200 miles away). By the way it was 20 below outside. I called the local Chevy dealer and he helped. From the time I first contacted Subaru to the time I got rid of this car, there is not a positive experience. Thus the name for Subaru is Super** or **rue and I will never waste my money again. It cost me to get rid of this piece of **. I am definitely not feeling the love!

Subarus Mr. Shiro Ohta, Chairman, President and CEO of Subaru Canada, disappoints and his public relations personnel fall short in customer relations. In October 2014, I purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback. If the automotive review reports are accurate, I should enjoy a few years of worry-free driving. Notwithstanding that possibility, I have already decided that I will never buy another Subaru product. My decision has nothing to do with the product but with the purchase experience and the failure of Subaru Canada to address what I believe is a legitimate concern. When I ordered the Subaru car I was informed to expect delivery by the end of December. At the time, I advised the sales person that I had a pre-planned trip in mid-January and that I required a vehicle for that date. I was assured that would not be a problem. Sometime during the latter part of November I contacted the dealership to inquire on the status of the vehicle and was informed that equipment supply issues could delay delivery, pushing the arrival of the car to mid-January. I proceeded to adjust travel plans by cancelling half the trip. By mid-January, I was now informed that a January delivery was unlikely with a new estimated date around the third week in Feb. Finding myself in the position of having to rent a car, I informed the dealership that I would be back home for the last week in February. On the third day away from home, I received an email indicating the vehicle had arrived. While the dealership did what they could and have no control over the timeline connected to vehicle production, Subaru Canada could offer nothing more than to say, after the fact, that it was normal to wait 4-5 months for a car, when the dealership indicated a 2-3 month time frame. Misinformation from my perspective. Subaru has been enjoying a tremendous growth in vehicle sales and perhaps their production capabilities cannot handle the demand. Thats understandable. What is not understandable, particularly in consideration of their increased profits, is how they could simply dismiss my concern regarding the extra costs I had to incur for the ongoing changes in delivery dates by offering a take it or leave it apology. When they could have offered to pay all or a portion of the car rental or maybe offer another year on the warranty or anything to retain customer satisfaction, they opted to offer nothing tangible. As an aside, I once saw a sign hanging from the ceiling in the garage area of a car dealership which referred to the golden rule. Rule #1. The customer is always right. Rule #2. If the customer is wrong, read rule #1.In spite of two letters, with one being a registered letter to Mr. Shiro Ohta, my communications have received only a dismissive response from someone referred to as a Specialist, Social Media Communications & Customer Experience. I have purchased many new vehicles over the years from several different manufacturers. The professional excellence associated with the purchase experience is no less important than the product itself. The Subaru brand has not lived up to my expectations in customer relations and for that reason I just purchased my first and last Subaru product.

I have a new 2017 Subaru Outback. The dealer has already replaced the radio/GPS hardware. But still the GPS is too slow to react to drive instructions. It tells you to exit a ramp after you pass the ramp. My wife noticed it too. You would think every company offering a GPS would have mastered a GPS system by now. After they replaced the unit, it is still too slow. Interior is very cheap too.

The car is very reliable and I have owned it for 6 years. I for the typical maintenance on the car and have had no additional problems. It drives very well and handles the snow well. After owning a car with cloth seats, I would consider leather. While the cloth cleans up well, its just not practical with kids and dogs. Its an older model and did not come with Bluetooth. It would be a nice benefit to have it. But price was a strong factor when choosing this car and it was affordable in comparison to competitors. I have a huge sunroof which I love. I love the large trunk space in my Forester and how the seats fold down flat in the back.

2015 WRX engine failure, 5600 miles - I have had my car about 4 months, leased as new car. On 4-18-15, engine light blinked on, I stopped car to check manual, it said to slow down reduce load on engine, and get to dealership ASAP, that was Saturday eve. Manual said it was ok to drive. I ran some close by errands Sunday. Took to dealership Monday AM. After a while, I was told that a plug had lost its tip and was misfiring... ok, quick fix. Wrong... service mgr informed me that there was a hole in the cylinder, that I would need a new engine. LUCKILY, under warranty. Down time 2-3 weeks. They rented me a car, they were very nice at the service dept. Hopefully no problems after this is fixed.

We service this car properly. Ive never had problems with Subarus and have been a loyal customer since 1994. So at 110,000 miles the six cylinder engine starts overheating erratically. A tow to Subaru dealer to replace the thermostat and were on our way. Two to three weeks later it happens again. We are provided a new thermostat under warranty installed at a different dealer (because we were on a long trip and were forced to tow the vehicle). Each time the claim was the thermostat was sticking. It happens again within a few weeks after we return home with yet another thermostat. $6,000 later we get resurfaced heads and a valve job, complete with all the marked-up engine components, supplies, disposal fees, and so on. Did we get a refund or credit on the supposed faulty thermostats? No. The servicing dealer proclaims there was an internal engine leak due to bad head gaskets. I asked to see them, but they were never given to me. Ive never heard of an engine failure of that gravity in a Subaru (unless of course the vehicle was abused). My wife babies this car and uses it for errands. I have a 1994 SVX with 140,000 miles, and had a 2002 Outback and neither had engine issues, ever. My confidence in the Subaru product is gradually waning.

Have had a 2010 Subaru outback for 3.5 years. Have done all required maintenance at subaru dealers. Had a gold plus” warranty for 1st 70k, sunroof stopped working at 71k, no love from Subaru. 1800 quoted for complete replacement of unit. 133k, took it to dealer for high pitch whine in front right. 2 hours later was informed that the cvt trans was failing and needed replacement, dealer quoted 7300 for a rebuilt from subaru or a used trans (salvage) for 3300. Warning: if you have a little old person driving a subaru with over 110k you might want to tell them that 7300 is not a good investment in a car with only 113k. These cars are supposedly supposed to last 250k or more (if you can afford these types of repairs) obviously I should have known that going in but I thought the new 2010-14 subies had all these great improvements. I have never towed anything and driven this outback anything other than gently, too bad loved the driving part, great on snow but can’t afford these types of repairs. Pleaded my case with North America Subaru, they would knock the 7300 down to 4200 at a subaru dealer. So that means the little old person would have been probably paid 7300 and I can see that happening. Short story is a tranny shop is going to put a used one in for 2500 parts and labor (friend of a friend). Maybe I just am not used to modern cars since my family has a camry with 198k and I had a tundra with 178k, 12 and 14 years old with no major mechanical repairs. Soon to be Subaru-free in the Midwest.

Can describe this car in two words: HATE IT. The driver seat is so uncomfortable Ive bought a cushion and even that doesnt help (aside from now pushing my head up against the ceiling). There is something in the seat bottom that pushes on the nerves right below my buttocks that make my butt and lower back scream in agony. Unfortunately on a test drive you dont find this out and sitting there for longer than 15-20 minutes it soon becomes very apparent. This makes being in the car torture. The other thing is the EyeSight. Great safety feature set but it is really super annoying to hear the damn car beep for one thing or another that it is warning you about. It does this constantly. You can turn off all of the features, but then why pay for this expensive option if you have to do this? They need to have a better way of informing the driver like Cadillac uses with a seat vibration. Also the window lock feature (a must with kids) is so ass-backwards. If you activate it, none of the window controls work including the drivers controls! You have to unlock it, do a window, then lock it again. Other cars the driver controls continue to work. So stupid. The Starlink feature is also convoluted and has so many apps and functions with menus and submenus that you need the EyeSight working because you cant drive and work the thing without seriously having an accident. Talk about distractions. And even though it is keyless entry and push-button start, it does not have a remote start function, not even as an option which extremely odd as pretty much every other manufacturer that has this type of system does this, and the door locks are from 1980 because you cannot program them for any option at all. They dont lock when in gear, they dont unlock when you turn off the motor, and they dont lock when you walk away. I am constantly leaving the car unlocked while driving and the places I drive thats a real safety issue. Remembering to do this on a car that is rich in features is a bit mind-boggling. I thought I was buying a good car, but after reading all the issues other Subaru owners are having I seriously want to dump this POS car tomorrow and Im not too impressed with the dealer because buying this new it took them 3 weeks to schedule me in to fix a fog light defect. Great way to welcome a new customer! So based on my experience and reading what others are going through I will never buy a Subaru again. Terrible, terrible car.

We purchased a new Subaru Outback in January, 2015. Since we have two other vehicles with excellent GPS systems, we were anxious to order the GPS package. From day one, the GPS system was difficult to use and had serious problems using voice recognition. We have taken it into the dealership numerous times and the problem was not rectified. Nothing happened until they admit there is a recall on this engine, but my VIN does not match?! Who cares about the VIN? Theres a known problem with the engine that even the GM says once its fixed, theres never another problem. I bought a brand new 2009 Subaru Forester with a 5-speed manual transmission. From day 1, I had problems getting into reverse. It got so bad, that at times, I could not even get into reverse. Complained many times to the dealer and their response was it was normal, nothing was wrong with the car or that it had to be broken in or it was me. I finally brought it into the dealer and they told me, that they would have to take apart the transmission and Subaru will inspect it. If they deem it to be customer abuse then I would have to pay $4000.00 to fix it. Of course I opted not to do it. But to make matters worse, the engine had no pick up. Dont Buy Subaru! I bought one, now I wish I hadnt. It wasnt until after the purchase that I realized that it was consuming oil. One day, a light came on the dash, which I learned was an Oil Level light, an Oil Level light! I checked the level and refilled the oil to the full mark, 2 1/2 quarts. I took it back to the dealer and what they had told me was that It was perfectly normal for a Subaru Outback to lose a quart every 1000 miles! This was not mentioned during the sales pitch or during the purchase; however if they had, I would not have bought the car! They recommended doing the Oil Consumption test, where you drive 1200 miles and return to the dealer four times. Yeah, a couple times it only took a half quart and it did take a quart. Well at the first attempt, my oil light came on while driving through the valley, so I had to add oil and that nullified the test and we had to start over again. Again they said that was normal and they wouldnt tell me why or how. I called Subaru of America and went back and forth with their customer service rep and she ended up hanging up on me. She did point to the owners manual, chapter/page where it did say to expect oil loss, as much as a quart every 1000 miles. Who reads a manual before a purchase? In my opinion, Subaru lied to me by means of omission. So any of you out there thinking of buying Subaru, dont do it. Ill be getting rid of this one soon and will never go Subaru again.

I purchased my 2013 Subaru Outback February 2013. I have servicing done regularly. However, from the very start, my oil light comes on between 2500 to 3000 miles after an oil change. I was told by the dealership that this is normal for these cars because they do not have as much oil as other cars. Told me to bring it in when it happened, or let the car sit for five minutes, and check the oil levels. This is great - Im a woman in my 70s - and it is scary to try to get to an exit when you are on the expressway and your oil light is on.Now, just to feel more secure, I keep a quart of synthetic oil in my car to add when Im on a trip and my oil light comes on. Very distressing. I had a Toyota Highlander for ten years, 210,000 miles on it and never had any problem like this. Unfortunately, it was totaled by a falling tree, and everyone encouraged me to get a Subaru. Nice car, but not truly reliable. After Subaru replaced the left caliper bracket with no results they set up new appointments with the factory field agent. Took a couple weeks but they re-looked at my rumble and confirmed it was still there. Using sound sensing device and several test drives they decided to replace the sway bar end links. The only thing they heard after that were the brake pads. This fixed my problem near the end of Jul 2015. But it is now Nov 2015 and the problem is back. Apparently, the brake disk pads float in the brackets with clips (according to Subaru service guys) and you will always hear some rumble. Well if that were true I would hear it on both sides, not just the left. So, back to Subaru service again. They had indicated to me a few months ago that because of the documentation to date, they would still honor further repairs with warranty even though my vehicle is now out of warranty. The issue is not resolved, but apparently this is the only way to update my review on this site.

In 2012, I was attempting to park in a space with my foot on brake when I heard a roaring noise from engine and car sped up a incline and hit a tree smashing front. It then careened backwards hitting another car and continued in a backwards drive hitting another car and then smashed into a brick wall and stopped. Police were amazed I was alive. Brought up case with Subaru who denied claim. Just discovered another owner in your comment who had same experience as I did. I am reopening this matter with Subaru.

This is the best car Ive ever owned. Although its an SUV, it rides very well - not hard like my Jeep Renegade did. Passengers in the back seat tell me it is very comfortable. I have the Limited model, so it has some great features like Subarus Eyesight. That feature is a game-changer for driving. I will never own another vehicle without that. I feel much safer since it keeps me from drifting into another lane, can brake quickly in an urgent situation and, best of all, driving on the highway with cruise control, the system adjusts your speed so that you never creep up too close to another vehicle. Its a must have for long distance driving. I love the fact its all wheel drive. I feel much safer driving in rain and snow. Traction is awesome.Im super happy with my gas mileage, too. Average driving around town is usually upper 20s. On the highway, its always in the mid to upper 30s. I tested it one time on an open flat interstate -- no hills, steady speed of 63 mph with the AC on. The computer readout showed 44 mpg. Ive compared the computer read-out to the old-fashioned way to determining mpgs and its usually off by about 3. That means I got over 40 mpg with the Crosstrek! The Crosstrek has a CVT transmission (continuously variable, not gears) and, although a good number of people in Crosstrek social media groups complain about it, Ive never had an issue. Its smooth and even feels like a regular automatic. The other typical complaint is that the engine doesnt have enough power. Is it the fastest car Ive ever driven? No. Does it have incredible pickup? No. But it gets the job done. Ive never had an issue, for example, pulling out onto a highway. Overall, 5 stars for this vehicle.

I just bought a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek and have only had it for 2 months. I was driving on the freeway going about 65mph when my Crosstrek felt like I had no control of the wheel, it felt like the wheels lost grip to the road. I slowed down and it corrected itself within seconds. I thought, Wow that was strange. I was on the bluetooth with my husband and he told me to pull off and see if the tires were low or flat. I did no problem with the tires. He drove it when I got home and it felt fine. We just thought maybe something on the road. Car drove fine for a while then 3 weeks later I was driving down the highway in the desert area and the wind hit my car and my car starting swirling all over the road. I held on to the wheel and slowed down. It corrected itself and continue to drive fine. I thought, Well maybe this is how suvs drive. Last weekend we were almost killed in this car. We were coming back from our cabin going 40mph in a 50mph zone when the wind hit my car and cause it to go out of control. The wheels were not griping the road correctly and we started to slide we could not correct the car. The steering wheel was not responding it would not do anything! We went over the embankment about 20 feet down and rolled about 4 to 5 times before coming to a stop upside down. We survived but are pretty sore and banged up. Please if anyone is having steering problems with your Subaru take it back!! I feel that this car had a defect in the steering system or the AWD system. Unfortunately, since I was not hurt bad no one will investigate to see if this car had a problem!! Please be careful, I dont want anyone else to go through what we just went through!

I have never had a Subaru where every month or every other month I need bulbs replaced. I just had it in for inspection and there were 3 bulbs to be replaced. Not feeling excited about owning a Subaru. I have owned two others and they were great vehicles. Makes me want to trade it in... Worse Subaru I have ever owned.

Our 2016 Subaru Outback seems like it is possessed. On Monday, July 27, 201
Our 2016 Subaru Outback seems like it is possessed. On Monday, July 27, 2016, we were parked at a restaurant when our daughters noticed the rear liftgate opening on its own. At the time, the only people with the keys to the locked vehicle were me and my wife, who were both 75 yards away inside the restaurant. Neither of us was handling our remote keys. It seems highly unlikely either of us accidentally hit the remote button.Since we were staying at a hotel, I disconnected the battery so that the liftgate would not open overnight. Once I reconnected the battery, a whole host of other electronic issues started. Half of the readouts on the dash intermittently stopped working. They were the information display between the tachometer and speedometer, the readouts associated with the air conditioner and the map display and GPS. The clock, which worked when reconnecting the battery, then was stuck at 9:19 a.m. The right front remote window control only worked from the passenger side, not the drivers side. So, we drove straight to our destination three states away, not stopping or turning off the car since it had taken three seconds to start after battery reconnection. I was unsure if the car would restart again. We drove to the Subaru dealer in Normal, Illinois. As expected, the problems cleared up as soon as we hit the dealership service bay. The dealer spent a hour wiggling wires under the dash and driving over bumps along with putting it on a code reader. We got a PNF--Problem Not Found-- diagnosis and we left the dealership very disappointed. I parked the car two miles away, went into the house and returned five minutes later to find the liftgate again open wide. At that point, I abandoned the remote-entry key and used the key that did not have any remote features. Unfortunately, once I unlocked the door, the car alarm began honking and was only silenced after starting the car.At this point I am considering selling our Subaru with only 3,000 miles on it. We have already endured a painful recall of its steering column and now this liftgate issue. I have zero confidence in Subaru and this vehicle keeping my family safe. I am writing this only to alert other Subaru owners who may experience similar problems in the future. Maybe I can trigger a similar national recall as the Subaru owner who had the steering defect.

I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle, 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV hybrid,
I purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle, 2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV hybrid, from Subaru of Orange Park 06/26/2016. The vehicle had less than 30k miles at purchase. Less than 4 months from purchase date, the hybrid system / engine went out on the vehicle. As I was driving on the highway, the system told me to “Pull Over to Safety and Turn Off Engine”. Subaru of Orange Park was unable to diagnose or service. Upon research I find that after two years of hybrid makes, Subaru no longer manufactures hybrid vehicles because of the KNOWN technical issues that deemed unprofitable to the manufacturer. I had to have the car transported to a further Subaru location that services hybrids because hybrid technicians are sparse; I can only imagine how sparse they will be 2 years from now. The servicing dealer had to fly in an expert to diagnose. My car was in shop for 7 days. The extended warranty that I PURCHASED covered the repair, outside of a deductible, towing, and car rental. Without the warranty, the cost is estimated at $1,556. Based on research, the system is anticipated to crash every 30-40k miles. Due to faulty manufacturing, the value and longevity of my vehicle has diminished. When I contacted the manufacturer, they asked me to deal directly with the dealership, so I did. I noticed the Certified Pre-Owned checklist has a ? in the hybrid section. The dealer was not authorized to sell me a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle with items on the checklist not accounted for, especially the engine. Post-repair, I discovered the hybrid system was not functioning at the time of purchase. Originally, the dealer told me theyd work out a satisfactory solution with me. However, I called today and was informed that they will not support an even trade. My option is to buy up to another vehicle, which I cannot afford, nor do I desire to lose $1823 in additional warranties that I purchased at the time of vehicle. This is not acceptable to me. The vehicle is not safe nor reliable, and the value is going to plummet as reliability becomes known and maintenance becomes extinct.

Now the dealership has says it will get better the long we own it!! We would like to file a lawsuit against Subaru and the dealership for false advertising this product. It does not get Nowhere what they are advertising. Maybe we bought a bad one. If so we would try another Subaru.

I like my dealer. I like my 2007 Forester which we bought new. Yesterday, after I spent $1500 for my 120,000 checkup, I was told I needed head gaskets for between $2800 and $3500. I read about the problem for a solid day. I was offered a new engine installed for $5500, which if I thought would SOLVE the problem I would do. I spent a couple of hours under the car yesterday trying to find the leak. I found other leaks which I took pictures of, but not the head gasket. I am talking to a local non-dealer well respected mechanic who will also look at my car next week. I am disappointed with the problem and my dealership’s inability to install Star Six head gaskets which some believe are superior and solve the problem. I will support a class action lawsuit.

Purchased a new Outback in April 2016. Noticed the GPS map was from Q3 2014, so I asked the salesman if it could be updated. The salesman checked with the service department and told me that it could be updated by the service department just as soon as an update was available...but an update was not available at that time. A few months later after moving to another state, I asked Subaru Customer Service if my map could be updated. They informed me that the Subaru policy would not allow me to get an update before I owned the Outback for 12 months. So my map would be almost three years old before I could get it updated by a Subaru service department. I wasted much too much time sending emails to them attempting to get an update approved and after too many...I gave up and was lucky enough to find a way to update it myself.

First of all, I love my Subaru Crosstrek. Since it is an all terrain vehicle I was surprised to hear the vibrating and rattling in the unit. Subaru replaced the unit once, but unfortunately the rattling noise came back. Wondering if anything else can be done with the unit to stop the noise. It even rattles on the open highways. Please let me know.

We took it in because it was whining and had lost power. I had checked the engine oil the night before and it was at the right level. First off never buy anything from Lees Summit Subaru. They scratched up a fender detailing the Forester and it was a pathetic detail job. When they looked at the Forester they said it was a quart low on oil and the reason it was probably whining and the loss of power was a blown turbo. They said my extended Subaru warranty wouldnt cover the repair because it was a quart low on oil even though I said it was fine on oil the night before. I called around to a few Subaru dealerships service departments and was told even if it was a quart low on oil that wouldnt cause the turbo to fail. They said the reason for the turbo failure was probably a clogged banjo filter in the turbo line.Since Subaru wouldnt cover it even though there was no mention of a banjo filter in any of the manuals they gave me, it doesnt even show the banjo filter on any of the diagrams. So I learned 4 things: 1. Never buy a Subaru; 2. Never buy anything from Lees Summit Subaru. Every time I had to deal with them they didnt care and it was a nightmare. The only pretty much they managed to do right is take my money and screw us over; 3. Dont bother buying a Subaru extended warranty because it probably wont help as far as theyre concerned. 4. Dont trust the manuals, go to Subaru.org to see whats really going on. At least Ive talked people out of buying Subarus! I hate Subaru. I hope they go bankrupt!

It has always been at least a two week wait for an appointment. Now its 30 days. Really??? I was also given the option of just leaving my car there for a week. They might get to it per the person answering the phone. I purchased an extended warranty which is about to run out. Now all of a sudden my headlight wont come on. I took to a mechanic and he tests and determines its the switch which is over $200. He says it should be under warranty. I cannot get an appointment earlier than 30 days. I travel a lot and consider this to be dangerous. Are the low beams going to go out too? Who knows, I dont. Also had a recall on the wiper motors which I cannot get serviced either. 30 days is a ridiculous time to wait for service. Especially on things that can cause you harm or injury if they go out.Whats going on? You sell us this stuff and you cannot deliver. Oh I was also told I could take it to the next county which is 40 mins away. What kind of service is this, anyway. The solution. If your auto has problems and you dont have enough mechanics to deal with the volume of customers, then Subaru needs to pay the person I get to repair it. I think that is fair. Is there a recall on the turn signal light switch? My vehicle is a 2012. Never owned a car that had so many dangerous problems so quick. My car now has 50K miles. What am I to expect in the future?? I thought this was a well put together vehicle. Im beginning to wonder. Not being able to have the vehicle serviced in a reasonable period of time is not acceptable to me, and Im sure not to any owner. So, I await your reply for my solution since your service dept. cannot help me. I live in Asheville, NC.

Bought the car at 35 thousand miles - have a warranty that says purchased as of mile on and 72 months so I bought it in 2012. 72 months is not up but lo and behold, it is cause it goes back to 2009 which we were not told and have the extended part of the warranty but still up, and I have barely 70 thousand miles on it. Great job Subaru. You know that this is going to happen but yet I paid over 17 thousand for this car. Will never buy another car from you nor will I recommend anyone else. I have owned a lot of cars in my life but this is the worst.

Extremely disappointed. I purchased a 2010 Subaru Forester from Bloomington in October of 2020 for nearly $9,000. 9 months later it broke down on the road and requires an engine replacement. I spoke with the manager and was told Sometimes used cars break down. Theres nothing we can do. I emailed Subaru directly and received no reply. There are no laws to protect consumers from faulty used vehicles, but good customer service, I think, dictates a $9k vehicle should last more than 9 months. I will not be going back to Bloomington Subaru nor will I ever purchase a Subaru of any kind.

Bought a 2009 Subaru Forester XT with 40000 miles. Was good till about 50000. First was a camshaft position sensor which I got SOA to pay for after some heated discussion. Next came a blown turbo - no help from my dealer, Patriot Subaru, or SOA. Cost $400 - did work myself. Now 2000 miles later, the car sits with a blown motor. Once again, no help from Patriot or SOA. They had the nerve to offer me a $500 credit toward a new Subaru like Ill buy another one not to mention I owe $15,000 on the POS! Dont buy Subaru!

I purchased a 2009 Forester XT in April of 2008. Three days after purchase, Subaru announced a stop sale order on turbo Foresters made after Jan 1, 2008 (mine was mfg Jan 26th 2008). They issued the stop sale order because of manufacturing defects in the engine that led to knocking and then catastrophic engine failure. My car had knocking at 1030 miles and now at 92K the engine has had the catastrophic engine failure. Subaru refuses to answer the question if my car was affected by the stop sell order and takes no responsibility for repairing my car.

Very briefly. Loading suitcases on the roof basket on my 2013 SUBARU OUTBACK, I had to climb on the back edge of the roof, where I rested on my knees, and I even put a folded towel as to distribute the pressure. To no avail, the roof still gave up and got slightly bent. I am not a heavy individual at less than 180 Lbs. This particular model comes equipped with rails to allow the installation of roof baskets, and unless they expect that you load it from a ladder, the roof should have more strength. I can tap dance on my 98 NISSAN Pathfinder and the roof will not bend. I reported to SUBARU headquarters and they have declined any responsibility.

Blind spot sensor not functioning. Has been at Subaru Superstore in Chandler, Arizona for one week. Service manager returned my call claiming to know nothing about a car they had in their shop for a week and were either unwilling or unable to fix. Found out through a third party (if you can believe that?) that they have decided to order a new sensor but are not certain that will fix the issue. The car has only 3,000 miles and the dealer seems disinterested. Also, Subaru Corporate Customer Service has not even acknowledged my complaint.
