Cars With Pop-Up Headlights: A Definitive Guide To The Legends
Posted On: November 27, 2022

Classic cars become classic cars for a reason. Technology moves on, whether it's engineering improvements or guided by legislation.

In the case of cars with pop-up (hidden until needed) headlights, they are a thing of the past due to pedestrian safety. Still, some of those cars are still out there, and pop-up headlights are cool. They allow the car's front end to be as characterful and aerodynamic as the designers wanted, and making headlights go up and down satisfies everyone's inner child.

Despite the pop-up headlight's heyday being the 1980s and 1990s, they've been around since the 1930s. The first car with pop-up headlights was the 1936 Cord 810, using the system to hide its big gawky headlights when not in use. They became fashionable due to being futuristic, and by the 1970s and 1980s, pop-up headlights were mostly found on sports cars.

Unfortunately, there are no mainstream new cars on sale with pop-up headlights. They aren't banned outright, but safety legislation on how the front of vehicles reacts to impacts has made designing and building them into a car an engineering nightmare in most major car markets. While there are a lot of old cars with pop-up headlights, we're going to concentrate on the most popular vehicles that achieved legendary status. These are the best cars with pop-up headlights. Mazda MX-5rnA Mazda Miata with pop-up headlights is still a wonderful sight on the road. The term iconic gets thrown around a lot in car circles, but the first-generation MX-5 is a legitimate icon.

When down, the retractable lights allow the pointed nose to improve aerodynamics; when up, they add a clear pair of eyes to the Miata's face.

It launched as a 1990 model in 1989 and lasted until it was phased out in 1997. The second generation didn't feature pop-up headlights, as laws had changed in enough countries to make them unsustainable. Mazda RX-7rnThe first generation 1978 RX-7 was introduced with retractable headlights, but the third generation RX7 pop-up headlights cemented themselves in pop culture.

Its sleek styling holds up on the road today and is the cherry on top of its sequential twin-turbocharged rotary engine and agile handling. Mazda and its customers paid the price for the FD generation as its dimensions didn't fit Japanese regulations, which moved it into the luxury sports car bracket.

It was produced between 1992 and 1995, and with only 1,152 official examples sold in Europe and a limited amount coming to the US, it's a rarer car than you would think. C5 Generation CorvetternBoth the Mazda's above are now subject to the collector, tuner, and drifting tax- meaning, they're expensive if you want to buy one in good condition.

The C5 generation Corvette will get there, but for now, it's reasonably priced in the used market and has been an underrated Corvette for so long. But people are finally realizing how good the sports car produced between 1984 and 1996 is.

However, it's not the only Corvette with pop-up headlights. The second generation (C2: 1963-1967) and third generation (C3: 1968-1982) also have retractable lights. While both older generations are highly collectible, the C5 is streets ahead of both in performance.

It's also noticeable as the Corvette, and Lotus Esprit V8 are the last cars with pop-up headlights. By the end of 2004, it was all over. Toyota AE86 CorollarnWhile Honda embraced the pop-up headlight on other types of vehicles, Toyota mostly stuck to sports cars.

The MK III generation of Supra had its headlights hidden until needed, as did both generations of the mid-engined MR2. Still, the most legendary Toyota with pop-up headlights is the AE86 Corolla. Its worldwide popularity comes from being the hero car in the iconic Japanese drifting anime, Initial D. It made it onto the screen because it was a low-key yet beautifully balanced rear-wheel-drive, lightweight, compact car driven by Japan's most prominent drifters.

Toyota moved entirely away from the Corolla having a rear-wheel-drive configuration, leaving the AE86 model as one of the most desirable JDM cars with pop-up headlights despite being a Toyota Corolla. Nissan 300ZXrnThere are only a few Nissan cars with pop-up headlights, and the first-generation 300ZX is the most desirable.

It was sold in the US from 1984 to 1996 and was considered slightly more upmarket than the 240/260/280 Z cars. The 300ZX pop-up headlights were a little different from other cars in that when they were down, the lamps weren't completely hidden.

However, it allowed them to sit lower in the sloping front of the car. If you're wondering about the GT-R, there's a reason Nissan avoids the technology. BMW M1rnThere are two BMWs with pop-up headlights. The BMW 8-Series that appeared in 1981 is one, and the crazy BMW M1 is the other.

It's a crazy car because it was plagued by disaster, most notably because Lamborghini promised to build it but was too broke to follow through on its promise.

It's also BMW's only supercar and ended up as the flagship in one-car race series that ran as a warm-up during Formula 1 weekend. It eventually made it onto the road but is an incredibly rare bird to see. If one does come up for sale, it usually fetches six figures. Porsche 944rnWeirdly, the Porsche 944 is one of the cheap cars with pop-up headlights on this list.

That's because it's a long way down the list of best Porsches, hasn't aged well in design, and isn't popular with tuners as it's expensive to maintain and the aftermarket is weak. However, if you want a Porsche with pop-up headlights, this is it, and it's an underrated sports car if you can stomach the cost of ownership.

It's also hip with the Radwood crowd as a piece of vintage 1980s automobilia. It is easier to work on than a rear- or mid-engined Porsche, as the four-cylinder engine is in the front. Ferrari F40rnOne of the quintessential '80s cars with pop-up headlights is Ferrari's iconic F40. A total of 1,315 cars were produced from 1987 to 1992. Its rarity and prestige make it the most expensive car on this list.

Formula 1 driver Nigel Mansell sold his in 1990 for a million dollars, and later models now sell for twice that. It was a technological marvel in the 1980s that leaned into Formula 1 technology.

The F40 is also widely known as the last car Enzo Ferrari signed off on before his death in 1988. Honda NSXrnBecause the brand is keen for people to know it injects sporty driving dynamics into all of its cars, you can find quite a few Hondas with pop-up headlights.

The best car Honda made with pop-up headlights, though, is the first-generation NSX. That's not all the NSX has in common with the Ferrari F40. It was also a supercar with technology usually found in Formula 1 cars, its production years overlapped, and race car drivers owned them.

However, the NSX was, by design, a lot cheaper yet still aimed to compete with supercars. And it succeeded. Honda had the Ferrari 328 and then 428 in mind and built a quicker equivalent with a smaller engine - a V6 versus a V8. In 2001, the NSX got a facelift and dropped the pop-up headlights. If you've wondered what the second-generation NSX would look like with pop-up headlights, someone has had a crack at it.

Chevrolet Trax AWD. Great value for the money and it does surprisingly well for a sub compact suv in inclement weather. For the size it is a very comfortable ride for 4 people as well as still having enough storage space for vacations or shopping.

Im really pleased with my Equinox. Drives GREAT. Good gas mileage. Zero things to dislike about the car. Buying it, and dealing with Chevrolet has not been satisfactory. Problem 1: Chevrolet wants to sell On-Star. Fine. I dont want it. Eventually, On-Star called me one day when I started the car. I couldt shut it off. Chevy was broadcasting an add into my car, without my consent. I was so mad. They got me to press the button. I tried to be nice to the operator. But, told them no, and dont do that again. And, yes, someone can contact me about this. No one every has done so. Bottom line: Chevy could not PAY ME to own On-Star. (Ive designed electronics for 40 years. I bet I can disconnect the antenna).Problem 2: I love the multi-media center. But occasionally, they lock it up with a text message. It is a warning that I should not look at the screen while driving. And, I must acknowledge by pressing OK to release the screen. How hypocritical that I should read, and acknowledge a long text before the screen functions. I would like to punch the attorney whose idea this is in the nose, and then in the groin (hypothetically, of course). That is a piece of software that is broken!

I would purchase the 2012 Chevrolet HHR LT again but they no longer make this model. Midsize SUV with a lot of room in the back. I have almost 89k miles and not one ounce of trouble. Very comfortable car and easily seats five people. Excellent gas usage and uses regular and flex. Comfortable leg room for long distance driving. Like the style and a way of staying in the SUV. Also had an Explorer Sport at the same time, but chose to use this most often. Tried Kia Soul, Ford Escape, Jeep and Chrysler Sebring. I was amazed at the power this Chevrolets 4 cylinder car had and its ease of getting in and out. I would have preferred the gas tank be on the drivers side though and the rear window wiper control higher up on the dash, although I didnt use it often.

Ive been driving trucks for 15 years and the last 9 Ive had a GMC. I loved that truck and when the transmission started to go I decided to buy a new Chevrolet. I decided to buy a Chevy. The truck was dropped of to me by someone at the dealership and had 300 miles on it most of witch from the drive to my house. From the moment I took my first drive (after I already owned it) it was shaking. It always shakes but sometimes its really bad and dangerous. I told the dealership right away and they fed me a lot of lies. They 100% agree its shaking but wont fix it or do anything for me. They changed my tires and my truck drove worse than before. I filed 2 claims with Chevy. One asking for a buy back and they denied my claim. Also one for some kind of trade assistance and they offered me $1,500.00. This truck has had other issues since I got it. The check engine light has come on twice and had to be turned off by the dealer. Also the steering wheel tilts to the left even after being aligned multiple times. I would not suggest buying a Chevy. Not only are they not good quality. Chevy does not stand by their products and warrantys. This had been a terrible experience and its nowhere near over.

My Chevrolet SUV is dependable and its a great brand. I dont have problems with it and I havent had to change many parts. Theres plenty of room in the very back to store all kinds of things from groceries to luggage. Car seats fit easily for the kids. Gas mileage isnt the greatest but for the make of the car, it is decent. They are great family cars and an easy to drive vehicle as well.

I got a Chevy Equinox back in 2019. Never owning one was nervous but soon found out it was one of the better vehicles I have owned, normal maintenance was always done, ran awesome, also I was hit on the side and that vehicle took a good amount of force, the equinox has very good safety in them also, it was eventually totaled due to damage, was very sad when I heard that, already getting another one, I do alot of camping and you can fit so much different size stuff in one, I love those SUVs and everyone I have known to have one say the same thing. They loved theirs.

I love the Chevy truck me and my boyfriend have. Its safe overall and hasnt really had any major problems. The truck is easy to keep clean and havent really had problems with it. We like the heated seats, how it looked. How it drove and Ive always loved Chevys and will probably always buy them. The fact how safe it is and that it will be a great family truck and we will be able to give it to our daughter one day. However, I dont like how much parts cost to fix it but other than that my whole family loves it. We bought the truck lifted, so the tires and most everything else cost a lot to fix or replace but it still doesnt ruin the truck for me. I would totally recommend this truck to anyone or my family. Its going to be a great family truck when our little one comes in June.

Water pump, o2 sensor, spark plugs, coil packs, fuel injectors, engine valves, blower motor for AC, timing chain, front hub, goes through brakes and rotors almost yearly. It was a very dissatisfying experience at Kingdom Chevrolet in Chicago, IL. A 2018 Chevy Camaro 1LT was advertised as $17,695 on their website and seeing that I called Kingdom Chevy and confirmed the car availability and price. They were affirmative for both. I traveled all the way to their place for 2 hours and met the representative and he said there wont be any changes in the price and $17,695 is the final price plus TTL. We did the test drive and because the price was confirmed, I accepted for their credit run to know the APR that I will receive though I have an offer from bank. I gave all the confidential information and they ran my credit check. Now the manager comes and say, the price on the website was including some rebates and he can offer the car for $25500. Manager started asking me if I am in military or a student or a teacher, etc. How could a customer browsing through the internet know if rebates are applied or not. I was thinking $17,695 is a right price as 2019 models are already on the roads and they are trying to get rid of 2018 models and hence the price. I do not have concern on Chevrolet brand but the dealership is fooling the customers with false prices on their website.

I have really enjoyed this vehicle and have taken it in many long road trips. It is quite comfortable to ride in for long periods. It has been very dependable. Only needed minor cosmetic repairs and regular maintenance such as new tires, replacing headlights, etc. I like the silver color and that it came with lots of features factory installed like sunroof, XM radio and GPS. I like that it has room for hauling stuff, the back seats fold down and it has a very spacious cargo. Also it gets excellent gas mileage and I just like the overall look of the car. But the backseat doors are very small and do not open wide. It makes cleaning difficult. I also am not able to put a bike rack on the back due to the hatch back. Also I wish the console between the two front seats wasnt there. I never use the cup holder and I have to put my purse in the back seat if I have a passenger.

The Chevy that I bought most recently has been a really good car so far. It does not take much gas to fill it up and once you fill it up it will for miles and miles before you have to fill up again. If anyone thinking about buying a Chevy, maybe you should give it a second thought. My radio quit, been trying, for a month, to buy a new one. Now before you get ahead of me you have to know that a radio is no longer just a radio. My radio (Chevy Sonic) makes all the noises for signal lights, seat belt chime, door ajar, oil pressure, overheat, stop engine, keys left in ignition and maybe some stuff I dont know about. You set all the stuff the car does: Rear wiper, lights on when leave and a dozen other stuff. ALL OF THE ABOVE NO LONGER WORKS. 3 years old and I cannot buy a radio, dont have them, farmed out to another company, back ordered for??? Called a US dealer (just across from me). He said last time he ordered one of them took 6 months. Thought I would buy used, cant. They are tied to your VIN number. Oh, and by the way, the price installed (they have to install, gotta use GM computer) has varied from $1300.00 to $617.50. But because I cannot buy one have not spent any money. DOES GM care, nope, they just tell you the dealer (not you of course) must order and wait. IMPRESSIVE HUH!

The build quality seems to be good but not perfect. The same with performance. I love the Chevy Volt. The battery gives us enough range on a full charge to get almost anywhere during the average day. Its quiet and runs smoothly with lots of power. There have been problems, of course. While the software is generally great, the entertainment center software had big problems. Software updates have helped a lot. And, we had a problem where the transmission control unit short-circuited. Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.

Now my coolant is the outside weather and I have to drain that crap out and replace it with the green stuff since it is apparently safer than what the manufacturer provides. Bit of a miracle that I got a 97 Lumina under a hundred thousand miles in 2019 so Im not going to destroy it with bad coolant. With the mixture, the car now raises its temperature rapidly at a stoplight and Im going to have to drain that stuff before Winters end. To start I love Chevrolet. Well I did. I have literally owned 15 Silverados from 73 to my 2019 and by far I am more disappointed in spending 50k on a z71 truck than anyone of my old ones. I drove through 1ft of water and it took out my engine. Some may say its my fault just like the dealer. However if you advertise a truck let alone a 4x4 z71 offroad addition it should be able to handle some water. I have had plenty of my old truck in 3ft of water/mud and kept going like champions. A lifetime of driving chevys and I still just cant believe this. And Im stuck with the bill. Absolutely horse crap. Besides all the recalls that are going on with starts and rear windows leaking.. Chevy needs to start taking pride in their vehicles again.

Have not had a major problem with this truck since I purchased it in 2009. I have a 2009 Chevy Colorado Truck. It runs smooth after 62,000 miles with no tune up. Love the on-star feature... no engine problems, handles very well on the road, feels and sounds like you going 50 miles per hr when you are actually going 70mph even now. Of course I keep the oil change and do regular maintenance on the car. My husband bought this truck new because he wanted something that a female could drive due to its midsize. He died a yr later and I decided to keep the truck and sell my car... Best decision I ever made.

I would give them 0 stars but they do call you and check on the issue, but they dont fix the issue. I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze LT and the check engine light recently came on so I took it to autozone and had the codes read. The code came back for a knock sensor and since I have a warranty on my car I called to check to see if it was a covered part with them and confirmed that I have 1 hour free diagnostic and the part was covered but the check engine light went off and stayed off for a few weeks. It came back on not too long ago and this time the codes reads intake airflow system performance so I just take to Chevy because at this point I am just done with the car and dont want to cause any damage driving it. The problem Is that I have been in contact with Chevy corporate for 2 months on this issue asking for assistance because if the part is something that was not covered under my warranty I didnt think I should be responsible for it. They have done nothing to help out with trying to solve the issue.

I sold my Mercedes CLS500 to buy a VOLT, it broke my heart but I found it necessary at that time. And I like the Volt, in sports mode it will outrun anything, the mileage is great, barely needs service, but it has one big downside - propulsion problems. At any given time theres a good chance your Volts little gas engine will start howling up like crazy, you will drive max 20 mph and sit (roll) and wait until the car gets over his propulsion power reduced moment... what can be very inconvenient if not dangerous on a freeway or driving up a hill. You might give it to your dealer for software updates, as this is the only service this car needs :) But the problem will come back. Also the initial 45 miles on a battery will get less and less, mine is currently 27. How much that all annoyed me? I bought my Mercedes CLS back and now we have 2 cars that could not be any more different form each other. Guess which one I drive most....

Until everything started going wrong with this car. When I got the car I was told right away that I need to get the two latest recalls one for the ignition switch and the other one was for the electronic power steering motor -- which was done without delay. One month after this one of my headlights started getting water damage and both of the bulbs stopped working (150$ repair). Right after this my driver side speaker stopped working (which makes the blinker noise - another 150$ repair). The next issue that occurred was my whole power system unit stopped working (not even two months past getting the EPM recall fixed - 1200$ GM only repair) which resulted in them breaking my steering wheel cover (that they werent trying to tell me about or fix). The steering wheel was crooked and didnt drive straight (told the GM dealership and there wasnt anything wrong with it supposedly). Reported this to the appreciate channels -- Chevy shouldnt be able to get away with this kind of malfunction when the problem was identical to the EPM malfunction. Of course, no recall or any form of help came of it. Not even one month later and my gear shifter it almost getting to the point where it wont go into gear (hard almost stuck like feeling to get it into position). Once again GM dealership says that there is nothing wrong with it.Finally weeks after this issue my check engine light is on (yet to be diagnosis), have a feeling Im not going to be happy with whatever is broken this time. I seriously hate this car so much and I have low mileage. My 04 Chevy cavalier (that was burning oil, and ran dry a few times) never gave me any problems and ran like a champ. I seriously hate this Cobalt and the Chevy dealership Ive taken the cobalt to. As soon as I can Im getting rid of this car and never ever going to buy another Chevy (it use to be the only brand Ive ever bought but your newer models are lemons).Chevy found a way to get their newer models to a certain mileage and then one by one everything stops working or malfunctions! Ive never spend so much in one year on car repairs and they call the Cobalts sure money savers and even found a way for local news programs to market them like they are cherry cars. DO NOT BUY A COBALT OR ANY NEWER CHEVY MODEL-- YOURE GOING TO REGRET YOU EVER DID.

I like that my Chevrolet is a pickup truck. It was an affordable price, an individual sale, and what was needed for our home. Its a full size truck that we are able to haul the materials we need for home repairs, to use for work, and it also has the full back seat and third door so we can take the grandchildren to the park or out to eat. A good benefit when you only have one vehicle to use in your home. I wish it has a fourth door for when you are in a hurry, like when it might be raining and you need to get the children in the house quickly and they are trying to get out at the same time or when you have groceries that need to be brought in then and cant wait. And also, have a little more leg room. Other than that, its a good vehicle that serves me well

In the last 4 months I purchased 2 used Chevy Volts with low miles and excellent condition. They replaced two Toyota Prius my wife and I owned. We’ve been Prius owners for 12 years, and have had a great experience with Toyota, but the Volt appealed to us for its much greater battery capacity as well as how it drives. What I didn’t anticipate was a far worse repair experience than I’ve ever had with any car in the last 40 years, and the fault is with Chevy and GM, not the dealer, for not having a commonly failing part available for the repair. It’s been 3 weeks now waiting for the part. In the meantime over many calls to GM for help, they have been absolutely awful. Day after day they apologize but they can’t tell you when the part will arrive, so I don’t know when I’ll get my car back.Three weeks after buying the second Volt, I had a problem starting it. I eventually got it started and drove it to the closest dealer in Arlington, MA. They told me right away it sounded like a common problem with the shifter assembly, but unfortunately the part was in backorder. Under the extended warranty I purchased, I had 6 days of a loaner car covered, so I got one and didn’t worry. A week later, the dealer still had no idea when the part would come from GM.That’s when I called GM and opened a case with Customer Service. The call center folks are friendly and try to help but are extremely limited as far as solving any problem. They assigned me a Senior Advisor however, and that was supposed to get my case escalated. But the Advisor also couldn’t tell me when the part would arrive. They also could not offer me any coverage for a loaner car during the extended wait for the part. The Advisor resorted to reciting policy to me on this issue. On multiple occasions I have tried to reach the Advisor to share information from the dealer or ask for an update. I’ve never been able to reach her the same day or next day. It has taken 2-3 days and messages and escalations for her to respond.Last week both the dealer and GM said the part was expected to ship that week. It didn’t. I called every day for an update and never got any sense that anyone knows anything about the parts availability. Then they said the part shipped last Friday so it should arrive that day or next day. The dealer looks for it every day but still hasn’t seen it (Tuesday). Again my calls to the Advisor, to ask about tracking the shipment, have not been returned. After borrowing my wife’s car for a week, which left her without a car, and getting rides to work from colleagues, I rented a car yesterday. With the extended warranty already used, and GMs policy preventing them providing any coverage since the manufacturers warranty has just passed a few months ago, I am now stuck with the rental cost, for how long I don’t know. The dealer says there’s nothing they can do til the part arrives. GM customer service says there’s nothing they can do to get the part to the dealer. The people responsible to make the part and ship it are completely insulated, as are any higher level managers, since customer service has said they can’t provide me any further contacts.I think the Volt is a great car. This mechanical issue is very minor. The car has a good reputation for reliability. But Chevy and GM can’t seem to provide a part for a common issue in the car. I’ve since heard that some Volt owners purchase and stockpile certain parts that occasionally fail, because they anticipate GM won’t be able to provide the part for repair. At this point I’m committed to the car, but don’t think I’ll ever buy another GM product in this lifetime, based on how poorly they’ve handled this. And I recommend the same for any car buyer. A global, multi-billion $ company can’t have common repair parts available within a day or two - that is a company that deserves to go out of business. And no more government bailouts. After buying the first one several months ago I bought another. Three weeks later I had a

The Chevy Sonic LTZ Turbo 2015 gets great gas mileage. Its reliable, its small and in the backseat area it has a video player in radio. It also has bluetooth radio connections. But other than those, I like the OnStar and XM radio. I also like that its a hatchback, has touchscreen radio, Pandora and USB port. I own a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS. While I was driving down the highway in Chicago Illinois at approx 55 mph the vehicle self accelerated to the maximum throttle position (pedal went to the floor). I could not get the vehicle to stop. Applied both feet to brake pedal while moving like a bullet. The vehicle suddenly lost power and I lost control of the vehicle spinning me around at approx 80 mph and crashing into the median wall now facing on coming traffic with cars trying to avoid crashing into me. Most horrific and scariest experience in my life. Not a single airbag deployed leaving me with serious injuries and a completely totaled vehicle! When I contacted GM to complain about this issue they told me they would escalate my complaint and someone would contact me within 24 hours. However a week went by and no one has called to follow up, apologize, and or even offer concern and I contacted them every day after the accident. I was constantly told the same story someone would be in touch! This happened February 22, 2017. As a loyal GM customer I am highly upset!! And will never purchase another GM product as long as I live! I have owned nothing but GM my entire life but never again. This company cares nothing about life whatsoever. They only care about the almighty dollar! After doing research I found several complaint about this unintended acceleration issue as well as no airbag deployment. Only by the grace of god I am alive today! Shame on you GM. You have lost a customer for life and I will tell the world how selfish and inconsiderate you are about caring, about quality of your cars, as well standing up for your mistakes! I could have killed my family as well as other families in the process and they wont even recall the vehicles to prevent further crisis situations. They wont do so until many families have died and it cost more to pay the claims than to recall the vehicles. As a 701 union mechanic I would be ashamed to even be employed by this so called manufacturer! Owner beware. If you own a Chevrolet Trailblazer get park it now and get rid of it! Dont take it to be service. They will most likely turn you around and say your vehicle is fine! Salvage that vehicle and do your research before you buy anything else!

I’m not rough on it and it’s frustrating that this has happened twice. It’s right at $200 to have the handles replaced with part and labor. I bought a used Chevy Traverse from Smith Chevrolet in Laurens. This vehicle was in perfect condition to the eye. SALESMAN SAID BEST USED VEHICLES HE HAD. At 123054 miles I had to replace the engine. After a few months the locks would just start locking and unlocking while you were sitting at an idle. Then it started running very bad so I had it put on the machine. Nothing showed up so mechanic said maybe throttle body so I replaced that. Then it would not crank. I could hear stereo and lights work but would not crank. I had it towed to Riverside in Laurens. They replaced the brain on the engine said its running good. I picked it up. Drove back to work. When I got off it would not crank. Had it towed back to Riverside. Jay said that it had nothing to do with the new brain and he was beyond making any money on it. I paid $1099.80 for that brain so I paid for any work done. Took vehicle back to man that put motor in. Ask him to check behind his work. Still everything is fine per the mechanic but I get it home and again it will not crank. On January 22 2019 this vehicle was towed to another shop and it is still there as of today 5/18/19. YES 4 MONTHS. I bought this vehicle for $15000 and have over $25000 in it and still cant even drive it to trade it. I Will not buy another Chevrolet. And thats sad because I think Chevrolet has some nice looking vehicles but if you cant depend on them or get them fix they are not worth having. I ask for an appointment at Newberry Chevrolet back in January before I took to this last shop but they were to call back and so far I have not heard from them with an appointment.

The battery is located in the trunk of the car. I show up to work and I smell burning wires. Thats the smell I smell inside the car. I opened my door and I see smoke coming out of the cracks of my trunk I freak out, I popped my trunk open and see theres a fire inside my trunk. The day prior I was working on a vehicle so I had my toolbox, a brand new can of carb cleaner in my trunk where tools should go. Well the can had hit the battery terminals and my toolbox managed to find its way on top of the can causing the spark and the contents inside the can obviously kept the flame going caught the toolbox on fire. Thank God nobody was hurt but thats a poor design. If youre going to put a battery in a trunk as a maker of a car put it in a contained area. A box of some sort. Protect the battery from anything a person may put in their trunk. Or even have another area for storage space for your tools, jumper cables, tow rope things like that keep the battery separated from anything that could be hazardous. That should only be common sense.

I bought a 2017 Chevy Colorado. I took it in for an oil change and rotation of tires. After I got the call that my vehicle was ready, I picked it up and was heading towards Ocala Florida and notice that my vehicle was rattling and swearing to the right. My wife told me move over to the right to take a look at why it was making such a rattling noise. She told me it sounds like you have a bad tire. I went to the medium and parked and took a look at the tires. The nuts and bolts were completely loose on all four tires. I was able to actually remove them with my hands. I called Ferman Chevrolet customer service and told them what happened and they wanted me to bring the vehicle back to them. I brought it back to them the following day because the car was not running right. The transmission seem to be making a noise and not changing shift. I took it to the dealership and they had to replace 3 of my tires and rims because they were damage from the time when I took it on the highway and the nuts and bolts were not tighten. They also flushed my transmission 3 times, because they noticed that there was a problem with my transmission. They told me that they had resolved the issue so I took my truck home. A few days later I started to notice that I was still having those transmission issues where it wasnt changing gears. I called GMC and filed a complaint against Ferman Chevrolet. They had me take my truck to another dealership to confirm the issues that I was having. The other dealership stated that it appear that it was a factory defect with the transmission. They claimed that they fix my issue. In 2 weeks later I was having the same problem. I called GMC and this time they didnt want to talk to me. I could not get anybody to help me with my truck that I had only had for 5 months. I did not have a choice because they werent willing to help me so I had to take a loss on the truck and trade it in for a Toyota Tacoma. I swore that I would never buy a GMC vehicle again. Be aware that this happened to me in a truck that was only 5 months old and had less than 5000 miles.

My Chevy Colorado had been totaled for a vehicle fire, truck almost killed
My Chevy Colorado had been totaled for a vehicle fire, truck almost killed me. There was no apparent reason why it happened, so most likely a product defect. There is a recall on 2018 Chevy Colorados, a fuel pump failure, which increases the cause of fire in fuel line. According to the fire report from the fire department, the cause of fire was fuel tank/fuel line. Apparently my Colorado was not part of this recall but maybe should have been based on what happened. To be sure, I wanted GM to investigate their vehicle, seeing as how it was less than 2 years old, bought brand new off the lot, only 17k miles. They stated that because my insurance company has it, that they will not look at it. My insurance company is fully willing to let them investigate it, but that means nothing to them. They stated that I would have had to call them before my insurance company in order for them to investigate and have a claim open. To me this is less about the claim and more about the fact that the vehicle caught fire while I was driving, no apparent reason why. It also feels like they are 2 separate issues. This is a safety issue that they need to address, and their only response is well log the issue. My insurance company hasnt been much help either. If GM is producing Trucks that are a hazard on the road, they need to do something about it rather than log the issue. No further efforts have been made on their part to help me, I have not been treated like a loyal customer but rather a nuisance and just a number. Worst customer experience ever.

I like trucks now. This Chevy Avalanche was my very first truck. I dont think I will buy another car just a truck. I love Chevy. I also have a Chevy Suburban. I would never buy anything other than a Chevy next time a Chevy Big truck. I love the color the style of my Avalanche. It is metallic blue green. Sometimes it looks blue sometimes green even purple at times depends on how the light hits. Its perfect color for my Philadelphia Eagles team. Fly Eagles fly. Very stylish and its great for all our fishing gear and road trips too. I think my suburban is more comfortable on the long road trips so I wish the Avalanche was more comfortable for my shoulder resting area. My arm gets stiff after riding. Also it needs a bumper step to get in and out.

I have a 2013 Chevy Sonic that I purchased with 30,000 miles on it from the dealer. There was a recall on the car for the catalytic converter, saying high temperatures from the engine was melting internal components. Of course their fix was not to replace catalytic converters, but to reprogram the ECM running temperature. However they sent the recall slip to the wrong address and by the time I had gone to the dealer I already had a check engine light on, and they wanted 150 dollars to diagnose the problem. I had to get through emissions and get the light off so I went to the local Shell service station. They informed me my catalytic was almost completely melted and malformed on the inside. I contacted Chevy and they said it needed to go to the dealer to get looked at and they would make an appointment, but after a week of no contact from them and a need for emissions so I could register my car, I brought it to Shell and had the work done. Then of course Chevy called and said there was nothing they could do because I had the work done elsewhere. Not offering catalytic converters to customers whose had melted, after acknowledging the ECM they set is causing the issue, is despicable. After spending 1000 dollars on a new car, a part that should never fail, they certainly lost a customer in me with their poor handling of this issue.

We purchased a 2016 Chevy Impala for my husband. In the 3 years we have had the vehicle, we have replaced the following items: 2 batteries, 1 starter, 1 purge valve. I am writing a review today in regards to the purge valve. Our check engine light came on and so we took it to our mechanic. The mechanic stated that the purge valve needed to be replaced, so we replaced it. 3 days after we paid for the repair, a letter in the mail came from Chevy stating the purge valve may be bad and to take it to the dealership to be replaced. Since we already replaced the valve, I applied for the reimbursement. Chevy is denying my reimbursement since it was not done at the dealership. This is the last Chevy we will ever own.

I currently have a 2004 Silverado 1500, a dream of many years. Aside from the general maintenance of any vehicle (breaks and the likes) this truck is AMAZING! I give, as an example: about a year ago, I was about 50 miles from home when the coolant line sprung a leak! Id noticed a small puddle under the vehicle when I came out of the store where Id been shopping, but thought it was condensation. On the drive back, through some rather rural area, I noticed a slight increase on the temperature gauge so I drove with care not to over-exert the engine. Taking the truck immediately to the mechanic, they opened the reservoir for the coolant to find it completely dry! Repairs were made and subsequently I learned that these vehicles have a protection against over-heating! It saved my day, my purchases, my sanity, to be sure. This truck, even at its age, has been a blessing, helping me move house, hauling brush and wood, its amazing in snow, and I live in a mountainous region in Northern New York state where Winters can be quite brutal. As for the rating given about the cost, quite honestly, I find the cost of motor vehicles these days to be rather unreasonable over all. But even for the basic Silverado, I would say, considering the peace of mind and safety, Ive experienced with mine, the price is reasonable. Could be better (lower of course), but as is: perfectly reasonable. I recommend the model to everybody, even those who think trucks are out of their personal style. Drive one, youll be stuck forever.

My Chevy Astro was a customized conversion van that I wanted to be able to use if and when I went weekend camping. It was perfect van for myself and my children. It was easy to clean, especially since it had its own built in dust buster that you plugged into in the back and could just run off the regular car battery. The van had a TV in the back with ear phones, a separate radio/cassette tape player with & w/out headphones, first aid kit, Kleenex box, cooler, bed in back that went down with the push of a button, fancy lighting in back, shades that pulled down in the back & sides & had the high top. Its just that the tires were an odd size that always needed special ordering so they were always more expensive. Also, I would have liked better gas mileage. The Astro wasnt a very comfortable traveling van for long trips but it was comfortable and roomy for everything. Wish I hadnt sold it.

This is a great car but the overall experience is marred by some petty greed. The car comes with the ability to remote start; check battery, location, lock unlock; etc. This all comes with a internet connection through AT&T. They want between $180 to $420 per year to keep this service active. Thats absurd. My Ford provides these services free of charge. I understand that OnStar operators need to be paid but I am talking about basic tech services here. Is my car charged? When was it last driven? etc. I would love all that OnStar has to offer but I am unwilling to pay for it. Why cant Chevy provide basic informational services like Ford does for free?

Being a Chevy family for years I am very disappointed to find out that they hide problems with their vehicles from their customers. They can send out flyers to purchase new car mats or upgrades for cars, yet when a part is bad on their vehicles are bad. On our Trax our pvc valve cover went bad and Chevy had known that on the 2013-2017 Trax, Sonic and Cruise this part had been malfunctioning. It would have been under warranty from my dealership had I know when I was home to take it in.My warranty is not valid anywhere but there. Of course they never told me that either. My family decided to see our son who is in the Army 3.5 hours from our home. Car was not covered. We were stranded for 3 days because the strike caused a lack of parts throughout the country. Dealerships were closed because it was a weekend so we went to a Pep Boys. Chevy acknowledges this is an issue but refuse to reimburse me because I didnt go to a dealership in the town we were stranded in. Which by the way couldnt find the part we needed a Kia dealer had to find it! We will be trading in our Chevys by the end of the year and getting a different brand who believes in customer service not just making a buck!

Bought a 3500 diesel. Was told motor and tranny would last forever, after 3000 miles brakes wore out on a Saturday. Replaced brakes and rotors with aftermarket on Saturday night so I had a vehicle for the weekend, went to dealer on Monday morning and was told brakes were not warrantied, Brakes should last longer than 3000 miles so there was obviously something wrong. Was told to get the ** out and to go to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased. Went to original dealer and was told nothing was wrong. At 40000 miles motor started to knock. Was told it was a sensor. Replaced sensor. Still same knock. They finally take my truck in and admit the motor was bad. Gave me a loaner for a month then called to tell me they needed their loaner back because it was sold as I was rudely yelled at by general manager and was told that loaners were for a few days not for a month. They did not have a loaner to replace it so Chevy corporate told me they would send me a refund if I had rented a truck. Needless to say they took 3 months to fix my truck and after six months and numerous phone calls still have not received any money from them. Was a dedicated chevy truck guy until this whole fiasco. Never again. Truck is a complete junior $65000.

The reason I chose the Cheverlot Cavalier was the color and how it rode when I took it for a test drive. It was the perfect car for my small family. I didnt need anything big. The dealer was very convincing and told us about all the luxuries the car had, let us take it for a test drive and I was very pleased. I tested drove 2 other vehicles and they were not what I was looking for. They was nice but not what I wanted. But the last car I drive was suitable for me and met my expectations. Its got a lot of room in the trunk, tires are not expensive, doesnt take a lot to fill up the gas tank and gets me to work and other places I need to go without any problems. Like sunroof, radio, AC, seats are comfortable and the gas Mileage is amazing. But seat should be leather so they can be heated for cold days. For better quality maybe have power seats and windows instead of crank. Have more comfortable seats. Should have better radios in it and should get a backup camera so you dont hit anything or another vehicleOther than that Cheverlot Cavalier is one of the best cars Ive bought in years. If someone would ask me about buying a car I would recommend this model if they want something thats is easy in gas and just the right size. I would recommend it to all my friends and family and hope they would purchase and feel please about it. Also there is lots of different colors. In the car I chose comes with different luxuries. Its also American built car and not imported. I love it and I would buy another one.

Which I bought and put in. Re: Chevy Trax. The first year this model came out, it had a few glitches, but still was fun to drive, easy to park, not too bad on gas mileage and had enough space for a small SUV. Having had a decent experience with my first Trax, I opted to re-lease again. The newer Trax still has a few glitches and not too many upgrades. Still, its a good, solid, dependable little vehicle. 2018 TRAVERSE VIN # ** Mileage: less than 10000 (ten thousand). Export version only. Country: COLOMBIA. Many small issues and no fix yet.1. Shift to park. When you park the vehicle ask you to put it in PARK and it is already. Dealer is working on that as I write this thread. Tech found a recall or bulletin from manufacturer to repair or possible replacement of some parts.2. SERVICE STABILITRACK. In many and random occasions this service light comes on and 20 seconds later goes off. When stopping at a light. Dealer unable to duplicate and no fix yet.3. Fuel economy system, it does not work right now, and it happened twice before. Does not turn off when you stop at a traffic light. Dealer has updated software in order to remedy this issue.4. Locking audio confirmation. When you manually lock the doors it gives you an audio or lights confirmation. It does not work anymore. Dealer looking into this issue.5. Electric parking brake. The electric parking brake activated itself while driving in traffic. Heavy traffic situation 5 mph and the E. brake came on and stayed on. The vehicle did not move forward or backwards. Turn the engine off several times, put in parking, neutral etc etc. After 5 minutes of blocking traffic had to force the vehicle to the shoulder. Almost did not make it. Turn vehicle off and called the flat bed. While waiting 15-20 minutes later turn vehicle on and SURPRISE!!! It was fixed. MAGIC. The E brake was off and the vehicle was free. While this was going on the E Brake light (red) was on, and Service Parking Brake light (amber) was flashing all the time. Dealer did an update to the system and not sure if it will happened again. But this is the THIRD time this happened. Once at my house about six months ago but it took about 1 minute and it fix itself so I did not pay attention to it. The second time it happened to my wife at a shopping center but she left it in the lot and went back shopping and when it came out it was fixed. The dealer down here works hand to hand to a place in Mexico (Chevrolet help center for dealers). Mexico looks at the issue and tells the tech in Colombia what to do. He does and reports to Mexico. Anyone knows anything about this? Thanks for your help....

I got this car from my mother who passed away and it has been awesome. I will never get rid of it even if it stops running. It was my moms. Some things mean more than anything. I feel she is watching over me when I drive this car.

I absolutely love the Chevrolet vehicle. It has been an amazing car for me. It has been very useful and I havent had any issues out of it. Its a great all-terrain vehicle. I can get anywhere I need to with the Four-wheel drive. I also love all the room it has inside so that I can haul anything I need to. Favorite vehicle ever Ive owned.

I come from a family that prided itself on owning Chevrolet trucks – trucks that ran for 200K+ miles. That came to an end for me today. I own a 2016 Suburban LT thats used as our primary family vehicle. At just over 64K miles, the car started to show signs of a delayed shifting between P, R, and D. It would hesitate and then jump into gear. The vehicle would also shake when on the highway and shifting between gears. The dealer first suggested re-programming the transmission and a fluid flush at a cost of $700, but the symptoms persisted. Upon further investigation by the transmission technician, I was presented with a price of $7,000 to replace the transmission with a remanufactured one.Visibly frustrated, the dealer suggested that I could approach GM about cost sharing of the repair, but only after performing a tear down of the transmission which was another $1,500. The dealer suggested that they needed to tear down the transmission so that they could identify precisely what went wrong and then report back to GM via a software application (not person to person interaction). Also, how convenient for GM and the dealer to have my vehicle taken apart before presenting me with a cost sharing proposal. GM already knows that the transmission needs to be replaced - and after its replaced, the broken transmission is sent back to GM to be remanufactured and sold to another dissatisfied customer whose transmission has failed because of poor mechanical craftsmanship. After several conversations with GMs Sr. Advisor and a Supervisor, which knew very little about transmissions or repairs in general, I was told that they would not consider any cost sharing until the tear down was performed - and it was my full responsibility to pay the $1,500 for tear down. So, before even knowing the full cost of repairing the vehicle, I need to pay $2,200? GM doesnt need the transmission torn down to address my issue. The Sr. Advisor and Supervisor should have had autonomy to escalate and do what’s right – which is be highly empathetic; own the mechanical flaw in craftsmanship; problem solve with me; and tell me that they’ll pay a certain percentage of the total repair cost to replace the transmission with one that’s been remanufactured. But, they didn’t do that; they didn’t stand by their product or their customer commitment. To me, it’s disgusting to see on GM’s website that they pride themselves on ensuring an exceptional ownership experience”. It’s a poor product and terrible company – that’s why they reduced the power train warranty from 100K in 2015 to 60K in 2016 – and have a class action lawsuit against them on the Yukon XL (not sure why Suburban is not on here, but will investigate). Ford may not be any better, but that’s where I’m headed – and that never would have happened had GM stood by their craftsmanship issue and done everything that they could have to satisfy me as a customer.

For the most part its been a good car but we have had some issues. There have been some issues with the engine and with the a/c which I was not happy about at all. You shouldnt have problems like that with a new car. However, other than those it has been a good car, good price, and good gas mileage.

Good on gas. Cheap on repairs. Cant really complain. Its a Chevy. Probably my favorite car out of them all. Nice to drive and easy to fix. The colors are simple. I wish they would bring the Monte Carlo back. Great car. Was sad to see it go. The Camaro is ok but this one was better.
